Childfree

If you ask me, a childfree person, what are some "good" reasons to have children, I'm going to tell you that there are none. Most of the reasons that people state for wanting children are driven by ego. "I wanted to carry on my 'legacy.'" "I want to carry on my bloodline." "I want someone to take care of me when I'm older." Etc. All basically "I" statements. All very selfish reasonings. And that's something that parents will have to unpack for themselves. A lot of parents have God-complexes and just want little soldiers or little dolls to boss around. Also, folks don't realize that they're not only raising children, but they're also raising teenagers and adults.

The moment a childfree person says they don't want children, we're asked why. We can give dozens of very valid reasons, yet folks will invalidate us at every turn and call us selfish. People are not asked why they want children as much. Folks will really keep having children that they can't afford, and that's way more selfish than not having children.

Once I knew that it was an option to not be a parent, I decided that I didn't want children. This was like 10 years ago in college. The more I learned about childbirth and childrearing, the more it was a big "hell naw" for me. I prolonged having sex with cis het men because of it. Plus, I was waiting to be in a relationship.

We live in a world that glamorizes having children, but the reality doesn't match up. Let's talk about morality rates amongst pregnant women/uterus havers, especially those of Black women/birthing persons. Let's talk about how it costs to give birth. Let's talk about children in foster care. Let's talk about children having to pay for lunch. I could go on.

The bottom line is that childfree people are shown every day why we do not want to raise children.

Face value

To be childlike is to take things at face value.

It’s something most of us don’t do. Not anymore.

We’ve learned to protect ourselves. By looking for the catch, the hook, the real reason why someone is doing something.

Because we’ve had to.

But if that’s all we do, then we miss out on a lot of the good stuff. And even the stuff we don’t miss out on, we don’t really enjoy it. Because we’re looking for the catch, the hook.

It’s especially true for relationships. Both our relationships with people and our relationship with God.

There’s nothing wrong with protecting yourself.

Go ahead and look. If you find the catch, if you find the hook? You know what to do.

But at some point, if you haven’t found the catch, the hook? Then maybe. Just maybe. There’s a reason for that.

There isn’t one. Which means?

Which means that this is someone you can take at face value. This is someone you can trust. This is someone you can enter into a relationship with.

This is what Jesus is talking about in today’s Gospel. This is what it means to be childlike.

Go ahead and look at God. Not someone’s idea of God. Look at God.

Look all you want. You won’t find a catch, you won’t find a hook. There’s a reason for that.

There isn’t one.

Which means that God is someone you can take at face value. God is someone you can trust. God is someone you can enter into a relationship with.

For some of us, figuring this out can take a long time.

I know this, because I’m one of those people.

Because I am one of those people, I can tell you this – when you do figure it out, you’ll find God waiting for you with open arms.

okay this isn't what i usually post but i am actually shaking in terror of what people don't know? so here's a list. (this is not haha I'm making fun of you, you're an idiot, this is i love you so much pls don't die)

you have to clean out your dryer lint. like after every cycle

you must wear closed toes shoes in the following places: forests, construction sites, shops, anywhere people go fishing

you cannot wear shorts when you are on an ATV, motorcycle, anything of that fashion

DO NOT! POUR WATER! ESPECIALLY HOT WATER! ON A FROZEN WINDSHIELD TO THAW IT!!!! IT WILL SHATTER!

no wild animal is your friend. no matter how small or cute it is. admire from a distance and stay respectful

if the ocean is running away from you, you should run away from it! to a very high place

if someone is bleeding out, DO NOT PERFORM CPR UNTIL THERE IS A TOURNIQUET PLACED. you will push all of the blood out of their body

do not be scared of noises in the woods. if something wanted to hurt you, you wouldn't hear it. don't investigate though!

if you are pulled away by current in the water, do not swim directly away. you are not strong enough and you will tire yourself out. instead, swim diagonal, following the current. eventually you will get out. if it is leading you to a waterfall, and it might, get your body as straight as you can to avoid too much damage from the fall

do not pour water on a grease fire (most fires when cooking are grease fires). turn off the burner, put a lid on it

speaking of fire, it needs 3 things to survive: oxygen, fuel, and heat. take one away and bam no fire

To take on someone elses healing

To process someone's trauma for them

To monitor and manage someone else's emotions

To teach people how to love

To try and get people to appreciate you

To "keep the peace"

To spend all your energy trying to keep someone happy

To try and prevent someone from cheating

To teach people how to apologize & take accountability

To try and get others to change toxic behaviors

To accept responsibility for pain you didn't cause

To try and get them to heal pain they have caused to others

To do all the emotional labor in your relationships and friendships

To accept less than you deserve

To blame yourself when people treat you poorly

To teach them emotional intelligence

To stay quiet when you are hurting

To lie and hide things for them

To protect people who wouldn't do the same for you

To help someone else grow

To teach people how to find healthy coping mechanisms that work for them

To allow yourself to be taken for granted for the sake of "love"

To believe them when they have been caught lying before

To teach people self love

To make excuses, explanations or justifications for someone else

To allow yourself to be manipulated because you want to believe them

To control other people

To awaken them

To change their beliefs about themselves and the world around them

To convince them why they should want to better themselves

To pull them out of the hole they've dug for themselves

To try to repair relationships you didn't break

To stay where you feel you no longer belong

To make yourself small to keep other's comfortable

It IS our responsibility to heal OURSELVES, and in doing so, inspiring other's to do the same.

No matter how many people have told you that you are a "healer," it is NOT your responsibility to heal those who don't want to be healed, aren't ready for it, or arent appreciative of you.

Some may never take this path, and that is their choice to make.

Protect your energy.
