Elucien Parallels: Eddard and Catelyn Stark's Arranged Marriage/Marriage of Convenience Trope
I'm back again with more ACOTAR and ASOIAF/GOT parallels. You can go read this post where I breakdown my thoughts on comparing Elain Archeron and Sansa Stark as representing similar character archetypes in fantasy.
Today I want to talk about one of my favorite ASOIAF/GOT ships - Ned and Cat. What I want to do with this post is sort of breakdown the dynamics of their relationship and story arc and apply it to some common criticisms of Elucien and why in order to get the kind of tension Elucien have in canon, you need to have an understanding of how this particular trope works and the way these types of characters inhabit it.
So, a quick rundown on Ned and Cat and their relationship, just to get anyone reading this up to speed. Catelyn Tully was betrothed to Brandon Stark, Ned's older brother. Their betrothal represented a political alliance between the Starks of Winterfell and the Tullys of Riverrun - the liege lords of their respective regions. Despite being betrothed for political reasons, Catelyn fell deeply in love with Brandon anyways. And when he was tragically murdered by the Mad King, alongside his father, she was heart broken. Enters Ned, now the Lord of Winterfell, who has to secure this political alliance because he is about to wage a rebellion alongside his friend Robert Baratheon against the Targaryens. It makes perfect sense for him to marry his brother's betrothed. Ned and Cat get married quickly and off to war he went. When he returned a year later, he brought home his bastard, Jon Snow. He and Cat now have to figure out their marriage on top of not only being effectively strangers, but also with this betrayal looming over their relationship. When we enter the story of Game of Thrones, they have 5 children, the oldest Robb who was conceived just before Ned left for war, is 16. Cat and Ned are very much in love, showing open affection and devotion to each other. Cat is quoted later in the series telling her son Robb (show canon):
"Love didn't just happen to us. We built it slowly over the years, stone by stone, for you, for your brothers and sisters, for all of us. It's not as exciting as secret passion in the woods, but it is stronger."
Okay, so where does Elucien come into all of this and why should you care if you ship them?
Well, I think Cat and Ned's story illustrates a lot of things and disproves many doubts that are thrown at Elucien being endgame.
Betrayal
First is this issue of betrayal - that Lucien's involvement with Tamlin and his inevitable association with the situation in Hybern (though he did not know the extent of the deal with Hybern nor at all that Feyre's sisters had been kidnapped) will be such a huge breach of trust that Elain will never be able to get over it. That the relationship is dead before it even started.
Ned and Cat are a perfect example of how many anti-Eluciens are wrong when they think that Elucien are essentially dead before they start. By bringing home Jon Snow and raising him in his home amongst his trueborn children, Ned inflicted a huge betrayal onto his wife before they ever truly started their relationship. Although, at least in show canon, we know this ends up being quite a noble lie by Ned, this is never something that he reveals to Cat. So, Cat must swallow her pride and her jealousy and continue to be Ned's wife. This does not mean she has to fall in love with him, as it is not expected of her to, but she does all the same. Why? Because of Ned's inherent goodness and devotion to her. Cat sees that Ned is a good, honorable man - which is why she ultimately believes the rumors that Jon must be Ashara Dayne's son and that he is a love-child that Ned cannot bear to abandon. Because as she comes to know Ned, she sees his heart and his moral standing.
Which is all to say, that regardless of whether Elain begins her journey angry and blaming Lucien for association with her being Made and the end of her engagement, by getting to know him and spending time with him, she too will be able to see Lucien's inherent goodness. It is unavoidable and undeniable. Lucien, much like Ned, is honorable, loyal, and stands up to the face of evil, even if it will stupidly get him killed. He takes ownership over the people in the lands he runs and cares for that responsibility and their well being deeply. He commits violence when he must but he does not enjoy it. These are all traits that suited Cat well and why she ended up having such a loving marriage to Ned through many, many years. And likewise, suit Elain well and why she and Lucien will have a healthy and loving mating bond.
Reluctant Tension
Many anti-Eluciens do not understand the romantic tension presented in their situation. They see their distance, polite exchanges, and reactions as a sign of indifference or discomfort. It is a far cry from the explosive anger and deliberate pushing away that Nesta displayed with Cassian. Sometimes it's easier to understand Nessian's romantic tension because passion can exist both in anger and desire. But what about the stilted interactions of Elucien?
This is also where I will draw parallels to Ned and Cat. Ned and Cat did not go to the alter kicking and screaming. They were not political rivals or enemies. Catelyn did her duty with her head held high, living her house words (Family, Duty, Honor). Catelyn is often described as the picture of a noble lady - well-mannered, kind, diligent, dutiful, and respected. She held a high place of honor at Riverrun, effectively serving as Lady of the house after her mother's passing at a young age, and then taking over the role of Lady of Winterfell. She earned loyalty and respect amongst her subjects. We don't know much about the dynamic of Ned and Cat at the early days of their relationship. But what we can infer based on how Cat describes this time period, is that Cat hid her reluctance and anger behind silent pride. It was over time, as she grew to know Ned that this distrust and distance was thawed and she fell in love with him.
Similarly, Ned is not a hot head. He is grounded and stone-faced, a trait that Cat actually did not like initially because it was so different from his brother who she was in passionate love with. Brandon was a hot-head, charming, and funny. He was a showboat and is basically how he came to duel Petyr Baelish in the first place. But Catelyn eventually realizes the wisdom in loving a man like Ned, rather than the girlish love she had for Brandon.
Now Elain and Lucien are not mirror images of this. Lucien is certainly much more savvy and charming than Ned. And Elain is not forced into a romantic relationship with Lucien at all even with the mating bond. She has been given total freedom to choose, unlike Cat. But, my point here is that the presentation of their romantic tension, which is more quiet and understated and can confuse some readers who have a preference for the more passionate displays of tension, is very similar to Ned and Cat in the beginning of their relationship.
Now, as we learn both in the books and the show, Cat and Ned at the start of the series are well into their 16+ year marriage and are quite passionate now. They have many loving physical displays with one another, often passionately kissing or referencing passionate lovemaking they just had. They speak to each other with such warm affection others have to look away. It is clear they have deep love for each other that goes beyond duty. The passion certainly developed between them along the way. With Elucien I'm sure this will play out much differently given the presentation of the mating bond and how we know it affects people. It's very likely both of them are deeply desiring each other already, and very likely that they will have some dramatic rows between them, as it is likely Ned and Cat had as well, once they start really talking about the hard topics. But the point is that passion and the potential for passion does not have to be readily observable right from the start. If anything, there is something very delicious in the steady build-up to it through many of the tropes we see in historical romances where there are rules and etiquette to courtship (which many suspect Elucien will play with some regency era tropes).
Conclusion:
I really love finding parallels between ships of my favorite series, and there is of course a lot to draw from when its two fantasy series. In the end, my bigger point is that great love can come from Arranged Marriage/Marriage of Convenience Tropes which Elucien inhabit with the nature of their bond snapping right when they met. It's not for everyone, but for those of us who get it... we really get it. Fortunately for us, Elucien exist in a romance with HEAs and not the world of ASOIAF/GOT so they won't meet the same tragic fates as Ned and Cat *sobs*.

never the same river
Fandom: A Song of Ice and Fire Pairing: Ned Stark x Catelyn Tully Stark Tropes: developing relationship, arranged marriage, fluff and spice, mutual pining, idiots in love, dirty talk Rating: T+ Words: 2k Summary: Ned learns Catelyn used to be fond of swimming. He has no idea what he's doing.
for @nedcatweek day 6 prompt: "I want you to feel at home" [AO3]
“It is beautiful here,” Catelyn said, looking around. Ned observed her as she dismounted and gave the reins away to one of their host, before they were left alone. The weather had reached this sweet spot on the cusp of high season, when it was warm, but not hot enough to become unbearable. Late though and tentative, summer had indeed come to the North. The ice floe on the river had long melted, the flowers were yet in bloom, but the trees had for some weeks now been clad in the most verdant foliage, making one forget that the Winter was, indeed, coming. (Because Winter was coming. Tomorrow, or in twenty years, it was always coming, Ned knew.)
The idea to come here had arisen in Ned’s mind during the cold months. He had to bear Catelyn’s nostalgic looks on Harvest Day, then her barely visible flinches and chills in response to the cold drafts in the castle during winter. Though she might hide it well, Catelyn did not feel at home.
“What are we to do now, my Lord?” Catelyn asked and looked at him. Would that he could find his words easily. Alas, he’d never been skillful in conveying his meaning. Why had he brought her here? What were they going to do now? He wasn’t sure himself.
He wanted her to feel more at home. The Sept that he’d commissioned for her two winters prior hadn’t been enough, if her wistful sighing and withering glances were anything to judge by. Ned blamed himself. If only he’d made her feel more welcome. He had tried to keep her company whenever he could, but he wasn’t sure if his quiet, brooding presence had been any help, or if it had only made things worse. (Because he’d been brooding, Gods help him. He knew he’d been.)
With the first vestiges of spring, Ser Brynden Tully had come to Winterfell, bearing greetings and letters from Lord Hoster. The Blackfish had stayed in their Castle a fortnight and spent most of those mornings observing little Robb at play, and most of the evenings trying to get Ned to drink with him. Ned had very good reasons to not over indulge (what with the secrets he carried), but he would indulge a little, on occasion. And so he had played the gracious host, indulged a little in the cups with his guest, and had used the opportunity to pry subtly about Catelyn’s life back in Riverrun. One of the memories shared by Brynden had struck him as a particularly happy one. It was that of young Catelyn and Lysa going swimming in the Red Fork River in the summer. So, Catelyn liked river swimming… This seemed to Ned an extravagant passtime, but what did he know? He was from the North; he did not understand southern customs, and therein lay the whole problem.
“I thought we could go swimming in the river,” he said simply.
“... Swimming, my Lord?” she asked. Had he announced he was going to re-paint the walls of Castle Black bright crimson, her eyes could not have gotten any rounder. Taking her swimming had been his plan, ridiculous though it might now seem. The swift currents of White Knife, sure to be carrying the chill of northern glaciers even now, did not seem particularly enticing, he had to admit.
He regarded his Lady. She looked beautiful when surprised. To be precise, she looked beautiful at all times and all moods, to Ned at least. He would admire her quietly when she would glide through Winterfell, swishing about in her gowns, which she took to tailoring according to Northern fashion, but which retained the elegance and lightness of the worldly South. She would brighten his dour abode with her mere presence, but here, among nature, with the warm sun glinting in her teal eyes and setting her hair aflame? Catelyn Tully took his breath away.
“Perhaps the hot springs near your castle would serve better for that purpose, my Lord?” Catelyn asked, when he prolonged his silence. Her surprise had turned into visible amusement. “You know you can call for me whenever you want for company in the pools…”
Ned felt his ears turn red at the memory of their last time at the hot springs. He had noticed the cold did not serve his Lady well, and proposed they visit the caverns in the Godswoods, where the temperature in the pools was particularly high, so that she could warm herself and forget about the snowstorms that had been plaguing Winterfell. Catelyn had accepted this offer, but, instead of an endeavor towards the betterment of her health, she thought it primarily an effort to introduce some variety to their marital duties. And so their hot spring experience quickly turned… steamy.
Not that their bedroom needed any more steam. Ned would visit Catelyn’s chambers regularly, although never without her prior invitation. And she would invite him often. Every other night, in fact, whenever she was not through her menses. Ned knew this was what Maester Luwin advised her in order to quicken again, as Catelyn was bent on giving him another son.
Thing was, Catelyn had already given him one perfect son. Whenever Ned even looked at little Robb, he could not help but wonder. He had never thought he would ever get to be this happy. Not after… After… More still, she had given him another child, a sweet little babe, a daughter. Sansa favored her mother, and that made her beautiful to Ned’s eyes. Still, his Lady wanted to bear him another son, and it didn’t seem likely she’d give up before achieving that goal.
He could not help but feel guilty. Was it because of Jon? Was it that because Jon existed, she felt like one legitimate son wasn’t enough? Oh, he did feel guilty, after Jon, unworthy of those constant invitations to her bedchamber of wonders. For all his guilt, he’d never suggested that one heir was enough, though. He wondered if he maybe should, for her peace of mind, but then their nighttime activities would likely cease, and he just couldn't give her up. Wretched as he was, he came to rely completely on the reprieve that her touch offered. He would not show it, but most days he lusted after her, he awaited her signal impatiently like a man starved. It took a lot of effort on his part to not lose himself utterly with her, to not bite her soft, creamy skin, to not yank her lush red hair, not to take her a little too eagerly. She seemed so delicate, so refined. Ladylike.
He had earned the nickname the Quiet Wolf, because in his boyhood he’d been perceived as calm, in contrast to Brandon. Ah, Brandon… How his brother would now mock him, if he could see him so… lovesick. Ned had always been the sensible one. The reserved one. But not with Catelyn, he wasn’t. Not after having tasted her. Sometimes he thought one look of her eyes alone could make the wolfblood in him awaken. The wolfblood that he had used to doubt he had a drop of, but that he could now feel cursing through his veins whenever she lay under him. He restrained himself, fearful of offending her and losing her good graces, losing the privilege of sharing her bed, that he had nearly forfeited when he had brought Jon in. So he tried to remain calm during their couplings. Calm, gentle. Attentive to her whims and needs. He made sure she had her pleasure too, because Gods knew he had his aplenty with her.
“What is the true purpose of this outing, my Lord?” Catelyn asked, snapping him out of his musings. She was getting impatient, Ned knew. No wonder - they had spent the entire morning on horseback to get here, on his urging, and he’d kept her in the dark as to their destination. “Why have you brought me here?”
Ned sighed.
“Ser Brynden has told me you were fond of the river as a child,” he said. He could not bear to look her in the eye, so he instead looked at the murmuring crystalline waters. “I wanted you to feel more at home…”
Catelyn’s expression darkened visibly, at that. This was, apparently, the wrong thing to say, though for the love of the Old Gods, Ned could not figure out why.
“You do not get it, do you?” she grumbled, and he could tell she was bitter. He said nothing, as was his way, and let her speak. “I’ve lived here for four summers already! Winterfell is my home! Would that you saw it. Would that my welcome here was warmer.”
“What do you mean?” Ned was alarmed by her outburst. “Have I not seen to your comforts, my Lady? Has anyone in the Castle mistreated you?” Whoever had wronged her, Ned would not let them get away with it.
Catelyn sighed and shook her head, dejected.
“The truth is, I do find the North so very… cold,” she said quietly. “And not for all the snow and winter winds… I know I am unlike the women around here. Not as… hardy. The glances I sometimes get... I am a foreigner in everyone’s eyes. And, worse still, in your eyes…” She looked so sad that Ned’s very heart clenched painfully. “Sometimes I feel like I shall never belong.”
“No,” Ned rushed to appease her. He took her hand in his, hoping she’d turn around, hoping she’d look at him. “Of course your place is here! You are my Lady. My wife!”
“That I am…” She uttered a mirthless chuckle. “And you are ever so dutiful a husband. So stern, so focused, when you come to my chambers.”
“Have I been amiss with my attentions towards you?” Her comment, offhand as it was, stung deeply. He prided himself on doing his very best whenever they lay together.
“I do not deny that you are.. attentive,” she whispered. “Yet I always wonder if you even want to be there. With me.” The vulnerability in her voice rendered him near speechless. He hated himself for making her feel this way, for letting it come to this.
“Wherever else would I be?” he asked, genuinely bewildered by the very concept.
“You tell me,” said Catelyn and finally regaled him with a look. Though her words were quiet and her face ablush, thunder and lightning danced in her eyes.
Ned was frustrated. He was well aware of his many social shortcomings, and of how much Jon’s presence had soured things between them, but he had been trying his very best to be a good husband to her. He’d made many attempts at conveying how much she meant to him, but all of his efforts had failed, it seemed. He felt his temper rise, for the first time perhaps where she was involved.
“Then what would you have me do, my Lady?” he asked, not trying overly hard to smooth his speech this time. “Would you want me to grab you by your beautiful, downright sinful hair and take you roughly against the wall? Would that convince you of my commitment?”
This was, shockingly, somehow the right thing to say. Catelyn’s entire face brightened momentarily and it made something in Ned’s stomach stir in anticipation.
“You would want me like that?” she asked, breathless. Contrary to Ned’s every prediction, she did not look appalled nor frightened by the idea of them coupling roughly.
“I have… thought about it,” he admitted carefully. Her expression softened further, so he allowed himself to reveal even more. “In truth, I have been thinking of little else for many months now…”
“And you like my hair?” she asked.
Ned did like her hair, Gods help him, and he liked how her voice vibrated with excitement. He’d suddenly got many more ideas on how to make his wife feel more at home…
This is my contribution to NedCat Week 2024. Thrilled to be part of it and in awe of all the awesome writers making it happen <3

i know you didn't answer the previous ask talking about fanfic in particular but sansa shipping fic is a sight to behold due to how much options it offers and given how fanfic is an expression of shipping, i NEED to share my two cents of how vastly different sansa fanfic can be.
depending on her love interest, it tells vastly different stories.
LF? (hopefully) a dark, twisted romance, probably kinky with daddy issues. (hopefully) features dark!sansa.
the hound? probably very soft, beauty & the beast style, a lady & her knight type of story.
tyrells? pure romantic fluff, sansa as a great lady, some good rep, either sapphic or with willas' disability. usually it's an arranged marriage but sansa doesn't start the story outright hating highgarden (usually considering it a refuge after escaping KL). instead, her romantic dreams of knights and summer come true and her new family takes her in with loving arms.
oberyn? also a lot of fluff but make it poly and lots of good food and fun. / doran's kids: less poly but with the same love put into the worldbuilding of dorne.
lannisters? really brings out sansa as a political player. if it's tywin, it's probably kinky (and by kinky, i mean possession and breeding) and cersei dies. if it's jamie, it's not that kinky but cersei still dies. it's always an arranged marriage sansa is forced into but eventually she falls for the lannister in question and fixes his issues (and his family) while leaning into her political side and ousting cersei from her position at court. really, you need a fic where cersei dies? sansa x lannister.
theon is in a prime shipping position after they escaped winterfell together on the show (and that hug. i don't even like theon and i loved that hug in s8. sansa got all the best hugs on the show) and jeyne fills all the childhood friends to lovers tropes plus some sapphic rep. no arranged marriages here, just people finding each other again after years of separation and suffering.
jon is kind of all of the above, depending on interpretation and what kind of vibes are wanted with the advantage of being stark-based and lots and lots of ghost being a good boy who sticks to sansa's shadow. she at least ends up as the ruling lady of winterfell in a prospering north. rickon lives, arya comes and goes as she pleases, brienne is in her queen's guard.
all of these don't even consider the potential of au's that deviate from the books more than a butterfly effect and a few (or many) slightly (or heavily, looking at you tywin) adjusted characters. (btw, in modern au's sansa also offers the potential trope of TWO crazy ex-boyfriends who abused her to some extent and who can cause further conflict.)
depending on what kind of tropes you love, there's a sansa ship for you out there because there's just so much possibility in her character and depending on where you diverge from her story (and which house you favour, tbh), all of them are kind of possible if you squint and that's where she's very different from characters whose paths are already set in stone. unless we go into au's that deviate before the books start, jon is always going to be at the wall. dany is always going to start out in essos and doesn't interact with other romantic leads until she's the conqueror (or saviour). robb is always going to be the heir of winterfell and has to return to winterfell even if he survives. sansa meanwhile crosses paths with most of the major factions during her time in KL and is in search for a home & family and can embody both the daughter that's going to leave her father's home and make a home elsewhere AND the eldest surviving child that can find her home AT home with whomever she chooses (sometimes reconquering wf for rickon with the help of her adopted family)
having her face so many suitors obviously puts the idea in the reader's head that sansa is worth pursuing and that there are possibilities to deviate from the story (which makes a lot of these matches possible, the easy in with the lannisters and the tyrells is always an arranged marriage (oberyn shipping kind of involves a lot more voluntarily getting kidnapped before the match is made)) but the potential each match brings is really up to the writer.
as someone who tries not to judge what other people like in fanfic, i have to admit that sansa is a gift that keeps on giving.
(and if you want to know how i know, it's because i'm the embodiment of the guy that finds a "dead dove don't eat" bag in the fridge and opens it anyway. i'm just really happy i haven't seen any sansa x qyburn yet.)
(About this ask)
That was a really fun read! It’s a great point about Sansa’s story in particular placing her in vicinity of many of these important characters in a way others don’t (like Jon or Dany), so I can def see why, when looking to write a romance with a certain character, she’s the go to heroine of the story.
I also think a big factor is that Sansa is someone a lot of girls can identify with and you can manifest her personality, interests, struggles into different scenarios pretty easily, so generally, I understand why of all the characters in ASOIAF, if someone wants to write a romance, it would center on her.
If you have stumbled across some hidden gems feel free to send me fic recs!

Sacrifice
(Unwilling or Willing)
Power of a Sacrifice
Vessel
Servitude
Memory
Freedom
Experiments
Human Sacrifice
Royal Food Tasters
Surrender to Enemies
Shield from Attack
Bend the Knee
Arranged Marriage
Take Me Instead/Switch Places
Hand over Yourself to the Enemy
Offering Another in Your Stead
Raised as a Sacrifice.
Sacrificial Revival Spell
Crippled/Lose an Ability.
Childbirth (or at least having children regardless of the risks)
Survival through Self-Sacrifice
Suicidal Mission/Dangerous Task
Appearance (a Shapeshifter stuck in a form?).
Lose a limb (Tongue? Eyes? Its self multilation? Punishment?).
Reputation/Honor (like Jaime Lannister and Ned Stark or save your friends instead of the mission). What reputation you got? Coward? Traitor? Oathbreaker? Cheater?
Sacrifice of parents to raise and provide for their children.
Sacrificing a stranger or someone lesser instead of a loved one or someone more 'important'.
Do a necessary evil and accept the punishment.
You gave to sacrifice for another person's mistakes or because they refuse to do so (looking at you Robb Stark).
Do a action knowing of its consequences (killing a important person to save a loved one and getting exiled for it like Ursa, Cinna with the Mockingjay fire dress in HG).
A person got infected/possessed/corrupted/turning into a monster or whatever and the others kill her/him instead of looking for a solution because of the risks.
Scapegoat (you were discovered and the others involved abandoned you? Failure? Blamed for something out of control? Misblamed? Promoted to Scapegoat? By association with a person they can't blame?)
Take the fault/blame or/and the punishment for a loved one.
Stand Up for a person in a dangerous position/situation (like being accused or hunted for treason) or hidding them in your house.

Powers with an Price (Ex: like breaking a magical oath and losing their vision). Or maybe its the sacrifices made for gain a type of power (political, monetary, magical...)
Or taking a position or something like that (like Mulan for her father, Belle for her father or Katniss to her sister).
Assume a Supernatural Position (Yue, Nabu Helmet, Soul King, Kyubey)
Impersonification
Genuine Impersonificator
Switched Lives/Roles
Fake Aristocrat
A Fraud
Switched at Birth
Impersonating the Evil Twin
Sweet Polly Oliver Trope with male relatives.
A Missing Person comes back (or did they?)
The Mole killed someone and assumed their place. What accomplishments and doings were made by the Real One? (Like an fight or rescue). At what point it was your friend with you? Maybe nobody even meet the Real One.
Twin (the original and/or his friends know about the twin existence or not) or a Clone. Its a Backup in case the original died? Man in Iron Mask situation? Something like Ford and Stan?
An mysterious person who is implied to be the secret identity of an character is revealed to be an twin. (the two or one of them knowing or not)
Unware/Unwilling Pawn. Can be an Changeling in this case, or an clone (or unknow twin? Like the mexican telenovela Cómplices Al Rescate?)
A substitute or replacement (possibly for a dead or even missing person).
Fake Reveal: Impersonification of a dead character that pretends to have survived
An Villain kills the Hero and takes his place. Everyone belives that the Hero defeated him.
Legendary/Popular Figure (maybe the impersonificator is the one who actually saved the day?)
Legacy Immortality
The Imposter is actually the Real One and vice-versa (like Red in 'Us'?).
The Real One died and they don't want nobody to know. The death of this character would cause problems. Maybe a Hero or Ruler? El Cid Ploy? The imposter killed them by accident? Maybe they were Really Evil but needed because of popularity?
One of the friends went missing/captured for a time and the impostor came back.
The Hero kills the Evil King and takes his place to rule the Kingdom for best.
A test is made to decide which one is real, the Fake One wins.
A being is revealed to be just a copy.
Something being done in another person's name. A order? A message? A conflict? A peace treaty?
An Decoy so the Real one will be safe or another place at time, the original in question can pretend to be one of the guards. May involve the death of the fake one.
Whats is the Fake One for? Marriage? Sacrifice? Hostage? Fight? Essencial part of the Plan?
Also, their origin: a cousin? Bastard? Something like Hyuuga Hizashi? Maybe pretending to be someone that don't exist like Mulan (Ping son of Fa Zhou) or go in their place (they run away and someone needed to go or under the threat or punishment?)
Cases like Jeyne Poole and Aegon/Young Griff, or even the farm boys Theon killed. Pretend to be an long lost heir or something, they can be an hostage, for marriage, for a fight, as corpse as a proof of their deaths.
Maybe you had good intentions, like avenging the deceased Real One.
Assume being a Secret Identity of a unknow character (maybe you want the credit? Like...the Mysterious Person who saved the Hero?)
The villain forces his doppelganger to take their place (kinda like Paola Bracho)
My Sibling/Friend Will Live Through Me (you assume their life or just use their face in honor of your fallen friend?)
Another person reveals begin the hidden identity of a character the to take off the suspect over the real one's identity, who is hidding (perhaps under a fake identity? I Am Spartacus Trope?)
What did the impersonificator did? Got the original in trouble? Betrayed the Hero Team? Infiltrating? Started an war (if the original is an leader?).
A normal person disguise? A enemy guard? An ambassador? Can invent a relation with a real person.
The imposter is a shapeshifter? Possessing a dead body? They are just older (the original was not seen in years)? The real one is killed? Missing? Captured? The imposter can actually have the real one's consent for impersonification.

Submissions get eaten, I think… I’ll send again, if that’s ok.
Hi! 24+F here. Suuuuper long shot, but maybe someone will like the ideas. I am looking for a Game of Thrones RP partner. I do have a very specific pairing in mind though, and some AU’s for it.
Jaime/Robb, canon divergence, looking for your Jaime against my Robb. King and his Knight dynamics. Enemies to friends and then to lovers, you know the drill. Working together, seeing that both sides were wrong about each other, growing respect, care and affection.
I can also offer a modern fantasy AU setting where Robb is a werewolf and Jaime does not know about it. I would love to see the slow trust being build between them, Starks and Lannisters families in the modern setting, arranged marriage for Robb, Scottish highlands and urban London. Dreams of past lives, waking up from the nightmares with the phantom feeling of a dagger in the heart or a missing hand. Finally Robb would reveal to Jaime his secret and then we’ll see how it goes. Maybe Jaime will want to become a werewolf as well, and it all plays out like in the “Wolfwalkers”.
Alternatively I am absolutely craving to play out an AU that includes the trope “Impossible tasks”. Medieval fantasy setting, where Robb is a Fey King and Jaime is a mortal who stumbles upon him. Robb slowly falls in love with a stubborn human, but the tasks need to be completed, so he is still sending Jaime to do them. The final one is almost taking Jaime’s life. And let’s just see how it plays out next.
About myself:
My replies are usually quick, I love to write and I won’t make you wait long, so I would hope for the same from my partner. Sure, real life happens, not a problem, just please let me know. Thank you.
I will gladly match the length you prefer in your games. You like novella? Easy! 200-300 words? Absolutely. A quickie with mostly dialogues and short actions in messengers? You got it. Super flexible.
Chemistry is not a given. If it happens - that’s amazing, if it does not - we can let each other know. Just please don’t ghost, we all know the feeling. Thank you <3
I am UTC time zone.
Please be 21+, smut is involved.
I am chatty, I like to swoon together, exchange headcanons, gifs, memes, capslock intensifies. I can write you some ficlets, would love to do pictures based on the RP, and I am open to ideas and your headcanons, if any. Those two are very underrated and I am in desperate need to talk about them and to hopefully share with you some of my love for this pairing.
I would need from you a general interest in the settings and this couple, care to the characters, be comfortable with switching, have free time to play and be open with communication.
Interact with this post and I will reach out :)

@jonsa-week : Day 2 : Tropes
Arranged Marriage (canon divergent)
Three weeks after her sixteenth nameday, Sansa’s parents travel to King’s Landing. The intent of this trip is to visit her father’s sister, Lyanna.
Lyanna has lived in King’s Landing since before Sansa was born. She’s never heard the entire story, but from what Sansa can gather, it was an ordeal. Sansa’s uncle and grandfather were killed. So was Lyanna’s husband. He was defeated in battle by Robert Baratheon, her father’s good friend. Lyanna lives in King’s Landing because she believes it is what is best for her son, Jon. Sansa has not met either of them.
So, it comes as a complete shock when her mother shares that Sansa is to marry Jon.
Arranged marriages are common in Westeros, but it isn’t at all what Sansa would choose. She dreams of marrying someone who truly loves her. Instead, she is marrying Jon to mend relations between the north and south. It makes her feel used and cast away. She has very little say in the matter, and this upsets her the most.
She thought her parents would care more about what she wants. They do not, as far as she is concerned. Jon is the king’s beloved half brother, and this is what will make them all happy. It doesn’t matter if she is happy. Even her brother Robb believes she should consider herself lucky to not have been promised to someone before this. Only Arya shares her outrage.
Sansa makes a promise to herself then and there. If she ever has a daughter, her daughter will be allowed to make her own choices. Within reason, of course.
She does not speak to her parents for nearly a month, but this does not stop Lyanna and Jon from visiting. Mother and son ride in on horseback, and are met by the Winterfell Starks at the East Gate.
All of the stories Sansa heard throughout her lifetime were true. Lyanna is quite beautiful, an older version of Arya. She steps down from her horse with an elegant ease, and hugs Sansa’s father.
Jon inherited much of his mother’s looks, with his dark curls and gentle smile. She might even think him handsome, under different circumstances. Sansa did not bother to ask much about him before his arrival, but he seems to be of an age with Robb. A bit smaller, but just as strong. A boy who works in the stables takes care of their horses, and Jon shakes her father’s hand before other introductions are made. Sansa remembers her courtesies, and does not embarrass her parents.
Jon is quiet, but polite. As is expected, she sits beside him at the feast that evening. He makes conversation with Sansa and her siblings, and she actually begins to enjoy herself.
Jon stands when she does, and he offers Sansa his arm. Perhaps her mother is right, and he will make a fine husband.
“Could you show me the godswood?” He requests while they walk the grounds. “My mother speaks so fondly of it. There’s one in the Red Keep, but it feels all wrong. Like a plant that didn’t take to being repotted.”
“You keep the old gods?”
“Along with the new.” He nods, allowing her to guide his steps. “I gravitate towards the old gods, I will admit to you.”
Yes, they will keep each other’s secrets, as husbands and wives do. They sit by the lake within the wood, like she has seen her parents do many times.
Jon observes the godswood with contemplative reverence. She does enjoy his company, but there seems to be much more on his mind than he wishes to say.
“I do think I will like it here.” He surprises Sansa with his words. Does he mean while he is visiting, or something else?
“Do you plan for us to live in King’s Landing?”
“We can certainly discuss it, and decide together.”
“You would miss your family.”
“As would you.” He argues, calmly. “My mother wanted me to grow up with my brother and sister, and I am grateful, but they have their own families now. I’ve always felt more of a connection to this part of me. I’m looking forward to exploring it.”
“I was prepared to move.”
“Do you want to?”
“It would be exciting to experience elsewhere.”
“You’re not going to find anywhere as beautiful as it is here.” Jon tells her. “People think it dreary, but trust me, dreary is a hazy day in King’s Landing when the air is so thick you can barely breathe. Up here it is easier to breathe.”
“I will take your word for it.” Sansa places her hand on top of his.
“We can travel if you’d wish.” Jon smiles, gazing over at her with those soft, kind eyes.
“That would be wonderful.”
“I know this isn’t what either of us planned.” Jon shares. “I thought I would serve in my brother’s King’s Guard, but that isn’t the life my family wants for me.”
“What do you want?”
“I want us to be happy.” Jon answers. “I’m willing to do everything in my power to make that a reality. We’ll have a great life, Sansa. I promise.”
“I do not doubt it.” Sansa clasps her hands behind her back. She desperately wants to believe him, but actions speak louder than words. He will have to show her he means to keep this promise. “It will take some time, and I want to believe you are a man of your word, but forgive me for needing proof.”
“I will prove it to you.”
They agree that there is no need to rush into marriage. They take their time getting to know each other. They travel to Riverrun, and to King’s Landing. They are very fond of each other by the time they are married a year and a half later.

Why can't I hold all these cool stories?
CURRENT CRAVINGS: Please see this GDoc, because I have some plots I’d like to try! I’m primarily interested in original plots and characters; setting them in original worlds or fandom worlds is fine. I am not interested in playing canons other than as side characters/world filler as of right now.
DISCORD: KYLO REN AT CHILI’S#8808
  PERSONAL PREFERENCES
I’m over eighteen, and would prefer my partners are, too. This doesn’t mean I’m interested in NSFW-heavy plots; I do not write smut. It just means I’m more comfortable writing and interacting with other adults.
I consider myself to be lit-adv. I tend to enjoy partners in the lit+ category, but as long as you’re an enthusiastic and engaging partner, I don’t care about perfect grammar. I would rather write with someone just as involved and excited as I am, than I would with someone who isn't very engaging but knows exactly what to do with obscure punctuation.
I’m not interested in playing only one type of character or playing against only one type of character. I typically don’t enjoy writing with people who are only interested in playing one type of relationship dynamic or one kind of character (such as only m/f, playing the female, or m/m, playing the “bottom”). I have no problem with these dynamics or characters at all, nor do I have an issue playing against them. I just prefer more variety, compromise, and opportunity.
OOC chatter is really important to me. I can’t write with someone that I don’t feel like I can get to know. I’m looking for friends, not a faceless reply robot. I won’t communicate over any medium but Discord. I've tried Kik, Hangouts, etc.; they just don't stick for me. If you would prefer first contact be through email, you can shoot me a quick message and your handle to [email protected].
I’m fine with threading in a GDoc or a server, but I will not thread over DMs. It’s difficult to have OOC chatter and the thread over the top of each other.
If you're looking for a partner that writes a reply a day without fail, that's not me. I prefer that we don't have "posting schedules” or set posting times, because I find that it turns writing into a chore. It's great if you reply immediately, and it's totally okay if you need a week to figure something out! You’re absolutely free to poke me. I’m not always the most mindful. However, I’m not going to reply every day. Three to four times a week is my frequency.
  PLOT PREFERENCES
I’m interested in both fandom and original settings, and I’m down for playing both canon characters and OCs. I don’t necessarily prefer one or the other.
I definitely prefer canon doubling from my partners in fandom plots; I mesh better with people who do a little give-and-take when it comes to that. If you only play one canon character or only play OCs against canons and won’t play canons, I don’t think we’ll work.
I can play as many characters as needed, whether it's just one or it's six. Whatever our story calls for, I can manage that. In fact, I would love to play multiple “main” pairings so we can both get what we want, versus a single main pairing (unless it’s a pairing/dynamic we both like equally well). I find more than one facet to a plot really interesting, and multiple characters helps flesh out a story’s dimensions.
I’m absolutely interested in joining groups, so please don’t be shy about asking me to participate in plots with more than two players. So long as they don’t involve me writing sexual NSFW, we’re Gucci; everyone else writing NSFW isn’t a deal breaker for me.
Multiple threads and plots at the same time are no issue for me. In fact, I love the idea that we click so well that we just can't stop coming up with good ideas! So definitely don't be afraid to pitch something new to me, whether it's because you want to switch gears (and drop a thread for another), or want to do everything at once.
Romance is a must for me! I prefer slow and agonizing journeys to get there, but my attention is best held by romantic chemistry between characters.
I can provide writing samples upon request, though I never require them from my partner. Additionally, I have some plots written out if you're interested in that sort of thing. Otherwise, we can brainstorm together!
  FANDOMS
I’m very much a fandom player. I’m always down for AUs, or inserting our own characters into the plots of fandoms! This is in no way a complete list; never be afraid to ask if I’m into something! I’ve probably forgotten a hundred things I love.
Most of my fandoms will have favorite canon characters listed with them, both who I like playing and playing against; you’re always welcome to ask about others not listed.* There’s a good chance I’m pretty good with them!
*I will play OCs in every fandom, but I might not play canons in every fandom.
  ALWAYS
The Bartimaeus Trilogy (Nathaniel, Kitty Jones, and Bartimaeus), DC (any Titan, Jinx, Arthur Curry, Steve Trevor, Circe, and Diana Prince), Elder Scrolls (player canons and/or OCs preferred, but feel free to ask about canons), Fallout: New Vegas and 4 (Arcade Gannon, Paladin Danse, R.J. MacCready, Arthur Maxson, Veronica Santangelo, Cait, Rose of Sharon Cassidy, and player canons), Game of Thrones (Sansa Stark, Robb Stark, Jon Snow, Cersei Lannister, Jaime Lannister, Ramsay Bolton, and Willas Tyrell), His Dark Materials (OCs preferred), Hunger Games (OCs preferred), Inception (Arthur, and Eames, but OCs preferred), Marvel (Peter Parker, Scott Lang, Bucky Barnes, Miles Morales, Loki Laufeyson, Thor Odinson, Gwen Stacy, Jean Grey, Ororo Munroe, Kitty Pryde, and Megan Gwynn), Miraculous Ladybug (Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste), The Mortal Instruments (Simon Lewis, Raphael Santiago, and Alec Lightwood), Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Percy Jackson, Nico di Angelo, Annabeth Chase, Will Solace, Piper McLean, and Leo Valdez), Star Trek (Jim Kirk, Leonard McCoy, S'chn T'gai Spock, and Pavel Chekov), Star Wars (Obi Wan Kenobi, Jacen Solo, Jaina Solo, Jagged Fel, Mara Jade Skywalker, Rey Skywalker, Poe Dameron, Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, Sintas Vel, and Ahsoka Tano), The Walking Dead (Glenn Rhee, and Negan), Warriors (Firestar, Squirrelflight, Jayfeather, and Hawkfrost)
  SOMETIMES
Boku no Hero Academia (Bakugo Katsuki, Midoriya Izuku, Shinsou Hitoshi, Kaminari Denki, Kirishima Eijiro, Todoroki Shoto, and Uraraka Ochaco), Bungou Stray Dogs (OCs preferred, but feel free to ask about canons), Digimon (OCs preferred), Dragon Age (Fenris, Cullen Rutherford, Cassandra Pentaghast, and Dorian Pavus), Final Fantasy VII (Cloud Strife, Zack Fair, Reno, and Sephiroth), Harry Potter (Narcissa Malfoy, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, James Potter, Regulus Black, Draco Malfoy, Hermione Granger, and Luna Lovegood; play my favorite ship with me, and I'll do whatever you want, literally.), Mystic Messenger (Choi Saeyoung, Han Jumin, Kang Jaehee, and Choi Saeran), Naruto (Hatake Kakashi, Umino Iruka, Gaara, Hyuuga Hinata, and Uchiha Sasuke), Ouran High School Host Club (Ootori Kyouya, Hitachiin Hikaru, and Hitachiin Kaoru), Pokémon (Red, Blue, N, Guzma, and player canons)
NOT SURE, BUT WILLING TO EXPLORE
Avatar: the Last Airbender (particularly Zutara), Eragon, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiznaiver, The Legend of Zelda, Soul Eater, Steven Universe, Tokyo Ghoul, Twilight, Yuri!!! on Ice
  GENRES
For the most part, I’ll genuinely play most any genre! Of course, everyone says that, but then they shoot down all your suggestions because everyone has stuff they don’t like doing. I’ll try to make this as brief as I can, and know that if something isn’t listed, but you’re pretty sure (based on everything else) that I’m into it, then definitely let me know what you’re thinking!
SETTINGS
A/B/O (I will not play only alphas for only omegas, nor will I play overly trope-y, non-con, “boys love”/"yaoi" plots.), Age of Sail, alien worlds/alien invasions, celebrity, fairytales and mythology (including “inspired by” retellings), fantasy (including medieval, urban, and high fantasy), alt-historical and modern royalty, mutants/gifted, organized crime, science fiction (especially including aliens), some historical (excluding medieval, colonial, and the Roaring Twenties/Great Depression), supernatural, Victorian (especially the London ton), post-apocalyptic
PAIRING DYNAMICS
arranged marriage (I’m always down for slinging our characters together, whether or not they want to. It’s always a bonus if their families hate each other.), enemies to lovers (I love conflict of any sort, especially romantic!), human x not-human (The not-human must be sentient.), bad guy x good guy, intellectual x emotional, captive x captured (especially when the captured is willful, annoying, and full of fight), step-siblings (I don’t play step-parents x step-kids, so please don’t ask!), status/power imbalances (such as characters being from different socioeconomic strata or different ranks/positions in an organization), celebrity x bodyguard (I’m okay with the celebrity being the son/daughter/offspring of someone famous!), famous x not famous, rivals of any sort, unwilling traveling companions, unwilling soulmates
If any of this interests you, please feel free to reach out to me however! I'm really looking forward to hearing from you!

The Selection
Written for day 2 of @incorrectjonsansa based on the prompt "One trope to rule them all" - tropes: (semi)arranged marriage, happily ever after, hidden depths (to name a few)
Tumblr media
Sansa didn't even plan to participate in the Selection to win the heart of crown prince Jon Targaryen. But now Jon is finally going to announce the winner, the future queen and his future wife, she truly hopes he picks her.
The Selection AU // Semi-Arranged Marriage AU
Sansa doesn't know what to feel and what to want. A part of her misses her family and just wants to go home, where her brother will tease her that if the crown prince of Westeros isn't good enough for her, she is probably gonna stay single for the rest of her life. Another part wants to stay here. With him.
And it all started as a joke, months ago.
When the Selection was officially announced Sansa wasn’t interested in participating. She was not interested in Jon Targaryen and she was for sure not interested in playing nice and crawling at his feet in a desperate attempt to win his heart.
She had a good life. She had parents who loved her for who she is and encouraged her to follow her heart and pursue a career in music. She had more than enough to eat and some spare money to buy herself a new book once in a while.
And yet an official enveloppe from Dragonstone arrived ten days later. An official enveloppe for miss Sansa Stark containing a letter that told her that she had been chosen as one of the twenty girls who would fight for the most wanted marriage proposal in history.
At first she blamed Robb for signing her up without her knowledge. But when she confronted him with the letter he swore her he had nothing to do with it.
Sansa still doesn't know why Arya did it exactly. Arya assured her that she was simply helping Sansa to get famous, but Sansa assumes that Arya just wanted to chase her sister out of the house. At least she had managed to write a letter that put Sansa in a positive light, which was a nice surprise.
It was an even nicer surprise when Sansa eventually met the crown prince.
On television he always seemed bored. He rarely smiled and never used more words than he strictly had to. He always looked handsome, but he never seemed interested. Usually he simply let his father do all the talking while he only nodded once in a while to prove that he was still paying attention.
But once she actually got to know him, she realised that the person he was on television and the person he actually wanted to be had nothing in common.
Three days into the competition she packed her bags. No one had sent her away, but she just didn't feel a home, at ease. And she truly wondered what she was doing here, why she was trying to be someone she was not so someone she didn’t even love would propose to her.
It was not the future Sansa wanted. It was not the kind of marriage Sansa wanted. So she tried to sneak away through the backdoor in the middle of the night.
But the garden was not completely deserted and not everyone in Dragonstone was fest asleep.
Crown Prince Jon was awake and he caught her in the middle of her flight.
“Am I that horrible that you can’t stand me any longer?” Anyone else would have told it as some sort of joke, but the crown prince sounded serious. “I can’t blame you.” He let out a deep sigh. “The only reason the other girls stay is most likely that I can give them a title and a tiara.” He seemed vulnerable and hurt, entirely different than the stiff boy she had seen until then.
Sansa licked her dry lips. “I’m not running away from you.” She placed her suitcase on the road leading towards the gate. “I just don’t belong here in this castle, I just don’t belong in some arranged marriage. It was a mistake to accept the invitation, especially because I didn’t even sign up for this in the first place.”
“You didn’t?” Jon furrowed his eyebrows.
“My sister did.” Sansa swallowed. “I want to become a musician one day. I can sing and play the lyre. For now I’m only playing at parties from people I know, so…” She shrugged. “My sister thought that signing me up for the Selection would help me to get famous and would get me more work.”
“I never wanted to be a crown prince either.” Jon looked up at the stars above them. “I disagree with how my father treats his people. I hate the million eyes looking at me while I can’t do anything for them. I’m not sure what I’d wanna do instead. Apart from sword fighting I’m not really good at anything.”
Sansa cocked her head. “Everyone is good at something.” All of a sudden she felt sorry for the crown prince, who had not chosen this life, this selection and this arranged marriage either. “You just never had the chance to discover it because they’re boring you with politics and learning how to rule this country.”
And that conversation was the beginning of it all.
Sansa didn't leave that night. Instead she stayed and started to spend more and more time with the crown prince. She discovered that he had a beautiful smile and a musical laugh.
And a few days ago, when they danced at the ball and she taught him how to lead her, she realised that while she had helped him figuring out who he truly was, she had also fallen in love with him. But she didn't dare to say anything. And she for sure didn't dare to ask if he felt the same for her.
But she is about to find out now.
“People of Westeros.” Jon clears his throat and stares at the camera.
Millions of people were staring at their screens right now, rooting for their own favourites to become their new queen. Maybe some of those people really want her to be their new queen.
“I’m not good at those kind of speeches.”
Sansa smiles. She knows he can be quite a talker if he wants to be, if he has to be. She knows he can be quite a talker when he is with her.
“But I have chosen my queen.” Jon clears his throat and then he faces Sansa, his glance connecting with hers. He walks down the few stairs leading to the stage. His footsteps echo through the absolute silence while everyone is holding their breath. “Sansa?” He whispers when he reaches for her hand, but then Sansa clears her throat to remind him that the people want to hear him.
This is the climax of the show, the moment everyone is waiting for. They don't want to miss a word. Not even if that word is nothing but a name.
“Sansa?” Jon speaks louder this time and he falls down on one knee In front of her. “Will you please be my queen?”
Sansa’s heart hammers in her chest. The adrenaline rushes through her veins and she hears the collective gasp around her.
He picks her. He wants her. He loves her, the common girl from a respected but simple family in the north.
If she will say yes, her music career will be over before it has begun. She will neven play at small parties anymore. She will have to miss her family, probably only seeing them a few times a year. She will give up everything she always wanted to be.
And yet he is worth it. He is worth every sacrifice. He is worth every moment of loneliness. He is worth every crisis and fight waiting for them in the future.
“Yes.” She speaks firmly. “I would love to be your queen.” The smile on her face brightens and quickly Jon pushes himself up again.
Less than a second later his arms are tightly around her and his lips are passionately kissing hers.
He forgets about all the cameras and all the people watching them. Or maybe it simply doesn’t matter anymore.
“We can do this.” Jon whispers, his forehead resting on hers. “Together we can do this. With you I can do this.” He kisses her again. “I’m glad you didn’t run away that night.”
Sansa smiles and she wraps her arms around his neck. “So am I.”

A Game of Irony
A common argument against the union of Arya and Gendry is that Arya never wanted to be married or have children. This fails to consider that GRRM’s favorite narrative devise is to subvert tropes and expectation. No character ends up with what they desire at the beginning of their journey.
Ned Stark: Valued honor above all. He died a dishonorable death after having his good name and reputation destroyed in front of all of King’s Landing.
Sansa Stark: Wanted to marry a prince, become queen, and have many children. I don’t even need to explain what went wrong here.
Robb Stark: Believed the laws of hospitality would protect him under Walder Frey’s roof... it did not. Second twist of irony is that he is a warrior known for battle but was slaughtered in a cowardly backhanded attack at a wedding.
Khal Drogo: Said he would conquer Westeros and take back the Iron Throne for Daenerys. Died without ever leaving Essos.
Dany and Drogo’s child: Was known as “The Stallion Who Will Mount The World” and died before he was even born.
Jaime Lannister: Would rather die than live as a cripple. Had his hand cut off but lives anyways.
Sandor Clegane: Hates the monarchical system and everything it entails (Lords, Ladies, Knights, etc). Ends up wanting to protect two Ladies from an ancient royal family (Arya and Sansa) and Arya ends up being one of the few people he genuinely loves.
I could go on, but the point is that Arya in season 1 says she does not want to get married or have children, so it is very possible that is exactly what she will do. That does not mean it will be an unhappy ending for her, however. It’s possible for her to be a wife and mother and no be tied down to the traditional feminine role that entails. After all, her idol is Queen Nymeria, and she was a well established leader and general, even known historically as a “Warrior Queen”. And can you ever see Gendry forcing Arya to conform to societal standards? No, he’d encourage her uniqueness, and he himself also thinks the life of Lords and Ladies is bollocks.
Also remember that when Arya said she didn’t want to get married she was very young. And her idea of marriage is probably an arranged marriage, and who would want that? No one!  But with Gendry the entire situation would be different. This is someone she already cares for, and I don’t see anyone forcing her to marry him. If she did it it would be because she wanted to.
I think it’s safe to say none of the characters will end up with the life they desired in season 1, but that does not necessarily mean they will be unhappy or meet a tragic end. It just means their journeys changed them as people, along with their wants and desires. They’ve all adapted and evolved.
I’m also going to cite A Game of Irony as to why Arya will not die in the final season. Because that’s exactly what everyone expects to happen, she will die in battle. That her journey is too tragic and she is too broken and the only way this can end is in death, and her end will mirror Lyanna’s. Those are the reasons I believe with certain confidence she will be one of the few characters to be genuinely happy and at peace in the end, because she’s the one people can’t imagine having that.

married to job + marrige of convenience maybe???
How I’d combine these in a fic:
Married To The Job & Marriage Of Convenience:
Okay, so first off, I need to explain how I’m thinking of what a marriage of convenience is
and it’s kind of like an arranged marriage
so in this scenario, but Rickon and Shireen are rather uninterested in pursuing any romantic relationship
and their meeting is arranged by their parents, with the suggestion of marriage
Neither of them rejects the idea, nor do they really think they’d date someone, so it happens.
(Maybe they’re asexual in this one)
ANYWAY
So the reason this all happens is because
1. The Starks are really into wildlife preservation
2. The Baratheons (or Stannis who has taken over as head) is really into archaeological preservation
so in meetings they’ve been trying to find a way to merge interests without worry about anyone trying to usurp the other with control of the company
They settle on a marriage between the families, and Rickon and Shireen become the only reasonable option
EXCEPT
This all happens when they’re rather young
(because Robb is so much older and already married with kids when Rickon’s in school, so he’s out of the picture)
(And Bran is very gay, so he’s out of the running)
(so Rickon it is, even though it’s rather young)
and Rickon and Shireen go to the same school
Naturally, their classmates find out
Then, the teasing begins
Just that standard incessant nagging that’s really annoying because you don’t care AT ALL
People keep asking them why they aren’t sitting together
Or partners in group project
and the like
AND THEN
Someone brings up a random hypothetical situation that definitely never happened
but their classmates start shipping them
Only they don’t tell them
They do it in other ways
Like voting them as prince/princess for dance/rally courts
King and Queen at Homecoming
King and Queen at Prom
Cutest Couple in the yearbook
Basically, it’s the entire school trying to set them up
but both Rickon and Shireen are primarily focused on schoolwork and academics (because they’re expected to inherit these companies and merge them successfully)
so it completely passes over their heads
but their parents have been making them hang out
which ended up just being “let’s sit together while we work on our own work”
and “maybe we’ll go for a walk if we both want to”
but they both like the comfortable silences and amiable company
so they start to properly hang out
and see movies together
and read the same books
and help each other study
Until their classmates starts to notice
so, near the end of the year, someone asks, them rather seriously:
“Is it even true that you’re going to get married?”
And Shireen just blankly stares back and says, “We already are.”
LEADING TO EVEN MORE RUMORS
Once the person walks away, Rickon asks her, “When did we get married?”
Shireen shrugs.
Because her classmates are having fun and are no longer hostile
So she doesn’t really care.
And neither does rickon
Send me two (2) tropes from this list + a ship and I’ll describe how I’d combine them in the same story

I’m bored and there aren’t many Jonerys fics updates these days...
... so I decided to post about my favorite fics again. This post is a follow-up to this one.
Many of those fics haven’t been updated in ages unfortunately. But two of those fics are still my all-time favorites : Held Captive and It’s a game of survival so I won’t repeat myself but I still rec them any day of any year.
New favorite fics in no particular order :
A Clash of Vows
by EndDragon
Story : AU. Rhaegar wins the Battle of Trident. He takes in Daenerys. But there’s a twist, Ned still picks Jon up in Dorne after Lyanna gives birth to him and dies and raises him as his bastard. Many years later, Rhaegar, fascinated with Jon, sees him again at Robb’s wedding. He brings Daenerys along.
Why I love it to pieces : I’m a sucker for Young!Daenerys and Young!Jon meeting much earlier and falling for each other at that time. This fic doesn’t disappoint so far. Jon has the sweetest crush on Dany and she’s not indifferent herself. If you add Rhaegar and Jon written together, which isn’t done often, this fic pushes all my buttons. It’s also very well-written which doesn’t hurt.
What Lies Beyond
by OnlyInAutumn
Story : Yet another AU. Daenerys wasn’t hunted down by Robert Baratheon and was allowed to be raised in Dorne but without Viserys. Everything about Jon is pretty much the same as in canon until Lord Commander!Jon gets sent a Lady Commander by the Lannisters who hope to bribe him with this offer. Of course, said Lady Commander is none other than Dany.
Why I love it to pieces : I think we’re all suckers for Lord Commander!Jon who swore an oath falling for Daenerys despite said oath. They’re so cute in this story and Jon is such a gentleman about the whole situation. Also an interesting twist is that this Jon unlike Canon!Jon hasn’t broken his vows with Ygritte. So of course we’re all reading and waiting to see what happens when you throw in Dany in the middle of the Night’s Watch (same trope I loved in ‘Say you’ll remember me’ and ‘It’s a game of survival’...).
You Can Never Be Mine
by atetheredmind
Story : Surprise, yet another AU. Again with the growing up together trope. Daenerys isn’t a Targaryen or is a hidden one (not clear yet) and is betrothed to Robb Stark. She’s sent to Winterfell as a ward when she’s a pre-teen. So of course as Jon and Dany grow up in Winterfell, they get more and more affectionate until...
Why I love it to pieces : Only one chapter as of yet but a lot of things happen in this one chapter which covers several years. I’m a sucker for the whole forbidden love these two have : Jon’s a bastard (even if R+L=J, he doesn’t know and no one does except for Ned) and Dany’s a lady whether she’s a Targ or not. Add to that the cuteness of them being naive kids discovering their sexuality mixed with their feelings and the more forbidding aspect in that she’s Robb’s betrothed (I toyed around a fic idea dealing with this so I’m totally sold on that trope which hasn’t sadly been a lot exploited) and you have a great story full of angst like I love ‘em.
Royalty
by targaryenrestoration
Story : Surprise, yet another AU but not any AU, Modern!AU. Daenerys is a princess. Jon is an orphan but has a chance meeting with Dany’s father, King Aerys who takes him under his wing. Jon grows up, becomes a fighter. Daenerys is a spoiled princess with a secret heart of gold. When her cousin Viserys who wants the throne for himself tries to get her killed, the only person Aerys trusts with her safety as a bodyguard is Jon whom Dany can’t stand. Ensue slow burn, hate to love relationship, some angst and cuteness overload.
Why I love it to pieces : I think this must be the only modern AU story I’ve ever  recced. I read some of them but I never follow them religiously usually. Except for this one. It’s well-written and the progression of Jon and Dany’s relationship is so well-done. This Jon is also to die for, honorable, cute and hot as fuck. The slow burn is so well-written and so hot you almost don’t want them to get it on.
Honorable mentions :
-I am a man on fire, you a violent desire by ashleyfanfic
Mixing GOT with Greek myth can only get me hooked. It’s another AU, with Robb surviving and being King in the North. Jon goes to meet Dany in Dragonstone and agrees to marry her in order to secure an alliance to save the North. The twist is that Dany makes Jon drink a potion that makes him blind whenever they interact so he doesn’t get blinded by her beauty. This is supposed to be an arranged marriage - but you can see where I’m going with this - they end up falling for each other.
-The Sword of The North by DaThornintheNorth
This fic is actually one of the very few non AU fics I’m reading. It deals with the aftermath of the War with the Night King and Jon and Dany being forced to separate despite their victory. This fic is well-written and the last chapters dealing with Jon and Daenerys’ reunion were so good and intense. I really enjoy this fic because it’s different and I love the fact that even after 13 years of separation Jon and Dany obviously still long for each other but the one thing holding me back for now is that I don’t trust the writer just yet with Dany. I may be biased because as far as I know the author is male and I’m tired of seeing male writers mistreat Dany. Under the guise of writing Jonerys AU, said writers usually take away everything that’s interesting about Daenerys (her strength or her Targ inheritance, heck even her DRAGONS) to give it to Jon, making Dany either a cold bitch and/or Jon’s wifey without any interesting trait. Sadly all of those fics are blatantly written by men. So I’m still holding out judgment on this fic. For now, Dany’s a fleshed out character but I can’t help but think she’s always second to Jon in terms of agency and story arc so I’m still wary. For now I really love this fic though.

by solitariusvirtus
The King's reward is a double-edged sword. That much Lyanna learns upon receiving word that the Stepstones are conquered, yet nothing else is much as it ought to be. It is in this topsy-turvy world that the gods declared she must live, thus she's no other choice but to square her shoulders and march on, or lay down and give up the soul.
AU! While Lyanna is not at all opposed to the land and coin the King wishes to foist upon her, she does wonder whether the formerly-sellsword husband is necessary.
