Doctor Bruce Banner is lost in IKEA.

While he certainly didn’t expect to find himself in this position, he can appreciate the comedy in it.

But Bruce is lost. Seriously, utterly lost.

The reason for him to even be in IKEA in the first place is simply Tony and Pepper convincing him to accompany them.

Yes, it might seem strange for a soon-to-be married couple to invite just the one friend along to look at furniture for the apartment they scored.

He’s gotten used to their shenanigans by now. Doesn’t mean he still didn’t lift an eyebrow, though.

“We need your help, Bruce, please?” his best friend asked him, and Tony knows that pleading face doesn’t work on him, but still, he wants them to be happy, you know?

In fact, both of them had that matching face on, because they’re perfect for one another, and he’s got this sense of guilt, and nerve in him, because honestly, he’s clueless as to why they’re choosing him for assistance.

He’s always been a nervous person.

Bruce figures an extra pair of hands would be helpful. And it’s not like he’s weak, wouldn’t call himself bulky either, but he can carry his fair amount.

It seemed like his friends might want his input on things as well, judging by the catalogue on they’d put in front of him on the coffee table, with dog-eared pages all around.

“I’m not really good with design and all, fair warning.” he’d said with an awkward chuckle, but Pepper showcased no worry.

“Don’t stress about it, okay? We just need you to decide for us when we disagree on something. You’re a darling.”

“You don’t really disagree on stuff, though.”

Tony blinked at him, “Have you met us?”

Really, the car ride was pleasant, and he loves them to pieces, but Bruce soon got Tony’s point once they were moving through the store, and not more than ten minutes in was forced to judge the lamps his best friends couldn’t seem to decide on.

It’s a month til their wedding, and they’re already acting like an old married couple.

And honestly, the lamps in question looked more or less the same to him, but he didn’t say that, because Pepper had a compelling argument about the placement and size of them, and Tony had to go with the majority, after all.

Regardless, he didn’t have to listen to their bickering for long, which he couldn’t decide if he found heartwarming, amusing or tiring, because somewhere between the kitchen and the office sections, Bruce lost sight of the couple.

Well, that wasn’t ideal.

Truth be told, he was distracting himself with a phone call, and left them looking at paint samples.

And Bruce figured they moved along without him. So it can’t really be his fault, right?

Or maybe they’re lost somewhere else too, who knows.

Thing is, Bruce has been searching this floor for close to half an hour, and now that he’s finally decided to move upstairs, to try his luck, let’s just say he’d really like to meet whoever designed this floor plan.

In fact, after roaming for another ten minutes, he has to admit he’s not sure where the escalators are located anymore.

Maybe he’s walking in circles. How is this even possible?

Honestly, it’s starting to get ridiculous when Bruce finds himself at the plant section, with little idea of how he got there, and also, since when has IKEA got a plant section?

Tony’s told him more than once that he needs to ‘get into the loop’ and ‘not live under a rock’, which really just means his friend has been begging him to start a twitter account.

Especially when he says some pun that’s not even that funny, and Tony laughs almost so hard he can’t breathe.

He can’t say he doesn’t appreciate that support, and confidence boost, though.

Anyway, there must be, like, a map of this floor, or a help desk, right?

Bruce is more or less dumbfounded, stepping out of the way for an elderly couple who are eagerly making their way towards the floor plants, and decides looking out for an IKEA employee might be his best option right now.

Yes, he did actually send Pepper a text, he’d not that out of the loop, but he’s getting no response, and besides, it might help him more if he had an idea of how to not be stuck in all this gardening interior.

But of course, as his luck has it, and Bruce swears he usually looks out for where he’s going, he very nearly smashes a vase that seemingly appeared out of thin air.

He’s in no way a religious person, but Jesus Christ.

Some luck he does have, as if sent like a prayer, when he spots an incredibly tall figure clad in a yellow and blue striped shirt.

And since their back is turned, Bruce figures he’ll politely tap their shoulder and ask for some guidance in a way that doesn’t sound as stupid as it does in his own head.

Good plan.

Or it would be, if he hadn’t tapped said shoulder, and said person turned around, and Bruce stepped back a little and might’ve smashed something for real.

So this has to confirm that he is, indeed, a nervous person, he guesses, because the vision of the stranger is enough to intimidate the doctor.

Well, intimidate sounds like fear, and that’s definitely not it.

Let’s just say this IKEA employee is a head taller, maybe more, who knows, than Bruce, and aforementioned yellow and blue striped uniform is a polo shirt sitting impossibly tighter than he can imagine it’s supposed to.

They’re well trained, to say the least.

In fact, this stranger’s broad shoulders might be launching him into a mental breakdown, and nope, he can’t be freaking out in an IKEA store because someone working there is, seriously, unexplainably attractive.

They even got their blond hair put up in a bun, for real.

And now, Bruce doesn’t really know how to process this encounter, and how to pretend the internal freaking out didn’t just happen, but luckily, real luck this time, the stranger gives him an easy smile on a silver platter.

Thank his non-existent Gods for customer service.

“Careful there, buddy. What can I help you with?”

The voice is soft and gruff at the same time, Bruce doesn’t really know what it is about it, but it’s… that.

His eyes quickly search for nametag, finding it easily on the employee’s (just as broad) chest, which he doesn’t really have the mind to overthink right now, but seriously, this person might just live in a fitness center.

And said nametag showcases Thor, accompanied by My pronouns are he/him.

Of course this giant of a man is named Thor. Bruce can’t even be surprised, really.

His mind manages to circulate back to the fact that he asked you a question, dammit, and the scientist almost stutters out, “I apologise, I, uh, for my clumsiness.”

Thor simply shrugs, staying silent, and seemingly, letting Bruce collect himself and continue.

“And yes, I, eh, was going to ask for your help. My current situation might be slightly embarrassing, however.” he tells him, finally, Bruce nags himself internally, with a small smile he cannot imagine is anything other than awkward.

And the Greek God-esque man in front of him, Bruce should really stop these God-related equations, anyway, chuckles softly in a way he can’t quite believe comes from a man twice the size of himself.

“I doubt it’s anything I haven’t heard before.” Thor, he remembers, tells him, and takes a quick glance behind him, before continuing, “You know how many customers inquire me about watering fake plants?”

And yeah, Bruce has to smile, a little, because he can imagine, and he supposes that remark did relax him about this situation, to some extent.

Not that he still doesn’t think he’s blushing, or fidgeting with his fingers, but this man’s probably used to that right?

Bruce is careful in his thought, because Thor’s most likely been objectified before, and it’s never anything the doctor wants to do, it’s just that this man might as well have walked out of one of his daydreams.

The tall man’s got this easy smile on his face and Bruce thinks he might be going crazy.

What’s gone into him?

To get out of his head, he chuckles just slightly, appreciating Thor attempting, at least, to make him less embarrassed, and, “Well, I- judging by the floor plan, you might’ve gotten this before, I don’t know. I have to admit I’m sort of lost.”

The man in front of him easily chuckles as well, nodding eagerly, resembling some sort of excitement just for a moment, “Oh, tell me about it! Honestly, took me a month before I knew the way around in here.”

Suddenly, Thor doesn’t look like a figment of the doctor’s imagination, but rather, cute in a way Bruce has never thought of men with his physique before.

As established before, these types of encounters, the rare he’s had, makes him a nervous wreck, and not in any way likely to flirt, which, in this case, would be highly uncomfortable for who his attention is devoted to, so it’s definitely for the best his skills are not brushed up upon.

That is, judging by his recent history of romantic relationships, or lack thereof.

He did come out of a long term one and got his heart terribly broken, but that was more than four years ago, and Tony and Pepper had his back, of course, helped him pick up the pieces.

Anyway, let’s just say he hasn’t been eager with going back to the dating market, which he hates calling it but nevertheless, he’s standing in an IKEA, and he really should think about getting back to his friends and not ponder over his mended heart and nonexistent chances with a man who’s, obviously, only this smiling and calm because he’s told to.

Get a grip, Bruce, you have a phd, for science and the modern world’s sake.

He’s quick to realize he needs to pay attention, now, because surely, he can keep his nerves under control for this. Seriously, he must.

“Where did you come from?” the tall man asks him, and it’s only now Bruce notices the cart next to him.

Typical of him to interrupt a dreamy man, not just standing around, but in the middle of a task, really.

He doesn’t usually swear, but fan-fucking-tastic, as Tony would say.

This embarrassment is going to move to the back of his mind, sooner or later, and so he adjust his glasses on his nose, most typical nervous sign really, and ventures on in the conversation.

“First floor, you see, eh…” and Bruce has to chuckle at himself, again, trying to minimize the eye contact with the tall stranger as much as possibly, which, really, shouldn’t be hard considering their height difference, “I lost sight of my friends, and well, here I am.”

Thor nods solemnly, in a way, like he finds this a completely valid reason.

“Okay, this is standard procedure, really, trust me,” he tells him, because apparently Bruce’s demeanor really is obvious, and it’s almost he’s reassuring him, “What section you think they’d wander off to?”

Well, this question boggles the doctor, because he’s not sure at all.

He does know those two like the back of his mind, but also, they went from browsing lamps, to scented candles, to desk chairs, to wall decor that looked like it was taken straight out of a stock photo search on Google.

Dammit, just give the man an answer! In the end, Bruce’s guess is as good as any, he guesses, and maybe Thor’s got some professional IKEA input, too.

And so he clears his throat and replies, “Can I be honest? They’re kind of weirdos, so, not easy. That’s a good thing, though! They’re newly engaged and took me here to help them find new decor, so…”

“Ah! The neutral third part when disagreements occur, I assume?”

This man’s got a certain pitch in his voice, like someone straight out of film school, Bruce wants to say, like he spent many days on learning Shakespeare plays by heart.

He’s not very versed on theater, himself, he’s only become familiar with this kind of voice by Brunnhilde. Once she’d broke through, he noticed what it was about her tone, and really, it barely changed at all.

It’s like she was born for it, which sounds like an old Hollywood drama, but there you go.

Maybe something about the way she carried herself helped, he supposed, but he still can’t anymore of a finger on it than that.

It smoothes out the voice in certain way. He imagines they know a lot of poetry, those actors.

She told him she’d been to voice coaches and such, besides auditioning, and demonstrated for him time and time again when she needed help practising, and Carol wasn’t available.

Maybe he’s an aspiring actor as well, or something similar, but it’s not like Bruce can ponder on this right now. Sometimes he feels like his brain’s got a life of its own, at least working at double speed.

“Hit the nail on the head, as you say, heh.”

Thor nods once more, and he latches onto this aforementioned cart, which appears fully loaded, and well, Bruce can admire the strength in his forearms, right?

Totally normal. It’s cool, Doctor Banner, you’re being real slick about this.

“Say, I’m not in any way experienced with reading people- or well, tracking them down, I suppose.” the God-like man told him - really, these God comparisons gotta stop - with what he hopes is a lighthearted chuckle, damn, he’s trained well with that smile overpowering most of his features.

Thor continues, “The cafeteria’s pretty much a meeting spot in cases like this, I mean, if it’s of any help to go there?”

Bruce just can’t help smiling back, can he? In any case, it’s becoming more natural for him now, less strained, the man fading less from an otherworldly state and more to quietly admirable.

“That would be lovely. I fear I might disappear from the surface of the earth completely if I keep wandering around like this.”

Right, tell a joke, they’re both laughing, it’s fine. Stop staring Bruce, you’ve thought about how tall he is a million times by now, really?!

In less than a second, the cart’s turned around, and Thor removes a strand of blond hair from his hair, before he starts moving, dear God, is he a marathon runner or something?

“The elevator’s by here, somewhere, don’t worry, I got this.” he tells the doctor, as if he ever doubted his ability in any way, and Thor did quickly realize his pace, slowing down at the first corner, allowing the shorter man to catch up.

“No offense, but this place is a goddamn maze.” Bruce says, slightly surprised when they make it the elevator, like it’s a secret land he would’ve never found on his own. Luckily, Thor’s still not fazed.

Chuckling, still. You got this under control, Bruce. Somehow.

The cafeteria’s queue is abnormally long, the soda has definitely been sitting out for a while, the meatballs are steaming hot.

There’s too much noise for Bruce’s liking, but he doesn’t really have much choice of where to go right now.

But today still holds surprises, clearly.

The doctor expressed his gratitude to Thor for leading him this way, which really was hilariously easy now that he thinks about it, but you know, the elevator was actually hidden away, so.

It’s not like he can justify it for himself anymore, so he’ll just give up on it.

The thing is, Bruce in no way expected the handsome stranger to help him anymore so than guiding him here. Only when they stand in the foyer, looking out at the many sterile white tables for customers to have their lunch at, he tells him to stay where he is.

Well obviously, he might get lost again, and there’s no way he wants a second wave of embarrassment right now. But also, surely, Thor has to keep going with whatever business he’s doing?

It seems the man notices Bruce’s scrunched brow, since he dishes out further explanation a few seconds later, “I have to bring this down to storage. It only takes five minutes, trust me!”

Bruce can’t say he expected that. He doesn’t have time to answer, anyway, because Thor once again picks up a pace as if he’s running for his life, and is gone before he knows it.

Guess he’ll stay put. Guess he’ll try to not stand awkwardly around as mothers and children and students are milling around him. It’s easier said than done.

Luckily, because damn, that thing really is with him today, huh?

Well, a minor misadventure, which led him to luck. That could mean something, but Bruce can’t think of that much, because, luckily , just as the fidgeting returns for, like, the 20th time, his phone buzzes in his backpocket.

Of course, Pepper’s texting him now, thank god , because he might go out and trip over himself if that Greek God himself returns, which, conveniently, he does as that moment.

It’s almost like he’s smiling even more now, if that’s even possible.

And he watches Thor wipe sweat off of his forehead with one eye, replies back to Pepper with an urgency, and she’s calm, because she manages to do that in almost any situation, she’s gotten used to Tony, after all, and lets them know his location.

“Hey, buddy!” the tall man comes to a stop, puts both his hands on his hips and shoots a look toward the bustling queue, which, after all, is significantly shorter now, they all work quickly around here, huh.

“You hear from your friends?” he continues his sentence, maybe because Bruce doesn’t know what to answer and he’s freaking out, maybe because he’s simply curious. It’s a 50/50, really.

Again, he really should stop thinking of a million things at once, and nods instead, and now, for some reason, Thor’s got them drinks and a table, kindly offering to wait with Bruce till Tony and Pepper’s finished with their shopping.

Well, he doesn’t offer as much as tells him, makes his way to the queue even though the doctor was about to refuse, but the deed is done, anyway, and he appreciates it.

Bruce does wonder the tall man’s going to get in trouble, though. Surely, hanging out with a customer can’t be allowed?

“You know, uh, you don’t have to wait with me.” he can’t help chuckling awkwardly, because everything he does becomes awkward around Thor, who seems so easy going, it’s insane, “I don’t want you to get in trouble with your boss.”

The stranger, or, not really a stranger anymore, he supposes, is eating like he hadn’t breakfast, which does worry Bruce, but he shakes his head and gulps down some more soda before he speaks.

“Oh no, it’s fine. I was overdue for a lunch break, anyway.”

And he can’t help but just shrug.

A small smile isn’t totally awkward, right? This is fine. Just two dudes hanging out. Thor’s on his goddamn lunch break, he’s working , Bruce, what did you expect?

“Besides, don’t tell anyone I said this, but the conversations my coworkers usually engage in are, um,” he turns his head, and nope, only customers in sight for now, surely those behind the counter can’t hear what he wants to say, “rather dull.”

Okay, he has to laugh a little bit. Because Thor’s laughing, that is.

He’s kind of, sort of, insulting someone, but he’s being so incredibly nice about it. As nice as possible.

And now, he’s totally not watching him, come on, they’re having a conversation, this man seems to be fidgeting now.

In a different way than Bruce, surely, kind of like an excited labrador who’s owner just come home after a two week vacation.

It’s cute. Shut up, he can find him cute, not only teenagers say that, right?

Bruce is feeling like a teenager, seeing some jock in a varsity jacket walking down the hall, every student eager to just have him look at you, just once. Maybe he’s been there before. He barely knows this man, keep it together!

Him beating up himself is interrupted by Thor, again, “Do you mind if I am a tiny bit nosy?”

The doctor blinks. “I guess it depends on what topic we’re discussing.”

Thor gulps some more soda. Bruce truly has to wonder if IKEA feeds their employees at all.

“Right! Right. I just thought, since you know my name, you know, I might be allowed to ask your name.”

And another surprise. More shock, maybe. Definitely not what he expected him to ask, but what did he expect, really?

Bruce does smile, and it’s like, okay, this is casual, it’s like the customer service barrier is a bit broken down now, “Of course. It’s Bruce.”

Thor nods again, excitedly. Excited about everything.

And he’s not usually like this, but this man’s attitude is sort of rubbing off on him. Weird.

“What do you do, Bruce?” and Thor’s constantly removing strands of hair from that worn out bun, “Other than being a good friend, that is.”

Now why does he have to go and compliment him? It’s thrown out like it’s nothing, like it’s easy, and his self hatred won’t let him say it’s easy, but he takes it, because it seems like Thor means it. He hopes so, anyway.

He does laugh, to keep a little distance, “Uh, well, I’m a professor.”

Bruce doesn’t exactly like to advertise, and shout out to the world about his PhDs. No, he’s proud of his work, don’t get him wrong.

But he doesn’t feel particularly impressive compared to some of his role models, who progressed faster than himself, and anyway, he isn’t great with compliments. As is obvious from this conversation.

Needless to say, if this man gets anymore excited, he might just explode in front of him.

“Holy shit,” he blurts, he assumes, because oh, how the tables turned, when the embarrassment Bruce has been feeling is mirrored on Thor’s face, “oh, dear God, sorry for my language. But I love that. I’m afraid I’m just an actor.”

So, he guessed right, he notes. Doesn’t really know what do with that assumption.

“That’s not really a just, is it?”

He shrugs.

They’re both too humble for their own good, in the end, Bruce thinks. At least Thor is only slightly visibly upset when he brushes off the compliments, or at least, tries to signal to his new acquaintance that his work really isn’t that big of a deal.

He does tell him more details when Thor asks, of course, he’s always been relatively polite, hopefully, but Bruce has never been good at not comparing himself to others, as you might’ve guessed.

“That is a big deal, though!” the tall man says, sounding more sincere than anyone Bruce has ever met, “You are brilliant.”

He’s not blushing. Not at all, except he is, a little bit, anyway, “I mean, I- thank you. We’ve only still just me, though.”

“I can tell. And we shouldn’t underestimate ourselves. I’m still learning that, as you can tell.”

Of course, he’s right. Of course, this man encourages a relative stranger to be confident. Of course, it’s lovely.

And this conversation goes on forever, which probably isn’t realistic, he’s aware, but well, Bruce is getting comfortable.

It’s stupid, he shouldn’t, he knows.

But this man is so friendly. Endearing. And he has to think, honestly, how can anyone not immediately be drawn to him?

Thor does tell a lot of kind of ridiculous jokes. That’s endearing too, dammit.

Also, maybe, Bruce wants to spit out his soda when the half God, half man asks him for scientifically related pick up lines. He doesn’t, of course, he’s not an animal.

This can be restrained, sure, and it’s not like his new… friend means anything by it. Really, this is just a once in a lifetime acquaintance. Probably never going to see each other again.

But it’s a fun run.

Maybe he should just thank his lucky stars for this. Maybe Bruce should just get his head out of his ass and go on an actual date, instead of getting nervous about someone in a goddamn furniture store.

Thing is, this nice time ends far too quickly, not soon after the doctor’s almost, completely relaxed, as much excitement as this one man contains, it soothes his nerves. That’s ridiculous, isn’t it?

At least, it’s like Thor can tell how embarrassed he is, and cancels it out by telling embarrassment stories of his own.

Or spilling ketchup on his uniform button up, newly washed, even. Bruce would feel bad for finding it a little funny, if the man didn’t laugh at himself and smack himself in the head.

The self awareness is admirable. The doctor still doesn’t laugh, because he’s just, God, way too empathetic. He feels bad for him.

But yes, it does end, because Tony’s familiar exclaim of “Brucie!” wakes him up from whatever dumb haze this is.

No more time to get lost in this impossible relation. Sadly.

Of course, his friends’ cart is filled to the brim. They have a bag, too.

Pepper rushes for a hug, because she’s a sweetheart and worries too much, as usual, “Thank God! Oh Bruce, I feel terrible we lost you.”

And he pats her shoulder in reassurance, chuckles, casts a glimpse to Thor, who’s standing there like an overgrown puppy, assuming they’ll part ways soon, “I got by, thankfully.”

Indeed he did. After a small exchange not much time passes before Thor has to go back to work (really, how long of a break is he allowed?) Bruce wonders, because surely more than half an hour must’ve gone by.

And the doctor thanks him for the help for the millionth time, like the other times weren’t enough, but he appreciates it, and whatever this relation is, but he doesn’t mention that last part, of course.

The blond man is humble again. Of course.

And, of course, Tony teases him for about the whole car ride to Bruce’s flat about how he ‘was saved by a tall handsome stranger’, and he ‘should’ve made a move, surely’.

It’s not like he disagrees with the savior part.

Pepper shakes her head along with him.

Maybe, for once, Tony’s right about something, to his credit, because Bruce spent a lot of time convincing him, and himself, that the man was just being polite when offering to wait with him.

And the conversation, too, as genuine as it felt.

Needless to say, the slip of notepad paper with the Ikea logo on tip that the doctor finds in his jacket pocket a day late, written on in what might be the most pleasing handwriting he’s seen in a while, was surprising.

There's also a phone number.

This is breaking all the protocols, and I am terrified that you will be offended, I sincerely apologise if so, I in no way want to make you uncomfortable.

I did enjoy our conversation very much. I would also enjoy the opportunity to see you again, if you agree, perhaps with other surroundings than Swedish furniture.

And don’t worry, you followed the rules correctly. It’s funny how you mentioned Earth and Air placements + Libra because I don’t have any of these in my natal chart, I’m a Water and Fire dominant. However, the chart of my blog is an Earth and Air dominant with a Libra Sun and Rising! You were spot-on 🥰

First thing first, I must say that I think it’s more probable to meet our soulmates than our twin flame. In my opinion, a twin flame doesn’t necessarily reincarnate in the same lifetime as you and I partially disagree with the romanticizing things happening around this type of bond… Twin flames are actually very toxic and destructive, because they represent two souls coming initially from one soul, and thus they’re mirroring each other. But while one represents the “good” traits of this soul, the other exudes all the toxic traits. While one is willing to work to improve himself, the other is generally reluctant and stays all his life in the darkness of his experiences. Yes, the bond is strong, magnetic, irreplaceable, but you have to be aware that the love you hold for each other will be as intense as the pain you will feel together. I know someone who had been with his twin flame for a while and… I wish no one to go through what they endured. When it comes to soulmates, I think we all have several soulmates, whether they are romantic, platonic, or family ones. Thinking about it, we meet many people in only one life, therefore, imagine the number of people who impacted your soul during all these past lifetimes! November 28: STID Again

From the writer of “I re-watched ST XI for the second time in 2 months” comes “I re-watched STID for the second time in 2 months”! And here are my thoughts.

This film still sucks but it sucked a little less this time because I’d adjusted my expectations accordingly. Also I’d already spent my rage on some of the... bigger, more general rage-inducing things, including the underwear scene, the white-washing, Pike’s death, and Spock’s reaction to Kirk dying.

I got angrier about the S/U stuff than I did watching ST XI because there truly seemed to be no point to it at all. At least in ST XI you felt like they did it for some kinda reasons--dumb reasons like “Spock needs comforting” and or “funny gag about the hero not getting the girl”--but reasons. They would have been better off just not mentioning that Spock and Uhura were a thing in this film. They barely do anything with it, and everything they do makes either Uhura specifically or both of them as a unit look bad: how she wrings her hands and clutches her pearls when he’s in danger (uh, have you noticed what both your jobs are lol?); how they fight in the middle of a mission, thus endangering themselves and their Captain; how she just sneaks into background shots for the rest of the film whenever things look Too Gay to remind you that Spock totally has a girlfriend and totally isn’t into the Captain because no homo right fellas??

Also yet again Spock seems pretty well checked out of this relationship. He may use the Vulcan excuse but let me tell ya he looked AWFULLY confused when she kissed him after the little Klingon cosplay interlude thing. Like he barely kissed back and then when she walked away he looked after her like “What was that??”

Anyway I did enjoy the times when Spock was clearly jealous of Carol Marcus. He was probably at his most IC there: Spock seeing a woman even glance at the Captain and immediately becoming a petty, dramatic bitch to her is very TOS.

Overall, this was the Kirk Show, which would usually fly well with me because I love him your honor, but they ALSO simultaneously butchered his character, which really soured the experience. Like they really, really did him dirty throughout. He’s reckless, he’s a liar, he’s arrogant, he’s slutty, he’s vengeful, he’s an obvious pawn for Bad People in the Bad Starfleet, he’s immoral, he’s easily played, he’s slutty again... and then toward the end of the film he starts learning some lessons and then sacrifices himself heroically. But he basically has to learn to be the sort of person I feel like Kirk just is inherently, which made me feel like he was being written by people who just didn’t get him at all. Which is hard to watch.

I think CPIne did a good job of forcibly pulling him toward something like IC characterization wherever possible, though. I really liked him in the conversation with Admiral Marcus. He turned on the charm and that “who me?” kind of attitude to look defenseless while he was actually scheming. Also I totally noticed him sneaking in some flirty looks with both Spock and Bones.

I don’t know how I feel about the Spock characterization in this movie. I felt like he was really annoying in the early parts of the film. And I disagree that he’s this big rule follower because come ON fools have you SEEN TOS? He’s logical, that’s not the same thing as being a stickler for regulations. He could certainly cite them and there are scenes where he goes up against McCoy in particular about the rules, but you could just as easily find scenes where Kirk or McCoy cites or uses regulations to his advantage because the truth is ALL of these people are very smart, competent, and good at their jobs and ALL of them are professional career military and care about doing things the right way. But you’d never get ANY of that from AOS.

Not to circle back too obviously here but I grow very weary with the no-homo-ness of this film/series. The constant placement of Uhura in scenes or even individual shots where she doesn’t need to be, lest anyone forget that Spock likes the ladies; the weird disconnect between the events influencing Kirk and Spock’s relationship (literally saving each other’s lives) and the lesson they learn from it (”We’re bros! Friends for life!”); just how few scenes they were even allowed to have with each other. But honestly mostly the second thing. So much effort is put into Kirk saving Spock in the beginning and making this into a big deal (even though he would have done that for any crew member imo) and then of course Kirk’s (almost) death is the big teary climax of the film and all that and ALL he says in his final moments are “I need you to understand why I didn’t let you die” and ALL Spock can say is “We’re friends.” YEAH DUH BITCH WHAT DID YOU THINK YOU WERE COWORKERS?

So frustrating.

Things I did definitely like: Kirk looking mighty fine (I’m just gonna say it, he looks prettiest in STID); Pike (though I’m still angry at his death); the radiation-chamber scene (even though it was spoiled a little by that dumbass angry Khan yell)...that might be it. Oh and McCoy/Carol Marcus flirting. I liked Carol in general despite her few moments of weird ditziness.

STID is not a good film, and it’s certainly not a good Star Trek film--for some reason it decides to spend a large amount of time being Transformers, Star Wars, a Sad English Drama, a Gritty, Dark Military Drama, literally anything but Star Trek, which it never TRULY was, in the sense of “space utopia”--but it is watchable. Unlike Beyond which, as far as I can remember from the last time I saw it probably no later than 2017, really is not.

...I’m probably still going to attempt to rewatch it at some point though.

Kalafina Singing Analysis

I have been watching a lot of Kalafina live recently, and I thought it would be fun to analyse how the girls sing, and how their abilities have changed throughout the years of them being in Kalafina. I will be covering each of the girls (in order of Wakana, Keiko and Hikaru). I would love any constructive criticism or any other points.

Note: I am not a professional singer or a singing teacher. I just thought it would be interesting for analyse each of Kalafina’s members singing techniques, the good and the bad, with what knowledge I do have about singing. I have been singing for 7 years, been in many choirs both in school and out. I have been taught by different singing teachers. I am also not perfect, I have many flaws in my singing as well, but myself pointing flaws out in the girls does not mean that I am saying that I am any better.

In order to clarify for later parts:

For the voice range information, I have recorded instances of all the girls singing not just in Kalafina Songs, but in FictionJunction songs and lives, as well as covers on TV, Kalafina Club Openings, and Wakana’s Solo Album With that, let’s get started.

Wakana has always been a soprano. There are lots of different sources on what the range of a soprano is, Choirly.com says that the soprano range is B3 - G6, but both wikipedia (including a cited source) and musicnotes.com says that the soprano range lies between C4 and C6. The highest notes I have recorded Wakana reaching is G5# in her falsetto/head voice and I’m sure she can reach higher. The lowest note she has been recorded to reach is F3 (in Kioku no Hito) but I do not consider that a low note she can reach comfortably, the note is very breathy and weak and barely audible, especially later in the song. The lowest note I would consider Wakana to somewhat comfortably reach, even though it is breathy, is A3. In terms of range alone, Wakana could be considered a Mezzo-Soprano, but I think her timbre is what sets her apart. Wakana’s voice is quite high-pitched. Even when she hits notes that are not particularly high for a soprano, it sounds high and impressive because her voice is so high pitched. This is a bit random, but a lot of people say that they believe Wakana’s voice took a full 180 in 2012, but I argue that it had been getting more high pitched for a while before then. Compare Wakana’s voice in ARIA from their Live in 2008 to the Red Moon Live in 2010, it does sound more high pitched.

More on tone, Wakana’s voice used to be a lot fuller than it is now. It had a lot more strength and power in earlier songs and lives, it has became a lot weaker over the years and I think this shows especially in the most recent lives, when her voice would almost jump off in between notes as if it was barely holding on (I take serenato and Kizuato from the 10th Anniversary Live as examples). Her voice is a lot quieter than Keiko and Hikaru’s even at her most powerful. Wakana’s voice was full because of her tone, but then her power became backed by a overuse of nasal placement. In the After Eden Live and Kalafina’s performances in the Type Moon Fes. 2012, Wakana’s higher pitched voice accompanied by a honky tone was there for a while until late 2012 to 2013, where her voice almost seemed to lose power almost completely. Wakana’s voice is incredibly thin and weak during the consolation live and similarly in the 2014 live tour and the FictionJunction elemental tour. Her voice has somewhat recovered since then to a place where she sounds mostly comfortable in her current voice tone. She still has some honky moments, which I don’t think sound nice at all, but when her voice is clear I find it to be the most beautiful (i.e. most of Ai no Hana). I disagree when some people say that her current voice sounds like her ‘old voice’, because there are so many things that are different and she will probably never be able to sound like how she was back in the early Kalafina/FictionJunction days, but that’s not a bad thing necessarily.

Now let’s talk about technique. There are some parts of her technique that I find professional, she doesn’t move around a lot when singing particularly hard parts, her feet are always grounded and her posture is straight. However there are some parts (a few actually) of her singing technique that bothers me. Her breathing is quite loud and inconsistent. When breathing in between lines, you should keep your shoulders level and your breath sharp, almost as if you’re gasping or yawning so that you can open your diapghram and breathe deeply, but Wakana usually lifts her shoulders and her chest is shown to expand more that her stomach area most times when she takes a breath, this leads to her voice being strained and weak in certain instances and isn’t good for professional singers. Additionally, Wakana keeps her face quite strained when she sings. Her eyebrows are almost always furrowed. I don’t know if it’s just a habit that makes it easy for Wakana to sing or if it’s a sign that that she has trouble singing, but it can cause trouble for her. Wakana also tends to keep her head down when she sings particularly high notes, both in her high voice and falsetto. This is NOT a good way to sing high notes, your head needs to be level so that you’re not straining your vocal chords. And especially because she mostly sings from her chest, this can be very straining on her voice. Whenever she is singing, Wakana is usually still. Her feet stay in place, but she is constantly moving the top of her body as she changes lines and hits certain notes. She can move rather violently whenever she breaths quickly, especially because it’s from her chest. This causes a problem in control.

I know my analysis does sound mostly critical (maybe a bit petty) and negative, but I do think Wakana has come strides and I still love her voice most of the time. I’m very proud of Wakana for overcoming her obstacles and being mostly comfortable with where she is now, both voice and career wise. In fact I think she sounds the best now than she has in years.

Keiko’s voice is the only one of the three members to have not changed drastically over Kalafina’s career. Based on range alone, I would consider Keiko to be either an alto or a mezzo-soprano. She can reach notes in a chest voice that mezzos or sopranos can reach. The highest note in her chest voice I have recorded is an E5 from Yuki Kajiura’s Vol #1 Live almost 11 years ago, but her chest voice range has decreased about half an octave since then. Keiko has the widest (recorded) range out of the three girls being 2 and a half octaves (Wakana being 2 octaves and Hikaru currently being 1 and a half). However based on timbre, Keiko is very obviously an alto or contralto. Her voice is very deep and it is her most distinguishing feature, it can make notes sound lower than what they actually are. For example, her solo notes in 'to the beginning’ range from C4 to E4 and you wouldn’t be able to tell those notes are in her middle range unless you measured it (As a soprano, I certainly think they were low).

Keiko’s voice is incredibly versatile. She can sing very quiet or very loud and everything in between. Her voice is very full and her belting is incredibly powerful, but she can also pull her volume back and sing very delicately. Keiko can sing happy songs, dark songs, sad songs and so much more. Although she can sing low, her voice gets breathy below E3. Her falsetto is also quite full, probably the best out of the group; Keiko uses lots of support and it is very resonant. Keiko’s voice has not changed very much throughout her years in Kalafina, except becoming more full and controlled. In the studio recording of 'Kaze no Machi e’, her voice is quite breathy. I’m not sure if this was a stylistic choice, but she has certainly changed it. About 4 years into Kalafina’ career, from around 2011 - 2012, Keiko started singing in a kind of 'shouty’ way. This is especially evident in the After Eden 2011 Live, very much so in 'Mune no Yukue’, 'destination unknown’ and 'fantasia’ which is very belted and loud (almost unnecessarily so), this has most certainly been changed in later years with later performances being much more controlled. Keiko also frequently does what’s not professionally called 'vocal hiccups’, which is where you end a note with a squeaky note (it’s really hard to describe but she does it a lot). This is usually used to express emotion and in my opinion she does this a little bit too much, she has been shown to do it when the notes are in her middle to low range (I use the second chorus of 'destination unknown’ from the Blue Day LIVE 'stone cold’ from the Yuki Kajiura LIVE Vol.9 as examples).

I think that Keiko’s techniques are very admirable (except the vocal hiccups I mentioned earlier), She exercises a lot more than Wakana and Hikaru and she certainly has a lot more stamina and can afford to exert a lot more energy and power in not only her vocals but in her stage presence. Keiko’s energy has changed quite a bit over the years, she has become much more reserved in her energy when singing energetic songs, but she is still able to run and jump across the stage while singing even though she doesn’t do it much anymore. Her stance while on stage is usually good; Her posture isn’t perfect but it is usually very consistent, along with her breathing. Whenever Keiko breaths it is usually very sharp, quiet and even across her chest and diaphragm. I have seen her sometimes breath only through her nose before a line and I find that very interesting. Her diction isn’t very consistent though, she usually smiles to get a wide sound on her 'a’ and 'e’ sounds and makes her mouth narrow for 'u’ and 'o’ sounds, but she is very quick to change the sound of the vowels when she gets happy and really smiles and her 'u’ becoming tight. Normally this is a stylistic choice; her vowels get more narrow when she sings happier or poppier songs ('Samidare’ from 9+ONE LIVE, 'Kimi ga Hikari ni’ from Type Moon Fes. LIVE), and when she sings dark songs she lowers her jaw significantly in order to get that dark sound ('lirica’ from 10th Anniversary LIVE 'Kagayaku Sora no Shijima ni wa’ from Lisani LIVE 2017 w/ LiSA). The only times these choices really bother me is when they aren’t necessary for the tone of the song, which some people call her 'cutesy voice’ (she also makes her pitch higher when singing like this), especially during sad songs and honestly it bothers me sometimes as well.

Overall, I don’t think there is much to criticise when it comes to Keiko’s singing. Her voice is certainly my favourite because of its deep and powerful tone and how versatile it is and I think her techniques and consistency is a lot to admire. I certainly look forward to what she does in the future.

Hikaru’s singing voice is an interesting case of almost a complete 180 in tone and range, both good and bad. Near the start of Kalafina’s career, I would consider Hikaru a mezzo-soprano based on her range (she is still considered that , but Hikaru has been an alto in my eyes (and ears) for almost 6 years now) Hikaru used to be able to sing up to almost an E5, but now she can barely reach an F4 or higher without sounding strained. This is almost an octave erased from her chest voice range in six years. She does sing notes higher than this but they are in a region that sounds too strained and almost like she’s shouting. It certainly isn’t a comfortable range (I take 'Manten’ or 'Hikari no Senritsu’ from the 10th Anniversary LIVE as examples of how strained her voice sounds). The tone of Hikaru’s voice has changed a few times over the years. At the very beginning of Kalafina, her voice was high pitched, but from around 2009 - mid 2012, her voice deepened. After late 2012 - present, her singing voice has returned to being much more high pitched as her chest voice range has decreased. I would consider Hikaru an alto, because even though her low notes don’t sound as deep as they used to, she cannot sing nowhere near up to Keiko’s head voice range. I hate to compare her to another singer, but to someone who used to be a mezzo-soprano compared to someone who’s supposed to be an alto, even contralto, these differences cannot be ignored.

Continuing with the tone of her voice, Hikaru is able to be quite loud. I have not heard her sing live myself but I think through what I’ve seen, when she sings notes in her comfortable range she can almost belt the notes. When singing in a range that she’s not comfortable in, she becomes a fair bit quieter because she isn’t able to back herself up and it becomes almost like shouting. Hikaru’s control of her voice has remained mostly the same throughout her career. It seems quite hard for her to lower her voice when she is singing in her higher comfortable range (I use 'Tonbo’ Studio Version, 'Gogatsu no Mahou’ from 9+ONE LIVE as examples and 'Haru wa Kogane…’ from the Red Moon LIVE as examples). I really hate how she just belts out random notes sometimes when they get to be a little higher instead of keeping a controlled tone, I think it’s the weakest part of her technique and is one of the main reasons why I hate listening to 'Tonbo’ so much,One thing I think has improved in her voice is the nasality. In the early Kalafina years, her voice was very nasally and that was where some of the support for her high notes came from. You can hear it sometimes when she sung 'n’ sounds, the note was almost completely omitted. As her voice range changed over the years, so did her use of nasal in her voice. It is still there sometimes, but more in the background. A point of interest for many people for Hikaru’s voice is her falsetto and it’s interesting, she basically doesn’t use any support in her voice when reaching those notes. This leads to those falsetto notes being light, airy and very quiet. I think this is very strange in a professional singer, but it could be just a stylistic choice. I think it is one of the weaker aspects of her voice.

In a technique aspect, Hikaru has both strong and weak points, much like Wakana. Her breathing is very even across her diaphragm and her chest, and so her breathing is quiet (except for when she’s tired, obviously). Her stance is mostly very still and although she does move around a lot during energetic songs, her feet stay grounded no matter how she’s standing. Hikaru used to keep her head very level as she sung, but now she sings with her chin way up, which is a little weird but I can’t really comment on it because I’ve heard both good and bad things about it. Her facial expressions are interesting. Her eyebrows are usually furrowed in order to display emotion when she’s singing (and even when she’s not), her face is rarely relaxed. I have heard some criticism about Hikaru “focusing more on looking angry rather than singing” and I think that’s true to an extent. It seems really important to Hikaru to convey emotion to the audience in any way she can, and it doesn’t seem that it particularly bothers her. In many other songs when she struggles on a verse or a line, her facial features slacken a little so a neutral expression, so its almost like she focuses when she really needs to. On the other hand, Hikaru tends to scrunch her face up when she’s straining high notes sometimes, which is a little worrying, so overall its a bit of a mystery to me. Additionally, her dictation is good, not too wide and not too small - overall pretty consistent. Although one part of Hikaru’s technique that has formed more recently is her posture. Hikaru used to stand up straight, but she has started to sing with her back hunched over, and this is a general 'no-no’ when it comes to singing techniques. Singing with a hunched back results in a lack of control and she has been doing it for a few years now (I use sprinter from the Arena Live as an example).

Overall, I don’t like Hikaru’s voice as much as I used to and that’s mainly a matter of preference. However I do believe that she can improve and sing songs that are more in her comfortable range so she can work to improve her technique and not damage her voice in the long run. My analysis of Hikaru has been quite negative, but I still love her to pieces!

Classes: Thief and Rogue, Knight and Maid

Alright, so, to start off my more open approach to posting here, I’m going to start with my general theory's on Classpects in general, starting with Classes!! Unlike Aspect, which everyone PRETTY MUCH all agreed on how they were paired before being canonized, Class is kind of something no one TOTALLY agrees on. Id have a hard time finding anyone who agrees on everything about class details, inversions, and pairings. So I’m gonna start with that!! First, something no one particularly disagrees with...

The Stealing Classes, Thief and Rogue!

This is pretty well agreed upon because it’s one of the class pairings that had been canonically confirmed!

Wile Calliopes theories has been shown to be about as credible as any of ours (Ex: Gendered Classes), but this seems VERY plausible!

Thieves, being the Active class, steal their Aspect from others! This can be seen by Vriska (Thief of Light) stealing Luck from enemies and thus having MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF LUCK!!!!!!!! It isn’t CLEARLY seen from Meenah (Thief of Life), other then BRIEFLY during Collide, but we can see it metaphorically present in Her Imperious Condescension when she enslaves multiple people and subjugates her species!

Rogues, being the Passive class, steal their Aspect NOT NECESSARILY FROM PEOPLE and distributes it to the team! This can be seen by Roxy (Rogue of Void) when she steals the nonexistence from the Matriorb and gives it to Kanaya! These traits aren’t seen very clearly in Nepeta (Rogue of Heart) and Rufioh (Rogue of Breath), and I theorize that this is because they haven't denied their aspect! You see, Roxy denied her Aspect when she quit her drinking, committing herself to clarity! Whereas Nepeta struggles when shes pining over someone and Rufioh suffers with his general attitude of just doing what he wants and going with the flow. At least that’s my interpenetration of why! This leads me to believe that the quest of a Rogue is to rebel against their aspect, (Being called a Rogue, it makes sense) and not play by it’s rules!

Now here comes a theory Idk if a lot of people will agree with me on lol

The Protecting Classes, Knight and Maid

This is a pretty good group because we have two Players of the same aspect in this pair, Dave (Knight of Time) and Aradia (Maid of Time) and we also have two players of the same Aspect and opposite class, Jane (Maid of Life) and Meenah (Thief of Life)!! If you think this theory is totally bull already, please hear me out.

Knights, being the active class, weaponize their Aspect to protect their Aspect! Offence is the best Defense, so to speak! You can see Dave literally weaponize his Aspect when he uses changing his swords placement in time to better defeat enemies! Dave is very careful to keep the Alpha Timeline safe, and Karkat does a lot to help the safety of the team, like prohibiting sleeping or leaving the room (Which almost no one followed but still). Now, although we get the best specifics on Dave’s journey, we can pretty clearly see that Knights tend to have some sort of insecurity or something along those lines that they keep up a shield to protect themselves from. This can form in many ways! Literally, Dave keeps on his glasses to hide his emotions! Metaphorically, he keeps up his cool kid shtick to appease Bro. Literally, Karkat keeps his text gray to hide his mutation, but metaphorically Karkat keeps up his anger and shouting to convince everyone he is a ruthless and badass leader. and Latula has a r4d front because shes insecure about not being a kickass enough girl. I believe that shows a Knights quest is to let down their shield (Metaphorical not literal) and use their Aspect to strengthen them!

Maids, being the passive class, protect their fellow players with their Aspect /protect their Aspect in their fellow players! We can see Aradia do this by freezing Jack to buy her team time, and we can see Jane do this with her revival powers! I think Maids gain general defensive abilities! It seems that Maids typically get walked on by their Aspect OR for their Aspect. Aradia was walked on by Time in the form of death and used by DD for Destruction. Jane was walked on by Life during the events of their session when Jane gets ignored by her friends (except Roxy because shes good and pure). I think a Maids quest is to stand up to 1.stand up for themselves(/against their Aspect in some cases) 2.accept the bad things about their Aspect and 3. accept their aspect in their lives! It’s a weaker connection then the Knights, but to me it makes more sense then Healing and Creating given what we’ve seen in cannon 0u0

Why these pairs?

I think these two class pairs are the best candidates to be opposite of each other! Stealing being the opposite of Protecting! We can see the thieves steal their Aspect from people, whereas Maids are protecting it from being destroyed or taken away! Thus, we can see Knights fighting to defend their Aspect, and Rogues trying to take it for redistribution 0u0

With this theory, Karkat inverts with Rufioh! This may be a bit of a stretch because its based on very little cannon info, but Karkat enforces the connections of his team, whereas Rufioh helps the "Lost Weeaboos" by encouraging their individuality! (We dont actually know that much about Rufiohs experiences with the Lost Weeaboos because Meenah kept shutting Aranea up.)

Also, it’s pretty cool that the Maid of Life ended up fighting the Thief of Life!! Jane tried to protect her friends lives, wile )(IC was trying to steal theirs... Neat!!

Okay so this has been my first LEGIT classpecting theory post, so of coarse it’s a little weak, so I wanted to strengthen it a little before moving on! I had a lengthy discussion on the rad @godtier-mods Discord server with some very smart/dope peeps ( @creative-classpect and Taksy as well as Vivs and J, if you want me to link your blogs hit me up, I just couldn’t find links to them for some reason??) and I thought this theory needed an addendum 0u0.

First things first, Inversions!! I see a lot of people interpret her decapitating the frog temple a sign that shes inverted to a Destroying Class, but, what she did was use the data in the frog in the Kernalsprite and fused herself with it, effectively stealing it, inverting to Thief! Additionally, we can actually see Vriska invert to a protector of Void! This can be seen by Vriska making sure to keep Tavros useless (Him only being able to do anything when she isn’t around.), and also by keeping everyone in the dark, notably what she was actually doing during [S] Collide. Additionally, this one I think is maybe less solid, but the pre-retcon Vriska (Vriska) wanted to stay irrelevant!

And now the pairs!! There’s no real need to get into the Thief-Rogue pairing, but I think theirs a lot to be said about the relationship between Knights and Maids! The best way to compare Dave and Aradia, Knight and Maid of Time!! Along with the fact that you could see them as serving classes (Dave serving the timeline and Aradia serving the dead), they can both be seen protecting the Alpha timeline in different ways! Dave, being the active Knight, aggressively stopped any and all possibilities for doomed timelines, every doomed timeline being seen as a set back to him (Dead Daves are the Enemy!!), thus effectively preserving the Alpha timeline!! Meanwhile, Aradia and the Aradiabots passively allowed many doomed timelines, using them as a tool to protect her team, often times using them as meat(metal) shields, and defeat the Black King! This could also be seen as the Knight Actively preserving the timeline by eliminating any and all doomed timelines they can, and the Maid passively allowing the doomed timelines to serve the Alpha!

Whew, I think that enough for addendum. Again, I am more then happy to discuss with anyone or answer questions about what I think 0u0. If I really feel the need to add more I’ll just make a new post >u< idk. I think i’m gonna do my next theory on Pages, their pairs, and their inversions. If you thought this one was too against most Classpect theories... you probably wont like that one either lmao. But I think I've formulated some very good reasons for it 0u0

I saw one bill for my radiation and was literally shocked-still by the amount. It was like $1500 for each treatment I think, and I was getting them Monday-Friday then. Chemo was much more, but I never saw a bill for it so I really don't know the price. I did see a bill for one night I spent in the emergency room when I had this awful infection and a terrible fever, and without insurance that one night would have been over $7000! With insurance I think it was like $2400. All of my treatments and doctor's offices are in posh medical facilities in affluent parts of Los Angeles like Beverly Hills and Westwood / Bel Air, so perhaps that's why my medical care was so much.
