I still remember the day when I accidentally saw the spoiler and people were like "oh, but it was without a context, we have to wait for it!" and it made me truly curious and excited to see what the whole scene was about

And let me tell you it turns out I was perfectly happy not knowing what it was about

(But you know, curiosity killed the cat. And I loved this scene, it was positively heartbreaking, angst in its truest form. Exactly opossite to what I expected to happen knowing this season was supposed to be quiet and gentle and romantic, really.)

Damian and Tim are trapped together in a cave system.

That itself wouldn’t be too bad (or too out of the ordinary) if Damian hadn’t been injured in the initial collapse.

Now he’s alone, with their comms transmitting and receiving nothing, with the pretender he’d been trying to kill on several occasion.

And Damian is only all too aware that grandfather’s “favorite detective” would have every right to kill him in retaliation. And the perfect opportunity to get away with it.

for those who aren’t aware, in the saw iv director’s commentary darren lynn bousman and lyriq bent share not only that they’re disappointed by the ending of saw iv, but they had pitched an alternate ending that would have been way smarter and better than what we got and it goes like this:

LYRIQ: Yeah, we fought for a different ending where uhm, you saw that Detective Rigg was starting to understand what his test was all about. [...] DARREN: We've seen in Saw, time and time again how people fail their tests. What if someone succeeded? What if Rigg did not open the door? What if he actually learned from his lesson, learned that the only way to save Detective Matthews was not to open the door? So I thought of this idea as we were shooting the movie as--what if he gets to the door and doesn't open it? [...] Rigg got to the door and didn't open it. He fell to the ground and broke down. LYRIQ: Well, he fell to the ground simply because he witnesses Detective Matthews' head splatter. Which would be, like, crushing, because for the last year basically, for the last six months he's been searching for his friend only to find him to watch him die. DARREN: Yeah. Basically, knowing that if Detective Matthews has to save himself, he can't save him. LYRIQ: And if I try to save him, I'm gonna end up, you know, dead, so He has to watch him die, and so he does. DARREN: So, what was gonna happen was gonna be that to still keep that Saw "fuck you" kind of ending, he would have seen Detective Matthews die. He stays there, does not open the door, Hoffman stands up, comes outside, leans down, whispers something to Rigg, Rigg just kind of blown away. His jaw drops, he watched Detective Hoffman walk away, and he stands up— LYRIQ: We cut back to Strahm— DARREN: Yeah, Strahm, and Strahm's running around eventually Hoffman, no, sorry, Lieutenant Rigg turns a corner, and Strahm's there, sees Rigg with his gun, and shoots Rigg. Bam! Bam bam bam bam! LYRIQ: It was—Strahm runs up to him, says, "Freeze!" I turn around— DARREN: Yeah, with the gun in hand— LYRIQ: And he shoots me. DARREN: And it would have ended right there.
