WIP WEDNESDAY THURSDAY
thank you @imagineacoolusername for the tag <3
"Hi, how can I help?" Mary said with a tired smile.
The customer smiled back and a distant image of James Potter appeared in her smile, "I was wondering if you had this in xs? I couldn't find it on the rail."
"Wait here, I'll check in the back for you."
She walked off and entered the backroom, where her work friend was taking a break.
"Mary!" She cheered, like Marlene did all the time, "I had to clean some kid's puke earlier. I am definitely quitting. It was disgusting."
She spoke with a heavy Scottish accent, just like Lily's.
"You say that every day."
She shrugged, "One day, I promise you. One day. I'm going to do something so much more. What about you? I don't think you've ever talked about any big dreams."
Mary found the shirt in xs, but turned back to her friend before leaving, "this was my dream."
Her friend snorted with a small huff, like Remus when he found something funny but wasn't sure if he should, "Selling shitty clothes at such a low wage that you have to work a second job in the only spare time you get?"
Mary laughed with a shrug, "Yeah. I'm happy. It was better than what I thought I'd have to do."
She left the backroom and walked back to the tills; looking down at the tshirt, a superman symbol splashed on the front. Peter had one just like it, he had always admired the hero, wanting to be just as powerful.
Maybe he got to be. She didn't want to know.
this is from when all is said and done, a wip of mine focused on mary and emmeline reuniting after the war (canon divergent cause emmeline doesn't die in it)

The Potters were well known amongst their loved ones for their famous Christmas Party. James’ parents, even though aging, continued with their parties, and the lot of you attended every year.
After James and Lily got married they started hosting holiday gatherings as well. It was a bit more of an inner circle than what James’ parents did. But you all looked forward to it every year.
“Hold on..I got this!” James assured us as he struggled to open the box in his hand.
Little Harry laughed at his fathers clear struggle, earning a grin from James. Lily looked at James strangely.
“James,” Lily plucked the box from him, “It’s already opened.” Lily opened the box with ease.
A fit of hysterical laughter filled the room.
You were resting on your boyfriend's legs, listening and joining in on conversation as your head rested on his thighs and your hands were intertwined across your stomach.
“Y’know,” Sirius began, “This reminds me of when we won that quidditch match against Ravenclaw and James got drunk as shit-“
“Sirius!” Multiple voices chastised
“Whoops.” Sirius grinned, not even trying to seem guilty. Sirius was spread across a love seat while his boyfriend sat on the floor in front of him.
“I think it’s time for Harry to go to bed.” James said, rushing towards Harry as if Sirius’ swear word would poison his son.
“Not yet, you know he gets fussy when he goes to bed too soon.” Lily stopped her husband
“Yeah, Jamie,” Marlene jokes, “It’s a holiday, let the kid stay up.”
“You’re only saying that because you’ve never had to deal with a fussy baby.” Dorcas pointed out
Marlene snorted, “Of course I have, I used to have to babysit my siblings when my parents went out. I’ve dealt with plenty of fussy babies.” The blonde corrected her wife.
“Thanks for volunteering to take care of Harry, Marls.” James teased as he gently plopped the four year old in Marlene’s lap.
Marlene’s eyes looked as though they were going to pop out of her head as Harry tried to reach for Marlene’s bottle of beer.
“Uh, love, a little help here.” Marlene begged her wife quietly.
“I thought you were used to fussy babies.” Dorcas teased
“I was, but that was a long time ago!” Marlene shrieked as she tried to keep the bottle of alcohol away from the persistent toddler.
“I’ll take him.” Sirius scooped Harry up from Marlene’s lap, “I’m his godfather, I’m amazing when it comes to these types of things.” He said proudly
“You called us crying because Harry got a paper cut.” Lily deadpanned
“It was a bad paper cut!” Sirius exclaimed
“It did look pretty bad.” James agreed quietly with his brother
Sirius grinned, feeling victorious.
Lily sent James a look, “But you did make it seem like Harry was dying.” James said quietly
Sirius gasped and pointed at Lily, “How dare you turn him against me. I thought we were closer than this, prongs.” Sirius feigned hurt, “Moony, Wormy, back me up here.”
“Leave me out of it.” Remus said
“I’m sure you meant well, Sirius.” Peter said in a slight sarcastic voice
“Thank you, wormy.” Sirius chose to ignore Peter's tone.
“I do not understand how you deal with toddlers all the time, Lils. First, you and James, then Alice and Frank.” Marlene commented
“How is Alice and Frank?” Lily asked, suddenly very curious about one of her closest friends.
Marlene shrugged, “Good. Me and Dorcas went over for dinner earlier this week. Their little mutant clinged to my leg the entire time.” The blonde complained.
“It was sweet, he likes you.” Dorcas teased
“Tell that to the slobber left on my good pants.”
“I'm glad to hear that.” Lily said, “I got a letter from Mary yesterday morning as well.”
“How's our sunshine doin?” Sirius asked
“She and Emmeline are traveling right now…she thinks Emmeline is going to propose!” Lily's excitement was obvious.
“About time.” Sirius spoke up, “How long have they been together? Since third year?”
“Sixth year.” Lily corrected
“You’re next, Moony.” Peter said teasingly
“Yeah, Moony, when are you going to pop the question.” Sirius was only joking. All of them knew why Remus hadn’t proposed.
“Just be patient, pads.” Remus jokes
Sirius snorted, “You sound like my little brother. Thought he and his blonde friend were a thing, then I found out he’s seeing some muggle from France.”
“Regulus?” Peter questioned
Sirius nodded, “The boys a blonde and everything.” Sirius looked towards Marlene, jokingly.
“Must be hot then.” Marlene jokes.
————————————————————
Remus had already changed into his pajamas and climbed into bed. He was only waiting for you to come to bed so he could fall asleep.
Meanwhile, you paced in the living room of your shared cottage. You sent occasional glances towards the basket that held the vials of potion your mom had produced for you.
“Love?” Remus called from the stairs
“In here!” You called back, you shuffled your feet in nervousness.
What if he didn’t like it? What if he thought you were trying to fix him? What if it doesn’t work?
Remus peeked his head in the doorway and smiled at you, making your heart melt in love.
“What’cha doin? It’s late.” He walked towards you and stiffened when he saw your uncomfortable posture.
“A-are you okay?” He asked worriedly
You managed a small smile and stepped towards him, straight into his arms and rubbed his back. Mostly to calm yourself.
“I have a present for you.” You whispered
Remus hummed in confusion, he hadn’t heard you, you realize.
“I have a present for you.” You said louder, pulling back from his chest but keeping his arms around his waist as his arms stayed around your shoulders.
His brows furrowed, “Okay?”
You sighed, stepping back and walking towards the basket, “Sit down.” You said
You heard shuffling and the creak of your chair.
Gently, you pulled a single vial from the basket and walked over to him. Without making eye contact you sank to your knees beside him.
He eyed your figure and chuckled nervously, “You’re freaking me out a bit..”
You sighed regretfully, “it’s nothing bad. I promise. It’s just..I’m worried you might not..like it?” You said for lack of better word
Remus smiled softly and squeezed your hand, resting on his thigh reassuringly, “Whatever it is, I’m sure I will love it.”
You smiled back and handed him the vial of potion.
His face contorted back to one of confusion.
“Look at the label.” You said quietly, scanning his face for his reaction.
You watched him turn the bottle over and read the label. Once…twice..three times.
“Is this..” he said with a disbelieving tone
“It’s Wolfsbane. I’ve got plenty of more in the basket over there.” You motioned towards the basket, “My mom made it so it should work perfectly.”
His face didn’t change.
“Rem..” you said in an anxious voice.
“How..why..?” His voice broke
“I know you’ve read about it in the “Daily Prophet” about a hundred times. I asked my mom..I paid for the ingredients and my mom brewed it. For you.”
Remus took in a shaky breath and looked at you with tear-filled eyes, “You shouldn’t have.” He said, holding back tears.
You sat up and wrapped your arms around his shoulder, “I wanted to. I know how much you’ve wanted this..how much you need this. You deserve every last vile and much more.”
Remus let out a sob and buried his head into your chest.
“Thank you, thank you.” He pulled you into his lap, and buried his face into your neck, “I don’t deserve you.”
You whispered sweet things into his ear as he cried. He only continued to hold you tighter.
When pulled back from your neck you cupped his cheeks and wiped his tears from his face.
He continued to mutter words of gratitude as he pulled you into a kiss. The kiss was full of so much adoration and love, as you knew he was trying to express how grateful he was.
“I love you.” He said
“I know, and I love you too.”
As the two of you went to bed that night, wrapped in each others arms, there was a new feeling, one that you knew Remus could feel too. It was a new sort of understanding between you and your lover, one that you were sure would last the rest of your lives.

GUYS PLEASE READ THIS AND TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK
So I genuinely refuse to believe that considering the size of Hogwarts there was never a mention of a huge green field, only the lake. Like you know, fields like ones they have in the UK with cows and shit. BUT NO COWS THIS TIME. Imagine there is a huge field with wildflowers, like chamomile and poppies and other stuff and it's just so unbelievably green when May rolls around and throughout June as well, and some time after the field gets green like that it also blooms.
So, now that you've imagined it, imagine four 11 year old boys running around, playing tag in that field, screaming, laughing and falling down, out of breath, on the grass together to look up at the clouds. And when exams/tests are over, they sit on the field, which smells MAGNIFICENT by the way, just like proper summer, with all the flowers on it, and watch the summer sunset.
Second year, Peter gets bitten by a bee and becomes so goddamn scared of the field in the summer because of the bees that he absolutely refuses to play in there with his friends. And because MARAUDERS WERE EQUAL IN EACH OTHER'S EYES they spent so many break times researching the best insect repellent spells with the help of Professor Sprout, that they came up with a solution in less than a month and they were finally able to go to the field altogether.
Sometime then they were also joined by Lily, Mary, Marlene and such, who preferred picnics to playing tag, but weren't against watching the sunset as well.
Around the fifth year the Marauders would notice that Pandora, Regulus, Dorcas, Barty and Evan sat a little further away on the field. Pandora made flower crowns, Regulus read, Barty and Evan bickered, though it was never serious, and Dorcas composed or covered songs on her guitar. And since James is the little ray of sunshine that he is, he RUNS up to Pandora begging her to teach him how to make flower crowns, to which she happily agrees. Remus then finds the book Regulus is reading very interesting, Sirius is itching to put his opinion into rosekiller's argument because of course he knows better - it's clotted cream AND THEN jam on a scone, and Peter actually has a very clear, soothing soprano, which compliments Dorcas's alto and they start singing together. They sometimes hang out together after that.
Sixth year - James and Pandora are teaching everyone to make flower crowns and somehow, after the flowers have been picked, they grow right back, like nothing happened. Sirius gives his first flower crown to Minerva, most pretty (in his opinion) flower crown to Regulus, after a fight, after which Regulus, surprisingly, forgives him, which he does not want to admit, and all of his other ones to his Moony, because "he deserves all the flowers in this world". Remus grumbles a little about waste of flowers, but secretly preserves all of them in his books and keeps them. They no longer play tag in the field, for quite a few years now, but instead just frolic and dance whenever. Lily and Marlene sometimes act like those Zumba instructors and show moves to all the others, while Mary picks out the most danceable ABBA songs, getting a complaint from Sirius, who secretly doesn't really mind a bit of disco. They are sometimes joined by others, like Frank, Alice and Emmeline and they all have a huge dance off and OF COURSE it's either James or Lily who win most of the times and the classically trained Black brothers finally stop associating dancing with their parents and harsh etiquette training.
Last day of the last year, they all come out on the field one last time. To play tag. Like it all started. Running around it without one care in the world, then again, falling down on the field together. They then quietly talk about what they think the future will be like for them, agreeing on the thought that it will all work out eventually. Then they each make A LOT of flower crowns to exchange with every single person there. Barty then charms all the crowns to "speak". Basically, by touching a flower on the flower crown you can hear the voice of the person who made it and that date that they made it on, or whatever they want to say: "I'm Sirius Black, and I made this flower crown for Marlene on dd/mm/yyyy. DAZZLE ON MARLS" or smn like that. When asked how Barty came up with this, he answered, that he didn't wanna sort through his condoms every time he needed them in order to find out which one is strawberry flavoured, so he would just touch it and know which is which 😭😭😭
After that they actually hug. All of them. During the sunset. And it's the most wholesome thing.
And then they stay on the field until dawn getting drunk and doing something dumb and fun.
THAT'S IT YOU GUYS I REALLY LIKE THIS THOUGHT
Oh, also, if you wanna go more canonical (god no please no), then the year before Remus comes back to Hogwarts to teach, they remove the field to build more greenhouses, since more plants are coming in due to globalization and shit. And only Luna notices, crying silently at all the flowers that are gone.
And when Remus comes back, the first thing he notices is that the field is gone. Without a trace. Dead. Just like all of his friends. But not the memories he made. Probably would be better if they were dead too, because they hurt him even more, than he thought was possible.

May 24th, 1977
Emmeline had broken up with Sirius after his refusal to apologize for not celebrating Valentine’s Day, not that he minded in the slightest. The rest of the group was so elated by her absence, that they even briefly discussed throwing a party in honor of it (Lily shut down the idea for being “a tad too cruel” for her liking). They all quickly fell back into the old routine of eating meals together in the Great Hall (sans vigorous public displays of affection), only with a new seating change. Sirius sat beside her for every meal now, hand on her knee underneath the table, a silent reassurance between them both that he was there, and that she was safe. She was done fighting the feelings between them, letting Sirius be as close as he wanted, and he seemed to never want to be more than an arms-length away.
In a sick parallel of events, she began to have nightmares, recognizing them as the similar trauma-induced ones Sirius had endured. Not one to broadcast her own issues, she kept the problem under wraps and suffered in silence. Each night became the same routine of silencing charms and attempts to lull herself to sleep wrapped in the soft gold sheets of her bed. When she did finally slip into a dream, they were never good. Flashes of dark forest, vicious hands with bloodied nails coming to tear at her flesh, sinister laughter at her cries. When she’d jolt awake mid-scream, face wet with tears, she could still feel their bruising grip. After a few weeks of sleepless nights she became a zombie, trudging through the motions of the day with deep circles under both eyes. Sirius noticed quickly, having spent years in the same predicament. He cornered her one morning after breakfast, pulling her into an alcove just beyond the main staircase.
“How bad is it?” His intense stare made her squirm against the wall. She began to fidget, not daring to look him directly in the eye.
“I’m not sure what you’re talking about.”
He leaned closer, arms caging her in as he rested both hands beside her head, “You’re a shit liar, have you seen yourself? You look like a ghost. I know you’re not sleeping, so tell me.”
Slowly, she dragged her tired eyes up to his. Though his words were direct, his face was soft and kind, gaze full of careful concern. Sirius brushed a hand down her hair as she finally cracked.
“I keep seeing it. Over and over again, every night. I don’t know how to stop it…” She wanted to cry, but no tears would come; she was too exhausted.
“Oh love,” Sirius kissed her forehead, pulling her in close, “We’ll fix it. Come to the tower tonight, we’ll figure something out.”
She didn’t want to tell the others, not about the terrors, not about the incident, not about…whatever it was her and Sirius were doing, so she crept up to Gryffindor Tower under the cover of darkness with the help of the map Sirius had slipped to her that afternoon. James and Peter slept like the dead, so the creak of the dormitory door wouldn’t wake them. Remus however, was a wildcard, and she prayed that he hadn’t heard the relatively loud groan that occurred as she pushed open the heavy wooden door. Pausing to listen to anyone stirring, she continued to tip-toe towards Sirius’ bed, slipping through the curtains to find him lounging against his headboard waiting for her. Upon seeing her face, Sirius opened his arms in silent invitation, and she quietly climbed across to fall into his comforting embrace. When she woke up the next morning, it had taken a few moments to realize she had slept soundly for the first time in weeks.
Most (if not all) nights were now spent sneaking into Sirius’ bed after the other three boys had gone to sleep, slipping out at dawn after having slept peacefully against his familiar body. If any of them had caught on, they didn’t say a word. Nor did she care at that point.
At the end of May, she crept through the bed curtains as usual, only to find him uncannily quiet and upset.
“Hey, you alright?” She whispered, climbing over his legs to settle into her usual spot.
He shook his head, sinking down further and closing his eyes in a futile attempt at avoiding the conversation. She pulled the blankets back from his face, “Don’t you try and pretend to fall asleep Sirius Black, I know you better than that.”
The ghost of a smile graced his lips, “Smart ass.”
She pushed his hair back from his eyes, “Tell me what’s going on.”
Sirius sighed, hand trailing up her arm in a self-soothing gesture, “It’s Reggie.”
Her heart skipped a beat. She’d seen Regulus with Evan and the others a handful of times since the incident in February, and every time she had felt like throwing up. He had been present during it, she saw him, but after her eyes were shut she had no way of determining who was who. Frankly, she didn’t want to know which one of them had been Regulus. She understood that he was Sirius’ brother, and there would always be an underlying bond between them, but she hated him nonetheless. Part of her was still angry that Sirius didn’t seem to share the same hatred for what his brother had done to her.
Her throat was dry as she fought the urge to scream, “What about him?”
Sirius turned on his back and stared at the canopy, “…he took the mark.”
His voice was laden with devastation and disbelief, the presence of which instantly dissolved all of her ill feelings surfacing about Regulus. She remembered that Christmas at the Potters, the fear in Sirius’ eyes as he explained the dark mark to them. They both knew what this meant for his brother, and that everything had changed.
“You’re sure? How do you know?”
Sirius shrugged in a feeble attempt to seem unfazed, “Prongs heard some rumors and told me, but then at practice earlier I saw something peeking out of his kit and confronted Reg about it.”
“I’m sorry,” she laid down, head leaning on his arm, “They didn’t…they didn’t force him, did they?” The image of Sirius laying in a pool of blood on the Potter’s sitting room floor flashed through her mind, and she swallowed the bile in her throat. He shook his head slowly.
“I’m not sure which is worse to be honest,” he whispered sadly, “my parents holding him down, or the fact that he took it willingly.”
They laid in silence for a few minutes, the weight of everything pressing down on them. Sirius rolled onto his side, pulling her closer.
“Reggie is the one that told me,” he whispered into her hair, “back in February. He found me and brought me to the forest…”
The admission stole the breath from her lungs. Her entire body froze as she scrambled for something, anything, to say in response. Ultimately, she couldn’t. The silence stretched between them again, Sirius’ breathing eventually evening out as he fell asleep. She laid there for a while pressed against the warmth of his body, trying to come to terms with the fact that Regulus had been the one to save her that night.

June 27th, 1977
“Bunch of bloody traitors,” Sirius muttered, pushing his way past James and Peter on the way to the train. She laughed as he strode up beside her at the front of the group, slinging an arm around her shoulders.
“Now, now,” she rolled her eyes as Sirius stuck his tongue out at the rest of their friends trailing behind, “there’s no reason for name calling. We’re going to have a great time this summer! I can’t wait to show you around London!”
A month prior, James had excitedly announced that the Potters’ (including Sirius) were going on vacation to Spain this summer, Lily would be tagging along as well. Sirius had groaned loudly, immediately followed by a dramatic exclamation that he’d “rather die than be a perpetual third wheel all holiday”. He turned to Pete and asked if he could stay at his instead, only to be met with a sheepish grin.
“Sorry mate,” Peter shrugged, “my family’s going away as well.”
“Are you fucking joking?” Sirius stared between his friends, mouth slack, “Moony?”
Remus shook his head, “You know better than to ask to stay at mine.”
Sirius shut his mouth into a thin line, eyes falling on her.
“Yellowjacket…” he purred from beside her on the bench.
“Yes, Sirius?” she made her voice as monotoned as possible to piss him off. When he didn’t answer, she turned, his blue eyes mock-pleading and bottom lip jutting out. She scoffed. “Jesus Christ, knock off the theatrics,” she swatted at him, “I’ll ask my parents if you can stay with us, but no promises!”
Her parents had of course, both said yes. They had met the boys on multiple occasions throughout the years and loved them all dearly, and had been hearing her talk about Sirius specifically for a while now.
As they got off the train at Kings Cross, Sirius brought her into a crushing bear hug.
“See you in a few weeks, I hope you won’t miss me too much,” he squeezed as she struggled to break free.
“Keep choking me like this and I’ll rescind the invitation entirely,” she laughed, pinching his sides in retribution. He let go with a dramatic gasp, hand over his heart in faux-offense.
She leaned up to kiss his cheek, “I’ll see you in a few weeks, Siri.”
The slight pink tint to his face didn’t go unnoticed as she said goodbye to the rest of her friends, eagerly joining her parents at the back of the crowd to begin what she hoped would be one of the best summers of her life.
———
July 30th, 1977
She had assumed that letting Sirius stay in her parent’s muggle house, on a muggle street, in a muggle town would be a fiasco, but what she hadn’t expected was how quickly and enthusiastically he absorbed the culture. From the moment he arrived via Floo in their sitting room, the widest smile plastered to his face, he was eager to take in as much of the muggle world as he could. Driving in a car for the first time had him practically foaming at the mouth, making a point to press every button and crank every handle he possibly could, just to see what it would do.
He helped her mother out in the kitchen, learning how to not only use muggle utensils and tools, but how to cook in general, which was a skill his family apparently deemed “beneath a member of the Noble House of Black” he had explained with an eye roll. His favorite thing to cook was pasta, specifically spaghetti, and her mum had taught him how to make sauce from scratch. He beamed as they all ate it, watching with sparkling eyes as they praised his new found culinary talent. Sirius washed the dishes afterwards as well, always jumping up before anyone else to try his hand at scrubbing pots and plates with the little yellow and green sponge in the sink. She caught him using his wand once or twice, but only when she knew he was growing impatient with a particular spot.
Her father showed him around the garage, and Sirius drooled over the sight of her dad’s old beat-up Volkswagen that he’d been working on since she was a kid. They spent hours out there, blasting rock ’n roll and fine tuning beneath the hood. It almost became a struggle to get them inside the house, if it wasn’t for the promise her mother offered to let Sirius use the electric mixer to make dessert.
Though he technically grew up in London, Sirius had never stepped foot outside of Islington. He’d never been able to explore the city, or even spend any time walking beyond the front steps of Grimmauld Place. The thought of such isolation baffled her, giving her intense feelings of claustrophobia. They spent a few days shuttling about the city to the typical tourist spots, just so he could say he’d been there. Though he loved the muggle world, most of the famous sites seemed to bore him; except for the London Eye, he loved being up so high and waving at passing tourists (you can take the boy out of the quidditch pitch and whatnot…) She knew the perfect place that would set his blood on fire: Camden.
Watching Sirius explore muggle London was a trip, but watching his face illuminate while stepping out of the tube station in Camden Town made her heart swell exponentially. The sounds of live music from local clubs filled the streets, paired with the market vendors selling everything from jewelry, to clothes, to random paraphernalia; Sirius was a certifiable kid in a candy store. But all of that joy seemed like nothing compared to when he saw a motorcycle up close and personal. The only thing she could assume it felt like, was when she saw Hogwarts for the first time. Sirius had frozen in place on the sidewalk, watching as the rider strapped on his helmet and swung a leg over the red and chrome frame. As he revved the bike to life, Sirius’ breath caught, watching with awe and longing as the rider pulled away, the rumbling exhaust rattling their bones.
“When we leave school,” he muttered to her, still in a daze, “I’m going to get one of those.”
She laughed, pulling him along towards the market stalls, “Well if that’s the case, you’ll need to look the part.” Holding up a black leather jacket from a vendor selling different wildly flashy garments, she motioned for him to try it on. As he inspected the sleeve length and ran fingers over the zippers and buttons, he smiled.
“Your old one was getting gross,” she laughed again, handing the vendor some cash as Sirius beamed.
“Pub?” She raised her eyebrows, already knowing the answer. He threw a leather-clad arm around her shoulders, “You know me too well, little bee.”
———
“It’s definitely not as good at Ogden’s, but I’ll take it,” Sirius shot back Jack Daniels and grimaced. Though he didn’t care much for muggle whisky, he did seem to love the beer (she promised to smuggle some in their trunks for the ride back to school in September).
When the sun had set, and they had a little bit of a buzz, they meandered out into the street, walking down towards the river. The muffled sound of music carried from a few blocks away, the area fully alive even late into the night. They found themselves stopping beneath an old stone bridge, Sirius pulling out his cigarettes and offering her one. After a confirming nod, he lit them, handing one over with an annoying little bow.
“Fuck off,” she mumbled in jest, smirking as she watched him take a drag, the ember illuminating his face as he inhaled.
“So what now?” Smoke curled around his head, making him look practically ethereal in the low light.
“Uhm, well, we could see if there’s anything going on at the Roundhouse? Maybe even Dingwalls?” She flicked at her cigarette, watched as Sirius’ gaze turned to the walls of the bridge, covered in a multitude of graffiti and etchings.
“We should write something,” he covertly took out his wand and placed it against the stone.
“Sirius, no,” she let out a nervous laugh, “we’ll get in trouble—“
“Who’s going to know?” He motioned around under the empty bridge.
“The Department of Improper Use of Magic Office!” She hissed.
Sirius gave her a look, “Don’t be such a swot. They can’t trace who did magic, just where. Even if they find out, the most we’ll get is a warning.”
He was right, there was no one around, and the muggle cops rarely cared about what happened down here unless you were selling drugs or something. She sighed, leaning back against the wall as Sirius smirked and began muttering something while moving his wand around the stone. He nudged her with an elbow a few seconds later when he’d finished, “Your turn, Yellowjacket.”
Etched into the wall was Sirius Orion Black, he even added little crudely drawn stars above it for extra flair. She rolled her eyes and pulled out her wand, adding her own name beneath his, sans any additional doodles.
“Happy?” She said as she put her wand away.
He stared at their names, mulling something over.
“Hmmm…almost,” he mumbled, putting his wand back to the stone. A moment later, he took a final step back to admire his work. “There!” He exclaimed cheerfully.
A poorly drawn heart encompassed their names, one side of it being a little too wonky.
“Is that supposed to be a leaf?” She joked.
Sirius scowled, “No you fucker, it’s a heart!” He jabbed a finger into her ribs, tickling her as punishment. She gave a playful yell and grabbed his arm, “Knock it off!”
His hands flattened against her ribs, holding her in place as they stood pressed against each other. One of Sirius’ hands began to travel, trailing upwards to curve around the side of her neck. Her breath caught, the thumping heartbeat in her ears was so loud that she could barely hear when he asked, “Can I kiss you?”
She exhaled, almost as if she had been holding her breath since they had met all those years ago on the train.
“What took you so long?” She whispered.
And then his mouth found hers.
———
She needed him like oxygen, couldn’t get enough. He kissed her like he felt the same, one hand cradling her jaw as he explored every inch of her mouth.
God, he was intoxicating. Her head swam like she’d downed a bottle of whisky, hands roaming to graze beneath the hem of his shirt. Sirius pulled back slowly, eyes filled with what could only be described as reluctant restraint.
“Tell me to stop, and I will,” he whispered, licking his bottom lip. Her hands stilled against him, taking in the almost tortured look on his face.
“Please, Sirius,” she gripped his belt, “don’t ever stop.”
Then his mouth was on her again with a ferocity she had never experience before. He was consuming her; his taste, the feel of his body pressed against hers, the smell of smoke and leather and spice was overwhelming every sense. Her hands couldn’t move fast enough, couldn’t explore his body enough.
None of it was enough.
It would never be enough.
She would always want more of him.
She would always need him.
Sirius pushed her against the stone wall of the bridge, lifting to wrap her legs around his waist. As he trailed down her neck, one of her hands found its way to his hair, fingers running through the silken mess that she loved so much. The stones cut into her back as she arched against him, Sirius taking the opportunity to bite at the juncture of her neck and shoulder.
“Siri—“ she gasped, tightening her legs around him.
He groaned into her neck, “Say my name like that again, and we’ll never leave from under this bridge.”
She pulled at his hair and he laughed, even in the dark his smile lit up her soul. Sirius kissed her again slowly, until the sound of a passing group of people tore them from the moment.
He brushed a thumb over her bottom lip as she spoke, “Wanna check out one of the clubs?”
Sirius shook his head slowly, voice low, “I’d much rather continue this conversation at home.”
Home.
The way he had said it made her thoughts spiral. In the blink of an eye, she could picture it. A life, a future, with him. She hadn’t put much thought into what life would look like post-Hogwarts. The boys would always be a part of it obviously, but they all seemed to be diverting onto their own paths, and it looked like maybe Sirius’ was parallel to hers.
She kissed him one last time, setting her feet back on the ground. Lacing their fingers together she laughed, pulling him from under the bridge, “C’mon, I’m not letting you leave Camden without seeing a live show.”
Dingwalls was packed when they arrived, a new punk band from Surrey apparently playing a set that night. Drinks in hand, they pushed towards the stage, finding a spot against one of the side walls to stand against. Sirius pulled her back against his chest as they danced and drank to the fast thrumming of the music. He let his hands wander, leaning down to kiss her as much as he wanted. Maybe it was the atmosphere, the sweaty bodies and loud music drowning their senses, or maybe it was something else entirely, but time ceased to exist around them. Her hands tangled in Sirius’ hair as they leaned against the wall, his knee wedged between her legs as the the pounding drums echoed the elevated beat of their hearts. His arousal was evident against her thigh, and she smiled against the column of his neck as she pressed closer.
“You’re killing me, bee,” Sirius groaned into her ear, following up with a gentle bite to her lobe.
She looked up at him, eyes trying to convey innocence though she knew he didn’t buy it for a second. “Wanna head back?”
He kissed her for emphasis, grabbing her hand and practically dragging her out the door.
Later that night, she laid in her bed unable to relax. Her parents had already been asleep when her and Sirius arrived back from Camden well after midnight, tiptoeing upstairs to their respective rooms. The journey back had sobered them up a little, the night air cooling down whatever intense feelings had flared to near catastrophic levels in the club. Sleep never came, and she instead stared at the ceiling and tried to turn all thoughts away from Sirius Black sleeping across the hall. But when her bedroom door cracked open, a wave of relief washed over her.
Sirius shut it quietly, climbing into bed beside her like they had done so many times throughout the years. As he settled down beneath the sheets she turned to face him, “Can’t sleep?”
Sirius’ hand trailed along her hip, “I told you we’d finish our conversation from earlier, didn’t I?”
She smiled into a kiss, wrapping herself entirely in him.
In the early hours of dawn, she awoke to Sirius’ even breaths and perfect skin. He looked like a painting, like one of the romantics had crafted him from pure desire and passion and beauty. She almost felt guilty waking him, but at the risk of her parents seeing him leave her bedroom, it had to be done. He groaned into her neck as she scratched the back of his head.
“If you don’t go back to your room, my parents will kill us both,” she whispered, kissing him on the temple. Sirius made another dramatic noise as he sat up, reaching over the side of the bed for his clothes. Before leaving, he kissed her again, one filled with promises for more.
“See you at breakfast,” he murmured against her lips, slipping out the door and back to his room without another sound.

number oneeee: your art style is so beautiful, it feels so comforting just looking at your art.
number twooo: i’m an absolute sucker for both marlene mckinnon and the marylily ship and your work on them is immaculate. favourite headcanons?
number threeee: i truly hope u have a lovely day night and rest of the week
thank you for all the compliments and i hope you too have a lovely week <3
here are some headcanons!
marlene
youngest of three children, by the time she started attending hogwarts her older siblings had already graduated, and were generally making their parents proud with brilliant careers. for this reason, marlene’s parents never seemed to care about her or have any expectations for her, so she also stopped caring about her studies and grew a rebellious personality.
despite her disinterest in studying, since she came from a family of powerful wizards, magic wasn’t hard for her, and she was actually rather talented. however, she didn’t really believe she was a good witch because of the lack of attention from her parents in her childhood.
her witty and rebellious personality matched quite well with remus’, and they became close: they have matching stick n pokes on their ankles (done rigorously while drunk, marlene’s is a poorly drawn guitar and remus’ a wobbly record), and in the summer of 1976 remus brought her to muggle london to get cigarettes to resell at school (i have a couple of drawings about this actually)
her favourite band was the runaways: she could sing the entirety of “dead end justice”, and remus started calling her cherry because of the song “cherry bomb”.
very chill about everything. she actually encouraged people to experiment with expressing themselves, (“do you think wearing make up is for queers?” “david bowie wears make up, sirius. it’s fucking rock n roll”) and she was be a good listener. might encourage chaos tho, always eager to get in fights.
another quidditch nerd. she didn’t enjoy getting up at 5 am for practice, but that’s what you get when james fucking potter is captain. loved discussing strategies tho.
never really thought about being a lesbian. she just was, never felt the pressure of getting in a relationship with a boy.
rivalry with dorcas, both on the pitch and in class. dorcas took it very seriously, marlene saw it as a sort of game between the two of them.
marylily
friends to lovers. but not the sweet, “realised-i-love-you-more-than-a-friend” kind of dynamic: both lily and mary were very jealous, when they still weren’t aware of their feelings. lily never liked mary’s boyfriends, and mary seemed to dislike snape even more than marlene. snark remarks and eye-rolls. the good shi.
marlene connected the dots before mary and lily. she wanted to slap both of them for being stupid and blind, but at least she understood the tension.
when they were younger, mary would help lily being less shy: they were both muggleborns, but mary had never been intimidated by snobby purebloods, and lily admired her for it. because she was a girl and a muggle born, she was an easy target for purebloods who made fun of her being “the teachers pet”. (“lily it doesn’t matter who their parents are, you’re much better than them, so even if they call you names, don’t apologise for being smart!”)
lily fell first but sure as hell she didn’t realise it. mary, however, didn’t find out she liked her until they both confessed their feelings during an argument in their room (marlene proceeded to flee to give them some privacy)
the first girl mary ever kissed was emmeline, when she was still trying to figure out wether she liked women or not. lily was fuming when she found out.

Okay okay I just got Tickets for The Six Musical and it got me thinking which Wive of Henry the 8th the Valkyries would be and this is my result (hardly explanation because I could write a novel about this)
Catherine of Aragon -> Emmeline Vance
Anne Boleyn -> Marlene McKinnon
Jane Seymour -> Lily Evans
Anna of Cleves -> Dorcas Meadows
Katherine Howard -> Mary MacDonald
Catherine Parr -> Pandora Lovegood
What do you think? (I needed to share this with somebody lmao)
to be completely honest, I'm not all that into their lore (I know a little about the songs of the musical, and I know a few bc obviously. I'm not that uncultured)
I really want to watch the musical tho 😫 so currently I'm jealous of you
but, since I trust you, I absolutely wholeheartedly agree with you. your opinion is correct, and everyone who disagrees can go bury themselves in a hole

It was finally time for Valentines Day, and Marlene has been waiting forever for it. She's planned the most spectacular day for her and Dorcas, but first, she needs to check up on her friends.
James picks up after the first ring.
'Hello? Marls? I'm freaking out. I don't think I can do this.'
'Yes, you can, James. You'll be fine. He's going to love it. I promise. Sirius even said so.'
'I can't do this, Marls. He's going to hate me.'
'No, he won't. Just do it, and you'll thank me later.'
Marlene hears James sigh over the phone. 'If he doesn't like it, I'm blaming you.'
'And if he does, you'll be thanking me. Now go. Goodbye, James. I love you.'
'I love you, too, Marls.'
Now it's time for Sirius. He's going to be much harder since she isn't his most trusted friend. That's James. But she's going to try.
She clicks on Sirius' contact, and he picks up after five rings. 'Hello?'
'Sirius, you doing ok?'
'Yep. I'm perfectly fine.'
'James told me to call you.'
'Fucking cunt. No, Marls. I'm not doing ok. I'm freaking out. Help?'
'Just like I told James, he's going to love it. I promise.'
Sirius sighs over the phone. 'Yeah, you're probably right. Thank you, Marls.'
'Your welcome, Sirius. Goodbye.'
'Bye.'
Let's see, Lily' capable. Peter doesn't have a valentine. Mary. I should probably call Mary and maybe Lily. Let's start with Mary.
'Marls? What if Emmeline doesn't like it? What if I mess up?'
'Mar, I promise she'll love it. You'll thank me later, ok? I love you.'
'I love you, too.'
Ok, maybe I should try Lily. Sometimes, she's not as strong as people think she is.
She picks up after the second ring. 'Marls, I'm freaking out. I know you probably already talked to everyone else, but I need it, too.'
'I know, that's why I called. Now, what's wrong?'
'What if she says no? What if -'
'She won't. I promise. I love you and want the best for you, so just do it.'
'Fine. But if she says no, it's your fault.'
'Yeah, yeah. I love you.'
'I love you, too.'
Marlene might be the bravest, but sometimes she gets scared, too. Like right now, her fiancé is in the other room on her phone. She doesn't even know Marlene planned anything. So, I guess now is the time before she figures it out.
Marlene planned to propose to her today, but a few months ago, Dorcas, Marlene, and all their friends, went on a little hike, and James decided to pack Marlene' ring she got for Dorcas, and whipped it out, so she had no other choice but to do it.
So, James helped plan something else today and Marlene added her own little thing at the end of the day that James doesn't need to know about, but will probably do the same thing with Regulus.
Yesterday, Marlene went out and bought Dorcas some chocolates, flowers, and a bear. She gave them to her this morning.
Marlene wanted to take Dorcas to her favorite restaurant, but James said to take her to a fancier one called Eccentric Eating. James had said that he went there once with his parents but never went back after their deaths.
So, that's exactly what Marlene' going to do. She's going to take her fiancé to a fancy ass restaurant that her best friend recommended and hope that Dorcas likes it.
She did, in fact, like it very much. So much, in fact, Marlene' 'suprise' happened earlier than she thought it would. Marlene was surprised they even made it to their bed.
-
James had just hung up with Marlene, and he's still freaking out. I mean, much less, but still. Maybe, no. No. I need to do this. I'm gonna do this. Ok. I think I'm ready.
Regulus is out with Pandora right now and should be back in an hour. That gives James at least some time to man up. He needs to give his fiancé the best Valentines of his life.
Surprisingly, Marlene let James propose to Regulus at the same time she proposed to Dorcas. Usually, she likes to have that kind of stuff to herself, but since they've known each other so long, they got close enough where if they could, they would share clothes. And Marlene does take James' shirts even if their big.
So, James has decided that Regulus doesn't want a fancy ass fucking diner. He just wants James all to himself. Plus, Pandora and Regulus are out having a fancy ass lunch right now, anyway.
James has decided that he should just get Regulus some flowers and a meal. Since Regulus' favorite flowers are Arctic Willows, James decided to go with Lillies. Which - in James' opinion - is the closest anyone could possibly get.
Regulus' favorite meal is the chocolate soufflé, and that's exactly what he tried to make. But he doesn't think it turned out very well. It doesn't look as pretty as it's supposed to be, but his mum only taught him Spanish recipes, not French. It tastes okay, though. So, let's hope that's enough.
It was, in fact, enough. So much so that Regulus didn't even notice the lillies and was just staring at James the whole time. And they did, in fact, do the same thing as Marlene and Dorcas.
-
Sirius has planned everything out on how this day is going to go. But what he wasn't planning on was Remus not going to the library today. He goes every single day. Nothing stops him. Except for today. Something stopped him today, and Sirius has no idea what.
"Hey, Moons. Whatcha doin' here?" Sirius asks his husband.
"Reading." Remus replies without looking up from his book.
"You're usually at the library."
"I figured I could stay here today."
"Right, right. Of course you can."
He finally looks up from his book. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
Somehow Sirius did figure out how to get Remus out of the house for an hour and he made the most of the time he had.
When it comes to parties, Sirius goes all out, but this is not a party. It's Valentines Day. A day just for him and Remus.
Sirius did think about setting up streamers at some point, but Marlene talked him out of it. Instead, he went for roses on the bed in the shape of a heart and some champagne.
Remus came back an hour later - just as promised - and wasn't as surprised as Sirius thought he'd be. Maybe it's because Sirius practically kicked him out of the house or he just didn't like it. But one thing Sirius is for sure about, he liked the last present of the day.
-
Barty wasn't one for Valentines Day. Evan knew that, but he still tried.
First, he tried taking Barty out for breakfast. He didn't want to. He even tried buying him some chocolates, flowers, and a bear. He didn't like that either. He ran out of ideas before they even got to lunch.
Then, he decided to call Regulus. He picked up on the final ring.
'What do you want?'
'I need help.'
'Help with what?' Pandora' voice comes from the other end of the line.
'Panda? What are you doing there?'
'Lils kicked me out.'
'Fair enough. Anyway, I don't know what to do. Barty doesn't like anything I give him.'
'Ev,' Regulus starts. 'You know he doesn't like Valentines Day. Just have sex with him.'
'I don't want to know what happens with my brother, thank you.'
'Sorry. But, Ev, that's the best thing you're going to give him. He doesn't like anything else. Just try it, ok?'
'Yeah, ok. So, we just do it all day?'
'You do it anyway!' Pandora says.
'Yeah, you're right. Thanks, I love you both. Bye.'
So, that's exactly what Evan did. They had sex until they couldn't anymore.
-
Mary wasn't one for sentimental shit until Emmeline. Emmeline is the best thing that has happened to her in a long time - besides her friends. She doesn't know what she would do without her girlfriend.
Mary and Lily made a plan. Mary was going to take her out to brunch - since they both sleep in - and then go sightseeing in Paris. Oh, yeah. They're in Paris - of all places - spending Valentines Day together. Then, they would go back to their hotel and spend the rest of the night having mind-blowing sex.
And that's exactly what they did. They slept until noon, went to brunch, went sightseeing, and then had sex.
Mary was surprised she didn't propose today like everyone was going to. And honestly, she wouldn't be against it. She loves Emmeline so much that she would very much love to marry her. But, unfortunately, that's not what happened. Maybe next year.
-
Lily isn't sure if she should do this. I mean, sure, she loves Pandora so much, but she isn't sure if she's going to say yes. Maybe she should call Dorcas, too. Not just Marlene. No, I just need to do this. She's going to say yes. Marlene is sure of it.
So, she did. They went to Pandora' favorite place in England, New Forest. Where there are a bunch of plants and flowers.
When Lily saw Pandora' face light up after she realized where they were going, she knew she wanted to be with her forever.
"Lils, this is amazing." She was looking at all the flowers and plants. "I love you."
"Pandora Artemis Rosier," Pandora looks back at Lily, "the very first time I set my eyes on you, I knew you would be my forever. Even when we first started dating three years ago, I still knew you would be my forever. So, I'm asking you now, will you be my forever? Make me the happiest woman alive and make me your wife?"
Pandora smiles. "Yes, Lily, yes. Of course I'll marry you."

Some excerpts from the fic i’m writing:)
chapter one:
‘Thank fuck for you girls, honestly, this is just what I need.’ She exclaimed whilst flopping onto the sofa tightly between Mary and Lily, her best friends who had been there for her for everything.
‘Love you too Marls, bad day?’ Mary asked with a subtle undertone of worry. She knew it had only been six months and her friends had reason to be concerned, but Marlene didn’t need to be coddled. She pushed back the slight feelings of anger, knowing that her friends were being just that, her friends, and after everything she was the luckiest girl in the world to have people who still cared.
She dramatically sighed before saying, ‘Don’t worry, I'm okay, just casually met the love of my life and almost definitely made a very bad first impression.’
‘Spill!’ Lily exclaimed, always one for gossip despite being the kindest of them all.
chapter two:
Dinner at the Potter residence was a weekly event. The potter residence being James, Lily, and Sirius’s flat. They had been doing this for years, since they all came to uni, everyone would come together and chat and drink and cook and laugh. It was the highlight of all of their weeks, there were no expectations, no plans, just the chance to all be together and forget being adults for a night. Marlene used this night as an anchor, to remind herself of all that she still had and what she would lose if she fucked everything up again. Little had changed about these dinners in the six years since they started, they still joked and gossiped and made fun of each other, Peter and Mary still cooked the most delicious meals. Additions to the group had been made, Mary’s girlfriend Emmeline now came most weeks, Remus started coming as Marlene’s friend but now also as Sirius’s boyfriend. People had stopped coming, Gid and Fab had moved back to Spain, Benjy and Sirius had broken up and he was now firmly barred, yet for most the invite was always there should then want to attend. Just be at the Potter residence at 6:30 on Friday night.
chapter three:
tw for some depressive thoughts/metaphors
Marlene was under water, struggling desperately to resurface and not allow the tide she’d grown to know so well greet her like an old friend and carry her out of her depth. She had fought against the sea for so long at this point she had forgotten it’s power, forgotten how once she gave in, the comfort it provided. Sometimes being under water felt safest, like at least she knew she was overpowered and could surrender without guilt. Marlene knew that when she was underwater for long enough she could grow comfortable, because after all there was no happiness in death, and therefore no disappointment when joy was swept from under her and despair greeted her with a grin.
i have literally never written before and i’m aware this isn’t great but i’m hoping as i get further into it i improve:) no one ever told me that remembering the stuff you’ve written before is very difficult and therefore continuity is very difficult :’)

Dekarios clan blurbs
Figured I would share a bit more of the Dekarios fam (family tree is here) from infinitesimal!
------------------------------------------------------
Arianell Emmeline [50, half-elf druid] | Barmar Copperleaf [120, dwarf druid]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arianell was named after both the grandmother and grandfather she never got to meet (Arnell and Emmeline). Ari was born with a wild spirit and grew up loving nature, flowers, and animals, all from her mother. Arianell left home much younger than her twin, Marino, did, but Gale and Shadowheart supported her regardless (of course they would, who would they be to deny their children their greatest wishes?). Her first stop on her journey to discover all of Toril's natural wonders was Reithwin, to gain a better understanding of the druidic practices from her uncle Halsin. She was instantly obsessed with it, and spent a few years travelling between circles to learn how to be a druid and to find the right one for her.
That's when she meets Barmar. Barmar is an orphan but has a deep sense of family, which is is why he feels so at home in his own druid circle - big found family vibes. Barmar is warm and solid and so he and Ari don't get off on the best foot - she's much more tempestuous and fickle and flighty. But it also makes them really attracted to each other so, yknow, one thing leads to another and they're together 👀
After years in their circle and having their two daughters, they eventually move back in with Gale and Shadowheart - they are, after all, big family people. But it's never quite clear if they move in because of Ama moving out, leaving the home a bit of an empty nest, or because Ari and/or Barmar wanted to raise their daughters close to home (and Ari misses her mother).
And then we have their kids....
Andora [25, dwarf ranger] | Jenneline [23, dwarf]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Andora picks up ranging from her uncle Marino's partner, Thribur, since they tend to visit the family home quite often. As she grows older she travels with Mari and Thribur on some of their adventures. Jenneline is named after both her grandmother and great grandmother, in tradition with her mom, and does not have a career chosen as of yet but alas, the default character creator did not let me choose 'civilian'.
------------------------------------------------------
Marino [50, half-elf wild magic sorcerer] | Thribur [35, half-orc ranger]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marino's name is a play on Morena Dekarios. Marino is the older of the Dekarios twins, and the more calm and collected of the two. He's definitely very charming and charismatic, and no one especially expected him to be a sorcerer, let alone a wild magic one. His powers developed very early on as he was a child, and Tara took him under her wing to learn the best of his abilities. It was Tara's death is what spurred him to finally leave his family home. After that he spent many years travelling and taking on odd jobs, but never straying far from home, always coming back for visits with his parents and his younger sister Ama.
Eventually he meets Coelor, they have Tera, but they don't stay together for long. Along his travels he meets Thribur, his current partner, and they settle more full-time in Secomber to be close to Coelor and Tera, and splitting the rest of their time between Waterdeep and their various adventures. I like to imagine Mari as the cool uncle that hangs around home all the time because he loves his family so much haha.
Coelor [66, half-elf] | Tera Dekarios [16, half-elf]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Coelor is Mari's former partner and mother of Tera. They didn't end up working out and were only together briefly, but have stayed really close friends and co-parent Tera. Tera is named after Mari's third parent, none other than Tara.
------------------------------------------------------
Amastacia [31, half-elf school of illusion wizard] | Lynel [45, half-elf school of divination wizard]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amastacia is the third Dekarios child, though not planned. Gale and Shadowheart wanted two children, introverted and small as their own families were, but Ama was yet another surprise for them. She was withdrawn and logical, and took after her father the most (she's a real dad's girl). Seeing the love and appreciation her father had for the art of wizardry, she decided to learn what she could from him and delve deep into her own studies, eventually leading her to Hosttower to further her studies into illusion magic even more.
At Hosttower she meets Lynel, a fellow graduate student finishing their own studies in divination studies. As of yet they've been together for almost two years, the two of them fitting together nicely but also very differently - Lynel was an only child, but Ama grew up surrounded by her family (even if it wasn't the largest). They're both fascinated by the art of wizardry, and are not super outward in terms of their affection, but tend to show it through their support and understanding of each other.

Emmeline headcanons or fav ships?
Oh oh oh! I love her!
So canonically what we know about Emmeline Vance is that she was a part of the order of the phoenix in both wars, she was a part of the group that escorted Harry from Privet Drive in OOTP, and she died in the summer between OOTP and HBP after Snape passed on information to the Death Eaters that led to her murder (described as brutal).
Age wise, house wise, blood-status wise, friend wise, we have no damn clue and it's all up to interpretation.
Now I have headcanons that I tend to use when writing her (like the way she is in my dorcissa fic and this emmary oneshot), and I have some other thoughts that I enjoy thinking about. Generally, I make her Narcissa's age (just like Dorcas), and a Slytherin, because I like playing with her as halfblood witch in the Slytherin girls dorm.
But since we don't know her age (just like Marlene and Dorcas, she could be Regulus' age as easily as she could be Voldemort's age), I also like to imagine her being closer to Minerva and Poppy's or even Dumbledore's or Voldemort's age. An old friend to the older characters we know, a respected witch, someone firmly established in the community before the first war ever breaks out. Someone the younger members of the order of the phoenix can look up to, and someone who maybe even remembers the fight with Grindelwald.
That's not how I tend to write her though, because as much as I like to picture these characters as older than the whole "every order member was a teenager when they joined" thing, it does just make more sense storytelling wise to include more characters around the ages of those we know from canon. So for the sake of my headcanons, she's around the age of Narcissa (who for similar reasons, I tend to put in the same year as the marauders just because it's fun, but for Emmeline's story that really doesn't matter at all. It just matters that she's the same age as Narcissa and Dorcas, as well as Emma Vanity and my OC Elaheh Shafiq.)
Also my thoughts on ships differ a lot and the headcanons vary and I don't wanna make this post too long. My favourite ships for her are Emmeline/Mary, Emmeline/Narcissa, and Emmeline/Hestia/Amelia, so I might make separate posts about those later if anyone's interested but I'm not including too much of any of them in the basic headcanons. There's some emmary in here, but it's not the focus.
So: Emmeline Vance.
Halfblood witch: Halfblood dad and muggleborn mother. Her dad died when she was young and her mother raised her in the muggle world, secretly hoping Emmeline would be a squib. Magic wasn't something Emmeline was excited about, but something she feared recognising in herself.
Intimidated by the thought of going to Hogwarts, even more so when she got sorted into Slytherin. Her mother told her to stay away from purebloods and their antics, and now she found herself surrounded by them.
Her best friend is Elaheh Shafiq, the youngest and most talkative daughter of the Shafiq family. She's pureblood, with three Hufflepuff sisters and a heart of gold that's never read a social cue in her damn life. Emmeline is quiet and attentive, notices everything and says very little. They click immediately.
They share a dorm with Emma Vanity (a halfblood witch who's determined to become famous and marry a pureblood wizard so everyone will forget her bloodstatus) and Dorcas Meadowes (a pureblood witch who's struggling to find a line between appreciating her ancestry and staying away from pureblood fanatics), later joined by trans girl Narcissa Black.
Emmeline gets along with Narcissa much more than she expected to, but it doesn't last long after they get a bit older. They share a relatively close friendship for two years, and then never again.
She intends to stay out of the war because she doesn't want to worry her mum any more, but as they get to the later years of school and she sees more and more cases of murder in the Prophet, and she hears more other students talk about wanting to fight (or, worse and in Slytherin more common too, becoming death eaters), she changes her mind.
Seventh year Emmeline starts preparing for an auror training with all that she has. She ignores most of her (some former) friends, refusing to play nice with anyone in allegiance with future death eaters any longer, and is very very sad that this includes Emma Vanity and Narcissa Black.
As soon as she graduates, she's accepted into an auror's program. Here she becomes friends with Frank Longbottom, Hestia Jones, and is happy to reconnect with slightly older Slytherin Kingsley Shacklebolt.
Through Frank and Kingsley, she joins the order as soon as Moody thinks she's up for it, and she becomes a valuable asset to the fight. She stays to herself, not trying to make too many new friends after her training is done. When everyone starts dying, she's quite grateful for that.
Emmeline finds it incredibly difficult to stop feeling like she's at war even after the first war is over. She becomes a feared and infamous auror, working closely with Moody to round up any escaped death eaters, and she's one of the few people who totally understands his extreme paranoia.
This is what starts and ends her relationship with Mary MacDonald. She meets Mary because she wants to check on fellow surviving order members after the war, and they fall in love through shared trauma and a desire to find something positive in everything they've gone through.
They break up because Mary can't continue to stay up every night wondering if Emmeline's gonna come home from auror's missions alive, and Emmeline can't bring herself to stop fighting because every moment she doesn't spend trying do fix the world feels like a moment she wastes the sacrifices of those who didn't survive the war.
It takes her years to stop fighting. She eventually manages to gain a position high up in the auror's office where she doesn't have to be in the field as much, and she finally gets herself to feel alive even when she's not putting herself in harm's way.
Shortly after that, the second war begins. She's approached to rejoin the order, and Mary MacDonald goes as far as to seek her out to beg her not to, but the decision's been made before the question's officially asked.
Emmeline has complete faith in the order's and Harry's ability to stop Voldemort for real this time, and she's determined to help them in whichever way she can. She starts going through old order member's journals and belongings, those she can manage to retrieve.
She promises herself that after the second war ends, she'll live a quiet life. By then, surely she can say that she's done enough and she can live peacefully, maybe even find a way to reconnect with Mary. Maybe get a hobby. Live in the muggle world for a while, even.
Emmeline never expects that she's going to be betrayed. She's really tried to tone down her mistrust and paranoia towards everyone around her. She doesn't see Snape's betrayal coming.
She gets brutally murdered a year into the second war. The last thing she thinks is that she ought to have listened to her mother (who's still alive) more carefully.

Marlene and Mary's last conversation
"You quit the order? We haven't even gone on a single mission yet!"
Mary looked up from her magazine, "what?"
"Minerva told me! She said you went to her and Dumbledore about it the other day!"
"I did", Mary said, dropped the magazine on her bed and folding her arms, "Why are you so mad about it?"
Marlene huffed, still standing by the door, "because you left the order! That's our future, Mary!"
"No it fucking isn't!"
"Of course it is! We're meant to fight!"
"You go do that then, but don't drag me into it!"
"Drag you into it? It was your choice! I didn't make you do anything!"
"Well what are you doing right now then, huh?"
The two turned as footsteps were heard, Lily and Emmeline appearing just behind Marlene in the doorway.
Marlene whipped her head to glare at the two, "Do you two know about this?"
Lily promptly grabbed Emmeline's hand and dragged her out the room and down the stairs.
Mary spoke again, "I told Emmeline about it and she's fine with my decision. I gave her my wand; since school's over now, I won't need it."
"Your wand? What are you leaving the whole world, are you?"
Mary stood up, wordless.
"You are..."
"I am. My sister said I could stay with her and her girlfriend until I get my own place."
"I don't fucking care; you can't just leave us!"
"I'm leaving the war, if any of you decide to do the same then I'll let you stay in my life."
"Stay in your life? What the fuck doss that mean?"
"Do you even understand what your life will be like once we leave? It'll be constant danger, constant violence, constant fear! Why would I ever want to be a part of that again!"
Marlene froze, a look of realisation taking over her eyes, "This is about Mulciber."
Mary didn't speak.
"You left the order because of him?"
Mary nodded, sitting back down on her bed. Marlene swore, turning to bang her head slightly on the doorframe.
She turned back to Mary after a moment, "Leaving the war, leaving the world, leaving us, is just giving him power. That's what people like him want you to do, you shouldn't let them."
Mary glared, "You can't tell me what I can and can't do, Marlene."
"Yes, I can! He's the one who can't, and yet you're letting him have exactly what he wants! Mary, I'm your best friend!"
"Well you're acting like your mother right now."
Marlene glared back, "Fuck you."
"You've complained to me for seven years about how controlling your mother is, making plans for your entire future. And that's exactly what you're doing to me now!"
"Because we made those plans together and now you're just leaving me!"
"Not everything is about you, Marlene.."
Marlene folded her arms, tears in her eyes, "James and Sirius would never leave each other."
"God, we're not them! Don't you get that? I get that James abandoned you for his bloody soulmate or whatever, and so you found me to abandon him for. But you can't just pretend to be him forever!"
"That is not-"
"Not true? Oh come on, you act like his parents are yours, you made out with Lily when he started liking her, you joined the quidditch team when you found out he was, and you befriended me when he left you for Sirius. I know you barely graduated, but even you should get how weird that is."
Marlene stared at Mary, her friend looking back with a gaze full of defence before skirting her eyes to the floor.
"I know we're not James and Sirius."
Mary didn't look up.
"We're Marlene and Mary. And I thought that meant something, but clearly not!"
"Marls-"
"No! You want to leave me? Fine! Go fuck off and be a coward like always!"

mormon polygamy statistics postings part #?
I noticed something very interesting whilst on FamilySearch compiling other statistical information about Brigham Young's wives and children, so I decided to crunch the numbers and document it here.
My hypothesis: a disproportionate (compared to my assumptions based on 19th century family composition) number of Brigham Young's wives seemed to be Oldest Daughters TM.
the statistical parameters:
I documented the birth order of 24 of Brigham Young's wives. This group includes all sixteen women with whom he had children, as well as several marriages that were childless but where the woman in question cohabited with him for the rest of his/her life. I did not include a) any wives with whom he never cohabited b) any marriages that broke up within a year or two c) any marriages with women who were significantly older than him because I think that was likely primarily a caretaking arrangement. I did include Ann Eliza Webb, even though she divorced him, because her relationship was significantly longer than the other marriages that ended in divorce.
my findings:
6 of Brigham Young's wives were the firstborn daughter in their family of origin. (Mary Ann Angell, Lucy Decker, Margaret Alley, Harriet Barney, Amelia Folsom, and Ann Eliza Webb).
9 were the secondborn daughter. (Miriam Works, Clarissa Ross, Eliza Snow, Ellen Rookwood, Emmeline Free, Margaret Pierce, Martha Bowker, Lucy Bigelow, and Eliza Burgess).
4 were middle children. (Clara Decker, who was Lucy Decker's little sister, Emily Partridge, Naamah Carter, and Mary van Cott).
5 were younger children. (Augusta Adams, Harriet Cook, Louisa Beaman, Susannah Snively, and Zina Huntington).
A note on how I classified things: sometimes, "middle child" versus "younger child" is a bit more of a gray area. Everyone included as a younger child was either the youngest or second-youngest child in their family except Zina Huntington, who was the third-youngest but had eight siblings and was also the youngest girl, so I felt that she fit more with the younger children than the middles. The "middle children" group were those who were closer to the middle than the end or the beginning as well as anyone who had at least two older sisters and did not fit into the "oldest daughter" or "second oldest daughter" slots.
I differentiated between oldest and second-oldest daughters because I think it's interesting that it was actually second daughters who were most common, but if we group the two together as a sort of overarching "Older Sister Demographic" they form an overwhelming majority. (And I do think it makes sense to group them together, because pretty much everybody in the secondborn daughter category still had a large number of younger siblings and if they were secondborn in a family of 8-10 kids and had one sister who was only a couple years older, they likely took on a lot of the 19th Century Older Daughter tasks as well).
conclusions:
I think the "older sister" group is definitely overrepresented in terms of what you would statistically expect. Interestingly, it's the "middle child" group that really seems underrepresented, especially since in an era where most families had 6+ kids (and often significantly +) there were a lot more middle children than there are now.
It's interesting to speculate about this: was Brigham Young more interested in women who were Older Daughters/Older Sisters (not saying he was thinking about it that explicitly, but was he drawn to women with a particular personality type affected by that experience)? Or were women who had that upbringing more likely to sign on to this type of polygamist household?
Also, I don't want to make too much of a Freudian point here, and it might be total coincidence, but if you're wondering about HIS place in the birth order, Brigham was the 9th out of 11 children. His mother was extremely ill with tuberculosis for most of his childhood and his primary caregiver growing up was his teenage sister Fanny, the second oldest girl in the family. They remained very close as adults and she actually lived with him and all the wives.

I've been thinking a lot about the Voldemort wins/marauders separated au and i have some thoughts that i need to share
SO the main characters would be James, Sirius, Remus, Peter, Lily and Mary
Sirius, Remus and Mary would already be in a relationship when the fic begins
I'm thinking that maybe they just graduated???
So they all get captured by Death Eaters and are separated depending on their blood status. While they were on the run they made a pact that if they ever got caught then they'd do whatever it takes to survive and make it back to each other
Sirius, James and Peter become Death Eaters
Remus gets sent to Greyback and becomes a member of his pack
Mary gets sent to Azkaban for stealing magic
And Lily is forced to marry Snape (i reckoned that if Voldy was willing to spare Lily just because Snape asked him to then he'd let her avoid Azkaban to like marry him instead)
The majority of the fic is going to be them all trying to get back to each other while fighting all of the brainwashing shit that would go on
In terms of ships
I'm thinking of Peter with a Death Eater also. My mind is going for Juliette Wilkes
Idk what i'm doing with James or Lily yet
And then ofc Sirius, Mary and Remus
I'm going to make someone else a werewolf tho idk who yet. maybe not a werewolf, maybe like a different "half-breed" creature. Maybe somone like Emmeline Vance or Amelia Bones or Florence Greengrass. Maybe more then one, just to avoid me having to make ocs for the werewolves.
Mary is going to have a cell next to Dahlia Fleur Peri, Lucinda Talkalot and Alexander Stebbins and somehow them and a bunch of other muggleborns that im going to pull out of my arse are going to escape Azkaban
Lily would be living with Snape and while she's there she'll meet Pandora (who is like a prisoner kinda but being used for her power. she has something going on i just don't know what yet) and Charity (she's someone else who Snape convinced Voldemort to let go. Charity is supposed to be Snapes assistant but he just lets her do whatever she wants cause they're buddies) Lily is basically trying to escape where she is while also finding out how to help her friends
As for Sirius, James and Peter i don't really know much about what they could be doing other than just Death Eater shit. Maybe Voldemort would use Sirius in particular as like this leader/spokesperson since he was so rebellious beforehand and could be seen as some kind of hope?? All i know is that whatever they're told to do they would all do because of their pact
The first part of the fic would end with them all together again and then the second part im thinking they're all corrupt and lowkey just take over the wizarding world themselves??
I dont read a lot of dark Voldemort wins aus mostly because none of them include ships that I like so please if anyone has any ideas as to what could be happening or what any of them would have to do please dont hesitate to share because i have a lot of ideas but idk which ones would be best.
also i've come up with a name. I'm calling it Blood Stained Flags

End Game Romantic Relationships
Hi, let's get into what my endgame relationships are for my Rewrite, how I change them, how they develop and why I chose them.
Before we get into any of the ships, the first thing I'm going to say is that none of the main five end up with each other. Meaning no Ronmione. The reason for this is because I wanted all the main five to end up with someone outside of the main friend group to me it makes more sense with what I have planned. Now let's get into the ships;
Hinny - Harry x Ginny
I kept these two being canon because I think the concept of they're love story is cute. I also am doing a rewrite of Cursed Child and I need the kids to exist. Seriously though I think these two would be good for each other and I'm going to lead up to them more. I basically make Harry have a crush on her as well so they're relationship is just mutual pining for awhile until Ginny has had enough and asks Harry out near the end of the fifth book.
Fremione - Fred x Hermione
Honestly considering the canon of the Cursed Child, I think Fred and Hermione are a better couple. Especially since Fred has always gotten along with Hermione. I think they're a better example of "opposites attract". Fred and Hermione get together in the fourth book after Hermione dumps Krum. They're relationship is more of a secret though cause of Molly's behaviour scared Hermione. The first people that were told were George, Neville and Percy.
Nuna - Neville x Luna
One, how could I not? Two, they deserved better. Neville and Luna flirt with each other and are the type of couple that are just "they were dating before it was official", they do become official after book five. Neville asks if she'd be his girlfriend and she responds with "I thought we were already dating?"
Blairon - Blaise x Ron
I needed to include ONE main Slytherin x Gryffindor ship in here. I specifically chose this one because it fits with the arc I have planned for Ron. Ron is very clique in my version of the story, often being hostile towards people who try and befriend his friends, especially Slytherins so him going from that to dating a Slytherin I think fits. There is also an arch for him being afraid to be a disappointment to his family and I think him dating Blaise would be a good ending to that arc as well. They start liking each other during they're time in Dumbledore's army, Blaise is the first one to flirt, he also invites Ron to Slughorn's party. They don't get together until after Hogwarts.
Drastoria - Draco x Astoria
Childhood Friends-Enemies-Friends-Lovers. That's it. Draco has always loved Astoria, he thought his crush on her went away but when they met again at Hogwarts it came back full force. Astoria took a while to start liking Draco, it only really happening it the seventh book. Astoria and Draco start being friends again during the fifth book, they get together during Astoria's last year at Hogwarts.
Some other ships that are going to be canon:
Sirius x Remus
Mary x Emmeline
Dorcus x Marlene
Peter x Sibill
Dumbledore x Grindelwald
Pansy x Daphne
Fleur x Tonks (One-sided)
Fleur x Bill
Bellatrix x Rita Skeeter
George x Angelina
(They're might be more added as I write the story but those are the main ones)

all my devotion turns violent!!! or thirsty for the pain :)
hi linds!!
i've talked about all of my devotion turns violent here! i wish i had a snippet to give you but alas that doc is a wasteland...
but thirsty for the pain!! this one is actually a little trilogy of modern aus, each one based on a lauren sanderson song. the series title is from the song thirsty which has the perfect vibe for these fics
the fics:
guess we're getting older (and life must begin): this one is a marylene fic set in the summer between high school and college. it was originally going to be marlene-centric but now i think it would suit mary better? it's based on the song begin and it's going to be mary coming to terms with being in love with her best friend. because to her these feelings for marlene are something she should have grown out of by now. because life is really Starting soon, and she doesn't think this is what she's meant to be feeling
i tried to warn you babe (and now you're just frustrated): based on the song frustrated this one is an emmeline-centric emcas fic that takes place in the beginning of college. emmeline and dorcas meet through mutual friends and start a little fwb thing, and dorcas wants more but emmeline can't give her more. she's dealing with some commitment and abandonment issues since her ex cheated on her
you looked in my eyes (and started tearing up): and lastly an emmalily fic based on the song hotel room. this one takes place near the end of college. emma plays college football, and she and lily have a bit of a situationship going on because emma cannot commit and doesn't know how to do relationships and lily is sick of it
