Blessed Imbolc!

so i said before during this calendar year i wanted to do a simple guide to the pagan year wheel and its holidays, and this is the first one!

Imbolc is celebrated from sunset on February 1st to sunset on February second, though some people may celebrate for a full day on one or both days. It marks the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox, and celebrates the coming of spring and associated fertility.

Imbolc is a day for the Goddess Brigid, who is associated with things like women's safety, milk, lamb and other domestic animals, prophecies, and creative practices such as poetry or blacksmithing; but the most prominent associations between her and imbolc are fire, fertility, and her holy well.

Some modern practices include things like:

fire rituals, such as manifestation bonfire or candle manifestation rituals

weather divination, usually the view that poor weather on imbolc means good weather this spring and vice versa (similar to groundhogs day, which is on the same day, but has few historical ties to imbolc)

cleansing rituals for the body and home

offerings to brigid on an altar, such as water (representing her holy well), lighting a candle (fire), or a brigid cross (see below)

making a brigid cross and/or brideog doll

the brigid cross has four "legs" representing the four directions (north, east, south, and west), as well as the four elements (earth, air, water, and fire respectively).

if you want to celebrate imbolc but you don't want to do a ritual, don't want to worship the Goddess Brigid, and/or need something you can practice discreetly, some other imbolc rituals include:

spring cleaning

planning a garden

lighting a candle, or a bonfire if you can

reading or writing poetry, or engaging in another creative act

making food with intention (you can place your own intentions, or prepare/eat foods associated with fertility, like apples)

going outside and admiring nature

and of course you can do your own rituals and traditions related to the holiday as you see fit.

*please note that fertility can be associated with human reproduction, but in this instance is most commonly associated with the growing of plants, and there are other pagan holidays that do revolve around fertility more so in terms of reproduction than this one.

this was a very basic overview of the holiday, so if it intrigues you i would definitely recommend doing your own research on it! the sources below are easy way to get a bit more information without having to dig too far or commit a large amount of time to it.

Scar politely directs his next question to her, projecting his voice so it curls around the chair like smoke. "Miss Jellie, can we come sit by the fire?" Jellie's tail flicks, an idle, irritated motion. After a moment, she yawns again, then tucks her head under her paws. "I think that's rather conclusive, don't you?" Scar asks Grian. "I think you're being ridiculous," Grian replies dryly, "and I'm shocked you aren't taking this opportunity to pet your cat." The gasp Scar sucks in is one of sheer, mock horror. "I do believe you're right, Grian! I can't believe that slipped my mind. I can't let my sweet baby Jellie go unpet— let's move, come on, up you go."

Other than that tho i have nothing going on, just a chill day :] my household is very relaxed abt holidays generally; our tradition is that we have a charcuterie board every xmas, so we've got a good spread of cheeses for that this year, including a bellavitano espresso that im VERY fond of. No red dragon tho, which is my favorite 😔😔😔😔 (can u tell i love cheese skdbskdnns) but we preserve<3 /silly

I imagine dad! matty would be veeery affectionate with his partner even in front of the kids bc they’ve decided they want to show the girls what it’s like to be healthily in love. so im picturing his missus in the kitchen making coffee or smth while the kids are sitting at the counter (little still! like 2 and 4) and he comes into the room and hugs her from behind giving her little kisses all over her shoulders until she turns around in his arms and he gives her kisses on her forehead/cheeks/etc. And then one of the little babas is like “no fair, I want a kiss from daddy!” And both parents are laughing but of course he goes over and gives his girl what she wants :)

yes!! this is exactly the vibe!! thinking it's summer holidays, but the girls aren't quite onto lie-in schedule yet, and matty had a show last night so you let him sleep while you got up to get the babas before they could run in and wake you up. they've started waking you both up at weekends by bursting into your room lately, the little one being gently pulled along by her big sister, both of them all wild curls and adorable little smiley faces in care bears pyjamas, and as much as they're extremely energetic for 7am they're also just too cute for you and matty to be exasperated by - basically, matty wouldn't mind being woken up by them crawling on top of him desperate for a cuddle, but you know he needs the sleep. and the sight you see when you go into your littlest one's room is exceptionally cute; she's cuddled into her big sister, her curls all smushed on one side and eyes still heavy with sleep, the two of them trying their best to read a picture book. their little faces light up when you come in, and they run to you for cuddles and to tell you about their dreams - after a few minutes of this, baba 2 does uppy arms and says "toast please?", which is your sign to go downstairs and make breakfast. they get their toast, fruit juice, and a little cup of extremely milky tea each, and while they're at the table eating you work on making some coffee, only turning round when you hear almost dead silence and have to tell your eldest off like "sweetheart, you can't feed your crusts to the dog. just leave them on the plate, if you won't eat them" lol.

naturally, when matty comes in and ruffles their hair in greeting (accompanied by a "morning, my beautiful girls"), baba 1 is like "dad, mum says i can't give mayhem the crusts of my toast" and matty's like "and she's right! but you can put out his breakfast for him, if you like" before he walks over and wraps his arms around your waist. he's like "thank you for letting me sleep, my most beautiful girl", kissing across your shoulders and the nape of your neck; you turn round and you're like "matty omg you can't say that, our girls are literally right there" and matty's like "no they agree with me, look! babas - isn't mummy the most beautiful person on the planet? i think so". your heart melts a little bit when they both immediately say "yeah!", and you press a quick kiss to matty's lips - when you pull back, he leans in again to give you little pecks all over your face, making little exaggerated "mwah" sounds that make you giggle. baba 1, back in her seat after filling mayhem's food bowl, is like "daaaaad can i have a little face kiss like mum?", and baba 2 is like "and me!", bless them; you giggle, while matty laughs and says "alright, babies!", then goes over and gives them each a big "mwah" kiss on each cheek and their foreheads (and then insists they both kiss one of his cheeks while he's crouched between their chairs too). and then you get roped in to give them kisses too, and before long it's just the four of you giggling at your kitchen table, matty stealing the toast crusts for himself, and the room just radiating pure love and happiness <3

hello!! sorry it took me so, so long for me to answer this, but I think you have the holiday blues. heres some tips to make you feel better :)

prioritizing self care. eat heathly, sleep well, practice mindfulness, exercise regularly.

schedule time to spend with others. just as a little joy in life, sharing laughter and creating core memories with others.

journalling frequently. keeping thoughts in your head causes you to spiral, so write it down and let it go~

Take a pause in life. Step away from the hustle and grind, and just focus on the little things

use grounding techniques when needed, my favourite is reminding yourself of what is happening. Where are you? what are you doing? why are you doing it?

Do things because you love yourself sooo muchh, not vice versa.

Get in touch with your spirituals self and get connected!!

You work the night shift at a local dog kennel for boarding and daycare. You love the peace and quiet of the shift, but just when you get comfortable- a few break-ins happen around town, and upper management decides to place your quiet, brooding, shift lead on the schedule with you.

☽✧ Chapter Three: Musically In Tune ✧☾

-Y/N POV-

Your second class wasn't supposed to start for another fifteen minutes, but you really didn't have the energy to get out of bed. You hated that you only had one day off work, sure your job was alright, but using your other day off as the day to schedule all your classes was really not the move, because now you didn't want to attend the lectures. The text that popped up on your phone didn't help focusing much either. Why was he texting you? Did he want you to come in on your day off?

Logan 🐺:

Hows school nerd?

“Weird” You said aloud, laughing to yourself as the small adrenaline rush of having to come in dissipated.

You:

Not exactly better than work, but not worse

Logan 🐺:

I can always call you in for an ‘emergency’ haha

You:

No thanks! Lol

Next thing you knew your phone was flooding with sad cat memes about school. Your face quickly started to ache from laughing so much.

Logan 🐺:

Don’t tell the boss im memeing on company time

You:

You are my boss stupid

Logan 🐺:

Oh, yeah… guess I am ;)

It was so bizarre seeing this side of him. In just a week he had gone from this “quiet shift lead that no one really wants to talk to” to “coworker that you look forward to working with everyday” to now, acquaintances? Friends? You didn't really know. It was hard for you to draw lines between stages of friendship at work. Maybe he was just being nice to make you feel more comfortable around him?

Logan 🐺:

So… what class are you in right now?

You:

Just about to start music theory

Logan 🐺:

Need any help studying? I’m pretty good with music

You:

I might take you up on that actually lol

I never have time for this class so now im nearly failing

You turned the screen off on your phone and tried your best to pay attention during your lecture, but you couldn't shake the nervous energy you had built up thinking about the next shift working with him.

It didn't take long for the next workday to arrive. You had barely slept at all, staying up studying and trying to catch up in your other courses was beginning to take a toll on you. You arrived barely on time for your shift, quickly getting the usual updates from departing day staff before clocking in. You headed into the break room and set your things down before collapsing into the seat and catching your breath. You’d just barely remembered to grab your music theory notes and homework, collecting them in a rush and making you run just enough behind that you’d be late if you picked up food for the shift. At least you would be able to get some help from Logan tonight though and hopefully your next exam would go over better than the last.

The day shift quickly finished up and clocked out. Logan seemed to be running a bit late, so once everyone else had clocked out and left you began the duties of the night. You were on your second rotation of letting dogs out when you heard his car pull up, so you didn't turn to look when you heard the backdoor open and a few more dogs run out. You continued playing with one of the more shy dogs that was boarding for the night and watched to make sure everyone was getting along.

“Hey there.” You felt a warm hand on your back, a sharp contrast with the bite in the cold fall air. You tried to ignore the nagging feeling in the pit of your stomach acting up.

“Oh hey!” a slightly-too-loud laugh falling from your lips.

“I stopped at Starbucks and got us some coffee.” An uneven smile painted his face, making him look almost comical with his cold bitten nose and pale skin, along with those signature dark circles under his eyes.

“Oh wow, thank you! I was running late and wasn't able to stop for anything today.” You smiled and accepted the warm cup and took an eager sip, grateful to have some caffeine for the night.

“Oh huh, perfect timing I guess? You're welcome.” He chuckled and offered a smile just as warm as the cup in your hands. “I can order some food or snacks later too.” He took a sip of his own cup and huffed, his breath forming a small cloud in front of him due to the freezing temperature. As much as you despised the cold and how it made your already poor circulation in your hands feel like pins and needles, you did really love the aesthetics of it: the clouds of breath, the way it made faces redden, the smell that was draped across everything the night before a big thunderstorm or heavy snowfall, the oversized hoodies and layered outfits that everyone seemed buried in, big boots with chunky socks- it was all very comforting in a way, it seemed to round out the edges in a very sharp world.

The night went by much the same as it began. There was a very comforting feeling about the weather and the mood that you were both in, even the dogs seemed very subdued. Time seemed to go by a bit slower, which you happily welcomed after weeks of vigorous study.

Though time seemed to be lulling along peacefully, you got your nightly duties done in record time. You blamed the unusually well behaved dogs. It wasn't long before you were both sitting at the front desk again, joking around and playing some light music. He hesitantly showed you a few of his favorite bands. You assumed his apprehension was from fear of judgment. Lucky for him, you both enjoyed darker, more melancholy music.

You both listened to his Spotify playlist while he helped you on your coursework. You bopped along to several songs you recognized as he read through your work. BONES, Xavier Wulf, and several other artists played softly through the speakers.

“Mm, yeah not this one…” You sheepishly laughed as you clicked skip on Cholesterol, not needing to feel too melancholic tonight. He merely chuckled and nodded with firm agreement. You were surprised by his knowledge about music, he helped you get through the entirety of your homework, as well as explained a bunch of the questions you’d missed on the last exam you brought with you.

“How do you know all this? I feel like you know more than my professor honestly…” You laughed as you finished up the last question and shut your notebook. He’d managed to explain everything all in a way that was actually making sense to you. He’d even related back to songs that played out softly on the speakers and used them as examples to the concepts.

“I sincerely fucking doubt that…” He chuckled tiredly. “I just- know music I guess… I spend a lot of time with and around it, I uh- I’ve even made a couple songs myself…” You smiled as you caught the red tint on his heated cheeks.

“Wait really?” You gave him a surprised look.

“Yeah, I don’t know if they're any good, but I like making them.” He shrugged and passed you the keyboard and mouse to play music.

“Can I hear one?” You pried, making him slump into his chair further and groan softly.

“Ahh I don’t know, y/n…” He huffed and rolled his eyes playfully. “I haven't really shown anyone, but I guess if you promise to not make fun of me…” he turned slightly and narrowed his eyes at you, “...or tell anyone here- maybe I’ll bring my computer next time or something…”

“Hmm, we’ll see…” You squinted back, jokingly challenging him before laughing.

“I’ll write you up I swear to god y/n…” He joked back, laughing along with you.

“OoOkay boss man…”

Remus strikes me as the guy who will get you flowers just because, so expect to be showered with your favorites. However, he always forgets that he should buy you flowers on a holiday.

Though he is afraid of the full moon, watching the skies with you any other time has become an enjoyable pastime, especially to see you light up.

When he has to hide away for the full moon, he makes you a goodie basket to 'remember' him by till he comes back.

If you are ever feeling unwell or hurt, he will carry you up to his dorm and make you comfy in his bed. He will get you all the fixings to cure your ailments. I'm talking hot water bottles, heavy blankets, blackout curtains, water, pain medicine, and, of course, cuddles.

You sat in the library waiting for Remus to arrive for your study date. As you finished your potion essay for him to look over, an exhausted, panting Sirius appeared before you. You looked up at him, amused, "Y/N, I am telling you we need him for Quidditch. Please, please, tell him to skip Hogsmeade this weekend." As Sirius was begging, he got down on his knees.

Around the corner soon came James looking almost as exhausted as the other boy in front of you. You chuckle into your hand, knowing that the Librarian will soon grow tired of the Maurder's antics. "Boys, you know he is his own person, right? What makes you think I have any say." You looked at the boys innocently. With a scoff, Sirius stood, wrapping his arm around James' shoulder. "Y/N, the man is so in love with you that he talks to you in his dreams. Of course, he will listen to you."

Before you could open your mouth again, James and Sirius were on the floor, this time due to a perfectly timed nudge to the back of their knees. Remus looked up at you and smiled softly, "Hi, my sweet. I brought you some treats." Placing down your candy, which he knew you favored, he sat across from you, ready to study.

James popped up from the floor, "Look, Y/N, he's even wearing a matching jumper with you! We have asked to match as a group of friends for ages. You can't tell me this man isn't whipped." You laughed at the remark, watching Remus nudge the back of James' knee again, causing him to collapse.

(You are looking up at the stars with the whole friend group. Your head is placed in Remus' lap. Peter is asleep lounging on the grass. Sirius, James, and Lily are all leaning back, looking at the stars.)

Y/N: Do you think that when the first people watched the stars, they thought they were crazy when they started moving each night.

Sirius: Wait, do the stars move each night?

James: I thought it was the moon that moved.

Lily: Sometimes it amazes me how you two breathe on your own.

Remus: (rubbing his temples, feeling the headache coming on) I'm glad someone else said it.

leading up to the race, i was so fucking scared & also so fucking excited to watch it, because as you might remember, this is when checo was almost leading the championship and bragging about it to the media 🙄🙄 very very funny looking back but i knew it from the moment baku ended: i need it to be next week. i need to see max slay again. 🤭🤭🤭 AND OH. OH SLAY HE DID. max cuntstappen is BACK yall 🤤🤤🤤

so, starting with quali (because i did not watch free practice), i remember this was the first time i watched with my now ex upstairs, in my brothers room 🥰 it was VERY VERY late in the netherlands at this point, like around 11 pm? it was very late for me and my sleep schedule at least 🥹 as i’m writing this it seems EARLY… woah… 😵‍💫😵‍💫 as you know: qualifying was fucking crazy. i was there, on his bed, praying man literally praying for everything to go right😬😬😬… THIS WAS ACTUALLY THE QUALIFYING TO MAKE ME VOW TO NEVER EVER MAKE FUN OF A MERC EXITING BEFORE Q3 EVER AGAIN. the fucking instant karma. SMACK IN DA FACE… 😵😵😵😵😵😵😵😵😵😵💔💔💔💔💔💔. needless to say i was very very upset and it was #joever between me and charles for a whole 7 hours (while i slept) 😭😭😭😭‼️‼️‼️‼️

Aw happy Hanukkah! I'm actually not Jewish myself but I know I have lots of mutuals/followers who are and I like to spread the holiday meme wealth lol. (Especially when I have approximately one billion "almost Christmas" related memes scheduled this year because it's baby's first December as an AA fan lmao.) So I tend to reblog the posts I think are funny and/or nice, like the menorah puzzle art last night.

The spelling is not something I'm remotely qualified to weigh in on beyond that there are variations because the English is transliterating Hebrew. Hanukkah is the one I most consistently remember without having to google spellcheck so it is what I tend to use lol
