I am VERY not okay rn PAIMON MY DUDE 🥵
Tumblr media
Paimon and Leraye are wild man. I had a rough idea of what I thought their scenes would be like and they were pretty close to what I expected but completely swapped.

Translation: Eula and Collei in Secret Summer Paradise (Part 1, quest 1)
Game: Genshin Impact
Developer: HoYoverse
Fan Localization: Dusk
Specifically when Eula gets embarrassed over running into fellow knights Kaeya and Klee in Gandharva Ville, Sumeru.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fan Translation
Kaeya: I didn’t think going on this trip would make me run into the Captain of the Guerilla Company on vacation. What a coincidence.
Eula: …Why’s everyone here? Tch…*
Paimon: Didn’t she look kind of embarrassed just now…
Traveler: Don’t mind her so much.
Traveler: Anyone up for some afternoon tea?**
Collei: Ah, right, right! Yeah, let’s go!***
Eula: No need to do this even if you’re considering my feelings. You guys misunderstood. I’m not embarrassed about it.
Collei: If you say so…****
Official Translation
Kaeya: What a coincidence. I didn't expect to run into a fellow Favonian captain this far from Mondstadt. How's the vacation going?
Eula: ...Seriously? Bring the whole crew, why don't you? Tsk...
Paimon: Is it just Paimon, or does Eula not look particularly thrilled right now...
Traveler: Well since we're all here...
Traveler: ...Who's up for some afternoon tea?
Collei: Oh, cool! Great idea! Let's go.
Eula: If you're trying to accommodate me, there must be some misunderstanding. I'm fine. There's nothing embarrassing about running into colleagues in the wild.
Collei: Uh, but earlier you were…
Tumblr media
Translation Notes: Official translation provides some context for Eula’s embarrassment but also gives a different vibe with just a few minor changes (again). Eula’s company is the Guerilla Company in Chinese. The vacation part in Kaeya’s line is localized well though.
*Based on voice, dialogue, and expression, Eula seems embarrassed in Chinese (and Paimon also points out she seems embarrassed). But in the official English location she downright sounds hostile in words and voice (despite her expression) so Paimon says she doesn’t look “particularly thrilled”.
**Directly it’s “Everyone, let’s drink afternoon tea together” but the idea is that it’s a suggestion instead of request.
***Collei sounds kind of embarrassed in a “I don’t know what to do so thanks for getting me out of this awkward situation by suggesting we drink tea” way. Also, since it’s in Gandharva Ville, that’d imply she’s a host scrambling to please her visitors.
****This line is really vague because it’s not a full sentence. Directly speaking, it’s closer to “That’d better be the case for you…” but Collei looks away and mutters this to herself in a sad musing way while looking unconfident. Eula is rather straightforward in saying the Knights misread her being embarrassed, so Collei is probably thinking something like, “I’m trying to lessen the tension by offering to make afternoon tea for everyone but Eula declined my offer, which feels embarrassing, like I’ve done something wrong.”

if you only have to watch one (1) genshin lore video, I highly recommend this one. not because it's a beginner-friendly guide to those new to the lore (it's not), but because the vibes of this theory are immaculate and explains like... the kinds of things that fascinate me about the game
paimon is consecrated for consumption, in a eucharist way. blood is wine is memories is life is power. ambrosia for ascension. the blood to the traveler's bones
there are so many things in the game that seem like innocuous off-hand comments but when put into a bigger picture, is so ???
like. do you ever think about how paimon likes to eat slimes because they are pure elemental energy, and she functions as the traveler's conduit for the elements similar to a vision for vision-wielders (even though she is not a vision)
Tumblr media
and what does this mean for the traveler who is hinted to be a star? how much can they consume before they "collapse under their own gravity", so to speak
I really have nothing to add, I just wanted to share how much I love the vibes of the content of this video. this is peak genshin theorizing to me

after all of this tho i still think diluc sucks lol he still irritates me bc it’s clear the game wants you to sympathise and admire him sooooo bad and they lay it on soooo thick when i’m just like :/ no. lmao.
#x#gi posting#i don’t like the way this game consistently shoves down ur throat how ur Supposed to feel abt characters or whatever it’s so annoying#they use paimon as a mouth piece everytime and i’m just like ? no thanks#like they do it consistently w eulas whole story. like narratively the traveller DOES feel sorry and sympathetic towards eula when it’s like#but what if i don’t lol.#i get dilucs deal now though i had been ruminating on his like. motivations/goals for a while now and they make more sense now#his whole thing is to do with self righteousness and believing himself to be the only one able to enact justice into the world#so he neglects or at least has put to the side all other personal issues bc he believes only his vision/delivery judgement takes precedent#and that. is incredibly annoying in terms of his relationships w others#like what’s worse than a self righteous white man lmao. come on#(me being at my most unforgiving and bitter bc i’m a hater at my core£#also random thought but i think it sets up an interesting parallel between diluc - choosing to continue to sort of. enact his fathers legacy#perhaps at the expense of himself and his relationship w others? (in the sense that they do not take precedent !)#vs kaeya - choosing to… ignore(? lol) his fathers legacy/wishes bc of all the ties he has to mondstadt now#and how He actively maintains those familial and friendly relationships bc they’re what matters to him#and how that translates into kaeya more obviously / desperately hinting towards wanting an active/true reconciliation w diluc while diluc is#more like… willing 2 accept what they have as of now. at least until his job of playing judge jury and executioner on all threats to mond#or whatever is finally done (which it never will be lol)#anyways a lot of assumptions and leaps of understanding r made here but it clicks fairly well in my head so i’ll accept it for now#i’ll admit they were on more neutral terms than i thought. tbf not my fault consenting all the interactions#we’d had until this moment were either tense or actively antagonistic lmao#so yeah. sure they care for each other n want to reconcile 2 a certain extent#still only one person rlly putting in most of the work tho

So apparently English Paimon is the only one that has changed.
From what I’ve been reading, she is pretty much the exact same in other languages but for some reason ENG paimon is a bit more ruder.

im pretty partial on the dub i chose on the rest of my gameplay (jp) and its obvious since xiao's VA is already skilled enough to know the tone that fits him. though its interesting each dub interprets xiao in quite a variety of his characteristic; as most of them maintains his reserved outlook, jp has that spark of sass and confidence when he feels like it (it really has his struggle noises nail you in the head), cn takes the reserved more gently and accurate to his nature (a lot more tired and timid to vulnerability, casual), kr is a lot different but not far from eng, but it fits his maturity and he sounds older (he sorta has a playful tint, too).
what saddens me is not really the performance, but the subtle yet irritating inconsistency and potential hyv did on their characters' interactions and dynamic thats lost to translation. the eng subtitles may give you the basic context of something, but dialog-wise its much more than that (perhaps even more different on other subs), since jp cn kr has lots of meanings behind their writing. xiao addresses zhongli indirectly as rex lapis too in jp, and the latter had expressed concern as if he has been convincing xiao instead of stating the chasm's danger. ("do you really have to go?". theres lots of those coming from too. klee calling albedo as her brother instead of the typical Mr, same from ayaka to ayato, etc. its obviously not something easy for hyv to change and keep it all streamlined overall, but the chances were truly left unseen.
the dubs do definitely change the tone of characters yeah, and i've also been picking up on how much the lack of nuance the english dub has for honorifics changes how character interactions feel! all of the voice actors do good work, just some were given different direction than others and can't do much about localization choices.
zhongli for example has a decent amount of lines that are actually adages, old proverbs that add to his "wise elder passing on stories to the next generation" image. but in english, because we don't have the same cultural context or puns, a lot of that doesn't translate and it instead comes across as him rambling about boats. like, he is rambling, but there's more to it than what english dubs get.
another notable instance of translators having trouble with conveying layered dialogue that i can think of is during venti's story quest, where diluc and kaeya are having a discussion outside of angel's share. in english, we still get the overall idea that the two brothers are still having a disconnect but some of the details on how kaeya talks to diluc is lost. the english dub has them more directly confrontational whereas, if i understand correctly, the original chinese has kaeya using more double-meaning with his phrasing to express how he feels abandoned and diluc is being unintentionally blunt. which is why he's surprised with kaeya actually being so upset when diluc poked at him about drinking alone so often.
and yeah!! the klee thing is one that is so?? ashfhjdg i've seen a number of people be surprised to learn that klee and albedo are adopted siblings, because in english i believe one of the only instances (outside of events) of that being clear is on albedo's profile after you've boosted friendship with him and he calls klee his little sister. something that requires having albedo, which many people don't!
xiao's interactions definitely feel way different with context on what honorifics he is using in other translations. with how tight the update schedule has been and how the development team is being shuffled around between projects, i don't think the translators really have the time they need to cover those details.

No lie, if I miss something important from this event because I won't deal with Klee I'm gonna be upset. You have us dealing with Paimon opening her mouth every five seconds I refuse to deal with Klee.

Okay, I'm sorry for being gone but
Imagine having to deal with a bunch of people speaking ancient languages.
Like Bennett speaking ancient Deutsch to you (or genshin Deutsch lmaoalaka) or Xiangling speaking ancient Chinese (or genshin Chinese skakak) to you and you're just there standing awkwardly as even Google translate won't understand.
Or if we follow the saying that everyone speaks Teyvatian language and now everyone is speaking in the most gibberish words you've ever heard, you probably understand the aranara language more bro.
And that's where Paimon and the Traveller come in! The Traveller and Paimon would gladly translate for you! They have visited this world once after all.
And like the genshin people in your world just being shocked that so many people know so much about them??? Or when they find out the one who created them isn't you, but actually some guys called Hoyoverse? They'll be in such a crisis.
But of course, they know the difference between them and you. You made them feel alive, they created them, but you—made them feel life.
No matter how many people have played genshin, the only and truly person to have made them feel alive is you and you only. That's why you're their beloved Creator!
Wanderer, Abyss Order, Arlecchino, Capitano, Columbina, Pierro, Dainsleif, Ei, Zhongli, Venti and Nahida understands you other than the Traveller.
Everyone is kind of jealous, that the Traveller could just Snoop you away and help you out every time you need some translation. They want to do that too! But they can't...
Guess they'd just need to do other unethical ways to understand your otherworldly language huh?

FOR YOU I WOULD FALL FROM GRACE | LYNEY
Tumblr media
warnings blackmailing lol… AETHER PAIMON!!! 3.6k words!
previous chapter | masterlist | next chapter
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The bell chimes as the door of the flower shop swings open, and in comes strutting in Rosalie, all dazzling smiles and ostentatious jewelry. Even now, her brown locks are curled to perfection, framing her face beautifully. Even across her, you feel like you’re standing next to an Archon.
This time around, you don’t accidentally freeze the pot of flowers you’re holding from her bursting inside. But you might again tomorrow; Rosalie loves to test you.
Rosalie hums in approval. “Hm, very good, very good. Any customers today, ma chérie?”
“Just one. That guy really wanted to see you,” you reply, eyes fluttering shut as the woman ruffles your hair. You repress the urge to lean into it. “Was he the same guy you met in Café Lutece?”
Her face twists unpleasantly, haunted. “Oh, dear. Thank goodness I wasn’t here. Keep scaring him off.”
You bow your head. “Yes, Ma’am.”
Rosalie bent the law just to keep you, and you’re more than grateful for her generosity. In exchange, you pledged to work diligently for her. You knew that even your hardest efforts couldn't compare to the years of food and shelter she had provided, but this was the least you could do after she didn’t once hesitate to take you in when you confessed you were stranded and alone.
At first, you wanted to repay her by helping out in the kitchen, but you later find that your Vision isn’t the most perfect fit for it. Rosalie’s teeth could shatter from the amount of bread you’ve frozen at the slightest mistake. Your experience in battle doesn’t translate well in handling baking—the heat makes your actions rougher than intended. You get frustrated when you don’t get the results you want. You treat the kitchen like a battlefield. Your hands are too cold; they can’t handle the warm and hot temperatures well.
And the sight of fire… You don’t react to it nicely.
Rosalie suggested you help out in the flower shop. The thought of kneeling over for hours sounds like torture to the posture and grace you’ve perfected over the years, but you can’t quite be picky with under-the-table jobs and nice people who are willing to take care of an orphan who doesn’t know how to act like a normal child.
At least, with gardening, you’ve trained yourself to be more gentle with how you handle living beings. Your hands will always be calloused; they will always have the muscle memory of carrying weighty weapons and tossing them around like sticks—an immutable trait. But you’re trying.
Although Fontaine could never be the safest, it’s safer here. The Fatui don’t have reason to spy against a local flower shop; you’re away from prying eyes, and it isn’t too big of a change because this is still your home.
And you have been safe for years. Rosalie is nothing like The Knave. They have the same fierce protectiveness, but Rosalie is much warmer and open with her fondness, a stark difference from The Knave’s distance. You’re not quite sure how to act around either of them.
You try not to get yourself attached to Rosalie despite her endless hospitality. So long as you don’t reveal your past affiliations and the reason why your hands are rough and why your affections are clumsy, she wouldn’t throw you out. But if she ever does… those are what no attachments are for. You learned your lesson from last time.
“I’ll cook us dinner,” Rosalie sings, heading towards the back of the counter, where it’s connected to her house.
You return to your flower.
You were the one who planted it, and it pleases you to no end that it’s growing healthily. This is the first flower you managed to not— well, kill right off the bat. Or freeze right off the bat, really. The elemental power from your Vision is hard to control, and it certainly doesn’t help that you aren’t doing anything to do something about it, too afraid to even try.
The Lumidouce Bell. It means something about a desire to return. It speaks to you, but not because you long for it—gods no—but because you’ve seen it before. It was probably in a dream, or perhaps a vase back at home, maybe in the middle of the large dining table or in between the fingers of someone with lilac eyes.
The door lashes out once again, the familiar chime ringing in your ears. It had only been two hours since the last customer. Business is doing well today. In comes a floating pixie and a blond with a glow of gold. He’s furious.
“Paimon doesn’t know…” the pixie says, floating behind. “All she knows is that you don’t want to get involved with the Fatui but—” Your hands falter around the petals, “—they said their goals were different, right? What are we doing here again?”
“Paimon,” the blond sighs, and only then do you notice he’s holding a flower. It’s crushed and dried, but it’s supposed to resemble the pot of Lumidouce Bell by your side. “We can’t trust them just like that. We don’t know them.”
“Really…? You think so? Paimon doesn’t think they’re bad people.”
“They’re hiding a lot of things. I don’t want secrets—not anymore. Lyney and Lynette may seem harmless now, but once the time comes where our goals oppose each other’s—well.”
It’s been a while since you heard those names. A rush of nostalgia fills you. You hear about them in passing when your (rare) customers gush about their performances, or ladies passing by giggle about the charming young man in the center of the stage, but that’s about it. To think that these two know that they’re affiliated with the Fatui…
Who are they? They look so familiar, like you’ve seen them once and then never again. Were they sent here? What did they do to be involved with the Fatui? No ordinary person would casually indulge in a conversation about the Fatui like that. There is usually a lot more secretive whispers and cautious glances around the crowd.
“Paimon gets it now,” she says, but she doesn’t look too happy with it. It seems she’s really fond of the twins—which you know all too well.
“Besides,” Aether pats her head, then hands her the flower, wondering out loud, “We don’t even know what this flower means.”
As if following a poorly-written script, both pairs of eyes direct to yours. Like they were expecting you to listen in just for that. At your stunned silence, they wait patiently.
“Um—yes. Lumidouce Bells often mean separation or the wish for reunion,” you recite like a good florist, recalling the words straight from the textbook. “Would you like a copy of a book about Fontaine’s Floral Language, sir?”
He waves a dismissive hand. “No thanks. Was just curious.”
The pixie nods her head, studying the flower in her hand. “Yeah! For all we know, this could’ve been some secret code! Apparently not. But wish for reunion…? Paimon heard Lyney only uses that flower. Does he know about its meaning?”
That name again. It seems that their main topic this afternoon is the twins. You want to crawl out of your skin and bury yourself in the soil. You thought you had moved on, but just hearing about him feels as if listening to strangers talk about a friend you’ve lost—not too far off from the truth. The guilt has not left you since; who were you kidding?
“He probably doesn’t mean anything by it,” the boy murmurs. “I mean—I don’t know. I don’t know anything about them. Is Lyney truly a magician? Is Lyney even his name?”
“Snezhevich,” you murmur out of instinct. Son of snow. You’re surprised that you even remember; it’s been years since you tasted the word on your tongue.
The blond hair and the floating pixie are staring right at you, the man slamming an arm on the counter desk and the little one moving her hands to her hips. “How do you know that?” he asks.
You pale. “I—excuse me?”
“I heard it,” he says. “Those surnames… They’re for the orphans in the House. How do you know that?”
Your heart pounds. You want to ask him the same question, but then, upon closer inspection, you realize why they’re familiar. They’re the Traveler and his travel companion, posted all over magazines. You’ve used one of those papers as placemats for dirty work involving soil, catching glimpses of their faces. The Outlander, the hero, Aether, having come all the way from Mondstadt—of course he knows about the Fatui; he has probably gotten himself involved more than you have.
“Don’t think about lying,” Aether warns at your silence.
Weakly, you say, “Is—is it not… in their introductions?”
“No.” And, well, honestly, that was a stupid cover, so you should’ve expected that. They’re only for the orphans, and he’s right. Even when he’s not a local, he seems to know his facts. Locals are getting smarter, dammit.
“Lyney told me,” is what you decide on after a split-second of contemplation. Aether isn’t giving you enough time to come up with a lie here.
“Told you?” Aether narrows his eyes, studying your face. “Why would he tell you about that? He hasn’t even told me. Are you two close?”
Paimon gasps before you can comment about how Aether sounded like an insecure boyfriend. “Is it…like that?”
You blink at her, lost. “What? Like what?”
At Aether’s conspiratorial expression, your eyes dart between the two of them warily. “What are you two on about?”
“Are you and Lyney romantically involved?”
Romantically involved. You think back to all those sidelong glances and allusive remarks. Lyney was definitely and monumentally involved in your life, but romantically? Even the word feels forbidden. Not once have you thought about romance throughout your entire experience as a child under the protection of the House.
Your face feels like lava, and their crowded attention has you feeling even more embarrassed. “How could you even come up with that? Mortifying! You’re both wrong!”
“What else would it be? You seem to know him well.” Then, much to your embarrassment, Aether adds, “And you’re not bad-looking.”
Is the Outlander calling you pretty enough for Lyney to date you? Right now? Just thinking about the implications has your mind screeching to a halt. “No! I was an orphan there!”
“Ah,” Aether grins widely, “I knew it.”
“Gods,” you mutter, burning. Of course he already figured it out. But was that really necessary? “Is this how you interrogate everyone? Embarrassing them to death?”
Aether shrugs. “If it works, it works.” At whatever expression you must be making, he adds, “And I was just kidding about the romantically involved thing. I mean, unless you aren’t denying it. By the look on your face—”
“Enough. Just spit it out. What do you want?” You’ve gotten awfully rusty with dealing with people. Then again, you were rarely sent out on missions in the first place, so this blame is not for you to take. You curse out The Knave’s name and then feel terrible about it.
“What are you even doing here, huh? Undercover?” Paimon sneers. She fails to look even slightly intimidating. “Do you own this shop?”
“No. I work here.”
“Does your boss know about the whole Fatui thing?” Aether asks. You stare at him warily. If he dares to harm Rosalie, you won’t hesitate to fight dirty. “That seems like a no. If you cooperate with me, I won’t tell whoever is taking care of you.”
“You’re blackmailing me.” You laugh dryly. “I guess I can never run from my past for too long; I just didn’t think I’d be blackmailed by the Outlander himself to face it.”
Aether has at least the decency to look a bit guilty.
“Why do you want to know about the twins so bad?”
Aether’s shoulders hike up to his ears just a little. “Lyney and Lynette… they’re very dependent on each other, aren’t they? The Fatui are not good people—they’re powerful ones, too, and getting involved with power like that while you have your family,” Aether’s expression does something complicated, “It never ends well.”
“You’re blackmailing me into helping the twins out?”
“I’m not trying to— Listen, I just need to know if they’re hiding something else from me. Something that tells me that I shouldn’t be trusting them, then we’ll decide if I’m helping them out or not.”
…Something else? “They already told you a lot, haven’t they? You just have trust issues, hero.”
“It’s perfectly reasonable to have trust issues as a hero.”
Aether inches closer. Your hand twitches by your side, instincts screaming at you to pull out your weapon and flee; the man before you is danger, but you don’t.
Aether hums at your wariness. “And you talk like you know them well. Do you have something you want to say to me, retired Fatuus?”
“I told you, didn’t I? I used to be an orphan in the House of the Hearth,” you say, not wavering with how he holds your gaze. This is no lie; you have no reason to falter. “But that’s not my life anymore. For all I know, they’ve completely changed goals.”
Aether’s shoulder sags because he knows you’re right. There wouldn’t be a way for you to know if the House is still operating with the same objective. If he’d really believe the words of a former Fatuus is a completely different story, however.
Aether sighs. “…It’s not right to call me a hero in this situation.”
“Oh?”
“I’m doing this for selfish reasons.”
Aether hesitates. Does he think you know nothing about selfishness? You ran from the House that took care of you because of your cowardice. You’re plenty familiar with selfishness.
“Mhm,” Paimon nods, “the Traveler wants to know if they’re hiding something about his sister.”
“Paimon,” Aether admonishes, then wilts.
“Oh no!” The fairy’s face pales, her hands coming up to her mouth. “Was Paimon not supposed to say it right away?”
“It’s fine.” It’s not fine. You can see it in the lines between Aether’s brows, his tense shoulders, and his sharp glare to the floor. “You already blurted it anyway.”
“Your sister,” you repeat, conjuring an image of a girl with the same gold as Aether, the same hardheaded determination. What is it with you and getting into trouble with brothers? “I’ve never heard anything about your sister during my time there.”
Aether shrugs. “That doesn’t surprise me. I only arrived here not too long ago, and from what I’m getting, you were already out of the orphanage.”
“So you think Lyney knows something?”
“I know The Knave knows something.”
How strange. Aether’s certainty that their ‘Father’ would confide in them everything, imply that Lyney is privy to information that only the Harbingers would keep to themselves.
You had this same thought before: Lyney, someday Harbinger, someday who would take Arlecchino’s throne. Now, you feel empty thinking about it. It used to fill you with so much rage before.
You turn away from Aether so he won’t see your face. Your previous affiliation with the House shouldn’t matter anymore—you’ve long since abandoned that life. You shouldn’t care about what the upstanding hero would want with them.
You shouldn’t.
Yet you end up fearing what this Outlander will do if they find out the darker secrets of the House that the orphans have to task themselves with. It’s never the children’s fault. But as a hero in a storybook, they rarely have pity for the bad guys.
If Aether finds out anything remotely wrong, what would he do to them…?
You sigh heavily. “I’ll prove to you that you’re wrong about whatever you think of them.”
Aether smiles. “That’s all I needed to hear.”
Rosalie comes out of the counter’s back door a few moments later, holding two plates of dinner. She stares blankly at your frozen figure and Aether’s slack posture.
She hands you the plates. “I’ll get two more.”
Rosalie disappears back into the kitchen, a bright smile on her face as she leaves the scene. There was a skip in her step, too.
You settle the plates down in front of Aether and Paimon. “Would you like to stay for dinner?”
Paimon gasps in delight.
When Rosalie comes back out, she’s fluttering all over the place, gushing over how adorable your new friends are. She then goes into a tangent about how she was right in telling you that you have a charming personality, and it was about time people realized that.
“Rosalie,” you murmur, steaming from the ears.
Rosalie laughs heartily. “Oh, you’re so cute. Do you kids have any plans tonight?”
Aether casts you a glance. “We’re going to watch Lyney the Magician’s show tonight if that’s alright.”
You breathe in deeply. Aether sure works fast. You haven’t even prepared yourself for the little chance you were going to be forced to face Lyney again. You expected it on much more personal, grudge-driven circumstances, with Lyney taking you in for The Knave to deal with.
Rosalie sips from her glass, turning to you. “Why didn’t you tell me you wanted to watch it, mon ange? I also would have taken you to watch Mr. Lyney.”
“They came over to give me their spare ticket,” you say before she can start thinking deeply about Lyney, but it doesn’t work.
“Ah, I see! Well, have fun.” She grins. “I’ve heard only good things about Mr. Lyney.”
You down the rest of your drink, wishing it was the strong taste of alcohol instead of the sugary sweet Fonta.
Rosalie gasps, hands on the table as she stands. “Oh! Let’s get you changed for tonight’s show! What if Mr. Lyney’s show picks you as a chosen participant? You have to make him and the audience fall in love with you, Y/N!”
“None of those are necessary,” you say, nearing a whine. It’s embarrassing to have her say that while Aether and Paimon are right in front.
“This is the first time you’re going out—let me please dress you up!” Sometimes, Rosalie acts more like a big sister than a mother.
Rosalie turns to Aether, already pushing you out of your chair. “Give us ten.”
Aether is smiling, looking as if holding in laughter. “Don’t worry. We aren’t going anywhere; we made a deal.”
After rummaging through closets and spilling dresses all over Rosalie’s bed, you're soon ushered out of the door. You witness Paimon's jaw dropping and Aether's eyebrows shooting up to his hairline.
“Whoa…!” Paimon gasps.
“Please spare me from any more comments,” you say, face hot.
Your dress, while nothing as grand as the rest of richer Fontaine women, is still grander than your loose blouse from before. It flows all the way down and drapes gracefully down your legs in a deep shade that blends in seamlessly with those who walk past the busy streets of Fontaine.
Thankfully, they oblige. You can’t handle any more—too much have you a puddle on the spot, and in the most humiliating way possible. Rosalie bids you all farewell, telling Aether to bring you back home before ten.
“I don’t think you can be home before ten,” Aether mutters as he leads you outside.
You hide behind his figure, uneasy from the curious stares of the passersby. It could be because you’re walking next to the renowned Traveler, but a part of you thinks that they know who you are. For all you know, there could be wanted posters of your face, and you wouldn’t know because you don’t go outside.
Aether turns to you. “Can you move comfortably?”
“This corset is a little too tight.”
Aether takes your hand and leads you somewhere off to the side, away from any onlookers. Then, he moves behind you and helps with loosening the corset. You look off to the side and swear that you saw a figure dash past, as nimble as a cat, but that was probably nothing.
“Should we rip off the length, too?” Paimon asks.
“No!” you exclaim, startling the two. “No, it’s fine. This is not my dress. Are you going to make me fight Lyney?”
Aether shrugs. “If worse comes to worse.”
“I’m in heels.”
“If worse comes to worse,” Aether repeats, tying the ends in a neat little ribbon.
“I wasn’t aware that you would start blackmailing me this early on.”
Aether smiles grimly. “There are no warnings when it comes to that.”
You perform a twirl in the new adjustments, twisting around, finding it much more breathable than compared to when Rosalie treated it like her usual fitting.
“Good?” Aether asks.
“Good.”
The conversation doesn’t die down, but it’s much more stiff than before. Paimon tells you that she liked your muddy apron better, and you wish you could agree. But this is who you really are. Nothing genuine like the soil staining your washed-out apron and your hands, or the Lumidouce Bell by the counter you’ve watched grow, but a dress that doesn’t belong to you for a mission that you have to fulfill to save other people who wouldn’t even recognize what you’ve done.
The Opera Epiclese, though you’d never been, looks the same as all the stories you’ve heard about it. Filled with a lively audience, the atmosphere dimmed, and your breath held in anticipation as Aether led you to vacant seats. You sit on Paimon’s supposed seat.
You face Aether. “What now? What do you want me to do? Strut back into their lives and demand all their Fatui secrets as if I never left?” you whisper hastily as all the lights flicker off.
A spotlight centers on the stage.
Aether nestles into his seat. “Prove to me that I can trust them just as much as you do. Who knows, you might get something out of this, too.”

Characters: Zhongli, Traveler (unspecified), Paimon
Warnings: Generally fluffy. Paimon is unknowingly a bit transphobic at one point but she apologizes in the end. Zhongli connects gods/religion to gender (in an inclusive light) as an ex-Archon.
Notes: Chinese dialogue/script with English translation. For clarification, please see translation notes at the end on pronouns in Chinese.

Zhongli’s Gender Identity (Headcanon)
English Translation
Zhongli: If you mean “gender” then… Please refer to me with the pronouns “ta”.*
Traveler: “Ta”? May I ask if you mean the male or female… Wait, unless, you mean the gender-neutral one, Zhongli-xiansheng?
Zhongli: “Male”… “Female”… “Gender-neutral”..?
Paimon: Wha? Do you not understand the concepts of male and female, Zhongli-xiansheng?
Zhongli: Is it perhaps a type of “contract”?
Paimon: Wha? Uhh… Hey, help Paimon out here, Traveler!
Traveler: “Contract”… I guess you can say “gender identity” is “a contract with yourself”… I think…??
Zhongli: Hm?
Traveler: Feeling like you’re male or female… non-binary… Uh, wait, I mean—
Zhongli: As you already know, Yanwang Dijun processes both a human form and a dragon form. Concepts such as gods or humankind… I merely wish to know what it means to be a “mortal”.
Traveler: Haha, alright then. Zhongli-xiansheng is just Zhongli-xiansheng.
Paimon: See! Now that’s easier to understand! Hehe.
Traveler: You know, gender identity is actually a really complicated concept, Paimon.
Paimon: Wha… What’s with that look in your eye…?**
Zhongli: A “look” in one’s “eye”… I’ve yet to understand the concept of “gender”… However, Adepti and humans both live under the “eyes” of the gods and others. Deity or mortal, male or female… Everyone has the, ahem, “freedom” to sign “a contract of identity” with themselves.*** Heh… Perhaps this is how that Windborne Bard would put it… Hm? And why do you shed tears at this, Traveler?
Traveler: It… It’s nothing. I’m just… kind of touched. That was a wonderful speech, Zhongli-xiansheng…
Paimon: Oh… Paimon’s very sorry for saying that to your face, Zhongli-xiansheng… Paimon will think before she speaks from here on…

Translation Notes
*他/她/它 — Mandarin Chinese equivalents of the English he/she/it pronouns all have the same pronunciation of “ta1”.
In my experience, “ta” (written using English letters) is commonly used as a third-person gender-neutral pronoun in Chinese.
(Less common is x也, which uses the character on the left found in 他/她 but replaces the gendered radical on the left with the neutral x).
Since in spoken Mandarin Chinese, the three listed pronouns are all pronounced the same, Zhongli and the Traveler have a little misunderstanding.
**There’s a significant wordplay in Chinese that’s difficult to convey in translation.
In the Chinese line, Paimon uses the term 眼神 in “为… 为什么用那种「眼神」看我…?” This is translated to “What’s with that look in your eye…?”
The term is made up of the hanzi characters for “eye” and “god” (the same characters in the Chinese term for a Vision, 神之眼, literally “Eye of God”).
Zhongli also uses 眼神 in the line “「眼神」… 可是仙家与人类双方都活在众神与他人的「眼神」之下” . This is translated to “A “look” in one’s “eye” … However, Adepti and humans both live under the “eyes” of the gods and others.”
Previously I had tried translating it to “Why… Why are you looking at Paimon like that?” and “‘Looking’ at someone … However, Adepti and humans both live under the ‘eyes’ of the gods and others” but the wordplay didn’t work very well.
***In the original Chinese line, Zhongli says “每个人都拥有,嗯,「权利」与自己定下「身份的契约」。” 权利 refers to a “right” (to define one’s own identity, in this context), but Zhongli uses it to mean “freedom”, which he recognizes is Venti’s ideal as an Archon. This is why he hesitates to use it, and also why he indirectly refers to Venti (“that Windborne Bard”) immediately after.

— thoughts of saccharine.
two cubes of sugar for each daydream.
#STARRING: wanderer, kaveh, alhaitham, cyno, tighnari, wanderer w/ gn!reader.
#GENRE: fluff, crack-ish but that's just how i write fluff, headcanons/hcs.
#NOTES: mentions of kisses, one implied injury but nothing graphic, cyno's reader isn't a qualified doctor (sorry to the med students).
#THOUGHTS: comically enough, i spent more time on the formatting than the writing itself. maybe i'll play around with them more often? anywho, here is a little smth before fontaine and while i work on other stuff per usual! ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა

Tumblr media Tumblr media
thinking about . . . how wanderer says he 'could care less' about what you do or where you go, always averting his gaze with that disinterested look. it's true, he hates getting caught up in people's business but good riddance, why does he find himself sticking to your side? maybe, he finds your company tolerable (preferable) or that he might even possibly harbor worry for your safety. the wanderer doesn't have a definite answer to this and so, all he can do is insist that he is only here to make sure you don't do anything 'stupid' — yet, he stays so close to you that he could've reached out for your hand if he wished. right, if only pride wasn't an option.
thinking about . . . how wanderer drums his cold fingers on your bare skin while knowing that they are as cold as ice, for a puppet is bereft of humanly warmth, just to incite a reaction out of you. whether it be little yelps, flinches or frowns, he'll drink them all up with an amused snicker. "too cold?" he'd ask oh-so teasingly — but bring his hands up to your lips and press a kiss to them, then you'd see how his eyes dilate and his lips quiver. who's got the upper hand now? (you do, before he snatches his hand away flusteredly and calls you 'an impulsive fool', that is.)
Tumblr media
thinking about . . . how you're the first person kaveh looks for when it comes to everything (literally). sorry, he can't help it; but if you think it's good, then it must be really good, right? his clothes today, menu suggestions, your opinion on a performance you saw at the bazaar together and more — but oh, his architecture drafts can be a different story because he gets pouty with those. (just give him a kiss and it'll wipe itself away, easy peasy?)
thinking about . . . how kaveh would set aside some mora with you in mind. when it comes to food or other expenses, he complains about them with no reservations — but your favorite dish? or the item you were eyeing the other day? knowing that you will tell him not to trouble himself, he can only beg the traveler and paimon to keep quiet when he keeps stumbling into them when he's out buying a secret gift for you. seriously, why does this always happen to him? (huh, who would've thought that kaveh finally learnt a bit more about financial management thanks to you? "how surprising," a certain someone with gray hair and green clothes comments.)
Tumblr media
thinking about . . . how instead of one, there are two mugs on alhaitham's kitchen table every morning. as an early bird, he knows that hydration is something much needed in the morning, so he always prepares two; one for his daily dose of caffeine and the other for your preferred drink. you never recalled asking him to do so — "and you didn't," he affirms, he just gradually incorporated it into his routine. alhaitham states it's for efficiency because he can handle sleepiness somewhat better than you (how offensive). but maybe, the way you always sleepily press a kiss to his cheek as thanks meant something too.
thinking about . . . how alhaitham lets out just the quietest sigh of relief when he realizes you're the one entering his office and not a colleague. for someone so diligent about work (he never claimed he is), he sure perks up when you visit him at work. ask him about it and alhaitham will say that he doesn't know what you're talking about — but the moment you go behind the desk and offer yourself for him to lean on, believe it or not, he melts into you so easily. (...just a little, though.)
Tumblr media
thinking about . . . how cyno places his hood on your head when no one is around. you're not a hanger for hats, but he says that you're "cap-tivating" so it makes sense (please send help). regardless, the general does it as his own unique form of affection; he only ever takes off his head accessory around people he trusts and he thinks you look adorable with it on. not to mention, it also has his scent so he's technically marking you as his territory. relax, he's just joking. (or is he? just make a note to ask about his shampoo next time... unless he's into that all-natural stuff.)
thinking about . . . how as a general, cyno is used to speaking in a clear and precise tone with his subordinates and co-workers. but when he's here, sitting beside you while your nimble fingers make light work of bandaging his arm, his lips can't part themselves to say anything else besides a "sorry" mumbled with a pang of guilt. you tell him it's alright as long as he comes home to you at the end of the day and he refuses to be treated by anyone else ever since. ("sir, but they're not a qualified doctor." "...your point is?")
Tumblr media
thinking about . . . how tighnari's tail always seems to have a mind of its very own; curling around your leg or wrist almost idly, almost as if it's just second nature when you're near enough to be reached. you have a suspicion that he's trying to communicate an unspoken wish — but ask tighnari about it and he'll say it just does that sometimes. you're pleasantly shocked he didn't ask if you sniffed any odd mushrooms that day (...you didn't, you think).
thinking about . . . how tighnari gives your head a little pat after you complete a task he gave (or didn't give) you. finished sweeping the floor? pat, pat. taught collei how to do her homework? pat, pat. oh, you rearranged the bookshelf when he complained about not having time for it last night? pat, pat, pat. at this point, you don't even know if he realizes he does this — but really, this is just a way to say that he's proud of you without being too overly mushy. no, it's not patronizing and no, he isn't going to admit that he has a soft spot for you in a professional setting. though, the way he'd pull back his hand at the speed of light when a ranger walks in on his patting you is a little funny.

" Letting Neuvillette Ramble to You About Water Tasting "
Tumblr media
You and Neuvillettes relationship was interesting. Neither of you really acknowledged you were close, but you talked about different topics together in his office when he was able to. Today was no different.
You were sitting on one of the blue couches as Neuvillette sat at his desk. He held an interesting looking cup and swirled the contents inside it, like usual when you saw him with the cup. He took a sip before you inquired something to him. "Monsieur Neuvillette, I see you drink from that cup when you're seemingly thirsty, what do you have in said cup?" You ask, leaning back on the couch and crossing your arms as you look at Neuvillette, tone curious as you quirked an eyebrow. He hums as he sets the glass down and answers after he drinks the liquid in the cup.
"I have water in the cup, why do you ask?" He replies, looking over to you with his typical stoic face. You shrug.
"I'm just curious as to why you have such a fancy cup for water, and didn't want to assume you drank wine," you answer. "What is the reason, by the way?" You added.
"I like to drink the water of different regions, they all have different tastes if you savor the flavor of them. This particular one is from Inazumian waters, would you like to try it?" Neuvillette asks, looking at you with an unreadable emotion in his silver, dragonic eyes. You nod without much thought and get up from the couch, walking over to Neuvillettes desk. You look at the cup and back at Neuvillette, silently asking permission even though he recommended the idea. He nodded, and you took the cup gently in your hand. You look into the water, seeing your reflection in the ripples and you take a sip. After a moment, you set the cup down after you swallow the water, sighing afterwards.
"I don't exactly taste anything different, Monsieur Neuvillette, other than maybe a slight difference," you say bashfully, crossing your arms with a slight smile. Neuvillette nods.
"As suspected, the Traveler and Paimon said the same," he says, taking the cup back and drinking the rest of the water. He starts to talk about the differences of the water's taste from all 7 of the different regions. You decide to let him talk and lean on his desk slightly, listening intently and trying to understand to the best of your abilities and nodding along as he explains.
He talks for about half an hour before his rambling comes to an end and lands his eyes on yours. He clears his throat before speaking. "My apologies, [name], I did not realize I may have talked a little much about this topic," Neuvillette apologizes. You let out a breath of laughter and wave a dismissive hand.
"It's quite alright, Monsieur Neuvillette, you were simply explaining things to me, explaining your hobby," you answer. Neuvillette sighs.
       "Still, I apologize," he says.
After a moment, Sedene came in to inform Neuvillette of an upcoming case, saying hello to you when she saw you. As you say goodbye to the Melusine and the Iudex, you're finally realizing that maybe you and Neuvillette are closer than you two realize. ✧

The 72 Demons Of The Ars Goetia
This will be multi parts and in each one we will be going over each branch of them "whoop whoop" let's get cracking
Starting off the 72 demons of the ars goetia are the amalgamation of the Occult Writings from the 15th century. Compiled into one text in the 17th that is where we get what is now known as the Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis or simply The Lesser Key Of Solomon. Due to many translations spelling changes depending on region and personal preference for the author.
Let's start the Journey with the KINGs Of Hell
Baal (Bael): is the first king of hell with estates in the east and commander of 66 legions. This King is distinguished by his three heads, One of Toad , One Of Man, and One Of Cat. He teaches the art of invisibility and the power to Garner The Favor of Others. He also rules over Love and Science.
His Symbol
Tumblr media
As with most Spirits in the Goetia they prefer people who are clever and intelligent. Someone who is willing to put in the work instead of relying entirely on the power of the deity
Paimon(Paymon): one of the kings of hell with estates in the NorthWest he is the ruler of 200 legions of demons. Paimon is depicted as a man with an effeminate face, wearing a precious Crown, and riding a Dromedary. He is said to roar upon arrival and speak in a loud voice until asked a question from the caster. Paimon teaches all arts, philosophies, and sciences, and secret things; he can reveal all mysteries of the Earth, wind, and water, what the mind is, and where it is, and everything the conjurer wants to know.
His Symbol
Tumblr media
To summon him it is common practice to have a Sacrifice prepared, usually one of personal significance to the caster.
Beleth: one of the Truly Mighty and terrible kings of hell he is the ruler of 85 legions of demons. Beleth is depicted riding a war house and is said to have Loud music blaring as he arrives. He is said to look terrifying upon arrival and will attempt to frighten the caster to see if they are brave.
His symbol
Tumblr media
When summoning him it would be best to hold a silver ring on your left hand middle finger to your face, as to show him his respect due to his rank in the infernal realm.
Purson: One of the Great Kings of Hell, being served and obeyed by twenty-two legions of demons. Purson is depicted as a man with the face of a Lion, carrying a Viper in his hand, and riding a bear. He is commonly associated with the AntiChrist. His powers include knowing all hidden things, discovering treasures and divination (telling all things from past, present and future). He can take on a human or astral form.
His Symbol
Tumblr media
He represents the sun and the moon and symbolism from both is best when beginning his summoning. I.E Silver and Gold Jewelry and coloring
Asmodeus(Asmoday): One of my personal favorites, he's the one I have the strongest relationship with out of all of the demons in the Ars Goetia. Labeled as The Thirty-second Spirit He is a Great King, Strong, and Powerful. He appeareth with Three Heads, whereof the first is like a Bull, the second like a Man, and the third like a Ram; he hath also the tail of a Serpent, and from his mouth issue Flames of Fire. His Feet are webbed like those of a Goose. He sitteth upon an Infernal Dragon, and beareth in his hand a Lance with a Banner. He is first and choicest under the Power of AMAYMON, he goeth before all other. He teaches the Arts of Arithmetic, Astronomy, Geometry, and all handicrafts.
Tumblr media
When summoning him be respectful he has a soft spot for academics and is a true wonder of a friend to have on your spiritual journey, just don't wear hats around him.
Vine: is an Earl and also a King of Hell, commanding 36 legions of demons. This demon is portrayed as a Lion holding a snake in his hand and riding a black horse. He can tell present, past, and future, discover witches and hidden things, create storms and make the water rough by means of them, and also bring down walls and build towers.
His Symbol
Tumblr media
Acts as an elemental guide unto those who may seek to attack you. Vine is also a divinatory spirit who will also brings initiatory knowledge to Wizards, Witches and hidden aspects. Summon him if you wish to learn more about the Occult.
Balam:is a great and powerful king of Hell who commands over 40 legions of demons. Balam is depicted as being three-headed. One head is the head of a bull, the second of a man, and the third of a ram. He has flaming eyes and the tail of a serpent. He carries a hawk on his fist and rides a strong bear. At other times, he is represented as a naked man riding a bear. He gives perfect answers on things past, present, and to come, and can also make men invisible and witty.
His Symbol
Tumblr media
From the Daemonolatry Goetia by S. Connolly
“Invoke Balam to get over social awkwardness or to find the inner reasons for shyness or discomfort. Leave a piece of gold in offering to Balam (And his sigil) on the altar to keep magickal works secret until they manifest the desired results.”
Zagan: A Great King and President of Hell, commanding over 33 legions of demons. Zagan is depicted as a griffin-winged bull that turns into a man after a while. He makes men witty; he can also turn wine into water, water into wine, and blood into wine as well as blood into oil, oil into blood, and a fool into a wise man. Other of his powers is that of turning metals into coins that are made with that metal (i.e., gold into a gold coin, copper into a copper coin, etc.).
His Symbol
Tumblr media
Turns things into their opposites. Invoke to help curb addictions and bad habits or make delusional people (or dabblers) to see the truth. Zagam rites are a Daemonolatry Keeper ritual
Belial:He is a King of Hell with 80 legions of demons and 50 legions of spirits under his command. He was created as the first, after Lucifer. He has the power to distribute senatorships and gives excellent familiars. He takes the form of Two Beautiful Angels sitting in a Chariot of Fire.
His Symbol
Tumblr media
He must be presented with offerings, sacrifices, and gifts, or else he will not give true answers to demands.
Always when working with these entities show them great respect and take into considerations that the majority of these are gods from other cultures that have had there meanings shifted over the years to be perceived as demonic. Treat them with kindness and respect and for the most part they will treat you the same. Do your research and learn. Learn more everyday and don't forget to have fun. The occult is a wonderful and beautiful thing and I hope to take you on more journeys with me.
We will continue this next time when we go over the Dukes of Hell.
Thank you for being here with me and having tea with me on the other side of the Great divide :)
