part i - Luke's hardest mission in life is attempting to befriend a snappy demigod who treats books like her friends and thinks the only thing in life is Harvard.

part ii - Luke, Chris, and Y/N's trip back to Camp Half-Blood has been rough but Y/N is met with a pleasant surprise when she is claimed the moment she steps into camp.

part iii - Luke is slowly falling for Y/N L/N, Athena's pride and joy. However, Athena refuses to accept their forming relationship because she designed Y/N to be an independent, classy, and intelligent girl.

part iv - Y/N and Luke have finally put their differences aside and after months of practically begging Athena to let them date, the goddess of wisdom finally steps out of the way.

part v - After spending a good few years at Camp Half-Blood, Y/N is ready to begin a new chapter in her life. While she attends Harvard, Luke remains at camp, never really knowing what’s happening in Y/N’s life until he receives a call.

this is the first thing i've ever written for jess, so i you enjoy besties <3 also, i am a lorelei and rory stan, so if you aren't or want to say anything mean, say it to a wall.

"holding hands under the table." (from this prompt list)

when you and jess got together, you wanted to keep it on the dl. well, he wanted to keep it on the dl. although you weren’t best friends with rory gilmore, you were kind of friends and he didn’t want to create any animosity between you, so you decided to not tell anyone about it.

before school, you would meet in the back parking lot where no one ever was. jess brought a surprise pastry to share and a cup of hot chocolate while you brought a new book.

"on the menu today, vanilla scones with lemon icing."

"ooh, luke's getting fancy." you teased.

"i'm pretty sure he bought them."

"then disregard what i said."

"and what book did you bring today?"

"kirk told me i had amazing taste when i bought the book."

"kirk told you that? why would kirk be working at the bookstore?"

"who knows? i've learned to stop questioning kirk." you handed it over to him.

"really?" you shrugged, "i am not reading this."

"oh, you're boring. come on, it's a good book." you insisted. he opened his mouth to argue when the bell rang, "are you actually going to come to class today?"

"i don't know, i kind of like hearing you recite everything back to me." you playfully shoved his head and grabbed your stuff, "i'm kidding. we'll see. i have some stuff to do before."

"what could you possibly be doing right now?"

"stuff." he responded, "i'll see you later. promise i'll be there."

"you better." he leaned down and kissed your forehead before he was on his way, "i'm holding you to it, mariano." he gave you a thumbs up.

true to his word, jess walked into class as if he hadn't missed the majority if the day, "you know, when you said you had some stuff to do, i didn't think it would take all day."

"you'll be happy to know i got you something." he produced a flower he had definitely picked from the garden on the way to school.

"awh, that's sweet." you cooed, "how much do we owe taylor for it?"

"he won't even know it's missing." jess rolled his eyes, leaning back in his chair then grabbing your hand and holding it in his lap under the table, "i got you something else too, but that'll have to wait till later."

"ooh."

"not like that." he rolled his eyes, "a cd."

"cd? jess mariano, you are spoiling me." you smiled.

"anything to see you smile." he gave you a sarcastic smile.

"Rory flirted non-stop with Jess in front of Dean! He had every right to be mad and react the way he did! He was a saint for putting up with it for so long"

Let's unpack this claim, shall we? After reading fantastic Gilmore Girls recaps by @saltygilmores my memory to Rory's shameless and scandalous flirting with Jess in front of Dean is refreshed, so I can list it here:

2x05 Rory and Jess first meet, he tries to get her to ditch dinner with him, she convinces him to stay. She is nice to him but not flirting. He seems interested in her though.

2x05 Rory and Jess run into each other at night and he is flirting by showing her a magic trick and giving her a book with his notes in the margins. She calls him "Dodger" which could be considered flirty, but it's not something I can't imagine her doing with Paris or Lane.

2x06 Jess dresses up as Luke and Rory looks at him and laughs. Oh the horror! How dare she look at another man! Doesn't she know she should put blinders on whenever Dean isn't around?

2x08 Rory runs into Jess in front of Doose's and rips him a new one. She tells him off for making Luke's life more difficult. She does admit that the prank he pulled was a little funny though. Then Dean runs into them and Rory isn't ashamed to introduce him as her boyfriend. She in no way, shape or form flirts with Jess in front of Dean in this moment, but Dean seems territorial and antagonistic to Jess from the start.

2x08 Jess takes Rory's advice and makes Luke's life a bit easier by fixing his toaster. On the way from the diner he smiles at Rory and she smiles back. Kind of flirty

2x10 Jess arrives at Bracebridge dinner and waves at Rory and Dean which makes Dean lose his mind. Rory does nothing.

2x10 Jess jumps into Rory's carriage which is not something she was expecting or could prevent. She tells him off for it and for fighting Dean previously. She becomes more understanding when he tells her he was really fighting some other guy who is allegedly a jerk. Jess proceeds to asks her what she has in common with Dean and she tries to find an answer. She defends Dean when Jess calls their relationship a "teacher - student" thing. They talk about Jess's family. Again, not really flirting.

2x10 Rory and Jess make eye contact across the room. Dean almost loses it. I will admit the eye contact was kind of flirty in an 18th century romance novel kind of way.

2x12 Rory laughs at a prank Jess pulls and Jess says: "you owe me an egg roll". Rory smiles as she watches Jess walk away. Kind of flirty territory.

2x13 Jess runs into Dean and Rory making out in Doose's and Dean gets mad because Jess "bugs him" and "is always around". Rory minimally interacts with Jess in this scene and tries to console angry Dean.

2x13 Jess bids on Rory's basket which makes Dean fly into unprecedented levels of rage. He should be mad at Jess but he chooses to yell at Rory who didn't even know about it instead.

2x13 Jess appears and Rory chooses to go with him to lunch over angry Dean who is throwing a tantrum. If he hadn't been so mad beforehand I would have understood him, because it is kind of shitty that his girlfriend is choosing to go on a lunch date with another guy over him, especially given the romantic nature of this event. Dean then storms off to tell on Rory to her mom. He says that he is worried that Jess will get Rory in trouble. What kind of trouble you ask? Well for starters realizing he is mediocre, dumping him, dating Jess and experiencing a healthy relationship and an orgasm in her life.

2x13 Rory and Jess go on their lunch date during which Rory starts out very cold to Jess, defending Dean and asking Jess why is he messing with him and tells him it's not funny.

2x13 Rory warms up to Jess and they have conversation about recommending each other books. Not something she wouldn't do with Paris or Lane too. But I will admit: "Earnest only has lovely things to say about you" and the look she gives him after IS flirting. But Dean is not there to see any of it.

2x13 after their lunch they go to a bookstore and then to get pizza, but sadly we don't see any of it to determine if Rory was flirting with him or not. It can be argued that hanging out alone with another guy is flirting, but come on book buying? In broad daylight? How scandalous! It is unclear if Dean ever found out about this.

2x13 okay this is one of the few times Rory is overtly flirty with Jess. She calls him on the phone and tells him that if he reads the book she recommended and doesn't like it, she will "make it up to him". What was she planning to do?? I guess Jess must have loved the book in the end because she never "made it up to him" (if you know what I mean wink wink)

2x15 Rory gets flustered when Jess compliments her hair. She also tells him off for not being nice enough to her mother and tells him to make an effort. Later in the episode she tells him she lost the bracelet that Dean had made for her and is scared that Dean will be mad. If you don't count getting a bit flustered after Jess complimented her hair, there is no flirting on Rory's part in this entire episode. In fact she spends it scared of Dean and trying to please him.

2x16 Jess brings Rory food because he knows she is alone for the night. Then kind of rudely invites himself over for dinner (three people invade Rory's alone night in that episode). Rory convinces Paris to eat with them just so that she is not alone with Jess, presumably because she knows that if Dean ever found out he would fly into Godzilla levels of rage. Dean does find out and does fly into Godzilla levels of rage. And it's very fortunate that Paris is there and covers for Rory. But I will admit that Rory making excuses as to why Dean shouldn't come over and then coming out of the house with Jess does look suspicious. Still Dean didn't even try to find out the whole story or let her explain, he just started yelling.

2x16 Dean watches through the window as Rory talks to Jess over the counter at Luke's. Their conversation looks flirty but Dean has no idea what they are actually saying. I will admit here Rory does flirt with Jess in front of Dean but she is not doing it on purpose. She doesn't know Dean is watching so she is not doing it to "provoke him" or anything like that.

2x17 Rory bosses Jess around throughout this episode and calls him all sorts of names like "despot" and "punk". In the end she tells him "welcome to the town". It is kind of flirty but again, Dean is not there to witness any of it and probably never finds out.

2x18 Rory blows Dean off to hang out with Lane at the diner. It is unclear if Jess will be working a shift there at the same time. Dean mopes on Lorelai's porch and asks her: "she likes Jess, doesn't she?" to which she looks sad. Mind you, he continues dating her for 11 more episodes after this. No one asked him to do that. He did no one any favors.

2x19 Rory asks Lorelai to lie to Dean about her tutoring Jess. Suspicious but justified given that a season ago Dean completely lost his shit upon seeing another guy next to her holding her books and Lorelai does it anyway. Jess flirts with Rory while she tries to tutor him and tries to impress her with magic tricks. It charms a smile out of her once, the rest of the time she is annoyed and throws his cards away.

2x19 Rory does however agree to get ice cream with him and stupidly lets him drive her car. She also agrees to continue driving in circles with him instead of going back to the diner to study. In the car she asks him flirty questions such as: "why aren't you going to college?" And "why don't you try harder in school?" She does have a lot of fun with Jess in this episode, much more than with Dean but apart from one instance of prolonged eye contact it's not the kind of fun she wouldn't have with Paris or Lane too.

2x20 Rory is terrified to tell Dean that she got into a car accident with Jess in which the car he had built her was totalled so she writes him a letter. It is unclear to what extent did she say what happened between them in the letter. Dean responds as any rational and stable person would- by throwing a bag on the ground and kicking it. But to be fair, after he finds out that Jess is really gone, he gets eerily calm.

2x21 okay here she does flirt with Jess. She skips school to go see him in New York where they spend the day together. I would understand Dean being mad if he ever found out about this, but to our knowledge he doesn't.

2x22 Rory kisses Jess! She soon realizes what she did and pulls away. This is the only instance she physically cheats on Dean yet Rory antis never shut up about it.

3x01 & 3x02 Rory talks quite loudly in public about having kisses Jess, both to Lorelai and Jess. With Jess they have an argument about it in Doose's! Despite this, we never know if Dean ever found out, but my guess is he didn't because I don't think he would keep quiet about it and not fly into unprecedented Godzilla levels of rage over this. Seems very out of character.

3x04 this is one of my least favorite Rory moments. She acts like a Karen and tells Jess's new girlfriend/hookup off while she is at work. Lane is also yelling at Jess and mad at him on Rory's behalf, but iirc all Rory tells him is: "you left your bra in the backseat!"

3x05 Rory is looking for Dean to help her fix the sprinklers but runs into Jess instead. Jess offers to help her fix them. They make eye contact while they are soaked in sprinkler water. Once Dean pages her, Jess turns the sprinklers back on so that Dean can be the hero and save the day. Dean never finds out about it.

3x06 Rory eggs Jess's car. That's not flirting, that's a felony!

3x07 here Rory does banter in a flirty way in front of Dean. And she does obviously use Dean to make Jess jealous. It's also the episode Dean finally has the balls to break up with her, which he chooses to do publicly by airing out how she is obviously in love with Jess in front of the whole town. Was it wrong to flirt with Jess in front of Dean that evening? Yes. Does the punishment fit the crime though? I'm not sure.

So to sum up, as far as Dean's concerned Rory's "unabashed and shameless flirting" with Jess includes: eye contact across the room, having lunch together at a town festival, having dinner together during which she tried to set him up with Paris, talking over the counter at Luke's, crashing a car together, and then bantering at the dance marathon. And we know how he reacted to these things. I am not defending lying to your partner but in this case I understand why she felt the need to. Imagine if he had known the full extent of it.

A List Of My Favorite Gilmore Girls AU's, Conspiracy Theories and Ridiculous Headcanons

There are definitely more... as I think of them I'll keep adding to it. But these are the biggies and some of my favorites. 13. Jess eventually gains custody of Doula and she avoids ending up in the cult, and she changes her name to something way less stupid. 12 Jess and Lane have an awkward fling as an act of rebellion to piss off Mrs. Kim (I can't see any long term compatability here) and because Jess is like eh why not, pissing off one Stars Hollow mom just wasn’t enough for Jess (2024 update: Madeline, Louise, and Lindsay have all been added to the bang roster 😋) 11. There is an alternate universe where Jess ends up enrolled at Chilton because his mother conned some rich fucker into marrying her and he used his money and influence to bribe Headmaster Charleston into letting him in. Even if Luke had the money he would never have enough pull to make it happen. 10. Rory was actually a hero for sleeping with Dean and breaking up Dean's marriage so Lindsey could escape 9 Luke, Jess, and/ or Rory finally snap one day after they can't take any more bullshit and go on a rampage around Stars Hollow slaughtering the many people who have wronged them (the Blood In The Hollow triology) 8. Taylor Doose is pocketing all the money made from the festivals in Stars Hollow and he has no intention of fixing The Bridge or putting that money towards other charitable causes 7.In season 4 when Jess is living in New York and Luke insinuates Jess is a drug dealer he's right #HeyTawd 6. Luke serves cheap ordinary supermarket coffee (oh wait, that one is actually TRUE, Mr. Folgers can. I've seen you). 5. There's a vortex/black hole in California sucking in the unsuspecting men of Stars Hollow (Dave Rygalski. Jess. Max. Even Christopher, apparently ) called the Male Gilmore Girls Character California Wormhole, it swallowed Dave Rygalksi permanently because It loved him so much, but it spit everyone else back out eventually 4. Jess erased Shane after the Dance Marathon and threw her body in the lake and the swan that beaked him was a reincarnation of Shane out for revenge 3. Jess' novels become unexpected worldwide best sellers, turned into movies, turned him into a household name, earned him legions of fans and book groupies, making him a millionaire, causing our reluctant and modest blorbo to face the pressures of fame, press, wealth and attention 2. During the Truncheon years and beyond Jess Mariano blossoms sexually and becomes a raging manwhore the likes of which Philadelphia has never seen, he has a Myspace page and a very busy flip phone and two roommates who never get any sleep 1. Lorelai and Dean are having a torrid love affair, and I call it The Dala (The Dean and Lorelai Affair) I will die on this hill, this is my Death Hill.
