Sirius, introducing Regulus to his friends after they reconcile: …and this is my friend Remus!
Regulus, rolling his eyes: Sirius, I’ve seen you two in the hall. I told you I’m gay. You don’t have to lie to me.
Sirius, confused: What?
Remus, nervous: What?
Regulus, turning to James: Are they seriously that oblivious?
James, distracted by Regulus’s eyes: What?

Soulmates AU where you feel every injury your soulmates currently feel.
For James, his soulmate's pain is so intense on some days he can't leave his bed because of the pain everywhere in his body. James promised himself when he found his soulmate he would make sure to protect and love him always. One day, in his second year he couldn't feel pain since the start of the school year and it made him happy for his soulmate because he was safe. When James came back home in December, he screamed in pain due to his soulmate bond. James got desperate to search for his soulmate as the years went by because every year the pain got intense and more frequent than normal.
When Sirius arrived at his home battered with injuries, it didn't even take a minute for James to scream in pain as he collapsed. On the other side of the bond, Regulus is being punished by his mother for letting Sirius leave the house.

february 13, @jegulus-microfic prompt: street. word count: 719
Regulus had never been so deliriously happy. Sure, he was very dizzy, and the world was spinning round and round and round and he felt sick from it, and he couldn’t really see properly—but James was holding him, and everything else seemed to melt away when he was in James’ arms.
“Jamie,” he murmured.
They were walking…somewhere, Regulus didn’t know, and he was stumbling, but James held him up, one arm around his waist and the other holding his hand.
“Sweetheart,” James replied, and Regulus could just sense the smile on his face. The smile he could kiss and kiss and kiss forever, and he wanted to. He would marry that smile.
Maybe he should propose. To the smile, that is. James’ smile.
Oh, James. He loved James, really, truly and fully. His love for James was just bubbling and expanding in his chest, warm and massive, stretching him right open. Like a balloon.
“I’m a balloon,” he stage-whispered to James.
James laughed, nearly knocking them both over. “Oh, darling. You’re a balloon?”
Regulus nodded messily; his head was so heavy. “Balloonish. All this…” hiccup, “love is in my,” hiccup, “chest. Love for you in my chest, making it big.” Hiccup. “Very big. I’m… ballooning.”
James rubbed a hand over his forehead, brushing away loose curls. “You’re precious, Reg. I’m ballooning with love for you—”
“I’m gonna throw up,” Regulus burst out, suddenly feeling very, very ill.
James rushed him to bend over in an alleyway, and he realized they were walking home from the club.
Once he felt safe enough to stand, James pulled him up and let him lean against him again. “Maybe the balloon was my stomach. Not the love,” he decided.
James shook his head, smiling at him. “Yeah, maybe. But the love is there, too.”
Regulus nodded, and tilted his head back, looking up at the sky.
Stars, there were so many stars.
He got excited, and tugged at James’ sweater. “Jamie! Let’s go find Sirius!” He stumbled forward, out from the alleyway to get a broader look at the sky. “Love, slow down, Sirius isn’t here—”
“Not that Sirius, star Sirius.”
Regulus walked right into the street and sat down clumsily, laying back to look at the stars.
James was leaning over him, blocking the view of the sky. “Reggie—” he started, incredulously.
“Move,” Reg kicked at his legs. “Lay down. We watch the stars.”
James just made an indignant sound and sat down beside him. “We’re in the middle of the street, Reg—”
“Yeah, and it’s like 3am. Nobody’s driving. Where’s your adventure?” he huffed dramatically.
James just laughed, and it sounded like resignation to Regulus. “Okay, love. Okay. Show me the stars.”
Regulus remained silent. The sky was still spinning, out of his control, and he couldn’t keep his focus on any of them, even if he squinted real hard.
“Jesus, Reg, you can’t even see them, can you?”
“I so can! Give me a second!”
More than a few seconds passed, and Regulus couldn’t identify a single star in the sky. But maybe James couldn’t either, so Regulus pointed up and said, “That one, see, over there—that’s Arcturus.” His hand was wobbling and it was very likely he wasn’t even pointing in the right direction.
James chuckled and grabbed his hand, bringing it down to kiss his knuckles. “Okay, love, that’s a bunch of bullshit. I still love you. We can pretend to watch the stars.”
“I’m still watching them,” Regulus hissed. “They’re just…moving.”
“I’m watching, too. You’re silly for thinking I don’t know where Regulus or Arcturus is, in the sky. I talk to them all the time, you know.”
Now his chest was surely ballooning from all the love. Regulus’ breath hitched. “You do?”
“Whenever you’re not around. I tell them all my secrets.”
Regulus gasped. “Do I know your secrets?”
James looked over at him, smile stretching across his face. “Every one. They’re all about you anyway.”
He felt oh-so-full of this warmth, this love and fondness inside him. “Good. I should know all of them, all the time. I’m a really good secret keeper.”
“I know, love.”
And that’s where they stayed, lying flat on a cobblestone street in the middle of the night, holding hands and gazing up at the stars, telling them whispered secrets.

At first sight, Regulus formed an immediate opinion of James: he didn't trust him. From a distance, he observed James wrapping his arm around Sirius' neck, both of them laughing as if they were alone in the world. Even from that cautious distance, he could see the light in James' eyes, a boy who seemed untouched by genuine pain.
No one could appear that flawless.
However, as Regulus got to know James, he realized that James was, in fact, perfect, but not for the reasons he had initially believed. James had his own quirks. He was easily distracted, occasionally placed too much pressure on himself, would break down when things didn't go as expected, refused to give up to the point of self-destruction, and had experienced pain, loss, and sorrow.
The remarkable thing was that James didn't let these things overshadow him; instead, he shone alongside them. And that, that was what made him perfect.

headlights - @jegulus-microfic - word count: 263
"Sirius, it's simple, they just-"
"No, Moony! You're pushing your...cute romanticism onto everyone! Prongs and my baby brother are not together!" Sirius argued, rolling his eyes. Really, it was adorable how Remus could find romance in any scenario, but the thought was ridiculous.
Remus scoffed. "He's not exactly subtle about it, Sirius! He literally waxes poetic about Regulus's fingers every time he gets a chance!"
"Friends! They're friends!" Sirius retorted, wrinkling his nose.
"Fine," the other boy shrugged. "If you really think nothing's going in, go check on them in the dungeons."
"Aright, I will!" Sirius said, sticking his tongue out. James and Regulus were currently working on a Potions project in the dungeons.
But as he and Remus walked to the room ten minutes later, Sirius started to worry. What if they were dating? Oh, Merlin, they would be disgusting. People thought he and Remus were bad, James was the most obnoxiously over-the-top romantic there was.
But he decided to be brave, and just ask.
So he pushed open the wooden door of the Potions classroom with a squeak, only to be greeted by a loud yell.
"Sirius! What the fuck!"
And there was Regulus, climbing off of James's lap, while James wore an expression akin to a deer in headlights. "Er, hi Padfoot," he murmured, one had still out from where it had been grabbing at Regulus's hair only seconds ago. "Hi, Moony."
Remus just snickered from behind him.
"Don't you start," Sirius snapped towards him, knowing he was going to be treated to an 'I told you so' later.

february 8, @jegulus-microfic prompt: headphones. word count: 634.
Regulus was sitting in the library, drawing on his iPad and listening to lofi when a very frantic James burst in, eyes wide and hands shaking. Regulus perked up, drawing forgotten and headphones tossed aside.
“Jamie,” Regulus waved him over, stamping down his panic at the sight of his frenzied boyfriend.
Mercifully, the library was mostly empty and there was nobody directly around to witness this little freak out.
James rushed over, and Regulus saw tears in his eyes.
“Baby, James, what—”
“Reg, Regu—fuck—I can’t–” James was stuttering, and shaking, and his voice trembled. He brought his hands up to press the heel of his palms to his eyes.
“James, breathe,” Regulus insisted, pulling his hands away from his eyes to look at him. “Look at me, breathe with me. Big breath in, out. In, out, just like that. It’s okay.” He squeezed his hands.
They breathed together, and James was still shaky, but he could speak now.
“Reg, I can’t—think, and there’s too much, and I can feel it all, and the fuck-fucking sounds are so loud and—”
“Okay, that’s okay,” Regulus tried to be as soothing as James needed. “Let’s go back to my dorm, okay? It’ll be quiet, and it’ll be a little better.”
James nodded, and he waited for Regulus to pack his bag.
And then Regulus had an idea.
“Jamie, can I give you my headphones? They’re noise canceling, and we don’t need to put music on, it’ll just make things quieter. Is that okay?”
He nodded again, and Regulus reached forward to brush his hair out of his eyes and set the headphones over his ears. James let out a relieved sigh immediately, shoulders slumping and knocking his forehead against Regulus’. A wave of relief crashed over Regulus, so thankful he could help him even a little bit, and he kissed James’ nose. He grabbed his hand and led him back to the dorms. James held tightly onto Regulus’ arm, like he was afraid to let go of the buoy holding him afloat. Regulus was warmed by the thought—that he was keeping James up, that James needed him.
Back at the dorm, James was fidgeting and still looked a bit uncomfortable. “I’m feeling too many things,” he said, and Regulus wasn’t certain if that was emotional or physical, truthfully. But James shifted the neckline of his sweater and winced, so Regulus thought it was a physical thing.
“How about you take off some clothes and you can lie in bed? Less things touching you.”
James nodded, so that’s what they did. James lay in Regulus’ bed, his head in Regulus’ lap, headphones still blocking out the world, with as little clothing as possible bothering him. He finally looked at peace, lying there. Regulus wiped away stray tears and combed gentle fingers through his hair, breathing easy now that James was.
A while later—forever or hours or minutes later—James opened his eyes and smiled up at Regulus. Regulus mirrored it, fingers still moving through his hair.
“Reg,” James said, voice crackly.
“My Jamie,” Regulus whispered. “Feeling okay?”
He nodded, eyes clipping closed again, breaths deep and steady.
“Got overwhelmed. Came to find you.”
And Regulus was warm, overfilling with it, because James came to him when he needed help. He would always be there for him, every time he needed him.
“Thank you, Reg,” James said, grasping his hand and pressing a kiss to his palm.
“‘Course, baby. It’s okay to get overwhelmed. We need a bit of time away sometimes.”
James nodded, burrowing closer to Regulus.
And the next time James got overwhelmed, he took a step back and closed his eyes to breathe, knowing he had Regulus to support him, that he could slip away from his responsibilities for a little bit, guilt free. He breathed easy.
