btw not enough people are aware of the other triple reflex in Ancient Greek: the labiovelars
τέλος (→ telos, telic, teleology etc.)
πόλος (→ pole, polar etc., via Latin polus)
κύκλος (→ cycle, cyclic etc.)
– all of these words go back to different formations from the PIE root *kᵘel- 'to turn', with a different reflex of the initial labiovelar depending on the quality of the vowel in its immediate vicinity (*kᵘelos, *kᵘolos and slightly irregular *kᵘekᵘlos >> *kᵘₔkᵘlos > *kᵘukᵘlos respectively)
thus also Greek τίς = Latin quis 'who' (< PIE *kᵘis), Gk. ποῖος 'which' = Lat. quoius > cuius 'Gsg. who/what' (< PIE *kᵘosi̯os), as well as Gk. οὐκ < οὐκι 'no(t)' (< PIE *h₂oi̯u kᵘid) and so on

Different kinds of coques made in the Valencian style. Photos by Restaurant Pont Sec (Dénia, Central Valencian Country).

A coca de recapte. Photo by Forn Inalba bakery (Balaguer, Ponent, Catalonia).
Coques (singular: coca) are a traditional food eaten all around the Catalan Countries. It's a flat bread base similar to a pizza base and can have different toppings depending on what's in season in that time of the year. The most common toppings are tomato, peppers, aubergine/eggplant, garlic, onion, salted fish, local types of cured meat, pork sausages, and other local vegetables. Many towns or areas also have their own typical recipes.
The base can have a different shape depending on the area. In the central-south Valencian Country, they're round and so small that they can fit on a hand (like the photos included in this post). In Catalonia and the Balearic Islands they're usually big and rectangular with rounded edges, though some areas might also make them round.

(The areas coloured are approximate)
Even though the Neapolitan pizza is the one that has become famous all around the world thanks to the Neapolitan migration to the USA, this kind of flatbread base with toppings is a very common Mediterranean food since Ancient times. Different Mediterranean cultures eat variations of this idea.

Ancient Roman fresco found in Pompeii that depicts a table with food, including a flatbread that looks similar to a pizza, though of course with different ingredients (tomato wasn't known in Europe at the time).
Coca is different from pizza because the base is slightly different and we don't use tomato paste nor mozzarella as a base. If they have cheese, it's goat cheese as a topping, melted on top of the other ingredients.

There's a chilling documentary called Terra de Ninguém / No Man's Land (2012) about a Portuguese mercenary who first fought in the Colonial War, but who after the Carnation Revolution in 1974 was hired by the Spanish government to "hunt Basques" (he says it exactly like this) during their Dirty War against ETA, and then when that ended he was also hired by the CIA to hunt down suspected communist guerillas in South America.
It's very simple, just an old man sitting on a chair telling these things matter-of-factly. I share this with you precisely because of his time "serving" Spain. It's not meant to portray him in a good light, absolutely not, don't get the wrong idea (spoilers I suppose but in the end it says he died a few days before the documentary was released, so there's that at least).
This came to my mind because I saw a recent article on El País about how the murderer of Arturo Ruiz said he worked with the Guardia Civil to go after Basques in the 70s and 80s regardless if they were part of ETA or not. I mean this is common knowledge - that Spain hired former PIDE and OAS members to assassinate Basques - but they still like to deny it saying they were all terrorists and not civillians.
Really chilling, difficult to sit through at times, but if you can find it it's worth a watch.
Kaixo anon!
Thanks a LOT for the recommendation! Will look for it and definitely watch it ^_^

Pide is so called Turkish pizza but imho it’s a separate meal with its own flavour. It’s usually made of beef but mine with vegetables is even better 😌

“Parece que una siempre necesita un golpe más abajo, para garantizar que vale la pena soltar los remos.
El amor no se rema.
No se insiste.
No se busca.
No se pide.
No se regatea.
No se negocia.
No se espera.
No nada.
ΕΙ que te ama llega solito donde quiere llegar.
No hace falta que le tires una soga...”
