Space Riders AU - @onyxonline Eve Ewe - @lavendersartistry
This is a angst/wholesome fic for onyxonline's Space Riders AU! This is mainly centered on the headcanoned friendship between DogDay and my OC Eve Ewe! Please check Onyx out, their work is super cool!
Tumblr media
IN MY LIL GOOBER BRAIN AND MY PARTICIPATION, THEY ARE FRIENDS YOUR HONOR- Now onto the fic✨✨
The gardens of the palace seemed so silent since the last visit of schooling children touring the home of the soon-to-be queen. It was nice to have the planet still lively after the loss of their late royals from the war, despite the princesses going different paths to keep their home afloat.
Eve could only glance back at the throne room from the gardens, resting under the star wisteria as she quietly read. She couldn't get the memories from her head about the war. It felt like only yesterday that it was announced by the council that her coronation would be near.
If only she could have saved-
"Princess? Are you alright?"
Eve suddenly flinched at the sound of someone calling for her and quickly turned her head. She sighed, noticing it was only her friend DogDay.
"I'm alright. And please, we went over this. You can call me Eve or Evie, friends don't have to be formal."
The captain scratched the back of his head in embarrassment and sat next to the princess. To him, it felt like not too long ago when they first met each other. And befriending a princess, a almost queen, felt too much of a dream to the sunshine critter.
"I know, but I can't really help it. You're becoming big top while I'm just a captain. Besides, I don't think the council or your guard would like it if I just called you that."
Eve stifled a laugh and closed her book, leaning her back to the trunk of the tree.
Ever since she was 5, the council was harsh on her. From lady etiquette to lessons on all preparation for becoming queen of her planet, Eve never truly got to enjoy the life of a normal person. To meet friends, to find love.
Just being happy.
"Those old birds would have the stingrays after you if that happened. But don't worry about Bolt, he's just protective."
DogDay rolled his eyes yet smiled at his friend's enthusiasm. He looked up to the stars, suddenly frowning at the forcefield that clouded the clear sight of the twinkling lights.
He knew that it was necessary, after the war. And with the Prototype out creating chaos, it was definitely needed. But he couldn't shake away the feeling from when Bolt informed him about Eve's dream that one night.
It was a vision, a written destiny almost. And the sunny hound couldn't let that fate take away his friend.
"So what were you reading? Seemed a bit uneventful."
Eve looked back at her book and grazed her hand at the leather covering.
The book was about the biology of the planet's most docile creature: Astral Jellyfish. It was a favorite of Eve's and it was a pleasant memory to see a very large one for the first time.
"The astral jellyfish. You know, my favorite creature in all my planet?"
"You mean the one creature that stung me?"
Eve burst out laughing at his comment while DogDay lightly glared at her.
"It's not funny!"
"It's actually a little funny!"
DogDay huffed and crossed his arms in protest to her laughing but he couldn't help but let a little smile appear on his face to see her laugh and be happy for once.
Eve quickly calmed herself and smiled back.
"You should give them another try. Maybe this time, you won't startle it and it'll let you pet it."
The captain groaned again and stood up.
"How long will you remind me of that?"
"Till you're a veteran."
"Great..."
The hound was being sarcastic. As long as something made the princess smile despite the rough times, that was enough for him.
The two kept conversing in the silence in the gardens: talking about the crew's wacky moments during missions, meeting the mysterious "Angel", Eve's stressful schedules, and other things.
Unbeknownst to them, the astral jellyfish had already welcomed themselves in mindlessly. A few rested near Eve while others floated around DogDay and some pestered him.
Eve could only hold back a laugh as the captain tried shooing away the creatures.
"Still not a fan of them?"
"The day I pet them is when I let CatNap drive the ship for a mission."

"oh," sasha frowned, her eyebrows quickly furrowing as she took a sip of her drink. "i'm not sure i like that," she added, as she hesitantly took another sip - this time taking care to examine the contents of the cup. "it's certainly unique," she ultimately concluded, though she remained unsatisified. "would you like to try a sip? you might enjoy it more than me."

Hunger
Joel Miller x Reader
Rating: EXPLICIT 18+
Word count: 2.8k
Summary: on a patrol near Jackson with Joel, you run out of food and have to make do with whatever you can find. Eating the wrong thing makes you both feel… different.
A/N: Here’s another one shot unrelated to Temptation :) I really wanted to write a sex pollen thing with Joel and here it is!!
Warnings: sex pollen/sex poison, smut, dub-con based on the nature of the sex pollen/poison trope, talk about being hungry/eating, unprotected p in v (don’t do this), masturbation, rough sex, angry fucking, being mean to each other, Joel calls you a slut, choking, hair pulling, quick mention of blood/taste of blood, nipple play, spanking with object, anal play, creampie.
Joel Miller Masterlist
****************************************************
“I’m fucking starving.” You sigh, walking alongside Joel in the forest.
You were on day two of a three day patrol route, tonight you’d stay in some cabin in the middle of nowhere. Tomorrow you’d return to Jackson.
“Drink some water. It’ll hold ya over.” Joel sighs back at you. “Or pick some mushrooms.”
You scoff at him. “Very funny.”
“I thought so.” He chuckles quietly.
You roll your eyes, trudging through the humid spring weather. “Are there any edible flowers out here? Shit, I’d eat tree bark at this point.”
Joel shakes his head. “Don’t know much about the plants out here.”
You frown. Until…
“Oh my god.” You gasp and run to a bush you spotted about 10 yards away.
Joel calls after you, using your name to try and get your attention. But it doesn’t work, you were laser focused.
On a tall bush, almost as tall as you, there were berries. Ones that looked… like a raspberry, or a blackberry, but they were orange. You weren’t a hundred percent sure, but, you feel like you remember maybe eating these before.
“Joel!” You wave him over and he walks faster to get to you.
“What?” He sighs, putting a hand on his hip.
“These are edible.” You smile at him, then look at the bush, then back at Joel. “I think.”
He rolls his eyes and begins to walk past you.
“Joel, I know you’re just as hungry as I am. And I swear I remember eating berries just like this before. They should be fine.” You reasoned with him.
He turns back to face you. “Fine. Eat a couple.” He shrugs.
You gulp and stare at the berries for a few seconds before plucking a few and putting them in your mouth. You start to chew and soon scrunch your nose. They’re tart. Not quite sour, but very tart. You couldn’t give a shit at this point.
“They’re good.” You smile at Joel and pull more berries from the bush.
He walks over and picks a berry, bringing it up to his nose to smell it before finally putting it in his mouth. He starts to chew. “These are not good.”
“Quit complaining. It’s food. If those goddamn squirrels hadn’t gotten into your pack that you just left lying around for an hour…”
“You’re the one who fell asleep while you were s’posed to be watchin’ our shit, I was hunting.” He sneers at you.
“That’s because you talk in your sleep and I barely got two hours last night!” You scoff at him.
“Swear to god, if I die by some fuckin’ berries after all the shit I-“
“You’re not gonna die, Joel. Don’t be such a pussy.” You laugh and keep plucking berries and putting them into your mouth.
He sighs and breaks off a small branch, picking a couple more berries and eating them. “Reminds me of pineapple… except, not good.”
You shake your head and keep eating, ignoring his complaining for the next ten minutes while you both gorge yourself on the fruit.
“Should be getting to that safe house in the next hour.” Joel nods at you as you both continue walking, bellies full and satisfied.
A half hour passes and you feel like your skin is too hot. Your clothes are too hot. It was humid, but… it was only maybe 60° out. You shouldn’t be sweating like this.
Joel was on the same page, having taken his light jacket off only ten minutes into continuing your walk to the cabin.
“Joel…” you speak cautiously.
“I don’t feel good either.” He sighs.
“What should we-“ you start.
“Just gotta let the body process it. Or reject it. Whichever comes first.”
You both let out long sighs and keep walking.
15 more minutes and there’s a dull ache in the pit of your stomach. Lower than that, actually. It feels like where your uterus is.
You notice that Joel is breathing heavy, sounding more and more labored.
“Down… uh,” Joel glances at you and then stares for a second. “Down this trail here.” He points to a spot a few yards up where the main road diverts to a slim trail, barely noticeable if you hadn’t been looking for it. It was overgrown.
You nod at him, feeling warmth bloom in your chest and face. You follow him down the trail for a couple minutes when you come across a large fallen tree.
Joel climbs over it easily with his long legs. You? Not so much.
You struggle for a moment as you try and get your footing on a branch start on the side of the log, but you can’t.
“Jesus, give me a fucking hand, will you?” You snap at Joel.
He rolls his eyes and reaches out a hand to help you over the tree.
The second you grab his hand, you feel a jolt of electricity run up your arm and straight to your core. You couldn’t pinpoint what was going on. You felt irritable… angry… but all you could think about after getting over that log, was how Joel’s skin felt against yours.
You approached the cabin just a couple minutes later. You both walk inside and set down your bags before Joel disappears into the bathroom.
You hear the faucet start to run. You’d forgotten this place was connected to water… just didn’t have a working water heater.
You sat down in a recliner in the living room and involuntarily moaned when a spring under the thin recliner padding pressed against your heat through your jeans.
“Fuck.” You breathe.
You wait only ten to fifteen seconds before you figure Joel is gonna be awhile and you stick your hand down your pants. You start rubbing your clit furiously, hoping for some fucking relief before Joel comes back.
You’d go upstairs to the loft style bedroom so at least there would be a delay in Joel catching you like this, but you think rubbing your thighs together while going up stairs would make you cum anyways.
“Fuck it.” You whisper to yourself, dipping two fingers into your cunt. This is probably the wettest you’ve ever been.
In fact, you wouldn’t be surprised if you’d soaked through both your panties and your jeans by now.
You hear a low grunt come from the bathroom over the sound of the faucet and it only spurs you on. Was it because you were horny out of your mind, or did that sound sexual?
A moment later, the faucet turns off and you quickly pull your hand out of your pants and wipe the wetness on the side of the recliner. Just in time too, as Joel walks out of the bathroom a second later.
He spots you on the recliner, leaned back, eyes hooded, legs spread, and something in his face changes.
He looks furious, but… helpless.
You bring your bottom lip between your teeth, the sensation making your whole body tingle. You look Joel up and down, feeling more wetness pool between your legs.
God, you normally didn’t get along great with him, but… you’d kill a hundred men just to have his cock inside you right now.
“Something’s wrong.” Are the first words said in that moment. Spoken by Joel.
“No shit, Sherlock.” You breathe hard, standing up.
“Don’t you fuckin’ mouth off to me.” Joel spits, stepping closer and pointing a finger at you.
You push his finger out of your face, another jolt of electricity moving through you at the skin contact. “What are you gonna do about it, old man?” You seeth.
Joel then grabs you by the throat, pushing you against the nearest wall. You can’t help but whimper at the feeling, looking up at him through your lashes.
“Shut up.” He frowns.
“Make me.” You test him.
His grip on your throat tightens, his other hand moving up to grab the hair on the back of your head. He tilts your face up by pulling down on your hair and you squeeze your thighs together, moaning despite him choking you.
You reach down into your own pants again, needing just a little relief from the searing pain and pleasure coursing through your clit.
Joel whimpers at the sight of you, his face darting down to yours and crushing your lips together.
You growl into his mouth and bite his bottom lip, and then you taste blood. He grunts and pulls back, looking down at the tank top you were in, grabbing the front with both hands and ripping it from top to bottom. You shrug the ripped clothing off, reaching behind yourself to undo your bra as you look up at him.
His eyes are damn near black. Pupils blown as wide as you’ve ever seen. He’s panting and leans down to kiss you again, despite you having bit his lip too hard on the first one.
His hands drift up your hips and over your breasts, quickly stripping you of your bra. He leans down immediately, taking your right nipple into his mouth and biting just enough to get you to squeak out a moan.
“Joel-“ you cry out as his fingers tweak your left nipple.
“What?” He asks harshly.
“Fuck me, goddamnit. Don’t have time for this shit.” You snap back.
“Take your fucking clothes off.” He barks the order as he backs up and starts to unbutton his own shirt.
He watches you with dark eyes as you slip your boots off, then your jeans, then your mostly soaked panties.
By the time he’s got his shirt off, you’re completely naked, staring at the tent in his jeans. You reach down and start to fuck yourself with two of your fingers. Joel undoes his belt and rips it from its loops in one swift motion.
You stare at him with doe eyes as he folds the leather strip in half before grabbing your wrist and pulling your fingers out. He growls and grabs you by the shoulders, moving you to lean over the arm of the couch. Lightning fast, he undoes his zipper and pulls himself out. You don’t even have time to look back when a *crack* fills the room and your ass stings painfully.
“Did I tell you you could do that?” Joel smacks your ass with his belt again.
“I told you to fuck me, already!” You screamed at him, looking back.
“Careful what you wish for.” He growls and lines up, pushing into you in under a second.
“Fuck!” You clench around him involuntarily, hearing his belt buckle hit the ground. This gave you a little relief from having to experience even more pain than you already are; between the whips of the belt and the way Joel is stretching you out.
“You asked for it.” He grunts and starts with fast, rough thrusts.
“Yeah, I know.” You spit the words at him over your shoulder.
“Show me some goddamn respect.” His cock hits the sweet spot inside you as he speaks, making you whimper loudly.
One of his hands is gripping your hip, the other reaching around your front, under your arm, gripping your breast harshly. He was holding onto you for dear life and you couldn’t get enough of it.
You’re hissing through your teeth at almost every thrust as the sound of his hips slapping your ass fills the room.
Joel doesn’t let up, his hands in bruising grips on your body. The hand on your breast moved to the front of your throat, gripping it, slowly cutting off your blood supply. He pulls you up against his chest, the new angle of your hips helping him get deeper as he fucks up into you.
“More!” You shout at him, fingers tapping the back of his hand on your throat.
He tightens his grip on you, you’re starting to see spots when your cunt pulses around him and you squirt your release all over his cock. “Fuck!” You gasp, tears forming in your eyes when Joel finally loosens his grip on your neck and you gasp for air.
You sob a string of curses as your orgasm washes over you, but Joel doesn’t stop. His hips begin to stutter and you know he’s got to be close.
You reach down and fiddle with your clit, wanting to cum again already.
“You’re a freaky thing aren’t you?” Joel asked, replacing your fingers with his own. “Bet you’d let me do anything I wanted. Fuckin’ slut.”
You nod as tears roll down your cheeks.
“Gonna let me cum inside you?? Fill up this tight pussy?” He whispers against the shell of your ear.
“Y- yes!! Fuck, fucking do it!” You grind down against his cock and fingers and suddenly you’re both losing it.
Joel’s fingers and hips stutter as he pumps his load into you, your cunt milking him for all he’s got. He keeps moving until his hips and back start hurting.
His dick is still hard as a rock when he pulls out of you. And there was no end in sight for you, you think you could cum ten more times and not be satisfied. You didn’t know at this point.
Joel moves around you and sits on the couch, cock in hand. His wet strokes are music to your ears as you maneuver yourself into his lap, facing away from him, each of your legs on the outside of his.
You can feel your own slick and his cum mixing together and leaking down to your asshole as you lean back against Joel’s chest.
“Fuck me again.” You pant.
“Shut up.” He spreads his thighs to make yours even further away from each other, reaching around and looking over your shoulder as he pushes two fingers into you.
He collects the wetness and starts rubbing up and down your slit, his thumb repeatedly brushing over your bundle of nerves.
“I told you I don’t have t- time for this, Joel.” You cry as you start to grind up against his hand with each downward movement of it.
“And I told you to shut up.” He growls and bites your earlobe. He can feel you dripping on him and he grabs you by the waist and folds you forward, making you put your hands on the coffee table for balance and support.
He lines himself up and pushes his cock into you, his fingers still covered in your juices moving to the hole that he hasn’t filled yet.
“Oh-“ you breathe, stomach churning with pleasure. “Do it. Fuck, don’t tease me, Joel. I’ll fucking stab you in the leg, I don’t-“ You’re cut off when his middle finger slowly pushes into you, making you gasp.
He starts thrusting himself up into your pussy while his finger worked its way in and out of your tightest hole, your slick and Joel’s cum sufficiently lubing you up.
His finger moved faster as his hips bucked up against yours. You start to roll your hips in rhythm with his and you’re about to cum again.
Joel feels you clench around him and he knows you’re close. He starts fucking you especially hard, loving the way you were bouncing on his cock.
His finger pulls out of you and he grabs your hips with both hands for more force and then you’re screaming his name as you cum hard.
Close behind, Joel groans as he shoots his load into you again. His hands start to loosen on your hips, his dick starting to finally soften inside you. Your anger has faded, your stomach no longer burning with feral need.
Joel pulled you back against his chest again as he came to his senses. “Did I hurt you?” He spoke softly, cock flexing, still in your pussy.
You hum a sigh, tired. “No. I mean… yes. But it didn’t hurt in a way that I didn’t like.”
“Alright.” He wraps his arms around your waist, hands splaying out over your belly.
“This okay?” He asks after a moment, nose tracing circles in the soft spot behind your ear.
“Yeah… I-“ you take a breath. “I think I’ve been wanting to do that for awhile.”
Joel laughs quietly. “You ‘think’? Whaddya mean?”
You shake your head, smacking his arm lightly. “I just didn’t want to admit to myself that I had a crush on you. So I played up the sass a bit.”
“Ahh, okay.” He hums.
“Like you didn’t? You tease me all the fucking time, Joel.”
He nods, breath ghosting over your neck, causing goosebumps to raise there. “And I know you love it.”

I've noticed you've been reblogging delicious dungeon! Thoughts? Comments? I'd love to hear your rambles!
Personally, I enjoy Laioss and consider him a bit of a freak /p. If we're being down bad, I can imagine him just completely enjoying oral sex.
Love Delicious in Dungeon! I read the manga though so I can say things are about to go down with the Red Dragon. But don't worry the show always stays fun despite the crazy shit happening.
And yes Laios would 100% enjoy oral, but also cum eating I think. I gotta write that now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Laios is never too busy with his mouth to comment on the taste of your cum. You thought it odd when you first began dating but now it's kind of endearing.
At first you were scared that he's commenting because you tasted bad. Only to find out that the blonde himbo was addicted to your taste. You are the reason he looks forward to exiting the dungeon.
" Tasting sweet lately. You been eating fruit huh?" He grins from between your legs, his chin and mouth dripping with cum. "Pineapple?" He asked like he was tasting a dish, not eating your pussy. "Or maybe-"
"I didn't do it for you! I just felt like eating some. So don't let it go to your head. Laios!" He still had a big smirk on his face as he bent back down and pushed his tongue in your pussy, intent on drinking every last drop of your cum and leaving nothing behind.
"Thank you for the treat. But you know I always liked your pussy. My favorite thing to eat outside of a dungeon. Or in it really, but that's a bit more difficult." There have been attempts. Not Laios eating you out but taking night watch and letting his big hands wonder, getting to dip a little and then sucking them clean.
Your legs hooked and locked over his shoulders to silence any smart remark he still may have.
His hands cupped your ass like he was holding a bowl, and he used them to tilt your pussy closer to him, his tongue poking, licking, lips kissing and sucking around your clit to get more of your sweet pussy juice on his tongue and mouth.
Though your vision grew fuzzy you could see him grinding his hips, grunting against your clit and thighs, no doubt leaving cum against the pillow under him. Lucky pillow.
But Laios liked, no loved this, so you'll allow him to eat you out, to taste for as long as his heart desires."You better eat your cum out of me later."
Your threat made him moan, which in turn made your eyes roll back from the pressure around your clit. "Gladly." He promised before he got back to his favorite meal.

✷ ALL OF MY WORKS ARE 18+
Tumblr media
A fog of smoke greets you as you walk through the double doors of the hideout, some run down dive bar in the middle of bum fuck nowhere, surrounded by cows and cornfields. You can’t help but grimace as each step you take is met with sticky resistance under the soles of your brand new loafers.
You take a seat at the bar, running your fingers over the skirt of your dress while you wait for the bartender to notice you and while you do, you take in every inch of him; in his black leather jacket, long brown waves and rings galore. He’s not like anything you’d ever seen outside of an MTV music video.
You’d spent your whole life around preppy assholes who thought polos and boat shoes were cool. They’d never be caught dead in that bad boy attire or much less in a sketchy place like this. That thought made your heart race with excitement, you set your sights on him and prayed your sweet charm and flirty banter would work in your favor.
“Uh, what can I get ya, sweetheart?” The smoothness of his voice instantly makes you want to clench your thighs, but you decide against it as your eyes meet his.
“Mmm, got anything sweet?” You ask with a flirty smile, you don’t want to lay it on thick too soon, just little by little for now.
“Sure, I can whip somethin’ up for you.” He says proudly, bending down to grab a whisky glass and a bottle of some fruity liquor. “Sorry, we don’t have anythin’ more fancy, we really only get beer and whisky orders here, if you can believe it.” He says sarcastically as he looks around the smoke filled bar, met with older working men and bikers who were, to no surprise holding an aforementioned beer or whisky.
“It’s fine.” You say, waving off his apology with a small swat to the smoky air. “So… aren’t you a little young to be bartending?” You ask curiously, also as an attempt to keep the conversation flowing.
“Ah, well you’d be right. I’m not quite a bartender yet, more of a bartenders assistant if you will. But…” he looks around with dramatic flare, making you giggle. “She’s not around at the moment, so looks like you’re stuck with me, princess.” The pet name sends a thrilling swoop straight to your stomach.
“Maybe I wanna be stuck with you.” The words are out of your mouth before you have a chance to fully process them and you immediately want nothing more than to swallow them back down. Your face heats up with humiliation when he raises an eyebrow that gets lost somewhere underneath his shaggy bangs.
He doesn’t even acknowledge your little slip up, instead he shakes his head as a smirk forms on his pretty lips, all the while pouring some red liquor and pineapple juice concoction into your glass. You both let the awkward silence flow around you, although the bar is anything but silent.
“So, tell me what ya’ think?” He beams, scooting the half filled glass closer towards you. The silver of his rings glint off of the yellow lighting and you can’t help but want to do some very shameful things to those fingers while he’s wearing those rings.
After the third concoction of his amazing fruity cocktails, you begin feeling that familiar burn in your chest. You’re nowhere near drunk just feeling loose, which was never good for the people around you.
“So, why haven’t I ever seen you around?” The metalhead asks as he takes a seat next to you at the bar, the bartender had since come back and told him he was off the hook for the rest of the night.
“Well, I was on my way to Loch Nora to visit family…but, well I got a flat and pulled into the parking lot and thought why the hell not? I could use a drink before I go see my uptight aunt and asshole cousin.” You ramble, before stopping yourself with another sip of your coconut cocktail.
“Uptight and asshole seems to be the theme in this shit town.” Eddie chuckles as he watches you between sips of his cheap beer.
“Uptight and asshole also seems to be the theme in my family.” You quip back with a small smile.
“Well I don’t know about uptight but asshole is definitely the theme in mine.” He smirks as he playfully pushes into you with his leather clad shoulder.
“Yeah, well you haven’t met assholes until you met the Harringtons.” You say back with a playful push of your own.
“Harrington? As in S-Steve Harrington?” He stammers, turning towards you in his bar stool as his eyes bore into yours, awaiting your answer.
“Oh, so you’re acquainted with king asshole?” A smile radiates across your face that makes Eddie noticeably gulp.
“Y-yeah, I guess you could say that. But, yeesh I think you might have me beat, sweetheart.” His laugh is boisterous and loud over whatever metal song is playing through the old speakers.
“Tell ya what, how bout I call you a tow truck and cab…and uh, these drinks are on the house since you were nice enough to be my taste tester.” The look on his face tells you he’s anything but ready to see you go. So of course, in your loose as a goose but extremely coherent state, you say something you never would’ve just an hour ago.
“Well, since you gave me something to taste, it’s only right if I do the same, no?” You throw in a flirty wink in a desperate plea to stick the landing of your intended innuendo.
What you didn’t realize was that he was in the midst of taking a sip of his beer and once those words slipped past your lips he immediately went into a violent coughing attack, his eyes wide as if in complete and utter disbelief while you swat at his back, trying to help him catch his breath.
Once his coughing died down, his eyes met yours again and the apples of cheeks bloomed a pretty pink, embarrassment clearly overtaking him.
“W-were you serious?” He asks, as if he was contemplating your proposal and that had the thrilling swoop vehemently returning to your stomach but now it traveled down towards your core as you clenched around nothing.
“Very.” Is all you say, but your eyebrow lifts in question before you begin to stand from your barstool.
Your hips sway seductively as you make your way to the dingy bathrooms, a smile overtaking your futures when you hear sneakers squeak behind you. You push the door open and are immediately met with graffiti riddled walls; it’s filthy, disgusting and so fucking thrilling!
You hear the door shut and lock behind you, and when you slowly turn you’re met with those warm brown eyes that you’ve been fawning over all night.
You don’t say another word, instead you take a few calculated steps over towards him before pushing him up against the graffitied door and smashing your lips into his, in an intense and desperate kiss. He moans into your mouth when your tongue sloppily glides against his, the kiss is all consuming and has you weak in the knees.
His lips pull away and you chase them with a whimper that has him smirking down at you with a cock sure grin.
“Up on the counter, princess. I want that taste you promised me.”

If there was one video that was a ‘must do’ for content creators, especially YouTubers, it was disgusting food roulette. The reactions that came with the awful smells and tastes were sure to get tons of engagement and usually go viral as memes. Matt knew this, but that didn’t mean he had to like it. He was so caught up in his own head that he barely comprehended exactly what his brothers were setting out. He was definitely a ‘picky eater’, and not in a typical sense. Matt was a picky eater in that if there was something he only slightly disliked in a food, he would gag and often throw up.
You could see the gears turning in Matt’s head and you blew him a little kiss from out of the camera’s view. Truth be told, you were a bit worried for your boy, especially after seeing things Matt despised like coconut water, pineapple yogurt, and a habanero pepper set out. You knew that he had ‘had’ to do the video in the sense that Nick and Chris would bully him relentlessly if he didn’t, but that didn’t mean you had to like it.
You listened as Nick explained how the app would decide who would eat what food, but all you could focus on was Matt. His anxiety was growing by the second, and it was becoming visible with the way he shuddered and steadied himself with deep breaths. All you wanted to do was scoop your boyfriend up and pepper his face with kisses, but you couldn’t do that while they were filming since it would mean more editing for Nick, so you opted to flash him encouraging smiles instead.
“Let’s begin!” Nick exclaimed happily.
Despite the giddiness in his voice and the way Chris was chuckling and getting Matt in on it, you had a deep feeling in your stomach that this could go horribly wrong.
⋆𐙚₊˚⊹♡
So far, everything had been okay. The boys had been eating disgusting food and hamming their reactions up for the camera, but no one had been sick yet. That is, until they reached the coconut water. You could see Matt’s breathing picking up as he practically prayed not to get the drink. Something about the texture, taste, and smell of it nauseated him.
Things hardly ever went the way he wanted them to, though, so of course he landed on it. Matt picked the carton up anxiously, sniffing it and trying not to gag. “I don’t want to…” his watery little voice was barely audible, but you all heard it.
“You have to!” Chris cheered, unable to read Matt’s worry.
“I don’t wanna.” Matt was practically pouting at this point, stealing glances towards you every few seconds.
“One sip.” Nick promised kindly.
Matt swallowed down the worry building in his chest, lifted the carton to his lips, and took a large swig. Sure enough, he barely choked the liquid down before he was gagging, his face red and eyes watering. “I just threw up a little,” he groaned, tossing the box into the sink. “Fuck that shit.”
Your boyfriend made a great show of pretending to go to the sink, only to sneak around the island and wrap his arms around you. You let him lean into your touch for a moment, running your hands through his smooth, brown hair comfortingly. “You okay, bubba?”
Matt shrugged, already feeling quiet from the near vomiting. “Guess so.” he whispered, quiet enough that the camera wouldn’t catch your conversation.
“Matt, get your ass over here! Stop being a loverboy!” Chris yelled.
“Well, I guess my cover’s blown.” You chuckled.
The fans knew you and Matt were an item, but you tried to stay out of the videos as much as possible, unless the triplets invited you to join. You wanted people to focus on the brothers, not you and Matt.
Your boy moped back around the island to where Nick and Chris were, beginning to start the game again. Everything else went fine for a while, until they came to the habanero pepper. Matt was beginning to grow anxious again, gnawing on his nails. It was an anxious habit, and right now, he was beyond worried as the app picked their fingers, unfortunately choosing him.
“There’s no way.” he groaned.
“The app never lies.” Nick chuckled.
Without a second thought, Matt picked the pepper up, chewing off a hefty bite. The spice didn’t seem to hit him right away. In fact, it was like a delayed reaction. He chewed for a moment while you, Nick, and Chris looked on in shock.
“Oh my god. That’s fucking hot.” Matt yelped, eyes watering and cheeks red.
“Spit it out, Matt!” You practically yelled.
Camera be damned, you maneuvered your way around the island and grabbed Matt by the shoulders, guiding him towards the trash can. Your poor boyfriend was shaking and practically howling, but for some reason, he hadn’t had the idea to spit the pepper out.
“Dude, you gotta spit out!” Even Chris was urgent at this point as he opened up the trash can for Matt.
Once Matt had spit the pepper out, you pushed his hair back from his face, surveying his overly red skin. “Are you okay, baby?”
Matt shook his head, eyes watering and coughing. “Fuck no. What was that?”
“Only one of the spiciest peppers ever, and you ate half of it.” Nick snorted.
You sighed, placing a kiss on your boyfriend’s forehead. If Nick needed to edit out the footage of you and Matt, he could. Right now, all you cared about was whether or not your lover was okay.
“Let’s just finish the video,” Matt groaned, chugging down a bottle of water. “It can’t get any worse than that.”
⋆𐙚₊˚⊹♡
“We aren’t doing that again unless this video hits ten million views.” Chris told the camera.
“Ten million views easily.” You and Nick said in unison.
While Nick made the statement because he didn’t want to eat anything weird again, you said it because you were heavily worried about Matt by this point. He was laying on the floor of the kitchen, whimpering just quietly enough that the camera wouldn’t hear with his blue juice in hand.
“Matt, what was the worst thing you ate?” Chris asked as he stood up.
Rather than responding, Matt let out a wet belch, his red face surprised at the noise that had come out of his own body. “I’m going to bed.” he said, voice cracking as he tried not to cry.
You watched worriedly as Matt retreated to your shared bedroom, Nick and Chris bidding him quiet goodnights. As soon as he was out of earshot and the camera was off, you turned towards two-thirds of the triplets.
“Okay, whose idea was the pepper?” You asked, raising a brow as you grabbed a cold water bottle for Matt, as well as a cold glass of milk.
“...mine…” Chris said meekly, simply because he knew you were pissed off.
“Matt could’ve gotten seriously sick, if he’s not already.” You said firmly.
“Y/N, I’m sorry.” Chris said quickly as he watched you head towards the bedroom.
“Just,” You groaned, running a hand across your face. “Think next time, okay?”
You stopped inside your and Matt’s shared bedroom, looking around sadly. All the lights were off, save for the lamp on the nightstand. Matt was huddled up under a heavy blanket, breathing shakily and sniffling.
“Sweetheart, you okay?” You asked, placing the drinks on the nightstand and kissing his hair.
Matt shook his head, still too anxious from the video to speak. His tongue still felt like it was on fire, which spread the feeling across his whole body. You frowned, sitting down next to your boyfriend and rubbing his back.
“I brought you some milk. That’ll help the spice, hun.” You said gently.
“I’m not drinking milk,” Matt sniffled. He already felt overly nauseous from the disgusting mix of food he had eaten. If he added milk to the storm already brewing in his belly, he was bound to vomit.  “I’ll throw up.”
“I know you don’t want to, and I know it sounds disgusting, but it’ll help the spice,” You reasoned. “Just one sip, baby boy.” You whispered, kissing his forehead.
Matt nodded after a moment of debate, slowly sitting up with a hand on his stomach. “My stomach is burning,” he groaned. “It hurts.”
“I know, baby. I know.” You said sadly, handing him the glass of milk.
Matt took a deep breath and quickly swallowed a sip of milk. He practically gagged, but laid back down, shuddering and whining. He did have to admit though, that the milk had cooled the burning on his tongue. He didn’t feel all the way better, but at least his mouth didn’t feel like it was on fire anymore.
You quickly got ready for bed, curling up beside your boyfriend once you were done. “I’m sorry your tummy hurts, hun.” You snaked your hand across Matt’s waist, softly rubbing his slightly bloated belly.
“I’m never doing that again.” he groaned.
“You don’t have to, angel,” You promised sweetly. “Just relax, honey. The pain will go away soon.”
Matt snuggled into your side, enjoying your embrace for a while until he fell asleep. Nothing took away his pain the way the feeling of your body softly pressed his did. It reminded him that you were always there for him, no matter what.

He was back.
He was back, and to everyone else it was like nothing had even happened—even Nami had forgiven him with relative ease.  The whole crew was acting as if the events of the last week and some change were a complete dream, and he never left.
As if he hadn’t been about to marry someone else.
You were a complete fool, thinking you could capture the heart of a man who constantly flitted from one woman to the next.  No stranger to the art of seduction, he threw himself at almost any woman that crossed his path, and on rare occasions, had gotten lucky when the occasional girl on an island would throw him a bone, but he had done so much to try to assure you his affections for you were genuine.
Neither of you had confessed your true feelings for each other outright other than Sanji's dramatic professions that you would be a fool to take seriously; prior to his departure, you had been trapped in a delicate dance back and forth with each other that had slowly bloomed into something that felt more serious—at least it did to you.  It seemed so silly looking back on it—despite the way that he had toned down his flirtations with other women in order to convince you to fall for him, you should have known it was a matter of time until he went back to his natural habits.  The teasing touches, comfortable silence while doing dishes, and long, emotional talks over a late-night cigarette could only have kept him captivated for so long before moving along to someone else.
Despite the massive headache and heartache the cook was causing, you couldn’t even call him on it right now; after him having been through so much with his biological family, it would be nothing short of cruel to attack him over his wandering eye.  Still, you couldn’t help but hurt tremendously as he served drinks to you and Nami, mask of a smile on his face, without so much as a conversation with you about what had transpired, much less where the two of you stood with each other.  In fact, he seemed to be avoiding you, slipping into the kitchen if he saw you flagging him down on the deck, and contrived some reason to leave if you entered his workspace.
As you suck on your straw deep in thought, refreshing taste of pineapple juice running down your throat, you decide to follow him back into the kitchen.  You could stand him losing interest, but him avoiding anything but basic pleasantries with you was too much for you to handle.
“Ah, hello there, dear!” he says when you enter the kitchen, refusing to meet your eyes and instead feigning interest in a recipe book on the counter.  “I was just about to check on Chopper and Luffy, did you need something?”
Another thinly veiled excuse.  He steals a glance at you, and tenses when he sees you’re not buying it.
“Sanji, you’ve been avoiding me.” you say, voice wavering.  You had intended it to come out far firmer, but your emotions were already getting the best of you before the conversation had even started.
He swallows hard, and turns to look at you.  The silence pounds in your ears at he carefully chooses his words.
“I think we should have this conversation somewhere more private.” he says, sending chills down your spine.  Unable to respond verbally, you nod and follow him to the aquarium bar, which was thankfully empty.  He closes and locks the door, and stands behind the bar across from you; the tabletop separating you felt wider than the ocean you were sailing on.  Despite him being the one to pull you away to talk, he finds it difficult to speak.
“So.  I’ve been avoiding you.” he says, cringing with guilt at vocalizing his intentions.  You remain silent, waiting to hear him out, and the pain in your stare breaks his heart.
“I’ve been avoiding you because I’m no good for you.” he says, staring downward and unable to bear your gaze any longer.  You still don’t speak, forcing him to keep spilling his heart out, an activity that had felt effortless before, and like knives on his tongue now.
“What kind of man leaves the woman he loves to marry someone else?” he asks, hands shaking.
“The kind that wants to protect his friends.” you say, gingerly reaching out to lay your palm on top of his.  He instinctively laces his fingers with yours, and the familiar touch pulls at his heartstrings.
“I did do it to protect you all, you know that, right dear?” he says, almost as if he was trying to convince himself that his betrayal was worth all of the pain it had caused.
“I know, Sanji.” you say, trying in vain to swallow the lump forming in your throat.  “And you were brave for doing it.”
“Not when I’ve hurt you like this—” he insists, tears pricking in his visible eye and grip on your hand tightening.
“Sanji, what’s hurting me is you avoiding me.” you say, interrupting him, and with a firmness to your voice that makes him twitch.  “What’s hurting me is you refusing to even talk to me and acting like everything we had was a dream and leaving me wondering if you ever truly cared about me at all.”  Even though it needed to be said, you immediately feel guilt for saying it as his head falls into his arm and chokes back sobs.
“Of course I care, darling,” he chokes out, “I’m trying to let you go because I care.  I don’t deserve you.  I didn’t deserve you then, and I don’t deserve you now.” he insists, words muffled by his sleeve.  You run your thumb across his hand in an attempt to comfort him, but it only seems to make him more distressed.  His reaction finally gets you to break, and now both of you were sobbing messes.
“Sanji, please don’t let me go.” you plead between gasps for air.  “I’m the one who doesn’t deserve you.  I should have come to you sooner to comfort you instead of letting you try to distance yourself from me.  I should have known better.”
Your gazes meet, red and watery from tears.  Desperately, you search his face for any sign of what his next words will be, but he stays as silent as you had been minutes before.  Just as he had done, you take a shaky breath and decide to continue.
“I love you, Sanji.  I love you with the constancy of the sun rising and the moon falling.  I love you unconditionally.  All I ask is that if you feel the same way, you stay by my side.”
Something changes in the glint of his eye as he’s suddenly stirred to life.  Normally he is the one for poetic, drawn out confessions of love, but you’ve rendered him speechless as he lets go of your hand and slides over the top of the bar—in any moment less dramatic than this you would have laughed—and stands in front of you, spinning you around in your stool to face him.
“I love you, dear.  On this day and every day, and all the days to come, I love you.” he whispers, softly caressing your face before leaning in to seal his confession with a kiss.  It starts out chaste, but quickly turns into something messy, emotional, and passionate.
“Do you have any idea how scared I was?  That I would never get to see your radiant face again and tell you how I felt?” he rasps.
“So was I, Sanji,” you whisper back,  “but I’m so glad I told you now.

A/N: This is a silly little smutty one-shot to celebrate Adrian's birthday (or belated cuz this is technically late whoops). I've written mostly mask-stays-on Vig so far, so I thought it would be fun to try and write a cute birthday boy Adrian piece with a civilian!reader. Best boy deserves some fluff and spice!
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Another evening, another evening shift. You sighed as you wiped down the countertop in the dive bar you were currently working in.
Three months ago you threw a dart at a map (okay, a GPS pin drop on your phone but whatever). You ended up dragging your tired and burnt-out self far away from your shitty hometown to Evergreen, Washington for a fresh start. Unfortunately, so far Evergreen was just as shitty as your hometown, albeit with a different landscape view.
You got the first job that accepted your application and now worked at a mediocre at best local bar downtown. It paid enough to live and your new apartment was nearby. You weren't sure how you felt about Evergreen yet but at least it was different.
"Hey, can we open up a tab?"
You snapped out of your thoughts at the sound of a customer and looked up at the impossibly large man in front of you. He looked like a marine and you wondered if there was a military base nearby. You shot him your best customer-service smile.
"Sure, I just need some ID and your card."
The man pulled out his wallet and handed over his license and credit card with the name Christopher Smith. You jotted down his info and handed it back.
"There you go, Chris. What can I get for you?"
"Five beers for the table." He gestured behind him at a booth across the room with four other people sitting down.
"And hey, can you make something special for my buddy?" He pointed out a brunette man with silver-rimmed glasses. "It's his birthday."
You nodded, this happened all the time with people out to celebrate.
"Sure. Does he like pineapple?"
Chris gave you a blank look. "I have no idea."
You filled a tall glass with ice, then poured in vodka, blue curaçao and pineapple juice. Grabbing a slice of pineapple chunk from the garnish bar, you hung it just right on the side of the glass then spun around, tossed a straw in and presented the bright-coloured drink.
"There you go! I hope he likes it."
Chris squinted at the teal cocktail and snorted before picking up the tray.
"He's gonna love it, thanks."
You watched carefully as the large man carried the tray over to the booth and dished out the drinks. He slid the cocktail in front of the cute guy with glasses and then pointed at you. The brunette glanced over at you, then took a sip and looked back up. He gave you a giant dopey grin and a double thumbs up. You returned his smile with a real one, genuinely thrilled he seemed to enjoy your choice.
You watched the group for a little while, there wasn't much else going on in the bar. A few regulars playing pool, what looked like a terrible date in the back corner and the full booth you were staring at were the only patrons tonight.
The group you were watching was new here, at least you didn't recognize them from the few months you'd been working the evening shift. You wondered how they knew each other, daydreaming about customers was a way to pass the time on slow nights like this. You watched them laugh and drink until another customer called your attention and you were forced to spend some time actually doing your job.
When you made your way back across the bar, Chris was leaning on the bar. You put down the empty glass in your hands and addressed him.
"Another round of beers for you guys?"
He nodded at you. "Yeah, thanks." He waited impatiently for you to open them and place them on the tray. "Also I should tell you my friend-" he jerked his head back at the guy with glasses sitting at the booth behind him. "-thinks you're really cute."
You raise an eyebrow at him. "Oh really?"
Chris nodded.
"Well if that's true, he can come tell me himself." You slid the tray towards him and then spun off to the other end of the bar where a patron was flagging you down.
You watched out of the corner of your eye as Chris went back to the booth and handed out the beers before whispering to the cute guy in glasses. The brunette flushed and started arguing with the larger man.
You quickly glanced away when they both turned to look at you and you focused intently on pulling the pint another patron had just ordered instead. Sliding the now-full glass across the bar to the customer, you wiped your hands with a cloth and walked back over to the register to ring it up.
"Hi."
You looked up and the dark-haired guy in glasses was standing right in front of you.
"Hi."
He gave you a little wave and an awkward, crooked smile. "I'm Adrian."
You couldn't help but giggle a bit at how nervous he seemed.
"Hi, Adrian. How'd you like your drink, birthday boy?"
A light blush formed on his cheeks as you grinned at him. He really was cute, especially when he was being so shy.
"Um, it was really good. Could I get another like that?"
You nodded and turned around to grab the ingredients. When you turned back around, Adrian was leaning on the bar watching you intently. You mixed the drink and handed it over to him. He took a big sip from the drink, smiled and fidgeted with the straw while he stared at you for a moment.
"Is that all? Or is there something else you want to say?" You gave him a small wink and a cheeky smile.
The blush returned to his cheeks, a deeper red than before. He coughed awkwardly and fidgeted more, rubbing a hand on the back of his neck.
"I…um."
He couldn't make eye contact as he blurted it out as fast as possible. "I think you're really pretty."
You leaned on the bar, propping yourself up on your elbows as you tilted your face closer to him.
"What a coincidence, I think you're really pretty too."
You were doing your best impression of a Cheshire cat, grinning madly at how flustered he was. He was still staring at you with wide eyes and it looked like he was about to say something but the magic of the moment was unfortunately shattered by Chris and one of his friends suddenly approaching the bar.
"Can I get a round of shots? Whiskey."
You nodded and walked back to the bar to pour the shots for him. Adrian looked a little miffed at his friends and you bit back another smile, hoping he would talk to you again later.
You quickly finished pouring the drinks and handed over the five shots on a tray and Chris grabbed it from you.
"Thanks, sweet-cheeks."
The woman next to Chris immediately scolded him. "We've been over this. That is not an okay thing to say!"
He turned towards you with a defensive look. "Can you settle this for us? It's totally about having a nice smile!"
"No, no. She's definitely right," You nodded at the woman in agreement. "That phrase is definitely about saying someone has a nice butt."
"I mean, either way, he's not wrong." Adrian gulped and ducked down to stare into his drink as all three of you whipped around to look at him.
"What was that, buddy?" Chris was looking at him in astonishment.
"Nothing." Adrian shook his head and all but ran back to their booth holding his cocktail, avoiding everyone's eye.
"Sorry about him." The woman apologised to you.
"I don't mind." You shrugged at her. "I think he's sweet."
Chris was giving you an incredulous look. "Him?"
"Yeah, him."
You were given a quick look of resignation by both of them before he walked back to the booth with their drinks.
You tried to keep an eye on the group, especially the adorable one, but a few more regulars came in and you were swept away to serve them. The evening progressed in a flash with back-to-back orders from the new tables. You were finally back at the register when a voice sounded out.
"Hey!"
You looked up and there he was again, the cutie in glasses. You couldn't help but smile.
"Hey, Adrian! What can I get for you?"
He gave you a goofy smile when he heard you say his name. "Another round of shots please?"
"Sure thing!" You made a big show of pouring the shots from high up without splashing and Adrian gave you an appropriately awed look at your bartending skills.
"So hey, maybe we could-" He was cut off by Chris interrupting again, he had stomped over to grab the tray of shots from the counter.
"I said I got it!" Adrian protested.
"You were taking too long." Chris snapped at his friend.
"I was trying to ask her to join us."
"She can't drink with us, dumbass. She's working."
Adrian turned towards you. "Is that true?"
You shrugged apologetically. "Yeah, he's right. It's policy."
His face fell. "Aw, man. That sucks."
As if on cue, your manager walked out from the back and came over to you.
"Hey if you wanna take off in fifteen or so, that's fine. It's a little slow tonight, I can handle close by myself."
You nodded, any excuse to take off early was a good one. Especially such a conveniently timed one.
Adrian perked up at the news. "Wait, you're almost done with your shift?"
"Yeah, I guess I get off early tonight. Lucky me!"
"Does that mean you can drink with me?"
"What about your friends?" You gestured towards the booth where the rest of his group was gathering their things.
"They want to leave soon, but I'll stay if I can buy you a drink." He looked at you with big pleading eyes and you noted how bright and green they were.
You thought about it for a moment. You usually never drank with customers but… maybe a one-time exception wouldn't be too bad? Spending the rest of the evening drinking with a nice stranger who thought you were pretty could be worse.
"Sure, why not?" You smiled at him and winked. "It is your birthday after all."
You finished cleaning up and clocked out. Adrian was waiting for you as you walked out from the back without your apron. His friends were in the process of closing out the tab with your manager and the booth they had been in was mostly empty, save for two shots waiting for you.
You slid onto the cushioned seat and watched as Adrian said goodbye to the others. Chris clapped him on the shoulder and said something low in his ear that made Adrian whip his head up and look at you with an expression you couldn't quite read.
Your attention was pulled away from the interaction as your manager walked over and placed several candy colour shots and two bright teal cocktails down in front of you.
"Uh, thanks?"
The older woman rolled her eyes. "They're from the big guy that's just leaving. Said something about celebrating properly with something sweet?" She gave you a pointed look and walked off as Adrian came back over.
"What are these?"
You shrugged. "Apparently I have some catching up to do."
The next hour or two passed in a blur after you'd downed the shots and were working on the cocktails in order to catch up with Adrian, who had been drinking all night. The conversation got loud, with the two of you ending up arguing passionately about Star Wars, much to the annoyance of the few other patrons nearby. By the time the bar closed, you had definitely caught up and Adrian had sobered up a bit, leaving the both of you still rather tipsy. Your manager shuffled the two of you to the curb and warned you to get home safely.
"Did you have a good night?"
He grinned at you. "I had a great night."
You grinned back, warm and fuzzy from the alcohol.
"So… I'm just headed that way." You pointed in the general direction of your apartment.
He nodded at you but didn't make any movements. You're not exactly sure that you wanted a strange guy to follow you home but you were still slightly disappointed at his lack of response.
You headed down the street you had pointed towards and got about a block away before you realized Adrian was hot on your heels.
"Do you…also live this way?"
He shook his head. "Not at all, but there's no way I'm letting you walk home alone while drunk."
"What? Why not?"
He frowned at you. "You need someone to protect you, it's kind of dangerous for women out here."
"Oh, so I can't protect myself? Just because I'm a girl?" You stopped in your tracks and put your hands on your hips in annoyance, wobbling a little on the sidewalk. Your indignance at his insinuation briefly overshadowed the fact that you kind of wanted him to come home with you.
"Yes? I mean, no! …Kind of? Wait, is that sexist? Fuck." He was scrambling to explain himself and failing miserably.
"You're just as drunk as me, what help are you gonna be?" You poked him in the chest to emphasise your point.
"Okay maybe, but I can still ki-" He cut himself off suddenly and shook his head. "Look, there's safety in numbers! I'm walking with you, end of story." He grabbed your hand that was still poking at him and tugged you further along the path behind him.
"Fine, but you don't even know where you're going!"
"Oh. Right." He sighed, stopped and dropped your hand, looking back at you. "Which way?"
You rolled your eyes but grabbed his hand again and directed him towards a side street in the opposite direction he had been headed.
"Just down here. It's not far so you don't have to waste too much of your time."
"It's not a waste if I'm spending it with you." He muttered, looking everywhere but directly at you.
It was your turn to blush, taken aback by his unexpectedly sweet words. You kept a firm grip on his hand as you approached your apartment building.
You were just nearing the building door when you tripped on an uneven chunk of sidewalk and suddenly you were headed straight for the ground.
You braced yourself for an impact that… never came. Instead, a pair of strong arms shot out, wrapped around your waist and pulled you backwards. Rather than hitting the cold cement, you were now pressed against a very warm and solid chest. You had no idea how but Adrian had managed to save you from a brutal face plant.
You spun around to face him in shock. He loosened his grip to allow you to move but didn't let you out of his arms as he stared down at you with concern etched onto his face.
"Holy shit, are you okay?"
"You caught me." You stared up at him as he held you tight. Have his eyes been this green all night?
"Yeah, of course I did." His nonchalant tone made you giggle again. Of course , he did. You were still staring up at him and he was getting more concerned.
"Are you sure you're okay? You're breathing really heavy."
"Just…don't move." Your voice was low and soft, you were entirely distracted by how shiny his lips looked in the streetlight.
You found yourself leaning in close without even meaning to, swayed by the warmth in your veins flooding from his hands around you. Your hand slipped behind his neck as you rose on your tiptoes, slowly invading his space and getting unbearably close to his face.
You could feel his breath on your face, tinged with the pineapple cocktails he'd been drinking all night. The sweet scent wasn't helping your impulse control and you were so close to those soft, pink lips…
Your eyes flicked up to his, finding those bright green spots behind his silver frames. He caught your gaze and you saw something flash across his eyes. His grip on your arms tightened as his breathing stuttered and he finally closed the gap between you.
He tasted like pineapple with a faint hint of whiskey, a combination you thoroughly enjoyed. A warmth spread through your lips and into your very bones as he pressed into you until you both broke away panting for air.
"Hey, Adrian?" You murmured, still trying to catch your breath from the kiss.
"Yeah?"
"Would…you like to come upstairs?"
He paused for a moment, glancing over at the apartment complex door then down at you, still being held tight in his arms.
"Do you want me to come upstairs?"
You giggled again. You couldn't help it, he was so silly. "Yes, that's why I'm asking."
He swallowed hard and you watched his Adam's apple bob up and down. With your lowered inhibitions and rising temperature, you gave in to temptation and leaned forward to press a soft kiss to his throat. He inhaled sharply, instinctively tugging you closer to him.
"Okay, yeah. Upstairs. We should do that." His breath was shaky as his hands slid down your back to rest on your waist. The warmth from his touch spread through your body and you smiled up at him.
You stepped into the lobby, made your way to the elevators and waited for the doors to open. You hit the number for your floor as Adrian stepped in behind you. When the doors closed, he spun towards you and reached up a hand to gently cup your jaw, before pulling you in for another kiss. You sighed against his lips and wrapped your arms around his neck to bring him in closer. You let out a small moan as he caught your bottom lip between his teeth, slowly getting lost in the kiss and forgetting where you were.
He braced his free hand on the wall beside you and pushed you slowly against it, pressing his entire body into you. You relished in the warmth and didn't want to let him go. He slid his hand from your jaw down to your neck and was reaching under the strap of your top when the elevator doors loudly dinged open.
You squeaked, suddenly very aware of the compromising position you were in. You quickly disentangled yourself from Adrian and tugged on his hand, pulling him into the hall as you both exited the elevator.
"Come on!"
You dragged him by the arm down the hall and around the corner to your apartment door. Fishing out your keys becomes an arduous task as Adrian comes up behind you and wraps his arms around your waist, tugging you back into again.
The keys slipped from your grasp and hit the floor, but you barely even noticed through the haze of Adrian's lips on your neck.
"I didn't want to stop, is this okay?" He whispers in your ear.
You were left breathless as his hand slid further up your hip, under the hem of your shirt. His warm palm ran across your bare stomach and every muscle in your abdomen tensed at the sensation.
"Oh god, yes."
He pressed more kisses along your neck as he ran his fingers along your skin, gently stroking along the waistband of your pants.
"We should-" You can barely get the words out as your body slowly melted under his hands and mouth. "-go inside." You managed to finish your sentence and he pulled away from you. You nearly whined at the loss of his touch but he swiftly grabbed your keys off the ground and turned them into the lock for you.
You had barely let him through the threshold of your apartment before slamming the door and pushing him against it, pulling him down for another kiss.
You made your way through the apartment, not bothering to stop the make-out session to give him a tour. You practically shoved him into your bedroom and pushed him down to sit on the edge of your mattress.
You quickly stripped off your work pants and top, standing in front of him in nothing but a plain black bra and panty set. You had a small smirk on your face as he stared up at you with wide eyes, his gaze running all along your body.
"Your turn."
"Oh, right." He snapped out of his daze and quickly pulled his sweater over his head along with his shirt.
"Oh my god." You didn't mean to say that out loud but how could you not? He was deceptively well-built under his clothes.
You marvelled at the bulk of his chest, shoulders and arms. His impressive muscle definition had been entirely hidden by his cardigan and plain T-shirt, you never would have guessed he was this fit. Your gaze trailed along his well-defined abs and down to the sparse pattern of hair leading past his waistband. You bit your lip at how gorgeous he looked, so strong and solid.
"Do you work out a lot or something?"
He laughed at your stunned comment.
"Something like that, yeah."
You watched him slip open his belt buckle and tug off his jeans, leaving him in nothing but a pair of dark boxers. Before you could stare for even longer, he tugged you onto his lap and pulled you in for another kiss. You moved to straddle him and kissed him back feverishly.
His tongue swiped at your bottom lip and you opened your mouth to let him in. His hands swept over your thighs and up your spine as his tongue explored your mouth. Fiddling with the clasp behind you, he finally managed to undo your bra. You broke the kiss to lean back, tug the straps off your shoulders and fling it somewhere distant in your room.
He took the opportunity to run his hands up your ribs and along the underside of your now-exposed breasts, cupping them gently and making you gasp. You couldn't hold back the whimpers that flew out of your mouth as he brushed his thumbs against your nipples, teasing them into stiff peaks.
He leaned down and took a nipple in his mouth, clicking his tongue against the hard nub. You grabbed the back of his neck, fingers tangling in the dark curls at his nape as you pressed him further into your chest, desperate to keep his mouth on you. His lips travelled across your chest, nipping and sucking at every inch of flesh he found.
Once you'd caught your breath, you gently cupped his jaw with a hand and pulled him up to look into his sparkling eyes.
"So…is there anything you want to do? It is your birthday, you know." You couldn't resist giving him a teasing smile.
The tips of his ears turned pink and he stared up at you with wide eyes.
"Really? Anything?"
You smiled wider at his awestruck expression. "Got something special in mind, birthday boy?"
"Maybe? Could you…um…" The blush slowly crept down his ears and across his cheeks as he stammered.
You gently rolled your hips against him and the tips of his fingers flexed against your soft thighs as he let out a small groan at the movement.
"Just relax. Go ahead and ask me."
He took a deep breath and looked up at you with a serious expression.
"Can you sit on my face? …please."
A jolt surged through you at the request. You took in his eager expression, the pupils in his green eyes blown out with desire. He nervously licked his bottom lip and drew your eyes downwards to his soft, pink mouth.
"That's what you want?"
He nodded vigorously, glasses slipping down his nose at the rapid movement. You laughed a little at his enthusiasm before leaning forward and gently removing his glasses. You folded them and stood up to place them on your nightstand before turning back to him.
"I'm in. How do you want me?"
His tongue flicked out across his bottom lip again, but much more deliberately this time. He sat back on your bed and lay down with his head on the pillows.
"Come here and grab onto the headboard."
A shiver raced down your spine as you looked down at this gorgeous man spread out before you, all yours for the night. You shimmied out of your black undies and knelt on the mattress, climbing up beside him. He slid a hand under your knee and helped you lift it up and over, holding you to hover above him with your legs bracketing his face.
His hands wrapped around your thighs, firmly holding you in place right over his mouth. The first few licks were tentative and light against your dripping core, his tongue cautiously exploring you. He let out a soft moan as your taste hit his taste buds and gripped your thighs harder.
"You taste fantastic." He mumbled into your inner thigh before running his tongue back over your folds.
As his mouth worked over you, you began to gently rock your hips against him, increasing the friction in the most delicious way. Picking up on your cues, he started to increase his pace, lapping at you with more pressure.
You let out a loud gasp when his tongue flicked over your clit, a noise which quickly turned into a low moan as he did it again. And again.
"Right there, oh god ."
You wound your fingers through his dark curls and held him in place, right over the bundle of nerves currently sending shockwaves through your entire body.
You rode the waves along with his face, cresting every time he hit that one sweet spot. You looked down at him, those gorgeous green eyes were glassy with lust as you coat his face with your own desire. God, you needed more of him.
"Hey, hey." You gently tugged on his hair and sat up a bit, moving off his face. "If you let me turn around, I can touch you."
He glanced up at you, the lower half of his face glistening with your juices. "Yeah?"
"Yeah, this is incredibly fun but I'd love to taste you too."
"Fuck, okay." He didn't need much convincing. He braced your thighs and allowed you to swing one leg over, spin around and throw it back, bringing you to face the opposite direction. You settled yourself back over his face before turning your attention in front of you.
You could see how his cock was straining against the fabric of his boxers, begging to be released. You slowly slipped his boxers down and his hard cock snapped against his stomach, thick with tension. He was long and thick, a drop of precum already leaking from the swollen tip. Yeah, this was a good idea. A really good idea.
You wrapped a hand around the base and began to stroke him up and down with gentle pressure. His hips arched up into your grip and a moan vibrated from low in his throat, rippling through your soaked pussy still pressed right against his face.
You found a solid rhythm between rocking against his face and pumping his cock, getting used to his size. When you were confident enough, you leaned down and swirled your tongue around the head.
The salty taste hit the back of your throat as you slowly slid him further and further into your eager mouth. It took some work and concentration but you managed to work all of him down into your throat without gagging. The choked moans he released when your lips hit the base of his cock were well worth the strain.
Any prior concern you had about this position was quickly worn away as you picked up speed, grinding harder against him. Your thighs started to shake and he tightened his grip on you, holding you steady as you started to come undone above him.
You were still bobbing up and down on his cock, your moans being stifled with him deep in your throat. His fingers were pressing bruises into your skin with their grip and he couldn't stop his hips from jerking up, forcing himself deeper into your mouth, chasing his own release.
You were desperately trying to breathe through your nose and not choke as he fucked up into your throat, teetering on the edge of orgasm as he ran the tip of his tongue over your clit again and again.
You braced your hands on his thighs as the rubber band finally snapped, your pussy drenching his face as waves of pleasure crashed over you. You somehow managed to keep your throat open as he thrust up a few more times before spilling down your throat in return. You dutifully swallowed and slowly pulled back, releasing his softening cock.
You rolled your hips off his face and flopped onto the mattress, grateful for the change in position. Your thighs were going to burn tomorrow but god, that was worth it. You rested for a moment, waiting for the last waves of bliss to fade before moving again.
You crawled to the other side of the bed and lay next to him for a little while, lazily enjoying playing with his dark brown curls and counting his freckles as you both recovered from your climaxes.
His hands were idly dragging across your skin, tracing unknown patterns along your thighs and stomach.
"Hey."
You turned to face him and let out a small giggle at the dopey expression on his face.
"Hey."
" …Do you have any condoms?" He wouldn't look you in the eye as he asked.
"Round two already? I'm impressed."
He flushed immediately, turning pink and twitching his fingertips against your hip. Your cheeks were starting to hurt with how much this man made you grin like a maniac. It was so much fun to tease him, to make him blush. He was the cutest thing you'd ever seen.
"Uh, yes? Only if you want to." He quickly reassured you.
You smiled and hopped off the bed to rummage around on your nightstand. Oh, you definitely wanted to. You tossed a foil wrapper at him and climbed back on the mattress. You watched carefully as he sat up on his knees and pumped his rapidly hardening cock in his fist a few times before rolling on the condom.
He rolled over on top of you and nudged your thighs apart to make room. You held your breath with anticipation as he ran his fingers across you, smiling when he found you already wet. He gripped his cock at the base and ever so slowly slid the head against your core. He easily slipped through your folds, gathering the wetness along his cock in preparation.
"Ready?" He looked down at you, waiting for permission.
You cupped his face in your hands, drew him close and looked into his impossibly green eyes.
"Yes."
He leaned down to capture your lips as he lined up his aching cock with your entrance. He pushed inside you, slowly sinking in inch by inch. You felt the burn of the stretch for a moment as he finally bottomed out, and he paused for a second to let you adjust. The sensation quickly melted into bliss and you felt impossibly full with him buried completely inside you.
You rolled your hips against him, urging him to start moving. He placed his lips on your neck as he slowly began to thrust into you. You gripped his shoulders and arched against him as his teeth scraped along your neck and down your collarbone while he found a steady rhythm, pumping in and out of your soaking pussy. He bit down gently on your shoulder and snapped his hips, forcing a loud moan from you.
Sitting back on his heels, he slid his hands under your knees and pushed them down into the mattress, forcing his cock even deeper. The new angle allowed his sharp thrusts to hit that sweet spot right in your core, sending new waves of pleasure coursing through you.
You couldn't stop from crying out as the pleasure wound up, pulling tight in your lower abdomen. He groaned, the loud sound torn out of him in response to feeling you fluttering around him, squeezing his cock impossibly tight.
"I want to feel you cum," he practically growled in your ear. "Be a good girl and cum on my cock."
"Oh, fuck."
The unexpected dominance in his voice sent liquid fire through your veins and you felt yourself getting closer and closer to your climax. His control was slowly slipping and his pace quickened, slamming his hips into yours and sending both of you hurtling towards the edge. You grabbed at his shoulders, your nails digging into him with each stroke.
A few more thrusts, perfectly angled to hammer into just the right spot making you whimper uncontrollably right in his ear, and both of you tumbled off the cliff together. The warmth you'd been feeling all evening spread to every atom of your body as you floated through your orgasm, leaving Adrian gasping for breath as you contracted tightly around him, your cunt desperately milking every drop out of him.
Once he'd caught his breath, he carefully pulled out and snapped the used condom off, tossing it in the small waste basket next to your bed. He climbed back into your bed and collapsed next to you, careful not to crush you with his body weight. He reached out an arm and snagged it around you, pulling you close. You cuddled into his side, fully content and boneless in his arms.
"Hey, Adrian?" You mumbled into his shoulder.
"Hmm?"
You leaned up and gave him a quick peck on the cheek before snuggling back into him and closing your eyes.
"Happy Birthday."

Alastor x Daughter!Reader: Runaway I (Platonic)
So, what would it happen if Y/N after a lot of time at the hotel, decides to run off and explore the human world? Just like it happened in Helluva Boss I think. This is lighter than the others, but I really wanted to write this one. This could be interpreted as some AU of the Au or even set in the same series after a lot of time has passed.
I know the Grimoire doesn't really look like that and is in the ownership of someone else, but I was thinking that since Lucifer is the King of Hell, he should have at least a copy.
Reminder: Alastor is in hell for a reason.
Tw: Controlling behavior, possessive behavior, Alastor being a very controlling dad.

Things have gotten much better for you since you first arrived. It had finally gotten inside your thick skull that this experience was for real. As crazed as Charlie's dream seemed to be, you couldn't help but believe in her and her goals, given her optimism and enthusiasm. You could say this place was safer than anywhere else you had been crashing for the last ninety years.
But the safety of a place didn't always come hand in hand with feeling safe. And there was only one person to blame for that: Alastor.
If he had been overprotective as a human, as a demon he was much worse. He didn't give a fuck about subtlety anymore. He knew the kind of people that were out there; in fact, he was one of them! Time had proved over and over again you wouldn't make it out there without his protection! He just wanted what was best for you and he also casually happened to know what it was! He was that smart, hahahaha!
As a minor, there was little you could do in Hell, you couldn't drink, you couldn't smoke, you couldn't have sex. So that just nuked three of the most popular hobbies there. Not that you cared much, but it just really left you with a feeling that you didn't belong among the guests and staff friend group due to your youth. The emotional age gap was quite something. And there were times where you felt like the tag-along-kid more than a part of the team.
It was really embarrassing to pull yourself up to one of Husk's stools, ask for the strongest he had, and get served some pineapple juice. He may get a few laughs out of your antics, but you just wanted to fit in.
Sometimes you played with Nifty, since she seemed to be the closest to you in age. Unfortunately, Nifty didn't seem to know any game that didn't involve cleaning or roach mutilation. (how was she even able to find a murderous point of view to Parchis???)
Charlie and Vaggie were too busy managing the hotel and attracting new customers, but you got a feeling they still wouldn't manage to fill that void you seemed to have.
Angel was like the big brother you wished you had had back when you were alive. He loved to gossip with you and Cherri; even when you didn't understand half of what they were saying, it felt nice having some kind of normal teenage stuff around. He also liked to nudge you towards some potential boyfriends, saying that you were in 'in the age' *wink* *wink*. Your dad did not appreciate that.
Alastor wouldn't consider himself a boyfriend blocking dad, Heaven's, no! Just a humble boyfriend murdering dad. So whatever idea of dating or just hanging out with other people your age was out of the question. As soon as you started talking to someone that was in the same age range as you, his shadowy form started to appear behind you and his eyes changed into dials, that was enough for anyone to start running in the opposite direction (he had scared away so many pontential guests it was unreal)
You couldn't even own a phone. Your dad insisted that 'his hotel, his rules'. Any technology that surpassed the 50s was out of the question. (they still didn't have a working phone). If he caught you with one in your hands, specially a VOXTECH phone, even if it was not yours, the battery suddenly started to heat to unbearable levels and you just had to drop it before it exploded in green flames.
Where was the fun loving dad you grew up with? The one that at least had the decency to be a bit more discreet? 'Dead at the prospect of raising a teenage girl!' He liked to say with a laugh.
You talked to Rosie about it, hoping she would talk some sense into him, and he had the nerve to act all innocent and oblivious! Like you were the one being unreasonable!
Somehow, this safe haven had started to become like a prison. You found yourself feeling suffocated and alienated from the others. When you were out there on your own you had lived in fear and trauma, which you hated with all what remained of your heart; but now that you were in a relatively safe place, you felt isolated and trapped. There was no common ground. You needed to breath, to live (or unlive), to enjoy life! You were not a little girl anymore! (҉Y҉e҉s҉ ҉y҉o҉u҉ ҉w҉e҉r҉e҉!҉)҉
So, one day, while helping Nifty clean and hiding from the Radio Demon That Sees It All, you casually stumbled into something very interesting at Lucifer's workshop. It looked like an ancient book, unlike those at the library which you had read and reread over and over again (One could read one too many times Mr. Waddles Goes to Church before it started to get old).
Something in that book drew you towards it, you knew you shouldn't look. It was probably full of ancient demonic knowledge, but maybe a teensy weensy peek wouldn't hurt, right?
Your face lighted up when you opened the book, (and not only because the light was coming from it). There were no words to describe what you found inside. You could see everything inside of it, it was like it was filled with everyone's dreams and hopes, you wondered how something as beautiful as that had ended up in Hell.
Without thinking, you touched the pages which felt warm to the touch. In response to your delicate caress, the pages started shining even brighter. You were so mesmerized by it that you didn't notice how the room was starting to fill with small orbs of light that started moving around you at impossible speeds, like a tornado.
Crafting materials, toy ducks and gizmos were sent around the room due to the force of the movement. But you didn't pay them any attention. There was something truly magical about the orbs' dance. It was enrapturing.
The door shot wide open, revealing Lucifer, Charlie and Vaggie with an horrified look in their faces. They were shouting something at you, but you could barely hear them, too lost in the orbs and their hypnotic dance. So distracted that you didn't feel the chilling presence that joined them until he spoke.
"Y/N, my dear? ." You felt a shiver run down your spine and your heart filled with the fear of a child who knows they have been caught doing something they shouldn't. You could perfectly hear his radio filtered voice, clear as a day, quiet as the calm before the storm. "Step away from that book, cherie. You could get hurt, and we don't want that, do we? ." He spoke with the kind of condescending tone one would use with a little kid.
A new sudden emotion emerged within you, something you had never felt before and never had any need for it. Anger. Who was he to stop you? Why did he always treat you like you were one of his puppets? Like you were another toy he could dress up and command as he pleased? Why couldn't he let you live?.
Feeling braver, probably due to the book's influence, you looked at his red eyes defiantly, once again touching the pages. Despite his permanent smile, you could tell he was getting angrier by the second.
"Y҉/҉N҉" His body was morphing, growing, eyes already changing to those red radio dials that gave you the chills. "I҉ ҉F҉O҉R҉B҉I҉D҉ ҉Y҉O҉U҉-҉"
"No!" You found yourself surprised at your own voice."I lost my life for you, I got sent here because I tried to protect you, I wasted my life because of you!" That last part came a bit more demonic sounding than intended. "Now. I WANT TO LIVE."
And with that, you were enveloped in a bright light and dissapeared.
For a couple of seconds, nobody dared to make a move. After what felt like hours, reality seemed to kick in and everyone sprung into action; Lucifer desperately searching through the pages of a suddenly very uncooperative book, just in case you had been sucked in, Vaggie was already establishing a perimeter around the hotel and search parties, and Charlie, poor sweet Charlie was franctically looking through every single room on that floor.
The only one who hadn't moved yet was Alastor. Already shrunk back to normal size, he seemed completely relaxed and chill in what could be considered an extremely catastrophic situation to any parent.
"Ah, must be those teenage hormones kicking in." His voice sounded as cheery and joyful as always. Almost like he didn't care. Lucifer shot him a venomous look, silently urging him to show a little care for his MISSING DAUGHTER. But Alastor had already retreated back into the shadows and returned to his radio tower.
If only they knew.
The truth was that Alastor cared. Way too much. He sunk his claws into the table while he fought against the deeply buried instinct in him to let himself loose and destroy everything in his path. The chains in his neck, glowed menacingly, a bitter reminder that he wasn't at full power.
He had lost you. Again.
He had you there, close enough to reach and you had vanished before he was able to do something. You had run away.
The mere thought made his hands shake with anger, antlers already growing twice their normal size. How could you? After everything he did for your sake, for your safety, y҉o҉u҉ ҉d҉i҉s҉o҉b҉e҉y҉ ҉h҉i҉m҉??? His smile looked more like a grimace and his eyes were pools of red hot rage. Oh, you were so grounded when he got you back.
Now you were out there, who knows where. All on your own. Defenseless, at the mercy of his many enemies without anyone, HIM, to protect you.
He sent his shadows into the city, he would leave no stone unturned no crackden untouched until he found you. He didn't care who he had to kill, maul or destroy. You would be coming back with him. Only HE could keep you safe, whetever you wanted it or not.
His desperation only grew when his shadows came back empty handed, the crazed look in his eyes combined with the slasher smile only made him look like the deranged psychopath he actually was.
You weren't in the Pride ring. He was even starting to doubt you were in Hell at all. What was the last thing you had said?
His non beating heart gave a painful twist when your parting words echoed in his mind. The bitterness and resentment in your voice hurt his tainted soul in ways no other person could have. His claws dug even deeper in the wood.
No.
All he wanted was to keep you safe back at the hotel, to ensure no one in this hellish landscape ever laid a finger in your delicate skin. He was just being a good father. You may not understand it, and probably never would. That's irrelevant.
He had found you again after nearly ninety years since that fatidic night when he lost it all, he was not going to allow anybody to take you away from him.
A theory started forming in his twisted mind. You had said that you wanted to live. Alastor was no fool, he knew what the Grimoire could do, in fact he had been dying to take a peek himself. Whatever you had wished, would have probably come true. His grin turned sour.
You had gone where he couldn't follow.
The mortal plane.
Who knew the kind of horrors you were facing up there? The kind of fools that would dare to disrespect the child of one of Hell's most powerful overlords?
He couldn't go there, at least not physically. If he could synchronize his radio frequency with the ones on Earth, he may be able to locate you before some fuckwad up there decided to have their way with you.

Once Upon a Starry Night
Space Riders AU - @onyxonline Eve Ewe, Bolt - @lavendersartistry
This is a wholesome fic for onyxonline's Space Riders AU! This is mainly centered on the ask I sent to Onyx about the Space Critters attending a ball/gala! Please check Onyx out, their work is super cool!
Tumblr media
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE'RE GOING TO A GALA???"
Upon CraftyCorn's quick turn to DogDay, CatNap frowned at the sudden yell.
By what Bubba has said, their pen pal Eve had invited them all to the evening gala. A bit late for the invitation, as Bubba would put it. But it had seemed fair to have everyone come as a little reward for their recent successful missions.
"Princess Everiene has courtly spoken that we come to the gala as special guests. A very nice gesture of Her Majesty."
CraftyCorn nearly squealed at the news and ran off to prepare and to most likely make formal attire for everyone.
CatNap signed with a puzzled look.
'Do you think Z will come?'
DogDay shrugged and looked back at the set coordinates for Eve's planet.
"I don't know, being honest. He's never met Eve before and I think the gala would be a bit overwhelming."
Bubba nodded and leaned back in his seat, taking another sip of coffee.
"It's to have them meet at their own time. Maybe Z and Eve will get along well."
CatNap signed again.
'So DogDay is free from gossip for now. Oh well, there's always Bolt.'
"What do you mean by that?"
'I'll tell you when we get there.'
........
The gala felt like a fairytale. Elaborate gowns, fancy suits, divisions of the royal courts.
Bobby could nearly squeal at how glamorous the ordeal was, yet CraftyCorn had to calm herself before she actually squealed.
Hoppy and KickinChicken were busying themselves at the buffet tables, lightly fighting over the desserts while PickyPiggy snagged a few cookies in her pockets.
Bubba mingled with the other guests, mostly talking to a blue monarch butterfly lady.
That left DogDay and CatNap left to their own devices. However, they only observed from the drinking table as DogDay looked for Bolt.
"It's a bit past 11. Shouldn't they be announcing Eve coming?"
CatNap shrugged and leaned his head against his closed fist as he mindlessly floated. The captain, on the other hand, sighed and looked back to the dancing crowds, waiting patiently.
A quick lightning bolt strikes the garden path as Bolt approaches the drinking table while grumbling. Despite being so angry, he seemed quite handsome in his blue and gold suit.
Before the two critters could greet him, the wolf slammed his fists against the table.
"Damn that council..."
CatNap raised a eyebrow at him, quickly signing.
'Is Eve alright?'
Bolt sighed heavily and tried calming himself.
"No, she's not! That council, once again, projects onto her! And of course, I can't do much of the matter either."
DogDay patted his back in assurance, being a little upset himself.
As the two tried comforting their friend on the situation, the candle lights from the chandelier dimmed. The three watched as the music became softer and people by the end of stairs moved away.
Eve was guided down the stairs, the silver trim of her dress glittering from the hidden spotlight. Her expression remained calm despite the quick glances to Bolt.
CatNap looked towards Bolt and signed:
'Go to her.'
The wolf sighed softly and leaned back.
"I... I can't. Not when I already caused enough trouble for the both of us."
DogDay didn't believe his words, quickly nudging him.
"Sometimes you have to go against the rules. Go to her, Bolt."
The wolf looked at the both of them and let out another sigh before heading over as DogDay and CatNap watched.
"So how did you know Bolt had a long crush on Eve again?"
'I have my ways.'
[Added Bonus (for funsies!]
"I felt like a father figure."
"Watch me make it canon."
:3 you're welcome Onyx lol

Y/N sunk into the barstool, her eyes telling tales of another failed relationship. Yolanda, the supportive friend, encouraged Y/N to share the latest misadventure in her love life.
Y/N sighed, "Okay, get this. The first one, Mike, broke up with me because he claimed my choice of pizza toppings was a reflection of our incompatibility. Apparently, pineapple lovers and non-pineapple lovers are destined to fail."
"Then there was Mark," Y/N continued, a smirk playing on her lips. "He couldn't stand the fact that I had a more extensive collection of pokemon than he did. He said it was a sign of divergent life goals."
Yolanda raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Tell me more."
"James, number three," Y/N chuckled, "Simple, he doesn't like dog."
"Alex was next in line," Y/N continued her tone a mix of disbelief and amusement. "He called it quits because he believed my excessive use of emojis in texts was a clear indication of a lack of emotional depth. Can you imagine?"
Yolanda laughed, "You can't be serious! What about the fifth one?"
Y/N sighed again, "Oh, Tom. He said my insistence on arranging our bookshelf by color instead of genre was a deal-breaker. Apparently, a good relationship requires organized literature. Can you believe these reasons?"
"Bucky was the longest, wasn't he?" Yolanda mused, a smile playing on her lips.
Y/N nodded, "Yeah, high school sweethearts, you know? We were the classic emo couple, complete with matching black outfits and moody music playlists."
Curiosity flickered in Yolanda's eyes, "So, why did you guys break up?"
Y/N chuckled, "Dead serious. Bucky was deep into it. I remember one day, he used a spell to try and cancel a math quiz."
Y/N grinned, "Oh, maybe because I'm over with emo and I think because Bucky got into magic, like, real magic. He bought this ancient-looking spell book at a flea market."
Yolanda's eyebrows shot up in disbelief, "Magic? Seriously?"
Yolanda burst into laughter, "Wait, what? A spell to cancel a quiz?"
Y/N nodded, "Yeah, he was convinced he could influence the universe with his newfound magical prowess. The thing is, our math teacher did cancel a quiz that week, but I later found out it was because he had a stomachache."
Yolanda's laughter faded into a look of realization, "Wait, are you saying Bucky's spell worked, or was it just a coincidence?"
Y/N shrugged, "Who knows? But I guess that was the beginning of the end. Bucky's magic phase and my inability to take his magical ambitions seriously eventually led to our breakup."
Yolanda winked, still teasing, "Maybe he enchanted you with a love spell, and that's why your relationships have been so... uniquely challenging."
Y/N rolled her eyes, feigning exasperation, "Please, if Bucky had any magical influence, it would've been to summon more black eyeliner or something."
Yolanda joined in the laughter, realizing the absurdity of her own suggestion. "I guess you're right. Love spells and high school relationships don't really go hand in hand."
As they clinked their glasses together, Y/N couldn't help but feel grateful for Yolanda's light-hearted humor.

Y/N groaned as she woke up with a slight headache, the remnants of the drinks from the previous night's escapade still lingering. Despite the throbbing in her head, she dragged herself to work at the prestigious art gallery where she served as the manager.
As Y/N settled into her office, her boss, the eccentric Madam Madeline, swept in with her fur jacket and oversized glasses, an aura of sophistication surrounding her. Madeline, always on the lookout for the next big thing, had an uncanny talent for discovering hidden gems in the art world.
With an air of excitement, Madeline announced, "Y/N, darling, I've found the next big artist during my travels around Europe. A true visionary! Prepare yourself; this is going to be huge for the gallery."
Y/N, still nursing her headache, tried to focus on Madeline's words. "Really? That's fantastic news. Who is this artist?"
Madeline beamed, "Oh, you'll see soon enough. I've arranged for the gallery to showcase their artwork. We need to get everything ready for the grand reveal. This could be a game-changer for us, my dear."
Despite the pounding in her head, Y/N felt a surge of adrenaline at the prospect of introducing a groundbreaking artist to the gallery's patrons. With a nod and a determined smile, she assured Madeline, "Consider it done. I'll make sure everything is prepared for the big showcase. This artist is going to leave a mark on the art world, and our gallery will be at the forefront."
As Madeline left the room, Y/N rubbed her temples, contemplating the exciting challenge ahead.
The day of the grand art exhibition arrived, and the gallery buzzed with anticipation. Y/N couldn't help but be excited about unveiling the mysterious artist's work. The moment Madam Madeline revealed the artwork, gasps of awe echoed through the gallery.
The paintings were truly impressive, capturing the essence of emotion and movement in each stroke. Yet, as Y/N studied the intricate lines, a sense of familiarity tugged at her. It was only when Madeline dramatically unveiled the artist's identity that Y/N's surprise reached its peak.
"Bucky?" Y/N muttered under her breath, disbelief washing over her. She couldn't reconcile the image of the once-emo high school boyfriend with the sophisticated artist standing before her.
Without the signature eyeliner and long hair covering half his face, Bucky had transformed into an entirely different person.
Madeline, reveling in the dramatic revelation, announced, "Ladies and gentlemen, the brilliant artist behind these captivating pieces is none other than Bucky!"
Y/N's eyes widened as Bucky approached her with a confident smile. "Hey, Y/N. Long time no see."
It took a moment for Y/N to process the situation. "Bucky? The Bucky from high school?"
He nodded, "The one and only. Surprised?"
Y/N couldn't help but laugh nervously, "More than you can imagine. I didn't know you had this side to you."
Bucky chuckled, "Life is full of surprises. Just like art."
As the reality of the situation sank in, Y/N couldn't help but marvel at the unexpected twist of fate.
Intrigued by the transformation in Bucky's life, Y/N couldn't help but ask, "Bucky, where have you been all these years?"
Bucky grinned, a twinkle in his eyes, "After high school, I decided to pursue art more seriously. I entered art school, but it turned out the formal education wasn't for me. So, I packed my bags and hit the road, traveling around the country to draw inspiration from different landscapes and cultures."
Y/N listened, captivated by the adventurous turn in Bucky's journey. "And then?" she prompted.
Bucky continued, "I found myself in Europe, sketching the beautiful landscapes and immersing myself in the art scene. That's where I crossed paths with Madeline. She saw something in my work, and the next thing I knew, I'm back home."
Y/N couldn't hide her amazement. "That's incredible, Bucky. I had no idea you were out there making a name for yourself in the art world."
Bucky smiled modestly, his eyes reflecting a mixture of pride and gratitude. "Yeah, life has a way of surprising you," he remarked. "Art became my language, and every stroke on the canvas felt like a piece of my soul. Little did I know it would lead me here."
As Y/N continued to admire Bucky's work, a comfortable silence settled between them, punctuated only by the soft background hum of the art gallery. The familiarity of their shared past mingled with the newfound understanding of the paths they had taken.
Bucky broke the silence, "You know, Y/N, seeing you again brings back a flood of memories. The art, the laughter, the quirky moments—some things never change."
Y/N smiled, "Indeed, some things don't. Life has a funny way of circling back, doesn't it?"
As Madeline enthusiastically dragged Bucky away to meet other attendees, Y/N found herself momentarily alone, surrounded by the captivating artwork.
Observing Bucky engage with the crowd, Y/N couldn't help but feel a sense of pride for the once-emo high school boyfriend who had evolved into a renowned artist. The whimsical nature of their teenage years seemed worlds apart from the sophisticated individual now navigating the art world.
Y/N strolled through the gallery, and she noticed a subtle but significant detail in each painting – a delicately drawn flower nestled somewhere within the vibrant strokes. The realization struck her like a soft breeze, and she couldn't help but smile. It was her favorite flower, a subtle signature Bucky had left in each masterpiece.
Bucky, engrossed in conversation with other attendees, glanced in Y/N's direction. Their eyes met, and in that fleeting moment, an unspoken understanding passed between them. Y/N felt a warmth spreading within her, realizing that the flowers in Bucky's art were more than just a visual motif.
The language of art spoke louder than words, and Y/N interpreted the message within those flowers in the quiet exchange of glances. It was a silent acknowledgment, a whispered confession that transcended the boundaries of time and distance. Bucky's subtle gesture conveyed, "I still think of you."
As the art gallery hummed with admiration for Bucky's creations, Y/N couldn't help but feel a connection rekindling.
After the event, the air crackled with anticipation as Y/N mustered the courage to approach Bucky. "Bucky, would you mind grabbing a coffee with me? It's been so long, and I'd really like to catch up," she said, her heart pounding with a mix of nerves and excitement.
Bucky, meeting her gaze with a warm smile, replied, "Absolutely, Y/N. I'd love that."
As they sat in the dimly lit cafe, the atmosphere seemed to thicken with unspoken emotions. Conversations veered into shared memories and life's twists and turns. Y/N couldn't shake the feeling that, perhaps, this was a crucial moment—a juncture where destiny hung in the balance.
Later, in the intimacy of Bucky's hotel room, he opened an old sketchbook. Pages turned with a whisper, revealing an old photo of Y/N. Intriguingly, on the adjacent page, a spell was inscribed—an enchantment woven into the fabric of their shared history. The room seemed to pulse with an energy that felt both familiar and intense.
Bucky's chuckle was dark and enigmatic as he muttered, "Damn, it works."
The revelation left Y/N completely unaware. Little did she know that the seemingly whimsical magic from their teenage years had woven a thread connecting their souls, guiding them back to each other after years of divergent paths. As they continued to share laughter and stories, the magic of the past lingered in the air, creating a subtle but powerful force that bound them together.

THANKS FOR NOT KILLING ME | CHARLES LECLERC
Tumblr media
pairings: charles leclerc x sister!reader / arthur leclerc x sister!reader / lorenzo leclerc x sister!reader
warnings: mention of surgery. dentist. anesthesia. food. mood swings.
author's note: thank you for the request, I had fun writing this one! sorry if the ending seems rushed, I just didn't know how to properly end it. hope you enjoy it and let me know what you thought of it!

''Can you pull over? I have to pee.'' Y/N asked Charles, who was focused on the road.
Her older brother glanced at her through his rearview mirror, already done with the entire drive. ''No, you're gonna have to wait.''
Their mother had asked the second oldest Leclerc sibling to accompany her and his younger sister to the dentist, to get the youngest's wisdom teeth removed. Pascale already guessed that she was going to need some help with the teenage girl once her surgery was done.
He hadn't been too ecstatic, just wanting to hang out with his friends or play some video games. However, his mother had been very adamant on him joining and he found it hard to say no to her. Meanwhile, Arthur had volunteered to tag along, not wanting to miss his sister's reaction to the anesthesia as he had seen countless funny wisdom teeth removal videos online. The eldest brother, Lorenzo, had other businesses to attend to, but promised he would help take care of the girl once he was home.
''Honey, I told you to go slow on the pineapple juice.'' Her mother kindly scolded her, recalling her daughter's determination to only consume the drink as she had heard from friends that it would lessen the pain.
Y/N sighed, uncomfortably shifting in her seat. ''I'm hungry and thirsty, Maman!'' She complained, not having eaten anything in the last 8 hours.
''We'll get something afterwards, chérie,'' her mother assured her, ''how about ice-cream?'' Pascale turned around, looking at her daughter. ''Sounds good, thanks.''
''We're here.'' Charles pulled up to the parking and safely parked their car in the right spot.
Arthur snickered. ''Ooh~ I can't wait for you to get back.'' He teased her, rubbing his hands together.
''Shut up, you idiot!'' Y/N slapped his arm, resulting in a loud yelp from her older brother.
''Auw! You little shit!'' Arthur tried to hit her back, but his arm was pushed away by his mother. ''Stop it!''
''Maman!'' Arthur exclaimed, appalled. ''She started it!''
''You provoked her, Arthur.'' Pascale opened the car door and got out, adjusting her clothing.
Charles turned in his seat, looking at his sister. ''Y/N, good luck and we'll see you in an hour.'' Since the youngest sibling was still a minor, a guardian had to be present during the extent of her surgery, and with covid regulations still intact, the brothers couldn't wait for their sister inside the building. So, Charles and Arthur would fill up their free time until their mother had notified them when the surgery was done.
''It's not scary, right?'' She asked them, not making eye-contact with her brothers.
The two men glanced at each other, amused by the sudden behavior change. ''It's gonna be okay, you're not gonna feel a thing when they're removing the teeth.'' Charles comforted her.
Arthur opted to tease her, but seeing her obvious anxious expression, he didn't and followed his brother. ''Yeah, you have nothing to be scared about.''
Pascale had made her way around the car and opened her daughter's side of the door. ''Come on, we don't want to be late.'' Y/N nervously smiled at her two brothers, before getting out of the car.
''It's gonna be okay, you're brave!''
''Don't worry about it, munchkin.''
Their words of encouragement send a smile to their mother's face, touched by how her sons comforted their baby sister. Pascale put her arm around her daughter's shoulders and guided her into the dentist's office.
Her brothers watched them going in. ''She's gonna be fine, right?'' Arthur asked Charles, not entirely sure.
''Of course, you know how she doesn't like to embarrass herself in public.''
Tumblr media
''I'm dying!'' Y/N cried out to her mother, once she had regained consciousness.
Pascale shook her head, already knowing it was going to be a difficult task. ''You're not, my love.'' She took out her phone and sent a quick text to Charles, informing him she had woken up and that she would need their help to get her into the car.
''Maman! I can't see anything, I've gone blind!'' Upon hearing her daughter's words, she looked at her. ''Chérie, that's because your eyes are closed.'' Pascale, along with the dentist and his assistant, had a hard time not to burst out laughing at the sight of the young girl.
''Oh.''
With some help from the assistant, Pascale got her daughter out of the chair. They each held one of Y/N's arms over their shoulders until they made it to the front entrance of the building, where Charles and Arthur were waiting for them. As soon as the two Leclerc's noticed their mom and sister, they took over.
''See? We told you that you would be fine.'' Charles immediately reassured her, his sister mindlessly staring at nothing.
Y/N whined in return. ''I'm not fine, I'm dying!'' She loudly exclaimed, her mother trying to shush her straight away.
''And I'm dying to get out of here, let's go!'' Arthur commented and made a move to start walking back to the car.
Pascale thanked the assistant for the successful surgery, just loud enough for Y/N to hear.
''Thank you for not killing me, Doc!'' She yelled out, causing some heads to turn at the noise.
''That's my job, thank you, Y/N.'' The assistant took it all in good fun and smiled at the young girl, her whole day made because of the interaction.
Eventually, the brothers got her in the car. Arthur put her seatbelt on, but stopped midway once he saw her looking wide-eyed at him. ''What is it?''
''Since when did you get here?'' She asked him, confusion written all over her face.
He simply chuckled and made sure her seatbelt was put on safely. ''Me and Charles were waiting for you to be done.''
''Charles is here?'' Y/N reacted astounded, gasping when Arthur pointed at the man in the driver's seat. The Ferrari driver had a huge smile on his face, endeared by his little sister. ''I'm here, Y/N.''
The teenager mirrored his smile until she noticed something. ''Wait, he's driving the car?'' She looked at her mom, who nodded.
''No~ he can't drive!'' Y/N whined, trying to take her seatbelt off.
Arthur stopped her right away. ''No, no, no! You have to keep that on, it's for your safety.'' He held his sister's arms to prevent her from doing anything further.
''Why can't Charles drive, honey?''
''Because he's stupid.'' She made a reference to the infamous Baku qualifying when he planted himself into the barriers.
Their mom and Arthur cackled at the comment, while Charles just accepted it. He drove out of the parking lot and the family was on their way back home.
''Where's Enzo?'' Y/N asked them, noticing the eldest brother wasn't in the car.
''He's at work, he'll be at home soon.'' Pascale answered, staying as positive as she possibly could.
Arthur pulled his phone out, grinning ear to ear. ''You wanna FaceTime him?'' He searched for his brother's contact and handed the phone to her. Y/N took the phone and pressed the FaceTime button, excited to speak with her brother.
However, he didn't answer and his little sister didn't like it one bit. ''Huh?'' She stared at her own reflection on the phone screen, a puzzled look on her face. ''Why isn't he answering?'' Her voice wavered, an indication she was going to cry.
''No, chérie, he's probably just busy.'' Pascale immediately tried to comfort her, not wanting to deal with that at that moment, but her daughter wouldn't hear it. ''He hates me, he doesn't want to talk to me.'' She continued whining, wiping non-existent tears away.
''Y/N, he doesn't hate you, he loves you! More than anyone else.'' Charles helped his mom, being reminded of when his sister was a toddler and she would whine the exact same way.
She fell more quiet at his words. ''Charles, do you love me?'' The whining had died down and the question came out more genuine.
''Of course I do! You're my baby sister, you're my favorite person!'' Charles wasn't lying when calling her his favorite person. The two had a very close bond and she always brightened his gray days. If she wasn't busy with school, she was always there for him during the Grand Prix's. Maybe he had to tell her more that he appreciated her always being there for him, he didn't say it enough.
She smiled at his answer, but wasn't satisfied yet. ''Do you love me more than Arthur?''
Charles simply laughed at the question while Arthur expectantly looked at his older brother, also curious about the answer.
"What's that kind of a question? I love you both equally." He put an emphasis on the last word, glimpsing at both of them through the rearview mirror.
Arthur's attention went back to the phone, but the youngest still wasn't content. "Why? I'm so much better than Arthur and I'm also prettier than him." Y/N summed up the reasons why Charles should love her more, almost in a childish manner.
"You're lucky you just got out of surgery, Y/N" The youngest Leclerc brother semi-threatened the girl.
"You know, I would stick my tongue out at you, but I can't feel anything." She shot back at him, gathering some laughs from Charles and their mother.
It didn't take long for them to arrive back home. However, it did take a long time for them to get Y/N in the house. Arthur joked about the ground being lava and she refused to get out of the car.
''I'm gonna go to the grocery store and get Y/N her ice cream. Charles, you're in charge of your sister!'' Pascale didn't waste anymore words and was out of the door before her second oldest child could even respond.
Charles sighed loudly, but still made his way to the living room and sat next to his sister, who didn't seem to have a thought behind her eyes. ''You kinda look like Carlos right now, Y/N.'' He laughed, her stare reminding him of his teammate.
''I look hot?'' She asked him, her voice a little higher than usual.
He made a disgusted face, that wasn't what he meant. ''No, you just-''
''So you think I'm ugly? My face feels all swollen.'' Her emotions were all over the place. A few seconds before she was all excited about being compared to Carlos and now she looked like she could burst out in tears.
Charles slightly panicked. ''No, no! You're pretty, Y/N! You're beautiful!'' He put his arms around her, feeling bad for making her cry.
She slowly blinked her eyes at him. ''Really? Oh, Charlie! That's so nice! You're pretty too!'' The tears in her eyes were gone and a bright smile had returned to her face.
Her older brother giggled, entertained by his sister's actions. He flinched when the front door suddenly closed very loudly. He glanced behind him to see Lorenzo entering the living room.
''Hey, how did it go?'' He asked them, appearing in front of them.
Charles answered for her. ''Good, no complications at all.''
''Unlike Ferrari…'' Y/N mumbled, a smirk present.
Lorenzo chuckled at her words. ''Ah, see! The anesthesia didn't do anything to her, she's still the same.'' He sat down on Y/N's other side, so she was sat in-between them.
''Enzo! Oh my god! How did you get here?'' His sister looked at him wide-eyed, like she hadn't just seen him walk into the house.
He confusingly glanced at Charles, who continued to be amused by his sister. ''I took my car and I drove home from work.'' He answered, matter-of-factly.
''I missed you, but you didn't pick up when I called.'' She told him, Lorenzo's confusion grew even more by the sudden mood swing.
''You didn't call me.''
''She called from Arthur's phone.'' Charles clarified for him.
''Ah~ I thought it was Arthur, so I didn't pick up, but if I had known it was you, I would have definitely answered, Y/N.'' Lorenzo figured he had to be as optimistic as he could be, that way he couldn't upset his sister in any way.
Y/N blushed at his words. ''That's so sweet! I knew you liked me more than Arthur.''
The youngest Leclerc brother must have sensed he was being talked about as footsteps could be heard coming down from the stairs. The door opened and he gave the three of them a suspicious look. ''I heard my name.''
''You must have a very good hearing.'' Lorenzo teased.
''Whatever,'' Arthur brushed it off, ''I'm going, can you tell mom when she gets back?'' He didn't look at his siblings, focused on getting his shoes and jacket on.
''Where are you going?''
''Friends.''
Charles and Lorenzo were satisfied with the answer, not particularly interested in who these friends were. However, their sister was a curious cat. ''Are you gonna see Mick?''
Arthur looked at her for the first time since he came downstairs, frowning. ''Mick? Who? Mick Schumacher?'' He asked her, to which Y/N nodded with an innocent smile on her face.
''No, why? Do you like him?'' The three brothers focused on their sister and how her face became more red. ''I think someone has a crush.''
''Mick's too old for you, Y/N.'' Arthur concluded, grabbing his car keys. He bid them goodbye and was off to meet his friends.
Y/N watched him leave, an offended expression on her face. ''He's not too old for me.''
''He's like 7 years older than you, that's too much. There are plenty people of your age who would love to date you.'' Charles said, not even wanting to think about his sister dating any of the other drivers on the grid.
Lorenzo agreed with his younger brother. ''Yes, by the way, you are way too young to have a boyfriend,'' he told her more sternly, ''or girlfriend.'' He doesn't discriminate.
''And if you're gonna date someone, don't date people who do motorsport.'' Charles added.
''So, no Mick?''
Both brothers shook their heads at her question, amused by her disappointment.
''How about Sebastian? He's retiring.''
"..."
''I'm not even gonna answer that one, I don't want that image in my head.''
''What's it with you and older guys?''

-March 7, 2003-
“Excuse me? Ma’am? Excuse me?”
The voice behind you is so timid you don’t hear it right away, especially not when your phone is pressed to your ear with your shoulder as you sort through the mail, your coworker droning on and on…
“Ma’am?”
It’s a little more forceful this time, a little closer too, and that’s when it finally gets your attention. Turning around on your heel, you find a young girl standing behind you, one hand hooked in the strap of her backpack that hangs off of one thin shoulder, the other worrying about the butterfly pendant of the necklace she’s wearing.
You recognize her immediately as one of your neighbors, the girl from across the street whose name you didn’t know yet, because you only moved in about two months ago. You’d met the man who you assumed was her father – Joe? Or was it Joel?, you couldn’t remember – the first day you’d moved in, but there had been so much going on that you were too flustered to be engaged.
It’s a Friday, but apparently that doesn’t keep you safe from work calls after you leave the office, because you’re getting an earful of a whole lot of hot air, so much so that you’re probably unintentionally frowning at the girl in front of you while you try to follow the conversation.
“....I think you’re right, but they’re not going to budge unless we sweeten the deal somehow-”
“Can I call you back?” you blurt, ultimately thankful for the interruption. You don’t even wait for his response before you click off your blackberry, sighing, looking up. “Hi, yeah, sorry. Can I help you?”
“Uhm, I’m Sarah…..Miller….I live across the street?” her voice goes up slightly at the end of the sentence, like she’s unsure, even as she points to the home behind her, a two-story place that’s considerably bigger than your own, but maybe a little older. “I uhm…I locked myself out and I was wondering if I could use your phone…to call my dad at work? Please?”
“Oh, yeah,” you say. “That’s fine. Just uh..follow me I guess.”
Tucking the stack of mail in your hand under your arm, you wave her after you, your kitten heels clicking on the hard pavement of your driveway.
“Be careful here,” you warn her as you step over the middle step to your front porch that has rotted, and gives easily under any amount of weight. You’d learned about it the hard way, last week, and still had the bruise on your leg to show for it.
Your front door is open, and Sarah pauses to take off her shoes when you do, a pair of beat-up white Converse that have been doodled on in Sharpie.
“Here, phone’s right there,” you lead her into the kitchen and point to the landline. “Can I get you anything to drink?”
“Uhm, could I just get some water…please?” She stands rigidly in your kitchen, rocking back and forth on her heels.
“Of course,” you reach into the cabinet. Once the glass is filled and placed in front of her, you retreat to your front living area to give her some privacy while she makes the call, sitting on the couch and scrolling through unanswered emails on your blackberry. Sarah mumbles indiscreetly, until you hear her call out again.
“Uhm…ma’am…I’m sorry, Miss…uh-what’s your last name?”
“Oh,” you sit up, giving her your first instead.
“Okay….Uh, my dad wants to talk to you…could you-”
“Sure,” you stand, stepping back into the kitchen, and accepting the receiver from the girl.
“Hello?”
“Hey, this is Joel Miller,” you’re greeted with a low, gruff drawl. “You’re the new neighbor, I believe introduced myself a while back”
“Joel,” you repeat. It’s Joel. Joel, Joel, Joel, you force yourself to remember. Joel and Sarah Miller. “Yes, we met very briefly.”
“And it sounds like you met Sarah.”
“Yeah.”
On the other end of the line, you hear him hesitate, let out a long sigh. “Look, I hate to put you out, but she lost her key to the house, and she tells me the Adlers aren’t home. Do you think she could stay at your place until I’m able to get off work in a couple hours? I know it’s a big ask, but-”
“Of course she can,” you cut him off, peering over your shoulder at Sarah, who’s staring up at you expectantly with wide, terrified eyes.
“Really?”
“Yeah, it’s no big deal.”
“She’s probably got homework so I’ll make sure she stays quiet and out of your way. I’m so sorry, she should know better than this. It’s the second time this month this has happened, I keep tellin’ her-”
“Like I said, it’s not a big deal,” you cut him off, unintentionally, before wondering if it was rude you didn’t let him finish. It’s the native New Yorker in you, always in a rush and uninterested in drawn-out excuses. It’s an unfortunate instinct you’ve been trying to train yourself out of, particularly now that you’re living in the southwest. You soften your tone. “She can stay as long as she needs to, seriously. I don’t have anything planned.”
“Okay,” the voice on the other end sounds relieved. “Thank you. Thank you so much. I should be home by nine, I’ll call if anything changes. Thanks so much.”
“Of course, we’ll be fine. See you soon.” You hang up.
Sarah is still behind you when you turn around, clutching the glass of water she’s got in both hands like a vice. “You can stay here until your dad gets home,” you tell her.
“Did….did he sound mad?”
“Maybe a little stressed,” you’re honest. “But….not mad. I also don’t know him, so…”
“I bet he’ll be mad. This is the second time I’ve locked myself out this month because I forgot my key, and I already got lectured once that last time because he had to leave work early.”
“You made a mistake, people forget things…” you shrug. “I’m sure he’ll get over it.”
Her shoulders relax slightly, and she looks around like it’s the first time she’s actually registered where she’s at. “You have a nice house. It’s cozy.”
“Thanks,” you put your hands on your hips and look around too. “I’m still settling in, so not everything’s unpacked, but I could give you a tour if you’d like?”
“Yes ma’am.”
Ma’am. That tickles you. The address is still not something you’re used to hearing, even though you’ve only been in Austin a few years. “You can just call me by my first name, you know? Ma’am makes me feel old.”
“Really?” she grins, following you down the hall. “I can’t wait to be old.”
“You’ll feel differently someday,” you answer. “But…I guess it’s not so bad.”
Compared to the house you grew up in, your new house is nothing special, but it’s yours, and you couldn’t be prouder that you’d bought it all on your own. It’s a three-bedroom ranch, and you’d converted one of the rooms into an office for yourself. There’s a kitchen, living room, and den. But your favorite part is your large, screened in back porch that overlooks your yard. Now that it’s getting closer to summer, you sit outside in the mornings with a cup of tea and read the newspaper, listen to the birds.
“Can I do my homework at your kitchen table?” Sarah asks once you’re finished showing her around.
“Make yourself comfortable wherever,” you answer. “I could probably stand to get a little work done myself.”
Sarah sits at your dining room table, spreads out her books, and works quietly while you answer some emails and look over some contracts. You’ve got a big meeting Monday with a potential client, and a giant stack of term sheets to go through, but if you could manage to get some of it done tonight it might actually help you down the line. As much as possible, you try to avoid doing too much work outside of your office’s standard hours, but sometimes, it’s inevitable.
The subject Sarah has homework in is algebra, which renders you useless. Even when you have to do any accounting at work, you’re used to having a calculator nearby. It’d been awhile since you spent time with anyone as young as she was – in sixth grade, she told you – and it was starting to serve as a confirmation of your own dysfunctional childhood, because her carefree, sweet nature was so drastically different from anything you remembered feeling.
After about an hour, Sarah slowly starts to close her notebooks, zipping her pencils back up in plastic pouches. You look up from making revisions on a contract, the smell of blue ink heavy in the air around you. “I’m done,” she announces. “Could I sit on your couch and read?”
“Of course,” you answer. “Give me five and I’ll join you.”
It doesn’t take long for you to find a good stopping point, and you pack up your messenger bag, and join Sarah in the living room. “So…I’m starting to get hungry,” you tell her. “Are you?”
Sarah nods sheepishly.
“I could order us something,” you said. “What do you like?”
You aren’t much of a chef, though you can generally figure your way out around any recipe. However, cooking for one is notoriously tedious. If you had multiple mouths to feed, maybe you’d be tempted to hone your skills in the kitchen a little more. Most nights you usually treated yourself to a depressing, hastily thrown together salad, scrambled eggs, or a PB&J. Tonight, you had actually been planning to take yourself out to dinner – there’s a cute little French bistro down the street and you were hoping to treat yourself to a cocktail and a nice meal while you read.
Sarah closes her book, contemplating. “Could we….get a pizza?”
You think about it. “Sure, yeah. Pepperoni…cheese?”
“Can we get….one of both?” she tests.
“Yeah, we can do both,” You smile. “I bet your dad will be hungry, too, he can have some if he wants.”
“Maybe…he likes pineapple on his,” Sarah wrinkles her nose.
“He has good taste. I do too.”
“Gross.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll keep them separate,” you call over your shoulder as you retreat to the kitchen.
Once the pizza is ordered, you return to your living room and curl up on the opposite side of the couch from Sarah, who is engrossed back in her book. “They told me about 30 minutes. What are you reading?”
“To Kill A Mockingbird,” she says, showing you the cover.
“That was one of my favorites growing up.”
“I have to read it for school…but it’s pretty good so far.”
Your phone pings with another email, and you glance at it quickly.
“Is that work?” she asks.
You nod. “Yeah. It still finds you, even when you leave.”
“What do you do?”
“I’m a lawyer.”
“No way!” Sarah perks up. “Like on the tv shows? That’s so cool.”
You snort, shaking your head. “No, not exactly. I’m a corporate lawyer so it’s not as fun, actually, it’s just a lot of paperwork and meetings…”
“So…you don’t like it, then?”
“It’s….” you think about it. “....Fine.” Did you like your job? It wasn’t really something you thought about in that way, you’d always seen it as a means to an end. “I went to law school because my dad wanted me to…he wanted me to work for him someday. And…that didn’t pan out so…yeah. But you know…it pays well, and….”
“You get to wear cool outfits,” she gestures to you.
“Yeah, I guess I do. Although the heels do get a little uncomfortable.”
Sarah’s eyes shift behind you for a second to the hallway leading to your bedroom, then widen excitedly. “You have a cat?”
You turn around to see what she’s looking at, the white and gray ball of fluff that you’d found underneath a dumpster one late night in college.
“Yeah, that’s Martini.”
“Martini,” she giggles, and the cat approaches her cautiously. He’s notoriously shy and quiet, and not even particularly cuddly, but he likes to sleep at the foot of your bed and will sit next to you on the couch if you stay still for long enough.
The cat sniffs Sarah’s outstretched hand, then presses his face into Sarah’s palm so she can scratch him under his chin, his favorite spot. “He’s not usually a fan of strangers, he must like you.”
“I love animals,” she says. “My dad won’t let me get a pet because he says he’ll end up taking care of it.”
You chuckle. “Cats are pretty easy…at least, he is.”
Martini allows himself about twenty seconds worth of affection before he darts out of the room and heads to his food bowl.
“I’m gonna go change out of my work clothes, I’ll be right back,” you push yourself off the couch and walk down the hallway. Any other night and you probably would’ve been in pajamas awhile ago but that’s probably not acceptable, so you settle for jeans and a sweater, which is much more comfortable than the dress and tights you had been in before.
The pizza arrives and after you tip the driver, set it on your kitchen island and pull some plates out of your cupboard. You and Sarah are both long settled with full plates when you speak again.
“Wow….I forgot how good pizza is…” you say, staring at the half eaten piece in your hand.
“You don’t eat pizza?”
“Usually only when I’m drunk,” you say, then immediately realize you’re talking to an eleven year old. “Oops, I…probably shouldn’t be telling you that.”
She giggles. “It’s okay.”
“So, it’s just you and your dad across the street?” you ask. “Does your mom live with you?”
The second the question registers, you immediately regret asking. Sarah shrinks before you, her face dropping, shaking her head. “No I…I don’t really have a mom.”
“I’m sorry,” you say, softly. You just assumed she existed although you’d never seen her, and you feel guilty, racking your brain for something that might help make her feel better. “I understand, my mom wasn’t really around growing up.”
“She wasn’t?” Sarah asked, looking up.
You shake your head.  “My parents got divorced when I was young, my dad took us, and she moved across the country, so….I didn’t see much of her.”
“My mom… she left when I was a baby.”
“I’m sorry.” You say again, staring at the girl in front of you.
For a moment, looking at her, you see yourself, and you wonder how a parent can wake up one day and choose to ignore someone that’s one half of themselves. Someone they made. If they really understood what that might do to a person’s psyche, growing up thinking that they weren’t wanted. You had always told yourself that your mother, your parents must have not understood, because if they did, and they still chose to do it…
“Are you married?” Sarah asks, and you’re snapped out of your train of thought.
Taking a bite of pizza, you shake your head no.
“So you live here alone?”
You nod, chewing.
“Do you like it?”
You nod, swallow. “It’s better than having a roommate, or living in the city.”
Standing up, you walk towards the fridge for a can of sparkling water. It hisses while you open it, and you lean over the counter while Sarah continues to drill you. “Do you ever get….scared? Like at night?”
“No….not really. I have locks. And this is a safe neighborhood. And uh, I may or may not have a nightlight still.”
Sarah giggles. “Me too.”
There’s a sturdy knock on your screen door, which you’d left open to let in the cool spring breeze, and you notice Sarah’s eyes widen. “I bet that’s my dad.”
As if he heard her, and maybe he did, the guest calls out. “It’s Joel!” It’s the same voice from over the phone, but much clearer.
“Come in,” you answer.
The screen door creaks open, the sound of boots shuffling inside. “Sarah?” It’s the same voice from the phone. Joel steps into the warm light of the kitchen.
When you first met it had been from a distance, you were carrying boxes and he was loading something into the back of his truck. It’s clear you hadn’t gotten a good enough look at him, wouldn’t have forgotten his name, because fuck, he’s kind of gorgeous…tan skin, dark wavy hair, and a sharp jawline covered in stubble. In the archway to your kitchen he looks huge, taller than you remembered.
“Hi Dad,” Sarah says. “Miss-“
You cut her off simply by saying your first name. “Nice to meet you…again.”
“It’s nice to meet you, too, and thank you so much for keeping an eye on her. We’ll get out of your ha-”
“We got you pizza,” Sarah pipes up, looking at him. You can tell that she’s trying to stall. Or at least, trying to offer him something that might soften the inevitable lecture she’s going to get. It’s a smart play, and definitely not something you would’ve been above trying at her age.
Joel looks at the three pizza boxes spread across your countertop. “You didn’t have to feed her, really, like I said, she should’ve known better,” he turns to look at her pointedly.
“I had to eat anyway. Please, help yourself. There’s a ton of leftovers,” You really did not want cold pizza in your fridge, because it’d be too tempting to eat as a late night snack or even breakfast on your way out the door in the mornings.
Reluctantly, he looks at you before taking a plate. “Thank you,” he turns to his daughter while he opens one of the boxes. “Did you get your homework done?”
Sarah nods. “And I got ahead on my reading for English.”
“That’s good.”
Joel turns back to you, settles in a chair with the plate of food in front of him at the island. You do the same. “I’m sorry I haven’t had the time to come over and properly introduce myself. Sarah too.”
You shrug. “I’m the new neighbor, that’s probably my responsibility anyways. It’s been kind of hectic settling in.”
“Where’d you move from?”
“Well, I’ve been in Austin for the past few years, but originally I’m from Manhattan.”
Joel nods. “Why Texas?”
It’s far away from my insane family, you think, and then settle on something else. “Work.”
Sarah is staring at her plate and tearing a piece of crust into tiny pieces. Joel eyes the slice of pizza he’s just taken a bite of.
“Pineapple?” he looks over at Sarah. “Are you tryin’ to bribe me so you don’t get in trouble?”
“It’s my favorite, too,” you offer, then wink at Sarah when Joel isn’t looking. She tilts her head down, her hair hiding the grin on her face from her father.
A buzzing sound cuts through the room before Joel can answer, and he digs in his pocket to fish out his cell phone. “Hold on, I gotta take this.”
When he steps out of the room, you begin to clear the empty boxes and plates off your kitchen island and bring them over to the sink. Sarah brings her plate over as well, stands next to you at the sink while you rinse them off and load them in the dishwasher.
“Thank you for dinner,” she says.
“Of course,” you answer.
“I just really hope he’s not disappointed with me.”
Placing your hand between her shoulder blades, you give her an encouraging pat. “I don’t think he is….” you hear Joel on the phone in the other room, his voice rising in volume. “....and honestly….it sounds like he might have bigger fish to fry…”
“Tommy…are you fucking kidding me? Again? How many times is this gonna happen? Okay…fine. fine. I’ll be there soon, but you can’t keep doing this shit.”
Sarah grimaces, and you both turn back to the sink sheepishly when you hear Joel’s footsteps returning. She bumps you with her elbow while you clear your throat.
You’re sure there’s still a residual smile on your face when you turn around to face Joel, who has his hands on his hips. “Alright, Sarah, we gotta get going.”
“Is everything okay with Uncle Tommy?”
“No, I’ve gotta pick him up at the police station.”
“Did he drink too much again?”
“Sarah!” Joel exclaims. “Please, it’s gettin’ late and you’ve got a soccer game tomorrow, you need to get to bed.”
You’re biting your lower lip so hard to keep from laughing you almost taste blood. It’s not funny, definitely not funny to Joel, who you can tell is having a rough night, but it’s objectively funny as an outsider, watching all their familial drama being put on blast by his daughter who doesn’t quite have a filter yet, and is first and foremost trying to protect herself from getting into trouble.
“She’s a lawyer, I bet she could help Tommy,” Sarah looks over at you. “Couldn’t you?”
Joel frowns. “That’s not how that works-”
“What’d they bring him in for?” you ask.
Joel runs a hand through his hair. “Public intoxication. Are you really a lawyer?”
“Well…I’m a corporate lawyer so that wouldn’t really be my specialty. But uh…I’ve definitely been able to talk my friends out of that kind of thing before.”
“But this is not the first time,” Joel says. “It’s probably useless.”
“Didn’t you say you can’t afford to keep-”
“Sarah, enough.” Joel’s voice is as stern as you’ve heard it, and he digs into his pocket, producing a keychain. “Go home and get ready for bed. I’ll be home in a minute.”
Sarah sighs, defeated. “Okay.”
Joel stands dead still while she shuffles to the door, cramming her feet in her shoes with her backpack slung over her shoulder.
By this point in the evening, you’d usually be curled up on your couch by the fireplace with your latest knitting project, moderately stoned, watching bad reality television and sipping sleepytime herbal tea. But your night has already gone drastically different from your expectation. Why stop now? “If you wanted…I could try to help.”
Joel shakes his head, looks at the floor. “I can’t ask that of you.”
“You didn’t ask,” you shrug. “I offered.”
He looks up, a soft smile breaks across his face, revealing a row of straight, sparkling teeth, the corners of his eyes crinkling. It’s the first sincere smile you’ve ever seen from him, and your knees feel a little weak at the sight of it. You think you might offer him anything just to see it again. “It’d be a huge favor. But….I’d appreciate it.”
“Alright well…” you look around, push yourself off the countertop. “I probably should change before we go. I don’t think I’ll be taken seriously in this.”
He chuckles. “Yeah, I need to make sure Sarah gets to bed alright, how ‘bout you meet me on my porch in ten?”
“I’ll be there.”
“Thanks again,” he raps his knuckles on the counter twice before retreating, and you stay in place until you hear the screen door close behind him.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
“I feel like you’re meeting us all at a very chaotic time….I promise, things aren’t usually like this.”
Joel’s not sure why he feels the need to clarify this to you on the drive to the police station. In fact, he might be saying it more to convince himself, because he thinks ever since Sarah’s mom ran off, things have never not been chaotic.
In some ways, he’s glad it happened. It was a doomed relationship from the start, they’d both been far too young to understand the consequences of their actions, so it was probably for the better that she was no longer around. But he was caught in a constant state of feeling like he could never quite get a handle on things.
Joel glances over at you in the passenger's seat of his truck. He decides that you look a little out of place there, dressed in a black pantsuit, a messenger bag tucked between your heel-clad feet. He can’t remember the last time there was an adult woman in his car. Three months, maybe? It had been a date, a third date, and subsequently, a last date. But right now the context is different.
Your head is tilted towards the open window, the breeze casting stray pieces of your hair around as the radio cuts in and out of an old Eagles song and then to static, and then back into music again. He needs to get his damned stereo fixed but unfortunately it hasn’t exactly been high on his priority list. His gaze travels down the slope of your neck, where your skin dips into the collar of your silky blue blouse, then back to your profile, your lips moving as you mouth the words to the song, but don’t sing.
I get this feelin' I may know you
As a lover and a friend
You stop when his words register, turning to look at him, and he averts his eyes back to the road. “No offense or anything….” you say. “But compared to the family I grew up in….this is all pretty tame.”
Joel ponders that for a moment, notices the way your eyes are narrowed, the corners of your lips quirking. “What, you got a problematic little brother, too? A precocious eleven-year-old?”
“No kids,” you answer. He didn’t think so. “But I do have a problematic older brother. And the stress he’s caused has definitely taken years off my life.”
At least you seem like you understand.
He’s shocked you’re in this car with him, that after entertaining his daughter all night, you’d offered to help him out with this Tommy mess. Though, he assumes you’re doing it out of guilt because Sarah made it sound like he was broke.
“You know for the record, I actually have the money to bail him out.”
“I figured.”
“Then why’d you come?”
You shrug. “I don’t know. My life has been pretty boring lately. I can’t remember the last time I did something exciting on a Friday night.”
“This is exciting to you?”
“It’s objectively exciting,” you sound assured. “Maybe more exciting than being the person who got arrested for public intoxication.”
Despite the stress of the evening, he can’t help but laugh.
“And whether you’re broke or not, bailing someone out of jail is no joke. If you can at least try to talk your way out of it, you might as well.”
Joel can’t argue with your logic.
“What is it you do again?” you ask, eyeing the protective glasses he has in the cup holder of his front seat. There are nails stuck between the rubber grooves of the mat beneath the seats, a pair of thick gloves resting on the dashboard.
“I’m a carpenter.”
“Makes sense,” you answer. “So you’re handy?”
“You could say that,” Joel lifts the can of flat, warm seltzer from his lunch break to his mouth, just to take a sip.
“That’s hot,” you say, and he nearly chokes when he hears it.  Are you….flirting? Though, you can’t be, because when he looks over at you, you’re staring at the road, face neutral.
“What makes you say that?”
“I don’t know, I don’t make the rules of what’s hot and what isn’t….it’s just a fact. Everyone knows that.”
“Do they?”
“Uh-huh,” you respond. “I mean, I wish I was handy. I’m pretty much a lost cause in that department.”
“If it paid the bills, you’d figure it out.”
“If it paid the bills, I can tell you, I would not be living in our neighborhood.”
Joel puts his blinker on, preparing to pull into the police station. “You probably still could, it’s not that nice of a neighborhood.”
“Shut up,” you snort, rolling your eyes. “But in all seriousness, it is peaceful. It’s quiet.”
“See, but you still didn’t say nice.”
“It is nice. I like it.”
When he parks the car, you straighten up, unbuckling the seatbelt and exiting without a word. On the opposite side of the truck, he observes how you rebutton the front of your blazer, smooth down its lapels and shift your shoulders back before turning to him.
“You ready?” you ask.
He nods.
“After you.”
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
When Joel spots you again, Tommy is walking a few paces behind you. You turn your head over one shoulder, smirking at whatever he’s saying. From where Joel is sitting in the lobby, he can just make out the soft curve of your hips, the tops of your thighs over the barrier that separates him from all the desks of the officers and staff at the station. You’ve got an easy, relaxed gait and you give Joel a wink when he catches you staring.
He can tell it’s just meant to be celebratory thing, since both you and Tommy seem to be in good spirits, but he likes the sight of it anyways, the idea that you’re both in on some secret that no one else is.
Joel stands to greet you and his brother to get the download, but as he approaches, your group is intercepted by one of the cops that had been hanging around reception.
“Miller,” he says lowly to Tommy. “This better be the last time I see you in here.”
When Tommy doesn’t answer right away, you pipe up.
“I assure you my client will be on his best behavior.”
The cop turns to you for a minute, turns back to Tommy, contemplating. “You’re lucky you have a good lawyer…” he says. “Although I’m still not convinced you’re really paying someone to get you out of a public intoxication charge.”
“I-” Tommy opens his mouth but you cut him off.
“Alleged…intoxication,” you interject, stone-faced.
“He can hardly walk straight.”
You purse your lips. “But….you never did a sobriety test, so, would it hold up in court?” you grimace. “If I had to guess….probably not.”
The cop narrows his eyes at you. “Don’t push it, princess.”
Despite the infantilizing nickname, You respond with a polite smile. “Thanks again, officer. Have a nice evening.”
“Mhm,” he murmurs before backing away.
You turn to Joel, your smile fading, and Tommy cuts in. “We should get the fuck out of here before he changes his mind.”
“That’s it? You’re free?” Joel asks.
Tommy nods.
“Tommy’s right, we should definitely leave.”
It’s a mad scramble, the three of you settling back into Joel’s truck, and if he was feeling a little less angsty about the way the whole evening had gone, he might’ve even peeled out of the parking lot for dramatic effect. But at this point, his patience is wearing thin.
He’s back on the main drag, en route to Tommy’s place, with you on the passenger’s side, and his brother in the back, leaning forward with his elbows resting on your seats when his brother speaks up.
“Holy….shit!” Tommy turns to you. “That was fucking awesome, are you kidding me? Joel, where the fuck did you find her?”
He’s still drunk, words slurring together, and he shakes both of your shoulders ferociously. You actually giggle — the sound of it is fucking adorable and Joel wishes that these are not the circumstances for hearing such a noise. He rather it be because of something he said, but he knows Tommy has always been more charming, even when drunk
“She’s my neighbor, Tommy.”
“No way! How come I’ve never seen you around before?” Tommy asks, and Joel can’t stop himself from rolling his eyes.
“I’m kind of new to the area,” you answer.
“Dammit, oh my god, Joel, I wish you coulda seen it.”
Joel looks over at you, and is thankful that he catches your eye. “What’d you say?”
“Never underestimate your negotiating power when the cop you’re talking to’s shift ended over an hour ago, and he doesn’t want to fill out any more paperwork.” You cross your arms, look over your shoulder at Tommy, who is leaning back against the seat with his head in his hands, laughing, before looking back at Joel. “I told you, I have experience.”
“Oh my god,” Tommy pokes his head back between you. “How’d he even get you to come down here? What’d he have to do, offer to paint your house or somethin’?”
“It’s a long story.”
“Sarah got locked out again,” Joel explained. “And I was over at her place when you called. She’s a corporate lawyer.”
“Ah, that makes sense. You know, Joel’s always liked the smart ones,” Tommy starts, and Joel has to contain the urge to slam on the brakes and send his brother face first into the back of his headrest. Unfortunately, he can’t do that with you in the car. “Too bad he’s dumb as a box of rocks.”
“Okay, watch yourself!” Joel snaps, and he’s only halfway kidding. “You got off easy, but you’re on fuckin’ thin ice, and I’m still pissed that I’m spending my night bailing you out again.”
Tommy doesn’t even catch on to Joel’s irritation – or maybe he does, and has just decided that he’s going to be the Annoying Younger Sibling and see how far he can push it. “Don’t let him fool you, okay?” Tommy continues, and you’ve angled yourself towards him, amused. “It’s not always him lookin’ after me. Before he had Sarah, he was crazy.”
“Alright, alright that’s enough, Tommy.” Joel shoots daggers towards his brother in the rearview mirror, and he watches Tommy’s smile falter, finally deciding to back down.
“Is that true, Joel, were you really crazy?” you ask after Tommy grows quiet, tilting your head. “I can’t see it.”
“Well we’ve all have our moments, right?” he says sheepishly.
“We do,” you agree, and then it’s finally silent.
Joel is thankful to see Tommy’s driveway straight in front of him, and his car lurches up the curb. “Alright, alright, this is your last stop,” he says to his brother. “You’ll get in okay?”
Tommy takes a deep breath, settling himself after all his bravado and sinking back against his seat. “I’ll be fine. I’ll see you tomorrow morning at Sarah’s game.” He slinks out of the truck and slams the door behind him.
Normally, Joel would’ve chewed him out after something like this, but he knows being hungover tomorrow at a middle school soccer game, sandwiched between screaming parents and the ear-splitting whistles of the referees will be punishment enough.
“I’ll see you then.” He watches his brother stumble up the steps to his home, unlock the door, and give a wave before disappearing inside.
Joel’s left alone with you. “Should we get you home, now?”
“Yeah, we should.”
Joel puts the car in reverse, puts one of his arms over the back of the bench seat to look for cars behind him, and catches you staring. You don’t even seem embarrassed that he notices, either, you just shift your gaze away to outside the window.
He feels a little self-conscious about the first impression he’s probably made, which is a feeling he’s not used to…caring about what people think.
“Sorry about him, he’s….a good guy but a real piece of work.”
You giggle. “Like I said, I have a brother, too.”
It’s been awhile since he’s interacted with anyone outside of Sarah, Tommy, and his coworkers, and his day was exhausting. He wants to ask more questions, see if he can hold some kind of conversation, but words fail him, so you spend the short drive on the way back home mostly in silence. You’re so quiet that by the time he pulls into your driveway, he thinks you might be asleep. If you were, he doesn’t even get the chance to wake you, because you immediately sit up straight once the truck has come to a halt.
“Thanks for everything tonight,” he says.
“You’re welcome, it was no problem,” you get out of the car, sling your bag over your shoulders, and close the door. “Have a good night.”
Joel’s listening to the retreating click of your heels up the driveway when he rolls down his window all the way to speak again. It’s clear you’re tired, your shoulders are slouched, and he feels incredibly guilty. You worked all day and then had to put up with his entire crazy family.
“Hey,” he says. “How much do I owe you for the pizza?”
You turn around, still stepping backwards. “Nothing.”
“Look, you’ve done too much for me tonight to say that,” he says. “I’m startin’ to feel bad.”
You stop in your tracks then, the smirk on your face fading a little bit as you slowly step forward to where he leans out the truck window. It’s only a few feet, but you’re much closer now than you’ve been to him all night, and there must be jasmine in your perfume. It smells expensive, he thinks, as your hands lift to rest on the door next to his elbow. “You shouldn’t feel bad,” you say softly, voice low.
God, you’re fucking beautiful, he realizes, basked in the glow of the moon, a smile creeping along the edges of your lips. Of course, he knew you were attractive, had definitely registered it at some point before –  maybe when he’d walked in on you and Sarah giggling in the kitchen. He was just too busy being worried to even notice until now.
This isn’t a date, but you’re so close he could kiss you, kind of wants to just to see what would happen, but he doesn’t. You’re his new neighbor, and if he’s reading this wrong, he doesn’t want to be reminded of the mistake everyday, first thing in the morning when you’re picking up your newspaper at the end of your driveway and he’s leaving for work.
“But uh…if it would make you feel better…one of the steps on my front porch is rotted. Maybe you could come over sometime and fix it? That a fair trade?”
Joel nods, and you stick out your hand. “It’s a deal,” he says, ignoring the jolt of energy he feels when your palms press together, like you’re a kid wearing a hand buzzer, trying to shock him.
“Great,” you step away. He’s about to put the car in reverse when you speak again.
“Oh, and Joel?” you ask, he looks back at you. Before you speak again, your eyes shift to the ground, like you’re mustering up the courage to ask him something, and when they return to his again, your expression is somber. “Go easy on Sarah….she’s a good kid.”
Joel nods, understanding.
“I know.”

Hiiii, Jade <3 How are you? Could you please write a single dad!au for Spencer? Pretty please, with a cherry on top :*
hi! I'm okay thanks so much, and ty for your request! I hope you like it ♥︎ single!dad spencer x fem!bau!reader
Amanda is, as you'd expect, a very small version of her father but without the photographic memory. She is a happy, lovely, caring sweetheart of a child, and everytime you see her, you think you might like to marry her dad.
There's something to be said for the heart of a parent. You look at Amanda and it amplifies every bit of Spencer's goodness, especially now when she's napping in Spencer's lap at his desk in the bullpen, completely at ease. He has one hand behind her back and the other stretched over to his desk.
"You know," Emily whispers, leaning against your desk with two hot cups of coffee, "he told me why he named her Amanda. It might kill you."
You take one of the coffees. "Thank you… Do I wanna know?"
Your crush on Spencer is common knowledge for everybody except him: he's a genius in everything beside social relationships.
"Amanda," Emily says quietly, "I don't remember the Latin word he definitely told us it's derived from, but I do remember what it meant. 'To be loved,' and 'Worthy, of love.'" She raises her eyebrows at you. "He said he wanted there to be no mistake. That she was loved from the beginning, and she always will be."
"Oh no," you say.
"Yeah."
"Are you kidding?" you ask.
Emily laughs as you cover your face with both hands, long sleeves pulled over your fingers. You hide away from the world and Spencer and his tiny pretty daughter and pray you'll be swallowed up by your uncomfortable chair.
"You'll be okay," Emily says. "Drink your coffee. Only six hours 'til we get to go home."
"I don't even really want coffee," you mumble, lips against the rim of your cup.
She pats your shoulder. You return to your work but absolutely can't focus. Ever since you started your job here at the bureau you've had the world's worst, most ridiculous crush on Spencer. There are a myriad of reasons why but the most important is that he talks to you. Everyday, all the time, he talks about things you'd never even heard of before, and he talks about the weather. He knows more about you than most people know and he shows it so subtly.
He links trade routes back to your favourite treats, because this boat got stuck in this place so there's going to be a short supply but he knows where you can get some and he can get them for you the next time he goes. He read this book lately by an author you'd definitely hate, but she talked about a different article Spencer thinks you'd love, so he forwarded it to your email last night. He and Amanda went to Niagara Falls last weekend — here's a mug with a rainbow waterfall on the side because he noticed your old coffee mug has a chip in the lip.
You scratch down a phone number wrong three times in a row and feel your eyes closing of their own accord. He makes it hard to think.
"Hi, Miss Y/N."
You look up from your things to find Amanda waiting still as a post by your chair.
"Hi, beautiful," you say. You look over her shoulder for Spencer and find nothing but files and computers and the click-click-clicking of twenty computers. "Dad's in the bathroom, huh?"
"Mm-hm."
"You want me to drag his chair for you?"
She shakes her head and rushes back to Spencer's chair, pulling it with her back to your desk. She struggles up into the chair and you pull her in, her shiny black shoes rubbing against your knee.
"Sorry," she says.
"No, that's okay, you don't have anything to be sorry for. These are nice shoes, baby, I think your dad's been spoiling you again."
"He says they make me walk faster," she tells you, "'cos they have ergo-domic shapes."
"Oh wow! You look amazing, you always dress so smart." You smile at her gently. "You want some dried fruit? I have mango, pineapple and apricot. Or I have a normal orange with all the juice," you offer.
She nods. You have no clue what she's nodding for so you give her the dried fruits and the orange and smile to yourself when she says a breathy thank you. She can eat all your snacks. You'd offer your moon cake if you weren't worried about her being allowed. Fruit is a safe bet.
She sits happily eating fruit for a while. You try to poke some light conversation out of her, how's school and how's their pet fish Mr. Banana, and is it fun to be at work with dad today?
"Hi."
You bite your own tongue. Amanda doesn't acknowledge her father beyond her head dipping back in wait of his hand. Sure enough, he reaches over the back of the chair and strokes her baby blonde curls, brown towards the ends. You imagine they'll be the same warm brown as his when she's older.
"Hey, Spencer," you say, crossing your hands over your tummy.
"Is everything okay?"
"Yeah. Why wouldn't it be?"
You're lying. He's a profiler. You both know both of those facts.
He squints at you playfully. "You should tell me if something's wrong."
"Dad," Amanda interrupts, "we have to… have to give people space." She offers him the dried fruit bag. "To tell us in their own time."
Despite the clumsy, adorable way that she says it, she has a point. Spencer bites back a smile, properly chastised, and takes the bag.
"What is this?" he asks.
"Sorry," you jump in, "I should've asked you first, I just didn't," —you lower your voice— "really know what to do. I'm not bad with kids. I'm, uh, not good with them, either, maybe."
"You're great with kids," he says. "Having a baby is complicated, but taking care of them once they get to Manda's age is easier. She just needs love and patience and regular feeding. You're one of the most loving people I know, and your patience is appropriate. And, you know." He passes back your bag of dried fruit. "You always have snacks in your desk."
His easy compliments warm your face. You cover your cheeks with your sleeves.
"Dad, you made her happy," Amanda says, pleased.
Spencer laughs and the sound lights you up from the inside out, reaching over the chair to lift Amanda into his arms. He pushes his hand into the small of her back and straightens out the skirt of her red dress. If you'd been paying attention, you'd notice the slight pink tint of a blush working over his ears and cheeks.
"Aw, Mands," he murmurs, "we really have to work on your context clues."
