peeta and the rebellion, with even more nuance (:
post continued from @posthungergamessyndrome; their post here
In The Games training , Peeta preferred to hang around the Camouflage, & it ultimately became his saving grace in Book I. Creativity, to most tributes, doesn't compare higher than physical prowess in significance. In Catching Fire, we see the D6 Morplings go to Camo first.
Peeta Mellark allows himself to be known as Loverboy to almost everyone in the 74th arena, which is him defining himself by emotion. Mostly because that’s what Careers, who D12 tributes hardly ever team up with, called him
Peeta decided to kill himself, even before the Nightlock idea, because he refuses to die at the hands of the Capitol. He seriously felt remorse after killing Foxface & had Katniss explain it to him. Killing others wasn't supposed to be something these tributes felt accountability & care about. "...wanted to hold them accountable, if only for a moment... For killing that little girl. (CF; 238)
Yes, Katniss says to eat the berries on 3, though it's Peeta Mellark who tells her to out-stretch her hands so "...everyone can see." (THG; pg. 338).
Peeta refuses to hold a knife when he could hold a paintbrush. (Katniss replies to Haymitch that 'if he wanted babying, then should've asked Peeta.' His fellow Games Victor called him soft & he just offers her bread [again]). Even in the actual war, he felt so hurt when he killed others.
He has a vivid memory for the horrors of The 74th Hunger Games, to the point where Katniss says she "hates" his paintings. He’s not even offended he just lets her hate on them because they are gruesome.
He always looks out of windows at other people [Katniss on the bakery lawn], places {districts while on tour] as well as the Capitol. He also takes people's baked goods home to evaluate. And doesn't stop.
He also sees the elder from D11 get shot in the head & doesn’t let himself be touched by Peacekeepers after he said he & Katniss would feed Rue & Thresh's families.
Peeta refuses—so vehemently—to drink the beverage to purge his meals. He tells Katniss that maybe they shouldn't squash the Rebellion.
He is the second person to volunteer in years in D12, & at all & he, too earns the highest rating in the Quarter Quell. Before the Mockingjay ever existed, the mockingbird & Jabberjay had to meet. If Katniss is the Mockingjay, Peeta embodies both qualities of both birds individually. Peeta is wholly himself, at his best. When the Panem screams conformity, Peeta doubles on individualism.

on your post about how destiny actually works in ever after i wanted to share some of my thoughts!!!
firstly, (ive had this one in my mind since i watched the show as a kid) they introduce the characters as "abc, daughter/son of xyz" and their stories are continued through the generations, so, for some, wouldn't their forever after partner's parent, be their parent too??? like okay there's apple white, daughter of snow white and daring charming, son of king charming LIKE HOW DOES THAT WORK???? when snow white was fulfilling her destiny wasn't it king charming that woke her up???? like how does that work
also, it's only daring and apple who are (at first) set for each other, everyone knows daring will wake apple from her sleep but the rest of the princesses don't have their princes what about briar? ashlynn?
then, it seems only the first born has to follow in their parents' fairytale footsteps like in the case of holly and poppy so what do the younger siblings do? what's their destiny like dexter charming, he had a page in the book of legends but had no story to go with it
this is a lot but im really awestruck with how destiny is such a fickle thing, apparently your destiny can be taken away from you just by signing in the book of legends, it's not even confirmed i suppose, it can change like how daring ended up with rosabella and not apple, etc etc
destiny in ever after high has so much untapped potential i love rotating it in my mind so thank you so much for this ask!
first off, eah has confirmed that there are four unrelated charming clans from which fairytales draw their sundry heroes so it's logical to assume that all current kings charming serving as their famous fairytale wives' arm candy come from different clans as the princes charming slated for their daughters' destinies. briar's prince i always assumed to be unknown due to the fact that she won't meet him in another hundred years. apple's prince being determined from the beginning i've always chalked up to the snow white tale being so important that grimm, snow and co. all felt the need to lock the details down as early as possible. pair the most eligible princess in the land with the most eligible prince in the land and chain their destinies together before fate gets other ideas and all that.
also YES, the birth order aspect of fairytale inheritance itches at my brain soooo hard. does the destiny go only down the line of the eldest? if the protagonists of the tale are siblings, are the next protagonists their respective firstborns and thus cousins? or does the destiny lineage go to whoever in the birth order has the most important role? can you be chosen randomly for a tale that wasn't in your family? and it's made even more confusing bc eah canon says "both! all! yes!" the rapunzel destiny falls to the eldest twin. the current hansel and gretel destiny falls to cousins. the dancing princess destiny goes all the way down the line of the youngest daughter. the charmings are all expected to fill in as either heroes or damsels for whatever tale needs them. it's WILD.
my personal interpretation is that just to cover all the bases, grimm keeps the school open to all descendants of the major players until they know for certain who destiny has the most affinity with. case in point: justine dancer only being confirmed as the twelfth princess when she started sleepdancing in the webisodes despite all eleven of her older sisters having been chosen beforehand. it makes one wonder if there's a method to knowing which sister needs to have the full dozen (the eldest? the youngest?) or if ALL the madames try to get all the way to twelve Just In Case. could you imagine the family gatherings? hell.
(i love thinking of the dancing princess eldritch nightmare family orchard. one of my eah ocs is the seventh daughter of the seventh dancing princess who's only here bc it would have looked unsporting if nobody from their branch came, despite all signs pointing to justine, and she didn't really have alternative plans. she's just chilling. at least until miss mabinogion crashes into her life and she finds herself playing co-conspirator to a certain flower-faced adulteress's Operation Goodbye Earl.)
i think bc of the sleepdancing there's a lot of flexibility in the line-up of the twelve princesses, so they can be siblings down the line of whoever married the soldier, or they can be firstborn cousins, or they can be first daughter of the first daughter, second daughter of the second, etc. etc. no matter how hard grimm et al. try to hammer down destiny, every retelling still finds a way to veer off the rails. so every contradictory version of every fairytale you've ever heard? probably happened at one point. it was never gonna be science.
another thing i'm really interested in are destinies where the protagonist has to become their child's villain. you ever think about how the juniper tree cycle would necessitate the butchered child eaten by their father to become the parent that eats their child? eah never went that hard but i can. i will. (miss juniper tree rounds out my eah oc roster and she is appropriately furious about it.) cyclical destinies where happy endings don't mean jack are sooo good.
also yes!! that whole thing where destiny doesn't even play by the rules of the people who try to corral it (darling is apple's prince, daring is the beast, raven is one of the seven dwarves, etc. etc.) even when the Book is in play is just !!!!!!! really makes it feel like destiny is a much larger and more powerful force than anybody can really reckon with.

me and @hellqueensimp are writing a rp about Lilith and Lucifer, their meeting, their fall, the origins of Hell, be birth of Charlie and a whole bunch of other stuffs and I'm posting the first bit of it here to gauge if anyone would be interested in reading it if we posted it as a fic on a03?
*gulps*
here goes nothing
Glittering rays of golden light beamed through the cloud barrier as a trio of winged figures raced through the stratosphere, their laughter innocent and mirthful. The eldest, Michael, was in the lead, speeding ahead but simultaneously keeping a watchful eye on his two younger brothers, Lucifer and Gabriel, who were following close behind. All of them sported hair the same shade of soft yellow starlight, but their eyes were differently hued. Michael's sharp orbs were green as a freshly spun galaxy, and Gabriel's were a warm earthy brown, comforting and homey. Lucifer's, however, were a piercing blue, the same color as the sky, and his features, angular in some places and smooth in others, were placed so carefully as to make him the most lovely of them all, and it was evident for all of Heaven to see.
Those features were currently curved into a bit of a sly grin as he used Michael's distractedness to surpass him in the race, winning by a nose. Gabriel giggled and Michael groaned. "Hah!" Lucifer shouted triumphantly and spun Gabriel around as the littlest angel approached him, causing the boy to laugh once more. "How do you like that, Mike?"
Michael rolled his eyes in a good-natured sort of way. "All right, all right, you bested me."
"As I often do," Lucifer sniggered back, causing Michael to frown. "Don't boast, Luci, it's unbecoming." Lucifer fought the urge to roll his eyes, and he was about to retort that Michael was a bit of a hypocrite since he was so braggy much of the time, but he was prevented from doing so by Gabe's sudden shrieks of delight.
The two older angels flew over to see what he was reacting so happily to, when all of a sudden they were blasted with cold air and a flurry of tiny, white specks began falling around them. Lucifer held his hand out to catch one and it melted in his palm. Fascinated, he caught another, trying in vain to study its intricate features before it faded out of existence. "What is this?" he inquired. Michael, ever knowledgable, replied, "It's called snow; a new invention of Father's. He came up with it this morning."
"I *love* it!" Gabe shouted, causing Lucifer's eyes to soften. "Oh yeah, squirt? Well, what say you we see where it's headed?" He looked down into the depths below, and this elicited another frown from Michael. "What?" Lucifer asked upon seeing it. "Are we not supposed to go down there or something?" There was a hint of rebellious sarcasm in his voice that Michael didn't like. "I...don't believe there's any rules against it," he began to say in a carefully measured tone. "But--"
But his brothers were already off, plummeting downwards in an elegant series of aerial spirals, eager to see what lay beneath. Hesitantly, Michael followed.
Of course they had heard about earth, and seen glimpses of it when Father allowed them to do so, but it was still a great mystery to most of Heaven. Many of the angels didn't seem to care that much, content to keep their heads in the clouds so to speak, but Lucifer tended to always be curious, and Gabriel was both easily delighted and eager to follow Lucifer into anything, so Michael caught up with them, dutiful as ever, determined to keep them out of trouble.
Earth was, of course, nothing like Heaven and yet somehow even more beautiful in Lucifer's opinion. There were new colors and creatures and landscapes here, all of Father's gorgeous and miraculous creations, and so much *potential.* Lucifer's sharp mind was already brimming with ideas about how they could improve upon them, hasten them along, etc.
After sightseeing for a bit, Michael grabbed their arms. "All right, that's enough for today. Let's go back." Lucifer didn't want to, but he could tell by the look on Michael's face that he had pushed him enough for today so he begrudgingly held his tongue.
As the other two ascended, Lucifer paused, listening. He'd thought he'd heard another voice somewhere, a distinctly feminine voice. Had he imagined it? He waited, but heard nothing, so he began to fly upwards once more, only for his ears to stop him again. There it was. He knew he heard it this time: as clear as day: "Stop!"
He hesitated for a brief moment, turning his attention skyward. Michael and Gabriel were tiny specks; they hadn't seemed to notice he was no longer with them. He bit his lip, his wings beating the air for a few moments as he deliberated. "Just a quick look, and then I'll go back. No harm in that, right?" He spun downwards easily, his wings carrying him towards the source of the sound.
In a lush meadow, by a very noisy waterfall, a woman sat by the water's edge, her head in her hands, her long, golden hair wrapping round her voluptuous form. Lucifer's heart skipped and he stopped in his tracks, floating there for a moment before he ducked behind a large tree, peeking out from around the trunk to study her. He frowned; she looked sad. Why? Something inside him needed desperately to know and so he watched, waiting to see if he could glean any information by doing so.

“The Southern Raiders is a perfect example of why Zutara doesn’t work." (OP commentary available).
reddit post here. fire heats up water; water calms fire.
Zuko allows Katara to choose what she wants, & ultimately K elects not to murder Yon Rha. a significant concept in all 3 stories in this series—as a whole—& individual characters is choices. Z keeps K grounded in a manner Aang can’t.
whether they consciously acknowledge that or not, Z’s family is what happens when you let revenge consume. going on this field trip is crucial for both of them in becoming different people. i doubt K saw the advantage of taking anyone else. without K confronting The Southern Raiders, i doubt the message of “being different than your current self is always one action away” is something Z truly believed.
Aang is The Avatar; it is really difficult to separate him from that; he wouldn’t let go of K with Guru Patik. the idea of revenge is so unlikely for A as an Airbender, & Avatar. keep in mind that A “slept” on his duty for centuries; he was a kid, afraid & unprepared for wars. Z & K aren’t. it’s hard not to hear command when A spoke.
now, you could argue that Z would have gotten an education of world with Toph or Sokka but both are unlikely. Toph, an expert fighter, was sheltered otherwise & blind. Sokka is a non-bender.
this essay could continue. let me know if that's something you'd be interested in.

Old Artwork!
(cw: blood) old Loki fanart (fem!) back from 2021. This is still one of my favourite pieces I've ever done.
Coloured pencil & ink. Some details are lost in the photo because i put packaging tape over it so it would smudge (i've had SERIOUS smudging problems)
