"Make a choice, James," Regulus demanded, his eyes narrowed and cold.

Sirius stood a foot away from him, arms crossed, staring at James as well.

"I...are you serious?" James stuttered, looking between them. His heart was beating furiously, his palms sweaty, his head spinning. How could he choose?

"Yes," Sirius answered, no trace of humor in his voice. "Him or me. You can't choose both."

It was like his worst nightmare. The two people he cared about most in the world, both looking at him with expectant, demanding glares, the tension in the room so thick he could cut it with a spoon.

"I...fuck, guys this isn't..." James mumbled, wringing his hands.

"It should be an easy choice, James!" Regulus exclaimed, throwing his hands up and looking affronted. "I share a bed with you! How could you-?"

"Oh, no!" Sirius interrupted angrily. "I'm his best mate! If anyone, it should be me!"

But James couldn't do it. "Remus!" he called desperately to the man in the other room.

"Hmm?" Remus's voice asked through the open door.

"Do you want to go to the Weird Sisters concert with me? I won tickets and-"

But James couldn't finish explaining over Regulus and Sirius's furious yells.
