Please don't be afraid to speak up. You could be the reason one less animal is born just to be abused.

I love Leftism philosophically but I can't fxcking stand most Leftists. Stuck-up ignorant pricks honestly. It's frustrating.
If it doesn't fit into the existing orthodox narrative going around or preconceived notions about what is or isn't right or wrong - then it's completely written off. Doesn't matter if it's a congruent intersectional revolutionary idea or an established scientific fact - they WILL write it off as nonsensical.

The rise of vegan leather, which is typically made from polyurethane, a type of plastic that has a more favorable Higg rating, has brought unintended consequences, industry officials say. Even as leather is replaced by synthetics, Americans are still eating lots of beef 鈥 which means the hides from those slaughtered cattle have nowhere to go. In 2020, a record 5 million hides, or about 15 percent of all available, went to landfills, according to the U.S. Hide, Skin and Leather Association, a Washington-based trade group.
鈥淭hey鈥檙e throwing the hides in the offal barrels out back,鈥 said Ron Meek, a former meat processor who has been helping smaller plants weather the downturn in leather demand.

veganism has absolutely nothing to do with the land back movement. i hate to break this to y'all, but if you believe in moral veganism and believe nobody should use animal products, you are not fighting for native sovereignty. hunting and animal product usage is integral to the way of life of thousands of tribes and when we get our land back we will be continuing those practices.
capitalism and colonialism are the threats against land back, not animal agriculture, and dismantling that colonialism includes getting rid of colonial plant agriculture too. your dietary choice to not use animal products does not inherently make you supportive of land back and if you think it does then you do not have the full picture. colonial plant ag is no different from colonial animal ag in the way it damages our tribal land and sovereignty and animal products are important to that sovereignty. without that, we're just doing the same shit under different management.

Okay it's almost 2023, I think it's time we talked about the "vegans" who purposely inflict suffering onto animals by feeding them incorrect diets or not doing correct medical care. I think any good vegan who geniuely believes in the betterment of animals would NEVER purposely go out of their way to force feed incompatible pets vegan diets that can later cause suffering, illness and death. It is only ever done for their own personal ego and gratification and I personally see that as worse than using by-products. You're actively inflicting harm to cats, dogs and lizards when more suitable pets like rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters are RIGHT THERE. Who are already compatible with your belief system.
I own a cat who is under my care until he passes. I will ensure as he is a care dependent that I am maintaining his welfare and health by feeding him a meat diet even if I personally am vegan. He can not change his diet and I have owned him for over a decade so he will not be punished for my changes in life. After he is gone, I will likely rescue more rabbits (I have had 3 so far) as they fit my lifestyle and beliefs much more. But I will NOT enforce suffering on my cat just because his existence conflicts with my personal diet. I just won't own another cat after he is gone.
To me that is the true Vegan way. If you can go for alternatives in food then you can pick a different pet. If you are already committed to the care of an animal who needs to eat meat then it is more vegan to ensure the optimal health, wellbeing and happiness for the animal. Not to cause unnecessary harm and stress to an animal just because YOU personally do not like something. If you really find it distressing then rehome the animal to owners who will put their wellbeing and life above all else.

imagine comparing animal rights activism (veganism) to pseudoscience shit like astrology and magical thinking. acting like there isn鈥檛 mountains of scientific evidence pointing to the excessive harms of animal agriculture on both nonhumans and humans鈥 very cringe!
I don't know how to explain to you that this is exactly how they get you.
Something that has mostly solid evidence backing it is just as good a gateway to The Pseudoscience Abyss as something that isn't evidence-based at all. The danger is in the thinking patterns it can lead you to.
There's a lot of rhetoric among some vegan communities about how going vegan is The Solution To Almost Everything (the 'original sin' idea where problems can be traced back to one thing), how The Industry suppresses evidence and people who work in The Industry can't be trusted (this is the foundation of a conspiracy theory), how people are only against the solution because they prioritize self-gratification (conservative evangelicalism at work!), and there is...a lot of misinformation.
Veganism is in an especially potent position because of its appeal to people who have already swallowed the "clean eating/purify your body with Natural Food" pill. Natural Food is the biggest gateway into conspiracy shit, period.
And it's very much entangled in questions of morality and strong emotions from people, which means people are vulnerable to forgetting their brains.

The hard truth that no-one seems to want to accept is that shifting to a plant based diet is necessary if we want to mitigate the effects of climate change. Too many people seem to be waiting around for lab grown meat, but veganism is a choice you can make right now, every day, for the betterment of the planet.
