Pairing: Neteyam x (fem) Human character
Warnings: teasing, begging, many orgasms, fingering, rough, p in v, squirting, creampie

Tumblr media
You really set yourself up. Dragging him off behind a tree, jerking him off until he was whining, struggling to stay quiet.
You knew it would catch up to you. Had no idea when though, unfortunately.
It happens a few nights later, in the privacy of your home in the labs. As soon as he steppes through that door, he had corned you, stripped you down without a care and sat on that old sofa with you strewn over his big thighs.
"Ne- neteyam! Erg, fuckfuck," you growl out, panting under the enslaught of his rough fingers.
Two long digits fuck into your clenching pussy with a vengeance.
Once he learned how pliable your cunt was, how it would spring back to the delightfully tight version he loved to tongue fuck, he got rougher.
He has your back arched beautifully with his free hand, fingers hard and punishing, dragging across your pulsing walls.
"Yes?" He coos teasingly. He massages your lower back tenderly and you're almost convinced that he'll stop. Almost.
He's managed to edge you, bringing you up that mountain only to sever the rope, having you crash back down to the ground; as well as overstimulate you, he's made you cum 2 times already.
You whine, face scrunching up,"Please- ugh, stop," your head slumps onto the fabric of the arm rest, a merciful feeling against your skin.
"Stop?" He asks softly, but speeds up his fingers. He then pulls back, slyly inserting his last finger alongside the other two, then thrusting in fast. The wet slap of skin has you whimpering in embarrassment and pure arousal.
"C'mon, gah- ugh," you babble mindlessly, not realizing that your hips have begun to stir, rolling back weakly onto his fingers.
"For someone so desperate to stop, your body is saying otherwise, paskalin," Neteyam lifts the hand from your back, gingerly brushing your hair away from the back of your neck where your skin lays sweaty and it's a swert gesture, your stomach fluttering with adoration,"Come, tahni, one more time."
He grinds his fingers roughly, knuckles brushing all the right places and you cry out, nearly sobbing out a moan as you jerk, cumming on his fingers again.
You heave for breath, slumping onto him completely. He's rubbing your back tenderly, whispering soft praises and petting the back of your thighs.
He then lifts you gently, pacing over to your work space and placing you in front of it before pressing you forward, chest laying down onto the cool metal frame. Your nipples stiffen up against it and you whine, tilting your head to rest your temple down.
He, again, moves your hair to the side, leaning down to press soft kisses to the back of your neck then moving down your spine. He stops at your tailbone, standing to his full height and unties his tewng, dropping it to the floor.
Neteyam eyes your form. Your eyes are closed, chest finally slowing as you relax, and he can't fight the grin taking over his lips as he grips the base of his cock, fully unsheathed by this point, gripping your hip and lifting slightly to press the tip to your sopping hole.
Your eyes shoot open,"Neteyam, no, you made me cum too much-" you whine desperately.
The tip slides in with ease and you groan. The growl he releases above you has your cunt tightening around the tip. His hips buck in reaction, driving more of this enormous length into you. The breath is knocked out of you when he's more than halfway in.
Neteyam takes a breath from his mask,"Breathe, yawne," his hand gently caresses your back.
You huff out a grumble, incoherent words of frustrated arousal making him snort.
He draws his hips back, then fucks into you quick and hard. The pace is unforgiving, you yelp in surprise as you reach that crest way too soon, crying out and rising up on your elbows. He feels your pussy walls clinging to his cock, hot and gummy and perfect. Then he stops.
"God- fuck! Why-" you whine, groaning in frustration.
He has hid cock pulled out so only the tip lays in the entrance, teasing and torturous.
"You were so mean the other night," he smirks, big hand pressing down along your back to hold your wriggling form in place,"Think I deserve an apology."
"You fucker-" you grumble, so horny and so close to cumming but fuck you were angry,"You liked it, don't act like you didn't-"
You cry out in surprise when he suddenly thrusts his entire length into you, gripping your hip in his other hand to hold you down. Makes you cockwarm him, holds you still as you sob out in pleasure. He fills you up, pressing into all the right spots with no effort.
Your chest heaves, body slumping back against the metal of your desk.
"What was that?" He brushes your hair away from your face,"Yeah, I did like it. Loved how you got all jealous, it was adorable. But you should still apologize."
You pant, at a loss for words. Your pussy stretches wide to accommodate his length and girth. You swallow thickly, nodding in defeat,"M sorry, Teyam," your voice is strained.
He draw back, thrusting back into you gently, an even worse pace as he takes his time unraveling you.
You shiver with delight, finally seeing that crest, hoping it'd be the last time. But it seems Neteyam is not so forgiving, again severing the rope and tugging his cock out of your pussy completely.
You gasp, groaning in disappointment. You blink at him weakly,"I apologized! What the fuck-"
"Beg for it," is all he says, stroking his cock and using your slick as a lube.
"What?"
"Beg for my cock, tahni."
You lift your head, peering at him in bewilderment. Your mouth opens in surprise, not knowing what to say.
He beats you to it,"Beg for me to make you cum, or I will make you get yourself off."
You shiver at his tone. He'd never been so.. commanding. But damn is it the hottest thing you've heard.
"Please, Neteyam," you start, whining lightly.
He only quirks an eyebrow, fist rolling over his length lazily.
Your face grows hotter and you bite your lower lip in embarrassment before huffing lowly. You reach back weakly, bones still feeling like jelly from the many orgasms, then spread yourself open. Your pussy and asshole are on display and you shiver; your cunt pulses, wanting to be filled. You hear the huff turned growl low in his throat and you feel yourself somehow get wetter.
"Please, Teyam," you make your voice whiney, sultry in a way,"Please, fuck me, make me cum."
He steps closer, teasingly pressing his tip over your folds,"Again."
You groan,"Please just- fuck me!" You plead desperately,"fill me up, fuck me, pleasepleaseplease."
He groans, finally pressing into you quick and harsh, immediately setting a rough pace. You're surely going to have bruises where your body bends over the desk.
He rolls his hips, bucking into you and groaning above you, moving to place his hands above you and lean down to nip at your neck.
You can't stop the stream of moans and cries leaving your throat, too far gone to the pleasure of him ruining your insides.
You faintly realize his thrusts into you are actually making a lot of noise, the desk slamming into the wall at the force of it, pens and other miscellaneous items toppling off to be ignored until tomorrow.
"Oh, god," you whine, eyes clenching shut as he bites your shoulder rougher than anticipated, but the hottest thing ever.
He groans hot against your skin as your walls clamp down on him.
"So good for me, tahni," he moans breathlessly, then leans back to press his hand down on the back of your neck and holding you there as he fucks into you at a slower pace, but the force is harsh. You shriek out a long moan, whining as his fingers wrap around your neck. They don't add pressure, but just the thought that they could has you jerking hard and hitting the hardest orgasm he's given to you.
Your slick squirts out, coating his pubic bone, dripping down his thighs and making a ring around his cock as he groans, thrusting just a few more times until finally he stills, hips pressed firmly against your ass as he dumps his load deep into you. It spews out around his cock and several splats of it hit the floor. There's so much, almost too much as it fills your cunt.
There's nothing but the sound of heavy breathing, until he begins to pull out of you and his cum begins to seep out of you steadily.
The aftercare is tender and soft, he showers you underneath the warm spray in your shower, gently fingering his cum out of you and managing another low, weak orgasm and you are officially putty in his arms.
You sink into his chest, wet hair dripping down to hit his neck and he smiles soft as you are already dozed off. He continues to rub your back softly, then cringes inwardly as he eyes the bitemark on your shoulder. He makes a mental note to make it up to you the next day.

bleach
relationship: Gekko x gen!reader || Mateo x gen!reader
listed tags: fluff, friends to lovers (?), reader being a good nuera/yerno, oneshot
trigger warnings: none
synopsis: Bleaching some hair gets a little heated.
Tumblr media
You and Mateo have known each other since before you knew how to write your own name. You were there when you each first scratched your knees attempting to learn how to ride a skateboard, down to when the first light had occurred.
Needless to say, the two of you have been through the thick of it, and when Mateo asked for you to come over and help him with a new look, well, you couldn’t resist the offer.
It didn’t even take a second after you knocked on the door, for it to fling open, revealing Mateo with a giant grin. Wingman stood to his right, peaking over the side of his leg.
“Por fin! (1) I knew you’d pull through.” He said, taking one of the bags from your hands and handing it over to his companion.
You grinned in return, “Of course I did, I couldn't let you damage your hair alone.”, You joked as you reached down to pet the little creature, “Now come on, let’s get this over with before your mom kills both of us.”
Stepping into the small home you immediately greet the older woman who was busy cutting up a variety of fruits, “Hola Señora, ¿cómo está hoy?”(2)
“Aye, bien mijita/mijito, ¿cómo está su mamá?” (3) Mateo 's mother looked up from where she stood in the kitchen, “Todavía está tomando ese té que lo mande?”,(4) she whipped her hands on her apron, walking around the small island to greet you with a hug.
You laughed, shaking your head as the two of you parted, “Lo termino, pero eya empenso a tomar ajo y curcuma.” (5) you said, turning to Mateo, making a sour face at the thought of the combination. “She even started putting it in my licuados.” (6)
This sparked up a whole conversation between you and Mateo’s mother, as she went over the multitudes of things your mom should start eating to improve her health. It didn’t last long before Mateo came in to save the day from his mothers ranting, “Perdoname mami,(7) but we got something super important to do.” He insisted, nudging you towards the hallway that led to his room.
The older woman rolled her eyes at her son and waved the two of you off, “Fine, fine, pero dejan la puerta abierta.” (8) She half joked, returning to her previous task.
Mateo could feel his ears heaten up at the implications and groaned out a small ‘aye ama’(9). You chuckled at his embarrassment and shot the woman a thumbs up as you let your friend lead you further into his house.
Entering Mateo’s room, you immediately made yourself at home pushing away the random junk he had laying around to make room for your snacks and bleaching materials. You set up your makeshift salon station, passing a chip or two to the quartet of creatures that watched you with interest, mainly interested in the snacks you had. As you finished setting up, you threw a curious glance to Mateo who was spinning himself around with his desk chair, ‘patiently’ waiting for you to finish.
“You ready for this?” You questioned, slipping on a pair of latex gloves before making your way around the man, a bowl filled with a mixture of bleach and developer in hand. He stopped his spinning, his eyes met yours as he looked at your reflection in the mirror. He grinned and gave you a nod of approval, “Show me whatcha got.”
“Just let me know if it starts to burn,” you warned.
Taking the brush into your hand, you started on the back of his head, trying to angle your strokes perfectly so as to not get any of the bleach onto his skin. This process took a while and continued till you finally reached the front of his head.
You were so close, he thought, your legs straddled his own as you leaned in closer for better precision around his hairline. Mateo could feel his heart pounding rapidly in his chest, his hands twitched as they tensed up to his side. Of course, he was aware of the fact that he had a thing for you, he always did. He never acted on it directly though, but with you so close he- “Quedate quieto.” (10) You practically whispered as you placed one of your gloved hands under his chin, tilting his head up for a better angle.
Mateo’s face burned as you cradled his head, he’s never gotten such an up-close view of you before. He swore he could die a happy man with a view like this. He watched as your eyebrows scrunched and contorted with a look of concentration. The way your lips pursed ever so slightly as you meticulously painted his hair with bleach, he had half a mind to take the brush from you and pull you down for a kiss himself.
“And I think that should be it.” You stated as you finished applying the last of the bleach to Mateo’s hair. It was only then, as you pulled back slightly to inspect your work, did you realize the position you had placed yourself in. Your breath hitched as your eyes met Mateos' own, your hand still hovering gently under his chin.
You didn’t know what came over you, maybe it was the fact that you could feel the warmth of his body under your skin that made your head feel light. Maybe you simply had breathed in too much of the bleach and now it was messing with your head. Whatever the cause you couldn’t help yourself when you leaned down and captured his partially chapped lips for a kiss.
Mateo was stunned by your action but quickly recovered and reciprocated the kiss. His hands grazed over the top of your body gently, dipping between every curve and crevice trying to memorize every detail into the depths of his brain. He shifted you in closer, one of his hands making its way to your thigh to hold you in place, while the other came around to grip your waist.
The two of you lost track of time in the little universe you created where only the two of you existed. Neither of you could tell when Mateo had finally brought you down to sit comfortably in his lap, or when you had lost the bowl of bleach as or when your other hand wrapped around his neck, but the two of you weren’t in the mood to care.
Key:
1. Finally 2. (formal greeting to an older woman) Hello Ma’am, how are you? 3. mijita/mijito: a term of endearment typically from an older person to a younger person, used in a similar context as sweetie. Not to be used in a romantic sense/relationship. "Sweetie, how is your mom?" = "Mijita, how is your mom?" 4. Is she still drinking the tea I sent her? 5. She finished it, but has started to drink ginger and turmeric instead. 6. (a shake/smoothie) 7. Forgive me, mom. /Excuse me, mom./ I’m sorry, mom. 8. But, leave the door open. 9. Mom, please. (a whiney, complained/embarrassed way of saying it) 10. Stay still.

iBook Pyramid Behind the scenes!
This is a long one. Also keep in mind we made this a year ago so were going completely off of memory at this point BUT we do have the files. Unfortunately we didn't save specific versions of it really early into its creation so all the blender files close to being finished.
Tumblr media
We have an intense appreciation for funky old computers. People correctly identified inspiration from the Thinkpad 701C. Less obvious in the final design but something that almost certainly influenced us as well was the 12-inch powerbook g4.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is something very satisfying about nearly-square shaped laptops.
Others mentioned the JVC 3100R pyramid TV which, you'll be surprised to learn, we had never actually seen until after working on this project. The resemblance is uncanny and yet, entirely coincidental. Honestly if we had seen this thing, it probably would have had an effect on our design because the way that hinge is set up is beautiful. Our thought process was simply just comically emulating the form factor of a modern laptop but with a giant CRT.
Tumblr media
We're pretty sure the idea started out as simply wanting to design a full profile keyboard into a macbook-like laptop because funny, and at some point the butterfly keyboard came to mind and we said Screw it and implemented that into it as well. Heres the keyboard separated into the different sections.
Tumblr media
Sorry to say that the keyboard does not actually contain any switches. (You'll see that this computer was modeled to be viewed a limited angle)
Tumblr media
Heres the keyboard from the top.
Tumblr media
Once we got going with it, the whole thing was turned into a big joke of course, clashing many different eras of technology into one. Such as this massive beige tank of a "laptop" having a single USB C port as its main I/O.
Tumblr media
And same with the software. This is the texture for the display, Which was taken from our real (unfortunately not crt based) macbook setup at the time. Except not quite, as the original screenshot was 16:10. We simply edited the image to make it 4:3. This is running mac os 12 with a majority of the icons changed to early osx equivalents.
Tumblr media
We'll be real and admit the animation is not very intricate, theres no real "rig" for the model, parts are just parented together because we did all this in about 2 days. That said, we had loads of fun animating it still, trying to imitate the motion of someone struggling to lift the heavy top up before it swings open with an inaudible, but easily imaginable "Thud". Making the whole body shake and the trackball jump slightly was the finishing touch to make it complete.
Tumblr media
The wire for the trackball was made using a circle with the screw modifier and then applied to a curve. Here's what it looks like with each modifier applied sequentially.
Tumblr media
And then making the trackball itself a handle for the curve, we can have the cable be dynamic. (Yes, we notice that the trackball in fact has no mouse buttons. No good explanation for that, I think we just forgot lmao.)
Tumblr media
For the screen, we make use of a location transform on the UV mapping for the satisfying detail of the screen distorting from the impact, which we swear we've seen before but no matter how hard we (safely) bumped our CRT monitor we weren't able to recreate it. Nonetheless even if its not entirely realistic we wouldn't remove it for anything.
Tumblr media
speaking of which, an utterly useless detail considering the resolution and distortion of the final renders and yet we added anyways just for our own amusement is that the display has a shadowmask, simply done by just multiplying it over the base screen texture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Combined with a glass material over the inner part of the screen, it utterly destroys low sample count renders of the screen and makes the project at least 3x as prone to crashing so thats cool! (it crashed on us while we were writing this section)
Tumblr media
We've learned since in future projects that trying to optimize polygon count and materials is still very important even for offline rendered content. We can never be truly free from the constraints of memory limitations 😔
the final step was getting a more authentic less "polished" look in the compositing. This step can get very complicated based on the specific look were going for, but for this render its really just basic color correction and some blurring and sharpening steps. We used the default fake jitter node in blender at the time, though in more recent stuff we use the non-denoised image with filters applied to it instead, so its less uniform between images and more uniquely degraded looking.
Tumblr media
Though we'd do a number of things differently now were still pleased with the final result. especially in animated form.
Heres an overview of the scene:
Tumblr media
This is the bezeled apple logo in polygon form. Its simply an alpha texture with a normal map:
Tumblr media
Thats all for now! Thank you for reading!

Joining My Stepson
Tumblr media
Well, she wasn't too happy with us. We'd gone to a 'Beer Festival' and gotten pretty obnoxious and were pretty much the same way when we got home. Since it was really late, my wife said she'd 'deal with it tomorrow'. We both knew what that would mean for her son, Kyle. He'd be over her lap, begging, and she wouldn't let him up until she was sure he'd learned a lesson.
I walked by as she was 'making sure' and she looked up, pointed her paddle at me and said, 'and you're next, mister!'
I sort of laughed it off, uneasily. She probably spanked her son (my step-son) every couple of months or three, despite him being 19. That's a lot different from her spanking me, which she'd never done.
Tumblr media
@portraitsofspankedmen
"Oh come on," I told her later when Kyle was in his room, "How's that even going to work? I'm not a kid, and he isn't, anymore, either."
Taking the 'a spanking wouldn't work on me' position was not a smart move on my part.
"We'll see how tough you are when you're over my knee," she said.
I was trying to bluff it out. It was pretty clear that Kyle did not enjoy having her spank him (which is exactly why she did it) and really was a well-behaved kid. It was sure to hurt, and I'm not big into pain. Plus, I'm a full-grown adult. "You don't tell me what to do," I told her, "Not all the time, anyway."
Tumblr media
@beautiful-when-she-s-angry
On the other hand.
My wife is, after all, a strong, decisive woman who was more than a little mad at me, and at times I can be a bit of a fuck-up. First of all, if I let her spank me, it'll make her happy, whether it teaches me anything or not, and if it really hurts, well, maybe I deserve it.
As if reading my mind, she says "You deserve it every bit as much as Kyle, maybe more. You took him there, you bought the beer, even though he's underage."
"He'll always be underage to you," I said, probably not wisely. "And I didn't have to buy him beer."
"Oh, so he's got a fake ID?" she said, and I realized that maybe I just got him into more trouble.
"I don't know, they weren't checking. Not mine, anyway," I explained lamely.
By now I was just looking for the easiest way out of this and I was thinking it might just be over her lap.
"Okay, we'll do this. Some time he's out of the house," I offered.
"No no no," she countered. "Right now. It'll be good for him to hear that you get the same as he did."
Well, the paddling he got was no laughing matter - at least he didn't think so. "What, that hard, the first time? I wasn't doing any underage drinking."
"I thought you weren't worried about it. If anything, you should get more," she insisted. "You're supposed to be the adult here. Especially since you think I still consider him just a kid."
"You know, you're kinda sexy when you're like this," I blurted.
"Oh yeah? Well let's just see how sexy you think I am after."
Tumblr media
That was about all there was to say. I knew she'd take my pants down, that was the drill. I was getting a bit of a boner but nothing she hadn't seen before, right? Pretty soon she was sitting and I was lying across her lap. Maybe both of us were a little nervous. I know I was.
Tumblr media
She was right, there was no 'first time mercy'. She spanked hard! And took her time doing it. If only that had been the end of it!
Tumblr media
@beautiful-when-she-s-angry
Round 2 was with her hairbrush and she made that count, too! Have to think that since Kyle could hear us he had to be impressed.
Tumblr media
When she was done I had to stand up and show her the results. Fortunately for my butt, she was satisfied (at least with the spanking she gave).
At that point we closed the bedroom door so she could be satisfied in another way. Quietly!
I wasn't entirely convinced this was fair, but I didn't want any more convincing!
Tumblr media
"What about me?" I asked when I stood up, my hard-on suggestively at mouth level.
"Not till tonight, dear. Don't want Kyle getting the wrong idea!"
So I had to wait, miserable, until bedtime.
Tumblr media
She even admitted that she sort of got off on spanking me. Especially hard!
"That never happened with Kyle, of course," she said, and I was glad to hear that, at least.
Tumblr media
Then she wanted me on bottom!
"I want that sexy butt I heated so well slamming into the bed so I can feel you thrust up into me," she explained. But believe me, she made it worth my while!

Beautiful Anomaly (Part 4): Morpheus x FReader
Tumblr media
(Gif by missvifdor from this post: Hi ! I am a french — Me: Morpheus I don't see why you are arguing with... (tumblr.com))
Morpheus x FemReader (present day, its a little hard to explain)
A couple of disclaimers:
1.) This is all based on the Netflix show and I have 0 background on the graphic novel it is based on (so don't expect it to be faithful);
2.) This is a fan work, the only benefit I derive from this is sharing it with the community.
And here is Part 4. Thank you to everyone who has been following this story and who has been commenting on all my posts and who has been messaging me (They really make my day). Brief announcement - Part 5 will be posted on the last week of September because a.) my midterms are going to be here soon so I need to focus on that first; and b.) My birthday is on September 30 (So I know people will definitely be awake). Again feel free to comment down below (Why do I sound like a youtuber?)
For those of you who are new. I highly recommend reading the previous parts first because I don't know if you will understand everything without first reading those.
Part 1:
Part 2:
Part 3:
I made it big so you have no choice but to notice it and I cannot be held liable for you not being warned to read those parts first.

"How was your sleep?" You hear Morpheus ask as you take a quick glance at the time showing that it's 4:25 PM and your eyes slowly adjust to the dimly lighted room. Your vision slowly shows Morpheus standing near the doorframe of your small dorm sized bedroom.
"It was energizing. Thank you, Morpheus for that." He gives you a relaxed nod as you stretch out from your bed. You have a hunch that while you were asleep he has briefly returned to the Dreaming to perhaps settle a few things related to his duties and returned to your side the moment he sensed you were about to awaken.
"How was the Dreaming?" His brow twitching up indicated his mild surprise.
"How did you know I returned there?"
"Just a guess, I wasn't entirely sure either. Besides what matters is that you're here again."
"Well I have learned first hand what are the consequences of not listening to you. And it's a mistake that I am actively trying not to repeat." You're glad that you were washing your face right now to freshen up and that Morpheus couldn't see you blush right now. Yet you can't heart can't help but leap at the thought of maybe some hope is not unfounded.
But that was still a mere fantasy, and no matter where this leads you find yourself breathing easier that you and Morpheus were at least talking again.
"And now you will begin learning to actually live. At least in the ordinary human context." You place a thin layer of Maybelline face powder in the shade Nude to counteract the oiliness of your skin. If you weren't feeling lazy you would maybe apply some light eyeshadow to make sure none of the excess oil pouring from your forehead would bother your eyes. But you weren't feeling like it and you were bringing the powder along with the blue oil control film. Besides you weren't dressing up for anything fancy, just formally introducing your daughter to Dream of the Endless. She's already met Death enough times socially in this lifetime to start informally calling her "Aunty".
With one last tug you unbraid your black hair and let it flow out and softly comb only the areas near your scalp and leaving the newly formed curls untouched. Arranging them in a way that was reminiscent of what Yennefer of Vengerberg's hairstyle was. Since this was a casual dinner meet up, you decide to only have just a little bit of dressiness that elevated the casual attire. You come out of your bedroom dressed in dark high waisted denim jeans with a white blouse with floral embroidery.
"Ready to go?" Morpheus has an unreadable expression on his face. From what you can tell, his eyes widening a little bit must have been his surprise from you disturbing him from his own thoughts. Maybe almost like a medical defibrilator.
Just as he was about to stand, a raven arrives at the living room window sill.
That must be his new raven.
You're not sure who or what started the tradition that the Sandman always needs a raven but it seems he is keeping up with tradition.
"Your new worldly assistant?"
"Yes, allow me to introduce you."
"Oh geez boss, are you sure that's a good idea? I mean normally you want me to keep a low profile among humans." Oh so he doesn't know about you yet.
"She's no ordinary human, Matthew. She is Life personified, she lives among mortals in a cycle of life, death and rebirth."
"At least until the last human, if there is any other life that still remains then I'll be reborn as whatever organism that is until no life can exist in the world anymore." Matthew turns to face you. You didn't need to read deeply to know that he was still astonished by what he is currently learning.
"Well then, it's an honor to finally meet you madam." He was definitely very different from Jessamy from the short time you have observed him. He would rather err on the side of caution even if it was scary. But this was paired up with a stubbornness to help Morpheus.
Considering how Morpheus is probably one of the last beings to ask for help if he really didn't need it, this is refreshing. Having someone who forces him to ask for help of any kind.
"Thank you, Matthew was it?"
"Yeah"
"Is this your first time in the waking world?"
"In this part of the waking world, yes. But don't worry I'm very - and I mean very - familiar with the waking world. I used to be human, and I died in my sleep and I still don't know what Lucienne did but somehow when I woke up I'm now a raven." Oh! Well that explains his more cautious nature and a mix between fear and respect in his eyes for you.
"Hmm I see. Has Morpheus taught you how to detect my energy yet?"
"I'm still teaching him how to detect and differentiate energies." Morpheus clarified as you notice that he was standing near you.
"Look I know I'm not as good as little miss perfect Jessamy, but it's a whole new weird sensation for me." Inferiority complex. Probably because he has heard stories of Jessamy.
"Well, Matthew there's a few things that you'll need to know before we go out. The spirits and supernatural beings of this country are known to be a bit territorial when it comes to their homes here."
"And what are their homes?"
"Usually ant mounds, trees, bamboo trees, almost anything from nature. But some have adapted to man made structures."
"Oh great."
"My point is that before landing on an area, say 'Excuse me' then a short introduction to yourself and that you mean no harm. It's a bit easier to distinguish them when you can detect their energies."
"Wait, if they're territorial what do humans do?"
"The humans who can detect them would either respect their wishes or disregard them. They are aware that just like me, most humans can't really detect them and so they also tend to leave them alone for the most part. In your case however you are now in the service of one of the Endless and are considered a supernatural being so they'll be expecting you to show them courtesy."
"You can't detect them?" Morpheus asks as he allows Matthew to go on his shoulder.
"My third eye is closed in this lifetime, it's my mother and one of my best friends who has theirs open. At most I can only hear some voices of the ghosts who still dwell in certain places, but that's about it."
"And what about-"
"They have developed the ability to shapeshift into human forms and have seamlessly integrated into human society. Technically one of them already is human just given supernatural powers that seem to be nightmare fuel by just the concept alone. It would be detrimental to them if they can't be detected by humans in their human forms. The main difference with them is that I don't need to exert any third eye related senses just to talk with them."
You take a glance at your phone and see that Emira has just texted that she is on her way.
"Essentially Matthew just say 'Excuse me, I'm Matthew, the raven of Dream of the Endless, and I'm here in your territory but I mean no harm.' or something along those lines. Now let's go, my daughter is on her way." You turn to get your handbag and after making sure you had everything you need you and Morpheus with Matthew still on his shoulder left your apartment.
"Her daughter?"
"She shares a bond with all of her children. And some of those children have been reincarnated in this time." He continues explaining to Matthew how it all works, with you correcting or adding in some information as you make your way to the cafe called Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf that wasn't too far from where you've lived and just required the willingness to take a walk.
By the time you've reached the cafe doors, Matthew has flown off and it was just you and Morpheus.
For about 5 seconds.
"MOM!" You were almost tackled to the ground but you can't help but laugh as you hug her.
"Hello Emira."
"Oh mom, you have no idea what I've been through -" she begins rapidly chatting with you as you gently guide her inside the cafe with Morpheus following behind. Her concerns were mainly from someone who was new and who hasn't gotten into the course of law school life yet.
"Okay before you continue, let me quickly formally introduce someone to you. Emira, this is Morpheus, Dream of the Endless." It was only then that she took notice of his figure as he steps towards her.
"Oh you're aunty Death's younger brother." He raises an eyebrow.
"She visits you?"
"Technically she visits mom but sometimes I go to mom's apartment when I want to talk about weird life things that I could only tell her - sometimes I feel better actually talking it out loud on front of mom than just through the bond. She's one of the few people who doesn't mind me thinking the way I do - aside from mom that is." After briefly making sure to get Emira's order - Morpheus refuses to take anything and was starting to be more interested in his conversation with Emira than with any actual food or drink- you decide to leave them alone as you make your way lining up behind a few people to make your order.
So far everything was going to plan. Among all your reincarnated children, Melike, or Emira as she is called in this lifetime was not just talkative but was also engaging. Even if Morpheus decided not to talk much, she would still be able to find a way to grab his attention. He couldn't simply rely on living through interactions with you alone. You were only one perspective among many.
And he needs to learn to listen to more than just yours. You weren't always right, you had your flaws, your hypocricies that you don't want to admit to anyone else. Even if you were only a few miliseconds older than Death, you knew you were far from perfect and that there were just too many variables from just the human race alone that you cannot hope to represent them all in yourself.
And Emira is a good starting point. You may not be able to see them physically, but with what Emira is showing you through your bond, based on the non-verbal expressions on his face, Morpheus was at the very least actively listening to her.
After paying for your orders and was given a beeping token that would light up and vibrate when your order was ready, you return to them just in time to hear Morpheus reply to Emira.
"Don't be too hard on yourself, I'm sure even your mother would agree that you are still adjusting to change. You are incredibly capable."
"If it was my first lifetime maybe. But now all I feel is being capable of the artsy side of things while wanting to also go into diplomatic and foreign affairs."
"Just like your mother." His tone held a hidden tenderness that you're not sure if Emira could pick up right away since this is her first time actually talking to him.
"Yes, just like mom. In both in this lifetime and when she was my father's favorite consort. She's given me her diaries that she had kept that I may learn from her even when she had died giving birth to me. And I could still see her pursuit in that and I want to join her in the field of International Relations."
"Speaking of your mother." She turns to look at you as you take your seat in between them.
"If it makes you feel any better my experience was worse."
"How can it be worse than mine?"
"For one, I was the beadle for both my block and in all of our subjects. So imagine playing manager to all subjects while adjusting to being a law student AND learning how to balance both the needs of the professor and the wants of your classmates." Her mouth opens and let out a gasp.
"Oh and I forgot to mention - I did this in both the first and the second semester."
"WHAT?" You nod with a sympathetic smile.
"So yeah, compared to me you have it way easier."
"What she's not telling you is that she also passed all of her subjects."
"WHAT?" You give a pointed look at Morpheus who doesn't bother hiding a smirk as his eyes meet yours.
"Ignore that for now, Em, the point is that you should take your time and just keep studying and do your best. If you need a place to study you can always come to my place."
"But also remember that what seems impossible can be done with hardwork and focus."
"But how do you remember provisions? Memorization isn't my strong suit."
"Sometimes I make up little stories that makes them memorable - but that's just how my brain works okay, some people may find repetition to be more effective."
"Stories? Like cases?"
"Not always - alot of times it would come in the form of bad jokes."
"They're not that bad."
"I thought you were going to say that they weren't jokes."
"Ooh tell me one."
"Once you hear it you'll agree that it's a bad joke. Okay this one is related to Obligations and contracts - What is the legal definition of a crush?"
"What?"
"When you have a right to the fruits but not to the thing when the time of delivery arises." Emira tried holding back her laugh.
"Omg - right to the fruits but not to the thing."
"That's essentially what a crush is. You meet or see a person that you like - that's when delivery arises. But do you automatically have a right over that thing?"
"No."
"Exactly, but can you still admire that person and titilate over that person to your friends and confidants?"
"Yes."
"And that's why my daughter, its only right over the fruits."
"But mom what if it becomes a partner and not a crush anymore?"
"Then delivery has been made. The pre-existing obligation is extinguished as a new one arises."
The plan went surprisingly well. Much to your delight Morpheus wasn't completely silent and even chimed in every now and again. Even during the times he was silent he was actively listening as you and Emira would do most of the talking - perhaps a little too loudly for everyone else. It was only when Emira's biological mother in this time called that you all realized how late it was and how she needed to get home.
Looking back maybe that was when it all started. Hindsight may be 20-20 but it still didn't tell you when things began. Or maybe like many things it was a gradual progression made up of many small choices leading up to a noticeable change.
Since it wasn't always convenient for him to remain in the waking world he would sometimes meet you in your dreams when you permit him so. You'll know when he wants to talk because no matter what dream you were having you would somehow find a letter or a messenger waiting for your response. You were thankful for this since there are days when you just want to indulge in having a sweet dream and not discuss anything related to the waking world. And yet it also allowed you to know that he really was making an effort to understand the nuances and complexities of life beyond what stories could provide.
You recall bringing this up with him during one of his visits in your dreams. Only in your dreams would there exist a library that allowed you to eat and drink inside it and also have a marvelous view of a meadow and the forest that surrounds it. You were dressed in loungewear currently barefoot as you sit cross-legged on a couch that doubled as a bed by the window. Hair unfurled in curls that only came after you untangled your black hair from your fishtail braid. A round table with an ornate design was in the empty space that covered the couch's semi-circle entrance with the area closest to the window in a conventional rectangle shape so that when you don't feel like sitting, you could always lie down by the window with the round table acting as an impromptu nightstand.
Across from you on the otherside of the round table sat Morpheus with a chair pulled from one of the unused desks.
"Sometimes I feel like humans in particular are a little too addicted to stories sometimes."
"And why do you say that?"
"Morpheus, don't tell me you don't know the concept of gossip. Stories provide both pleasure and pain and is one of the ultimate ways to help a person grow or to break them down depending on what story you tell and how you tell it. It in my opinion is the thing that differentiates humans from all other species, the need and desire to know a story. Or to make one when there is no story that is satisfying enough for the individual."
"And yet you are one such individual."
"Much like many people, I can't help it. And yet you can't deny that there are things outside of a story that frequently gets over looked by those addicted to stories."
"Such as?"
"Beings simply beings. It would be more entertaining for anyone if there was a story of either great victory, great defeat, or simply a crazy unusual event rather than a mundane moment like two friends sharing a good meal or a person doing Duolingo to learn high valyrian. Sometimes they may afford a thought to the end result but not to the everyday grind and details."
"In this instance I will have to disagree with you." He becomes more relaxed in his position as you turn to look at him.
"True, there are things that an individual may simply take for a fact. But they may also be little stories themselves or may serve as part of a bigger story in their minds."
"That only proves my point of humans craving stories. Maybe it's because humans in particular have a brain that wants to see a pattern even when the facts are just mere coincidences rather than a conspiracy made by the universe."
"But don't you see that even your argument is a story in itself. You say that humans in particular neglect to see beyond the stories they tell themselves and yet the examples you've cited are all instances where small stories could be made or interpreted."
"Stories requires conflict Morpheus, and not all moments in life need to have conflict."
"True, but you also enjoy Saint oniisan a japanese movie made up of slice of life moments. And in many of those the fictionalized versions of Buddha and Jesus enjoy meals, trips, and shopping together. Like your example those are also moments from daily life. But even you cannot deny that it is a story nevertheless." Damn he got you there.
"Okay and what about my example of the daily grind of learning High Valyrian from Duolingo?"
"The story could be one of persistence and accomplishment. Appreciation for the journey as show of growth or defeat depending on the choices made." You sigh as he was able to poke holes into your arguments. He has a point but -
"Still - moments and things outside of stories still need to be appreciated more. Sometimes the stories told about ourselves or the things that we don't know are exagerrated versions of things that are nowhere near the truth. It's almost as if many individuals cannot accept that sometimes things simply are."
"I will admit you have a point. But if that were always the case then there would be no fuel for humans to take action and change the things that don't serve them."
"A neutral trait, like many things when used to the extreme it could lead to disaster." You see his expression briefly recall the time when he was captured and imprisoned by Roderick Burgess. A man who was aiming to capture Death to bring back his preferred son.
A man who cannot accept that things have changed and it showed in his response.
Maybe that was also true for Morpheus before his recent experiences according to many others who were either his creations or Calliope his former wife who was also imprisoned.
He looks into your eyes. His expression changing into something that you are not able to read, but you can feel a softness to it.
"And yet it was you taking action that things changed." He could tell you were also thinking of that time in your most recent past life.
"I've told you before that I couldn't simply leave you there."
"And yet you had the choice to do so. And out of all the beings that wouldn't have come to my aid, you were the one I couldn't entirely blame for not helping."
"Bold choice of words. I thought the first one would be either Desire or Destiny."
"Desire despises me which I blame on their ego and Destiny could have at least sent me a warning."
"You know how my sort of parent works. Destiny will probably just reason that if you were foretold then it wouldn't happen and that it needed to happen." You see some sort of a smile appear on his lips as you see him contemplate on his experiences since then.
"Perhaps. You've always told me before that the only thing constant is change."
"When you experience life and stories the way I do, it's hard to ignore change."
"Do you think I've changed since then?" You close your eyes to contemplate briefly.
"You have, even though a lot of you still remains unchanged."
"Is that so?"
"Just to be clear, sometimes things being unchanged is also good. It's not always diametrically opposed to the things that have changed. Like when the Try guys were trying on Keith's wardrobe which now have plenty of bright patterns, it turns out they miss him wearing his signature blue squares. 'The more things change the more some things remain the same' is what they said. Or something along those lines."
"And what would you say has changed and remain unchanged in me?"
"Oh we are going to be here for awhile." You change your position to straighten your back and move closer to the rounded edge of the couch to let your legs dangle over the edge.
"For the things that have remained unchanged, you still prefer brooding over your emotions - sometimes to the point where Death and I have to intervene to prevent further self-pity - you prefer to observe and watch. You are still stubborn about certain things, some of which I agree, disagree, or a mixture of the two."
"Such as now?"
"Yes. And you still have some problems simply communicating - but that is slowly changing since you are more open now than you were before and sometimes it takes time to really appreciate any improvements made."
"I'm glad to see you've noticed." You aren't sure if the tone he was using was a teasing one or if it was just simply lighter.
"But there are some things I am happy remained unchanged. You are still a wonderful creator and storyteller, which as the personification of dreams I am unsurprised by. You still do your best to do what is right and uphold your responsibilities - even though sometimes the way you go on about it may be questionable without first doing some prior research to be absolutely sure. And you still provide hope for everyone who seeks it in their dreams. As for what has changed -"
You pause as Morpheus shares the expression you have.
You were starting to wakeup.
"I guess what I'll have to say will have to wait for the next time we are both free. But I think you have some awareness of what has changed in you. What I have to say may just be redundant."
"On the contrary I enjoy hearing your perspective."
And that was the end of that conversation as you woke up and went about your day. Even then you didn't know what to make of the expressions on his face that was softer towards you or how sometimes his tone would be noticeably lighter when responding to comments.
"I wouldn't mind him as a step father." Your mind was immediately brought back to the present as you and Emira were eating a platter of fresh salmon sashimi that you ordered the night before in preparation for her visit. It was lunchtime and you two were seated across each other with your study materials pushed to one side of the large rectangular table while the side that you two occupied. She was using a fork because she's still working on mastering how to use chopsticks. On the platter you placed serving chopsticks and provided by the vendor and a serving fork on Emira's side while you ate the salmon sashimi slices with your own pair of chopsticks.
"Huh? What brought this on?"
"The way he looks at you; the way he teases and flirts with you; the way he responds to you."
"Are you sure you aren't thinking about somebody else? This doesn't sound like the Dream of the Endless that I know of."
"That's the point, maybe this is a new side that he's showing you - or showing me to maybe try and convince you." You swallow a salmon sashimi before sighing.
"It's not impossible since he's had lovers before - but I highly doubt that he's interested in me that way."
"Oh come on mom, because of you his own recent creations are better than before."
"That's because of the assignment I gave him about visiting the Waking world more frequently and to really be in the moment. But that's all based on his experience. I just gave him the prompt to do so."
"Well okay then why does he go to you specifically to talk about life?"
"I am Life. But I don't think this is an indication that he's romantically interested in me. The next best being he could consult with is either Death or Hobs."
"Okay I'll give you that, he still visits them. But has he seen Hobs fangirl over the release of SB19's new song?" You couldn't help but laugh at that. Soon after his first meeting with Emira, he has somehow made time to visit you and Emira the Friday of that week. Both you and Emira had your classes cancelled because of a thunderstorm. Emira managed to convince her parents to let her stay with you for the weekend since despite the thunderstorm you had better internet connection and your apartment was within walking distance to the law school and was more accessible. It also helped that security was tight and Emira had to register with the reception area and also had to indicate approximately how long she was going to stay. She brought everything needed to study and to prepare for class proper.
On her first day of stay as she arrived during lunch time and threw her things in the bed of one of your two guestrooms. Morpheus had materialized inside and had just finished his greetings to you when Emira rushed in holding her smartphone.
"MOM SB19 JUST PREMIERED THEIR NEW SONG WHERE YOU AT."
"WHAT?! I'm sorry Morpheus but this takes priority - Let me turn on my desktop so we have a bigger screen." You didn't wait for Morpheus to reply as you immediately rushed to what would normally be your work area, but for now it has also become your source of entertainment.
"What's SB19?" At this Emira looked at him in shock. You on the other hand, not so much.
"You're the king of dreams and YOU DON'T KNOW WHO SB19 IS?!"
"I think we should wait for a few minutes after the premiere. Just to make sure everything is in working order. Okay Morpheus, try to keep up because Em and I are very excited but I'll try to briefly explain WHO is SB19." You're still not completely sure if Morpheus was able to actually comprehend what you and Emira explained but he at least remained silent for the two of you to quickly explain that SB19 were essentially the kings of PPOP or Filipino Pop and this latest single is in celebration of their first world tour. The moment you hear the desktop spring to life you quickly go on youtube and to SB19's channel.
Looking back you're not completely sure what was going on in his head since admittedly your attention was occupied fangirling over the latest song "Where you at". It also didn't help that your bias, Ken - whose legal name is Felip Jhon Suson since he uses "Felip" for his solo songs - essentially started the song and ever since you saw him driving a car in a 50s inspired look, you basically didn't care that Morpheus was essentially seeing you as a rabid fan girl. It also didn't help that your biaswrecker Stell had very sexy dance moves while singing the first pre-chorus while acting a lot like Danny from Grease with some Elvis moves.
After essentially shrieking and screaming like the couple of fangirls the two of you are. The replay of the song was essentially you and Emira dancing along to it while Morpheus just laid back with an amused look on his face.
🎶"Let's not waste our time And try to reconnect the lines, oh yeah I miss getting electrified When I look in your eyes, oh baby!"🎶
🎶"Where you at? There's no groove within this music No sign of your heartbeat in it, I'm alone, yeah So sad, will I ever get connected? 'Cause you're already embedded In my heart and soul, yeah"🎶
"I LOVE YOU PABLO!" You hear Emira scream the next time the leader and writer of the song, Pablo - legal name: John Paulo Nase and who initially debuted as Sejun before changing it to Pablo during the Pagsibol era of SB19 and before the release of their song "What?" - appeared on screen. This time it was black and white as he was singing the second pre-chorus.
🎶"Let's not waste our time And try to reconnect the lines, oh yeah I miss getting electrified When I see all your smiles, oh baby!"🎶
🎶"Where you at? There's no groove within this music No sign of your heartbeat in it, I'm alone, yeah So sad, will I ever get connected? 'Cause you're already embedded In my heart and soul, yeah"🎶
"Oh your bias wrecker is up next Em."
"I don't know the rap yet so I'm just going to dance." While you let her dance on front of the screen you take a quick break from your mini SB19 dance party to sip some water and to check in on Morpheus.
"I'm sorry Morpheus for interrupting our conversation. I promise we'll continue after this."
"No need to worry. I'm quite entertained as to how the two of you are enjoying yourselves."
"Are you sure you don't mind?" He gives you an amused grin.
"I'm sure - and you better hurry back. The last chorus is about to begin." And before you know it, Emira was dragging you back on front of the screen for the final part of the song.
🎶"Where you at? Let's go groove into this music Oh, I can feel all your heartbeats' in the zone, yeah Go mad, now that we got reconnected We'll forever be embedded In our hearts and souls, yeah"🎶
🎶"Where you at? Let's go groove into this music Oh, I can feel all your heartbeats' in the zone, yeah Go mad, now that we got reconnected We'll forever be embedded In our hearts and souls, yeah"🎶
After two more rounds of dancing, and finally you and Emira were exhausted enough to settle down and discuss some parts of the song with Morpheus. Salient points being that Pablo wrote the song while missing his co-members because they were all forced apart to quarantine for a deadly disease. The song was produced by Pablo and his brother Joshua, choreographed by Stell, and the creative director for the music video is Justin, the youngest member of the group.
"I didn't catch this the first time but I just realized that after the bridge the lyrics in the chorus changed."
"You mean 'Oh, I can feel all your heartbeats' in the zone, yeah Go mad, now that we got reconnected' that part?"
"Oh yes! Because they're together again and they'll be going on tour and meet the A'tin again - A'tin is the official fandom name of SB19 Lord Morpheus. And don't judge me, I know mom picked up the meaning in the lyrics before I did."
"I wasn't saying anything."
"Your smirk is."
"I'm just amused. This is my first time watching anything like this up close."
"In the Waking world at least. And you must be more than familiar with similar behavior in people's dreams."
"True, but thanks to the two of you I'm actually enlightened as to why."
"Oh?" You say in a lighthearted tone. "And what insight have Emira and I provided you?"
"Celebration, appreciation, energizing movement, and heartfelt joy. I may be a stranger to your source of joy, but I still find myself thoroughly enjoying the way you two are touched by their music and the way you celebrate and appreciate them. And because of that you are energized by the song they have given you and it almost compels you to move. Towards what and how is up to you." You find yourself smiling and titilated by this. More than you would like to admit. A part of you says that you can still blame it on the high you got from singing and dancing hard to the latest song that quickly became one of your favorites when you just need to feel good. It didn't help that you know Morpheus was being genuine and it was confirmed by the non-verbal expressions on his face as his lips give a smile instead of a smirk.
Shortly after that, Emira goes off to her room to study for her subjects while you and Morpheus stayed to talk about his most recent experience in the waking world.
"I'm not sure if you've noticed mom, but he was definitely looking at you in an affectionate way. I can tell I've had boyfriends in this lifetime."
"He was just sharing his observations in the Waking world. It's basically just a student reporting to his teacher."
"Mom, little by little he was moving towards you as you got more engaged by his story about an old man who refuses to completely retire and who in his spare time still likes to drive around in a Cadillac car. The only reason he didn't hold your hand was because he respected your boundaries and because neither of you has made a move yet. But trust me, he's interested and I'm simply just telling you that I wouldn't mind it if he became my step-father that's all."
"Emira he's a good storyteller when he chooses to be. Of course I'm going to be engaged when he's actually entertaining me. Also you forget that despite his appearance he isn't human. He has no idea what personal space is or how by going into someone's personal space it may imply something more. Let's not jump into conclusions for now okay?"
"...Fine" She pouts as she picks up a salmon sashimi with her fork.
"Besides I'm not the only human he has been visiting."
"But does he appear beside Hobs when it's time to sleep and through his voice lulls him to sleep?"
"Not that I know of."
"Exactly, there's no evidence for it. And until there is, it should at most be treated as a theory."
"Look, I appreciate that I have your blessing if in case...it goes there. But right now it's premature and might simply be moot and academic. As long as there is no cause of action then there is nothing to act upon or respond to."
Emira wanted to argue back but she also couldn't deny that you had a point. Morpheus was and Endless and he didn't always understand humanity. There would be a cognitive dissonance between him, an Endless and the standards that humans are judged by. By what you can recall of his romantic history, if he wanted to pursuit someone he would make it very clear without any room for ambiguity.
He hasn't done that for you so therefore you have no reason to think any affection he has shown was anything but friendly. He also showed affection in varying levels to Jessamy, Lucienne, and everyone else he was on good terms with. You were not part of the exception but rather the general rule.
Speaking of affection.
"Okay I'm sick of not being able to call you anything. Parent is too impersonal and you know why I don't want to call you father." Jared says as he calls you through the messenger app. It was lunchtime in your location and to keep up with the healthy diet, you and Emira decided to have sushi rolls this time. You both need all the omega 3 fish oil for your brain to function.
"Hey bro, how about Zaza? I found it among the gender neutral terms for parents." Emira responds as you go to the door to pick up the food delivery.
"Hmm that could work. But why Zaza? I can't tell my parents that a woman one year younger than me is technically my father."
"Don't be ridiculous, how about a nickname for a tiktok dance?"
"Neither she nor I have tiktok."
"An ancient goddess?"
"Okay but why? They might think I'm trying to flirt with her which is something I don't want to happen at all."
"A Dungeons and Dragons thing? How come I'm the only one trying to come up with ideas. This is your problem."
"You're more creative than me, sister. Of course you would be able to think of a solution."
"This is supposed to be a team effort."
"Children you're over thinking this." You say towards your phone as you set up and arrange the sushi orders. The california maki for Emira, the Ebi tempura maki for you, and in between the two of you was a large platter of salmon and tuna sashimi with a serving fork for her and serving chopsticks for you.
"Sometimes the most believable stories are the most mundane ones. Jared since our cover story is that we met online through tumblr because of our mutual interest on environmental issues we'll say that one day I was telling you about the fast fashion industry and its effects on the environment."
"...okay but how does that relate to me calling you zaza?"
"Simple, I made a typo that said zaza. You got confused because you've never heard of a brand named zaza and then I realized my mistake, and told you that I meant Zara."
"Oh and you couldn't help but call her zaza ever since then."
"That...actually could work and is very in character of you."
"Also since zaza is still obscure, your biological parents in this time won't know that its your way of showing filial affection towards me."
In your periphery you see Morpheus materialize as he joins you and Emira in the dining table.
"This is going to be embarassing but I need to sleep now and I could use your help in actually going to sleep."
"Didn't I send you the recording?"
"That's the regular version with the English lyrics. I'm trying to relearn some Hebrew."
"The Hebrew version is going to be nothing like the Hebrew we spoke in back in the day."
"It's okay I just want some form of familiarity even though it wouldn't actually be the same thing. And it also helps that in this time you can actually sing."
"Are you saying I couldn't back when I was your father?"
"To be honest I didn't really like it. Or maybe it's because I'm biased towards female singing voices."
"You're biased."
"Oh as if you aren't also biased for instrumentalists."
"Children."
"Sorry mom." "Sorry."
"Jared just give me ... 30 minutes, I can't let this sushi go to waste."
"Of course, there are still some things I need to do before going to bed."
"Okay just keep the call going but we'll just mute ourselves alright."
You turn towards Morpheus who was simply listening on your conversation with your children.
"Morpheus can you please check if Jared has entered the dreaming? I'm going to be singing a relatively short song and sometimes it can take multiple rounds before he actually falls asleep."
"How shall I let you know?"
"Maybe wave or a stop sign with your hand so that I may know when to stop."
"Or perhaps I can come to your side once I sense him in my domain."
"That may startle me. And I would rather not make any sudden shriek after singing the song multiple times." His expression becomes assuring.
"I won't startle you, but I will give you a sign of when you can stop."
"Thank you. Emira I'll go to my bedroom first to sing your brother to sleep. It has better acoustics."
"Okay mom, I'll leave some salmon for you. Can I have the rest of the tuna?"
"Knock yourself out."
You and Morpheus make your way to your bedroom bringing your phone with you and getting into a comfortable position for singing.
"Are you ready?" He nods.
"Jared are you there?"
"Yes -" He yawns before telling you that he was ready to listen.
Making yourself comfortable, you insert your earphones in the jack and point the mic to your mouth as you begin to sing.
"ילדי הטוב והרך [Yeldi hatov ve'harach]
אל תירא ואל תפחד. [Al tira ve'al tifchad]
ילדי, זאת ממני תקבל [Yaldi, zot mimeni tekabel]
רק סיכוי להנצל [rak sikui lehinatsel]
לאל שוב אתפלל [lael shuv etpalel]
הו, אלי! [Ho eli hoshiana]"
Instead of dead silence, you immediately begin a vocalization of the lullaby's melody, transitioning into the actual lullaby part of the song.
"אל נא תבכה, הרדם במנוחה [Al na tivke, heradem bimnucha]
הקשב לאוושת הגלים [Hakshev Leivshat hagalim]
אותך מרדימה בשיר ערש אמך [Otcha mardima beshir eres imcha]
איתך אהיה לעולמים [Itcha ehiyeh le’olamim]
מי הנהר שבנחת קולחים [Mey hanahar shebenachat kolchim]
שמרו על אוצר כה מושלם [Shimru al otsar ko mushlam]
אם תמצאו איזה חוף מבטחים [Im timtseu eize chof niftachim]
אותו נא הביאו לשם. [Oto na haviu lesham]"
As you do a softer version of the vocalization that comes after the lullaby, you take a glance at Morpheus hoping the question in your face is enough for him to read. Thankfully he picks it up quickly.
He mouths to you "Not yet" in a whisper.
You take a breath before starting another round of Yocheved's part in Deliver us. Once again only doing it in Hebrew, as per Jared's request.
After the third round you see Morpheus raise his hand in a stop signal. Jared has entered the dreaming, your job is done.
"Do you still remember speaking Hebrew?"
"Not really. If I peak into my memories I could still understand myself and everything spoken and written in Hebrew but like many skills if it isn't practiced then it isn't retained. I only know the meaning of the song because growing up I first learned it in English. However whenever I do hear Hebrew or any of the past languages that I was fluent in, there is still a sense of nostalgia for me, even if I don't speak or understand them anymore."
"Interesting."
"Is that what it's like for you?"
"No, my ability to understand almost doesn't require language and in a way my abilities as an Endless allow me to converse with anyone no matter what language they speak. But I never had to exert effort to actively learn it."
"I see, and yet another proof that I am not a part of the Endless family."
"You're right, you're much more than that." You were about to ask what he meant when you suddenly feel a headache.
No.
It wasn't a headache.
It's from one of your reincarnated children.
The last one who exists in this period.
"Are you okay?" You can hear the concern in his voice as he helps you lie down.
"Wait - I need to find my child to sense what's going on. Normally a bond wouldn't give me this much pain unless one of them dies or something unusual has happened." You take a deep breath and go into your mental space that held the bonds of your reincarnated children. Among the grey colored bonds only three had a colored glow outlining them. Jared's glow was in between yellow and orange and Emira's glow was in between red and violet.
And this little one's glow was in between coral and pink.
This is the one that was crying out in pain.
You reach out and enter the bond. You aren't sure what your child's name in this lifetime is. But you remember that back in the time of the Assyrian empire your child was a son named Pithyou who worked as a scribe in the empire's beaurocracy. Secretly, he felt out of place in his body and would probably be considered as a transwoman in your current times.
From what you can tell from the bond Pithyou got his wish and was now born into a biosex female. Whatever her name is, she's still a child and hasn't even began puberty yet.
The last accessible memory before the traumatic pain had blocked you off from the most recent memory is your child being hypnotized by a man who appears to be a magic user.
"My parents are going to rescue me and hurt you!"
"I'm counting on that you little brat. Not your parents in this life but your mother."
Oh no.
He knows about you.
"But for the meantime while she's not yet here."
"OUCH! NO! AGH!" The pain that caused your headache has appeared. But more than just pain you feel something happening. Your organs are rearranging and it's as if you are melting.
No.
It wasn't you who was feeling that.
It's your child, your poor child who was being used against you simply because of the bond you shared. A bond that she might not even be aware of yet.
You bring yourself back to your senses, this time both Morpheus and Emira was at your side both sharing a look of concern.
"Mom what happened? Is someone attacking you?"
"No - its even worse. A man is hurting your sister, the last child of mine who is currently reincarnated. He's hurting her knowing I would feel it. He's using her to make me go to him. I don't know what he's doing to her but it's so painful."
"Describe the pain, maybe that will help." Morpheus says in his serious but gentle tone.
"It's as if my - or rather her - organs were being re-arranged and her limbs were melting into her body. I believe that's what's causing her pain."
"Send me the man's face through your conscious thoughts." You did and once his eyes open, all you can see is his determination.
"I will find him and help your daughter."
"No, Morpheus you don't have to do that."
"You're right I don't." He makes his way closer to you.
"But I want to. Let me handle this."
"Mom I think we should follow Lord Morpheus on this one. You said it yourself, whomever this man is he's counting on you to rescue my sibling."
"But I can't let you possibly be in danger again. Not after a century in the Burgess manor."
"I promise I'll be careful. I'll make sure to prepare thoroughly before I do anything. You have a life to live as if you are mortal. Whatever this man wants from you is now the concern of the Endless." You sigh at his stubbornness.
"You're not taking no for an answer are you?"
"Not in this case."
"Agh fine, but you will report to me what is going on. If only to ease my concerns."
"Of course."
And with that he leaves.
"See he cares for you."
"He also cared for Calliope when she was in trouble."
"Hmm interesting how you say he only sees you as a friend and yet he didn't hesitate to help."
"Friends do that Emira." You say with a tone that ends the discussion. All you can do now is hope and pray that he remains safe and that your child is not harmed any further.
Author's notes: And now we enter the final arc before Morpheus and Life officially become a couple. Again some things I want to mention:
1.) Loungewear that I was envisioning;
2.) If you're wondering what the song that Emira and Life were dancing to it's this one: WYAT (Where you at) by SB19. Fun fact that nobody asked for: In this case Life and I are reversed. My bias is Stell and my biaswrecker is Ken aka Felip Jhon Suson. I don't know why but when I was writing that part Life was telling me to write Ken as her bias and Stell as the biaswrecker. And yes there is significance to the song since it's all about reconnections;
3.) Source for the Hebrew lyrics of "Deliver us" and the video reference used. If you want to hear me sing the vocal transitions (disclaimer I am not Jewish nor do I speak Hebrew so there is inevitably going to be mispronunciations on my end).
Copyright people don't come after me this is just for fun - my voice is probably too hoarse for it to even be discernable. I am not making any profit, just wanted to share it.

Special Interest Timeline: Retro Games
Tumblr media
I'm on a retro games special interest kick, and in my previous post on said things, I talked about how - in the mid-aughts - I really got into games made in the 1970s and 1980s... In the early 2000s.
And I got my history a little messed up when writing about it, so I shall do... a timeline!
Mostly for my sake!
I'm one of those autistics who tries to keep a whole-ass timeline about my special interests... When I got into it, what got me into it, how long it took me to take the next step and discover more things about it, etc....
My love of retro games stemmed from a childhood of playing simplistic MS-DOS shareware games in the late '90s. Games off of floppy disks, like HUGO'S HOUSE OF HORRORS, COMMANDER KEEN 2, CRYSTAL CAVES, WORD RESCUE, CD-MAN (a PAC-MAN clone), SKI FREE, and more... I also forgot to mention that I had a hand-me-down NES in the '90s as well...
Again, going off of my previous post, I mentioned that it kinda starts in the early 2000s. I want to say approximately 2002/2003?
Tumblr media
Christmas 2002: I get a GameBoy Advance and SUPER MARIO ADVANCE 2. SMA2 contains a really good port of SUPER MARIO WORLD, originally released in 1990, and an updated version of the 1983 arcade title MARIO BROS. I don't know if this necessarily kicks off the special interest, but it definitely plays a big part in it.
Late 2002/Early 2003: This is approximate. A guess. Around this time, I went to my local swimming pool every mid-week, or something like that, with my father. Afterwards, we'd stop for a bite at a nearby diner. They have a MS. PAC-MAN machine in the vestibule. One day, I watched someone doing really really good at the game. I'm reminded of the old DOS games I loved so much. Around this time, I was obsessed with what year a piece of media came out, so upon seeing the "copyright 1980, 1981" on the attract mode of the game, I had learned something new: Arcade games like that dated back to the 1980s.
Throughout 2003: Going to arcades wherever I went (i.e. bowling alleys, restaurants, etc.) and seeing at least one retro arcade game there. A lot of the time, it was one of those MS. PAC-MAN/GALAGA "Class of 1981" cabinets that were pretty new at the time.
Christmas 2003: I'm given two plug-n-play retro games collections... This is where it all *really* takes off...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The one on the left is the Jakks Pacific Namco set, which contains PAC-MAN, BOSCONIAN, RALLY-X, DIG DUG, and GALAXIAN. Pretty solid ports, all things considered. This I got on Christmas Eve, and I remember that night trying out all the games... And I played the living daylights out of this thing after that...
The one on the right was a bootleg, a Frankenstein's monster-like controller system concoction that were sold in malls and on QVC and the like. My grandmother got that one for me, and it contained a cartridge containing 84 various Famicom and NES games. These "Famiclones" were common back then and it was a side-market that only mutated over time. Luckily, this was one of the less egregious ones, and it had an assortment of NES games I couldn't get elsewhere. The hand-me-down NES we had no longer worked, so this was a worth substitute... Take out the cartridge, there's 10 built-in games that are basically Famiclones. Weird thrown-together 8-bit games of origin I'm unaware of at the moment.
Early 2004: Near my dad's place is a warehouse selling arcade machines and cocktail tables. While they didn't allow customers to play the games, they did - somehow - make an exception for me. I visited a few times and loved it, it was like paradise to my 11-year-old self. I'm sure the guy running the place wanted us OUT, haha.
Next... This is going to sound super-nerdy, but upon doing very well in a spelling bee around February/March and winning... A $200 gift card to... Circuit City! Yes, upon a winning that gift card, what do I buy? Retro game collections!
I believe I got NAMCO MUSEUM and MIDWAY ARCADE TREASURES on one of the shopping trips, in addition to the GameBoy version of NAMCO MUSEUM, PAC-MAN COLLECTION, and KONAMI COLLECTOR'S SERIES: ARCADE ADVANCE.
I visit the website System 16 and KLOV (Killer List Of Video Games) quite frequently, too.
Also around this time, I get my hands on an Atari collection for the PC called ATARI ANNIVERSARY EDITION. I also receive a book called THE ULTIMATE HISTORY OF VIDEO GAMES by Steven L. Kent.
Tumblr media
SUPER MARIO ADVANCE 2 is in regular rotation around this time.
Fall-Christmas 2004: For my birthday and Christmas, I get...
ATARI ANTHOLOGY for the XBOX, and another Jakks Pacific Namco collection, this time including MS. PAC-MAN, MAPPY, GALAGA, XEVIOUS, and POLE POSITION. I also get this fantastic coffee table book by Rusel DeMaria and Johnny L. Wilson:
Tumblr media
I'll cap it off here, but this is where it peaks, and I'm all about these kinds of things from here on out.

Tumblr media
On my last visit to Osaka in March, my boyfriend and I wanted to celebrate our time there and it's coming to an end by splurging on a fancy coursed teppanyaki wagyu dinner. We had literally gambled on a random restaurant because it advertised olive milk feed beef. We did not know until after that it is the rarest and most expensive wagyu on the market and only 12 of the olive milk-fed cows raised on a small farm are slaughtered a year and this restaurant was one of very few who served it. It was hard to find the entrance at first, we walked in circles for 20 minutes almost giving up on finding it. When we finally found it after wandering in the rain, we made our way up to the 4th floor of a tall building and found ourselves entering an extremely small and intimate dining space with only two others (locals)  just finishing their meal. We were instantly so happy and excited, expecting a bustling, top-tier, fancy schmancy, tourist kind of place. I’ll save you the long preface and say that we were floored by our 6-course meal, and by the service we received from the Chef and the Sommelier, the only two who run the small restaurant. Before our leaving, I had exchanged information with the Sommelier and we spoke of keeping in touch until our next visit.
Mutsumi and I became fast friends exchanging words and liking each other accomplishments and other posts on social media frequently. My only planned event aside from this study was to visit and have dinner there once again. So last weekend I boarded a 2 hour Shinkansen and made my way to stay overnight in Osaka with the goal to once again meet with my new friend and enjoy a delicious meal. With a tight schedule I requested a reservation at 5pm so I could make the evening train ride back to Tokyo the same day in order to regroup with my study. Mutsumi had informed me that the restaurant actually didn’t open until 6pm, I told her I could push it and that would be acceptable. She then informed me that I was a special guest and the Chef would like to open an hour early for me, and that he had prepared a special course as well. Delighted, I arrived at 5pm for my solo chefs table experience. I was greeted by their smiling faces and I was happy that they were just excited as I was. Mutsumi had shared with me that I was the only ever foreign guest to say they would return who actually had, and that I had coincidently arrived on their restaurants 6th birthday. This made the whole vibe even more exciting and delightful. Before we even got to the business of dinning we shared other updates in each others lives, Mutsumi working double as translator for me and the Chef since he doesn’t speak any English, and although she says hers is bad, she is actually very good. We often joke that her English is much better than my Japanese so she is much farther ahead of me. Bashfully she compliments me on my big brains and academic accomplishments, referring to my studies.
As dinner is served Mutsumi carefully informs me of each ingredient and what part of Japan it derives from. In between my compliments of Oishii desu ne, the three of us continue our friendly conversation. They ask me where I’ve been in Tokyo, what I am learning about, and what my goals are for the future. I share the contexts of my studies and that my goal is to understand Japanese culture, language, identity, and perspective so that I can help make society more equal and better for everyone, here, at home, and elsewhere. They cheer telling me “Yatta, we believe in you.” The chef jokes that he wasn’t any good at school and that is why he became a cook. I tell him over and over that his talents are impeccable and that he deserves much recognition for the artful meals he prepares, truly a hidden gem. Mutsumi shares her dreams of traveling to California, and her vision of what the states are like. She asks me questions about how far away things are, what certain places are like. and what the best places I’ve visited at home are, as well as what I think of my country and how well-off we seem to be.
At this point our conversation became quite serious as I shared honestly with her my feelings and opinions of home and why I am inspired to study what I do and work in the field that I work in. Although it is not the information she expected she tells me that she is happy to know how a “true American honestly thinks” and that she still wants to visit, which makes me glad. I ask her about her experiences in school. She tells me she was not a big fan of studying and was not very good. She really wants to study English and shared with me how frustrating it is to learn in the Japanese school system because everything is decided for you and the English is very scripted and in her opinion unhelpful. I appreciated her honesty as well in sharing her past experiences, and hopes for the future, returning the same respectful candidness I had given her in the answers to her questions. We continued to compare certain social conditions in Japan and America, giving both of us a more enlightened perspective on our home countries.
After I completed my meal I stayed for another hour enjoying our conversation as local customers started to arrive bringing gifts for the restaurant in celebration of it’s birthday. I was sad to ask for my bill and having to leave their company as they compared me to the locals saying I am now just like their Japanese regulars and that I am a very special friend to them and the restaurant, which endearingly warmed my heart. I thanked them for being my friends in Japan and told them that they are very special friends to me as well. I told them I will be returning in September and will stay in contact during my time at home. The chef excitedly tells me he is going to have to work hard to deliver me a new menu next time I come, which made me feel so very appreciated when I appreciate them so much. I left with joy in my heart and a smile on my face as I cried my way to the Densha to make my way back to Tokyo.
Until our next meeting I will be missing their unwavering hospitality and welcoming conversation…and that wagyu, cooked to perfection.
I promise I will practice my Japanese so that Chef doesn’t get left out of one bit of the conversation.

Bi-weekly journals 48% (6 x 8%)
Individual Reflection Assignment 15%
Group Analysis Assignment 25%
Synchronous Online Class Participation and Attendance ---- 12% (2% for each)
Complete each module with participation and attendance in online synchronous lessons. Groups of students in breakout room are free to choose from Jamboard, Google doc or Canva posters to present the results of their group discussion activities during the class. The diverse platforms students choose themselves can also demonstrate how students connect theory to practice (Martin, et al., 2019).
Play a game of Kahoot in the synchronous lesson of the final module, reflecting on what has been learned through game interaction. The use of diverse platforms and software in the online learning environment helps to improve students' learning interest and interactivity. For example, Kahoot helps students consolidate and review knowledge points in games (Eckert, 2021).
Weekly online synchronous courses will have different activities based on different modules, such as social and controversial topics will be introduced into debate games. Introducing gamification elements into teaching methods can also help students stimulate and strengthen learning enthusiasm and interactivity while bringing positive results (Sailer & Homner, 2020).
Bi-weekly journal of six modules ---- 48% (8% for each)
Each module has a different area of study on critical thinking, based on each topic can help to guide and follow up students' learning progress step by step and get regular feedback to complete their own learning goals, which also reflect on students' mastery and application of critical thinking from bi-weekly journals for each module.
Individual Reflection Assignment:
Critical Thinking and Reflection on Online Learning ---- 15%
Select the most engaging one of the six modules, based on personal online learning experience and synchronous course group activities, complete reflection with critical thinking and references to course materials. Students can present what they have learned, remaining problems and future study plans to complete a reflection of about 600 words.
Group Analysis Assignment:
Critical Thinking Analysis of Controversial Issue in the society ---- 25%
Introducing controversial issues into the curriculum can help students develop critical thinking, which through exploration and discussion enables students to master how to face different controversial social issues more fairly and equitably.
Each group chooses their own theme related learning modules, combined with the course content of critical thinking and the analysis of recent real social controversy issues, discuss and reflect from multiple dimensions and aspects.
For example:
Government banning social media platform TikTok
Dior accused of 'culturally appropriating' from China

From Me to You
fred weasley x reader- part 4 of series
summary: being from france yourself, you loved writing letters to those back in your home country. but, what happens if your letters are interjected, and someone begins writing in your pen pal’s place?
warnings: none! (gif is not mine, credit to owner)
part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4
Sans toi, je ne suis rien
Ma Chéri,
These past months that I have been writing to you have been my happiest. Your words make me smile and seeing your name makes my heart sing. I want nothing more than to hold you close. I cannot wait for you to see me as I am.  I hope you love this flower, I find it extremely beautiful just as you are. I will write to you soon.
Bisous, Maison
You picked up the flower that came with your envelope. It was a wood anemone, probably one of your favorites. Its golden pedals shone brightly in the dim light of the Great Hall and the scent reminded you of walks by the black lake.
The black lake? You thought to yourself. Strange how a flower sent to you from France reminded you of your life at Hogwarts, rather than life back in France. Especially considering you could not recall a memory of seeing this flower in your childhood garden back in France. Ignoring your thoughts, you thoughtfully placed the letter and flower adding it to your bag.
The classes for the day came and went quickly, especially considering you had a certain French boy occupying your mind. Bisous, kisses. You got goosebumps thinking about it, thinking about his lips onto yours, they way he loving signed the letter. As the final bell of the day rang out, you and Hermione headed to the library for some studying.
‘Y/n, I’m so happy for you. I mean, you’re practically glowing with joy!’ she said in a hushed excitement as you headed through the bookcases to find an empty table.
‘Tell me about it! Hermione, I seriously don’t think I’ve ever been this happy. Maison is a dream, it’s hard to believe he’s even real; and look at what he got for me!’ you responded holding out the golden flower for her to gaze upon.
‘A wood anemone! Like the ones that grow on the pathway to the black lake, they are very beautiful.’ Hermione said, ‘Sort of strange though, I thought they only grew in the U.K.’
So, you were right! You ignored your sense of confusion, ‘Maybe not. I’m not too great at herbology, perhaps we should ask Neville about it.’ You gigged.
Your world seemed perfect, you were never this happy. Words and phrases danced in your mind, his words and phrases. You never even knew it was this possible to be in love. In your trance of happiness, you spotted Fred.
‘Freddie!’ you shouted, running to him in the hallway, in your giddiness.
‘Monet!’ he shouted back at you, opening his arms for you to jump into. Colliding with him, his bag slipped off his shoulders, and the contents spilled out. You reached down to help him when you noticed the parchment sprawled across the floor. It was your parchment.
The letters you have been sending to France for months, each signed delicately with your name. Every envelope, every stamp and every word was yours, exactly the way it was mailed to Maison. And here they were, in the bag that belonged to Fred Weasley.
Your heart had stopped, breathing gone unsteady; you looked up at Fred with fire in your eyes. His face had gone pale, and his eyes stayed fixed on the floor, like the ground would make his situation better. Like his shoelaces would help give you the answers, in which you were desperate of.
‘Fred, why are my letters in here?’ There was complete silence.
‘I said, why are my letters in here.’ They boy never even looked up to see your gaze.
‘Answer me, Fred!’ You yelled. You breathed heavily, puzzle piece clicking into place. ‘You’ve been the one writing these letters all along haven’t you. That’s why you always offer to mail my post, that’s why you weren’t getting over protective. And how stupid am I not to see it before? Snowdrops only blossom in the snow and France had a warm winter. And not to mention the fact that wood anemone only grows in the U.K. Oh my Merlin, how daft could I be? And you stand here with nothing to say for yourself.’ You let a tear slip. You could not believe this. Of course, the man you had fallen for was Fred Weasley. Out of everyone in the world, you just had to fall deeper in love with him. You stood in a state of shock as tears streamed down your face.
‘I was going to tell you,’ Fred stumbled. ‘I was, I just didn't know how.’
‘Okay, Fred. Even if you found the words to tell me, when would you?’ you hissed. ‘How long was this going to go on for? Months, years? Were you just going to keep leading me on, hiding behind a pen pal? You’ve gone absolutely insane.’
‘It was true. Everything I said in the letters. All of it was true,’ Fred said. You huffed at him, words in which to say to him racing your mind. He looked into your eyes,  ‘I just couldn’t bear to watch you fall in love with another boy that wasn’t me.’
His words were like another blow. The boy that you were so in love with, the boy that you would do anything for just now telling you about the love he has for you. You shook your head in disbelief. Disbelief in everything.
‘Don’t lie to me, Fred.’ You swallowed your tears, turning on your heels walking the other way.
‘Sans toi, je ne suis rien.’
You stopped. It had felt like your heart imploded, turning to face him. ‘What?’
‘Sans toi, je ne suis rien.’
‘Fred, I-‘
‘Nothing was a lie, I promise you. When I realized I loved you I thought it was too late. I know- I know I messed up and I should have just told you, but I don’t know what I would do if you didn’t love me back.’ Fred sighed, pausing for a brief moment to collect his thoughts. ‘That day, in the library, I was learning French. I know how stupid it sounds but-‘
‘No! No, Freddie. That’s not stupid at all. And you’re right you did mess up.’ You let out a giggle, and he smiled. ‘But that doesn’t mean that I don’t love you still. Hell, I’ve been in love with you since the moment I met you. But, why didn't you tell me?’
‘Because I was scared,’ he looked down. ‘Yeah, laugh all you want, but I was scared you didn't feel the same way I did; so, I just pretended to be someone else.’
‘I love you for who you are, Fred, not for who you were trying to be. I fell in love with the person you are, then you made me fall in love with you all over again with your words. There's no denying the way I feel for you, Freddie.’
He took your hands, the hands that had written so many letters, the hands that made you believe in love again time after time, the hands that told the truth. You pulled him into a hug.
‘Je t’adore’ you whispered softly into his ear.
‘Je t'aime de toute mon âme.’ He answered placing a soft kiss on your forehead. And perhaps Fred was right: without him, you are nothing.
San toi, je ne suis rein.
(a/n: thank you guys so much for reading this mini series! i hope you all enjoyed it! xo -mari)

Part 1
Your POV
Another sleepless night, another boring day, another insane amount of coffee. Shuri was successful in removing the trigger words from my mind but that was a week ago. No one has come for me. No more memories have returned.  I just kind of wander around aimlessly throughout the day and then toss and turn in my bed all night.
I make my way down a long glass corridor and observe the sky outside. I stop, cross my arms over my chest and watch a few people sparring in the grass below. My fingers begin absentmindedly fiddling with the dog tags around my neck. I pick them up and read them again. They belong to James. I have warred with myself over this for days but I finally decide to give them back to him.
Speaking of which, he and Sam enter at the other end of the corridor. “Hey, you go on ahead, I’ll catch up with you later,” James mumbles to Sam. Nodding Sam continues on as James stops beside me. Before I can change my mind again, I take the dog tags off and hold them out to him. He tilts his head in confusion, “If I wanted them back, I would’ve asked for them.”
“What- What do you mean? They’re your dog tags. You don’t want them?” I ask.
“I want you to hang on to them for me, Doll,” he says with a grin.
I look back down at the thin pieces of metal between my fingers, “What happened?”
“Do you mean what happened for me to get those or what happened for them to find their way to you?”
    “Both I suppose.”
“Well, I enlisted in 1941. Steve kept trying to enlist too but kept getting denied. That is until some scientist found him and gave him a chance. He ended up taking the super soldier serum. He found out that half my regiment had been taken captive behind enemy lines and set out against the Colonel’s orders on a rescue mission because I hadn’t returned with the half of our men that did. When I was behind enemy lines as a prisoner, Hydra’s scientist, Arnim Zola, did experiments on me and gave me a super soldier serum. After returning to base with everyone who had been taken captive, Steve and I fought alongside the Howling Commandos. We were wiping Hydra bases off the map. On one mission, we were on this train trying to get to Zola. A weapon mishap blew a hole in the side of the train and I fell out and grabbed onto the piece of train that was left hanging. Steve tried to pull me back in but I fell. After that, Zola found me. The serum helped me survive the fall. He took me back to Hydra and that’s when the Winter Soldier was born. As for how my dog tags ended up with you, I don’t really know.”
We stood in silence for a few moments as I stared at the dog tags before everything went black. A soft blue glow lit up the darkness. I looked up to see another movie screen. A film began playing. This time, I was sitting in a cell. I could tell I hadn’t slept in days. A Hydra agent enters the room and hands me a small black box.
“Otkroy eto,” (Open it,) he commanded. I do as commanded and inside the box I find a set of dog tags. “Naden'te ikh i sleduyte za mnoy,” (Put them on and follow me,) he demands. Without a word, I again do as commanded.
The man leads me to a lab. There is a man lying on a surgery table. Present day me recognizes it as James. He has a metal arm now with a red star on it. The man who led me into the room spouts off my trigger words before giving me my commands, “Nikogda ne snimayte eti zhetony. Oni prinadlezhat Zimnemu soldatu, i vy prinadlezhite yemu.” (Never take those dog tags off. They belong to the Winter Soldier and you belong to him.)
I wake up in my room with a worried James sitting nearby. He rushes over when he notices that I have woken up, “Did you remember something else?”
I nod and tell him everything I just learned. As I finish, I stop to think for a second, “I wonder how they knew, or if they even knew.”
    “Knew what, doll?” he inquires.
“That we knew each other,” I answer. This seems to be an unsatisfactory answer so I ask, “What? Is there something I’m missing?”
“It’s nothing. You’ll remember it eventually,” he sighs moving to look out the window.
“No James. It’s obviously important to you. Please tell me,” I say as I get up and rush to his side and grab hold of his arm.
“Doll, I asked you to marry me the day before you went missing,”he says softly, pausing for a moment, “We more than just knew each other. We were engaged, but those bastards took you away from me, from us.”
Speechless, I sit back down in case I black out again, “We were- We were engaged?”
“Yeah,” he says, taking a seat beside me.
I lay my head over on his shoulder, which must’ve been a mistake because as soon as my head touched his shoulder, I blacked out again.
This time when the movie screen turns on, the movie begins with me and James when we were in our early 20s. We are walking down a sidewalk hand in hand. There’s no sound this time. We come to the docks where I remember James had been putting in lots of extra hours lately. Looking out at the ocean and watching the sun glinting off the waves I remember wondering how that day could’ve gotten any better. As James got down on one knee and offered me a simple but beautiful ring, that day became the best day of my life.
The screen goes black and I wake up and rub my eyes, “Wow, two in one day, I’m gonna have one hell of a headache later.” James chuckles beside me, “What did you remember that time?”
“You proposing in 1939,” I pause and my heart sinks, “I don’t know what happened to the ring.”
He wraps his arm around my shoulders, “It’s alright, doll. That’s what the dog tags are for until I can get you another one.”
“But James, you worked so many extra shifts for that ring.”
“It doesn’t matter. All that matters is that I have you back and you remember.”

FF6 Review (Overall)
Tumblr media
I'm going to rate similar to the way I did FF7 Remake, but in only 2 parts, so there will be an overall review then a separate deep dive into the characters.
I played this game using an emulator and I'm not ashamed of it because I used the FF6 Relocalization project which I'll link
Basically nerd talk and explanation of what that means: It's basically a retranslation of the original SNES script using the GBA port as a base and mixing and matching some of the best parts so there you go. They have a way to mod the PC version to have the OG sprite work because sheesh is that thing ugly and they also have a way to resprite and resound the GBA version but this is the easiest and logical solution to get the best of all worlds. There's also "Anthology" which is the PS1 port that adds some CG custscenes which I just watched off of YouTube because it's only a few of the major scenes.
Anyways, yeah, I'm glad I emulated it especially because of the fast forward function. That first chunk would've been rough without it because you're left just waiting for one of your party's commands to be ready but it eases up as the game goes on because you get pretty busy with the combat.
I'm not a fan of turn-based RPGs which was the main reason I haven't touched a 2D FF game until now so this is my first and oh boy, what a first!
Could you just watch a playthrough or read the story then? I wouldn't recommend it. There are certain things that I feel are better experienced.
Gameplay actually wasn't all that gruesome, as I mentioned, it got better thoughout but I know for a fact that I didn't do everything it had to offer because I see other people doing it online and I just had no idea how. That's not to say it's not newcomer friendly though, I mean I beat the game, didn't I? I think it would've just gotten complicated and made me confused if I learned how to do everything in the game anyway.
I found myself liking some of the mechanics and recognizing some of the systems from games as late as today (I'm not sure if this is where they started but I wouldn't be surprised). The random encounters weren't all bad because of the emulator's speed up function but there were definitely times where it felt a little out of hand with the amount I was getting. (I'm looking at you Cave to the Sealed Gate!) So it's all pretty familiar, though there are "Relics" which are kind of like Materia but each member has 2 each where it gives you an ability, f.e. Reflect, every attack hits, extra power, auto cast protect, heal with every step, etc.
Tumblr media
One of the drawbacks of using BSNES though was that there was no toggle for a L or R shoulder button, just turbo and while that's not a big problem, that is the button to Flee a battle, so I just never fled. There is an item that lets you escape any dungeon or battle but I didn't really use it, same with the permanent item that Mog has in the cave (pretty late in the game). I'd rather there be a repel than the warp stone, but I figured that if I just fought whenever the opp arrived then I wouldn't have to grind, which is another thing I hate about RPGs! Luckily, I didn't really feel the need to grind other than for the ending.
Difficulty wasn't really a grind but make sure once you get to the floating island, that you know what you're doing because that level was annoying and I felt a very stong spike in difficulty as soon as I landed on it. Another thing is that sometimes it'd glitch and an enemy would have infinite health so I'd just sit there on fast forward, watching and watching then finally use Libra and no damage was made, might be an emulator thing, might be a game thing and although rare, it still happened.
Tumblr media
There are these sections called scenarios where the game branches off into multiple different paths and you can choose which order to follow the specific sets of characters. I really like that aspect and makes it seem less linear and interactive because it's letting you choose how to tell the story. I have a thing for games that let me interact with it (That opera scene is pretty interactive too).
For a 2D sprite game, it has quite a personality with its cutscenes. They can be very cinematic and defintely makes the characters just that more engaging with some of their mannerisms.
Ok, I get it now. The music is bomb. If anything, that would be worth doing a remake for, to get orchestral and updated versions of some of the themes. (I'd probably cry at that opera scene) But Celes' theme is probably my favorite. The PC port has pretty good remixes for the most part though.
Could this use a remake? It's a trivial matter because I think a good majority of fans want it to be remade and I understand why but at the same time I understand the other side of the argument as well. This was the last 2D FF game and that's special, in a way, the story kind of reflects that. And I think with all the personality comes a bit of caution because you might see something in these characters or scenes that may be misinterpreted or done differently in a remake, similar to how you read a book and just imagine how it's playing out. I think it lays enough ground so that you don't "have to interpret" like with most NES games (how the Super Mario Movie was born) from an outsider's point of view, it may first seem that way though. (myself included (yes, I know this was SNES era. Shut up!))
Tumblr media
What would I want out of a remake? I would want the airship to return and be able to move around freely but keep the towns pretty faithful (which makes for more linear opportunities). I could see Edgar's tools being used similar to Barrett's but we have "First Soldier" now which is a 3PS Battle Royale, why not have his tools play similar to that? Then actually give him story opportunities to pick up his tools rather than "just because you bought them" It would be a nice natural progression. I would suggest the same with Sabin and Cyan, have them learn their Blitz and Bushido moves by being taught by Duncan, you do learn one move from Duncan in the vanilla game but I'd see it as more opportunity to build your characters and make it feel rewarded. So, in those aspects, I would like to see FF6 remade or improved but as for everything else, they should keep it a lot similar to the original than FF7R did. I think that's where a lot of the criticism with FF7R came from (as well as what I mentioned in the previous paragraph) While I'd prefer a gameplay overhaul similar to what they did with R, I'd rather keep the essence. There aren't sequels or spinoffs or anything of this game so this is all it has (unless you count the ports but that's minimal).
In the CHARACTERS section, I compliment the side-quest system but I would like there to be a better indication as to "what" you're doing, rather than just looking up the next steps or be left to travel around until the goal is clear. They have the quest completion menu as well as waypoints in FF7R, I could see that being put to good use in a game like this. It would also be cool to actually "visibly" wear the gear that you equip to your character but I understand why that isn't utilized in most of the games (probably makes for better character models) especially considering most of these characters' costumes could use an update. You didn't get to use the Magitek suits nearly as much as I thought you would from the marketing and even the dang cover and logo, so a remake could improve on that as well. Another small complaint is that it doesn't tell you what the items do WHILE you're in battle, only when you're in the menu, sorting them and while some are staples like Phoenix Down, I still don't remember what the heck a 'Gold Needle' does.
Overall I'd probably rate the FF games that I've played (but maybe not finished all of) as such: FF7 > FF13 > FF6 > CRISIS CORE > FF15 > FF12 but I think 6 and 13 are kind of interchangeable because if you said one over the other, I wouldn't really argue.

i'll be listening to evermore for evermore (my album review)
evermore is taylor swift's ninth studio album, and it was a total surprise. she had a marvelous time dropping two albums this year, and they were incredible. evermore is so special and amazing, so let's get into it.
Tumblr media
1. willow
this is one of taylor's best album openers. i love the lyrics, the way she sounds, and of course the gorgeous music video; it's one of her best videos ever. it's so soothing to me, and it was a great way to start the album.
2. champagne problems
wow. i. love. this. song.
"champagne problems" is definitely in my top taylor songs of all time. the lyrics are heartbreaking and magical in the way only taylor knows how to do. listening to it will crush you, but you'll have a good time during it. i can listen to the bridge on repeat (and i do).
i love that she can still write songs about heartbreak even when she's in a relationship. also, thanks for teaching me some new words, taylor. she's always expanding my vocabulary, and i love her for it.
it's my #1 favorite on the album, so that should say everything.
Tumblr media
3. gold rush
wow, what a beautiful song. the intro and the outro is one of my favorite parts because it honestly sounds so magical. it's so catchy and fun to sing, and it has some really cool lyrics.
4. 'tis the damn season
i didn't really like this song at first, but over time i've learned to really enjoy it. it has a certain je ne sais quoi that calms me. the bridge is definitely my favorite part.
5. tolerate it
i. love. this. song.
seriously, it's also on my list of top taylor songs of all time. the lyrics are so heartbreaking and sad, but it's what makes the song so impactful. she always chooses the most emotional song as the fifth track, so i was definitely expecting a sad song, but "tolerate it" exceeded my expectations. also, this song is basically "dear john" if taylor had stayed, and when i think about that, it makes it even sadder.
Tumblr media
6. no body, no crime (ft. HAIM)
this is the bop we've all been waiting for; what a fun song! the outro is amazing, and the way she sings sounds so menacing. although it adds to the vibe of the song, i could do without the police sirens in the beginning because it freaks me out whenever i hear it.
7. happiness
so, i know some people don't like this song because it's long and slow, but those are always my favorite songs, so i love it. it's so calming and relaxing, so i enjoy it.
8. dorothea
this is another song i didn't like for the longest time, but now i enjoy it. i think it's a cute song, but it's probably still my least favorite. i personally don't listen to it very often, but maybe if i spend more time with it it'll grow on me more?... we'll see
the fan theories surrounding this song that claim it's about selena gomez makes me like it more because i just think that's so cute.
9. coney island (ft. the national)
i. love. this. song.
i think "coney island" is one of the more underrated songs on this album, but it's one of my favorites. i've read people's theories that this song basically references a lot of her more well known relationships, and that fact kind of makes me like it more. also, this is one of my favorite taylor collabs because her and matt berninger's voice sounds amazing together. i love her soft voice in comparison to his really deep voice. the bridge is my favorite part. duh
10. ivy
i didn't like "ivy" that much at first, but i really love it now. i have such a fun time listening to it, especially the bridge. i don't condone infidelity, but this song makes me forget my morals.
11. cowboy like me
once again, i love this song so much. it's very calming and soothing; it's a soft bop. it's so fun to sing along to. i really don't know what else to say other than i love it. the background vocals really adds something special to the song - thank you marcus mumford.
12. long story short
"long story short" is such a cute song! i love it and the message behind the song so much.
13. marjorie
i. love. this. song.
once you get to the bridge, it's all uphill from there. but, that's when it also gets the most sad. it's so beautiful and well written. it gets me in my feels every time.
Tumblr media
14. closure
the beginning of this song always confuses me lol.
it's definitely a grower, and it's not my favorite on the album, but it's cute.
15. evermore (ft. bon iver)
this is such a well written song. she's really found her person when it comes to collaborating because her and bon iver sound amazing together. "evermore" is so calming and i like that this is the title track for the album. it's a great way to end it. i think "exile" is my favorite taylor x bon iver song, but "evermore" is great, especially with the piano. also, i love that the song ends with the lyrics, "this pain wouldn't be for evermore." perfection
16. right where you left me
this is such a fantastic song, and i listen to it (and the other bonus track) frequently. it's written so well, and it has such amazing lyrics.
17. it's time to go
i love this song as well, and tbh i wish she had replaced "dorothea" and "closure" with the bonus tracks instead lol. the post-chorus' lyrics are so impactful. taylor popped off on these bonus tracks.
overall thoughts:
this album is so special and well done. she really gave us her best work this year, and i'm so grateful. i knew she'd deliver, and i was right. taylor never lets me down. i listen to it basically daily, and i still haven't gotten tired of it. grammy's better not snub it for album of the year.
my rating: 9/10
the weakest songs: dorothea and closure... sorry <3
the strongest songs: champagne problems, tolerate it, coney island, cowboy like me, marjorie, evermore, right where you left me, and it's time to go.

MGA5 CALLBACK PERFORMANCE Singing Let Me Love You Mashup by Kiana Lede ; ( 0:10 - 2:05 )
Honestly, if anybody ever told Seungmin he’d make it for the MGAs callback, he would’ve just laughed it off and acted like it was nothing. Of course, that was merely joking around. The fact that it became a reality was a little disconcerting. He received the notification of the next step via e-mail and he just couldn’t believe his eyes.
He had so many people to tell, but he didn’t want to jinx anything whatsoever so he kept it to himself. In this short time frame, Seungmin mentally prepared and practiced with his whole heart on the line. With the address given to them for the recording, Seungmin traveled to the location. Since Seungmin and Changbin are roommates, they decided to go together.
“Binnie… this is so crazy. I can’t believe we’re really doing this. Like actually doing the MGAs. It’s insane.” He held onto his roommate’s hand as he found their way to the studio where the recording would take place.
Immediately upon arrival, Seungmin ran into Jeongin and excitedly dragged him over to everyone else including Jisung and Chan which they sat amongst each other. “This is so nerve-wracking, Innie… I hope we do well today.” He gripped the younger’s hand and squeezed for a little bit of reassurance -- more for himself than anything.
Seungmin quietly watches as other contestants pile into the studio and find themselves a seat among the hundred of chairs available. He notices a presence next to him sit down but doesn’t make much of it. It’s not until the voice speaks up. “Man, I’m nervous, how about you?”
Seungmin doesn’t even think twice before an automatic reply leaves his mouth. “Ugh, honestly, same.” He pauses for another second before he turns his head and that’s when it hits him like a goddamn train by letting out an audible gasp. His brother with the widest shit-eating grin on his face looking at him. Staring at him. Sitting right next to him. His mouth hangs slightly open and Seungmin is just absolutely shocked that his eyes widen considerably.
“Why are you here? Does mom know you’re doing this?” He starts blinking rapidly because he’s just so confused. Why was his brother here of all places? At auditions for the MGAs? It’s shaking him a lot just to see the older.
Seungmin blinks and looks to the other side of Jooyoung and finds his cousin, Hyojin, sitting near them too. Wow, it’s like a family reunion. “H-hyojin hyung? You’re auditioning for the MGAs too?” Shaking his head, he turns back to Jooyoung.
“Hyung… since when did you even like to perform? Do you sing or something?” Seungmin’s expression of confusion and shock slowly leaves his face as it turns colder. “Why didn’t you tell me you were auditioning? Nevermind, it’s not like you tell me anything anyways.”
Seungmin bites out that last harsh statement before turning away. The awkward silence between them is almost unbearable and he feels bad so he sighs before uttering one last thing to Jooyoung. “Good luck…”
For the rest of the waiting time, Seungmin faces towards Jeongin and Jisung and smiles as much as he can in hopes they don’t ask him anything. It’s hard pretending but he can’t let his brother being here affect him and his performance.
Finally, after all the contestants are settled and nestled into their respective seats, they reveal the judges who turn out to be the 5 CEOs of the big companies out right now. Seungmin stared in awe and clapped on cue, of course. He’s not surprised to see them considering they were here last season, but it’s nice. Although, since they’re the judges for this, it makes the performances seem scarier than normal. Something about this either being his last performance on stage or the beginning really unsettled Seungmin’s stomach. Naturally, he tries to will the nervous feelings down but he can’t really help it.
After the hundred of them give their performances, the CEOs will convene together to discuss who moves on and who doesn’t. Seungmin’s afraid of not making it. He’s afraid that his friends will get to hop to the next level and he’ll be left behind. This was different from last year when he managed to score an audience pass to watch some performances for MGA4. He dreamt about standing on stage and now that it’s so close and within reach, he’ll do whatever it takes to make it.
Seungmin exhales deeply and unclenches the fists that rested on his lap. He couldn’t let this get to him. Not now of all days. He had to relax or else his downfall will come sooner than later. One by one, contestants will be called to stand on stage and perform in front of everyone. Thankfully, he’s not called first and he watches with rapt attention at each contestant’s performance. Some are really eye-catching for sure and some he was okay with. There wasn’t anybody truly bad. Not like he could judge anyways. His performance might not be the best either.
Up next is a girl that catches Seungmin’s immediate attention. She’s pretty and looks mean -- like she could step on you and you would end up apologizing for getting in her way. Da-dum, da-dum. Seungmin flushes and clears his throat to will away the brush. Goddamn, this wasn’t some dating show for goodness sake. He’s so enarmored already and watching her performance that Seungmin notices when she turns to face the other contestants. He swears she winked at him. Him of all people. Or at least in his general direction. Either way, Seungmin flushed again and tried to watch the rest of it without embarrassing himself.
A couple more people went and it finally became Seungmin’s turn. With a smile towards his friends, his feet brought him on stage before the judges or the CEOs rather. Being requested to introduce himself, Seungmin smiled politely as his eyes crinkled with mirth. Bowing towards them, he stood back up straight and beamed.
“Hello and what’s up! I’m 18 year old Kim Seungmin from Seoul.” He points to his red hair and laughs. “Just like my red hair, I hope to show you all my firery passion on this very stage.”
He was ready to get into position until he heard some cheering and hooting from the contestant section and he knows Jooyoung’s voice more than anything and he flushed only slightly before trying to ignore it and focus on his performance.
With a nod of his head and the microphone in hand, he got into position. He quickly looked towards the direction of his friends briefly and wished they could hold his hand or something. He even glanced over at his brother, Jooyoung, and was surprised to see the older with the utmost attention on him. It made him feel shy but maybe just a tad braver. He wanted to show Jooyoung what he was capable of and what he had missed out on for the years he was gone.
Taking a deep breath again, Seungmin let the music filter in before lifting up the microphone to his lips and started singing.
I used to believe We were burnin' on the edge of somethin' beautiful Somethin' beautiful Sellin' a dream Smoke and mirrors keep us waiting on a miracle On a miracle Say, go through the darkest of days Heaven's a heartbreak away Never let me down, never let me down
It’s an English song because Seungmin feels very comfortable doing a cover like that. It’s actually a mashup of Justin Bieber’s Let Me Love you, Mario’s Let Me Love You and Ne-Yo’s Let Me Love You. Overall, it’s a slower mashup rendition of the three faster paced songs. But Seungmin likes to think that it matches quite nicely with a slower tempo. He’s not here to play any games.
Don't you give up, nah-nah-nah I won't give up, nah-nah-nah Let me love you Let me
Seungmin doesn’t move around much on stage. His performance wasn’t meant to be that flashy or showy. He wanted to showcase his vocals off more than anything.
Should let me love you Let me be the one to Give you everything you want and need The good love and protection Make me your selection Show you the way love's supposed to be
One hand on the mic and the other hand resting where his heart is and singing with his whole damn chest. Seungmin needed to bare everything out. In front of himself, his brother, his friends, the CEOs. He didn’t want to be that same shy boy who was terrified of standing on stage. He was different now. He knew he had what it took to be an MGA winner. He just had to make it.
Girl let me love you And I will love you Until you learn to love yourself Girl let me love you I know you are trouble Don't be afraid, girl let me help
Seungmin locked eyes with each and every CEO glancing at them briefly before looking elsewhere. Lifting his hand off his chest, he brought it up so he was holding the microphone with both hands.
Much as you blame yourself, you can't be blamed for the way that you feel
Surprisingly enough, Seungmin’s voice is a lot more melodic and honey-like than he originally lets on. He looks like a handsome and dandy kind of boy but doesn’t seem like he offers much. But when he sings, it’s a different side of him that people ought to know and hear. He wants to let his voice be heard as much as possible.
Girl let me love you And I will love you Until you learn to love yourself Don't you give up, nah-nah-nah I won't give up, nah-nah-nah Let me love you
The end of the song slowed down once again but he sang in such a gently sweet voice that matched with the aesthetic of the song. Maybe his voice wasn’t as good as other people’s choices. It was slower and you had to really be able to command the attention of everyone in the room. He wanted that more than anything. When he sang the last line, Seungmin slowly let down the mic from his lips and exhaled out in relief that that part was over. It all rest in the CEOs hands now.
Quickly bowing profusely at the CEOs and thanking them for listening and watching his performance, Seungmin managed his way back to his seat. He grabbed onto Jisung’s hand first and squeezed tight before making it back to his seat. He shut his eyes closed and immediately his hand found Jeongin’s to hold in the meantime. It was certainly an experience and he couldn’t help it how his hands were shaking considerably now. He’s thankful to have stayed strong during his performance but now he could maybe breathe just a little more and get the jitters out of him.

Little Medusa (juego Homebrew para NES)
Little Medusa is a game 100% hombrew for NES, based in the gameplay of the classics Kickle Cubicle (Irem 1988), developed by MegaCats Studios where James Deighan (CEO of MegaCat Studios) hired me for create the first assets for be used for prototype game version in 2016. I only work with MegaCat Studios in early development of Little Medusa, but I`ve learned a lot of how NES hardware work!
A Homebrew game:
It are software indie made for development of consoles of past generations, such as the Atari 2600, Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, /Mega Drive, SuperNES, etc. Little Medusa was developed specifically for the NES and programmed in 6502 (assembler language).
My work in the beginning of the development was in the creation of the first sprites, mockups, concept art and the first proposal art for the cartridge label.
Tumblr media
“Proposal of the game logo”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Concept Art of characters and Story Board for the intro and ending I made how first idea”.
Tumblr media
“Illustration for the initial mock-up of the packagine”.
Challenges and limitations to create sprite for the NES:
I was part of the beginning of the development of the game for its first version, when I was asked to create the sprite of the game, the technical team gave me certain specifications for the creation of the art, since the software was programmed in assembler language.
The NES has a palette of 54 colors, but as the images were processed by TV with CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) screens, they had to be YIQ colors (color space in NTSC screens).
Tumblr media
“The same set could vary its colors depending on the TV screen of a CRT.”
So I couldn't use a palette that emulates RGB colors, but I was able to find a Color Swatch, created by Jonathan Lavinge (Co-founder of Tribute Games), which uses YIQ colors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Mockup I`ve worked in Photoshop used YIQ colors of Jonathan Lavinge”
Limitations on the use of colors and sizes in Sprite:
When creating sprite, we must consider that the NES processes a limit of 3 colors per sprite, including transparency (which is black) and the sprite, which must have a size close to the power of 2, (such as 16 px, 24px, 32 px, etc), to be organized in a bank of images of 8 x 8 px.
This is necessary, because the console at the time of displaying the images while playing, is assembling the objects in a position X of the screen, in order to optimize the loading time of the graphics, taking into account that the game is stored in the memory of the cartridge, so each image is processed and calculated by the console.
On screen the console can process 64 sprite (taking into account characters, props and tiles), but if it exceeds that amount, usually appears the flickering effect, which the console to optimize memory makes disappear certain sprite of 8 px of characters or props.
Initially I made Artemiza in a size of 16 x 24 px for all its animations, while the Tiles, Enemies and Objects for the background, I designed them in a size of 16 x 16 px (with exceptions).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also designed the first intro of the game, game over and the ending, as proposals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“The first version of the game directly in a NES I saw in Youtube channel”.
Making of Little Medusa:
The game had a game development of 3 years (is posible, that the team worked in anothers game projects at the same times for NES and ports for Sega Genesis and for Steam), the game was released in 2018.
In  Mega Cat Studios they has a facinate blog, where the team show the development game process where they explain how the hardware use the sprites, I suggest read this here!
Tumblr media
Now the game is available and you can buy it on MegaCat Studio website or try the demo (which can be downloaded and played on a NES emulator). MegaCat Studios give me a Little Medusa cartridge of Little Medusa, I thank a lot to James Deighan for the opportunity!
