You know what would be cute as hell?
✨ An Irondad spinoff writing exchange ✨
Like, hear me out!
There are so many great fics out there! And there are lots of great writing exchanges already, I know. We have mix-ups and pirates and rewrites, but ... here's the thing,
For so many fics, I really just want to know what happens next!
Like, sure the story is finished and it wouldn't make sense for that fic to keep going. But why can't we have a spinoff fic based in that world? A fic of a fic, if you will?
I think it would be super cute if we could like, cobble together a list of fics that absolutely deserve a spinoff and y'all could pick straws and do your writing magic.
Just a few extra scenes from a different writer, letting us linger in the OG writer's creative world a bit more. Not quite canon to the OG fic but also not not canon. A spinoff. 🎤💥

Hi! Can you recommend some of your favourite pepperony fics feat. one pseudo spideyson ?😁❤️
Ohhh, twist my arm if you must. 😏 You know you came to the right girl, so I'll try my best while admitting some are more technically fitting the concept versus being Pepperony/Ironparents-to-Peter centric the whole time. I’m picky about fic, so the list isn’t as long as I wish it was. If you have more fics to rec in this area, feel free to reblog and add them!
You’re probably here because you’ve read my fic, which is just me writing all of the Pepperony + Peter into the world that I want, but if you haven’t read my stuff…I have it in spades. ☺️

In this one, we’re ignoring canon and having fun picturing a future where Peter’s about to go off to college, and hanging out with Peter for a weekend makes Tony realize that he and Pepper are actually pretty interested in having kids. It’s good and soft and healthy about couples therapy stuff with Tony and Pepper and I love it.

Not exactly news that this series is amazing, but it was one of the first Tony/Pepper-as-Peter's-bioparents fics I'd ever read in the fandom (honestly one of the first SERIES I'd read in the fandom) and will always have a special place in my heart.

Probably also incredibly well known in the fandom, but a favorite of mine for always. The way this fic/series deals with so much and gets every part right will never cease to amaze me, particularly on the Peter and Pepper front. The way they're allowed to grieve and grow and become family in the first fic alone...*chef's kiss*
the gift of you (series) by MayWilder
Specifically boundaries of myself and epilogue are Pepper-Peter centric, but the whole series does a great job at establishing a closeness between the Starks and Parkers, and in doing so how they end up so close when Peter needs a guardian after May passes. (I'll admit I'm not a huge Parkner shipper, so I mostly read the gen fics in this series, but if that ship is your thing, that's an added bonus later!)
From the Mixed-Up Files of Ms. Virginia "Pepper" Potts by sturionic
I highly recommend the series that this is in as a whole—it’s funny and sweet until it gets angsty too, and it’s all a good read! But particularly I love this fic because there’s so much casual intimacy as the Starks and both Parkers grow into family, and even short scenes feel very alive and warm by being so descriptive.

Tony is Peter’s single dad and Pepper is his teacher, a fluffy trope that always hits perfectly written by an author I love. (Keep an eye out for their latest fic, which I predict will be incredible and is in the Pepperony + Peter vein.)

Peter is sick while under Tony’s care. Tony anxiously calls Pepper about how to handle it. He realizes he kind of likes this whole parental thing.
In the merry month of June (series) by Gruoch
I'm going to say this counts because Grandparents Pepperony gets me the softest. Pepper's here and wonderfully written and obviously adores Peter growing up and giving them a new baby to fawn over as much as Tony does. Pepper isn't a main focus here but rather part of the whole Stark-Parker-Jones family focus that's so, so present and adorable.

This fic is really about Peter in the Stark family as a whole, but it's so REAL and interesting in interpreting the future of that family dynamic--family dinners with Drama™️, sibling dynamics, Tony and Pepper growing old as the parents of said siblings...once again including on a technicality but I love it so much!!!
Thank you for the ask!!! I love making a nice rec list! I would also suggest looking at the other works of some of these authors—there’s definitely more Pepper buried in their other fics that I may have forgotten or just felt didn’t qualify for this list in particular!

been on a for-your-own-good imposed exile from my phone & social media since Friday, so what’s a gal gonna do except eat pizza, reread The Inheritance Cycle, and finish old fic drafts?
I humbly present: Peter can’t sleep, but Tony’s a father now, and he’s got a few tricks up his sleeve.

Peter was okay.
He was. That wasn’t even him being self-sacrificing (like May thought) or deferring some kind of PTSD (like Tony thought) or anything. Most of the time, he was totally, completely, undeniably okay.
As a general rule, he just didn’t think about Thanos. He was too busy for that, with planning for his school’s Europe trip and patrolling and learning how to be a big brother to Morgan and resettling a whole apartment with May and rediscovering the absolute thrill of being alive along with the other fifty percent.
He had a good life, and considering everything that had happened, he was so, so lucky.
So, Peter was okay. Despite what Tony and May seemed to think.
He only ever had problems when the sun fell.
Vigilante by day, anxious wreck by night, he thought, more than a little bitter.
There was a bone-aching frustration that came with insomnia. He couldn’t sleep, but he was tired. God, he was so, so tired. His eyelids creaked, his face was tight and worn. Every inch of him was screaming for rest.
And yet, well, here he was: awake, staring at the ceiling, mind swirling down the inescapable drain of death throes and battle heat and the memory of his DNA vibrating apart.
He clenched his fists, then slowly pried them apart. His wrists hurt, yet his webshooters were comfortingly cool on his bare skin.
“Mister Parker,” F.R.I.D.A.Y. suddenly said, and Peter still jumped despite the fact her volume had been lowered and pitched into her softer night mode. “I apologize for the intrusion, but per my protocols, I am to alert Boss if you or Morgan are awake for longer than thirty minutes from the hours of 11:00 pm to 6:00 am. I thought it was only fair to warn you that he is en route to your bedroom and you should be prepared for his arrival.”
There was a time when an alert like that would’ve filled him with annoyance. A time when he would’ve met Tony at the door with a sharp reminder of, I’m almost an adult, I can take care of myself, on his tongue. Now, though, he just felt a dull splash of surprise.
“Mister Stark has rules for if I’m awake?” He asked the ceiling, blinking slowly at the smooth molding. It was different than the popcorn texture in his apartment. Probably easier to deal with when it came to painting.
As if on cue, his door swung open. A soft, yellowish bar of light flashed over his sheets and then collapsed in on itself with a distant click. Huh. So Tony thought that this needed to be a private conversation.
“It’s called the Cradle Protocol,” Tony offered, and despite the fact that Peter hadn’t actually looked in his direction yet, he could hear the man’s smile in the warmth of the words, like curling into a fireside on a winter’s day. “You know, in case you were wondering.”
“I wasn’t.”
“Oh? Thought you spent most of your life wondering about pretty much everything.” His bedframe creaked as Tony settled down near his hip, and suddenly Peter didn’t have much of a choice but to stare up at the man, taking in the burn scars on his face and the gray in his hair and the quiet love in his eyes. “That’s what kids are best at.”
“I’m not really a kid anymore,” he whispered, but not a single inch of the words felt defiant. God, he wanted to be a kid again. He looked back on the moments he’d spent racing to adulthood and wanted to cry. Wanted desperately to hit rewind on all of it.
“All of us are kids, in the end,” Tony said, like it was the easiest thing in the world. “And you’ll be my kid forever. Sorry. No exchanges or returns on that policy. It is how it is.”
Tony’s thumb brushed soothingly over his cheek as he spoke, and the contact was rough and calloused and so intensely familiar that Peter let his eyes squeeze shut against it, swallowing hard.
“I don’t want to exchange it,” he whispered, and somehow he felt a little ashamed to admit it. Like he was rearing up against the order of things. Or, like he was admitting the truth in a space where untruths were expected.
There was a pause. Peter blinked his eyes open again, and saw that Tony’s gaze had drifted away from him. He was looking up at the headboard, soft curves of sadness mellowing his face.
Finally, he breathed, eyes tracing their way back to Peter’s own, gentle yet intense.
“Why aren’t you asleep, Peter?”
It was a redundant thing to ask, and both of them knew it. There wasn’t a person in the world who couldn’t guess the why of that question. There were probably a million different people all around the world staring up at a million different ceilings, all cold-eyed and shivering because of the same goddamn reason.
“I don’t know,” he lied.
Was it still lying if everyone knew that what you were going to say was a lie before it even left your mouth?
Tony just nodded, like those three words had told him everything that he’d needed to know. For all Peter could figure, maybe they had.
“Alright.” Tony patted his thigh through the blankets, then stood. “C’mon. Get up.”
It probably said a lot about him, or maybe more about his relationship with Tony, that he was already climbing out of bed even as he muttered a halfhearted, “where’re we going?”
“On a mission,” Tony said, gently tugging one of Peter’s oldest and softest hoodies out of his closet and pushing it against his chest. “Put this on.”
He did as he was told, tottering lazily into the hallway, too exhausted to do anything but follow.
“What’s the mission?”
Tony glanced back just long enough for Peter to see the corner of his mouth quirk up. “I need to put my baby to sleep.”
If he hadn’t been so goddamn tired, he would’ve picked up on the wryness in Tony’s voice. As it was, he blinked hard, brain whirring against the fogginess.
“‘S Morgan awake?”
The question startled a bark of laughter out of Tony. “God, Pete. I can’t believe you’re even managing to walk in a straight line right now.”
They were at the front door, now, and Tony snatched the car keys off of their hook in the entryway and ushered him into the cool night air. Cricket chirps swelled all around them. Peter let his eyes drift shut at the sound, then smiled when he felt Tony snag the edge of his sleeve, gently guiding him over the gravel.
“Ought to get this paved, huh?” Tony muttered, almost to himself, but Peter let the words fall over him anyway. “Would make life a hell of a lot easier when we got those summer monsoons. Plus, less of a tripping hazards for the kiddos, especially when they’re half asleep.”
“‘M awake,” he protested.
“I know,” Tony said, almost under his breath. “I’m working on it.”
Peter heard a beep as one of the cars unlocked, and he forced his eyes back open. They were standing in front of Tony and Pepper’s minivan, something which Peter still couldn’t quite wrap his head around. Tony Stark owned a minivan. Sure, it was a nice minivan, with leather seats and F.R.I.D.A.Y. installed and parking sensors, but it was still a minivan.
“C’mon,” Tony muttered, using the hand that wasn’t braced against Peter’s back to pull open the passenger’s side door. “Slide in.”
He let Tony manhandle him into the seat, even though he could’ve easily done it on his own. The exhaustion had stripped his stubbornness away. The only thing left was a yearning urge to be protected, cradled, loved.
It was good, he supposed, that those three roles seemed to be Tony’s favorites to fulfill.
Tony got into the driver’s seat, then double-checked Peter’s seatbelt twice before starting the car. He cracked the back windows, and the cricket chirps and nature swell mixed hypnotically with the buzz and hum of the engine. Peter closed his eyes and took a deep breath, turning his face in Tony’s direction when he felt the man’s eyes on him.
“You’re supposed to be looking where you’re drivin’,” he murmured, knowing that his smile was all drowsy and lopsided. He could feel them moving, though, so he wasn’t wrong.
“Nobody’s out this late.”
“Still need to stay on the road.”
“Oh, hush. I’ll take no driving smack from the child with a learner’s permit.”
He yawned. “Passed the test.”
“You sure did,” Tony murmured, pride warming the words. “I’ve got that picture that May took after hanging in my office.”
“I know.” A shard of longing pierced his chest. “Felt normal that day. Jus’ for a bit.”
He opened his eyes just in time to see guilt cascade over Tony’s face. Whoops. He really hasn’t meant to make his mentor sad. He was just loopy from all the sleepless nights, wading through the detachment weighing in his head. It was hard to stay conscious and keep his filter all at once.
“I’m so sorry, Peter,” Tony said, hands gripping the wheel so tight that his knuckles flashed white under the occasional streetlamp. “I wish I could take it all away.”
Peter just blinked. God, he was tired. His brain ached with it.
“You can’t.”
And Tony couldn’t. Peter knew that. Iron Man could do a lot of things, even survive the constriction of space, but he couldn’t void memories. Nobody could.
“No,” Tony admitted, and even through the fuzziness in his head, Peter found the wherewithal to be surprised, “but I can be here.”
Peter let his eyes drift shut again. Somehow, that was all the fixing that he needed Tony to do. I can be here.
That was it, wasn’t it? It was why the memories of Thanos rung so clear at night and pitched silent during the day. Because Peter hadn’t really been afraid of dying during the battles. He’d been terrified, horrified, by the thought of being left alone.
And at night, in his bedroom, walls and doors and locks between Tony or May or anybody else who would stave off the quiet, that fear was so much easier to taste.
He was so, so afraid that at the end of it all, he’d been irreversibly alone.
“Can you talk to me?” He whispered.
He just wanted words. Something substantive in the nothingness of night. And Tony was only ever speechless when there was something to be afraid of.
He’d... He’d been silent when Peter had died. Had been silent after he’d done the Snap, too. The look on the man’s face, the lack of speech in the haze, had rung in Peter’s nightmares ever since.
He could hear the roughness in Tony’s voice when he responded, and Peter couldn’t help but wonder if he was thinking about his silence on Titan, too. If he even remembered the stillness from the Compound’s dust.
“Of course, buddy.”
And he did. He talked about Rhodey and college and the first time he met Happy. Peter found himself drifting in and out as he rambled, although he never seemed to fully wrap his hand around true sleep. He’d nearly get there, Tony’s words fading into something he couldn’t quite comprehend, and then he’d recognize the shift and jolt himself out of it.
Somehow, it was even more frustrating than what he’d been doing before. At least then, he’d known he wasn’t going to get any sleep. Here, it kept dangling in front of him. And to make it worse, every aborted attempt at sleep felt like a failure. Like he’d screwed it all up, despite all the effort Tony was putting into helping him.
“Sorry,” Peter suddenly muttered, blinking away his most recent near-rest. Tony fell silent. “Sorry, sorry.”
“Shh, Pete,” Tony soothed, right hand abandoning the steering wheel and settling on his arm. “It’s not your fault. We’ll get there.”
“‘M trying.”
“I know you are. You’re doing great.”
For a breath, Tony just rubbed Peter’s arm, breath and nature filling the car.
“I used to do this for Morgan, you know,” he finally said, voice low. “Learned it within the first month. Think I must’ve put a thousand miles on the car, driving around just for some precious minutes of peace.”
“Ben used to drive me around when I was little,” Peter mumbled, twisting until he found a comfortable position: draped over the center console, head just inches away from Tony’s elbow. The console was leather and padded, which made it a surprisingly good pillow. Plus, he was close enough to pick up the steady thrumming of Tony’s heartbeat. “I didn’t like sleeping after my parents died. Car always worked, though. Dunno why.”
Tony’s hand settled on the top of his head, and a swoosh of comfort whisked from that one point all the way down to his toes. “It’s the vibrations from the engine. Low frequencies make us tired. It mimics the sensation of being rocked to sleep.”
He smiled. Trust Mister Stark to turn anything into a physics lesson. “‘S science,” he muttered.
Tony’s thumb swiped over his temple. “It’s science,” he repeated. “Do you want another story?”
Hmm. Yes. And he wanted Tony’s hand to stay right there, too. The tips of his fingers kept brushing over the nape of his neck, and the pattern was nice. Slow. The kind of monotony that was so easy to get lost in.
“Mm.”
“How about a special one?”
“Mm.”
“Well, since you asked so nicely,” Tony said, laughter in the words. He sounded pleased, though. Peter was too busy falling asleep to figure out why. “Y’know, I never went to Queens much when I was a kid. Howard wasn’t a big fan. And then I didn’t have much of a reason to go once I was an adult. Everything I needed was in Manhattan or Malibu. Point is: imagine how surprised I was when a web-slinging vigilante actually forced me out there…”
Peter drifted off long before he could recognize that the story was about him.

Peter half-surfaced to the quiet thud of a car door opening, and the crunch of shoes on gravel.
It wasn’t the usual way he woke up. He’d gotten used to jolting into consciousness, sweat slicking his trembling limbs and damp sheets snarling all around him. It was a violent thing, full of heartbeat and rib-ache.
But this was soft. Warm. Safe hands slid under the back of his neck, his seat tilting back until he was lying almost completely flat. On instinct, his eyes flickered open, and he grinned sleepily at Tony, who shushed him in a barely-there murmur.
“Nice and easy, Pete,” Tony said, voice warm and safe and already blurring. “Now be a good boy and go back to sleep.”
And for once in Peter’s life, it was as simple as that.

31. “I haven’t slept in ages.”
When Tony wakes up from a fitful sleep, the clock reads 2:57AM. He rolls over and sighs when he’s met with the empty space next to him. Pepper is in Japan working on negotiations for the week, and he misses her comforting presence at his side.
Unable to go back to sleep, Tony flings the covers up and heads to the kitchen for a glass of water. When he gets there, he’s surprised to find another figure already there, sitting at the island under the dim lighting.
“Kid?” Tony asks, surprised. Peter’s head shoots up in surprise, and Tony holds up a soothing hand. “Sorry sorry! It’s just… what are you doing up? You should be in bed.”
Pepper, knowing how lonely Tony gets when she’s away, had arranged for Peter to stay at the Compound for the week to keep him company.
Peter shrugs. “Couldn’t sleep. You?”
“Couldn’t sleep either,” Tony admits. He fills a glass with water and grabs a package of Oreos before settling next to Peter at the island. He offers the kid a cookie.
For awhile, they sit in companionable silence, and Tony takes the time to just watch the kid as he sketches lightly on a piece of paper. There are about four different suit designs drawn out, and Tony can’t help but be impressed by the intricacy of them.
As Peter draws, Tony sees his body start to droop more and more, weighed down with each added second.
“Kid, you really should try to sleep,” he finally comments.
Peter shrugs. “I haven’t slept in ages. S’nothing I’m not used to.”
Tony frowns. “That really didn’t help your case. Why haven’t you been sleeping?” And more importantly, Tony thinks, why didn’t you tell me?
“Dunno. Just can’t,” Peter says shortly, not looking up from his sketch.
Tony hums in disbelief, idly pulling apart an Oreo, and says, “You know, I used to have really bad nightmares. Still do,” Tony says, and Peter’s pencil stills against the paper as he determinedly avoids his mentor’s gaze. “But it got so bad, once, that I called a suit to me in the middle of the night. Nearly killed her.”
Peter’s completely still now, and Tony can tell that he’s practically holding his breath as he listens. “Did you know that one of Pepper’s stipulations for us getting back together was that I had to start going to therapy?”
Peter shakes his head, still not looking at him. Tony sighs.
“Yup. She was pretty adamant,” Tony remembers. “But you know what? I’m pretty thankful she was. Because if I hadn’t gone, I never would have made it to the point where I could be in good a relationship with her again. And not even that - it’s nice to have some of my nights back now.”
Peter looks up at him then, eyes bloodshot and so, so tired. “It’s not - I’m fine,” he says. “This - “ he gestures around himself, “isn’t anything like - like that. It’s all fine,” he says firmly.
Tony smiles sadly. “I know you probably want to believe that. And look - I’m not saying you have to go sign yourself up for therapy. I’m just saying -” Tony pauses and runs a tired hand down his face. He is so not cut out for this. “You should talk to someone. May or Ned or Happy or… or me.”
Peter stares at him with wide eyes, and Tony curses himself for not saying any of this sooner. For not realizing that the kid’s probably plagued with nightmares too, that he might feel just as alone as Tony once felt.
“Just as long as you talk to someone,” Tony emphasizes. He carefully reaches out and gives Peter’s shoulder a comforting squeeze, not missing the way the kid immediately leans into the touch. He ruffles his hair affectionately before getting up.
“Try not to stay up too much longer, okay, bud?” Tony asks, snagging the last Oreo, and Peter offers him a small smile and a nod.
“Thank you, Mr. Stark,” he says softly, and Tony returns the smile before making his way back to his room.
When he wakes up the next morning, he finds a new package of Oreos on the counter with a sketch of Iron Man resting on top.

Okay okay. Since you’re asking for ultimate favorites, but since you’re also in a sense kind of asking for recommendations, I’ll do you a solid and give you a list of fifteen (which is really doing myself a solid because it means there are fewer that I have to narrow down).

1. More Ancient Than Magic by @ironfamjam
This is a mini Hogwarts AU that I absolutely ADORE and think about at least once a week. The way the author melds the two universes is incredible and so well done, and I quote it all the time.
One-shot, IronFam centric, featuring Ned and MJ, with special guest appearances from the other Avengers and Peter’s classmates. No major warnings.
2. Everybody Loves Skip by @baloobird
Okay, Kris is my favorite MCU fanfic author of all time, so you’ll see her on here a couple of times. This is by far my favorite story of hers, and it’s what made me fall in love with Interwebs. <3 <3
Multichapter, Peter centric, featuring Ace!Peter and Interwebs, with special guest appearances from Tony, May, and Tracy Leeds. Minor sexual harassment/non-con, but it doesn’t get too graphic.
3. Ohana by @jen27ny
I read this story as a part of last year’s Irondad Big Bang, and let me tell you, I was SOOO invested. I got to the point where I had to send in play by play reactions because I was so emotionally invested. The story is so well told. <3

4. Come, My Darling, Homeward Bound by @i-am-irondad
ANOTHER Irondad Big Bang 2020 story that I became OVERLY invested in to the point that I had to send play by plays in to the author. It’s a Room AU, and she NAILS each and every one of the character dynamics. I never even saw Room, and I loved it. <3
Multichapter, Tony, Peter, and Morgan centric, featuring the rest of IronFam, Spideychelle, and adorable sibling moments, with special guest appearances from Quentin Beck and my tears. Minor implied sexual harassment/non-con. (She also has a prequel and a sequel, just so you know.)
5. The Lightning Strike by @booksxtvxsupernatural
Yet ANOTHER Irondad Big Bang 2020 story that hit me right in the feels. This is a canon-divergent post-Infinity War fic, and the way the author shows how events could’ve transpired is so realistic and beautiful. <3
One-shot, Tony and Peter centric, featuring Harley Keener and Nebula, with special guest appearances from IronFam, May Parker, and several other Avengers.
6. Family Doesn’t End with Blood by @baloobird
This is a series of one-shots by my girl Kris based off of the Irondad Bingo prompts, so there are a lot of different prompts and themes, but they ALL rock.

This is one of her more recent ones, but it’s one of my faves, even with all the whump (being Whumptober and all). It has a positive ending, I promise.

This was yet another Irondad Secret Santa 2019 fic, and while this one wasn’t written specifically for me, I freaking loved it. There’s so much tension and mystery in this, and I seriously thought I was gonna pass out reading it from all of my worry. But, luckily, it has a happy ending.

So....I have been struggling with this one for a long time.....first with the pose, then finding the right reference for Tony’s face (I wanted him grinning a little akwardly but with happy eyes) but I wanted to draw this scene soooo much that I just couldn’t abandon the drawing. So here is the result....🙂

“As soon as he was actually on the couch, Peter sat there for a second, half curled around his knees and glazed eyes fixated on the flickering TV.
Then, he crawled into Tony’s lap.
The older man was so stunned that he didn’t even react. Rhodey had to shove a pillow into Clint’s face to quiet his howls of laughter, and the rest of the Avengers were only marginally more sensitive. Steve was the only one who didn’t laugh, although he did fix the pair with one of the fondest, dopiest smiles Tony had ever seen.
The kid curled into a ball, knees pushed up against Tony’s ribs and face pressed into his neck.”

“Daddy?”
Tony looked up in surprise. It wasn’t often that Morgan wandered into his office when her favorite cartoon was on. It had weird animation, revolved around something like a family of ducks. He watched it with her, sometimes, but it never really made much sense.
“Hey, honey.” He beckoned her closer, and she eagerly made her way up to his chair. It was a display of comfort that he never would’ve showed with Howard, and he always cherished those moments. Little specs of validation. “What’s up?”
“Is Peter coming over today?”
He blinked. Morgan asking for Peter wasn’t out of the ordinary, per say, but it was strange that she was asking if he was coming on a school day. She usually understood that the kid had to stay in the city during the week, despite how much she didn’t like it.
“No.” He watched her expression carefully. “Peter’s at school.”
Her face fell. “Oh.”
“Why, darling?” He brushed his palm over the crown of her head. “Is everything alright?”
“I wanted to ask him a question.”
“Well,” he smiled softly, “I’m quite good at answering those too, y’know. Why don’t you run it past me, and if we can’t solve it on our own, then we’ll give Peter a call, m’kay?”
Morgan bit her lip. “We wrote our names at playgroup.”
He nodded. Pepper had told him about that, sent him a photo of Morgan, purple marker in hand and face twisted up in concentration, carefully tracing the outline of Morgan Stark beside a bunch of other kids.
“I heard. Mom said you did a great job.”
The praise didn’t light up in her eyes like it usually did. Instead, she kept gnawing on her bottom lip, obviously deep in thought. “I finished early so I got to do more names. I did yours, and Mommy’s, and Peter’s.” She stared up at him, full of that childlike intuition that constantly took his breath away. “Is Peter not my brother?”
Well, okay. That wasn’t what he’d been expecting.
“What’re you talking about? Of course he is.”
Logically, he understood that this question had been inevitable. Morgan couldn’t dwell within the cabin’s walls forever. Eventually, the world was bound to start shoving concepts of DNA matches and blood is thicker than water into her head. To most people, brothers were defined by genetics. Your mother birthed you, and your mother birthed your brother, and therefore you were siblings.
There was, as usual, little thought given to the outliers.
So, yes, he’d known. He’d known that this was coming. He and Pepper had even prepared for it, had talked about it before. And yet hearing it out loud was jarring. It had taken him so long, through wars and loss and reunions on battlefields, to finally understand that Peter had always been his kid. Sure, he didn’t donate any genes to his DNA, but that didn’t matter. In fact, nothing had ever mattered less.
“Mommy said that too,” Morgan muttered, face scrunched up in frustrated contemplation, “but Miss Chrissy helped me write his name and when I told her that his other name was Parker and not Stark she looked at me funny and then Katie’s mommy said that that meant he wasn’t my real brother.”
Cool. Awesome. Time to kill Katie’s mom. The next PTA meeting was gonna be awkward as hell.
He took a deep breath. These were… these were the hard moments of parenting. Trying to explain the complicated things without screwing it all up. But he’d done it before. He’d explained both Peter’s absence and sudden reappearance. He’d explained the loss of his arm and the ugly scarring on his face. He’d explained tragedy, and joy, and everything in between.
He could explain this bit, too. Or, at least, he probably could.
“Well, first of all, Katie’s mom is wrong.”
Morgan frowned. “You’re not supposed to say that about adults. Miss Chrissy said so.”
“Well, Miss Chrissy’s wrong, too. Adults aren’t always right.”
“Even you?”
He snorted. God, if only Peter was here. He’d be getting a real kick out of this. “Yeah, even me.”
“So Peter is my brother?”
“Of course he is. It’s just… Peter’s your brother in a special way.”
The concept seemed to glitter through Morgan’s face. She didn’t look confused or frustrated or sad anymore. She looked intrigued.
“How?”
Oh. He… hadn’t exactly processed that having this conversation also meant having the how babies are made conversation. How did he end up with all the hard parenting moments? Where the hell was Pepper when he really needed her?
“Well, see, your mom and I made you together,” he said slowly, really hoping that he could dodge the specifics of how they made her. “You’re half her, and half me. Do you want to learn a really big word?”
“Yeah!”
“Since your mom and I both made you, that means that you’re our biological child.”
“Is Peter not your bio,” Morgan’s face screwed up as she chewed through the new word, “biological child?”
“No, squirt, he’s not.” Although there are moments that I wonder, believe me. “Remember how I told you that May is basically Peter’s mom?”
“Mhm.”
“Well, he’s not her biological child, either.” He paused. This next bit was the really hard part. He’d set it up, but now he actually had to explain. “A lot of times, people become parents the way that your mom and I did when we had you. They get together and they make a biological kid. But sometimes, people become parents because they adopt kids.”
“What does that mean?”
“It means that they pick them,” he said, because that was genuinely the simplest way he could think to put it. “They choose to become their parents.”
“Why?”
“Well, some kids don’t have any parents of their own, because they left or passed away, so that means that other people, like me and your mom and May, get to take care of those kids.”
Morgan nodded, thoughtful. “So you became Peter’s parent ‘cause his first mommy and daddy died?”
“Sort of.” He smiled gently. “It can get really, really complicated, but none of it actually matters, because this is all you need to know.” He bopped her on the nose. “Peter is 100%, without a doubt, certifiably your brother. It doesn’t matter if you’re not both my biological kids, you’re still my kids. Period, done, end of story. Oh,” he added, smirking, “and Katie’s mom is an idiot.”
Morgan glared. “Mommy said that it isn’t nice to call people that word.”
He resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Damn Pepper and her genuinely optimistic life lessons.
“And it isn’t very nice of Katie’s mom to tell people who is and isn’t their brother either, is it?” He countered.
Morgan looked nonplussed at that. Eventually, she shrugged in defeat. “I don’t think Katie’s mom meant to make me sad.”
Jesus. These kids. They were going to be the death of him.
“I’m sure she didn’t.” Because if she did, I’m really gonna kill her. “Do you understand now, squirt?”
“Yeah!” She responded, previous trepidation forgotten. “Peter’s my brother ‘cause you decided that he is. ‘Cause you chose Peter.” She grinned. “That’s so cool! Like picking out a puppy from the shelter!”
Oh, boy. He was definitely telling the kid about that analogy later. He would never live it down.
“Exactly,” he said, biting back a laugh. “And if you’d like, you can tell Katie’s mom that next time you see her. That way, she doesn't accidentally make anybody else sad.”
Morgan’s face brightened at the thought. It was obvious that she hadn’t picked up on the sarcasm in Tony’s voice. Which, of course, had been the point.
“That’s a good idea, Daddy!”
He winked. “I’m full of those, you know.”
And, sure, Pepper was probably going to kick his ass after Morgan schooled Katie’s mom in How Not To Be An Asshole next playgroup session, but it would be totally worth it.
He’d have to have F.R.I.D.A.Y. hack into the playgroup’s security cameras. That was one event that he just couldn’t miss.

- this is one of my favourite tropes, i love it completely and the guilt and regret of tony is amazing.

- i cried along with tony while reading this, the bond between tony and peter is shown really well.

- this is a trope i love as well, i completely related to peter and when tony realises what he’s feeling it’s the perfect comfort fic.
A fic that brought you onboard a new ship: Peter and the jailbirds- beautifullights
- okay this is one of the best long fics ive read, i spent about three hours straight reading this and then i read it again. amazing whump and ptsd from peter. and the reunion of sam and steve was adorable. not my favourite ship but definitely cute.
A fic you wish could be a movie: Tennessee whiskey- Superstitious
- The best parkner fic i’ve read, perfect ending and Harley’s reaction to peter leaving was A+. Then Peter comes back and its just- so adorable.

- amazing allergy whump fic. I laughed so hard when tony found out and they both finally got what they deserved. Peter’s need for comfort when he sees tony killed me.

- THESE SHIPS. MJ and HARLEY being BROS. Harley being a disaster gay over Peter. Oh my god this was amazing. please go read it, its so adorable.
A fic you stayed up too late to finish reading: round two- caraminha
-amazing comfort, in the time after the snap, after they got everyone back, peter has to go through the mutation again, one of the best switch ups from the normal fix-it au you see
A fic that made you feel seen: What’s In a serum?- purplestarfish As well as Ace of hearts- @shadedrose01
-first of all, amazing trans posativity between tony, steve and peter, and you still come out of the story loving scott.
-next, Perfect parkner fic, peter being insecure and harley being reassuring. i would read 50k words of this.

“Hey, kid,” Tony greets as Peter plops onto the couch next to him and immediately buries his face into Tony’s shoulder. “You good?”
When Peter shakes his head, Tony frowns. It’s a lazy Saturday morning, and they’re supposed to spend all day in the lab. It’s Peter’s favorite kind of day. Well, usually. The kid sighs heavily against his shoulder, and Tony reflexively brings a hand up to card through his hair soothingly.
“I hate being sad,” Peter states, and Tony tenses. This is something they’ve been working on. Reaching out.
“Is there anything in particular you’re sad about?” Tony prompts, and Peter shrugs, bringing his knees up so he can properly curl into Tony’s side.
Now that Peter’s depression is out in the open and something they’ve been working through, Tony’s noticed just how clingy the kid can be. He’d be lying if he said it bothers him.
“No,” Peter answers. “I just am.” He pauses for a second, hand gripping the front of Tony’s shirt tightly. When he speaks again, his voice sounds different, like water rushing over broken glass. A painful perseverance. “Sometimes I think it’s all I am.”
Tony’s already shaking his head, gently pulling back and tilting Peter’s face up to look him in the eye.
“Nope, I’m gonna have to stop you right there, bud. You are not your depression. You’re Peter Parker. You’re a dorky kid who loves cheesy puns and LEGOs and has an incredible passion for science. You’re selfless and kind and love chocolate chip waffles. But you are not Depression. You have depression, but it’s not you,” Tony says fiercely.
Peter looks down, wrapping his arms around his knees and twisting his hands nervously. There is doubt etched into his face, and Tony wants nothing more than to erase it.
“You know those kids you visit every Friday? In the hospital, the ones with cancer?” Tony asks. Peter nods in confusion, waiting to see where his mentor is going with this. “Do you think that those kids are just... cancer and nothing more?”
Peter immediately shakes his head. “That’s completely different!” he protests, but Tony just fixes him with a steady look. He will not waver. He needs his kid to understand.
“It’s not,” Tony says firmly. “They were who they are before they got an illness. And they’re still that person. Maybe a bit changed, yeah, but that’s how experiences work. Illnesses are things you experience, things that happen to you. They are not what you are.”
Peter opens his mouth to protest again, but Tony doesn’t let him. “Kid,” he says gently. “Depression is called a mental illness for a reason. It’s just that - an illness. Just like cancer. A does not equal B. Peter does not equal Depression. Two separate things.”
Math. Variables. That, Peter understands. He considers this for a moment.
“I’m... I’m a constant,” Peter says uncertainly. “And... Depression is the x? Is that what you’re saying?”
Tony nods. “Exactly. So maybe right now the equation is y = x + 2. Y is life. And you’re the constant, 2. You’ve always been 2, that’s who you are. You have depression, x. It’s an added variable, something that happened to you. It’s part of your life but it’s not part of you. Does that make sense?”
Tony watches Peter’s face as he thinks this over. Writes the simple equation in his head. Decides if it works.
“If x, depression, is a big number, then it plays a larger role in my life,” Peter muses. “But if it’s smaller, if it can be reduced then - then it’s just a smaller part of my life, but I’m still me.”
Peter looks up at Tony with fragile eyes, something akin to hope swimming in them. The realization that he is separate, that being sad is not part of his identity, makes him feel like maybe it will be okay.
Tony carefully wraps his arm around Peter and pulls him close again, smiling softly when the kid sighs, this time in content.
“Okay?” he asks, and Peter nods.
“Okay,” he agrees. “But being sad still fucking sucks.”
Tony ruffles his hair and smiles sympathetically. “I know, buddy. How does ice cream for breakfast sound?”
Peter’s face slowly breaks into a grin. “Like a good reason to be happier.”
“I’d have to agree,” Tony says, lurching to his feet and pulling the kid up with him before heading to the kitchen, one arm slung casually around the kid.
(Do not let your mental illness define you. You are so much more than that. You always have been and always will be.)
