Allah calls Himself Dhul-Jalaali wal-Ikraam—The Possessor of Glory and Honour, The Lord of Majesty and Generosity — on two occasions in the Quran. He is the one who owns each attribute and manner of glory, majesty, superiority, generosity, and honour. Dhul-Jalaali wal-Ikraam is the source of great splendour and abundance!

The Owner of Loftiness and Majesty, The Lord of Generosity and Nobility

Jalaal comes from the root jeem-laam-laam, which points out to three main meanings. The first main meaning is to be glorious, majestic and sublime. The second main meaning is to be high, lofty and independant and the third to be supremely great. This root appears twice in the Quran in one form; as the noun jalaal. An example is al-jalaali (of Majesty).

Ikraam, kareem and akram come from the root kaaf-raa-meem, which points out to four main meanings. The first meaning is to be generous, giving, and beneficent. The second main meaning of this root is to be highly esteemed, honoured and valued. The third main meaning is to be precious, valuable and rare and the fourth to be bountiful and productive. This root appears 47 times in the Quran in eight derived forms. Examples of these forms are al-akram (“the Most Generous”), kareemun (“noble”), kiraaman (“dignified ones”) and al-ikraam (“and Honor ”).

Linguistically, dhu or thoo is a demonstrative pronoun and literally means with, in, on, or of in the Arabic language. In Dhul-Jalaal dhu refers to Allah ‘azza wa jall being complete Possessor, Owner and Lord of al-Jalaal, Majesty and Glory. Wal-Ikraam means wa (and) al-Ikraam, the Generosity and Bounty. Kareem is an adjective while ikraam is a verbal noun.

Allah is the Lord of these two beautiful Attributes. Dhul-Jalaali wal-Ikraam is the One who is most precious and honoured, He is the Majestic and Glorious Lord, Owner and Source of all generosity, blessings and bounties!

Dhul-Jalaali wal-Ikraam Himself says: Blessed is the name of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor [Quran, 55:78]

The Honourable Face of Allah

In Surah Ar-Rahmaan Allah ‘azza wa jall tells us about the moment everything and everyone on earth will perish and only His honourable Face will remain, because He is the Ever-Living and will never die. Allah ‘azza wajall describes His Face here as being Dhul-Jalaali wal-Ikraam. Ash-Sha`bi said, “When you have recited, Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish.) do not stop, continue reading,And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.”[Quran, 57:24-25] Ibn `Abbas commented on the meaning of Dhul-Jalaali wal-Ikraam, by saying, “Owner of greatness and pride.” Both of these statements can be found in tafseer Ibn Katheer.

How Can You Live by This Name?

1. Seek the Face of Dhul-Jalaali wal-Ikraam.

Allah ‘azza wa jall describes His Noble Face as being Dhul-Jalaali wal-Ikraam; only He is worthy of being revered and obeyed. Make it a mission to seek His Face in everything you do. And keep yourself patiently with those who call on their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His Face [Quran, 18:28] That means for example that if you do something for someone else or give someone something, you don’t do it for their praise or recognition, but only to please Allah. As He said about those giving charity: We feed you seeking Allah’s Face only [Quran, 76:9] You can test yourself by seeing how you feel when someone doesn’t show gratefulness or doesn’t recognize what you did for them: do you feel angry and upset? Then you might have to remind yourself to do it for His Face only He records each deed, no matter if people thank you or not.

2. Remember Dhul-Jalaali wal-Ikraam after each prayer. Follow a sunnah and get rewarded immensely by using below dhikr after salah. A’ishah radiyallahu ‘anhaa said, “When the Messenger of Allah would (say the) Salam (completing prayer), he would only sit as long as it takes him to say,

‎اللْهُمَّأَنْتَالسَّلَامُوَمِنْكَالسَّلَامُ،تَبَارَكْتَيَاذَاالْجَلَالِوَالْإِكْرَام

Allahumma antas-salaam wa minkas-salaam, tabaarakta yaa Dhal-Jalaali wal-Ikraam (O Allah! You are As-Salam, and peace comes from You. Blessed be You Yaa Dhal-Jalaali wal-Ikraam) [Muslim]

3. Be generous. Let Allah ‘azza wa jall being the Lord of generosity be an inspiration for you to be kareem (generous) to others as the Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: The generous one is close to Allah, close to people, far from the fire… [At-Tirmidhee]

4. Recognize the Source. When you receive gifts from people or someone benefits you by giving support or help, know that the Source of these bounties is Dhul-Jalaali wal-Ikraam. So when a gift or benefit arrives to you, make sure the first thing you do is saying ‘alhamdulillah’ and honour the true Giver from whom all blessings come. Then, thank the person for example by supplicating for them by saying jazaakAllahu khayr (may Allah reward you with good) or baraakAllahu feek (may Allah bless you).

5. Ask Dhul-Jalaali wal-Ikraam. The Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam encouraged you to call upon Allah ‘azza wa jall in an effective manner by using His most Beautiful Names. When you start your dua’ with this Name, mind that Dhu changes into Dha, for example Yaa Dhal-Jalaali wal-Ikraam. The Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: Persist (in invoking Allah) with, “Yaa Dhal-Jalaali wal-Ikraam [Ahmad, An-Nasaa’i] So when you make a dua’, you can say: Yaa Dhal-Jalaali wal-Ikraam… [ your request]..

O Allah, Dhul-Jalaali wal-Ikram, we know that You are the Lord of all majesty and bounty. Aid us to seek Your Honourable Face only in our intentions, words and deeds. Help us to put obedience to You above everything else in our daily life and make us generous to others. Bless us with being able to see Your Countenance in the Hereafter, ameen!

cerberus corp has been watching ok jangmi. some of the public has dubbed them aura because of combat specialism gifted by a robbery gone wrong. having been an extra ordinary since 2010, they're doing a good job at hiding their vulnerability against ranged attacks. when they aren't working their day job as a personal trainer, they are fond of bullet journaling and are never seen without their vintage photo of a stranger gifted by her mother. at first glance, they seem protective & empathetic, though their close friends know them to also be obsessive & vindictive. they consider themself a vigilante.

near death experience…

for some context, jangmi's mother was a taekwondo instructor while her father taught judo. growing up, the two often nagged jangmi to partake in their lessons, both of them believing it best if their child had self defense skills & while jangmi appreciated it, she did what most kids do: refuse to take their lessons seriously, doing the bare minimum just to keep them off her back ( while pairing it all with lots of groaning and eye rolling ). on jangmi's eighteenth birthday, them and their friends sneak into a popular & busy club using fake IDs. it's the most fun they've had in years and the few glasses of alcohol finally silence the warnings she hears from her parents. the stuff their parents worry about.. that doesn't happen to them --- or rather, it hasn't until the group are walking home. their group is approached by another, hooded figures demanding whatever cash they have on hand & their valuables. being her mother's child ( and perhaps with the help [?] of some liquid courage ), jangmi immediately jumps into action, taking on the role of protector and granting their friends the chance to escape. the bad men are angry with jangmi and blame her for allowing their cash cow, her rich friend, to escape them. they also think she needs to be taught a lesson for the disrespect her mouth has tossed their way in the process. the next hour --- maybe longer, jangmi isn't sure how much time has passed --- is grueling & painful and no matter how much she tries to fight back, none of her parents' lessons are coming to her and she's left for dead, eventually found by a homeless person hoping for a reward from the nearly deceased's family. while jangmi isn't entirely sure why their powers are what they are, she believes it might be because all they thought about as they laid there atop the trash was that they refused to die. refused to let those.. men ( derogatory ) win and when she was wins her second chance, she'll become the embodiment of the lessons her parents wished to bestow upon her, as both an apology & out of the respect she hadn't truly paid them until now.

power…

jangmi's power is combat specialism, which grants them the ability to become an innate combat and fighting genius. it wasn't something she could control in the beginning, her brain forcing her body to move in ways it wasn't used to often resulted in injuries like pulled muscles, sprains, breaks, etc. it also drained her stamina significantly, often rendering her immobile for days until she was able to recharge. upon her realisation of all this, jangmi went to her parents for help and, while keeping away from actual combat, asked them to teach her the best ways to train both mind and body through research, meditation, breathing, and physical exercise. on her own, they trained meticulously until they were able to better build their body to keep up & implement her power, training, and knowledge to work for, rather than against, her.

drawbacks / vulnerabilities…

their biggest vulnerability is that she's rendered useless against anything ranged, especially considering their power has a strong emphasis on close quarter combat. the same can be said against anyone who is impervious to physical attacks. and going back to the whole anything ranged thing, ranged weapon proficiency isn't something she's picked up either. while the men who attacked them didn't use it, the "boss" of the group was carrying a gun & jangmi believes that the intense fear she developed of them following her nde is somewhat, if not entirely, responsible for their issues with ranged weapons. jangmi's stamina is also still something of a problem, albeit it doesn't become an issue they truly notice unless they fight a high number of enemies. she's always starving after using it, though, no matter how few or many people she uses her ability on.

(if applicable) cerberus corp…

while not affiliated with cerberus corp, they were approached by them once for recruitment. it was a standard interaction, and her answer was an immediate, and hard, absolutely not. and while jangmi would say there was no real reason as to why they refused the offer, many factors played a part. the biggest reasons being:

1. their absolute hatred for being told what to do. 2. being a vigilante allows her to toe the line between hero & villain, acting on the innate "good" and "bad" that exists in everyone; which also brings about a sense of freedom. 3. their occasional moments of pure, unfiltered rage.

codename…

her codename is aura and it was something they chose themself. while it doesn't directly relate to their ability per se, it's something they're quite fond of. it's the name of a minor deity in greek & roman mythology which means breeze. aura was also described as "as fast as the wind" and something jangmi has always enjoyed is hearing the sound of their fists cutting through the air, so they thought it fit well.

003. EXTRA

--- as i mentioned, their power has a strong emphasis on close quarter combat, hand-to-hand / mixed martial arts being her specialty, but they began training with melees a few years ago. within the last few months, jangmi has finally begun to trust them as an extension of her body and now she's known to carry some with her, they're usually sais or batons as she prefers things that are dull considering they're only things she uses to better pinpoint certain pressure points rather than being things she uses as "weapons". --- and i know what ur thinking.. why didn't i give her a power that was strictly something hand-to-hand / close quarters related and that's bc i imagine them to be capable of all combat specialism, through the proper training ofc, and like the idea of that mental road block they have thx to trauma being the reason why she hasn't tapped into that at all & isn't even aware it's a thing they could master with ease. --- i imagine aura wears something like this ( visual ) whenever she's doing her vigilante stuff, which is just something very sleek, black, and tight fit with a hood and mask that gives her both the ability to move freely and the power of anonymity. she also has a holster on each thigh which hold those aforementioned melees. --- speaking of vigilante stuff, jangmi primarily uses their powers to protect all women, but they'll always protect whoever they think is deserving, too. also, her inability to not see red and go overboard sometimes is exactly why she could never be a hero :/// --- personality wise, jangmi is very soft, warm hearted, empathetic, sentimental, hopeless romantic, etc etc., which is how she was prior to her nde.. but since that attack, they've got what seems like a permanent resting bitch face & finds it very difficult to trust people or let them in. she's also something of an introverted loner, but if you're able to break through her walls, you won't find anyone more loving and loyal. --- as for first impressions, they can either come off as timid & shy or rude & prickly. it all depends on how they're feeling and how they're approached. ( but again.. real big soft gooey marshmallow in reality ). --- their signature scent is fragrance 05's spring. the top notes are bergamot, cardamom, & star anise; heart notes are geranium, incense, & lavender; base notes are moss, patchouli, & vetiver. --- preferred method of transportation is her matte black kawasaki ninja 300, which looks something like this ( visual ). --- as for their sentimental item ( a vintage photo of a stranger ), it was gifted to them by their mother and was used as a way of curbing the fear they felt at night as a youngin. the two would often look at the photo and share fictional stories about the girl's life, what she might have been doing before the photo was taken & after, what her family was like, etc., and they'd do so until jangmi slipped into a comfortable slumber, so it's the only thing they keep in their wallet like a family photo. [ also if u know what drama i used as inspo for this............... lets be besties pls thx <3 ]

Before long they were seated at the table ready for dinner. The nerves were already getting to Mimi about their announcement, but before they could work up to it, Mel decided to beat them to the punch. "Quiet everyone," Mel said, "Meems told me they have something to announce."

"Mom!"

"Don't 'Mom' me! I'm not good at the waiting game. I wanna know and I wanna now. So, go ahead and take the floor, sweetie."

"Ugh," Mimi sighed, "OK, fine. Well, as you all know Evie and I counselored at camp, but while we were there I had a realization."

As they were recounting it, they couldn't help but feel twinges of guilt from what precipitated the realization. They wish they had more time to soften the storytelling, for Evie's sake, but they continued on.

"So the thing is, Mom, Saunders, I'm transgender."

It was quiet a bit after that, with only the sound of Journee scraping her plate as she decided to dig in before anyone else.

"Well, aren't you gonna say anything?" Mimi looked up apprehensively.

"Oh, um congrats? Err no, we should ask for a pronoun update shouldn't we, honey?"

"That's it?"

"Sweetheart, we're happy for you." Mel smiled.

"Your mother is right," Saunders chimed in, "We both just want the best for you. If figuring this out makes you happy, we're both happy for you and we support you."

"No. Maybe more surprised?"

"Truth be told, the older you've gotten the more you've been leaning masc, so it makes sense to me."

"Oh, um, I guess I wanna transition to he/him pronouns permanently, but for now you can still use they/them till it feels comfortable. As for name, I guess I haven't thought of that yet." His thoughts drifted to Evie, and he realized they hadn't talked about this yet.

He had been so focused on fixing everything between them, well, he just didn't wanna rock the boat too hard before they were good again.

Mel could sense his conflict and said "Well, I'm sure you'll figure it out. It's a big deal. I'm proud of how far you've come, kid."

"Thanks, Mom." Mimi smiled. He knew he could always count on his mom to always accept him for however he was and whoever he chose to love, and he'd never stop being thankful for that.

But now that she had put it on his radar, Mimi couldn't stop thinking about the future.

I was looking up stuff and found this article about gender-neutral language is developing. I found this because I was looking for arab ace things.

For queer and feminist communities in the Middle East, the fight to gain acceptance in society has come in tandem with another conversation: how to define words like gay, bisexual and transgender in Arabic. Some people default to a transliteration of the English words in LGBTQ, others prefer the phrase “mujtama’a al meem” (مجتمع الميم) — or the meem community — a reference to the m-sounding Arabic letter that starts off these terms when translated into Arabic. After years of efforts led by activists in Lebanon, the word “mithly” (مثلي) and “mithliya” (مثلية) for gay is now standard for many media.

Anyways thought that was interesting to see the debate between the use of English and the active disuse of it. The article goes over more cultures as well.
