Take your time! No pressure for anything, writing should be for fun!
🛋️
@couchanon & @rendy-a
Y’all are so sweet. I love writing I’ve just been working 10 hour days. I was lucky enough to be able to spend time with friends on Halloweekend and I had a great time!
Because I had fun here’s movie reccs based on my Halloween marathon with friends:
Phantom of the Mall (silly 80s phantom of the opera adaptation with a surprising amount of boobies)
Tenebre (Italian artsy horror film with decent cinematography but an incomprehensible plot in a lot of ways)
A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (GORGEOUS Iranian vampire movie in black and white with great actor performances. We were all distracted by how cute the fat cat in it was; the cat lives happily and is safe even though it is a horror movie lmao. This is the one actual unironically good movie in this list)
Return of the Living Dead (classic camp, a lot of boobies tho… so many boobies. The effects vary a lot between amazing and terrible but man it’s funny)

Okay.
Anyone that likes disaster movies, that has nt seen the movie "twister", needs to watch it immediately.
This movie is the perfect example of how to use cgi properly--
So sparingly and with the perfect, light touch, with mostly practical effects so it's absolutely terrifying realistic.
This movie scarred me for life as like, a five year old, so it's gratifying to watch it as an adult and see it's extremely well-made, well-written, and absolutely terrifying, while also bringing awareness to the dangers of these natural disasters and the importance of funding research into studying them !

good day to you <3 time to drop your fav thrillers right here ⬇️
Have you infiltrated my gc??? I was literally just talking to them about how I rlly enjoy thrillers but still haven’t watched many cos I always need to someone to run commentary with. So id like some reccs from you too.
If we’re talking psychological thrillers then obvs Black Swan is up there and I’ve heard Midsommar is pretty disturbing too.
Others include V for Vendetta that I just love so fucking much (could be the nostalgia speaking but I loved it) and that one with Robert Partinson and Tom Holland, The Devil All the Time; v nice murder and sleazy pastors. I also recommend Rebecca although the book gripped me more.
In shows i definitely definitely recc Hannibal. Succchhhhh a good thriller holy fuck.

BAD THINGS (2023)
On the one hand, it'd be reductive to call Bad Things (2023) The Shining with lesbians. On the other hand, it's not not that - it wears its inspirations on its sleeve and there are callbacks to the movie version of King's work all over the place. Honestly, it'd be more apt to say that the movie is a copyright-safe remake.
So is it as thrilling as The Shining? No, not really. It has some great scenery and some good tension building in its camera work, but the scares never reliably build into anything substantial, and the camerawork likewise never builds to any interesting reveals or pictures. Once you've seen the first 15 minutes you've sort of seen most of it.
It does have a ton of interpersonal drama and conflict, the way only a group of four queer people who all dated in various configurations can. If you love drama, this is the movie for you.
It does have things going for it even if it's not particularly scary. The cast is all excellent, with great performances all around. Hari Nef (dressed and styled very much like Shelley Duval in The Shining) is great, and seeing her cry hurts as much as seeing caged puppies in an ASPCA commercial, it should be illegal to show anything that heart-wrenching. And Gayle Rankin as Ruthie does a great job embodying a character who carries a lot of trauma and ends up making bad decisions because of it. You empathize with her while at the same time going girl, come on, don't do that.
The music was maybe my least favorite part of the work - a few tracks felt like they repeated a bit too much, and there was once track that specifically played when anything spooky was about to start - as the track itself was not very scary, it ended up detracting from scares rather than enhancing them.
(Guess who's dead in this scene - the answer may surprise you. Or not, if you've seen The Shining.)
My final verdict - maybe don't pay for it like I did, but check it out if you like horror. Interesting take on The Shining, and I really really want to see all this cast and crew keep working in the genre in the future.

I've heard some people say to "just watch shows without sex" and that kind of stuff, but never any actual suggestions. and while I do think it should be allowed to show love, sexual, romantic and otherwise, I do have the impression 99% of media that isn't made for 7 year olds has romance, crushing and/or sex and even some of the stuff made for 7 year olds has it. especially if you count any romantic relationship shown or married people, but even if you ignore that.
do people have any recommendations of media (especially TV series) WITHOUT any sex, romance and crushing? (ideally without partnerships shown, but idk if that exists)
I haven't yet found anything that's in any physical store or library or streaming service, only Amazon books (I'm not getting something in the mail from outside my country the tax for that is like 100%).
