SO WITH THAT HM POST REBLOGGED FROM @empatheticsadist490
I FOUND ABOUT THE HATBOX GHOST HAVING A BABY/TODDLER GHOST FOR SON FIGURE IN THE DISNEY XD STOP MOTION HALLOWEEN SHORTS WHO HAPPILY HELPS HIM HAUNT MORTALS AND COUNTS AS HIS FAMILY GOING TO HIM WHEN ASKED WHERE IS HIS FAMILY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND THE 2ND TIME HE APPEARS IT IS TO HELP HIM SCARE AWAY MORTALS AGAIN AND IT'S ABOUT FINDING "THE BRIDE'S RING" (I KNOW DISNEY TRYING TO ERASE EMILY FOR HAVING EVER EXISTED THEY PROBABLY MEAN CONSTANCE BUT FUCK THAT)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SO
AS YOU GUYS KNOW I AM HUGE HEARTBOX SHIPPER AND I HAVE A SAD HC THEY REGRETTED TO HAVE DIED WITHOUT EVER HAVING CHILDREN AND MOTHER'S AND FATHER'S DAYS DEPRESS THEM
BOTH UNAWARE THAT SHE DIED 2 WEEKS PREGNANT HENCE WHY SHE HAS BEEN SICK ON HER WEDDING DAY AND IS MORE EXCITABLE AND HUNGRY NOW AS A GHOST AND SO HAS BEEN A PREGNANT GHOST FOR 150+ YEARS, A CRUEL IRONY
AND EVEN IF EVENTUALLY BECAUSE I FELT BAD FOR THEM I DECIDED THEY WILL FIND OUT LIKE SOMEWHERE IN THE FUTURE AND THANKS TO A SPELL FOUND BY MADAME LEOTA BRING THIS TO DUE DATE AND HAVE THEIR CHILD AT LAST A "GHOSTBORN" (VERY RARE, ONLY POSSIBLE THANKS TO THAT SPELL FOR GHOSTS WHO DIED PREGNANT TO ALLOW THE PHANTOM EMBRYO TO DEVELOP AND BE GIVEN BIRTH TO NORMALLY) DAUGHTER NAMED BELLE PACE
WHAT IF IN THE MEANTIME THEY GOT TO EXPEFIENCE PARENTHOOD BEFORE THAT PLOT TWIST BECAUSE THEY HAD ADOPTED BABY BOO, AN ORPHANED BABY/TODDLER GHOST ? THAT HE FINALLY FILLED THE HOLE IN THEIR HEART AND HAVE BEEN PARENTS EVER SINCE ? AND BELLE'S BIRTH IN THE FUTURE WILL ONLY MAKE THEM A BIGGER FAMILY THEY NEVER THOUGHT THEY'D EVER HAVE AND NOW AFTERLIFE IS EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL ?
BABY BOO MAY BE THERE ONLY IN THESE DISNEY XD ADS AND COULD COUNT ONLY AS EXISTING IN THE CONTINUITY OF THESE ADS, I AM SO INCORPORATING HIM IN MY OWN FANON CONTINUITY
IT IS TOO CUTE AND THE IDEA OF THEM HUGGING THEIR NEWLY ADOPTED BABY CRYING TEARS OF JOY AFTER DECADES OF HAVING GIVEN UP FUCKING HURTS ME A GOOD WAY
HE IS THEIR BABY, THEIR SON, THEIR CHILD, THEIR PRIDE AND JOY WHO SCARES MORTALS JUST LIKE THEM AND DADDY TAKES HIM OUT IN THE GRAVEYARD AND MOMMY TAUGHT HIM WELL WITH THE CANDELABRA AND NO MATTER HOW HE IS NOT BIOLOGICAL THEY WON'T EVER REPLACE HIM

Just started thinking about TWST, y'know what that means-
..So. Feel like I'll need to make some kind of Masterlist soon. But as the title says. Thought of things with TWST, ahah- Now of course this would be like your usual brainrot. But people who see my very, VERY rare posts might see a lot of:
✨SKY✨ (or UT, depending if I escape the hole or I get dragged back in cause of fangames and having to still beat Sans on genocide run. Yes I haven't beat that mf yet-)
With that out of the way! What if Yuu was a sky kid?
☆⌒゜☆⌒゜☆⌒゜☆⌒゜☆⌒゜☆⌒゜☆⌒゜☆⌒゜☆⌒゜☆⌒゜
Now I don't think Sky!Yuu would like to be plopped in a coffin. A closed coffin
A CLOSED, DARK COFFIN.
Absolute P A N I C, you COULD take out your candle, but it was too cramped to move. So all you could do was call for help and hope a sky kid could get you out of, whatever the hell this is
"Gotta get a uniform soo- huh?!" That little, mischievous tanuki lookin to find his way to being the greatest mage, hears what can be described as either:
A bell ringing
or a goose.
...
He went with thinking it's a goose.
"OI! How did YOU get in, ha?! Fngahh!" Oh there he goes, burning your coffin- WAIT BURN- Oh! You're a sky kid! Nevermind!
Oh, your savior! You thanked the elders and counted your lucky stars to see fire burning whatever you were stuck in away!
Why's that fire blue tho?
As soon as you fell you wasted no time to scoop up the little. What- what is that? A krill cat?
Oh well! You still scoop him up, hug him, and twirl him around as a thank you!
He didn't like it all that much though-
"EEEEEK! THANK YOU SO MUCH I SWEAR I ALMOST-" You spun Grim around like crazy, to his despair.
"OI! PUT ME DOWN HUMAN!!!"
"Oh, sorry!"
As you put the tanuki-cat down, you took time to notice your attire
WHERE THE F*HONK* IS YOUR CAPE?
oh it's under these weird robe-capes! Nevermind!
Soon the crow b*honk* i mean. Crowley, the headmaster had came in
As usual, chastised you for not taming your familiar.. ("whats that?"-yuu).. and grim trying to defend himself
Soon, after he gives you a good enough explanation on where you were, you have gotten to the ceremony where everyone was
"There's the headmaster."
"I thought he got a stomach ache~!"
You noticed the one who talked was a red head with blue eyes and someone with white hair and white eyes.
Huh, white haired people seem to be rare. Aw man!
Soon, the headmaster told you to go to the mirror, as soon as you did-
"State Thy Name"
"OH MY MEGA BIRD YOU CAN TALK?!" Wow! This world was so cool! A talking mirror!
"...Does anyone understand them?" Someone with blonde hair and purple tips asked 'Woahhh, he looks so pretty!' You thought, you're eyes behind the mask held absolute excitement.
"Ahem! My name is Yuu! At least that's what my friends call me and we all like it!"
"Your soul is fit for...."
"...."
"...."
"I can't see." Ah, that's. that is a problem
"WHAT?!"
"The soul is too bright to discern, but the best dorm to put them in would be scarabia for the time being, though they are not an official dorm member." (you end up staying in ramshackle more after finding it on campus, it looked haunted and could use some light!)
Wow. that's a first.
You were asked to remove your hood, and mask.
Everyone almost mistook you for a stereotypical angel honestly-
"What's that glow around them?" "Are the eyes glowing or is it just a realllyyy bright yellow-?"
One asked what your gender was. You had no idea what it was so you said:
"I'm Yuu- wait, none of you can understand me-" you had to try and propose some kind of friendship candle to someone. You looked to the red head, he seemed pretty scary though...
You still approached him, kneeling (someone: WHY ARE YOU PROPOSING?) and showing a candle, glowing brightly.
The hell were you doing?! "What are you doing! You BOW to royalty, or the dorm head! Not kneel and offer... a candle?"
Riddle, take it d*honk* it-
He did take the candle, reluctantly before it disappeared into sparks.
"Hiya! My name's Yuu, can I call ya Mr... Riddle?" (small hc: there are nametags for the students in the ceremonial robes, but they are removable)
"How am I understanding you now?" He asked, he was at least yuu's height, maybe a bit taller
"No one is able to talk to each other without offering a candle first!"
".. What."
He was now your translator! You told him everything you wanted to tell everyone and he repeated, not without a longgg sigh (riddle: what has my life come to?)
"*ahem* They said: "Hi! My name is Yuu, I am a veteran of Sky, I was recently helping AURORA find more memories with some others till I passed out here""
He continues: ""I don't think I know what a gender is, is that a way of showing your rank or is it a type of person of Sky?" Now, please *turns to Yuu* ask someone else for this, why not someone from Scarabia?"
...He had a point. Well! Now yu have somewhere to stay, so win-win!
(might add more to this idea :DDD)
Anyone is allowed to use this idea even without crediting me! I honestly just write these all for fun

I've been trying to make a Transformers/The Owl House/Warhammer 40k crossover on the official TOH Discord, does that happen to net me an achievement?
Achievement Unlocked:
IP Dispute
Hm, mixing Disney, Hasbro and Games Workshop material? Good thing none of those companies are overprotective of their IP rights or you might be in trouble.

"Time & the Trickster" A Loki/Doctor Who crossover
Tumblr media
Chapter 2: Window to the World
Having Loki in your apartment leaves you both confused and star-struck. But fangirl crushes will have to wait as you take it upon yourself to give Loki a history lesson about your reality and his role in it.
CHAPTER WARNING: none
Previous Chapter · Next Chapter MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You were an early riser, and always had been. Even on mornings after you’d not slept well, you were usually able to greet the day with at least some energy. It was your superpower: you were the only morning person you knew. It was usually good for adding an extra hour or so of recreation to your day.
You needed that superpower more so today than ever. For once, when you woke up and remembered why you were splayed out like a deflating sex doll on the sofa, not a shred of dignity to be found in your position, you felt your head begin to pound.
Coffee…bring me to life…
You glimpsed at the Loki figurine on the kitchen island where you’d stashed it without thinking. Scrunching your nose, you went to the cupboard to start brewing a strong pot of Elixir of Life (French Vanilla light roast).
You weren’t sure what to think. If your new houseguest was truthful, that meant you presently had the God of Mischief in your bed. Hell, it meant that the God of Mischief, as well as Thor, Odin, and Asgard, existed. And what did that mean for everyone else in those movies? How did he even find himself here, and where was his intended path?
And, perhaps the biggest question of all: how was he supposed to get back to where he came from? Should he even be allowed to go? After all, it wasn’t like Loki from The Avengers was a good person. What if you had an intergalactic criminal in there? Lying not about his identity but about his benign existence?
Heh, I guess I had stranger days in college.
You heard shuffling at the front door. After a few moments of keys jangling, Joey came in, looking worse than when he’d left you hours ago.
“More fun at work, asshole?” you said with a sneer.
“Always,” he said, taking a seat on the other side of the island on a barstool. “Actually, I did a lot of cleaning shit out tonight.”
“Good. Serves you right for making me spend my last hundred bucks on Prince Loki in there,” you replied. “That was our grocery money, by the way. Hope you like the Crackers and Oxygen Diet.”
Joey laughed. “I was thinking about it…about him,” he said after a brief pause. “And I was wondering if you thought the same thing I did.”
“What about?”
“About The Doctor.”
The timer on the coffee pot beeped. You swiped two cheap mugs stolen from a hotel room and placed them in front of your brother.
You nodded. “I definitely thought about him.”
“Maybe it’s not such a weird coincidence that he looks like him, Sis,” Joey reasoned as you poured. “I mean, that kook in London sure looks like David Tennant.”
“It’s a publicity stunt, genius,” you said, bringing one of the full mugs to your nose so that you could inhale the gentle, earthy aroma. You were already beginning to feel more awake.
“Disney owns the Loki side of things, but not the Who side,” said Joey. “I doubt the BBC and MCU would do something like this at the same time.”
You smiled and took a slightly longer look at him. Despite his disheveled appearance, Joey really did look like your father to a T. “You and Dad watched all the old Doctor Who stuff. I just watched the Thor movies for the…”
You looked briefly at the toy on the counter.
“...plot.”
Joey took a long sip of coffee, rolling his eyes before setting the cup down to express his thoughts. “Sure you did, Sis. Hey…uh…didn’t you lose your virginity to the audiobook for High Rise?”
“SHUT UP!” you barked defensively, absentmindedly taking a sugar cube from a glass nearby and chucking it at his face. Your aim was wide (and half-assed), and instead of hitting your target, the cube flew across the room and landed at Loki’s bare foot.
You hadn’t noticed him open the door or leave the bedroom. “Oh,” you gasped.
“Hey, Loki! Good morning, soldier!” Joey raised his mug in toast.
Loki looked a little bewildered, but otherwise mentally intact. “Did I miss something?” He bent over and scooped the sugar cube, holding it between two of his fingers, observing it.
You shook your head. “No. Uh, coffee?”
“Um,” was all Loki said before Joey gestured to his own seat, getting up and offering it. Loki felt compelled to take it.
“Hey,” Joey said in an aside to you as Loki helped himself to a coffee mug, “We should tell him.”
“About how he’s a fictional character? I was going to.”
“About The Doctor,” Joey repeated. “I’m just saying, maybe it’s NOT so weird that two time-jumpers landed here after all.”
Shaking your head, you disagreed. “I want to show him the movies first,” you said, looking briefly over your shoulder. “If he is who he says he is, then he doesn’t know the truth. We can’t send him out into the world as a helpless little dingus. Someone could take advantage of him.”
Your brother sighed. “I guess. I’m gonna shower and get some sleep. Maybe when I wake up we can talk about what to do.”
You gritted your teeth and groaned. “He sounds like he wants to get back to where he came from as soon as possible.”
Laughing, Joey headed for the bathroom, barely large enough for him to turn around in. “I don’t think he has much choice.”
“No, that’s not what I’m worried about,” you added. “What if he gets desperate and, like, hurts one of us?”
He shrugged and said quickly as he closed the door, “Well, try not to bleed onto the rug. The landlord’ll add that to our rent.”
You rolled your eyes. Thanks, Joey.
You turned to go back to the kitchen island to help Loki with something to eat, but stopped in your tracks when you saw that he had found the figurine, and was holding it up in front of him as if it were covered in syrup.
“Y/N, what is this?”
Your jaw fell open as your heart began to race. You couldn’t explain the look on Loki’s face; it was as if he was wrestling in his mind between confusion and amusement.
“I…”
Loki was smiling as he held the trinket closer to his eyes, observing the details. “My my…” he mumbled. “Why does Midgard have toys of my likeness in this timeline? Am I a hero?”
His smile peeled further back on his cheeks as he had a realization.
“Do…do you admire me, Miss Y/N?”
Your skin went ice cold when he winked with a chuckle. Your mind was short-circuiting. This was a super fan’s anxiety nightmare come to life, and it was your show. You did the one thing you knew would work to get you out of it: change the subject.
“Loki,” you said solemnly, “There’s something I need to show you.”
Tumblr media
You called in to work (the shop owner was a retired teacher with a sweet disposition, so she understood that you “had family in town”) and brought out Joey’s DVD cases. Between the two of you, you owned the DVDs of the entire Infinity Saga. Joey even burned a few bootleg copies of one of the streaming shows, but alas, it was Wandavision, not Loki’s show. You couldn’t afford any streaming services, and since password sharing/stealing was no longer possible, you only had these discs and basic cable as your entertainment in the evenings.
I wonder what’s in his serial, you thought. Has he lived it yet? Should I warn him about spoilers?
You laid out a spread of snacks, in case Loki got lightheaded or distressed over what he saw.  Luckily, sleep had remedied some of his anxiety, at least to your eye. He appeared fine with the idea of sitting back for most of the day with movies.
“So, what do you know about this place? This world?” you asked as you hit the pause button as the opening logos of Thor began to appear.
Loki was sitting formally, with immaculate posture. “My seidr doesn’t work here. And your version of a Loki variant is possibly fictional and enshrined within these documentaries you are about to show me.”
“What’s a variant?” you asked.
“It doesn’t matter,” Loki said after a moment’s pause. “Show me the films,” he added with a hint of sadness.
Thus began your day watching Loki watch himself in movies. It wasn’t exactly what you’d pictured you would be doing with him if he ever became real, but at least you weren’t bickering or fighting Christopher Eccleston. He seemed entranced, a little disturbed, but also fascinated in earnest. Once in a while, he even made a critic’s comment on the filmmakers’ and actors’ choices. It made you smile when he did, because his shoulders relaxed, he sat back against the sofa cushion. He was becoming comfortable with you.
He remarked that Thor’s film counterpart was a bit off in particular: the real God of Thunder was apparently a bit less bumbling. He was as much a hunter as he was a soldier, which gave him sharper instincts than what was portrayed on screen. Still, the physical resemblance was outright uncanny.
“So, to be clear: in your world, Loki is ONLY a character?” he asked.
Nodding, you hoped he wouldn’t have some kind of existential crisis triggered by your honesty. “Yes. All of these people are the result of actors acting and writers writing.”
“And Midgard is the only Realm that exists?”
“As far as we know, and we’ve mapped the stars pretty well.”
“...and there’s no magic? Or Avengers?”
“Not outside of Comic Con.”
“This fellow playing my role is a bit theatrical.”
You nearly snorted your water. Loki even made you laugh once in a while. “You really think so? Isn’t that the point, though?” you giggled. Loki looked at you warmly.
“Your laugh is nice,” he said. “I am fond of the sound of laughter. You know, I notice these stories neglect my more playful side. I wasn’t always a parasuicidal, power-maddened Prince.”
You raised a teasing eyebrow, and he shrugged. “To be fair, I did say not always.”
He knew more about the plot than you expected. You noticed in some scenes he mouthed the dialogue verbatim, which sent shivers down your back to see. Other times, he seemed as clueless as a first-time viewer as to what was happening, especially when you popped in Ragnarok after a brief lunch break.
“That wasn’t at all how Sakaar happened,” he hissed bitterly. “I never attempted to betray Thor, and would’ve never allowed him to electrocute me without my permission!”
You chose to skip over the next film (ignoring Loki’s odd addendum about ‘permission’) and you got the feeling Loki knew why. “Thank you,” he said, “yes, I know what happens to me on the ship after Ragnarok.”
“How?” you asked. “You’re not as surprised by some of this as I thought.”
“I’m surprised by some of the accuracy, yes,” he admitted, looking at you with a twinge of sorrow in his eyes. “But you aren’t the first one to bring my life’s review before my eyes like this.”
“Who was the first? And how?” you wondered.
“Are there other films of this Loki?” Loki asked. “I can show you what happens next. Surely you know my life didn’t exactly end there.”
“Sort of.”
You got up from the sofa to clear the boxes of old Chinese leftovers as you explained. “You do get away in the next one, the last one. They figure out time travel. Thor finds a universe where you escape from arrest after taking over New York.”
“Yes,” recalled Loki, “but did they show you what happened after that? Where I fell?”
You bit your lip as you crammed everything into the overflowing garbage can as far down as possible. “Not unless you can afford fifteen extra bucks a month,” you admitted. “There is more, but I don’t have access to it.”
“We need to find it,” Loki decided. You were about to agree when he changed his tone: “Oh…perhaps I can regale you with the antics of the TVA myself?”
The way he looked at you, hopeful that you’d agree to hear his version of the next chapter of his life instead of the MCU’s, warmed your heart. You had to fight back your urge to leap across the room and embrace him. Scaring him was the absolute last thing you wanted to do. What you did do was sit next to him again and fold your legs underneath you.
You said simply, “Please.”
And he did. For hours after.
There was something in the way he wove a tale that felt not quite of this planet. His delivery was almost exaggerated as he told you about the TVA, Mobius, Sylvie, and OB, as well as Kang and Ravonna, and how he ended up unconscious and naked in an alley on South Salina street.
His voice was hot and soothing, like a drink of tomato soup against a dry, raw throat. You could have melted into his lap as he described everyone and everything, all of the marvelous lands that didn’t exist for you, the magnificent species and cultures, and the horrendous monsters he’d beaten.
You didn’t particularly care for Sylvie, who sounded like she thrived off of Persecution Complex and attention like a lamprey fed off of a shark’s hind. The way he described both her and Mobius, with equal fondness and perhaps even love, made you sink back in your seat. You were suddenly not as giddy inside.
“You love her,” you said softly and suggestively.
Loki shook his head in denial. “I thought I did until I repeatedly attempted to pull her away from the Citadel.”
“What happened there?”
He explained that he’d realized there, after repeatedly trying to pull her away from her desire to murder Kang and set the timelines into brutal chaos on a scale not even Loki could contain, that sometimes people don't change. It was all Loki could do to accept that perhaps the trite little world in Oklahoma that Sylvie longed for was, perhaps, the one she belonged in after all.
“I don't agree,” you said stubbornly, sticking out your chest in a bit of cartoonish defiance. “She needs to be held accountable for nearly taking down all of reality.”
He sighed. “No, I don’t see how. Her fate is not mine, nor is mine hers. She couldn’t take my place.”
“Your place?” you asked inquisitively. “You mention so many weird things, Loki, and expect me to know them.”
He didn’t answer you. Instead, the wheels in his head were sparked into action, and he looked for a moment as if he were reading something in the air in front of him as his idea materialized.
“Maybe…” he suddenly said. “...the stone!”
“What?” you asked, snapping out of your dreamy trance.
“We have to go back for the stone!” Loki snapped up off of the sofa as if his ass were on springs. It startled you. “Where I landed!”
“Loki! You don’t know your way around here at all! It was dark and rainy last night, so how do you expect to find it?” you slowly got to your feet and put your hands on your hips.
“There was a street sign nearby. S. Salina street! I’ll know what it looks like,” Loki promised, grabbing your hand and dragging you toward the door. “Quickly!”
“Oh my god,” you said, your breath quickening, your anxiety beginning to rush upon you. “Please slow down before I pass out. This is all so much!”
You sat back down again, this time on the barstool closest to you. Laying your head on the island, you let out the smallest, lowest moan of frustration. “This couldn’t have been a normal day…”
You didn’t expect to feel Loki’s large, cool hand on your shoulder. You could feel his skin through your flimsy cami top, and it only took a moment before you began to calm. “I’m sorry,” he said. “I shouldn’t have assumed that people here move with the frequent urgency they do where I come from.”
The tempest waters slowly receded. You turned around, craning your neck to look up at him. You were suddenly conscious of how much of a train wreck you must’ve appeared. You’d never gotten out of the leggings you wore to bed…the leggings with the two gaping holes in the inner thigh seams.
You quickly slammed your thighs together, but if Loki noticed, he was a true Prince about it and didn’t say a word. Instead, he wiped a small piece of hair from your eye. “Have I made you ill?”
“No! Err…”
A moment of frightening silence passed as the pair of you stood and sat where you were, simply observing one another as two creatures from different planes learning all they could about each other.
Meanwhile it wasn’t helping your blood pressure as you were still having difficulty absorbing the fact that you were staring into the literal face of your teenage sexual awakening. Surely he wasn’t looking at you the same way, but his studious eyes with pounding urgency behind them were taking you in regardless. You felt vulnerable…vulnerable and turned on like a seat warmer in January.
Finally, you couldn’t stand it anymore, and you broke the silence. “If you really think you know where on that street it is, I’m calling a cab.”
On your way out the door, you dug into Joey’s jean jacket pocket, just knowing you’d find treasure. Indeed, it only took a moment before you found his tip wallet, and pulled out several tens and twenties before replacing it. Thank god you finished your shift last night, jerk.
You didn’t bother waiting for Loki to ask before saying, “Don’t worry, he owes me way more than that.”
Tumblr media
The rainstorm had receded, but the after effects were worse.
The heat of the waning spring was thick in the air this afternoon, the sun hanging high and dry over the city with not even a wisp of cirrus obscuring it. Humidity radiated off the concrete streets and sidewalks, turning the pavement into a massive stovetop. Luckily, Joey and Loki shared a shoe size (in spite of his diminutive height, he had a larger bone structure that led to large hands and feet). A few buildings over, near one of the corners, a small group of kids had managed to crack open an old fire hydrant and were running under the makeshift water fountain, ignoring the hollers of the angry adults scolding them. It had to be ninety degrees with the heat index, which was hot for this time of year, with summer inbound but still another ten days away.
Sadly, shoe size was the ONLY size Loki and Joey had in common, and the God was forced to wear the smelly castoffs from the police station the night before. You counted the bounty you’d stolen from your brother as you waited for the cab. “I think we have enough to get you something from the Salvation Army while we’re out. It won’t be pretty, but at least it’ll be clean…and not so full of holes and stains!”
“The Army! That’s what I need!” Loki shot back, causing you to roll your eyes.
“Sweet Jesus, Loki, I still have so much to teach you.”
You asked the cabbie to drive low and slow as you drove about the city, down to the south end on the other side of the highway divide. Once there, you were surprised by how quickly it took for Loki to shout “Stop! Stop the car!”
The cabbie did as he was told, and you threw two twenties at him. No need to force him to linger, especially when you had other places to go within walking distance.
Loki pulled you along by the wrist as he maneuvered down the familiar street.
 “There! That’s where I awoke!”
He ducked into an alleyway, lined high along each side with filled trash bags, loaded dumpsters, and wet, crumbling cardboard boxes. Immediately, he turned to the west wall and began looking down at the ground, as if he was just going to find this stone lying on the ground.
“Hey, I got bad news for you, Loki,” you whispered, “if this stone was shiny and bright like the one in the movies…it probably wouldn’t last very long just out in the open in a neighborhood like this.”
He didn’t listen, but as the minutes passed, he realized that you were right. The stone was absolutely and undeniably not in the alley. Someone had made off with it.
“The old man with the…territorial streak,” he mumbled to himself, recalling the first face he’d seen when he arrived in Syracuse.
Before you could ask what he meant, you were cut off by the sound of laughter from across the road.
“Oooh look, Naked Loki’s back! In clothes!” shouted Di, whooping gleefully from the same deck as she’d been last night. “Thank the Lord! Hi, Naked Loki!” she cheered as she waved vigorously in your direction.
“I think he was better off when he wasn’t wearing anything!” giggled her roommate.
“Hello, ladies,” Loki said briefly, waving sheepishly and tipping a non-existent hat to them without moving closer. “May I inquire something of you?”
Di and her roommate laughed again, and Di primped her hair. “Well, I’ll see what I can be inquired of.” She laced her reply with a British accent that would’ve made Dick Van Dyke shake his head in shame. The sass more than made up for it. You nearly lost your mind in sudden laughter.
“The crazy man who shouted at me from this alley last night--”
“--Abe?”
“Yes! Abe! Exactly! Abe!” Loki snapped to full attention, a positive bounce in his step as he finally moved in on his new friends. You followed behind him slowly, stepping back to let a car pass first. “Do you know what Abe does with things he finds? Shiny things? Does he stash them somewhere or sell them?”
“Shiny things, like what?” asked Di.
Loki tried to get her to understand. “Like an emerald, perhaps?”
Di shrugged. “I know he’s got some kind of relationship with Kit at the pawn shop near Gannon’s. I guess he’d go there to sell. Dunno if he does, though.”
“Thank you, my Lady,” said Loki graciously, thinking nothing of taking the woman’s hand in his and laying a brief kiss on it.
“Woo! Come on back anytime, Naked Loki!” she squealed.

Did you really love me? - Connor Rhodes
Requested: yes

Warnings: angst, no happy ending
A/n: if someone said ‘they brought me back to life’ over someone they left me for that’d be it for me

“Did you ever really love me?”
Tumblr media
Breakups suck. Like, really suck. Seriously, who the hell wants to be sat in their room, watching disney movies in the hopes of cheering themselves up with ice cream in one hand and left over pizza in front of them?
It didn’t help that you saw a future with him. Connor Rhodes, found his way into your heart then decided to rip it out with his bare hands. He said he found someone else, someone that brought him back to life. Some great feelings that stirred up. (That was pure sarcasm by the way.)
No, in reality it felt like he’d taken both your heart and your soul and crumbled it to pieces. Years down the drain. That first year of pining over the slightly older surgeon that you worked closely with followed by the next two years.
Sure you should have seen it coming. Less time spent together and half the time you were together, there were fights speckled in. Over stupid shit. Leaving things around, forgetting to do something, missing a date. It was already being written in stone that you two weren’t going to last but you couldn’t take the signs at face value.
You just loved him so much. Every argument you thought maybe it was just a step to things working out. But it wasn’t. Now you’d spent the week in your apartment, using paid time off to wallow in your own pity.
And tomorrow was going to be your first day back at work. Your first day seeing him since everything happened. You had no idea what the hell you were going to do. Natalie and Will sort of had a plan in place, one they could only do so much about.
“We see him coming and we’ll make sure he asks one of us for help, or if you need a consult we’ll take over when he’s there, easy.” Natalie was proud of her plan, her boyfriend just nodding along knowing that was not how any of that was going to work.
You guys were doctors. It wasn’t like they’d always have time to be a personal block between you and the surgeon. Which was proven true the literal first patient you had. Will and Natalie were actually treated the sibling of the boy you had under your care who needed surgery.
And of course the surgeon in question was none other than Dr. Rhodes. Sure you could be professional but that was also when you completely avoided looking in the dark haired man’s direction. Something that was picked up by and brought up by the boy’s mother.
“Do the two of you have an issue with one another? Because I’d like for my doctors to be able to communicate so that I know my baby is getting the best care there is.” Her arms folded tightly across her chest as your mouth gaped.
Were you supposed to lie? Tell her that you and the man next to you were fine? You could handle him. But as much as you believed that, you couldn’t stop the tears pricking at your eyes when you so much as glanced at the back of his head.
Slightly you cleared your throat. “We’re okay, but uh, if it’ll make you feel better, I can have Dr. Halstead, who’s with your other son, take over here.” You spoke with a faint smile, the mother nodding tightly.
It was obvious she didn’t believe you just as much as you didn’t believe yourself and you didn’t want to make this day any worse for her. “Will, uh, could we switch? Mom’s asking for a different doctor.” She bit at her cheek, the look on her face giving away that that wasn’t the entire story but there was no time to question it.
“Yeah sure, we’re just finishing up his labs here.” Natalie gave you a soft smile as the rest of the shift continued, this time without any hiccups. And crossovers were smoother than that one. And once it was over, you were right back where you were that morning.
Crying on your couch.
Except, about halfway through your rewatch of Dirty Dancing, there was a knock on the front door. You weren’t expecting anybody and when you pulled open the front door, you were staring back at the last person you ever expected to grace your entrance way again.
“Connor?”
He gave a tight smile, sucking in a breath, “Can I come in?” You had to fight to hold back the scoff that nearly came out, raising your eyebrows. Who did he think he was just showing up, a week after you two broke up.
Annoyed, you went to shut the door with a roll of the eye, only stopping when the man grabbed the edge of it. “Y/n, please. Look, I just want to talk okay? We work together for god sakes, you have to learn to at least look me in the eye. Especially if we’re taking care of the same patient.”
As much as you wanted to pretend he was wrong, he wasn’t. Begrudgingly, you stepped aside, letting him come in. It was silent for a couple moments, the man taking in the mess that had fallen upon your apartment.
In all honesty, he wasn’t that aware that the breakup had affected you this much. Obviously he knew you were upset, the lack of your appearance at work was enough proof of that. But seeing the messed up couch, the take out containers and half empty tissue box just put things into perspective.
“Alright, are you going to say something or just judge the state of my house? Because I seriously-”
“Just tell me whatever you’ve been dying to tell me, y/n.” He cut you off, turning his attention back to you fully. “I can tell from the look on your face that you want to say something but you’re not letting yourself, and I know how much stuff like that eats at you.”
You nostrils flared as you looked up at him, “You don’t get to say that you know anything about me anymore Connor. You don’t. Not with all the shit that’s happened.” Your words came out harsher than you meant to and for a second you realized that maybe you did have some choice words for him.
“I’m sorry. I just, I want you to be able to get on with things. Move on, not have to worry about me when you’re at work.”
“I’m always going to Connor! I love you.” Your voice cracked along with the dam that was keeping your tears at bay. “With my entire heart, and you left. So I’m sorry if I can’t just get past that in seven days.” You tightly crossed your arms over your chest, sniffling.
If anything was embarrassing it was crying in front of someone that was the source of the tears streaming down your face. And you hated it. You absolutely despised how he was capable of all these emotions spilling from you and that you couldn’t even keep yourself from showing it.
“You know what. I do have something.” You cleared your throat, the anger fading and bringing back the heaviness in your chest. Connor nodded, gesturing for you to continue, his gaze on you entirely. “Did you ever even love me?”
The softness of the question made Connor’s heart drop, his eyes flicking over your face. The lack of response made you scoff, nodding tightly. “Alright. That’s enough of an answer for me. You can go now.”
“Wait no, I did-”
“Go.” You practically yelled, squeezing your eyes shut and pointing at the door to your left. “And don’t try to talk to me again unless it’s work related.” The sound of the door opening and shutting was all you heard before you let yourself crumple onto the couch, crying until you couldn’t cry anymore.

Is it just me, or is there a pretty under-explored niche for a massive D&D fantasy franchise along the lines of Star Wars and Marvel? The sort of missing third genre leg beside science fiction and comics, so to speak.
They've clearly tried this with Tolkien, at least as far as extending the LotR movies to the Hobbit trilogy and the Amazon show which is kinda-sorta in the same lineage. And those things had more than none traction. But the Tolkien estate isn't making it easy with rights licensing, and there's an awkward founder effect they have to contend with- the Jackson LotR trilogy gave the entire franchise a very distinct 'vibe' in the popular imagination, and in practice it seems to be hard to recapture given current production constraints. It seems like it's really hard to make a Tolkien movie or show that 'feels like' the Jackson movies unless you sink a lot in to costuming and practical effects, but the current trends are in the opposite direction, with elaborate greenscreening and digital everything.
But in any case, Middle-Earth really isn't the brand you want for a mass-media culture juggernaut, is it? It's literary when it needs to be pulpy, mournful when it needs to be exciting, pensive when it needs to be strident. The world is vast, but delicate, and written by a single author exploring a narrow, coherent set of themes and styles.
Surely D&D- which is to say, the Forgotten Realms, realistically- is better for this all-around. It has a truly massive baked-in fanbase that's clearly (through 'actual play' podcasts etc.) already chomping at the bit for high production value experiences, a vast backlog of source material to draw on owned by corporate entities rather than a single brittle family estate, a wide variety of scenarios allowing for multiple sub-genres and directoral styles all under the same umbrella. It's just as popular but less sacred, meaning the audience will be more tolerant of failures. It has merchandising options for days, already has beautiful examples of video game and multimedia tie-ins, and has established and successful writing patterns for epic-scale crossover movies, long-running multi-season campaigns, one-shots, and everything in between.
There's one weakness, which is that compared to Star Wars and Marvel, individual characters are less central in the existing property. D&D has some, such as Drizzt, that rose to prominence in the novel spin-offs, so of course this isn't totally wrecked. However, the brand was originally built fundamentally as a game system and as a set of places, with the heroes to be assembled by the consumers themselves; it must be said that iconic characters are somewhat sparse, and awkwardly spread across multiple settings and continuities. But I think if you got the thing really roaring, this might give it longevity that Star Wars and Marvel ultimately lack- Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man, Mark Hammil is Luke, and notwithstanding AI representations, once those actors are gone, the franchises themselves flounder awkwardly. But if audiences come to identify their enthusiasm for D&D franchise movies with the world and brand itself, then the turnover in the cast is much less damaging to that brand, because the whole thing is already built from the ground up without overly relying on a specific group of 8-10 actors as a lynchpin of the whole operation. Even the leveling mechanic allows for franchise tentpole actors to grow in prominence as they emerge as audience favorites, then conveniently transition in to CG apotheosis or some other suitable end as the actors age out and new favorites are found.
I mean, far be it from me to give advice to the goliaths of culture, but I'm genuinely puzzled about why Disney hasn't bought D&D yet, or why Hasbro hasn't made some kind of big push to do this outside the single (pretty good!) movie. I think I'd even kind of enjoy it.

Odette and Anya/Anastasia have always been two of my favourite none Disney Princesses, next to Kayley from Quest for Camelot, and it with being Pride month of 2023 I thought it would be fun to do a collage on them. To show my support for the LGBTQ+ community and to do a crossover collage that isn't of Disney or DreamWorks characters for a change.

20 questions for writers
Thank you for the tag @thebiwifeonao3!
How many works do you have on AO3? 88
What's your total AO3 word count? 1,090,772
What fandoms do you write for? Mostly Frozen (Kristanna, especially), sometimes crossing over with other Disney movies. I've also written 7 fics for Wednesday (TV), and one or two for Good Witch (TV), The Americans, Beetlejuice, and What We Do in the Shadows. Oh, and a fic about the song, "Brandy."
What are your top five fics by kudos?
Woe is Your Master (Wednesday/Tyler, E)
Cat Scratch Fever (Wednesday/Tyler, T)
Woe is Me (Wednesday/Tyler, E)
Sweet Poison (Wednesday/Tyler, T)
Black Lace on Red (Wednesday/Tyler, E)
5. Do you respond to comments? Yes, I try to! But to be honest, if I get a super long comment or something that needs a long response, I usually put it off because I want to answer with as much effort as the commenter put into it. So sorry to the people whose comments I haven't responded to. Please know that I read them and loved them and will respond as soon as I collect myself from the puddle on the floor.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I've yet to write anything with an unhappy ending. But the closest I got was The Ice King (Hans/Elsa, E). I can't say because it's a spoiler. Let's just say that everyone got what they wanted, but it didn't work out quite the way it was supposed to.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Everything else? I guess if I have to pick one it's She Holds a Candle (Kristoff/Anna and Stephanie (transfemme Sven)/Ryder). I ended up giving Stephanie and Ryder their own chapter because I loved them so much and just wasn't ready to let them go. So Kristoff and Anna ended up together and then Stephanie and Ryder got married at the end. (Y'all know I love Ryder so much that I named my cat after him.)
8. Do you get hate on fics? I have. Mostly on ffn, so I stopped posting there. And I've gotten a little on AO3, too. Mostly it's been from people who don't know what archive warnings and tags are for, or who have contempt for the characters, ships, fandoms, etc. and haven't even read it.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes! Mostly m/f, usually femdom, and sometimes with mild BDSM (mostly bondage)
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? I did more when I started out, but I don't do it so much anymore. I guess the craziest was Hans/Elsa in an animated Addams Family fusion AU (The Magenta Cravat, T). At one point I was going to write a WednesdayxFrozen AU where Anna was Wednesday's roommate instead of Enid and Elsa was a teacher at Nevermore. There's also the Frozen/Midsommar AU (Elsa/Pelle) which will never happen either. C'est la vie.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? I don't think so.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes, a couple of my Wednesday fics were translated into Russian!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic? Yes, but it never saw the light of day. It was with a few other Frozen and Beauty and the Beast writers in the Frozen Hearts Will Melt Discord server (DM me if you want an invite).
14. What's your all-time favourite ship? Kristoff/Anna from Frozen.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? All of them? Seriously, though. I've determined that none of my WIPs on AO3 are going to be finished except for Head Over Feet. I'd love to finish The Refugees, All Tied Up, Sophisticated Grace, and Pour Some Sugar on Me, but I don't know if I have it in me. I dunno. Maybe someday.
16. What are your writing strengths? I've been told character dynamics and descriptions of body movements.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Repetitive sentence structure, head hopping. And I have no idea where commas are supposed to go. Every time I think I'm right, my grammar check tells me I'm wrong.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for fic? I generally prefer to write dialogue in English and indicate that it's in another language. I don't want to make the reader do extra work just to find out what happens next. I also want the reader to be in the character's shoes the entire time without even realizing it, and having to read in a language they're not as familiar with can take them out of it. But, at the end of the day, it's a technique and a choice the writer has to make about what's best for the characters and their story.
I wish I knew another language well enough that I could write a whole fic in that language, but alas. I hold writers who write in foreign languages in the highest esteem.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Frozen (Kristoff/Anna)
20. Favourite fic you've written? Pretty Please (Kristoff/Anna, E). I wrote this for @99goosebumps for the 2023 BDSM Exchange. It was so much fun to write, and all the stars aligned with it. Aside from writing some new kinks I loved, I'm really happy with the quality of the fic and I really loved Kristoff and Anna's dynamic in this one. I don't think I've ever gotten it quite as right as I did in that fic. It's definitely not for everyone, but I hope the people who have read it found something they liked there.
Tagging @thefamilybruno @glassslippers-n-cowboyboots @bad-at-names-and-faces @thecassadilla @99goosebumps @paigebstorey @butchbetty! And anyone else who wants to participate.

I'm speaking relatively because the bar for the level of discussion is incredibly low, but 2024 is going to be a fascinating year for the MCU/superhero film discourse.
the MCU is taking a massive step back in only releasing one film, Deadpool 3, which so far has no real connection to the rest of the universe as a recently acquired Fox property, and seems to be focused more on crossovers with other pre-Disney characters (Wolverine, Elektra) - tying up lose ends, not making new ones.
meanwhile the DCEU is dead and the DCU is yet to be property born, leading to a sort of interregnum where for the first year in what seems like forever (2009?) we're not seeing one of the big established heroes in the cinema... then next year they'll be back, and we'll probably have another decade of multiple films a year before the next breather.
given that window of opportunity, Sony are coming out all guns blazing with three films to stake a claim for the power vacuum (Madam Webb, Kraven the Hunter, Venom 3), with their own latest attempt at a rival universe faltering after the initial promise of the first Venom film.
none of these are particularly anticipated, which, combined with the absence of actual popular titles, could potentially lead to the highest levels of 'superhero fatigue' mentions ever recorded, and claims that the genre is dead until 2025 arrives with half a dozen films to try to kick-start it all over again.

I've been tagged by @pazithigallifreya ! There's no one I can think of offhand to tag so just do it if you want to
1 How many works do you have on AO3? Aaahhh, well, the official number appears to be 5. I have some scattered orphans out there somewhere.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 262,523. Officially. If you were to track down everything I've orphaned it might go up a bit.
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Tumblr media
Good sir, I only have written five fanfictions, so I'll just stick to the top one
Schrodinger's Hobbit
Ah yes, the one that was posted on a regular schedule and has characters people care about in the tags, giving readers a ghost of a chance to discover it and give it a 'well it's about gollum but I'm desperate for pippin' click
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
In theory, yes. In practice, if I don't reply to a comment as soon as I see it, I sometimes forget to go back and reply because I've tricked myself into thinking I already have. Because I usually reply right away, you see.
Fortunately I do eventually see the comment as unreplied to in my inbox and circle back to it.
However, sometimes if there's no question posed and a simple 'thank you' doesn't seem to apply I honestly can't think of an answer and will just appreciate the person in silence.
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Uh, well, there's... oh, there's this one that's orphaned somewhere on AO3! it ends with Gollum learning how to eat people
I think I also wrote something once where it ended on a guy going 'oh no I am going to go insane just like my mother' but I don't know if it still exists anywhere.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
Maybe Schrodinger's Hobbit? It ends with Aragorn saying 'Gollum isn't going to jail and we're just going to keep him' which is a happy ending from one point of view (Gollum's)
I usually just stop writing stories at the point where they stop being interesting.
7. Do you write crossovers?
The answer is no except for the time I did a crossover webcomic between two games no one cares about.
The first really ambitious fanfiction project I did was some kind of three way crossover with tons of canon/oc shipping and it was so bad.
Also there's a thing on my account that's technically a crossover but it's between Disney properties, which are already just one big lump.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
There's a TVTropes page out there with people railing about how bad my ambitious fanfiction project with tons of canon/oc shipping was. I am not going to find it for you.
In terms of comments, no, except for the one time I wrote a shipfic in a particularly eccentric fandom. People got bad about that. Oddly enough the people who liked the ship were the ones that got mad. Failed step one.
I've never gotten hate on AO3. (Not yet! 👀) Only the wild west of fanfiction.net and TVtropes.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do not.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so. I don't monitor for that, though.
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I've had some people get permission from me to do translations, but they never told me if they posted anything.
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Ahhhh I used to years and years ago. I think one co-written thing is still floating about somewhere on ff.net.
I wouldn't be opposed to trying it again one day if I met someone with a compatible writing style and the circumstances were right, but it's not something I'm seeking out.
13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
I guess I'm not really that into shipping. Sometimes a ship will catch my interest enough to produce content but there are none I currently find interesting enough to claim as a favorite.
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
If I haven't finished it by now, I don't want to ;)
15. What are your writing strengths?
I don't feel well-equipped to judge my own work, so I will go off of what other people have said about me, which is always a great method for determining your self-concept.
A bunch of different people have said independently of each other that I'm good at characterization and dialog, so it's probably at least partially true.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
Oh I don't know how to write a plot.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
There are so many different ways that could be done that this question feels too general to answer.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Lilo & Stitch. Almost 20 years ago now! The Internet has changed a LOT since then.
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?
I'd like to try writing original fiction- wait, come back! Come back!
20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
Oh, now, that's hardly fair. You expect me to READ these things?

Yet Another Kingdom Hearts Revisit, Part VIII
I mentioned in my KH II revisit that KH I is the only Disney property since Beauty and the Beast was released in 1991 (the live action remake very much included) to tell a good story with Belle and the Beast. The latter character acting as a parallel to Sora for the beginning of Hollow Bastion is a great touch too. And if Belle's dialogue boxes don't really "sound" too much like her, I do like that she stands apart from the rest of the princesses in the library, doing research. None these details are labored over, but they're smart and appreciated choices in direction and plotting.
And, speaking of plot - every time I come back to this game, I have a renewed and deepened love for how the story is handled in this section of the game. The subversion of the "chosen one" and "hero's journey" archetypes is so beautifully done, clear and impactful without straying into obnoxious meta-commentary on storytelling, and Sora and Riku (as they were in this game) are the perfect characters to go through that subversion. I daresay I don't know of a better example of a pair of rivals coming to a head and defying the expectations everyone had for them (well - everyone but Kairi). And the fact that, as a consequence of that subversion, Donald and Goofy end up (briefly and indirectly) allied with Maleficent is one of the many gutsy story choices I cannot believe Disney allowed to go through for this game.
The twist with Ansem is the only clean villain twist in the series - that is, it's the only one that works without at least one asterisk. And the Princesses of Heart (again, as they were in this game) as a plot device is a great way to take a Disney concept, darken it a little, and make it a organic and integral piece of the crossover. And that all this takes place on Hollow Bastion is appropriate, because of all the original elements created for the series, that world (yet again, as presented in KH I) is the most successful at uniting Disney sensibilities with Square/Final Fantasy sensibilities, aesthetically and narratively. It's the ideal penultimate stage for a game like this.
But with all that praise out of the way - the way the series has developed since KH I has made me ambivalent about quite a bit surrounding Hollow Bastion. And that is not fair. No one involved in making KH I could have known how the series would pan out, or that Kingdom Hearts would ever be a series. If an element works in the initial entry of a series but ended up being developed in a negative way, that shouldn't take away from its effective use earlier on. But it's impossible not to at least dwell on consequences and alternate possibilities with KH at this point.
To start with the weapon at the heart of the series - Most of the dialogue and lore dropped in KH I treats the Keyblade as a singular entity, a mysterious and powerful object that has bestowed itself on chosen bearers, good and evil, throughout history. The Keyblade of Heart and Mickey's Keyblade popping up in the third act does not easily square with that set-up, even with a last-minute note about the "two keys" in The End of the World. I can accept the Keyblade of Heart as a unique creation of the princesses' hearts by Ansem while possessing an intended wielder of the Keyblade, and Mickey's having one is an admittedly satisfying eucatastrophe. I can't say I have any thoughts on how certain plot points could have been resolved without those two blades either. But with how out of control Keyblades have become since, part of me wishes that they could have found a way to make the story work with there being just the one and only Keyblade wielded by Sora.
Part of me also wishes that Maleficent never came back after her defeat here. As much as I love the idea of her story in KH II and the concept of her "origins" in BbS, the execution in both games is uneven (the latter more than the former), and nothing since has been remotely satisfying. On the other hand, I'd be loathe to see anyone else representing the pinnacle of Disney villaindom, so for that reason alone, I'm less torn on Maleficent than I am the Keyblade issue.
Where I'm most torn so far as villains go is with Ansem. Playing this game again, I found the slow reveal of his true nature so successful, and so satisfying, that I had to reconsider my thoughts about KH II. As much as I enjoy just how improbably effective the twist about "Ansem" being Xehanort is, it is a dilution of what was an immensely pleasing arc. I'm now wondering about a KH II with no DiZ and no villain twist - just Xemnas as the Nobody of Ansem, a man who corrupted himself and his apprentices.
And now it's time to revisit a point I raised in Part I: the Princesses of Heart. It's always bothered me that Alice is one of them, and I admit that's entirely because of my persnickety ways. For one thing, if Wendy isn't pure enough to be a Princess of Heart, then Alice - of a similar age and disposition - shouldn't be either. But Alice is also not royalty of any kind, not in her books, not in her film, and not in Disney's many marketing ventures. You can say that "Princess of Heart" is really just a pithy way of saying "seven maidens whose hearts happen to be devoid of darkness and therefore have vague yet potent powers," but when five of the six taken from Disney are royals by birth or marriage, Alice sticks out like a sore thumb.
To be sure, it's not as if the KH team had a lot of options to choose from at the time. The only realistic options for a sixth princess who really was a princess in 2002 would have been Ariel and Pocahontas. It might have been fun to bring the latter into KH, but it's hard to imagine her ending up captured by the Heartless, and harder still to imagine Disney wanting to remind people of a film they'd already begun to sour on as a company. As for Ariel, I'm more than content to have her as a party member who can fend for herself. I also don't think you can be counted pure of heart if you cut deals with sea witches, however innocent your motives.
Really, Alice being in the line-up wouldn't be more than a minor itch in my anal-retentive mind...if it weren't for the fact that, by her not being a real princess, the door was opened for Kairi not to be a real princess.
And again, that wouldn't be more than a nitpick if it was just a matter of rank; it's not as if Kairi needs to be a princess to be a good character. But the way the game handles her, I don't think anyone could be chastised for thinking that Kairi was Hollow Bastion royalty. Her heart inside Sora's stirs at the castle slide in Deep Jungle. She has memories of living in a castle, of being told bedtime stories by her grandmother in the library of the castle of Hollow Bastion. Ansem calls her "princess" multiple times. I know that in the extra Ansem Report added in Final Mix, he just refers to her as "a girl," but if that was always the intention - if Kairi was always meant to be an ordinary girl who happened to be a Princess of Heart - then they really shouldn't have put so much effort into suggesting otherwise.
And now consider that it took until Melody of Memory for any meaningful expansion on Kairi's past in Hollow Bastion, and how perfunctory it was compared to the piles of lore and backstory spent on Xehanort, the Organizers, the Nameless Star, Ven, and his stupid focus-pulling cat. I think that, had Kairi been established as the princess of Hollow Bastion and a pivotal figure to a pivotal world, that would have given her real estate within the lore that would have made it harder to ignore her for so long in the narrative. Then again, given how quickly the series' priorities seemed to shift even within CoM and KH II, maybe it wouldn't have mattered.
Kairi is also tied into my one major gripe with Hollow Bastion in KHI, which is one of my only major gripes with the story as a whole. Remember how Sora tells Kairi to stay in Traverse Town, telling her that she'd be in his way? And remember how, when he gets back to Hollow Bastion, the six Princesses of Heart tell him that they're barely keeping the darkness at bay and that it's costing all their vaguely-defined power not to give in?
Gee, if only there were a seventh Princess of Heart who could lend her light to theirs. And if only we knew who she was and where she was. And if only we had a spaceship we could use to bring her to Hollow Bastion. And if only, should Sora be foolish enough to leave her behind, all his friends from Traverse Town followed him to Hollow Bastion and could have brought her along with them.
If only...if only...if only...

How do you feel about the Ducktales reboot as a whole? And were there any other issues you had in the three seasons?
I loved season 1, really disliked season 2 while I liked the first episodes and I didn't bother with season 3 because the clips I saw and plot points I heard annoyed me. Donald was nerfed to oblivion to be a literal joke while he was comical sure but also badass in the comics, I HATE the final plot twist and still think it is so forced, how I LOATHE this depiction of Dewey, how I hate how nobody ancient feels ancient because they all speak "yeah like whateher dupper cool" (even if I loved season 1 the mummies and Selene made me roll my eyes so HARD) and GF quirky humor and Wellon speak too much, how again it id not a DT show itself but a huge nostalgia fanservive with pointless useless crossovers everybody ate up (IT'S DUCKTALES NOT DISNEY MORNING CARTOONS FEST I DON'T GIVE A SHIT EVEN IF I LOVE GOOFY AND BALOO I DON'T WANT TO SEE THEM THERE COME THE FUCK ON), none of the kids felt like kids the most jarring example being Gosalyn who felt like a realistic orphaned 9 years old kid in the old show trying to deal with grief and loneliness while trying to stay positive and play and keep acting like a child with other children but here was edgy and somber because "omg so relatable and realistic way to deal with grief Oscar worthy show I feel smart watching it" while investigating herself about her grandpa's death and knowing nearly everything like a professional NPC who gives you the clues and is like "follow me" the whole time to everyone nearly Mary-Sue-like and being like "yeah whatever *looks up to the moon as wind flows in her hair and jacket and a tear runs down her cheek*, again Scrooge being super undertoned not to be morally grey to confront nobody about liking someone morally grey especially with how caricatural most other antagonists are which proves the show's inability at nuances, and even though I did like the episode how fucking BALLESS it was to have Scrooge's parents still alive GEEZ HOW ANTICLIMACTIC *ALSO THE MORE I THOUGHT ABOUT IT THE MORE IT MEANS THEY SWAPPED SHOW DON'T TELL FOR SHOW AND TELL SINCE SCROOGE NEEDS TO BE TOLD THE LESSON HIS FATHER NEVER EXPLAINED IN THE COMICS GOOD GOD*

"Time & the Trickster" a Loki/Doctor Who crossover

Chapter 13: The Ones Left Behind
Sylvie chases you into the bowels of the TARDIS, leaving Loki at her mercy on one side, while you and The Doctor are stranded on the far end. It's a race back to the time vortex to determine who gets control of the TARDIS in the final hours of reality!

“How does she know where to go?” you asked as you followed The Doctor further into the depths of the time machine. The lights flickered as the TARDIS itself continued to react to Sylvie’s defiance, as well as the time stones’ interference. Because of this, you and The Doctor weren’t running as you continued your descent.
“She’s been here with me for a few days, she’s had time to explore,” he replied.
“Ah,” you nodded. “Yet you said you never fully warmed up to her. Why?”
“Oh, well when you’re as old as I am, you learn to pick up on things. Holes in stories, feelings that don't line up with actions and the like, y’know?”
“I guess so.”
The time lord went on. “If someone like Sylvie thinks it’s Loki’s ultimate destiny to make a sacrificial move, then why did she storm in here like a Judoon looking for a fugitive? There’s too much brute urgency in the way she acted. You’d think someone’s literal other half sent to retrieve them for imminent imprisonment would be a bit more reluctant and solemn at the task.”
“She is NOT his other half,” you insisted with a brief sigh.
The Doctor stopped in his gtracks, giving you the first serious once-over he’d lent you since arriving. “Oh, I see,” he said with quiet sympathy. “How long did it take you?”
“Take me? To what?” you asked defiantly.
“To fall in love with Loki, of course!” he said casually. “It’s plain as the eyestalk on a Dalek’s face.”
You shrugged. “Not long at all.”
The Doctor thought back for a moment. “It’s the worst thing a traveler can do, isn’t it?”
“What?”
“Fall for someone. Anyone.”
The two of you went onward toward the vortex chamber.
“You’re talking about Rose,” you decided.
The Doctor wilted. “Yeah.”
He was suddenly way too quiet. “She chose to go to the throne--err, I mean--risk falling into the Void. She only got lucky at the last moment, which is why she’s still alive.”
“Loki won’t be so lucky unless we get Sylvie to go to his place.”
The Doctor asked if you’d planned for any way of doing that. You brought up your plan to fake her out with Loki’s dramatized death. “It’s a bit Disney, but it’s frankly better than anything I got,” he mused. “But, are you ready to let go of him if it fails?”
You nodded without words.
“It’s a burden that all travelers endure,” The Doctor went on. “Sometimes it feels like a pair of binary stars circling, basking in the glow of one another but never fully combining, because there’s always some force of nature keeping you from fully coming together.”
“I was a fan of his character,” you explained. “I’d dreamed of him for ten years. When he literally came to life before me, I didn’t know what to think. But…he’s even better than the character. I didn’t want to know that. It would’ve made things so much easier if I hadn’t--”
“--now, now,” The Doctor pouted his lips, “regret doesn’t solve anything.”
“Regardless,” you sniffed back, trying to stifle any crying before it started. Getting emotional was the LAST thing you needed in the moment. “I know I have to give him back. There are others who need him. I’m just afraid of the heartbreak, and how lonely it’s going to make me.”
“Are you alone in the world? Aside from Loki,” he asked.
“No,” you said quickly. “My brother…who seems to be having trouble finding a parking space,” you added, “we live together. Our parents died a while back. Neither of us socialize much out of work…aside from with the beat cops at the precinct, I suppose.”
“I see,” he replied. “Family’s good.”
“He’s younger, and sometimes he’s difficult to pin down, but sometimes I think I’m the dependent one,” you moped. “He’s the only one who knows how to quell my panic attacks, and if it weren’t for him, I’d absolutely be alone in the world.”
“How often do you have them? The anxiety attacks?”
You rolled your eyes. “More than my share as of late.”
“Of course! Though after the way you tried to take Sylvie all on your own, I was already under the impression that you could take of yourself.”
You smirked. “That wasn’t strength, it was anger.”
“Oh no, you were brilliant back there, truly!” The Doctor insisted. “Have you forgotten she’s Asgardian like Loki? You don’t seem to fully understand that you challenged a god face-to-face just now.”
That perspective hadn’t occurred to you. Your chin went up in pride. “I guess I did, huh?”
The TARDIS shook, but you were able to grab on to your escort’s shoulder to steady yourself. “Sounds like we should move faster,” he mumbled. “Blimey, I thought Loki was going to be the difficult one.”
“Well, in a way--”
“--yeah, don’t try explaining that Variant stuff to me. I regenerate my face and body, and even I think that version of the universe has too many rules and holes.”
You nearly snorted in laughter. “One of you is more than enough, is it?”
He laughed in turn. “Oh absolutely! Just ask every foe from here to Raxacoricofallapatorius.”
“I’d rather not.”
The Doctor led you down a flight of metal stairs and through an archway to the next level of the time machine. “You know, if we didn’t come from separate realities, I’d invite you to go see some places with me.”
“Really?” you asked airly. “I’d love that. It’s such a shame I’m trapped on the most worthless branch of the least interesting, magic-free cardboard box of a timeline there is.”
The Doctor clicked his tongue. “I suppose I pity you a little there.”
Gee thanks, Doctor, you thought. That sure helps.
“Loki has shown me so much since being in my life. Now that he has to leave it one way or the other...I don’t know where to begin processing a life after seeing magic, seeing that he exists beyond a film screen, and hereafter never seeing it or him again. It’s like he’s about to climb back into the TV and turn it off.”
“Echos fade,” The Doctor promised. “Healing will come. You just have to be willing to give it a try once it’s time.”
You sensed the sorry in his words. You knew he’d managed to move on from his Rose. “What’s it like? Losing the one you love like that?” you dared to ask, regretting it as soon as the words left your lips.
The Doctor put his hands in his pockets, looking down at his shoes for a moment in thoughtful silence.  He looked sullen, quietly sad, his face forlorn. “Would you like the kind answer or the real one?”
“You know what I want to hear.”
He sighed. “You’ll blame yourself for a long time. You bargain with every invisible force to take their place. Even if you know they are alive and thriving, wherever they are, the room always feels a little larger to you after they go.”
“I wish I couldn’t feel at all,” you said woefully.  “Feelings suck.”
“Well, don’t talk like that, you’ll start to sound like a Cyberman,” The Doctor joked lightly, breaking a bit of the drama in the corridor.
You giggled until he interrupted you with, “But…the night sky will suddenly hold a lot more meaning for you. You’ll begin to appreciate the smallest things that remind you of them, and smile when their face enters your thoughts. The smells that bring you back to the times you shared will become addicting and delicious.”
You took one more turn around a sharp-angled corner, and were met with a pair of large, heavy double doors. You heard voices speaking in muffles within.
“But the one thing that tops them all, Y/N, the one thing you need to remember if things come to the worst possible scenario: what they did is not your fault. They made their choices because of their love for us. It wouldn’t do to cry in their wake for long. It’s our duty, as the ones they leave behind, to live.”
It made you think, and the sigh you let out felt as if it weighed fifteen pounds. What more could you and Loki ask for? The possibility that you could run off together that was infinitesimal at best? Perhaps it was asking for too much. Ultimately, no matter what came of the grand finale of this adventure, you would carry the love he’d given you and the lessons he’d taught you for as long as you went on.
“Well, no time like the present,” The Doctor said, indicating that this was your destination. “We’ll need to act quickly. Get the stone into her hand and by whatever means necessary, get her to drop it over the time vortex without anyone falling in.”
“How will I know what that is?”
He gave you a look as if to say you’ve got to be kidding me.
“Oh right,” you mumbled awkwardly. “Wibbly wobbly.”
He nodded with an encouraging smile. “Wibbly wobbly. But I must warn you not to look directly into it. Looking into the time vortex can do unspeakable things to you.”
You and The Doctor each laid a palm on a door, ready to fight the moment you got inside if needed.  “Just remember, Y/N, if you want even a slight chance for Loki to escape his sacrifice, Sylvie needs to stay alive.”
“Right,” you said quickly, even as you longed to curl your fingers around her skinny throat. “For him. For all of us.”
Tumblr media
Sylvie may have been quicker, but Loki’s legs were longer. Thus, keeping up with her was a simple task, even if she was weaving methodically through tiny passageways, leaping down entire stairwells, and cutting through the oddest array of rooms, some of which seemed wholly unnecessary for a time machine (why was there a swimming pool and art gallery down here?).
She knew where to go to head you off, to guard the time vortex from any stones getting within and shipping her off to a place that would only welcome her with an escort to an eternity of existing for others. All her hard work and suffering would be for naught!
Loki wasn’t speaking to her, even as she found the time vortex chamber in minutes. The TARDIS was still shaking intermittently, each time a bit more violent. She was breaking, and soon she would probably fall apart entirely. That would doom everyone to the collapse of reality, and it could not happen.
Sylvie opened the double doors, stepping cautiously inside. Loki slipped through before she slammed them shut.
“If you move more than one step toward that…” she pointed to the center of the room, where a large, closed basin stood, bright white light leaking out from under the stone lid. “…or if I see you take that stone out…” She held her dagger to Loki’s throat, causing him to still his breath as much as possible.
Loki gritted his teeth against the burning sensation against his thigh where he’d quickly stashed the stone before giving chase. He put up his arms and shook his head quietly. “You’ll run me through, I imagine.”
Her eyes never left his face. She wasn’t sure whether to relish his hesitation, or to be on higher guard. Meanwhile, Loki was beginning to observe the room for himself from his position against the doors.
In addition to the large basin, the room held a cool, dark blue hue, nearly completely made of stone and entirely too ostentatious for its singular purpose, it seemed.
“Don’t let anyone in here,” she commanded.
“You expect me to listen now?” asked Loki.
“You expect me not to use this?” Sylvie replied, the very tip of the blade cutting the skin of Loki’s neck.
Loki swallowed. “If you kill me, what then? Who becomes the one to heal time in my place but you?” He stood up a little straighter as the realization hit her. She took two steps back and brought the blade down to her side without putting it away.
“So…now what?” she asked.
Loki brushed some hair away from his face, coated in sweat. “We go back to the TVA.”
“I said NO!” Sylvie shouted, stomping her foot and turning her back on him. The floor shook with such force that Loki nearly tumbled to the ground.
“Well, then neither of us do it, and everyone and everything dies.” He shrugged once the room was still underfoot. “Including us.”
“Is that worse than sitting at the edge of time being a slave?” she scoffed, beginning to walk a slow lap around the vortex basin. “After all I’ve been through!”
There it was. The words Loki needed to hear to finally put everything about Sylvie together in his mind. After all I’ve been through. No matter what he said, she was lost. It would never be about anyone else no matter what he said.
Still, he had to try. “You’d consider it slavery?”
“What else is it, eternally serving others?”
“I have spent weeks traveling as mortals do across land and sea,” he said. “The first hour after my arrival I was knocked out cold by a drunkard. I have been in TWO prison cells AND a shipwreck, and I paid an inordinately large sum for a tower of fish food. I may not have spent my life running and hiding in apocalypses, but I did spend it among lying fathers, purple conquerors, and with so little to hold on to that for so long I didn’t see a reason to do so.”
He slowly walked deeper into the room, taking in the vastness of it. “Then she happened.”
“That hot-headed human?” Sylvie mocked. “First Mobius, now her?”
Loki smirked in a way that would make Tony Stark proud. “I’m starting to think Midgardians just make better lovers.”
Sylvie rolled her eyes in her trademark scowl. “In the end, they don’t matter. The only one in our lives who never betrays us is ourselves!”
Loki shrugged. “I beg to differ. I happen to think I’ve been the biggest detriment to my own existence for eons. The only reason I’m not dead this minute is because of others.”
Something peculiar changed in Sylvie’s energy, almost like it had reached its zenith and was beginning to fall. “And I understand it’s awful when you feel there’s no one in the world to rely on but yourself, but no one is EVER alone unless they ask to be!”
She was quiet, refusing to look back at him. “I suppose…”
“…you surely must trust me a little.”
“What makes you say that?”
“You have your back to me right now.”
She shot around to find Loki only about five feet away, holding a handkerchief by the gathered corners, a smoking green morsel inside. She widened her stance and brandished her dagger again.
“You can do this, Sylvie. Maybe this is your purpose,” he suggested softly. “It’s how you can prove to the TVA and every one of your transgressors that you—”
“—how simple do you think I am? We’ve spent so much time together! No, it’s not my place. They don’t deserve my protection!”
Loki felt his eyes go hot as he held back a tear for her. Sylvie, you fear the cosmos too much, as I once did.
Perhaps if she had a Thor (Thora?) to play with as a child, or was allowed to live on her version of Asgard without the TVA’s interventions, she would’ve learned how to open the gates to her heart. She wouldn’t be such a hardened warrior with no faith in the world.
I need to get this to the basin over there, he thought, when he senses a presence from behind the double doors. He knew you and The Doctor had arrived.
Sylvie jumped when you and The Doctor bursted in, Sylvie’s cracked stone in your hand.
“It’s time, Sylvie,” you said, standing up straight and brandishing the rock between your fingers. “This is all down to you. We can do this without anyone getting hurt, or I can drag you to the TVA by your ankles. Now, what’s it going to be?”

Life Update: I got some life-altering news this weekend. My dad is dying of a fast-acting gastrointestinal cancer, and I'm quite close with him. I have yet to see how this is going to affect my presence here for the next few months, but rest assured whether or not I go away or annoy everyone here to death with my need to distract myself, this fic is finished and the remaining chapters are queued.
