Evan leaned against the wall as he glared at Regulus and Barty who were currently making out in the middle of the party. He wasn't quite sure which one of them he was glaring at the moment. He was mad at both of them.

But James Potter walking up to him did not help his anger either.

"What the fuck do you want Potter?" Evan asked without looking over at the boy. Or rather up at the boy. Evan definitely would have had to look up. Potter was tall, and it did not help that Evan was almost as short as regulus.

"Are you going to have a proper conversation with me or are you going to continue starring daggers at the back of regulus' head," Potter asked.

Evan turned his head so fast he almost got a whiplash, his glare now fixed on Potter. "What do you want?" Evan asked again.

"To help you," Potter said honestly.

Evan snorted. "How could you help me."

James shrugged. "You like Barty and I like Regulus."

"And they're dating."

James nodded. "Fake dating."

Evan's cool uncaring anger demeanor changed instantly. "They're what?!" He choked out.

"Fake dating. To make us jealous."

"And how do you know this?" Evan asked, still trying to wrap his mind around it.

"Pete told me."

"Fuck."

You never doubted what Peter Pettigrew said. Ever. Especially about something like this.

James nodded.

"But back to my point, how are you going to help me?" Evan questioned.

"We fake date as well." James proposed.

Evan hesitated. And then he looked over to where Regulus and Barty were dancing and kissing and laughing. Evan looked back at James who was looking at him expectantly.

"I'll do it," Evan replied.

James' face broke into a grin.

"Oh thank merlin!" He exclaimed.

Evan rolled his eyes. "Don't get too excited there, Potter."

"Call me James. We're dating aren't we?" The taller boy said.

Evan couldn't help but laugh.

This was going to be fun.

Things I don’t get about the marauders fandom as someone who’s been obsessed with them for literal years

1. How we let so many characters be only children?? like I get that people don’t necessarily want to make OCs but HOW did it get to this? James, Marlene, Peter, Remus, Mary, Barty, Dorcas, Alice, Frank and so many others! Idk maybe it’s just where I’m from but look me in the eyes and tell me you know that many people who don’t have siblings ALSO the ratio is so off and barely any of them have only child energy. It’s just not right.

2. How sooo many of you aren’t multi shippers. Like what do you MEAN you can only see James with Regulus and Regulus with James?? What about bartylus? what about sunrose? what about draksun/sunkiller? what about moonwater? what about jily? what about prongstail? WHAT do you read?? Aren’t you bored??? WHAT DO YOU MEAN you only have ONE ship for each character???? As a multi shipper, I can be convinced of any ship with anything ranging from a real good fic or a pretty edit to an enthusiastic rant from a random person on TikTok and it just makes things interesting. Maybe my adhd brain just needs more ships to focus on or maybe some of you just lack flexibility ( or imagination), but we need to fix this cause there aren’t enough fics with the ships I like 😭😭

3. THE SHIP NAMES. I can’t be the only one who thinks some of these suck right? Like why are we saying jegulus when starchaser and sunseeker are RIGHT THERE?? Same with jily and flowerpot, and bartylus and starkiller. ALSO some names make me wonder if some of you just haven’t grasped the concept of ship names or if I just got it all wrong cause marylily and jegulily are just annoying, why are we keeping the L in Lily? The point is to merge the names together not stick them one beside the other, I just say marily and jeguily because it rolls off the tongue so much more easily

4. The Peter erasure. I just don’t get it, it’s so easy to include him in things, you don’t have to make him a main character, but just mention him every once in awhile. Sometimes I’m reading an important scene in a fic and everyone is mentioned EXCEPT for Peter! It’s so easy, just make him roll his eyes at his friends being idiots or something. And it’s not like you’ll get his personality wrong, ALL THESE CHARACTERS PERSONALITIES WERE MADE UP BY FANS but I understand that some people lack imagination so here’s some things about Peter I like to imagine: he’s a HUGE gossip, like my man sees and hears everything and he takes notes!! He likes to randomly turn into a rat and take a nap in one of the other marauders’ pocket, he does it so much that they had to tell the girls that they had a pet rat cause they were asking too many questions. He’s really perceptive and his friends are all oblivious so it leads to funny scenarios like:

Remus & Sirius after YEARS of pining: we’re dating

Peter: I thought you guys had been together since third year?

Sirius: I’ve literally introduced you to people I was dating?!

Peter, shrugging: look mate I don’t question you lot anymore, you do whatever you want, I don’t care what you’re into, I just don’t wanna know about it

He also pulls people, like he’s really nice and will gossip to anyone who’s in his vicinity so he’s friends with basically everyone and he’s funny and pretty and he’s got charisma so he just charms everyone and when I say everyone, I mean everyone, even the slytherins have a soft spot for him (that’s how he gets accepted among the death eaters during the war actually). In pranks he’s the lookout so he often has to distract the teachers so he asks them random things and spits out half-made up facts about anything so he’s besties with most of the teachers which means he doesn’t get many detentions.

5. The Black brothers, more specifically the way the speak to each other in most fics, like they call each other “brother” so often and as someone who has a brother I’ve never called him that. Is it an anglophone thing? Like do people who speak English at home all do that or are fic writers only children?? (That would explain my first point actually) Or is it more a rich people thin?? Cause I know it’s not a francophone thing that’s for sure (also special mention to people who don’t know anything about French writing Sirius and Regulus as French speakers, I can tell you don’t know what you’re writing about but I eat it up everytime anyway)

6. This is actually just about ao3 but I WANNA BE ABLE TO LEAVE MORE KUDOS!!! I just loooooove fics but I can’t leave kudos at every single chapter and I’m bad at writing comments so I can’t show the author how much I love their work, I hate itttt 😭

7. Why there aren’t more fics about the Black family, and not just Sirius and Regulus, but Andromeda, Bellatrix and Narcissa as well like that would be so interesting and maybe like a deep dive into the Black family ideals and all that (if you have fic recs I’m all ears!!)

8. How jegulily is a pretty popular ship (which I LOVE) yet SO FEW people ship Regulus and Lily outside of it! They are a power couple and I love them and they don’t need James to work!!!

9. Why there isn’t more background Minnie x Poppy cause they are my mothers and I wanna see them moooooreeee

Happy New Year

He trails them until they reach the living room, staring from behind the sofa while Regulus and Evan exchange one glance before they each tackle one of them in a different direction from where they had been fighting. Evan goes for Barty, throwing them so far away they collide against the wall, Regulus doesn’t get Sirius nearly as far but he does get him to stop fighting back faster than Evan, who seems to keep feeding the fire of Barty’s hatred until he gets an opening and closes his hand firmly around his jaw like a muzzle. Barty shakes his head like a furious dog being restrained, but once his eyes finally go from red to green and he registers Evan’s pissed-off face in front of him, his entire body relaxes, like a switch has been turned in his body. “Ev,” his voice is hoarse, he spits a mouthful of blood the moment Evan drops his hand from the front of Barty’s mouth to his neck, still restraining but giving him more leeway. “Are you gonna behave?” Barty’s eyes burn again. “If he-” Evan snaps his other hand in front of his eyes, taking them away from where Sirius is brushing dust off his clothes as if they aren’t filled with blood while arguing with Regulus over what happened. “Don’t fucking look at him while I’m speaking to you.” Barty’s eyes turn heated the second they land on Evan’s face. “Behave,” his tone leaves no room for argument. Barty shudders, his entire body melting in Evan’s grip. James is sure they’re about to start shagging on the carpet until Sirius gasps loudly enough to catch all of their attention.

Evan was a God,

James was sure of it. The way the sun made his exceptionally dark skin glow, the way everything he did was slow and graceful and yet never too slow. He was perfect.

James loved every bit of him, and he’d worship the God as he did his own.

He would do anything, any sacrifice to Evan.

Although there seemed to be one slight problem:

Evan was dating Regulus.

And to James, Regulus was an adorable boy but he would much rather be the man on Evan’s arm.

He saw the way their roommate looked at Regulus. It was how he looked at Evan.

“How close are Regulus and Evan?” He asked one day. An innocent question. Or maybe not so much.

Remus was the first to answer, “conjoined.” He didn’t even look up from his book, and that made James lose a bit of hope. But not too much. He’d find a way. A way without hurting either Evan nor Regulus.

“You like Regulus.”

James would try a different approach.

Barty glanced up, unimpressed. And James had to give him props for not even looking a bit surprised.

“I don’t.” He lied. James could get an advantage here.

“You do,” he dismissed, “and I think you should be with Regulus.”

That seemed to surprise Barty.

“What’s your game?” He asked slowly, a calculated response. It reminded James of Evan.

“I want Evan,” he decided on, “and you want Regulus.”

Barty nodded, “and how do you plan on getting that?”

James paused. He knew he had forgotten something.

“We better not be doing some fake dating cliche.”

“I hate those,” he used James’ silence to talk,”they never end well.”

James scratched out the idea and tried another, “what if we make them..” he stopped himself realizing he was just about to suggest the previously rejected idea, “ask Regulus out.”

“No.” Barty’s response, was quick. Quicker than a heart beat.

“Why not?” James was sure his jaw was on the floor by then.

“Regulus is my friend,” he scoffed, “I’m not breaking them up.”

James watched as Barty walked away.

It was safe to say he had no idea what he would do now.

And what do you to appease a God?

Offerings.

It started with quills or ink that Evan lacked, and then it became books he had seen Evan eyeing. Into cd’s that reminded him of Evan. And then candy, and it escalated to bouquets. Of roses. And sunflowers.

And it ended with Regulus pinning James to a wall. If it was Evan, he would’ve been turned on but it wasn’t. He wished it was.

“What’s your problem?” Regulus had hissed.

“Jealous?” James had teased, trying to disarm Regulus. It wasn’t working so far.

“I’m not jealous of *you*.” He scoffed.

And before James could realize what he saying he spoke, “Barty likes you.”

Regulus froze, there was the moment James could get control, “loves you in fact. I’ve seen Evan. I don’t think it’s the same.”

Regulus watched him carefully. As if waiting for the attack.

“Break your with your boyfriend.” He suggested, “get with Barty.”

Regulus laughed. James found it cruel, “what’s so funny?”

Regulus looked at him through tears and shook his head, “Barty may love me but I love Evan. And back off, because next time I won’t be so kind.”

James watched him walk away and sighed, the Slytherins always had to walk away huh? Be dramatic?

That would be fine, he got the idea of Barty into Regulus’ head. Now he just needed to get himself into Evan’s.
