Ive come to the realization that the reason theres a small but loud group of people who are showing nothing but hate for the rwrb movie is because they have completely unrealistic expectations. People are forgetting that this is a cheesy romantic comedy, thats supposed to look and feel like a cheesy romantic comedy. This isnt going to be moonlight or gods own country or some other critically acclaimed, oscar nomintaed queer film that makes straight people go "hmm maybe they do deserve rights and respect🤷‍♀️"

Its gonna be a cheesy adult romantic comedy, thats gonna be a bit camp and over the top and thats exactly why its so good. I dont want to think about every gay movie I watch. I want to watch it and see two queer people fall in love and thats it. Thats how deep it goes. Maybe a sprinkling of politcal commentary in between.

There is this issue thats become bigger and bigger every passing year, that people expect every bit of queer representation to be the best thing ever. There can not ever be anything cringey or different or silly, and if it is then they send endless hate towards it, and in an industry that already hates to show queer people on screen, its this viscious cycle of someone finally being greenlit to make queer media, the media gets endless hate for not being perfect, the studio cancels the queer media before giving it a chance because theyve just 'proven that it wont make money', suddenly everyone is saying 'why do they keep canceling queer media😢', cycle repeats.

Im so over it. Let gay people be slightly cringy or cheesy or campy. Let queer media exist without putting it on this huge pedestal. Just enjoy things! And if you dont, dont watch it! Move on, find something better to do.

I want light-hearted rom coms about queer adults just being queer adults and havig fun. I want comedy adventures where the characters just happen to be gay. I want more horror where at the end the final girl kisses a girl and can't belive they lived but not because they're gay. (suprisingly several of these exist and I love it)

I don't always want to think about the plight and horrors of being queer today with every queer movie I watch.

Sometimes, yes of course, I want to be seen on that level.

(Nimona, which came this weekend is a perfect example of a queer movie where I felt very very seen but also had a good time and was an incredibly silly fantasy adventure movie. But, still had the queer expereince intertwined.)

I'm looking forward to a movie that will be 90% rom com, and 10% realism/heavyness. re: being outed is a real thing that happens to people. famous people.

Alex and Henry go through some heavy shit. There's seriously traumatizing stuff at the end of the book. They're both dealing with mental illnesses, complex families, and rock-or-a-hard-place situations. I want all of that honored.

And, at the same time, I'm expecting a straight-to-streaming, mid-budget, movie that had to pass through a LOT of straight hands and board meetings to get to us.

Not to say we should love and accept every queer movie that comes out automatically, they have been done wrong in the past. (example: I skipped call me by your name bc the age gap still makes me too uncomfortable to watch)

But we have to give queer movies a chance to fit the genre they were made for, the tone they are made to be, and give queer creators a chance to show they are us annd they know us. The director is Bi. He's spent so much time going on about how much he related to Alex that he needed to make this movie. It's his first directing role, and I'm giving him a chance.

im taking this and literally translating it to my own experience. this is risky, but i need people to realize in the fandom, that some of you are insensitive. sure, sparklecare isnt super realistic with the representation, but its still a process.

in my experience, i have always known i was trans. i knew since i was VERY young. but guess what! i was still scared to come out. there were large support systems! but i was still scared. my teachers were openly supportive or trans and queer kids! i was still scared. i had several trans and queer friends who were open about it! I WAS STILL SCARED. it isnt easy, at all. i didnt come out til middle of freshman year in highschool. even then, i was still exploring myself and trying to be comfortable with myself. i still am! it takes a LONG TIME to be comfortable and feel supported and KNOW youll be supported when you come out.

it does NOT matter if uni was 10, if uni was 17, if uni was 25, her current age, or even 40. it takes a long time. even if theres tons of trans people shes surrounded by, even if shes already open about being queer, it doesnt fucking matter.

sparklecare and cometcare representation isnt the best, but you have to realize even if this is a fantasy comic in a fantasy world, these characters are in a real world situation. in real world type traumas. in real world type settings. they may be furry creatures not very dimilar to us humans, but they operate the same as us. we process the same. get it through your fucking head that it doesnt matter how diverse a place is, that people will still struggle and feel alone before being open about literally ANYTHING ever.

With Monika I think one thing I always remember with her is that she’s very good at saying stuff she doesn’t seem fully believe. A lot of her act 3 discussions is her acting as if she doesn’t care, that she doesn’t feel guilt, that she truly thinks the others don’t matter. But we know that just isn’t the case. If she never cared then why would she have a protein bar, why didn’t she just delete them all immediately, why did she still have them tucked away? She wants to seem like she’s this all in control mastermind but she just… isn’t. She’s doing so much to try and relate with us but no matter what there’s the part of her that cares that she simply can’t get rid of. She can make her hanging joke, but it’s mostly for us and partially to convince herself. “Oh the player probably doesn’t care, I shouldn’t either, why should I care, the player don’t think they’re real and well they aren’t, but I am.”

For me I rarely call her a full asshole not because what I think she did was right (she fucked up), but because I can constantly see her contradicting herself no matter how hard she tries to be other wise. To me, especially in side stories, Monika wants to SEEM like she’s perfect but she knows in her heart of hearts that she isn’t, that she isn’t capable, that she will never be perfect. But damn it, she has to be. Or else then no one would care about her. Monika definitely seems like she has an ego but it honestly feels so performative for me, especially when in side stories she spends so much time self flagellating herself and her issues as “silly” or “stupid”.

That’s a lot of text and idk if it’s coherent, basically yeah I just think base game Monika tries super hard to seem like some sort of uncaring bad bitch but she isn’t as much as she tries to be. In side stories she’s coming from a good place and in base game it’s a desperate place. Theres a bit of malice there, but it’s not completely her motivator.

And yeah I agree that she wouldn’t automatically become a better person, she’s got a long way. But the first step is to acknowledge the fuck up and that’s what she does after being deleted and being pissy for a bit. And also above all the stuff about her previous guilt that is subtly shown throughout act 3. God she especially realizes some shit after seeing Sayori be in her same position. So in a post game story, she knows she cares about the others and feels guilt. How does she fix it tho? Definitely agree on the self sabotage part, considering Monika doesn’t even let herself be reinstalled in act 4. Her worse enemy is herself. And how can she realize that if no one is able to call her out? Certainly not herself if she thinks it’s the “right thing” to do. It’s all very fascinating and tragic really. But shows how important it is to have other people who are equals to you and can call you out or talk to you, which side stories Monika has in abundance.

Monika is a gaslighting queen, even if the person who she is gaslighting is herself lmao. She is definitely not a mastermind, or prefect, even though she wants to appear this way. And she is also not dumb, she knows this. But she keeps trying to convince herself otherwise. I've made a post in the past talking about how obvious her denial is in act 3, and i dont think i need to explain it either, if you play the game and listen to her dialogue its like hilariously and embarrassingly easy to see. There is a slight resentment present for the girls in base game, but its also very apparent that she cares a lot for them even as she tries to convince herself she doesn't.

I wouldn't exactly call her an asshole either, more like... a person who can be sort of shitty sometimes. As for her ego, I do think she truly believes she knows best, and she will follow through with her plans initially without taking into consideration the others, but after she starts second guessing herself quite a lot. Her ego is very contradictory if that makes sense idk

That part about Monika being her worst enemy sums it up pretty well I'd say

oh that's an interesting question! while I think canon gives us evidence that aventurine has complex feelings about his eyes in relation to them being an incredibly visible avgin/sigonian trait (and thus a trait that provokes racial violence), I also don't think canon gives evidence that he would want to actually get rid of them. otherwise it would be exceptionally easy for him to hide them or even swap them out entirely for new eyes with the way that science fiction tech works lol. so this is the background assumption for the rest of my thoughts here: he feels complicated about his eyes, but he still wants to keep them.

now, the rest of this answer admittedly involves a lot of projection, but I do think aventurine likely feels attached to his eyes because they are a marker of his clan, and I think that is why he would feel very sentimental about passing his eyes on to his child - it would be a very visible indication that the avgin clan has survived despite the persecution they have had to endure.

I do think he would be terrified about his child being visibly avgin (out of concern for their safety), but only in the way that any person of colour in real life, when living in a country that may violently target people who look like them, would feel scared for their child. but even if you are scared for your child, it doesn't mean that you are horrified by the idea of them having your ethnic features. on the contrary, many people who've faced discrimination for their features tend to resist by establishing a certain pride in them. I like to think that's why aventurine never hides his eyes, and I also like to think that's why he would feel very fondly about his child inheriting his eyes.

dont worry anon, i had the exact same reaction at first. after caitis first stream i was so angry and devastated, i also wanted him kicked out of the dteam house or for some kind of consequence to happen. but then he responded and i realized that oh, that wasnt at all close to what happened that night.

and also something i think about a lot now is when brittany simons said something like "theres friends who i love, i will be the first to call the police on you but i'll visit you in prison every single day". and yeah, real relationships are not so black and white. us as outsiders can drop ccs easily, we do not know them! but their actual friends who have been around for years will not be able to cut them off so easily. people have complicated relationships with each other and someone can slight you and youll still be hesitant to completely cut them off simply because you had good memories with them and years worth of bonding. idk its been on my mind since punz has started sticking around. dont get me wrong, i think hes a shit friend and dteam/sapnap deserve better but also theyve known him for years even before content creation. i can understand why its difficult to just cut him off like that. obviously none of us will have nearly as much issue dropping him considering that we dont know him and we dont have that bond that dteam have with him.

we told one of our friends (who in all honesty i dont like very much in general) that we are a system and they basically haven’t texted first since then, and when we do text she always responds days later or just responds with a quick message. she did this before to some extent but never this much, and directly after we told her too. We told her over the phone and she straight up said that she doesn’t believe us because of “the amount of fakers” and like :/

dude, we trusted you enough to tell you something we literally haven’t confided in anyone else with and you say (without much knowledge of what did even is besides “funny people in your head”) that you dont think we are really a system. Like bro?? We spent like 5 minutes explaining the very very basics of what a system is and you immediately tell us we are faking??? we trusted you, she trusted you. Fuck her honesty, im so done pretending that she was a good friend, some people still like her, but talking to her does nothing but make us feel like shit. She also just belittles us all the time and is constantly complaining whenever we talk about something that she inst interested in, especially whatever our collective hyperfixation is at the time. Im pretty sure she’s only friends with us to complain about everyone else, now that im listing it all im realizing just how long she was like this.

Rei exposes muu’s cycle of abandoning her friends when they stop being useful, but the way i looked at it, i always thought it wouldve been clear upfront to muu’s friends what kind of person she is? i have difficulty fully getting that aspect that her friends betrayed her out of sudden mistrust born from rei exposing muu’s toxic behavior, when most of what we’ve seen of muu’s friends, they’ve been involved in bullying rei as well- i was assuming theyve already witnessed muu’s toxicity and betrayal against her friends. it confused me how rei suddenly would have flipped the hourglass and suddenly ‘exposed’ that when i thought muu’s friends were already aware of that behaviour and fine with it. which is why i feel like another reason would’ve been a large factor, such as muu being outed for being a lesbian. the thing about muu's friends is that they werent as "close" as muu thinks they were! i think muu sort of says it herself somewhere but i dont remember where- but its very likely the only reason they "clung" to her is because muu is rich, muu gave them things.

whatever emotional attachment muu had to them wasn't reciprocated. her being their "queen" was probably at least slightly just in muu's own head.

theres also an interesting theory out there that the reason they ditched muu so fast could be because muu isnt ACTUALLY rich, and that shes just pretending to be. once she lost that symbol of status and her friends realised that the things she gave to them weren't actually of value, they lost interest in her. i think that theory's rly fun! but i see too much of a spoiled rich girl in muu to see that 100%. its an interesting one tho and would definitely explain some things i state here even more so! anyways.

its entirely possible that muu's "friends" weren't even aware of the cycle/behaviours muu was committed to. people get stuck with toxic people all the time and dont "notice". i think that when rei flipped the hourglass they became aware of how easily muu could throw them aside- which means they'd no longer be benefiting from muu's wealth. theyre just "using" muu, like muu "uses" haruka and those she shattered for not being able to "feed" her. she has no actual worth to her "friends" beyond giving them material objects. turning on muu so quickly wouldve been easy to them.

i assume the three girls we see her with in INMF in the bug zone dancing over the shattered pieces are the same as the girls we see in reality right afterwards- which means if muu had ever "shattered" them, she'd realise that they're "fake" as well.

if they WERE aware of muu's cycle/toxicity, they were "fine" with muu's behaviour because they were profiting off her- or were even being willfully ignorant of her actions.

Hey! Im a recent anon and I wanted to react to what youve been discussing with the anon who agrees with you. Personally, Ive had phases about what I believe about Rhett and Link and the nature of their relationship. I have found the idea of these two attractive, weird, charismatic, creative men being into each other quite appealing, but I dont think Ive ever truly believed it without the help of fan speculation and overinterpretation of giffed moments. Especially after the reveal about their religious background… Without the fan content to feed the nice fantasy, I go back to the presented reality of their unique, brotherly friendship. You believe something that is extreme, even within a tumblr fandom that fixates on the idea of them as a couple. You do you, I dont even have to tell you that! What I find frustrating, just for me, is that I can’t easily refute your view. But I really do believe, without much doubt, that theres nothing between them, like they’ve repeatedly said, and, moreover, that theyre just not physically attracted to each other, despite the moments that may be interpreted as flirting (or… as mind-in-the-gutter banter, you know!). The one thing that I could concede is that, if there is any kind of sexual tension between them, it’s mostly subconscious or repressed, and they don’t want to explore that and only feel comfortable with their current, deep, but platonic friendship. I think that your interpretations, the ‘signs’ you notice in their videos, while beautifully packed with meaning, are not necessarily there. But once again, I can’t really prove it to you, and I find that frustrating. It’s about what feels like a plausible conclusion, an ‘inference to the best explanation’ as philosophers would say. My current opinion is a conventional one, but certainly not within the tumblr fandom, which is full of people that seem to at least believe that there’s something there even if not acted upon. This is what I think is happening, and Im not going to judge, because as I said, the fantasy is really nice. As for the overarching themes and methaphors you have identified in their scripted content… I think alternative interpretations are definitely possible. The digging a hole video, for example, might be about collaborative endeavors in general, about the dramatic structure that is still exciting without normal dramatic content, about the joy of absurdist concepts and doing things just to do them, together… not the specific situation you imagined about them wanting to come out of the closet eventually, and navigating their relationship. I have to say, I was impressed and entertained by your interpretation of their puzzle video. I also think that there’s a lot of basic ‘if our characters did this somewhat suggestive or odd thing this would be funny’ reasons behind their scripted content… and not necessarily the cohesive story about viagra that you believe has happened to them. I think that sadly, they might be more boring or random than what you give them credit for, as far as cleverly hidden messages go. But yeah, I dont know how we could definitely know who’s right about this... If they never come out as you suspect they are planning to, if they stand by their no-homo claims, would you give up on your theory, or do you think there’s a chance that, in your worldview, they might never ‘fully come clean’, rendering both our theories basically impossible to prove or disprove? What do you expect from the TV show they’re going to release, for example (sorry if you already shared that before)?

Hello, thank you for analysing your different perspective in a polite way. I have been having a lot in my mind these days and I delayed answering. I was about to explain why I support some things regarding the videos and the puzzle video but somehow in this crazy world I didn’t answer before the brolinoscopy episode and I feel like R&L answered for me before me in this video!

After 9 years, Rhett brought up the reference by saying “you can even find missing puzzle pieces inside rectums”. It’s not even the first time they suddenly bring up the puzzle video after a silence nearly a decade long. Link as Sandy had a small puzzle tattoo in the Brown Diamond too. But today’s insinuation was so much more straightforward. As you understand, after this development, I am once more convinced I cannot find a more suitable explanation than the one I had in the puzzle post (the viagra thing might be a stretch or made up story by them but I stand by all the main and crucial points I made there). And that reference is generally nothing compared to all the things Rhett (also Link) said (supposedly I guess, but wild if true) incoherently in the brolinoscopy.

However, I do not intend to make an analysis here, neither do I plan to try to convince you, I am kinda over that in general and I don’t want to push something down the throats of people who find it unlikely or uncomfortable. I have figured out some people consider me extreme and… it doesn’t resonate well with me. If I am proven correct, will I have been extreme then all this time? Of course I will definitely keep doing my own thing in my original posts but I don’t want to try to change anyone’s mind anymore. Therefore I am curious - you said it is frustrating that you can’t refute me. Is this about me (I don’t think I matter, I am just an anonymous randomer blabbing potential nonsense) or is it about the possibility of Rhett and Link truly being more than friends? Or is it just because you are so convinced you are right that it would be frustrating to be proven wrong? I would understand that last sentiment (I am often the same way), less so if it’s a case of any of the former two scenarios though.

The only thing I want to stress again is that for me all my ships have started as an observation and then some became a pleasant fantasy. I have never liked a ship because I liked the idea of it first and then tried to force it into my reasoning and conclusions. It has always been the opposite with me - I see cues I consider very clearly there and then I decide whether I like that ship or not. Which is why I never liked fanon ships. Save for the Sherlock fiasco, I have a record of 100% canon ships and 0% fanon or slash. In fact, I almost have a personal aversion to them, idk why. As for Sherlock, the entire fanbase was essentially proven wrong and it wasn’t that we were all wrong but that apparently something happened and bombed this show and they wrapped up one season earlier than intended with enstranged actors . Still, many many fans were sure there was no case the show could end like it did and waited for another season. Not me. I realised the plot and show was bombed for good and I was done with it very quickly. I was proven right. I am saying all this only to explain that this “aw it’s a nice fantasy I am having so now I am misinterpreting gifs” is not representing me accurately. I was perfectly happy with Rhett and Link as platonic friends and I would be very happy with this image in my mind forever. I value deep friendship and, you know, being loyal to your spouse extremely. It’s just that it’s been quite a few years this is not the image I am getting from them at all. Of course I could be wrong but even if I am, it’s not because I try to make my fantasies reality out of nowhere.

I agree many people misinterpret gifs. There are gifs and gifs though. And some leave very little room for misinterpretation.

Regarding your question, I do doubt from time to time that they will get on with it. But then shit like today’s happens. There is always the chance that they will get scared for good before the end. But since November-December, I think something has shifted inside Rhett and he has made his decisions. But who knows. I definitely think there is a possibility they never come out, not even in the show they prepare, and keep hiding forever but I consider it a very very very small possibility. I could also eventually give up on my theory but for this to happen, there’s a shitload of undoing they would have to do first!

i dont know honestly,, i was just thinking about how theres multiple instances of tashiro asking romance related questions to his friends to understand it better, only to get more confused at the explanation. if hanzawa to tashiro ever become real, it probably would have quite a different tone than the other two thanks to our main characters

Heres what i assumed about the group. I think the pogues met because john b was friends with JJ natrually growing up, pope probably lived nearby since he "was a pogue just like the rest of us".

Kie was there because "shes not like other girls" and she couldn't get along with anybody at her school which kind of proves something about her......just saying.

Sarah got in through falling for John B and she wanted to live outside the bubble wrap she was in her whole life and she was afraid she could never get out of it, she saw john b as a gateway into a more flowy future of teenage fun.

I think she regretted being a pogue at one time because of all the shit that happened from it. Would sarah be the same person if she didnt be with the pogues?

I think JJ's mom left when he was really little so i think thats why they dont put any backstory on it because he might have just been too young to remember much and theres not much emotion there on JJ's side, and since luke is an abusive asshole, no one is really going to be interested in hearing what he has to say about it regarding his wife.

I think the point of it all is that they basically have all fucked up families which makes them need the pogues more as their family.

I agree with the friendship point! Except sarah and john b, and pope and cleo are my favorite ships.

They have to provide romance in the scene because its what keeps the viewers attracted.
