#rewriting the clans

It's been a minute since I've memorized myself with the og four arcs, but I still feel like the modern warrior clans don't show the things that make them unique as they used to in the older books. Actual culture in the clans has become such a background thing, and the clans' mostly acknowledge each other by overused stereotypes. "ThunderClan gets in everyone's business" "ShadowClan can never be trusted" yeah we know And then WindClan and RiverClan just kinda exist… they don't get involved enough to get slandered at gatherings.
It would be nice to see each clan acknowledged for their odd traditions and unique mannerisms too. And I would love to see the clans themselves DO MORE with their own clanmates that make their clan feel special. Especially now that we're getting more POVs not just from good ol' ThunderClan.
Tumblr media
Have RiverClan show their skill for swimming more often. Have them swim to gatherings, unbothered by their slick, drenched coats. Imagine them leaving a gathering, dramatically submerging back into the dark water and disappearing into the night. "How unnatural..."
Have them incorporate water into their fighting technique, as we see in the opening of Into The Wild. Ambush rival cats from the water, or pull them into the water where they have the advantage. I want to see RiverClan excel in water and completely have the upper hand in some battles.
It says RiverClan decorates their nests, but it's rarely shown or appreciated. Let them have the most beautiful camp out of everyone, decorated in shells, pebbles, foliage and feathers. Let the other clans think "wow. why is it so pretty here?" or "ew, why do you decorate with fish scales?"
I want their ceremonies to involve dressing in elaborately made accessories that every cat learns to make. Have cats be given unique shells when they're born, and these shells are given to their chosen mates as a sign of true affection.
Show downtime, where cats just relax on the shoreline, kits playing in the sand, apprentices challenging each other in the water, and elders sunbathing on the rocks.
RiverClan was basically founded by a hippie. Let the clans see them as typically laidback and the type to stop and smell the roses. But when they step up, they have skills that no other clan can match.
Tumblr media
Have ShadowClan be excellent at stealth and use the literal shadows to their advantage. Have other cats not notice a ShadowClan patrol until they suddenly burst from the dark.
Imagine they cover themselves in different smells, like mushrooms, moss and pine, to mask their natural scent. I like to think ShadowClan cats have the strongest tolerance for strong or icky smells.
I think it would be cool to have Shadowclan cats know how to mimic night critter noises, like owls, frogs and crickets, to trick prey, or to communicate with their own patrol without drawing away from the natural ambiance.
Show ShadowClan as being able to move in the dark better then any other clan, and let the clans think it's UNCANNY. During nighttime battles, have them lure rivals into the darkness where they can gain the upper hand. Have them work as a team to confuse and disorientate rivals in the darkness, before striking.
Show Shadowclan cats being more nocturnal and more active at night than other clans. They thrive in it, and do most of their training and chores when the sun sets.
I want ShadowClan to be known for more than their bad history and terrible taste in leaders. I want them to be seen as mysterious night dwellers, whose talents best shine in the dark. You will never see them coming until it's too late.
Tumblr media
Windclan used to have a lot more goin on, in Tallstar's revenge, having a whole tunneling system with different ranks like Moor Runners and Tunnelers. We could have something similar to this again. Windclan navigating an elaborate abandoned warren underneath their moorland, for quick escapes, safety or even traps.
Have Windclan use the tunnels to outsmart invading clans or predators, or trap them in dead-ends. If their camp was ever overtaken, they could rely on the tunnels as a temporary home, a place no other clan knows how to navigate.
SHOW them as the fastest cats of all the clans. It's not shown all that much, except when WindClan shows up to mee a rival patrol. Show them being able to outrun rival cats, run circles around them, chasing off patrols with unmatchable swiftness.
Birds of prey used to be more of a thing in the books, but they seemed to have disappeared. Have dangerous predators around that only WindClan really knows how to evade or kill, taking down hawks and such, similar to how the Tripe of Rushing Water actively did.
Have Windclan be excellent at camouflage, since the moorlands are so open, they have to learn to blend in with shrubbery, or shroud themselves in plants and mud that blend in while patrolling. For battles, imagine they come dressed in full camouflage / warpaint.
I love the idea of cats singing and the winds just carry their voices away. It would be neat to see ceremonies directly involve the wind, singing different songs with special meanings, or releasing flower petals into the breeze when cats die. Let the other cats think that WindClan is strange, since no other clans have songs that pass through generations. Cat singing is weird.
WindClan once prided themselves for "being closer to Starclan" literally because they lived under the open sky. Imagine they're the only clan to recognize constellations, stargaze and create stories based off them.
WindClan gets wrecked more times than not, but they've got spirit, and I want the clans to see it.
Tumblr media
SkyClan had a pretty rich culture prior to moving to the Lake, and lot of it tied into their environment, so understandably, they lost so much because of Darktail. I love Skyclan honestly, and I want to see them thrive again so much.
I wish we got to see them climb trees a bit more in public, using them during patrols, jumping from branch to branch. We saw them use this method in battle, jumping down from above and landing on their enemies, and I would love to see more of this!
Show SkyClan cats as excellent climbers who don't fear heights. Causally hanging out in trees and other precarious places for pure enjoyment. Let the other clans think that it's weird and dangerous, and they're stupid for doing it. But also it makes them uneasy, cause Skyclan could attack from ANYWHERE if there's trees.
I'd LOVE to see Skyclan continue to take in kittypets/strays/loners as Daytime-Warriors, and have this general acceptance of outsiders. The OG clans are very prejudice, as we know, even against each other, so it would be neat to showcase Skyclan's tolerance for non-clan-blooded cats. If Skyclan is ever in danger, imagine a legion of outsiders rushing in to aid their SkyClan friends, much to the other clans' shock.
Skyclan to me have always felt like they'd be storytellers, given how much they've been through and how their clan came to be. Would love to see them talk more about their experiences and history to the other clans, and encourage openness and change.
SkyClan is new to the Lake, but I want them to bring in what made them special and show it off. They've got so much heart, how can you not admire them for their strength?
Tumblr media
And of course ThunderClan. The protagonist clan that's begun to feel so bland to me personally. We spent the most time with them, and I miss seeing what made them unique. (I'm very nostalgic for into the wild vibes)
ThunderClan has lived in their new home beside the Lake for years now, and I feel like it's barely talked about or used in any special way. I want to see them use their environment more.
Have it tradition for young cats to learn how to scale the rocky cliffs, in case of emergency. Have ThunderClan cats excel at scaling uneven surfaces, like little whiskered mountain goats. Oh, a Thunderclan cat was pushed off a cliff in battle? No matter. They manage to keep their cool and catch onto the surface, and scale back up or down with ease.
ThunderClan has lived through so much history, and have been at the center of it many times, so I would love to see them have more downtime together, sharing legendary stories and reliving old memoires of the past so it's never forgotten. Or fuzzy stories, just pleasant memories from a time in the past, where they learned valuable lessons or enjoyed time with loved ones.
Let everyone do fun activates and team building exercises, to strength their bonds, like hunting or cliff scaling competitions where they must work together. ThunderClan have their unsavory moments, but let's be honest, they're the heart of all the clans, holding them together more times than driving them apart. Anyway, that's the end of that. I just wanna see some inner clan chemistry, OK??? Is that too much to ask?

thought about combining some of my yiga stories with the rewrite so
what if i took this old design for Ramuda (the thief that hid the clothing you can find in botw; i made him be the second founder of the yiga alongside koga) and used him as the boss of the shadow temple?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(in my yiga stories koga is a monk from back when the first calamity happened, after being hunted down by the royal family as their tech was being banned he and Ramuda founded the yiga; ramuda was a researcher and developed a way to seal malice into tattoos to make use of its life preserving and combat enhancing abilities; they used it first on themselves and it wasnt quite right yet the malice wasnt sealed enough within the tattoos and started to affect their mind leading them to get overtaken by their hatred for the royals and attempting to assassinate the king of their time, failing and being killed by the princess, hence the hole in his head, but they didnt die, the malice kept them alive but only in a zombie like way, they werent themselves anymore and were imprisoned in secret by the royal family- koga finished the research and used the more refined tech to do the same to himself which is why he is still alive to this day, side effects being mostly his extreme need for sleep, memory loss and loss of control when a bloodmoon hits)
so my thought was that the shadow temple is located beneath the akkala fort, but extremely hidden and kept a secret, the fortress being made in the first place to have constant control of it to make sure no one can even accidentally discover the dark secret the royal family of the past had kept (similar to the og shadow temple bc tbh it fits well into it all) ramuda being kept in an arena like cell at the end of it as he grew more agressive over time (id want to redesign them for this purpose but not by much, add more rot as they have been down there for centuries, and some sort of shackles, perhaps give him back arms that are shackled and in phase two they break free driven by the rage of recognizing that zelda is of royal blood once you defeat him they fall on their knees and start to disappear, but now that the malice is gone, and although they have no face left yet still recognize koga, weakly reaching for him with one hand, koga grabs it and as ramuda is already half gone his hand tightens the grip before disolving fully
even without spelling everything of this backstory out i think it work well as its clear koga had a personal connection to the person that turned into the boss and i think thats a realyl good thing, gives way more weight to it than just another mindless monster
a little more unsure is where the enigma stone was kept but one idea i had is that it was used to power whatever mechanism was put in place to keep ramuda locked in there, the only reason getting into the shadow temple at all being that it got damaged during the cataclysm and wasnt fully functioning anymore
(totk rewritten project)

Reading your post about the DOTC leaders made me wonder - in BB, when does the DOTC naming style shift into the modern naming style? If they're already using modern-style names by the time Windstar's (possible) grandson is leader, that seems pretty quick - unless Cloudberry and Ryewhisker had DOTC-style names originally, and just got called modern-style names later on.
They did originally have DOTC style names! There's going to be more shuffles soon as I move to expand the Forest Cats into a third major cultural group, but I'm planning for all three of these groups to contribute to the naming system.
The older story, which I'm going to be shuffling now, is that two-part names came from Mountain Cats, but the name changes come from Park Cats.
Mountain Cats have a given prefix, and a familial suffix.
Whichever familial suffix the kittens receive is "political." Usually the names are split evenly, so as an example, Jackdaw Cry and Hawk Swoop named one twin Lightning Cry, and the other twin Acorn Swoop, but Clear Sky insisted that ALL of his kittens receive Sky as their familial suffix. Except Thunder Storm, of course, who he disowned.
This stops being used after the collapse of the River Kingdom and the massive conflict that came from the succession crisis. After that, Byyrkabraw, directly translated as "scab-forming" and roughly translated as "nepotism," becomes a taboo to be avoided. Sharing last names with your parents and family took on a bad, biased connotation for several generations.
Thus, the system dies in Clan Culture. However, it persists and evolves in Tribe Culture! Brook's name in BB is Brook Where-It-Swirls, and she shares the last name with her two brothers. They've kept last names, but the last names have gotten longer.
What DOES remain in Clan Culture is that Mountain-descendant cats 'prefer' 2-part names, and like to say the entire thing. It's Mountain culture that creates Clanmew's preference for contractions rather than syllable-shortening.
As an example, for a long name like... Dandelionbreeze, send her back in time to talk to a Park or Forest cat and they'll shorten her name to "Dan" or "Lion" or "Bree." It's the Mountain cat who would call her "Danzy," which becomes part of being 'polite' in Clanmew name shortenings.
Park Cats are born "nameless," and earn names as they grow.
It's PARK culture that was so centralized and ceremonial, with kings and a clearer hierarchy. As kits, they're just called by a characteristic trait. The Biggest One, Little Ears, Ginger. Their first real name is given when they're assigned as an apprentice, and they become [Mentor's Nickname] [Dominant Paw].
So as an example, because the prince is always mentored by their father and the king at the time was Arc-of-Park, Riverstar's very first name was Arc's Paw.
Once they're fully trained, they can earn titles. On average, a cat will earn two or three of these in their lifetime, discounting outliers like Titles Georg. These are three words or less, and usually reference strengths and achievements. Willow Flayed Bare, Slate Keeper, The Wind Runner.
These titles are made official by the King, which is where Warrior Name changes originally stem from.
In a situation where Park Cats have left their kingdom, they will turn towards the cat they recognize as an authority to make these name changes. In WindCo, either the "parriarch" of a homestead would bestow these names, or The Wind Runner herself. Thunder Storm began doing it on request, as the Park Cats who joined his cause wanted their names to come from him.
It's not seen as "appropriate" for a cat to name themself... but there are rebellious cats, who may forge their own titles, if they're willing to eat the social implications.
River's Ripple was quite independent. He came up with his own name, and then asked his papa to make the name official. King Arc of Park argued with him a lot about this, especially because the name he chose sounded a lot like an apprentice's title, and only caved in when he realizes there would be a MASSIVE scandal if it looked like his prince would willingly bypass the will of his father entirely.
(The Wind Runner's name was "crowdsourced." She didn't give it to herself; that's what WindCo calls her.)
Forest Cat names...
So there's the two-parts from the Mountain cats, and the name changes from the Park cats... and now I'm trying to work in a third element here, which I'm still trying to figure out.
I'm thinking of putting ranks into their names, since I'm starting with a given that Slash/Shai/Silverpelt is their leader. Maybe have it so that the name the Park/Mountain cats call him is "Slashes" in reference to his leg markings, but his real name is Silver-Star, with all of his cats just referring to him as his rank, Silver (formally) or his given name, Star (informally)
(Over time his name is going to become Silverpelt. They believe that he became heaven itself. Ssoen becomes Clanmew's opening particle for omnipotent knowledge, Star becoming the leader suffix.)
Then make it so that his followers follow the Rank-Given name system. So there's Claw-Milkweed, her daughter Kit-Bramble, a good hunter might be Whisker-Violet. So, over a very short number of generations, both the Forest Cat and Park Cat naming systems start to meld, since it's not all that different.
ALSO NOTEWORTHY: The Wind Coalition was more mixed with Forest Cats than the River Kingdom was. So the Park/Forest name schemes beginning to mix together would be beginning up on the Moor, while there would be more Mountain/Forest mixing happening in Thunder's Clan.
This is a WIP section btw, these guys are still extremely new.
Anyway, skip forward a few generations
Cloudberry's and Ryewhisker's names aren't the ones they had in life. The were active 25-ish years after DOTC, after the collapse of the River Kingdom when things had begun to "settle down."
With the Law of the Deputy, Commandment 3, WindCo and River Kingdom are now Clans. They operate with a Leader and a Deputy.
In-canon, Cloudberry is the daughter of the RiverClan leader, Emberstar. I'm not sure if that's going to remain; because I still haven't chosen who Riverstar's successor is. The Law of Loyalty is Commandment 4 and I'm committed to Duststar of WindClan being alive and in a position of power during the succession crisis.
It could be that Cloudberry's father is Riverstar's successor, OR I swap Ryewhisker to be Duststar's son/grandson instead and include a small detail that Duststar feels a need to prove he's NOT being biased in favor of his dead descendant by forcing this commandment through.
Maybe both, that could be fun. Romeow and Mewliet type thing. Two Clans, alike in their digkitty.
Anyway, point being, Cloudberry is from Park Cat culture as a member of RiverClan, which was heavily influenced by some pretty open travel between the groups under Riverstar's rule. The modern naming system was coming together, as cats of these three cultures mixed, but it wasn't quite there yet. So Cloudberry probably had a full title, while Ryewhisker had a title and a rank.
It might even be a translation quirk. Cloudberry is also called "knout," and it's a red-orange fruit that comes to be heavily valued in the Clans. Knout Berry Keeper, which is only remembered as Knout-Berry, written as Cloudberry.
(It would be cute if the direct translation was Cloudberry Cloud.)
For Ryewhisker, the most I know with him is that he's somehow related to the guy who invents Tunnelbuns, or at LEAST some kind of inventive contributor (such as a person who invents bread). He gets his name from that-- Rye is one of the most easily accessible grains.
I haven't nailed their names down yet, since by the modern era, they're known as Cloudberry and Ryewhisker. But they did actually have different names, which have changed over the years.
They also didn't speak Modern Clanmew, their native tongue was actually the border between the Mountain/Park/Forest pidgin and the creole language that would soon be born! A linguist might describe it as Ancient Clanmew.

pluvi begging you to expand on gojo not wanting what happened to his mother to happen to you 🙏
warnings: it’s all a dream so nothing is real aside from the flashback stuff but pregnancy as horror, (sewing) needles, implied gore/eye trauma, implied child harm, gojo is messed up yo!!! and its bc of his mama!!!
he dreams about her.
it’s an odd thing, really. gojo isn’t much of a dreamer—not much of a sleeper, all things considered, but it’s difficult not to give in when you drag him to bed and curl up in his arms. the soft rise and fall of your chest, the steady thump of your heart, the sound of your breath; it soothes him into slumber.
and he dreams about her. she was always young. he’s older now than she ever got to be. frail, thin; borderline skeletal, robes hanging from her body like webbing. she sits in a chair facing a window, swathed in moonlight, the silver of her embroidery needle glinting with each stab. her face is veiled. her stomach is swollen with child.
she doesn’t turn to him, but she beckons without noise. his feet take him easily to her, and he kneels at her side as she sets aside the embroidery hoop to let him place his head on her knees.
her hand is cold as it threads through his hair. it’s gentle, at first. then harsher a moment later. she grips firm, tugs him up by those electric white threads, stares down at him through all that elaborate lace.
he imagines she’s weeping beneath it. his mother never wept before him, but she was pretty in the aftermath, eyes puffy and pink and shining. they were a cold kind of loving when they regarded him. she must have been beautiful once, elegant and lithe and willowy, cruel like the heartless sea and sharp like a brilliant diamond, but whatever was there is long gone. he thinks all sons must empty their mothers, bleed them dry from within, because his was always a shell.
she trails her hand down the side of his face, and he turns into the palm and closes his eyes, and she is silent as she sets down her embroidery to lift her veil. she is silent and hollow and eidolic as her fingers brush down his jaw and tilt his head up to look at her.
but it’s your face that he sees when he opens his eyes.
it’s your hand against his cheek, your eyes pink and puffy and pretty, your stomach bulging by his own doing. it’s your fingers that pluck up the needle, still attached to a thread of brilliant cerulean, and raise it to his eye.
his mother never was able to pierce him with that needle. she stopped herself, each and every time, dropping it and tugging him close in shame. she never doted, never was kind, but she never did manage to harm him.
you do. he lets you. it’s only fair. whatever thing is in your stomach can’t be human—whether god or demon what does it matter, at the end of the day—and didn’t he put it in you himself? if his mother never got the satisfaction of spilling his blood, shouldn’t you?
but he wakes just as the tip pierces his iris, and you hold him in your lap, eyes wide with concern and not puffy from weeping, and you hold no child within you. your hands thread through his hair and they’re warm, your lips plush when you bend to press a kiss to his brow.
he turns inward to press his face into your (empty, blissfully vacant) abdomen. the wetness he leaves there, falling from his so very coveted eyes, is colorless.
he thinks it ought to be brilliant crimson.

the reason why I draw mousewhisker as a fully white cat with blue eyes is because of my PO3 rewrite!
I have this scene that spins around in my head, where early on in his apprenticeship, mousewhisker is snatched up by a hawk.
Brackenfur saves him, but he becomes inconsolable because of the fact that mousepaw and snowkit look very similar.
I hinted at mentions of snowkit throughout my rewrite but directly after this incident mousepaw learns about snowkit.
It's one of the more intense and emotionally charged scenes of my rewrite
But because of it I usually default draw mouse as a white cat!

elaborating on my previous Auraboa doodle, with more thoughts about what my Ideal feathered snake dragon would look like
Tumblr media
python face, with no eyelids. why are they called auraBOAs if they're modeled after venomous snakes (i am aware pythons aren't boas either don't @ me. but it's closer than what they have now)
body is entirely feathered, save for the belly scales. in the original drawing, they had a head crest of long feathers that was supposed to get shorter down the neck, and blend into the feathery back mane. in this one i shortened it greatly and made it more of a cockatoo crest thing. a longer crest could still be fun though
the wings and tail feathers have a rounded, elliptical shape to them. elliptical wings give great maneuverability, and would be ideal for a jungle-dwelling dragon
the original doodle had paws and coatl feather ear things, but i'm getting rid of both of those. i like the sleeker snake look that Not having them adds to. also someone in the notes opened my eyes to the hand possibilities, and if this redesign DID have limbs, they would have parrot feet
also sidenote about their name: is it just me or is Auraboa kinda. clunky to say? my brain keeps autocorrecting it to Aurabora, which rolls off the tongue so much nicer. maybe even Auraboras, to make the ouroboros reference clearer

I can see why some people would be uncomfortable with the idea of trans Redtail being Sandstorm's dad, but like
Something about how cis women in wc are restricted from leadership by their ability to have kits but the cis men aren't bc the clans define women by their bodies and how it's used to serve the clans and how the clans expect the mom to do the kit rearing or else she's the worst but the dad can abandon them for all they care and bluestar sacrificing her own kits just to keep a far less worthy tom from obtaining power because he's a tough manly man and she's just a woman and how it haunts her for life and now she has a male deputy who wants to have kits and keep his position but his very nature defies the gender roles the clans box cats into and now the other cats have to confront this fact and they are twisting themselves into knots to justify this shitty normalized norm no matter what they think of redtail's choice and they give two choices but both of them are bad and the real question is do they let go of their prejudice and work with the cat in front of them or do they double down in the name of traditions that don't respect any cat that strays outside their curated binary and bluestar knows how it feels to have to justify yourself to a world that refuses to help you even once but can she trust him with her own darkest secret born from the same prejudices and something something gender binaries are a curse both in and out of universe

Original plan for A Starless Clan ending:
Berryheart votes Tigerstar out.
Tigerheart says that he is done. He had been met with hatred and judgement at every turn, and that nothing he does is the right thing. He is leaving.
Tigerheart, Dovewing, Lightleap, Shadowsight, Pouncestep and Rowankit leave Shadowclan and head to The Guardians.
While Tiger, Dove, Shadow, and Rowan are okay with being Guardians, Lightleap grows restless, as well as Pouncestep.
The two leave, and begin a resistance in Shadowclan, held with Grassheart, Gullswoop, Flowerstem, Cinnamontail, and Crowfrost.
Cloverfoot is poisoned by Berryheart, who took the leadership position for herself. The new deputy is Sparrowtail.
Lightleap and Pouncestep integrate themselves back into Shadowclan, Lightleap doing her best to get closer and closer with Berrystar. She gets to see her as a person at her lowest points, hear about her dreams and hopes for other cats. Berrystar considers Lightleap to be her best friend, despite the age difference, she is the only one Berrystar can trust. Like a daughter to her, more of a daughter than Sunbeam...
Lightleap lets her in too, in a way, sharing her own fears. How scary the Dark Forest was, how much she misses her family, her failed relationship with Blazefire, even the silly things like how she hates spicy food and likes Magpie feathers in her nest.
Sparrowtail is killed by Pouncestep and Grassheart. It looks like an accident. What a shame that the branch in that tree happened to land where he was.
Berrystar is at her lowest point. Her mate is gone. Her daughter is gone. Hollowspring has been killed too, a sneak attack from Lightleap herself Lightleap blames Thunderclan's new deputy Lilyheart. It's too much for Berrystar, her mind unravleing under the pressure of leadership and tragedy of her family. Screw the code and screw Starclan's opinion, she thinks, I'm making the only cat left that I trust my new deputy, she'll get an apprentice when the next kit is made into one. Pouncestep, in her quietness, was given Whisperpaw. Berrystar is a horrible le person but she gets that a quiet kit could often use a quiet mentor.
Lightleap is made Deputy.
War has been raging between Shadowclan and the other Clans, Berrystar's lives have been whittling down. A throat wound here, an infection there, she has to be running low by now...
Lightleap arranges a plan with Sunbeam, who's been staying in Thunderclan to get away from her mother...
A raid lead by Hollyleaf and Sunbeam begins, in the heart of Shadowclan's camp. Confusion and panic fill the air, no one is paying attention to the rotting leader's den.
In the chaos, Lightleap, faithful deputy born of Berrystar's enemy, the only cat Berrystar will speak to, the cat Berrystar sees as her own daughter, corners the paranoid, snappy, hateful leader in her own den...
"Remember me all the way to the Dark Forest, Berrystar."
"Lightleap, what is this? I'm the leader of Shadowclan, or have you forgotten?"
"Not for much longer. I'm going to kill you, and then kill you again. As many times as it takes for you to send you to the Dark Forest, forever. I am taking back my home!"
Berrystar was reported have to have been killed in the chaos by a Thunderclan warrior. Theories launch about who did, but the culprit is never found. Pouncestep is made deputy.
Lightstar puts an end to the war.

A Starless Clan: an idea!
----
I saw a post the other day saying something about Wind and how WindClan probably won't be important. So, I got to thinking..
I could have protags in every Clan! Now, It would get difficult but, how it might work: The book with the Clan name (ex. River) will have a RiverClan protag throughout the whole book. The protags from the other Clans will still be important characters and will be shown many times!
Possible protags for the books:
RiverClan -> Frostpaw
ThunderClan -> Nightheart
WindClan -> Whistlepaw
ShadowClan -> Spireclaw or Sunbeam
SkyClan -> Needleclaw?
Now of course that's just possible options, I'm gonna make OCs and they might take some of those cats places!
Two more ideas I thought of:
This arc will be more that six books, I don't know how long I'll make it at the moment. I feel like this arc shouldn't be wrapped up so quickly, maybe ten books? I might also do the same with other arcs, make them longer or shorter!
2. After the defeat of Splashtail, RiverClan is left leaderless yet again. No cat really steps up, so Mothwing does! Mothwing becomes leader!

Never Have I Ever with the Kung family be like:
Jin: Never have I ever… slept with the enemy.
Both Laos and Jian: *takes shot*
Huai, to Lao: But Kitana isn’t your enemy?
Lao, shrugging: She was at one point. Are we gonna ignore the fact that both our ancestors took a shot?
Jin, turning to them: Who was it?
GKL and Jian at the same time: Shang Tsung.

While I know the arc isn’t going to be rewritten until after it’s done, do you think the researchers would be PISSED that this random vet sterilized one of their cats? I imagine they’re pretty protective of their cats, and this could throw a huge wrench into their studies
They would be. It's not like the Clan cats are an little-known thing in BB, either! It's pretty common knowledge that the colonies around Sanctuary Lake are of scientific interest.
There's even little signs up and such warning hikers not to feed or harass them. Public interest in the project is currently a bit low in this particular time period (it waxes and wanes) but the horse farm is well aware of them. They run a horseback riding business here; there's almost certainly special signs warning riders of what to do if a Clan cat spooks your mount, and they do bring curious visitors to the lake.
Frostpaw will probably not get sterilized in BB, though. Why the hell would a horse vet do surgery and TNR right there in the field, only taking a single day? Especially if Clan cats are known and studied?
What's probably going to happen instead is that Smoky runs for a human, who dials the nearby sanctuary, and the people who visit Frostpaw in BB are the researchers. IF I even end up keeping it at all.

ooh what was the actual relationship between slash and star flower like in your rewrite? i'm curious
So I still have some drafting to do with them both, but:
First off; One-Eye and Slash are kittenhood friends. One-Eye was just a little bit older than Slash and the two were like brother and sister
So when One-Eye came around with his little daughter StarFlower (who most likely had a different name at the time), Slash instantly became attached to her
They're like godmother/aunt and niece
Also, since Bumble and StarFlower are sisters (Bumble is the little sister), Slash was eventually introduced to Bumble later down the line and became attached as well. But he never saw Bumble much on account of her being a Kittypet
Slash heard from time to time about some new forest/moor cats, and that Bumble slowly became closer to one of them specifically
Then, news came of Bumble going missing, and Slash set her glare towards Tom, suspecting him of being apart of this
Bumble's starved corpse was found, bloodied and beaten
Slash learned of this when One-Eye and StarFlower came to Slash and his group, One-Eye asking his old friend for support through his "army" and Slash agrees
During the preparation, Slash is there to comfort StarFlower a bit. But his way of encouraging isn't really the best and he unintentionally tries to have StarFlower take instant action
StarFlower is a mentally strong cat, but she just lost her sister and she needs some time. Slash doesn't understand this
Slash cared about StarFlower, he really did
The reason the story version claims that Slash was promised by One-Eye that StarFlower would become his mate was because… -drumroll-:
ClearSky had told everybody this!
I have a brainstorming idea that the reason ClearSky thought this was because of some mishearing
I don't know how I'd approach this part but I have an idea:
Slash calls everybody "Mate", friends, family, anyone
However, because ClearSky doesn't know about what "Mate" actually means in slang terms, he came to the bonkers conclusion that Slash was promised by One-Eye that StarFlower and him would become "mates"
This ties into an idea I want to approach in DotC where many cats don't understand the culture of the cats before them
That they believe that anything they don't know must have a negative connotation, leading to the twisting of history and the demonization of those who were there before them
So in this case: ClearSky doesn't understand the cultural slang that Slash is using, and equates it to something that he himself thinks it might be linked to, which is usually something negative
But I digress: Basically, Slash and StarFlower used to have a close relationship with each other. But due to the death of Bumble and the eventual death of One-Eye at the hands of The Settlers, it caused a strain between the two. I want the outcome of their arc together being the damage that The Settlers caused to many families and friends, tearing them apart through their conflict.
In this rewrite, they are NOT MATES nor did One-Eye promise to make StarFlower Slash's mate. That is kept in, but it is kept into the story that the Clans would later go on to tell, a completely mangled and twisted version of the truth Of course, I still need some rough drafting to do with them and right now I'm really occupied with 100 other things, but hopefully I can find time in between to work on them more. Maybe even some suggestions (Which I'm open to completely)

You know, the S3 episode Tale of The Yokai kinda hints at the possibility that Tang Shen and Saki (Shredder) used to be in a relationship before Shen married Yoshi (Splinter). We see this in the scene where Saki is talking to Shen after he “saved” her from the Yokai (aka the Turtles) and he begs her to "take him back".
Honestly, I hate to make Tang Shen the bad guy with this theory, but what if she had an affair?? This possible concept would give Saki more of a motivation as to why he snapped and attacked Yoshi, believing Miwa is the result of their affair and is his child.
