Femme Fatale Guide: How To Master An "Effortlessly Elegant" & Put-Together Look
Table of Contents:
Treat your skin like royalty
Take ample care of your natural hair
Dress in crisp neutral outfits that cater to your body shape
Choose your accessories wisely
Embrace feature-enhancing makeup
Keep your nails clean, filed, and simple
Regarding your signature scent(s)
Follow your dental & bodily hygiene routines religiously
Treat your skin like royalty:
Use high-quality skincare twice a day
Wear sunscreen every day
Remove your makeup every night before bed no matter what
Use makeup that doesn't clog your pores/irritate your skin
Change your pillowcases weekly
Eat plenty of produce & drink lots of water
Prioritize sleep
Limit or eliminate alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine, and processed foods/sugary drinks
Keep your skin exfoliated/derma-planed
Take ample care of your natural hair:
Use high-quality shampoo/conditioner combos that suit your hair type & don't cause build-up
Hydrate with a scalp mask 1-4 times a month
Use cold or lukewarm water to wash your hair
Apply shampoo to the roots/hair covering your scalp and conditioner only on the "ponytail" section of your hair
Use a specialty hair towel after getting out of the shower
Always comb wet hair and brush 1-3 times a day when dry
Limit heat on your hair when possible & always use a heat protectant every time you do
Use non-elastic or silk hair ties
Get regular trims at least 3-4 times per year (get your hair layered if it's very thick)
Try to limit how much you dye or, especially bleach, your hair and do elaborate styles with tons of heat & harsh products
Dress in crisp neutral outfits that cater to your body shape:
Embrace minimalist basics (tees, tanks, blouses, sweaters, jeans, trousers, blazers, leather jackets, coats, etc.) in high-quality fabrics (Pima cotton, Merino wool, Tencel, mulberry silk, etc.)
Choose options in black, white, grey, charcoal beige, navy, burgundy, or cream depending on your skin tone and preferences
Invest in a collection of sleek footwear options (black boots, loafers, black pumps, white sneakers, etc.) in minimalist, timeless styles that suit the color palette, hemlines & proportions of your go-to outfits
Ensure your shoes and accessories feel proportional to the weight/silhouette of your outfit, color-coordinate with the rest of your look, and have streamlined hardware from head-to-toe (all silver, all gold, or one piece that mixes silver/gold and another gold & silver piece each to balance out the color palette)
Keep all of your clothes steam and lint-rolled, so they look crisp & fresh all-day
Befriend your tailor to take in or let out clothes as needed when purchased off the rack
Choose clothes/styles that flatter your body shape and proportions
Utilize belts and bra tape to adjust the waist, keep shirts tucked in, and keep straps from falling down or create an impromptu cuff/hem on your pants
When in doubt, select a neutral head-to-toe monochrome outfit
If on a budget, consider choosing black, grey, camel beige items to hide fabric imperfections that could cheapen your look
Choose your accessories wisely:
Select sleek, simple neutral (& almost exclusively) monochrome shoes made with smooth (recycled/vegan) leather with
Pair almost any outfit with a shoe featuring a slight platform, block heel, kitten heel, and/or a sharply pointed toe to elongate your silhouette
Complement your outfit with structured, pared-back handbags with no logos (Focus on quality and construction, not the brand name) in a neutral shade and timeless silhouette
For jewelry, choose at most one statement piece and all others should be focused on different areas of the body (e.g. don't mix statement earrings with layered/bold necklaces or stacked rings * bracelets). When in doubt, choose simple diamond chains or earrings, sleek bangles or chainlink necklaces & bracelets, simple pendant necklaces, and minimalist rings in hardware that all go together
Embrace feature-enhancing makeup:
Cover up any dark circles, blemishes, or hyperpigmentation with a color-matched concealer
Lightly contour with a bronzer that complements your skin tone
Fill in your brows for a naturally full look (or get them professionally tinted)
Apply a light wash of rose, coral, or mauve blush
Use black mascara with a little bit of eyeliner and/or a subtle wash of brown eyeshadow on the lids
Apply a "your lips but better" nude shade or "just kissed' berry lipstick or pigmented lip balm for a subtle wash of color
Keep your nails clean, filed, and simple:
Maintain cut, cleaned, and filed short nails
Opt for a square or almond nail shape
Choose a timeless nail shade (pink, nude, red, beige, dark cherry, navy, dark purple, black) with no nail art
Hydrate your hands and scrub under your nails daily
Regarding your signature scent(s):
Ensure your body wash/lotion and perfume scents don't clash
Test perfumes for a trial day to ensure they smell divine with your unique pheromones
Choose a fragrance appropriate for the seasonal/occasion
Apply a dab on each wrist and on your neck/behind the ears. If the scent doesn't project well on you, try applying these small dabs on the cuffs and shoulders of your jacket/walk into it to get it on your hair (if it would stain your clothes)
Don't layer more than one heady perfume at a time or scents that don't have complementary and/or shared notes
Follow your dental & bodily hygiene routines religiously:
Floss every day (after each meal if possible)
Brush your teeth with an electric toothbrush twice a day
Have mints on hand if you're a garlic, spice, or coffee lover
Keep your lips & hands well-moisturized and protected with SPF
Shower your body daily and be extra diligent in scrubbing your privates, everything behind, and under your arms
Don't use very hot water in the shower (it burns/dries out your skin)
Exfoliate 2-3 times a week with a sugar scrub
Moisturize daily or anytime you get out of the shower
Apply SPF on any exposed sun (especially in the summer or when the UV index is high in your area)

Pick A Pile!
Tumblr media
Pile 1:
Minimalist Aesthetic: The minimalist aesthetic is characterized by simplicity, clean lines, and a focus on functionality. It embraces a "less is more" approach, with a limited color palette, minimal patterns, and streamlined silhouettes.
Key elements of this aesthetic include well-tailored basics, neutral colors such as black, white, gray, and beige, and a preference for high-quality fabrics. Minimalist fashion often emphasizes the importance of quality over quantity, and accessories are kept to a minimum.
Pile 2:
Bohemian Aesthetic: The bohemian aesthetic, also known as boho or boho-chic, draws inspiration from the free-spirited and unconventional style of the bohemian counterculture. It is characterized by a relaxed and eclectic mix of patterns, textures, and colors.
Bohemian fashion embraces a sense of individuality and self-expression, often incorporating elements such as flowing maxi dresses, loose-fitting tops, fringe details, embroidery, floral prints, and earthy tones. Layering and accessorizing with items like floppy hats, beaded jewelry, and suede or leather accents are common in this aesthetic.
Pile 3:
Streetwear Aesthetic: The streetwear aesthetic originated from urban youth culture and has become a prominent fashion style. It blends elements of sportswear, casual attire, and a rebellious attitude. Streetwear is often associated with brands and logos, graphic t-shirts, hoodies, sneakers, and baggy or oversized garments.
Key features of this aesthetic include bold colors, statement prints, unique patterns, and a mix of high-end and streetwear-specific brands. Accessorizing with caps, backpacks, and statement jewelry is also common in streetwear fashion.
Pile 4:
Preppy Aesthetic: The preppy aesthetic draws inspiration from traditional Ivy League and upper-class fashion. It exudes a polished and sophisticated look with a focus on classic, timeless pieces. Key elements of preppy fashion include well-fitted clothing, clean lines, and a mix of vibrant colors and patterns.
Typical items associated with this aesthetic include polo shirts, button-down Oxford shirts, khaki pants, tailored blazers, pleated skirts, and loafers. Accessories like pearl necklaces, headbands, and structured handbags are often incorporated into the preppy style.
Pile 5:
Gothic Aesthetic: The gothic aesthetic is characterized by its dark, dramatic, and often theatrical style. It draws inspiration from the gothic subculture, with influences from Victorian and medieval fashion. The color black is predominant in gothic fashion, and it is often combined with rich, deep hues like burgundy, purple, and dark green.
The gothic style embraces unconventional silhouettes, intricate lace details, corsets, leather accents, fishnet stockings, and platform boots. Accessories like chokers, statement jewelry with occult symbols, and dramatic makeup are also common in this aesthetic.
--------------------------------------------------
It's important to note that fashion aesthetics can vary greatly, and these descriptions provide a general overview of each style. Fashion is highly subjective, and individuals often incorporate elements from different aesthetics to create their own unique personal style.

Here ye, hear ye! I do declare I headcanon
Hobie ALWAYS smells good asf
Without exception.
It's something you can always notice, because every day he smells slightly different. But always good.
It's on purpose.
I mean, look at all his accessories and clothes - he probably has a nightstand piled high with spiked bracelets and studded chokers and silver rings. And right next to his accessories - is his cologne collection.
Some bottles are older, half filled bottles of vintage finds he loves. Others are newer, fancier - ones knicked from high end shops. If he smells it, and likes it, he takes it.
His favorite are the woody, smoky, spiced smells. Like sandalwood or cognac. Things that smell like shag carpets and roaring fireplaces.
Sometimes he may be in the mood for something a bit sweeter, so sometimes he'll of dark chocolate, or maple syrup, or chai.
The most common ones are surprisingly fruity.
Hobie often smells of cherries. Dark, deep maroon cherries, the kind with sweet dark juice. Others, on more playful days - green apple, a little bit tart but still fresh.
I Hc he likes candy too, and is constantly popping jolly ranchers. Sometimes you can hear it when he's eating one, the quiet clacking of it - and the faint scent of blue raspberry, or super sweet watermelon.
When it comes to Spider Senses, I like to think Hobie is a sensory seeker.
He likes loud music and big speakers and heavy, layered clothes. He's likes strong sounds and scents, bright colors, and interesting textures. And cologne is one of his favorite parts of an outfit -
Cause he does consider it just that - apart of the outfit. Don't let Mr.'Cool This Whole Time' fool you - he thinks about outfits. Hobie really enjoys putting them together.
He's actually into fashion - just not in the industrial consumerist way most assume. But he still loves matching pieces, making them, putting together fits. And he never leaves the house without some fragrance.
It REALLY adds to the appeal.
Diane's trying to talk to him about work when they first meet and she's already nervous
and then she's can't help but notice and be like 'oh- WOW, you smell good. Heh. wOW. Sorry. Sorry. I just did not expect you to smell like cherry blossoms-'
Tumblr media Tumblr media
'....thanks-'
'oh goodness, wait a minute, that's not it. I - I don't even think I could place that scent-'
She's standing there in the middle of the hall smelling Hobie - train of thought derailed the tracks and rolling down a mountainside, Miguel's work forgotten
Hobie goes 'its jasmine, really. Jasmine and saffron'
Diane's like 'JASMINE AND SAFFRON??? Boy. whatchu know about some Jasmine Saffron!'
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cause how dare he. How dare he be that fine. It's not okay. How can she live her life in these conditions?
She goes to tell Margo like 'Girl!! Did you know Hobie wears cologne?!' and Margo is like
'... Sis I'm not even physically here what makes you think I can smell'
Even Miguel notices after a while.
It's a group meeting, and he's lost in thought as he rambles off another plan, pacing back and forth.
He stops suddenly when something comes to mind.
'Who's that? Whereas that smell coming from? It smells like Horchata in here. Who was drinking Horchata??'
Cause if someone was drinking Horchata he wants some. Undebatable.
Half the room is like what the hell is Horchata???
Miguel's like 'it's cinnamon and rice and vanilla - it's a Mexican drink, alright. WHO WAS DRINKING IT.'
Hobie raises his hand and Miguel's like 'Not now, Brown. We're talking about something important.'
Hobies like 'Bruv it's me. I ain't drink it I just smell like it-'
Of course Miguel is calling bullshit cause he's sure Hobie is fucking with him until he goes over and Miguel's thinking 'oh fuck he does 😳🤨 que diablos???'
But he just looks down at Hobies smug ass face and he's like '.... As you were, 138.' before trying to act like nothing ever happened 😭😭
I think to think Hobie Brown is just That Smooth
The good looks ain't by accident he is BROKE, PUNK, and HIGH MAINTENANCE

What separates how similar Harmonix-Cosmix are to Magic Winx-Enchantix? Magic Winx was also pretty uniform and Enchantix had a similar flowery look
Shapes mainly lol
In the first form, there are shorts, skirts, different necklines and accessories.
Bloom has a turtle neck, Stella has a 1 shoulder top, and Musa amd Aisha do too, but the bottoms are different and Aisha’s has a wrap around bit included and metal accents, Flora has a corset with a side skirt, there are gloves, gauntlets, bracelets, there are wedges, heels built into the shoe, and heels that have the platform separate from the shoe, etc etc
Magic Winx has a similar look all together, ie club clothes, and they have some set things such as an arm piece or arm accessory, and heels
Enchantix, different shapes again. Bloom has an empire waistline dress, Flora also has an empire waistline style dress but the cut and layering is different, skirts are common but the shapes are all different like with Musa’s bubble shape skirt, Aisha’s with the cascading petal shapes along the trim, Stella’s separate petals, layers are different, coloring style is different, hair styles are more intricate but distinct, foot things are varying heights and have different wraps, etc
It has some set things like magic Winx, ie traditional fairy idea with within western Eurocentric nature stuff, gloves, a hairpiece, the foot decorations, necklace attachment to act as a fairy dust bottle
But they all have different shapes and silhouettes and most importantly, they’re MUCH more individualized
You can’t put all of the outfits together for enchantix or magic Winx and break it down to a set shape the same way you can with the post s5 stuff
Shoutout to Nickelodeon for doing that to make it more “cohesive” in an attempt to homogenize the girls for the sake of toy sales. It sucked and it didn’t work😌
I am a Bloomix defender to an extent though those are the most individualized the girls have been in a WHILE and I’m a slut for decorative armor

Personal QSMP design hcs and interpretations (PART 1)
1. q!Quackity
ducktaur. predominantly golden yellow feathers and bright orange duck legs
partial heterochromia (dark brown with bits of bluish-grey)
his wear is different depending on which language he is maining at the moment
Eng!Q has an eyebrow scar, calloused hands, and some browning feathers. Wears religious jewelry and warm-colored clothes.
ESP!Q has ear piercings and blue-dyed feathers. Always has a clip-on tie and cool colored clothes.
Post-Tilin death, he either has their ribbon as a necktie (ESP) or belt (ENG)
has a pin of the QSMP logo always on his person
Brushes his feathers before teaching class
2. q!Jaiden
she is the cartoon character reflected by the mc skin, though is nonetheless perceived as human
she magical girl transforms into the vtuber fit whenever she wants to. Most of the time, it's to fight or to protect Bobby
she transforms using a magical brooch that resembles the emblem on her vtuber fit. she can add stuff on the brooch to alter her transformed appearance (like changing the bird wings to butterfly ones, or having a shiny rainbow mode)
she made a smaller, less powerful replica of her brooch for Bobby so he can get into armor much faster
she "draws" things out of her inventory with her fingers in the air (think the spellcasting of the witches in The Owl House, but with different symbols)
When Bobby died, her transformed look takes on a more dark and brooding appearance
3. q!Roier
he's not a spider hybrid but like, an actual Spiderman—literally got bit by a radioactive spider and everything
alternates between his superhero suit and a civilian fit. like jaiden, he transforms between fits superhero style
can fire webs from his hands, has slight spider sense, and also venomous saliva (so i beg of you, do not get head from this man)
wears natural makeup bc he likes to. he darkens it a little when he feels particularly vengeful (this is canon but yk)
the spiderman traits also apply to Melissa, whose dyed lingerie is literally weaved from spider webs
Post-Bobby death, he wears more blacks (both in civilian and superhero fits) and a lot more eyeliner
4. q!Bad
humanoid looking demon. resembles a void-like shadow in extreme emotional states
distinctly has a glowing halo. it has long horns growing out of it + a shadowy demon tail
has his mc skin's hoodie but sleeveless. collared shirts of any color is usually under that + beige khakis, white socks and various sneakers!
His hoodie has a small embroidered symbol of the Order Theoritas, hidden near the collar of the hood
his hair is long and usually tied loosely. wears glasses as well
sharp canines make him look a bit catty
his reaper get-up is well-sewn cursed cloth. wearing the fit makes his halo and tail larger, darker, and more shadowy
there's a block of diamond + an image of skeppy always on his person
He lets Dapper wear the ghost chat bell as a tail accessory
5. q!Spreen
werebear. He turns into a human during sunny daytimes, and is otherwise an anthromorphic bear-man.
black bear, like the mc skin
fashion sense however matches the CC; generally street-looking even with the bulk of armor
canines and claws glow when he's fighting someone in bear mode. he grows them out fighting during his human state
smells like cigarettes
6. q!Slime
a player equivalent to minecraft slime
prefers taking on a humanoid appearance, and has taken it long enough to master recolorization of said state. feels uncomfortable taking any other form as well
experiences pain when shifting (i mean that's also canon but yk)
behaves like a magma cube in extreme negative emotional states. will resemble one if you piss him off enough
he has no actual clothes, he shapeshifts the appearance of clothing. (q!Mariana has noticed, and he doesn't like to think too hard about it) his most external layer is armor and glasses.
he and q!Mariana have each a piece of Juanaflippa's shell on their person
7. q!Cellbit
human. well, not completely according to genetics but is more or less perceived as one.
The CC but wearing the blockman-cubito's fits
wears eyeliner to hide the eyebags. This doesnt work and only makes his eyes more expressive
a shadow looms the upper half of his face whenever he's being super weird and mysterious. It darkens when he's consciously about to do something really bad in a dramatic anime way; this is much more emphasized if he puts on his goggles
he paints his nails and the paint always trails. these glow sailor moon style when he comes into contact with the blood of any living creature
has a caffeine addiction
The chainsaw scars are deep enough that Cellbit doesn't like looking at himself when changing; he forces it though to remember why he's doing anything at all
Taught Richas how to draw the symbol for the Ordo Theoritas. He also has the symbol pressed into the leather of his gloves
8. q!Wilbur
humanoid man of unidentified species. perceived as human.
really is human looking, minus the pointy ears and prismatic irises
wears clear glasses. yellow sweater + sleeveless brown longcoat + grey jeans + black boots
has a black scarf and red beanie both made of wool and embroidered with gold threaded flowers.
always has a guitar on his person. since tallulah entered his life, he's let her put stickers and draw all over it.
They jam together when they can
may or may not have an enchanted singing voice

Hi welcome backk :] I’m currently hyperfixating on art history + Tuvok so here’s some Renaissance - 19th century paintings that I think Tuvok (especially Tuvok the way you characterize him :) would serve cunt in: Fra Fillippo Lippi - Madonna With Child Enthroned With Two Angels, Georges de La Tour - The Penitent Magdalen, John Singer Sargent - Madame X (Madame Pierre Gautreau) (bonus points cuz of the history of the painting) Thank you for your time :)
Tumblr media
Sketches! Thoughts on each Below (I don't know art history)
Madame X: The difference between the woman's very pale skin and the deep black of her dress is striking. She's also the only thing really in frame - even the background is just a color. Looking back on it I wish I'd chosen a different color for the background so Tuvok's skin looked more striking. If I redo this I definitely will since her skin being the only 'pale' thing is part of what (to me) makes her so immediately striking. Currently in my piece that 'point of interest' has become the white robes which wasn't my intention. But the fact that they're so fancy makes it seem like it might be, hehe...if this was an assignment for a class or something I'd definitely lie and say it was. Anyway since Tuvok has dark skin I didn't want to keep the clothes black since to me it wouldn't have the same 'Madame X' appeal. So I changed his robes to be white to contrast his skin and also made them less revealing because I don't think Tuvok wears very revealing outfits....usually very covered up and layered. So again I wanted to change the appeal - you can't really see any part of his body so you focus on the face instead, even though the face isn't focusing on you. I picture this as a younger version of Tuvok at some sort of function. The 'bunny ears' at the top of his head mimic Madame X's hairpin(?) but also bring to mind a Vulcan Priestess.
The Penitent Magdalene: Tuvok's most associated color (to me) being purple made this drawing again a bit ... mmm -tilts hand so so- The red in the originally really warmed the piece and was very eye catching. There was more of a sense of the candle's glow. I thought about using his security yellow but I thought it'd be too samey with the golds and browns and I wanted to signify that this is a private, personal moment. I drew this while thinking about the scene where Tuvok places a candle in his window for Kes after her ascension. Quiet mourning. We don't see his face because he's Vulcan and it's assumed he's struggling with emotion. Even the mirror doesn't show his face - it shows the candle, symbolic of his affection for Kes and his grief at her having gone. It burns bright. On the floor is his Starfleet badge, pointing him out but useless. This visage of dark and quiet sorrow is cut through slightly by light from the next and last piece. Madonna with Child, Two Angels: Of course Tuvok's angels and his children are one in the same. In the original piece, the child is able to touch its mother but in this one she's just out of reach. Tuvok is similarly not looking at or embracing the child - in this piece it's because he cannot. He's too far from her, from all of them! He is instead praying (as they do in canon) to return safely to them. Tuvok looks more tired in this one and he's wearing the neck ruffle thing that the monk he was sent to as a teenager wore. I'm using it here as like a nun's habit but also as like 'he's remembering another time his faith was utterly destroyed and he was able to rebuild it'. Forever thinking about the throwaway line in 'Innocence' where he says he USED to believe in katra but RECENTLY struggles to. I wonder if this is because he's alone, without family. To believe in katra would be somewhat frightening under those circumstances. You can say 'Janeway would just take it' but I'm sure it's more complicated and fraught for Tuvok himself. Anyway, I turned the halo into a part of the headscarf he's wearing (some sort of ornate accessory) and the mischievous/joyful angel in the original is now Elieth who looks accusatory, as if we're keeping him and his siblings from their father. The spark in the middle of the drawing is ... well it's their connection and all that stems from it. Both joy and sorrow at remembering, having had. This is why it also 'cuts through' them - separating them. It's also why I incorporated it slightly into the above piece as they deal with similar themes. I hope this was satisfactory! Thank you!

How do you usually pick your color palettes? I love how vibrant your drawings are without been intense to the eyes
I went over a couple things in a previous ask. So I’ll include some different ones this time.
A big part is just having an archive of 'things' in your head that develops your intuition when choosing colors. Not necessarily other illustrations/characters, but also logos, buildings, irl stuff? They all give you not just color palette ideas, but also color distribution. You can simplify both trees and bushes as green/brown, but if you picture their colors in abstract, the distribution of each differs. And that helps a lot in recognizing areas where your colors seem lacking, or areas where they *should* be lacking (and thus not attention-grabbing).
In general though I look at a char and decide on a 'main idea'; usually a 2-3 color scheme based off the original design that everything needs to revolve around. Pink/Blues, Green/Orange, Black/Red, etc.
From there my first pass at colors is splitting the piece into different elements (hair, clothes, skin) and giving them a high-max brightness base color with arbitrary saturation, and the lineart a notably higher saturation (and maybe darker) version of the base, usually hue shifted a bit to the left or right (Note this often won't be enough).
Some elements won't fit cleanly in the 2-3 color palette, or would blend in too much with the surroundings (especially with stuff like accessories or clothing patterns). In those cases I mess with the saturation, or use one of the other hues I've limited myself to in order to make it pop out more (outlining the object or giving it a shadow with the opposing color, coloring the lineart surround it, removing the lineart, etc).
Basic shadow colors is usually higher saturated and hue shifted versions of the base color.
The limited pallette creates situations where I'll use pink to act as highlights on Miku's blue hair. Or the pink is used to create extra hair strands for more volume. Limitations force creativity kinda deal.
Trial and Error 🙃. Get used to putting sets of shadings on separate layers so you can lock transparency and change the whole color at once. Same for having a dozen layers clipped to the lineart. Clip has a 'take me to layer this is on' button under Operations that's quite nice for this.
Choose a base level of brightness (usually max for me) and don't deviate too much. Brightness is a powerful part in how your art 'reads' so making something notable darker/brighter than the rest should be a deliberate decision that you make several other choices around. On that note, when I do make something dark, I make sure the lineart around it feels bright and saturated against it.
A buddy told me this trick where you have a layer of pure black on top of everything else. Have the layer setting to "Color" and it gives you an alright idea of how well your brightness reads.
Ok I wrote a lot.

hi I'm a faggy tgirl looking to get even more faggy after getting involved in my local punk scene. from one faggy trans person to the next do you have any advice for looking cool cuz all your outfits fucking rule. I've been buying lots of accessories these days and really wanna get snake bites + maybe a Medusa piercing. also you're really really hot
Okay, getting my ego out of the way, I’m incredibly hot and you should 50000% get piercings. I have never regretted my stake bites a day I’ve had them except the one time I did regret them cause it turns out if you have a food allergy you didn’t know about you find out very quickly when your lip swells up.
But I got you!! I can’t say this’ll be perfect advice cause a lot of the time I have no idea what I’m doing but let’s go. Advice under the cut.
OKAY. Welcome to the party. A lot of this advice will be scattered tips and tricks but we got this.
Fishnets
Fishnets are a magical, versatile thing, cheap, and a punk staple. Especially if your clothes have rips or tears they can show through, but just in general they tend to add a lot of visual interest.
Tumblr media
They can be prone to tearing but if you’re going for a punk/emo aesthetic this isn’t a bad thing
Tumblr media
In addition, if you layer two pairs of fishnets it makes REALLY cool patterns. You can experiment with the size of the fishnets you’re layering to get different visual effects.
Tumblr media
Want a fishnet shirt? Just tear the crotch of your fishnets and cut holes in the ‘foot’ portion where you want your fingers to pop out. It WILL look sick but you may need to pin it to your pants if you don’t want em to look like a crop top.
Accessorizing!
Tumblr media
You’ll have to excuse the mess in these, but accessories REALLY can make the fit. Collars, chains, cool bags, etc, they all do somethin’ for the outfit.
In addition, it helps to have a statement piece. In this case, it’s my massive fuck all boots but-
Tumblr media
It can also be the jacket in a fit like this. You want something that draws the eye.
Balancing your fits
Tumblr media
You’ve heard the “big shirt little pants vs big pants little shirt’ thing, but a lot of it is creating a visual balance between your top and bottom half. For an outfit to be visually pleasing, it helps to balance the points of interest. In this case, the first fit was super top heavy and I didn’t have my big fuckall boots to draw the eyes back down, so I swapped my pants and switched the top layer and collar to match
Color schemes!
Tumblr media
So you may have noticed I don’t stray a ton from black/white/red when it comes to my more alt fits. That’s cause buying clothes and statement pieces is WAY easier if you’re constraining yourself to a color pallet that suits you. It does limit ya, but especially when you thrift a ton of your clothes you can save some money. I personally limit myself to two color schemes with some overlap. (And a few exceptions)
(Blue, Yellow, (Red,) Black, White)
It lets me change up the aesthetic if I want without needing a COMPLETELY separate closet.
Finally, I’m using this as an excuse to show off any outfits that I couldn’t fit cause they look cool as hell but you can see how it all applies

idk I'm just trying to figure out the Vibes of this settings fashion. I'm trying to avoid anything that is like, obviously from any real culture, but if you can't tell from the kimono and dhoti knockoffs, that's hard. Mostly because the rules I've decided on have to do with the sorts of looms that would be being used, what fibers are available+in what qualities, and general climate. Once you narrow down that shit you're left with only a handful of options that have all already been done. Humans been wearing clothes for a real long time. Anyways, fuck you, demon fiber craft lore time
I don't have specific earth place picked out but the gen climate for this part of the setting is very mild. Heatstroke is a concern at the height of summer, frostbite at the height of winter. jorts and a thin hoody would be appropriate clothing for the weather 60% of the year. Just gradient out in those directions from there. Very dry summers, fuck ton of snow in the winter.
Sheep are around but mostly as meat animals with fiber being a secondary product, there's just not enough good grazing land for them since most of the area is forested. There are man made clearings, but full on farms and fields aren't as common as food forests. Plus the dryness of the summer makes a lot of field centric agriculture not an option, it's too dry and there's not enough folk cooperating in the area to manage massive irrigation projects being built up.
What is an option is flax. Grown along rivers most clothing is linen with wool being used for thicker garments and silk for finer garments.
all the work that goes into fabric creation in a pre spinning wheel society means fabric is Pricey. Demonic magic helps, but not a lot. Most garments are not cut or sewn. They're made with whole pieces of cloth wrapped or folded to conserve as much material as possible and then pinned, tied, or otherwise secured.
There's also two very different sorta parts of society to consider for Esti and his outfits.
One is that of his birth. Prim and Proper Nobles who control vast resources largely through negotiation bribery and backstabbing. the Coraxes, their outfits tend to be Expensive, and very much made with a life spent indoors and away from any kind of physical anything in mind. The head family of demons are colorblind, and because of that their fashion, and thus the fashion of those who want to fit in with them, has a very limited pallette, shades of grey and natural fiber colors are the primary elements with red and gold fabric being used as an accent to keep people from thinking too long about their 'fault'. They are totally reliant on their servants to be telling the truth about what color anything is. Esti is from that noble family so his outfits were largely picked out for him when he was to be seen outside their home. big heavy layered skirts that he needs help with when he gets dressed are not his typical vibe but he does appreciate the number of places to hide knives.
Next up are the Cristatuses, Their prevalence and current top dog spot have come from ruthless conquest of nearby territories and a very militaristic vibe. For the common person this mostly just means theyre the big city folk. This is where the money is. Bright colorful fabrics and lots of thin short layers to go with a much more physically active lifestyle of sports and work done outdoors even if it's not work completely suited to being done outside. Breezy. Their wider trade network and attractiveness to merchants also means more options for basically everything to do with clothing accessories and other bits of self ornamentation.
Esti apprenticed with a war lord. His experience with the fashion had a lot more to do with what was practical while on horse back or after the third night sleeping in the dirt. Bright colors stayed but thicker, more minimal, and legged garments were the norm. Armor is a thing, he is an apprentice to a man who should be a prince, he was never supposed to see battle, and was instead kinda meant to become the sort of general who has never actually fought but who knows a lot of tactical theory.
When he finally got to start picking his own outfits he kept with the more neutral and dull colors of his heritage, but the much lighter and easier to move in outfits he was used to wearing throughout his training. Minimal and dull by Cristatus standards, unrefined and brutish by those of the Corax. Very comfortable for him.

Steddilly / Harringroveson Deep Dive About Accessories & Interpersonal Relationships.
with @asininepigeon & me :)
Billy is selective about his accessories. He probably has a small bowl of carefully curated pieces.
Some from his mom's things she hadn't had time to take with her, something he's snatched while in the rich stores of Hawkins while hanging out with Tommy and Carol, a piece he was given by a really cool queer dude in San Diego and maybe something Max made him when they were really little.
It never gets worn but it has a safe home in the bowl in his bedroom.
Eddie definitely has a bunch of rings and necklaces that he's like stolen, thrift-ed, and were gifted by like Wayne, Hellfire, and the small group of rockers in Hawkins.
They all kind of lay in a jumble and he takes like 20 minutes figuring out which ones he wants to wear. And while I feel like Billy's a bit more minimalist with his jewelry, Eddie loves statement pieces.
Things that scream hey, I'm that dude u call a freak and I fucked your dude for payment of weed 😜
Billy sometimes find's it chaotic, Steve finds it amusing. Steve will occasionally steal some of Eddie's jewelry if their going out somewhere that fits more of Eddie & Billy's vibes. He doesn't touch Billy's jewelry though b/c the two of them know how particular Billy is with what he wears on his body & the last thing they want is to loose something of his lol
Billy does not wear Eddie's jewelry. It's 'clunky & gaudy'
I think Steve doesn't do accessories b/c of the kind of home he grew up in. Accessories for Men™️ are Cuff-Links, Ties, Leather dress shoes, Pocket watches & briefcases.
Steve hates all of that. With a passion.
He got his first pair of sunglasses from his dad at like 13-14 and he felt like they made him feel so cool and mysterious. He doesn't need people to see him and see his flashy things. He just wants them to see that cool, outer layer he's put over himself.
Steve hating dressing up for formal events, b/c he despises wearing suits.
He prefers his soft sweaters, jeans, and sneakers.
Eddie also hating it but for the reason of it represents The Man and fuck The Man. Like he can dress up nice, but he'd never wear a full suit.
I think Billy would dislike certain kind of suits b/c of (ew) Neil but he loves attention and showing off and looking handsome (pretty) so he'd put so much time and effort into wearing formal clothes.
Agreed. Billy would probably like the energy a suit commands if it's the right one and fits him nicely. But it'd have to be perfect.
Exactly, for billy a suit would have to be the right shade of a certain color and the right texture
Like when Steve shops for clothes, it's quality but it's soft things, it's informal wear.
Billy takes like 3 hrs shopping b/c every outfit has to mean something. There's care and precision in what he chooses to wear for a certain day. And then Eddie occasionally saves up and buy things that he really wants, like his jacket, that are really good quality, but everything else is thrifted.
Steve only wearing informal wear is part rebellion, part 'safety' because he's found happiness in the less formal, in the comfortable.
He's used to cold and formal and fake everything and he hates it.
Eddie picks his most prized pieces because he wants what he wears to say something about himself. Everything he wears tells people "THIS IS ME" and so he works hard to express himself through his clothes. And Billy wants the same thing, but in such a different way that it feels more like drawing eyes quietly where Eddie wants to draw eyes loudly.
Billy has to do it quietly too, b/c his clothes are already a rebellion and him expressing himself as much as he can against Neil.
Especially considering that one of Neil's things is presenting their family as typical middle class white suburbia, even if they aren't that. Eddie, while not in the best socio-economic status, still has the safety and freedom to be loudly himself.
Billy does his rebellion quietly, expresses himself quietly because everything else in his life is loud and aggressive & if he rebels too Loudly™️ Neil will put a stop too it.
Even when Neil is gone eventually, Billy still expresses himself quietly. I think at that point it would be him asking "Are you interested in me enough to see what I'm whispering about me" sort of thing.
He wants people to come to him, get his attention, not the other way around. If they want him enough, or want to be his friends enough, they'll read between his lines.
He's very much used to people not caring or ignoring what's blatantly there so I think he'd care so much for anyone looking below the surface. He's such a sensitive lad at the end of the day. And I think Steve and Eddie would probably notice at completely separate occasions.
They would. By different things.
Steve would notice it by watching him from afar, seeing the little expressions he makes when someone says something to him, or he's interacting with the kids or the other teens, by how he closes up around the adults for a long time.
He sees the longing stares of want when Will hugs Joyce, or Hopper reassures El that she's not in trouble or doing well. He sees the light in his eyes when someone brings up a topic he's passionate about or how he laughs quietly when he's actually amused.
I think Eddie would see it in the way Billy opens up more, how he talks more, or offers more physical touch. How he sticks around in a room for longer periods of times and can withstand people's presence more and more.
Billy craves Togetherness and he's slowly allowing himself to get it.
Eddie notices that and adjusts his own touch accordingly to how open Billy is as time goes on.
Eddie is more aware of himself and how he effects others, so he would be good at keeping psychical boundaries with Billy. I think it would be harder for Steve to do the same, as he always wants to fix things. Steve and Billy can but heads more often for it.
Yeah, I can see that. Eddie is a performer and extra as fuck and can also lead.
I think Eddie knows what to look for on someone to tell whether they're uncomfortable or not, b/c then he uses that to his advantage in making people he dislikes uncomfortable.
Like he knows how to play an audience and I think he'd be able to recognize the performance in a lot of the posturing that Billy does. Like in my mind, Billy when he's not being unhinged b/c he's like elated or enraged, is so fucking mellow.
Half-lidded eyes, soft laughs, small smiles, just generally a lot more quieter, but softer in how he treats everything and everyone.
Steve wants to fix everything b/c he can't seem to fix things at home b/c no one is ever there.
There's no communication and I think Steve probably tries to correct that himself, but stating how he feels and what he wants (unless it's something deeply deeply worrying and then he keeps it to himself. More to protect others than help himself). He also wants to help to feel useful and that can cloud his judgment, in him thinking he's making the right decision for someone when that's not necessarily the case.
And something like that would really get on Billy's nerves I feel
Steve has boundary issues because it was never an issue before with people outside of his home.
He had social boundaries, status boundaries, but he was someone who could do what he wanted in the world of his Peers because he was King Steve. Popular rich boy of the school. It's old remnants of his times before everything went down, the remnants of superiority he feels without realizing it.
It's not necessarily superiority now, but it's effected his ability to recognize when he's pushing a boundary at the detriment of everyone.
Like yes a lot has happened and yes, Steve has had a perspective shift, but he was still king Steve and his parents are still notoriously absent from his life.
He definitely does it without realizing it and I feel like Eddie but definitely Dustin and Robin (and Erica b/c she's not afraid to call someone out on their shit) would tell him whereas Billy would just bite back and tell him to fuck off, why does he even care.
Which is why I feel like Eddie and Billy would be close friends first before Steve and Billy got there.
Agreed. Steve has a little more working on himself to go through before he and Billy can truly connect. Their traumas make them a little bad for each other at first, but once they've both had time to work on their shortcomings and reactions to things, learning how they act affects others and how to better read people, they start to connect.
Like I think Eddie has his own stuff to work through, but he's much farther along I think than they are. (Not taking in crazy Upside Down shenanigans b/c that's a whole other story).
So he can recognize a lot of things b/c unlike them he has a good adult figure that's supportive and caring and works alongside with him. It takes them a little bit longer b/c they kind of have to start on their own which is sad.
It does help that Eddie had Wayne.
I feel like Wayne would be a good influence on Billy especially once Billy gets closer to Eddie. He'd get to have, in a round about way, a healthy male figure in his life. I'm sure it confuses him sometimes, gets worried about saying the wrong things to Wayne, but after a while of seeing how Wayne treats Eddie, he'd open up quickly to the older man.
God, Wayne looking at Billy and being like "thats my kid now." makes my heart ache.
Steve doesn't know how to open up to parental figures because his parent's never opened up to him to begin with. Billy had his mom before all this, Eddie has Wayne.
Steve's unsure around adults, doesn't understand the point in getting close to them because 'he can take care of himself'.
Oh, Steve. He makes me so sad sometimes.
Steve being hyper independent, but especially after the whole breakup thing with Nancy, makes me hurt for him. And yeah, he doesn't have any adults and I don't know what the fuck the teachers and guidance people in Hawkins High are doing, but like clearly not caring a bout their students b/c wtf.
So Steve would definitely pull into the fold much later, his need for Independence slows him down. He doesn't want to be alone, but he feels he needs to prove to everyone he can take care of himself.
He doesn't want to hide away things until he's in his shower, still trying to do better but he's only fixing the things that effect other people and not fixing the things that effect him.
He would have one last final 'big bad emotion' out of all of them. breaking down over something small because he feels like he's punishing himself for something and he knows it's stupid and he knows he should reach out and he just can't so he has this big meltdown before the acceptance comes.
I think a reoccurring argument between Steve and the other two would be them telling Steve to 'say what he means' and not try to dance around what he wants.

BUILDING A CLOSET THAT WORKS FOR YOU
Hi girls! So something I’ve found super important in finding who you are as an individual is finding your fashion/style. It’s so easy to get washed up in trends we see that we buy things that we wont even wear come 6 months layers. Here are some things I’ve done in order to build a closet that is timeless!
Tumblr media
1. INVESTING IN BASICS
I completely understand the urge to buy clothing we see go viral on social media, but more often times than not, we simply like the appeal it has. That doesn’t necessarily mean it correlates with OUR style. Basics work well on everyone, and can be used as a blank canvas for outfits.
White and black tees/tank tops, straight leg jeans, one-colored hoodies, a simply black dress, black slacks and a pair of leggings are all elements I personally think everyone should own.
2. Accessories are your BEST FRIENDS
- Let’s talk jewelry first. In my opinion, investing in quality jewelry is always a better option than simply buying jewelry from cheap stores, such as Shein. They’ll rust easily and won’t last long. Now that doesn’t mean you need to go all out in luxury, there are many stores that have quality jewelry, while remaining in a suitable price range (Mejuri, for example). However, I heavily recommend APM Monaco jewelry if you want to splurge a little. The jewelry there is amazing! I’m not personally a “silver” or “gold” girlie, I like both, and sometimes will even stack them together. This brings me to my second point!! No shame to my minimalistic girls, but i LOVE when my wrists are stacked with bracelets, I feel like it adds SO MUCH to an outfit. That with some chunky hoops and a simple necklace, will elevate your look tenfold.
- Just like jewelry, finding a quality bag goes a long way!! Every girl should have at least one purse that they can use on an every day basis. And there is no excuse, a quality purse can be found at the thrift store. I have so many beautiful bags that have all been thrifted!! However, if you’re looking to purchase one, here are my recommendations (based on overall quality and look): Longchamp, Goyard, Polène, Coach. In my opinion, these are the brands where you can truly find bags that are well-made and can match with most outfits!
3. UNDERSTANDING THAT SHOES ELEVATE ANY OUTFIT
I don’t know if it’s just me, but sometimes I’ll base my whole outfit around my shoes. Shoes are SO powerful and the difference between wearing a sneaker and a heel is massive. I can’t really comment on where to buy quality heels (since I only own a handful, so please let me know in the comments if you know lol), but I’ll put some sneakers down below that I adore!
Sambas, Gazelles, New Balance 550s, Isabel Marant shoes, Golden Gooses, Alexander Mcqueen
4. BUYING A COUPLE OF UNIQUE PIECES
I think that style reflects who we are and investing in a couple unique pieces is definitely the way to go. I personally choose to invest my money in unique sweaters or cardigans (since I live in a relatively cold country). I also tend to find more unique pieces at small businesses, rather than large companies. Pinterest is also the greatest help in finding your own sense of fashion.
Let me know if you would like more links, examples of pieces I would wear!!
so much love,
a girl unfiltered 💋

Creating Characters That Resonate: Some Tips for Memorable Designs
"While tools play a role, it’s our vision that truly matters”
You know that feeling when you see a character from a game, a painting, or a comic and you instantly fall in love with it? It's not just because it looks cool or cute. It's because it has a personality and a story that shines through its appearance. That's what I love about character design: the ability to create characters that make people feel something.
If you are interested in learning the basics of this art form, there are many resources available online 😅. (I will create some tutorials on this soon.) But now I'm not here to lecture you on anatomy or color theory. Instead, I'll share some of my personal tips on how to make your characters unique and engaging for your audience.
Tip 1: Dive Deep into Your Character’s World
Kickstart your design process with inspiration from your own world. This personal touch not only enriches your art but also adds depth and more meaning to your creative process.
Consider this school bully who is based on.. a person I used to know. He’s probably off picking his nose when he’s not on the page! Can you spot him?
Tumblr media
See the bully's backpack 😈? (Illustrated for Swish! by Mahmoud Elzein.)
It’s all about discovering those tiny personal connections that breathe life into a character. Brainstorm with character profiles, create mood boards, and try to figure out “what’s in their pockets”. I’ve found that writing dialogues for my characters helps me visualize their personalities better. Honestly, half the time, I’m imagining how they would annoy each other offscreen!
Tip 2: Play with Shapes to Highlight Inner Conflict
To emphasize a character's inner turmoil, you can use contrasting shapes. By smoothing the edges of sharp shapes, you can reduce the contrast and reveal different aspects of the character.
Tumblr media
“Good or bad?,” I always ask my students.
Experiment with different sizes and shapes and make your characters captivating enough that your viewers accept the visual logic of your art worlds.
Tumblr media
Imagine a gorilla 🦍 and a bee 🐝 as friends in a picture book. How would you draw them in relation to each other?
A good way to enhance the narrative and ease the tension is to break down the character shapes. For example, the bully in Swish! looked threatening at first, but I used his soft facial traits to show his insecurity. I also gave him a loose shoelace to imply that he is not totally in control.
Tumblr media
Even the smallest details can tell a story about your character. (Illustrated for Swish! by Mahmoud Elzein.)
Tip 3: Harness the Power of Color and Value
Contrast is key! Opt for vibrant characters against muted backgrounds, experiment with warm and cool tones, and introduce pops of light against deep shadows for visual drama.
Tumblr media
Contrast and lighting for drama.
Challenge yourself with limited color palettes. This forces you to think creatively and adds an unexpected layer of unity to your work. For the ‘Museum Heist’ piece, I used shades of blue, and it was gratifying when viewers, even those not from the art world, noticed how it influenced the piece.
Tumblr media
The blue tones were a fun challenge 💎
Tip 4: Sprinkle in Details and Accessories
I take sneaky joy in hiding personal details within my illustrations. Maybe it’s my old license plate or a memento from my parents. Details like faded scars and mended clothes add layers to your characters and imply a history, giving them more depth.
Tumblr media
Can you find all the hidden secrets in Ella the Gorilla's room? 🔎 Let's play in the comments! (Book by Mawya Alfadda and Rama Al-Sahreef)
Tip 5: Push the Boundaries with Expressions
Imagine yourself as the director of the scene and your characters as the actors. Hire the best actors and make sure they come with the best: pose, gestures, and outfit, and nail the whole performance.
Don’t just copy the reference! Exaggerate those eye positions, play with asymmetrical half-expressions – this keeps things lively and adds charm.
Tumblr media
Never be afraid to push your reference photos for more whatever-you-call-this characters! 😄
Tip 6: Seek Feedback and Refine
Discord and Telegram groups have been invaluable for me – asking targeted questions (like “Does anything feel off?”) gets me feedback way beyond just “looks nice!”.
How people interact with your WIPs speaks volumes. Don’t just listen to words, watch how long they engage and which elements draw their eyes.
My wife and kids are a great help, especially for children’s book and game art. They notice what I often overlook. I sometimes get annoyed when they don’t like something (I worked on for long), but I know it’s not personal. After all, they’re the best early test for my work.
Bringing It All Together
Character design isn’t just about drawing – it’s about infusing them with personality and emotion that resonates. Let’s keep the conversation going! Share your favorite character design tips in the comments below 👇

fat clothes bullshit
As it is a fact universally known that once you hit double-digit sizes, clothing that isn’t fugly, uncomfortable, or both becomes hard to find on almost a logarithmic scale, I’ve always got an eye out for somewhere that doesn’t appear to hate its customers in order to spend my fat fashion dollar.
Most recently, I succumbed to the Universal Standard hype. The tl;dr: it is well-fitted decent quality basics for people of all sizes (from US size 00- 40). Every piece is available in every size -there aren’t different ‘plus’ styles - and most pieces come in a wide variety of colors.. It’s slightly more expensive than Torrid (about equivalent with Lane Bryant), and unlike either of those options it doesn’t look like 2003 threw up on it and died.
That said, when I say “basics” I do mean basic. There’s some pieces with construction interest to them like the Meridian asymmetric zip jackets, and there’s some tunics and dresses with interesting shapes, but for the most part it is very much wardrobe-staple type items in simple styles and almost zero prints/plaids/pattern of any kind, even just stripes.
In my opinion, that’s perfect because a) I have a deeply ambivalent relationship with girly shit, and b)  I’m a scarf/shawl/cowl knitter and a jewelry maker; solid colors are a great canvas for statement accessories. But if your jam is more high femme and print/detail interest than clean-lined bordering on gender neutral (a good amount of their clothing, although sized and tailored for AFAB, could certainly read nonbinary or agender depending on the pieces), you might find it uninspiring. However, you may still want to consider their pants and tees  as potential infrastructure to rotate more trendy/dainty pieces around if Torrid or LB is doing that for you now and you don’t love the (lack of) durability.
If any of that sounds like you would like to know more, more specific product reviews behind the readmore.
1) the T-rex/V-rex t-shirts are cotton/modal, soft but heavy enough that I didn’t get bra lines, the colors looked pretty faithful to how they were on screen (enough that I was able to match a pair of pants from another vendor and was still happy when able to physically put the two together) they’re neither baggy nor mad clingy/revealing, and they don’t feel like the hems will be unraveling and holes growing around the stitching after a season. The V of the v-neck does what it needs to do without showing bra; the crew neck that I was ambivalent about getting (wanted the color but generally don’t like crew necks) is cut wide enough that it’s got a little style and doesn’t feel like it’s strangling a person. They’re both decently long enough to not ride up and expose your back when you bend over/long enough to tuck in if that’s how you roll (I am 5′7″ for reference). They feel a lot more quality than Torrid’s basic V-necks and come in a LOT more colors, as long as they wash decently these are worth getting. Keep your eye out for sales.
2) the liquid jersey Genevette top - the fabric is amazing, it’s a slinky rayon that for something as soft as it is just falls straight down without sticking weirdly to any lumps, bumps or bulges. It’s an asymmetrical piece that on me at least falls long enough to be a good length to wear with leggings (same place as on the skinnier model displaying it, kudos to the people who graded the pattern and actually knew what they were doing). I’m just praying I don’t dump coffee on it or something. Will definitely acquire more pieces in this fabric if it washes well.
3) The Meridian Zip jacket’s two-way zipper is actually metal and heavy. It’s almost pure cotton and more structured than I was expecting; if you are looking for “cozy” this isn’t it. It is however warm, easy to wear and fashion enough to get away with in a business casual environment iif like me, sweaters make you itchy and blazers are annoyingly constricting and sweaty. (the autistic person’s go-to office layering piece!) Unfortunately, they’re out of a lot of colors right now after their Mystery Box event. II hope they restock or add more, I would definitely buy another one in the steel or navy if they had it in my size.
4) The sweats I got as a “mystery bonus” item I think they are the Hathaway Jersey Jogger - annoyingly, any “mystery” items you get still don’t have what product they are on the tags when you get them. This is dumb, because how are you supposed to order them again if you liked them? Anyway, they are heavy and soft - not fuzzy, but very drapey/silky unlike the Meridian jacket. They DO have pockets and DON’T have a drawstring, which are exactly what I’m looking for in lounge pants, hooray! I don’t know that I would have paid upfront what these cost for something that’s around-the-house or errand pants, but I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out for sales.
5) Universal Standard’s claim to fame are their jeans. To get a taste without a huge price commitment, I got a mystery box with some. I think the ones I ended up with are the Seine skinny midrise in dark wash (again, irritatingly, they are not labeled wth a product name because mystery box.) They are true to size (US gives both size measurements and individual product dimension measurements which is super nice), the waistband is not pinchy and nor does it gap in the back, pockets your whole hand fits in and they don’t creep if you’re getting up and down a lot (LOOKING AT YOU TORRID). The real test of jeans of course is how they come out of their first wash, but they’re a win on try-on and if they wash well, I’d be willing to buy at full price. It gives me some more confidence to try their work pants too, now that I have more faith that their sizing is actually as described.
