One of the few things we can still be fairly certain of is that neither mikuni nor lily want misono to die in the ritual so being trapped in lily's magic chess game is probably meant to protect misono from being sacrificed to bring the count back.

It would be great to see lily's shocked face once the chess game ends and contrary to his expectation the ritual isn't done yet because mahiru decided against going to the shrine.

Lily is acting so smug right now, I want that expression to be wiped from his face.
