Hey Tumblr!
It's me. Listen.
I've been pretty ambivalent about the changes you've been making. I get the need for reform to drive up engagement and stay competitive, and I'm pleased that you seem to be trying to strike some sort of balance, however much flack you might be getting for things.
But this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS IS NOT OKAY.
I've paid for ad-free. Allowing a company to bypass that by blazing their ad - and it is an ad, complete with an attempt to draw from their competition with a "limited offer", not a simple information post or anything else - is not just uncool it's straight-up dishonest. You're double-dipping. You're charging me to not see ads, and then charging a company - not an individual or artist or anything else, but a purely profit-driven company - to get around that.
Not cool tumblr, not cool.
I'll be filing a support ticket next time I'm on desktop, because 🖕 this.

or five times you attempted to pet tighnari's ears and the one time he let you
tighnari x gn! reader rated: t wc: 9k+
a/n: i swear i'm not a genshin writer. every now and again one just really hits me and won't leave me alone. i'm shaking at the prospect of meeting cyno.

when you had taken up the life of a very luxurious forest ranger, you hadn’t done so with any grand goal in mind. growing up you’d never been enticed by the prestige of the akademiya. the too tight robes warded off any appeal of unlimited knowledge.
you weren’t much of a haggler either, so market trading had never been much of an option. to be honest, in most cases you couldn't be bothered and would give away something for free if it meant getting the person out of your face.
maybe as a child you’d dreamed of theatre. promises of dancing in front of a crowd. or performing a sincere song of gratitude in honour of your generous archon. but there was a reason why only the children of sumeru dreamt. because it saved you the reality of embarrassment.
ultimately it made sense for you to be a forest ranger. you were blessed with a vision and had the aptitude for conflict when needed. you didn't mind being outside. sumeru was a beautiful land of bountiful vegetation and fauna. you were proud to be part of the force protecting it.
so naturally, you were destined to join their ranks. you would fit in splendidly as long as you followed the basic code of conduct.
the rules were simple:
execute every possible strategy to ensure the safety of the public
do not engage in any withering zone excavation without first reporting it
do not under any circumstances attempt to touch master tighnari’s ears.
you believed that honour should be given where it was due, and tighnari certainly earned a bulk of it in sumeru. he was as tenacious in his research as he was in his determination to cull the withering.
it was admirable. unquestionably gave his subordinates something to look up to. it helped that he made an easy guy to work for. tighnari was an abundance of knowledge, never failing to deliver relevant facts about any form of botany in sight.
during your initial interview he completely sidetracked himself from testing your competency in favour of dumping the equivalent of a knowledge capsule on the entire forest on you. and during the whole time all you could think was how cute.
those fluffy, distractingly soft ears he had that twitched with every emotion. you noticed that sometimes they swayed unprompted, as if they had a mind of their own. the man himself seemed oblivious to your obsession, or just so immune to the attention at this point that it hardly phased him.
it was a shame really.
because by the time he realised you were out of your seat, he had a split second to snatch your offending hand before your fingers to reach the fur. the utterly adorable culprits seemed to tease your failure, flickering invitingly just out of reach of your wiggling fingers.
at least you had enough integrity to smile in the face of defeat as your future boss leered at you unimpressed.
he spent the remainder of your now orientation laminating over the very extensive punishment policy to be expected of any broken infractions.
2
it was safe to say the threat of punishment didn’t weigh too heavily on your consciousness. what you did learn, was everything more the life of a ranger had to offer. it wasn’t as though you belittled it to a simple forest guide. you were well aware of how each and every one of your colleagues put their life on the line to protect the gifts from the first of the dendro goddess.
but you never expected your contribution to feel so satisfying.
every day your body got stronger, gaining the resilience and stamina to endure long treks through the forest. you became more in tune with your vision, able to protect not only yourself but others from harm. unexpectedly, tighnari’s long winded tangents began sounding more appealing as you absorbed the information rather than repel it.
with each passing day you grew into the role of a proper forest ranger.
though there was one thing you hadn’t grown out of.
“you two will be assigned with me. we’ll patrol the southeast canopy.”
tighnari was always so serious when delegating assignments. archon’s bless him. given it was a momentous occasion as it was imperative to understand everyone’s role so that their was a fair opportunity to return home safe and sound.
it was just he way his ears followed each command. the adorable quiver not at all equivalent to his resolute voice. even after over a year under his command, it was still so distracting. to be fair, you’d learned to control your urges. after the second attempt and a week of making sure the long row of lamps remained glowing, you had at least accepted the pressing issue of testing his patience.
your respect didn’t go unrewarded either. over time, you learned that under those cute ears was a very interesting man. you always knew he valued his time in the forest and that the publications were not just for show like some of the akademiya graduates. but to witness his unfiltered passion for the forest was … kind of refreshing.
it made for genuine conversations that allowed you to feed off one another. while you’d never quite match his never ending knowledge for botany, you accompanied it well with your growing love for fauna.
in short, tighnari had become an unexpected friend.
with very endearing ears that you still felt the urge to touch after many, many months of barely held restraint.
it was admirable.
worth the gained friendship.
and yet.
collei’s shoulder knocked comfortably into yours as she hopped with glee. her joy made her unaware to the sharp gazes watching her exuberant movements for any signs of fatigue. being around collei had eventually led you to believe that something was different about her.
as a fellow trainee for a time, the two of you had grown close enough for her to feel secure in delving into more of her past. her illness wasn’t necessarily rare but it wasn’t often you met many affected with as much optimism as she had.
there was no doubt she had bouts of pain. sometimes you would cover her patrols to give her extra days of rest. tighnari was the most observant, always knowing when she needed a break. still the girl was a refreshing take on life in these darkening days.
it helped that you both shared a fixation with a certain pair of furry ears.
whereas she was more timid in her appreciation, you had yet to shed your bold approach.
well, maybe you got a little smarter.
“but i already know about the sweetwater mushrooms,” collei whispered back, confusion staining her voice. there were times like this that her charmingness rivalled tighnari.
you resisted the urge to pat the crown of her head.
you all knew about the infamous fungi. upon its discover, tighnari had spent nearly a month after submitting his entry into the new rainforest guide speaking all about its elements; to anyone or anything regardless how responsive.
if it was a botanical topic the fox found it hard to resist engaging.
leaning closer, you kept a close eye on the leading man.” i know you do but tighnari always has something more to say. i just need you to ask him about it.” you refrained from using the word distract.
collei’s ability to lie wasn’t a favourable skill. more often than not she caved in on herself before being able to spin a convincing tail. you’d learned fairly quickly the first time you convinced her to test a new route. the two of you hadn’t found any trouble but the slight delay in return roused a few questions. and of course tighnari had been the investigator. she never had a winning chance.
“i still don’t get why i have to ask.”
“because i need an opening to try to touch his ears.”
the sharp gasp she left out was enough to shatter the gossip bubble as tighnari turned with a suspicious frown. his gaze fell heavily on you as the culprit.
“what are you two muttering about?”
laughing sheepishly, your hip checked subtly against the younger girl’s as you took the lead. “just about the dusk birds. their mating season is approaching.”
tighnari raised a brow, but didn’t question further. one of the ways you’d managed to bond with collei had been over the observation of the bird hatchlings. they were one of the safer offsprings you were allowed to track in your earlier days, making you very familiar with their nesting grounds. it was one of the few areas he allowed you both to wander together without supervision.
“uh huh, well unfortunately i doubt we’ll get many sightings this low. please try to stay vilgint for any threats.”
tighnari rolled his eyes at your comical salute but was unable to hide his small grin. it only fed into your wider one.
good. he was in an amicable mood today. you’d both need it.
collei managed to remain cool headed despite your hanging plan as the three of you ventured through the more worn paths. travellers and students alike tended to frequent these parts, fending off most wildlife who didn’t want to be bothered. it was mostly flora that flourished, taking up any available space.
the perfect conversation starter.
the green haired trainee squeaked when you cleared your throat and nudged her softly. the noise caused a flicker to tighnari’s ear but he otherwise left the two of you to your devices as he examined the population of fungi.
your gaze darted to the seemingly preoccupied man and back, to which collei gulped but carefully approached. “um, master tighnari. do you mind going over the procedure for warning travellers about fungi again? sometimes i stumble with the more insistent ones.”
you could hear a bit of truth bleed into the ploy. it was certainly convincing enough as tighnari gestured for her to come to closer as he plucked a few samples. “certainly! it’s always good to familiarise yourself. sometimes they can get a little tricky. like this one, the bell-shaped and conical caps can often confuse people. you have to really pay attention to the arch…”
archons bless him, it didn’t really take much.
tighnari’s eyes darted briefly to you as you settled near them. his body turned to welcome you into the discussion, but he otherwise continued his deep analysis of proper measurements of cap width. the fleeting eye contact was enough for you to witness the undeniable brightness as he conversed.
as much as you liked to tease him, the jest hardly had any weight when the man was as serious about his research. he often responded with a chide about the importance of understanding and how it promoted coexistence. and then he would give you editions of his publications for you to study.
the first few times, after you’d baulked at the depth of the information, you’d actually managed to discover a few interesting elements. despite his ability to drone on, the passion he felt was undeniable when reading through this material. even if you didn’t retain much of the actual reading, the smile you developed lingered. only to widen when you’d witnessed the excited flicker of his tail when you’d returned the books with a few inquiries of your own.
tighnari took your interest in the fauna populating the forest seriously, cultivating the bud of fascination and furthering it. you hadn’t developed enough academic discretion to attempt a article- not that it would have been credible without the proper education- but tighnari baubles your insights all the same, often using your tracking skills to help develop new routes during various mating and hibernation periods.
it … really helped you feel at home. valued amongst the other forest rangers.
so what if you occasionally found your cheeks warming whenever he complimented your new discoveries.
“when people ask, it's important to point out as many examples as you can to help them identify. in most cases you only have their attention for a few minutes so you need to capitalise.”
you had to give it to collei, she was either fully immersed or integrating very well into the diversion. though when tighnari got like this, it was nearly one in the same.
rolling onto your knees, you paused as those endearing astute ears twitched in your direction. tighnari hadn’t skipped a beat, however instinct was so inherent. it made for an unfair advantage, however you had desensitisation on your side. the next disturbance you made as you leaned closer hardly got a reaction as his second nature focused on the world outside your bubble.
it was a flattering downfall that you’d happily exploit as your hand neared your objective.
“- actually that’s a common mistake. some of the gills look similar but if you notice here..:”
oh no.
in one fluid motion, tighnari managed to capture your hovering hand, dragging it forward under his arm to come in contact with his other. the motion dragged you flush against his back as he manipulated your fingertips against the underside of the mushroom.
“-… there’s a coarser distinction. of course, you have to be careful when encouraging other to touch freely as some can still be poisonous.”
naturally you doubted tighnari would use you so freely as an impromptu demonstration, punishment be damned. though the way he kept your appendage hostage implied that you weren’t free from reprimand.
poor collei chuckled nervously as tighnari held out the fungi for her to try, eyes wondering anxiously between the two of you. from your imprisonment, you were unable to see what expression tighnari was giving off, but if the tight grip was any indicator it was safe to hypothesise that it wasn’t in your favour.
“i um- see. thank you, master.”
tighnari didn’t appear to have any ill will towards the girl which was a small grace. his tone, however, was noticeably pinched as he directed the conversation over his shoulder.
“do you have any questions, ranger?”
yep.
there’s the wrath.
accepting defeat, your head careened forward into the hollow of his shoulder as you mumbled your negative with the shake of a head. Immediately you felt his posture stiffen in responses to your relaxed submission. the proximity awarded you a personal showcase of the heat crawling up the back of his neck.
interesting.
“well then!” tighnari forced a cheerful bravado as he brought you both to an abrupt stand, releasing you in favour of stepping forward to lead. “collei, listen closely as they recite every classification as we finish our patrol. we can make note of their mistakes so that they don’t make them again when they extensively copy them onto the new pamphlets for next release.”
it didn’t evade you how the fox refused to face you as he pressed forward. you dared to guess that the rosy hue of his neck might match the roundness of his cheeks.
perhaps some discoveries were worth the failures.
3
“I really want to feature the spinokrok in my next story but I’ve never really seen one up close. dad says it’s too dangerous though.”
“he’s right. they’re at the very bottom of the ravine.”
“oh…”
“but sometimes i pass through on patrols. if you’d like, i can snap a reference photo for you!”
“really? that would be awesome, thanks so much!”
children’s happiness was truly a unique fruit of motivation, both gratuitous and frankly slightly treacherous to consume. tighnari might liken it to one of the colourful sprouts that populate the banks near the cliffside; beautifully cunning but sure to leave you with a nasty surprise.
—okay, maybe that was a little dramatic.
but you were certainly going to be in for quite the scolding if tighnari found out that you derailed your patrols for the sake of taking a leisure photo of wildlife. in the defence of safety, the fox wasn’t as easily swayed by a childish promise.
fortunately, you were adept enough with just about any patrol path through the rainforest by now. your experience often persuaded tighnari to give allowance for you to tend to the paths along the outskirts of the village solo.
which you were totally doing.
just from a view a couple hundred metres below.
the path towards the wetland ravine was a muddy line in the undergrowth, a quieter trail that rarely gathered much traffic: traveller or wildlife. to be honest, you hardly ever saw anything other than the spinokrok’s down here. though given their diet, it wasn’t much of a surprise.
you carefully neared the bankside, watching the position of the sun in between the treetops. you’d already bartered away a lot of your time venturing this low. while you were known for a bit of wandering, if you took too long to check-in someone would end up alerting tighnari before long. the sky was already beginning to bleed into a light orange, the beginning shades of the setting sun melting into the blue above.
not your first nighttime return, but the light scolding would be easy enough to shake off.
the sudden splash drew your attention to the winding river as a crane took flight. the skittish fowl wouldn’t have been alerted to your presence this early which meant that your targets weren’t far off.
tugging the kamera from your knapsack, you followed the line of the water through the lens.
“there you are…”
razi would be pleased with the prints of the small brood of three. highlights from above complimented the red scales nicely. curious, you swung the lens further upstream in an attempt to capture a few more. known for their meat, if undisturbed it would be easy enough to find at least another two or three.
however as the slithering vines stretched norther further, twisting through branches on its congest to conquer vegetation, you found the rapidly darkening view to be concerning. sure enough, the once plentiful flora was beginning to shrink on itself and take on a dull shade. the distinctive red flow of the withering zone was seated right in the apex of the blistering landscape.
“here too?”
the area was small, but this route was part of the weekly assignments rather than the more frequent. had you not come here in search of fauna, it likely wouldn’t have been discovered for a few more days. unfortunately, locating it yourself was tantamount to giving away your private detour.
for a brief moment you debated taking the chance to report, weighing the pros and cons. ultimately, the loss of independency once tighnari tracked your impromptu route was too great of a squander. besides, it was a small devastation. you were qualified to handle it.
—except for the corrupted machina lingering just out of sight.
the narrow lens of the kamera hadn't been able to capture the additional dangers before you neared. had you been aware, you would have attempted to at least down one before you got too close. it was a tight battle, suffering under the thick miasma while trying to cut off the source.
you’d managed to down the bulkier of the two, but the swindling snake-like projection had been doing an annoying job of evading your strongest attacks. with your hp at threatening level, coupled with low energy regeneration, you were starting to regret your choices just a little bit.
you briefly wondered if tighnari would scold you through the eulogy.
the darkness blanketing the forest worked against you, as the remaining threads of daylight faded. the red glow of the withering was the least comforting form of light to rely on as you made a hasty dodge away from the blasting beam.
“oh, crap.”
a miscalculation saw your foot caught on a fraying vine, careening your forward as you landed heavily onto the ground. the threatening wind of the machina generating energy had you sucking in a harsh breath as you attempted to stand, resulting in a sharp jolt of pain as your ankle protested. a cold chill numbed your body in the worst way as the unsettling realisation of your actions weighed in. scrambling feebly for your weapon, you attempted to shield the next blow though you knew it wouldn't be enough.
“enshroud!”
your body jerked in alarm as a cloud of green circled the earth around you. the lack of visibility should have been worrying, had you not been very familiar with it’s caster; and the inevitable reckoning that would come.
the first half came in the form of a series tanglevine shafts trained to track and devastate. the secondary wave wiped out the last of the threats before your savour was able to focus on the bleeding blooms. you’d never been more grateful to witness a successful clearance, as the suffocating effects of the withering abed away. it gave you just enough clear air to breath a grateful sigh of relief before it all soured.
the second half of your retribution, was a quieter approach of wraith then you were use to. tighnari refused to look you in the eye as he kneeled before your injured limb. not that that you were trying to see the reflection of your guilt staring back at you. it gave you the opportunity to observe that he’d come alone, making you wonder if he’d been informed or had simply stumbled upon you.
neither option was beneficial.
the fox was obviously simmering, that much was clear even in his silence. he’d produced a small aid kit from his belt and was examining your ankle. the first sounds of annoyance permeating the air when you squeaked at the firm pressure against the joint.
it was obvious that you wouldn’t be walking out of here.
as if you weren’t in enough trouble.
tighnari’s reticence preserved as he tied a stiff bow at the end of your wrapping before turning to offer his back. sighing, you accepted your fate and looped your arms around his neck. tighnari waited until your knees settled at his sides before he rose to his feet, added a second security under the weight of your thighs.
at first you hoped to construct a plausible excuse in his silence, but after you’d practised the same redemption for the twelfth time you were starting to become more concerned about his resilience. you dont think you've ever witness tighnari hold back a scolding this long.
unable to hold out any longer, you poked the hornet’s nest.
“so razi has this new story idea.”
yeah you were throwing the kid under the bus, sue you.
the first flicker of his ears was a subtle warning, but you pressed through.
“he wanted to use the spinokroks as his next character but he’d never really been able to see one up close. and naturally it wouldn’t be safe for a child to traverse the forests. even with his father.”
there goes the second ear.
“so being the helpful forest ranger i am under your tutelage, i offered to secure a reference photo for him. which of course—”
tighnari’s voice came quiet and strained. “please stop talking.”
you waited for him to say more, sure that he’d have more to tack on, but no other words left his lips. it was disconcerting in a way you hadn’t experienced before. you'd suffered through annoyance, frustration and some rage.
but rarely disappointment.
it was bitter tasting.
it was rather telling when even the wildlife seemed to avoid the pair as you ascended out of the ravine. tighnari managed to not only reach the outskirts of the village, but did so without cracking under the pressure of your culpability.
unfortunately you weren’t as robust.
“tigh—”
“for every word, i’m adding a week of lamp maintenance duty.”
you squeezed your arms and legs around him in a hug, seeking out a thread of comfort through the throbbing pain of your ankle.
“i’m sorry.”
tighnari sucked in a sharp breath as his steps halted. you could see the first glow of the lamps in the distance, no doubt a night crew lingering near to welcome the late returners.
“you’re an idiot.”
a tight fist squeezed your heart as you shuddered against his back.
“i know.”
“another week! i cannot believe your absolute disregard for your welfare. not only in straying from your patrols but to attempt to clear a withering zone without reporting it first. what were you thinking?”
your lips parted, voice small,” well i thought given how far off it was that no one would come across it before it spread.”
the fox was quietly shaking under you,” i’m tempted to bench you for a year for this alone. you could have been killed.”
“but i wasn’t.”
tighnari didn’t acknowledge the crackled excuse as he resumed the ascent towards the heart of the village. the conversation was over, at least for tonight. you almost felt bad for those hapless to witness the quiet fury as the leader trudged through the canopy. though the arrangement surely painted a telling story no one dared to stop or question.
upon entering your bungalow, tighnari silently backed into your bed until you took the hint.
as your arms slipped from around him, your fingertips brushed against the furry cartilage. though the action went ignored by both parties.
“rest, we’ll discuss this in the morning.”
4
the discussion did not come the following morning, or the rolling day as the sun rose and set. given your ailment you weren't exactly able to seek out your punishment, though the waiting game felt like the precursor.
for the first three days, your only visitors were collie and one of the local healers. tighnari likely hadn’t banned the nervous girl, allowing her to stumble in at first light to assess your injuries. it seemed as though he also didn’t inform her of much as she tired to glean what she could.
unfortunately, your mood hadn’t really improved from the night before, nor had your pain levels. you managed a tight smile at best, gritting through a scarce overview. the overhanging rumours were that you finally pushed tighnari to his limits. which was not too far from the truth.
your medicine came in three intervals, and each visit was just that. umm only offer a genial knowing close-lipped smile as she applied the numbing cream and rewrapped your joints. the only news came from collei with each meal. it was never what you wanted to hear, but the sound of a voice other than your thoughts was welcome.
you were able to keep up with light chat, the both of you doing an amicable job at avoiding the shaggy sumpter beast in the room. if the flightiness she gave off was anything to go by, then tighnari hadn’t completely cooled off. initially, you’d only probed subtly. asking about her patrols to see who accompanied her. questioning new withering zone reports to gauge who might be assigned. either tighnari had instructed her to be tightlipped or she was on as much of a lockdown as you were because the information gleaned was inconsequential.
it wasn’t until the fifth day, when you were able to balance on your injured ankle for longer than a minute that you dared to try for more.
umm had just finished, stepping clear of the doorway to allow collei to maneuver freely with the two bowls of lunch. the younger girl was in a lighter mood, giving you the extra confidence to push.
you took a bite of the leftover stew first, before testing the waters. “has tighnari taken you on any deeper patrols lately?”
the girl stiffened but otherwise did not show any signs of distress.
“not really, he’s been kind of strict with patrols lately. only seniors have been assigned to the forest floor. i patrolled the understory with nasrin yesterday though! the dusk birds are starting to nest.”
you could resist a soft smile as the girl lead comfortable into a short tangent about the different locations she’d tracked in her notebook. she loved to watch the hatching process from the birth to first flight. tighnari was often more lenient with her during this season. you were pleased to know your mess up hadn’t resulted in that being taken away.
“hopefully i’ll be healed enough to catch one of the hatchings.”
collei’s gaze flickered to your freshly wrapped ankle, “master tighnari wouldn’t say but he’s been pretty testy about ranger etiquette lately. well more than useful.”
“yeah, i was pretty stupid,” you muttered, quoting the fox’s words from that night.
collei sat upright on the chair by your desk, responding to your despondent mood. “he’s not nearly as bad as before though. i mean that morning after he was really mad. not like loud angry, but everyone knew not to test him. but he’s calmer now”, she assured.
you assumed as much. avoiding you was likely the best way to keep his temper in check.
you watched as the green haired trainee squirmed in her seat, no doubt uncomfortable at the idea of being between the brewing conflict. tighnari no doubt tried to ease that predicament by withholding information. the least you could do was honour your half to keep from setting her off.
“umm said i should try walking around more. i got permission to pace the platform if you want to join.”
the girl jumped at the chance, nearly losing her bowl in the process. laughing, you quickly took hers and set it on the desk with yours before standing to your feet. collei was at your side, urging your arm over her shoulder. it wasn’t really necessary but you’d never turn down the girl’s assistance.
carefully the two of you ambled through the leaves shrouding your entrance. it wasn’t the first time this week that the sun warmed your skin. umm had urged you to test the distance from your bed to your porch on the second day with each visit there after. it helped tp press your limitations while keeping the joint from getting too stiff. but this was the first time you’d been able to venture far enough out to interact with more than the same two people for the last few days.
collei remained diligent as she led you down the straight path, attention not straying from your gait as you greeted faces you haven't seen in awhile. the reception was overall positive, your health and wellbeing superseding the wraith that had hung over the encampment for the past week. it narrowed down the list of those you’d need to apologise to at least.
“oh it’s master tighnari!”
your gaze snapped to her extended finger, noting the tall tuff of ears before anything else. his back was turned to you, a fortunate thing as you still weren’t sure how to face him just yet. he appeared to be conversing with a group, though it wasn’t the usual collection of rangers waiting for assignments.
you recognized the garments however.
collei groaned as she sagged under your arm. “its the akademiya again. when will they ever learn?”
likely no time soon, as the pressure from both the forest and threat of the ‘scarlet king’ followers continued to rise. the first time you witnessed the prestigious envoy attempting to recruit the fox, you’d been in awe. it was somewhat of an honour to be approached by anyone doning the gowns. next to the archon herself, they were the reigning power. however the prestige lost a light grace, when tighnari scoffed at the invitation.
it was one of the occasions that you’d really come to appreciate more than just his vast knowledge. of course, you respected him as a leader but it was different to consider his understanding of plant life on a scholarly level. his tangents that he loved to rattle your ear with were published and very popular articles.
he was something of a celebrity. a fact that you loved to tease just to see the tops of his cheeks grow warm at the admission.
now, even at this distance, you could see a similar red dusting his fair skin. but not in the pleasant way that warmed your chest.
no it seemed that an inkingly of your excursion still peaked his heart rate. and this wasn't making it any better.
that wasn’t good.
“collei, please help me.”
“huh? oh, wait! not too fast.”
tighnari grit through a tight smile, barely hanging onto his fangs to keep them from showing. at a young age his mother taught him that human could find it threatening. frankly, right now he wished to find out how much of a truth that was if it got these nuisances out of his hair.
this was the last thing that he wished to deal with right now. the institution had taken a different route it seemed, sending students under the premise of studying under his tutelage. something he would maybe consider any other time than now.
his foot tapped irritably as one of the bolder ones spoke his piece, spouting words of prose that meant nothing to him. they were all weak and obvlivious children wandering aimlessly. he had enough of those under his own watch.
“master tighnari, i've read all your publications intensively and feel that i would be a valuable asset in your further research of the withering zones. i believe that together we can find a cure.”
tighnari barely resisted rolling his eyes. it was almost laughable. the withering had plagued them for centuries and they were still no closer to curbing it. no amount of research at this point was going to factor in. all they could do was contain, and that was a skill the akademiya didn’t teach.
breathing audibly through his nose, the fox attempted to remain cordial. “i appreciate your determination, however, i'm not in a position right now to allocate more rangers to facilitate your safety. the forest—”
“—i’ve also read intently on the local fauna and proper was to track warning signs of predators…”
tighnari really hated when he was interrupted.
“i’m confident in my ability to spot danger before it becomes a problem.”
especially by know-it-alls who were overstepping in his domain.
the student continued on unware of the growing dangers, “i’ve brought a few of my manuscripts with me if you’d like to browse some of my speculations and hypotheses…”
tighnari's brow twitched as the student droned on. for someone who boasted about extensive research on understanding predators he was rather obvious to the one standing before him. the same couldn't be said about his colleagues who were carefully edging back.
“if i could just get a few samples—”
the student had sense enough to notice as the plant scholar suddenly flinched, hand coming up to grasp the wrist of the hand threatening to touch the tip of his ear. it was the first time since opening his mouth that he’d taken into account the strained curl to the lips of the botany researcher.
his gaze then flickered to the more relaxed, if not slightly sheepish smile of the forest ranger behind. they seemed otherwise unconcerned despite the death grip they'd been trapped in for … attempting to touch master tighnari’s ears?
the student felt a shudder wrack his body as the fox’s grimace smoothed into … something that he would one day recognize as a reckoning he’d be fortunate to survive in years to come.
“apologies, you’ll have to excuse me. it appears one of my rangers feels well enough to venture off their bed rest and is due for some new assignments.” with that, the lead ranger looped the still trapped limb over his shoulder before assisting the injured ranger back up the canopy.
“you can give your manuscripts to my trainee, collei.”
the green hair trainee in question waved timidly, unsure of how she got in this position but willing to help.” hello, im forest ranger trainee collei. please let me assist you safely out of the forest.”
5
“it’s master tighnari!”
believe it or not, forest rangers did get off days. while it was still heavily frowned on to use that time to exploit certain privileges to free roam the forest, there were other activities that some could get up to.
some would use the opportunity to travel to the city or port for the market or to visit family.
others utilised their freedom to work on personal research.
then there was tighnari who used the opportunity to research the local flora … via oral experimentation.
your small project had been tossed aside in favor of darting out of your bungalow at the cry of fright from the green haired girl. it wasn’t the first time you’d witnessed tighnari taking his passion … to the next level. that time, curiosity had thrown him into a rather long slumber that he’d conveniently woken up from after a gratuitous amount of panicking on collie’s part and just in time for you to return with the rescue aid party.
it was safe to say that was not the last occassion, and tighari had treated you both to several lunches to make up for the scares.
but it wasn’t often that he was brought back to the village in a state. more often than not the ailments resolved in the time it took someone to find him or simply shaken off with no concern.
it was enough to have you barreling unannounced through the head ranger’s door with apprehension. firm but fraying hands caught you as you stumbled through, righting your body before you could embarrass yourself.
“don’t worry, tighnari is fine. it’s a harmless reaction to one of the fungi he consumed.”
umm brought her hands to a comfortable leisure behind her back as you peered over her shoulder.
tighnari was lain out across his bed. it looked as though he had been tucked away intentionally, but the man had fought away the sheets in a fit. there was a light coat of perspiration doting his forehead and his skin had taken on a rosy flush. it hardly looked harmless. you’d never seen the lead forest watcher look so … unravelled.
when was he going to learn to stop experimenting so freely?
umm gave a passing pat to your shoulder,“with a bit of rest he’ll be just fine.”
you had hoped as much but it eased some of your worries to see him at least home safe. though his predicament still tested your resolve. you would distract yourself for the time being concocting your own chiding speech. seriously, someone needed to hold him accountable. as it seemed, you were the only one daring enough to challenge the fox.
heavily a relieved sigh, you turned to leave. collie would likely need a second dose of comfort now that you’d taken your own inventory of the indisposed ranger. umm, bless her soul, wasn’t a very convincing source of comfort. having collie help prepare your speech would do some good for her as well.
“wait, don’t go yet.”
you stiffed at the unexpected plea. the voice behind you sounded a bit stronger than it should be in this predicament, more like the fox you recognized. umm hadn’t left you with any instructions, but it was safe to assume he was meant to rest as not to rile up his heart rate anymore. something you were very good at doing.
you liked to think that the two of you were on agreeable terms thus far. you’d been a textbook ranger over the last few weeks. not testing the limits of your privileges or boundaries. it allowed for the two of you to have some nice conversations. though you doubted anything very articulate would come from his mouth right now.
it was unfair, how adorable he looked with mussed hair, heavy eyes and creased clothes. umm had taken responsibility to rid him of the more decorative parts of his uniform, leaving him in a simple shirt and pants. the said shirt appeared to have been tugged open, revealing the lean muscles of his chest and abdomen.
that was decidedly leaning away from cute, as you tore your gaze away and scolded yourself.
“you should really lay back down, tighnari, i need you to be yourself when i deliver your scolding later.”
“tigh.”
“huh?”
you were shaken out of your stupor when he stood, concern triggering your fight reaction as you quickly huddled him back onto the bed before he fell. he allowed you to do so, however when he glanced up at you his olive eyes showed annoyance.
“i prefer when you refer to me as tigh.”
your mouth open and closed silently at the admission. you could never recall tighnari outright scolding you for the curtail of his name. you used it so sparingly, and only ever in the comfort of just yourselves or collei.
he never really showed any emotion other than surprise the first time he’d realised what you said. you never assumed he’d catalogued the occurrences to feel any ownership over the name.
you fidgeted under the scrutinised of the fox, unsure of how to proceed from there. it was obvious that he was still mildly effective if the rose of his skin was anything to go by. but there was undeniable clarity cutting through the fog in his eyes. it was enough of a relief to have your shoulders sagging slightly.
if it got him to comply and rest through the remainder of the effects, you could concede.
“okay, … tigh. please stop eating flora so carelessly.”
it wasn’t your intention to start the chastising prematurely, but if he wanted you to talk, you’d do so. you weren’t sure what all of this he would recall, but you hoped the echoing nag of your voice would hover like a hangover next time he considered experimenting alone. you knew he only tested things with vague assumptions, just enough to ensure that he wouldn’t perish on sight. but it was still close enough calls for you to worry.
you thought nothing of the way he snared your hands, too used to having them detained in pursuit of your goal. maybe another time you would be the one to catalogue just how frequently the two of you help hands. certainly enough to suffer from desensita-
your speech cut off with a choke as the fox brought one of your hands to the crown of his head. it was the closest you’d ever gotten to your prize, just a simple flex of your fingers and it would be yours.
and he was just allowing it.
“um, tigh…?”
you swallowed as his hold slid to your wrist, thumb caressing the inside.
“it’s what you want, right?” unintentionally your finger flexed under the strain of resisting, just the casual brush against the ear causing the body to shudder. tighnari managed an even breath through his nose, but you suspected his heart was creating as much of a racket as yours was. “ i want you to. i don’t mind if it’s you.”
you sucked in a sharp breath at the omission.
it took strength that you didn't think you had, and stupidity you’d likely reflect on later that night as you regrettably pulled your hand away. firmly not thinking at all about the soft whine that left the fox’s lips at the action.
your smile was wobbly, frail under the weight of emotions teetering at the edge. you gave his bicep a comforting squeeze before you urged him to lay back in bed. thankfully he didn’t put up much of a fight as you tucked him in.
his lashes fluttered closed against the cool caress of his cheek.
“next time, promise.”
between one breath and the next, he fell asleep.
+1
tighnari woke to a low hanging sun and a heavy head. despite the warnings he opened his eyes, then immediately shut them. though blurry and out of sequence, the master ranger was able to piece together the majority of his last coherency.
he’d been experimenting with the effects of the moonshade mushrooms. there had been reports of unaware travellers losing consciousness in the middle of the forest and waking in a fevered state. naturally, he’d taken it upon himself to test the outcome in order to properly assign warning labels in his next publication.
the initial bout of slumber had been brief, broken by a wave of nausea and the sensation of his body overheating itself. he then recalled umm stripping away his uniform in order to help him cool down.
and then there was you.
he remembered the sound of your concern and the inkling of berating though he couldn't exactly call back the wording. he was sure to get an encore either way; well deserved.
there was a gaping absence in his recollection, but the sensation of your hand settled between the space of his ears hadn’t escaped him. when had he gotten bold enough to daringly reach out like that? sure you’d done the same on multiple occasions but it had been in pursuit of a singular goal while he—
tighnari stared at the leaf drawn entrance of his chamber, face burning.
but surely that could not have all occurred before noon.
“oh good you’re awake. that mushroom managed to down even you for a full day. it's certainly something to be aware of.”
the elderly woman peered briefly through the cut of the door before granting herself entrance. tighnari sat obediently still as she flittered over his vital signs, ensuring his temperature and heart rate were within agreeable boundaries.
she scribbled the notes like clockwork into the parchment on his desk. while his methods weren’t often agreed upon, umm saw the value in the repercussions. her diligence had help assist in multiple breakthroughs. tighnari would be sure to deliver a nice basket of her favourite tree sap candies once he was back in working order.
amir would have certainly taken initiative to oversee assignments for the day. he would certainly owe collei a visit as well to assure her fears. he vaguely remembered her putting up a fuss when he’d been carried in, shortly before she’d been directed out leading to her alerting you.
tighnari’s cheeks grew hot again. he refused to acknowledge the rising blush even as umm chuckled quietly while gathering up her kit. instead, he kept his eyes on the entrance as he pinned his sashes in place and equipped his vision.
it wasn’t as if the two of you weren’t already rather close. it was safe to say he gave you more allowances than most. sure, your futile attempts to touch his ears could be frustrating at times, but more so because of the opportunities you took than the actual actions.
despite popular belief, tighnari didn’t truly hold his ears in that high regard. it was more out of proprietary that he shied away from strangers acting out of curiosity. to be honest, he really wouldn’t mind too much if a ranger asked to pet them. but it seems as if their own misconceptions had fed into the unspoken rule that his fox-like features were out of the question.
except for you.
over time, the two of you managed to lapse into a comfortable game of cat and mouse. tighnari knew if he’d shown any true signs of anger you would have backed away from the start. but his tolerance had permitted you to try again and again.
so what if the occasional punishments he placed on you deterred the others, it never snuffed your fire and that was all that mattered to him.
it was only natural that over time constant exposure would ignite his own interest. he could recall with vivid memory the way it felt to have you pressed against his back that time in the forest when you attempted to claim your prize in the middle of his lecture. he’d made you wait there while he finished the lesson, all the while relishing in the heat permitted his back.
had it been just the two of you, he would have let you.
yet when he finally caved and gave you the permission you'd been seeking all this time, you’d backed out.
‘next time’ you’d promised.
“if you’re done laminating, once you've finished eating you can go find them. i  believe i saw them returning not long before i came here.”
umm didn’t wait for a response as she saw herself out, her amusement audible even as she descended the ramp to her own domain.
tighnari didn’t rush the act as he finished his meal and the provided water. once he finished, his lips turned at the dimming sunlight. his schedule was all but thrown out the window for the day, though he doubted anyone expected him to contribute much. still it stung his consciousness as a leader to leave his subordinates hanging , even if they were all self-sufficient adults. at least the headache had disappeared with proper nourishment. there would be time to salvage his routine later.
the sun was positioned late in the afternoon, but the dim light still irritated his eyes. he blinked through the sting as he welcomed the sight of the quaint village operating adequately in his absence.
he returned any passing waves and gave brief responses to their questions. for the most part everyone seemed confident that he’d make a full recovery, though he still harboured the guilt of worrying them.
brow pinched, he waved nasrin closer. “have you seen collei?”
the purse of her mouth didn’t spell anything good. tighnari hoped her illness had not acted up in his absence. “she had trouble sleeping last night so someone swapped patrols with her. she just set off not too long ago.”
the girl sometimes had trouble sleeping when plagued with anxiousness. tighnari settled that he would confront her upon her return, for now he had one more stop. he had a feeling he knew who offered to adjust their schedule to accommodate the girl.
he found your bungalow with practised ease, delivering a single knock before you offered entrance. he found you seated at your desk, no doubt detailing the report of your finding before submission. it was a relief to see that you took a break from your typical mischievousness to conduct a seemingly uniform patrol while he was indisposed.
“i don't suppose you came across any new interesting flora on your patrols?”
tighnari watched as your shoulders stiffened at the unexpected sound of his voice. your head whipped around, eyes assessing him carefully before you gave a timid, relieved smile.
“i think we can all agree that you’ve had enough adventures for one week,” you noted with light scolding.
grinning, tighnari cared little if his fangs showed, knowing you wouldn't find them threatening. your gaze followed him as he secured the leaves behind him before approaching your desk. he leaned comfortably against the wooden structure as he browsed the report. it had been routine indeed, not a single withering sighting.
“are you sure you’re alright? you had me worried for a bit.”
tighnari’s brow rose,” only a bit?”
scoffing, you rolled your eyes,” it’s not the worst thing you’ve eaten but seeing you down for so long was concerning. collei will be relieved to see you back on your feet.”
tighnari braceed his palm against the dest and leaned into the posture,“and you?”
“i owe you a scolding. you always get onto me about being aware and careful of my surroundings. yet here you go testing unknown fungi alone in the forest. at least bring it back before you test it out so we can be there if you need us.”
tighnari waited for you to finish, eyes shining with thinly veiled amusement. you seemed to recognize it as well, huffing as you realised your scolding didn't have as much weight as the seasoned scholar.
unable to resist, the fox reached out to run is fingers along the side of your face before letting them rest against your shoulder. he watched as your chest expanded to take in the small gasp of surprise. it was a rare moment for him to initiate contact like this, especially given the recent occurrence only yesterday. while his recollection was misty, yours was clear as day.
“i think you owe me something else too.”
tighnari watched your reactions carefully, from the flutter of your lashes to the rapid thrum of your heart beat against the pulse under your jaw. he never shied away from a discovery the promise of a satisfying understanding driving him from one revelation to the next.
admittedly, you’d been a gradual observation. the question at the tip of the scale all this time while he’d unknowingly researched you thoroughly with each new interaction. day and day again, you prompted him with new variables both under his control and not. it was only today that he managed to form a working hypothesis. a hesitant theory that he knew would shift everything.
tighnari watched with growing fascination as the initial shock meddling into purposefulness as your hand came into view. impatient, he couldn't resist ducking his hand to meet you halfway. the first careful touch was equally inquisitive and hesitant. each time in the past, your hand had darted out with such certainty. yet now with it all willing at your fingertips, you allowed yourself the time to explore.
he hadn’t realised his head had come to rest against your collar bone until he felt the rumbled of your laughter. you didn’t simply just touch his ears, you caressed the length form the widest part to the tip. your fingertips tickled the tufts of fluff at the base. and the light scratched you delivered against the firm cartilage had him all but melting into your hold. the burst of new stimuli tickled his nerves and left pleasant sensations.
later he would analyse the data but he was already certain about his conclusion.
your words mussed the top of his head as you spoke, humour bleeding into your intrigue. “can’t believe it took you a year to crack, tigh.”
tighnari sagged further at the uttering of the name. you flinched, not expecting the words of response to be mumbled into your skin. gratefully, it didn't cause you to pause.
“what was that?”
your touch slid from his ears to the curve of his jaw as his head rose to meet your gaze.
“i actually had two hypotheses I wanted to test.”
though he didn't speak more than that, he could tell you were well aware of the implications. your lips parted to respond, but no words could pass the lump in your throat. tighnari tested the waters, leaning closer enough to brush the tup of his nose against yours. when you didn't pull away, he leaned down and pressed your lips together, firmly but briefly. as he breathed in deeply,  the smell of lush forestry, sweet flora and you invaded his scenes. the scent of familiarity minding with the aroma of what he called home was intoxicating.
your eyes shone bright with mischief as tighnari pulled away, no doubt observing the rosy hue spreading across his face.
“i think we need to experiment a little more before we can come to a confident conclusion.”
tighnari leaned back in and nuzzled you affectionately.
“i agree.’’

Thoughts? No pressure, don't read if you don't want
"The Lion Turtle saves Aang from making a hard decision" It literally didn't. Aang full on said the words "I have to kill Fire Lord Ozai." He is not happy about it, but he is willing to do it. Even AFTER the Lion Turtle gives him an alternative he still almost does it anyway while in the Avatar state, only stopping himself at the last minute. And even BEFORE the Lion Turtle he had been willing to admit "Fire Lord Ozai is a terrible person, and the world would probably be better off without him"
Aang WAS willing to do the same as Gyatso and take a life if absolutely necessary. But he had a different option, and he took it - again, after seriously considering going for the "just kill the bastard" route.
Could the Lion Turtle have been set up better? Yes. But that doesn't change that fact that Aang's view-point was challenged and he concluded that pacism does not have to mean "just let the bad guy kill everyone", and to say that he didn't is either complete dishonesty or an admission that this kids show was too complicated for you to understand.
"Aang is not only responsible for himself" Neither was Zuko. Yet he let Ozai live when he had the perfect opportunity to kill him - even better than the ones Aang got for most of his battle with Ozai - because he believed it wasn't his fate. Where is the hate for Zuko?
And where's the hate for Iroh for going "Oh, even if I could defeat Ozai, history would see it as just a brother killing another brother for power?" yet sending his nephew to a potentially fatal battle with his niece for the title of Fire Lord? Where's the hate for him for going "Well, what history will think of me is more important than me at least backing up the Avatar?" Why didn't Iroh, the White Lotus, or any of the adults so much as offer be by Aang's side in the battle?
If everyone is throwing the responsibility on his lap, then Aang is the one to decide how he's gonna handle that responsibility, and if other people got a problem with that, they better step the hell up and take charge for once.
"This might be a kid's show instead of Game Of Thrones, but people still died, so it could have had the main character save the day by killing the bad guy"
Buddy. Buddy. Come on.
Avatar TELLS us Ozai disfigured his son, and we see the scar on his face, but it doesn't SHOW us the gory details. We KNOW people died, and we see bodies, but we don't see burnt corpses, people being crushed under rocks and bleeding to death, or hitting the ground after a fatal fall. Nick downright had the writers change scenes before they were animated because they were considered "too violent." They even cut away when Sokka slices a watermellon with his sword because the watermellon in question was representing a human head - it wasn't even a human being!
Kids shows have very specific, often kind of absurd rules - Teen Titans is infamous because Cartoon Network let the villain kidnap, torture, and try to murder to murder the heroes and even be implied to be a pedophlie and we see him burn away a teenager's clothes, yet he HAD to be called "Slade" instead of "Deathstroke" because "Think of the children!"
Saying "Nickelodeon is never gonna let the good guy save the day by murdering the bad guy" is not at all absurd just because they let the writers get away with other tihngs.
And once again, even if they COULD get away with that, they still wouldn't do it because as the anon so kindly pointed out, Aang's arc and the entire theme of mercy the show had from the very beginning do NOT allow that ending to make any goddamn sense.
Characters saving the day through murder is not inherently more "mature" or "more satisfying to watch" than the hero being merciful, and this kids show is not Game Of Thrones, GET OVER YOURSELVES ALREADY.
You like a kids show. A cartoon for 7-year-olds. A show in a children's network. Just because it didn't talk down to it's target audience doesn't mean you can expect it to deliver stuff it never promised you in the first place.

SUPER LESBIAN ANIMAL RPG v1.1 IS HERE! This is the most substantial patch since launch. On top of the usual bug fixes, we have new area maps, the new Additional Guidance mode, and most importantly... Melody now has a pet cat!! Look at him
As always, Steam users should get the patch automatically, while itch users can redownload the game from the store page. Common technical questions are also addressed in our FAQ page.
To try and manage expectations here, while this update contains more than the usual bug fixes, I don't currently have any plans to add a huge amount of content to the game. Right now I think it's already long enough, and the game's structure (with a definitive ending and no postgame) isn't conducive to adding DLC. And also, you know, what's there already took almost eight years of my life to make, and that kinda takes a lot out of you. But these additions felt like they would meaningfully improve the experience of what's already there.
Full changelog below!
v1.1 Changelog
"New content":
Additional Guidance mode can now be toggled on or off from the start of the game or via the in-game Options menu! When enabled, this will occasionally offer more direct hints on what to do next in a few specific parts of the game for more story-focused players - particularly a few puzzle segments, as well as helping you find the side content late in the game.
Ultimately, the total number of hints added across the game is low. Exploration, dungeon puzzles, and returning to previously-visited areas with new tools are core pillars of SLARPG's design, and I don't want to hold the player's hand every step of the way. But these specific bits have been parts where some players just gave up and messaged me (usually at like 3am), or posted a cry for help in the #SLARPG tag on Twitter. Which isn't optimal! So now an extra nudge in the right direction exists in-game, should you ever need it.
New area maps have been added for the Amber Woods, Sapphire Coast, and Uncanny Valley! They can be acquired from Park Ranger Taylor, the beach souvenir shop (first accessible in Act III), and Rafael, respectively.
And finally, as was originally intended, Melody now has... a pet cat in her house!! He is truly the most important part of this patch, and the most important thing that will ever be patched into the game.
Other tweaks:
Unrevealed enemies should no longer have their health bars displayed when using multi-target attacks.
The menu (and, by extension, the options menu) can now be accessed during the Prologue.
Fixed the Bestiary entries for the Loot Scooter and Helper Jelly not properly unlocking in the Sapphire Coast.
The animation for Megalith from the Geomancer Spellbook now plays for each individual enemy that's caught in its area of effect. (A compatibility issue was found with the script that made AoE attacks only play one animation, and this was the only skill in the game that needed said script.)
Originally the columns in the last "puzzle" room of the Flurry Mountains had no collision because that room is just a joke and I didn't want people to get stuck in a maze that exists purely for a gag but they now have collision so that I stop receiving bug reports about it
Added new line when entering the Fortune Teller's shop late in Act IV (or Act V) saying that he can help locate uncompleted major side quests at that point in the story. (He will now also point you in the direction of Fawna's side quest if you haven't completed it.)
A backup method of acquiring the missable Spellbook in Act III has been added late in Act IV. (You can still only get it once.)
The Crypt boss can no longer be defeated in a way that makes a certain unique status ailment remain after the battle.
There's now an additional warning at save points past the point of no return.
Other minor fixes.
Enjoy the update, everyone!

It's You (Alexia x Reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: Made out of request 1 & 2. Hope you have a great day!
It's hard to point out when exactly the relationship between you and your girlfriend turned so sour.
You two met at a bar where you and your team celebrated the win against your rival Real Madrid.
She approached you and invited you to a drink, which later turned into a few more drinks, with the conversation between you flowing easy.
Throughout the whole evening you two talked, joked and just enjoyed each other's presence, so when the time to leave came around you two exchanged numbers, agreeing to arrange a date sometime soon.
One date turned into a second and so on, soon you made things official with each other and everything was going amazing.
That was almost 8 month ago.
You two decided to move in together 2 months ago, and that's around the time when things shifted between you.
It started off with her getting annoyed whenever you told her you would be out meeting up with Alexia.
Alexia and you became friends immediately after you joined Barcelona 3 years ago. She helped you settle in with showing you around and explaining the play style, even offering to stay longer with you after training to make sure you are on the same level as everyone else on the team.
So friends turned quickly into best friends, spending a lot of time together, seeking each other out when comfort is needed and so on, but that's all it was between you both, a close friendship.
That's why it took you by surprise when your girlfriend confronted you the first time about you possibly having feelings for your best friend. You never saw Alexia that way, of course you thought she was an amazing woman but after building a friendship that quick, it didn't even occur to your mind that there could be something more between you two.
You denied it, of course, but she never seemed to really believe you when you said that. Even stating that she is sure that Alexia has feelings for you, which again took you by surprise because from your point of view she never showed signs she could be into you.
From that moment on you two could barely go one day without fighting, she always seems to find a way to start an argument, and you couldn't just let it go. You couldn't understand why she was so jealous and wouldn't trust you.
So here you are standing in the living room fighting once again over a stupid topic with your girlfriend.
"Why does she have to hug you in front of all these people, huh?!" She angrily screams at you.
"It's normal to celebrate a goal! In case you didn't notice, but the other girls hugged me too!" You say annoyed but trying not to raise your voice too much.
She completely ignores the second part of your answer and follows up with "I don't care what you say, you know I don't like it when you are that close to her!" at this point, it seems like she keeps getting angrier at every word that's being spoken.
"She's my best friend! And it was a simple hug, I don't understand what the issue is here! Like I said, it was a normal goal celebration!" You answer, voice now rising a bit more.
"Yeah right, hugging on field and as soon as you were off you probably screwed each other!" She screams right back, completely blinded by anger and jealousy.
You were taken aback, yes she was jealous and accused you that there were feelings between you two, but never accused you of cheating on her before.
Hearing her say that hurt you, because cheating was never an option for you, you despise it and having it being thrown at you hurts you more than you thought it would.
Letting out a defeated "Wow.", you take your keys and jacket before leaving the apartment.
____________________________
You found yourself at Alexia's door. Even though almost all of your fights seem to be around her, she is still your first destination when being upset. After all, she is your best friend.
Your mind is running, replaying the words she threw at you during that argument, not getting over the fact that she really thought you would stoop so low and cheat on her with your best friend. You didn't even notice the tears that starting falling down your cheeks.
The door opening breaks you out of your thoughts, Alexia smiles when she realizes it's you standing there, the smile quickly fades tho when she sees the tears running down your face.
Pulling you inside her flat she immediately takes you in her arms holding you tight, "What happened? Did you two fight again?" She asks, clearly concerned.
All you did was simply nodding your head before you started sobbing, the tension that was pent-up from all the fights over the past months, finally breaking, you needed to let it all out.
"I'm sorry, I just didn't know where to go." you say with a low voice, scared you might destroyed any plans she could have had before you arrived.
That just concerned her even more, she knew about the fights between you and your girlfriend, but you were never that upset before and showing up unannounced was something neither of you ever apologized before.
"Hey, it's okay, I got you." Is all she says in return before pulling you to the couch trying to calm you down.
____________________________
The next morning you woke up to the smell of coffee, sitting up you look around confused before realizing that you are in Alexias living room.
As if she knew you woke up, she came in with two steaming mugs in her hand, you pull the blanket off of you before accepting one of the mugs she held out to you.
"Thank you." you muttered before taking a sip.
"Of course" she replies before taking a sip herself, keeping an eye on you as you kept your eyes on the coffee in your hand.
"How are you?" she asks you with a soft voice.
Letting out a sigh, you put your mug on the small table in front of the couch, "Honestly? I've been better." you state.
"Do you want to talk about what happened? I have never seen you that upset before." she says, carefully.
"I'm sorry, it has just been so much lately, all we do is fight, and her accusing me of cheating on her yesterday was apparently the last straw. I just couldn't hold my emotions anymore." you tell her, it was obvious that you were still upset about what happened yesterday.
Alexia was angry, she can't believe that your girlfriend really accused you of cheating, everyone who knew you knows that it's something you wouldn't even dream of doing.
Honestly, Alexia can't stand your girlfriend, in the beginning she was happy for you finding someone but after the fights between you started happening more often and always having to comfort you in some way she couldn't help but start to dislike her.
"She did what?! How does she even come up with something like that? Who would you even cheat with her on?!" She speaks clearly angry about the words that your girlfriend said to you.
You stayed silent for a second, debating if you really want to tell her the truth, you never told her that the topics of your fights involved her being friends with you, not wanting her to feel bad or worse loosing her.
"You." Is all you say.
"Me?" She replied confused.
So you started talking, explaining to her what the fights are always about. Your girlfriend thinking that she likes you and vice versa. You simply let all out, feeling better when you were done.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know that happened. But it's not healthy, you know?" She says, taken aback by the information you just dropped on her.
"You have nothing to be sorry about!" you quickly point out. "It's not your fault, I just don't know why she behaves that way... and yes, I do know it's not healthy." you say defeated.
"Maybe you should talk it out with her and if it ends badly again, you can stay here in the spare room for a while." she offers you.
"You are right and thank you." you reply with a sigh.
After you both finished your coffee and had some light breakfast, you make your way home to your shared apartment.
Little do you know that your girlfriend is right, Alexia does have feelings for you, she just never knew how to approach you.
____________________________
Making your way in, you take off your shoes before looking for your girlfriend. You find her sitting in the kitchen, drinking coffee.
"Hey." you quietly greet her.
"Hi." she replies shortly before getting back to drinking her coffee.
Letting out a sigh, you make your way over, "I think we should talk."
Turning her attention to you, she states, "We should, I want you to choose."
Eyes widening you speak surprised "What? Choosing what?"
"Between her and me." she declared.
You just stand there for a minute, again, totally taken back by the words she spoke.
"She is my best friend!" You exclaim upset.
"So it's her, then? You are choosing her over me?" She replies angry.
"You know what? If that's really what you want, then yes, it's her. She is my best friend and if you can't come to accept that her and I will always be friends, then it is her that I'm choosing." You say defeated, but still with a sure voice.
Letting out a dry chuckle, "I knew it." she muttered, "and you say there was nothing, of course."
Before you could answer, she followed up, "I want you to leave. Take your stuff and get out of here."
Deciding to not say anything, you pack your stuff and make your way out of the apartment.
____________________________
You accepted Alexia's offer of staying with her after the break-up until you find yourself an own apartment again.
It's almost a month since you have been living together, and you honestly never felt happier. Of course, you were upset and hurt by the break-up, but Alexia did her best to cheer you up and help forget her.
A concern of yours was that the friendship between you two might get strained a bit by suddenly living together and causing problems, but after the month spend together, you can say that it's definitely not the case.
It actually made your bond even stronger, and it also made you see her in a different light.
You suddenly noticed how beautiful her laugh is, how truly beautiful she looked on field and off field and how bright her eyes are when she talks something she is passionate about.
Of course, she was beautiful in your eyes since you two met, but spending more time together, closer than ever, made you put more mind into it. And that's where you slightly panic, it couldn't be true, right? You are not really falling in love with your best friend, right?
____________________________
It's been a little over two months now, the search for an own apartment seems to get slower every day, almost like the both of you don't really want you to leave.
You loved the daily movie nights, going to training and leaving it together, having her by your side when you are eating and giving her company when Nala has to get out.
The two of you are currently walking through the park after eating at a restaurant. A tradition that formed quickly after living together, you two would try out a new restaurant every week and keep a list of them where you write down your opinions and if it's worth visiting again.
There is a comfortable silence surrounding you two, when she speaks up "She is right you know?"
Not understanding who or what she was referring to, you let out a confused "Who? And right about what?"
"Your ex." she responded, following up with, "I do have feelings for you."
Both of you have stopped walking by now, facing each other, you scan her face to see if she really just meant what she says. She does the same to you, but looking for a sign of you, hopefully returning her feelings.
"You... you do?" you blurted out, not believing what she just said.
Taking it as a sign that you were not sharing the same feelings, she starts rambling "Yea but uh it's okay if you don't feel the same."
That's where you slowly wake up from your stupor, "Ale" you say.
"No really we can just forget I said anything and go back to how it was." she keeps on rambling out in a fast way.
"Alexia."
"Maybe we should head back now, it's late and..."
"I like you too. " You announced.
That put a stop to her rambling, staring at you in surprise and disbelief over the words you just said.
There is a silence between the both of you before she decides to step closer to you, "Can I kiss you now?" she whispered.
"Please do."
Both of you lean in, as soon as your lips touched you feel butterflies in your stomach.
The first kiss was short-lived, pulling away to see each other reaction, after you both made sure that it is what you want you two lean in again.
This kiss was longer and more passionate, the two of you putting all your emotions into it.
When air became a problem, you pulled away, biting her lip during it.
"You can't do that, especially not here." she states, still dazed from what just happened.
"Why not?" you reply in a teasing tone.
"I might have to show you later, but for now we have a movie waiting for us at home." she exclaims before taking your hand and start walking again.
____________________________
The movie is still playing when you suddenly blurt out "It's You.".
She looks your way, "It's Me?" obviously confused by your random words.
"Yea, You. You were the right choice. You are there for me no matter what, you are always the first person I seek out when something happened or who I want to share news with. Not only that, but you are the person that always makes me feel comfortable and happy with who I am. I can't believe it took me that long to realize that it always has been and always will be you." you explain.
Overwhelmed with what you just said, she simply pulls you into a kiss, showing all her emotions she can't put into words right now.
The kiss full of emotions turns quickly into a make out session, once again biting her lip when pulling away.
"I thought I told you that you can't do that" She comments, eyes a bit darker now.
"What are you gonna do about it?"
"Oh, you will see." she exclaims before pulling you to the bedroom.

Tumblr media
I'm usually not affected by deaths in fiction. Quite the contrary, even though I get teary eyed, feel bad for the dead and those who live on, I end up getting over them. Itachi is the first character whose death I'll never get over. It makes me sad and angry and makes me want to burn the world (Sasuke's reaction, in a nutshell) every time his face comes to my mind, especially in the end.
Tumblr media
Even until this moment he is pretending. About to plan Ametarasu in Sasuke's eyes, pretending he's the bad guy, after Sasuke's eyes. Pretending he might do something horrible any instant now. He's maintained his cold demeanour so far.
Tumblr media
His hand moves to Sasuke's forehead, while he's still pretending.
Tumblr media
Until he's not. He's done his job. He can rest now. At this point, he's probably completely blind. He was nearly blind in the beginning of the battle. He looks exhausted. Not only from the battle but from life itself.
Tumblr media
Then he gives the saddest, purest smile. A smile when he's not lying anymore. He cannot. In his last moments, after lying his whole life, he wants to be Sasuke's big brother, even if it's for a handful of moments that he needs to steal away from the death. He knows he doesn't have enough time and it doesn't matter anymore because Sasuke is going to hate him even now, but he can't help it. Since his childhood, he was repeatedly thrown in the circumstances that continued to take his life away, little by little. This is the smile when he's completely free, under no obligation to do what he doesn't want to do for someone's sake.
This is the smile after knowing his clan, his parents have found justice with his death. This is the smile after Sasuke has defeated him and will be able to live without him. This is the smile of someone who found solace in the last moments of his life. He knows he's hurt Sasuke too, and with his death, Sasuke finds his justice. What he did to Sasuke, in Itachi's eyes, there's no forgiveness. No, don't tell me he didn't feel any guilt for what he did to Sasuke. The narrative didn't have to yell at us to know his guilt.
He smiled in the end because Sasuke was strong enough to protect himself. Because the legacy of the Uchiha would be Sasuke, his little brother. The honourable Uchiha clan has a rightful heir in Sasuke. The one that made their parents proud.
Tumblr media
This is the face of someone who is exhausted beyond measures. At this point, no love can fix him, no warm blanket can offer him warmth in this arctic cold his life was. Nothing. He finds his comfort in death. His nightmares end when he dies.
His life - an endless battle - ends when he takes his last breath, as do his sufferings. He was sick, quite literally, not only from his illness, but of himself. His body weak, almost-blind, coughing blood, too much medicine - he endured all of it for years, tortured himself because an easy death was not option for him.
Tumblr media
And he did all of it for the sake of his beloved little brother...
______________
[It's a request: if you really hate Itachi or have something negative to say about him HERE, please don't. If someone is too bothered about a character they don't like, rant about him elsewhere.]

Hi! Would you consider writing a Pokémon SV Rika x NB! Reader? Sfw, with them going on a fair date? Thank you so much in advance!
I love Rika. Such a fucking icon like?????!?? Peak fem character design 🙏 I want to hug her Clodsire but I would probably die if I did that
Also funny little tidbit about this story - it's mildly inspired by a personal experience of mine!! I went to the county fair with a buddy of mine when it was in town and got up to a bunch of shenanigans, including winning a gigantic plushie that I could barely carry lmao.
Bonus, my excessive knowledge of darts from playing way too much of the dart minigame in both Stardew Valley and Persona 5 Royal!! I did unnecessary research to try and find out how to completely dominate the optional objectives.
~
Rika X NB Reader
Every year, Mesagoza hosts a lovely fair celebrating the inhabitants of Paldea, and their rich culture. A certain member of the Elite Four has more fun than she'd anticipated.
Reader is not the SV protagonist - They're the former champion of Kalos, and took up baking after they were usurped. Their team is left relatively ambiguous, with the only mentioned Pokemon being a Dedenne and a male Pyroar. Reader is also mentioned to be shorter than Rika, because I assume she is very tall based on her ingame model.
Tumblr media
Paldea is a gorgeous region. There's so many sights to see, things to do, Pokemon to meet... But to some, at least to Rika, you hadn't even seen half of it if you didn't attend the annual fair in Mesagoza.
Everybody came together to show the best of what the region had to offer, from the pottery of Alfornada or the cuisine of Cascarrafa. Rika made it a point to visit whenever it began, since it was a pleasant escape from her usual duties as a member of the Elite Four.
For the past two years, though, she always found herself beelining for one particular stall - the one run by Katy. Sure, the pastries were great, but that wasn't the only reason. Katy ran the stall with the help of a special someone, and that special someone was extremely important to Rika.
She could still remember how they first met - they'd come up to the Pokemon League a few years back, but without the intention to battle. Rika had originally assumed they were just there to see the sights, but then they had introduced themselves as the former champion of Kalos, and wanted to speak to Geeta.
She had so many questions, but not enough time to ask them. After they had their chat with the chairwoman (evidently just to praise her work), they walked right back up to Rika and asked her if she'd like to battle. Not as an official challenger, just for fun.
They hadn't even Terastallized their Pokemon, and they still decimated her. She didn't even know Dedenne could so easily defeat three ground types in a row. The moment she returned her Clodsire, she matched right up to them and asked for their contact information.
And there they were now, two star-struck lovers.
Rika hooked her thumbs in her pockets as she walked up the steps by the entrance of Mesagoza, eyes scanning the crowd. She could see the other members of the Elite Four were enjoying themselves - Poppy was happily tugging an amused Hassel about, stopping at anything she found remotely interesting, and Larry was finally relaxing as he enjoyed a snack at one of the various food stalls.
Finally, she spotted what she was looking for. A Dedenne. Now, a lot of people owned Dedenne, sure - but she only knew one person who's Dedenne wore an expert belt like a scarf. She hurried over to the stall, and was greeted with the pleasant aroma of strawberries and cream cheese.
The one she was looking for was preparing the prettiest crepes she'd ever seen, their Dedenne perched atop their head like a particularly electrifying hat. The moment the Antenna Pokemon saw her, he chattered excitedly, leaping off his trainers head and directly into her expecting arms. She'd gotten used to him throwing itself at her - he liked to do that.
"Hello to you, too." She chuckled, slumping over awkwardly to allow the Dedenne to climb up onto her shoulder. The other trainer glanced around worriedly, before they saw where their Pokemon had gone.
"Ah, ma chérie!" They looked positively giddy, the term of endearment slipping off their tongue before they could think. Wiping the strawberry juice off their hands with their apron, they rounded the stall to embrace Rika. "I see Bijou missed you as much as I did."
"I bet it's not nearly as much as I missed you." Rika teased lightly, letting her fingers entwine with theirs even as they split apart. Bijou the Dedenne was clearly thrilled, rubbing his slightly charged cheeks against Rika's face in an obvious gesture of affection. "How has the stall been?"
"Oh, busy busy. But Katy's doing most of the legwork business-wise, I was just helping." They hummed, giving Rika's gloved hand a squeeze. "Do you want to walk around with me?"
"Of course I do. I always do."
"I'll tell Katy, then, she won't mind me taking a break." They smiled, leaving for just a moment to go inform the baker of their plans. Bijou continued to nuzzle Rika's face, whiskers slightly scratching her. A Pyroar, one with a large, glorious mane padded out from behind the stall, tail flicking casually as he took the time to greet Rika as well. She recalled his nickname was Hugo, giving him a light pat on the head. "Alright! Let's go!"
Rika hooked an arm around their shoulders as they returned Bijou and Hugo to their Luxury Balls, all too satisfied to be near them again.
"What's the plan? Where are we heading first?" She mused aloud, using her free hand to gesture broadly across the plaza.
"Mmm... I saw they set up some new games this year. Do you want to check it out?" They asked with a glimmer in their eye. Even if they'd not been champion for some time now, Rika noticed they still had a firey competitive side.
"Let's go then. Try not to knock over all the bottles at the ring toss like you did last year." Rika earned a light slap on the side for that, but she knew it was worth it.
The various games at the fair weren't the main attraction, more of a fun way to occupy particularly antsy kids, but they were very entertaining. Quite a few of them were just rigged games of chance, but there were a handful that were skill-based.
"Rika, look." They nudged her side urgently, gesturing to one of the various stands. An almost comically large stuffed Dudunsparce was hung up at one of the stands, so long its tail nearly brushed along the ground. "It's so cute."
"It is pretty cute." Rika pondered, an arm still slung around the other. It looked like the game was just darts, though it likely had some difficult twist that would make winning feel even more glorious. "...How about I test my skill, eh?"
"Oh, you don't need to-!" They began, but she was already set on getting that ridiculously ginormous Dudunsparce for them. She removed her arm from their shoulders, fixing her gloves with a simple tug.
"How much for a game?" She asked, leaning on the counter casually. The fellow behind the stall perked up when she spoke, setting his hands on his hips.
"It's 200 for one game. Ya get 6 darts, and ya have to score exactly 301 to win the big prize." He explained, pointing at the Dudunsparce. "Get less than 301 and you get one of the little ones. Get more, and you don't earn any prize."
Rika bounced the possibilities back and forth in her head. Scoring exactly 301 points wouldn't be impossible, but it would be rather difficult... She did trust her aim, though. If she got this right the first try, she could get that massive thing for the price of a PokeBall.
"Alright, alright." She made up her mind, fishing her wallet out of her pocket and handing over the money. The man gave her the colorful arrangement of darts, bidding her a sly 'good luck' before ducking out of the way. Rika shot her partner a cheeky grin and a wink, casually swiping her hair out of her face. "How about a good luck charm from you?"
They giggled at her slightly dramatic flair, standing up as tall as they could and looping their arms around her. The kiss they shared was brief, but full of nothing but love... And well-wishes for the dart game.
"Is that satisfactory for you?" They mused as they parted, making a point to "fix" her necktie even if it was already quite neat.
"Very." Rika let her fingers trail down their arms, lingering for as long as she could before she turned her attention back to the game she was supposed to be playing.
While this little game wasn't quite like a Pokemon battle, Rika found herself hyperfocused on achieving her goal. They motivated her to do the best they could in everything, probably just because she loved seeing them smile.
She found herself throwing darts without thought, the first finding its mark in a double twenty. The next three landed nicely in triple twenty, and the fifth barely made it onto a triple fifteen.
Rika twirled the last dart between her fingers for a moment - if she'd done the math right in her head, she was in an excellent position to land the score she needed. She glanced over her shoulder to see her partner giddy with excitement, the spark in their eye reminiscent of a star in the night sky. It was easy to get overjoyed about such a simple thing, and their joy was positively contagious.
Her hands reacted before her brain could, and she tossed the final dart. It landed on the edge of the double eighteen, wobbling precariously as though threatening to slip free... Before staying in place.
"Huh! Guess I shouldn't have expected any less from one of the Elite Four, eh?" The man behind the counter shrugged light-heartedly, before waving vaguely to the plush Dudunsparce. "It's all yours. Thanks for playing."
Rika carefully took the Dudunsparce down from where it had been hung up, slinging it around her shoulders like a weirdly thick scarf.
"So, how do I look?" She leaned toward them with a sneaky grin.
"Like my knight in shining armor." They laughed, practically throwing themselves into her waiting arms. Perhaps Bijou had gotten it from them. "You're too kind, ma chérie. Thank you."
"I'm happy if you're happy." Rika passed the giant plush to them, and they wrapped it around their shoulders like she had. "Want to get some food?"
"Sure, but what do you want to get? This'll be my treat, by the way, you've earned it." They spoke with a voice so firm it could stop a rampaging Tauros, and Rika knew better than to argue. For someone who once nearly burst into tears because they couldn't open a jar, they could be a little intimidating when they needed to be.
"Something sweet sounds good, but what would you recommend?" Rika knew exactly what she was doing by asking this - they were passionate about baking and pastries, even moreso once they'd started working with Katy. The moment she said the word sweet, they perked up, obviously considering the many possibilities.
"Well, I may be biased, but crepes are always tasty - gelato would be nice since it's hot, or maybe-" They went on and on, gesturing wildly as the pair walked aimlessly around Mesagoza. There was nothing Rika adored more than hearing them so excited about something. She loved the sound of their voice, especially when they said her name. Their light accent had a certain charm to it she could barely resist. She was especially fond of their little petname for her, and had absolutely encouraged them to call her that as much as they pleased.
"...Rika, what do you think?" They finally said, pausing in their tracks. She stopped beside them, rubbing her chin in mock thought.
"Hmmm... Gelato sounds good on a warm day like this." She stuck her hands back in her pockets. They were positively beaming, hooking their arm through hers once more. Having a point of contact was so delightful, even such a simple touch.
The couple made their way through the crowds of the Mesagoza fair, the former champion passing the stuffed Dudunsparce over to Rika when they spotted the little stall selling gelato.
The time they spent apart felt much longer than it actually was, Rika waiting patiently to the side as they chatted amiably with the young woman behind the stall. Her attention turned back to the crowds once more, watching the citizens of Paldea enjoy their time together. She swore she saw Nemona and Florian walking together, pulling two other students along with them.
It showed off the essence of Paldea quite nicely - everybody was happy, indulging in the variety of things the region had to offer. It made Rika proud to live there, proud to be part of the league.
"Rika!" They called, grabbing her hand and snapping her out of her little daze. "Let's go find someplace to sit."
"Mhmm, just one thing first." Rika said casually, setting a hand on the small of their back before scooping them up. They yelped in surprise, wrapping an arm around her to support themselves. It was lucky they hadn't dropped the gelato. "Hah, I've always wanted to see if I could do this."
"A warning would be appreciated next time." They snorted.
"No promises."
Rika walked off with her beloved in her arms, and a comically large plush around her shoulders. And, to be frank, she couldn't have been any happier.

It's so interesting reading everyone's interpretations of Bode because I have a completely different one. I don't think he's an abuser. He's a manipulator for sure, but I think, for him, it was a necessary skill given to him by the people who manipulated him. It was a means to survive. Did it make him evil? He's Cal's foil, so yeah, I guess, but I don't think he was ever inherently*evil*. He feared losing his daughter and the means to protect her- Cal had the same types of fears, but whereas Cal *almost* lost himself, Bode absolutely did.
It's tragic, intriguing, and complex. Good story telling imo lol, because everyone can have these sorts of reactions to him and ultimately, we're probably all correct in some way. I wonder if more players would be sympathetic if he'd been given the Joel Miller (Last of Us) treatment ... Maybe Bode didn't deserve a pyre for his actions, but for his daughter and for the man he once was, yes. I think it was the right call and Cere and Cordova being the Jedi they were, I don't think they would've begrudged the decision. Which just, *feels all around*.
I agree - it's a sign of excellent writing that we can all take slightly different things from Bode.
Very nice comparison with Joel. His actions at the end of TLOU are *morally wrong*. He chose the life of one over all of humanity, and yet every time I'm like "KILL 'EM ALL, JOEL! GET ELLIE!!!" because I took them on that journey and there's no way Joel was going to lose her. I also find myself justifying it every time too (Oh, but it's too late for humanity! There's no way to rebuild! It's time to move on BLAH BLAH BLAH) which is interesting. Joel makes the wrong choice, but also the most human one. By that point, he was incapable of making another. Perhaps had Bode been shown to be a better father the way Joel is, he would be more sympathetic. And arguably he was somewhat sympathetic *until* you start finding all those post-game echoes... I was of the belief that he was genuinely on Cal's side up until he defeats Dagan and Cal says Tanalorr is for everyone in need of sanctuary, but then there's that Luchrehulk echo about how Bode's 'almost' letting himself really feel for Cal and yeah, nah. That guy was never in it to find a way out *with* Cal. He was finding a way out through Cal. And yes, to a certain extent, Bode is being manipulated by Denvik, but I'd argue they're in a mutually manipulative relationship. Cal and Cere's differing lifestyles offer Bode two alternative options. The moment he learned of the Hidden Path he had a third option. He could've taken Kata and found refuge with Cere on Jedha. That's not a choice he made, because he's also desperate for revenge against whichever Inquisitor murdered his wife.
ANYWAY, the point I'm also winding my way towards is if I was going to compare Bode to another character in another game, it would be [REDACTED] from Bioshock. I don't care if that game came out in 2007, I just cannot spoil it! But if you know, you know. Bode is less blatantly evil than [REDACTED] but the twist is pretty similar in that EVERY TIME I WISH IT WASN'T HAPPENING.
I do understand why Bode got a pyre (to repeat: Kata was right there, Cal is empathetic, kind and selfless, and he's also mourning the loss of a friend even if that friend never truly existed). I MEAN IF VADER CAN GET ONE, RIGHT?!?!?! In all seriousness, by the end of the game Cal is trying to reconnect with his Jedi heritage, and I think that means showing respect for the Jedi Bode had once been.
THIS GAME IS SO GOOD AND HURTS MY SOUL SO MUUUUUUUUUUUUCH!
Thanks for the Ask!

Etoile/Astarion aaand 99?
Thank you for the ask! What a silly, stupid, appropriate song for them. I don't think we'll actually get a clear cut ending to whatever's going on with the mindflayer worm, but I needed to put something together. Have some song lyrics, and then my writing below the cut. Reference to weird vampire dynamics / desires / daydreams?
.
Why do I try When in your eyes, I just melt again And you'd only stay until our tan lines match Oh, it's over In your, in your Range Rover And I don't, don't know why I want you But you look so pretty When you're breaking me (down)
.
Astarion found Étoile in the the woods, less than five minutes from the source of their salvation. In the morning the ritual would be complete and their travelling band's illithid parasites would be removed. Étoile didn't need Astarion to tell them that he was leaving, their gaze, resigned and sympathetic, made plain their understanding.
The silence of their recognition buzzed like the flies on the wind, like the lonely birdsong in the trees. Sunlight filtered faded through the canopy, and Astarion found himself almost wishing it would rain; the sting of the water would have been fitting against his undead skin, and at least then his last memory of his companion would be in darkness.
"I had hoped we'd have achieved more," Étoile said, "before finding our solution."
"Your solution," Astarion said sharply. He raised a finger to articulate his point as he stepped forward, almost bitter but not quite, because he very simply did not believe the group was considering their options clearly for themselves.
Étoile's lips stretched in disappointment, their golden gaze flickering away as they sought a fitting goodbye, or perhaps a plea. They were not as hollowed as someone more emotional would be; even with their heart on their sleeve, not quite in tatters, Étoile was suitably composed. They clearly knew, as elves and other long-lived races did, how frequent endings were, how shattering, how temporary, how eternal.
Astarion would at least free them from the incremental distress of trying to find their words.
"I cannot stay," he said, in a tone that mocked the seriousness of the bridge they were abandoning between them. Yet his smile was genuine, with the self-assurance of having not lost himself to this rediscovery that Étoile's companionship had allowed him. He had learned what of him remained beneath Cazador's orders and his hatred, and more importantly found that his nature was unchanged; much as it might frustrate others, it was ... a comfort, one he could carry. "Lae'zel will be bound by her oaths and her honor to seek my end for having refused treatment for my parasite. And if I cannot be sure in defeating her at this juncture, then I am soundly unprepared for Cazador."
Étoile stalked closer, and Astarion didn't balk, but he did wonder whether at Étoile's current quiet indecision. He went on, "I have no reason to invite Lae'zel to follow you, by offering somewhere that we might meet, however far in the future."
"And you would never venture so far north as to find me when your goals are achieved ... or..." Étoile wrapped a careful hand around Astarion's elbow, warm and bracing. They shook their head, reestablishing themself and their fragile confidence, blossoming as Astarion rested a hand on the back of their forearm. "I'll try not to worry about you," they said instead. "You've come into yourself, and you're stronger now than you were. A dandy from Baldur's Gate."
"Battle hardened," Astarion agreed with a taunting smile, sharp teeth expressing his delight. "With your blood to thank."
"It would be appropriate if I sprouted tentacles for you to deal with in response to that," Étoile scoffed. Astarion pretended not to notice how the humor in their tone clashed with the unshed tears that crept upon them.
"It would be appropriate if I drained you here, lover, on my way into obscurity," Astarion said instead, picturing Wyll's confused outrage upon stumbling upon their corpse, and then the moments that would precede it, where Étoile's heart would jump in their chest, legs kicking out in desperation. "Would you even fight it?"
Astarion knew they would, and smiled about how Étoile's nose scrunched in discomfort.
"You will survive longer without me," Astarion said, lifting his hand to drift the backs of his knuckles upon their cheek. "And I thank you for not insulting me with empty promises about navigating another way to defeat my enemies, free of the worm."
He leaned in, barely, inviting Étoile to do the same as they had these long weeks, as if for a kiss, but in the instant they should have met, rogue- and vampire-like, he was gone.

Not only do I not regret asking you to "RELEASE THE RAMBLES!", I'm sending you requests for more. Below is a list of questions that I asked @bihansthot , and enjoyed their answers, but because you are so thorough, and answer in such depth, I'm re-asking them to you.
Brace yourself, it's a list. I didnt have time to sort thru them, I just copied and pasted, so if any are questions you already answered before, please feel free to include the links.
"LET US BEGIN!"
---------------------------------------------
In the spirit of potential future writing,  I'm trying to find a building that  would make a good substitution for Lin Kuei temple.
I've tried looking up ancient Chinese military barracks/forts, and have found some stuff,  but is all exterior.  Anyone know of any locations (or several I can cobble together) that would make good inspiration fodder?
---------------------------------------------
So, uhm, religion? What's the Lin Kuei's take on that one? I know they are aware of Gods, they team up with/ encounter Raiden all the time,  and have literally worked for/against Shinook, so I know they recognize higher powers... but I  guess the question is,  do they care?
Do they have a religion,  or spiritual practice that resembles religion? Or do they have a more practical approach "gods exist,  but we just consider them very strong people"?
Which segues into... do they recognize and participate in holidays, or things like birthdays? Or are all their celebrations work related (I.E. successful missions or levels of combat mastery)?
---------------------------------------------
Food.  What foods do they normally eat? What foods do they like?  What foods don't they like? What foods do they absolutely love so much they'll stop what they're doing to get it?
---------------------------------------------
If you had to match the Lin Kuei with a dynasty,  what one would it be? (I know the 2021 movie has the opening in the Ming dynasty, so the Lin Kuei is at least that old,  but given that movie Bi Han hasn't aged in 400 years, and was taken is a child,  its probably much older) (and also know the game probably cherry picked random Chinese things it liked).
What do you think the Lin Kuei's view on artistic culture (probably not the right word) is? I know they are heavily militaristic,  but in the game,  Kuai Liang offers Hanzo tea and he properly prepares it the Japanese way, that says they have something of an education other than just related to fighting?
Lastly,  in the movie,  everything Bi Han does is "for the Lin Kuei", but the Lin Kuei is on Earth (assumedly),  and he is working for a guy who wants to enslave Earth, so what do you think the deal is?
---------------------------------------------
Question about the Cryomancers. I know the game lore says that they are supposed to be rare, but I also know that the Lin Kuei have had at least 5 (grandpa, papa, older, and younger Sub Zero,  and Frost). 4 of which are part of 3 generations that inherited it even with mixed blood (I'm assuming Mama Sub Zero wasn't Cryomancer since they left her alone).
That's a lot of generations in a row for a rare trait... So do you think the Cryomancers as a group have figured out they're being hunted and have chosen to live in hiding?
---------------------------------------------
Lin Kuei society question? I like writing so I also like world building and I think about these things.
Is Lin Kuei society ever covered? I know there is a Grandmaster, a handful master assassins (Sub Zero's, Sektor, Cyrax, etc) and the  movies always have a bunch canon fodder lesser assassins.
And they live in the very isolated Lin Kuei Palace/Temple in Arktika (or wherever it used to be)
But is Lin Kuei (we'll call it "village") ever covered?   Do they have willing servants, kidnapped slaves, or a mix of both? Are there women (non fighter women,  I know there's Frost) or do they employ strictly male help? If there are women, what's their role, and are there children born there? What about Elderly? What about resources,  is everything (from food, clothes, weapons, and the raw materials to create them) grown or manufactured on sight by skilled laborers or do they import/interact with the outside world? How vicious or civil is this society, could you be killed for looking at Sektor wrong or do they value your services to a degree? What's the degree? This is obviously a combat culture,  but is everyone expected to know martial arts of some variety, is it optional, or do they prohibit it among the servants/slaves? How strict are they on things like clothing, food, alcohol,  drugs, "luxuries", or pleasures? Money? If they interact with the world do they recognize and use $$ currency, commodity currency, or a mixture? Internally are the Lin Kuei payed or just provided for? What about illness or injury,  if you're not a master and it a serious injury/illness are you taken care of or do they just give you a quick death?
Etc. That's all the questions I can think of,  but please feel free to answer questions I didn't ask,  if you think of anything else.
Thank you for this wonderful list to talk about! I’m gonna split the answer into smaller parts, for better focusing on each aspect but also so I don’t feel bad for keeping you waiting for ages, lol. For now let’s focus on asks about the religion!
So good questions! I do think they have some spiritual practice(s) because in martial arts the state of a mind is as important as the physical body and religion is one of many ways to shape someone’s mindset from a young age. I do, however, think that Lin Kuei does not worship the gods. They are aware that the gods exist (with Raiden as the thorn in the side) and may even respect their supernatural powers and battle skills but it never has stopped Lin Kuei from desecrating holy places, murdering people and stealing stuff for the best price. So, it seems to me that whatever religion the members of the clan follow, by nature it is rooted in nontheism.
Of course, there is also a chance that Lin Kuei worships some forgotten deity or deities (as a remnant of their ancient connections with Outworld / realms conquered and destroyed by Shao Kahn?) or may even practice ancestor worship which seems like a good way to uphold a widely understood tradition that plays an important role in the discussed community.
The closest thing to religious practice was seen in Mortal Kombat X, when Sub-Zero and his warriors seemed to pray together before statue of god / deity / ancestor / legendary warrior / personalized thing they value the most (sadly, my knowledge about Asian religious practices or faiths is very limited so I don’t have idea if the statue is supposed to represent any real god/religious symbol).
Tumblr media
At the same time, it could be just a bluff since Grandmaster was aware of Cage’s team infiltrating the Lin Kuei territory and used this moment to lure them into a trap. Additionally, Mortal Kombat X comics presented once Kuai Liang sitting before the same statue albeit in a completely different (devoid of reverence?) position.
Tumblr media
Of course, if we take into account Mortal Kombat Armageddon, the game states that Lin Kuei Temple placed in Arctika was actually once the Temple of Delia (the great sorceress & wife of god Argus) that at some point get abandoned and re-used by Sub-Zero’s clan.
Tumblr media
(In the background, we can see a statue of Delia that Lin Kuei does not worship but did not remove for whatever reason. Mixing both old and new games, we can only wonder if MKX!statue is also the remnant of someone else's faith/religion?)
Beside that, Kuai Liang was pretty vocal about Lin Kuei not worshipping the Elder Gods, what was seen in MK11’s intro dialogue with Cetrion
Sub-Zero: The Lin Kuei do not worship the Elder Gods.
Cetrion: We seek gratitude, not worship.
Sub-Zero: I see no distinction.
and personally did not have any reason to pray to the goddess:
Sub-Zero: Why should I pray to you?
Cetrion: Why does a bird flap its wings?
Sub-Zero: I asked a simple question.
In all fairness, in MK11 Kuai Liang seems the most passive-aggressive toward the Elder God while Frost is focused on her ambitions and Noob!Bi-Han just wants to be left alone when bothered by Cetrion. Similar thing happens toward Raiden. Despite gratitude for saving him, Kuai Liang does not spare the god criticism (can’t serve both Elder Gods and Earthrealm, isn’t fit for his role of protector) and in MKX outright says he does not fear divine beings:
Raiden: Sub-Zero...
Sub-Zero: I fear no gods, Raiden.
Raiden': That's why you shall lose.
Surprisingly, Kuai Liang’s interaction with MK11!Fujin sounds less accusing than with Raiden and Cetrion and it is connected closely to their ties with Bi-Han. And maybe Kuai Liang did seek in the past Fujin and other elements to make a peace with them, like he planned to do so in Mortal Kombat 4 Limited comics?
Tumblr media
"I came here to make peace with the gods of the elements that you fought [...]"
Anyway, the accusingly behaviour toward Raiden and Cetrion could be just Kuai Liang’s personal dislike for gods and serious authority issues, which makes sense considering how much he suffered because of their meddling and conflicts.
But honestly?
The available examples of Lin Kuei attitude toward gods, demigods and supernatural beings suggest how little the warriors - especially cryomancers - care for them.
Like, we have Bi-Han in Mythologies, who asked Quan Chi about details of mission:
Sub-Zero: If it's so precious, why don't you get it yourself?
Quan Chi: I cannot enter the temple until the four elements within its walls have been defeated. And I am not on the best of terms with the gods of your realm... especially your god of thunder.
Sub-Zero: Tell me about these elements.
Quan Chi outright said he and earthrealm gods weren’t friends and Bi-Han, reading between the lines, could get the idea that he may end on bad terms with Thunder God. Yet he was interested only in elements (lesser gods than protector of realm?) guarding the temple.
Then Bi-Han beat down four demigods and met a displeased Raiden after Quan Chi got the Shinnok Amulet. His reaction? No fear, like meeting an angry god was a normal occurrence.
Rayden: Do you realize what you've done??
Sub-Zero: I was just earning my living.
Rayden: Your clan's ignorance and greed will cost this entire realm. You must now set things straight.
Sub-Zero: Quan Chi could simply be a lunatic sorcerer. I've never heard of an elder god named Shinnok or of a place called the Netherrealm.
Rayden: Well, you'd better start believing in both, because you're going to the Netherrealm and you're going to bring the amulet back. We must act quickly. I have no dominion in the Netherrealm... You are reality's only hope.
Sub-Zero: I'll do it, Thunder God... but only because I have no choice.
And once he came back from Netherrealm, where he was fixing what he messed up in the first place on Raiden’s order, his abrasive attitude did not change much:
Sub-Zero: Here... the amulet.
Rayden: Impressive, Sub-Zero. Perhaps you will reconcile your reckless past after all.
Sub-Zero: That's it? Not even a thank you?
Of course, to some degree Raiden’s words did have an impact on Bi-Han but even the god’s warning about his soul tainted with evil did not stop him from coming back to Lin Kuei. Bi-Han’s attitude and/or approach to gods seems to change somehow once he was reborn as Noob, but that is a different matter for different times.
Anyway, Mythologies!Bi-Han and MK11!Noob act less aggressive toward gods than Kuai Liang. But then we have Sub-Zero from from the MK novel by Jeff Rovin, who not only is not afraid of gods but outright insult them:
“Wait! Be warned, Shang Tsung. He is cursed!”
“Cursed? By whom?”
Ruthay wailed, “By the immortal Yu.”
Shang Tsung felt cold spiders crawl up his spine. “The demigod Yu?”
“Yes… he who is said to dwell in the underground caverns of Horse Ear Mountain… which is sacred to the goddess Kuan Lin. He who protects the canals… and the tunnels… and looks after all who use them, human and animal.”
“What did our brash friend do to Yu?”
“He… killed a man,” said Ruthay.
“What man?”
“A toll-taker… one who had given up a life of crime… one who had been a partner of the man… you… seek.”
“And how did that crime come to the attention of the spirit of Yu?” Shang Tsung asked.
“The man was killed… slowly disemboweled with a sword… while accomplices forced his wife and his son to look on! After his murder… the man’s remains… were dumped into a canal!”
Shang Tsung raised an eyebrow. “Is that all? I was expecting something truly terrible!”
“It was!” Ruthay shrieked. “When he disposed of the body… in that way … he profaned one of the sacred waterways… of Yu!”
Shang Tsung smiled now. “Then he is definitely the man I want,” he said. “Anyone who is impudent enough to insult a demigod won’t be afraid to attack a member of the White Lotus Society, or the gods who watch after them. I will send Hamachi, Ruthay. When he nears his goal, see through his eyes and guide him!”
Book!Sub-Zero was impudent enough to insult a demigod which is why he was one of Shang Tsung’s favorites. And to be clear - book!Sub-Zero did not regret insulting the demigod at all. Even more! He found humor in it!:
He dwelt in a cave two hundred feet up the face of a cliff by the sea. The mouth of his home was barely wide enough to accommodate a slender adult, and was accessible only by climbing the sheer wall of rock, a feat that was impossible for most adults and daunting even to the few arachnids and marsupials that tried it.
Maybe some of them were even sent by Yu, he thought with a smirk, little assassins who would chastise me for having spilled blood in his precious canal.
The less abrasive attitude toward gods was shown by Cyrax, who talked a bit with Raiden over Bi-Han’s remains. He wasn’t outright antagonistic but wasn’t overall respectful either. He talked with Thunder God like he would talk with any other human being that wasn’t actually Scorpion. Frankly, from the named Lin Kuei only MK9!Smoke actually addressed Raiden in respectful manner, with proper bow and the name of lord
Tumblr media
albeit did he do so because he respects the divine beings or just out of gratitude for saving him, hard to tell for sure.
So yeah, it seems like no matter what kind of timeline or age or medium of the story, Lin Kuei does not fear gods nor pray to them. And the clan has a long history of dealing with Raiden, so the Lin Kuei had first-hand experiences with supernatural beings. Somehow, cryomancers are the most impudent warriors when it comes to dealing with or criticizing the gods.
Interestingly, as much as Lin Kuei warriors don’t care for gods, most of the known to us named characters believe to have - and to care - for their own souls. Sektor and MK11!Frost embraced the Cyber Lin Kuei idea but Kuai Liang, Cyrax and Smoke were opposed to C.I. project out for concern for their souls among other things. Even Bi-Han, to some degree became concerned about his soul after trip to Netherrealm.
Believing in souls is usually a sign of belief in the afterlife, albeit after all of them went through (the change into cyborgs, death and change into Revenants) this is less a matter of faith (religion) and more first-hand experiences. And let's not forget that regularly dealing over the centuries with Shang Tsung who steals people's souls on a daily basis makes it really hard to not believe spirits are real.
Also, an interesting matter of Lin Kuei practices that could have a religious/spiritual ground and/or be an example of ancestor worship is the clan’s funeral rites. I don’t think we actually saw any Lin Kuei to bury their own (especially after warrior’s failure?) and for sure MK9!Cyrax and Sektor did not bother to take care of Bi-Han’s remains. However the sources provide examples of Lin Kuei keeping corpses, most likely of their own leaders or warriors.
And so, we could see human remains:
put in two coffins on each side of statue
Tumblr media
hidden / kept in a block of ice(?) in chamber of Fallen Lin Kuei in which Frost’s frozen body was also laid, but on the altar
Tumblr media
Cyrax’s cyber body was kept and guarded by Sub-Zero (and this is like the only thing that Kuai Liang and Cyber Sektor so far agreed on)
and even Cyber Sektor’s remains, even if just for pragmatic reasons, are kept in what seems to be respectful manner:
Tumblr media
It could be just Kuai Liang’s good nature to honor fallen of his clan (I’m still not sure if Lin Kuei Palace is the new place for Sub-Zero’s clan or the ancient hideout) but even in MK Conquest TV series, after Grandmaster was killed by then-currently-Sub-Zero, there was the farewell ceremony with clothes on display (cause there was not much left of body after freezing and shattering) while new leader gave the speech promising to punish the guilty.
Tumblr media
Which makes me think that Lin Kuei did honor their fallen warriors (especially those exceptional, deserving). Such custom and apparently common belief in soul could also support the ancestor worship - both as some ancient, mythical ancestor(s) connecting warriors into one clan (family) and tradition to follow in the footsteps of forefathers (Bi-Han taking place of his father [old timeline] or grandfather [current timeline] or Kuai Liang taking Bi-Han’s place as Sub-Zero).
My general conclusion about Lin Kuei is that its members believe in souls, have respect and use of spiritual matters (meditation?) and maybe ancestor worship. Whatever the religious / spiritual practices they have over the centuries, it is not something they will share, as the Lin Kuei by nature are secretive people who keep personal things mostly for themselves. The people that joined the clan (Cyrax and Smoke) maybe kept their old, eventual religious beliefs but overall, Lin Kuei warriors did not fear, care for nor pray to gods. They may respect god (Raiden, Fujin) as a person but not because of their divine nature. And even that would not stop them from criticizing said god. Which is pretty much how Kuai Liang and Raiden’s relationship looks like. Grandmaster is grateful to Thunder God for saving him but he won’t blindly follow his authority.
(Kuai Liang has serious authority issues, hasn't he?)
As for holidays, I can’t really see Lin Kuei to follow any specific religious (theistic) special day cause they don’t care much for gods in the first place. Unless they worked undercover and needed to act as normal human beings, religious holidays would mean nothing to them. The warriors may however celebrate their mission success, combat mastery or promotion between themselves or in secret, I think. Like, Lin Kuei did forbid friendship because it was considered warrior’s flaw yet we know some members either were blood-related (Kuai Liang, Bi-Han, previous Sub-Zero - father or grandfather, depending on which timeline is correct) or considered each other a family (Kuai Liang and Tomas Vrbada) and most named characters worked in duos so they have both opportunity and knowledge about each other to celebrate important matters. If they managed to remember anything from previous life, that is. Because from ancient to at least Great Kung Lao’s times most(?) adepts were kidnapped from biological families at a really young age (something around 6 years old). And Mythologies: Sub-Zero takes that even further:
Its warriors are chosen at birth to be raised apart from the workings of day to day civilization and are stripped of their former lives. Only the clan knows their existence. Each of them posses certain skills and abilities that set them apart from normal men. These abilities are passed on from generation to generation and honed throughout the experiences of life.
So, celebrating birthdays doesn’t sound like happening much, unless those with family around could allow themselves such luxury. The clan may however celebrate the day of becoming a fully trained and sworn warrior? Or the fallen warriors? Who knows.
Also, something worth thinking about: in Mortal Kombat Conquest TV series, when the Grandmaster presented newly appointed Sub-Zero to the rest of the clan, he “celebrated” the cryomancer's first official performance as the execution of two men who failed their mission. So, yeah, celebration of something special in (old) Lin Kuei does not necessarily mean anything nice.
(The next part of answer most likely will be focused either on food or architecture / origin of Lin Kuei. Let's hope I will get it written sooner than later)

Summary: “I need him to know.” Will looked into Hannibal’s eyes then, searching for the desperation he could hear in his words. “If I confessed to Jack Crawford now, you think he would forgive me?”
“I would forgive you.” It’s clear that Hannibal’s not talking about the murder, but the betrayal. He would still forgive Will for conspiring against him. “If Jack were to tell you all is forgiven, Will, would you accept his forgiveness?” The double meaning is apparent. Hannibal was asking Will if he would go with him knowing that Hannibal would forgive him. It’s an invitation. One that Will wasn’t sure he wanted to decline.
“Jack isn't offering forgiveness.” Hannibal wanted to say “I am”, but he didn't. “He wants justice. He wants to see you. See who you are. See who I've become. Know the truth.” Will takes another sip of his wine and Hannibal accepts his defeat. He really hadn’t wanted to hurt Will, but it seemed that it would be the only option.
“Still, I suppose we don’t owe Jack that do we?” Will spoke again.
Notes: Okay, I know I rewrote the ending of Mizumono yesterday, but I had this idea while I wrote it and I couldn't help myself.
“Do you know what an imago is, Will?” Hannibal asked.
“It's a flying insect,” Will replied.
“It's the final stage of a transformation. Maturity.”
“When you become who you will be,” Will said, catching on to the point Hannibal was making.
“It's also a term from the dead religion of psychoanalysis. An imago is an image of a loved one buried in the unconscious, carried with us all our lives.”
“An ideal.”
“The concept of an ideal always searching for an objective reality to match. I have a concept of you just as you have a concept of me.”
“Neither of us are ideal,” Will says after taking a long drink of his wine. Hannibal considered what Will had just said for a moment. He had nearly trusted an ideal. He thought that Will would leave with him until he smelled Freddie Lounds on him. Perhaps Will was right, neither of them were ideal.
“We are both too curious about too many things for any ideals.” Hannibal paused a moment, feeling a twinge of hesitation for what he was about to ask. It was completely out of character for Hannibal to grovel, but in recent weeks he had grown accustomed to the idea of running away with Will, and he wasn’t quite ready to give the fantasy up. “Is it ideal that Jack die?”
Will matched Hannibal’s pause. Most would not even notice the hesitation, but Hannibal did.
“It's necessary. What happens to Jack has been preordained.” Will’s voice was cold, free from any emotion. In any other circumstance Hannibal would be proud of how well he schooled his expression, but now it just frustrated him.
“We could disappear now. Tonight. Feed your dogs. Leave a note for Dr. Bloom, never see her or Jack Crawford again. Almost polite,” Hannibal was nearly begging now and Will knew it. Their eyes locked and at once Will understood. Hannibal knew and he was willing to forgive.
“That'd make this our last supper,” Will said, considering Hannibal’s offer. Now, just days away from the sting that he and Jack had planned, Will still wasn’t sure whose side he was really on. Part of him wanted to be good, he wanted to atone for his sins and clear his name for good, because even though he had been acquitted, there were still those who believed he had actually killed all those people.
The other part of him wanted to become what everyone thought him to be. Though he hated to admit it, he had felt a thrill as he killed and mutilated Randall Tier. Even worse was that now thinking about that feeling didn’t make him feel guilty or sick, only enhanced the adrenaline.
If he was being completely honest, half of the thrill was seeing how Hannibal looked at him when he knew what Will had done. The subtle adoration and pride that he was no doubt allowing Will to see. Hannibal’s gaze made Will feel things, things that he had never felt with anyone before, and he wanted to chase that feeling.
“Of this life. I am serving lamb.”
“Sacrificial? Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” Will snorted.
“I freely claim my sin. I don't need a sacrifice. Do you?”
“I need him to know.” Will looked into Hannibal’s eyes then, searching for the desperation he could hear in his words. “If I confessed to Jack Crawford now, you think he would forgive me?”
“I would forgive you.” It’s clear that Hannibal’s not talking about the murder, but the betrayal. He would still forgive Will for conspiring against him. “If Jack were to tell you all is forgiven, Will, would you accept his forgiveness?” The double meaning was apparent.
Hannibal perked up almost imperceptibly.
“Perhaps a note will be sufficient. I didn’t want to leave the dogs alone, but they’ll be fine for a while. Knowing Jack he’ll send a cruiser to my place within an hour after I don’t show up in the morning.”
“Let us prepare then. I would like to be out of the country before Jack realizes that you are no longer his man on the inside.” Hannibal stood and began gathering plates to bring to the kitchen because of course he would want to leave the house spotless. Will helped him with the dishes and wiping everything down. They caught eyes several times, both revving with the anticipation of what was to come. Will considered apologizing for his conspiracy, but when he looked into Hannibal’s eyes he knew he was already forgiven.
It was a little intoxicating to know that he had this kind of control over hannibal. To know that he made Hannibal beg. He wondered how else he could compel him to beg. That was, once they stopped dancing around the physical aspect of their relationship and finally just fucked like they both wanted to.
Once they were finished they retired to the study to write a note. Hannibal wandered around, collecting particular books and knick knacks that he wanted to bring while Will drafted a note. After much thinking and many balled up pieces of paper, Will finally got it right. When he finished, he handed it to Hannibal to read.
“This will do nicely,” Hannibal said. He slipped the letter into an envelope and sealed it with blood red wax and a stamp that bore his initials.
Will watched as the wax dripped. The flow of the thick liquid was giving him all sorts of dirty thoughts. Thoughts of Hannibal pouring that warm liquid all over his body. Thoughts of being covered in other kinds of red liquid. Will had to take a deep breath to steady himself and bring some blood back up to his head.
When the wax had dried, Hannibal handed the letter to Will, fingers brushing against Will’s skin tenderly.
“I have a surprise for you,” Hannibal said, hand coming to grip Will’s wrist.
“Oh?” Will replied.
“Come with me.” Hannibal led Will upstairs, never letting go of his wrist. Will had only been to the upper floor of Hannibal’s house a few times, and never in the dark, so he didn’t really know where they were going. He had two ideas, one much more enticing than the other, but both equally likely.
As it turned out, neither of his assumptions were correct. Hannibal led him to a closed door at the end of the hallway and knocked.
“May we come in?” He asked. Will didn’t even have time to question who was in there before the door was being opened from the inside. Standing in the doorway was none other than Abigail Hobbs.
“Hi Will,” She said, a small smile playing on her chapped lips.
“Abigail?” Will asked, voice barely audible. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Had Hannibal drugged him? Was he hallucinating?
“How are you here? You’re dead,” Will said.
“Not dead, just misplaced,” Hannibal replied, “they never found a body, well, not a whole body at least. It was merely a charade.”
Abigail tucked her hair back to show Will the flesh where her ear had been. It was healed over by now, but it still brought a wave of bile up in Will’s throat.
“You’ve been here this whole time?” Will asked, choking down the anger that was building in him. There was no sense getting angry now, especially when he was teetering on the edge of a new beginning.
“I’m sorry,” Abigail said, tears welling in her eyes.
“I forgive you,” Will said. Abigail took two big steps forward and wrapped her arms around Will’s middle, burying her tears in his shirt. He brought a hand to her hair and stroked, both soothing her and assuring himself that she was really there and really alive.
“Thank you,” Will whispered to Hannibal. He wasn’t sure what he was thanking him for. Maybe for keeping Abigail alive, maybe for bringing him to her, maybe just because he didn’t know what else to say.
Hannibal’s hand came to rest between Will’s shoulder blades, fingertips shooting electricity down his spine.
“I do not wish to rush you two, but we must be going,” Hannibal said, “there is still much for us to do and little time to do it.”
Abigail pulled back from Will and wiped her eyes on her sleeve, sniffling a few times.
“Will, would you care to help me pack?” Hannibal asked.
“Yeah, sure.” Will cast one last glance at Abigail before following Hannibal to his bedroom.
“Everything in that top drawer must come,” Hannibal said as he set a large suitcase on the bed. Will began transferring the carefully folded garments from the dresser to the suitcase while Hannibal sorted through his suits to find the ones he liked best.
Will and Hannibal's hands brushed for what felt like the 500th time that night as they both attempted to place clothing in the suitcase at the same time. Their eyes met and there was a moment of contemplation before they pounced.
Will dragged Hannibal to the floor and straddled him, hands balling up around fistfulls of Hannibal’s jacket as he pressed their lips together. Hannibal kissed back with equal fervour, hands sliding back to cup Will’s ass. Will moaned into the kiss and rutted his hips against Hannibals. Hannibal bit Will’s lip, not stopping until he drew blood.
They broke away, panting and breathing each other in. Hannibal brought one hand to Will’s cheek and stroked, the pad of his thumb brushing over Will’s parted lips. Will sucked the digit into his mouth, tongue lapping at the sensitive skin.
Will ground his hips down, ass rubbing against Hannibal’s rapidly hardening cock. The older man stared up at him in wonder, lips parted and eyes blown wide. He withdrew his hand, swiping his thumb along the bleeding cut on Will’s lip until the skin was stained red. Then he brought it to his own mouth, his eyes rolling back as he savored the metallic taste of his lover’s blood.
“You taste divine Will,” Hannibal said, deep voice sending tremors through Will’s body. That was it, that was the breaking point for Will.
“Take your fucking clothes off,” He demanded as he scrambled off of Hannibal to remove his own clothes.
“Such crass language,” Hannibal scolded, clicking his tongue disapprovingly, “whatever should I do about that?”
Hannibal was trying his best to regain some of the power he had lost in this exchange. Will would let him believe that he did, if only to sate his ego, but Will knew deep down that he was in control. He had known since before Hannibal had pleaded with him that he was in control here. Hannibal had several layers to his persona. The first was the polite, yet slightly eccentric doctor who loved good food and opera, behind that was the calculating psychopath cold, and emotionless. His true personality was hidden deep within himself, but Will was able to see it, after all, he had not yet met a person he couldn’t read.
The person that Hannibal truly was was driven by his emotions. Anger and hurt bubbled under his skin, suppressed by years of burying everything akin to a feeling deep below the surface. He was intensely narcissistic and hedonistic. Everything he did was to fulfill his desires. He ate to satiate his hunger, he killed to assuage a compulsion. He acted solely in his own self interests, and right now Will was his interest. That gave Will ultimate power over Hannibal. He wanted Will in every sense of the word, and would do nearly everything to have him.
Perhaps what solidified Will’s control was the fact that he was aware of this while Hannibal wasn’t. Hannibal had spent so much effort repressing feelings that he genuinely believed that they were never there in the first place. Will knew about Hannibal’s nature, not from the beginning, no he was fooled like everyone else at first, but certainly longer than he let on. He only raised the issue with Jack when he was in danger.
Will put on the facade of being overly emotional, of being unstable, but deep down he was something different entirely. That’s why he was so good at “faking” the coldness he showed with Hannibal, it was never fake, the emotions were fake, and Hannibal was none the wiser. This was Will’s game and Hannibal was barely aware he was playing.
“Will?” Hannibal asked, pulling Will from his thoughts. He kneeled in front of him, now fully nude, his erection jutting out proudly from a bed of well trimmed blonde curls.
“Fuck me,” Will insisted, trying to pass his momentary spacyness off as fascination with the admittedly impressive cock that hung between Hannibal’s legs.
“As you wish.” Yes, as Will wishes. Hannibal will do exactly as Will wishes.
Will doesn’t wait for any more negotiations. He turns around and sinks to his elbows, thighs spread wide to accommodate Hannibal. He heard the older man’s breath catch as Will displayed himself.
“Oh Will, you truly are exquisite. Beauty incarnate.” Hannibal mused. Will watched between his legs as Hannibal reached into the bedside table for a bottle of lube. Hannibal poured the lube onto his fingers, then pressed them to Will’s hole, tracing the rim to get it nice and wet.
Will buried his face in his crossed arms to stifle a moan. The last thing he needed was for Hannibal to know exactly how sensitive he actually was and to exploit that fact. They didn’t have much time and Will was really just looking to be fucked.
Finally, one finger breached Will. It slid in with little resistance and Hannibal added a second. His thumb came to press against Will’s perineum as he scissored his fingers. Will let out a choked sob when Hannibal’s other hand tangled in his hair and pulled his head up sharply.
“I want to hear you Will. I want to hear exactly how much you like this.”
“God, just fuck me already Hannibal,” Will begged, “I’m ready, just get in me.”
Hannibal withdrew his fingers at once. Will didn’t even have a chance to get a word out before Hannibal was pressing his cock inside.
“There you go sweet boy, taking my cock so well, like you were made for it. Like you were born to take me.”
Will had never heard Hannibal speak so lewdly before, but he liked it more than he would ever care to admit. Not that he even could right now with Hannibal thrusting into him with punishing force, hitting his prostate every time.
Hannibal still had one hand in Will’s hair. The other was gripping his hip so tight he would undoubtedly have finger shaped bruises in the morning. He brought his lips down to Will’s shoulder, placing a few gentle kisses there, and that would simply not do. Will needed him to be rough, he needed to be fucked hard.
“Harder,” Will grunted, “come on Hannibal, you can do better than that. Do it like I know you want to. Hurt me.”
“Are you sure you can handle it?” Hannibal panted.
“Fuck yes, give it to be Hannibal, fucking ruin me.”
Hannibal complied immediately, using all of the force he could to pound into Will like he was trying to split him clean in half. He bit down hard on Will’s shoulder, just short of drawing blood.
Will rocked back to meet every thrust, letting out a litany of pathetic noises that he probably should have been embarrassed about. Hannibal was groaning now too, grunting like a beast in Will’s ear as he shoved in impossibly deeper.
Will’s orgasm was so sudden, he didn’t even feel it coming. In an instant his body went rigid as white hot pleasure coiled in his abdomen and he came completely untouched.
After coming for what felt like hours, he dropped to the floor, thighs shaking too hard to support himself any longer.
Once he had caught his breath, Will rolled over onto his back and spread his legs.
“Keep going,” he told Hannibal, “I want you to use me to make yourself come.”
Hannibal didn’t need to be told twice before sliding back into Will. He hoisted the younger man’s knees up over his shoulders to get a better angle as he slammed in over and over again.
At last, Hannibal gave a final hard thrust and spilled inside Will, coating his insides with his seed. He pulled out and laid on the floor next to him, breathing hard and trembling.
“I would have run away with you a long time ago if I had known that was in store for me,” Will panted, struggling to sit up.
“If I saw you every day, forever, Will, I would remember this time,” Hannibal said, reaching over to brush a lock of curly hair behind his ear.
Will smiled and kissed Hannibal again. It was softer this time, full of much more affection, especially on Hannibal’s behalf.
“I would sit here with you for eternity Will, but I fear that we must leave soon. We would not want to keep Abigail waiting.” Hannibal said when they pulled away.
“Of course, but first will you promise me something?”
“What is it that you desire?”
“Do that again as soon as we get to wherever we’re going.” Hannibal grinned and cupped Will’s cheek.
“I would gladly have you every day, my dear Will.”

A Comprehensive Analysis of Eustass 'Captain' Kid
I've been wanting to write this for awhile now as Kid is undoubtedly one of my favourite characters in One Piece. Also, I'm majoring in Psychology so I can't help but think about why I love his character so much.
Disclaimer: As we all know, Kid doesn't have much screentime so it's quite difficult to understand his character completely. So, whatever you read will be my own intepretation of his character (based on the little amount of scenes that he has). Of course, you don't have to agree with it but it might give you a bit of a different perspective!
So, withour further ado, let's begin!
*P.s I'll try to make it flow in but it might end up really messy so I apologize for that*
Note: NOT SPOILER FREE!!!
1. Assumptions
I guess I'll begin with some of the common assumptions of his character based on posts/videos I've seen about his character. They frequently refer to Kid as 'cruel' or 'heartless'. Basically, there are many negative remarks about his character that makes him seem like a total psychopath.
Their reasoning for this would be because:
- He mentioned that he would kill anyone would mocked him
- His high bounty = He's notorious & violent
- The way he acts makes him come off as a bloodthirsty pirate
From another standpoint, I can see why people might think that way about him. The way he speaks and acts does make him look villainous. In addition, his primary role in One Piece is to be Luffy's rival. (I'll expand on this point later.) So, one might think that his morals would contrast Luffy. Whereas Luffy is the kind and benevolent pirate, Kid is the 'bad guy' who is cruel and heartless. The question is, though Kid is rival character, why does that necessarily mean that he would be a bad guy? I strongly disagree that Kid is a psychopath and that he is heartless. Firstly, the term 'psychopath' shouldn't be used so loosely. A true psychopath would have no regard for other's feelings which is not true of Kid because he cares very much for his crew. On the other hand, Doflamingo would be a good example of a psychopath. Next, even if Kid WERE a psychopath, not all psychopaths are violent. So it'd be nice if people stopped misrepresenting psychopaths.
Now, if there is one thing I learned in psychology, is that people tend to make assumptions about a person's actions as part of their personal dispositions rather than because of situation. This would be the Fundamental Attribution Error (FAE). What do I mean by this? Let's take a look at Kid's scenario. He mentioned killing people who mocked his dream. Killing people would make people automatically assume that Kid is 'violent'. But here is a different perspective, what if 'mocking him' had meant that they tried to start a fight with him? Provoking other people repeatedly would cause anybody to get angry. There are many other characters who acts this way as well. Sure, Luffy doesn't go as far as to kill them but I'm sure that many other characters do because they are PIRATES.
In contrast, I think of this situation as Kid standing up for himself. He believes in himself and he would beat anyone up who tells him otherwise. If you think about it, Luffy is kind of similar because he ends up fighting anyone who tries to stop him from attaining his goal.
That is pretty much all the assumptions that people make about his character. It's sad how they don't delve deeper but fret not!! I still have more to say.
2. Pre-Timeskip vs Timeskip Changes/Growth as a character
During Pre-timeskip, Kid is seen as overconfident. I actually agree with this statement quite a lot. His high bounty was a result of his reckless behaviour. He could easily triumph over anyone before the timeskip. That was when he started to become a little too full of himself. Consequently, he suffered heavy losses. His arm was taken by Shanks, his crew was utterly defeated by Kaido (curse you Apoo) and his reputation as the top supernova was instantly lost to Luffy. His true character development was in the Wano arc where we see how he starts to take a step back and re-evaluate his situation. The most obvious evidence for this was when he got captured in Udon. He was quiet (before Luffy's arrival) and deep in thought. So many things had happened to him, you could even argue that he was feeling slightly lost and helpless (not depressed) because he was utterly defeated. The motivation and drive he had in pre-timeskip was shattered- Until Luffy arrived of course. When Luffy arrived, he was battered and bruised but he was still ready to fight. Kid, who saw how Luffy still had his fighting spirit, was somehow inspired to keep on fighting. It's almost as if Luffy is Kid's drive to be stronger.
So, what does this all say about Kid?
I think that this makes his character believable as it can represent real life. There are some points in our lives where we could be the greatest but, sometimes, life can be pretty cruel too. If you get too cocky or overconfident, the world will punish you. I saw a comment that says Kid is Luffy but without the plot armour. That is very true. Kid isn't perfect. He made tons of crappy decisions and dealt which the consequences. I'd say he's as reckless as Luffy, perhaps LESS reckless than Luffy but he suffers more than Luffy does. While Luffy could bask in glory, all Kid got was the short end of the stick. I think that is the reason why I find Kid such an appealing character- because its an accurate representation of real life. Sometimes you can try as hard as someone else but you won't always get the spolight.
The other appealing aspect is his persistence. He made mistakes and bad decisions but he knows that he can't undo them and has to move on. Kid isn't as lucky as Luffy because he didn't have someone like Rayleigh to train him so, he had to put in more effort somehow. The main point is, he had to learn everything the hard way. Yet, he still strives to be the best which is very befitting of a rival character.
3. interactions & Personality
Another thing I frequently see when people Kid and Luffy is that: People say that while Kid makes enemies, Luffy makes allies which is why he has so much support from others around him. I was thinking about this a lot and I can't help but disgaree. I saw another post where they mentioned Kid's MBTI personality is INFJ which made me think even more about that statement. From here on, I will include several headcanons about his character as well.
Let me offer you a different perspective. Perhaps Kid isn't good at expressing his feelings. The way he speaks may come off as cold which makes other people dislike him because they think he is rude whereas he simply doesn't know how to communicate with others very well. Luffy is no doubt an extrovert, seeing how he is easily able to interact with others. Kid on the other hand, if he is an introvert, it could be an explaination to why he doesn't have many interactions with others. I don't see him as someone who's very 'sociable'. So he could experience some difficulty when communicating his feelings. He's shown to be closer to his crew more than anyone else. He is deeply respected by his crewmates because he is sensitive to their needs as well. He isn't the tyrant that everyone paints him to be, he earned that respect by first respecting his crewmates. Also, he would essentially DIE for any of his crewmates. This part is quite self explainatory if you've read the chapter where they revealed what happened to Kid and Killer in Wano.
I just want to add that while Killer suffered so much in Wano, imagine how much it hurt Kid to see his first mate suffer and how he couldn't do anything about it. The expression on his face is perfectly the anger he had towards Kaido, Apoo and more importantly, HIMSELF for not being strong enough. Yet, people call him heartless though he would literally die for Killer.
But anyways, Kid is an excellent listener and he cares very deeply for people he is close to. I just think he's bad at communicating. Look at the way he talks to Luffy. In Wano, you can see how Kid actually does LIKE Luffy as a rival. He just has trouble expressing himself. Anyways, this is just a headcanon but I think that he's rather sensitive to other's feelings- Especially when it comes to his crew. I really like the idea that he's an INFJ because he seems more like the 'advocate' type of character. I still think he makes a very good leader but his approach would contrast Luffy's.
4. Intelligence
I could probaly go on forever about why I love Kid but this is another thing that I see about Kid and kind of annoys me. I'm not sure why everyone seems to think he's a dumbass. Like REALLY. I think he's pretty intelligent. He even kept tabs on the whole SMILE situation and Doflamingo and planned the alliance. He IS intelligent but his recklessness just makes him seem like an idiot.
Kid isn't perfect, he is flawed just like a real human being would be. By no means is he a GOOD person but I don't think he is as 'cruel' or 'bad' as people paint him to be. He cares a lot for his crew. He is very driven by his own personal values and he wouldn't 'change' for anyone. He believes in himself and if anyone tells him otherwise, he would simply beat them up. He isn't happy go lucky like Luffy, he is much deeper than that. He would consider his options and plan- to a certain extent because he is also quite idealistic. Hence, the reason why I feel like his character is such an interesting one is because there is a lot of opportunity for him to grow and stray away from stereotypical anime character traits. His character is believable because his personality is realistic, it could reflect a real human being.
TLDR: Stop sleeping on Kid.
With that, thanks for coming to my ted talk.
Anyways, that's it for now! I'll make a part 2 if I feel like I want to add something. If people like this, I'll consider making another analysis for other characters. Currently I have Law, Ace and Sabo planned in mind but we'll see how it goes.
Thanks for reading!

Summary: Your normal life with a normal, yet inconsistent job gets drastically changed when your dreams come true. Sounds boring right?
What happens when all of this occurs, but you’re still doing something you love AND getting a large sum for it? Now there’s something to think about, and it’s definitely not what you’re thinking.

»»————- <<prev | next >> ————-««
  “Uh, no you don’t.”
I gasped when the phone was suddenly plucked from my hands. It had been a struggle to find a close-by Uber service, but one had honestly just popped up!
“Bang PD-nim?”
The older man chuckled and returned the phone to my trembling hands. When had he even appeared next to me? He was dressed so casually that I had to look twice to make sure it was even him.
“I can drop you home for a lot less, trust me (Y/n).” He laughed again, and it was obvious I had no choice but to follow him speechlessly. A week or so ago, this would have appeared as quite strange and inappropriate to many people, but I knew the stout CEO well enough now to place my trust in him.
“T-thank you so much, you really don’t have to…” I spluttered and gawked when his expensive car came into view. The reason why he’d even come along to the concert was still unknown. Up until this point, I’d been under the impression he usually didn't get involved with the showy stage side of things, but even so, he had obviously come of his own accord.
“It’s fine. After everything you’ve done for us tonight, it’s the least I can do.” Bang PD sighed, and I knew he was thinking about Soojin’s brashness from earlier in the day.
“That’s completely okay, I really enjoyed myself tonight,” I said calmly, thinking hard about what I was about to suggest. “Actually, I wouldn’t mind helping out like this more often. If they ever need anyone, that is.”
Bang PD smirked at me, and I knew he was teasing at the underlying feelings I had for the members in particular. The fact that I was already missing them and it hadn’t even been an hour said quite enough. There was no denying that it did play a big role in my offer, but it wasn’t everything of course.
“I can think of a few reasons why, but unfortunately it’s not in your job description.”
I laughed and exhaled in slight disappointment, my shoulders sagging in defeat. “I know, it’s only if they need someone though.”
The car ride was silent for a few minutes, and we would be reaching my house soon after seeing how fast his flashy car zipped around the streets and backroads of Seoul.
“I have something serious to say to you, (Y/n).”
I immediately grew apprehensive at his tone. I mean who wouldn’t after hearing something like that? I picked at the leather seat underneath me and willed my eyes to not drift towards the scenery rocketing past the window. I needed to show him my full attention here.
“I came tonight for one reason only, and that was to monitor you.”
Back at it again with the bluntness it seemed. Classic Bang PD.
“Monitoring me? That sounds kind of sinister.” I pursed my lips and trained my gaze onto the man’s bespectacled face. He wasn’t looking back, but it wasn’t as if I expected him to while he was driving anyway. I was, on the contrary, glad to not be confronted with his piercing eyes, because the anxiety about the direction this conversation had taken would have surely consumed me whole.
“It’s not that bad,” he said while chuckling, “I just wanted to check up and see how you were doing, but you never saw me backstage. Heaven forbid Soojin-ssi actually informed you of anything properly. I had an opening in my schedule, and I hadn’t visited the concerts for a while.”
I shook my head and laughed along with him. He knew exactly of his assistant’s behaviour, and it seemed he definitely wasn’t the only one. This wasn’t the outcome I was expecting, but I felt appreciative of his caring nature, nonetheless.
“What I noticed…” he then drew out, and a sense of uneasiness fell onto us both.
“Was your relationship with Bangtan themselves.”
Now the hammer dropped. Horror lit up like a wildfire inside me, and I suddenly thought about all my interactions with the boys so far. Dazed eyes scanned the disappearing road in front of me as the cogs within my mind started breaking to pieces. A simple touch could be considered crossing the line with them. I was only a mere staff member, therefore I couldn’t expect anything more or less than simply that, but thinking about it now reminded me that I definitely had not been acting like it.
I must have gone too far. Hell, I literally hugged two of them tonight! That’s a recipe for scandal disaster right there, what the fuck (Y/n).
“I can see your brain working, please don’t overthink about what I just said,” Bang PD’s tone became louder as if trying to speak over the flurry of thoughts. I couldn’t help but swallow thickly and sat back into the plush car seat behind me. I rubbed the clamminess off my palms and steeled myself to hear whatever he had to say next.
“Sorry PD-nim, I know I’ve been…closer than I need to be, I guess.”
He suddenly let out a wheeze of a laugh, and I wished to open some kind of window into his mind just to understand what was happening. He took one glance at my furrowed brows and stifled another laugh.
“No way (Y/n), I wasn’t going to say it was a bad thing at all! Well, hear me out please. I want to be serious for a minute.”
I let out a bellowing sigh of relief and managed to let any amusement die down. If he wanted to be this serious, it meant that something extremely important needed to be understood.
“The boys are solely focused on their idol careers, so when it comes to hiring new staff we try to avoid potential ‘risks’, so to speak. It’s a precautionary thing, but – you don’t have to concern yourself with that notion, because you’ve managed to prove yourself again and again. (Y/n), you’ve been working with us for only a few weeks now, but you’ve only solidified my opinions.”
I was smiling now, because the man’s words were so heartfelt and honest. I wondered straight away if he was about to open up to me somehow. This didn’t usually happen, right? Or maybe it did, because he just liked being a boss that staff members could be comfortable and adaptable with.
“You have the best of intentions, I know this for sure, but that isn’t the problem,” he continued while gaining a more solemn tone, “The issue itself, is attachment.”
Another hammer, ah yes. I should have seen this one coming from a mile away.
“Now, I don’t have a problem with you and the boys getting along well. Many of the staff are close with them, and it’s not something out of the ordinary because there are so many faculty members that have been with us from the beginning. It’s only natural.”
When he turned to gauge my response from over the rim of his glasses, I found myself nodding in earnest understanding. I completely agreed with what he was saying, because there was no way you wouldn’t form a substantial bond with the very people who had helped you rise to the top. I couldn’t quite put my finger on what the man was trying to get at exactly, though.
“You-”
He stopped and cleared his throat loudly, obviously racking his brain for the right words to use. It left me dumbfounded, because Bang PD had always come right out with whatever was on his mind. Sometimes it was a little too harsh, but most people valued his opinions and appreciated his level of honesty whether it hurt them or not. This industry did teach their employees to deal with no-nonsense attitudes.
“Not including the backstage crew at the venue, you have been one of the youngest staff members we’ve hired in a while.” He finally sighed, and my mind created the imaginary train tracks steering straight to the point.
“I’m not fearing the attachment you may develop if you continue to spend time with them, but I do fear things going awry or their focuses being taken away from their careers. Usually, I would remove you from the situation without question right away, but I saw you with them tonight-”
I flooded with sudden embarrassment when he looked upwards to think again, as that meant he had most likely seen the hugging too. There was a cold dread settling into my stomach at the thought of getting ‘removed’. That would mean the cost of my job and everything I had worked for so far. I would feel empty, because now that the boys were in my life, I didn’t want them to just vanish.
Oh God, why had I let myself get attached already??
“I understand, actually,” I murmured, “and it would probably be for the best if I didn’t see them as much.” I managed to force it out through half gritted teeth. It really did hurt me to say, but I could see that it was the best option. Who knew what hardships would come later if I continued the way I was going?
“That’s not what I’m saying, I said I saw you with them tonight, but I didn’t mean it in a bad way.” Bang PD started to slow down the car, and I knew we had finally reached the entrance to the carpark of my apartment building.
At his statement, I couldn’t help but feel confusion tickling the edges of my mind. The founder of Bighit shifted sideways in his seat to give me his full attention. Now, he could finally focus without having to divert his thoughts to not crashing and killing us both.
“They were nervous wrecks before the concert started. And I know this because I went in there just before you arrived to have a chat with them all. I could tell that Namjoon-ah would be just fine, and they all would’ve been in the end, but seeing the members like that is never comforting.”
I was fully enraptured by the man’s words, because I had never heard him speak with such a deep and sympathetic tone before. I speculated on when he had last talked to somebody like this.
“There wasn’t much I could do. I’ve supported them through the years, and they know they can always confide in me if they ever need to,” he continued while nodding forlornly. “But when it comes down to live events like these, there’s only so much I can say to help them out. And I'm rarely around as it is.”
The sudden silence urged me to convey my thoughts on the matter. “It’s nearly impossible to get rid of the nerves and doubts once they’re there anyway,” I spoke softly, eyes distant as I fiddled with my own hands uneasily. The atmosphere was more disconcerting than ever now that we had managed to find the time to stop and think.
“That’s what I thought too, but then you came in.” Bang PD chuckled and started tapping his fingers on his leather lined steering wheel to an imaginative rhythm.
“I literally watched as you made their tension disappear like it was nothing. Many people envy you when it comes to your ability to read a situation like that, because it was like you knew exactly what to do, and I’m sure they appreciated it more than you know.”
I almost choked at his sincerity. I hadn’t seriously done all that much, just held a small conversation before the show had commenced. It was only because one of the stylists had asked me to help out, otherwise I may not have even made contact at that time.
“Really? Thank you so much for saying that,” I dipped my head lightly, because I also wanted to hide the sudden spell of emotions from showing too much.
“Afterwards as well.” He sighed, and I watched him begin to smile with approval. “They were so happy, but you made them even happier in an instant. Jimin-ah too. Anyone who cared to watch could see it.”
At this point, I couldn’t help but laugh in a bizarre mixture of disbelief and amazement. Maybe I had just felt so ecstatic in their presence that I hadn’t even known their behaviour was changing too.
“This isn’t something they’ll likely admit, but I think I have an idea about how they’re feeling.” Bang PD cleared his throat. “You might just be the consolation they need, (Y/n). They have always had each other and their many supportive staff to help them find their footing, but I think you might be the key to keeping them there. To reassure them, using your viewpoint as a fan of sorts.”
He finally stopped to breathe, and my mind was churning once again at the revelation. He wasn’t even finished, and it seemed he had much left to say.
“You’re basically like a spokesperson. I know they wouldn’t have reason to doubt or disregard anything you have to say about them from their music choices to even their stage images. Min Yoongi came to talk with me the other day, telling me all about how he’d found a way to get over a certain stump in lyric writing.”
“Ah, that boy.” I muffled another chuckle and the softest of smirks made its way onto my features. I was honestly so happy to even think about being a positive influence in their lives, it made me glow from the inside out.
“It’s why I’ve made a decision,” Bang PD spoke again, and I recognised the familiar firmness to his tone that usually meant he was about to drop something big.
“Taking into account what I mentioned before about the attachment, I think it could actually help us out instead. As their presence worldwide grows, so will the pressure, and I want someone they’re comfortable with to be there for them as a support.”
“So, that’s me? What will happen? What am I going to have to do exactly?” I stammered, feeling considerably warmed and buzzed with excitement at the producer’s words. Everything he was declaring sounded like a wistful dream to me right now, but to say I also wasn’t feeling the pressure would be a lie.
“Nothing extravagant just yet.” He held up a hand while stifling a chuckle. “But it’s why I’ve decided to involve you in more activities.”
Okay, now the excitement was ready to detonate.
“And that’s why I’m asking you to go along with them on their next tour.”

Zombie Army 4: Dead War - Review
Did you notice that just a few weeks ago, Valve came out and said in uncertain terms that there'll be absolutely no Left 4 Dead 3 anytime soon? Well, the terrible news for several is astounding for Zombie Army 4: Dead War, which couldn't have hoped for better timing. He's here to follow those four-player cooperative steps - except that his zombies also are Nazis, and sometimes once you kill them you get a super-gross gross kill. It definitely scratches the itch, although the few new ideas it injects don't really reinvigorate the genre that Bill, Coach, Zoey, and Francis have built.
It may sound familiar on the entire, but Zombie Army 4 manages to separate itself from the already sizable horde of zombie cooperative shooters in some fun ways. For starters, the story is delightfully absurd, with occult forces bringing the Nazi army back from the dead, apparently from the literal bowels of Hell. His campaign of about eight hours ends with a ridiculous and surprising final battle that's worth seeing uncontaminated. there's also a simplified Horde mode if you only want to remain on one position and see what percentage waves you'll face as you are trying out different weapons. I prefer the variability and forward momentum to play the entire campaign, but the Horde offers many opportunities for intense shootings and last-second wins.
The WWII setting is disgusting and filled with blood, but during a creative way during which I could not wait to ascertain what I might have fought after. I enjoyed facing powerful enemies like zombie flamethrowers with explosive gas cylinders on their backs, Nazi zombie generals whose hearts must be removed to stop them from spawning more enemies and managers like tanks that reveal gigantic ribs when their armored sides are made the jump. And it's made all the more exciting by a superb soundtrack that seems straight out of the classic zombie movie George A. Romero from 1985, Day of the Dead - my only complaint about music is that I wish it had been mixed louder and channeled more often.
There is a layer of strategic dismemberment within the brainless massacre.
There's a little quite running and shooting because the way you shoot zombies encourages you to face the walking dead during a more nuanced way: getting a particular number of kills unlocks special abilities, like enhanced sniper shots or reload of superfast rifles, but you furthermore may have the likelihood to recover health by taking close kills. Killing a variety of zombies from afar to realize the proper to run and recover some health adds a layer of strategic dismemberment to the brainless massacre.
Additionally, there's clearly some Doom inspiration that helps keep the action moving, with some zombies offering ammo, grenades, or health packs if you tread on them after they're defeated. This led to some great moments during which I recovered from being cornered by coitus interruptus an enormous wave, healed myself with close fatalities then trampled on enemies on the bottom to recover ammo before rushing to subsequent target. Where it appeared to me that it had only been done a couple of moments before, I found myself at my best and prepared for everything that happened afterward without even an ammo cache pitstop.
The layouts of the eight levels of Zombie Army 4 (and the smaller final comparison) are neat and do an honest job of contextualizing why you would like to maneuver from point A to point B beyond basic survival. Sometimes you're exploring an abandoned zoo, other times you're getting fuel for a ship so it can make its way down a canal, or you're learning pieces of a bomb to mix at the top of the stage. the amount doesn't look radically different, but all of them have interesting layouts that are fun to explore and are disturbing and disturbing in their own way. The goals are simple enough where you and your friends will never be confused about what to try to next, but interesting and varied enough that it doesn't appear to be you're always doing an equivalent thing. There are never times when cooperative play is required - you'll easily play alone if that's how you roll - but the more players take part the action the upper the problem it automatically climbs and therefore the more important teamwork becomes.
You can easily play alone if that's how you shoot.
I like the crazy sprint to finish this sort of goal, but I used to be less hooked into the areas where you've got to carry your position for a particular period of your time. These defensive scenarios aren't all that common, but curiously enough Zombie Army 4 constantly offers you anti-personnel mines and electric cables that are not that useful when you're on the run rather than preparing for an assault. And even during the checkpoints once you have time to put the traps, most of them went after the primary wave and returned to plain shooting anyway.
The upgrade system is additionally rewarding, to some extent. The persistent progression of the character allows you to deepen across the board, so whether you're in Horde mode, playing the campaign alone or with friends, you'll add new skills like better defense or faster positioning of anti-personnel mines, among others. There aren't enough options to permit you and your friends to diversify and occupy classes with wildly different and synergistic abilities, but it's still worth increasing your skills from one level to a different.
Why should I exploit a machine gun when my rifle electrocutes zombies?
The gun upgrade system, however, is initially exciting but can hit a wall. the ditch Gun may be a personal favorite: by the top of the campaign, I had sped up my refill, boosted damage output, and added bonus damage to electricity. I added similar upgrades to my precision rifle, but after a short time I ended up with a load of weapon upgrades that I wasn't getting to use. Why should I take two steps back and begin employing a machine gun when my rifle electrocutes zombies? Since there are not any lessons, I even have not felt the rationale to travel back to the start line and alter things.
It's a nice touch, though, that once you die you switch into a zombie and watch, without control, as your character approaches the gang and becomes another obstacle for your friends to beat. Once they kill you, you'll regenerate (as long as they do not die first), so it works as a fun handicap to stop instant regeneration - and let's face it, it is also fun to kill your friends' zombie versions.
Microtransaction reaction
Zombie Army 4 at launch represents a good package with a considerable campaign, but a primary season of DLC is already planned and a Season Pass is out there for $ 34.99. alongside new characters and guns and new skins for all characters and guns, the primary DLC also will add three new campaign missions. There also are additional free levels for Horde mode, although at the instant it's not clear exactly when these new contents are going to be available. In terms of what is immediately available, there's a little selection of cosmetic items and alternative guns that are included within the Deluxe edition or which will be purchased individually for $ 4 or $ 5. So far, it doesn't appear to be the DLC content is going to be an enormous problem.
From a technical point of view, I didn't encounter any connection problems, but I had some general bugs. On quite one occasion I found a scenario during which the zombies were coming to infinity, albeit the goal had been completed, forcing us to start out over. I also had a few times when large black bars appeared, obscuring my view of ammo reserves and when my special skills would be available. it had been quite annoying.
The verdict
Zombie Army 4: Dead War feels largely familiar among the horde of Dead 4 Dead-style cooperative shooter, but it isn't without its clever mechanical touches and runs on the oldest computer game clichés: killing Nazi zombies. Between his varied election campaign and a fun horde mode, there are many opportunities for heartbreaking teamwork and gory, disgusting X-ray kills. The weapon's progression system doesn't provide many reasons to expand, therefore the attraction of his replay value isn't as strong because it might be.

"Hange, no!"
But, despite (F/N)'s endless protests, she still found themselves right outside Erwin's office.
"Name and business." a deep male voice said from within the room.
"It's Hange, and (F/N) and I wanted to show you something unbelievable!"
Silence. But, after just a few seconds, Erwin answered. "Come in."
Hange opened the door and (F/N) was greeted by the sight of the man she feared, who smiled at her like it's nothing.
However, that smile of his reminded her of last night wherein she cried on his arms and positively fell asleep there due to fatigue. As she looked at the man who stood from his chair on the other side of the wooden desk, she couldn't help but feel that the Erwin right now was a completely different version of who she knew way back home. She decided to trust him for now and get this thing over and done with.
"Hange, it's a surprise you didn't just come barging in like always." Erwin said as he went closer to the two of them.
"Well, it's a surprise you didn't show up for breakfast." Hange answered.
"I was finishing the documents on our next sortie to be delivered to the Capital the day after tomorrow."
"Is it finished now?"
"Everything is ready."
(F/N) looked at the two who were casually exchanging conversation like they were not the worst of enemies in the entire city. Well, this is a different world, and two enemies in her world might be the closest of friends here.
Right then, Erwin looked at (F/N), flashing her a bright smile. "How was your day, Miss (F/N)?"
"It's good," (F/N) answered hesitantly. "Thanks."
"Now, about that unbelievable thing you're about to show me?"
"Oh, yes!" Hange said then clasped her hands. She looked at and gestured for her to show Erwin the unbelievable thing. She took the phone from her pocket and handed it to Erwin. He took it curiously and examined it like it was a strange gem or something.
"That is called a cellphone, Erwin. And it can do lots of things!"
"This is a cellphone? I sure never heard of it."
"Of course, you haven't! Since it came from a different world just like our friend here."
Erwin looked at (F/N) suspiciously. Of course, he still thought that she was a lunatic for raving about things last night. Of course, he still didn't believe her after what he just told her last night.
"Yes, I know, I'm a lunatic. Now, if you'll excuse me,..." she said, then took the phone from Erwin's hand, ready to leave the room if it weren't for Hange grabbing her arm. Again.
"Please, (F/N)." pleaded the woman. "You've got to trust him! He only looks like this, but you have to put your faith in him, just like I did to you!"
"Sorry?" Erwin interrupted, clearly offended that Hange just branded him as untrustworthy.
(F/N) sighed and turned around to face the two of them once more. She looked up at Erwin and gave him what she hoped to be a determined look.
"I'll show you I'm not a lunatic." she said, then brought the phone to life, making Erwin astounded just like Hange four hours and thirty minutes ago. Clearly satisfied of the look on Erwin's face, she went to the Videos option and opened one they recorded a while ago. It showed Hange talking and asking questions.
"So, you mentioned a name of a certain place earlier. What was it called again?" Hange on the video asked, making Erwin's eyes widen with both fear and wonder.
"Paradis." a voice that belonged to (F/N) answered, but she's nowhere to be seen because she was the one who was recording the video.
"And what is Paradis?"
"This is what this country is called. Paradis. How come you didn't know about that?"
"You see, we, the people here, are surrounded by three massive Walls - Maria, Rose, and Sina. They were built to protect us from giant human - eating creatures called Titans. We, the Scouts, come out of the Walls in expeditions to find out as much truth about this world as we can. And from what you're saying before, it seems that we're not the only ones here, and that the human race was not as extinct as we thought it was. And they are divided, by different races, by what you call countries?"
"That is correct. And this country is called Paradis."
"Remarkable!" Erwin muttered almost breathlessly, fully entranced by the video.
"And, are there others?"
"Yes. There are hundreds, more than you can count. There is Hizuru of the east, Marley of the west, Arabia on the middle east. just to name a few."
"And where can Paradis be found?"
"About south, but not exactly in Africa. Because, Paradis is just like a small island just above the ring of fire."
"Ring of fire?!"
"No, no, no! Not an exact ring of fire. Countries located in the ring of fire have hot or tropical temperatures. Paradis is almost aligned with Hizuru on the eastern side, so the weather here is not exactly hot or tropical. Hence, the winter season."
"Oh, I see! But, we do have a different kind of Winter Season here, and it is annually celebrated by the wealthy people of Wall Sina. We, higher military officials, do get invited sometimes."
"Oh, tell me, please."
And, just like that, the video went to an end, leaving Erwin speechless and slightly wobbly on the knees.
"So, Erwin, what do you think?" Hange asked after a few moments of silence.
The confused Commander held up a hand and covered his eyes with the other. "I need a moment, please." he said, then went weakly towards his chair, where he almost collapsed.
"Erwin!" Hange quickly went to his side to offer him assistance.
"I'm fine, Hange, thanks." Erwin said and smiled. He looked up at (F/N), who remained rooted to the ground. "The things you just said, are they all true?"
"Positive."
"That we're not the only ones here, and that there are others outside the Walls?"
"In the world where I came from, yes, it's true."
"Where is your proof?" Erwin questioned.
(F/N)'s eyes widened with determination as she opened the mobile data and location functionality of her phone. Knowing in an instant how strangely fast the internet reception here in this world was ( if there's any, at all ) and ignoring it all the same, she went closer to the man and clicked on the World Map option. She showed him a photo of a vast land with hundreds of little writings on it and pointed at the word Trost.
"This is where we are right now." She said, then zoomed out on the screen, making the photo look smaller, and revealing a piece of land surrounded by lots of blue. "This is Paradis Island." she zoomed out once more and showed them multiple patches of land, some big, some small, just like Paradis. "And this is our continent." she was about to zoom out, her fingers ready on the screen, when she decided to give it her all and finally prove to him that she was not crazy. "I'm about to show you the whole globe on this map, would you also like me to show you the galaxy map?"
"Stop! Please,..." Erwin said, holding out a single hand, effectively conveying his lost against his psychological battle with (F/N). "That is enough."
(F/N) withdrew her phone like a gun and took a few steps backwards, letting all of the things she showed the Commander sink in on his confused brain.
After a few moments of silence, Hange finally said something.
"So, Erwin, do you believe me now? I told you she came from another world, and she has proof, which she showed to you. Do you believe her now? Do you now believe that she was an entirely different person?"
"It's hard for me to say this, but yes. I do believe you now." Erwin said, defeated.
"So, you lied to me last night when you said you believe me!" (F/N) argued heatedly.
"No! I - "
For a moment, it seemed that Erwin was full of hesitation, but after a few seconds, he finally had the guts to say what's really on his mind since last night.
"(F/N), I do believe you now, but you have to believe me for what I'm about to say." he began. "You see, you, I mean our (F/N) was really insisting on cancelling our next sortie for an unknown reason. Of course, I have to deny her foolish request. And then, you came along. Or, should I say, Hange found you on that lake, almost dead. I truly believed Levi when he said that you only drowned yourself to gain our attention. But then, you told me your story, about how Levi       cheated on you and that you tried to kill yourself because of that,...
"For your information, (F/N), there really was a breakup. Of you and Levi. But, not like how you described it to be. And then, this,..."
Erwin massaged his temples, unable to accept what was truly happening. "What kind of sorcery is this?"
"Don't ask me that, sir. I don't know how I even ended up here." (F/N) answered.
"But, there must be some kind of gateway from your world to here, right?" Hange suggested. "That lake. They say that the lake was the habitat of the Maiden, and that it is enchanted."
"Maiden?" (F/N) asked curiously.
"The night our (F/N) went missing, it was the night of the celebration of the Maiden of the Lake. Legends say that the Maiden could grant any wish to anyone she consider as worthy. So, the locals celebrate her birthday each year, trying to please the Maiden in order for their wishes to get granted by her."
"But, that was just old wives tale." Erwin added. "There really was no enchanted Maiden to begin with."
"But, maybe there was!" Hange answered in a very positive tone. "And she happened to grant someone's wishes that night."
"And whose wish could that be?" (F/N) asked. "Don't tell me she granted my death wish, because if that's the case, she really messed up big time."
"Not you! Our (F/N)!" Hange said, then grabbed (F/N) by the shoulders. "She was frustrated that her request was denied! I know how spoiled she is sometimes. Maybe she just wished to be someplace else!"
"Hange, if that's the case, then,..." Erwin said, his voice sounding ominous. "Instead of (F/N) here dying, she was  transported to our world for our (F/N) to get to that someplace else you mentioned. That place where she came from."
"Don't tell me,..." Hange breathed helplessly, absorbing all the incredible information.
The two looked at (F/N), and she knew they were thinking what she was thinking right then.
"I think we now know where our (F/N) is." Hange said. "(F/N), she's in your world. You are switched!"

Getting to your flight and the plane ride itself seemed to go by super quickly, especially since you had fallen asleep on the plane. You know you and Tom wouldn't start officially shooting any scenes until next week, so you didn't mind messing up your sleeping schedule. You made sure to bring your anxiety medication, as well as some extra sleeping pills just in case. You know people aren't too big on sleeping pills, and you really aren't either, but you needed something for when worst comes go worst.
For now, though, you landed at the airport and got in a cab to head to Paradise.
Literally. That's the name of the town. Paradise, Pennsylvania.
Got a population of like 1000 people, 2 of those people were going to be you and Tom. You remembered your call with him from last night. You were happy to make him happy.
God, everything was just working out perfectly.
"What do you mean it's not my house?"
Once you had reached the little town, you were stopped by a couple businessmen from entering the house you had rented.
"I paid to rent it for the time I'm going to be filming here! I paid for it literally last week!"
"Well, the payment wasn't confirmed, ma'am.." one of the men spoke, crossing their arms.
"What do you mean it wasn't confirmed!?" You raised your voice, already feeling your hands start to shiver like crazy. "I literally have the paperwork in my luggage that tells me I'm renting this house!"
You heard the sound of a car pull into the neighborhood behind you, but you didn't care to turn around to see who was getting out.
"There's nothing we can do now, ma'am. If you'd like to rent out this house, you'd have to re-apply next month..."
"I-I don't have that time!" You yelled. "How am I supposed to re-apply when I don't have a house to sleep in?!" You started feeling your eyes wanting to water. This was the one thing, the one fucking thing that could go wrong. Everything was perfect until now. It's all suddenly falling apart right in front of your eyes, or at least it feels that way.
They just shrug and return to their own car, driving off rather recklessly.
You let your luggage fall out of your grip as a tear falls down your cheek, feeling a hand touch your shoulder. You flinched and turned around to look at whoever was there to tell them off, but seeing who it was made you instantly silent.
"Are you alright?" Tom asked you in a soft voice. "What happened?.."
You couldn't even answer. You were shaking. Literally shivering, right in front of your co-actor. You looked away in a last attempt to hide your tears. He probably thinks you're just overreacting. You certainly feel like you are.
"(Y/N), you're shaking.." He spoke again, his hands moving down to your hands to hold them. He was right. You were shivering for multiple reasons. Your anxiety had gone through the roof, and you were cold.
You brought your hands up to your face to hide yourself before he could hold them, letting out a defeated whimper.
"Hey...hey.." He spoke in a softer tone reaching for your hands once again despite you resisting. "(Y/N), look at me...look at me.." He finally got to hold both of your hands, feeling his warm palms holding yours. Yours were cold and shaky. Uncontrollably shaky.
You looked up at him, looking into his kind baby blues.
"You're shaking..did you eat before you got on the plane?.." He asked you. Truth is, you hadn't. You didn't have enough time to grab a bite this morning.
You shook your head at him, feeling him hold your hands a little tighter to warm them up.
"Come with me to my place. I'll make you some breakfast and a cup of tea, then you can tell me what happened, alright?.."
You gazed up at him for a moment before giving a silent little nod, seeing a soft smile grow on his face once he got your approval.
Still carrying his own bags, he also carried some of your luggage into his new little home. His home was slightly bigger than the one you were supposed to rent, but it was perfect. You let him set everything down in the living room before bringing you to the kitchen, getting out some pans and a kettle to make you up some food and tea, like he promised.
"So, what exactly happened?" Tom asked as you sat down on one of the kitchen chairs.
"I-I thought I had the house rented and ready to go for this week...b-but they told me it 'wasn't confirmed' or some stupid bullshit.." You muttered, taking a tissue from the table. "And now I have no where to go for the first month.."
The kettle didn't take long to boil, but it gave Tom time to move to the fridge to get some milk after placing a tea bag in a mug.
"...Sounds shitty.." Tom spoke, earning a little sad chuckle from you.
"It's more than shitty." You responded, looking up at him. He fixed up your tea just the way you like it, placing it down on the table for you.
"Well, the last bit doesn't have to be completely true." Tom admitted with a friendly shrug. "You could stay here, for the time being."
"You mean, like...live with you?" You asked, a faint blush on his cheeks. Was he really offering that?
"Yes." He confirmed with a nod. "I promise I'm not too difficult to live with." Tom joked with a friendly little smile, earning a slight smile from you as well.
While you knew you didn't have much of a choice, you had wondered if you would've denied the invitation had you been given another option.
"O-Okay.." You agreed, using a softer tone. "I-If that's okay with you.."
"It's fine by me. Broke my heart seeing you out there in tears.." He admitted, placing a hand on his clothed chest before turning back to focus on the food. You felt your heartbeat for a moment there. He's so sweet..
He was making up a breakfast for you, cooking some eggs and hashbrowns on separate pans. The room was silent as he cooked, though it wasn't an unsettling silence. You could actually slowly feel a strange comforting feeling settle in as he cooked for you. You were tired from the tears, but you felt safe. You felt safe with Tom.
Before you knew it, your breakfast was laid down in front of you. Tom sat across from you with a cup of tea of his own.
"There you are. Eat up.." He spoke, doing that little puppy dog thing with his eyes. You know the one.
You gave a soft smile. "Thank you.." You spoke before finally eating. Though it was a simple breakfast, it was really good, kinda like the ones you'd have at a really good breakfast diner.
"How long did you sleep after our call last night?" Tom asked curiously. It was nice to know he remembered it, too.
"I don't know...like...2 hours, maybe?" You replied with a bit of a frown. "I fell asleep on the plane, but I don't think it helped. I'm still exhausted.."
"Would you like to take a nap after you're done eating?.." Tom asked, his elbow resting on the table, his hand holding his head up. You shook your head. "I don't want to end up staying up all night.."
"Hence why I said 'nap'" Tom pointed at you for a moment with a cute little chuckle, getting up from the chair. "You finish eating, and I'll go set up your room.."
He left the kitchen, leaving you to your food. Were you really going to be living with Tom for a whole month? You can imagine that being some super fan's dream come true. The thought of it made you smile to yourself.
Once you finished eating, you put your empty plate in the sink, turning around when you heard him come back into the kitchen. He could see from even such a distance that you had little bags under your eyes. You're so tired after getting all overwhelmed.
"You really look tired.." Tom gave a friendly little smile, gently placing a hand on your arm to gesture you to wall with him. "Come, your bed is all made up." Every little touch from him felt warm.
"Thank you.." You spoke in a soft tone, walking with him out of the kitchen and down the hall. He opened the bedroom door for you, allowing you to walk in. You weren't sure if it was because of the bed itself or how he made it, but it looked so warm and comfy. Your luggage was now by the empty white dresser. He must've brought that in while you were eating. How kind of him.
"I can help you unpack once you wake up, to make it seem a little bit more like your room.." Tom offered, stepping to you somewhat. You turned around, giving him a warm smile. "Thank you so much for letting me stay here.." You spoke. "You've honestly saved my life.."
Tom gave a soft little smile. "Don't you worry your pretty little head about anything. I'll take care of you while you get all the paperwork sorted out.."
You gave a little sigh of relief, giving one last thank you before he'd turn back to the door, standing on the other side of the door frame.
You never actually asked him what time he was going to wake you, so you walked up to him to talk to him again.
"Tom, actually, when--"
Just as you stopped, he turned around to look at you, your faces becoming suddenly close. Your noses just barely brushed up against one another, his blue eyes looking up into yours before slightly glancing down to your lips. You felt a shaky breath escape, then without a second thought, he closed the gap between you two, closing his eyes as your lips connected.
