Mario x Mermaid AU

Takes a little bit of inspiration from The Little Mermaid. Contains some Mareach and (platonic) brotherly love.

PREMISE

🐚 Mario and Luigi are merman who live in the seas of the Mushroom Kingdom. Their father, Pio, the strongest and most magic equipped of their family, has always forbid the brothers from going to the surface.

🐚 "The beings above have their own concerns. And neither do they care for ours. Our worlds are not meant to co-exist."

🐚 But Mario especially has always had an interest in the surface, and along with his brother Luigi, loves to explore old shipwrecks, collect objects from the surface that they have no idea what they are but they are cool, and playing in the various small coves on the beaches of the Mushroom Kingdom.

🐚 One day while having one of these bonding moments, the brothers notice a ship coming in, and swim up closer to investigate. Luigi is hesitant to go any further, but Mario is curious about the celebration on board. It turns out it's a birthday party for the Mushroom Kingdom's princess, Peach.

🐚 The moment Mario sees her, he's instantly entranced by her. She's the most beautiful being he has ever seen. And her voice is almost like a siren call.

🐚 Mario dares to get closer, and happens to eavesdrop on a conversation between Peach and her supervisor, Toadsworth. Peach is quite worried as a threat from the sea, the sea monster Bowser, is starting to show itself, and Peach is certain this monster wants to claim her kingdom.

🐚 Suddenly the party is interrupted by the arrival of a thunder storm. It proves to be stronger than the surface dwellers realise, and very soon the ship is overpowered and is forced to retreat.

🐚 In the chaos, Peach tries to rescue a toad subject who is about to fall in, but is thrown overboard herself. Without even thinking, Mario dives after her, with Luigi yelling after him. He pulls her unconscious body up to the surface, and swims with all the strength he has to get her to safety.

🐚 Mario manages to get the princess to a nearby beach, and stays with her until the storm subsides. During this time, he notes about how kind she was to put her subjects before herself, reflected so much in her beauty that he can't seem to draw his eyes away from...

🐚 Soon after Luigi shows up (after an almost panic induced meltdown for his brother!).

🐚 "She's so beautiful, Luigi...", Mario whispers, his eyes not leaving Peach. Luigi looks at his brother. He knows that look his older brother has. And he's both happy, and worried for him.

🐚 Just as Peach begins to wake up, the brothers hear the cries of her subjects looking for her, and quickly dive back into the sea before they are spotted.

🐚 "Princess!", Toadsworth pants, nearly beside himself. "Are you right?!"

🐚 "Oh Toadsworth...", says Peach. "A man...rescued me. He was so kind to me..."

🐚 Toadsworth and her subjects take her away to be tended to, and meanwhile Mario is on cloud nine. He drifts through the sea in a goofy daze, and Luigi smirks as he takes in the look on his brother's face.

🐚 "You're in love with her 😏", he says. Mario blushes and tells him that he's wrong!

🐚 Returning to their home, the brothers arrive to find everyone in a state of panic. The sea monster Bowser has been seen nearby, and appears to be making its way to the surface.

🐚 Mario's heart freezes, for he realises that Bowser is heading to the Mushroom Kingdom - just like Peach said!

🐚 He tells his father that they needs to go up to the surface and save them. Pio refuses, not wanting his family, and especially his sons, to get involved. But then he realises...

🐚 "There is another...", Pio says, voice shaking.

🐚 "You cannot be with them", Pio says firmly before Mario can speak. "There is nothing we can do. And don't you dare bring your brother with you. You've dragged him into this obsession long enough! Don't you dare hurt him any more!"

🐚 Mario is hurt, and flees from the room before anyone can see his tears. Luigi follows, and finds Mario frustrated and broken over what to do. He wants to help so bad, but like his father said, he can't risk putting anyone on danger, especially his brother.

🐚 After everyone is asleep, Mario sneaks out to think things over, and runs into a sea witch called Kammy.

🐚 "You want to save those on the surface, right?", asks Kammy. "I can help you with that."

🐚 Mario is not foolish, but he is desperate to help Peach and the Mushroom Kingdom in any way he can. He follows Kammy to her cave, and she proposes a plan: If Mario can give up a part of himself, then she will turn him into a human so he can walk on the surface and meet Peach.

🐚 Thus, Mario makes a brash decision to try and save the Mushroom Kingdom, and the seas...

Sanji and Usopp are from the modern age, in university instead of high school. Friends since middle school (dead mom club and all that), and so Sanji sometimes hangs out with Usopp at the temple shrine Usopp was raised in after Banchina's death, when Sanji's family becomes too much to deal with.

Usopp wandered a little farther ahead of Sanji, to aim his slingslot randomly at some plants, when he suddenly falls through the ground. Sanji waits around for Usopp to pop back up and complain like usual, only this time he doesn't. Panicked, Sanji rushes forwards to the covered well Usopp was standing on previously, only the wooden cover had rotted out and broke when Usopp stood on it. The well is very dark and very deep.

Sanji is debating heading down for his friend verses running back to the temple for more help when something tugs him into the well also.

On the otherside, Sanji doesn't find Usopp. He does find a demon in the form of Wanze and his ramen kenpo abilities. After getting stuck to the noodles and tossed around, he decided to make a run for it, eventually making his way to the tree that Zoro is stuck in, held in place by Wado Ichimonji.

He doesnt stop to think, just yanking the sword out (if it food, I can deal with it, Sanji thinks, he just needs the right tools).

He elects to ignore the flash of light behind him, instead focusing on chopping up the incoming ramen (and for once glad that he was made to spar against his brothers using swords instead of his preferred capoeira kick boxing fusion). Zoro rushes in, two sword style, and finishes the demon, before relieving Sanji of his precious sword.

They argue a bit, Zoro says he needs to head into town and begins to walk off. Sanji notices the smoke from some fires and yanks Zoro in the opposite direction. Zoro killed the monster, Sanji will show him to town to settle any debt owed due to that.

Meanwhile, Usopp had not run into any demons upon first entering, though he did wander away from the well, seeing something in the trees. After walking a bit, he starts to hear not so great singing. He follows it to a tree and freaks out when he sees a man tied to it using his own arms and legs. Luffy hears Usopp freak out, and begs him to release him from the tree. He's so hungry, please?

And Sanji had instilled in Usopp his No Man Goes Hungry morals. Usopp makes Luffy vow to not eat him if his does help untangle the limbs. Luffy, of couse, agrees with a serious face. Usopp is still convinced he will get bitten once the other is free, but helps anyway. As Usopp unwinds the other, Luffy explains why he got tied to a tree, how he needs to find his friend Zoro, and that he will be King of the Demons one day. Usopp freezes at that, but it too late, Luffy is free enough to finish unwinding himself.

Luffy drags Usopp against his will to the nearest place that smells like it has food, conveniently meeting up with their companions along the way before they enter the village. Usopp and Sanji dispair to each other when it seems that the village does not contain any modern amenities. The villagers agree to host them in a barn overnight if they agree to some manual labour in the morning.

Except, in the middle of the night, some more demons attack. These are more zombie like in appearance, and all three of our protagonists plus an an Usopp that doesnt want to fight but doesnt want to be left behind either, go to help the village. All the zombies are congregating towards the shrine, where a priestess Nami is stationed. She is whacking the demons off as best she can, and Sanji rushes off to help her once he sees that. They thin the hoard, but at the end, Nami gets nabbed by a bat like zombie. None of them can help except–Sanji calls out to Usopp, kicking to him a red marble that must have been dropped in the scuffle.

Usopp aims and fires it at the bat creature, only it turned to try and deflect the object with its claws. It smashed the supposed marble, causing a bigger explosion as the shards flung itself to the far corners of the world. Nami screamed as she was dropped, only to be caught by Zoro, as the bat creature flew away.

Nami proceeded to beat the shit out of Sanji and Usopp, a few smacks aimed at Luffy and Zorro for good measure, as she explained that what was destroyed was a map that would lead to the previous Demon King's treasure, one of a kind type maps.

Usopp frees himself from her wrath, as he picks s piece of shard up from the pebbles in the road and says it should be too hard to piece them together again cause they shine so bright.

Apparently, no one else can see the shine and Usopp feels like its going to be a long day.

Been kicking around an idea for a Shen Twins Au for a bit.

What if Shen Yuan is born as Shen Jiu’s twin brother, with no memories of his previous life or pidw. Neither of them know who the older twin is between the two, but Shen Jiu takes it upon himself to be the oldest and protect his little brother. And look after Qi-ge too, because he’s too kind for his own good.

When Qi-ge leaves to become a cultivator, Shen Jiu forces Shen Yuan to go to. Shen Yuan doesn’t want to leave his gege behind, but insists. They promise they’ll come back as quick as they can to rescue Shen Jiu.

Like in the novel, Yue Qi tries to take Xuan Su and goes into a qi deviation.

Around the same time, Shen Yuan deviates too. He reaches a certain stage in his cultivation and regains his memories of his first life. Suddenly he realizes his gege, the one who’s looked after him his whole life, is none other than Shen Qingqiu. And he’s terrified for his fate.

Headcanon where after so many arguments between the batkids and Bruce over his paranoia and complete disregard for his kids privacy, the entire family had compromised with (in the healthiest way possible) downloading life360 on their phones and that's how they all keep track of each other.

Now Bruce knew that this is mostly for his benefit and is supposed to be a healthy alternative for his unhealthy paranoia and helicopter parenting, but what he wasn't expecting was for his kids to start keeping track of him.

He's putting gas in his car and Dick calls him because apparently Dick has been watching him drive around on the app? And Bruce is currently at a gas station thats right around the corner from a Taco Bell and now Dick wants him to get food for everyone since he's already there.

He's driving home from a meeting and Steph calls him because her and Duke were shopping in the area and wants to know if he can pick them up, when he asks how she knew he was on the same street, he gets a "Oh I just like to stalk everyone on the app for funsies." as an answer.

Jason calls him and he can barely get out a hello before Jason cuts him off, "Bruce why the fuck is your phone battery on 5%, charge your damn phone" which completely stuns him because why does he know that. He clears his throat before answering. "Jason, what?"

"Everyone can see each others phone batteries on '360, now charge your phone." Is all he gets before Jason hangs up on him.

i know it’s like years old at this point but i love that one collab mumbo and grian did with tommyinnit bc it’s like the single most concentrated example i’ve seen of mumbo’s Chaos Nullification Powers

you get to see a bit of it on hermitcraft, mostly via his interactions with grian, but until seeing that collab it didn’t really hit me just how completely mumbo can no-sell other people’s attempts to control a situation. tommyinnit is possibly the single shoutiest, most chaotic minecraft youtuber out there, and in most videos i’ve seen he pretty much overwhelms everyone else and sets the tone for interactions because of this. but mumbo just. doesn’t let him. no matter how much tommy escalates in intensity, mumbo reacts with *exactly* the same energy he always does. grian largely comes across in the whole video as annoyed and reluctant to engage with the whole thing, but mumbo’s not even affected. he just rolls with anything he finds funny and basically ignores anything he disapproves of, only seeming more and more unflappable the harder anyone tries to get a rise out of him.

AND imo, this is the key to my favorite interpretation of him as a character

see, when the people around him are being more reasonable/calm, i think mumbo often comes across as anxious and a bit easily overwhelmed. the thing is, his nervous wet cat vibes do not scale. he has one setting. his responses to the last life ‘ah-ha!’ jokes and to hermitcraft 8 starting to crumble to pieces under a falling moon are almost identical.

mumbo jumbo is inexorably and eternally Just Some Guy, but that gets stranger and stranger the weirder his surroundings become. the giggly incredulousness that makes him an easy target for goofy puns looks Very different when it’s also his reaction to the impending end of the world.

#anyway yeah i have this whole idea in my head about mumbo’s friendship with grian from a characterization standpoint #bc i agree with the somewhat? common consensus that being friends with mumbo has made grian softer and friendlier over time #but i don’t think it was in a ‘reflecting back the kindness he’s being shown’ way #i think it’s because the more harsh and chaotic you try to be towards mumbo the more you feel ineffectual and out of control #and grian can’t handle it so he slowly becomes nicer until he feels like they’re on equal footing again #like don’t get me wrong i think they genuinely are good friends #and i don’t think this is necessarily something mumbo is doing on purpose #but i think the power dynamic going on under the surface is much more bizarre and weighted in mumbo’s favor than it seems at first glance #mumbling

listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded psychopath happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.
