Not meaning to throw any shade at Rem, but I hate how her character ended up being restricted to only loving Subaru. It became her personality and her reason to exist

Meanwhile my man Otto has layers and fun dynamics with everyone WHILE also being codependent and hopelessly in love to Subaru (in my point of view)

I hope that now Tappei will be able to balance Rem's character and give her another personality trait besides her love for Subaru

ok so if anyone else is seeing this, this is referring to a poll i made a few days ago pitting rem and otto against each other bc theyre both the resident codependent subaru devotees and they do parallel/contrast each other a bit 👍

but yeah anon… not to affect the poll results or anything wkdndnd but i agree a lot with you!! i have mixed feelings on rem bc i do love her a lot—im halfway through her and ram’s prequel novel and im enjoying it a lot, and also i liked her the moment i watched season 1 of the anime for the first time. shes an intriguing character with a well written backstory and her own set of flaws and traits. but i think the big thing is her and ottos relationships with subaru, while subaru is first place in both of their hearts and subaru comes first before anyone else at this point, rem and ottos flavors of Dependency are different?

like with rem, i think its the point that her whole being ends up revolving around subaru. not that otto isnt like that either, of course, but otto has Way More of a life outside of subaru. otto has a whole group of people from the emilia camp to marone and his family that he cares about other than subaru, and on top of that, ottos job in the emilia camp is to communicate with others both within and outside of his camp. then theres his dp, which is also dependent and ABOUT communication. when it comes to rem and otto, theres absolutely no competing on this, otto is the one with more of. a Life. not that rem doesnt have other people she cares about and other people she talks with and other people she likes (and also rem was unfortunately Gluttonyed), but the top two closest people in her life were always ram then subaru. otto got lucky with his loving family, bc rems Entire Life has molded her into being dependent on others. shes told by her family that the only reason shes alive is bc ram saved her. ram is the only person who loves her. she envies ram and then she feels so guilty after her village is destroyed and rams horn is gone (especially when rem is initially. kind of Glad that rams horn is gone). so rem places her worth on serving the people she loves—ram and subaru. rem has spent her WHOLE LIFE like this. remsuba as a relationship has its ups and downs but arc 3 rem is, while sweet and well meaning, shes not the healthiest. remsuba isnt the healthiest. and then arc 7-8 comes in and yeah while rems pov of subaru and the whole situation is Understandable from what little she knows, yeah its not the healthiest either (and also i dont forgive her for being mean about natsumi wkfndnd).

not that ottosuba is the Healthiest given they seem like theyre going to become. a bit Toxic in arc 8 if they keep being stubborn, but the big difference is in how otto and rem devote themselves. bc rems problem (in arc 3) is that she enables subaru a little too much. i mean sloth if exists for a reason, she ran away with subaru and RAM AND EVERYONE ELSE DIED. ottos problem is that hes 1. obsessed with opposing subaru and 2. not straightforward with his feelings the way arc 3 rem is. bc at least pre gluttony rem is gonna straightforwardly be like “id do anything for you” and “i love you” etc etc. like yeah ottos like “youre my friend!!” but hes also gonna complain nonstop about subaru to his face and say shit like “ill leave at the first sight of danger!!” RIGHT AFTER RISKING HIS LIFE FOR SUBARU. and also even then arc 8 rems siding with subaru on louis so shes enabling him in that respect too (even though arc 8 rem is different from arc 3 rem of course). ergo, rem is the one who wants to support subaru Unconditionally. even if its not what youd consider the right decision. otto tries to help subaru get what he wants, but if otto doesnt agree he starts getting aggressive. rem makes herself pliable and into a bit of a doormat for subaru, otto starts getting out the pitchforks and tries to control things bc he thinks his way his best for subaru in the end. that, and while subaru does go first in ottos heart, hes STILL loyal to the entire emilia camp as a whole (minus roswaal). thats why he wanted to leave vollachia, he wanted to save the ENTIRE emilia camp.

but like you said anon—while the point is that rem ends up centering her whole life around subaru, i feel that tappei handles otto (who has SIMILAR PLOT BEATS) with far more nuance. like while otto will literally do anything else besides actually say “i love you” or “id do anything for you”, his arc is more straightforward and consistent than rems. again, rem got gluttonyed and a bunch of different stuff have happened with her so of course her arc has been more Dramatic in its changes, but with otto he grows and changes but at the same time he doesnt change At All. his arc 8 self is doing stuff hes been capable of this whole time, vollachia and subaru just bring out his more hidden traits. the narrative is just way more consistent with emphasizing that while otto thinks hes in the right, hes also Wrong in a lot of ways. his mindset rn is Not Healthy and i feel that the narrative shows that more with him than it does rem a lot. like the writing literally goes out of its way to shit on otto a bit for being a little messed up in the head, while you have to read more into rems plot and then some audiences just completely miss the point of her character. that and—yeah, rems reasons are all very understandable, but i feel that tappei romanticizes her a bit too much. all you have to do is look at sloth if bc sloth if seems a Bit too fluffy to me despite the absolute Dark Backdrop. like yeah. subaru rbds back to arc 3 at the end. but i feel like sloth if just sweeps a lot of the dark underbelly under the rug. ottosuba as a dynamic to me just feels more Equal than remsuba does, which is probably a bit strange HAH bc ottosuba as a dynamic is based on Conflict (especially when you remember ottosuba across the ifs too) and their power dynamics in arc 8 are likely going to get crazy at some point.

plus its like—the way the whole louis situation has been handled made me think that tappei wouldnt even bother examining the Problems with louis and subaru + rems relationships with louis, but luckily arc 8 has been getting into that more. so like i dont completely trust tappei with female characters (he has a habit of. fumbling the bag a bit with them sometimes, imo. he gets out such great complex main female characters then he starts messing up with their writing like halfway through). but like you anon, i hope that rem gets far more character development. the poor girl has spent her whole life basing her worth on others….

and well. again, i think the difference in how the writing treats otto vs rem is probably also bc ottos a boy and rems a girl. so of course otto consistently gets a bit more nuance, and of course certain parts of the audience just see rem and think “waifu who would do anything for you” rather than “this is a traumatized girl who means well but has poor boundaries and Codependency Issues”, and some people see otto and think “he doesnt love subaru that much lol” and sweep his own codependency and Issues under the rug. and then you look at the narrative and, like you said anon, otto is allowed to have fun dynamics with everyone while still being Fixated on subaru. rem hasnt had much of a chance in that category yet.

this is late like all my asks are, since I practically live at my job djfgksgkjsg ty Sasha!! <3 I'll answer for both bc I love them :')

17. What do they notice first in the mirror versus what most people first notice looking at them?

Lyn: the smile of a winner!! 💃 actually, I think what they usually notice (or look at, anyways) is the purple hair in their streaks, to see if it's still good or if it's fading and they need to touch it up. as for what other people notice first, I figure it's probably the heterochromatic green & grey eyes.

Tysinno: probably his eyes, and specifically if he still has any eyeshadow from the night before still on, since he'll fall asleep with it frequently enough lol. with other people, I imagine they'll probably notice the glowing eyes or the white streak of hair before anything else.

25. What subject / topic do they know a lot about that’s completely useless to the direct plot?

Lyn: Shakespeare! one of their dads is an indie film director who's done more than a few movies based on said plays, so Lyn is more than well-versed in the subject. their name even comes from one of his plays: Lyn is short for Lychorida, a character from Pericles.

Tysinno: he knows how to help safely deliver a baby! which I doubt will come up in SHOH proper, but I imagine it's something he did in his backstory during his years on the road. he's also got an interest in astronomy, and could name a lot of stars and their corresponding myths (if any).

39. Would they rather be invited to an event to feel included or be excluded from an event if they were not genuinely wanted there?

Lyn: invited and included, even if they weren't wanted. Lyn isn't lacking in self-love and self-confidence, and would initially have a hard time believing they weren't wanted... before resolving to change minds with their charm lol.

Tysinno: excluded if he wasn't wanted. Tysinno isn't big on most social events as it is, unless it's either a small group of close friends or some really big thing where he could drink in the corner by himself lol. he'd rather stay home and read a book.

52. Do they act on their immediate emotions, or do they wait for the facts before acting?

it's definitely a mix of both for the both of them, depending on the situation they're in? with that said:

Lyn: maaaybe acts on their immediate emotions a bit more? they're proud and stubborn, and if they think they're right about something or if X should happen right now, they'll probably act on that feeling. they're pretty big on following their gut instincts about stuff.

Tysinno: waits for the facts a bit more. he doesn't like the idea that something bad could happen as a result of rushing in before thinking things through, and wants to take the time to make sure he's making the right choice.

55. What’s something they’re expected to enjoy based on their hobbies / profession that they actually dislike / hate?

Lyn: they're not an investigative journalist yet. that said, the whole building connections and making contacts part of it all. while they don't completely hate it by any means, they do dislike how much time it can take to find the right people to be able to talk to.

Tysinno: (note that this one is stolen from my sister, as I have the artistic skills of a peanut and she is very good at it) shading his artwork. adding more details and making things more lively should be fun, right? wrong! or at least, he finds it a bit stressful to try and add those extra details to make things look the way he pictures it.

I wanna talk shepherds with you, if you have a moment! The first dogs I ever fell in love with were border collies (my uncle's showline dogs), my friend's GSD mix, and both a heeler mix and a couple wonderful GSDs from when I worked in boarding. It's been suggested to me that I would find a R/S collie a wonderful fit for me but I have only met one (he was perfect BTW) so I'm wondering your thoughts on the breed and if you have any comparisons to GSDs or BCs specifically?

big ol' asterisk first that i have not spent extended amounts of time with GSDs or BCs, so my answer is probably going to be very vague, as most of my impressions from those breeds are from short interactions, or what i've observed of them in a vet hospital (which i know is not a great showcase of character).

i would not say that collies and GSDs are very similar to live with, but that's also going to really depend on the type of GSD you're used to - there's such a variety of personalities between police K9s, working/sporting lines, BYB messes, generic pet-bred dogs, and showlines. in my experience GSDs tend to be much more blunt in their communication - i feel like you always know what they're asking for, or what they're unhappy about. and there's also the fact that GSDs are (generally) going to default to Bitey Time and standing their ground if they feel pushed, and that is very opposite of a collie. i am not at all a GSD person, but my favorite one i've ever spent time with was a showline dog - he was enormous, and mellow, and stunningly beautiful, and i'm sure true-blue working GSD people would have hated him, but i thought he was a great dog (draw what conclusions you want from that). i don't vibe with dogs that come off really strong, which is why i like sighthounds and collies a lot - they're both more subtle in their behavior. i would not call a GSD subtle lol.

the collie/BC comparison is a bit closer, with the main difference being 'sharpness', i think. IME a collie is going to be much more tolerant - of handling, of other animals, of their environment, of training. they are sensitive dogs and can shut down if the wrong buttons are pushed, but it's generally easy to see that happening and they can also recover well with patience. collies are very polite dogs at heart, and avoid conflict. not to say they don't have their snarky or feisty sides (@ stellina) but when shit gets serious, they will almost always back away from conflict. some people want a dog with a little more fire - those people i'd probably steer away from collies. but some people (like me) like having a dog that's a pacifist at heart, because it makes them very safe and easy dogs to live with. i have zero tolerance for aggression (human or animal), so a dog that's socially fluid is super important to me.

(keep in mind that none of this excludes confidence - some collie lines have issues with fear and anxiety. a well-bred collie should be a pacifist, but confident and polite. if they startle, they recover. their curiosity and intelligence helps them stay adaptable, so while issues like reactivity and fearfulness can still be an issue, they really shouldn't be.)

i think what really sets a collie apart from other herders is that inherent politeness - it really softens a lot about them and, unlike most other herding breeds, it's what allows them to be such good candidates for service and therapy work. IMO a collie is kind of a best of both worlds for herding dogs - they are smart and silly and up for trying on new challenges and adventures, but they're also easy and flexible and not demanding. they let you know what they're feeling, but aren't in-your-face. if you particularly like a dog with a lot of sharpness and resilience, a collie's probably not the best fit. if you want an active companion and don't mind the flexibility that's required for raising a "soft" dog, i think a collie works great! definitely try to spend some time with them if you can, i really fell in love with the breed once i started meeting them.

tl;dr i wouldn't say collies are super similar to GSDs or BCs, but if you like the core herding dog personality just wrapped up in a squishy sensitive layer, then you'll like a collie.

I am in a heavy supply drought and in a moment where I’m more self aware of how my NPD affects me (which sucks btw- I hate it)

Now that I know I’m not above needing supply to function here is a non exhaustive list of things that give me supply as a narc

- listening to music that validates my emotions/internal experience

- watching characters that I kin/heavily project on and can live vicariously through

- talking to people.

- going to social outings, dressing esp nice for it. If it’s something considered “cool” like going out to dinner in a big city, blasting music with friends in a car, being noticed <3<3 I feel like I’m in a movie . Depression? Don’t know her

- dressing in clothing I can tolerate wearing, showing off fashion, even if it’s not in current trends or whatever tf. Clothing is like art to me and art doesn’t have an expiration date

- social media. I hate being perceived though bc of trauma but. It’s an interesting mix

- my antisocial behaviors. Sometimes. Like if I’m doing something reckless and it feels good, esp if it makes me feel free. I get the antisocial superiority and narc high combo and it’s HOT

- having knowledge on things both applicable and non applicable to me! If it gets heads turning and people curious OMG

- sometimes being respectful/considerate?? Like ex using tone tags (not the reason I use them, or even started using them), helping someone with a niche problem, etc. normally my aspd hates people pleasing and would rather die 1000 times but small transactional things are an exception when I want to

- using my hobbies and showing them off

- being complimented by strangers (if it feels genuine)

- my emotions/personal boundaries taken into consideration and acknowledged, especially if it’s with my disabilities or more stigmatized things or stuff I’m ashamed of

- people giving me space when I need it

- reading. I love knowledge

- dubbing songs, quotes, aesthetics, movies, or etc “my own”. It’s Mine now. Btw :3

- silly emoticons! I’m flavorful

- showing off my body sometimes

- fitting into well liked aesthetics or concepts, esp if it has depth and genuinely encompasses me as an individual

- having mutual connections with others

- small comments to me (depending on the person/where they are on my internal hierarchy)

- being taken seriously

- people appreciating all that I am/what I want to be

- gifts!

- people texting first, sending considerate messages, etc

- gifts that relate to my grandiosity!! Like omg you let me be me?? Marry me rn /j

- assigning me anything. I’m a certain color? What song am I? I’m special??

im just doing all of these at once regardless of likes and i'm doing it here because i hate twitter's character limit. and i love the sound of my own voice. feel free to steal it from me if you like in fact please do

i listen to music when i write Sometimes. i try to keep it to stuff without lyrics or stuff with lyrics in a language i don't speak fluently enough for them to distract me. sometimes i do listen to music in english if i've heard the song so many times that i can kind of tune out the words but in general music with lyrics pulls the language bits in my brain in too many directions

i tell my close friends about plans for my fics and talk to them about it and sometimes let them beta sections of writing but in general i'm a no beta/loose beta kind of guy.

depends. i used to write more often in past tense but i switched to present recently and i feel like the immediacy of present makes it a lot easier for me especially where more figurative prose is concerned. i've been meaning to try past tense again just to see if it's really more difficult or if my decision to switch tenses is unrelated

pretty even mix. i start and abandon longfics like nobody's business

i guess if you count oc/canon or oc/oc stuff as rarepairs but. not really? shrug

i try really hard to write principal characters as close to canon as possible, but background characters i take more liberties with. in general i don't like discarding canon characterization bc it feels like, ok, why not just write an oc? after a certain point. like the point is that i enjoy the character as depicted yknow

i don't really think about this. if you put some cliches or tropes in front of me in a story i'd be able to identify them and say whether or not i like them but a lot of times it's contextual and i like the execution more than the trope itself. or vice versa. i like reincarnation romance conceptually but do not often like the way it's written

i fucking hate omegaverse. gender is a prison

i dont have any notps really. i dont spend time thinking about specific ships i hate i just ignore them

nice dichotomy, now what lies outside it? i guess i like both fluff and smut but i don't know that i really care for fluff vs smut as a binary. my personal definition of "fluff" encompasses any particularly tender feel-good warm fuzzy kind of fiction and that doesn't preclude sexual intimacy in the slightest. conversely i love a good bit of tender feel-good warm fuzzy smut but do not really like "fluff" in the way i tend to see it used in fandom as specifically like sexless "wholesome" feel-good slice of life stuff a la coffee shop au. nothing wrong with that but i get a little bored of it unless it's a breather in a longer work with dramatic weight personally

i love angst. i think my personal hangup is that angst has to have a point and be about something. angst for the sake of angst inevitably feels kind of cheap and shallow to me. whenever i write angst it's like to process something specific so i tend to have a lesson in mind at the end of the work

in the shower or lying awake in bed at night the same as everyone else i assume

plantser. i always have an outline in mind but it's flexible. vague. mutable. gossamer

i title my chapters and i kick myself for starting the habit every time bc i'm dogshit at titles

i think most of my pet peeves are smut-related which says a lot about me. stop saying core to mean vagina. stop saying sex as a noun for genitals. i never want to see sac again. also i fucking despise orbs as a noun for eyes and i thought we'd abolished that like via geneva convention sometime in 2015 but people still use it.

scene transitions and communicating the passage of time. im still working on that

bold of my amateur ass to give advice but i think READ REAL BOOKS. is high on the list. not just fiction, either. read nonfiction, both bc it can be surprisingly engaging and poetically written and because it's good to learn facts about things. read wikipedia. recipe blogs. i dont care. read everything you possibly can that is not fanfiction. and when you are watching tv and movies pick apart every narrative you encounter to see how it works. you will be a better writer for it i promise

like literally i dont think any one piece of media has ever made me so joyful! It just just so beautiful. Visually its so pretty, thematically it toes (tows?) the line of realistic and comforting really well (at least for me), the acting is incredible - especially considering the age of the actors, and the constant unapolagetic queerness that is so obvoiusly written by queer people is so refreshing and just .. nice to see. Nick saying 'im bi, actually' so many times was heartwarming and - as someone who is bi themself - it was so nice to see that the only time the usual bi stereotypes were presented was through nicks anxiety (and also ben). I am so scared to see where they take nick's self worth in regards to his 'similarities' to ben bc i don't want to see him sad. I had already read the comics so it was so cool to see how effective this adaptation is continuing to be. the final few scenes of episode 6 have altered me as a human being and are like a visual form of pure nostalgia and comfort. the taylor song in there is so gorgeous. and speaking of songs the entire soundtrack was perfect (like they understand the vibe and the target audience) and had me doing the leo dicaprio pointing meme constantly. I also watched both seasons several times in the last few weeks and probably will rewatch for the rest of my life tbh. I cannot wait for the next season. anyway yea

I 100% agree I just watch this show or read the comics and I am smiling uncontrollably and just feel so warm and comforted and happy it's insane!! It's so beautiful to see something that feels so genuine and it's awkward but sweet and even seeing the changes and growth of all the characters from season 1 to season 2 feels so realistic!

Nick Nelson saying "I'm bi, actually" about seven times in S2 is literally so accurate and I felt so validated by that because it's so real (also as a fellow bisexual) to have to continually justify your sexuality depending on who you're in a relationship with. The queer rep is just wonderful and can I just say that Isaac's journey this season was one of my favourites and the way I screamed when he went back into the library and claimed the ace book at the end 🤌

Anyone who hurts Nick Nelson or makes him feel sad must endure my wrath! I want to put him in my pocket and protect him from all the sad in the world he is so sweet and caring and kind to Charlie, I hate seeing him compare himself to Ben but I love the way they showed that yes the situation was similar but he was so different because he cared about how his coming out made Charlie feel too and they literally talked and communicated, it was fucking beautiful.

And the whole hickey shenanigans from Charlie noticing it (or lbh from when Buck gave it to him) was so funny and realistic and just that episode was perfection (I'm saying this like all episodes weren't 😅)

The Taylor song scene literally did things to my heart, I felt that scene physically, and you are so right the whole soundtrack is perfect! I mean, Taylor aside you have girl in red, Conan Gray, Gabrielle Aplin, wolf Alice, Holly humberstone, Miya folick like so many more I am obsessed with the soundtrack! And have you listened to the "to Nick from Charlie" playlist based on the mixed tape from vol 1? It's literally also a vibe and has Hayley kiyoko (my beloved) and Troye Sivan (I was JUST SAYING that his blue neighbourhood album is so heartstopper coded and wild is one of the tracks 😭)

My life currently consists of:

Return from work and watch reels from the show / rewatch episodes

Read more comic (trying to spread it out so I get more but I am failing)

Constantly think about all of them until I fall asleep

ah! hello anon!! sorry i took a while, i usually don't get asks and this honestly made me very happy!!! 🧪 buckle up because you've just opened the flood gates

(also i use commas like my life depends on it, so my apologies in advance for run-ons)

so, let's see, my favorite interpretation of the strange case of... , that's a bit of a tough one seeing as i like quite a few i've seen around and also my own, sort of, which is...

essentially, what i got was henry jekyll and edward hyde are both henry jekyll. one man, two bodies ; not two men, one body/head/mind, you get me? i don't exactly enjoy how media has turned them into a "split personality" symbol when that's not what the original story was about, and i also don't really enjoy how people try to write off henry as some sort of saint when he was simply going incognito mode by mixing a potion and disguising himself so he could try and just live life until it unfortunately took a turn for the worst

and with that said, i feel i must address that when it comes to the movies (although i absolutely love fredric march's performance as the doctor and mister hyde in the 1931 film) i really hate that most of them try to:

A. make him appear far younger and more innocent/naive than he is because come on, he's written as a large, fifty year old man who is a bit (well actually a lot) unhinged and selfish but knows how to act like he's not (and i love him for it)

B. have him be engaged to marry a woman (most times the daughter of sir danvers carew when that's the dude he literally murdered like huh???) when i'm a firm believer (as a bisexual nb man) in henry jekyll being someone who was forced to hide his sexuality because of the strict victorian society he lives in, so he just never marries and goes on about his life alone out of shame with a hint of fear

C. try to pass it off as some sort of intrusive thoughts or split personality thing because it's not either, and finally

D. don't add in utterson or hastie because!!! come on man, they were in the story too! and poole, and enfield because some of their dialogue made me giggle for no reason (in all honesty, i find a lot of the book very humorous but maybe that's just because i love the characters and feel a strong connection to the premise given personal reasons)

now, i do love hearing theories; one big example is utterson thinking hyde was some sort of secret lover or even more outrageous (a long lost son??!) who's planning to blackmail jekyll. it's really funny to me in a dark comedy sort of way because it's such a huge leap to make seeing as gabriel is one of his best friends, yet he came to that kind of conclusion so quickly after henry said edward hyde was someone of interest to him, but given the time period and the customs, it's not surprising to understand why he could be thinking that (plus i don't think jekyll running down the stairs after waking up as hyde in his hilariously oversized clothes or filling hyde's townhouse with expensive stuff made it any better)

why i hate parting ways

okay so i haven’t been in the fandom long but i feel a little suffocated by all the love and worship Parting Ways gets while i hate it with a passion.

this is all my opinion. im not saying people that love Parting Ways shouldnt, im just putting my 2 cents in to stop this spiral of silence thing we got going on and just air my thoughts out.

(warning: long and gets a little rant-y at the end)

im gonna start this off by saying i love all the other endings. for the most part i think they’re written very well (i do think Blood Brothers could’ve done with some tweaking tho) and i love them all for the themes and mix of bittersweetness they have. depending on your playthrough, they each feel right and that’s the reason why i struggle a lot choosing one i deem my personal canon. i really love them all.

but Parting Ways? is lodged down my throat like a stuck bone and here’s 2 of the main reasons why i hate it:

reason #1 -> it feels so out of character

most especially on Sean’s part

now as a choice based game, it’s hard to dive into characterizations sometimes bc a lot of personality traits are shaped by the choices you make. still, in LIS2 regardless if you play with Low Brotherhood or High, it is canon that Sean loves Daniel to the ends of the earth. out of the two, the only one that can potentially express overall hatred or dislike is Daniel. like, Sean’s immense love and devotion to his brother is what episode 4 is all about. that he will do whatever it takes as long as Daniel is safe, happy, and healthy and he won’t ever abandon him especially in a place that threatens him with avid danger.

but i guess that all goes out the window in episode 5 huh? :D

i’m gonna spread this into 2 deeper sections, starting with Sean’s decision to cross the border anyway.

now in a Redemption/Parting Ways playthrough, Sean has done nothing but teach Daniel to follow the law above all else. that stealing, hurting, and killing are inherently wrong. meaning, for example, this Sean likely wouldn’t have gone through with the episode 3 heist as it’s incredibly against his Lawful beliefs.

him switching gears at the end and wanting to force their way through the roadblock isn’t where my problem lies bc that’s entirely choice based. no, PW Sean forcing Daniel into life threatening danger is where i take issue and is where the first instance of ooc-ness takes place. it’s this dialogue right here where i started to go “what the fuck”:

Sean: Trust me, okay? Just… get us through. Hold on tight.

[Sean starts recklessly driving on]

Daniel: No! I don't wanna! I'm not hurting anyone else!

[Flores and the police open fire]

Sean: It's too late! They're shooting at us, Daniel! This is the only way!

[Daniel is forced to use his powers to clear their way]

to better explain, i wanna make a comparison to Lone Wolf ending. there’s an element of betrayal in both of these. in LW, it’s Sean going against the beliefs he’s taught Daniel, that family should come before the law, by suggesting they turn themselves in. and here in PW, it’s Sean also going against what he’s taught Daniel and saying fuck the rules. the biggest and most important difference is how he goes about these last minute changes.

in LW, Sean attempting to surrender is directly about him not wanting to put Daniel in harm’s way anymore. he wasn’t forcing Daniel to use his power, he wasn’t throwing Daniel in the line of fire, he was clearly suggesting they stand down so no one else got hurt, especially Daniel himself. this fits Sean’s character bc, like i said, one of his never-changing characteristics is that he loves and wants to protect Daniel regardless of your playthrough.

in PW, Sean flips into the exact opposite. and again, no i am not referring to him all of a sudden wanting to break the law. i am talking about his sudden disregard for Daniel’s safety. by Sean forcing them to drive through the roadblock, knowing good and well the only way they’ll survive is by Daniel protecting them, he’s purposely using Daniel as a human shield against his will. it’s horrifying but the most unsettling part imo is that it doesn’t fit Sean’s character at all.

up until this point, Sean has done nothing but try his hardest to keep Daniel from danger, and in PW it’s such a drastic flip it doesn’t make sense for Sean “i love you so much i am willing to walk through hell and even die if it means you’ll be safe” episode 4 Diaz to all of a sudden throw Daniel into the lion’s den himself.

i wanna connect this back to Lone Wolf again and explain why Daniel’s “we’re crossing anyway” mindset makes sense while Parting Ways Sean’s doesn’t. Daniel’s “its my turn to take care of us now” fits that Daniel’s character bc over the course of the game, this Lawless Daniel has proven several times he is willing to do whatever it takes to protect them, including things that are directly against Sean’s wishes.

in episode 3, if you try to stop the heist and Cassidy comes along, Daniel, who believes the heist is a good idea, will choke Cassidy bc he sees her as having poisoned Sean against him. Sean will scream for him to stop and Daniel at first won’t listen bc he thinks by hurting her, he’s helping them. the simple fact he even goes along with the heist regardless if Sean agrees or not is an example in and of itself.

and in episode 4, before Sean can even make a choice, Lawless Daniel will step forward and attempt to murder Lisbeth bc he thinks it’s the right thing to do. now if he continues is based on if you have High Brotherhood or not, but the fact he tried to do it at all KNOWING Sean might not agree is what i’m talking about. like here, look at this transcript of the scene. before you’re given the choice to dissuade or not, Daniel is already 100% prepared to fight Sean on this just in case he disapproves:

Daniel (to Lisbeth): This is your fault! Yours!

[Daniel uses his power on Lisbeth and begins to hinder her breathing]

Karen: Sean…

Sean: Wait, Daniel…

Daniel: She really did try to use me! And she hurt you! She's bad!

and THEN the player is given the choice to intervene or not after Daniel has already shown he’s prepared to argue if Sean doesn’t agree. and then, if Sean doesn’t agree and has Low Brotherhood, Daniel will straight up ignore Sean’s plea and continue to torture Lisbeth.

there’s a few other examples that show Daniel’s, uh “initiative”, but this is what i mean. playing with a Lawless Daniel, he has already shown time and time again that, even tho it’s rare, he is willing to do controversial things that Sean may directly oppose as long as he thinks the ends justify the means. and this is why Lone Wolf Daniel locking Sean’s door and forcing them through the barricade, while fucking terrifying, fits his character bc he’s done things similar to this several times before. but for Sean to do the same???? doesn’t fit at all.

this is not to say Sean hasn’t tried to force things too. in episode 3, if you disagree to the heist, Sean will try to pull Daniel with him in Merrill’s house. in episode 4, when Sean and Karen are confronting Lisbeth, Sean will try to pull Daniel with him then too. and these instances are both after Daniel has shown a clear lack of desire to leave. heck, you could even include Sean’s unyielding refusal to contact Karen even tho Daniel expressed more than once that that’s what he thinks they should do pre-ep4. but what stands out in these moments is the direction in which Sean tries to pull Daniel to. they are Sean specifically trying to force Daniel away from a situation/person he believes to be dangerous. not to them.

this is again why Lone Wolf makes sense where Parting Ways doesn’t. Sean throws the car keys out the window, putting his foot down and expressing that regardless of what Daniel wants, he will force them to surrender bc he believes it will protect them best. it’s him, again, trying to force Daniel in the direction he believes to be away from danger. but in Parting Ways, it’s Sean doing the exact opposite and forcing Daniel into danger, which doesn’t align with the Usual Ways™️ Sean has tried to force their situation at all.

like, the only time i can think of that may come “close” to Sean deliberately throwing Daniel in harm’s way is if you agree to the heist and tell Daniel to use his powers against Merrill. but even then, that’s hardly similar to what he does in Parting Ways for countless reasons. it’d be more of a parallel/type of foreshadowing if Sean forced a resistant Daniel to do the heist and then straight up shoved him towards Merrill’s shotgun and said “think fast!” when they get caught.

i’d also like to take this time to clarify why Sean’s willingness to use Daniel as a shield in Parting Ways is different from when he stays in the car in Blood Brothers.

for starters, Sean is not actively terrorizing Daniel in BB. even if Parting Ways Sean doesn’t see the tears falling down his little brother’s face as he drives the car, there is no way he doesn’t hear the revulsion and terror in Daniel’s voice as Daniel begs him to stop trying to make him hurt people. we have never seen a time when Sean knows his brother is horrified by what’s happening but keeps going anyway (unlike Lawless Daniel), so for Sean to do this at the most pivotal moment in their lives, feels abrupt and extremely out of character.

and alongside him not terrorizing Daniel in Blood Brothers, he’s also showing nothing but patience and complete trust. this parallels the first border scene when Daniel uses his power to tear open The Wall and Sean stands behind him with supportive hands on his shoulders. in Blood Brothers, it is again Sean, now in the car as to not distract him, essentially supporting his brother in what he’s going to do. to sum up, there is a huge difference in standing behind someone to use them as a human shield and standing behind someone in solidarity and support, and that’s the biggest difference between Parting Ways Sean vs Blood Brothers Sean.

the funny thing here is that all this? that i just wrote? is just about Sean forcing Daniel to act as a bullet sponge in the first place. i haven’t even started talking about the events when Daniel jumps out the car! hoo boy howdy!!

so now let’s talk about what happens after Daniel jumps out of the car. (and mind you, i’m still on reason 1! lmao!!)

after Daniel jumps out of the car, Sean keeps driving and Daniel gets arrested. was i gritting my teeth while typing that? yes. bc

FUCK. THAT.

now personally i can relate to Sean as an older sibling with a large age gap between me and my kid sister. obviously i have never been in the life threatening situations the Diaz brothers have. but if my little sister were to EVER be so completely repulsed and terrified of smthg i was trying to do, that she felt the only way she could be safe and happy was to ESCAPE my presence and FLING herself out of our car, you bet your ass i would do a 180 with a quickness. not to force her back in, but bc “damn i must be doing smthg monstrous and absolutely fucked up. lemme rethink my actions cause this clearly isn’t the move” and then discuss with her where i went wrong.

i do not know how Sean wasnt hit with instant shame, self loathing, and guilt to the point of damn immobilization after Daniel threw himself out of the car to escape him. the fact he just??? keeps driving disgusts me. a lot. and i hate that bc Sean is my favorite character in the whole game.

dude doesn’t even slow down!!! we don’t even get to see if he looks back or not! the only thing we see is that he keeps driving at full speed, leaving Daniel in the literal dust and i. hate. it.

a very popular defense for this that i’ve read around the interweb is that Sean not stopping/turning around is him “respecting and letting Daniel make his own decisions”.

this is…. a hysterically funny defense bc, on the same breath, a lot of the fandom agrees that Finn having that exact same mindset just 2 episodes ago was wholly fucked up.

bc let’s be real here, Daniel is ten. hes a child! there’s a huge difference between treating a kid with respect and as their own person versus treating a kid like an adult capable of making extremely life altering and drastic decisions. like?? like?????? (from what i’ve seen) most of the fandom agrees Finn saying Daniel is an “old soul” mature beyond his years is brain rot. and yet, that’s the excuse that gets used for Parting Ways Sean???? sorry but i call bullshit.

this is especially bewildering bc the events of the heist only happen a few months beforehand. it’s not like it’s been years, Daniel has become a teenager/young adult, and is a completely different person than he was in episode 3. it’s only been a few months. in the beginning of episode 5, while the boys are in Away, David motherfucking Madsen even points out that underneath it all, Daniel is still just a kid. regardless of your opinion on David, he is right in that.

now if you don’t think Finn’s “Daniel is older than he actually is” mindset is BS, then that’s fine and those that agree with it, i can see feeling less conflicted about Sean’s…. departure (fuck i’m trying so hard not to say abandonment whoops oh well)…. and apply it as being the same situation. i am just addressing that for those of us that heavily disagreed with Finn’s thought process (not the heist itself, simply his “Daniel is grown” pov), it is hypocritical to shame Finn for it and then go on and use it as a defense for Parting Ways Sean.

it just doesn’t feel like Sean is “respecting” Daniel’s wishes by continuing to drive without him, to me. respecting each other’s wishes is Daniel trusting in Sean’s decision to sacrifice himself in Redemption, or Sean trusting in Daniel to be able to physically and emotionally handle the roadblock in Blood Brothers. no, Sean leaving Daniel in the hands of the feds after just terrorizing the shit out of him feels like abandonment to me. which, as i said in the beginning of this post, seems way out of character bc of how much Sean cares for Daniel and his safety.

and this finally leads me to the 2nd reason as to why i hate Parting Ways.

reason #2 -> Daniel is forced to bear the full brunt of their actions alone

this one might be a tad bit confusing so lemme explain.

in PW, Daniel is the only Diaz left in the states. by him being the only one, almost all of america will focus their Diaz-hate on him and him alone and by staying in america he can do nothing but be aware of it.

The Case of The Diaz Brothers was one that gained a lot of media attention. whether it be the conspiracy bros from Stephen’s reddit thread, or activists protesting Esteban’s death, or the trail of news articles you can find throughout the journey that keep tabs on the chaos the boys leave in their wake. whatever episode, The Case of The Diaz Brothers is one the public has interest in. all corners of american society know of it in some way, from simple online traveling hippies like Brody all the way up to the damn FBI.

in Parting Ways, by Daniel staying in america, he would have to deal with the full force of media and government attention alone. he stays with the Reynolds, Chris becomes his bestie, but literally no one else in the world would be able to help shoulder that weight the same as Sean would have the potential to bc Sean was there (btw i’m absolutely not saying the Reynolds and Chris wouldn’t be good support systems, just that in comparison, Sean would likely be the most effective as him and Daniel were in it together).

i’m gonna compare this to what happens in Redemption. by Sean turning himself in and Daniel staying in the states, the brothers shoulder the weight of american perspective together. Sean goes to jail so no doubt most of the media would pin him as the mastermind. but that doesn’t mean there wouldn’t still be news outlets constantly badgering Daniel about everything that happened as well. and the same way there are people in the fandom that hate Daniel’s guts for the simple crime of being a 9/10 year old, no doubt there would be people in-universe all over the Life Is Strange interwebs that would accuse, blame, and send hate his way. like, there is just no way that, even with R!Sean taking most of the heat, that police-supporters, racists, and etc. wouldn’t still scramble to find ways to harass Daniel too.

but at least with Sean also in america, the spotlight would be split in two. like i was saying before, Sean still goes to fucking prison, so it can be argued that the consequences the Diaz brothers face would be like a 70/30 divide. but at least it wouldn’t be the damn 0/100 divide that happens if Daniel stays in america as the sole remaining Diaz, having to bear the full weight of a nation wide racist spotlight while Sean just gets a tan and sips piña coladas on the beach.

this is not to say that in the puerto lobos endings, america wouldn’t still hate them there too. but i imagine that since they’re in a whole different country, it’d be much easier to just go “bro change the channel” and click to a different tv station when it airs negativity about their case, than Daniel staying in america and possibly having to deal with racist harassment on his way to and inside school. and by living in beaver creek, a town that seems to be predominantly white and judgemental (the Reynolds, the marketplace dude who harassed Fnn and Cassidy), there is no way Daniel would just live in complete peace. and personally i just find that really unfair. the complete lack of consequence on Sean’s part and the full force of consequence on Daniel’s.

reason #2.1 -> and how tf does Sean survive???

this is a minor addition but one that came to mind while writing this post. one of the key elements in Lone Wolf and Blood Brothers is us seeing that the Diaz Brothers (or just Daniel) stay afloat amongst gang violence because of Daniel’s powers.

but??? how does Sean…. do that if he’s alone, wtf? did Sean even open the auto shop?? how is bro making a living??? all we get is a pic of an empty beach and a vague selfie????? hello?? confusion?????

BONUS:

(you can skip this section completely if you want. it’s just abt smthg i also wanna talk about but the main focus of this post are the 2 points i already discussed)

okay now that the disclaimer is out of the way, in this skippable Bonus Section i want to talk about another defense for this ending that i’ve seen constantly, that Daniel wanted to stay in america and never wanted to go to puerto lobos anyway.

and to that i say:

because what the fuck are y’all talking about????

“wanted to stay in america” my ass! you know what Daniel wanted? a HOME! what Daniel wanted most was security and acceptance. he didn’t give a fuck where he got it! this logic of Daniel never wanting to go to mexico is like saying Daniel never wanted to go to beaver creek because he liked the damn rickety shack they had in the woods and fans saying “well he wanted to stay there so he should’ve 🤷🏾‍♀️” even tho his health was declining. this logic is like saying since Daniel didn’t want to then leave beaver creek (a place he just didn’t wanna go to), even tho the police were literally on their asses, thinking Sean should’ve just left him behind to get arrested and held in police custody bc “well he wanted to stay there 😀”

the reason why Daniel keeps dreading every time theyre uprooted and forced to move isn’t bc he just Really Loves America™️, it’s bc of what those locations all have in common, the ep2 cabin, beaver creek, etc. its that Daniel thought they’d found a home. little dude couldn’t care less where it actually is, as long as their end goal is stability and a solid place to stay, that’s what he wants most.

and alongside this desire for stability is his very prominent fear of the unknown.

in episode 1, Daniel was extremely wary of them making camp on the trail and regardless of what you do, will have a nightmare while there.

later on after escaping the gas station and before finding Brody, Daniel will continue to show anxiety bc while it’s good theyre away from Hank, he’s still terrified as fuck bc he has no idea where Sean is leading them to.

in episode 2 when Sean first suggests going to the Reynolds, Daniel immediately expresses anxiety bc he’s never met them before.

in episode 4, hes even afraid of Karen at first! like!!!! this boy, who has been beating Sean over the head with how much he wants to see Karen, when she actually shows up, he keeps his distance.

and even without including the brainwashing, this reaction makes complete sense bc of how Daniel’s responded to the unknown before! pre-meeting, Daniel always referred to Karen as their mom. “mom” is an extremely generic title. he doesnt know Karen from a can of paint, but he knows that a “mom” is supposed to care about their children and be a parent. the familiarity of the mother role and simply missing what it was like to have a parent is what Daniel craved. but the uncertainty of Karen Reynolds? the unfamiliarity of the actual human being?? is what causes Daniel to hesitate in ep4. when Lisbeth urges him to go to her, Daniel even straight up says “I don’t know her” as explanation for his wariness.

i bring up all these examples to emphasize that Daniel is just really scared of the unknown. and that connects to mexico bc the reason why he expresses uncertainty whenever Sean mentions puerto lobos isn’t bc he just doesn’t vibe, it’s bc he doesn’t know anything about it. it’s not that he didn’t want to go to mexico, it’s that he wanted to go somewhere with the comfort of familiarity. a place he feels is stable and where they can actually make roots. it’s not puerto lobos itself that he’s against. just it’s strangeness.

like even Finn touches briefly on this.

Finn: Well, going to Mexico is the ultimate road trip.

(Optional Dialogue) Sean: Not to Daniel. He doesn't even want to go. At all. Instead, he wants to go to Arizona to see his mom... Fuck that.

Finn: It can be tough growing up not knowing your folks... He needs closure, that's all. Give him time. He'll follow you anywhere.

puerto lobos is such uncharted territory in Daniel’s mind that understandably what he chooses to cling onto instead are things he does know. he knows their mother is out there and, thanks to the letter, that she cares about them. and it makes sense based on his fear of the unknown that he’d take more comfort in what he knows of motherhood (“moms love their kids. the end.”) over the sheer confusion that is puerto lobos.

like what Daniel craves most is stability and what terrifies him most is uncertainty. and puerto lobos is nothing but uncertainty.

but uncertainty does NOT equal reluctance! like did people just forget Lone Wolf ending exists? that there’s legit an ending where if Sean refuses, Daniel will try to drag his ass to puerto lobos anyways???? and one of the biggest reasons he does this, and why again Lone Wolf makes sense, is bc LW Daniel was clearly more terrified of the uncertainty that came with Sean trying to surrender than the familiar promise of togetherness that came with making it to puerto lobos.

like those 2 things are all it is guys. Daniel’s desire for stability and his fear of the unknown. he wasn’t averse to mexico itself. Daniel just wants a place to call home, and whether that be in Beaver Creek or Mexico, he’ll be satisfied with either bc the location isn’t what matters. the comfort is. so this popular interpretation that Daniel just hates puerto lobos for some reason? sorry but that’s not for me.

CONCLUSION

okay i have run out of steam and have finally voiced my thoughts. this was kinda therapeutic tbh lol.

so as you can see i really don’t like Parting Ways. it feels 1) extremely out of character and 2) Daniel having to deal with all that shit alone just seems so incredibly unfair and 3) it confuses things bc if the boys could only stay afloat in puerto lobos bc of Daniel’s powers then how tf is Sean living the happy-go-lucky vacation life by himself?? and 4) i really don’t agree with the fan defenses for it i’ve seen, that Sean leaving Daniel behind is “freeing” somehow and that Daniel never liked puerto lobos in the first place. both reasonings i find to be just nuts.

honestly out of the reasons i’ve listed, the ooc-ness is definitely my biggest gripe. like, PW isn’t the first time we’ve seen a character behave in a way that wasn’t previously established, but the fact that Parting Ways’ most integral parts are where i find its ooc-ness, Sean terrorizing Daniel and then abandoning him to the cops, is one of the biggest reasons why i can’t overlook it and just vibe.

i think the only thing i like about Parting Ways is getting to see Chris again and that’s it. which is kinda useless bc we can just see Chris in Redemption ending…. so….. like the only thing Parting Ways does different that i guess is cool to some is seeing Sean’s love interest at the end, but personally i didn’t get attached to the romance in LIS2 so i don’t find their reunion that exciting.

so yeah, anyways. these are the reasons why i don’t like Parting Ways. sorry for the annoyingly long post, but if you read this far then thank you for bearing with me!! 😄

The team stood around in the large and finely decorated dining room of the Peterson’s home. They were waiting on a call from the unsub, as it was in his M.O. to do so. The daughter, Kelly, of James and Miranda, had been kidnapped. She was only seventeen, and as with most cases involving kidnapped children, time is of the essence.

Emily and JJ were comforting the parents in the nearby living room; they were both too distraught to pick up the phone when the unsub called. You were the unsub’s type, a younger, innocent-sounding girl. As the new agent trainee of the BAU, there were a lot of learning experiences for you to have. This was one of them. Hotch had so much faith in you that you could handle this case, even though it was one of the more emotional ones.

It would be a lie to try and say Aaron Hotchner didn't make a lasting first impression on you the first day you met him. You had to be interviewed by him to join the BAU. It was one of the most nerve-wracking days of your life

You took a shaky breath as you stepped out of the elevator, walking into the room you would soon learn to be was called the bullpen, where all the other agents sat. You could feel every pair of eyes in the room on you, piercing through your skin like needles. You moved your feet with care up the stairs so as to not trip, like it was your first time walking up a set of them.

Agent Aaron Hotchner’s office was only a couple paces away now. Sure, you've had interviews before, but this one was different. This interview would decide the fate of your career for the rest of your life. Not to mention you'd heard plenty about the man conducting it; he was stern, strict, not to be messed with. He was a fearless leader and wouldn't take anyone’s shit. You'd even heard once that a bullet was fired right past his head at gunpoint and he didn't even flinch. Your anxiety and nerves were riding higher than ever.

Your knuckles rapped softly on the wooden door. ”Come in.”, you heard his voice sound from inside. Your breath shook as you exhaled and your shaky hand turned the knob, pushing the door open into his office. It was minimally decorated, and that's an overstatement. He had only a few personal items on his desk; pictures of him and what you assumed to be his son. He had a huge smile on his face, holding the child in his arms. The boy wore a soccer jersey and a smile to rival his father’s.

Agent Hotchner stood to greet you. Immediately you were intimidated by his height and overall presence. His hand was huge compared to yours, and warm in a comforting way. He gave you a small smile while shaking your hand, which made you feel a little better. ”Please, have a seat.” He said, gesturing to one of the leather armchairs that sat in front of his desk. You did as you were told.

The rest of the interview went smoothly, other than of course your occasional slip-up and stutter. But Hotch, which he said you could call him, always comforted you and spoke in a low, soft, gentle tone. This was the last thing you expected from a man like him.

Ever since then, he's always been so kind and helpful to you. How could you not fall for a man like that? Oh did you fall, hard and fast. The whole team certainly knew, but you weren't sure he did. They are all profilers after all. Prentiss, Garcia and JJ would lovingly tease you about him and always asked if either of you had made a move yet.

The answer was always ’no’; he was your superior in many ways, and you weren't even on the team officially. Reid and Morgan acted like a mix between older brothers and guys that still wanted you but knew Hotch had your heart, so they didn't dare overstep any boundaries. Rossi of course was like your father, advising you to be careful but that he would certainly make sure Aaron would never be found again if he hurt you. You knew it was all jokingly...hopefully.

Aaron stood over you, along with Rossi, Morgan, and Reid in the room. You let out a small, shaky breath as you waited for the phone call that should be coming any minute. You felt Aaron’s hand rest softly on your shoulder. He didn't say anything, but the gesture meant a million words. ”You can do this, (Y/N). I'm right here.” You could almost hear him whispering it into your ear.

The phone rang. The room was silent; all eyes were on you. A shaky breath escaped your lips, and you turned to look up at Aaron. His light brown eyes searched your face, dark brows furrowed as he tried to read your mind. With his job, it was almost entirely possible. He gave you a small nod; you took that as a sign to pick up the phone. You gathered as much courage as you could and pressed the button to answer it.

”Mmm...Miranda, my compliments to the chef. She takes right after you, curves in all the right places except even juicer...” The distorted voice filled the room. You cleared your throat.

”This is Agent (Y/N) (Y/L/N) with the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI. Can Kelly come home, please?” You tried to sound as innocent as possible. Aaron’s hand squeezed your shoulder reassuringly, then his hand fell to his side. You had to speak in a way that would praise the unsub, say what he wanted to hear. He was a dominant sexual sadist; pleasing the unsub was the only way to get Kelly back to her family.

”And how old are you, young lady?” You cringed at the way he said it, but you kept your composure.

”25, sir.” He groaned at this.

”Sounds like a fair trade to me. Tell me (Y/N), what are you wearing?” Unbeknownst to you, Aaron was fuming. He hated hearing someone talk to you like that. He wanted so badly to intervene, tell the unsub to shut the hell up. But the case depended on this ruse.

”A white blouse. Your turn.” You yourself were starting to get angry. All you wanted was to help get this family back together, but it felt like you weren't getting anywhere.

”Nothing but a smile, darling.”

”Kelly’s mom and dad really miss her. Can she come home?” The innocent tone returned to your voice. A deep and distorted chuckle came from the other end of the line.

”No, no. I think I’ll keep her a little while longer. You should come and join us though. You sound like you'd be a lot of fun.”

Your blood was boiling, anger was clouding your mind. Tears were pushing against your water line, a few making it down your cheeks. You were biting your lip so hard you thought it might bleed. Word vomit was bubbling up inside you, and as bad as you wanted to control it, it all came spilling out.

”How could you do this to such a loving family, you sick fucking psychopath? What the hell is wrong with you, you freak? Can't you see the pain you've caused this family?” Even more tears spilled onto your face, and your fingernails dug into the palms of your hand, knuckles so white they envied the walls. The unsub scoffed from the other end, there was a scream heard, and then silence as the line went dead. Reid and Morgan looked at you with widened eyes. Rossi looked almost proud. You could see Hotch shaking his head in your peripheral vision, pinching the bridge of his nose. Your stomach sank. You knew you’d messed up, and it hurt you to know you probably let Hotch down. That was the last thing you ever wanted to do.

Garcia called Morgan’s phone, and he answered it quickly. “Hey, baby girl. Tell us you got something.” He immediately put her on speaker.

“I traced the call. I’m sending everyone the location.”

“Thanks, baby.” Morgan hung up the phone and shared a look with everyone in the room, including you. You saw Hotch motion them on out of the corner of your eye, but Morgan held his hand up at Hotch for some reason. You felt Hotch’s hand clasp your shoulder, and you looked up at him. His face was stern and hard like stone.

“I’m going to talk to you when we get back.” He said in a harsh tone, with a voice full of anger. You watched him hurry off out the door and heard the SUV’s sirens turn on and they all pulled away. You hadn’t even noticed Morgan didn’t follow the rest of the team out the door, not until he pulled a chair out from the table and flipped it to where his chest met the back of the chair. His arms folded over each other, resting on the chair. He sighed. You turned your head to look at him; with this motion, tears you didn’t even know had formed fell on to your cheeks.

“Morgan, I-“, your voice broke. You loved Aaron, all the stolen looks and little kind gestures. You didn’t care if it was inappropriate to say so, it was the truth. One thing you never wanted to do was disappoint him, but it seems you’ve done just that.

“(Y/L/N), it’s okay. Not everyone on this team is perfect, including Hotch. I know you’re not even on the team yet, but there’s no way he’s gonna let you go. Do you know why?” You didn’t answer; you figured he was going to tell you why anyway.

“Because you’re one of the most talented little profilers I’ve ever met.”, he continued. “You’re kind and smart and you’re damn good at this job. We’ve all made mistakes, but that doesn’t mean we’re not good at what we do. Garcia found the location of the call, they will find her. It’ll be okay, (Y/N).”

You sighed, wiping the tears from your cheeks. You wanted to believe that, but it wasn’t a guarantee. Morgan got up and motioned you to do the same. He pulled you into his strong arms, and it took every ounce of energy you had not to break down and start sobbing into his t-shirt. Your arms wrapped around his back and you squeezed his body.

“Thank you, Derek.” You muttered. He didn’t respond; his lips placed a quick kiss to the top of your head. He gave you a ride back to the police station, where the team would eventually end up. The family followed suit.

The unsub was caught and arrested. You heard a commotion coming from outside; it was the press, trying to get pictures and interviews from the team, per the usual. You looked up to see Aaron walking through the door with the rest of the team, with the unsub in handcuffs, pushing him towards a holding cell. The unsub looked over at you, did a once over of your body, and winked at you. Aaron noticed this and shoved him along a little more forcefully. The action made your heart flutter a little.

JJ went over to the family and told them their daughter was in the hospital and that she was going to be okay. They cried and hugged and thanked her. Hotch came back from disposing of the unsub to the local police, along with a couple of members of the team. “Great work guys. Wheels up in thirty.”, he told them. His eyes met yours, and he gestured with his head to one of the empty detective’s offices. You got up and followed him, watching your feet the whole way. Even when you went into the room and shut the door behind you, everything in the office seemed a lot more interesting than looking at Aaron. The blinds were shut and the room was dark, save for a desk lamp.

“(Y/L/N), the way you handled that phone call was unacceptable. The entire case could’ve been compromised and that girl could’ve died! What the hell were you thinking? I told you to stick to a script, tell the unsub what he wanted to hear. Was that not clear enough for you?” His voice rang out through the empty office, bouncing off the walls and coming back to hit you in the chest. You wouldn’t look at him. Your throat hurt, and tears fell on to your cheeks. You had one arm across your chest and the other propped up on it, fist under your chin.

“(Y/N), say something.” His tone seemed a bit softer now. His hand reached out to rest on your arm, but you shrugged him off. He sighed. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have yelled at you. I can’t be mad at you for getting emotional over this case, and this was a win for us anyway.” Your eyes finally met his.

His eyes were the soft, light brown that you loved. His lips were pressed into a thin line, apologetically you had to assume. You wanted to kiss him, but you knew that would be an overstep to your boundaries as a new agent trainee. His eyes flickered around your face, trying to read your emotions.

“Are you okay?” You nodded. He nodded back, in understanding. The tension in the air was so thick; you could hear your pulse in your ears and butterflies fought each other in your stomach. You were still looking at him, taking in every little detail of his face. He muttered for you to come here. You hesitated at first but stepped towards him. He pulled you into a hug, and you rested your head on his chest, taking in the moment along with a deep breath. He smelled almost like vanilla and something else you couldn’t quite put your finger on. His heart was pounding in his chest, which quite surprised you. You’d think he would be calm.

You pulled away from his chest, still in his arms. You could swear his eyes looked darker. Maybe it was his intoxicating smell or the fact that the room was spinning already, but you could’ve sworn he leaned into you. You copied his motion, lips only centimeters apart now. Blood rushed to your cheeks, making them feel hot. He closed the gap, kissing you gently. He pulled your body closer to his; you were now chest to chest. Your arms snaked up his chest and around his neck, pulling him closer to you.

TW I guess? Idk also kinda out of character/ not canon and basically just what I imagine happening in some AU type of thing idk oh and SPOILERs

(Edit: I just looked it over and damn it’s a lot lmao ups)

He’s intersex

He’s one of those skinny bitches that are obsessed with chubby/ big girls

Either bisexual or no label cuz he thinks everyone and everything can be hot

He also likes dad bods, doesn’t care about muscles but doesn’t mind them either

Would probably be into almost everything ( except piss and shit cuz that just screams infections, oh and also feet bc feet are disgusting)

Has hardcore/ violent s*x even tho he actually likes it soft and careful (but he doesn’t do it bc he feels like he doesn’t deserve care and love thanks to trauma)

Love/ hate relationship with shoto (goes from wanting to protect him to wanting to harm him)

He feels awful and disgusting for feeling that way tho

Might have some sort of DID like twice ( Touya being the child alter and Dabi being the persecuter/ protector) and Dabi was slowly being created as the years passed and where touya was losing control over himself and the situation he was in but Dabi ultimately manifested right after the incident in which touya almost burned himself to death (or in other words where touya „died“). So now Dabi is in control while touya is hidden away deep inside his mind

During the war arc, specifically after his revelation Dabi slowly starts losing it and touya ends up „breaking free“ and Dabi is then having kind of a fight with touya trying to keep him locked inside but fails

Dabi ends up being caught and his DID is starting to show

Depending on who talks to him he’s either acting like 13 year old touya or 24 year old Dabi

His mother and siblings get Touya, the police and other pro hero’s get Dabi while endeavor and hawks get both

Endeavor bc duh Touya got hurt by him and Dabi now wants revenge for what happened to Touya

Hawks bc he killed Twice who was one of the few ppl Dabi liked/ accepted and for working with him but also Touya bc Touya is hurt that hawks doesn’t understand him and sides with endeavor despite going through similar abuse hoping he’d have at least one person feeling his pain and anger

He has mixed feelings about his mother and sister

On one hand he missed his mother and understands her and doesn’t blame her but on the other he’s hurt that she didn’t try hard enough and just let him be on his own

Fuyumi bc she tries so hard to get endeavor to like her and is nice to him and forgave him and that makes Dabi/ Touya feel like she’s just dismissing his feelings and pain and what he went through but he also gets why she acts like this bc she was also neglected and only wishes to have a „normal“ family ( as normal as it gets at least)

Dabi does feel awful about the fact that ending almost killed natsuo bc that wasn’t his intention at all. He wanted to get at his father and not the only person that has ever been there for him

He still loves natsuo a lot even if it’s hard for him to show it like ppl normally would

Dabi has lost sense of taste and smell bc of overusing his fire

Probably developed asthma at one point

I feel like he once randomly coughed up a piece of his lung and just stared at it for like 10 seconds before kicking it

His stamina used to be okay-ish but now it’s just shit and he’s only able to burn and do all that crazy shit bc of adrenaline and drugs

He only let hawks top him bc his stamina kept decreasing and he was also sick of getting accidentally whacked by hawks wings during freaky deaky time

(I hate hawks now but I’m still a sucker for dabihawks omg I hate it but I can’t get enough of it 😩)

Has some sort of father/son suga Daddy/suga baby relationship with Giran

Lives of daddy’s money (wether it’s Girans or his actual dads money idk lmao probably both but endeavor doesnt realize it cuz shoto and Dabi buy similar shit or just draw money out of an atm if it’s something that shouldn’t be known by endeavor)

Dabi is into consent and protection and no one can tell me otherwise

He cannot risk getting an infection or any stds

Might drop dead one day from organ failure

He hates hawks interior decor and burned half of it

Touya is usually locked away but there were a few moments where he came out and those always involved a butterfly bc Touya loved butterflies

Dabis fav animals are butterflies

Calls hawks birdshit

Hes overly dramatic for No reason

Probably did it with almost the whole league except for shiggy (he’s too crusty) spinner (reminds him too much of ninja turtles) and toga (she’s a minor). At first he didn’t wanna do it with twice bc twice kept contradicting himself and that confused Dabi and he didn’t know wether twice was actually comfortable or even wanted it to begin with. It got better after a while tho

Burns abusers, rapists, pedophiles and molestors on the spot bc they hit a certain nerve inside of him

Gets made fun of by the leaugue for getting knocked out almost every time

He likes slushees and always buys himself one at exact 2:38 am in the morning

Giran was the one who found him after he burned himself and got taken in by him

First two years after the incident everything is a blur in his memory and he doesn’t know what exactly happened there (either from drugs to relieve the pain or Girans quirk)

Dissociates a lot

Sometimes it gets so bad he physically needs to be slapped hard to come back to reality
