#i'm still looking forward to Robin in the live action

the One Piece live action really missed out on the chance to have an easter egg of Robin's wanted poster
and before y'all say "but Sammy, they hadn't casted her adult actress, never mind her child actress yet", true, but they had wanted posters for Jango, who didn't even appear in Syrup Village, Foxy, who appears a lot later, and Cavendish who doesn't appear until after the timeskip
i just think it would've been cool

Your post about that dialogue from Gotham Knights (the game) made me think back on how much I miss Bruce and Dick's relationship tbh. Like obv it was never the healthiest thing ever, and Bruce was always emotionally constipated, but it always felt a little more... equal? Recently it's just felt so toxic, like Bruce will be an asshole, and Dick will be hurt by it but will still come back to him and will remove the burden of Bruce apologizing for anything from him. Like the scene between them in Nightwing 100, where Bruce is rightfully apologizing for his crap and Dick says he doesn't have to. I do like that scene (even if it was over the top), but that's not right. Like, no sir, he has a lot to apologize for lmao. But that's literally been their dynamic for so long. Whenever Bruce should be called out, Dick just forgives him and Bruce goes back to doing the same old shit again, and Dick forgives him again, and rinse and repeat.
Honestly, it feels like whoever wrote those scenes took a look at that one meme of Batman slapping Robin and said "hey, they like that, let's do that!" Like, you can't go a long time without Bruce hitting Dick. Because they think fans eat that shit up ig. They are so attached to their shock value Bruce and Dick fights and their image of brooding Bruce that they won't address their fucked-up relationship and won't change the status quo. We have gotten many scenes of them being great together and having sweet moments, but those all feel tainted by the rest of it. It's as recent as the amnesia arc where Bruce re-traumatized Dick and then didn't help him when he was living in his car and then pretty much emotionally manipulated him to become Nightwing again. Recent comics really have forgotten what Batman is about.
And it sucks, because Dick is my fave of all faves, but I also love the hell out of Bruce Wayne, and it's so sad to see him be reduced to this... only brooding, borderline abusive asshole. They won't let him grow or develop. I don't mind conflict, and I like that they have a complicated relationship. I didn't even mind Bruce punching Dick, because it's interesting. Once was fine, twice was fine, the same thing happening all the time without addressing it and with no change across years is kind of a problem. I'm only keeping up with the Nightwing run out of loyalty to my boy, but from what I've heard of the events that are happening outside of that, it seems that they are having issues again, and I'm waiting for the next Batman issue that features Nightwing to also feature another punch or something. It's always Bruce being coddled by the story and never being asked to make the step forward, it's always Dick that has to give in and make Bruce feels better about his flaws and free him of any responsibility for his actions even when it's time for Bruce to step up and grow up.
It's why I prefer the animated adaptations or the retellings. I think world's finest did a good job with their relationship, I feel like Robin: Year 1 from back in the day did too, and Young Justice animated for its many flaws has a solid dynamic between them. They still have a complicated relationship, but it isn't so dramatically awful. It allows for a more balanced and well-rounded portrayal of the character when you aren't pandering to some people by flanderizing the character ig. Anyway, sorry for ranting, you're like my fave Dick Grayson blog so I just wanted to share. Hope this wasn't a bother.
No yeah I hated that aspect of Nightwing #100. If TT wanted to do a scene like that, he should’ve built up a conflict between Dick and Bruce to give us some context as to some type of thing Bruce actually needed to apologize for. Then he could’ve had Bruce apologize, Dick accept the apology, and end it with that reconciliation.
Instead, he just had Bruce apologize like, “I’m sorry I failed you, I’m sorry I pushed you away, I’m sorry if I ever made you feel like I wasn’t proud of you,” which would’ve hit much harder if, again, they had shown some kind of recent conflict between Bruce and Dick to warrant that sudden apology. And for Dick to then express his own hurt and such over said conflict. And then for them to come to some reconciliation. But yeah it’s very unsatisfying for Bruce to just list things he’s sorry for, and for Dick to hug him and just reassure Bruce. Like nooo let Bruce feel bad. Let Dick feel bad because of what Bruce did to him. Let Dick be angry. Let them both hurt. Then let them heal.
As for the amnesia arc, I feel like they really did a disservice to Bruce by not focusing enough on his trauma from the sniper incident. If they really stressed how much it traumatized him and then showed how his actions were effected by that (like giving him a dire need to have Dick return to normal bc otherwise it’s like Dick just died in his arms on that rooftop) then that is much more sad and compelling, and we can at least kind of see where Bruce is coming from by showing Dick the sniper video (though it would’ve been better if they just… hadn’t done that all).
If I had been writing that issue, I would’ve had it from Bruce’s POV where he would’ve constantly been in a state of flashbacks. Like seeing his parents getting killed and then comparing it to Dick getting shot. And then having flashbacks of Dick when he was younger but then Bruce imagining that Dick keeps getting shot in the head in each of those memories. And all of that literally just like… pushing Bruce over the edge. And then of course when Dick wakes up and asks Bruce “Who are you?” Bruce spirals even further. And we see his descent to this very isolated and dark place where he just wants his son back at all costs. That would’ve been waaaaay more interesting. Extremely dark ofc. But interesting.
Yeah the comic Dick and Bruce relationship can definitely be toxic (and I’m not totally opposed to that bc I think it makes things interesting between them), and there are animated shows that show them in a more balanced light. The Batman (2004) is one of those shows as well. Dick was Robin then ofc, and Bruce wasn’t so dark at that point in life. But when you watch shows like that, it reminds you of the character Bruce is supposed to be, and it reminds you of what you like the most about him. So definitely nice to watch shows like that sometimes to remind yourself of the Bruce Wayne that exists outside of modern comics.

OPLA: episode 8: pinwheels and mikan
OPLA episode 8: I assume that those who for the story is new, feel a lot more with Nami's Bellemère graveside scene—it was nice to keep the pinwheels with a tangerine motif (Nami's tattoo and the actual one she made, which Bellemère had made before for her in the live action), and I guess that the cultural significance might've been diminished if they were kept faithful to the manga, as in on Genzo's hat and more generically in front of Bellemère's grave.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I visited Aomori, and particular Osorezan, which is on Lake Usori--Osorezan symbolising hell, and the lake, purgatory (and also having been sacred to the Ainu), pinwheels dotted the foreshore, and also many of the monuments, statues (many mizuko) and graveyard monuments to, in particular, honour children who have died (and cannot fulfil their filial duty).
Tumblr media
picture from this post.
Kinda reversed with Nami's story, because neither Bellemère nor Nami could fulfil their obligations to one another, and I don't think Oda has ever made a big fuss of it (Genzo wore the pinwheel
cos it made Nami laugh, as I recall). According to a quick google, it represents the cycle of life. Adult to child again on death.
Tumblr media
Mikan (tangerines, although, not really) are also often offerings for jizou statues, of which mizuko in particular look over children (not a mizuko below, and see link above). But mikan are often placed generally at grave markers and so forth.
Tumblr media
Picture from this post.
Genzo kept his pinwheel for one scene in the live action. Even if they didn't have time to explain how important he had been to Nami and Bellemère
Tumblr media
Would have loved to have seen it a little more.
Tumblr media
Also, considering how important laughter and smiling is to the series as a whole, I would've liked a non-cheesy way, I guess, to emphasise how much Nami smiled when she was a child, and how important it was to Genzo that she keeps smiling, and that he knew she would, because she was free and on the right path.
Overall, though, good-ish development with Luffy and Garp. I guess, considering budget restraints, they'll try to concentrate on the two of them as a main subplot? I'm not exactly sure why they included it so early. Maybe to ground it in a bit of TV reality? Or to have a sure way of maintaining direction and tension. So the general viewer can know who Luffy is, maybe. I didn't mind, but maybe not at the expense of other parts of the story.
I did tear up at the boots on the barrel scene, although I've always thought that the crew has superb balance. Would've liked to have had the word 'nakama' included instead of 'friend', but that's for a future adaptation, I think. Helmeppo and Koby coming along swimmingly. Benn still looking like a geography teacher (sorry @nicos-robin!). Mihawk and Shanks camping it up on the beach (Lucky Roux looks well put together!). And Smoker being dramatic! Looking forward to the next season!

Yes to that comic version of Bruce! 👏 (what did you think of the bale batman and battinson?) Jensen is a bloody good actor but I just can't process him as the bat I look at him and my brain just says 💗soft💗 I liked the bale batman- although I can't see him as batdad but I can somehow see battinson trying to parent lol Jon Bernthal would make a killer batman for sure. I find it soo hard to fancast and I always end up changing my mind
Who is your Alfred? I love Michael Caine Alfred and I quite liked the Alfred from the Gotham TV series
I can't unsee Brenton Thwaites as Nightwing like in my mind the way Hugh Jackman shall forever be Wolverine and Ian McKellen is forever Gandalf, Brenton Thwaites is now my forever Nightwing. I really really want a Nightwing movie so bad. Have you seen the YouTube Nightwing series?
I've never heard of Tanner Buchanan before, but yo the green eyes sealed the deal there 💚 I find Jason the hardest to cast tbh
Griffin Gluck!! Have you seen locke and key? that's the only thing I've seen him in, Felix Mallard was in it too, I can sometimes envision Felix as Jason sometimes not, I've not seen a fancast before that has made me be like yes that is 100% Jason, I liked the hbo titans version of Jason but only as the hbo titans Jason if that even makes sense, little dude did so good in that role 👏 but anyways sorry for the Jason tangent lol !Griffin Gluck Tim Drake hell yeah! This is partly crack partly not but mostly crack but I can somewhat see Rebal D as Tim Drake the energy in his YouTube videos is at times very Tim to me
I wish dc would even just make a short mini movie, like 15 mins long, about Bruce trying to be a responsible father and damian just being damian 🤣
I know the ages for this arent right but oh well lol, I think I'd fancast Chance Perdomo as Duke, Emma Stone as Steph and Violet Orlandi as Cass, for the life of me I can't come up with anyone for Babara? (I love Violet as Cass, she's not even an actress but she could sooo do it)
Thanks for giving your fancast!! And 10 000% yes to the Wayne Family Adventures it's so perfect, I need to start reading that again. But yeah if you have anymore casting ideas for the batfam or villians etc I'd looovee to hear!
Hi anon!!! This is an AMAZING ask!!! Thank you so incredibly much for taking the time to send it! 🥰
This answer is going to be a bit lengthy so I'm going to put it under the break. And I am planning on doing another post of fancasting like this one for the extended Batfam members so I might not address all your points here, but they will be coming very soon! 😘
First of all, I am a big fan of both Bale and Pattinson's portrayals. I have a hard time picking a favorite because their approaches to the character are so different and yet both valid. I am VERY interested to see what they do with Battinson moving forward since this first movie is still early in his time wearing the cowl where he is still figuring out what Batman should be. And I would LOVE to see him get a Robin in the sequel (preferably sticking with Dick like the canon) but we shall see!
I'm not sure if you've seen The Boys, but Jensen's portrayal of Soldier Boy is all the proof to me that he could nail portraying Batman. And his range in Supernatural (from being a gruff and heartless hunter one minute to breaking down in a softer, protective emotional side the next) solidifies for me that he could switch between Batman to Batdad when needed. And he's charming as hell so Bruce wouldn't be a problem 😂
I'll have my new fancast of Alfred on my next post, but from previous ones, Michael Caine is always my Alfred. I think Andy Serkis is a great version of Alfred for Battinson and is what that Bruce needs (and his performance is great as always) and I enjoyed Sean Pertwee in Gotham (once again, a great interpretation for what *that* Bruce needed). However, Michael Caine was my first live-action Alfred and he was SO PERFECT, I don't think he will ever be topped as my favorite.
To be fair, I think Brenton Thwaites had the look for Dick and I think he could have been a good choice if the show was different, but for me, I can't get over how much Titans tone and interpretation of the characters/stories rubbed me the wrong way. None of the characters felt accurate to me based on their comic counterparts and the studio just tried to be too edgy and dark. The perfect example is the "Fuck Batman" moment. It was all over the trailers and just seemed like something they wanted to push to be like "this ain't your parent's Robin" but they pushed things so far it didn't even feel grounded in the characters I love. (don't even get me started on the Red Hood plot line).
I have seen the Nightwing youtube series and they do a really good job with it! My hope for this new direction of the DC movies and the fact The Brave and the Bold will focus on Bruce and Damian's relationship is that it means they'll include Nightwing and maybe mention Tim now working with the Titans (you don't want to include too many characters in the first movie which is the problem a lot of superhero movies have made lately). And I also want a mention of Jason but not have him returned as Red Hood yet which would be its own movie later.
Speaking of Jason.... While Dick is my first Robin and will always have a very special place in my heart because of that, Jason is my favorite. I just love how complex and rich his character development and story is. I also find casting him really difficult because of that. However, I do think Tanner Buchanan has a good potential. I've seen him in a few smaller roles, but I know he is a main character in Cobra Kai so he does have experience with fighting he could bring to the role (I haven't seen the show but I did watch clips on youtube). And as you pointed out, those green eyes are a big plus!
I think Curran Walters does a good job in Titans for what the show wants of him, but once again, it's just not my Jason and I rage quit season 3 😂 (though I watched clips of key Red Hood moments from later in the season)
Tim is always the hardest member of the main Batfam for me to write or cast just because he is the one I have the least knowledge or experience with outside of fanfics. However, I still really like him as a character and think he has a lot of potential in a movie or show. And I haven't seen Locke and Key (though it is on my list because I LOVE Aaron Ashmore)
I am excited with the prospect of having Bruce and Damian together in The Brave and the Bold, but I am also very nervous about how they will characterize them. All the Batman projects since Batman Begins have skewed very dark and I don't think that works well if you bring in the whole Batfam (if they just want to add Dick with Battinson, I think that could work but not expanding it to the whole gang). But James Gunn's comments about making the new Superman movie more about kindness feels like it will be a brighter, lighter version (more like the Christopher Reeve movies than the Henry Cavill ones) which I feel is more accurate to most comics, so I am cautiously optimistic for the Batfam in these movies. However, the canon and fanon versions of the Batfam don't always match (neither does the canon version between comic writers), but I am still hopeful for the more loving version we want, and is portrayed fairly well in the DC Animated movies.
As for Duke, Cass, Steph, and Barbara, I'm going to include them in my next post so you will have to wait a little to get my thoughts on them as well as a few others😉
Though because you brought up ages I will mention that all of my castings are based on if I were making a movie or show today. There are a lot of different people I would have loved to have in these roles in the past that are unfortunately just too old at this point.
And just another shout-out to Wayne Family Adventures because it is everything I ever wanted from a Batfam comic/story!!! Plus, the art is so perfect! Yes, the comic is a lot of fan service, but it is really funny while also being deep and emotional at times. It never loses the heart of the characters and you can tell there is so much love in the project and for these characters. If we could get a show or even a web series of this version of the Batfam, it would be a dream come true!

for steddie please 😊
This is such a good one, I got a little out of control. My 500 word ficlet took on a mind of its own and became almost 3k of fluff. I'm calling this one Oh Good God, I'm Tongue Tied. You can read it on AO3 here! Thanks for the request @mxnson13 <3
From the moment they all realized they were heading in different directions for college, their after graduation plan was put into motion.
As a young kid just happy to be accepted by any school at all, Steve didn’t hold much hope of their plan actually coming to fruition. It was hard to grab onto anything for too long at that age. Yet, the longer Steve was away from his friends, the more he understood the need for something so concrete to look forward to.
Unlike Steve’s initial assumption, making lasting friendships that took his mind away from missing Eddie, Robin, and Nancy all at once was not an easy task. By the time Christmas vacation rolled around, Steve was desperate to be back amongst the people who made him feel the safest, the ones he got to call his own.
The long hug they all shared made Steve think he wasn’t the only one missing out on the easy camaraderie.
Despite the years passing, being away from his found family never got any easier. No matter how successful Steve was or how amazing he actually found school and the classes for his major, the pull of the people he loved was always greater, always more.
Finally, the year they’d all been waiting for was upon them. Steve and Robin worked out the perfect way to make it to each other’s graduations before heading out of state to catch Nancy and Eddie’s. After that, they were set to board a plane to California for a week of sun, sand, and glorious freedom. Not even the manuscript he just sold sitting heavily in his backpack could excite Steve more than the thought of their years’ worth of planning finally coming to fruition.
Well, that wasn’t entirely true.
See, Steve harbored a very big, very secret crush on his best friend. Eddie Munson was the embodiment of all things wild and free. He wore what he wanted, he said whatever came to mind, and he lived his life with such an ease that at first, Steve thought the tingly feeling in his stomach was jealousy. It took many months and a few embarrassing dreams for the truth to finally click.
Once it did, however, Steve had no idea what to do with himself. There were many times throughout their friendship that Steve thought Eddie might have been feeling the same way. When Steve came out as bisexual, Eddie’s eyes lit up so brightly, the shine was distracting. To this very day, Steve still couldn’t decide if his admittance or the potential that came from it pleased Eddie the most.
None of his friend’s actions ever gave Eddie away, either. Despite their closeness (and the hot and heavy chemistry that absolutely existed between them), Steve had no real idea of where their relationship stood.
To drive that point home a little further, Steve didn’t know what Eddie was doing next with his life, either.
One of the main reasons that Steve never stepped a toe over the friend boundary was the distance between them. Steve wasn’t all that good at making relationships work when the person was sitting right next to him. He shuddered to think what long distance would be like. Steve understood his heart to know he wanted all of Eddie – if the day ever came that his friend wanted more, Steve couldn’t settle for anything less.
So, friendship was where they stayed. Though, Steve was kidding himself if he thought for a second that he wouldn’t immediately jump at the opportunity for more.
Which, in the back of his mind, Steve hoped this trip would be. Hence… the anticipation.
Sitting next to Eddie on the flight, Steve was buzzing with energy. He had so many things he wanted to tell the man next to him, so many things he needed to admit. The overflow of it all came forth in the shake of his leg and the rhythmic clench and release of his fingers on the armrests.
“Are you a nervous flyer?” Eddie asked, lightly placing his hand on Steve’s forearm. The softest squeeze followed those caring words.
Steve forced himself to cease his movement, though the effort was great. Sucking in a large breath, he shook his head. “No, I fly all the time. I’m just – excited. This trip is all I’ve been thinking about for four years. I can’t believe we’re finally going on it.”
A knowing smile pulled at Eddie’s lips and the hand on Steve’s arm squeezed again. “I know what you mean. The end of this semester couldn’t get here fast enough.”
There was something about the way that Eddie didn’t move his arm or stop his staring that made Steve’s anxiety drop down to the floor. The humming buzz of ‘what if’ became manageable in the face of Eddie’s easy proclamation. Though nothing was concrete, Steve felt a stirring in his gut that told him everything was going to be alright.
Steve wasn’t really sure what that actually meant but he’d learned to trust his instincts. They did save him a time or two, after all.
Somewhere over the middle of the central US, Steve fell asleep. The weeks of cramming for finals and fine tuning every last detail of his book deal had Steve beyond exhausted. Up until that moment, however, he hadn’t felt safe to really let go. Not truly. His sleep suffered the same way it always did. And like always, Eddie was a balm of comfort that never ceased to help curb the nightmares and chase his dreams away.
Eddie must’ve been pretty exhausted, too, because his head was leaned against Steve’s when the plane touched down. Blinking his eyes open, Steve came to as gently and quietly as possible – this sort of thing had never happened before. Steve was usually pulling himself away with an embarrassed smile when Eddie gently shook him awake. Experiencing Eddie’s vulnerability was new and exciting. Maybe a little hope inducing, too.
Eventually, those big brown eyes opened and his best friend returned to reality. While he did stiffen slightly, Eddie thankfully made no move to forcibly yank himself away from their intimate embrace. In fact, they stayed like that, curled up together between their two plane seats, until people got up to deboard.
The next few hours were a whirlwind of getting checked into their hotel room and handing their bags over to a concierge that would hold them until they were ready to head up for the night. The San Diego beach was calling their names, so no one wasted any time changing or fretting or trying to get settled in. Robin already had a spot in mind and was leading them out the door the moment she could.
True to form, Robin opened the door to the closest gay bar. Unlike those near Purdue where Steve went to school, this place was hopping, practically filled to the brim with girls and boys and all the people in between. Steve, despite being out of the closet for many years, felt out of place, like maybe he wasn’t gay enough to exist in such a mecca.
Eddie, however, looked like a kid in a candy store. His usual excitement bubbled over in such a way that made it impossible for Steve to keep worrying. The smile on Eddie’s face was stunning and Steve wanted to be a part of the reason it lingered on his lips for the rest of the night.
Between the thrumming of the music, all the bodies, and the bigness of the place, getting a drink took longer than they all expected. Steve was grateful to finally feel the shot of tequila go down his throat. He made a deal with himself when they walked in – a little liquid courage was necessary to step so far out of his comfort zone.
Before Steve could talk himself out of it, he turned to Eddie with a hopeful smile on his face. “Do you want to dance?”
Without hesitation, Eddie nodded eagerly. “Hell yeah, I do. Show me what you’ve got, big boy.”
Snorting, because that nickname never got old, Steve grabbed Eddie’s hand. He carefully laced their fingers and used their tethered grip to tug Eddie out onto the dancefloor.
The music’s beat was a fast one that thumped delightfully against Steve’s chest. He closed his eyes for a second to catch the flow of it around him. Then, Steve started to move. His hands eagerly took ahold of Eddie’s hips to pull him closer.
“I’m not familiar with fancy dancing, that one-two-three-four, shit,” Steve said as Eddie settled himself against Steve’s chest, “but I know how to follow the beat.” To prove his point, Steve swiveled his hips in perfect time to the music swallowing them up.
Though Eddie didn’t say anything out loud, the way he pressed back into Steve’s touch and let him lead their movements seemed like answer enough. Song after song, their bodies danced in sync, perfectly twisting and grinding and gyrating together. It felt like they’d been following the other’s step for years, not a handful of sweaty minutes.
But, maybe Steve’s first thought was really true. Steve spent the entire summer following Vecna’s defeat trying to fend off his feelings for Eddie. As they grew closer, their lives started to line up without either of them even noticing. And though they didn’t come together that summer or the one after that or the next three, Steve felt their bond deepening all the same.
He chalked it up to wishful thinking.
This new development, however, had him hoping otherwise.
The night went by so fast that Steve didn’t realize how long they’d been dancing together until the lights came up for last call. Steve had to stop himself from groaning when the spell broke and Eddie finally dragged his body away. The small bit of space between them suddenly felt like millions of miles not a few inches.
“You were right,” Eddie said, wiping his brow.
Steve waited until they were out of the mass of people before replying. “About what?” His mind was all over the place, he couldn’t recall a single thing that happened earlier. The cognizant part of Steve was still out on the dancefloor, pulling Eddie close.
“Following the beat. I don’t think we missed it once tonight.”
For some reason, Steve’s neck flushed red. The pit of want in his belly sparked to life, made even hotter by the knowing look that Eddie had in his eye. Instead of waiting for Steve to flounder around and come up with something to say, Eddie grabbed his hand and laced their fingers together. He then dragged Steve out the front door to wait by the corner for Robin and Nancy.
There was a slight chill on the air that brushed across Steve’s skin. A shiver ran up his spine that made him wrap both arms around his middle. He tried to hug himself warm but the mixture of sweat and thin clothes did nothing to block out the cold.
Seeing Steve’s problem, Eddie narrowed down the space between them so they were once again sharing body heat. One of Eddie’s hands was still tethered to Steve’s but the other was free to reach up and wrap around broad shoulders. With the slightest pull, they were chest to chest, breathing the very same air.
And that’s how they stayed until Robin and Nancy came bumbling around the corner, drunk off their asses and attached at the lips. Despite knowing they reached Steve and Eddie, the girls didn’t quit until the need to suck in oxygen became absolutely necessary. Only then did they acknowledge their friends’ presence. Though, even that was brief.
Knowing the PDA was only going to get worse the closer they got to their hotel, Steve and Eddie stayed back a few paces, giving their friends a little privacy. Though it wasn’t the smartest thing to be so open about their affection for each other, Steve and Robin picked this neighborhood in San Diego because of its gay presence. They wouldn’t be the only ones waving that particular flag throughout the week.
They made it back to the hotel a little after 3AM. The lobby was all but deserted – even the hotel’s bar was quiet. After all the loud music, Steve found the absence of noise to be a little underwhelming. The lingering tiredness he tried to nap away on the plane came roaring back without the abundance of stimulus.
By the time Steve and Eddie got up to their room, both were close to passing out on their feet. Though, neither was sleepy enough to miss the very big, very singular bed in the middle of the room. It was huge and looked delightfully soft, but out of place all the same. Instead of the two queens that Robin promised she booked for them, one king took its place, taunting them.
They shared a long look, both trying to figure out what was going on and the problem’s best solution. Eddie broke the silence first.
“We can share. It’s not like we’ve never slept in the same bed before, Stevie.” His lips were quirked in a drunken yet hopeful smile. “We used to cram ourselves into the Wheeler’s basement. This’ll be a piece of cake.”
Unable to think clearly, Steve merely nodded his head. He wasn’t in any position to fight or go down to the lobby to demand a different room. Between the alcohol they drank and the late hour, Steve was genuinely surprised he was still standing. The ability to think complex thoughts no longer existed.
Instead of working to remember why he didn’t want to share a bed in the first place, Steve kicked off his shoes, pulled down his jeans, and crawled into bed. He barely recalled Eddie getting under the covers with him before the pull of sleep dragged him down and under.
Steve absolutely recalled the reason he should’ve been wary the next morning when he woke up with his arm thrown over Eddie’s hip. Like magnets, their bodies found each other throughout the night so that Steve’s chest was pressed up against Eddie’s back. After so many years of distance and space, none remained between them. Absolutely none.
Registering that other parts of him were also aware of Eddie’s presence, Steve started to pull himself away. A strong hand grabbing his forearm stopped him.
“Don’t go. I’m comfy, just like this.” Eddie’s voice was sleep clogged and deep, both sexy and absolutely adorable.
Rolling his eyes at that thought, Steve went to pull away again.
With a huff, Eddie turned in Steve’s arms so they were face to face. “Didn’t you hear me. Don’t go.” Eddie reached his left hand up, cupping Steve’s cheek. “Stop fighting this, Steve. It’s okay.”
Despite being shocked, Steve leaned into the touch of Eddie’s hand. “I’m scared.”
“You don’t have to be. I’ve been waiting years for you to finally come to your senses.”
Eddie didn’t give Steve any more time to think about what that meant or how that affected things between them. He leaned forward and placed his lips upon Steve’s, kissing him soundly. Morning breath be damned.
There was no argument that would ever beat the feeling of finally coming home.
Not even Steve and his stubbornness could conjure one up.

"I'm not Eddie? I'm not fucking Eddie?!" The supposed Eddie look alike shouted, making everyone raise their guards. "You know, if I wasn't Eddie," He slowly turned towards Steve. "I wouldn't know your secret." Manic laughs erupted from his mouth as he watched the fear take over Steve's face. He took slow steps, making his walk over to Steve dramatic. "I know how much you want to hide it. How much you've cried over it. How much you loathe it. How much you're enamored by it." Steve swallowed harshly, feeling all eyes on him. "Please don't do this." Steve whispered. "Huh? What was that?" Eddie put his hand to his ear, waiting for Steve to repeat his sentence. "Leave him alone." Robin chimed up, attempting to free Steve of his living nightmare.
"C'mon Stevie." Eddie whispered as he drew closer to Steve. "If... If you're the real Eddie, you wouldn't do this to us." Steve firmly spoke. "Us? There is no us. There never was. You really thought this was real?" Each of Eddie's words was like a gunshot through Steve's heart. He stood frozen, the words ringing in his ears. The dreadful truth now on full display. "Oh." Steve let the words fall from his lips, not even attempting to hide his disappointment. "You were never anything more to me than a quick fuck." Eddie let his anger flow out of his body. "I never fucking liked you." Eddie waited for a response but was only met with complete silence. "You hear me?! I never fucking liked you!" He screamed at Steve who was now on the verge of tears.
His every fear was coming true, having Eddie turn his back on him. The one thing that made him physically sick to think about, and here he is facing everything he tried so hard to deny. "You're an asshole!" Lucas shouted, causing Eddie to break his attention away from Steve. "Oh." He laughed in an eerily way. "I'm an asshole? For having a little fun with Stevie boy?" Eddie asked Lucas in a belittling manner. Lucas hesitantly nodded. Will lifted his hand towards the back of his neck, which Mike was quick to notice. "Then, you're really about to hate what's gonna happen next." Almost as if on cue the ground began to shake beneath them and low, grumbling laughs began to fill their ears. "I warned you that your world would fall." A deep, gurgling voice sent chills down the entirety of the group's spines.
"Vecna..." Lucas whispered. They quickly began to search for the crazed demon like creature, all except one. One whose eyes couldn't bare to look away from the maniac he once loved, that he still loves. "You pitful humans. Always having optimism and... hope." A dreadful laugh rumbled that seemed to encase them. "Come out, coward!" Jonathan called out into the void, but to no avail the creature did not bring himself forward. "Your world is now mine." Bats began swarming around the group. "Uhhh, I'm not liking this, brochachos." Argyle spun in a circle, looking at the bats that have now trapped them.
Nancy was the first to take action. She quickly grabbed one of the gallons of gasoline and poured it out recklessly, hoping it would fall onto the vines. Robin and Jonathan quickly took after her, mimicking her frantic behavior. "It's too late. Give up." His silhouette appeared visible as he slowly walked toward the group. "Hurry!" Mike shouted. Nancy quickly lit the lighter and tossed it into the gasoline.
The fire started quickly and the bats began dropping one by one. El kept her eyes on Vecna. He seemed to be unaffected by the raging fire. She walked forward and prepared herself for a battle she knew she would never be ready for. "Don't do this, Eleven." The voice almost sounded robotic, as if he were a toy with a sound box that was melting. "We can be one in the same." He stopped walking just before he became visible. "No." El raised her hand, starting to use her powers. She stepped forward as she used her powers to keep him in a telekinetic chokehold. The rest of the group spread apart, trying to avoid the fire, whereas Steve just continued to stare at Eddie who looked unsure of himself.
Steve studied Eddies every feature. Trying anything and everything to prove that wasn't the real Eddie, but eventually all he could find was nothing. Soon, Eddie picked up on the fact Steve was staring at him. He could sense Steve's eyes on him but refused to look towards him. It hurt. To hear Steve say that he never loved him was a pain that was unbearable, even for the undead.
"Steve! Look out!" Robin called out for Steve as the fire approached him, but he didn't move a muscle. The warmth of the fire formed beads of sweat all over his body. He was focused on Eddie. "Why aren't you moving? Do you have a death wish?" Eddie spoke with uncertainty in his voice. "What is there to live for if you aren't even alive." Eddie finally met Steve's gaze, immediately regretting it. Nancy carefully avoided the fire as she pulled Steve away from it, causing Eddie and Steve staring match to come to an end. "What the hell is wrong with you? Didn't you see the fire? Or feel the fire?!" Robin swatted Steve's arm. "Sorry." Steve spoke with a dead voice.
El continued to use her powers on Vecna, seemingly winning. Though, they should have known better than to turn their backs on someone they left to die. Eddie pulled Dustin back, holding him tightly so that he couldn't escape his grasp. "What are you doing!?" Dustin tried to squirm out of Eddie's grasp, which grabbed the attention of several people. "I'm getting my revenge, Henderson." He smirked before biting Dustin's neck, letting blood pour out. Dustin screamed as it happened, causing everyone to refocus towards the sound, including El. Steve looked at the boy, who now was dropped onto the ground, in disbelief. "Whoever said 'revenge is a dish best served cold' obviously never had it served hot." Eddie laughed as he licked Dustin's blood off his lips.

Ok, I was thinking that the reader "suffers" from the same parasomnia I have; it's called REM-sleep behavior disorder and basically it means that you "live" out your dreams on occasion when you sleep. Normally the part of the brain that controls the body is resting when we dream, that's why we stay in bed, but with RSBD, it doesn't. So sometimes I end up running in bed when I dream I'm running to catch the train. Or I karate kick the bedside table because I dream that I fight someone. Or scream bloody murder because I have a nightmare. Anyway, I thought, the reader has that too, and that she's in relationship with either Eddie or Steve, and friends with the other, and whoever she's friends with notices that she's suddenly got a lot of bruises and gets scared that she's being abused, but in reality it's because bf has to hold her when she dreams, and it shows out when the friend comes by late at night thinking to "catch" the bf, and reader is asleep but suddenly she's screaming from the bedroom like she's being murdered, and the boyfriend is like "yeah, she has a nightmare".
Warnings; Some angst, fluff.
@slightlyvicked hope you like this.
"Shh, it's okay baby, I've got you. I've got you" Eddie soothes her and holds her gently to his chest.
She wakes up, her legs in a tangle around the sheets, sweat on her forehead. Eddie's gentle tones relax her and she winces, her legs ache a little, she had a dream that she was running and that resulted In her running in her sleep.
Due to the parasomnia she had sometimes, she would live out her dreams. Like running in her sleep, sometimes she would scream in her sleep and scream out loud due to nightmares.
It was called a REM-sleep behaviour disorder or RSBD and it was due to the part of the brain that is meant to be resting when we dream, with RSBD it didn't rest.
Eddie was amazing when she went through and he was always there for her, holding her tight, speaking to her soothingly and kissing her hair.
"Thank you for being here Eddie," she says and cuddles into him and his scent soothes her, Old Spice and cigarettes, it calmed her down every time.
"Always princess".
Steve was on a mission with Robin.
"Dingus, this is Eddie we are talking about there is no way in hell that he would ever hurt yn". Steve nods.
"Look, deep down I know that but she still has bruising on her arms and I can't think of a reason that it would be there like that, it looks like finger-shaped bruising Robin".
Robin quitens.
"She's one of my best friends and I need to make sure she is okay, which is why I am going over to her house, with you and see what's going on".
A mix of anger and nerves were building in his stomach because if Eddie was hurting yn then there would be hell to pay.
He rings the doorbell to her house and Eddie answers, he smiles.
"Hey Harrington, Robin" Robin gives Eddie a little wave but Steve cuts to the chase.
"Where is she? I want to see yn! She has bruises on her arms Eddie, finger-shaped bruising and if I find out you've hurt her...
Eddie gapes then grows annoyed.
"What the fuck! I would never ever hurt my princess, she's my world".
Steve frowns.
"Then why does she have the bruises then? I don't understand" at this point they all hear screaming and Eddie jumps into action.
"Shit" he races upstairs with Steve at his heels and Robin following.
Eddie enters yn's bedroom and Steve is anguished as he sees her thrashing around on the bed screaming and crying.
"Shh, it's okay sweetheart, I'm here" she slowly wakes up and throws her arms around Eddie who kisses her forehead.
"Eddie? Why are Steve and Robin here" Steve steps forward and explains his theories and she softens.
"Sit down Stevie, I'll explain everything" she does, she tells him about RSBD, how she lives out her dreams while she sleeps, and how Eddie holds her tight to him.
Steve is immediately apologetic but she doesn't mind. It was sweet he was protective.
"It's okay Stevie" Eddie kisses her forehead.
"Hey while you guys are here maybe we could have a movie night or something?" Eddie suggests and Robin beams.
"Ooh, I have a few suggestions if that's okay?", Yn gets up and gently kisses Steve on the cheek.
"Come on Stevie. I have Oreos with our name on them and hot chocolate" she cuddles into Eddie and they all head downstairs for movies and popcorn and cocoa.

Thoguhts on the one piece live action? I was skeptical at first but I’m kinda excited now 👀 and who would you like to see cast as the rest of the crew?
I am excited! At first I was skeptical too, long before the cast was announced actually... because the reputation of live action adaptations speaks for itself... But this cast? They've charmed me, honestly. And I think it says a lot that Oda chose them and met them and agreed with the choices.
The cast ifself exceeds such strawhat energy and they are all so genuine and excited!! And you can see them trying not to let the pressure get to them by being optimistic. I mean, they've done their research, they're interactive with the fandom, they're fans themselves and I'm optimistic overall that their acting performances will be well done.
I am not nitpicking about certain changes in character design like the lack of Usopp's ridiculously long nose or Sanji's eyebrow. They look fine as it is. I think people have to realise that when adapting into another medium you can't just do it 1:1... it wouldn't work, it would seem like a cosplay movie that doesn't take itself seriously. Being open for creative changes is the only way to look at a live action and so far I'm actually looking forward to see what they've accomplished. And I can't wait to introduce others to OP this way, especially my dad, lol.
I am not setting my expectations too high, but if the OP LA show can at least be entertaining in it's own right and be a somewhat cringy but still fun watch, I am totally fine with that! I am not expecting a master piece. I just hope they don't squeeze too much into little episodes.
The CGI is something I am not too fond of, regarding the sea dragon mostly, I am sure they could do better, but I thought Luffy's stretching looks just as ridiculous as I imagined! In a good way. Because that's his power! The devil fruit is meant to be crazy and silly! And I think with the shot we've seen it looked fairly decent.
I was impressed that they did the green hair with Zoro, I was actually not sure they'd do it because it's hard to get the right tone in real life and make it not look bad. But they did a good job, honestly. The action sequences we've seen so far also looked promising.
I love that the team and cast are dedicated to be close to the source material as possible, but still take different approaches and do minor changes.
I am so excited about a lot of things actually, seeing little Luffy and SHANKS (Peter Gadiot as Shanks is still a casting I am so so hyped about!). Luffy's and Zoro's meeting and the little girl trying to feed Zoro the rice balls... they've already casted those characters so we will definitely get to see those moments and I am wondering how emotional Arlong Park is going to be - especially the Nami-stabbing scene (if they even do it, but I'd really hope they won't erase this fundamental moment).
If the LA ever gets that far, I could see Anya Chalotra actually as a nice Robin, even though she isn't Russian she's got the tan and looks and she can act. But then again, I don't really have a preference - I trust the team to find the right people. Though I have seen some fancasts like Elizaveta Boyarskaya and Yulia Persild that I liked.
Yasmeen Fletcher as Vivi, also a fancast, but a good one.
I am pretty open about that, I mean, see how nice the cast is we got. We don't need big Hollywood names. But then again, if big Hollywood actors WANT to be a part of it, then why not? Jaime Lee Curtis loves One Piece and it would be awesome if she could play Dr Kureha. I am pretty sure if the show suceeds and continues that they'd invite her into this. Anyway, it's still time left and we can only wait and see how the show turns out. Either way, I am optimistic and even if it turns out bad, it won't change my opinion of the cast - they don't deserve any hate or negativity for simply doing their job. You can't make everyone happy and that's it.

Something was very wrong. Robin had sensed it in Nancy ever since Barb had gone missing from Steve Harrington's party and disappeared into the woods. It had been understandable, really; they were all worried about her and frustrated that the Hawkins PD's search had yet to turn up any results. But it hadn't been Nancy's behaviour alone that had led Robin to the Byers house, of all places, on this cold November evening. Instead it was the way she'd witnessed both Nancy and Jonathan Byers downtown shopping for hunting supplies earlier in the day. Seeing them load up Jonathan's car with bear traps and hammers and gasoline from across the street... Robin wanted to make sure they weren't gonna try anything stupid.
“ Hey! Don't go in there! ” A voice pulled her attention away from the front door as she approached, and Robin's brow furrowed at once.
“ Harrington? ” Nancy's asshole boyfriend was stood by his car, door open, staring wide-eyed at the house as if it might reach out from its foundations and grab him. His face looked just as messed up as it had earlier in the afternoon when she'd caught him cleaning off spray paint from the movie theater marquee. The rumour was that he'd been the one to put it there in the first place. But none of that explained the alarm or urgency in his tone, or the way it looked like he'd just seen a ghost. Robin glanced from the front door back to him again. “ What are you talking about? ”
He didn't say anything, but his eyes nervously shifted from her back to the house, and Robin followed his line of sight this time. The warm yellow light emanating from the windows were suddenly flickering, and before Robin had a chance to ask Steve about it, he was already making a beeline for the door. She instinctively followed.
“ I'm serious. You should go home. ” He hissed the words at her right as his hand reached the door handle, but it wasn't the deterrent that Steve had maybe been hoping for. He was being serious, no doubt about that. But there was still no explanation, and if Steve Harrington was here that surely meant that Nancy was here too. Inside. Why else would he be here? Jonathan Byers was about as low down the social food chain as she was.
Besides, she wasn't about to let the bane of her history class tell her what to do.
Robin carefully crept into the living room after him but, where Steve immediately sprung into action, she could only stare. A monster — there was no other word for it — with a face that had opened up was in the Byers living room advancing on Nancy. She had a gun in her hand, but it had run out of bullets. As it moved to finally strike, Steve threw himself in the way, wielding a baseball bat with nails sticking out of it.
The distraction he'd provided finally spurred Robin into motion. “ Nancy! ” As Steve pulled the monster's attention, Robin reached forward to grab her friend's arm and pull her out of the way. She watched Steve's silhouette flash against the flickering lights as he pushed the creature into the hallway. “ What the hell is going on? ” @gunspluraltm

Feeling alone on this, but I really enjoyed like 80% of season 4! Given this wasn't the series finale, I'm not ready to trash the duffers out over a still incomplete story. As long as things wrap up right and the suffering ends with happiness for our gang! A theme of this season was communication, literally across locations and inter-personally between the characters. So I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that a lot of the relationship mess we're upset about might be intentional to resolve next season? Trying to stay positive.
The 💖👍🏾:
Jopper! Just everything about them, couldn't have asked for more. A passionate and soft kiss. Flirting. The talks. All the hand holding/hugging/touching. Huge contrast from tension last season. Byers-Hopper family reunion. Even Joyce getting to kill a demo-dog, I got everything I wanted from these two.
The horror elements. Vecna/001. Explanation into the upside down + tie-ins to past seasons etc.
Max & Lucas. Their individually plots and as Lumax. From emotional and supportive, to cute, to heartbreaking. The creel house scene had me a sobbing mess. Sadie and Caleb were amazing this year!
Was happy to get some Sinclair sibling scenes. And the interaction between all the parents was amusing.
Eddie Munson guitar solo. Eddie Munson period. I'm going to miss him so much.
The one on ones. They were nice moments and really made me nervous for everyone's fate.
Argyle was a treat. The humor breaks overall are always enjoyable in the series.
The battle scene was a good time! The music/score (!!) , the action of everyone kicking ass together from their locations. Hopper fighting the demogorgon with a sword. Nancy & Robin torching Vecna. El fighting Vecna.
The ending. Again with the music and the visuals.
The 😖:
Was looking forward to more El living with the Byers. Joyce and El mother-daughter, sibling stuff with Will and Jonathan. Would have swapped out the extended bully scenes for it. Or at least a one on one with El & Joyce after the dinner scene.
Will Byers / Byler fans being done dirty all around. He was third wheeled, then sidelined and miserable all season. I'm not even that into Byler (mostly due to my feelings on Mike and his attitude) but I literally cringed at the "tender emotional music" being used for m*leven all the sudden and Will's feelings a catalyst for that love confessions (yikes). Then there's all the beating around the bush, thought they'd at least have him come out + reveal his feelings for Mike to Jonathan. Making the monologue more weighted with solid confirmation to the audience (people who are blind apparently) and knowledge from Jonathan. Or honestly just had a mutual m*leven breakup leaving the last season to deal with Mike's end but now...everything would be so crammed. Honestly I wish the painting was a thing anyway considering what it turned out to be/used for.
As a black person, it was an uncomfortable af seeing Erica and Lucas being held down/held at gunpoint by those jocks. Nice seeing them knock them both tf out though, so there's that.
Wanted more Erica Sinclair on my screen and utilized better than to make sassy comments (which I love her for of course but ya know). I want her involved with coming up with the genius plan next season.
No one mentioning or mourning Eddie outside of Dustin pissed me off a little. Steve and Robin spent all season with him and Mike was in Hellfire Club. Makes no sense.
Putting to the back of my mind since there's a S5, but the loose ends/questions. Where did Murray, Dimitri and Yuri go? What's up with Owens? What did they do with Eddie's body? So Ms.Kelley wasn't involved/evil? Are/can the Byers go back to California, is there a warrant for El? A time jump would make zero sense.
The 😐:
I didn't hate the Stancy revival. Mainly because a big part of their relationship ending was out of Nancy's guilt about Barb. So makes sense to bring it back up alongside Vecna surfacing traumas. Plus I'm a sucker for finding each other again after being apart kind of thing and J*ncy is hanging by a thread. However I would say I am annoyed with the show having Nancy torn between Steve and Jonathan constantly. She hasn't been completely content with either one for a decent stretch of time. Girl, pick one!
To add on, throwing J*ncy and M*leven back together after hanging by a thread all season with no real resolution to their issues. They're just good now I guess??

(feel free to ignore if you deem my questions too spoilery!)
hi!! i fucking Love the hawkins indiana psychic baby boom series thank you so much for sharing your brainchild with us. i saw in the final chapter end notes that part 3 is underway and i was wondering... will eddie make an early appearance, like robin did (for which by the way i kiss the ground you walk on)? since you're not doing s4 if i got that correctly. and do you have shipping in store for him? since his most popular partner is out for the count (yay stoncy!!) it occured to me that chrissy might be a player and i would love to see her in your hands, she has so much potential!! st s4 really made me ride or die for her in 10 minutes
also also... steve and barb's conversation about heartbreak and icecream made me think... was that a setup for barb hanging out at the mall a lot in the summer? i am greatly looking forward to steve & robin (naturally, im predictable like that) and i am also very 👀 about barb being an occasional addition... if steve & robin still get their summer jobs i suppose
well anyway! sorry for the rain of questions lolol. i really enjoy your writing and im looking forward to what you have in store for us!!
Anon I am squishing your cheeks together like an aunt with a beloved nibling.
Hello and thank you! This AU was entirely an exercise in self-indulgence for me, and I'm absolutely thrilled that it's made other people happy as well. (Honestly, I was expecting to lose some people with this second fic and the heavy foreshadowing of my favourite pool noodle of a ship, Joyce/Bob/Hopper, but instead I had three separate people tell me they hadn't considered the ship but now they were invested in seeing it happen in the AU, which I am counting as the biggest of wins.)
You read that right, I am wrapping it up after the third part. I've made some significant changes to the plot of season 3 (which...would have had to have happened anyway, considering how many things are different going in), and I'm hoping they'll make the antagonists and themes of the third part a better match to the first two and wrap the AU up nicely with a bow and a cherry on top. I still (yeah, still) haven't finished s4, because I'm still grumpy about it, but I have borrowed a couple of cues from one of the directions it took that I did like.
Having not finished s4 yet, I also have to say I'm not particularly invested in its new characters or in shipping them, and I'm not going to make them a big part of the storyline. I'm more concerned with making sure the characters I've already got in play in the AU get a fair shake and a satisfying ending. With that said, though, I haven't been living in a total bubble, I'm not made of stone, and I know people are excited to see Eddie and Chrissy. So. Don't expect much, but I'm not gonna totally leave them out, either. (ETA: I reread this and it sounds like such a bummer, lmao. Does it help if I say I got the BIGGEST evil grin when I finally figured out what to do with Eddie, and I’m reprising that evil grin thinking about how you’re going to react when you get to see it?)
As for the mall...it's a big part of s3, and also, I've been badly nostalgic for the malls of my youth (you know, before half or more of the stores were empty wherever you went and the general aura whenever you set foot inside one was of slow decline and misery). So yeah, Starcourt's absolutely still going to be a big part of the action. What that means for each of the characters, individually or otherwise, I'll leave you to speculate on, for now!
(Please feel very welcome to speculate. In my inbox, even! I love hearing about what people think is going on or going to happen next in my fics! I do however reserve the right to answer anything I feel is spoilery - or anything that's not actually spoilery, but I just feel like being a troll about - with a gif of an axolotl.)

THE ONE PIECE DIARIES
Episode Count: 150
These 50-episode milestones never seem to leave me in a perfect denouement area of whatever conflict is happening at the time... Oh well. There have been a lot of little things leading up to this point that I've kind of wanted to talk about but felt too small to make a whole post for.
I've reached the end of Alabasta. And while I was sad to see the end of Vivi's travels with the crew... I never really expected her to stay. It was a fun idea to entertain for that one episode. But she has responsibilities to her country. If she ran off to be a pirate, what would it have all been for?
Honestly, what I'm more disappointed in with everything that went down in Alabasta... is that there were no lasting consequences for the "deaths" we saw. I can deal with Igaram's miraculous return to life... After all, Robin is supposed to be one of the good guys, going forward. But I have to call bullshit on Pell surviving that explosion. It's not that it diminishes his actions... What he did is just as noble, because I'm sure he expected to die. But from a storytelling point of view, it feels like it diminishes the moment.
There were just a few other little moments that I really enjoyed in those final Alabasta episodes. The strawhat crew all collapsing out of exhaustion together as soon as they'd assured Vivi they were fine and she should go on ahead without them. And if I had an inkling they'd be likable characters before... I'm really fond of Smoker and Tashigi now. I love that Smoker marches to the beat of his own morals and refused to listen to his superiors glossing over the events with Crocodile to make it sound like they'd been the true heroes of the day. And I'm still really looking forward to watching Tashigi grow, because I feel like that's really going to take off now, whenever we see them next.
And onto the more recent stuff... Where episode 150 actually leaves us off is with our crew getting ready to head for the geyser that should take them to Sky Island. And with Luffy about to face off against Bellamy.
There's a lot I'm already liking about this new arc. There's just been something fun about it so far. I may not like Bellamy himself, but I really like his design, actually. For reasons I can't quite put into words. It's simple, but fitting. And I kind of hope he'll be around for more than just their stopover on this little island before they head off to the big adventure.
But moreover, I feel like Bellamy and his outlook on life has brought up something really important about the world. In a way, he's like the generic, disenchanted shounen villain. He's given up on the idea of grand dreams and mocks anyone who still believes in their own. And you know grand dreams are what Luffy's crew is all about. Pirates in this anime are portrayed in a pretty romanticized light in general, so all his talk about a "new era" being one where pirates treat their lives as something more like a business transaction... forgoing the seemingly impossible life goals and just going after material treasures and glory... is really off-putting.
And though I respect Luffy and Zoro sticking to their own morals and refusing to fight him the first time around... the greatest way they could possibly communicate that someone like him just isn't worth their time... I am really looking forward to seeing Luffy kick the shit out of him now. (I can't believe the 150-episode milestone fell on that cliffhanger! I almost didn't want to stop to write this.)
At the same time... I've kind of surprised myself. I actually want Bellamy to be a persevering character in this story. I hope he learns something from this fight with Luffy. I hope he comes back into the series later with his own dreams rekindled. And maybe just a little more humble...

I Think We're Alone Now...(Spideypool AU)
Tumblr media
AO3
A little something commissioned by @withoneheadlight for Harringrove For Ukraine, thank you for donating!! 🖤 (And making me finally write this)
It really was becoming ridiculous how much Billy thought about him. What he said the last time they met, how he moved so effortlessly like he didn't weigh a thing, how gentle his hands were when touching him just after punching someone in the face, but most importantly his voice. It was all he had that was well and truly him. The real name, the face of Spiderman a mystery and it was beginning to drive Billy insane.
He imagined that he lived in some high-end apartment that overlooked Central Park, living it up and jumping into action the moment he was needed. A much more luxurious life compared to his own. Sure he had enough money to survive quite nicely but after deciding to only kill people who deserved it the bills started to pile up and what was once a nice place to live became a shoebox apartment that looked out to an alleyway. Billy didn't go out into the public much, his suit being his everyday outfit unless he was meeting his one and only friend Robin who knew exactly who he was and what he did.
She didn't even notice the burn scars now, too busy rolling her eyes at whatever weird comment he made that she didn't understand to care. Spiderman, however, was probably handsome. That's what Billy liked to think late at night, or midday... Still, he knew he didn't look anything like him, no secret hiding behind his mask other than his identity. Something Billy tried to figure out many times before feeling guilty and stopping before he got too close. The need to know didn't outweigh the code he lived by, even if it was pretty much the only one he followed.
That was until he found himself on the rooftop overlooking Central Park with a very injured Spiderman and no way of getting him down other than jumping and breaking his own legs to cushion the fall. An option he would go through with but first, he wanted to make sure he wasn't going to bleed out.
"I'm fine," he waved Billy off as he limped over to slump down against an air vent. "Had worse."
"Rude," Billy replied which got him a huff, followed by a wince.
"Just give me a moment."
Billy did want to give him a moment but also he needed to see his wounds to calm his own nerves, his injuries healed already but he would need to spend Sunday stitching up his suit.
He sighed and crouched down before him to get a better look at the slashes across his chest. "You gonna flash me or what?"
"What do you know about first aid?"
"I was human once, Bug Boy."
There was a moment of silence, no way of reading the other's expression. "Fine. Unlatch my neck."
"Is that a spider thing or...?"
"I swear if you don't..."
Billy lifted his hands jokingly before leaning forward to unlatch the top of his zip to let it run down his back so he could pull his arms out and let it sit around his waist, his blood-covered torso in full view. It took Billy a moment to remember he was supposed to be checking his wounds not staring at his chest hair and abs, tight toned and right there.
"Hey," he snapped and clicked his finger in his face. "You not regenerate some brain cells?"
"You're just jealous," he replied and carefully wiped away the blood with his kind of clean handkerchief.
"You say that a lot."
"What?"
"That you used to be human."
"Well, yeah but that's a long story," Billy shrugged trying to concentrate on the job at hand instead of letting his hand shake. "Nothing exciting."
"Will you tell me it some time?" he asked.
Billy looked up and even though he couldn't see it he knew he was being genuine. "Sure."
"I'd say you're a human but with a little extra something," Spiderman laughed softly and for the first time in a long time Billy didn't feel like some sort of monster among men. "You used to do some messed up stuff but you still help people and that makes you a human in my books."
"Thanks," he chuckled lightly. "Apart from the fact I can't die."
Which was another thing that got to him. Billy knew that Spiderman wasn't immortal or at the least eternal like he hoped the person he would fall for would be. None of the actual immortals he knew being an interest, leading to him shutting himself off to avoid the pain. Like some sort of ancient vampire who lost their soulmate in the 17th century and vowed to never love again, a thought he found funny at times but then again there he was obsessed with someone he didn't even know the real name of.
That was until he felt a hand on his cheek and looked to see his hand. Which was slowly tracing his jaw, smooth brushes of his thumb over his mask as he looked up at him. "I always hope you're gonna turn up to big fights like this," he spoke so softly Billy felt his throat dry up and his heart stumble over itself to correct its beat.
But just before he could say anything smart or funny in return he almost choked because he was watching Spiderman pull up his mask to reveal the bottom half of his face which revealed a smile. One that was beyond his most creative dreams. Teeth showing ever so slightly but the warmth that spread through his stomach as he stared at it was something he had not expected at all. Realistically he had wanted to fuck Spiderman but now he wanted to cuddle him...after sex of course but still, he could feel himself falling headfirst right there and then.
They were so soft, so kissable but just as he fooled himself into thinking that was what he wanted he remembered his own face. The pink, scarred mess he hid so well and before he could really think it through he was pulling away.
"Shit," he breathed as Billy stood up to get a grip and find a way to charm his way out of this. "Sorry I completely read the room wrong. I just...I probably hit my head a few too many times or something. Shit yeah. Sorry."
"No," Billy replied looking the other way out at the flashing lights of the police who turned up just as they were leaving after finishing their job for them. "You're right...it's just me."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm not what you think I am," he turned back and kneeled before him once again. "Under this mask is a mess."
"I don't care," he smiled tenderly and all of a sudden he wasn't scared to pull his mask up so that it was sitting on his nose, his smile only growing until he leaned forward with a slight wince to cup his cheek with his free hand. The other on his own side in some sort of instinctual action to diminish his pain.
Billy went for it, leaning in, meeting him in the middle to kiss him. His own hands moved to caress his neck as he took in the taste of sweat and blood, something that turned him on too much for it to be normal but nothing about this was normal or appropriate in the slightest so he forgot about all of that. Forgot about the fact he was an immortal ex-assassin kissing a man who had spiderlike abilities and fell into his touch like it was the first time he had ever felt loved.
Soon enough they had moved closer, not a word or even a full breath exchanged as their bodies became flush against one another. Both of them pulling off their masks without letting go until Billy moved to slide his hand down his back and grab his ass to tease him, causing him to wince from his own jolted reaction to the sudden touch.
Billy pulled away, guilt rushing through him which was rare but when he looked up from the sliced chest of the boy who made him forget just how messed up his life was, he saw the most beautiful eyes he had ever seen. Deep brown, big and looking right into his own as they finally took in each other's faces.
"Wow," Billy breathed as he realised he was well and truly fucked.

Vivianne Miedema Helden Magazine Interview
You recently starred with Lieke Martens in a peanut butter commercial. Is a new career beckoning?
Viv - Laughing: “My acting wasn't very strong. It was way out of my comfort zone. Oh, those things are included. It's nice that boys and girls who are fans of ours see this on TV."
When you walk down the street in London, are you recognized?
Viv- “That's starting to come now, and it's mainly because I've kind of become the face of the English league. We regularly go to London with a few girls from the team. As a group we stand out a bit more anyway, of course we also look sporty. Then people can put a face to the name. But it is not as crazy in England as it is in the Netherlands.”
Do you think your fame limits your freedom?
Viv- “We were the first to shout: 'We want to make women's football big and known.' It comes with a price. I don't really like that attention, it still takes some getting used to after all these years. Last year I was back in Hoogeveen after the lockdown. I hadn't been to my parents' house for a long time. I went out for a night with my brother Lars and had a beer. Two minutes later it was on the internet. I couldn't play games for a holiday and six months because of corona, is it also allowed once… But yes, that's part of it. Fortunately, it is still not that bad in sports, artists are being monitored more closely. I don't have such an interesting life."
You have been playing for Arsenal for four years, are only 24 and already the all-time top scorer in England and of Orange.
Viv- Laughing: "They say you have to stop at your peak, right?"
You're not going to announce your retirement now, are you?
Viv- Laughing: “No, really.”
Are you someone who remembers every goal?
Viv- “I sometimes forget something because of the adrenaline. The list of goals is also getting longer, thankfully. When we were in lockdown last year because of corona and couldn't play football, I did look back on some special matches, such as those of the European Championship won in 2017 and the World Cup in 2019 when we reached the final. It's nice to see your own goals again."
Do you value those lists?
Viv- "It's not that I'm hugely into it, but I like being at the top of a few lists."
You have also been chosen as Player of the Year 2019 and Best Player of the Decade in England and included in FIFA's World Team of the Year 2019.
Viv- “I have some of those cups at home and a few at the club. It's definitely an honor to be named, don't get me wrong, but I play football because I want to win trophies with the team. I think it's more important that I have developed over the past few years and have not only been a scoring striker, but also showed myself as number 10."
Vivianne the mouthpiece
“I have an exemplary role when it comes to certain topics and I am not afraid to give my opinion to help women's football move forward. I've created the platform for that and I think I've earned the respect of being able to voice my opinion too."
Has that also become some kind of mission for you?
Viv - “I am now one of the most famous strikers in the world in women's football, so I also think I should stand up for what is happening in women's football. We are still so behind in men's football. We must fight for equality. It's not just about money, it's also about opportunities."
It was recently announced that the format of the Champions League is changing. There will be a group stage and the prize money has been increased to 24 million. A step in the right direction?
Viv- "Absolutely. The Champions League in women's football is big, but it wasn't what it should be. The club that currently wins the Champions League is even losing money. Hopefully, clubs will now also have something to do with it.”
Before the World Cup in Canada in 2015, you said in an interview in Helden: 'Hopefully parents will one day say: 'My daughter plays football like Vivianne, that seems very special, if that is ever said.' That is only six years old. ago.
Viv- “And that remains bizarre. I was only eighteen at the World Cup. Two years later we became European champions. In my day there was no figurehead in women's football. I looked at Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and Robin van Persie, dreamed that I would stand between them in the field. Now we see girls say: 'I want to play football like Miedema or be like Shanice van de Sanden.' That is a super step. We all contributed to that.”
Every interview you give is about the development of women's football. Do you feel that it is enough about the successes?
Viv- “That development could go a bit faster, you know, then we don't have to talk about it anymore. But we should also consider our achievements. To be so successful with a small country that is relatively new in women's football is special.”
Vivianne the world improver
What does your ideal world look like?
Viv- “That boys and girls grow up in a world in which they are given the same opportunities. Not just in football, but in all of life. That is why I became an ambassador for War Child. There are also many musicians and artist ambassadors. Music brings a lot of joy to the world, but so does sports. Unfortunately I can't travel yet due to corona. Instead, I did a lot online; tried to set up projects with schools in the Netherlands and recorded films for children in distant countries. When life is somewhat back to normal, I also hope to be able to go to war countries and children.”
What do you want to mean for the world?
Viv- “I wish I could change the world, but I don't have that illusion. I have been so lucky in my life, had a great childhood in Hoogeveen. If I can give a little happiness back to children who are having a hard time, it's included. If I can improve a day in the lives of thirty kids by playing football with them so that they can forget for a moment that they are having a hard time, then my goal has already been achieved at that moment. A year and a half ago we were in a township in South Africa with the Orange Women. Every minute we were told by those children how wonderful they were that we were there. Such a day only increases my will to help.”
Where does that feeling of 'wanting to do good' come from?
Viv- “I already had that as a little girl. When I used to watch TV, I was drawn to social topics and my primary school in Hoogeveen worked together on various projects. When actions needed to be set up, I was the first to raise my hand to help. I also made sure that my old football uniforms ended up with poorer children in the Netherlands. I still do.
Every two months we receive five pairs of new football boots. Via Instagram I make sure that my old shoes end up with Dutch boys or girls or they are sent to a good cause via the club. Last year, our entire team's clothing went to children in Jakarta.”
Vivianne the sober Dutchman
You have been playing at Arsenal for four years. Your girlfriend Lisa Evans is Scottish and you study in English. Are you half English now?
Viv- “It's really not that I forget Dutch, that will never happen, but sometimes I make a sentence or I write something down and I think: Viv, what the hell are you doing? In fact, I often hear that I speak English with a Scottish accent. I hang out with the Scottish girls a lot, then you pick that up. I think Scotland is a great country; nature, the way of life and the people.”
And what about your Northern Dutch roots? You played for Heerenveen for three years and grew up in Hoogeveen, in Drenthe.
Viv- “I don't think it's very likely that I'll ever live there again. But the Netherlands has done many things well. So I'm not saying I'll never go back, but I don't think I'll go back to Hoogeveen. I did get the soberness from the Northern Netherlands. I will always keep that.”
You and Lisa have been together for years, and teammates for years. What makes your relationship so good?
Viv- “We played together for two years at Bayern Munich and now four years at Arsenal. We are complete opposites. That seems to work. I'm quite calm and I'm fine with moving in the background. The moment Lisa enters a room, everyone becomes happy and she transfers her happiness to other people. I can enjoy that immensely. She's also crazy. It just clicks between us. Lisa and I have been living together for a while. Some will think: how complicated that you are also on the team together. I don't think so. She makes me better every day. We are the two fastest in the team and I like that I can beat her in sprints every now and then. We develop each other both on and off the field.”
And you don't think: it is sometimes a lot of Lisa around me?
Viv- “Oh, of course you do. Go to the bedroom and keep your mouth shut, I think regularly. But that will also be the case the other way around. I'm actually quite apprehensive that I won't be seeing her for a long time during the Olympics. We are normally together 24 hours a day. But sometimes being away is also part of football.”
Vivianne the thinker
“I'm quite an overthinker in life. I was eighteen when I went to the 2015 World Cup in Canada. There was a ten hour time difference and I could barely make contact with home. I had a really hard time that tournament, I thought everything was terrible. But that tournament made me mature quickly in the football world. First I became big as a football player in the Netherlands, then in Europe and at the moment I am big in the world. I do feel the pressure that comes with that. I always used to think: I don't need a psychologist. But as I got older and started going through things, I realized I can't do it alone and I need help. People I can tell my story to. Football is certainly not always fun. There are definitely moments when I think: what am I doing all this for?
After that first World Cup, I also thought about quitting. If people can't appreciate you, what are you doing it for? I play football for myself, but also to make others happy. Top sport is beautiful, but also mentally very tough.”
Do you find your support mainly in family and friends?
Viv- “The friends I have outside of football are never going to fully understand what I'm going through. The same goes for my parents. My brother Lars also plays football, first at FC Den Bosch and since this year at Vélez C.F. in Spain. He knows what I'm going through, he helps me a lot. But sometimes others don't get it. When I'm at home, I really enjoy talking to my mother about things in life other than football.”
Is the top sport life ever too much for you?
Viv- “Last year's lockdown came at the right time for me. I spent five months with my in-laws in Scotland. I enjoyed not feeling pressure for a while. The first week I thought: what should I do with my life, I have nothing but football. But the second week I enjoyed doing other things; for walking and enjoying nature. And in the third week I felt free. I woke up and could be who I wanted to be, I didn't have to pay attention to anything.”
So that lockdown has been your salvation?
Viv- "Maybe. Before corona, there were nine girls at Arsenal who had to play all games because we had a lot of injuries. There was a lot of pressure on us. I was occasionally in training with tears in my eyes because I had to play football again.”
And how did you feel this season?
Viv- “We football players are in a privileged position, I am well aware of that. We were still allowed to play soccer, while many people couldn't leave their home because of corona. But the mental consequences for girls who could not or cannot go home should not be underestimated either. I have seen my parents once in the past few months, the time before that was in July last year. I didn't go home for Christmas either. Mentally, this has been the toughest season of my football career so far.”
You now hear many stories of athletes who end up in a burnout due to the high pressure and overcrowded schedules.
Viv- “I discussed that with Lisa. During her studies she is now learning about mental problems in sports. Depression is common in athletes. I have the idea that girls are open about mental problems among themselves. But bringing it out also goes a step further. Not that there is a taboo on it, but it immediately leaves a mark on you when you tell your story. Especially in men's football. There, players have to move in a certain box to be accepted. They don't feel the freedom to say: I don't feel okay for a while. I hope that in the coming years it will become normal for athletes to speak out about this and that we can help and support each other in this. When I was still playing for Bayern Munich, I studied psychology at university the first year. I couldn't combine that with football and I stopped, but it's still in my head to do something with that later. I would like to help young girls make the transformation from youth teams to first teams. When I was fourteen, I got into the premier league to play in the women's team who were 32. That wasn't always easy. Hopefully I can help young talents in this area.”
Vivianne De Feyenoord
Feyenoord announced that it will start with a women's team next season. When will we finally see you in that Feyenoord shirt, the club you are such a fan of?
Viv- “It's great that it's possible now. But I'm just a little too young. At Arsenal we have a number of girls who have the club running through their veins. I also think Arsenal is a great club to play for, but I don't feel that intense love. When Feyenoord came out with the news that they will play with a women's team in the Eredivisie next year, I suddenly felt that warm feeling inside. That feeling of club love, of: wow, there will come a day when I can play for this club, the club that I have always been a fan of. Feyenoord needs time to become as good as Ajax, PSV and Twente, but I have every confidence that it will succeed in the coming years. One day I will play for Feyenoord. But for now I can still be found abroad.”
Vivianne the trainer
"I am following the UEFA B training, but I am not allowed to give training now because I am not allowed to get out of my 'Arsenal bubble' because of corona."
You also study Football Business. What are your ambitions after your football career?
Viv- “I have already completed a number of trainer diplomas, a psychology course and I am now studying Football Business. A nice combination that will come in handy later on. In what way I don't know yet, but once I've stopped I'm sure I want to return to the football world after a break."
Is there a national coach in you, a 'Sarina Wiegman plus'?
Viv- Laughing: “We did talk about that. Also with Arjan Veurink, the assistant. Tactically, I assert myself, the staff and the team see that too. Jokes were certainly made: 'Stop searching, we already have Sarina's successor in house.' In women's football there are simply not many top coaches around. And yes, I might want to be one in the future.”
Talking about Sarina Wiegman: she will become England national coach after the Games and Mark Parsons will succeed her. Do you regret having to say goodbye to her?
Viv- “Under Sarina, we became European champions, we played a World Cup final and we are at the Games for the first time. But in the end I think a new impulse, a little refreshment, is good after five years of working together. I think Sarina will do very well as England coach. For her and hopefully for us, it will be a positive development. And of course we will miss her.”
But first to Tokyo.
Viv - “The Games have always been my big dream, even though the World Cup is a bigger tournament for us. Despite the fact that it will now look different than usual, I am very excited.”

There was something different about letting her feet hit the soil under the circumstances she was currently in. Y/N was used to coming out every once and a while with the hunting team, but this. . .this was different. She wasn't about to stay near by and hurry back to the bunker before the hour was up. No, she was free. She could go wherever she wanted. She could go beyond the 'walls' that the hunting team had established.
And there was no better feeling than knowing all of that.
Y/N looked around with a soft smile playing at her features, closing her eyes for a moment to soak in the sunlight before opening them again and letting out a sigh of content. She turned to Joel after that, her smile only growing at the sight of the boy taking in his surroundings.
The girl had almost forgotten that her best friend hadn't stepped foot on the surface in seven years. Joel looked around as if he couldn't believe he was actually outside and Y/N chuckled softly as she watched him inhale deeply through his nose, his face all scrunched up in a way that she could only find adorable.
Joel's eyes shot open at her laughter, playfully glaring at the girl who just smiled before gesturing towards the map in his hands. "Where to, boss?" Y/N asked.
Joel stared at her for a moment, smiling softly at the way her eyes were squinted in his direction, her hand attempting to shadow her eyes from the sun. The boy cleared his throat and looked away, his hands fumbling with the map which he quickly opened.
Y/N walked over to his side, her arm resting against his shoulder while the two both looked at the paper with looks of concentration. "Where are we?" Joel muttered, his eyes flickering over the map confused. "Well, it's not super useful."
"Don't say that. Look right there. It says avoid that area because our lives depend on it. That's useful," Y/N tried to argue. "Besides, it's the best we could do with such little time since someone decided within a span of five minutes he was leaving the bunker for the first time in seven years."
Joel shot her a look and the girl just winked at him. Letting out a small sigh, Joel began to fold up the map before saying, "You've gone on hunting trips before. Which way should we go?"
Y/N was silent for a moment as she looked around, her finger gently tapping against her lips while she surveyed the area. Finally, she looked to Joel, the boy responding with a smile for they were finally going to start on their journey. However, it quickly disappeared as she said, "I have no clue."
"What? Robin," Joel complained.
"Joel," Y/N mimicked while the boy sighed and scratched his head.
"How do you not know? You've been out here plenty of times," Joel pointed out.
"Yeah, but Connor was always the one with the compass," Y/N explained, her voice softening a bit at the mention of her friend before she hardened and looked up at the boy. "And seeing as that compass is in a decapitated monster's stomach, I don't think I'm going to be very useful."
Joel sighed before looking around again, nervously biting his lip as he tried to decide which way was the best to go. "Okay, well, you know what? We know we gotta head west, right? Well, let's just. . .do that," Joel muttered.
"Wow. I never would've thought of that one," Y/N snorted earning a small glare from the boy.
"I could really go for some non-sarcastic advice right about now," Joel told her while the girl chuckled. "Come on, Robin. Which way should we go?"
"I'm telling you, Joel, I have no idea. Just chose a direction and we'll go with that, okay? I'll follow you whenever you go," she assured him, her words making him still for a moment before he let out a shaky breath and looked around.
"Start with something easy," Joel muttered before finally gesturing one way. "West," he declared before beginning to walk that way, Y/N trotting along behind him.
However, they didn't go every far before Joel was turning on his feet, his hands grabbing ahold of Y/N’s shoulders to turn her around and push her back in the other direction. "Nope, it's this way," he said. "West is this way."
Once again, they didn't get far before Joel let out a sigh and came to a stop. Y/N stopped as well and looked to her best friend as he glanced around. "Shit," he muttered making the girl laugh. Joel glanced her way and the sight of her smile mixed with the sound of her laughter was enough to make him chuckle too.
"Shut up," Joel laughed, gently punching the girl's arm while she just smiled his way. His heart skipped a beat at the action and Joel had to look away, his smile not as bright but still gracing his face. "Split the difference," he finally decided as he gestured forward. "We'll go this way. Done. First decision made."
Y/N cracked her neck before hopping into place beside Joel. The boy looked to her in amusement and she just flashed him that smile of hers.
"Let's do this."

Dear Aimee,
I am doing it. I'm really doing it!
Honestly, I thought it'd be way worse too. So far, it's not too bad.
Robin makes it easy. She fills the silence with some stories of past hunting trips she's been on. Not really what I want to hear while walking through the very place that holds all the monsters she's talking about. But it's kind of impossible not to get lost in the way she tells a story. She just gets so excited and there's this sparkle in her eyes that makes you want to listen to her talk forever.
We've seen a lot of signs of death, but no actual death, so cross your fingers.
Trying to stay positive. Weather's nice. Getting some fresh air. Spending time with my best friend.
What else can I tell ya?

"You should've seen the look on Tim's face," Y/N told the boy, her body shaking with laughter as she flashed a smile Joel's way. "But how was I supposed to know that cutting off the monster's head would make bile shoot out of the hole and onto him?"
"Gross," Joel laughed, shaking his head at the girl who just chuckled at the memory. "That's why Tim came back one day and showered for like an hour."
"Yeah. And then everyone got mad at him because he was using so much water," Y/N said earning another round of laughter from the two as they walked through a bus graveyard they had stumbled upon a few minutes prior.
A comfortable silence fell among the two at that point, small smiles still on their faces as they walked through the tall grass and looked around. "Oh," Joel muttered, his arm shooting out and in front of the girl as he slowly backed away from one of the buses. "Watch out. Monster eggs."
Y/N looked at what he was talking about and grimaced before looking around them. "Where do you think the monsters that came out of those eggs went?" she questioned, continuing to glance around while Joel went behind her and began to push her forward.
"I don't really plan on sticking around to find out," Joel admitted, pushing the girl the rest of the way out of the bus graveyard before joining her by her side once again as they approached what seemed to be the remnants of an old neighborhood.
"I wonder what our houses look like now," Y/N muttered, her gaze on the house in front of them that was overrun with vines and other greenery. "You think our things are still there?"
"I'm not sure. Maybe," Joel said, but his gaze was on the ground where he could see something red sticking up off the grass. He bent down to pick the object up, a small smile appearing on his face as he wiped off the grass and realized that the object was a frisbee. "Cool," he muttered causing the girl to look his way. His eyes flickered over the faded lettering as he whispered, "Wham-O."
The words had no sooner left his mouth before the familiar screeching of a monster filled the air. Y/N reacted without hesitation, her hands flying up to grab her katanas which she had by her side within a second.
"No," Joel whispered, the disappointment of already running into a monster after not even a full day on the road almost as strong as his nerves. He subconsciously took a step closer to Y/N who was still holding her katanas up in the air, her eyes narrowed as she surveyed the area.
"We should find somewhere to take cover," Y/N finally said after realizing the monster wasn't as close as she had initially thought.
"Run and hide," Joel remembered, nodding his head slightly. He looked around for a moment before gesturing towards the house. "Hide in the house. Hide in the house."
Y/N stuffed her katanas back into their sheaths before grabbing ahold of Joel's hand. "Come on," she whispered, dragging the boy forward while he quickly stuffed the frisbee into his backpack.
They hurried to the house as quickly and as quietly as possible, only letting go of each other's hand once they reached the door that was wide open. Knowing there wasn't much room to work with the katanas inside, Y/N reached for her crossbow instead. Joel did the same and the two shared a look before slowly creeping inside.
Y/N moved towards the kitchen, her crossbow up as she looked around. Joel was behind her and she didn't pay attention to him until she heard him begin to open something up. Furrowing her eyebrows, she turned around in time to see him opening up a fridge.
A loud screech filled the air and Joel slammed the door shut before backing up as quick as possible, Y/N moving to his side with her crossbow aimed at the fridge. She momentarily glanced towards Joe who gave her a nervous smile before whispering, "I think the food's expired."
Y/N rolled her eyes at that, but her lips tugged up slightly in amusement before she slowly nudged the boy out of the kitchen. Once they were out, the two took off towards the back door and into the backyard.
They both hesitated in the middle of the yard while looking to the house to see if the monster had ended up following them. Luckily, it didn't seem to have left the fridge, so Y/N let out a small sigh of relief and returned her crossbow to the hook on her backpack.
"Pro tip about surviving monsters," Y/N began, glancing towards Joel who looked her way. "Never look in a place they could be hiding."
"But that was a refrigerator," Joel argued, his eyes wide.
"Especially refrigerators," Y/N retorted before turning and beginning to walk away. Joel stood there dumbfounded as she left, trying to process why refrigerators would be such a big hiding spot for monsters.
A bubbling sound seemed to snap the boy out of his thoughts and he furrowed his eyebrows before glancing to his left and at a small pond. He could see small bubbles rising from one area and he let out a shaky breath before whispering, "R-Robin?"
"Yes, Joel?" Y/N asked, turning to look back, but she froze at the sight of Joel staring at the pond where not one, not two, but three eyes had popped out of the water to stare at him.
The two were frozen in place as a monster began to emerge from the water. It looked as if it were the mutation of a frog, it's body similar to the amphibian, just larger, grosser and with more eyes.
"Joel," Y/N whispered, reaching up to grab her crossbow. "Back up."
The boy didn't respond, a look of stunned terror on his face as he slowly reached for his crossbow as well. His eyes were filled with tears as he looked at the monster, his throat constricting at the thought of this already being the end.
"Joel," Y/N insisted, but it was too late. The monster's tongue was already shooting towards the boy, but something flew across the air and knocked him out of the way just in time.
Y/N didn't have time to look at what jumped at Joel and reacted quickly, pulling her crossbow out as fast as she possibly could and firing at the monster without hesitation. The arrow managed to land in one of the monster's eyes and it let out a roar that made both Joel and Y/N’s eyes widen in response.
"I think you made it mad!" Joel yelled causing the girl to look his way for the first time. She faltered slightly at the sight of a dog standing atop his chest.
"Is that. . .a dog?" she questioned, her eyes wide with shock.
"Robin!" Joel exclaimed, his voice bringing her back to reality in time for her to dodge the tongue attack that was now being thrown in her direction. The dog ran towards the monster without hesitation, putting itself between Y/N and the creature as it barked.
Joel was on his feet in an instant and attempted to run towards the girl who was trying to pull herself up onto her feet after having the air knocked from her lungs. However, he didn't get far before he was thrown against the wall by a hit from the monster's tongue. He landed with a loud groan, but quickly sat up as he felt something grab ahold of his leg.
"No! No, no, no. No!" Joel cried out as he recognized the tongue of the monster which had wrapped around his ankle. He felt a small tug and began sliding across the ground, a yell escaping his lips as he began picking up speed. He was just about to reach the fallen tree in the yard when he felt a hand grab ahold of his own. Joel's eyes flew upward and he yelled out, "Y/N!"
Y/N had her jaw clenched in concentration, her hand holding on tightly to Joel's as she propped her feet against the tree trunk in order to keep them in place. They could hear the dog barking in the background, but it sounded muffled over the sound of their beating hearts and their own voices.
"Robin," Joel cried, his eyes filling with tears as he brought his other hand up to desperately latch onto hers.
"I gotcha," Y/N assured him. "You're okay." However, it seemed she spoke too soon because the edge of the trunk broke and Y/N suddenly fell forward, the two now sliding across the ground together but with some resistance since the girl was clawing at the ground.
She managed to hook her hand into a small hole in the ground and glanced back at Joel who was yelling in fear before she attempted to look around. Y/N’s eyes landed on the dog that was still barking at the creature and then she looked at the monster before letting out a sigh.
"Joel, you gotta trust me on this, okay?" Y/N asked, her words making the boy look up at her confused.
"Trust you on what?" he replied, but then she was letting go of his hand and Joel began screaming as he reached for the fallen tree.
Y/N rolled up onto her feet before pulling her katanas out of their sheaths. She ran past Joel who was still sliding across the ground towards the monster and ran at the monster at full speed.
The dog must've realized she was attacking because it ran to Joel and bit into the monster's tongue right as Y/N launched herself into the air and sliced the katanas across the monster's face. The monster roared in pain and anger, it's head thrashing to the side and hitting Y/N with so much force that she went flying towards the fence.
However, during the monster's pain and anger, it had managed to let go of Joel who scrambled to his feet. He ran over to Y/N and was quick to help her up, the girl wincing slightly and shoving her katanas back into their sheaths before shaking off the pain once she noticed the monster attempting to pull its way out of the water.
"We need to go!" Joel exclaimed, his arm wrapping around Y/N before the two ran through the hole in the fence and after the dog. They managed to make it through the hole moments before the monster went crashing through the fence and Joel held onto Y/N tighter as they ran, both of their breathing ragged as they followed the dog to who knows where.
"Wait. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait!" Joel yelled after the dog who continued to pick up his speed. "Where are you going?"
"He's not going to answer you!" Y/N yelled before watching as the dog ran into an old bus. "There!"
Joel followed her gaze and was quick to pull her that direction, his arm still wrapped around her waist all the way there before he shoved her through the door first and hurried in after her.
The dog closed the door right behind them and Joel looked at the dog impressed as he whispered, "Whoa. Whoa, that was so cool."
They could hear the faint sound of the monster growing further away and it was only when it was gone that they finally moved. Letting out a small sigh of relief, Y/N leaned back against Joel who wrapped an arm around her shoulders and let his head rest against her own.
"We're alive," he whispered.
"Barely," Y/N muttered, the two letting out shaky breaths as they attempted to slow their breathing down.
Once they had managed to calm down some, the two let go of each other and looked down at the dog. Furrowing her eyebrows, Y/N took a step forward and looked around. Inside the bus was a makeshift home of sorts, complete with a bed for both a person and the dog, clothes, some belongings, and numerous crafts lining the inside as if someone had spent the last seven years making nothing but decorations.
"Nice place," Joel commented, looking to the dog who was now laying on his bed. "Can we sit?" The dog glanced at him and Joel looked to Y/N who shrugged. The boy watched the dog hesitantly and made a move to sit down. When the animal didn't show any sign of disagreement, Joel fully sat down. "Thanks."
Y/N walked over as well, but she kneeled down in front of the dog who looked to her with big round eyes. "Hey there, buddy," she whispered, carefully holding her hand out. The dog looked to her hand and leaned forward, sniffing her fingers for a second before licking them. Smiling, Y/N reached forward and let her fingers brush through the dog's hair. "Thank you for saving us back there. Where did you come from, huh? You got a master coming back soon?"
"Robin," Joel whispered. The girl hummed in response and looked his way only to find the boy pointing towards some dishes that looked as if they hadn't been cleaned in a really long time. Y/N instantly put two and two together before looking back at the dog who was leaning into her touch as she scratched behind his ears.
"You all alone?" Joel asked, his eyes flickering over the dog before finally looking at Y/N who he couldn't help but smile at as he watched her interact with the animal.
The dog leaned back at Joel's words and Y/N sighed before standing up and sitting down beside Joel on the bed. "Yeah, us too. I mean, we have each other, but. . .you get what I mean," Joel explained while Y/N smiled softly and placed a hand on top of the boy's.
Joel smiled back and flipped his hand over in order to hold her hand and give it a small squeeze. Feeling content with the comfort his best friend provided him, Joel began to look around until his eyes landed on some graffiti on the bus that read 'Boy.'
"Boy?" he questioned, the name instantly making the dog sit up. Joel and Y/N both shared a look before Joel looked back to the dog. "Is that your name? Boy? Your name is Boy." The dog continued to look at him and Y/N smiled softly as she leaned against Joel.
"I'm Y/N," she said. "But this one right here calls me Robin."
"And I'm Joel," the boy spoke up. "But people call me Batman."
"They do not," Y/N snorted making the boy pout.
"No one calls you Robin," Joel tried to argue.
"You call me Robin," Y/N pointed out.
Knowing he was defeated, Joel looked back to Boy before nodding at the dog. "Nice to meet ya," he said. "Like Robin said earlier. . .thanks, uh. . .thanks for saving my life, Boy."
Boy lowered his head and Y/N just watched the dog with a small smile while Joel used his free hand to pick up a red dress that was lying on the makeshift bed. "Is this a dress?" he asked. However, the words had barely left his mouth before Boy was up and pulling the dress from his grasp.
"Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Sorry," Joel said as Boy ripped the dress away and laid back down on his bed with the dress next to him. "Okay, I won't touch it again."
Y/N let her eyes flicker over Boy, frowning slightly as she realized the dress must've belonged to his owner. Thinking the same thing, Joel asked, "Was that your owner's?"
Boy didn't move and Joel glanced towards Y/N. "It's okay," Joel assured the dog. "You don't have to talk about it. Sorry."
"Did you. . .did you think one of us was her?" Y/N asked, thinking back to the way the dog had grown so protective of them. Boy didn't look at them, but he didn't have to. Y/N was pretty sure he had thought one of them was his owner coming back to him.
"I'm gonna lie down too," Joel said, letting go of Y/N’s hand to pull his backpack off. "Is that o—" The dog looked his way and Joel slowed his actions down. "No, it's okay. Just my backpack." Boy laid back down and Joel let out a small sigh as he set the backpack down. However, he paused as he glanced towards Y/N and it registered in his head that there was only one bed.
"I forgot there's only one bed. Here, you take the bed," Joel told her, already beginning to get up. "I'll just lay on the ground."
Y/N rolled her eyes and reached up to grab the boy's wrist. Joel hesitated and looked back at her while she just gave him a small smile. "We've been best friends for years, Joel. Just shut up and lay down with me," she told him. "Don't worry. I won't bite."
Y/N then gave him a small wink and stood up to take off her backpack and katanas, not noticing the way Joel's cheeks reddened slightly. Although, he wasn't completely sure why that was happening either.
With the bed obviously only being made for one person, the two both had to lay on their side. Joel got on first and leaned all the way back against the far side before opening up his arms. Y/N got in next and laid beside him, the boy freezing as she laid down before he put his arm down at his side not daring to hold the girl like he found himself wanting to.
Y/N was glad Joel couldn't see her face for she was sure she had a slight frown on her face at the fact that he hadn't even wanted to hold her. However, her thoughts were pushed aside as she felt the boy gently nudge her before pointing towards the ceiling where they could see a stuffed dog and girl pinned up next to each other.
"You know," Joel said, glancing over at Boy, "I had a girl, too, once. I mean, I have Y/N, but I'm talking about a different girl. Think you would've really liked her. Yeah, you guys would totally get along. She—She loves dogs. I mean, all animals. She's a big animal lover."
Y/N closed her eyes as the boy began to ramble, especially thankful for not having to face the boy as she listened to him talk about Aimee. Usually she was able to ignore what he was saying, but something about being this close to him, close enough that she could feel his warmth and the way his breath fanned against her neck, and having to hear him talk about another girl was more painful than ever before.
"I haven't seen her in seven years," Joel muttered after a moment of silence. "Long time. That's why I'm trying to go find her. I haven't told anyone this, but I'm kinda nervous about it."
Y/N opened her eyes at that, her face softening at the boy's words. It seemed Boy was touched by his words as well because he got up and plopped down right beside their bed, the dress still in his mouth. He closed his eyes and Y/N smiled softly before reaching down and petting the dog one more time.
"Goodnight, Boy," she whispered, Joel repeating her words while the dog let out a small whine before going to sleep.
A silence filled the room after that, but Y/N knew neither of them were able to sleep. She waited for a moment before whispering, "Are you actually nervous to see Aimee?"
Joel let out a soft sigh, his breath fanning the back of her neck before he whispered, "Yeah." He paused for a moment. "It's been seven years. What if she doesn't want to see me?"
Sighing, the girl turned around in the bed until she was facing Joel. Their faces were an inch or two apart and she noticed Joel's eyes widen slightly in surprise, but it quickly disappeared as he looked into her eyes and relaxed a bit.
Y/N’s eyes searched his own as she said, "Aimee would have to be crazy to not want to see you. You're one of the best people out there, Joel, and that was even before ninety five percent of the population was killed."
Joel smiled softly at that and looked down. "I don't know," he whispered, but the girl quickly shook her head before gently reaching out and forcing his chin up so he could look at her.
"You need to stop doubting yourself, Joel. You have such a big heart and are one of the kindest and funniest people I know. You're making one of the most romantic gestures just daring to take this journey to see her. If she doesn't want to see you, then there's something wrong with her. Trust me. All you need to do is stay calm. Everything will work out in the end," she assured him, smiling softly as she caressed his cheek once with her thumb.
Joel couldn't speak as he looked at her, his eyes flickering over her face for a moment as he tried to process all that she had just said. He couldn't help but notice the rapid beating of his heart. Seeing as it was feeling he had never experienced around the girl before, Joel pushed it aside as nothing but fear of a monster attacking while they slept. But still. . .there was something about the feeling that was familiar. He just couldn't put his finger on it.
Y/N was turning around before Joel could think anymore about it, nestling into the pillow as she closed her eyes. "Besides," she muttered, "your ass dragged me out of that bunker and I'm not about to let you have second thoughts or I'll kill you before any of these monsters can."
Joel chuckled softly at that, his whole body relaxing just because of the girl's presence. He stared at the back of her head for a moment, his eyes trailing down her form before he reached out and slowly let his arm wrap around her waist. Y/N responded by leaning backwards and into his chest while the boy pulled her closer to him and let his face nestle into the crook of her neck.
Y/N smiled softly as her eyes fluttered close once again, a sigh escaping her lips as she whispered out, "Goodnight, Joel."
"Goodnight, Robin."
