shoutout to heartstopper for not shying away from using the world lesbian once again in season 2. actually shoutout to heartstopper for using all the words, bisexual, lesbian, asexual, aromantic, trans. shoutout to heartstopper for not only using the word gay, but making characters reclaim their identities in every possible way. nick always clarifying that he’s bi, actually. the person at lambert saying they’re asexual and aromantic. tara and darcy calling themselves lesbians. it is so empowering to hear it on tv

season 1 tao's "once you get into a relationship, friendships don't matter anymore" vs season 2 charlie writing "charlie ♡ tao" on the heart locket + "wait, isn't that for you and nick?" "no."

sorry yeah I'm just lil emotional over the portrayal of platonic love as something that can be just as worthy as romantic love. i'm okay.

ben cutting charlie off while he’s talking by kissing him vs nick always wanting to hear what charlie has to say

ben pretending like he doesn’t know charlie in the halls vs nick constantly saying charlie is his best friend and wanting to hang out with him

ben saying “you know i’m sorry about ignoring you” and “if you’ve finished sulking yet” when he upsets charlie vs nick profusely apologizing when he’s done something wrong and reiterating to charlie how much he cares about him

ben calling charlie desperate and saying he didn’t even like him vs nick constantly complimenting charlie and saying that he loves liking him

ben wanting to keep them a secret because he was ashamed of himself and charlie vs nick only wanting to keep them a secret while he was still figuring out his sexuality and still telling the people closest to them when he was comfortable with it

ben not even wanting to admit that they were boyfriends vs nick loudly and gleefully declaring that they were boyfriends

I don’t care what the reviews say: I love the teachers’ romance. Heartstopper is about queer coming of age, and Mr. Farouk’s queer coming of age was delayed. Many of us experienced this. His story belongs.

Even though Imogen is such a small part of the show, the bits and pieces we get from her are so telling and make my heart ache for her. The way she stayed in her friend group even when Harry clearly didn't respect her. How even though she's close to Nick, she doesn't listen to his warning about Ben because she's clinging to anyone who makes her feel wanted. The lost and sad but unsurprised look on her face when everyone starts forming their Paris trip groups and she has no one to group with. The way she asks about joining Nick and his friends and is pleasantly shocked when they seem to actually want her there. She's so obviously a girl who's spent a long time if not her whole life feeling undesired and will latch onto affection wherever she can find it as a result, and though that part hurts, my favorite little side plot was her slowly integrating into the main group and seemingly finding real community and connection for the first time. I'm so glad Alice Oseman added her to the show. And admittedly I'm a bit tempted to write a little one-shot fleshing out her history and her becoming part of the group because she's important to me.
