7 Effective Ways to Lower Cholesterol Naturally || How To Lower Choleste...
7 Effective Ways to Lower Cholesterol Naturally: We understand the importance of maintaining healthy cholesterol levels for overall well-being. High cholesterol levels can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases, which is why it's crucial to take proactive steps to reduce cholesterol naturally. In this article, we will discuss seven effective ways to lower cholesterol without the use of medication, providing you with valuable insights and practical tips to improve your cardiovascular health.
1. Embrace a Heart-Healthy Diet:  A balanced and heart-healthy diet is a key factor in maintaining optimal cholesterol levels. Incorporating the following foods into your daily meals can significantly reduce cholesterol levels:
Fiber-rich Foods: Increase your intake of soluble fiber found in fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains. Soluble fiber helps lower LDL (bad) cholesterol by binding to it and aiding in its removal from the body.
Healthy Fats: Opt for unsaturated fats, such as those found in olive oil, avocados, nuts, and seeds. These fats can help increase HDL (good) cholesterol while decreasing LDL cholesterol.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Include fatty fish like salmon, tuna, and mackerel in your diet. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce inflammation and lower cholesterol levels.
2. Maintain a Healthy Weight: Excess weight, particularly around the waistline, can contribute to higher cholesterol levels. By adopting a healthy lifestyle that includes regular physical activity and a well-balanced diet, you can achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week to support your weight management goals and improve your cholesterol profile.
3. Get Moving with Regular Exercise: Engaging in regular physical activity has numerous benefits, including lowering cholesterol levels. Incorporate aerobic exercises like brisk walking, cycling, swimming, or jogging into your routine. These activities not only improve cardiovascular health but also help raise HDL cholesterol and lower LDL cholesterol.
4. Limit Saturated and Trans Fats : To effectively reduce cholesterol, it is important to minimize the consumption of saturated and trans fats. These unhealthy fats can raise LDL cholesterol levels, contributing to heart disease. Limit your intake of processed foods, fried foods, fatty meats, and full-fat dairy products. Opt for lean proteins, low-fat dairy, and healthier cooking methods such as baking, grilling, or steaming.
5. Increase Antioxidant-Rich Foods: Antioxidants play a crucial role in protecting your body from oxidative stress and reducing cholesterol oxidation. Incorporate antioxidant-rich foods into your diet, including:Berries: Blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries are excellent sources of antioxidants that can improve cholesterol levels.Dark Chocolate: Enjoy a small amount of dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa) as it contains antioxidants called flavonoids, which have been shown to positively impact cholesterol.
 6. Quit Smoking for Improved Cholesterol Levels:  Smoking not only damages your lungs but also negatively affects cholesterol levels. Quitting smoking is one of the most beneficial steps you can take to improve your overall health, including your cholesterol profile. Seek support from healthcare professionals, join smoking cessation programs, and consider alternative therapies to quit smoking successfully.
7. Manage Stress Levels: Chronic stress can impact cholesterol levels and increase the risk of heart disease. Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as practicing mindfulness, engaging in relaxation techniques like yoga or meditation, and pursuing hobbies or activities that bring you joy. Managing stress effectively can have a positive impact on your cholesterol levels and overall well-being.
Conclusion: By following these seven effective strategies, you can take control of your cholesterol levels naturally. Incorporate heart-healthy foods into your diet, maintain a healthy weight, engage in regular exercise, and make lifestyle changes to reduce stress. Remember, consistency is key, and with time, these habits will become second nature, resulting in improved cholesterol profiles and a healthier you. Implementing these strategies will not only improve your cholesterol levels but also enhance your overall health and well-being.

Cardiovascular Health Supplements: Enhancing Heart Wellness Naturally
Tumblr media
Introduction:
Cardiovascular health supplements are natural dietary products formulated to support heart function, circulation, and overall cardiovascular wellness.
In this blog, we explore how cardiovascular health supplements can enhance heart wellness naturally, without the need for pharmaceutical interventions.
Natural Ingredients for Heart Health:
Cardiovascular health supplements are typically derived from natural sources such as herbs, vitamins, minerals, and plant extracts.
These natural ingredients are chosen for their specific benefits in promoting heart health, such as reducing inflammation, improving blood flow, and supporting healthy cholesterol levels.
Unlike pharmaceutical drugs, cardiovascular health supplements work in harmony with the body's natural processes to enhance heart wellness.
Supporting Heart Function:
Many Cardiovascular Health Supplements contain ingredients that support optimal heart function, such as Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and L-arginine.
CoQ10 is a natural antioxidant produced by the body that plays a key role in energy production within the cells of the heart muscle.
L-arginine is an amino acid that helps promote the production of nitric oxide, a molecule that relaxes blood vessels and improves blood flow to the heart.
Promoting Circulation:
Poor circulation can contribute to cardiovascular problems such as high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, and peripheral artery disease.
Cardiovascular health supplements containing ingredients like garlic extract, hawthorn berry, and beetroot extract can help promote healthy circulation.
These natural ingredients work to dilate blood vessels, improve blood flow, and reduce the risk of blood clots, thereby enhancing heart wellness.
Lowering Cholesterol Levels:
High cholesterol levels are a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke.
Certain cardiovascular health supplements, such as plant sterols, soluble fiber, and niacin (vitamin B3), can help lower LDL cholesterol levels and improve overall cholesterol balance.
These natural ingredients work by inhibiting cholesterol absorption in the intestines, increasing the excretion of cholesterol from the body, and promoting the breakdown of LDL cholesterol in the bloodstream.
Reducing Inflammation:
Chronic inflammation is a contributing factor to the development and progression of cardiovascular disease.
Many cardiovascular health supplements contain anti-inflammatory ingredients like omega-3 fatty acids, turmeric, and green tea extract.
These natural ingredients help reduce inflammation in the arteries, prevent plaque buildup, and protect against the damage caused by oxidative stress.

Plant-Based Benefits and Tips!
A couple of lovely people asked for some elaboration on plant-based eating! I studied nutrition & dietetics in college before I dropped out so I'm not a professional in nutrition but I do have a broad understanding of the biochemistry behind what we eat.
This is kind of a long post, so continue under the cut!
Starting with the basics!
I aim for a more whole foods plant-based diet, which is essentially a low-fat diet that focuses on removing all animal products, limiting processed food, and minimizing oils.
Looking at micronutrients, both protein and carbs have about 4 calories per gram, but oil has 9 calories per gram. Low-fat diets are often easier to manage calories on, as you can fill up on a higher volume of protein and carbs (specifically fiber) to reach satiety, whereas processed/high-fat foods are higher in calories per serving, meaning you get less volume.
You DO need fat in your diet, but it's preferable to reach for nuts, seeds, avocados, etc. instead of oil, which is comparatively nutritionally void.
FIBER IS YOUR BESTIE. Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are low in calories meaning you can eat more of them, reaching satiety faster than you would with something processed. Fiber makes your digestive system happy. Be sure to incorporate more plants into your diet gradually so your digestive system can adjust.
Let's talk about animal products...
They are inflammatory by nature. If it comes from an animal, particularly red meat and ESPECIALLY processed meat, it will cause stomach issues in most people.
Fun fact, we are biologically closer to herbivores than carnivores. Our digestive tracts are much longer and our stomachs are less acidic than a carnivore's, meaning we are designed to most efficiently digest plant matter. Carnivores, on the other hand, have short digestive tracts and significantly more acidic stomachs for breaking down flesh and bone. This is why many people experience gastrointestinal discomfort when consuming meat. This leads to bloating, gas, and constipation. We are omnivores because we CAN consume animal products for survival, but it is nowhere near optimal.
Dairy is highly inflammatory and is directly linked to hormonal cancers (breast, prostate, etc.) It is also high in saturated fat, which is inflammatory. When we are born, we have the "gene" necessary to process breastmilk, but for many people, as we age, this "gene" gets switched off. Past infancy, we don't need milk (or other dairy products) because we can get our nutrients from other food sources. Black and Asian individuals have the highest rates of lactose intolerance. Not to mention, dairy is full of foreign bacteria, especially from factory farms, which causes an immune response in the body, leading to further inflammation.
Eggs are saturated fat and cholesterol bombs. They're high in protein, sure, but you can get protein and a wide variety of other nutrients from things like tofu.
To summarize, animal products are high in fat, high in cholesterol, high in calories, and cause inflammation, bloating, gas, and of course, constipation. Eating whole foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans/legumes, tofu, nuts, and seeds will boost your fiber intake, fill you with antioxidants, foster healthy gut bacteria, and reduce gastrointestinal issues.
Make sure you add more plants to your diet GRADUALLY. If you immediately go full force into eating plant-based, your stomach will experience distress due to the sudden increase in fiber, creating gas and bloating. But this will subside, and you'll feel better overall!
I highly recommend listening to seminars on YouTube by Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Michael Greger, Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, and Linda Davis RD to learn more in depth about what I've talked about.
Extra tips:
An air fryer is going to change your life when it comes to cooking without oil and making stuff taste good and have a better texture! I use mine multiple times a day.
TOFU!!! I'm a soy addicts, and tofu is my favorite source of protein. There's so many ways to prepare it, too!
Berries are so nutrient dense and delicious-- nature's candy!
There's honestly nothing wrong with protein powder even though it's processed. Just be sure to opt for vegan protein powder so you aren't loading your body with whey.
Stevia is a godlike sweetener, imo.
Eat a wide variety of different plants to diversify your gut microbiome and to get a variety of vitamins and minerals!
Take care of yourselves :') 💚🌿 I may add to this post as more things pop in my head!
When I tell you it's so goddamn easy to do dishes when you don't cook with oil 😭
Don't drink alcohol... this is the most hypocritical thing I can say lmao but it will wreak havoc on your gut microbiome

AITA for cooking meth with my former chemistry student, killing two people, and lying to my family about it?
I (50M) was recently diagnosed with inoperable, likely fatal lung cancer. I work at a highschool as a chemistry teacher, but both the pay and the students are terrible. Case in point, my "lab partner" (24M) - who we'll call "Cap'n" because of course he'd insist on a stupid nickname like that - not only completely flunked my class, but then went on to skip college entirely and become a meth-addicted drug dealer instead.
Understandably, I was a little shaken after receiving my diagnosis. It came as a surprise since I've never smoked, I keep myself in relatively fair health, etc. (Recently my wife has taken to vegan bacon- apparently it helps lower cholesterol, but I digress.) I haven't told my family about the situation yet; I'm still trying to figure out how to "let the cat out of the bag", not to mention I doubt my wife will take it very well.
As for deciding to try cooking methamphetamine, well. I'm not really sure how to explain it, exactly, but there's a lot of money in it, money that would benefit my family, and I don't have much to lose anymore. This may sound cliche, but it's as though I'm really awake for the first time in my life.
Cap'n and I formed a partnership by circumstance only; I found out he was in "the business" and offered to either turn him into the DEA or work with me, and he naturally took the second option. He had no idea what he was doing on the chemistry side of things - chili powder in the meth! applying heat to an Erlenmeyer flask! no wonder I flunked him, he clearly learned nothing in my class - but does know the trade.
(Note: Don't buy all of your supplies from the same store.)
Sorry, I'm getting too far into the weeds here, let me skip ahead. We purchased a trailer and drove out to somewhere in the middle of the desert to cook without added attention or need for dramatic cleanup if we had to leave the area in a hurry. Our first batch was, according to Cap'n, "pure glass." After all of that complaining, I had cooked the finest product he'd ever seen on the first try! Goes to show paying attention in school does pay off, ahem. In case any of you were reading this and thinking of skipping off to go and make highly illegal substances and risk years in prison instead of doing your homework. You all still have your entire lives ahead of you. I don't.
After making it, the next logical course of action was to sell. Cap'n said he had some connections - I mean, he is a drug dealer, I saw no reason not to trust him (I now see how little sense that makes.) - and came back with two men with guns pointed at both of us. You must understand, it was a kill or be killed situation. These are the kind of people who don't care about morals, or what's right or ethical or kind. If they'd lived... not just me, but my wife, my son, and my entire family would all be in serious, mortal danger. I had no choice.
Cap'n by this point had been knocked out cold- still alive, but entirely unhelpful with the situation at hand. I was on my own. So I offered to show the goons how I made the "glass", surely they wanted to see how it was done? And they did- I still can't believe that actually worked. But, ah, instead of actually cooking anything, I gave them... let's call it a chemistry lesson. When significant heat is applied to red phosphorus - a key ingredient in Cap'n and I's "extracurricular science project" - it oxidizes. Your result is phosgene gas, highly deadly, hence the "killing two people." One... technically isn't dead yet- somehow he managed to survive, I still don't fully understand how, but I'm... I'm working on it. Cap'n still has yet to get rid of the first body, so... technically I'm not failing to withhold my share of the cleanup, since he hasn't done so with his.
I realize now this is very long, but I wanted to explain the context for my actions. However, a tl;dr for those who might be in a hurry: I was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, so with nothing else to lose decided to try to make some money for my family by cooking and selling methamphetamine. Coincidentally, a former student of mine was also in the business, and I convinced him to work with me. When we tried to put our product on the market, two people tried to kill us, so I acted in self-defense.
But I really, really must know... is what I did wrong? Should I have been content to live the rest of however-long-I-have-left working a miserable job as a public high school chemistry teacher instead? Should I have found a less fatal way of dealing with the two men who tried to kill me and my partner? AITA?
P.S. It's pretty late as I'm typing this so I might've made some errors in coherency or grammar, for which I apologize.

The kingdom of Fungal Life
When we think about the natural world, our minds often gravitate towards lush forests, vibrant flowers, and majestic animals. However, lurking beneath the surface and often hidden from plain sight is a kingdom of life that is as essential as it is mysterious: fungi. These remarkable organisms play a crucial role in the ecosystem, contributing to processes that sustain life on Earth. Let’s delve into the captivating world of fungi and explore their diverse and critical roles in nature.
Fungi belong to their own kingdom, separate from plants, animals, and bacteria. This diverse group includes yeasts, molds, and mushrooms. Unlike plants, fungi do not perform photosynthesis; instead, they obtain nutrients through absorption. They secrete enzymes that break down complex organic matter into simpler compounds, which they then absorb. This mode of nutrition classifies them as saprophytes (decomposers), parasites, or mutualists.
One of the most vital roles fungi play in nature is that of decomposers. They break down dead organic material, such as fallen leaves, dead trees, and animal carcasses. This decomposition process is crucial for nutrient cycling, as it releases essential elements like carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus back into the soil, making them available for plants and other organisms. Without fungi, these nutrients would remain locked in dead matter, disrupting the balance of ecosystems.
Many fungi form symbiotic relationships with plants through structures known as mycorrhizae. These fungi colonize plant roots, extending far into the soil and increasing the surface area for water and nutrient absorption. In return, the fungi receive carbohydrates produced by the plant through photosynthesis. This mutualistic relationship enhances plant growth, resilience to stress, and nutrient uptake, illustrating a remarkable example of cooperation in nature.
While many fungi play beneficial roles, some can be pathogenic, causing diseases in plants, animals, and humans. For instance, the fungus Ophiocordyceps infects ants and other insects, eventually controlling their behavior to facilitate spore dispersal. In plants, fungi can cause devastating diseases like rusts, smuts, and blights, affecting crops and natural vegetation. Understanding these pathogenic interactions is crucial for managing agricultural health and preserving natural ecosystems.
Beyond their ecological roles, fungi have significant applications in medicine and biotechnology. The discovery of penicillin, derived from the mold Penicillium, revolutionized medicine by providing the first effective antibiotic. Fungi also produce other medically important compounds, such as immunosuppressants and cholesterol-lowering drugs. In biotechnology, fungi are used in processes ranging from fermentation in food production to the breakdown of pollutants in bioremediation.
Fungi exhibit a stunning variety of forms and colors, particularly noticeable in mushrooms and molds. From the luminescent glow of bioluminescent fungi to the intricate patterns of mushroom caps, fungi contribute to the aesthetic diversity of nature. Some fungi even exhibit bizarre and fascinating behaviors, such as the slime molds that can navigate mazes or the cordyceps fungi that create “zombie” insects.

A/N: A little taste for you guys! I am very excited at this new idea, especially because I am co-writing this with the actual love of my life @serenaxpedro!!!
So excited to see where it will go and excited to see our grumpy old peepaw finally kick back and relax with some alternate pain management methods. He's not gonna be happy about it at first, but it's going to turn out so good 🤓. Moodboard art also by @serenaxpedro (please go check out her delicious writing as well, she's got some YUMMY Joel fic's posted 🫠)
sneak peak under the cut, feel free to comment or reblog if you want more!
“The side effects from an over the counter painkiller could spike your cholesterol even higher, which is what we do not want,” the doctor continues, unaware of Joel’s steadily boiling frustration. “Which is why I wanted to suggest an alternate method for pain management, something more natural.”
For fucks sake.
He thought this would be a simple appointment. Show up, get a new prescription for whatever magic pills can help this pain in his back to dissipate, and go home. Not look into ‘alternative methods’ that undoubtedly wouldn’t work.
Joel’s gaze narrows and he huffs, leaning back in his seat. “Natural? Like what, seeing one of those hokey practitioners that read your energies and use natural herb remedies and all that crap?”
“Not quite that per say but it is natural medicine. Medical marijuana to be exact.”
Joel’s mouth goes dry as his jaw hangs open. Weed? Nope. Not the solution he was looking for.
Maybe what he should be on the market for is a new doctor at this point.
“Uh listen, I appreciate the suggestion doc, but I don’t think that’s gonna help me at this point. I don’t do that kinda stuff,” he waves his hand dismissively. “If it gets to that point I’ll crack open a beer.” Joel leans forward in his seat and he starts to get up.
“Just a second, hold on. At least let me write you a prescription for it today and you can choose whether or not you want to get it filled at a dispensary.”
“I don’t think-” Joel continues to protest but the doctor cuts him off.
“It’s medicinal marijuana Joel,” the doctor says plainly, as if that’s supposed to calm his nerves. “It has opiate-like properties, which means it’s similar to a pain killer, just without all the usual side effects that come with over the counter medicine. Lots of individuals, older and younger,” the doctor pointedly emphasizes, “use it to help with aches, pain, anxiety, even mental health issues. Not just the physical.”
Joel continues to eye the doctor warily, his spine now stiff as he sits up in the chair. Even now, he can feel his body protesting his upright position, the inkling of that pinched phantom pain coming back slightly.
“Does it get you high?” he asks the older man.
Aside from the stories he’s heard, he’s had his fair share of buddies who used to toke up back in the day. Hell, they didn’t even know what was in it back then, they just smoked as a distraction, something fun to do, to take the edge off after a long day's work. Joel tried it once and didn’t like it at all. The hazy, fuzzy feeling not mixing well with his frayed nerves, all glassy eyed and out of touch with his body and his mind. No, he would much rather crack open a beer or pour himself a whiskey neat to kick back and relax when he was stressed.
“Not necessarily, some strains, or some kinds of weed have a higher content of THC, tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive component that makes you feel high or ‘out of it,”’ the doctor explains with finger quotes. “Some medicinal marijuana are low in THC but high in CBD, the relaxing component of marijuana. CBD acts as a relaxer, and it can ease physical pain. So depending on what you’re comfortable with, you can opt for the kinds that have a high CBD but low THC content, which will help with any pain issues, without causing you to experience the high.”
Joel’s mind whirls around the acronyms. THC, CBD, ABC.
Christ.
Does it have to be this fucking complicated?
