Seeing that gifset, one of the things I love about the way Edvin and Omar portray intimacy is how they often breathe into eachother's mouths even without kissing. They did this since season one (the handjob scene) and I realize now how rarely we see this in films or series. They even did it in that after choir kiss by the lockers... It somehow feels more intimate than kissing to me?

It is a collective work. The writing, acting, coordinating, and directing, all do a brilliant job of showing intimacy. But yes, Edvin and Omar are outstandingly good at doing microexpressions coming from the feelings involved in that specific moment. It is not a robotic intimacy portrayal that looks like a "we had to do it, so we did it"

They just disappear as Edvin and Omar, and become Wilhelm and Simon while also putting such natural acting skills at the base. Moreover, in the sex scenes, or any other intimacy scenes, they become more than Wilhelm and Simon, they also become Wilmon as if they are one entity. They are just mind-blowingly good at transferring their chemistry to us via a TV screen and doing such a boundary-pushing job with their utmost care for their work. Hence, their acting in kissing and sex scenes feels a thousand times more intimate than any other such scenes we see in other shows/movies. We rarely see such a great portrayal, actor-match, and chemistry on screen.

Thinking about how Edvin once said that in S1 ending, every bone in Wilhelm's body wanted to just get out of the car and kiss Simon but he couldn't. Thinking about how in the S3 finale......he finally did.

one of the things i love about young royals is that the s1 tagline being “love or duty” leads you to believe this is going to be like all of the other cliche royal/commoner modern romances where the journey ends with wilhelm realizing he can have both

but then the show is actually an interrogation of how the protagonist cannot maintain his role within the monarchy and have a healthy relationship because no one can be a fully realized individual within a hierarchical colonial institution AND coming into queerness is a stepping stone to the self realization that ultimately frees him AND it is actually the antagonist who gets trapped within the monarchy (while also losing love) proving that upholding the power of the ruling class is a narrative punishment instead of a reward… perfect show
