Man I fucking hate the Jack hate that accompanies album releases now. Calling him mid and a bad producer is just wrong when you look at his body of work and the variety he brings. The artists decide their sound and Taylor is someone I can see being quite headstrong and particular with how she wants something to come through. Are they stunted together? Maybe/likely but to call Jack untalented is just stupid
I knoooow like you can say the music he does with taylor isn't your favourite or that you'd like her to also work with new collaborators but every album fans act like jack is forcing taylor into a recording booth and saying "this song WILL sound exactly how I want". I'm sure she could experiment more but ultimately the reason she's working with him is because he is very good at helping to make the type of pop music she likes to create 🤷‍♀️

my swifties senses are picking on hoax
hoax is one of those songs that's so layered and contains so many potential interpretations I feel like we're still gonna be noticing parallels in new or existing songs like five years from now

The only thing that I don’t like is that come Friday we’re going to see all the ugliness that comes with a taylor swift album release… and that’s the bullying (more) that joe is about to get. Swifties are ready with their pitchforks. I’m dreading it.
yeah I've never felt less excited for a taylor release which sucks :/ I have very much descaled on how many taylor blogs I follow over the past year which does help a lot because I feel I'm mostly following people with a more similar attitude to me, but when the gossip and unwarranted hate is so pervasive it feels impossible to avoid and it's put a dampener on the whole experience for me so far. I'm sure I'll love the album and I'm hoping that it will be easier to be excited once I've actually got songs to focus on over just the speculation/anticipation (which is partly why I would've loved a lead single!), but if necessary I might end up blacklisting the taylor tag and keeping to myself and my inbox for a bit.

I mean, look at how many times Taylor has explicitly told/asked fans to stop speculating, to stop looking at her life with a magnifying glass, to stop bullying the people she allegedly wrote songs about, to take her lyrics and apply them to their own experiences instead of fixating on which one of her experiences they came from. Have they? Some, but most don't care. They call themselves her fans but don't respect her wishes or her privacy. Is some of it on her for allowing/encouraging it in the beginning of her career? I guess, but this new beast? It's the fans. People just need to chill.
For sure, I think she has certainly enabled it at times (and still does, like using a fan theory to create playlists of her old songs which was only ever going to amplify the breakup analysis frenzy) but ultimately the fans and the media have truly worked hand in hand to create this atmosphere of like hyper-speculation, constant analysis and making every song about a partner or ex and at this point it's pretty much unstoppable, especially with her general level of fame and exposure right now that means everything about her has never been talked about more.

At this point, I think Taylor is sort of like the MCU in the last phase of the Infinity Saga. Yes, technically, you can understand what's going on without having watched 10+ movies/paid attention to all the stuff in her previous albums and life but you are actively encouraged to look for context to every action. The extremely public nature of her new relationship makes me think she's embracing her status as a character in so many people's narratives of her.
I was literally just thinking the exact same thing hahaha the taylor lore is all so self-referential and it gives such mcu vibes. hopefully it just won't get to the stage with her music (like with some of those movies) where they only really hold up as part of a saga and lose their value as a work in their own right.
there definitely is that sense of her as the main character of the taylor swift universe at this point and I actually think that's not necessarily a bad thing in itself (after all, every time she makes an appearance or releases an album it is to some extent part of the Taylor Swift™️ persona that is chosen to be presented to the public and acknowledging that we don't fully know her or her life can be a good thing), it only gets problematic when fans get so into both witnessing and co-creating this narrative of her life that they forget the other people involved are still just real people and not characters who exist to play the roles of Love Interest or Villain in taylor's story.

Imo taylor is in a trap of her own design. She encouraged fans to dig into her personal relationships at the very beginning, when she put real names in her songs and wove them into lyric booklets as Easter eggs.
I think she realized this was a mistake around the red/1989 days, but the beast was unstoppable by then. You can't really undo that mistake after you have the whole world caught up in a frenzy of easter egging...
She has a choice: accept that she will never be able to write normal diaristic songs without her personal life being picked apart by millions of fans (fucked up as that is.) With acceptance of that reality, she can set up guardrails like she did on folklore and evermore, layers of obscurity/fiction that allow her to express herself without too much hyperanalysis from the public about her most intimate life details. She can also make efforts to preserve her privacy.
Or, she can do what she's doing now: decide privacy is a cage. Release more diaristic lyrics which fans WILL cross reference with all her public appearances and pap photos. I feel bad that her artistic output is limited in this way. At the same time, I don't pity her too much when she continually chooses to air her most intimate feelings, knowing exactly what fans will do with that.
That is the reality of someone with her level of fame. It doesn't surprise me that many fans think you need to analyze her personal life to enjoy her music. That isn't true; but the vast majority of her artistic output for near 20 years has been diaristic confession, with a healthy sprinkling of intentional easter-eggs. She made her life into lore and it's very easy for new fans to get sucked into the vortex of obsessive analysis.
You know what I'm saying?
Yeah I'd be inclined to agree with all of this! It's clearly out of her control at this point how fans/the public will choose to approach her music (look at how she literally made a public disclaimer about how the point of speak now tv wasn't for people to go get angry at john mayer on her behalf and it made absolutely no difference) and I think you're right as to how at this point she's decided to essentially lean into it, the idea of privacy as a cage is a great way to describe it.
