Things I don’t get about the marauders fandom as someone who’s been obsessed with them for literal years

1. How we let so many characters be only children?? like I get that people don’t necessarily want to make OCs but HOW did it get to this? James, Marlene, Peter, Remus, Mary, Barty, Dorcas, Alice, Frank and so many others! Idk maybe it’s just where I’m from but look me in the eyes and tell me you know that many people who don’t have siblings ALSO the ratio is so off and barely any of them have only child energy. It’s just not right.

2. How sooo many of you aren’t multi shippers. Like what do you MEAN you can only see James with Regulus and Regulus with James?? What about bartylus? what about sunrose? what about draksun/sunkiller? what about moonwater? what about jily? what about prongstail? WHAT do you read?? Aren’t you bored??? WHAT DO YOU MEAN you only have ONE ship for each character???? As a multi shipper, I can be convinced of any ship with anything ranging from a real good fic or a pretty edit to an enthusiastic rant from a random person on TikTok and it just makes things interesting. Maybe my adhd brain just needs more ships to focus on or maybe some of you just lack flexibility ( or imagination), but we need to fix this cause there aren’t enough fics with the ships I like 😭😭

3. THE SHIP NAMES. I can’t be the only one who thinks some of these suck right? Like why are we saying jegulus when starchaser and sunseeker are RIGHT THERE?? Same with jily and flowerpot, and bartylus and starkiller. ALSO some names make me wonder if some of you just haven’t grasped the concept of ship names or if I just got it all wrong cause marylily and jegulily are just annoying, why are we keeping the L in Lily? The point is to merge the names together not stick them one beside the other, I just say marily and jeguily because it rolls off the tongue so much more easily

4. The Peter erasure. I just don’t get it, it’s so easy to include him in things, you don’t have to make him a main character, but just mention him every once in awhile. Sometimes I’m reading an important scene in a fic and everyone is mentioned EXCEPT for Peter! It’s so easy, just make him roll his eyes at his friends being idiots or something. And it’s not like you’ll get his personality wrong, ALL THESE CHARACTERS PERSONALITIES WERE MADE UP BY FANS but I understand that some people lack imagination so here’s some things about Peter I like to imagine: he’s a HUGE gossip, like my man sees and hears everything and he takes notes!! He likes to randomly turn into a rat and take a nap in one of the other marauders’ pocket, he does it so much that they had to tell the girls that they had a pet rat cause they were asking too many questions. He’s really perceptive and his friends are all oblivious so it leads to funny scenarios like:

Peter: I thought you guys had been together since third year?

Sirius: I’ve literally introduced you to people I was dating?!

Peter, shrugging: look mate I don’t question you lot anymore, you do whatever you want, I don’t care what you’re into, I just don’t wanna know about it

He also pulls people, like he’s really nice and will gossip to anyone who’s in his vicinity so he’s friends with basically everyone and he’s funny and pretty and he’s got charisma so he just charms everyone and when I say everyone, I mean everyone, even the slytherins have a soft spot for him (that’s how he gets accepted among the death eaters during the war actually). In pranks he’s the lookout so he often has to distract the teachers so he asks them random things and spits out half-made up facts about anything so he’s besties with most of the teachers which means he doesn’t get many detentions.

5. The Black brothers, more specifically the way the speak to each other in most fics, like they call each other “brother” so often and as someone who has a brother I’ve never called him that. Is it an anglophone thing? Like do people who speak English at home all do that or are fic writers only children?? (That would explain my first point actually) Or is it more a rich people thin?? Cause I know it’s not a francophone thing that’s for sure (also special mention to people who don’t know anything about French writing Sirius and Regulus as French speakers, I can tell you don’t know what you’re writing about but I eat it up everytime anyway)

6. This is actually just about ao3 but I WANNA BE ABLE TO LEAVE MORE KUDOS!!! I just loooooove fics but I can’t leave kudos at every single chapter and I’m bad at writing comments so I can’t show the author how much I love their work, I hate itttt 😭

7. Why there aren’t more fics about the Black family, and not just Sirius and Regulus, but Andromeda, Bellatrix and Narcissa as well like that would be so interesting and maybe like a deep dive into the Black family ideals and all that (if you have fic recs I’m all ears!!)

8. How jegulily is a pretty popular ship (which I LOVE) yet SO FEW people ship Regulus and Lily outside of it! They are a power couple and I love them and they don’t need James to work!!!

9. Why there isn’t more background Minnie x Poppy cause they are my mothers and I wanna see them moooooreeee

I've already spoken about this before but for anyone who wasn't here please know that this is a lie! Neither time did Dumbledore raise an army of children. You had to be an adult to join The Order and although the Marauders were young they were not children. As for everyone else, their ages are not confirmed. We are the ones who made Marlene and Dorcas the same age as them. For all we know The Marauder's could've been the youngest in the Order by far. As for the DA, Dumbledore literally had no part in that. It was Hermione, Harry and Ron who made the DA. All Dumbledore did was take the blame for it because they named themselves after him

Firstly it amazes me how these three are the only Death Eaters yall have any sympathy for. I understand Regulus to a point considering we only really hear good things about him from Kreacher but with Evan and Barty genuinely what makes them so special?? Evan is in the exact same pool as Wilkes and y'all don't give a shit about them. Also Barty helped resurrect Voldemort and tortured Frank and Alice. Either way regardless on if you like them or not trust me when i say that if they would've gone to Dumbledore for help he would've helped them. When have we ever seen Dumbledore turn somebody down because they were a Slytherin. This man literally tried to help Draco as he was about to kill him and help the Death Eaters take over Hogwarts. Dumbledore doesn't know everything and he's never passed on the chance for a new spy.

"This fandom is misogynistic for making Lily/Tonks bad mothers/surrogates"

Fanfiction does not equal headcannons. Just because Lily or Tonks are bad mothers in a fanfiction does not mean that the author dislikes them or thinks that they're a bad person in cannon. Also reading about your favourite ship raise a child is a very common trope in fanfiction and as much as Harry and Teddy are Lily and Tonks children they are also James and Remus'. James and Remus are just as responsible for their children and I see nobody batting an eye when the roles are reversed. On top of all of this, Lily and Tonks were young mothers and it's very likely that they would make mistakes or in other universes not be as good as they were in cannon. That does not make them bad people nor does it make them unworthy of being liked. If you don't like it, don't read it cause i know that nobody is saying that Regulus and James raised Harry in cannon.

No they're not. They're mentioned like once or twice. If anything they're incredibly overrated. Nothing wrong with that. Just facts

Don't make me laugh. Jily is one of the only cannon ships we have they are literally the blueprint to the entire series. Jily is not dying out, you're just seeing more Jegulus posts because you keep interacting with them and fucking up your own algorithm in order to argue with people in comment sections

I remember one time in the Riverdale fandom when a Bughead shipper did an interview with a magazine pretending to be Lili Reinheart and told this magazine that Bughead will be cannon just to piss the Barchie shippers off. Y'all would not survive "real" fandoms. Just because somebody doesn't like your ship does not make it hate and even if someone does say something like "Jily is trash and I hate it" so fucking what?? it's one person and trust me there is another room on the internet for the both of you. I don't even think I've seen anyone truly post hate about a ship since 2020 when i was in the instagram fandom and the Wolfstar and Blackinnon shippers had each other by the throat

Jegulus has been around for as long as i have (2018) and at least to me it's very obvious why people like it. It's the best friends brother, opposite sides of the war, secret relationship, forbidden romance tropes that people love. it's not that hard to understand. And as I said before we know just enough about Regulus to get some sense of what he was like but not all of the bad parts.

Dorlene- 100/10 as well, it's my second favorite. I love it as both the slytherin dorcas rivals to lovers, and the gryffindor dorcas friends to lovers

Jily- 9/10. It's really cute and i love it but I love jegulus and marylily equally

Jegulus- 9/10, same reason as above

Marylily- 9/10, still same as above

Prongsfoot- 4/10, I love it platonically but I'm really just not a fan of it romantically. I see them too much as brothers

Alice & Frank- 7/10. I like it, but not as much as others

Marylene- 6/10. It's cute, but I definitely prefer dorlene. but i think they probably hooked up at some point

Marlily- 5/10. platonically i love it, but otherwise no

Bartylus- 7/10. They probably dated at some point. I like it, but not as endgame

NobleFlower- 5/10 havent actually seen much on it, so no opinion

Mary & Remus- 6/10 I use to really ship this for a while, but not really anymore. I can see them maybe dating for a bit after james & lily die and sirius is sent away, but then they decide to stay friends

Pandalily- 8/10. I love it, it's really cute

Rosekiller- 9/10. I love it. Not one of my main ships, but i see it as endgame

Ravenrock- 8/10, very cute

James & Peter- 5/10. I think peter wouldve been in love with james, but it wouldnt be reciprocated and he'd never confess

Blackinnon- 3/10. Sirius would be her gay awakening. By that i mean they'd have dated briefly, because marlene would probably have been in deep denial, and they'd kiss and she'd be like. Oop. Nope. i am definitely into girls. This would be prior to sirius coming out.

also, these are just my opinions! no hate to any ship. ship whatever you want, as long as it's not problematic.

As a multi-shipper, I have a theory about people who ship Jily or Jegulus exclusively and am curious how accurate it is. The theory goes that exclusive shippers fall into a few camps (or a combination of them). These theories are entirely based on my own observations and not on any statistical data.

Jily-exclusive:

One, they need for Harry to exist and/or prefer straight James and/or Lily. This tends to be predominately straight people or those that prefer canon to fanon from what I’ve seen. Lily can be a very relatable character and I think some of this is a self-insert, but not necessarily everyone views it that way.

Two, they like the tidy world of Wolfstar, Dorlene, and Jily. One mlm, one wlw, one straight ship. This tends to be predominantly queer people and allies. I think it stems from the desire to see queer ships normalised in straight society. These readers/writers prefer a more realistic portrayal of these characters based somewhat in canon.

Jegulus-exclusive:

One, the opposite of the group above. They want every ship to be queer and to live a world where queer love is celebrated and accepted openly. Quite often this group is queer people who are tired of seeing homophobia as a theme in every mlm or wlw fic and who abandon canon entirely. Often, this group enjoys trans Regulus and/or James too.

Two, Drarry shippers who have joined the Marauders fandom. This group is quite varied, but already comfortable with the enemy to lovers trope, Slytherins/Gryffindors, and Potter/Black family dynamic. Jegulus is a variant of Drarry in their minds. This group is a big fan of AUs.

Three, this group want to explore darker themes and find Regulus Black to be the perfect morally-grey character to follow because he does have a redemption arc. These Jegulus shippers enjoy seeing James either drawn to the dark side or saving Regulus from it.

I would love to hear others thoughts on this. None of these groups are bad or “wrong,” it’s just what I’ve observed in the fandom.

Okay folks! My first post. I downloaded this app specifically to find a Wolfstar Roleplay. I’m literally craving a good decent Wolfstar roleplay, like i need one so bad. My most recent rp partner absolutely abandoned me (i’ve been on delivered for 24hrs) and i literally need a new one.

I obviously ship wolfstar and i usually write as Sirius but i could possibly try for Remus. I ship Jegulus, but also Jily, and of course Evan and Barty (i forget their ship name?).

My usual Roleplays with Wolfstar are just starting from around maybe their fourth year when they start to realize their feelings for one another. I usually do the basic friends to lovers trope and stuff, just going through their years as they like each other, find out, start dating, etc. I base a lot of my stuff off of ATYD sooo, just fyi. I also do mostly cannon, maybe adding a few things here and there, and the ships ofc.

I love angst so much, my favorite thing ever. So, if you have any triggers make sure to tell me beforehand, i’ll probably ask first anyways. I also can do NSFW but it’s obviously not required at all, i like skipping. I use paragraphs mostly, no short answers, you need to be a decently detailed writer. I use “..” and i talk in third person.

They spend the first night in their shared bedroom bitching each other out and sleeping as far away from each other as they can get, rolled over to each side and huffing in exasperation.

Honestly this works great for any HP ship pairing. Jily having to work together to plan Wolfstar's bachelor trip. Wolfstar exes-to-lovers planning Jily or Jegulus' trip. Drarry planning Ginsy's. You get the idea.

the reason i don’t really like it is because i can’t see lily and regulus being anything more than friendly acquaintances bc of their upbringings and backgrounds; i feel that lily would struggle (and rightly so tbh) to get over regulus’ internalised blood purist beliefs, and they would simply be too different. i also think that the ship is completely centred around james: people don’t want to decide between jily and jegulus, so they merged them. this is NOT nessicarily a bad thing, but, reiterating what i said, i don’t think regulily is a ship that i personally would ship!!

but, everyone deserves to ship what they want (excluding proships/creepy stuff) and my mind can always be changed; if you have any good jegulily fics that you think contradict my opinions / show good or realistic regulily, i’d love to see it!!!!!!!

hello:) does anybody have any marauders fic recs where the characters are morally grey / not perfect all the time (i mean more like james or lily/the girls bc i feel like they, especially james, are often painted as flawless when in fact everyone has flaws, but will obviously take any recs of any characters). i’ve come to the conclusion as much as i love fluff and happiness, i am a girl who lives for the angst (maybe bc then the fluff feels so much nicer)

preferably longer (70k plus) but not too picky:)

and also non-canon compliant we go through enough pain sometimes i need an escape from their deaths 🥲

hey everyone!! i’m looking for 18+ partners to write with on discord. i am hoping to do a harry potter rp, preferably set in the marauders era!! i would love if you would be open to writing multiple characters and multiple ships for this but if you’re not comfortable with doing too many ships, please come willing to at least double.

for this, i am mostly looking to write canon characters myself. however, i’m happy to write cc x cc or cc x oc. i would be honoured and thrilled to write some of the marauders characters against your oc’s if you have them! but please note that i would also like to include some ships as well so please be comfortable potentially doing cc x cc for my side of things or as potential ships in the mumu.

i have a bunch of characters that i’ve been wanting to write for and against including but not limited to: regulus black, sirius black, remus lupin, james potter, evan rosier, barty crouch jr., pandora lovegood, frank longbottom, lucius malfoy, narcissa black, ted tonks, andromeda black, emmeline vance, marlene mckinnon, mary macdonald, and dorcas meadows.

in terms of ships, i have a bunch that i’ve been wanting to write (romantic, platonic, familial, etc.) hence why i would love for this to be a mumu, but again it’s not mandatory. some of the ships i can think of off the top of my head include: rosekiller, jily, jegulus, jegulily, dorlene, marylily, pandalily, frank/alice, pandora/xenophilius, nobleflower and of course wolfstar. there are a few rare pairs that i would be happy to include as well depending on what you’re comfortable with!!

not all of the pairings need to take place in the same universe. i’m happy to do au’s (both magical verse au’s and non magical verse au’s). i’m also happy to dabble in other eras as well if you’re interested but marauders is currently where my brainrot is at the moment. i would like the plots to be more mature, possibly with darker themes but that’s not a requirement. however, all the characters will be 18+ regardless of whether or not smut is included. we can include smut if you’re comfortable with writing it but if you’re not i’m happy to fade to black.

in terms of writing i am quality > quantity. i can write both shorter para stuff and longer multi-para stuff, i’m not a stickler for length or activity level. but i do write in third person and descriptively. i love to plot and ramble about our ships and the characters ooc. i love making and sending inspo, edits, pinterest boards, etc. back and forth while we’re writing and i would love a writing partner who wants to get as invested as i am!

i would like to say that most of these characters, to me, are headcannon based and because of that i’m not looking for or expecting any specific characterizations from you. there are little to no canon information about some of these characters so, in my opinion, take what you feel is right and run with it. i won’t ever complain and i prefer fanon stuff anyway!

hi everyone, i'm tas, and i post a lot of hp stuff

hey everyone :) you can call me tloui or tas. my pronouns are he/it. i'm aroace. idk if there's much else to say there lol

i don't post about much other than harry potter on here, but i do have other interests (of course). my favorite musical artists are ajr, troye sivan, and tate mcrae. my favorite movies are vengeance (2022) and moneyball. my favorite books are red, white & royal blue, the catcher in the rye, project nought, and this was our pact. i also really like all the riordianverse books (and i do actually reblog things about pjo on a regular basis). lastly, my favorite colors are blue, green, yellow, pink, and red, which you can probably tell from the banner image and dividers i made for this post.

as for what i post myself, it's harry potter. just harry potter. (yk... minus that one tbosas post). i despise both jkr and pretty much all canon events (it was a canon event) so if you ship almost any canon ship, you're probably out of luck here. (i do ship some canon ships [cough cough drastoria and jily cough cough] but i almost never post about them anyway lol)

my favorite character is percy weasley and i post about him a lot. i'm a slytherin percy weasley truther all the way and love perciver (it's one of my otps) so if you ever wanna chat about percy (or penelope, oliver, and marcus) i'm here :)

even though my favorite character is percy, most of my fics & fic ideas are set in the marauders era. i'll also write some next gen stuff occasionally, and while i have a ton of ocs for next gen, the ones i reference most are lucy, skye, and katie (perciver oc kids) and henry and luella (deamus oc kids).

out of all ships, i write jegulus the most. even if it isn't the main ship, it's featured in a lot of my fics & wips

i slam the door and i'm on my way - jegulus, wip, teen and up. currently 3 chapters and 6.8k. ↳ regulus joins sirius at james's house during his sixth year. together, james, regulus, sirius, and the rest of their friends (both the gryffindor crew and the slytherin skittles) work together to bring voldemort down.

if you stayed - jegulus, complete, general. oneshot, 5k. ★ ↳ regulus leaves his family for good and stays with james and harry while he gets back on his feet in exchange for him looking after harry while james works. regulus is sure james is going to make him leave when the summer ends and harry goes back to school, but this might not be the case after all.

one big family - multi, complete, general. oneshot, 1.3k. ★ ↳ harry celebrates his eleventh birthday with his parents, his sister luna, and their friend neville. a no voldemort au with background jegulus, pandalily, and more :)

not quite bright - penelope clearwater & percy weasley, complete, teen and up. oneshot, 1.8k. ↳ a oneshot with penelope & percy where they're pushed to the sidelines, nobody quite understands them, and the world kinda sucks, but maybe that's ok. basically just queerplatonic (& very neurodivergent coded) penelope/percy.

home at last - jegulus, complete, general. oneshot, 352 words ★ ↳ the ao3 version of this tumblr post i made :) just a fluffy little jegulus microfic about how they got together

as a last note, while i do post almost exclusively harry potter stuff on here, i do make my own stories, and a lot of them. i've only made one post about my original work on here, but i might make more if i feel like it, so i thought i'd add a small section talking about basic bits of my original wips

tsbom - tsbom is the world where i put any character that exists in our world, aka a world without magic or fantasy elements. the characters live across the us, but they're all connected somehow. (this is the universe that my one oc post has come from).

tlotlk + the realms - the realms is the wip as a whole, and tlotlk is the first book, which i'm currently in the process of writing. this series follows a boy as he becomes a knight & falls in love with the prince of the kingdom he's protecting :)

twoa, tcon, ion, & bote - these wips all take place in the same universe, which is also collectively called twoa. this is a universe where gods exist and different human/humanoid people are spread throughout the universe. earth shows up a few times, but isn't the main focus of the series. almost all characters are gods, demigods, or mages, but there are also a few other magical beings & mortals mixed in.

tcor - a story about a girl falling into a world she doesn't belong in with few memories and the knowledge that something is after her. (no it's not horror lol). with the help of a few friends, she's determined to get to the bottom of the mystery and fend off whatever's hunting her down.

beachside - ten kids end up in a replica of their hometown, except they're alone and this version of it is considerably more hostile. just a lot of found family honestly.

these aren't all my wips, but they're the majority of them, as well as the ones i work on the most. while it may not be mentioned in the summaries i gave here, all of them are queer & include romance, usually multiple romances. (i may be aroace, but i write a lot of romance.)

hmm. ohm. i REALLY don't want to be that person.. believe me i don't... but i can't help it you see... is there going to be... a little bit jegulus... in the as the worm dies?

lmao look the only thing i will say about this at this juncture is just. do not count on any relationship in this fic aside from wolfstar. like even to the extent that i have plans + ideas for other background relationship stuff going on really none of it will be like. "side relationships" in the traditional sense and so i feel like even if i said "yeah there'll be some [insert ship]" i'd end up w people mad at me for saying there would be a relationship which then doesn't take the form and/or get the attention they were expecting. like aside from wolfstar there are really no other clear-cut "ships" in this fic. if u absolutely want jily/jegulus/regulily/jegulily/any other configuration of those characters together then this is maybe not the fic for you and if u absolutely hate jily/jegulus/regulily/jegulily/any other configuration of those characters together and absolutely don't want to see it then this also maybe isn't the fic for u, and that's all i can really say atp considering that i am still actively writing the fic lol
