Help an Enby Access Life Saving Surgery
I've been made aware that there are surgeons who have no BMI limit in other countries (mostly the US, a couple in Canada). I'm applying for a passport and making a go of this because im tired of sitting and waiting and trying but not making progress. Please share and/or donate if you can.
~~~~~~
Hello, my name is Nero (yes, like the Roman emperor), and I'm fundraising to access gender-affirming surgery.
I've been attempting to access gender-affirming care for 6 years, and although I'm now seeing a gender clinic (which has allowed me to start HRT), I'm facing a big barrier to accessing surgery; my weight. The way I've dealt with my gender dysphoria and the distress it creates is to eat - it brings me comfort. Sadly this means that my current BMI is too high for UK surgeons to say yes to operating on me. Most surgeons here have a BMI limit of 30, and some limit to 40. My BMI is 47. I am being supported to lose weight (dieting, exercising daily, pills, etc) and I have already lost over a stone (yay!). However losing weight is going much slower than I thought it would, and that has only served to increase my dysphoria, taken away my comfort in food, and increased my suicidal ideation. My family fully believes that I will end up taking my own life if I can't access this much-needed, life-saving surgery within the next 2 years. I'm not sure I can wait another whole year but I'm fighting hard.
With this fundraiser, I'm hoping to travel abroad to where there are surgeons who have no BMI limit and who can and will give me what I so desperately need. My dysphoria is robbing me of a life I should be having at 24 years old. I should have a job. I should have friends. I should be out socialising and having fun. Instead, I sit at home and spend all my time trying my best not to let my dysphoria convince me that it's all hopeless.
If you could spare £1, £5, or even just 10p, that would make a world of difference to me and my family.
I Watched the First Episode of Every New Spring 2021 Anime Airing on Crunchyroll
Hey, are you like me, and feeling like you're not getting the most out of your Crunchyroll subscription? Sure, there's stuff on there that you know you like. But whenever I look at the big long list of simulcasting shows, my eyes glaze over and I don't even know where to begin.
I wanted to change my habits and see if there were any shining gems that I should be watching. So, as per the title, I watched the first episode of every new Spring 2021 anime on Crunchyroll. And guess what? There’s a lot of crap! But indeed, there’s some stuff that’s worth your time.
Some clarification: I've only watched shows that began their first season in April 2021.
Backflip!!
The Lowdown
As Futaba Shotaro comes to the end of middle school, his interest in baseball has begun to wane. Soon he notices the Ao High Boys Gymnastic Club and becomes enthralled, especially after seeing them perform. Once he learns they're down two members, he chooses to sign up and pursue the art of gymnastics. The club is also joined by Misato Ryoya, a star solo gymnast looking to expand his technique through teamwork.
Our Thoughts
Pretty formulaic shoujo sports anime: you've got your himbo, your thug, your ladies' man, your stoic guy, with Shotaro rounding out the cast as the shy and awkward audience surrogate. It looks wholesome enough, and the choreographed routines employ CG in a way that's quite convincing without being hideous.
Who It's For
Fans of  FREE, or Yuri!!! on Ice, or any similar shows about cute boys who succeed at athletic feats.
Burning Kabaddi
Show Link
The Lowdown
Legendary high school soccer star Yoigoshi Tatsuya has given up on sports! That is, until he's blackmailed to join the high school kabaddi team, under threat of his online persona being leaked to the entire school. Although Tatsuya initially writes kabaddi off as stupid, the unexpected happens as he begins to have fun.
Our Thoughts
Kabaddi is kinda like competitive tag, or dodgeball but with your body instead of a ball. Burning Kabaddi is basically the shounen alternative to Backflip!! above, replete with nosebleeds, pratfalls, and dudes punching each other. The main cast don't seem to like each other very much; that probably changes as the show goes on but at first blush it's a dynamic I always find annoying.
Who it's For
Fans of Haikyuu!!? Maybe?
CARDFIGHT!! VANGUARD overDress
Show Link
The Lowdown
The newest series based on Bushiroad's collectible card game, featuring character designs by the beloved collective CLAMP. Petit middle schooler Yu-Yu just doesn't know how to say no. As his older students dress him in drag to use as live makeup practice, he suffers a panic attack and flees into the streets. After being accosted by a pickup artist, he's befriended by Megumi, who invites him to witness a Cardfight match at the local abandoned amusement park. However, Yu-yu is too shy to tell Megumi he's actually a boy…
Our Thoughts
What an unexpectedly weird concept for a show about a card game. Our hero spends the whole episode in drag, whimpering and simpering at the sight of any conflict. Then they show off the latest series of cards, which all seem to be giant buff knights with names like "Bad Steve" and "Violent Bruce". Your guess is as good as mine.
Who it's For
Cardfight!! lovers, Japanese gender studies majors, or the most desperate fujoshi.
Cestvs: The Roman Fighter
Show Link
The Lowdown
The year is 54AD, and Nero has taken the throne as the youngest emperor of Rome. At the bottom of the population, Cestvs is a young slave training to be a colosseum boxer. Reluctant, his only choice is to fight or die.
Our Thoughts
Seeing Nero depicted as a gentle little twink is pretty funny. It's also pretty funny that the central character is named after a Roman boxing glove. The animation style transitions to some very uncanny CG when a major fight takes place, and I didn't like that one bit! This seems like a pretty average tournament anime but with a historical setting. It's currently unknown if any of these dudes are fucking each other. I'm gonna say probably.
Who It's For
The venn-diagram of Greco-Roman history buffs and lovers of tournament series?
Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro!
Show Link
The Lowdown:
Hachioji Naoto is a nerdy, introverted student who spends his time studying and avoiding socialising. When pages from the fantasy manga he's drawing fall out of his bookbag, they catch the attention of a younger student named Nagatoro Hayase. Nagatoro begins to tease Naoto for his otaku interests and awkward demeanour, peppered with some suggestive flirting.
Our Thoughts:
What would you do if a younger girl flirted with you? Would you cry? Piss your pants maybe? Maybe shit and cum? Don't Toy With Me… attempts to barely conceal its BDSM fantasy with its comedic elements, but it's incredibly apparent as Nagatoro always wipes away Naoto's tears as a sort of aftercare. It's like a lighter, comedic version of Aku no Hana, but lacking any of the ponderings or danger that made that work so special.
Who It's For:
People who search Pornhub for "bratty sister femdom".
The Lowdown
The Republic of San Magnolia and the Giad Empire, have been at war for nearly a decade. Using advanced military technology, the frontlines are fought by giant mecha drones called Juggernauts, controlled remotely by Handlers. Major Vladilena Mirizé is one of the military's most talented Handlers in the 1st District, and one who is constantly teased by her peers for the humanity and empathy she shows her squadron. The government line is that drone warfare has kept casualties to zero, but unbeknownst to the public these "drones'' are piloted by 86ers—the lowest class of citizens, forced to live in military internment camps in San Magnolia's 86th District.
Our Thoughts
This is incredibly my kind of thing. We've got a dual narrative being set up here: Vladilena as the kind, reluctant officer of a fascist regime, and the Bad Company-esque antics of her new ragtag squad, Spearhead. The first episode is split pretty evenly between the two, with each story converging at the end as Vladilena "meets" Spearhead for the first time through her comms station. It's an explosive and enticing first episode, and I can't wait to watch more of it.
Who It's For
Fans of Fullmetal Alchemist, Psycho-Pass, Gundam, or any number of anti-imperialist war stories.
Fairy Ranmaru
The Lowdown
In a quiet corner of the city sits Bar F, a modest drinking establishment staffed entirely by five hot young men. Unbeknownst to the general population, these men are a crack team of fairies sent to the human world to gather the latent energy of "attachment". They do this by solving the problems of young women, taking their hearts in the process.
Our Thoughts
Hubba hubba, a little something for the ladies! It's Weiẞ Kreuz with a bar instead of a flower shop, fairies instead of assassins, and some pretty revealing outfits. There's definitely a little Persona 5 inspiration here too, from the punctuating phrase "Take your Heart!" to many of the visual cues. Make of that what you will.
Who It's For
Fans of Weiẞ Kreuz, slash fic authors.
Onda Nozomi was once the star player of her middle school football team. Completely unmatched, she no longer plays as there's no opponent she deems to be on her level. Meanwhile Suou Sumire far outpaces her teammates, causing her frustration. By a twist of fate, these two girls find themselves joining the scrappy Warabi Seinan High School FC as they begin to learn the value of teamwork and friendship.
Our Thoughts
I don't know sports. And I really don't know football. I had to look up what the title meant, and now I barely know who Dettmar Cramer is. I'm really not the best person to judge this, but it seems like a pretty good female-driven sports anime.
Who It's For
Fans of Ace o Nerae! or other sports manga/anime about those ever burning bonds between young teammates.
Gloomy, the Naughty Grizzly
Show Link
The Lowdown:
Pitty lives with his pet Gloomy, a massive pink bear. Can a boy and a bear truly get along?
Our Thoughts:
This is a series of minute-long gag episodes in which Gloomy mauls Pitty and blood squirts everywhere. It's definitely meant to be a morbid parody of Sanrio or San-X; it might be a Rilakkuma parody in particular? Gloomy is the kind of thing you might laugh at if it came on in between shows, but it's pretty slight to go through the trouble of putting on.
Who It's For:
Gag anime fans with one minute to spare.
After a night of drinking in Tokyo, slovenly salaryman Yoshida encounters a teenage runaway sitting under a lamppost. She offers to sleep with him in return for letting her spend the night in his apartment. Yoshida refuses her offer but allows her to stay. The next morning the girl, Sayu, reveals she's travelled all the way from Hokkaido, sleeping with random men in return for lodging and money. Feeling responsible for her safety, Yoshida agrees for Sayu to stay indefinitely in return for handling household chores.
Our Thoughts
This is kind of the inverse of Koikimo (see below), but without a scumbag character and from a male perspective. It's not nearly as nauseating as that show, but it's still a fantasy about living with a busty teenage girl.
I've Been Killing Slimes For 300 Years And Maxed Out My Level
Show Link
The Lowdown:
Office lady Aizawa Azusa dies of overwork in her early 20s, and finds herself standing before a lecherous goddess. Allowed a wish as compensation for her untimely demise, Azusa wishes for an endless life of leisure. The goddess reincarnates her as a 17-year-old immortal witch in an RPG-coded fantasy world. Thrilled, Azusa lazes about, brewing potions for her neighbouring villagers, and kills a small amount of slimes each day to supplement her income. After doing this every day for 300 years, she inadvertently finds herself at Level 99. Her peaceful life is soon upended as adventurers and dragons come from miles around to challenge the legendary witch.
Our Thoughts:
I'm not really an isekai fan, and that goes double for series which aren't set in an RPG, yet use RPG mechanics. Levelling up, grinding stats, min-maxing, as if it's a part of the fabric of the setting. I don't get it. I like watching numbers go up as much as the next dork, but I don't need to watch numbers go up in absolutely every piece of media I consume. Just play a fucking video game, Jesus Christ almighty.
I thought this might be setting up a fun series in which a layabout is reluctantly called upon to undertake a dangerous quest, but I don't think that's what's going on at all. When the red dragon Laika wrecks Azusa's house, she transforms into a cute young girl and the two begin living together, teaching each other the pros and cons of hard work and slothfulness respectively. The trajectory of the series might be as laid back as its protagonist in the end, which, ultimately, would be fitting.
Who It's For:
Isekai fans, slice-of-life fans. The twain have met!
In alternative history Japan the Meiji Period continued well into the 1930s, and the ongoing Tokugawa Shogunate has brought technological prosperity to the nation through a magical energy source called the Dragon's Vein. Sawa Yukimura runs a bookshop where she lives with her little sister by day, but by night she's an assassin for Nue, the shogunate's secret police. As the terrorist group Kuchinawa deploys transforming beasts in an attempt to topple the shogunate, Nue springs into action with their own abilities.
Our Thoughts
There are a lot of concepts competing here, and a few too many flashy transformation sequences for my taste, but I'm really into it! Nue are made up of sex workers and street musicians, often overlooked and therefore easily able to blend in. There's a supernatural Standalone Complex vibe to how the team operates, and they're almost assuredly on the wrong side. Worth a shot!
When it turns out Ichika is friends with Ryo's younger sister Riou, he decides she's his soulmate, and begins to pursue her no matter how many times she refuses him. Comedy ensues!
Our Thoughts
Yeah, OK groomer.
Alright look, Korikimo is written by a woman and told from Ichika's perspective, so this is obviously meant to be a lighthearted "older man" shoujou romance. As an older man, all I saw were the adventures of a paedophile and the teenager he's stalking. Fuck off.
Who it's For
There's probably other stuff like this, right? If you like that, here you go.
After the death of her mother, Himeno and her father relocate from bustling Tokyo to quiet Tajimi City in Gifu Prefecture. The former salaryman opens a quiet cafe using the remarkable mugs made by his late wife, while Himeno follows in her mother's footsteps and joins the school pottery club. Although her first project ends in disaster, Himeno makes fast friends with the eccentric pottery enthusiasts who make up the club.
Our Thoughts
It's no Eizouken, but I guess it's probably not meant to be. I'm not a big iyashikei genre fan, but if that's your thing, you might enjoy the wholesome non-adventures of three girls trying to make a mug. It's worth noting these episodes are only about 12 minutes long, with the remaining runtime segmented into live action episodes where the voice actresses tour Tajimi and unconvincingly pretend to be interested in Gifu's famous mino-yaki pottery. I think this must be a tie-in with a local tourist board.
SD Gundam World Heroes
The Lowdown
The newest instalment of the SD Gundam media-mix franchise. In a world populated by super deform mecha, a burning meteor lands in the middle of Captain City. From it launches a terrible mechanized beast: Naughty Lion. When the police are powerless to stop it, a crack team led by Zhuge Liang Gundam and Liu Bei Gundam sorties to bring Naughty Lion to justice. When the beast stops rampaging, it transforms into Sun Wukong Gundam, a youthful amnesiac mecha horrified at the destruction he wrought. The Three Kingdoms Gundams welcome Sun Wukong into the fold to make sense of this mysterious event.
Our Thoughts
I'm an 80s kid, I know a 30-minute toy commercial when I see one.
No, seriously though, I'm aware of SD Gundam's merchandising—they're cute designs, and I even used to have a bunch of the gum rubber mini figurines. I've played the SD Great War Super Famicom games, they're fun! This is a vehicle to get kids hyped up about the latest toys, which are...based on  a hodgepodge of Journey to the West and Romance of the Three Kingdoms this year? There's even a little SD Guan Yu Gundam with a big long beard!
I kinda wanted to like the idea of a bearded robot, but the mechas are super busy and overdesigned. I guess there's only so much you can do to make your next series of toys bigger and better, so these guys are all decked out in gold accents, capes, horns, and antlers, and half the time I couldn't parse what I was seeing.
I'm so glad I don't have to watch any more of this.
Seven Knights Revolution: Hero Successor
The Lowdown
Long ago, the Dark God Nestra ruled the world through fear. Standing against him were the Seven Knights, seven brave warriors chosen by the Light Goddess Serrass. With their powers combined, Nestra was defeated and the lands returned to peace. Hundreds of years later the wicked Physis Cult seeks to revive Nestra, summoning undead beasts to ravage the countryside. With the Seven Knights long dead, the Granseed Academy has risen to train the next wave of heroes to combat this threat. Using special cards, the students of Granseed are able to call upon the power of the Seven Knights to guide them in battle.
Our Thoughts
As soon as the opening started with its transforming heroes and lovingly depicted weapon cards, I realised this must be based on a mobile game. Indeed, this is based on a free-to-play gacha from Korean developer Netmarble. Even before I was able to confirm this, Hero Successor failed to draw me in, eschewing details on the nature of its world in lieu of a glamourised marketing push for its source material. What's here is incredibly slight, and likely to be of little interest to anyone who isn't deep into this game.
Who It's For
Seven Knights whales, I guess.
Sawamura Setsu mourns the death of his grandfather Matsugorou, a talented shamisen player who refused to pass his secrets on. Not knowing what else to do, he leaves his remote village for Tokyo, taking nothing but his shamisen along with him. Soon he finds himself wrapped up in the complicated life of aspiring actress Yuna and her scuzzy rockstar boyfriend Taketo. When Setsu opens for Taketo's band, he stuns the audience with the raw emotion of his playing. However, his heart is still tumultuous.
Our Thoughts
An entertaining first episode of a speciality music series, which is the kind of thing I have a place in my heart for. I couldn't shake the feeling of some latent misogyny that suggested the role of a woman is to inspire a tortured artist, but I might be wrong. The final few minutes take a twist by introducing Setsu's weird, horny mother who seems to have her own personal SWAT team, and it looks like the series becomes a more conventional high school anime from episode 2 onwards. Don't know about that!
Tokyo Revengers
Show Link
The Lowdown
Former delinquent Takemichi is unsatisfied with the way his life turned out, living alone in a paper-thin apartment and working a minimum wage job under a boss who doesn't respect him. When watching the news one evening, he learns that his highschool sweetheart Hinata was killed, alongside her little brother. On the way to work the next morning, Takemichi falls in front of an oncoming train and wakes up 12 years in the past. Armed with foreknowledge, he attempts to turn his life around and save his onetime lover.
Our Thoughts
This is drawing from a lot of sources; the whole train sequence is lifted straight from Gantz, while the story itself initially seems like a Life on Mars kind of deal. In fact, Tokyo Revengers sees Takemichi jump back and forth between the present and the past, seemingly making small changes until he achieves his desired outcome. It feels like a very video gamey depiction of time travel, and one that's not super interesting.
Who It's For
Steins;Gate fans, maybe? Delinquent manga (Shonan Junai Gumi, Crows, etc.) fans, maybe? It's pretty self-serious compared to any of those.
The creature treks back through the tundra where it meets a boy living alone, after the rest of his village left in search of a better life. The boy recognises the wolf as his beloved pet, Johann, and the two begin living together in the harsh, lonely wastes.
Our Thoughts
I'm being a little coy with the synopsis here, and there's a major shake-up at the end of this debut episode. This one's based on a manga by the critically acclaimed Yoshitoki Ooima (A Silent Voice), and it's a depressing, compelling, and exciting start to a series. Lots of potential here!
Brussels (take 2)
I Have just spent an hour typing up every detail of our trip so far and lost it all to a Google search so please forgive if this isn’t very good - I don’t have the energy! We made it! We awoke bright and early for our 4 am start and made it to the coach station with plenty of time to spare. After an emotional goodbye (for some parties more than others…) we boarded the rather swanky coach. We made it to London Victoria after a relatively painless journey considering we hit London just at the start of rush hour. Since we had left home about 4 hours earlier, we were both ready for the toilet by this point. We headed into the coach station in search of the rest room only to find that they charged 30p. Despite having plenty of euros, we didn’t have a British coin between us so we went for plan B and wandered to the Starbucks round the corner. We didn’t even make it through the door before seeing the big ‘Out of Order’ sign on the single toilet door. Never mind, London is full of cafés so we headed over towards the train station where we found a Nero’s with the exact same sign on the door. By this point we were starting to think we were part of some “mass toilet conspiracy” and doubt the future success of the trip. Luckily, we found some free and fully functioning toilets within the station just in time to prevent a full on existential crisis. With voided bladders, we bravely set off to catch the underground from Victoria and made it to the platform with only minor difficulty finding the entrance. There we watched three trains come and go before squeezing onto the fourth much to the annoyance of all around as we took up the space of about 5 people with all our baggage. We travelled four stops in this sardine can, arriving at Kings Cross - St Pancras with plenty of time to grab the second breakfast our stomachs were growling for. Having gone through security, waited for a bit and got on the Eurostar, we found ourselves sat just across from the grumpy man that, through the whole process, we had managed to annoy by getting in his way several times. Thankfully, he was your typical Brit and said nothing, just gave the odd disapproving look. After a couple of hours dozing, we found ourselves in a surprisingly hot (27°C) Brussels. From the station in the south, we had a rather sweaty half hour walk across to our hostel in the centre. We found it without trouble and managed to navigate our way around the roadworks and across the canal. We were the first to check into our dorm of 6 so chose the two single beds separate from the others. We were settling in nicely when our 4 Chilean room mates burst into the room to find me brushing my teeth the opposite side of the room to the bathroom. I offered an awkward wave, waited for them to move out the way a bit and then hurdled their bags to get to the sink. In my typical clumsy way, I then spilled everything from my overstuffed wash bag across the floor. They didn't seem to care but they weren't really the friendliest - not the best first experience of room mates but never mind! Refreshed from a brief sit down and change of clothes, we headed out into the sunshine to explore the city. We found our way to the "Grand Place", a beautiful square in the centre of Brussels where you find the town hall and other important buildings. It was heaving with tourists but we were still able to appreciate the gold decoration and intricate detail on all of the buildings. We then wondered through some little streets to the "Manneken Pis" which translates from Dutch as 'little-man pee' and sums it up very literally since it is a statue of a boy peeing into a fountain. Strangely, when I asked my grandparents about Brussels, this was the only thing they recommended seeing... We then wandered around for a little longer until we were, again, hungry so we stopped in a supermarket and picked up some food. Back at the hostel, we were pleased to find the kitchen empty despite the hostel being quite big and having no other eating/cooking facilities. We cooked a nice stir-fry and felt rather satisfied with ourselves for a successful first day of the backpacker lifestyle. After trying to socialise in the hostel bar for a little while, we went back to the room to watch a film. I was shattered so crashed out on the bed, face first, at about 8pm. I slept fairly well until 1:30 when our lovely roommates stumbled into the room. They bashed around for a bit then went to bed and I thought that was that but a few hours later I woke up to a chorus of 3 of them snoring at what was, in hindsight, an impressively loud volume. This was interjected only but the occasional banging of the fourth one on the bed above her in an attempt to put an end to snoring, to no avail. Hattie and I both dozed until 9am when we had planned to get up and I was a lot less worried about trying to be quiet than had our roomies been more considerate. We got ready - hairdryer and all - had breakfast then went off to catch the open top, hop on hop off bus. We found the central station - the start of the tour - with no problems but then struggled to find the stop. After a bit of stressiness, we grabbed a coffee to calm down and asked for directions to the stop which was just round the corner from where we had been looking. We hopped on the bus, plugged our headphones in and listened to commentary of all the sights we saw. About half an hour in we hopped off at the Atomium, an incredible building based on an iron crystal that was built for the World Expo. It was amazing to see in person as it was much larger than I had been expecting. Right next to the Atomium was Mini-Europe, a model village in tribute to the EU... Both of us felt the irony as we chose to go in. I was a little sceptical at first about how good it would be but I have to say it was really worth a visit. It was interesting seeing these well known buildings so near each other and comparing the size and style of them. My highlights were the mini Sacré-Cœur and the mini Houses of Parliament complete with tiny Brexit and Bremain campaigners. Having seen all the major buildings in Europe and even witnessed the eruption of Vesuvius in the space of a couple of hours, we hopped back on the bus to go to the Belgian Chocolate village. It was a great little museum with a chocolate kitchen in the middle that filled the whole place with the wonderful smell of chocolate. We were given truffles and I graciously ate both as Hattie couldn't and I must admit they were really good. We then walked back to the hostel to get our step count up for the day - no, I'm not a fitbitter but Hattie's phone keeps praising us for our activity level. We ate the leftovers from yesterday for dinner and had a relaxed evening in the hostel with another little wander around the surrounding area. I'm surprised by how quickly we've settled in and how natural it all feels. I wasn't expecting much from Brussels and although it took a while to get a feel for it with all its different areas, it's been a great start to our trip and I'm excited for what's to come. Next stop Rotterdam!
while the 'stand to the right of his majesty' is only a running gag in the movie, i think it's actually a good way to see the progression of alex and henry's relationship over the course of the two hours we are allowed of alex and henry's lives. we follow alex through his feelings developing, and a huge chunk of that can be seen in how he stands at henry's right side.
now, we all know that when alex is first told by shaan to stand by henry's right side, he argues with this. while no sources are actually telling me if it is protocol to stand by the right side of royalty, i do not doubt that it could be one of the (stupid) rules when being seen with one. after some reluctance, alex does actually stand by henry's right side.
now, this is the time where i bring up one of two notable times where alex is actually on the left side of henry, outside of cakegate (not counting this because alex and the audience are unaware of the protocol). the cupboard scene.
this is the first time we get a chance to see henry and alex vulnerable, and vulnerable together. obviously, they are in, what they are assuming is, a life-threatening situation, but in this cupboard, the protocol doesn't apply. for the first time, henry can talk to alex without the royal protocol holding him physically and mentally in place. he is henry fox.
directly after this, we have the two walk out of the hospital and alex enters a transitional period of his feelings towards henry. he lets go off his grudge and sees henry as a person. this new revelation that henry exists beyond the crown leads us to where alex realises he is in the wrong spot and corrects himself, before leaving to go back to the states.
we only get one other notable scene of role reversal, where henry is lying on alex's right side, listening to alex talk about his passions for politics and being the voice of representation. this is directly after the beautifully shot sex scene too, which adds a layer of translucency.
while it's probably not this deep, there is a level of certainty about where alex places himself around henry. alex stands on henry's right side to hold the weight of the crown of henry's shoulders. alex stands on the right of henry, because he will steal whatever moments he is allowed with henry. alex stands to the right of henry, so henry can show off his good side. alex stands to the right of henry, ready at henry's side but still a safe enough distance from henry's heart on the left.
there are many directions to go with this, but it could just be that it is protocol and alex is a slut for rules :)
hello nero my beloved soulmate!!!
i have pride stories!!! i went to pride this saturday and it was so much fun i need to tell you all about it!!!
well first of all i really hate that i had to work in the morning because it made me so tired and it was the first weekend of sales so yea, not fun. but anyway, my friend picked me up at 3pm and we got to florence. we had to park pretty far from the meeting point and then take a bus, and it was amazing because we were totally lost looking for that bus and at some point we see a bus full of people with rainbow flags, glitter, signs, flower crowns, rainbow stickers and temporary tattoos and all of that. and we just went in, no questions asked. we just figured we’d follow them out of the bus too 😂 i love our people honestly. we were so colorful
anyway we got to the meeting point and it was deadly hot. i swear there were like 45 degrees. but it was so amazing to be around all of those people dressed in all colors and wearing all sorts of things we’d usually be judged for, it felt so safe. except that there was a religious protestor so we got to give him the finger like the heartstopper cast did :)
also my sister came with me. she’s always so supportive and it meant the world that she came with me. anyway the parade started and there were some amazing floats. there were rainbow families, drag queens, all the lgbtqia+ associations from our territory and we started walking behind this float that had amazing music, so we started dancing and singing and it was so much fun!!! we got to talking with some people, there were some amazing signs that were just perfect and i had to go there and tell them how much i loved them :) it was just so fun, i loved meeting random people and it was just the perfect environment. at night there was also a dj set and a band singing to keep the show going!!
then when we were walking back to the bus stop at night we got the whiplash of not being surrounded by queer people anymore. we got catcalled like fifteen times in the span of three minutes. i kinda wanted to punch everyone because we had such a perfect day and i hated that we had to go back to the real world where people are shit 🥲
but still i got so many amazing memories and now all i want to do is book a flight to london for next year and have you come with me so we can celebrate together and see the heartstopper cast!!!!
also, i got a new tattoo yesterday!! and i actually had red white and royal blue with me to distract me so i almost finished the book again and cried in from of my tattoo artist lol it took me the whole day again and it was so painful but so worth it!!! i got medusa on my leg 😻
also, as to our previous letter i just wanted to say that of course i believed in you!!!! i knew you could do it!! but i can definitely believe you had to close your eyes to open that message 😂 getting grades back is always so stressful!! now manifesting a spot for the exchange 🕯️🕯️🕯️ i really hope you get it!!! it’s an amazing experience, you’d definitely love it!!!
and i’m really glad you found someone who specialises in what you need. it can take a while to find the right therapist but i hope this one works out!!
(i’m also writing down sydney and melbourne for when i’m rich enough to visit 😂 i literally booked a flight for august and my bank account kinda yelled at me to stop spending money i don’t have lol)
anyways i’m really sorry i’ve been away for so long, i had a crazy week between the beginning of seasonal sales, pride and the tattoo appointment. i kinda didn’t have time to do anything 🥲
i’m giving you a hug and some homemade chocolate chip cookies with biscoff cream on top <33
hello cece my beloved soulmate!!!!
oh my god i've been so excited to hear about this!!!
that sucks you had to go to work, boo!!! but at least you were off early enough to still go to pride!!!! and how cool that you got to share the experience of going on the bus with all the queer people!! i bet there was no straight and/or cis people on that bus 😂😂😂 just follow the rainbow!!
hot days are the worst, but pride would have made it so much better. i would not be focused on how sweaty i was or the temperature with the amount of queer joy happening around me! it's so wonderful that in a parade full of people and colour that you were able to feel so incredibly safe, and it would have been such an intimate moment for you! and fuck that religious protestor, i'm so glad you gave him the finger. the heartstopper cast would be so proud of you :')
oh that warms my heart that your sister came!!! that was so nice of her to come with you!! the floats sound amazing, and the singing and dancing!!! i am feeling some of the joy through my screen!! seriously, cece, this sounds like the most incredible time. i want to cry just thinking about you having so much fun with your friend and your sister, celebrating your queerness and talking to new people and singing and dancing like there's no one else around 🥲🥲🥲
the trip home must have been so dull in comparison! and how dare those people catcall you, i hope you gave them the same treatment as that religious protestor because seriously what the fuck.
the only thing that matters now is that you had a safe and wonderful time at pride and you can cherish those memories for the rest of your life! and yes, we must do it!! i will literally stay for an extra month just to go to pride in london with you <3
oh my god yay!!! i bet the medusa tattoo looks so cool! and yes reading rwrb while getting tattooed is properly not your best idea, but i'm already rereading rwrb any chance i get to annotate it fully before the movie so i can't say much 😂
okay, cece, i must let you know, because i said to myself i would let you know as soon as i could. but this morning, i woke up (quite late actually). i checked my watch for my notifications. i see an email waiting for me. i die a little inside realising it is from the exchange team at my university. i run out to grab my phone from where i charge it. i speed past my mum. i unlock my phone. i open my email and click on the newest one. and.... I GOT A SPOT EARLY!!! AT MY FIRST UNIVERSITY TOO!!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT??? i'm still in so much shock and i thank you for your manifesting and belief in me!!! oh my god i have so much to do before then (mostly saving money ngl 😂) but oh my god cece, i'm going to england for exchange!!!!!!
me too!! i just need to find the time to get a referral, so i can go and see them!!
(literally sydney and melbourne are lowkey expensive, but it is totally worth it!! and i would be more than happy to tell you where to go and where to stay! <3)
do not apologise!!! we are all busy! i am literally working the equivalent of a full time job over the next two weeks and i'm also dogsitting over the weekend :') pray for my poor soul.
i'm giving you the biggest hug i hope contains the same warmth as pride and i'm fighting off your customers so you can have a few moments to breathe <3333
NERO MY BELOVED SOULMATE BESTIE!!!!
i’m back!!! i took a few weeks off because life has been a lot and i felt like i needed a little break from everything 🥲
how are you?? what have you been up to in these last few weeks?? i missed you so much!! and i have stories to tell!!
so, i went to paris for a week back in october. i don’t know if you knew this, but paris has been plagued by a bug infestation lately, and the week before me and my friend were supposed to leave they also started having bomb alarms around the city. like the day before we left versailles had been evacuated for a bomb (it was a false alarm in the end) so we were kinda scared and worried. but the city was okay and we didn’t have much of a choice so we went. it was amazing!!! the first two days were perfect, the weather was absolutely amazing, freezing but always sunny, and we walked around the classic spots of the city. we had lots of macarons and croissants too. that was always the best part of the day. then on day three we’d booked versailles. on the day before it had been evacuated again for a false alarm so i thought it would be safe, they checked the night before, but well… after we’d been inside one hour the guards started to talk hurriedly to each other and they led us to the exits, we got evacuated. it looked like they were trying not to cause a panic but it didn’t work, also because there were way too many people inside!! it was crazy and scary, but luckily we were okay and we got safely out. and it was another false alarm, luckily. we decided not to let it ruin the whole trip so that night we went to the eiffel tower and had a nice dinner and dessert. then day four was disneyland!!! it was SPECTACULAR!!! nero have you ever been to a disneyland park?? it is everything you could ever hope it to be. it is pure magic, pure happiness. my friend and i felt like we were outside of the universe, it felt like nothing could touch us, like no problem could reach us. we were kids again. we were singing along to all the songs from our childhood and riding all the attractions and posing with princesses and cartoon animals and we bought so many little souvenirs to keep the magic with us. i got a cheshire cat plushie which is now my favorite thing i own. i have absolutely no regrets even if it costed 30 euros. same goes for my minnie’s ears which had a unicorn horn and a rainbow veil (see attached photograph) another 30 bucks, i have worn them only once, and i love them to pieces 😂 anyways, now is where the fun part really starts. we walked out of disneyland at 11pm after the night show (made me cry for 30 minutes straight, totally would recommend) and we had to take a train to get to the underground. well obviously there was a suspicious backpack at the station so it was closed for about 30 minutes to figure out what it was. it was late and our phones were almost dead so we tried to look for a taxi or bus and they’d put up a special bus service to take us to the closest train station, but as you can imagine it was absolutely packed and when we got off my friend noticed that her bag was open and her wallet was gone. we rushed back to the park to see if they’d had it in the last shop where she bought something but nothing, then we rushed back home to call the police and block all the cards, but of course we only got to the champs-elysées and then they kicked us out of the underground because it was closing. again our phones were out of battery so we didn’t even know if the buses were still running or not or how to call a cab, but luckily a cab passed by like two minutes later and we managed to get back to the hotel. and well, the 24h hotel door was closed. we panicked for about 10 minutes and ringed the bell a thousand times before anyone came to open the door. they were “just in the back for a minute” and i mean, fair enough, but on top of everything it was just the last drop.
anyways, the next morning we went to the police and got all the documents we needed to get back to italy and it was okay, it was just a very long wait for a two seconds job so it pissed me off a bit, but still we had a whole day and a half left so we enjoyed it. we had the louvre planned for that afternoon and it was so beautiful. and it was very heartstopping. pun intended 😂 we actually went and looked for every room we saw in the show and stayed about five hours in each one. this is where elle and tao kiss for the first time, it’s the exact place. can you guess how much i cried??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the only thing we couldn’t find was the painting on the stairs where nick talks to elle. i was very upset about that :( but anyways, the next day we came home and all i can say for this trip is wow. it felt like a five months trip somehow 😂 it was tiring and stressful and it tested my anxiety a lot, but honestly it was kind of perfect. this friend i was with is my opposite and my half in a lot of things and somehow we managed to laugh it all off whenever something crazy happened and we still had one of the absolute best trips of my life. i am so happy, i actually am getting a tattoo for our day at disneyland because it feels necessary hehe
and speaking of tattoos, i have a new one to show you!!! i finally got another heartstopper tattoo!!! and it is perfect and my favorite ever ♥️ i’ve wanted this vignette on my skin forever, and every time i see it it reminds me of everything about this story and it makes me so happy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
anyways, enough about me!!! i’ve been away from this hellsite for so long, so how are you?? how is life?? i am very eager to catch up!!
i’m sending you a macaron because i am craving them again now (i’ve tried the marie antoniette macaron and i swear to god it feels like drinking a cup of tea, it’s unreal) and a warm tea to drink as you read because i’ve written so damn much, i can’t tell a simple story i missed you so so so much nero <3333
HELLO CECE MY BELOVED SOULMATE BESTIE!!!
it is so wonderful to hear from you!! i missed you so so much!! i was wondering how your trip went!! tbh i have been very on and off this website just because life is so exhausting :') i'm very excited to catch up with what's been happening with you!!
yes! i did hear about the bedbug thing! i had a few friends in paris around the same time and it was also all over the news here (funny that...) but i did not hear about the bomb alarms, that must have been so scary!! oh i can only imagine how lovely the macarons and the croissants were. nothing would be better than the original! i'm glad it was a false alarm and that you all got out safe. that must have been terrifying. AND DISNEYLAND?! cece i have never ever been to a disneyland but it has always been a dream of mine! i think the closest disneyland to me is japan or singapore 😭😭😭 but that's so wonderful to hear that you had such a lovely time!!! what was your favourite ride? any snacks you would recommend?? i would love to see the cheshire cat plushy, it sounds adorable! and the minnie ears!!! i'm obsessed and you're right: buying ears at disneyland is essential, it doesn't matter if you only wear them for the day! and what an end to a good day 😂😂 that sounds so anxiety-inducing, i audibly gasped as i was reading 😂
literally!!! government documents and officials make you wait so long for something that takes so little time!!! it's so fucking frustrating >:( the louvre!!! that would have been so cool, and it would have had extra meaning because of the show!! and i think i would have died a little, looking at the exact spot elle and tao had their first kiss! i don't blame you for crying at all 😂😂
a positive is that you got to see every other painting and iconic place from heartstopper and that's all that matters!! the trip sounded like so much fun, but yes, very draining with all those things not going to plan!! and i'm so glad you went with a friend who would laugh it all off with you and still make sure you guys had a good time!! that would have been so lovely! oh and absolutely you need to get a disneyland tattoo!! that would be perfect!
speaking of perfect, your new tattoo is so cute!!!! i love that panel too and it's just such a good representation of nick and charlie's relationship throughout the series!! and a really good placement too. ugh you always get the best tattoos!
as for me, i've been doing okay!! i have finished university for the year, and i am currently preparing for my exchange (i go to the uk NEXT MONTH! cece that is so crazy) a part of preparing for my exchange is unfortunately working a lot, but i have been rostered every single public holiday coming up so i should be getting a good amount of money before i leave!
and you'll be happy to know that after the christmas/new year's period, i'm going to stop working and have a few weeks of rest before i go!! i'm planning on just catching up with friends before i leave, packing and just actually getting a good night's sleep 😂😂
oh, also! i know you wanted little updates about what was going on in my love life, sooooooo... in the time you've been gone, i managed to get a girlfriend!!! i'm very happy and i have no clue what i am doing at all times, but it's good :)
i'm going to send you a little pavlova (a meringue like dessert australians typically have around christmas time, loaded with fruit and cream) and a little iced tea to go with, because my god, is it hot in australia right now. miss you heaps!!! <3
NERO MY BELOVED!!! <333
how are you doing?? how’s the semester going?? i miss you a lot!!!
also, look what i found!!! i was looking through the rwrb tag and this came up, with all the valentines cards!!! i had to share
i’m also sending you a big hug and a warm cup of tea <33
CECE MY BELOVED!!!! <333
i'm doing really well!!! i actually love living in the uk so much, i totally understand why you loved ireland on your exchange too. my classes are so fucking good and i've actually managed to make friends, which i didn't think i'd be able to do 🥺
actually your message came just in time for me to tell you how crazy my day was on wednesday, but i am still in the middle of processing it.
so i went into london on wednesday for wasia project (which they were PHENOMENAL). i managed to bump into michael sheen AND talk to him (i barely could say anything besides how much i loved him in good omens, my friend stopped him and spoke to him for me LOL). not only THAT, but i walked past where they were setting up for the mary and george premiere like four times and you bet if i didn't have a concert to line up for, i would have walked to my nearest waterstones, bought yet anothe rwrb and waited the hours for nicholas galitizine. london is fucking crazy dude.
those valentine's cards are perfect, i'll keep those for next year!! <3
and how have you been?? i hope work has been okay and not stressing you out too much!
sending some jaffa cakes and a big cup of tea <333
NERO MY BELOVED SOULMATE
I AM A WRECK. I CANNOT EVER RECOVER. THIS WAS EVERYTHING I COULD HAVE ASKED FOR AND SO MUCH MORE. IT WAS EVERYTHING. nick is henry. he embodies him so perfectly. tyou could see every single fucking emotion in his eyes. they both put their whole souls into these characters and they gave us the best possible alex and henry ever. the fact that we also got the last part of the movie from henry’s pov?? THE EMAILS LEAK FROM HENRY’S POV??? I CAN NEVER THANK THEM ENOUGH FOR THIS
there were a lot of things missing but you know what?? i didn’t even care because this is like a fluff/comfort fic and it was completely centered on them and it was perfect
but also wtf happened with the casting of miguel?? wasn’t he supposed to be played by polo morin?? i was just confused 😂
CECE MY BELOVED SOULMATE!!
OH. MY. FUCKING. GOD. it was AMAZING. i feel so full and so empty at the same time. i don’t know what else to do except rock back and forth in a corner and sob.
NICK WAS SO GOOD AT BEING HENRY! henry is literally my number one character of all time and seeing him on the screen made my heart ACHE. HIS EYES SPOKE A THOUSAND WORDS 😭😭😭 AND TAYLOR OMG! taylor was so good at understanding the nuances of alex, it was clear he had read the book seven or eight times 🥺 it was just beautiful and having the last part in henry’s pov killed me actually. i cried the WHOLE time.
the movie was never going to include everything, but cece, we have a queer cheesy romcom 🥹🥹🥹 and it’s our boys 😭😭😭
yeah look idk either 😂😂
Thoughts on Heartstopper season 2 (yes ik I'm late, I've only just finished watching it)?
hi friend!
i wish there was less of a stigma or a need to binge watch a season the second it comes out, because it only came out on thursday and you probably just paced yourself with it, so you didn’t finish it late at all :)
besides that, i LOVED it! it was really nice to see the natural development of nick and charlie’s relationship, while also getting to know all the other characters and their struggles too. the paris trip and prom was a good way to provide a bridge between the story of season one and the eventual story of season three and hopefully future seasons as well
i like how friendships were just as important as relationships in this season too. like charlie and tao, imogen and the gang, isaac and james, etc. it was just so nice to see :)
anyways, i should stop talking otherwise i will keep talking and talking and talking about heartstopper! thank you for asking me what i think about it :)
CONGRATS ON 200 NERO!!! I hope your Heartstopper sweater is as cozy and warm as your blog 🖤
🍪 Will and Jem please
Tumblr media
HI BRY! thank you so much, and i am so sorry this is getting to you so late! and i really hope the vibes of my blog are even a quarter of cosiness of the heartstopper sweater
as requested, here is your will and jem headcanon <3
i can only imagine that considering jem was destined to die quite early, he had a little bucket list of things he wanted to do before he eventually died
and will being will found this hidden in jem’s room
he took note of what things jem wanted to do and he just started to slowly tick off things
will didn’t want jem to notice will was taking him out to do these things on purpose… more like a happy coincidence
but jem, as we know, is quite observant, and he seemed to notice a pattern in the places will would take him, the foods will would make him try, the books will would give him
so jem would tick off the things on his list, and add new ones, leaving the list in the same spot for Will to look at.
eventually it turned into a “let’s see how many will can force jem to do in a year” challenge
sometimes, will would smash out three things in one day, which would leave jem to retire to his bedroom for a week
on jem’s slower days, will would try and do the more quieter wishes, like sitting by the fire together while jem teaches will how to play wei qi
either way, they both enjoyed how it made them even closer and it also gave them ideas of things to do on their days off
neither of them spoke about the bucket list. it ruined the whole fun of it. after all, they were just two parabatai having fun together, right?
hello nero my beloved soulmate!! <33
i’m back and i am already suffering from severe PHD (post holiday depression, i decided it is a thing). my friend left last night and i hate this. it’s so unfair that we live in two different countries and we can’t see each other as much as we would like to. i’ll probably see her soon, i should have another week off in august and we were talking about me visiting her this time so hopefully i’ll be able to go.
anyway, on to the trip!! it was so cool!! i mean the first week we stayed in tuscany, we went around florence and a few other cities around here, and we got tattoos!!! i told you about this already but they are so cute!!! our little irish dinosaurs (they’re irish because we met in ireland <3 they’re named saoirse and niamh).
then for the second week we went to rome!! oh it was so nice!! we found the perfect weather. it was always sunny and warm enough to go around in shorts, but never too hot not to be able to explore. we went for the usual places: the colosseum, the pantheon, the squares and fountains, all that. but also we accidentally found ourselves into the roman forums and they were amazing!! i’d never been in them, only seen them from above, but they are so big, you can see a whole city. but the highlight was ostia antica. it was this archeological site near rome and it’s so quiet because not may people know it. it’s an 84 acres site where you can literally walk into houses and shops and temples and theaters from the roman period. and it’s amazing because usually rome is very protected, like there are fences and barriers everywhere, you can’t get too close to a lot of stuff, but in ostia antica we could literally touch the ruins, walk through them and find our way back in a maze of doors and corridors. it was so cool!!! also that’s where i found the cats!! they were so cute and friendly 🥺
last thing before i close this letter. the food!!! oh the food. we found this little restaurant on the very first night, which was actually so close to the trevi fountain, and it was so cheap and good (very rare combination to find in the middle of rome). they had some of the best spaghetti i’ve ever tried. also we kept going back there in the next days so they recognized us and they were so nice because they offered us appetizers and wine and they always remembered that we liked to order three plates of pasta to share between the two of us. they were so nice!!
i really needed this trip. i needed to be off work for a few weeks and just disconnect from all the drama and stress. and the good food and wine helped a lot with that lol. but seriously i’m so happy, it was an amazing trip and it was so good to see my friend again after so long <3
but enough about me now!! how are you doing nero?? what have you been doing these last two weeks??
also, about our last letter, i am very happy that you are following my orders and planning a very relaxing trip :) you deserve to not even think about uni when you’re on a trip. and it’s gonna be so fun to dance to that kind of music!! can’t wait to hear all about that one!!
and i’m very happy you’re obsessed with me getting tattoos because this is turning into a sickness. i can’t stop now :’)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but here are my other two tatts!!! the little rainbow one is very simple but very personal. i’ve been waiting forever to get it and it looks perfect 🥺 (yayyy you can start booking stuff!!! that means tattoos coming soon!!!)
i’m enclosing a hug and a really big plate of cacio e pepe (a kind of spaghetti with cheese and black pepper) just because one can never have too much pasta <3333
hi cece my beloved soulmate!!!!
i believe phd (post holiday depression) is a thing, i get it every time. it’s sad that your friend has gone home, but think about august!!! that should be so fun!!!
i’ve seen pictures of tuscany and it’s so beautiful!! and yes tattoos!! the fact that they are irish dinosaurs named saoirse and niamh because you met in ireland is the cutest story behind a matching tattoo ever 🥺🥺
oh rome!!!! that weather sounds lovely, i’m glad it was around for the entire trip!! sounds like you got up to quite a lot!! i’m literally imagining you walking around and pointing out these little tourist attractions 🥺 but ostia antica sounds so beautiful. a whole 84 acres to explore and experience the ancient roman life?? i would go crazy in there, especially with all the cats!!
oh the food sounds incredible!!! it’s so amazing you found something good and cheap!!! but those people sound so nice 🥹🥹 i’m glad they also added to such a wonderful break you had! i feel like pasta now…
you definitely needed that trip!! just a refresh is sometimes all you need, and good food and wine are recommended to help relax by doctors actually 😌😌😌 but i’m so happy you got to see your friend after so long and i’m so glad that you enjoyed yourself!!!!
i’ve been doing alright!! i had my trip to sydney and my twice concert, and it was so much more fun than i thought it would be!!! so i took my best friend and a family friend of mine, and my manager from work came too, but we all booked our concert tickets together so it was me and my friends, my manager and her brother and his partner. (don’t even ask me how stressful buying six tickets was)
the japanese place opened up again, and we were staying somewhere even closer to it. we basically walked everywhere, because the train station is in the shopping centre next to the japanese place, and that was only ten minutes away. so i took my friends to eat more ramen than we could see and we shared a bottle of soju (my friends are lightweights and it was VERY funny to watch. i had to finish the bottle off though)
and then we did lots of activities on the tuesday before the concert and we went to that album shop and book shop again and i spent way too much money, cece’s orders 😌😌 i spent so much money in the album shop they gave me a free album and preorder benefit photocards (which are really rare!!) and i had to show my id in the book store because i bought a level one restricted novel (actually banned in my state, but my professors made me too curious), which was quite funny
the twice concert was so fun, literally everyone in the audience were dancing and singing, and i was gay panicking and it was wonderful! each of the members of twice also had a solo performance and they did so well! one of them, momo, had this dance where she HAD A POLE?!?!? AND SHE HAD NEVER POLE DANCED BEFORE?? she was so good, i will save your eardrums by not sending the video i took 😌
anyways, here’s the photo they posted at the end!! we are in the centre and slightly to the right <3 (i’m sure you’ll see me 😂😂)
Tumblr media
and then we actually got the chance to go to the harbour bridge and the opera house, which are in the same place, so we didn’t waste too much time there! and then we went to this room of claw machines near the eateries and i managed to win two things!! (one of them i spent way too much money to grab out, but he looked so lonely and i had to get my son out 😭😭) and then we had gelato mochi, which my friend found. so they get a scoop of ice cream and wrap it with mochi! we all got two, because none of us can make a decision and it really was a good end to the trip 🥺
other than that, i am running a little behind on uni, but i decided to use some of my leave and take the week off work. i’m just going to smash out the essays i have due (and overdue) and i’ll probably be able to rest better during the big exam session 😌
i’ve been looking forward to seeing these two and you didn’t disappoint! the rainbow one is adorable and the font for the script on your ribs is beautiful!!! i think i might be addicted to your tattoo addiction 😂 (yay!!! i’m so excited!!)
i really wanted this cacio e pepe, all this talking of food made me hungry! i’m squeezing you back real tight and i’m giving you a bowl of ramen <3333333
