swedish hospitality discourse shouldn't squeak by without noting that Zwarte Piet (Black/Sooty Pete) is still prominent in Dutch culture, despite local Black communities protesting it for decades

“Baela shrieks with her father’s anger.”
“Jace the closest to Aemond in age —”
“Aemond puts his hands around Luke’s throat, throttling him.”
“You will die screaming in flames just as your father did.”
“…comes at Aemond, who readies the big rock.”
“He counters, smashing Jace’s face in with the rock.”
I’m gonna knock some teeth out ‘closest to Aemond in age’ and he was canonically 6 to Aemond’s 10. Jace and Luke were the only ones really involved with the fight in the book, and it’s stated multiple times that Aemond had the clear advantage over them and was beating them ruthlessly. It was a clear power play on his part that quickly turned sour because the younger brother feared for both his and his older brothers life (as he should, the kid was 5 fucking years old).
I know why they added the Dragon Twins to the fight, and it was solely to infantilize Aemond even further than they already had (and demonize the girls and the Velaryon boys in turn). Sure, I’m supposed to feel sorry for him because he was bullied for not having a dragon (boo fucking hoo); but I’m not supposed to feel sorry for the twins after they just lost their mother, considering how quickly that storyline was left in the dust to further Aemond’s. I’m not supposed to feel sorry for the woman and kids who were targeted purely due to their blood/gender (but that doesn’t matter ofc just that they’re bastards and harming poor helpless trueborn baby Aemond how dare they).
The agenda being pushed in the show is obviously full of microagressions against these kids — the Velaryons were made into POC just to make certain the audience knew that Rhaenyra’s first three children were bastards, and Baela and Rhaena were added to the fight to show them as the ‘true’ aggressors to the entire situation. It didn’t matter that they had lost their mom recently, it didn’t matter that they didn’t even know who Aemond was. They had one of the last living relics of their mother stolen out from under them by this random kid who immediately insults them to their faces for having the audacity to be upset, but HE is the victim here. Jace had just found out about Harwin being his bio dad and then lost him within a short amount of time. He was being openly mocked and told he and his baby brother were going to die in the exact same way at Aemond’s hand. But no, no! Don’t jump to the obvious conclusion; AEMOND is the victim here.
Four grieving children reacted on their extremely volatile emotions, with one acting on fear alone, and it ended poorly for all parties involved— who would’ve thought?

Preaching to all people who think some content creator are messaging minor for no reason
aka Twitter/tumblr cross over users.
AhEm... YOUR INTERNET PROVIDER(S) CAN SEE THE THINGS YOU DO WITH YOUR INTERNET AND THAT INCLUDES MESSAGING
(and discord... because you're using the internet to get on there... As hotspots too)
This means if a content creator is messaging a minor in an inappropriate or bullying way (in the UK at least) they would come knocking at you door asking for all your personal information, identification, means of contact and be asking questions.
Has that content creator been arrest yet? Nope.
Is cyber bullying/harassment a crime in the UK?
Yes! Under the laws:
Protection from Harassment Act 1997
Malicious Communications Act 1988
Defamation Act 2017
And can even prevent you from getting jobs in the future of your employment wants to look at your social media! Which is legal! (as in they want to make sure you're not a weirdo or anything! They can't deny you a job based on political stuff or opinions on other companies!)
Is messaging a minor inappropriately a crime?
FUCK YES‼️‼️
Sooooooo keep this in mind when you post things online, that the government CAN BE INFORMED OF YOUR ACTIONS ON THE INTERNET BY YOUR INTERNET PROVIDER IF YOU DO SOMETHING SUSPICIOUS OR THAT BREAKS THE LAW

kicking off this blog right away.
i wish there was ACTUAL trans representation within the comic and within cometcare. i get the ideal of having the characters "be born with their ideal name" in a unisex type deal that makes it fit for both masc, fem, and everything between, but at the same time, the trans rep is....it feels very limited and very vagued almost.
its such a crucial thing, too, it show a character transition and explore their identity, and it feels like in sparklecare/cometcare, youre just slapping eyelashes or tossing the boobs or just heavily masculinizing or feminizing them to show theyve "transitioned".
im not made with the full transitions, its just that we never get that inbetween, even if the few trans characters who arent already transitioned do still have that "lore" to transition, i know that nothings gonna come of it.
even with the already transitioned characters, like barry, we never see that transition point! im not implying i want to see deadnames or characters or see what they look like at birth to abuse that information, the representation of being trans is just so...not there!!!!! im trans myself, and transitioning in real life and in media is so important to people like me. especially being unable to transition/pre-transition, it affirms us and we dont feel glazed over in such rough times for lots of trans people, its a big adjust, and i wish we got to see them or get to see that. it just seems like its such a glazed over topic in sparklecare and it honestly upsets me.
sparklecare is so very important to me as its one of the few medias that portrays a lot of queer characters plus grabs my interest with it being a furry comic, it portrays a lot of my trauma as well and i connect heavily to it, and the potential of sparklecare being wasted just upsets me.
anyways, thats all. this has been brewing in my mind for awhile and being trans, it impacts me a lot for a comic ive loved for a good four years. might bring up another similar topic, but its also a topic i rant about a lot in general media for being a minority that might expose or point to my main. eeehhh. ill do it anyways probably. it isnt too uncommon in my circumstances i guess.

Palestinians to platform, part 1
مؤمن الناطور / Moumen Al-Natour
@MoumALnatour
رئيس الشباب الفلسطيني للتنمية / President of Palestinian Youth for Development
Moumen Al-Natour is amazing. Not only does he run a Palestinian youth organization that is doing great work in Gaza, but he's also one of the organizers of the 2019 anti-Hamas protests.
Even to criticize Hamas, in Gaza, means to be interrogated, and potentially jailed, tortured, and/or killed. To actively protest Hamas is many times more dangerous.
To have survived that work and continued doing it? I cannot imagine the emotional strength this dude has.
Here's what Center for Peace Communications (another great organization) has said about him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So many Palestinians, in or from Palestine, are out there talking about what everyday life in Gaza is like. About Hamas, about Israel, about what they want and what they need, about their struggles and their interests and their families.
My goal, in finding people for you to follow and platform, is to help more voices get out of Gaza after years of suppression, and to help more outsiders (like me) connect with them.
People care SO MUCH about Palestine. But frequently, all there is to share is outrage, semi-accurate news, and more outrage. Frequently, we're not calling for the same things they are. We call for a ceasefire; they demand Hamas return the hostages and surrender. We call for Israel to let aid in; they say Israel is letting the aid in, but it's being stolen, and call for air drops rather than trucks. We call for Israel to stop fighting; they say they hope Israel takes Hamas out first.
We aren't centering their voices and experiences. We aren't lending our reach and our strength to their demands.
I want to make that possible.
Tumblr media
Ala Mushtaha, the son of this imam, evidently said, “On Saturday December 30, our front door was busted down and twenty masked men barged in and took my father, a widely respected and deeply learned imam here in Gaza."
“One dragged him by his head and another grabbed him by his beard. My younger brother tried to intervene and reason with the kidnappers, but they beat him. I have a medical condition that makes it hard for me to breathe, so all I could do was watch as the horror unfolded.
“He wouldn’t preach what Hamas told him to. He refused to tell Gazans that violent resistance and obedience to Hamas, is the best way out of our current hell.”
ok this dude needs his own post honestly, he goes on to say so much intense stuff about their lives.
OMG his dad was actually released!
Tumblr media
This is what I'm talking about. This is effective activism. Imagine what all these people could do if they had the entire global pro-Palestinian movement behind them.
Al-Natour posts a fair amount of political commentary.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The "we want to live" hashtag is a callback to the amazing "We Want To Live" protests he co-organized against Hamas, in Gaza in 2019, and again in the summer of 2023. Activist Hamida Howidzy (who will also be getting a separate post) wrote about them in Newsweek recently.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some things he posts in Arabic and then in English. Some of his posts are in Arabic only. In the thread above, he actually posted a couple more that were just in Arabic, presumably aimed at Arabic-language comments.
What I like about Twitter is that you can whack the "translate post" button and get a pretty decent translation most of the time.
Tumblr media
Translation:
"I saw all the responses... What is wrong and forbidden in reuniting the West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem through elections in which the people choose who will represent them??!?? Why are all the responses offensive...a collaborator, a traitor, and contain insults that indicate that whoever wrote them needs restructuring?! What prevents us, after ending the war, from returning our choice and choice to the Palestinian people?!+
Tumblr media
"Everyone wrote that I opened??!! how did you know???!! Stopping the war is the most important thing now... Whoever sees the condition of the people and feels all this is easy for him does not have humanity, and is not a human being... Whoever, after the destruction of more than 80% of Gaza and the North, and still writing in a way that wants the war to continue while he lives abroad, should reconsider. He accepted to live the same suffering!++"
Note: I copied the "I opened" bit and threw it into Google Translate separately, because that cannot be right. It still insisted that it meant "I opened".... but it gave me the transliterated words, "ani fatah."
Everyone wrote that he's Fatah -- the party that runs the West Bank, the one Hamas violently kicked out of Gaza in 2007-08.
Tumblr media
"The end of my speech... I know... whoever is not with you is a traitor and an agent... shameful... by God, by God, by God... there will be an account[ing] for all of this talk... so that you understand the word agent... and the account will be through a government of law... It is clear that there are many who benefit from the poverty and destruction of Gaza, and they must be held accountable according to the law.
"Have mercy on people with your tongues"
The comment on that one is noteworthy:
Tumblr media
"Yes, whoever is not with the resistance is indeed a traitor, and those who must be held accountable are the traitors, agents, hypocrites, liars, and racists who slander the resistance and who want to hold it accountable only because it fights the enemy of humanity and defends truth and the oppressed. If you want to apply the law, apply it to yourselves first."
It highlights how much of what we hear in the West is Hamas propaganda. That's a whole other post too. But Hamas claims to be "the resistance," to "defend truth and the oppressed," while arresting people who refuse to preach its propaganda. While jailing and torturing someone 20 times for organizing a protest.
Which are the exact tactics that make it so easy for their propaganda to reach us . And so hard for us to even know that there has been an entire protest movement against Hamas in Gaza, much less to support its activists.
Tumblr media
I'll just cut and paste the translations from his most recent thread, above. All emphasis is mine:
"When demonstrations took place in Israel demanding that Netanyahu stop the war and free the hostages, Al Jazeera and Hamas considered it a victory and an achievement, and that the Israeli government was under pressure. But what is striking is that these demonstrations were not suppressed. They were secured. The hostage issue and public pressure were dealt with professionally.
"The demonstrations that took place in Gaza demanding an end to the war and the return of the displaced...they were classified as suspicious [by Al Jazeera etc] ...even though the displaced Israeli lives in a 5-star hotel and has the privileges of the displaced, and when the Palestinian displaced in Gaza receives help, he needs a mediator, and if he wants a tent, he needs leadership intervention, and if he does not have the mediator And the intervention wants to scratch his pocket..+++
"Why did Israel allow demonstrations and look pressured, always trying to contain everything... while we have a displaced person lost, homeless, and no one is trying to contain him, and when he talks, they call him a fifth column???"
Last month, he posted about pregnancy in wartime. Note the cost of the tent later in this thread! Numerous Palestinians have posted about humanitarian aid getting stolen -- by Hamas, by NGOs, by others -- and sold on the black market. Food and tents especially get mentioned a lot. Everyone mentions the tents are being sold for more than (the equivalent of) $700, even though they were supposed to be free.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll leave you with this one for now:
Tumblr media
You can read all the posts in this series in my "platform gaza" tag.
#platform gaza#free gaza#the hospital#free palestine#free palestine from hamas#long post#wall of words#please note i specifically said platform gaza and not just platform palestinians#platform the west bank too#don't platform and center palestinians who have never been to palestine on issues that specifically affect people IN PALESTINE#like I'm 3/4 Italian and I'm not gonna tell you about what to do for people in Italy ok#I can give you perspective that you may not have otherwise#but there are multiple really awful orgs that claim to be palestinian-led and are in fact led by people in Canada or Brooklyn#it's extremely ironic that I've seen a lot of people accuse each other of like “sitting at your computer in your apartment in Brooklyn”#to mean being out of your lane and talking about stuff you don't understand in I/P discourse#when in fact the woman who runs within our lifetime is literally in and from brooklyn#that's the org that was caught on video doing a protest march that stopped to scream at cancer patients#about how their hospital was “complicit in genocide”#how was it complicit in genocide you might ask? well i guess memorial sloan kettering cancer center accepted a $400M donation#from “a zionist billionaire” which is a gross antisemitic trope thansks#the “zionist billionaire” hilariously turned out to be a billionaire Protestant#whose “zionism” was... that he's a Harvard grad and he told Harvard it should make a statement about the massacre#so obviously#by accepting a massive donation from some rich white guy who#UNRELATEDLY#thought Oct 7 was bad#the CANCER CENTER#is clearly COMPLICIT in GENOCIDE.#this makes zero sense and is bad activism#and the reason i consider it to be bad activism is specifically that it's not trying to achieve anything

'i know it's not always easy'
i mean, it is. being a fan is very easy.
all the hate and death threats and harassment and gore being sent to me or having someone go to another person's blog to threaten to doxx me or the suicide baiting that people seem to think is okay or that even big blogs on here are fine with people being harassed for being a fan isn't easy but that's the fault of those people! no one else!

"do not trust the media, don't trust what the israeli government is saying" i mean ok, but you believe hamas?? You take the hamas ministries as a serious source?? You think that an islamist and extremely antisemitic terrorist group that oppresses even it's own people and wants to eradicate all israelis and jews doesn't have an interest in spreading propaganda?? I don't even want to discuss anything i'm just begging everyone to develop critical thinking skills and check your sources and what interest they have in telling you what they are telling you

CW: Suicide, graphic description of hospitalization
I know this shouldn't have to be said and you'd think people would know better in this day and age and this fucking community but apparently fucking not.
If you encourage, support, or engage in suicide baiting, even as small as "kys", block me or respond so I can block you. Suicide is not a fucking joke, it's not a punchline, it's not a "gotcha" or a catchy comeback it causes real actual fucking harm.
Do you know what it feels like to have a tube put down your throat? It's been 7 fucking years and I still viscerally remember being told to hold my breath and the awful pressure of the tube. I remember looking over and seeing my heartrate at 300, both my parents crying. The nurses reassuring me that it was gonna be okay.
You know what else I remember? The name and face of a kid who once told me to kill myself, I doubt he remembers, we were only 14, but I do.
Also, for obvious reasons, I don't support any threats of violence, especially over fucking internet discourse.

"no mental disorder makes you a bad person" is very very true and a good statement to promote, but "if someone does something bad, they must've chosen do it, there's never any other possible explanation, and it's especially never b/c of any mental disorders" isn't true?? besides the fact that people can make honest mistakes (even big ones) without realizing what they're doing, or the fact that life circumstances can influence what choices someone even thinks are available to them in the first place, my hot take is that mental disorder can influence you to do bad things sometimes and that should be acknowledged.
that does NOT mean a person with a disorder would be a special extra evil kind of abuser compared to a neurotypical person (ie "narcissist abuse" is still a meaningless and harmful term). it also does not mean that abusers are more likely to have a disorder than to be neurotypical. but disorders are disabling, they cause disorder, it's right in the name, they negatively affect you and your connection to others... why do you think that wouldn't that affect your behavior too sometimes? I know my disorders affect mine. often in negative ways!
besides just "mental disorders are never disabling in ways that make me feel uncomfortable" being ableist, understanding this is important if you believe in prison abolition (which you should). "someone did something bad because they randomly chose to be bad idk" is just as unhelpful as "someone did something bad because they were born bad". but "someone did something bad because of X thing they're struggling with, or their Y need is unmet" is helpful, that's something you can work with and fix. integrate this into your anarchist worldview.
and lastly, tbh it's isolating to have "scary" or "bad" symptoms, and then get told by armchair "mental health advocates" online that you're just choosing to have those symptoms and maybe you could be a better person if you simply chose to stop having mental illness in the first place. so you know, don't be fucking rude lol

there are no good medical professionals on the dsmp in general it’s so weird how everyone writes them as competent. like even outside of the misogyny with c!puffy being reduced down to emotional support woman (and they’re not even letting her go to medical school) i've seen people treat c!Ponk like a wonder surgeon when he’s not a medical doctor at all. like the whole joke was that he doesn’t know what the fuck he’s doing. no one on the dsmp is getting any medical care of any kind better than like basic field medicine or magic revival
And people always skip over those parts of the lore. Like especially with Puffy she had no training. Absolutely none. She also had amnesia and had recently gotten entangled in the egg arc that woman is not going to be a good therapist. The thing is I feel like a lot of c!Tommy fics with c!Puffy in that role basically use the characters name's and general designs and then dump them in a completely different setting and story with very little reference to dsmp lore outside of like Tommy himself. Because canonically, Puffy would absolutely not make a good therapist. She'd probably end up ranting to c!Tommy about her problems.

“You can't really expect me to take the additional context of a potential(?) hospitalization you didn't mention before now into consideration”
Even if I wasn’t currently in hospital, the amount of pain I feel at being abandoned and uncared for when I’m desperately in need of someone would be the same; my being sick is just magnifying it. I’ve felt this way enough times before when healthy, why does me potentially dying somehow make it more legitimate? Hell, my current situation is easier than previous times I’ve felt like this, because this time I potentially have a permanent way out of this shit, and my bf isn’t being as cruel as usual about my “overdramatics” about being sick because oh, right, a doctor straight-up told him if I go sceptic that’ll be it, lights out.
What I expected from you was a compassionate response towards expressed pain, regardless of the circumstances surrounding that pain. It’s possible I was remiss in that, in which case I apologise for placing undue expectations upon you.
No, but it matters to me because "I feel that no one cares" and "my supposed loved ones are actively neglecting me even while I'm in active crisis" are two wildly different situations to me. In the first ask, it wasn't clear to me whether this is an experience you have because of mental health issues, etc, or a completely rational response to a specific situation. And when I'm not sure which one it is, that makes a difference in how I respond. Not because your pain isn't valid regardless, but because there are situations where we can be in pain because WE are struggling, and not because someone is deliberately doing something bad to hurt us. By now it's obviously clear that this was the wrong read on your ask, but I couldn't know that without the additional context

Ive been diagnosed with DID for awhile and the anti-endo shit makes me so fucking uncomfortable. For obvious reasons like the weird need to dictate other people's lives, but i also feel like the anti-endo types who white-knight for people like me are also the people who would turn against us first for functioning 'weird'. Nothing good comes from it. idk. endos cool
Thank you for sharing, and I'm so sorry this didn't get posted sooner. Asks have a bad habit of getting lost in my inbox but this is an important one and should have been posted sooner.
But I think you're very right to feel uncomfortable. There's a huge overlap between anti-endos and the r/systemscringe and r/fakedisordercringe types. Not every anti-endo supports those communities, but every system in those communities is firmly anti-endo, and a lot of anti rhetoric feeds into it indirectly.
And we watched this in real time with the response to the McLean video, where so many on the anti-endo side backed it for essentially fakeclaiming DID systems for "unusual" presentations of the disorder, which often went no further than just... not being ashamed.
Even when anti-endos aren't actively fakeclaiming systems, their rhetoric at least fuels those who do.

bringing this up as another sparklecritic blogs anon mentioned this and ive wanted to mention it as well...
i dont understand the arguement of people just saying "why isnt uni out in the comic!!". its a process. just because someones exposed to another trans person, does NOT mean they are comfortable coming out. it doesnt matter if theyve known for years. it is a PROCESS.
people need to realize what they say. imagine telling a REAL LIFE trans person, who maybe isnt out 100% publicly or something, "why arent you out yet? theres other trans people. youll be supported, dont worry i just know youll be fine!"
do you realize how STUPID that sounds?
im taking this and literally translating it to my own experience. this is risky, but i need people to realize in the fandom, that some of you are insensitive. sure, sparklecare isnt super realistic with the representation, but its still a process.
in my experience, i have always known i was trans. i knew since i was VERY young. but guess what! i was still scared to come out. there were large support systems! but i was still scared. my teachers were openly supportive or trans and queer kids! i was still scared. i had several trans and queer friends who were open about it! I WAS STILL SCARED. it isnt easy, at all. i didnt come out til middle of freshman year in highschool. even then, i was still exploring myself and trying to be comfortable with myself. i still am! it takes a LONG TIME to be comfortable and feel supported and KNOW youll be supported when you come out.
it does NOT matter if uni was 10, if uni was 17, if uni was 25, her current age, or even 40. it takes a long time. even if theres tons of trans people shes surrounded by, even if shes already open about being queer, it doesnt fucking matter.
sparklecare and cometcare representation isnt the best, but you have to realize even if this is a fantasy comic in a fantasy world, these characters are in a real world situation. in real world type traumas. in real world type settings. they may be furry creatures not very dimilar to us humans, but they operate the same as us. we process the same. get it through your fucking head that it doesnt matter how diverse a place is, that people will still struggle and feel alone before being open about literally ANYTHING ever.
