One thing I really appreciate about Heartstopper is how it puts friendships on the same level as romantic relationships. Like, how Charlie wrote Tao's name on the lock and not Nick's? That was so beautiful. It shows that friendships matters as much, that we should cherish them too.

The consent talk this season was something so fucking important. It really really was. I’m proud of the boys and I know it’s basic human rights and decency. But do you guys understand how important that scene was for queer youths to see??? That’s shit I did not get as a teenager, queer teen or not. There was hardly even talks of consent in schools.

HEARTSTOPPER, SEASON 2 (2023)
“You won’t understand what I mean now, but someday you will: the only trick of friendship, I think, is to find people who are better than you are—not smarter, not cooler, but kinder, and more generous, and more forgiving—and then to appreciate them for what they can teach you, and to try to listen to them when they tell you something about yourself, no matter how bad—or good—it might be, and to trust them, which is the hardest thing of all. But the best, as well.”
― Hanya Yanagihara, A Little Life

“Also, I bought you chocolate,” I say, when we break apart after a while. I take the Oreo Dairy Milk bar out of my pocket, hoping it hasn’t melted too much in the heat.
“Oh, man.” He grabs it and tears it open. “That’s it. You’ve sealed the deal now. We’re practically married.”
