this is why prenups are important because you have to leave her. she's not an adult. she's a child in an adult body who wants this guy to just be a walking, talking atm machine with a dick. she's clearly contributing nothing but wants him to work himself to death so that she can have a social media worthy life. this is why men need to continue asking "what does she bring to the table?" or they will find themselves in this situation.

Note
I think Terry Silver's the type of man who puts together a prenuptial agreement, but it isn't at all what prenuptial agreements usually are, aka, him protecting his wealth and assets, even if only for formality's sake. That doesn't even cross his mind here. No. Instead, the fine print carefully researched by him and his team of lawyers for any imaginable hole in the law has beloved quite literally signing off their freedom to him, while pretending this is nothing more than routine. Routinely paperwork routinely signed. There's no need for him to protect his assets if divorce or ever leaving him is a legal impossibility enforced on paper. You belong to him in every sense now.
That is the most delightfully evil thing I've ever read.

Top Reasons to Hire Prenuptial Agreement Attorneys in Philadelphia
Prenuptial agreements, also known as prenups, are legal agreements between two people planning to marry. A prenup outlines how assets and debts will be divided in the event of a divorce, and it can also address issues such as spousal support and property rights. Prenups can be a helpful tool for protecting your financial interests and providing peace of mind.
Tumblr media
Here are some reasons why you might consider getting a prenup:
Protecting assets: A prenup can outline how assets will be divided in the event of a divorce, which can protect individual assets such as businesses, property, and inheritance.
Debt protection: A prenup can also specify how debts will be divided, which can be especially important if one partner has significant debt.
Spousal support: A prenup can establish spousal support or waive it altogether, which can be helpful for those who want to avoid disputes over support payments in the event of a divorce.
Property rights: A prenup can also clarify property rights for assets acquired during the marriage, which can be helpful in situations where one partner contributes more financially to the marriage than the other.
Why Hire Prenuptial Agreement Attorneys
Prenuptial agreements can be complex legal documents, and it's essential to work with an attorney specializing in family law to ensure that your prenup is legally binding and enforceable. Here are some of the roles that a prenuptial agreements attorney can play:
They have expertise in family law and understand the legal requirements for prenups in your state. They can ensure that your prenup meets those requirements and is legally binding.
Prenuptial agreement attorneys in Philadelphia can help prevent disputes in a divorce by ensuring that the prenup is transparent, enforceable, and fair to both parties. In the long run, this can save time, money, and emotional stress.
An experienced lawyer can draft a prenup tailored to your specific needs that meets your state's legal requirements.
You can be certain that your prenup protects your rights and interests during a divorce with a good attorney who can help negotiate fair terms and ensure the agreement is legally enforceable.
Be sure to hire an experienced family law attorney in your local area who is knowledgeable and has experience handling family law in Pennsylvania.

Why You Should Hire a Child Support Lawyer
If your ex-spouse or partner isn't paying enough child support, you should hire a Child Support Lawyer. Without a lawyer, you may be subjected to garnishments, license suspension, and other problems. These issues can interfere with employment and housing opportunities, and can affect your credit rating. A Child Support Lawyer will help you understand your options in child support matters and negotiate the best settlement possible. You might be able to get relief from your child support obligation if your ex is unemployed or has reduced income.
If you want your child's best interest to be protected, it's important to know more about child custody laws and how the child support formula works. Understanding what type of child custody and visitation you will receive will help you calculate how much you'll need to pay for your child's education and necessities. Also, it's important not to miss court hearings and mediation sessions. This is when a Child Support Lawyer comes in handy.
Having a Child Support Lawyer on your side is a great way to avoid dealing with the other parent. The attorney will make sure your child receives the money in a timely fashion. In many states, you can also work out a child custody agreement through mediation. Once you've finalized a custody and support agreement, an attorney will help you enforce the order. The court will then make the agreement official and the noncustodial parent can start paying support.

prenuptial (2) ✩ kylian mbappé
summary: you and kylian are getting married and the subject of the prenuptial agreement comes into play, but kylian is not so sure about this.
Tumblr media
[part 1]
"Your mother has scheduled it for 9:30 tomorrow morning, okay?" You run your hand in a light caress over Kylian's head.
Confusion takes over Kylian's expression. "Hm? What?"
"Stop tripping and pay attention to the things I tell you." You let out a playful chuckle as you pout. "The prenup. We're signing it tomorrow."
Kylian bites his lower lip lightly and tries not to let it show, but he has so much to tell you right now. He doesn't quite know what to do and feels he needs to get it out of his head.
A warning immediately pops into his head to try to get this worry out of his mind and he mentally marks of thinking more about it and having an exact way to talk to you about everything that has been haunting his mind.
"Yeah, sure." Kylian's half-forced smile leaves you confused and you move closer to leave a light caress on his face.
"What? You've been scattered since we talked about this." Your frown frowns, you really can't understand what is going on in Kylian's head. "If it's about me being upset, relax, Kylian. I told you, it's more than fine with me."
Kylian lets out a frustrated sigh. "No, love. It's not that, it's just..." He runs his hand across his face. It's crazy how the frustration of not knowing what to say to you hits him like an avalanche. "I don't know."
"Don't dwell on it too much." You hold his hands to try to pass on a little more confidence about the situation. "It's going to be okay, it's material things and that's not important to me."
You know it's not easy for Kylian, you understand how he must be feeling and you don't blame him for having this relapse of "fear." But, nothing will be able to bring that feeling of upset upon you because of this arrangement.
For Kylian, there already comes the issue that you have shared years of your life with him and he has shared years of his life with you. You were and are present in his life every day, giving your immeasurable support and your constant consolation, always finding ways to make him feel better when he loses a game or always celebrating when he brings a world cup to his country.
It's just a form of gratitude. You deserve it too, you deserve the money that comes along with it.
"It's all right, love. Just a worry I need to put out of my mind." Kylian smiles weakly as he pulls you into a hug. "I love you. Immeasurably."
The whisper of an "I love you" that comes out of his lips makes Kylian's heart expand with so much love and you can only concentrate on hugging him tighter and tighter.
You spend the entire morning together, doing your daily chores and some leisure activities all together to try to make up for the homesickness that hits you when you go through a busy work week.
At night, Kylian takes advantage of your tiredness and takes care to go to another room when he sees that you have fallen asleep. He really feels lost and doesn't quite know how to rearrange his thoughts, so it's inevitable when he hits the button to call his mother.
"Kylian?" Fayza's voice is heard along with the sound of some voices in the background of the call. "Y a-t-il un problème?” (Is there a problem?)
Kylian frowns. "Bonjour, maman. Tu es occupée?” (Hi, mom. Are you busy?)
"Non, ce sont juste des amis d'Ethan qui sont venus aujourd'hui. (No, it's just some of Ethan's friends who came over today.)” She lets out a giggle and Kylian hears a few footsteps until they stop. “Qu'est-ce qu'il y a? Tu n'es pas du genre à appeler beaucoup à cette heure-ci. Il s'est passé quelque chose?” (What's up? You're not one to call much at this hour. Did something happen?)
Kylian's thumb rests on his lips and he tries to resist the urge to bite his fingernail from so much anxiety. There are so many thoughts and feelings that he can't control himself.
"Que faites-vous quand vous avez l'impression qu'une chose est juste, mais que trop de gens vous en font douter?” (What do you do when you feel like one thing is right, but too many people make you doubt it?) He fires off the question, without even giving him a chance to assimilate.
"Hm...right." Fayza gasps, and the confusion is palpable in her voice. "Je te dirais de suivre ton cœur et ton intuition, je sais que ça fait cliché, mais ils savent déjà ce que tu veux vraiment. Tout le reste est secondaire.” (I would tell you to follow what your heart and intuition say, I know that sounds cliché, but they already know what you really want. Everything else is secondary.)
Kylian shakes his head positively and for a moment forgets that his mother cannot see him. "Mais pourquoi? Tu ne vas pas me dire ce qui te passe par la tête?” (But why? Aren't you going to tell me what's going through your mind?)
"Tu le sauras demain, maman. Merci pour le conseil.” (You'll find out tomorrow, Mom. Thanks for the advice.)
Kylian says goodbye to Fayza briefly, and in his heart it is clearly imprinted that he is going to follow the script the way he always wanted.
Soon, he goes to bed and when morning comes, he is awakened by her sudden movement around the room. When you see Kylian with his eyes ajar, you smile and approach the bed to caress his face lightly.
"Hey, love. Get up, it’s almost 9:00." Kylian purrs at the cuddling you do and tries not to fall asleep again, but suddenly he sits up in bed and leaves a light kiss on your lips, then gets up to get ready.
He wants to end this situation as soon as possible and let peace reign in his mind.
One minute he is getting ready and the next you are in front of the place to sign the whole agreement.
Kylian can't hide his anxiety and you can only get more and more confused, not knowing what to do to get any insecurity out of his head.
With his leg shaking and the pen in his hands, Kylian can't hold it in. "I don't want to do that."
You and Fayza stare at each other in confusion as Kylian drops the pen on top of the paper. "I don't want to sign that paper."
Fayza directs her gaze at him and as a mother, attends to the way he seems totally sincere about it. "What do you mean by that, Kylian?"
"Kylian stop fooling around, just sign it." You let out a nervous laugh and poke at his leg with your foot. The fear of Fayza thinking you influenced this scares you a little.
"No, I don't want to. You fought for that money too and when we get married I want you to have the peace of mind that my money is yours too." Kylian takes a stand and lays out everything that has been troubling his mind these days. "Mom, she is everything to me. When I told you that night that I was going to marry her. I meant that I want to 100% commit and share everything of myself with her. I mean it in the emotional and financial sense."
Fayza shakes her head as she faces Kylian. "I know you and my father have given everything for me, but I don't want to sign this and feel bad for not giving the trust of something I am most sure of in this world." Kylian directs his gaze to you. "I know that you and I are forever, okay? I know that. But, if something goes wrong, I want to make sure that you will have a life full of tranquility and without having to kill yourself for it."
After Kylian speaks all that has tormented him, you have your eyes watering and Fayza a little smile on her face.
"Fine by me." Fayza's reaction makes Kylian's eyes widen and you are surprised too. He thought it would be a little difficult to convince her. "I'm sure you two are forever, you're made for each other."
Kylian shakes his head positively and tries to hold back a smile, but turns to you and holds your hands. "Ky, are you sure?"
The uncertainty in your voice makes his heart hook. "That is the second most certain thing I am in life, my love."
"Second?" Confusion hits all sides of your mind and your face can't hide the expression. "What would be the first?"
"That I want to spend the rest of my life by your side."

Never date for love. Always marry for money.
This mentality sounds extreme without context. But when you consider this mindset reframe and internalize it, your entire outlook shifts. Date for experiences and to learn about other people. Go into these interactions with a desire to get to know the other person. Converse as your authentic self. Evaluate whether you like them and if you desire to see them again (you always have the option to part ways or mutually agree to a fun one-night stand).
In a committed relationship, it's important to date someone you love and are compatible with (not only sexually and emotionally, but in life – ensure you have similar values and lifestyles that mesh well together). Don't self-sacrifice. However, when it comes to a binding agreement like marriage, ensure that this type of entanglement will only benefit you from a legal and financial standpoint. Have an iron-clad prenup if you desire to commit with a piece of paper. (Standards should be even higher if you plan on having children with this partner).
Ultimately, when it comes to relationships, remember that partnership is supposed to amplify your existing happiness and way of life. You are not defined by your relationship status, but by your level of personal fulfillment, success, and happiness. Don't settle for anything less.

The next day came around pretty fast, Y/N had already had the lawyers draw up the papers, not wanting to draw the divorce out any longer than it needed to.
"So, we're doing it here?" Wanda questioned as she sat on the sofa as Y/N stood before the mantel, looking over the pictures of the four of them.
"Yeah, I figured it won't be long." They told her honestly, picking up the picture of the two of them stood outside of Tony's cabin. "I love this photo, I always thought you were stunning even of you hated the wind in your hair."
"What are you doing?" Wanda snapped as Y/N put the picture back in it's place.
"I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable. That was never my intention." They told her just as the doorbell rang, Wanda just huffed as she got up to answer it. Allowing the divorce lawyer inside as the three soon moved to the dining table. Both Wanda and Y/N sat opposite each other.
"So, what is the reason for this divorce, is it infidelity?" The lawyer questioned as the two shook their heads no.
"I guess we just drifted apart." Y/N told them as they looked away from Wanda. Wanda hummed in agreement as the lawyer sighed.
"We won't be able to get this divorce finalised as fast as you both would like." He told the two as he placed his pen down. "You will need to be separated for at least 6 months before a divorce can be filed. Even then it's a trial separation and marriage counselling is advised."
Both Y/N and Wanda shared a look before Wanda looked away, leaving Y/N with the talking.
"I don't think that counselling is an option." Y/N told him. "This decision by the two of us is set in stone."
"So it will be a trial separation, then in 6 months we can revisit the divorce. If that is what you both really want." He said as the two nodded. "I understand you both have a prenup and you have children, yes?"
"Yes." Wanda answered. "We are going to split the custody."
"And I am moving out so Wanda and the boys have the house." They spoke up. "Also I am still going to be paying for the boys, providing for them. Whatever they need."
"I do suggest going through the court for the child support, just incase of unforseen circumstances." He told the two.
"You mean like if I don't pay it one month?" Y/N questioned, Wanda could see that they were getting irritated by the insinuation.
"Y/N isn't like that, they never ever let the boys down." Wanda defended them. "This marriage is ending, not because we don't love each other."
"But because I haven't really had the time to split between work, Wanda and the boys." Y/N admitted as they looked at Wanda. "And I can't make a promise of something that isn't really in my control as I do travel for work sometimes, and Wanda deserves more than what I can give her." Y/N looked at the lawyer as Wanda's gaze remained on her soon to be ex. "We're going to co-parent the boys and Wanda has my schedule and she will get any changes made to it too." Y/N informed them both. "I have also just made appointment to sign a lease at an apartment nearby."
"What about belongings?" He questioned as Y/N sat up straight.
"I already took everything of my own." They told him.
"You only took your clothes." Wanda told them as Y/N nodded.
"I did take everything of my own." They repeated. "All of the furniture and electrical gadgets are all yours and the twins, I won't take anything more than what I already have."
"Ok." The lawyer hummed. "It seems you have everything under control with this separation." He packed away his papers before bidding the two good luck.
"So." Wanda started as Y/N stood up, pushing their chair back in it's place.
"I best be off." They told her. "I've got these reports from last week that areway behind."
"Ok." Wanda whispered. "Do you maybe want to have dinner tonight? I'm sure the twins would love to see you." Y/N inhaled shakily as they looked at the woman who will always have their heart.
"Yeah." They nodded. "I'll be here at the usual time."
"Thank you." Wanda told them as she walked them to the door.
"Why don't you open a book shop." Y/N suggested as Wanda looked taken aback. "It was always a dream you had and you have more than enough money in your account to do it."
"I don't know the first thing about running a business." Wanda admitted as Y/N gave her a tender smile.
"The community college has a business course that you could do." They told her. "You could learn everything you need to."
"But I have the twins." Wanda told them.
"I can always have them on the nights you have classes." They told her honestly. "I know you can do this Wanda so please just, make your dream come true. Do it for yourself."
"You really think I can do it?" She whispered as Y/N just nodded.
"I know you can." With that, they left her as she watched them drive away from the house. She started to wonder amidst all of the separation, she forgot about the dream she had before the twins were even a thought. Maybe because when she had that dream, Y/N would be by her side as she opened.
Once Y/N had finally made into the office, Tony greeted them as he dragged them into his own office. Gesturing for them to take a seat as he closed the door.
"I hear that you are having some trouble at home." He stated as Y/N sighed.
"Wanda and I are going through a separation." They stated calmly.
"So that's the reason for the recent splurge in absences." He stated as Y/N nodded.
"I've had to move out and well, I have an appointment for an apartment near the house so I am still there for the twins." They rambled as Tony held his hand up for them to stop.
"I understand Y/N but we can't be behind on weekly reports. It's not a good sight, especially on me." Tony told them. "Maybe you should step down from your senior position."
"No. I don't need to." Y/N told him. "I only have one appointment left and then the rest I am going to be doing in my own time. It's just this is hard right now and well."
"Maybe you should take a sebatical?" He suggested as Y/N shook their head no.
"That isn't an option." They stated. "I can assure you that this will not happen again Mr Stark. I just have a small appointment this week which I can take out of my lunch break. It's just signing a lease and picking up the keys for my new place."
"I am trusting your word Y/N." He told them sternly as Y/N thanked him before heading back to their own office to get to work. Time passed fairly quickly as they sent the late reports of and started on the new. They had also completely lost track of time, so they soon raced to the house just in time for dinner to be served.
"O'PA!!!" The twins yelled once they entered the house.
"Hey boys." They beamed as they hugged the twins, kissing the top of their heads before seeing Wanda stood in the doorway. "I'm sorry I'm late."
"You're here, that's all that matters." Wanda stated indifferently. Although the sight of the three of them made her heart swell, she still felt the heartbreak that this is only brief.
The two listened as Tommy was telling them about an upcoming game he has this weekend to which both Y/N and Wanda stated they wouldn't miss it. That was something that Wanda could trust with Y/N, they never missed a chance to cheer on the boys.
"When's the decathlon meet?" Y/N asked Billy who smiled shyly, something he gets from his mom.
"In 4 months." He told them. "We're just studying for the possible subjects and questions we could be asked."
"That's awesome Billy." Wanda beamed at him.
"Be sure to save me a ticket for it." Y/N told him as he just nodded. Once dinner was over, the boys had disappeared to do their homework as Y/N helped Wanda clean.
"You don't have to do this." Wanda told them.
"I know." They said as they put the dishes away. "I guess I, never mind." Wanda turned to face them, seeing them troubled was something she never liked to see.
"Are you ok?" She asked them as they gave her a tight lipped smile.
"Yeah, I'm fine." They told her, although she didn't buy it. "I guess I am going to go."
"Yeah." Wanda nodded as she watched Y/N disappear to say goodbye to the twins before Wanda met them at the door. "Be careful." She told them as they nodded, already making their way back to the office to get up to date on the work that has been piling up on their desk. Their head in their hands as they let the tears slip through, wiping them away faster than they would fall.

strollonso + marriage proposal.
Genuinely, thank you so much for sending this, it is such a simple request, and yet the idea of them married has now fully consumed me.
Warnings: NSFW, they are fucking nasty style.
The thing about them is that they’ve never been normal. Not when Fernando kissed Lance for the first time post Bahrain, all sweaty and roaming hands, crowding Lance against the door of his hotel room and then standing before his father the next day saying Lance was already like family. Not when Lance went down on him for the first time, choking himself on Fernando’s cock while the man sat on the phone with his engineer discussing set-up of his car. Normal was not something that came to them easily, Lance supposed their proposal wouldn’t be any different.
He just hadn’t expected Fernando to ask him right as he was bottoming out.
Right as Lance was muffling a moan into his pillow and gripping the plush material in his hands with white knuckles.
“Marry me,” Fernando grunts, and Lance hardly hears him over the blood rushing through his ears.
He moans as Fernando thrusts with practiced ease.
“Yes or no?”
Lance cannot even follow the question. He’s too busy thinking of how Fernando’s cock feels inside him, too busy arching and pushing back for more. Fernando gives it to him, leans forward so he can rest a hand on the mattress next to Lance’s face pushed into the pillow, his other hand gripping Lance’s hip tight enough to bruise.
When Fernando begins thrusting at a brutal pace Lance lets him. He lets punched out noises fall from his lips and tangle in the sweat soaked sheets beneath them.
When he comes, it’s with the shape of Fernando’s name in his mouth.
"You did not answer,” Fernando muses afterward. Lance’s head is resting on his bare chest, his fingers threading through sweat soaked strands of jet black hair.
“Answer what?” Lance mumbles, fucked out and limp against Fernando – like a sack of potatoes Fernando had once teased, boneless and immovable. He was falling asleep, his voice groggy with the promise of it.
“Marry me,” Fernando says again, a statement instead of a question.
“Later,” Lance grumbles, curling closer to Fernando.
He is rarely the little spoon, what with the size difference between them, but his thigh slots perfectly across Fernando’s hips and his head can rest nicely beneath his chin if he maneuvers enough. He can feel Fernando’s come dripping out of him, his own drying against his stomach, but the need to give into the oblivion of sleep is stronger than the need to shower.
“But yes?” Fernando asks, to which Lance makes a noise that might have been agreement, at least he aims for that.
It’s not romantic, certainly not how Lance thought his proposal would go. For one, he did not think he would be the one proposed to. In his mind there had been an expensive trip to Bali, rose petals in the sand, a girl who he’d get down on one knee for with a prenup and a ring. But the girl never had a face, nothing distinguishable about her other than the dress she wore that would flutter in the breeze and her giggle when Lance slid the expensive rock onto her finger.
This is better, half asleep against his childhood hero with his limbs still aching from how hard the man had drilled him into the mattress. Feeling warm, content, wanted – not just for his trust fund but because he was also really good at sucking dick.
Maybe it was a self-deprecating thought. He didn’t care. He falls asleep like that, with Fernando’s fingers in his hair and wrapped in the scent of him. When he wakes, it’s to the man easing him out of the bed and into the warm bath that waits with steam rising in tendrils from the water. It’s easy to let himself be taken care of, to let Fernando massage the knots from his shoulders and clean the come from his body. Easy in the same way it is to let a nameless driver cart him around Montreal or let the rotating staff dust his frequently empty loft, different in that Fernando presses kisses to his neck, his shoulders, his spine, the crown of his head and tells him how good he was.
Lance rests his cheek against the curve of Fernando’s neck while water is poured down his back, soap lathered into his hair, whispers of praise warm against his ear. Fernando uses his own shampoo, his soap, so that Lance no longer smells of sex but of citrus and sandalwood.
Fernando doesn’t mention marriage again, but he does dress Lance in a pair of his own boxers and eases him into bed with a gentleness that Lance has learned to associate with post-coital bliss.
It’s the sun that wakes him up next, and Fernando’s hand thwacking against his face when the man shifts in his sleep. He smells of Fernando and is wearing clothes are too small for his frame, and it’s familiar. At some point, it became almost normal.
A month later he gives Fernando a ring, a silver band rimmed with a strip of carbon fiber from his own car and his name engraved in Hebrew on the inside. It matches the font that’s inked across his ribs. Hurt a hell of a lot less though and cost him significantly more. His dad’s accountant questions the amount, asks Lance if he bought a new place, and Lance just shrugs it off – says he bought a snowboard or a car or a race track just to see the way the man’s lips press into a thin line as he jots something into the books.
“I’ll marry you,” he says, when he slides the ring in its velvet box to Fernando across the table of the taco place they’re at. It comes to a rest beside the chips and salsa.
Fernando stares. There’s a stray piece of cilantro sticking to the corner of his downturned mouth.
“If, uh, if you still want me to. I’ll marry you.”
“A ring?” Fernando asks, motioning at the box with the overfilled end of the taco in his grip. A stray piece of carne asada falls, plops onto the paper lined basket beneath him.
“Yeah, it’s stupid, but you know-“
“It’s not stupid,” Fernando cuts him off, annoyance lacing his tone as he sets the taco down next to the escaped piece of meat, “Don’t say that. It’s not stupid.”
Lance blushes, ducks his head, stares down at his own untouched taco and the box that Fernando still has not reached for. There’s chip crumbs sticking to the velvet. His dad would have a conniption if he saw, the same way he did when Lance would show up to events in a suit that was too big on him with an untucked button-up peeking out from beneath the oversized fabric. His dad would hate that they were even eating here, which is maybe precisely why Lance had chosen it. Something bold, something his, something that wasn’t stamped with the Stroll name and wrapped in a pretty package.
“It’s not stupid,” Fernando repeats, “But it’s for me?”
Lance feels his palms go clammy, feels suddenly like he is getting hit by a bus. His appetite leaves him with the whoosh of breath from his lungs. They hadn’t talked about it since Fernando proposed the idea when he was balls deep inside him. When Lance was moaning his name into the pillow and choking on his own tears from the pleasure. He feels suddenly stupid, hollow, the same way he feels when reporters ask him why he bottled it into the wall on the easiest part of the circuit with condescension lacing their tone. Like they could do any fucking better.
“You- fuck.”
“Lance?”
“You didn’t mean it did you? Oh, man, uh. I’m- fuck.”
Lance doesn’t cry, at least not in public. He’s become well trained in blinking back tears and biting off the quiver in his voice that gives him away. But he comes close, feels the stinging heat of them building in the corners of his eyes and has to blink violently until his vision clears. Fernando watches him, watches as he fights against the rising tide of not good enough, stupid, never enough that rises inside him suddenly and rapidly and threatens to drown him while he swallows down the bile and sour cream taste that’s building at the back of his throat.
It takes him longer than it should to stop the shaking of his hands.
“Sorry,” he says when the world settles a little beneath his feet, when he doesn’t feel like he’s going to say something spiteful just so he can see Fernando’s expression twist with the same hurt he feels. It wouldn’t work anyway, Lance has thrown nearly every well aimed bullet Fernando’s way and they land, but they never seem to hurt.
“Let’s just- let’s just forget about it, yeah? It was a dumb thing, I don’t even-,” he reaches to grab the ring box but is halted by Fernando’s hand over his own. Fernando’s fingers wrap around his wrist, strong, sturdy, unyielding.
“Stop calling it that. Let me answer, yes?”
Lance nods, braces himself for the inevitable rejection, for the floor falling out feeling and the rush of wind in his ears and the impact of his body against the pavement. It’s not a strange feeling, to be dumped by his hero and hung out to dry, doesn’t hurt any less the second time around though. He just wishes Fernando would be mean about it, the niceties hurt more, he’d rather it just be quick – it’s what he would have expected from the man anyway – a sharp dagger to the side or the bite of a blade against his throat, not the gentle press of the knife sliding between his ribs in some false semblance of mercy.
Fernando brushes his thumb along the inside of his wrist, over his pulse point, parallel to the surgical scars left from his accident. He sometimes gets phantom twinges, the memory of a snapped bone, but nothing now. Now he just feels empty.
“I did not ask you properly,” Fernando explains, sounding, strangely, sad.
“I didn’t answer properly,” Lance counters, nodding to the box that still sits between them, unopened, next to the chips and a bottle of hot sauce like it is another spare condiment. It cost him a quarter of a million, and Lance threw it down like it was the spare jalapeno sauce the waiter had left them.
“I should have,” Fernando presses, exasperated, like he’s frustrated that Lance is not understanding him, “it’s important to me. This. Us.”
Us.
Lance feels like that twelve year-old boy standing in the Ferrari garage when he says, “I don’t understand.”
Like he’s watching the race unfold with noise muffled by the earmuffs over his head and his father’s hand heavy on his shoulder. Like he can see it all, close enough to smell the rubber and the gasoline, but far enough away that it still seems unobtainable. Fernando may as well still be in that car, separated by a screen and Lance’s idolization for all the difference it makes now.
“You want to marry me, yes? Honest. This is- this is you? Your choice?”
“Who’s else would it be?” If Lance has a gun held to his head it’s one that he hasn’t spotted yet, metal pressing against his temple, and he’s somehow mistaken it for a kiss.
Fernando’s lips press into a thin line, the curl of his lips curving further downward.
“I’m sorry, Nando.”
“Stop being sorry. You do not need to be sorry. I am sorry. How I asked, when I did, it was…wrong. I should have waited. I should have asked correctly.”
Fernando’s grip on his wrist tightens, instinctively, enough that Lance winces when it shifts something beneath the skin, and he feels the hint of pain. More of a familiar ghost than anything real. Fernando pulls away anyway, sudden, leans back in his seat and tucks his hands beneath the table like his touch has somehow burned Lance.
Slowly, Lance understands.
“Wait- you- baby did you think I wanted a proposal? Like down on one knee ‘will you marry me’, proposal?”
Fernando arches an eyebrow, “You do not?”
The floor stabilizes slightly, stops feeling like it’s going to fall out beneath him. Lance breathes and when he exhales a laugh accompanies it.
“No, Fer. Fuck no. Please no, actually.”
“But you got me a ring,” Fernando points out, points at the jewelry itself, like rings and proposals must always go hand in hand. Like they’re supposed to be the blushing bride and groom. Like there’s not a seventeen year age difference between them and their first kiss wasn’t accompanied by Fernando spitting the name ‘princess’ into his mouth like it was a slur.
Lance can’t stop laughing.
Fernando still can’t seem to find the joke.
“This is not funny.”
“It’s kind of funny.”
Funny that his boyfriend became his fiancé when he was fucking him so hard Lance probably wouldn’t have even remembered his own name. Funny that he bought a ring before they’d even discussed it when their dicks weren’t out. Funny that Lance mistook Fernando’s chivalry for abandonment. It’s funny in a way that isn’t, and so he can’t help the laughter that bubbles out of him in heaving breaths and spills across the table, the floor, the whole of the crowded restaurant. He knows what he must look like, wide grin and crinkling eyes, and the familiarity of his face nagging at the brains of those who turn to stare at him.
He doesn’t care if they recognize him, or, more realistically, Fernando. He doesn’t care and it’s one of the first times that he thinks it and realizes it’s probably true.
“Stop laughing.”
“I can’t,” Lance wheezes, “We’re both so fucking stupid.”
Fernando rolls his eyes, shifts in his seat, waits until Lance’s laughs fade into breathy little huffs and passes the time by picking at his now cold taco. Lance watches him, watches the twitch of his lips and knows Fernando is biting back laughter too.
Finally, he leans forward on his elbows and says, “I want to marry you. Of course I want to marry you.”
He pushes the ring box further along the table with an index finger, until it’s touching Fernando’s plate. The man looks from the velvet box to Lance’s finger and travels along his arm until there’s nothing between them, but the table and the chips and Lance’s name engraved in Hebrew on a solid gold band.
“Do you want to marry me?”
He doesn’t have to wait for Fernando’s answer, it comes in the darkening of the man’s expression, his pupils blowing wide with want and the way he hooks his foot around Lance’s ankle beneath the table.
“Come with me. I will show you how much I want to marry you, Lance Stroll.”
Three months later, Lance wears a matching gold band, Fernando’s name engraved across the inside and resting warm against his skin. When people ask if he’s married, always as a joke, always assuming the impossibility, he laughs and tells them yes. Fernando wears his on a gold chain tucked beneath his nomex. It is the last thing they take off before getting in their cars, the first thing they put back on when getting out.
“Mine,” Fernando will whisper to him at night, Lance’s fingers pressed to his lips and warm breath ghosting along the ring.
“Yours,” Lance will say when he loops Fernando’s chain around his index finger and pulls until the man comes to him, and there is no separation between them at all.
