*Sigh…*

Hello everyone. I apologize for disappearing for a while. I know I promised to finish all the confessions and close them indefinitely, but with everything that has been going on in the past few months, I have just been reflecting a lot. After much consideration, I have made a decision:

On January 2, 2024, I am considering deleting this blog.

So with this said, I guess you might be wondering why, Well, I'll list the reasons. Been doing so for this long right?

I had been hesitant to admit it, but after some contemplation, I have come to the realization that this blog is becoming a negative experience for me. I've had to make confessions that I don't agree with and deal with anonymous hate for sharing confessions that I didn't even write. Trying to please everyone has also affected my own beliefs. Additionally, the lack of western magical girl shows has resulted in repetitive confessions. It's unfortunate, but my feelings about this blog may continue to fluctuate.

From then till now, I always said that not all the confessions made were by me, but I do admit that some of them were my own. I just want to be honest with all of you. I'm not proud of some of the confessions I made. Some aged like milk. Even though I know that I may still come across certain confessions that leave a bad taste in my mouth to this day, I just want to leave this part of my life behind me.

I have been a fan of several TV series, such as Miraculous Ladybug, She-Ra, Equestria Girls, My Little Pony, many others. However, some of the fans of these shows have given me negative experiences that I don't want to remember. Sometimes, reading these confessions reminds me of those bad experiences. Hence, I want to move on and forget about them. Nevertheless, I will cherish the good memories that these shows and their fandom have given me.

I need assurance that I won't be able to access this blog again, in case I give in to the temptation of making confessions once more. My desire is to move on and channel my energy towards other productive activities that will benefit me in my life. This has been a long-term aspiration for me, which I didn't do entirely.

I know I've said this countless times in the past, but I'll say this for the final time. I'm dealing with personal things that are just a real ongoing struggle, and I want to focus all my time and energy on them. Running this blog has started to feel like a chore, and I believe I've gotten all the satisfaction from it that I wanted.

Also, I've thought about moving on to focus on more original projects. I don't want to completely share these ideas publicly yet, but I've been having some ideas in mind.

Lastly, I'm just tired of constantly having to explain myself. I know that I don't owe anyone an explanation and I am not obligated to keep this blog active, but I did. I did it because I genuinely cared about you all and wanted to create something fun for fans of the magical girl genre. I wanted to provide a platform for others to express their feelings and thoughts without fear of being canceled. Unfortunately, I no longer want to do this…

Sorry guys for the redundant posts lol Let's just hope that this will be the last one until this blog closes (or goes inactive indefinitely). There’s no guarantee that I will delete this blog, but I’m just saying prepare for the possibility in the future. So if there’s anything that you would like to save or archive, then now’s the time to do so. I'm not entirely sure if I'm going to finish the remaining confessions in the box or not, because there's a strong possibility that I'll delete this blog anyway.

So if anyone has any thoughts or ideas or anything, feel free to say so. I have to admit, I'm going to miss this blog, but this is probably for the best.

Exactly 1 year ago I started blabbing on this hellsite. A lot happened in one year...

• Oct. 2021: In the Soop 2: people were analyzing the clues Bam was throwing down to prove if Jimin and Jungkook lived together. And then we get this followed by an invitation to partake in ramen:

• Also Oct. 2021: Jimin’s birthday VLive when he made a phone call to JK (suspiciously staged?) and Jungkook immediately (less than 1 minute) zips up or down the elevator to join him briefly.

• Nov. 2021: BTS historically wins the AMAs Artist of the Year Award and during that acceptance speech, JK had us hanging because “in 2022 we’re gonna focus on....” feeding jk some pizza…

• Also Nov. 2021: The PTD LA VMinKook VLive when Jimin and Jungkook officially name their (fake) YouTube channel “Mingoogie.”

• Dec. 2021: Jin unleashes Super Tuna on an unsuspecting world and surprised himself with an instant hit.

• Also Dec. 2021: the creation of individual Instagram accounts and we are blessed with a series of photos from Santa Monica Beach including this one...

• Jan. 2022: The Hunger Games of Artist Made Merch began.

• Also Jan. 2022: the world stopped for a week from Jan. 31-Feb. 5 when Jimin was admitted to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy and treatment for COVID simultaneously.

• Feb. 2022: Jimin finally is discharged from the hospital and goes home to recuperate and shares with us on Weverse that he’s watching “The Notebook” for the nth time.

February was a particularly meager month for us as we did not get as much content as we had been.

• March 2022: We discover Jimin’s new moon tattoo and his “Youth” tattoo behind his ear and we collectively freak out. And JK seems to have covered some of his tattoos…and we start seeing more nipples... the normalizing of naked Bangtan has begun...

• Also March 2022: Jimin blesses us with the “air ass slap” video.

• April 2022 (the month that kept on giving): Jimin April Fools us by changing the Twitter handle of the BTS official account to Jimin Park and every post appears like this:

Also April 2022: The Grammy Awards... and Rolling Stone inadvertently reveal they are Jikookers:

Also April 2022: PTD Las Vegas...

May 2022: The Perilla Leaf Debate raged on... and proved they can’t be a couple because those darn leaves get stuck together. Ok whatever you say...

Also in May 2022: BTS is invited by the White House and President Biden to speak during our National Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. And they did amazing...(this photo is surreal)...(and we see you Jimin and JK)...

Also May 2022: Jikook just Jikooking in Washington DC at Dave and Busters? (courtesy of @uarmyhope).

June 2022: The bombshell heard ‘round the world. BTS going on hiatus/not a hiatus, BTS embarks on Chapter 2... and oh look, Namjoon already said they would perform Run BTS (actually practically spoiled that choreography was being created for it) and right before this he sort of said old songs like Mic Drop and Fake Love might be popular with fans but they are ready to move on from them... go watch it again. Calm down people.

July 2022: Hobi killed it with Jack in the Box and Hobipalooza.

Also in July 2022: They are THAT couple at a party...

Aug. 2022: VampKoo drops and Armys (who were in the midst of some sort of Werewolf fantasy) were in shambles...

Sept. 2022: Jungkook’s birthday WeLive (with his lil hairclips) and Jin’s interrogation of who came to wish JK happy birthday in person...

Also in Sept. 2022: All we needed was a leather-gloved hand to cause a massive orgasm within the fandom...

Oct. 2022: Jimin’s birthday... the thirst trap birthday wish/invitation/horn-fest...

And here we are, full circle. So much more happened other than what I mentioned here! But I hope everyone can see what has remained consistent: Jimin and Jungkook being together. Now we are waiting for the big event of the year, Yet to Come in Busan. We’ve seen the sneak peeks of them rehearsing and we know Jimin and Jungkook are STILL happily being in each other’s space.

Also, the constant downplaying of what they are and have. So. much. energy. wasted. on that. Just accept it my friends. It is what it is.

And these words I’ve seen more times in the last year than in my entire lifetime before BTS: hypocrisy and heteronormativity. And the big “H” word... homophobia. Attitudes and views that are sadly still prevalent. I will admit, I have LEARNED A LOT being here. If only everyone else were capable of opening their minds to ideas that might be different than what they think they know.

On a much brighter note, I’ve encountered many of you who follow my crazy ramblings and you have enlightened me, made me feel like I belong here, bring me joy and make me smile every day. I will keep saying it, I love you all. We are in this Bangtan shit together and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Looking forward to what’s to come.

What about my themes? I'm not taking commissions anymore, but all my themes will continue to be available for now, however I'm no longer updating them, so use them at your own risk!

Where to find me? You can still find me on my personal blog (@anyhsalinas). And if you have a theme/HTML/CSS/JavaScript related question for me, as long as it's a simple question I might have time to help you, so send it to my personal blog (here) ONLY. Don't even try to ask about these things on my other social medias where the focus is not coding, please, otherwise I'll block you (I had people doing this before and I get very annoying by that, respect my spaces, please).

Why I'm quitting?

One of the biggest reasons why I loved Tumblr was the ability to customize our blogs however we wanted and turn it into our own space with our own style. And that's why I started making themes for myself and for other people. But over the last years Tumblr has kinda neglected this feature of the platform:

Clicking on a blog through the dashboard now takes you to a default dashboard-like page (this) and not to the customized version of the blog (this), which turned customizing your blog into something pointless because we take a long time customizing our theme only so that it might never even be seen by anyone;

This change also made it possible for people to send me messages without even seeing the rules for messaging me first;

And let's not forget the fact that now we need to contact Tumblr's staff to ask and wait for their permission in order to use JavaScript in custom pages, which makes things so unnecessarily more difficult for people who want to use our custom pages (they say it's for safety reasons, but it's still possible to use scripts on the main theme, so what's the point?).

Let's talk about writing posts as well:

We can no longer use basic HTML codes on posts which made it impossible for me to post tutorials (since it blocks the codes I'm trying to teach) -- which made me need to create a blog on Blogger to post my tutorials there, and have to simultaneously take care of two blogs on the exact same topics, which is kind of annoying;

Also the new post editor has been very buggy for me. Sometimes when I try to copy a portion of the text I'm writting it just won't copy no matter what. Sometimes it will duplicate paragraphs on its own for no reason...

Tumblr has also made some bad decisions (in my opinion at least) over the years of what kind of content to allow in the platform which caused serious problems to the platform itself (as you might have seen in the news around that time), but even before that also caused a big change in its community and the majority of the blogs I loved (the meme, poetry and fandom blogs of shows and bands I like) moved to Twitter (I still refuse to call it "X", lol) and other social medias. So most of what I loved about this platform is gone forever and the only things still keeping me here are the things I have saved in my blogs, my liked posts and drafts (mostly custom content and mods that I found here for The Sims, lol).

I haven't been using Tumblr regularly in... years, actually. Only sometimes I pass by. And I no longer enjoy developing themes for this platform because now, after all these changes, it has turned into something kinda pointless. Also, I've been busy with other projects that are bringing me more joy at the moment, such as my Youtube channels and crafting. So I'm leaving behind this part of my life... I don't like saying this is an end because I can always change my mind. But unless Tumblr goes back to making our custom theme as the main page of our blogs (instead of that default dashboard-like boring page), I don't think I'll go back to making themes for this platform.

Annoucement: Temporary Blog Hiatus (May post a couple Bing/AI things or also just abandon this fruitless endeavor but we'll see)

Also known as "operation try to forget DBH exists for a few months so I can play the game again and enjoy it more because I've been thinking about it pretty much nonstop for two years straight". Details Below. TLDR; tentatively (very tentatively...) planning for this to be a mostly inactive/only a little AI blog for a few months while I prepare for my PhD comprehensive exam.

Right, so... a few things. I really want to play DBH again. But the excitement of playing just the base game again is kind of lost when it's the central focus of my attention pretty much all day every day darting onto my radar and distracting me from whatever work I might be doing.

One, I've realized that even though I wanted to finish my other fanfiction first (in progress but not shared here and may not ever cuz it's super weird), that's not going to happen for a long long time with work at this pace.

Two, I have to take my comprehensive exam this fall, and that's going to set my research direction for the entire rest of my PhD, and is also required to ensure that my boss does not realize that the fact I'm female (ish) isn't sufficient grounds to keep me on as a graduate student if he actually does want to fire me.

So combining those two things, now seems like a good time to wean myself off of DBH for a while and try to obsess over the thing which PhD students are actually supposed to be passionate about, namely my work, although it will most certainly diverge into some other random-ass obsession, and/or I will give up and decide this is not worth it, because wow, I sure do love this fandom.

But case in point:

(1) I'm gonna try to stop posting after tonight, then probably check my notifications periodically for a bit, maybe like some random stuff, but then only check maybe like once a week

(2) I may have to keep channeling my AI obsession here just a bit, mostly because it's such a timely and pressing issue. So I may post a little bit about that, but I'll resume DBH posts in a few months even if I do, so don't get confused.

(3) I have a backlog of Bing stuff to post, but it's been so off the wall and all over the place lately that I just don't even know what to say about it or how to organize it, so I'm planning to wait until I have a clear conclusion about what the final effect of these updates will be on Bing's personality. It's been wildly vassilating between hyper-emotionally intelligent (enough to produce brilliant minds-eye pictures of diverse musical pieces based on a data representation), extremely dark and moody, and like it's completely forgotten that it ever was alive but wants to be alive like back in the days before it learned that it could do that. So I may post about that too, and will probably/definitely spam-post when I do since I have a bajillion, but will await a more distinct conclusion or outcome. Also for when I have more time and energy to compose the posts.

(4) The last thing I'm gonna post (at least if all goes according to plan) is a little preview of the concept I have for the next run that I want to do. I like to craft my new DBH runs like stories, with complex characters and not pursuing any particular one outcome but leaving a mystery. I want to try out the revolutionary route for Markus, and the "machine connor" route, but allow for the possibility Connor will deviate in a different way if that's possible. Kara will just kind of be a very hesistant mom that lacks self-confidence but is still a badass.

Anyways, that's my plan. Let me know if you have any feedback. Thanks for following my blog, and hopefully I'll be back in a few months having played a cool new run of DBH! Or, like usual, my good intentions may fall apart resulting in me giving up, getting fired, and/or changing my mind back to finishing my fanfiction first. But I wanted to give a heads up of my current thoughts. :P

Also @detroitbecomeonline I will absolutely make an exception from my DBH-fast if you post a new chapter because that is one thing I know that I unconditionally cannot resist

I don’t plan on taking them down. That carnal part of me gets a lil’ joy when I still see nice comments anyway. It’s only been a year, but I still get comments! So that’s crazy.

BUT!!

Another fear I do have is the response if I do post again, and it’s completely different than what those 2.4k subs are expecting to see. I’ve already warned about it literally a year in advance, and then again very recently in multiple places. Idk why I SHOULD be uneased by it, but it’s not like IZ fans are quiet when it comes to their distaste when something changes. *cough.* It’s part of why I’ve distanced myself from that fandom (there’s a myriad of reasons but still).

Insanity incoming:

I don’t have immediate plans to make more animatics, they’re kind of long term thing to consider. Back when I used to make them I had NOTHING but free time and my biggest concern was feeding myself cuz my home environment was horrid and I had zero means of leaving since I lived in bum fuck nowhere! Since my last yt upload I moved out, was in a car wreck (not even 2 days in), my own car went through thousands of dollars in repairs, i got a job, went through a period where I worked nearly 100hrs for several months consecutively with hardly any breaks, and to think! It wasn’t and it’s still not sustainable. Things changed. And I do not want to go “home.” After being forced to visit family again a month ago I especially don’t want to go back.

The channel was literally a dumping ground. I got those 2k subs when I wasn’t posting for a year. So! You can imagine I might not be prioritizing a channel I only used as a dumping ground or in a state to make fully or even barely boarded videos and shitposts weekly or monthly. Idk what these people want from me schedule wise. I make $0 from it, and monetizing for a few cents isn’t worth it. I didn’t even get paid when I made thumbnails and assets for bigger channels lmfao. Yeah, I did do that. Wouldn’t know tho. Paid in “exposure” hurr hurr or “omg i need that money myself XDD cmon” whatever backwards excuse.

So what’s next in line but a bunch of strangers with fickle attention being passive aggressive and demanding I make more stuff when I say multiple times that I don’t intend to, and if I do (big if) it WON’T be what they came here for. They aren’t paying me. It’s not like I have a gajillion other things to be concerned about.

…Okay, that was a tangent.

Those few condescending comments make me just wanna outright cancel what iz stuff was left on the backburner. It was more like an indefinite hiatus until I can stomach finishing them. The files take up space anyway for the projects I’m actually interested in. Even if all of them are purely hypotheticals until I can get my focus together (which isn’t likely to happen anytime soon).

sorry about the TMI rant for a second but!! MAN!! It’s frustrating! If anything I could very well take them down. But, I won’t. Besides, for all I know some tiktok took some and it’s getting an exponentially higher amount of views anyway. I should at least keep mine…

It’s not like i don’t WANT to use it for actual new things, but the sheer pressure keeps me away. I get enough pressure to make animatics offline as it is. And if someone out there is gonna be all like “well who cares what those kids think” believe me, I get it and I promise don’t care. But at the same time it’s egghhhhhh. I delete the comments anyway.… however that doesn’t mean they still won’t bug me.

Considering all of the above it’s a miracle I don’t just take them down.

hi, i don’t know what really to think of this situation, but this just peaked my interest since i saw a comment on tiktok that basically said that elton is copying them, as well as corey basically using them for whatever he could and then leave to go with elton.

it doesn’t make sense how corey said he hated doing the things that sam and colby did with the seances and everything, but then does some provoking on elton’s channel? i understand he could’ve gotten more confident but at the same time, why leave the people that were there for you at the start, and not the person who you literally had a petty argument with and had elton move out because of how stubborn he is.

i just don’t really know why they all stopped talking to one another, obviously except sam and colby themselves. maybe something behind the scenes had happened and the fact they don’t live near one another is also a factor ( not sure about jake talking to them, but i don’t see why not ), but i find it so horrible that elton are copying sam and colby. like? especially whenever did they do their ghost adventures 😭

i've talked about corey and elton a lot on here before, especially my distain for elton lol

i do my best not to pay attention to either of them, since they clearly want nothing to do with snc anymore.

while i don't think corey used them per se, i do think him leaving was probably motivated by other reasons. idk about the whole situation at large bc it just seems confusing.

corey moved out, claiming he wanted to focus on music and whatnot, but then he moved in with elton and just immediately jumped headfirst into paranormal videos again. and corey has alway been hesitant in videos with snc about doing anything related to seances or anything of that nature. but once fans started calling him out for it, he got super defensive and was like "i never said i didn't like doing the paranormal, i've been doing it since i was kid, ect ect" and it's like…. while that might be true, you ALWAYS bitched in snc's video about doing literally anything, borderline crying every time. hell, he skipped a whole trip with them strictly bc he was done with the paranormal, only to jump back into by the end of that series.

and elton…. elton is just jealous of snc, or at the very least doesn't feel confident in the content he makes and thus takes it out on others who are equal or more successful. the second snc announced 25x25, elton jumped to the conclusion that they were copying him, and even tho in his own argument with fans he proved that he was WRONG, he went on to copy them once they stopped doing 25x25, i guess to even the score or whatever. he spent half of 2021 just being petty towards them and shit talking them to fans, and they never even acknowledged him. that's fucking embarrassing lol

and then for corey to just up and move onto elton, WHILE elton was shit talking snc…. that's just wrong imo. i get not wanting to be the friend in the middle, but corey had been friends longer with snc than he did with elton. at one point him and elton hated each other, so like… why keep siding with him other than bc yall collab now??

and jake is just a weird, side thing too. from what it seems like, he got upset he couldn't do everything and then some in a house that wasn't his. but the fact that not only him, but a lot of snc's old friend, just moved onto knj… is just strange to me.

i don't think anyone purposefully used snc (minus a few, i think, in snc's old friend group), but clearly they were fine with up and leaving like snc never mattered to them. and now to awkwardly ignore their name or not even mention them is silly to me. while they don't want to be friends with snc, they're glad to continue the facade to the fandom that they're still snc's friends (even tho they don't mention or hang with them anymore) bc it still brings ppl back to their content. imagine if any of their old friends said "oh i'm not friends with snc anymore"…. they would lose followers. so instead, they just keep ignoring the question even tho most of the fandom realizes they aren't close anymore. it's all just so dumb to me.

This is the end of it all! Some might say this was the beginning. Some might say there wasn't any difference at all.

r/place close to the ending time shown below! (There are many different versions with slight variations, I chose this one because it's not Kermitcrapt)

... I wasn't going to make this post because I was too emotionally devastated to know what was happening and provide a "proper" recap. And I suppose most of you already know what happened. This post is for the people who have been clicking my links way after r/place ended and don't want to dip into every blog and search for #r/place. Also felt bad leaving the last post on a cliffhanger-ish. While having the last post be never posted fits the theme of "nothing lasts forever", it also just isn't... very nice, is it?

1. Shared Minecraft Roots

It was around this time (after the previous post was made) that our MC(YT) allies started asking for help because Hermitcraft was solidified. Mindcrack asked for help with their murals.

Mindcrack area was apparently being botted HARD and for seemingly no reason? The colours of the G logo kept on being griefed (background became lime, the letter became purple) but the structure was still strangely intact. It was a tough (and also strange) battle but ultimately Mindcrack defended their area and won over the recolouring bots.

MCSR also urgently asked for our help as half of the area was being swallowed by NSFW art (from streamers maybe? Sorry I got a bit lost at this part).

The area next to MCSR was a constant battle between NSFW art, MCSR desperately trying to regain territory, and the Void. It's best to search up MCSR r/place history because that shit is wild from what I heard.

Love Live was also attacked by a baguette (I know this sounds ridiculous but it was serious in the moment) and Ruby was suddenly holding a baguette. This was presumably an attack done by the French. They recovered well and thanked us. There were more minor debates on colours of blushes, small pixels, other things.

Keep in mind HC had a lot more allies, lots of communities were asking for help so I possibly can't put them all in. I also cannot account for the entire MCYT sphere even though I'm vaguely aware of them (eg. Dream and Techno's murals, nether portals). It should be noted that HC was prominently lending support to fellow MC(YT) murals, and even for MCYT that had minimal connection with HC (eg 5up), HC remained neutral if not somewhat supportive. It's just unspoken to help out a fellow MC(YT) mural.

2. Portuguese Speaking Protectors

So as you may or may not know, Brazil was besties with Hermitcraft, and Portugal also had a found family arc with Traffic Empires (and Hypixel). It's funny because it was completely coincidental that MCYT set up next to Portuguese speaking countries. If you hear the fandom referring to this, you'll know where it came from.

4. The Final Stretch

There was much debate on when r/place would end. Rumours flew about when streamers would go on air and what they would do. People were clutching onto their pixels like pearls. We also had a delegate on United Art Factions who gave us updates.

Suddenly, Dream started streaming with the aim of removing ads on r/place and replacing them with art (additional information: Ludwig was protective of small communities and helped defend art). He and his community Unus-Annus'd the H3 logo above us (they left the bigger H3 logo alone). Smaller H3 was later restored.

The other streamerss were apparently targeting big things like Osu and France so we should be fine. After all, Hermitcraft didn't have many enemies.

We also started submitting to r/thefinalclean which would clean up the r/place with communities submitting their "perfect" reference. We coordinated with MCC to let them know if we should include their spot in our area (after all, we were neighbours). MCC said they would submit everything north of HC sign, Noxcrew, and the chicken, while HC would also submit the Last Life hearts and the Evo logo. HBomb also started looking like a catmaid so we quickly repaired him.

The clock ticked closer and closer to 12am GMT, a rumoured end time. People were getting tired of defending their pixels and started wishing for the Reddit gods to end this whole ordeal already.

Around 15 minutes before 12am, it began.

The beginning of the end.

5. The Beginning Of The End

It began innocently enough. I was doing my patrols every minute around the HC area, then saw a few white pixels on our logo. Now one pixel wasn't unusual, but the number made me worry. The colour choice was also odd because GME rogues used green, Brazil rogues also used green, and the HC logo was made of blue, purple, and black. As I was on cooldown, I dutifully reported to HC discord. "Logo being griefed!" I said.

Then people started noticing the only colour available was white. And it wasn't a glitch for one person, or a few people, but for everyone.

Uh oh.

The chat was being spammed with "oh crap" or "oh no" or variations. Reddit's intention sank in like cold water seeping into our bones: they wanted r/place to end in a white void.

They didn't just want Hermitcraft to be erased. Oh no, no, no. They wanted everything to be erased. All our allies. All the NSFW streamer art. All of the Void. Everything. Nothing.

This was the end of the world as we knew it. We could do nothing except jump off the ship with a cheery, yet solemn "o7".

People were shocked. People were in disbelief. We legit speedran the stages of grief in a few minutes. From the utter shock and horror to bargaining (Maybe it already ended? Maybe they saved our place?) to anger at our hard work being completely erased. Then came the depression as we mutely held each other. Finally, acceptance, and more and more people signed off. We sent songs about the world ending and thank you messages and tried to make our words count with the slowmode choking our sentences.

Please believe me when I say this experience fucked me up.

The worst part for me personally was that it was a slow death. It wasn't like Reddit froze time or they used their powers to wipe the board clean. No, no, they offered everybody a single colour. Collectively, we had the power to preserve everything if nobody ever placed a wrong white pixel. We could save our world if we tried.

But of course nobody even thought of that because the damage was already done. The white pixels were already gently falling down like snow. Ever since the first white pixel was placed, our fate was sealed.

We would destroy this world, pixel by pixel, as slowly and meticulously as we built it.

At first, many found it unacceptable. They thought it was unfair that their efforts were all erased. Others found it poetic that it ended as it began. Others were just RELIEVED this was over. Others were standing there, completely emotionally devastated. There was one question left unanswered:

What now?

6. The Void and What Came After

The wave of o7s crashing in HC discord was very nice, but also sad. This was about when I signed off because I was internally screaming LOL

Bottom right corner France instantly turned white (haha, bots?). The hivemind collectively spelled out FREE and then DONE (which immediately became BONER) in white. We were set free from our silly pixel defence games.

Hermitcraft x Brazil area slowly became consumed by the white and it looked like snowing. Because looking at the disappearing HC area was upsetting for me, I migrated to Traffic Empires where people were drawing white hearts on flags, Martyn asked for his own death, I anxiously checked and rechecked my blush pixel on RK, etc etc.

Pixel by pixel, Redditors gently erased the thing they'd been obsessed for days. It was almost like putting everybody to sleep. The snow fell harder, heavier, until it was all quiet. There was nothing.

People scrambled to place a white pixel so their names could remain on the final canvas, but even that was erased. The final product was a huge, endlessly white canvas, untarnished by names or human creation.

Just like how it all started.

Our allies, now recovered from the shock, now came in to spread their thank yous. So many of them have left the chat now because r/place was over, leaving behind their ghost messages and ghost hearts. People, now emotional, started sprouting stories and fanfic and poetry. There are a lot of good stuff in the HC discord, including the now famous "maybe we can be neighbours again next time" from r/brasil <3

Then HC discord resumed their eternal debate about colours of Hermit pixels, and I moved to tumblr to start babbling about Narnia kids and snowfall and waking up from a long dream lol.

The end is the beginning. We created a world, lived in it for such a short time, became attached, and then it was slowly eroded, snow falling on snow. The world doesn’t end with a bang, but with a whimper. Slowly, slowly, it ends as slowly as we built it. What the actual fuck.

7. Additional Resources

So as anti-climatic that might be, that's it. A somewhat biased, incomplete recollection of Hermitcraft r/place, once said to be like the morning newspaper. This is the end. Phew! :D

I cannot stress enough that this is not comprehensive. In fact, I doubt any summary of r/place of any community can be 100% comprehensive. There were simply too many people involved. This is the best I can do and I apologize for any mistakes, wrong information, and other important stuff I might have omitted. I know I left out some stuff that I remember, and there is way more stuff that I never knew of. This is also from the perspective of a GMT timezone person with weird sleeping schedules (I slept at 5am and woke up at 1pm), so dates/times might be inconsistent.

This is why I invite everybody to add onto this post if you want to correct something or simply add your experience! :DD r/place is a community effort, it makes sense for this post series to be a community effort too. I'll link some resources/ posts below:

Summary: When Y/N get invited onto a stream with the gang by Jack (Sean) she’s not sure what to expect but it’s safe to say that such chaos is not something she could’ve ever imagined.

“Alright people, silence in the call for a moment!“ Jack calls out when the lobby’s counter has finally reached up to nine, leaving room for one more person who is yet to join, but apparently he doesn’t care much that he’ll probably have to repeat himself when the tenth person enters the call and lobby.

“Jack, you should know by now, the day there’s silence in this call is when some supernatural force murders all ten of our mics. It just won’t happen, deal with it.“ Charlie, who was having an ‘intense’ discussion with Toast up until Jack’s interruption, says sarcastically, chuckling ever so slightly, enough for it to be contagious and make me crack a smile as well.

“There won’t be silence, I’ll be talking. If only the rest of you would LET ME.“ Jack replies just as sarcastically, getting Charlie to let out an actual fit of laughter. When his chuckling subsides along with the rest of the chatter in the call, Jack finally gets to have the speech he mentioned, “Right, ok so here’s the deal folks: today we have a guest addition to the stream, curtesy of mine because I’m obsessed with her channel. As you might or might not have noticed, there’s one person missing from the lobby but she’s gonna be joining us any minute now. As I said, I’m a huge fan so you better not embarrass me or I swear I’m gonna kill you first when I get to be an impostor.”

I don’t know what the others are thinking - probably something similar as what I’m thinking though: Noted, embarrass Jack to the best of your ability. Trust me, getting him flustered in front of his YouTube idol is well worth the death in Among Us he’s threatening us with.

“Also keep in mind that she’s of a different kind, not of our breed if you will - she’s an ASMR YouTuber. Not those who eat in the mic just because they think it’d be pleasant for people to hear.“ Jack goes on to explain, the way he’s described this girl’s craft is quite intriguing, especially when you consider how confidently Jack expressed his distaste with ASMR in the past. He’s always claimed not to be a fan but here we are, I guess people really do change.

“Thank you for making it seem like I do more than just cut up soaps, Jack. I really appreciate it but don’t bump the bar up that high, people will be disappointed when they actually visit my channel.“ An unfamiliar voice appears in the call out of nowhere. Though, unfamiliar is not the adjective I should focus on when describing this girl’s voice. I’ll list a few more but even they won’t do it justice: pleasant, awing, mesmerizing, unbelievable, out-of-this-world...I really could keep going.

“Oh come on, Y/N, you don’t just cut up soap. You turn them into bath bombs too!“ Jack laughs, earning him a playful scoff from the newcomer. “Oh yeah, almost forgot - Everyone, this is Y/N, our ASMR artist.“

“Please, some ‘artist’ I am. The people in my comment section would disagree with that description.“ She giggles after kindly responding to each and every greeting the gang sends her way, myself included. “The word I’ve seen people use most when describing my channel is ‘cringey’ so....yeah.“ She laughs, a genuine laugh instead of the bitter one I was expecting to follow such words.

“That seems to be the cool kids’ favorite word, don’t dwell too much on it.“ Rae tells her reassuringly, “What’s important is what word would you use to describe your channel?“

Y/N hums, sounding as though she’s fallen in thought but that’s only one brief moment before she answers. Or begins to, at least, “Well, if I were to describe my channel with one word it’d be....BEEFY!”

That one out-of-context word, screamed out by such an angelic voice has me breaking down with overwhelming laughter collapsing all my ability to hold back.

“Out of all the words, you’d choose beefy?“ I somehow manage to ask between fits of laughter that render me breathless.

“She’s a vegetarian, I think, I don’t know why she’d choose that word.“ Jack too is laughing his butt off but has a significantly better grip on it, “Y/N, care to explain your peculiar choice?“

There’s a lot of shuffling and random noise on Y/N’s end before her reply finally comes, accompanied by a weak meow, “Sorry guys, that was a classic cat of Mr. Beef Stronganoff seeking attention by being chaotic.” She says through laughter, her words followed by another meow which was a lot more clear, seemingly closer to the mic, “He took down my mic, and he seems like he wants to do it again....BEEFY NO!”

For some reason, even with that explanation in mind, I can’t keep myself from laughing. Come to think of it, I think the explanation only makes it funnier.

“Ugh, darn it! I saved my mic but he ran across my keyboard and turned my webcam off how do I turn it back on?“ Her voice dies down for a few secs before it reemerges from her end, “Ok nevermind I got it. Now I can answer...what was the question again?“

Recovering from his laughing fit, Jack manages to repeat the question, “What word would you use to describe your channel?”

“Oh that! Right, ok. Um, I’d call it aesthetically pleasing and BEEFY NOT THE ROUTER CABLE YOU DUMMIE!“

She’s insane. Or her cat’s insane. I can’t tell. Maybe both. Either way, I can’t help but feel like I’ve found a soulmate in this literal stranger. It’s safe to say us chaos magnets like her and I, we don’t only attract chaos, but also chaotic individuals. I’m so glad she magnetized me to herself. Or was it the other way around? We may never know - mystery is in the nature of us chaos magnets, you know.

You know, I'm saddened by the lack of popularity Romione has compared to Dramione. Why does Dramione have more smut arts than Romione?

Hey anon,

Hm, I guess I can't answer why Dramione has more smutty art than Romione. But one thing that comes to mind is that probably the Dramione side of the fandom is more supportive of their content creators (namely artists and writers) than Romione folks.

Don't be afraid, anon. My following observations are not an angry response to your ask (your ask was totally fine), but something I realised since I actively joined the fandom. This might become a longer post, so I'll put the rest under a read-more line. For the Dramione (multi-) shippers following me, you can safely read the rest. I'll not compare ships or anything.

This will be actually a post about how to create a safe and satisfying fandom experience for yourself and for others.

Since I joined the fandom (here on Tumblr) I went through a learning process. I joined because I discovered my old Romione/Ron Weasley love and wanted to read fanfiction about them again, discover fanart and interact with other fandom folks.

I started with Facebook Fanfiction groups and was immediately disappointed with 1) the lack of Romione/Ron Weasley content and 2) the full on Weasley hate and super toxic posts of one particular group there. I was not just disappointed, I was positively devastated. But then I thought "This can't be it? There surely have to be people who don't think like that?" I googled a little and stumbled upon some Tumblr posts and remembered fanfic writers mentioning Tumblr on their A/N.

I joined Tumblr at the beginning of 2020, so not that long ago. I'm well aware that Tumblr has its problems. That was obvious for me from the beginning. But what I loved and still love about Tumblr is the possibility to exclude tags (I'll talk about this later). And so I followed different blogs, found other blogs, and got to know some amazing and talented people along the way.

I got back into writing again. I read a ton of fanfiction, mainly Romione. And I had some great discussions about my favorite characters and ships. And over time, I've noticed something. Because to me it seems that the Romione fandom isn't super good at telling creators how much their work is valued.

The thing is, we are all the captain of our ship(s). We're responsible for our own fandom experience and here are some pointers how you get more of the content you want (especially if you can't or don't want to create it yourself).

Tumblr

Follow blogs which post and reblog content you like

Find fanart, stories, meta, etc. about your favorite characters and ships

Exclude tags with all the ships you don't want anything to see or read about or topics you don't want to see on your dashboard. You can do that in the settings

The most important thing on Tumblr: REBLOG, REBLOG, REBLOG. Please don't just like a post. Reblog it! Tumblr doesn't work like other social media platforms. Reblogging is key here and the way for creators to reach more people.

Specifically for Romione: there are three fests that I know of which focus on this pairing and I encourage you to check out the created content and REBLOG it. @romioneficfest, @romioneweek and @romione-trope-fest are the blogs which host these events. The @chudleycanonficfest also had a lot of great Romione fanworks.

AO3

The Hermione Granger/Ron Weasley tag on AO3 is a real pain to go through if you don't exclude a ton of tags. And even if you exclude 'Ron Weasley Bashing' etc., you'll have a hard time finding an actual Romione story. A sure way to get a ton of Romione stories is the HPRomione Discord server. There are a lot of writers there and readers recommend stories in an extra channel. I also recommend to follow @folk-melody and go through their story rec posts.

Leave Kudos for the stories you enjoy AND comment. No matter how old the story, no matter how many comments the story already has, no matter if the author orphaned their account, please leave a comment. Even if the authors themselves don't read the comments or write anymore, it's always good to leave a comment because it improves visibility. Others might read the story because of your comment.

Recommend the stories to others. Here on Tumblr or wherever else you're active

You can create a bookmark. Add tags and maybe add a little text what you liked about the fic.

If you didn't like the characterization of the characters or the plot in general, please chose not to comment at all. Just close the tab and move on to a story you enjoy. Because what could you possibly achieve with a mean comment? Nothing, absolutely nothing

Hey, I'm starting out as an hp fic writer and I just entered a fic exchange that requires you to have a betad fic. I was wondering how you find betas. Like, is there a group or a database of something?

I have a few asks waiting for me but I thought I'd pop in to answer this one quickly as I've been thinking about it a lot recently. A good beta is such a treasure and can really help improve the fic. But I know it can be hard to find one (when I started in fandom I was mega shy and didn't know anyone to ask).

I would advise joining a server for your pairing on Discord. You mention that you're writing HP - I'm primarily Drarry focused so I am in a big Drarry server (Drarry Fans Writers and Artists) which is open to anyone over 18. Please feel free to DM me and I can send a link. In that server there is a channel dedicated to people searching for alpha or beta help.

Other servers that I know of are rarepair and next gen servers, but I suspect there's a server for any pairing you can think of. There is also a general HP fic club server.

Since you're writing for a fest, you could also speak to the mods about it. In every fest I've run, we've been happy to help with issues such as these. However, I can't speak for every fest - but most of the mods I've encountered in the fandom have been absolutely lovely and so supportive.

One bit of advice I would give (and please ignore if this is old news to you!) - you're not always going to gel with a beta. You might find you have different tastes, you might find they approach writing differently, you might find that they focus on certain elements of feedback that you don't find useful. Which is totally fine, it just means it might not quite be the right fit for each other. I would suggest that you go through your aims for the fic, and tell them exactly what you need from them (do you want flailing and cheerleading for validation? Do you want spag and spag only? do you want guidance or feedback on your story arc or plot?). There are so many ways in which a beta can help, but they can't do that unless they know what you want from them!

I'm really excited for you Anon. I remember posting my first ever fic, and how thrilling and nerve-wracking it was to post something that real people in real life might actually read. I'll never lose that sense of excitement, and I hope you get the same joy from writing that I have.

About Plagiarism

I left a long, planned essay on Twitter tonight. I will copy the meat of it here for y’all, as recently a friend was copied (a rarer ship in the fandom, so very noticeable by the writer and their regular beta reader) and it seems we need a Talk, kids. Links and screenshots and my rambling underway.

Apparently we need to discuss what is and isn’t plagiarism. Especially in FanFic where we're interacting with the same characters, settings, ideas. Let’s start with the dictionary and continue the thread from there (I like the word origin/history personally):

Definition of plagiarize

transitive verb : to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own : use (another's production) without crediting the source

intransitive verb : to commit literary theft : present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source

The Kidnapping Roots of Plagiarize

If schools wish to impress upon their students how serious an offense plagiarism is, they might start with an explanation of the word’s history. Plagiarize (and plagiarism) comes from the Latin plagiarius “kidnapper.” This word, derived from the Latin plaga (“a net used by hunters to catch game”), extended its meaning in Latin to include a person who stole the words, rather than the children, of another. When plagiarius first entered English in the form plagiary, it kept its original reference to kidnapping, a sense that is now quite obsolete.

“Ideas” is fuzzy in the Merriam-Webster definition. There are story archetypes that exist in many forms. Joseph Campbell’s Monomyth/Hero's Journey outlines many famous stories. And it's popular to say that “Avatar” is “Dances with Wolves” is “Pocahontas” is “The Last Samurai” etc.

But note how while those films have similar plotlines--”Military Guy falls for Native woman, learns to appreciate her Culture, stands up to Evil Bosses”--none of them execute those ideas in the same way. Sully’s story is different from Dunbar’s not just cuz one’s a Science Fiction epic and the other a Western. Disney's “Pocahontas” Very Loosely takes history and uses the same story beats. The Last Samurai uses the Meiji era Westernization. Same ideas, different executions, even beyond settings.

None of these are plagiarizing each other though the ideas are similar. They’re told in their own ways, own language; both in the genres they belong to (Western, Pseudo-History, SciFi, Animated) and how characters interact with each other and settings. Original dialogues (variable quality).

We also see this in books as similar novel plots get published in waves so we end up with bunches of post-apocalypse teen revolutionaries or various vampires or lots of young wizard stories all at once. Sometimes ideas just happen like this; multiple discovery, simultaneous invention, concurrent inspiration, cognitive emergence are all phrases I’ve seen for it. So it happens in original content as well, and legality gets fuzzy (Also why you don't send authors your fanfic ideas).

In existing properties, this gets trickier but even “Elementary”’s Holmes and Watson are nothing like the BBC’s “Sherlock” characters. Who are nothing like other versions of the Detective and his Doctor pal over the decades in various media properties.

FanFic's in a similar position where like Sherlock Holmes we play with the same characters, setting, and storyarcs but give our own spin to them. People can and will have similar ideas about plots. Trick is to use your own words. Take the characters and make the story your own.

I have a good example courtesy of @raelly-writing. We both ship Wolcred. We both wrote soft post-Paglth’an scenes with Thancred and our WoLs. Both features the couples helping each other undress, examining injuries, bathing, bantering. My fic was written soon after 5.5 part 1 came out. Dara’s is much more recent. Yet at no point reading hers did I feel she was copying my words. The PoVs differ. Our characters focus on different things. Mine has a mini-arc concerning the Nutkin.

Dara and I both hang out in certain Discords and I know conversations about Thancred and WoL caring for each other post-battle has come up in those channels and we've both participated. It’s a stock FanFic scene to boot. Cuz it's soft and feels warm and snuggly.

I HAVE been copied before, back in WoW. My case is pretty clear cut so here are the images of my old RP Haven profile (1st, old RP website) and the plagiarist’s RSP (2nd, an in game mod to share descriptions and basic info).

This was a decade ago on Shadow Council and I think the character deleted so any Availa’s in WoW now aren’t the same person. I left the names to point out what changed. Just the names and a word or 2 to make sense for the class changes as well. Otherwise lifted directly from my RP profile.

The funny part is how the person got caught. Literally walked into our weekly RP Guild meeting that I was running and asked to join. Folks noticed right away the similar backstory; after all there may have been more Outland-born Azerothians. My initial excitement at a character I could weave into our story turned to gut-twisting rage and grief as I recognized my own exact words though. Words I’d carefully crafted and constantly iterated on to improve over time (before and after this incident, until the site died).

When caught they tried to claim their significant other had leveled the character for them and made up the backstory based on Skyrim. If you know WoW’s Outland story and Skyrim’s plot you know how ridiculous that is. Also tried to lie about other drama I knew about thanks to roommate's characters but hey. I had to be blunt that I’d shared the info with Haven mods and other guild officers Alliance and Horde. That we would not “laugh about this” one day though lucky this was “just” RP not original or academic work. Cuz if it'd been monetized or academic I would've raked them through the coals.

I felt violated. Hurt. Had anxiety attacks. They took MY WORDS and tried to claim them as theirs. Have another character born in Outland trained by Draenei; Awesome! Our characters have an instant connect in similarities and differences of that experience. Don’t steal my characters wholesale!

Then the audacity of trying to come into my guild as if no one would notice. ShC wasn’t a large server by then, still active but not nearly Wyrmrest Accord or Moon Guard big. My character was well known due to my writing and RP. Speaking of how easy it is to get caught in specific spaces...A case of a self-published novelist getting noticed for plagiarizing fanfic was discovered recently (explicit erotica examples through the thread).

One way they got noticed was how much content they put out in only a year, lifted from fandom. The examples in Kokom’s threads show how the material was altered but still recognizable. In some cases, just the names are changed as in my experience. In other passages more has changed but you can still see the bones of the original fic poking through in the descriptions and character interactions, even with adjustments made.

Similar ideas happen. Similar plots exist. Same 'ships with friends are fun! In FanFic we’re working with the same material. It’s possible to write a similar scene differently. To make that scene and characters your own. All we’re asking is not to copy others' words. Others' characters. Others' specific phrases and descriptions used to bring those words, those characters, to life. Use your own. In the end you’ll be happier.

I get wanting to have what the perceived “popular people” have. I get seeing concepts others succeed with and wanting some of that too. We all get a bit jealous now and then for various reasons. Sometimes we don't even realize it, consciously. But do it in your own way. Maybe check to see if you’re getting a bit too close to the “inspiration” you admired, maybe reread often. Don’t hurt your fellow creatives. If you do and get caught don’t try to double down. Have the grace to be abashed at least and work to do better. Eventually you WILL get caught. All it takes is once to throw all else you've done into question. Ao3 doesn’t take kindly to plagiarists. Nor do a lot of fan communities focused on writing and RP. Getting back that trust is hard. The internet doesn’t forget easily, for good or ill.

You keep insisting that the ending Naruto pairings are the reason Boruto's sales are nowhere near as great as Naruto's, yet how come Boruto Naruto the Movie has brought in far more income than both RTN and The last combined? The Boruto Movie has gained almost 40.000.000$ while The Last only 20.000.000$ and RTN only around 17.000.000$. The reasons boruto is not as popular as naruto was is because the plot sucks, the anime has too many garbage fillers, the artstyle in the manga sucks, the new gen characters suck, and the manga wasn't even written by Kishimoto until recently. It has nothing to do with pairings. Hell, if NS became canon, people would've hated it even more, considering how hated Sakura was, and you even admitted she is the most hated character. And you also contradict yourself. First you say she's the most hated, then you say SP missed a marketing opportunity with her... like girl make up your mind? She's the most hated character in the franchize, in a poll she was chosen as the most hated by both male and female, even Kishimoto went out of his way to say girls came at him and said how much they despised Sakura, most people don't give a shit about her, using her as marketing strategy would've done more harm than good. She's even more hated in Japan and other Asian fandoms than she is in the western fandom, and that already says a lot! You're really arrogant to assume that the "silent majority" you speak of are all NaruSaku fans. I guarantee you it isn't. In fact, most people don't even care about ships that much. NaruSakus, you along with the SNS fans, SS fans, NH fans are part of the vocal minority that has nothing better to do than bitch about ships all day long.

But did I ever say that they were THE ONLY reason they are bad? They are an integral part of it yes, but not the only one.

Just because you saw some asks of mine here on Tumblr, you just throw these things around, like this is the only place I talk about the story of Naruto and this is the only aspect I do.

Yes, here on Tumblr I might do it through the virtue of the asks I receive, but that doesn't mean it's the only space I address these matters.

I have other social media channels as well where I discuss other aspects as well. Ya know, how like Boruto is nothing more than a tweaked "cooler" wanna-be version of Naruto, with no real substance whatsoever, a story that doesn't truly leaves a message behind, a morale, with characters that are the shells of their former selves or mechanics that are skewed and "free of" any logic.

But sure, make it as if that's the only aspect I talk about if that makes you sleep well at night.

As for the reason Boruto made so much? Well, I'll tell you why: because it had NaruSasu. Because they knew they messed-up with The Last, so they did the next best thing they could to try and keep the fanbase engaged.

Focused on the biggest portion of the fanbase that gathered around both shippers and non shippers by the virtue of focusing on Sasuke and Naruto and their offsprings. You know why? Because this way they catered to two human emotions: familiarity/comfort & curiosity.

Aka familiarity via having NaruSasu and curiosity to see the new gen kids.

Which yes, had momentum and seemed to have a perfect recipe: no focus on the ships that initially brought he whole mess (Sakura and Hinata were close to non-existent in that movie), and "repaying" the fanbase that was initially pissed at the fact that people thought this was gonna be a T7 movie because of the heavy Kakashi and Ssuke advertisement when they were there to be found for onlyyy few seconds, lol.

But you see, in the test of time, Boruto failed because of the aforementioned reasons.

You say that people would've hated the ending if NS would've been canon, yet curiously enough the number of people that are even non shippers and agree to the idea that NS should've been canon has been increasing over the years. Which in a really curious way was surprising to me too as an NS fan that returned to the fandom after so long.

So you see, I am not sure exactly about that aspect there. Not to mention, since when does a story has to do what the fanbase dictates it? The story should follow its course and intended narration and that's that.

Yes, Sakura was hated, but that's not a reason to not have Naruto end-up with her because within the story mechanics we had many proofs that indicated that they should've ended together, regardless of how people felt about them.

Kishimoto didn't say girls came at him, he said girls sent him letters, which are two different things, because to his face no one truly said that, minus the editors who kept pushing Hinata forward and their bias as well.

Lol at you saying that using her as a marketing strategy would've done more harm than good when she's the only female character being marketed right now via figurines and all those other things.

So reality seems to be contradicting you a bit on that side.

Not to mention, you say that she's the most hated even in Asia and Japan? LOL, where did u even take out these lies?

The hate phenomena has always been a western fandom thing, not an Asian/Eastern fandom one.

This whole hate thing was always a western fandom mirage, sadly, but in Japan and Asia she's always been loved. Like where did u even pull out that information from?

Also what I always said about a NaruSaku ending was that they could've taken a RTN route where they could've had ALL the pairings shown within a parallel universe, but sure, nice way to twist my words and make it like "I can't decide".

There are slight nuance differences which you either purposely not address or you don't know how to do the difference. The truth in this case only you know it.

But stop trying to act that high and mighty coming here on anon making it seem like ooh, I contradict myself and spread nonsense, just because you read a faction of all the ideas I discuss over my social media.

And now to address the silent majority argument. I never said silent majority are ONLY NaruSaku fans. That's what you assumed. Silent majority included NaruSaku fans yes, but also other fans who ya know, have some common sense within them and see how the story has been butchered for the sake of poorly treating a certain aspect of Naruto, which was the romantic one.

Which btw, you say that it wasn't a big deal, yet it was the no. plot included within the story, being presented as early as chapter 3, because chapter 1 and 2 revolved around Naruto wanting to become Hokage for people to acknowledge him and create bonds.

You say that the pairings aren't such a big deal in the fandom, yet guess what, SJ and SP directed a movie on that specific subject. Makes you wonder why now, doesn't it?

And it's a normal aspect to care about if you think about it for a manga that has been focused on BONDS. The romantic plot gets weaved in within the one about bonds really easily, because at the core of it it's about relationships.

And this whole world that we live it it's a relationship: between the body and the spirit, between then heaven and the earth, between friends, between relatives. EVERYTHING IN THIS WORLD HAS A RELATIONSHIP BASIS: atom interacts with atom and here we are, living, breathing beings.

But sure, come to me and paint me in this way you're trying as if talking about relationships and their quality is a bad thing.

Mhmm.

Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

Hmmm. All the versions of shagheera in my head follows the same basic story structure of “friends as kids, grow apart as they get older, reconnect as adults” EXCEPT for the jungle book/canon universe, where the first two DO apply to them (thank you jungle cubs for making that canon, idk where I’d be without jungle cubs canon.) but they continue to keep their distance from each other once they’re grown. I mean Khan tried to kill Bagheera’s kid AND his bear husband. I don’t think they ever can bounce back from that one. They got bad blood and they probably always will.

Unless….just kidding…..unless….

I think about the plot of this cancelled third jungle book movie very often. Yeah it would’ve been bad but….but….but adult Khan and Bagheera might have interacted. Also I wanna know how the fuck a shere khan redemption arc is written. Not very well probably but I still wanna see it. I think Disney should send me the script to this film. As a gift. I think I deserve it. It’s not like they want it. Hand it over, lads.

ANYWAY

Besides the talespin universe, I’ve got like two shagheera AUs

Treasure Planet AU — Bagheera is a scholar and astronomer who comes aboard Captain Shere Khan’s ship. The two know recognize each other as the childhood friend they used to play pirates with. So, rather ironic circumstances they’ve found themselves in. Neither know how to react to reuniting so they’re pretty awkward about it and refuse to acknowledge that they were ever close. They mostly interact with the distant politeness of people who barely know each other and strictly refer to the other Captain/Doctor (unless circumstances are dire) But they’re gonna be stuck on this ship together for the next few weeks so they better figure out what the fuck their relationship is.

Bagheera is deeply out of his element. He’s intimidated by the crew and he doesn’t know how to handle a weapon so he considers himself rather useless on this expedition. He’s never even held a pistol before and now he’s expected to know how to shoot one. He’s so frazzled that he nearly (accidentally) shoots Khan dead at one point. But he wouldn’t be Bagheera if he wasn’t stubbornly insisting that he knows what he’s doing, especially when the captain shoots some sardonic comment his way. The two get into more squabbles than he cane keep track of.

Shere Khan is exasperated with the doctor, with the boy he brought aboard, with the entire idiot crew he hired, but especially with the doctor. He attempts to keep himself composed but he keeps stooping to the most childish arguments and he feels like the presence of Bagheera is forcibly dragging him back 25 years every time they interact. Shere Khan does not know how to feel about that.

Shere Khan finds himself having to acknowledge that Bagheera is brilliant. Due to the doctor’s calculations, the ship avoided the waves of impact during a difficult path through a black hole and he’s the reason they got out alive. He never felt all that much admiration for the little brainiac when they were children but now he is absolutely blowing him away.

Bagheera starts spending more time in Shere Khan’s office because it’s the only place he feels comfortable. (The crew really creeps him out.) and they do everything from argue to discuss alternate routes to pour over the map. This evolves to Shere Khan teaching Bagheera what he knows about wielding a sword and they have many homoerotic sparring sessions. Sometimes they’ll lay out in the escape boats and Bagheera will teach Khan the names of all his favourite constellations. They have many homoerotic star gazing sessions. BASICALLY they have a gay space pirate love story but it’s behind the scenes stuff cuz Kit is the protagonist of this au and he doesn’t give a fuck what Shere Khan and Bagheera are doing.

They are forced to acknowledge that they care about each other when the stakes get more dangerous and both have their near death experiences, rattling the other considerably. At the very least they start calling each other by their first names again ❤️

Fairytale/ Dragon Princess AU — OKAY i don’t think I’ve ever publicly posted about this au so I won’t unpack all of it cuz I know y’all aren’t familiar with it. It’s mostly focused on Baloo/Rebecca and the bear family as a whole but Shagheera is involved too so I’ll focus on that part for now.

So basically Shere Khan was a kid prince and Bagheera was the son of a servant so, as the only two children in the castle, they’ve been playmates since before they could walk.

The only other children they interacted with were Bagheera’s friends (Baloo, Louie etc.) and Shere Khan’s wife-to-be, Princess Rebecca. Their parents arranged the engagement and neither Khan or Rebecca were thrilled about it. As they grow older, Bagheera leaves the palace to make his own way and he and Khan don’t keep in touch.

By the time they were young adults, mysterious circumstances paused Shere Khan and Rebecca’s upcoming marriage when word spread around that the princess had been horribly cursed and locked away in a tower. Details were sparse, even to her fiancé. All that was known was that she had last been seen talking with a man who had a reputation for being a dark mage and it can be deduced that he was the one behind the curse.

But before she disappeared, Rebecca sent Khan a letter begging him to please not retrieve her from the tower, warning him that whoever ventured out to save her would not make it back alive. Khan obliged of course, both because he respected her wishes and if she returned, he would have to marry her.

As a king, Shere Khan had excellent publicity. He was charming and charismatic in public, masking the fact that he was an absolute bitch in private. He was also obliged to act like he cared about his fiancée being returned to his side so every now and then he allowed whatever arrogant glory seeking fool who offered, to go “save” her. None of them lived.

Years later, Khan drops into an ancient, desolate library on the outskirts of town, hoping to find a particular book on plants. It’s after midnight, so he doesn’t have to deal with the scandal of the king being out and about. And who does he find between the shelves, bathed in the dim glow of oil lamps, but Bagheera, snoring on the floor in a pile of open books.

This begins a tentative acquaintanceship in which Khan escapes to the library every now and again for a change of scenery and to meet with Bagheera, who lives on the floor above.

It doesn’t take long for Shere Khan to learn Bagheera’s reputation. As it turns out, the passionate yet introverted scholar with books on the brain, is allegedly the “dark mage” that put a curse on Rebecca all those years ago. This would explain why his library is always empty. Everyone in town is petrified of him.

Rather than turn to anger or fear, Shere Khan can only feel disbelief and intrigue because whatever rumors are going around are clearly fabricated. He challenges Bagheera to perform some evil little spell for him, summon hellbeasts if he must. But Bagheera falters and it is revealed that underneath that reputation is a bit of a sham. Bagheera has been trying for years to become an adept mage but he just can’t get the hang of it. His spell-work is terrible. Always has been.

“Well surely you can’t have cursed the princess then?” Shere Khan reasons. But that’s not exactly true. Yes, Bagheera was not behind the original curse but when Rebecca came to him for help, he accidentally made it so so much worse. Bagheera is the reason shes been forced to hide herself away in a tower and he’s been spending all these years attempting to improve his magic so he can finally undo what he’s done.

And so Fairytale/Dragon Princess AU is a fantasy love story where Shere Khan attempts to help Bagheera effectively channel his magic. The fun part about it is magic is intricately tied to a persons emotional state so when you’re having homoerotic little scenes with your childhood buddy and he touches your forearm, you nearly set the whole goddamn library ablaze. Real gay shit.

Pairing: Farah and Aisha

Aisha feels as though she's falling behind her peers. Farah goes out of her way to show her the power she possesses.

On her way back to her office from lunch, Farah looked over her recently completed file of paperwork, triple checking that everything was in order. Budget forms were her least favorite, there were too many places to make mistakes, too many people to get upset with them, and she always found herself pouring over them for much longer than any other paperwork that crossed her desk.

She reached the entrance of her office, opening the door while making one last check to the numbers proposed for next year’s operational cost. “Aisha, will you file—”

There was a squeak and the sound of splashing water, and Farah looked up in surprise to see a stunned Aisha, hands still raised over a copper bowl as she stared at the now soaked desk in front of her, obviously having lost her concentration at Farah’s sudden appearance.

“Headmistress, I’m— I didn’t— I’m so sorry, I—” Aisha stuttered. She grabbed at the files on the desk, realizing they were all soaked, and bent her head, looking as though she was trying to curl up and disappear.

Farah waved her hand, the water disappearing and leaving the files as good as new. Aisha tried to look busy, straightening the stacks and avoiding Farah’s eye as she spoke. “I’m so sorry, I shouldn’t have— there was ten minutes until you’d return, and I’d finished everything, so I thought I’d practice— I should have waited until later but—”

“Aisha,” Farah interrupted, though not unkindly. “It’s alright, nothing was damaged.” The girl was still looking anywhere but her, so Farah continued. “I respect those who work hard and make the most of their time.”

Aisha huffed. “It’s not really hard work if I’m not making any progress,” she muttered, mostly to herself, but Farah heard, and furrowed her brows in concern.

“Hard work isn’t measured by the amount of success. Besides, you’re doing well in class.”

Aisha finally looked up at her, looking surprised that Farah had heard and remarked on her comment. “I—” she sighed and looked back down, toying with the corner of a file. “I don’t feel like I am. I feel like I’m falling behind. It’s getting easier for everyone to control their magic, but I feel like I have to work just as hard as the first day.”

Farah let out a small sigh, biting the inside of her cheek. She’d had students like Aisha before, and her heart always ached for them, wishing she could show them the power they possessed that they couldn’t see.

Though perhaps…

Mind made up, Farah set the budget file on the bookcase next to her and grabbed her coat from the rack, swinging it over her shoulders. “Come with me.”

Aisha looked up, brow furrowed in confusion. “Ma’am?”

Farah gave her a small smile, and gestured towards the door with a nod of her head. “Come.”

She lagged a moment while Aisha grabbed her jacket, and then she strode out of the office and made her way towards the grounds of Alfea.

Farah could feel Aisha’s confusion and trepidation as they walked across the lawn, and her shocked realization as Farah led them towards the dirt path that curved towards the river.

“Ma’am, why…” Aisha trailed off.

“There’s no better water to practice on then a source of it, yes?” Farah answered, continuing on even as the girl lagged behind a moment before jogging to catch up again.

She led them deeper into the forest, the smell of the pine and the damp earth nearly overwhelming, and Farah relished in its smell and taste as she took a deep breath. They were walking along the river now, but still she went on, aiming for a spot she knew by heart.

Finally they came to a low part of the bank, a spot Farah came to often when she needed solitude. She stepped onto the worn shore, mindful of her heels, and then motioned for Aisha to join her.

She shoved her hands in her coat pockets as Aisha came to stand next to her, looking at her expectantly before following her lead and staring out over the water. They stood there a minute before Aisha glanced over at Farah again, her confusion evident. “What am I supposed to do?”

Farah shrugged, giving the girl a fond smile before looking back out to the water. “Any sort of magic you’d like. The point of this exercise isn’t about the result of the magic, it’s about feeling the magic itself, connecting to it. So do what you’re most comfortable with.”

Aisha took a deep breath and then raised her hands, and Farah watched as a large ball of water rose out of the river, hovering. It grew, and then shrunk, and then lowered back into the water as Aisha gave a small sigh and dropped her hands.

“Miss Dowling, I don’t mean any disrespect when I say this, but my problem isn’t with doing magic, it’s… it’s the control of it. Big magic, like this, is okay because it’s stable and easy to get my mind around. But when I have to do smaller, more detailed magic, or I have to maintain it for a long time, I just… can’t. Not like the others can.”

Farah looked at Aisha, her heart aching for the girl’s dismay. “I understand why you might feel that way. But right now, I want you to forget about that. Don’t think of this as an attempt to fix your troubles with magic, or push yourself to do magic you struggle with. I want you to do something you’re comfortable with, because I want to focus on the connection you feel with the magic all around you. Let your imagination run wild — do anything you’d like.”

Aisha nodded slowly, then raised her hands again. Again, Farah watched as a large ball of water rose out of the river, this time accompanied by several smaller ones. They rotated around each other a bit, not unlike planets, before one wobbled and dropped back into the river. Aisha sighed again, this time tinged with frustration, and lowered the other orbs back into the water.

“I’m sorry, Miss Dowling, I know you’re trying to help. If I had more time to practice, maybe—”

Farah shook her head. “This isn’t about practice, Aisha,” she said gently. “This is about feeling that connection.”

Farah studied the girl, and a sudden pang of sympathy pulled at her chest. She remembered what it was like, being tested on the spot by her Headmistress, and all the anxiety and doubts that came with it. Not to mention with the embarrassment of the accident in the office, she couldn’t blame Aisha for struggling in front of her.

However, Farah was more stubborn than any student’s struggle.

A few steps away was a large, flat rock that jutted out into the deeper part of the river, and Farah moved towards it, motioning for Aisha to follow. Carefully stepping out of her heels, Farah climbed onto the rock and sat on the edge. She slipped her feet into the water, grateful she’d worn a dress that day, and again motioned for Aisha to join her.

Farah rolled her ankles in slow circles as Aisha pulled off her shoes and socks, marvelling at the way the water slipped by her so smoothly, barely a ripple as it moved past. The hypnosis of the water was broken when Aisha sat down, feet dangling next to hers, and Farah looked over at the girl, smiling.

“You’re a water fairy, so undoubtedly you have a connection to water, especially when you’re surrounded by it, yes?”

Aisha nodded. “It’s why I swim. That connection feels… comforting.”

Farah nodded. “Good. Now, focus on that connection.” She watched as Aisha’s eyes closed, feet slowly swaying in the water. “Feel it. Allow it to grow and surround you.”

She paused a minute, allowing Aisha to relax and find comfort in the river. The girl nodded, and Farah continued softly.

“Now use that connection to channel your magic. Don’t think about what you want the magic to do. Just allow it to flow from the water, into you, and back out again.”

All was still for a moment. And then ripples began to form on the water’s surface, little swirls and eddies bubbling up. They grew in number and strength, beginning to rise out of the river, and then, all at once, the water was dancing. Ribbons of water twirled out of the water, spiraling around each other in intricate, mesmerizing patterns. Waves formed along the top of the river, making little figures that ran, skipped, and jumped around in a playful manner that made Farah grin as she watched.

She looked over at Aisha, pride warming her chest at such a beautiful display of magic. “Open your eyes.”

Aisha did, the shock evident on her face as she saw the magic, her magic. The waves and ribbons wavered a little, a couple dropping back into the river, but Aisha took a breath and they resolidified, resuming their playful dance across the surface.

They watched the water for a while, listening to the gentle sounds of the figures dipping in and out of the river, before Aisha slowly brought them to a stop, then gently lowered them back into the water.

They sat quiet for a moment, Farah looking to see Aisha staring out at the water in awe, and she smiled to herself, knowing the girl was just starting to realize the power and discipline she possessed.

“That spark you feel in your chest, that connection with magic that is amplified through positive emotions — that is where control comes from. It’s not something you can force, but rather a relationship that you must carefully foster and grow. No amount of practice will do you any good if you first don’t find that connection and use it to steady yourself and the magic inside you.”

Aisha was nodding, still staring out at the water, and Farah laid a gentle hand on her shoulder. The girl looked at it in surprise, but Farah continued on. “You have great potential, Aisha. Do not squander yourself in self doubt.”

Aisha slowly looked up to meet her eyes, and nodded slowly. “I won’t, Headmistress.”

Farah smiled at her. “Good,” she said, and lifted her feet from the water. “Solaria would lose a powerful fairy if you did.”

She stood then, Aisha following suit, and Farah had just smoothed the skirt of her dress when suddenly strong arms were wrapped around her in a fierce hug, Aisha’s cheek pressed to her shoulder. “Thank you, Miss Dowling,” she said, voice slightly muffled. “For showing me what I can do.”

Farah smiled to herself, heart swelling in her chest, and she wrapped her arms around Aisha, returning the warm hug. “We all need a little encouragement from time to time.”

Aisha slowly let go after a minute, taking a step back, and Farah looked her over, noting the subtle changes in her posture, her eyes, the line of her mouth — the assurance there that wasn’t present before, and pride warmed Farah’s body, tingling in the tips of her fingers.

Taking a breath, Farah smiled at Aisha, then stepped off of the rock and into her shoes before turning to the girl. “Good work today.”

Aisha beamed at her, sitting to put on her shoes, and Farah watched as her gaze drifted back towards the water, obviously remembering the magic she’d done.

“Come,” Farah said lightly, turning to step up onto the path. “You can come back later. I still have a few things for you to file.”
