Gotta love how when Daemon was out of the picture for ten years the justification for usurping Rhaenyra was that her position was too "weak" and that she's a fox whispering sweetly as she's surrounded by hounds and she's just making it too easy to take the throne. So after Alicent proves to be a threat by stabbity stab stabbing her while trying to stab Rhaenyra's son after Aemond jacked a war dragon without permission and it was revealed Alicent has been actively coaching her brothers against her, Rhaenyra decides to strengthen her position by marrying Daemon to make it clear she won't stand by if Alicent tries to usurp her and suddenly the usurpation is justified for the opposite reason.
Hmm... It's almost like there was no right choice for Rhaenyra.

“Baela shrieks with her father’s anger.”
“Jace the closest to Aemond in age —”
“Aemond puts his hands around Luke’s throat, throttling him.”
“You will die screaming in flames just as your father did.”
“…comes at Aemond, who readies the big rock.”
“He counters, smashing Jace’s face in with the rock.”
I’m gonna knock some teeth out ‘closest to Aemond in age’ and he was canonically 6 to Aemond’s 10. Jace and Luke were the only ones really involved with the fight in the book, and it’s stated multiple times that Aemond had the clear advantage over them and was beating them ruthlessly. It was a clear power play on his part that quickly turned sour because the younger brother feared for both his and his older brothers life (as he should, the kid was 5 fucking years old).
I know why they added the Dragon Twins to the fight, and it was solely to infantilize Aemond even further than they already had (and demonize the girls and the Velaryon boys in turn). Sure, I’m supposed to feel sorry for him because he was bullied for not having a dragon (boo fucking hoo); but I’m not supposed to feel sorry for the twins after they just lost their mother, considering how quickly that storyline was left in the dust to further Aemond’s. I’m not supposed to feel sorry for the woman and kids who were targeted purely due to their blood/gender (but that doesn’t matter ofc just that they’re bastards and harming poor helpless trueborn baby Aemond how dare they).
The agenda being pushed in the show is obviously full of microagressions against these kids — the Velaryons were made into POC just to make certain the audience knew that Rhaenyra’s first three children were bastards, and Baela and Rhaena were added to the fight to show them as the ‘true’ aggressors to the entire situation. It didn’t matter that they had lost their mom recently, it didn’t matter that they didn’t even know who Aemond was. They had one of the last living relics of their mother stolen out from under them by this random kid who immediately insults them to their faces for having the audacity to be upset, but HE is the victim here. Jace had just found out about Harwin being his bio dad and then lost him within a short amount of time. He was being openly mocked and told he and his baby brother were going to die in the exact same way at Aemond’s hand. But no, no! Don’t jump to the obvious conclusion; AEMOND is the victim here.
Four grieving children reacted on their extremely volatile emotions, with one acting on fear alone, and it ended poorly for all parties involved— who would’ve thought?

"Work, skills and traits that have traditionally been seen as characteristics of and appropriate for women shouldn't be derided or minimised in favour of skills and traits associated with men, and should be respected"
is a valid point, but so is;
"women shouldn't be forced to stick to work, skills and traits that are traditionally seen as womanly, even if they are valuable and important to society, and they have every right to resent and dislike a societal role and code of behaviour that has been inflicted on them regardless of ability, interest or inclination, because of something as arbitrary as gender".
Period heroines complaining about needlework and housekeeping, and fantasy heroines dreaming of sword fighting and adventures, are not a problem, and actually do give voice to the many women in the world who didn't and still don't fit into what society has decided women should be.

The fact that some people brand team black as the feminist/pro women side on the basis of wanting Rhaenyra on the throne when they all let baela and rhaena’s birthright go to boys that aren’t even related to house Valeryon on the basis that lucerys and jace were the “male heirs” and when rhaenys tries to fight for her granddaughters birthright (just like Rhaenyra has to fight for her own birthright btw) Rhaenyra, the rightful heir to the throne that could lose it over the existence of her younger half brother, response is legit “baela and rhaena can marry my illegitimate sons, and then their SONS can one day inherit driftwood too :)”
Enjoy whatever characters or “team” that you like but at least recognise there is no feminist side, good side or winning side

Your post about Alicent, Sansa, and Elia - I would add Catelyn to this as well - and their fandom perception, etc. was very on point. I've noticed with the ASOIAF fandom, in general, is that there is a significant subset of fans (almost always women themselves) that will always stan/cape for the NLOG Power Fantasy Self-Insert and will put down the 'meek, submissive dutiful wife' types which they perceive are in opposition to their faves. There is a very misogynistic undercurrent in the fandom in regard to women that are deemed as 'only' being wives and mothers and nothing else. They are deemed boring, irrelevant, and not worthy/or exciting enough by the fandom. They are offered no empathy, or grace, and their victimization is often ignored or downplayed because they didn't 'fight back.'
There is also another element to this in how insanely male-centered these fangirls are. The reason why some of these self insert power fantasy characters, like Rhaenyra, Dany, Lyanna, etc. (the GRRM Girl Boss) are so revered is because they have been 'picked' by important men in the series. These fans will elevate a female character and deem her worthy as soon as an important male character is said to be in love with her. This is why they cannot stand Daemon very obviously cheating on Rhaenyra with Nettles because it implies Rhaenyra wasn't 'enough', same with Baela and Jace/Sara Snow, and why they look down on women like Elia, Alicent, etc. because they didn't 'satisfy' the targ men in their lives. Saying Elia is barely a character, but stanning Lyanna who is also essentially an NPC is laughable, but since Lyanna was called willful a few times, played with a sword, and Rhaegar risked it all for her she's considered stan-material. I'm unmoved and unimpressed, but fine whatever. Shiera Seastar, has two character traits, being hot and having two targ men in love with her. Yet the stanning her is not weird at all but being interested in the DLC is? I need these people to be serious.
Then there's someone like Rhaella, who should be revered in this fandom because she literally died giving birth to the last hope of the targ dynasty, but she is either ignored or clustered in with the characters the Girl Boss stans cannot understand people liking. You just know targ stans don't like Rhaella because she didn't girl boss her way out of her abusive marriage and instead was a 'passive victim' who 'did her duty.' Importantly, she was also not loved by or sexually satisfied her targ husband. And, canonically, Aerys lusted after other women, like Joanna Lannister, which degrades Rhaella even more in the eyes of these types of fans because once again she was 'beaten' by other women in terms of being desired by the men in her life.
You also see this mentality when Arya fans use Arya being Jon's favorite sister over Sansa as some like, own, against Sansa or whatever. Am I supposed to give a single fuck who Jon Snow, of all fucking characters, prefers or likes? Because I don't and Arya isn't 'better' for having more attention from an 'important' male POV character. It's so male-centered and pick me-ish, it's insane lmao.
Bottomline, a lot of these fans are profoundly misogynistic, hypocritical, male-centered, and honestly cannot consume media without projecting and self inserting into a power fantasy character. And they need other women to be downgraded by both the narrative and in the fandom to add 'spice' to stanning the self-inserts that they have deemed worthy.
Anon you hit the nail right on the head with this! These fans only like female characters that they see as desired by male character around them, usually Targs because we need that nazi eugenics metaphor.
A lot of these fans like to delude themselves by saying they like characters that are active and actually do stuff but they always fail to notice or care about what characters like Sansa, Elia, Catelyn, and Alicent do!
Fans hate on Catelyn because she’s active but in the wrong way to them. She gets shit done! Girl literally crossed the continent to warm her husband and find out who tried to kill her son! She caught off an assassin for her baby! But it’s not active in the way these fans want because she’s not bending over backwards to accommodate and baby Jon Snow.
Same with Sansa and Alicent, these two are very active in their own ways, they’re plotting, guiding, and influencing those around them but the second Alicent gets violent or Sansa has thoughts of regicide, they’re instantly bad characters who are being active the wrong way.
And Lyanna and Elia are both very passive characters. The most active thing Lyanna does is being the mystery knight and the most active thing Elia does is taking the lead role in caring for her babies by not letting wet nurses nurse them. After this they’re both background characters who suffer at the hands of the men around them.
Basically these people like to lie and say they want active characters but when the characters are active, it’s not in the right way. I saw someone say that they like active characters who succeed but no character is succeeding 100% of the time, they’re all failing!!

‘Violetta’ teaser
Tumblr media
Trigger warnings - noncon/dubcon relationship, incest (uncle/niece), canon typical sexism, sexualization of minors (USA age of consent is 18), foot fetish, age gap, lolita theme, Larys is his own warning, icky, Larys is in his 30s while Violet is 15 in this segment
If you have any other warnings that you believe I should include, please let me know!
an : This whole segment is written in the point of view of a severely warped male mind. Nothing that occurs in this plot line is acceptable. I myself am an adult female and I do not condone ANY of these actions in anyway whatsoever. I don’t want to get too personal but I went through several cases of abuse in varying stages during my teenage years and while in those years, I read Lolita many times. For me, this is a form of coping and I am very nervous to post this as I do not want anyone to be upset by my writing. If you are sensitive to the warnings stated above, please skip reading this teaser and please don’t read the whole chapter if or when it is released as more warnings will be added to the final product. I’m posting this teaser here for feedback and constructive criticism, pointers from fellow fanfiction writers would be greatly appreciated!

Larys, overlooking his political tact, was a man of simple pleasures. Always the intelligent second son trailing behind his handsome older brother. A scholar of sorts, dabbling in many studies. Histories, being a favorite of his but most interestingly, botany.
The hills of Harrenhal flourished this time of year. In fruitful times like this, he preferred to meander about the bountiful lands to admire the scenery in peace and quiet. At the moment, he trudged along, in no rush to be anywhere. It was hot out today, a light breeze made the tall grasses dance for him, of course reminding him of her swaying with the wind like the branches of a mighty willow. Dancing like no one else was there. His hand clutched the head of his cane in silent agony, his heart and cock aching for her. His chest rose and fell in haughty breaths, the linen of his shirt hung loosely about him, flitting ever so slightly in the breeze. He turned his focus to the vast plains before him, studying the flowers that bloomed for him.
Roses.
Sunflowers.
Violets.
“Uncle!” Larys turned back to see the object of his strife rushing towards him. Her big ocean eyes finally focused on him and it felt like she had seized his still beating heart in her tender hands for safe keeping. It felt like his world had all but stopped in this moment, kept only for himself. His thin lips pulled up into a small smile as he watched her bound over to him, bare feet hopping over the tall pasture that he had strolled through alone.
She finally reached him, looping her delicate arms around, hugging his free arm, squeezing it between her blossoming breasts in her excitement. They felt so full now, lush and ripe. There it was again, the agonizing ache in his trousers.
“My dear,” He greeted hoarsely, awestruck by the youthful beauty that clung so defenselessly to his side, just where she belonged. Her plump lips pulled wide, exposing her big teeth, almost too big for her mouth. She let go of his arm, much to his despair, before presenting before him, a tediously woven crown, a crown of flowers. Larys observed it curiously the species of flower she had meticulously chosen for him was intriguing and frankly quite alarming.
White oleander, deadly nightshade and mountain laurel, woven together by mistletoe.
“For you,” she held it up high, expecting him to bow his head before her. Instead, he gazed down through his thick lashes at her, his dark eyes fixed wantonly on her throat. How he wished to kiss it, to mark it as his. “Don’t look at me like that.” She said, suddenly sounding stern as she retracted her arms to her bosom, her perked breasts pressed together in a vulgar display. Larys cocked a thick eyebrow in confusion of her rapidly changing emotions.
How tedious the minds of children can be.
“Like what?” He inquired, gazing into her blue eyes. She huffed like a spoiled child as his pink tongue darted out to wet his lips like a starving hound. “Kneel down.” Larys blinked, eyes full of confusion at the child’s orders. “Kneel down!” She squawked again, louder this time. Larys huffed before gently getting down to his knees, not to upset his misshapen foot. He gazed up at her as she laid the venomous crown upon his brown curls.
Her fragile hands came down to cup his stubbled cheeks in her palms, his heart pounded against his chest. Her heavenly smile upon her lips drove him mad with desire. And as if the gods themselves had granted his wish, she leaned down slowly, laying a kiss upon his lips. In that moment, he wondered if it was all just a dream. Was she there with him now? Bearing his face in her pure hands, her plush lips pressing against his? She tilted her head, deepening their embrace, Larys’ eyes widened in shock before fluttering shut once again. His cane fell to the grass below as his hands reached to desperately grasp her sides. But as soon as his hands touched her, she retracted.
Larys gasped, falling forward onto his hands, he looked up to her only to see her devious smirk. Giggles escaped her uncontrollably before she turned and ran, leaping over the grass like wolves themselves chased her. Her cackling echoed in his ears as he watched her fade away into the distance.
She’d left him, panting and heaving like a dog with the mere touch of her lips. His shaking hands gripped at the grass, pulling tight, blades of grass being yanked up by the roots as he agonized on his knees, alone once again with his taunting thoughts.
She tormented his every waking moment.

an : So that is a small snippet of the writing I’m doing at the moment, it’s inspired by both the novel Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov and the film Valerie and Her Week of Wonders by Jaromil Jireš and I would really appreciate some feedback from fellow writers. If this upset you in anyway I completely understand and I apologize, I know it’s a dark subject to write on. I promise not all of my stuff is like this, this is very different from my usual. I do hope you enjoyed it a little, I’m very embarrassed over my writing so if I could ask everyone to please be kind in the comments, I’d really appreciate it. @valeskafics please critique me! Thank you for visiting my page!

i don’t know if people were like this about the female villains on game of thrones since i never watched it while it was airing but man it would be really nice if people who don’t like alicent hightower could discuss her without immediately resorting to calling her a hag or a cunt or a bitch

It's interesting that while Rhaenyra Targaryen can be criticized for being careless in regard to having pre-marital sex or conceiving children with Harwin Strong, instead of her husband, Laenor Verlaryon, very few have criticized Westerosi society for its hypocritical rules regarding sex and gender. In fact, I have yet to encounter any real criticism of Laenor's failure to continue making any effort to conceive children with Rhaenyra. SHE has received most or all of the blame - not only from the story's other characters, but from many fans as well. Very few have criticized Laenor for his failure to maintain appearances or Westerosi society for its gender bias and hypocrisy.

Daenerys and Rhaenyra are among the most "sociological" characters who are emblematic of the social movements and attitudes around them, which is why it's so infuriating that it's their actions that are picked apart the most in a quest to define them by both real and imagined individualized "personal failings".

I really wonder where you got the idea that the greens consider Aegon a worthy king. No one thinks of him as such, including his family lol. Even he himself says that he does not want the throne and is not born to rule. People support the greens because: 1. They just like these characters more. 2. They believe that the greens in general would be better rulers than the blacks in general. 3. They believe that the greens have usurped the throne to protect themselves. In neither case is it a question of Aegon being a good king. Stop attributing thoughts to people that they didn't express.
i’m going to need y’all to read my post front to back at least three times, and then back to front thrice more. no where in the fucking post did i put down that the greens consider aegon to be worthy to the iron throne. the whole worthy statement literally goes “…aegon did nothing to prove he was worthy of being named heir, let alone being king.” the key words are ‘did nothing to prove’, HE did nothing. no where in the post did i mention the team green fandom, minus putting the tag ‘anti team green’. you’re nitpicking because otherwise you wouldn’t have something to whine about. i get that media comprehension can be tough, but really? is this the best you all can come up with? i understand all of the ‘reasons’ why people support the greens over the blacks. that’s why i’m not team green. it’s a comparison. how many times have you and your buddies haha-ed over rhaenyra being a privileged brat who did nothing to secure her claim? i’m guessing quite frequently, considering i still see the same dumbass talking points despite blocking the tags. your precious uwu aegon and his stans can handle having one of your arguments pointed out as sexist, right? you can’t come after rhaenyra for one thing and then give aegon a pass for the exact same reason. it’s hypocritical and contradictory to do so. use your brain. i PROMISE *pinky promise at that* it’s not that difficult to do.

I'm doin' it for all of us (who never got the chance)
Jaehaerys loved Alysanne. He really did. Otherwise, he would not have fought for her against Rogar Baratheon and their mother. Otherwise, he would have fled their marriage bed a long time ago. He has never taken another woman besides Alysanne; he really loved her. And the kindest thing he ever did for her was to let her and the realm think she had some power over him beyond what he allowed. What was this, if not love?
write me happy and blue (my baby, crimson and clover)
He was having a war in his mind. The conflict between these two sides has consumed him and made him angry with everyone. Blaming women, getting angry, and having contempt for them — these have always been his winning feelings. He was there many times with Chrissie, Marianne, Marsha, Bianca, etc.
Mick always thought the problem was with them. Boring, aggressive, greedy, and drugged. Always a pain in the ass. Can any guy blame him for breaking up with them or cheating on them? It was always more their fault than his.
Occasionally, he thought about his role in the end of these failed relationships. The answer was always the same. He was not a saint, but they always gave reasons for his attitudes and betrayals.
Ever since Shalom said those things to him, which shook him to his core like no other words had shaken him before, a profound realization has been crawling inside his gut and resurfacing as guilt. Not for others, but for Shalom, whom he deeply hurt and broke promises to.
He still refuses to fully accept this feeling. He has never accepted blame before; how could he? It really wasn't his fault. It was their fault. Women's fault.
The incessant thought that maybe he was the wrong one, that maybe he was the problem — that tiny little thought he squashed when Brian died, driven by his own actions (he chose that path! He forced the Stones to have no choice but to kick him out! Brian's death is not my or anyone else's fault!), resurfaced. Stronger than ever.
And he was scared.

“The scene between her and Rhaenyra in Episode 8 could be a deal breaker for many watchers” yet Olivia’s still pushing for it. I think she’s convinced herself that if she reduced Alicent to be nothing more than Rhaenyra’s personal cheerleader fans will stop associating her with Team Green and will finally love her character. What she fails to realise is TB stans will never like Alicent, all she’ll achieve is make TG dislike her as well.
I can't speak for what it is Olivia wants but hypothetically speaking, you are correct in that Alicent will always be hated no matter what good deed or bad she does.
The same goes for Rhaenyra, so I do not see why the writers should insist on trying to sanitize the women, transfer their ambition, cruelty and logic to the men, who 'of course' are the 'true villains' of the story (🙄 superficial white feminism can be so myopic, just look how people are doing mental gymnastics for Barbie).
As always, I am cautiously optimistic and readily pessimistic at the same time. I've learned not to raise my expectations. I won't be surprised if they bungle their only opportunity to let the women go full out war, as they should have since Driftmark.
I'm almost positive that by the end of this series, there will be more fans for Aemond, Daemon, Aegon and Daeron than there will be for Alicent and Rhaenyra, chiefly because the MEN are the only ones allowed to act rationally in this war instead of going for tea parties musing about old friendships.

You are all aware that being raped by Viserys can be bad for Aemma & Alicent right?
I recognize that Aemma was younger but that doesn't mean Alicent was someone he should even be attracted to. Rhaenyra is called a child by Viserys when she is older than Alicent was when they first had sex.
And no Alicent wasn't 18/an adult when they got married she was 16 and was still 16 when Aegon was born. Meaning she was likely 15 when her father sent her to Viserys meaning Viserys was into a 15-year-old girl. Yes I understand that Alicent is within normal marriage age in Westeros when she marries Viserys. But come on guys she's still 16 years old and he is a grown-ass man. Just because it's common doesn't make it not gross, especially considering that's his daughter's close friend!
And people have the audacity to say Alicent should be grateful! Comparing her having non-syrupy sweet behaviour the whole time to Aemma being lovey with her husband is so frustrating. We have one episode with Aemma and the rest with Alicent. We see Alicent try to be the best wife she can. The main times she really acts out towards other people is when it comes to her children! Like yeah, she is bitchy about shit sure but it isn't her constant behaviour. Like you can say she made shitty choices, which she did, but calling it “ungrateful”, “Seductress”, “Spoiled” or C*nt is just misogyny. Like take into consideration all of the factors in her behaviour she is living in a society that is stacked against her! She is a second wife, a traumatised woman and a mother. Also, it is part of a layered character arc, Aemma just didn't get to have that! Why? because of all the pregnancies that Viserys pushed on her.
You don't get to use the few scenes we have of Aemma being the perfect wife to rag on Alicent! It’s simply a shallow and misogynistic read of both of their characters.

HotD and Race
While George R.R. Martin is a very skilled writer, he fails at writing characters of color, with disabilities, or female characters a lot. There are countless examples of marginalized character’s experiencing 10x the violence of their white and male counterparts while receiving little to no characterization.
For example, Lollys Stokeworth is a disabled woman who is brutally raped and forced to have a child from that. There is little humanization within the narrative for her as everyone either finds her annoying or a burden. Her trauma is ignored and pushed to the side lines.
Another example is Alayaya who is black sex worker brutalized by Tywin to get to Tyrion and is used by Tyrion as a cover for his visits to Shae. After she is whipped and thrown out of the red keep, we only hear about her having sex with other characters.
And the most famous example is Miri Mas dur. A victim of extreme physical, sexual, and emotional violence, saw her whole community either killed or enslaved, and was burned alive for fighting back against her oppressors.
All this to say that making house Velaryon black is a further insult to minority viewers as this house is repeatedly victimized, side lined, and killed to push the claims of white characters. And to add on to this, the family is never allowed to be upset about this without the text punishing them and fandom calling them entitled. Corlys is such a butchered character.
