Found the novel Tender Light is based on and am reading the last chapter.
She had lost hope in that town and that century, but because she loved him, she found true warmth and humanity for herself.
And the ending! The ending is behind read more because so spoilery. But god, neither of them trapped in that fucking town by the end is GLORIOUS in and of itself!
Zhou Luo closed the door and looked at her across the huge office. The turbulent emotions suddenly subsided, and his heart calmed down in an instant, as if he had finally arrived at the harbor after wandering for many years.
Nanya heard the sound of the door closing and said, "Put the things on the table. Who is coming to see me?"
Zhou Luo said nothing, smiled and stared at her.
Nanya finally looked back, her eyes widened for a moment, looking frightened, just like what she saw when he lay on the counter and woke up from the dream of white butterflies. Her hands were still hanging on the cheongsam.
Just like before, she slowly retracted her hand and gently curved her lips: "Are you here?"
The eyes are glued together, showing longing, regret, forgiveness, and attachment.
Zhou Luo stepped forward and walked towards her step by step. She stood there waiting for him.
She waited for him to come to her, but she did not refuse his arrival or push away his dusty figure. She looked up at him, slightly tearful, and smiled at him.
So grateful and so loved.
Zhou Luo also had tears in his eyes, but also smiled and said, "Xiaoya, you see, when I grow up, I still haven't forgotten you."
Eight years passed by and he finally caught up with her.
"Xiaoya, look, I've grown up and still love you. - How wonderful. You are still so young, but I am old. It's wonderful." He lowered his head, tapped her forehead with a single He held her cheek with his hand and asked softly, "Do you agree?"
Nanya was still trembling slightly and couldn't say anything else. Finally she spoke and asked: "Zhou Luo, would you like some tea?"
Just like before.
"Okay." He smiled with tears in his eyes.
She turned around and pulled him to the wooden table. Zhou Luo sat down and saw a faded colored paper pinwheel stuck in a small porcelain vase at the corner of the table.
Nanya boiled water.
Zhou Luo said: "It's been a long time since I read a poem to you. Let's read one today."
Nanya said: "Whose?"
Zhou Luo said: "Haizi."
And she laughed.
When the water boiled, Nanya set up the clay pot and porcelain cups, washed the tea, boiled the tea, and brewed the tea, slowly coming in like flowing clouds and flowing water.
She was making tea and he was reading poetry:
"Be a happy man from tomorrow on/ Feed the horses, chop wood, and travel around the world/ From tomorrow on, care about food and vegetables/ I have a house facing the sea and the flowers are blooming in spring/ From tomorrow onwards, communicate with every relative/ Tell them my happiness/ That happy lightning told me/ I will tell everyone/ Give every river and every mountain a warm name/ Stranger, I also bless you/ May you have a bright future/ May your lover eventually get married/ May you be happy in this world/ I just want to face the sea and see the flowers blooming in spring."
After he finished reading, he handed her the letterhead in his hand. She took out the key and opened a small drawer. A pile of letterheads filled with poems lay there. She put the piece of letterhead back where it should be.
Everything seems to be back to that year again.
That summer afternoon, there was plenty of sunshine.
You smile at me and say nothing.
It feels like I have been waiting for a whole century for this.
God, even in terrible MTL, this is beyond gorgeous AAAAAAAA!!!!

Chapter 12
Friday, October 25 Ninth week of the semester
On Friday evening you were nervous. Excited, but nervous.
“You’re going to have an amazing time, you know that. He’s so into you and we both know how much you like him.” Beth’s voice came from the shelf where you had your phone propped up with her on FaceTime. You were trying to figure out what to wear for your date.
“I just want to find the right outfit.” You were standing in your closet in your underwear, which Beth had already teased you for. You held up your black jeans and another top. “What about this?”
“Hmm,” Beth leaned towards the camera to look at it. “That is a great color on you.”
You held it up and sighed. “I’m not feeling it, I think.” You thought for a moment. “Wait!” You dove into the back and pulled out a top you hadn’t worn in ages — you looked amazing in it, but it wasn’t really work appropriate so it had slowly gotten shuffled to the depths of your closet.
“Yes! I forgot you had that. That’s the one.”
You smiled, agreeing. “I forgot I had it, too. Ok, I’m going to finish getting ready.”
“Better run! It’s like 6:35.”
“Shit! Ok, love you, talk to you later.”
You reached to end the call, and before you could, Beth said, “you better text me! If you go home with him, tell me where you are!” You said you would and hung up.
As you moved to put your phone down, you noticed you had a text from Ellie.
Ellie (6:21 PM): don’t forget to tell him if he fucks up I’m coming for him 🔪 have a nice date
It made you laugh, which was probably her goal.
you (6:37 PM): 🫡
Ellie (6:37 PM): and take a video of you dancing
you (6:38 PM): 🙄
You were mostly ready, just had to throw on your (finally) chosen outfit. That was why you’d called Beth in the first place — you’d almost been ready to go, and had totally stalled out in front of your closet, trying to figure out what to wear.
You stepped into your kitchen with only minutes to spare. At 6:59pm you were looking at the clock on your microwave when you heard a knock on your front door. You smiled, and grabbed your purse.
When you opened the door, Joel was waiting for you on the other side. He’d forgone another of his flannel shirts, and instead was wearing a dark green dress shirt that hugged his arms and shoulders deliciously. You found yourself slowly trailing your eyes down his torso to where he had it tucked into his dark jeans. His tight dark jeans. You swallowed and darted your gaze back to meet his eyes.
You found him checking you out in the same way, and you smiled again.
“Hey there, hot stuff.”
His eyes snapped back to yours when you greeted him. He smirked. “You look gorgeous, darlin’.” He stepped forward and revealed a small bouquet of colorful flowers in his left hand. “For you.”
You grinned, and took the flowers from him, noting that none of them would make you sneeze. “These are lovely, thank you.” You moved to step back towards your kitchen and gestured him inside. “Come in while I put them in water.” He followed you over the threshold and you heard him walking slowly behind you as you searched for a vase.
“I like your place, darlin’.” You looked over your shoulder and found him inspecting the art and pictures hung in your entryway. “It’s very you.”
You smiled as you pulled out a vase for the flowers and arranged them inside. “Oh?” You felt more than heard him come up behind you. He touched your waist lightly with both hands and you felt his breath on the right side of your neck. You bit your lip against a grin.
“It feels warm and inviting. It’s cute. Like you.” You leaned back into him and he took it as the invitation it was, wrapping his arms around your waist.
“I’ll have to visit yours and see how much it looks like you.”
He laughed, and then leaned down and kissed the spot under your ear he had mentioned in his text. Your breath caught. “Our place is mostly Sarah, I think.” His lips moved against your neck as he spoke.
“Hmm,” you tilted your head to give him easier access. “I’ll just have to judge it for myself, then.” You felt him smile into your neck and his arms hugged you tighter.
“We should get going before I decide I’d rather keep you here,” he murmured into your neck. He pressed one final kiss there before stepping away.
You turned to smile at him. “You could probably talk me into it.”
Joel closed his eyes and took a deep breath before opening them and shaking his head at you. “No, darlin’, I’m taking you out. Been looking forward to this for weeks.” He reached down to take your hand and started walking backwards towards your front door. “No gettin’ distracted, now. We have places to be.” He winked.
You followed behind him to your front hall and out the door, turning to lock it behind you. You felt his hand slide into place on your lower back as the two of you walked out of your apartment building to his truck. He handed you into the passenger side before climbing in himself, and you were off.
You took advantage of the opportunity and watched Joel as he drove. “I’m glad we made it to date night.”
He smiled and glanced at you out of the corner of his eye. “Me too, darlin’.” He reached over and took your hand in his, resting both on the center console. “I think you’ll like the music. The band is really great.” He squeezed your hand.
“I’m sure I will. I am nervous about the dancing, though.”
Joel looked at you as he slowed to a stop at a red light. “I’ll be there to guide you, darlin’. They won’t be doing anything too complicated.” You nodded, still a bit nervous, but reassured.
Over the rest of the ride, Joel filled you in on the band you’d be seeing — The Wild Strawberries — since he did know them, and had seen them perform locally many times. It sounded like they were, at the very least, friendly acquaintances. His thumb lightly stroked the back of your hand the whole way there.
The bar was downtown, somewhat close to the university, but tucked onto a side street that you knew students rarely frequented. (Which was a good thing. The last thing you wanted to do was run into your students on a date.) You could see through the front windows that the space inside was large, with a big stage near the back, a dance floor, and tables scattered throughout the room. A long bar made of dark, solid wood stretched along the entire right hand wall. It was busy, but not overcrowded. In neon letters and a fancy font the name The Tipsy Bison stretched over the front facade.
Joel parked down the street and came around the car to open your door before handing you out of the truck. He kept hold of your hand as you turned to walk back towards the bar. “So you’ve never been to the Bison before, darlin’?”
You shook your head. “I’ve been to a few other places on this block, but never here. I’m not often downtown in the evenings.” As you approached the door Joel transferred your right hand to his right so he could settle his left low on your back to guide you through the opening.
The Bison, as Joel called it, was warm and inviting inside. On the stage there were a couple of people setting up for the band, and the tables were about half full. You and Joel claimed a table near the dance floor where you could easily see the stage. As you sat, you heard someone call Joel’s name from behind you.
“There you are, you bastard. You said you’d come see us play months ago.” A friendly looking man in a nice button up shirt came over and clapped his hand on Joel’s shoulder. Joel rolled his eyes as the man looked over at you. “Well, hello there! I’m Frank. And who might you be?” Frank held out his hand and you shook it as you introduced yourself. A sly look came over his face when he heard your name, and he turned back to Joel. “Wait, is this the Gorgeous Prof—”
Joel rolled his eyes and sighed. “How many people did Tommy tell about that?”
Frank laughed, and you grinned. “Wasn’t Tommy, I’m afraid. Tess sold you out this time.” Joel sighed again.
You took pity on him and cut in, “don’t worry, he had a nickname, too. We were calling him ‘Hot Construction Asshole’ for a while there.” Frank laughed, loudly. When you caught Joel’s eye again you winked, and he gave you that half smile that you loved.
“Well!” Frank clapped his hands. “I’m glad you’re here. Finally. And it’s lovely to meet you. I’ll introduce you to my husband later, he’s not here yet but he’ll be holding down that corner booth eventually.”
You smiled and nodded, noticing that the booth in question had a “Reserved” sign. “I’d love to meet him.”
Frank wandered off and you turned back to Joel. “So how many people did you talk to about me?” He blushed, and you grinned.
“Just Sarah, Tommy and Tess, darlin’, but Tess and Frank are thick as thieves. No telling who Tommy’s talked to.”
You shrugged. “Well, you know I talked to Beth and Ellie. And my sister, Ellie’s mom, a bit.” You didn’t really want to get into that now so you didn’t pause to let him ask any questions. “Like I said before, we just need new nicknames.” You tilted your head as you considered him. “What do you think, hot stuff?”
He smirked. “Oh, are we stickin’ with that one?”
“I was trying it out.” You smiled at him, unrepentant. “Was also thinking of calling you ‘cowboy.’ Seeing what fits.”
He eyed you. “Well, darlin’, you can call me that if you like.” He leaned closer so he could speak lowly into your ear. “I know you like it when I call you sweet names, honey, but I’m determined to figure out which one is your favorite.” He leaned back to take in the effect his words had on you, and you assumed he wasn’t disappointed. You felt the heat in your cheeks and the hitch in your breath. Whatever was happening in your body must have been written all over your face.
“Oh?” Your voice was breathy and high pitched.
He leaned back in to press a kiss to your cheek, soft. “I can tell you like darlin’, and honey, but we’ll just have to keep looking for the right one.”
You turned towards him, and found that your faces were just inches apart. “The right one for what?” You felt a bit dazed, and you realized you were staring at his mouth. You watched as the corners rose into a smirk again.
“The right one, baby, for later. When you let me kiss you again, like you did in your office. And maybe we find out what happens next, when we don’t get interrupted.” You bit your lip and swayed towards him, but you were startled away from his gaze by the arrival of your server.
“Evening, folks! What can I getcha?”
You felt Joel lean away from you as you both glanced down at the drink menus you hadn’t touched. But that was alright — Joel ordered a beer and you ordered your go-to drink.
As your server stepped away, you looked back at Joel and felt a bit off kilter, coming down from your intimate moment that had been interrupted. He regarded you and slid his hand over to rest next to yours. “So what do you think, darlin’? About the Bison?”
You looked around you, and then back at Joel. You slid your hand closer so your fingers were touching. “I like it, Joel. It’s right up my alley.”
He smiled, and started playing with your fingers. “Good.”
Over drinks you talked about work a bit, and then about your friends, and Sarah and Ellie. Joel told you about Sarah’s soccer games (she was a forward) and how she was thinking about going out for the school varsity team next year.
You told him about Ellie starting the art club at her school and getting in trouble for cursing at one of her teachers, which was really par for the course. He laughed through the story, though, and summed it up with, “she sounds like a real firecracker. Sarah’d like her,” which made you smile and lace your fingers with his on the table.
“She is,” you agreed.
You ordered some food, and the band started getting in place when it arrived. You scooted a bit closer to Joel so you’d have a better angle on the stage and he set his arm along the back of your chair, turning toward you in response. You noticed Frank was holding a bass guitar.
When the music started, Joel leaned toward you to murmur in your ear, “you want another drink, darlin’? Before we get out on the floor.” You nodded, and he squeezed your hand before standing and heading towards the bar.
Frank’s band had a bit of a folksy sound, mixed with traditional rock and country. Their first few songs were fun and upbeat and you watched as people started to move onto the dance floor. Some couples were doing what looked like a two-step to your untrained eye, while others did the more accessible sway-in-place. A large group of friends was also hovering near the front and dancing together.
Joel returned with your drinks and pointed out what was, in fact, two people dancing a two-step and named a few of the moves for you. You started to feel overwhelmed at how much you didn’t know about dancing, while he was so knowledgeable.
Joel scooted his chair closer to yours and leaned in. You realized he must have noticed how much you liked it when he spoke right in your ear.
“What do you think, darlin’? Wanna give it a go?” He moved his arm from the back of your chair closer to you, letting his fingers brush against your arm. You shivered, and you could see that he noticed when he smirked.
“Go easy on me?” You could hear the lack of confidence in your voice. His smirk gentled into a smile.
“Darlin’, just follow me. I won’t let you stumble.” He stood and offered you his hand, which you took.
Joel led you to an empty area near the edge of the dance floor and guided you into a stance you noticed was similar to the one the other dancers were using. “Alright, look, we’ll take it slow. Start with the basics.” And he did. He guided you through a simple two-step, and before you knew it you were moving around your corner of the dance floor to the beat. Slowly, but you were doing it. You watched your feet as you tried to keep up with the step.
Joel cleared his throat. “So? What do you think?”
Your eyes flew from your feet to meet his gaze. You smiled, hesitantly. “Am I doing it?”
He grinned at you. “You are, honey.”
You and Joel kept it up for the rest of the song, moving slowly. After a few minutes you were able to look away from your feet again.
“How did you learn how to dance?”
He turned you as you approached the tables, to keep you on the dance floor, and you felt his hand move across your back to bring you closer to him. “My mother taught me and my brother. Our family gatherings tend to feature a lot of dancing.”
“With you and your brother?”
“Well, with the whole family. Our cousins, everybody. Sarah, too.” You realized you were a lot closer to Joel than when you started, but you were still managing not to step on his feet. You smiled. “She’s been dancing at family parties since she was just a kid. Everyone on that side loves to dance, with, ah, varying levels of skill.”
You laughed. “Sounds fun.”
“It is,” he agreed. “Never a dull moment.” The song was coming to an end, and Joel slowed you to a stop. “What do you think? Another song?” You smiled and nodded, and Joel winked at you. “Think we can speed it up?”
“Maybe just a little? Not too much?”
He nodded. “Don’t worry, darlin’, I won’t throw anything too complicated at you. We’re just getting started.”
Joel led you through a few more dances, and you felt more and more confident with each one. In the last one before you decided to take a break he even threw in a (successful) spin and dipped you a bit. You laughed, feeling breathless. He slowly pulled you back up, flush with his chest, and you found yourself staring into his eyes from just a few inches away. Without your conscious input your gaze dropped to his lips. He leaned in before you could and kissed you once, softly, before pulling back and resting his forehead against your own.
“I haven’t had that much fun dancing since I can remember, darlin’.”
You chuckled. “Even though I barely know what I’m doing?”
He shook his head and kissed you again, softly. “You picked it up pretty quick, you know. But it doesn’t matter, I’d rather dance with you than do something fancy. You wanna sit down for a bit?” You nodded, and he pulled away to lead you back to your table. You realized you’d almost started making out with Joel in the middle of the dance floor, but a quick look around revealed that no one was really paying attention to you since the band was still playing.
You noticed as you sat down that Joel had pulled his chair much closer to yours. You could have put your legs over his lap without needing to move any closer. His arm came down around you with his hand at your waist, so you leaned into him to talk. “How well do you know Frank?”
You felt his thumb start to move up and down against your side as he answered. “He’s closer with Tess, but I’ve known him for about 10 years now. Sarah loves him. She would have begged to come tonight if it wasn’t a date.”
“Oh, that’s too bad! Next time she should come.” It was out of your mouth before you thought about it, but you meant it, so you tried to look confident.
“Next time, hmm?” Joel smiled at you. “I like the sound of that.” He cleared his throat, and looked a bit hesitant. “You, uh, you would be ok with that?”
“With what, Joel?” You tilted your head as you considered him. You weren’t sure why he was suddenly hesitant, after being so confident on the dance floor.
“With Sarah, coming along with us.”
“Joel, of course! Sarah’s great, and besides, I want to date you. That means I want to get to know you. All of you. The whole package, you know? I’d love to get to know Sarah.” You felt suddenly hesitant yourself, even as you watched him relax, smile returning. “If that’s, well. If that’s alright with you. I don’t want to overstep.”
He shook his head. “No, darlin’, Sarah already likes you and I’d love for you two to get to know each other. And get to know your family, too. But I do want to take you on more dates. Just the two of us.”
You smiled. “Let’s do both, then. I’ll bring Ellie along sometime, too.” You leaned in and let your head rest against his shoulder, despite the slight discomfort of sitting so close in two wooden chairs. “I’m having a good time, Joel, I already know I’d love to do this again.”
You felt him rest his cheek against the top of your head and smiled into his shirt. He squeezed your side with the hand that had been playing idly with your waistband. “Honey, I’d love nothin’ more.”
You sat like that through a few more songs, enjoying the feeling of being under Joel’s arm. It felt like all of your attention was taken by the hand at your waist as his thumb moved slowly back and forth in a soft caress. You closed your eyes to enjoy the sensation and tried to focus on not letting yourself get all worked up in public.
After a while, the band announced a break, and you startled and sat up a bit. The dance floor was clearing out, and you turned and looked at Joel. He was looking at you.
“What do you think, Joel? Do you want to dance some more?”
He hummed in response before pulling you close again to murmur in your ear.  “What do you think about taking this somewhere a little more quiet? Somewhere we can talk, maybe have another drink.”
You turned your head and found yourself with your lips just inches from his own. “Talk, huh?”
He smiled a bit sheepishly, but winked. “You call the shots here, darlin’.”
“Let’s stick around for one more dance, and then go get that drink. And then maybe head home.” He looked disappointed, and tried to hide it, but you raised your eyebrows at him with a smile and he straightened, surprised.
“Home?” He asked, with not a little hope. It made you grin.
“Well, I never said whose home. But we can figure it out.”
Joel’s eyes narrowed as he took in your teasing tone. “Honey, I’ll go anywhere you’d like.”
You wondered if implying you’d go home with him on the first date was too much, but you shrugged it off. You’d had lunch twice, anyway. That made this like a third date, right? You knew Joel was interested, and so were you. Clearly for more than one night. And you couldn’t stop thinking about his kiss in your office, and what it might have been like to not be interrupted. To hell with it.
“Well then, let’s go back to the dance floor, and then we can go get another drink somewhere, and then head home.” You paused and let it hold for a moment before smirking at him. “Together.” The smile that took over his face was your favorite one yet — wicked and wide.
“Baby, I like the way you think.” You eyed his smile and decided you needed to stand up before “home” became “the bathroom of the Tipsy Bison.” You shook your head and leaned back.
“Come on, you flirt.” You nudged him with your shoulder.
“You like the way I flirt.” He nudged you right back.
You sighed. “I really, really do, Joel.” Before you could go anywhere, though, Frank reappeared at the side of your table.
“Hello, lovebirds!” Joel groaned, but you smiled. “Told you I’d introduce my husband so I had to drag him over here. This is Bill.” Frank stepped to the side to reveal a man about his age or a little older with a beard and a stern face. You introduced yourself and noted that Bill might not have a smile for you, but he definitely had one for Frank. Bill nodded at Joel, who nodded back. Frank rolled his eyes. “These two would just sit in silence with the occasional grunts if I left them alone.” You laughed as Joel sighed and Bill just shrugged.
You chatted with the two of them for a couple of minutes before Frank had to go back on stage, and Bill headed back to his corner booth. You turned back to Joel and smiled. “I like them.” He nodded.
“They’re good people, even if Bill is a bit grumpy.”
“Hmm,” you tilted your head, considering his words.
He raised an eyebrow at you. “What?”
“Nothing,” you grinned. You wondered how often Joel got told he and Bill were alike. He seemed to pick up on what you were thinking and rolled his eyes before sighing and letting his head fall back.
“Not you, too, darlin’.”
“Look, I’m just saying, I see a resemblance.” You tried not to laugh. Joel tilted his head back down and looked at you through narrowed eyes.
“Now, honey, when have I ever been grumpy with you, hmm?” He leaned closer and lifted his hand to run his thumb lightly down your jawline. You bit your lip and he tugged gently with his thumb to release it.
“Maybe I’m just special,” you teased him.
“You are,” he responded, completely serious. You wanted to kiss him again, but before you could, he leaned back and stood, holding out his hand to you. “Now, I believe I was promised another dance.” You laughed and stood as well. He leaned over to press a quick kiss to the corner of your mouth before leading you back onto the dance floor.
Frank’s band had just started up again, and they were playing a slower song. Joel pulled you into his arms again, with his left hand settling in the small of your back and his right holding your left. You let your right hand slide up his shoulder and brushed his neck with your fingertips. He leaned forward and pressed a kiss to your hairline before murmuring, “follow me, darlin’.”
Joel led you into the step he’d taught you earlier, but held you closer while he did it. You found yourself with your head resting on his shoulder as he smoothly guided you around your corner of the dance floor. You let your eyes fall closed and sank into his embrace, trusting your memory of the simple step and Joel’s skills to keep you steady.
He was warm, and broad. Whatever aftershave or cologne or maybe even soap he’d used smelled delicious, and you nuzzled into his neck before you realized what you were doing. He hummed and pulled you even closer. “I like dancin’ with you, honey.”
You could feel his voice rumble in his chest and it made you smile. You moved your head slightly to press a kiss against his neck. He turned his head towards you but you didn’t pull back. “Me too, Joel.”
Your arm had crept around the back of his neck, and you realized he had slowed your steps to almost just swaying in place. You were pressed against him and the awareness of his body against yours rushed through you. The knowledge that you were in public on a dance floor struck you, but all you wanted was to get as close to Joel as possible. Your breath hitched, and you felt Joel take a deep breath in response. He shifted so his right leg nudged between yours, and you closed your eyes at the sweeping feeling in your stomach — he wasn’t quite touching you there, but the suggestion was enough to send heat tingling up your spine. Almost against your will your hips moved just a little bit closer to his own. You both froze.
Suddenly he tightened his grip around your waist and spun you both around, causing you to fall into him more. “Joel!” You pulled back and found him grinning at you. The look in his eye told you he was right there with you, but you both knew you were still in public. He released your waist and spun you away from him before pulling you back in right as the music picked up.
“What do you think, gorgeous? One more dance?” You nodded, breathless. As he led you once more around your corner of the dance floor, your eyes stayed locked on his. You felt like you were in a whirlwind, but all you could see was Joel. As you danced, it was like the two of you were completely in sync — he moved his leg, and you mirrored the movement. He tightened his grip around your waist to turn you, and you followed like it was easier than breathing. Neither of you spoke as you moved together but it felt like the connection between you grew taut. You felt it pull at you, pull you closer to Joel, draw you towards him like a hook caught behind your heart.
When the music stopped, the two of you did as well, and neither of you moved as the band started to play another song. Joel was looking into your eyes, face intent. He pulled you closer and let go of your left hand, placing his right softly along your jaw. He tilted your head up towards his and pulled you into a soft kiss.
“I could dance with you all night, gorgeous.” He spoke with his lips barely an inch from your own.
You kissed him again. “Me too, Joel.”
He smiled and used his hand to tilt your face to the side so he could kiss your neck lightly, just in front of your ear. “Should we keep dancin’, baby? Or should we go get that drink?” He punctuated his question with a kiss to the corner of your jaw, and then your cheek, and then your mouth, lingering there. It took you a moment to open your eyes again when he pulled away, and you found him looking at you with so much emotion that it took your breath away.
“Let’s get going, cowboy.”
He raised his eyebrows. “Cowboy, hmm?”
You shrugged. “Just trying it out, like I said. Take me for a ride, cowboy.”
Joel grinned, wickedly. “Baby, it would be my pleasure.” As he said it he steered you back to your table. He quickly paid your tab — leaving a nice tip, you noticed — and then turned to usher you out the door. You watched as he waved at Frank, who nodded, and Bill, who tipped his glass towards the two of you, and then he took your hand to lead you outside.
As you stepped on to the sidewalk, Joel turned to the right to head to the corner of the block. “There’s a little tiny place right around the corner that has some of the best mixed drinks I’ve ever had,” he told you.
You perked up. “Oh, you mean Marlene’s?”
He smiled. “That’s the one. I take it you’ve been?”
You nodded, but added, “I have, but I love it. I think that’s the perfect place to go next.” He squeezed your hand and led you around the corner.
Marlene’s had a narrow facade — the inside was long, but the width of the whole place was only enough for tables along one wall and the long bar along the other, until you got to the back and it opened up a bit with some larger tables and couches. It was cozy, with string lights and art all over the walls. Marlene’s was known for the cocktail menu, which featured a rotating list of hard-to-source alcohols and interesting mixers, as well as the non-alcoholic options that still tasted amazing. You and Beth often ended up here if you went out for after-work drinks.
When you stepped inside it was a bit busy, but not so busy that you couldn’t find a table. There was one open in the back in a corner, actually one of your favorites — it was like a tiny round booth, with only enough room for two or three people. It had higher sides on the front like it was from an old saloon, so once you were inside it felt like a cozy nook. It was a bit awkward to get in and out of, though. You wondered where Marlene had found it.
You sat while Joel headed back to the bar to get your drinks — he’d mentioned getting one of the non-alcoholic ones since he would be driving you home, so you asked for the same. He was back quickly and soon the two of you were snuggled into the booth. He had his left arm around your shoulders, and your legs were draped over his left knee as you turned towards him in the small booth.
“Come here often, gorgeous?” He winked at you as he took a sip of his drink.
“Beth and I do, sometimes. I’ve always liked it.”
He nodded. “Me too. Tess and Frank love it. And Tommy, though he usually prefers the Bison.” You smiled. You were really looking forward to meeting Tommy, eventually.
“So, Joel.” The more official tone you put on had him straightening his shoulders and you tried not to grin. “You’ve told me a bit about you — I know about Sarah, obviously, and now I know your whole — large? — family dances. I know you like live music and plaid shirts.” He smiled shyly and rubbed the back of his neck with his right hand. “And I know the way you kiss knocks the breath right out of me.” His eyebrows raised and he leaned forward a bit, but you placed a hand on his chest and laughed. “Slow down, cowboy. I have some questions.”
“Ah, darlin’—” he started, but you interrupted.
“Nothing bad, Joel. I just want to learn more about you. I want to, well,” your tone shifted and became more hesitant, but he watched you intently all the same. “I want to know you.”
Joel lifted his right hand and cupped your cheek, gently pulling you forward into a soft kiss. “I want to know you too, honey.” He cleared his throat as he sat back, letting his right hand fall to hold your left in your lap. “Alright, then. Shoot. What do you want to know?”
“Hmmm,” you tapped the fingers of the hand he wasn’t holding against your chin in thought. “Alright, let’s start simple. And I’ll answer the same questions I ask you, ok? And you should ask some, whatever you want.” He smiled and nodded. “Ok. What’s your favorite color?”
Joel laughed and shook his head. “Well, I do like green, but Sarah says it’s blue, on account of how much of it I wear.”
You smiled. “Those can be different things, you know. My favorite color isn’t the one I wear most often.”
He ran his thumb over the back of your hand and hummed. “My turn? Ok, where are you from, darlin’?”
The two of you traded questions back and forth. Sometimes you got distracted — Joel mentioned being from a small town outside of Austin, and the two of you compared your hometowns for a while. Then Joel mentioned one of Tommy’s shenanigans from when they were kids, and the story had you laughing so hard you fell against Joel’s chest (but he caught you with both arms wrapped around your waist).
You touched a bit on more serious topics, but didn’t get into too much detail. Sarah’s mom wasn’t around, but he said he’d tell you the whole story another time. You nodded. You said your sister, Ellie’s mom, had gone through a rough time a few years back, and Ellie had stayed with you for a while. That’s why Ellie was still with you so often. Your sister was doing better but she worked most weekends and a lot of nights. He nodded, understanding. You both quickly changed the subject. You had time, after all.
Joel told you about his summer vacation with Sarah and Tommy, which featured hiking and time at the beach and ended with the three of them a bit sun worn but relaxed and happy. He told you Sarah had requested visiting a city next time, though, and you laughed and told him about Ellie’s inner gremlin and her love of camping.
Before you knew it, an hour had passed, and you felt like you knew so much more about the man in front of you. You knew his favorite color (“it’s green!” You insisted, “you said so!”), his favorite breakfast food (migas, but only how his grandma made it), how he took his coffee (black), a few of the trials and tribulations of Tommy Miller, Sarah’s soccer highlights, more about what she was doing in school (and how much she (and Joel and Tommy) hated her biology teacher), a bit more about the large extended family that liked to dance, and finally, Joel’s dream career when he was a kid (musician).
“Wait, really? A singer?” He ducked his head, looking embarrassed, but nodded. “Joel, hey,” you reached out to tilt his chin back up and pressed a kiss to his cheek. “I’m not making fun. That’s amazing. I’d love to hear you sing.” You were leaning close as you said it, almost fully sitting in his lap at this point. He studied you, a serious look on his face.
“I’ll sing for you whenever you want, gorgeous.” His voice was deeper than it had been even a moment before, and you took a deep breath.
“Yeah?” He nodded. “Bet you were really something, playing shows. Young Joel Miller with a guitar? God, how many women did you sweep off their feet?” You grinned at him, teasing.
He smirked and rolled his eyes. “Not as many as you’d think.”
“Oh come on, Joel, I would have had the biggest crush on you.”
He laughed. “Darlin’, I thought you had a crush on me now.”
You rolled your eyes. “That is neither here nor there, Joel Miller. Ugh, I can almost picture it. Wait, do you have any pictures?” You knew you looked excited and tried to tame it a bit, but he smiled and laughed.
“I do, but uh, I might also have a recording.”
“What! I have to see it. Please?”
He studied you again, looking over your wide eyes and pleading smile. “Hmm on the first date?” His voice was teasing, and he pinched your side lightly, making you squirm. “Don’t you think that’s more of a second date activity?” You bit your lip, considering your next words. But you had no reason to doubt yourself, or him. You were pretty sure you were on the same page, here.
“You know, technically, we have had a couple of lunch dates.” He huffed a laugh. “But what about a morning-after activity?” You said it teasingly, but also a little breathlessly. You were sitting so close that you got to watch his reaction take over his face and it mesmerized you. His brows rose as his eyes darkened, and he gave you that wicked half smile that made you melt.
“Well, now,” he started, and his voice was deep. You felt it rumbling in his chest where your hands rested lightly against his shirt. “I reckon you’ll just have to come over and find out.” He used his left arm to pull you up so you were finally sitting fully across his lap. You met his eye and licked across your bottom lip. His own gaze dropped from yours to track the path of your tongue.
“I reckon I will, then,” you agreed. You could feel your heartbeat pick up as he squeezed your side with his left hand and brought his right up to brush his fingertips down your neck. “Can’t miss my chance to hear you sing.”
He shook his head. “Honey, I told you, I’ll sing for you whenever you want.” He leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to the corner of your mouth, and your breath hitched. “I’d sing for you right now, if you wanted.” He pressed another kiss to your chin, and then under your jaw. You tilted your head up to give him better access. “I don’t think you realize how much I’d do for you, if you asked.” You thought of your maintenance requests, and the plants, and the coffees, and thought maybe you did have some idea.
“Joel,” you whispered, and he hummed in response. “Sing me something.” You tried to make it sound like a teasing demand, but it came out more like a plea.
He nipped your neck. “Anything, honey, or you got something in mind?”
“Whatever you want to sing to me, Joel, that’s what I want to hear.”
He pulled back suddenly and moved his hands to rearrange you on his lap. You found yourself with your back flush against his chest, his arms wrapped around your waist. You placed your hands on top of his. “Close your eyes, gorgeous.” You let your head fall back over his shoulder as you did as he asked.
He hummed, and moved his right hand to your thigh, where he squeezed gently. You squirmed a little in his lap and he chuckled, holding you still with his left arm around your waist. “Shh, honey, just get comfortable. Right here.”
You let yourself sink into his touch, wondering what he would sing for you. He nuzzled against your neck, maybe still deciding, and your legs fell open a bit further without your conscious input. You bit your lip and he kissed your neck as his right hand moved to grip the inside of your thigh. And then he started to sing.
“Take me now, baby, here as I am Hold me close, try and understand Desire is hunger is the fire I breathe Love is a banquet on which we feed”
You gasped at the first word. Joel’s singing voice was beautiful. It was deep and warm and a little gravely. Even as quiet as he was singing you felt like it was lifting you up, floating through the air around you.
“Come on now try and understand The way I feel when I'm in your hands Take my hand, come undercover”
Joel hummed, maybe the next part of the song. You realized you were holding his left arm in a tight grip and tried to relax your hands. He squeezed the inside of your right thigh reassuringly, and you noticed how high his hand had drifted while he sang. You shifted your weight and let your left leg fall further to the side. His hand inched higher.
“Because the night belongs to lovers Because the night belongs to lust Because the night belongs to lovers Because the night belongs to us”
You knew this song, but hearing Joel sing it was an entirely new experience. You could hardly think about anything but where he was touching you — everywhere — and feel his voice washing over you. Your senses were filled with nothing but him.
He let the last word of the chorus fade, and you came back to yourself only to realize you had started breathing faster, chest heaving with it. “You alright there, darlin’?” His low voice had intrigued you before but now it reminded you of his singing and your breath stuttered in your chest.
“Yes, Joel, I—”
“You sure?” As he asked again, he slid his hand just a bit higher on your thigh so that his thumb rested right in the inside crease of your hip. He wasn’t quite touching you there, not really, but his proximity drew your sudden attention to how wet you were. You were soaked, just from listening to him sing. Fuck. You squirmed on his lap, but your motion accidentally drew him closer to you, and the side of his thumb brushed against the seam of your pants, right over your core. You gasped, and belatedly realized he had had the same reaction.
“Oh, honey,” his thumb pressed down, just a little bit, just enough to make you thrust your hips forward without thinking about it. He held you in place with his left arm while running a line of kisses up your neck to your ear. “You’re soaked, honey. I can feel you, right through these pants. Jesus, you must be so fucking wet. And all for me? Goddamn,” he sounded delighted at the prospect. He pressed down again with his thumb, and the noise that came out of you could only be described as a whimper.
“Shh, don’t worry, honey. I’ll take good care of you.” He whispered in your ear as his hand crept closer to displacing his thumb. You couldn’t catch your breath. “Give you everything you want, sweetheart. Everything.” He emphasized the last word with a sudden grip to your pussy, his whole hand moving over the seam of your pants and cupping you firmly. But in a flash, his hand was gone again, and you were left reeling, breathing hard, eyes flying open.
“Shit,” you whispered, with the belated realizations that you were still at Marlene’s fucking bar, in a booth where technically people could see you. You glanced around, but the high walls of the booth protected you, and Joel had pulled you both to the side, so you were facing away from the room on his lap. Smart.
Joel didn’t respond, and you whipped around to look at him. The hesitant look on his face told you he’d misunderstood your curse. You cursed again. “Fuck, Joel. Get me out of here.” He twitched, but didn’t move. “Joel, you need to take me home. Right now.” You were aroused and sweaty and in public and one of those things was in your power to change right at his moment. You cupped his face in your hands, still breathing hard, but you softened your voice. “Take me home, Joel, together. I want to go home with you.” He finally smiled again, reassured, and nodded. He started to maneuver both of you out of the tiny booth.
“Well come on then, honey, we got places to be.” Before you knew it he was leading you by the hand out the door, and you barely had a minute to wonder if anyone inside Marlene’s could tell you’d just almost gotten off in that booth back there. Oh well.
Joel was walking fast, and you tugged on his arm to slow him down a bit. “Joel, hey, wait,” he stopped abruptly and turned to look at you, and you saw everything you were feeling painted across his face. You blinked and gathered yourself to keep from kissing him. “I didn’t get a chance to say, Joel, fuck, your voice.” He smiled at you and tugged you closer. “You’re so good. Do you ever– do you ever sing, anymore?”
He shrugged, a bit sadly. “Just for Sarah, really. And now you.” You squeezed his hand.
“Well, I loved it, so please, sing for me whenever you’d like.” He nodded, looking a bit bashful. “But, ah, maybe we try that again somewhere a little more private, next time.”
He quirked an eyebrow at you. “Oh yeah?”
You nodded, stiffly. “I’m just saying, if you’re going to hold me like that, and sing to me like that, I might need a little privacy.” You bit your lip as he stepped closer and leaned in to whisper in your ear.
“Honey, if you want me to play with your pussy while I sing to you, you only have to ask.” You gasped. When he pulled back he was grinning wickedly, and you laughed.
“You better keep that promise, Joel Miller.” He swooped in to kiss you again quickly, before pulling back to lead you down the street.
“Baby, I always keep my promises. Especially promises like that one.” He winked.
After you crossed the street, Joel turned and took both of your hands in his. “I just want to ask again, darlin’, I don’t want to assume anything.”
You considered him and smiled. “My answer is yes, Joel.” He shook his head and laughed, lowly.
“Humor me. Say it again?” You untangled your right hand from his and lifted it to cup his cheek. You smoothed your thumb along his cheekbone and he turned to kiss your palm.
“Yes, Joel. I want to go home with you. I’ve got a video to watch in the morning, after all.” He grinned into your hand and bit it lightly. You gasped and laughed as he reached out to pull you into another kiss.
“Let’s get out of here, gorgeous.”

Deny the truth, set my world on fire (Part 3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bucky Barnes x Reader (Winter Soldier x Reader)
He knew that she was having an affair...she denies, but the love marks on her body are still there. She can't tell him the truth, it will break him - the Winter Soldier is indeed inside of him, fucking her at night and Bucky doesn't remember. Part 1⋆*・゚:⋆*・ Part 2 ⋆*・゚:⋆* Part 4⋆*・゚:⋆* Music --- Vivaldi - Winter (L'inverno) Quotes - Fyodor Dostoevsky └── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──┘ Warnings - heavy ANGST, mention of murder, non-con
youtube
Listened to it on repeat until i finished the chapter. Enjoy. ✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧ Calm, boring days, an unknown future, and an irregular sleep, the days pass and nothing new. The absence of knowledge is the presence of paranoia – she crumbles mentally. It's been happening for so long – it is all that is happening, over and over again. She is full of fear, leading to feeling grief. Her life, a tragedy, a land of devastation and destruction. All the bright, precious things of Bucky fade so fast – in the end, memories are all she keeps. It makes her tremble to think back, to remember how she thought their life would be. Her greatest regret – believing so much in their future. She used to build dreams about Bucky and now she can’t believe if she will ever do it again - she treads the icy path between Spring and Winter, slowly and cautiously, for fear of tripping and falling into the snow again, for fear of losing her dearest Spring. She feels the chill north winds coursing through her home, despite the locked and bolted doors…this is Winter, which nonetheless brings it's own delight – after Winter, Spring always comes next.
She spend so much time in my head and in her heart that she forgets to live in her body, not hearing someone entering.
“Pain and suffering are always inevitable for a large intelligence and a deep heart. The really great men must, I think, have great sadness on earth.”
She blinks at that line of the book, her mind lingering once again to Bucky…but when is a monster not a monster – oh, when you are the reason, it has become mangled…she remembers when those eyes said love loudly, now these walls so quietly shift towards her as he leans on the door frame stealthy, still not alerting her. She puts the book aside, deciding to wash her dishes – her vast inner solitude poisoning her whole existence, there is no dignity in loneliness. The worst moment, when sitting alone at dinner, she has forgotten the ocean eyes, the depth of his laugh, it all had faded into into the past, where memories are silent.
Winter brushes his hands along the hardwood of the door, tentatively waiting for a sign that she had noticed him in the doorway. Three knocks follow on the wooden frame and her shoulders are already quavering, he once again craved a bullet with her name on it, burning Bucky down and in the ashes left behind – coming to burn her.
She glances at the door behind her as she holds her arms wrapped around herself before turning around to face him. Winter seems so human with his genuine smile, nodding slowly when his presence is finally acknowledged. Rage explodes inside, fire rushing over her skin. Winter’s face is flooding with color by then, and she finds that the sight makes her feel refreshingly nostalgic – the shades of Bucky somehow showing.
Dem light plays upon his face, revealing gleaming eyes, a mouth pulled into a grin. Stillness wraps her up in a cold embrace, a chill running down her body as he speaks.
„I warned you and you didn’t listen“
Winter shifts closer, caging her to the counter.
"Oh no…“ she whispers brokenly.
She brakes into a sob she could not contain, hands wrestled free from his grasp and worked their way to shield herself. He grips her hips, drawing her close, and roughly presses his mouth to the soft, swollen lips. Soldat longed for her for so long, dreamed of it as one would of an impossible journey to the moon, and now? How would he ever let her go?
The winters are becoming longer, very monotonous. Spring does come eventually, but it feels so short, looking back – it is not much more than a coupe of days.
He steps back, his fist unclenching, urging her to see – Walker’s work badge. All of her paranoia which played complicated possible outcomes - what an utterly incomprehensible thing has happened - without delay, Winter plucks every vibrating string in her mind by choosing to mock her.
„I warned you“
„You fucking monster what have you done?! I hate you so much I wish they never created you! I want you gone so much it hurts.“
His heart becomes a shriveled rose, poisoned with death and petals fall with every word from her mouth, sending him into a bottomless pit of anger.
„I will tell him, I will tell Bucky the tru-“
If once one has recognized the truth and seen it, you know that it is the truth and that there is no other and there cannot be, whether you are asleep or awake.
The melodious ringing sounds of Bucky’s dog tag chimes deep into her soul – as he holds them in front of her – as if a funeral bell is ringing, pealing for one a last farewell.
„Bucky is no longer“ dressed in all black, he is giving the eulogy „We can bury him together“ he says with the intend to drop them on the floor, but she catches them.
Up in her conscience, it's making her nauseous, she shifts backwards momentarily, but there is no where to run. Instinctively, Winter tightens his hold on her waist, though he neither pushes her away nor pulls her closer – just grounds her in place when she tries to slide to the floor.
„No…it can’t be, I don’t believe it“ comes her unenlightening, despondent response.
„He never picked up the phone that day. It was me, doll“
Now it all began to fall into place. A poor, beautiful, tragic fool - he had thrown her hope away on a moment's false illusion, and she was paying dearly for it. With her hope, her love, her soul.
„No, you are lying“ she whispers brokenly, her voice trembling. She blinks at him, her eyes enormous pools of misery with wetness clinging to the lashes and collecting in the tender indentation above her top lip.
„Stop crying “ he licks the hollow of her throat. "It is getting annoying“ a long, slow lick up her throat "…цветок“ (flower)
And if it frightens and torments her to think of Bucky and the simplicity and silence that accompanies him – she still believes in the illusion that he is there, it’s life-giving.
His left hand slides up gently to cup her chin as he leans in and kisses her once more, and with all her strength that she could find, she slaps him across the face, forcing it to turn to the side. He murmurs her name low. She whispers „no’s“. Winter presses himself close, giving a hollow bark of laughter as his angry gaze searches hers. He feels the trembling woman in his arms, her breathing shallow and uneven, clearly overcome with emotions.
„Тебе лучше, моя куколка?“ (Feeling better, my doll?)
„Don’t you dare call me that“
From the desert of Bucky’s abandoned love, he dares mock her pain. Winter stares her down, watching every reaction as his hands memorizes her curves, groaning, his fingers clawing at her back and quite possibly tearing her shirt.
Bucky dreams - the trees, stripped of all foliage, are white and bone-dry, twisted and curved like desiccated skeletons. Smoke drifts up from the scorched soil that crunches under his feet. In the distance, there’s a hill where, on the other side, y/n stands waving at him. He quickens his steps. She is calling for him, her voice distant, desperate.
The smoke beneath his feet thickens, he is choking as he he is trying to find her.
The fog begins to thin.
He is no longer walking on stone or dirt, but on show.
Winter of the world has come, and her body is lying on the ground, thin layer of snow covering it.
He wakes up, covered in sweat, looking around and everything is so unfamiliar, it’s feasting off his fragile and confused being.
– and there she lies – – not dressed in snow, but in white sheets.
In the deepening grasp of reality, Bucky has no choice but to recognize the trembling in his own heart. A trembling ocean underneath his eyelids. The veil of sadness and shame – causes him to scream as he holds her body, awaiting her warmth.
„Y/n? Baby…what-t, where, baby come on wake up“
„Baby, please wake up, Jesus what happened…I can’t remem-“
But love unexplained is clearer.
She is still clinging on something, still clinging on hope – the dog tags – it seems that she wanted to pour out all her heart into his heart in hopes of waking him up – she loved him, she shall love him always, loving him more than life itself. “Much unhappiness has come into the world because of bewilderment and things left unsaid.” PART 4 ✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧

Deception~
Morax (Zhongli) x Adeptus! Reader | Ch. I |
Oh hello, my dear readers! I hope you are all having a good day/night! This story is actually a requested story. Now, I know I said that requests are closed, but this person sent me this same request on my older account and so I feel as if I owe it to them for being so patient. So this is a request from @sailorstar9 and I decided to make this into a two/three-part story because I have a really good idea on how to write this. I’ll share with y'all what the first part said so the second part doesn’t get spoiled…you know…just to keep you all on edge ToT. Anyways, here is part of the request!
“As promised, my request piece inspire by your 'Betrayal' series. It's been a while since I submitted the original, so I try to recall what I wrote as much as I can. Here goes. Adeptus!Reader is one of the few Adepti who specializes in healing and purification; it had been her purification rites that prevented the Yakshas from succumbing to their karmic debts. More importantly, she is Rex Lapis' wife, a position Guizhong always wanted for herself. It was at one of the Adepti gatherings that Rex Lapis proudly announced that Reader is pregnant. The other Adepti rejoiced; their Lord finally had an heir. Meanwhile, Guizhong seethed inwardly and she started to plot”
And so, here is chapter I to “Deception”. I hope it meets your expectations! And thank you for the amazing request! Enjoy~
Tumblr media
I smiled as tears slowly fell down my face, my body softly glowing from the pure joy I felt. In my hand lay a gorgeous blue lotus flower, confirming my suspicions. Just to be sure, however, I picked up another white lotus flower and let one of my tear drops fall onto it. Within seconds, the white flower quickly transformed into a blue colored lotus, letting me know that I was in fact pregnant. I quickly ran back to Morax’s palace, excited to tell him the news. We had been trying for months, and I mean we were really, really trying. However, no matter what, every time I came out to the Garden of Blooming Lotus’, they would always stay white, telling us that we still had not successfully made a baby. It was getting to the point where I was becoming worried that it was me.
Thankfully, all of that can be put to rest now after seeing the blue flower. I had never loved the color blue so much up until this point.
A few minutes passed and I finally made it back to my and my beloved’s home.
“Hey, N/n-Woah! Why are you glowing??” Bosacius asked as he covered his eyes. I turned to him with the biggest smile ever, the flower still in my hand.
“Oh Bosa, it is because I have just found out amazing news!” I said, running past him towards Morax’s throne.
“Woah! Tell me what it is! I wanna know!” He called out to me, but I ignored him, too busy with my own thoughts of how Morax would react.
Once I finished running up the stairs, I saw that his doors were closed, meaning that he was in a meeting with the other archons. I know I should just wait…I don’t want to interrupt his important meetings…
But this is far more important! At least to me it is…and I would hope it was more important to him as well. I shrugged my shoulders and quickly pushed open the doors, the sound echoing throughout the entire room. There were about 15 other archons there, all of who looked back at me to see what I was doing. Morax stopped speaking mid-sentence when he saw you, his pride and joy, standing there with the brightest smile he had ever seen. Not to mention, your body was glowing a bit. That alone made his heart flutter and jump.
However, he was soon full of concern when he saw your eyes. They were full of tears…yet your body displayed the complete opposite emotion of sadness…
“Excuse us, Y/n, but we are in a very important meeting.” Guizhong said, glaring daggers at you, but you were too busy to notice.
“No, this meeting is finished. We will have further discussion another time. You may all leave.” Morax said, motioning for them to leave, his eyes still fixated on you.
“But, Morax, we haven’t finished talking about-”
“I said leave.” Morax said back, this time taking his eyes off of you and onto Guizhong.
“Oh…it’s okay. I can come back once you guys are finish-” You started to speak, but Morax stopped you.
“No, my love. You stay here. Everyone else…out…now!” He said, his voice booming throughout the entire room. Everyone quickly got up out of their seats and scurried out of the room, leaving you and Morax completely alone.
He got up from his throne, walking down the short set of stairs to get closer to you.
Once he reached you, he placed his hand out, cupping your face and wiping your tears.
“My dear…why are you crying? Is something the matter? Did someone harm you?” He asked softly, placing soft kisses on your tear-stained cheeks.
Suddenly, a giggle emitted from your mouth, confusing Morax even more.
“Morax, my love, I am okay…in fact, I am overflowed with joy.” You said, wrapping your arms around him, bringing him down to your lips. You kissed him with such passion and love that it almost made Morax fall down to his knees.
“As much as I am happy to hear you are so happy…may I ask what happened to make you this way?”
“I have a surprise for you…” I said, showing him both of the blue lotus flowers.
He took a second to examine what you have just showed him, taking in the details before his eyes almost popped out of his face. He snapped his head back to you, his eyes full of hope but his mouth at a loss for words. It all made sense now. Why you were so happy, why you had tears in your eyes, why you were glowing, it all made sense!
“Y-You’re…You’re…”
“I believe the word you are looking for is…pregnant!” You said happily, jumping.
Tears welled up in his eyes as he realized that he is going to be a father. Soon, he will have a family with the woman he loves so much.
He quickly grabbed you, wrapping his arms around your waist and twisting you in the air with him, laughing at the great news.
“Oh, I can’t believe that I am going to be a father soon!” He said with a bright smile, kissing you as you were still in the air.
You giggled a bit as you wrapped your arms around him, deepening the kiss.
You both cut off the kiss a little while after, allowing you both to breathe. As you did, you both continued to stare at each other lovingly.
“You are going to be a great father, Morax. Our little baby is going to absolutely adore you.” You said, cupping his cheek in your hand.
Morax’s heart almost jumped out of his chest at your sweet words.
“And our little baby is going to be so lucky to have a mother like you. Any kid would. When I saw you playing with some of the children last year during our Archon party, I knew you would be amazing as a mother…and I’m so happy to know that you are the mother of my child…our child.” he said, softly landing you back on your feet.
He leaned down once more, placing his lips softly on yours, almost as if he didn’t want to break you.
“I love you, Y/n. I love you so much and will never stop, even after my death.” He spoke softly to you, holding your hand in his.
You smiled up at him, feeling your heart race at his words. Even after all these years of being married to him, he still always knows how to make your heart flutter.
“And I love you, Morax. I always will, no matter what, and even after death.” I said, copying a bit of his sentence.
He chuckled, wrapping his arms around you.
“We have to tell the others of this great news! They would love to hear it!” He suggested, making you smile
“I was thinking the same thing. Especially because Bosa is expecting me to tell him soon and if I don’t, he will be very heartbroken.” I said, making Morax smile as he walked me out.
“Thankfully, everyone should still be outside. So it should be no issue for us to get the message out quickly.” He said happily, holding your hands in his.
After a few minutes of you two talking as you walked outside, you two finally made it to the stone staircase, seeing everyone still out and about, including the Yaksha’s.
“Attention everyone!” Morax called out, his voice booming throughout the entire area.
Everyone suddenly came to a stop and focused their attention towards you two.
“We have some very exciting news to share with all of you. My wife would like to say something.” Morax said, looking down at you with a soft smile.
You looked out to everyone, specifically the Yaksha’s and smiled happily, placing your hand on your stomach.
“We are having a baby!” You said outloud. Within seconds cheers and gasps were heard from all around you.
Inadarius and Bonanus ran up to you two and congratulated you, excited about the new baby that would soon be here in this world.
“Oh I can’t believe it! You are going to make such a good mother, N/n!”
“I bet you it’s going to look exactly like you, N/n.”
“I hope that is the case.” Morax said, looking towards you
“The mother is very beautiful in every way after all.” He said, caressing your face.
Heat rose to your face as he flirted with you.
“Not in front of everyone, Morax.” You said, trying to hide the smile forming on your face.
“Yo, N/n! What are you planning on naming the baby? I’ve got a couple ideas!” Bosa said
“Please, your ideas come from you combining two of the first things you see.” Menogias says, rolling his eyes at him
“Nuh uh!” Bosa said
“Oh really, so where did you get dirt-cloud from?” Bonanus asked, knowing all too well that Bosa came up with the name by looking at the ground and the sky
“It was just an idea! Damn!” Bosa said, pouting from his friends teasing.
You chuckled at them, happy that they were all so excited for you. However, you couldn’t help but get an off feeling coming from behind you.
You turned around and saw Guizghong standing there, staring at you with lifeless eyes. It was very…unsettling to say the least.
“G-Guizhong! I didn’t see you there.” You said, trying to start up some sort of conversation with her.
Suddenly, Morax looked to where you were looking, seeing Guizhong. When she saw that Morax was looking at her, her whole demeanor changed. What once looked like a lifeless form turned into one full of happiness and love.
“Oh, sorry about that. I was just…thinking. Anyways, I must head back to my home. I have some…things I need to work on. Congrats on your baby by the way, Morax! See you both later!” She said, quickly turning on her heels and speeding off to her place.
For some reason you had a weird feeling in your gut. It was all washed away, however, when Morax pulled you into him, placing a finger under your chin.
“I can’t wait to start our family, my love. I especially can’t wait to start our family with you~”
He said, placing another soft kiss on your lips. You smiled into the kiss, feeling any worry or doubt in your body burn away and be replaced by love. You had no idea what the future held for you two, but no matter what, you knew you and Morax would get through it…
Together~

Welcome...Home..?
Overworked! GN! Reader X Welcome Home Crew
Chapter 1
TW: none
The beginning of a grand new friendship, and a bunch of new adventures yet to come. It appears as though our main character has yet to see just what they're about to go through. Such a busy bee!
Chapter 1 l Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 l Chapter 4
You slowly trudged up the steps of your porch, completely exhausted. Work has been awfully busy lately, with customers constantly coming in and out and being...."fun", as your boss put it. Not only that, but the workload your college classes have been putting on you lately has been overbearing! You've barely had any time to yourself. You haven't had time to indulge in your favorite hobbies, talk to any of your friends, or even look much at social media. It was a constant race to get things done and keep that money you so desperately needed rolling in.
You slid the key in the keyhole and turned. The door clicked open and a dark, dusty house welcomed you. An exasperated sigh sounded from you. Unfortunately, with your busy schedule, you also haven't had much time to clean your house.
You had been passed down your house from your great grandparents, who had both passed away a few years back. It was completely paid off, and even had some forest property to go along with it! Unfortunately, it was also pretty far in the forest, so you had to get up a bit extra early to make it anywhere on time. It also took up quite a bit of gas to get anywhere from there. You would move in with somebody to make it easier on yourself, but you didn't have many friends that lived in town anymore. None of the ones that did wanted or needed a roommate. Additionally, being a skeptic and cautious person led to not trusting many people on the internet. There was always a chance they would screw you over or possibly even murder you. You never knew.
Thud!
You dropped your heavy bag on the floor and your stomach, quick to catch the cue, growled. There was barely a thing in the fridge for ready-made food, and all of your dishes were dirty and disgusting. Even the thought of taking the time to wash them all made you feel more exhausted than you already were. The pantry didn't have much, either, but there was one thing that you could make in a few minutes without any extra work needed. Instant noodle cups.
"I really do play into the broke, tired college kid stereotype, huh?" You grumbled as you grabbed a cup from the pantry. It only took a few minutes, but you decided upon waiting for it to finish cooking to turn to the living room. The tv was dusty and rarely used, but you figured with the little free time you had you would watch something. "Anything to get my mind off of those Susans and Karens I have to face at work." The remote sat lonely in its spot on the tv stand as you walked over and picked it up. The screen was full of static for a moment, then to a news broadcast station. Humming, you flicked through the various stations, eventually settling on the most colorful one of them all.
A children's cartoon had just ended, and the colorful characters were saying their final goodbyes to the viewers.
"Maybe something simple will let me veg out for a bit. I don't need anything complicated right now." A small ding from the kitchen caught your attention. "Sounds like the noodles are done." One last mumble came from you as you turned your back to the tv and walked away. "My brain is already fried enough as is." When you got back and plopped down on your couch, a new cartoon had popped up. You figured it was a cartoon, anyway, from the extremely colorful title card. "Welcome Home" it read. "Must be a new show."
The colorful title card faded away and the camera panned down to a live set. The colorful scene caught your attention in full, and you felt yourself almost entranced. A house in the middle of a small neighborhood with eyes stared the viewer down with a supposedly friendly gaze. It waved with a window shutter before opening the door to the viewer as the camera wandered in. Inside, sitting at a canvas and easel was a small yellow puppet. He was humming away the show's friendly tune, slowly squeezing paint onto his palette. Finally, he noticed the viewer.
"Oh, hello, neighbor!" He waved to the viewer. His voice was gentle and slightly monotone. Strange, as he seems to be the main character. "Don't they usually have the main character of children's shows as more extraverted and full of energy and emotion?" "I was just about to start painting a lovely new painting for my friend Barnaby." He hummed and grabbed a brush, but hesitated upon moving to dip it in the paints. His gaze went back to the viewer, and he laughed. It was just as monotone as his usual voice, but what was even more off-putting was it being almost robotic in nature. "Oh, no. Thinking about it, I actually don't know what to paint." The handle tip of the brush was put against his cheek as the small puppet thought. "Say, neighbor," He looked back at the viewer. The small puppet's gaze distracted you from your food.
"That's weird...why does it feel...?" "As though he's looking directly at me?"
"Do you have any ideas? I'm sure there's some great ones in that head of yours!" His grin widened. Is that even possible for a puppet? You decided to remain quiet and stare back at him, completely entranced by the dark pools of his eyes. One minute went by. Then two. It wasn't until a third went by when you realized he hadn't gone back to painting. He was still staring, quiet and patient. "Neighbor?" The monotone voice caught you off gaurd, and you jumped in your seat. The puppet laughed and his gaze fell away from you for a moment. Just one. "Oh, no! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you!" You felt your blood run cold as he spoke once again, his voice even more gentle and ominous than before. Are you just that tired? Are you dreaming? You must be! "I can see you, you know." There it was again. That same, monotone laugh. His voice went back to normal. "That's okay if you don't want to answer me! It must be so strange for you. That I can see you. That I'm talking to you. But you don't have to worry! I won't hurt you!" The yellow puppet's eyes went wide. "Oh! I have an idea, now! You gave me the perfect idea, neighbor! I'll paint you!"
A breath left your lungs as you watched him turn his attention back to his canvas and start painting. One you hadn't realized you'd been holding. He hummed the show's tune once more as he went to painting on his canvas. It would be comforting, if it wasn't for the fact he was indeed painting your unlit living room.
"It's nice to have a new neighbor." He mumbled out just loud enough for you to hear. "Not many come to visit anymore." He glanced back at you for a moment before he went back to painting. "Oh, silly me, I forgot to introduce myself! I was too excited...I'm Wally. Wally Darling." The puppet, as you now knew as Wally, went silent. Not even a theme song played in the background. Just the silence of his livingroom...and his occasional humming.
Time rolled by. After a while, it almost felt like normal. Like you two had known each other for a while and were just on some sort of quiet camera call. Your tense shoulders eventually relaxed, and although you were still too cautious to speak to the puppet, your eyelids slowly, ever so slowly, shut. Overworking yourself had gotten to you, and no longer could your body continue to stay awake. A small, gentle, monotone voice called to you. So small, you barely noticed. So gentle, it sealed the final nail in you falling into the deep depths of dreams.
"Goodnight, neighbor."

Since today is Levi Ackerman’s birthday, (and Christmas too I guess) here’s a festive little idea I’ve had stuck in my head :)

A bitter chill hung in the air throughout the halls, drafting in through HQ’s main doors opening and closing as people came and went as they pleased.
Wreaths hung outside office doors, and the occasional branch of mistletoe hung in various hall way arches in joking fashion. The hearth sat in the far corner of the mess hall had even been lit, warming those who stopped by’s hands from the winter chill.
Since it was the holiday weekend, Commander Erwin had called for a break through the next couple of days, just after training had ended earlier that same day around noon.
Everyone had been relieved for this time off to either return home to their families, or relax around HQ with minimal duties to entertain.
Yourself and several of the veterans in the Survey Corps had chosen to stay at base, keeping one another company in place of the families you either did not have, or had lost. But for some, neither scenario was the case.
Watching Captain Levi roam the nearly empty halls with his ever present blank expression, you soon understood he’d never had a family to lose, much less return to. So he had always opted to take vacation in the Survey Corps dorms.
Though, despite this bleak reality no doubt weighing on his conscience, his demeanor had considerably changed over the past week. Today especially had been exceptionally awkward around your boyfriend.
He’d made brief mention of his lack of family to you as you both grew closer over the months, and had officially began a relationship. You were both still new to romance, stumbling blindly over your ever growing emotions. Levi most especially. But regardless, this new chapter in your life, however new it was, had been a blessing you could have only hoped for.
With one last close inspection, you finished tidying up you recently neglected office and decided to search for Levi. After all, wasn’t it apart of your responsibility to check in with him when he wasn’t acting well?
After searching high and low for him, you hadn’t come across Levi anywhere he usually frequented on down time. You’d nearly decided to postpone your search, till a flicker of color caught your eye behind the mess hall’s windows.
Currently, Levi stood out among the training grounds, doing nothing more than observing his surroundings and watching the sky. Finding this behavior odd, as it was seldomly shown by the raven, you hesitantly left the hall and approached him, standing a respectable distance away.
“Levi,” You greeted softly.
“Y/N,” He curtly responded, his eyes never leaving the thick cover of clouds blocking out the sun. You searched his side profile for any indications as to what he might have felt, but you’d sooner see emotion shown on Wall Maria’s smooth surface before your fellow Captain’s.
Chewing at your lip and awkwardly shuffling your feet through the frost covered grass, you decided to broach the subject lightly.
“So…Are you hiding out here to avoid Hange again?”
Scoffing lightly, he shook his head.
“Partially. I just stepped out for some air. Needed to think, I guess.”
Frowning, your eyes left his face a moment as you realized what might have gotten him in a funk.
“You mentioned before, but never went into detail; you lost your mother around this time, right? Is that what’s going through your mind this week?”
You spoke softly and slowly, trying your hardest to ease into the topic carefully for his sake. Finally, he turned to fully face you, his steely eyes searching your face before he seemed to decide what he wanted to say.
“I did, yes. And you’re right, it has been. Never really cared for winter after she died, nor cared celebrating the one shitty day out of the year that makes me older.”
Slowly, you reached out for his fingers, finding them near freezing to the touch. He had to have been standing out here awhile, you thought, as you looked over his pink tinted ears and nose. Showing him a bittersweet smile, you began to gently rub some heat back into his hand with your own.
“Well, maybe think of it this way; your mother would be proud to see who you’ve become, and how hard you fought to escape the underground. She chose to love you for the time that she had, and she still does wherever she is. She’d be sad to see you freezing your ass off out here second guessing yourself.”
Whether it was the cold or the words you sincerely spoke, you couldn’t quite tell, but the light pink hue spreading across his cheeks was a color that you found suited him nicely. With a wider smile, you took his other hand into both of yours to repeat the process of warming them back up.
“And as for your birthday, well, I think your life is worth celebrating at the very least once a year. You’ve survived again and again, despite whatever odds you face each new year. And you’ve managed to put up with me more the past few weeks, so that’s a feat all in its own.”
To your surprise, a soft chuckle met the end of your speech. The corner of Levi’s lips were slightly upturned and the color in his cheeks had yet to fade.
Another first for you, was seeing the thin watery line cresting his eyes as he partially turned away, glancing one last time up at the sky before looking back at you and gripping your hands with both of his.
“Thanks, Y/N,” he all but whispered, swallowing back any more emotion from slipping out.
Shaking your head with a bemused grin, you squeezed his hands and daringly reached in to place a soft kiss on his cheek.
“Of course, I’m here for you. Always.”
With a gentle tug at his hands, you began to lead him away from the spot he hadn’t moved from in god knows how long.
“Now, let’s get you back inside. Maybe we could sit by the fire in the mess hall? Last I checked it wasn’t occupied, so we can have the space to ourselves for a bit.”
He merely nodded his head with an approving hum, holding on tighter to your hand as you led the way.
“Good, we’ll also grab some tea to cheer you up! And while we’re at it, we can talk about you at least letting me celebrate this birthday with you? Please?
Your eager prompting was met with the faint sound of him clicking his tongue in mock annoyance as he followed closely after you.
“I guess I can tolerate that. But no sappy bullshit, you hear? I don’t want this to be any kind of big deal.”
“So I cant tell Hange or Erwin?”
“You especially cannot tell them. I just…Want this to be between you and me.” Levi mumbled, avoiding the awestruck look you shot him over your shoulder, and the playful cooing that followed. Seeing his embarrassed scowl, you ceased your innocent teasing.
“Okay, okay, no sappy bullshit. But you never know, you might like it. Can’t say you don’t like something till you’ve tried it, you know?”
While you rambled on about how you would spoil him into enjoying a birthday for once, he listened in silence with a warm smile aimed at your back. Who knew, maybe he would enjoy this year’s celebrations after all, now that he had you to celebrate with.
As the two of you walked hand in hand back across the training field towards the base, snow startled to lazily float down from the heavens and fill the indents Levi’s shoes had set against the frosty grass only moment before as dusk fell over the land.
Perhaps it was nature’s way of accepting Levi finally leaving the baggage of his troubled thoughts in the past where they now belonged, you idly thought as you peered out from under the blanket you shared with your lover towards the window to watch the snowflakes fall some time later.
But here in this moment, resting your head on his shoulder by the fire with a warm mug of tea perched in your lap, you knew you’d always come to his aid if the snow didn’t brush the woes away.

His Love
|Aegon II Targaryen x Fem!Reader|
Part Fourteen
Master List of Series
Summary: Being a bastard born in the slums of Flea Bottom was all you were known for. Not the streak of white you had in your dark hair, the violet ring around your pupils, or how your sharp tongue and skills with the blade resembled your father, Daemon Targaryen. You were just a bastard, nothing more, but to him, to Aegon Targaryen, you were everything. You were his love.
Author's Note: I'm so sorry for the late update. Life has been pretty stressful these past three weeks, but not as bad as before. I finally finished all the required exams to become licensed in what I do, and now I have to wait for the results. I'll probably be starting a job in the coming months, so I might have to go back to uploading every two weeks like before. I'll keep y'all updated. Also, while researching, I realized this story has a cannon time frame. It's 127 AC to 129 AC, so everyone has a definite age. You're welcome. :)

"He was pointing at the moon, but I was looking at his hand." - Richard Silken, The Worm King's Lullaby.
It was two days before you woke. The stars were sparkling in an endless sea of the night sky, the waning moon reflecting a mirror image of itself over Blackwater Bay. You were surprised no one had come to wake you. It was rude for a guest to sleep the days away in someone's home, but you were exhausted.
So much had happened when you arrived at Kings Landing, resurfacing old memories you desperately pushed down. The pain was too great to sift through, tears heating your eyes whenever you thought of them. It was easier to ignore your hurt and squash it into a hardened cluster of untouched emotions, constantly pushing it deeper and deeper until it cracked from the pressure, exposing it raw.
You went to the great wardrobe on the other side of the guest chambers, wrapping a robe around your shoulders as you headed to the balcony. The small ship with your belongings arrived a few hours after you did, and everything was neatly organized into its designated place as if you had lived there your whole life. You supposed a part of you did, a piece never entirely leaving the haunting red rock walls.
There was a thickness in the air. The heavy humidity clung to your skin, making you feel sticky and damp, sweat accumulating in the warmer parts of your body even with your thin nightgown. Your room was on the upper levels of the palace, overlooking the never-ending labyrinth of sandstone and mudbrick houses. The ones closest to the Keep had tile roofing. Thoughtfully crafted peaks sloped down to let water drain on the rare occasion it rained, but the further you looked, the more you saw that foresight was lost. Straw and flat stones comprised the cupolas as timber support beams stuck out of the foundation, built for longevity and not fashion.
You were mainly awake now, although sleep still clung to your eyelids. A leaf had snuck its way onto the railing before you, a crispy tan color with holes in its body, a sign of the changing seasons. You watched it drag across the intricately crafted banister before being swept away as quickly as it landed. A strong breeze brushed your bare legs, feeling it weave through your long gown; you pulled your silken robe tighter.
Your limbs controlled themselves as you moved to your chamber doors, slowly opening them as you peeked out. As you suspected, the guard was slumped over, the hour of the owl upon him as you slipped out. You still recalled your time in the guest wing, traversing the long hallways to your intended destination.
The leaf reminded you of your brief moments spent at the Godswood. Your fleeting moments had you longing for a genuine opportunity to appreciate the acre of land it stretched on. You never had enough time to truly understand the beauty of it while you were here, caught up in the constant rotation of lessons and duties before your legitimization.
Elm, alder, and black cottonwood grew there, looking over the Blackwater Rush. Your old Septa Mariam had explained the history of a Godswood. You could remember her lecture as you sat in the lesson room, staring longingly out of the pane-glass windows.
When the First Men converted to faith in the Old Gods, after the Pact between the Children of The Forest, they created Godswoods. They were groves within their castles and villages where a single Weirwood, also known as a Heart Tree, would be planted so the Gods could be worshipped. Each tree was carved with a face, said to have been done by The Children during the dawn, centuries before the First Men. Before the treaty was made, while the war was waged between the Children of The Forest and the First Men, they cut down every Weirwood they found. They thought the greenseers of the Children, who could influence plant life and have prophetic dreams, could see through the faces.
The most severe oaths and vows are said before the Heart Trees, believing you are standing before the Old Gods when you do. To break a promise that was noted in the presence of the Gods was a means to a fate worse than death. Septa Mariam did not believe that to be true, going as far as to demonize the unpopular faith for believing in what she said were false idols. The dedication of the Seven was the only truth to her.
You didn't care or know much about religion before being found, only knowing the Seven as that was the most common belief and what the people of Kings Landing practiced. You didn't believe something so transcendent could reside in such a lecherous place, but when you stepped into the Godswood for the first time in years, the wind blowing through your ebony hair, you couldn't help but feel everything was true.
Even in the heart of a secular city, you could feel the Old Gods watching with their unseen eyes, hidden within the rocks and the trees, settled into the blades of grass and dirt under your shoes. Their stares did not frighten you. Strangely, within their watchful gaze, you felt comforted. It felt mystical, a blanket of infinity enveloping your flesh in something otherworldly. You were welcomed in a place full of people who did not want you.
You walked to the Weirwood tree that stood ghastly in the darkness. Its bark was as pale as bone, its leafs as red as the blood coursing through your veins. The slender white branches shook in the autumn wind, the crimson foliage floating onto the sod beneath it.
You traced the tips of your fingers delicately across the truck, feeling its rough texture as you placed your forehead upon it. It had only been a short period in which you resided at the Red Keep, but your mind felt like it had been an eternity. You longed for the smell of brimstone and salt, a sulfuric scent no one besides Aegon the Conqueror was thought to enjoy. That scent was home to you, a place full of family, where you had fond memories of love and belonging. Your heart ached to see them again even though you had barely left.
You wished to ruffle your digits in Luke's curly brown hair, grab Jace by the scruff of his neck, rub your knuckles on his scalp, and pinch Joffrey's cherubic face until he swatted your hands away with his much smaller ones. You yearned to see your kin again. The people here that called themselves were anything but.
Peace had finally set into your limbs as you sighed through your parted lips, the isolation sinking into nothingness. You lowered yourself to the damp ground as you nestled between two winding roots and peered through the gaps of leaves above you, looking into the vast amounts of stars that twinkled in the darkness.
You thought about nothing anymore, staring into the sky as you heard the faint scraping of shoes. Assuming it was just a servant or perhaps a guard, you ignored them, breathing deep into your chest. The clatter of metal against stone rang through the night, disturbing your harmony. Barely audible sounds of dissatisfied rumblings caused you to sit up with a scowl, squinting to see the disturbance.
Almost imperceptibly, you saw the silhouette of a man bent over as he gathered a pitcher off the ground. You knew without a second thought who it was, debating with yourself if you should lend a hand. He seemed well enough as he scooped it up, stumbling to gather his footing. You settled back into your spot, sighing as you nestled your head back onto a pale root.
Just as your body had begun to slip into a relaxed state, the same piercing metal sound happened again, and you opened one unamused eye, sighing.
"Having difficulty?" you questioned with a snark into the night, not moving.
"Fuck," you heard him mumble, a dull thud following.
At that, you finally moved, propping yourself up on your elbows as you glared at him with a hooded gaze.
"Aegon, must I fetch your Mother?" you taunted, a wicked grin burning your cheeks.
Aegon snapped his head from his place on the ground towards you, a surprised look on his face. He believed you were in his mind at first. The cups he had lost himself in filled his head with thoughts of your gentle touch, your lips brushing against the shell of his ear as you whispered his name. He now knew it was the Arbor Red talking.
"I..." He staggered upwards, brushing his palms on his trousers, recovering quickly, much to your chagrin, "am perfectly well, dear heart."
Your stomach flipped for a reason you did not know. You didn't like how he spoke, uncomfortable with what they made you feel. It reminded you of something Rhaenyra would say, an intimate person you longed to be with again, as your eyes looked anywhere but at the drunken prince.
"You certainly appear so," you commented sarcastically, leaning more weight onto your elbows as you sighed. "Why are you awake, my Prince?" He did not indicate if he had heard you, only gazing into the vast acre of the Godswood.
Despite your voice's calm, almost emotionless tone, the flesh of your bottom lip found its way between your teeth as you sat up, pressing your knees to your chest and resting your chin on them. A short silence fell as Aegon gathered his bearings, stumbling over to you as you pulled your legs closer.
He stopped beside your slippered feet, staring at the shaking leaves above, some falling onto the soft grass as a cool breeze swept through the grounds. You couldn't understand why your toes curled at his presence, your hands suddenly sticky and uncomfortable and griping the hem of your nightgown. You wondered if he could sense it, your whole body tensing as he grew bored of the leaves and plopped next to you. You hoped he was too drunk to notice.
You swallowed thickly, the sound loud and audible as you picked at the blades of grass. Aegon didn't hear the loud clicking in your throat, focused on flipping the metal pitcher upside down as the last few drops of Arbor Red dripped onto his pink tongue. Unlike you, he seemed comfortable in the silence, quietly humming to himself as he wiped the excess drink with the back of his hand.
The guilt from how you treated Aegon when you found him crept up your spine, stinging your ears as your face burned at the memory. He was kind to you, albeit obstinate at times, but nothing terrible. He defended you before his mother, the Queen Consort of the Seven Kingdoms! On the other hand, you had spat such vile insults—words he did not deserve within such a vulnerable state. You regretted them deeply, but your pride refused to admit it aloud, your mouth opening and closing with slight intakes of breath as you fought to apologize.
"Why did you not return my letters?" Aegon abruptly asked, distracting you from your inner turmoil.
"I did not receive any."
And that was the truth. No raven from the Red Keep was ever directly for you until Queen Alicent. They were all intended for your mother, father, and the few Lords that spent their time at Dragonstone.
"Do not think me a fool," he spat without warning. "I sent you a letter every moon for a year, and even then, when you did not respond, I sent one to my half-sister, begging her for you to write to me." You stared at him bewildered, your mouth slightly agape as your heart sank. "I just..." he began, cutting himself off as his mouth became wet, "I only wanted to know if you were well. After everything that happened all those years ago, I would expect one to feel a need for comfort and companionship."
Aegon had no intention of belittling you; he only wanted to show you the compassion which you had been neglected of. Your instinct was to deny any need for sympathy, feeling offended that he thought you could not handle yourself, but you realized that was not the truth. The bitterness you harbored for his mother and grandfather had muddled together into a mess of resentment and rage for all who surrounded them, even those who had no part in it.
The moonlight reflected in his glassy eyes as you touched his cheek. You had never realized how pink and plump his lips were until they trembled in the silver lighting.
"I swear to you, Aegon, on the Seven, upon my late mother's grave, that I had no knowledge of the letters you sent me." You had to bite your tongue not to add that even if you did, you wouldn't have written to him anyways. The blinders of anger kept you from reason back then.
You saw how his face fell from the contorted pain your supposed rejection gave him to one of sad relief. "I must extend my apologies then," he said, attempting to move his cheek from your hold. You did not let him, leaning closer to him as you brought the other one to keep him in place.
"No, Aegon. It is I who must apologize." He stared at you in confusion, his light brown eyebrows furrowing together. Rubbing your thumb over the creases between them came naturally to you. You had done it with your brothers when they were upset, tracing over the lines and structure to calm them.
"Despite my lack of patience and disregard for you, you have continually shown your heart bare, and I..." you paused, willing your voice not to crack, "cannot thank you enough. You have only showered me with kindness and hospitality since I have stepped foot in Kings Landing. Even when I did not deserve it, you defended my honor so valiantly it would put my brothers to shame." You smiled, picturing Jace and Luke's faces as if they had heard the Queen call you a bastard. "Although I must admit my confusion surrounding your ravens. I never received any word from you, and I cannot fathom who would bar them from me."
You did have some ideas of who it was and why they did it, but it still upset you, even if you would have burned the letters anyway.
The tension in Aegon's brow loosened at the delicate swipes of your thumbs, shutting his bloodshot eyes in appreciation. He still looked the same boy you left for Dragonstone, though the dark circles on his porcelain skin were more prominent, and his hair was shorter. You watched him tuck his lower lip in his mouth, still quaking. You couldn't stop the way your hands slid back down his face, cupping his jaw in your palms as you tugged his wet lip from between the confines of his teeth, the dry pad of your finger sticking to the soft skin.
He opened his eyes at the movement, his violet irises nearly black to focus in the darkness. You gave a small smile, not fully stretching your face as you dropped your hands, finding his clenching the loose fabric of his trousers; his knuckles blanched as you took them in your own. You inhaled sharply to speak but thought better of it as you shuffled closer to Aegon, the fine hairs on your arm tickling his.
***
You weren't sure when you had fallen asleep within the Godswood, the birds chirping as the morning sun rose above the trees. Your back ached as you attempted to stretch your body, only to find the silver-haired head of a prince on your lap. You didn't remember inviting him to rest there, but you didn't wake him, his pouty lips slightly parted as he softly snored.
Aegon looked so sweet like this, like an innocent child who had yet to discover the atrocities of the world. Your fingers itched to run through his hair, to scrap his scalp until he purred into your touch. This was wrong, and you knew it, having the notoriously hedonistic prince lying like a babe on your plush thighs. You wondered what your father would do if he caught you.
The most obvious answer was that he would be furious, most likely at Aegon, and pull him by the short locks attached to his head and onto the ground. Deamon would spit pure venom from his lips, a fit of anger you had only ever seen him display once before, and then he would turn to you. He wouldn't say anything. He wouldn't need to. You could see everything he wanted to convey in his eyes. There would be a mix of frustration, confusion, and disappointment. You would explain what had happened and try to convince him his wrath was directed at the wrong person.
Aegon was just a byproduct of the people he hated, the green bitch and her cunt of a father, Daemon called them. You would explain that Aegon had no desire to rule nor the capability, even though he had not said that himself. Your father would argue that no man will turn away the opportunity to be the most powerful being in all the realm. Once Aegon understood he could have everything he desired, there would be no refusal. Would a man lost in the desert refuse a drink of water simply because it was not from the springs?
You would agree with your father. He was right, after all. He was always right. Daemon knew of the darkest wants everyone had. He could read people and bait them to reveal whatever he wanted them to. You admired him for that. It was a trait you hoped to possess eventually. You realized then that you needed to find something Aegon would covet more than unlimited power. You had to make him crave something more intoxicating.
A lump formed in your throat as you gazed down at the sleeping prince who had not stirred during your dissociation. You knew that only one thing could sway him from saying yes to the crown, and your eyes burned with tears at the thought.
You inhaled a shuttering breath, willing the water not to spill as you brought a shaking hand to Aegon's frizzy hair, running your fingers on his scalp.
"It is time to wake up, my Prince," you leaned into his ear, gently whispering. "The sun has risen, and there is much to do."
Aegon still refused to open his eyes. He groaned, rolling onto his side and shoving his face below your navel. You grinned, quietly laughing as you lifted his chin to meet your gaze.
The angle you moved him to caused his neck strain, a bright blue vein popping on his milky skin. You could almost see it throbbing as the flesh thinned. Your finger found its way to it, tracing the turquoise line that expanded from his jaw to his clavicle to where it joined the rest of his body. You caught his twinkling lilac eyes in your brown ones, the vessels within them no longer prominent as he blinked sleep away. Aegon sat up, shifting his body weight onto his palm as your finger stopped its movements on the stained undershirt he wore.
He said nothing as he moved to his knees, his free hand cupping the underside of your jaw in the juncture between his thumb and index. His touch was not quite as tender as yours was, squeezing the area tightly, almost as if he was afraid you would turn away. You felt your heart rate quicken, your lungs suddenly telling you to fill them with more air as his thumb stroked your chin, extending to expose the raw flesh from your nervous habit.
You didn't register that Aegon had moved, his face closer than what you would deem appropriate, as your lips quivered.
"You are shaking, little one," he stated, the gravel of his tired voice rumbling in your chest.
"I am?" you breathed, your body feeling powerless.
You wanted to be strong, as you were taught to be. Yank your face out of his grasp and dust off your dress as you left, but you couldn't. He made you weak. One look at his angelic face and your limbs were putty. Your eyes began to heat with tears again, your stomach fluttering with unfelt emotions.
"Princess," a man called from the entrance to the castle.
You jerked away faster than you thought possible, wobbling to your feet, lightheaded. It was only because you stood so quickly, nothing else.
"My Lady," one of the Cargyll twins stood, bowing his head stiffy as you approached him. "I was altered by her Grace Queen Alicent that there is to be a Council meeting at high noon. She wishes for you to attend."
"Thank you, Ser Erryk." A self-satisfied smirk curved your lips as you spoke, partially because you knew what Alicent had to do for you to be invited and the other because you had guessed to twin correctly based on how his blue eyes widened at the correct name. "If you have time, alter my maids that I wished to have a bath drawn. The air here is not what I am accustomed to."
"Why does Mother want her at a Council meeting Erryk," Aegon questioned too late, you already walking underneath the stone covering of the Keep.
You bristled at the informal way he addressed the knight, raising your eyebrows as you turned to watch the pair.
Ser Erryk was stiffer than you when you had spoken to Ser Criston Cole a few nights prior, tensing as Aegon came closer. "I am not certain of the reason, my Prince. It is not my place to question the Queen's decisions."
Aegon scoffed, stuffing his loose shirt into his pants to seem somewhat put together. He turned to you, his face asking if you wanted to spend hours deliberating with a bunch of stuffy, rich old Lords and his mother.
You made no protest like he had expected you would, remembering how much you disliked the small meetings you had to attend for your legitimization. He frowned deeply, childishly stomping as he sat on a wooden bench against a pale red rock wall.
"Do not sulk, Prince Aegon. It is unbecoming. I would hate for you to be in such a sour mood when we meet again." Your face and voice were stoic, but there was a light behind your eyes, only one that Aegon could see.
He crossed his arms, flipping his hair out of his vision as he continued to pout, though you swore you saw a hint of his smile ghost his lips as he turned away.
***
Once your maids of the Keep had brushed and washed your tangled hair, smoothing lavender and clary sage oils into the long strands and on your skin, they put the black tresses into a braided style similar to the one Visenya wore. It was simple yet regal, and when paired with the deep crimson of your dress, a golden three-headed dragon curling around the expanse of your breasts and wide neckline, it was sure to conjure the image you wanted—a fierce Targaryen princess born and bred of fire and blood.
The Small Council had to respect you in the sense of your rank, bowing and calling you a lady of the realm, but that was all pointless, nothing but supercilious words inside the Chamber. Lords would not adhere to the opinions of a woman, no matter if she was queen or not, and with Rhaenyra residing in her self-imposed isolation for the past years, neglecting her courtly duties, it only made things more arduous.
Your father had mentioned Grandsire appointing him to the Small Council in times past, but the positions always bored him. He felt the call to act while the other members sat and only wanted to debate. The world was moving faster than the Lords could discuss, and with how lawless Kings Landing was at the time, Daemon knew only action would fix it. He had created the Gold Cloaks, and after the night of bloodshed and savagery you had heard about when young, he was never allowed a chair again.
A guard had come for you when you were ready, leading you to the Council Chambers.
The doors were already open, and a few men sat discussing amongst themselves. You recognized one, heart-stopping and body freezing, his image forever seared into your memory. Ser Otto Hightower had greyed some, his hair was still the same wiry brown, curly beard brushed neatly as allowed, and hair slicked back with oil. The bronze hand pin poked proudly through his lapel's embroidered deep green fabric.
You felt your lungs shrink, refusing to let you inhale. Your chest began to hurt, your mouth becoming thick and your jaw quivering as you stood in the doorway, your presence so unimportant as not to go announced.
You couldn't think. You couldn't breathe. You couldn't move. All you could do was stare at the man who sentenced your loved ones to death. He shoved their heads on spikes and placed them on the battlements of the Red Keep for all to gawk and ogle. A punishment that was only served to those who betrayed the crown.
Everything seemed to move slower, your eyes focusing and unfocusing on the Lords surrounding the table. One laughed, a man with golden hair lifting his head back lightly to bellow one out. Another sniffled, wiping his nostril with his forefinger and running a hand through his thick beard before continuing his conversation with the nearly dying man beside him.
You were terrified, a fawn left alone in the woods, helpless to watch as a pack of wolves feasting on its mother's corpse. Your instinct was to run from the danger, run as far and as fast as your legs could carry you until all you could see was the top of the Tower of the Hand. You wanted your mother. You wanted your father. You wanted your brothers... You wanted your family. Why couldn't they be here with you? It was high time Rhaenyra took her place as the heir and ran the kingdom instead of the Hand, but she wasn't. She wouldn't. She felt her place was with her family on Dragonstone, eating candied lemon cakes and fish as she taught Jace High Valyrian, uncaring of her future simply because some Houses swore allegiance to her.
Daemon was wise to send you here without telling her. If he had, you were sure she would have attempted to impose her self-ideology and keep you on the volcanic island while Otto Hightower and his daughter continued to run the Seven Kingdoms in their vision.
"Her Grace, Queen Alicent of House Hightower."
Ser Harold Westerling's voice caused you to jump in fright, moving nearly three paces away from the door just in time for Alicent to make her entrance, her hands clasped together.
The Council members all stood from their chairs in respect for her title, but they couldn't help but wander away from the Green Queen and onto the Black Princess, dressed in rich Targaryen red and adorned with golden jewels. You caught the gaze of the black-bearded man, averting your eyes as you bowed to Queen Alicent. She only regarded you with a frown, like you were a frayed string on the seams of her emerald gowns.
She walked further into the Chamber, her back like an iron rod, as she sat at the farthest end of the table. The one meant for the King or the Hand, not the Queen. Her place conveyed a message to the entire room without words, and you made a small expression of disgust as you understood the meaning.
How many doubts for Rhaenyra's claim were planted by Alicent Hightower and not her father?
You finally comprehended how much you had underestimated her sway in the line of succession. You had thought Alicent still had some honor and sense of duty to do what was right, remembering how she could not stand Ser Otto's decision regarding Lyra and Sara. You were wrong. She was just as wicked and conniving as her father, a product of his greed and lust for power. The slight warmth you regarded for Alicent was gone.
During your displeased state of being, you realized that you had not taken the empty seat across from her at the other end of the table. The Lords stared at you, expecting you not to be told what to do as it was apparent. You brushed off their looks as you rolled your shoulders, straightening your posture and taking your place in the oversized wooden chair. A ball was already in its designed hole, reflecting a deep obsidian color as Queen Alicent began to speak.
"I am sure, my Lords, you are all curious about the presence of a new member," she paused, perched on the edge of her wooden seat as she placed her hands on the table. "Upon the orders of Princess Rhaenyra," Alicent lied as you narrowed your eyes at her, "she has sent her daughter as a ward to sit in her stead as the heir." The men all stared at her with wide eyes but kept their mouths shut, knowing it was not their place to question the child of the King.
She nodded to you, signaling she was finished with her short introduction and was allowing you to speak. You flashed a smile at the shocked looks of the grown men, and they all stiffened, a bolt of fear running through them as they saw Daemon sitting before them.
"My mother does send her sincerest regards for neglecting her duty for so long. As many of you know, she has been with child consistently these past years and has felt it unsafe to travel for her and a babe. Most of you sitting here are fathers yourself and I am certain you can understand how tumultuous childbirth can be." You placed your hands on your womb, looking down at the mahogany table with a slightly sad but wistful look, pretending to swallow tears back as you discreetly glanced up to see their reactions.
You had to hold back a snort as they all shared solemn looks, no doubt remembering how the former Queen had lost her life. All men were the same when it came to it, hypocrites and easy to fool with a few sighs and batting of lashes.
"As her Grace mentioned, I am here in her place, and the Princess expects you to extend the same treatment as you would to the heir of the Iron Throne. She has entrusted me with upholding her opinions and desires on matters of the realm." You raised your head, the sorrowful look you had passed now gone as you met each pair of eyes surrounding you. "And I intend to uphold them with unwavering devotion."
Leaning back in your seat, you signaled that you were finished with the introduction, resting your fingers on the shiny obsidian ball before you, but you were not done with your words.
"I realize that it has been some time since our King has set foot in these chambers," you traced the cool orb with your digits. "I, regretfully, have only heard on parchment of his health and wish to be informed of his most recent state."
It felt like all the men could do was stare at you, unable to form coherent thoughts with the upheaval in the order of things. The hand was the first to speak, unsurprisingly.
"The King is well and sends his regards for being unable to attend today. His health has continued steady progress." You kept your eyes down, waiting for the lies to ensue. "Now, I wish to speak on the matters we discussed yesterday of the outdated infrastructure of the Royal Sept. The benches are-"
A scoff left your mouth before you could catch it, interrupting Lord Hightower. "The well-being of the King is not as important as remodeling a sept?" You asked rhetorically, looking at Otto incredulously. "Are you serious?"
"Princess," he spoke to you condescendingly, as if you were a fool, "if you wish to inquire about the King's health, I suggest you visit him yourself. We have matters to discuss that you are unaware of due to your sudden attendance."
Otto had practically just told you to silence yourself in much more elegant words. You could barely contain the rage that shook your bones at his rudeness, wanting to jump across the table and strangle him until he turned blue. Instead, you clenched your jaw, settling him with a stare that would kill.
"The King's health is a matter of continued discussion. Should he not be here today? Sitting across from me with his golden crown? Our utmost desire should be to bring King Viserys back to his former self. I believe that takes precedent over the benches in the Royal Sept."
"Your Grace," the frail man spoke, his voice shaking from use during his decades of life. "I am Grand Maester Mellos. I see to the Kings in matters of his health." You nodded to him, waiting for him to continue, his words slow. "I can say with certainty that our King only proceeds to regain more strength and vigor that he had only possessed in his youth." You saw Alicent shift her hands into her lap, focusing on them instead of the old man. "You need not trouble yourself with handled matters."
"Good," you replied with a polite smile, quickly replacing your irritated demeanor as you looked over to Ser Otto. "I will be sure to see him attending the meetings soon, then."
Alicent twitched, her lips tightly pursing as she inhaled deeply. You relaxed lazily in your seat, the wood creaking as you become comfortable in her discomfort. Her anxiety only solidified your conclusion as you saw her pick her nails. They were lying.
You were silent the rest of the two hours the boring lords spoke. Your father's opinion was correct about the dullness of things. It was all frivolous discussion about updating the castle and Sept, replacing the "out dated" tapestries with more modern ones to showcase the future and wealth of House Targaryen. No action. Just talk. You knew that now more than ever, you were needed. If not for the sake of your family's claim, then for the sake of the realm.

Part I
A/N: So here's the second chapter of Bodyguard. I'm excited to see where this goes, bc honestly right now I don't have everything planned out, I'm just going with the flow. Let me know what you think :)
Y/N pushed her glasses further up on the bridge of her nose, sighing as she attempted to get more comfortable in the chair she'd deemed her work-from-home space. She was pouring through the files that had been sent from her office, signing off on some of the easier cases - shots, medicines, things of the like. She had secured a fill-in veterinary student - the very top of his class - to administer the injections while she healed.
Her fingers were tapping over the keys of the laptop, her eyes never leaving the screen. She was very aware of the presence on the sofa before her, cerulean eyes scanning over her as she worked. She glanced up over the top of her screen, meeting his eyes.
"You know you don't have to stare at me the whole time," Y/N spoke, deciding the silence had gone on long enough. "I don't think I'm going to disappear if you find something else to do."
John shook his head, his hands clasped over his stomach as he sat. "Just doing my job, Miss."
Y/N suppressed a shiver, distaste for the pleasantry. "Don't call me miss, it makes me feel old."
John cocked a brow at her. "You're not old."
"I know," she replied. "But the next thing I know you'll be trying to start with ma'am. Just call me Y/N. Or Bunny."
"Okay," John relented easily. "Just doing my job, Bunny."
Y/N smiled, happy with her win. "Thank you."
They sat in silence for most of the day, the distinct sound of keys being pressed filling the room. John had finally decided to turn something on the television, a more than welcome background noise for them both. He had turned on a soccer match, something that the veterinarian had no idea about, and was thoroughly absorbed.
A deep, irritated groan filled the room and Bunny's head shot up, not expecting the sound that barreled from him. He was sitting straight up, his eyes zeroed in on the screen. "Fuckin' muppet."
"What is it?" she asked, confused by the sudden change. She glanced over at the television, trying to figure out what had happened, but it was just a bunch of players crowded around, pushing and pulling at each other. "Did someone get hurt?"
John shook his head with a sigh. "No, just a stupid call."
"Wow, you're a dedicated fan, huh?" Bunny asks, her brow furrowed. "I didn't take you for a soccer guy."
"I'm not a fan of soccer," John almost glares at her, his eyes flashing. "It's football."
"Not in America," she bites back a laugh. "Maybe across the pond."
John sighs and mumbles. "Where everything makes a little more sense."
A little while later, after the game had finished, a loud grumble came from Y/N's stomach. Her eyes widened and she looked up at John, placing her hand over the offending noise. Her cheeks burned at just how loud it had been - she hadn't realized that she'd gone all day without so much as a bite of food.
"Hungry?" John's lips curled beneath his mustache.
Y/N nodded. "Let me just get a few more cases out of the way and then I'll eat."
"Not happening," John said, authority coloring his words. "I'm here to keep you safe, can't do that if you fall over from starvation."
Y/N rolled her eyes. "I won't starve from not eating for a few hours. I've gone longer than that at work."
"Not with me," John informs her. "Your aunt is trusting me with your care. I don't take that lightly."
"Fine," she grumbled. She saved her work and closed the screen on her laptop, placing the device on the table beside her. She braced herself for the task of getting out of her seat, dread coursing through her veins as she realized it wasn't going to be easy. Her body was aching and, although not completely broken, one of her ribs had been fractured.
"Damn it," she hissed through her teeth as she raised to her full height. Tears flooded her eyes but she blinked them back, the pain slowly subsiding as she stood there. "I swear I'm not a wuss."
"Never said you were," he said, his lips pressed into a tight line. "You okay now?"
"Yeah," she told him. "It just... takes me a minute."
Slowly, she made her way into the kitchen of her apartment. She rifled through her freezer, trying to find the easiest meal she could, and grinned when she found a frozen pizza stashed in the back. She pulled it out, carefully, so as not to upset her rib more. She busied herself preheating the oven and finding her pizza pan, but the more she stood and moved the more the nagging pain in her side intensified. She was all but huffing when John came to check on her.
"Damn it, woman," he tutted behind her, a gentle hand on her lower back trying to guide her back to the living room. "Go sit down, I can make a blood pizza."
Y/N turned her neck to glare at him. "I'm perfectly capable of making it."
"More than," he agreed, his gruff voice right in her ear. "But you need to sit down and rest. Get back to normal as quickly as possible, yeah?"
The woman frowned, knowing he was right, but not wanting to admit it. She felt a twinge of defiance toward him. "If I go sit am I still allowed to work?"
John's stare was blank and he was unamused. "No. You've done enough work today. Isn't your office closed by now, anyway?"
She glanced at the clock on the stove - it was five o'clock, and her office was indeed closed. She pursed her lips but said nothing.
"Go sit down," he all but commanded her. "I'll chuck the pizza in and bring you an icepack."
"Fine," she sighed, stopping by her medicine cabinet and grabbing a bottle of ibuprofen. "Just so you know, I don't like to lose an argument," she told him.
"Neither does Kate," he told her with a grin, "but she also knows when she's wrong. Now go sit."
If she was able she would've stomped her way back to the living room, but the pain prevented her from doing so. She decided to sit on the couch, which was better for watching TV than the chair, and grabbed a pillow, pressing it against her chest to help with the ache. It wasn't long before John came into the room, an icepack in hand. He held it out to her, almost as if it were a peace offering.
"Don't put it directly on your skin," he advised her softly. "Do you have something to take your meds with?"
She shook her head no, reaching out to take the icepack. "Thank you."
"Just-"
"doing your job," she finished for him, looking up at him from her seated spot on the sofa. "It's almost like I've heard that somewhere before..."
"Cheeky," John noted as he crossed his arms over his wide chest, a grin tugging at the corners of his lips. "I'll be back with the pizza."
A few minutes later he strolled into the room, two plates in hand. He had cut the pizza - for a military-trained man a little haphazardly - and threw two pieces on each of their plates. He sat hers onto her lap, making sure she had a hold on it before releasing his grip. "What would you like to drink?"
"A water is fine," she said quietly, a feeling of shame settled deep in her bones. She hated being coddled. John turned to retrieve their beverages when she spoke up. "Could you bring the ranch dressing, too?"
John stopped, his back stiff. He turned his neck to see her, a barely contained look of disgust on his face. "Ranch dressing?"
"You know what ranch is, I'm sure," she said, puzzled by his reaction to her request.
He nodded, turning to face her fully. "Of course I do," he said, "but eating it on pizza?"
Y/N tapped her finger on the side of her plate. "Uh, yeah? What about it?"
"It's a crime," he told her seriously. "A crime against food."
A laugh bubbled from her lips, pain exploding through her torso. She gasped and pressed the pillow tighter against her, "Ow, ow..."
John watched her silently, his hands coming out to steady her. "You alright?"
She nodded. "I'm okay."
"All this over some dressing," he mumbled, his hands still on her upper arms.
Y/N glanced up at him through her lashes, the pain slowly ebbing. "You have no idea what you're missing."
"Fuckin' Americans," he mumbled under his breath, but still loud enough for her to hear, and then straightened his back and disappeared into the kitchen. They ate in silence, watching reruns on the television as they shared their first meal together. John grimaced a bit when she dipped her pizza in the white dressing and took a large bite of it. She chewed it with the beginning of a smile, noticing him watching her eat.
"Don't judge me," she said around her bite of food. "It's so good."
John shook his head. "I'll take your word for it."
"Try it," she encouraged him, holding her plate out to him to dip his slice. "It'll change your life."
He pulled his plate away from her, protecting his food from hers. "I'm good, thanks."
"C'mon," she pressured. "One bite and I'll shut up."
He shook his head. "I've gone my whole life without having it, I think I'll pass."
"A life without ranch," she mused. "What a sad existence."
He shook his head and went back to watching the television as she continued to happily eat her ranch-covered pizza. Once they had finished and John had taken the plates to the sink they simply sat and relaxed. Y/N was curled against one side of the sofa while John sat on the opposite side, his legs spread wide. It was comfortable, Y/N realized, having someone here with her. She didn't think she'd warm up to him this quickly, but she saw what her aunt liked about the Captain.
"So how long have you known Aunt Kate?" Y/N asked suddenly, her curiosity taking over. "She's never really said a lot about you."
John looked over at her, studying her question. "A long time."
"Wow," she said sarcastically, "such an enlightening answer."
John sighed and looked to be thinking about whether he should tell her or not. "It's been over ten years, at least."
"Ten years," Y/N repeated. She was quiet for a beat and then asked, "So how old are you?"
"Old enough," he answered simply. "Why does it make any difference?"
"Because I want to know," she said, tampering down the urge to throw something at him. "Do you ever give a straight answer?"
John smirked and shrugged. "When the situation calls for it."
"That's really annoying," Y/N pointed out. "That's fine, I'll just guess, then. I like guessing games." She hummed as she thought, looking over him. He had flecks of gray at his temples, but his face gave nothing away. "I'm going to say that...you aren't forty yet?"
"That isn't a guess," he chuckled, "that's another question."
"Don't be like that," she groaned. "I'll tell you my age if you tell me yours."
"I already know your age," he told her simply. "Your aunt told me the basics before I came."
"Fine," she huffed, rolling her eyes at him. "Be boring."
John fought back a smile, but he softened under her agitated gaze. "I'm not yet forty."
Y/N gave him a blinding grin, her eyes crinkling. "See, now that wasn't so hard was it?"
An amused hum left him, and he shook his head. "No, but it's so fun to watch you get angry."
She opened her mouth to retort, but a shrill ring from her cellphone cut her off. She dug it out of her pocket as gently as she could and looked at the screen. "It's Aunt Kate."
Before answering the video call she straightened her hair and wiped her mouth, making sure she'd gotten all remnants of pizza off her face.
"Hey Kate," she greeted, fighting the urge to flinch as she saw the bruising on her face.
"Bunny," Kate replied, seated in her office. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm feeling better," Y/N smiled softly, touched by her aunt's concern. "I managed to squeeze in a little work today."
"Don't overdo it, you're supposed to be resting," Kate warned her seriously. "Is everything going okay with John?"
John eyed the phone at the mention of his name. "Everything's fine, Laswell."
"Good to hear," Kate replied. "I'm glad everything is going smoothly."
Y/N took a deep breath, not wanting to ask but needing an answer at the same time. "Have you found out anything about the men who attacked me?"
"Not yet," Kate told her. "Just give me time, Bunny. I will find them."
Y/N's heart beat rapidly, she felt it in every nerve in her body. She swallowed down her anxiety and gave her aunt a small, forced smile. "I know you will."
"I'll call you back when I get more news," Kate assured her. "Get some rest, okay?"
Y/N promised and disconnected the call. She stared at her phone, her mind racing - she had made a conscious effort not to think about the violence that had been inflicted on her just a day prior, trying to push it from her mind completely. She didn't want to live in fear, and while it hadn't been easy she'd managed.
Work and the man beside her had kept her thoughts busy, but now...
"What's going on in that head of yours, eh?" John asked her, genuinely curious. "You haven't been this quiet all evening."
She sighed, picking at her cuticles. "Just thinking."
"Vague answer," he replied.
She looked at him through the corner of her eye. "Like you have any room to talk."
"Touche," John smiled at her. "Really, what are you thinking?"
"I just hope we get them," she admitted quietly. "I don't like feeling vulnerable. Scared in my own home, scared to go to work."
"That's why I'm here," John said, his eyes softening. "I won't let them hurt you, not again."

9 Months Since Rescue
“If you sit still it won’t hurt as much,” You chided the teen who had come to you to have a laceration stitched up. The story he had told you was that he was helping his friend with repairs to a market stall in town… but the gaggle of friends he’d brought with him told you otherwise. There were two girls in the group who appeared to be worried out of their minds yet gushing about how strong the teen was. The kid had probably tried showing off and hurt himself in the process. You’d seen a fair amount of it in your travels as a nurse and seamstress, and half of your clients end up being youth.
Of course you were still starting out in your job, you hadn’t even been on your own for a year… but the satisfaction of freedom was serendipitous. You had learned so much in your short time of travels that while you were still naive to most of the world, your thirst for the seas was never satisfied or hindered. Finishing your stitches on the teen, you wrapped it up in a few layers of gauze.
“You’re done, don’t touch or mess with it for a day,” You informed the teen who held his injured arm against his chest. “And if you want to impress a girl, don’t do stupid shit that’ll get you injured.” His face flushed and he was about to mouth off to you when you stopped him. “Girl’s that age like flowers and thoughtful gifts, don’t be a dumbass and land yourself back in my services, okay?”
He held his tongue with a grumble and dropped payment onto the table next you with a grunt before vacating his seat. Smiling as he returned to his friends, you watched the teen disappear from the doctors office.
“Ah youth, the’ve been getting more reckless as the generations go by,” The doctor you’d spent the last three months working for, complained. You pocketed the money the teen had left and chuckled.
“Doctor, they’re kids, let them enjoy themselves while they can.” You told the old coot, packing up your stitching supplies for the final time. You had signed on for a temporary stay with the doctor on Pufferfish Island while you explored the culture of this town, and with that time up, you were leaving port the next morning.
“Damn kids’ll never learn about life if they just keep gooffin off!” He continued to complain as you double checked that you had collected everything that you owned.
“Life isn’t all about working you know,” You told the doctor. “Does it not get boring only thinking about money?”
“What else am I supposed to do then? Hmm?” Looking at the doctors back, you pursed your lips and shook your head. Berries. Far too many people focused only on Berries rather than living life. It was a pity, really, because ever since you had left Esmereld Cove you had nothing but joy in traveling and exploration. You dropped your eyes to the floor and rubbed your cheek.
“Live your life the way you want to then,” You murmured before shouldering your bag. “I’m off for a final time, don’t forget to lock up the medicine cabinet. The last time you forgot the neighbors got into it.” More grumbles from the doctor and you shrugged. Oh well, you’d warned him and no longer worked with him so it was no longer your concern.
Walking down the path that led to the inner port harbor, you hummed to yourself and made the decision to have one least meal at the tavern before you headed out for your next island. You passed several houses of villagers that you had tended to and even waved hello to a few children running around. You’d miss their jubilant faces and wide smiles, but you were sure to see more on the next island.
Cresting a hill to the cobbled path leading to the busier port harbor, you stopped short when your gaze caught sight of a new ship docked. You stopped short and let out an exaggerated sigh.
“Ah, the tavern is going to be busy, isn’t it…” You complained to yourself. “Oh well, even pirates have to eat.” You continued towards the port harbor, running your hand over the hair you had pulled back. It’d grown out from short and choppy, but was only just long enough to be tamed by string. It was still very short but at least you blended in now.
Getting closer to the tavern, you could hear the villagers grumbling about pirates. They weren’t fond of them, but had no quarrels as long as they respected the island. Turning down a curvy lane, you walked swiftly with dinner on the mind. You’d skipped lunch after a bunch of school kids had gotten into a scuffle over lunch games. Unfortunately, tear filled eyes doomed your lunch and you had spent it patching up busted elbows and knees. You were a bit of a sucker at times.
You made it to the entrance of the tavern, and weaved through several men loitering around with drinks in their hand. They were the regulars, so they didn’t bother you as you passed, but one did step forwards.
“Head’s up doc,” You looked to the man that spoke. “Pirates are in, they’ve been kicking up a fuss.”
“I’m just in for a last meal,” You said, pausing in step and eyeing the tavern. “I’ll mind myself, just make sure you all don’t get yourselves into conditions I have to treat, I have a boat to catch in the morning.” Hat’s dipped and you entered the tavern with a hand raised over your shoulder. The tavern was crowded with villagers and pirates alike, but you spotted a place you could sit for dinner and began heading there.
While you weaved and were jostled around by bodies, a drunkard lurched into you sending you almost flying. A small gasp departed your lips as you fell to the side. But rather than spectacularly meet the floor of the tavern, an arm caught your back and swung you back to your feet. You tottered in place, settled by the arm and blinked at the rather bare chest of the person who had saved you from sprawling flat on your face.
“That would have been embarrassing,” You murmured to yourself before looking up. Your eyes were met with yellow ringed eyes. You couldn’t help but blurt out your first thought. “You have beautiful eyes.” Both you and the man blinked at each other. “Apologies for stumbling into you,” With that you detached yourself and slipped back into the mess of the tavern crowd, food on your mind.
You found a place to sit at the bar top near the windows showing the port harbor and sat down. While you waited for the server to come over, your mind lingered on the eyes of the man that had caught you from falling to the floor. He really did have beautiful eyes. They were also unusual, much like your own. While you were thinking of yellow eyes, a server came over to you.
You ordered the tavern special, as it would be the last time you ate it, and leaned back in your seat to relax and think. You had a ship to catch in the morning, but at the same time, you really wanted to enjoy your last night on the island. There were still a few bars you were interested in checking out based on local recommendations. You’d been too busy with work to try them out at the time but now? Now you were free. But you also didn’t want to have one hell of a hangover to deal with while shipping out. Alcohol and open sea did not mix well.
But the wine…
“Here ya go, doc,” The server announced placing your meal in front of you. “Enjoy.”
“Not actually a doctor,” You called after them, making them chuckle at your words. With a smile on your lips, you picked up your fork and began eating. You enjoyed your meal, watched as ships pulled into the port harbor for the night, and all around ignored the pirates yapping on about their accomplishment. When your empty plate was cleared and you paid for your dinner, you took up discussing wine choices with one of the servers.
You really hadn’t ever developed a taste for alcohol other than wine. That was one win Mel could have. You didn’t mind because that was something you did have experience in. It was nice that you could discuss a topic that you weren’t entirely clueless about. Not to say that you lacked education, it was just there was a big difference between book smart and sea smart, and you were endeavoring to become sea smart.
The server of course had to get back to work so you took to watching the last bits of the sun fading from the sea line. Or at least, you were watching the sunset when a stool scraping on the tavern floor alerted you to someone taking a seat next to you. Even from just the corner of your eye you could tell, it was one of the pirates.
“What is a pretty little thing like you doing all alone in a tavern like this?” You blinked and turned your head to look at the pirate.
“Getting… dinner…?” You replied in question tilting your head to the side while arching an eyebrow. “As for my solitude, it is by choice. I don’t dine with others.”
“That’s a pity,” He replied, reaching over and touching the hair ornament you had tucked into your small ponytail. You wanted to snap at him to not touch you, but your manners won out and you remained silent on the topic.
“A pity? For who exactly?” You said shortly, your eyelashes fluttering while you raised your chin in observation. “Certainly not me as I am enjoying the view. For you then? How so, there are plenty of woman in this tavern and around the village for company.”
“I don’t want their company,” The pirate continued, his touch abandoning your hair and reaching for your face. You leaned out of reach with an unamused look on your face. “I want yours, you have such pretty eyes.”
“Well I do not, please seek what you desire elsewhere.” Your calm response betrayed none of your true thoughts. “But if you require a more formal answer; no.”
“Do you know who I am?” He asked in a hard voice, narrowing his gaze at you. You blinked and answered bluntly.
“No?”
“I am Andrew of the Marked Branch pirates!” A few patrons around you winced at his thundering words.
“That doesn’t change the fact that I have absolutely no idea who you are.” He slammed his hand on the bar top next to you, eyes bulging and simmering in rage. He opened his mouth and threats poured from his lips, but you, once again, had no idea what he was talking about and just blinked at him with a raised eyebrow.
“You don’t seem to understand the situation your in, little girl,” He hissed at you. Your face was passive as you grabbed your hair ornament and slammed it directly into the hand he had pressed against the bar top. A high pitched scream erupted from his mouth and the entire tavern fell silent.
“It appears that you seem to have trouble understand the word no,” You calmly stated, surprised at how deep the hidden blade in the hair ornament had gone. You weren’t the strongest of woman and yet it had suck into the wood of the bar top. “I said no, leave it at that. Yes?”
Eyes that had once been bulging and simmering with rage… were now filled with fear and pain. The pirate whimpered, caught between wanting to yank his hand away and leaving it be. Your knife really was lodged good and deep.
“I am not a woman who likes repeating herself. Have I made myself clear?”
“Okay okay! Just take it out! Take it out!” He howled at you. Pleased that he had acknowledged your wishes, you went to take the knife out, only to find it difficult. You tugged on it a little harder and the pirate howled. Sighing, you used both hands to sharply yank on the hilt of the knife, it took several sharp tugs before you actually managed to get it out. Once the blade was clear of wood and flesh, the pirate staggered back and ran off, tail tucked firmly between his legs.
Chatter slowly returned to the tavern and you used a nearby napkin to wipe the blood from your hair ornament. You weren’t going to let that pirate ruin your evening, but you had to admit that your mood was soured by that interaction. Just as you were cleaning the last bits of blood from your blade, a voice called out from behind you.
“Well that was unexpected but it certainly made my night more interesting.” You were once again blinking, but this time it was at the man with the beautiful yellow eyes. He was looking at you with amusement dancing within his eyes and the curve at the corner of his mouth echoed what his eyes told.
“I do not appreciate pushy men who do not listen,” You stated simply, wiping your knife one last time before returning it to your hair. “I came here to enjoy a meal, not be harassed.”
“Clearly, yet you look like you’ll be blown over by a mere gust of wind.” Your eyes flashed with fire at his words and you nearly growled.
“I will not,” You answered hotly, your words only seemed to amuse the man further and he waved down a server with but a finger wave.
“You are a fiery little one, aren’t you.” He said as he leaned against the bar top. You glared at him for making such obvious fun of you and huffed indignantly as he spoke to the server that came over. Two wine glasses were pulled out and placed between you, then a bottle of wine.
“Two glasses?” You broached, eyebrow arched.
“You went to the trouble of taking out the trash,” He explained, pushing one of the glasses towards you. “You also seemed to be a woman of refinement?”
A glass of wine was a glass of wine. You grabbed the stem and brought the wine to your nose to sniff. You were instantly surprised. Most patrons bought out the classics and regular wines on the menu, this was one of the more refined brands. A brand that you partook in while living on Esmereld Cove. You had only the best there.
“And you the same,” You echoed before taking a sip of the wine and sighing in satisfaction.
“Now then, what is a lovely lady with such tastes, doing on an island like this.” You set your glass down and ran a finger around the rim.
“I’m a traveler,” You started, turning your eyes to the ocean in front of you. “I travel for work as a nurse and seamstress so I can experience the world. I grew up exceedingly sheltered so now I am trying to visit as many islands as I can to learn about what it means to live.”
“To live,” He repeated. That was such a… simple desire and yet you were being entirely truthful. You nodded thoughtfully before your brow scrunched.
“Speaking of which I never caught your name,” You mused, cocking your head to the side.
“Mihawk,” Mihawk answered you, waiting for a reaction for surely you had heard of him. You studied him for a moment, your face remaining unchanged.
“Mihawk,” You repeated thoughtfully. You hadn’t heard that name before, but then again you were still fairly new in your explorations. “Hmm, it’s nice to meet you Mihawk, I am Vee.”
Oh now you were starting to get really interesting.
Mihawk chuckled and took a sip of his wine, amused that you didn’t even know who he was. It was rather refreshing.
“Vee,” He echoed, observing you closer. You had black hair simply pulled back, a frame that was too skinny in his opinion, and violet eyes he’d only seen a few other times. Violet eyes that he’d never seen in the East Blue before. He had little interest in woman at his current age, but the way you stared at him before complimenting his eyes and then moving on had been the most peculiar thing to happen in twenty years.
“Yes,” You said, picking up your wine glass once more. “Now, you don’t exactly seem like the type interested in life stories so I won’t bore you with it.”
“But we were just getting to the interesting part,” Mihawk drew out, getting comfortable where he leaned and interested in broaching for more. You lightheartedly chuckled and raised an eyebrow.
“You don’t want to hear my life story,” Mihawk’s lips twitched.
“Oh but I do,” Staring up into Mihawk’s yellow eyes, you contemplated his words for a few moments before shrugging. What’s the worst that could happen?

Cyclamen
I've decided to make this a short story with maybe 3 chapters. I finished the first one:
“Oh hush, you.”
“Stranger tales have been woven.”
“What can a no-good fool know about such things,” the woman hmphed, “To speak of them.”
“I may be a fool, but I’m no less wiser,” the man winked. His eyes were riddled with cataracts, but they sparkled. The children huddled close by; their little heads eagerly tilted with the promise of a story.
“Papa, please tell us,” One of them begged, her little hands pulling insistently at the old man’s knee. “Please!”
“You’ve done it now,” his wife turned back to her knitting needles.
“Well, it’s as they say. Once, long ago, on a winter night just like this one, old man Everdeen heard it.”
“What did he hear?” one of the youngsters gasped.
“Three knocks,” he whispered and slowly, so slowly, brought a fist aloft.
“One,” he struck his knuckles against the arm of his chair.
“Two,” the children’s eyes followed his every movement.
“Three.”
The howling winds were ferocious that night. They screamed and scratched against the walls, rattling the window shutters, and pushing up against the door. The cold was like no other. The cruelest winter in three generations. With it, hunger and illness stole in, unwelcome guests to every household, perfumed with the stench of death.
The house was small, a cottage of just one room. There was a fire, a table for eating, two beds, and nothing else. That was all there was, in those days. All there could be.
Old Man Everdeen had a wife and two children. Two lovely daughters, one fair and golden and one bronze and ebony. He loved them, dearly. They were all he had. He would have done anything, sacrificed anything, his health, his life, his sanity, but that was not what the bear wanted from him.
Old Man Everdeen had a daughter made of iron. She took care of him and their family without complaint. Every day, without fail since the mineshaft took his legs. It troubled him, to be so useless, to be cumbersome. But his daughter, his lovely daughter, she was as radiant as the sun.
That evening, desperation was their guest. The cupboards were bare, and the coal would run out. The wind kept screaming, screeching, all around, as they huddled close to the fire. Waiting. For death? For an unknown guest?
And then it came.
The knocks were heavy. Final. They sucked the air out of the room and hushed the blizzard. He ceased breathing.  Even the mice paused. It came once, twice, three times.
Knock, knock, knock.
“Papa,” his youngest daughter whispered. “Who’s there?”
“Everdeen,” the voice spoke inside his mind. “Everdeen. We must all pay our debts.”
His iron daughter stood.
“No!” he reached out, but she was a step too far. “Katniss!”
“They might need our help,” she replied earnestly. Innocently. Kindly.  He would have stood if he could. “I’ll be alright, Papa.”
“Everdeen,” the voice spoke to him again.
His daughter’s feet whispered against the floorboards. She never made a sound. His little lynx. She was his little hunter, his little Katniss bloom. She already had twenty summers, but to him, she’d always be his toothy girl, bobbing in the river, all sharp knees, and elbows, shouting Papa! Papa! Look what I can do!
The door creaked open, but only slightly, to keep the cold air out. His daughter gasped and scrambled backwards, tripping over a chair. She fell hard on the ground, but that was the least of their concerns. The door swung open as flurries of snow blanketed the wooden floor. His wife cried out at his side and his other daughter screamed. But he didn’t make a sound. Somehow, he had known. He’d always known things would end like this.
The white bear took one step and then another into the house. It stared at him, unblinking, with eyes the color of the northern sea. Yes, he’d known, how could he have forgotten? We must all pay our debts.
“You are a poor man, Everdeen.” The bear spoke to him alone. “What have you for me?”
“Nothing,” he whispered in reply, to his wife’s bewilderment.
“Spruce?” she asked, staring at him as he remained calm before the bear. She stood, shaking, but with their youngest hidden behind her. “What’s the meaning of this?”
“Ah!” His eldest daughter screamed, rushing up behind the bear with one of their hunting knives above her head. It was reckless and desperate, but just like her to try and protect him once more.
“Stop!” he exclaimed, and she did. She stood wild-eyed and panting, the knife still brandished in her hands. “It means no harm.”
The bear turned its large head and gazed down at his daughter. She stared back defiantly but she was afraid. And how couldn’t she be? With a bear in their home and a debt to pay?
“I have nothing.” He insisted once more. “No gold, no riches, not even bread to break. Oh, Great Northern Bear, have mercy on my family, and take me alone.”
“What?” His wife shouted just as his eldest daughter gasped.
“You are an honest man.” The bear spoke again without moving its jaws. It remained speaking to him exclusively. “But my master demands fair payment all the same.”
“I understand,” he nodded and closed his eyes. “Please, Great Bear if you must strike me down, allow my family the peace of ignorance. Do not take me here.”
“Your life is not payment enough, Everdeen.”  The bears’ words rocked him to his core. “You must give me your greatest treasure. From your two daughters, chose one, so I might take her with me.”
“Never,” he declared. “Strike me down where I stand, but never, not my daughters.”
“Papa!” His youngest exclaimed.
“You are a poor man, Everdeen.” The bear repeated. “Give me your eldest daughter and I will bathe you in riches. Your wife and child will have enough to eat for the rest of your days. But you must give me the eldest Everdeen, and never see her again, so your debt will be repaid.”
He choked on a sob, “No.” He insisted. “Take me and wipe my old debt clean and never darken my door again.”
The bear made a growling noise and turned its great head once more. His daughter gasped and he knew, it spoke to her alone.
“Katniss,” he begged. “Don’t.”
His daughter took her time straightening her spine and putting down her knife. She fixed her hair. She glanced at the bear once and strode up to her mother.
“I love you,” she whispered and embraced her once, doing the same to her sister a moment after.
“Katniss,” his voice turned desperate. “Please.”
She came up to him last. He was sequestered to the sofa unless someone else moved him first. She embraced him and his sobs escaped. His daughter was made of iron, and he knew nothing would bend her.
“Goodbye, Papa.” She whispered, squeezing his shoulders. “I love you.”
“Katniss!” He cried after her, his voice bouncing off against the walls long after she was gone.

You look better in black (p2)
A/N:i will be doing these almost each chapter, today i’ll be short with my note READ THESE i’m not joking cuz i’ll be putting warnings/trigger warnings as author notes and feel free to dm me or just leave ideas in the comments
Tumblr media
you didn’t know if you wanted to cry or not, you probably couldn’t if you wanted to.
“it’s not so bad…” Helaena started as she brushed your hair, if anyone else had told you that you would’ve smacked them, you always had a soft spot for your sister she was the only one who saw you as a person, Ameond saw you as a toy simply something to walk around with, but Helaena was different.
“He seems really nice…nicer than Aegon” she says, sometimes you wish you could trade spots with her, not because you liked Aegon he could die right in front of you and you wouldn’t care, but because she was nice, a nice person while you were far from that one could even say you were a sociopath, people around court would call you that, never in your face though.
“i guess you’re right, Jace is much better than Ageon or some old lord that only wants to bring his families name up by using me.” you jokingly say.
you both chat for a while until the topic of what you’re going to wear for dinner is brought up.
“Are you gonna wear something black, blue, or green.”Helaena softly ask.
“I’ll wear black, it’s not a big deal anyways it’s fathers house color and ours. our last name is Targaryen not Hightower.” you said loudly picking up some earrings from your jewelry box.
☆━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☆
you both hear a knock on your door pausing for a second you finally speak loud enough for them to hear “Come in.”
Jace slowly open’s the door and steps in.
“What are you doing here, we’re not supposed to be alone together, not until we wed.” you say completely forgetting Helaena is here.
“But we’re not alone, Helaena is here so we’re fine.” he playfully say’s while looking at your dress.
“Okay what brings you here my prince.” you say in a sarcastic voice hoping he’d get to the point and just leave.
“Oh yeah right uhm since we’re betrothed I thought it would be nice to give you this necklace, i didn’t pick it out though it was my mothers idea.” he rambles on looking everywhere but you now
you playfully roll your eyes and tell him “ what happened to all that confidence just a second ago, don’t be a baby and put it on me, come on jacey” he perks up when he hears you use the old nickname you gave him when you were younger.
You can feel his heart and his breath as he slowly puts the necklace on you, his hand touching your soft skin, he leans in and looks into the mirror. “Has anyone told you that you look better in black?”
You turn around and look at him for a few seconds slowly leaning in until Helaena  interrupts the both of you “Sister it’s time to go, jace it’s best you go before us so no one suspects anything.”
he clears his throat “Alright.”
☆━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☆
Aemond see’s you and Helaena walking towards the dining hall “What the fuck are you wearing.” he say’s in a pissed tone while grabbing your arm
“Helaena go on ahead it seems like our brother doesn’t know how to respect his elder sister.” you state in a very passive aggressive tone.
he scoffs “i’m warning you wearing that won’t make mother happy” he says
“i’m fully aware of that and i’m soon to marry jace and as his future wife it’s my job to support him and if that means I support his mother’s claim to the throne, HER BIRTH RIGHT then so be it, now get your hands off me you’re gonna ruin the dress.” you say
“You sound so-“ Aemond says but you stop him right before he could finish what he was gonna say.
“If you haven’t noticed I don’t really care what you think, i’ve always been by your side supporting you, so for this one moment support me.”
☆━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☆
little did he know this conversation would be the last conversation you’d have with him as brother and sister, as friends.
As you walked into the dining hall all eyes were on you, Rhaenyra giving you an amused smile, while your mother looked at you with shock and confusion.
You walked right past Aemond and sat right next to jace smiling at him.
"Let us toast as well Prince Lucerys... future Lord of the Tides."
"You do know how the act is done, I assume? At least in principle? Where to put your cock and all that?" Aegon murmured to Jace, you couldn’t help but scoff at his comment while drinking your wine.
"You can play the jester if you wish, but hold your tongue before my betrothed." Jacaerys ordered sharply, Aegon humming simply, jace turns to you and smiles a little bit
“your quite stupid you know, he only wants a rise out of you, you of all people knew that by know” you say bitterly
jace could never understand you, sometimes you were kind to him and other times you were cold, but as he thought about it more he came to the conclusion it had to do with him hurting your brother.
Painfully and gradually, Viserys rose to his feet, exhaling heavily on the spot and leaning against the table. "Both of them make my heart happy and it fills me with sorrow to see these faces around the table. The faces dearest to me in the whole world...but who have grown so distant from each other in recent years." you could only wonder why as you listened
Viserys's hand latched onto his mask, beginning to strip him of his decaying flesh, and as it slipped from his complexion, he revealed a very unsettling sight. Half of his face had literally melted away, including his eye, revealing the inside of his own skull. "My own face... is no longer pretty... if it ever was. But tonight... I want you to see me... just as I am. Not just a king... but your father." , your brother, your husband, and your grandsire. Who doesn't seem to be walking among you much longer? He confessed. "Let's not hold bad feelings in our hearts anymore. The crown cannot stand strong if the House of the Dragon remains divided. But put aside your complaints. If not for the sake of the crown... then for the sake of this old man who loves you all so well."
he fell back into his seat, and as she did, Rhaenyra rose from herself. "I wish to raise my glass to Her Grace, the Queen." She announced it. "I love my father. But I must admit that no one has remained... more loyal than his dear wife. She has served him with... unswerving devotion, love, and honor. And for that, she has my gratitude. And my apologies." she added, sitting down again.
"Your graciousness moves me deeply, Princess. We are both mothers... and we love our children. We have more in common than we sometimes allow. I raise my cup to you and to your house. You will make a fine queen."
Aemond raised his glass to Aegon, giving him an intriguing smile that he evidently understood, sipping his drink and moving slightly toward Baela to take the jug of wine from her side. "I regret the disappointment you will soon suffer dear sister ." He whispered to you. "But if you ever want to know what it's like to be well satisfied, all you have to do is ask."
before you could even respond Jace slammed his hands against the table, rising to his feet as Aegon casually passed him. "A toast to disappointment." Aemond raised a toast to Aegon, who agreed and smiled heartily, following his gestures to which Jace sent a glare of death.
Only Aemond rose to his feet, looking at Jace with a look of disgust, a warning that his next actions be taken seriously. Gingerly, Jace patted Aegon on the back whose eyes never left yours. "To Prince Ageon and Prince Aemond. We haven't seen each other in years, but I have fond memories of our shared youth. And as men, I hope we are still friends and allies. To you and your family's good health, dear uncles."
"To you as well." Aegon voiced plainly, Aemond slowly descending back to his seat, you couldn’t help but laugh at his silly comment while smiling at jace.
“I never knew you could be so petty jace, or should i call you lord husband.” you said while smiling at him
“lord husband doesn’t sound too bad my lady wife.” he jokes making sure everyone in the table heard your conversation.
"I would like to toast Baela and my sister." Helaena abruptly stood to her feet. "They'll be married soon. It isn't so bad. Mostly he just ignores you and flirts with your sister…except sometimes when he's drunk." Daemon chuckled loudly to which you simply chugged down your drink in embarrassment.
☆━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☆
eventually it came time to dance(i recommend you play die for you by the weeknd for the dancing part) jace got up and held his hand out to you
“My lady, would you do the honors of dancing with me?” he said while blushing.
“of course” you said softly
the two of you danced to many songs while talking about future plans
“This might sound crazy but y/n…i would die for you” he states
“i’ll be honest I don’t really want to be queen but you’re making it worthwhile.” you said in a serious tone
“But if it’s with you then I guess it’s worth trying” you whispered into his ear
“only if you let me name all of our children” you half joke
“yeah? how many do you want” he jokes back
“As many as you want.” you say while playing with his hair
“I want 7.” he states in a half serious tone
“You’re crazy, my gods.” you say while laughing.
The loud noise of Aemond's fist hitting the table brought both jace and you out of your own world. Strapping himself onto the wine glass, he stood up, lifting it into the air. "Final toast". He announced it. "To the health of my nephews. Jace...Luke...and Joffrey. Each one of them is handsome, wise..." He paused, staring at the boys in front of him, an intense, deafening silence between them all. , looking at Aemond with anticipation. You knew his plans, You knew him like the back of your hand….unfortunately. And he was proven right. "strong".
"Aemond." Alicent warned, causing Aegon to chuckle, rising to his feet beside Aemond.
"I dare you say that again." Jace warned
"Why? 'Twas only a compliment." Aemond commented, strolling forth in Jace's path "Do you not think yourself strong?" Jace landed a weak punch on Aemond's jaw, and even so, it was as though he could not feel it, the pain, standing perfectly still.
“you’re unbelievable” you yelled causing everyone to stop
“you couldn’t wait at least ONE DAY, the kings dying wish was for us to be a family and i truly thought we could be one family until 10 minutes when i noticed that you’re all just a bunch of fucking hypocrites” you say grabbing Helaena and storming out.

chapter 1
masterlist
--------------------------------------
7:30 am
15th of November
ring ring ring
Rolling over on the couch you reach over to grab your phone. Shutting off your alarm you place your arm over eyes to shield your eyes from the bright sunlight. After a few mins you finally get up and walk down the short hallway to the bathroom. After using the bathroom and brushing your teeth you head to your son's room to wake him up. The room was covered in in MSBY merch. He was wearing a sakusa 15 jersey to bed and it left a smile on your face thinking about the tickets you bought him for his birthday. He had olive hair and (your eye color). He didn't talk much, but when it came to volleyball he couldn't stop talking. It hurt knowing that you prevented him from playing but you did it for his own good. You didn't want him to neglect others because "volleyball came first".
"Isa baby it's time to get up," you said as you walked in to his room. The young boy groaned as you opened the blinds for his window. You grabbed his glasses off his night stand and put them on his face as he yawned. "happy birthday honey. I have a present for you let me go get it." For 10 years now you and Isamu have been alone but content with each other. After highschool you moved away to Tokyo soon after you found out you were pregnant. You couldn't let the father stay he was just gonna be focusing on Volleyball anyway. That's all he did your whole relationship, he even told you. Volleyball comes first then you, i'm sorry. He wasn't sorry. No one even tried to reach out to you after you left, but it's fine you gave birth to the sweetest boy and today he was 10.
Walking back into the room you see he was sitting on his bed waiting for you to come back. Everyday he looked more and more like Ushijima. The stoic face watched you walk in with a small box in your hands. Sitting on his bed you you gently place the box in his lap. Most people wouldn't be able to tell that his emotions changed. He doesn't move his eyebrows much nor his mouth, but you could see his eyes light up at the small gift. You had been saving up to get him a nice gift this year. He slowly took the lid off the present a moved the tissue paper to get inside. He pulled out two white tickets that had said "MSBY Black Jackals VS Schweiden Adlers" for the first time in a long time you saw your son truly happy. Not faking it to make you feel better but truly excited. He started hopping in place on his bed at the tickets.
"thank you mama," he had said as he leaned over to hug you. His happiness suddenly stopped and he looked up at you with worry on your face. "mama these must have been expensive," after he said this you shushed him because you knew exactly where this was going. He was a very smart child, and as amazing as that is it sucks because he's more aware of his surroundings. There was no doubt that sometimes you struggled to make ends meet. Working two jobs, having a son, and you were finished college. I mean you sleep on the couch for God's sake.
"don't worry about that. Everything is okay, and I wanna treat you! Now go get ready the game starts at two"
------------------------
12:00pm
You hadn't known much about the two volleyball teams playing. Only knowing the players your son talked about. Those being Miya Atsumu and Sakusa Kiyoomi. You remember Sakusa from high-school, and you loved flexing that on your son. Ushijima and Sakusa had been aquatiences in highschool, but you've only ever talked to the curly haired man once. You were getting giddy just thinking about seeing your son's face when he got to get his jersey hand signed by the wing spiker.
You wanted Isamu to enjoy his childhood. He already had to go through a lot. Even though he didn't know who his father was he was very much aware that the man was not in his life. Anytime he brought him up your face would contort not wanting to talk about the man. You would keep who his father was a secret till you were ready, and that definitely wasn't right now. Plus, it was a mistake and Ushijima didn't know. Ushijima took your virginity on his 19th birthday, and it was perfect, but he went back to his volleyball self the moment the two of you woke up the next morning. He was leaving when you woke up, and just said bye and kissed your cheek. When you asked were he was going he said he had practice. No he didn't actually. You guys had graduated and there was no more Shiratorizawa team for him, but he would continue to practice everyday. Never taking a break. Huh, screw him for getting you pregnant after your first time. What are the odds.
"mom are you okay," snapping back into reality you realized the water was still running and you've barely gotten through the dishes. Fuck the water bill is gonna be high.
"yeah yeah im fine, are you ready?" You said beginning to get back to the dishes.
"yeah, i'm really excited because not only is it MSBY but the Adlers too. I can't wait to shove it in Aki's face at school on monday. He loves Ushijima so much," He started chuckling at his evil plan.
"wait Ushijima?" You asked. Please dont be your Ushijima. Please don't your Ushijima. Please, please, please.
"Yeah Ushijima Wakatoshi. He's so cool. If i didn't like Sakusa so much he would be my number 1... mom are you listening?" You felt you breathing start to pick up. It's to late to back out now. You were 29 for god's sake you can face him, but your anxiety wouldn't leave. Not wanted to worry your son on his birthday you tried to hide you anxiety.
"yeah, I just- I think I went to school with him," Isa's face lit up at that.
"really!! Can you introduce me," His smile was wide when he said that. It was rare to see his smile that big, normally just opting for a small smile without showing his teeth...just like his dad.
"maybe yeah, if he remembers me," oh he definitely does. "can you start the car for me while grab my stuff," you hand him the keys trying stop you hand from shaking as hard as it was.

Retro wave
Synopsis: Every individual has something that they are missing or lacking in their lives, whether it be a person, a purpose, or something else entirely.
Will they be able to fill those gaps and find satisfaction or a purpose, or will they be left perpetually incomplete?
And what better way to describe this journey and character development than in a fan fiction? Where they embrace life to its fullest, make mistakes and grow while hiding their true flawed tint, that lost it's meaning long ago.
Will she finally achieve her childhood dream of becoming an artist? Using their smudged and sketchy colors to paint on the canvas of her life, or will she settle for more sophisticated one's?
Will the painting in the end be enough to engrave the memories passed together?
Warnings: Swearing, explicit profanities, illegal doings, VERY LONG.
Notes: This is the full version of my story on wattpad ‘Retro wave’ until now there are only five chapters if we count the prologue too, I only want to get some feedback and attention for all the work i put in it and for the readers to enjoy it as this isn’t your usual insert self story.
The background of the character is already decided and specific although the appearance is not, so you can perfectly put yourself in it without reading Y/N or anything annoying like that.
Tumblr media
New topic, tattoos.
Often seen by those stiff elders with a closed mindset as something bad, permanent and idiotic.
How about I give you my perspective of it?
Tattoos aren't just stupid impulsive mistakes that last forever, they are one of the best ways someone can ever express themselves with; Words are useless to describe someone compared to the feeling of your fresh virgin skin being inked, making whatever part of your body a masterpiece. Flamboyantly taking away the virginity of your flesh.
Am I romanticizing it too much? Probably, but honestly who cares when you're being paid to do what you love?
After my last customer headed out, I took a deep breath and walked into the foyer of the shop which I personally customized, from the soft lighting to the comfortable furniture.
As I sat on the couch, spreading my limbs to then relax them, breathing in and out slowly, closing my eyes, focusing on the deep dark of my mind as existential thoughts started to flow into my brain.
Out of all I focused on one only.
Am I even making a difference?
This day surely has worn me out as it brought me to thinking about something so distant when I'm still young and beautiful.
Why bother thinking about legacy? I'm here now making most of the present moment, my future isn't written yet so screw legacy. I'll deal with that later after I've had my fill of fun and adventure, so don't talk to me about it.
I'm too busy living the dream, your dream.
It's reassuring to know that in my chaotic existence I'm not living under a bridge and have a place to call home.
But even chaos is born from something or someone; And I was born from my immigrant parents in Italy, just to be sent to my home country.
What a way to start life huh?
Only a couple months old and my parents already had enough of me, sending me to my grandparents with the excuse of learning their and now apparently my mother tongue.
Jokes aside, they loved me from the bottom of their hearts.
Four years later I came back to finish the remaining two of kindergarten and finally start primary school.
But oh boy, from there my life has been a downhill roller coaster of emotions. As childhood optimism had brain washed my mind into thinking it was going to be a wonderful experience.
Not realizing that from the very first day of school I was thrown into the cage of lions.
For the first, second and third year they weren't nothing but buzzing noises in the background, as I felt drained from being in that class.
As now I was in fourth grade, and already tired of everyone there but him.
Now you might wonder who this kind soul is?
Simple, my first love.
Brown wavy locks that gently swayed every time he tilted his head, capturing my gaze with those dark brown eyes.
With that little beauty mark under his right eye, that everytime he offered me one of his sweet smiles would make my heart melt.
But the thought of seeing him every day made me push through all of that.
I could relate to thinking it was simply him and I against the world. But there's more to the story. Love is blind, as they say, and we sometimes need time to accept it, one way or another.
Certainly being served the fact that he likes another girl in our class, wasn't the best.
I felt as if the world crashed onto me.
But maybe the other girl didn't feel the same? Maybe all of this was one sided love like most of the time between kids, I could just go and ask her if she feels the same.
Simple as that.
I was relieved to find out she didn't feel the same, my burdens lightened; Not realizing that by doing this little thing to relieve myself I broke his trust.
Making him the new target of mockery in our class, as that girl couldn't keep her mouth shut.
The classroom isolated me too, labeling me as the snitch, well deserved I guess?
But what hurt me the most was him slowly distancing himself from me, it was a gradual process. Yet the most painful for me, and heartbreaking for my parents to watch their daughter suffer from it.
After finishing my fourth year, I was transferred to a different school, one where I was welcomed with open arms. Spending my last year of elementary school there, forming good friendships as I grew more confident with each day.
I learnt the fine art of blending in while also standing out in society. Once I completed my fifth year in elementary school, I started my middle school journey, confidently prepared for whatever came my way.
However, fate had other plans.
I ended up being way too overconfident, and it bit me in the butt.
The universe had a way of humbling me and remembering me nothing lasts forever, each and every time you start from zero with the help of your past experiences.
So now you ask me how would I describe those three years of middle school?
Hell.
This time I was fortunate enough to have a loyal friend who was alongside me, Anastassia.
Together we helped each other and formed a lasting bond that would only become stronger as time went on.
She was one of those friends that even you meet again after a long time, I'm talking about months and years. It felt like time stood still with her.
Anastassia made the time fly by before you knew it, and with her by my side, I felt a timeless sense of comfort and peace. Whether we spoke of distant memories or made new ones together, it was as if we had never been apart.
After we finished middle school we had to part ways, she chose to focus on studying languages while I wanted to study art.
High school offered a much-needed fresh breath of air. There people seemed too occupied with their own personal struggles to bother with my actions, which brought back my laid back confidence that mixed with the release of dopamine.
I no longer felt restricted by the confines of social expectations or the constant judgment of others, instead focused on exploring who I was, and what I wanted from life in a less constrained and more meaningful way.
In less words I stopped caring about what others thought.
This newfound sense of freedom allowed me to truly come into my own, and shaped me into who I am today.
From studying there I also got to meet two wonderful girls that today moved and live with me in San Francisco.
First I came across Lara whose light brown shoulder length locks were highlighted with buttery blond highlights. Her eyes were surrounded by thin metal square frames, which perfectly empathized their beautiful vivid hue of maroon.
Lara's aura was like a magnet for those around her, drawing people like moths to a flame. Drawing the attention of boys who lusted for her and girls who envied her, leading to gossip and telling vicious rumors about her. Yet these attempts of destruction failed, as she continued to radiate joy and positivity.
Truly looking up to her for it, wondering what her secret was.
And so, the truth was unveiled.
One day, I found her smoking cigarettes in the school bathrooms, and the habit gradually became something I expected to find her doing from then on.
I had no intention of dictating her choices.
However, I still held hope that she would make a conscious effort to stop the unhealthy coping mechanism of smoking.
But despite her habit remaining the same until this day, many things about Lara have changed over the years.
Her hair for example, her once buttery blonde locks now styled in a choppy cut, with a side-fringe and even a bold red dye job to top it off.
These changes have altered her previously bubbly image, giving her a more mature and confident flair, though it's hard to say if that is simply the result of growing up.
Her charming and bubbly personality remains as captivating as ever, and she has not lost any of the charms and magnetic personality that constantly goes in contrast with Lia's one.
The living room everyday was an area of contention, Lara's smoking habit often irritated Lia through the smell that easily flowed through the apartment, as the confined space made it difficult to avoid breathing the smoke.
Arguments between them would always end in Lara sulking in the corner, while Lia walked away fuming from anger.
I don’t blame for her intolerance towards smoking.
She was an open-minded person, but when it came to smoking, she had zero tolerance. So, it's only natural that she would be upset whenever she caught Lara smoking inside.
Anger issues weren't the only trait that characterized her.
No, not at all.
As those curls of hers kept her craziness in check, but it somewhat from time to time it managed to escape from those lips of hers, making her say the most mean and absurd statements sound true and convincing.
If her lips were mean, then her eyes shall be the sweet ones. Green and hazel hues coloured those irises, as they held such beautiful mystery and charm.
And yet they also held a glimpse of her fiery anger and held up frustration, which sometimes exploded out, turning her captivating eyes into fireflies that burned through my soul.
A mix of raw emotion and magnetic influence made her memorable and endearing, as her presence was one that was hard to forget.
Lia truly was a girl of many colors and contradictions.
Although the two women have brought their fair share of excitement and adventure into my life, there's always room for more.
If the gods offer more and more delicious fruits on the branches of life, it would be a shame not to indulge in a little more of what makes it sweet and delicious, wouldn't it?
After all, life is made interesting by new experiences and challenges we encounter, and who are we to deny more enjoyment?
Not knowing I've jinxed for good my future, for thinking like that.
As the sound of the phone alerted me about a new message.
Unfortunately not notifying me about the consequences it will bring to my unsure future.
The number was unknown, but as I read the message and realized it was from Lara, I let out a sigh as I shook my head.
I was used to her borrowing other people's phones to send me messages or call me when her iPhone died, but I still felt a slight sense of annoyance.
Constantly reminding her to change it into maybe one of some other brand, whose battery didn't die immediately after being charged.
Fuck the aesthetic. Even an eighty year old could last longer in bed than those phone batteries.
With a groan, I rose to my feet, taking the keys of the shop out of my pocket as I slid one sleeve than the other of my cardigan.
I held onto my phone in one hand while the shop keys were in the other, as I exited the door.
After the store was properly locked up, I set my sights on the parking lot where I had left my 2006 BMW M3. Talking about it, it was probably the best deal I had scored in my entire life.
Quickening my pace while searching for my keys as I neared the parking lot, making my way over to the red sports car that stood out among the other vehicles, looking like a beast ready to devour the roads with its raw power and beauty.
After finding them, I unlocked the car and sat in the driver's seat, ready to drive away.
Starting the engine as now the powerful roars could be heard, feeling the humid air come in through the slightly open window, breathing the fresh yet familiar scent of the night.
With everything set, I put the car in drive and started making my way to the exit of the parking lot.
Speeding through the freeway, with wind coming through the window making the end strands of my hair fly back as adrenaline pumped into my veins.
But it soon came to an abrupt halt as I found myself stopped at a red light.
Letting out a frustrated sigh, traffic rules were sure pesky; Still I had to follow them, while I waited for the annoying red light to become green.
As the smooth, soothing tunes of "House of balloons" by the Weekend filled my car, my mind was at ease and my soul at peace.
Enjoying myself before the storm, commonly known as Lara, could enter my car.
Talking about the devil, there she was on the other side of the road talking with someone.
A man to be precise.
They still continued conversating, as I focused on the new individual.
His shaggy butter blonde strands swept to the side and his imposing lion tattoo were hard to miss, as they commanded attention.
Shifting my gaze at the now green light, I stepped on the gas pedal and proceeded toward the roundabout, making a sharp turn as I went back to them.
Parking my car just a few feet away from them as I yawned, hitting the horn two times to let her know I was there.
With a jolt, Lara turned to my direction to then say something to her companion earning a chuckle from him, while she motioned for me to come over.
Weird, she usually doesn't involve me with her flyings—What was she trying to pull here?
Frustrated from the long day of work I just compiled with her request, exiting my car and shutting the door behind me as I approached her and the man.
I looked at them to notice the blonde's stare was on me, probably he wanted me to burn holes into my skull for interrupting his moment with Lara.
At least that's what I believed until I was in front of them as he offered me a supposed charming smile.
"Nice to finally bump into the talk of the town." He made a little dramatic pause to then add.
"The name's Madarame Shion, but you can call me sir, if you're into that kind of thing." A devilish grin spread across his face as he introduced himself, his voice dripping with sarcasm and bravado.
You only needed to hear that, to know that he was the type of man who looks better with his mouth shut.
Eyeing Lara as she looked confused about Shion's introduction, considering her words before putting on one of her best smiles and finally breaking the awkward silence, "He is just a little full of himself today, don't mind him."
Wrapping her arm around his as she tried to justify him.
"I wouldn't call it being full of myself, more like pointing out the different possibilities my little minx." He remarked with a toothy grin, only a few inches separating his face from hers.
There was clearly something between them, but no way I was letting that guy try to woo her in some way.
"Right, a little minx huh?" I interjected with a sneer as it was now time to put this guy into his place.
And I surely didn't mind doing that.
"Well, if you're going to be throwing around names, then I suppose I can call you a douche." Locking eyes with him while my lips rose into a mocking smile.
Shion seemed more amused than annoyed by my response, as if he enjoyed this back-and-forth insult exchange.
Licking his teeth to then speak "If she is my little minx... Then you shall be my little vixen." This time leaning closer to me as he was trying to control the situation, perfectly knowing how to get under someone's skin.
It was futile trying to beat him this way, as it seemingly was his best field.
This would have taken time to bring him down from that supposed throne he believes he is on, and embarrass him when he is with Lara so she would leave him, but right now i didn't have the time nor the patience to do so.
So I did what I should have done from the start.
"It's late we should get home Lara," Motioning for her to come as I gave one last glance at Shion before saying "It was shit meeting you, hopefully I won't see that ugly face anymore."
Opening the door of my car as I waited for Lara that was still hesitant to leave.
"Why can't we stay out a bit longer? I mean, it's Friday night and we don't have anything to do tomorrow..." She said trying to convince me as her voice was dripping with disappointment at the idea of returning home so early.
Still I gave her one last look as an ultimatum, and she didn't do anything but walk in my direction complying to my order, sighing like a little kid since she was in no place to argue when I was the one driving.
The only one still calm was Shion watching us intently with a smug smile on his face as he added "Oh yeah? You're pretty annoying yourself,"
Both of us were already in the car as it didn't take much before we exited the momentary spot where I parked it.
"But that's what makes you endearing. Sweetheart" He concluded talking to himself.
Leaving him there, as the speedometer raised and lowered its pointer.
The car ride was silent until I stopped at a red light taking the opportunity to look at her, so maybe she will fill in the blanks and explain what the hell I needed to interact with him.
To which she just responded with, "Do I have something on my face?" Saying this as she moved the rearview mirror towards herself to check.
I was now looking at her like she just killed my family.
"How many times have I told you that the rearview mirror isn't to check yourself out!" Examining exasperated as I tried to fix the mess she just caused, only for her to start fiddling with the car radio as she browsed through the different channels.
Finally settling down for one to then look at me as she leaned into her seat, "So what do you think about Shion?"
To which I answered.
"I'm thinking about how much weed you've smoked to even see something in him," sighing to then add.
"Lara I'm seriously thinking you have a talent to find self centered assholes."
Tumblr media
This story continues with a man whose ambitions drove him to obsession.
Kisaki Tetta, a man who both instills fear in others and arouses hatred. Not just any ordinary criminal, but rather, one of the men who rules the darker depths of the criminal underworld of Japan, pulling the strings behind the scenes and manipulating those below him to his will.
All in order to find peace and escape his weak past self, who failed to stand-up to the cruelties of this unjust world. By any means necessary, he sought to reach the position that he currently holds.
No one could oppose him, not even her.
Tachibana Hinata, his sweetheart. The girl in which words and praises he found shelter, words that even his own mother didn't say to him if there wasn't any perfect test score that accompanied his request of appreciation.
Her kind and straight forward personality truly caught him in its embrace. Making his past self desire more kind from the young girl. She was truly his first love, or at least in his eyes she will forever be.
She had saved him mentally, and yet he was unable to save her physically that fateful afternoon when they first met their hero.
Hanagaki Takemichi, a walking wannabe defender of justice. Mock him how much you want for being beat up after making his entrance, still he was able to offer her comfort and protection when she needed it.
He truly admired his bravery and was thankful to him for saving his muse, if taking the hit instead of her was considered saving.
Then so be it!
Next time he will be the one protecting Hina.
But there wasn't a next time and there never will be. Hina didn't get into trouble, and after that day her parents enrolled her in some self defense classes.
Yet their life's took different paths after they graduated elementary school, forced to part ways by the wishes of their parents.
Still managing from time to time to cross paths when going to buy groceries, it was fascinating to think about their friendship, going from being close friends at school to distant acquaintances outside of it.
He adored those moments he got to spend with her, her voice was so smooth to get him to space out sometimes
—Life was still good for him.
Or so he thought, till the start of the second year of middle school. Hina started to space out multiple times while they talked, which was very unusual for her.
This left the young man feeling confused as he tried to make sense of her behaviour. It was like she was physically there but her head was elsewhere.
In conclusion there was something else going on beneath the surface that Kisaki was unaware of; Still it wasn't that big of a mystery as she later confessed that she and Takemichi go to the same middle school.
Until here it was all fun and games.
Fool, he shouted victory too early and as a result he was taken back to discover she had been harboring feelings for the boy since their first encounter.
Otherwise from Kisaki, Hinata was and never will be a bystander especially when she was in love, more than ready to battle for Takemichi's one.
And weeks later in a spring evening, he was welcomed not only by allergies but also with the news of her being in a romantic relationship.
With none other than the crybaby hero himself.
He should have understood it by now, nothing good in this world comes for free and lasts forever.
He could cherish them from afar and trust them to not do anything stupid, but if he didn't take matters into his own hands; He would be just a passing phase for the lives of the two lovers.
His mind was a mess as many of his beliefs became doubts, but about one thing he was certain. He wanted her, the thing he lacked for that made him fall in love with her.
What his beloved considered pure platonic friendship for him became a full time obsession, not essentially on her but also on her so-called boyfriend.
Takemichi, the admiration he had in his regards
didn't take much time to turn into resentment and disgust.
Beginning to despise everything about him; Starting from that new bleach job that he got done, making him look even more of a bigger prick than he already was.
Ruining Hina's image with his choice of joining the delinquent world like many of their peers.
Sure he remained the same brave idiot he knew, still he became nothing more than a trouble maker to the public eye.
Always wondering why girls often romanticized being in love with delinquents, fantasizing any possible love story with them.
Couldn't they be happy with a regular guy?
How could troublesome and dumb clowns like them be attractive to girls?
Maybe it was their appearance? The charisma that some of them had?
No, it became crystal clear now. It was the seek of thrill in their life.
To have someone who will protect them, go on late motorcycle rides, boys who aren't afraid of judgements.
He was just a gifted boy with an average and easy life. Waiting for his happiness.
He had nothing to offer to no-one, destiny couldn't do anything with his useless life.
This was a big mistake he had made; Waiting for people to walk right into his life, and then expect them to stay. Only one person did, Hina.
But even she could walk away like she walked in. He couldn't afford losing her.
And there he is thirteen years later. Still hasn't lost hope on having a relationship with her.
Looking through the car window, gazing upon some carefree birds flying in the afternoon sky;
The sun gave its last rays for the day, as the chilly air hit his face hinting the approaching of fall season.
How he wished to spend a peaceful evening like this with a cup of tea in his hand, enjoying the warmth of the sun while he still had the chance.
Instead he was in a car driving him to attend a meeting regarding the incompetence of his subordinate.
His appearance was absolutely flawless, with silken vanilla blond hair pulled back by a touch of old and practical gel as light danced across his blue scrutiny eyes which gazed at the horizon through the glasses he wore.
His outfit was a sharp beige suit, perfectly complemented by a tie that matched the hue of his eyes like no other combination could.
Finally entering the gates of the unique complex of coloured buildings. Tinted glass hiding the different illegal doings inside of them, prostitution being the main of course.
After all these were the Haitani headquarters.
Waiting for him in front of the main building was Hanma Shuji, his infamous right-hand man, a crazy bastard ready to do anything for some thrill and action.
His tall, lanky figure made it easy to distinguish him from the sea of people entering and exiting the structure.
Those golden irises bore sharp and fiery glares which were contoured by the lens of the glasses covering the man's eyes.
His gaze was lazy and casual as he searched for something to pique his interest, constantly moving from place to place and person to person.
Just when he spotted a familiar car pulling up, the bland expression was quickly replaced by his trademark mocking grin.
In just a split second he was standing at the curb, ready to open the door for Kisaki.
Without a moment to spare ready to greet him and show his efficiency and promptness.
Jokes on you, he just wanted to taunt him even this early in the morning by making various snarky comments.
After opening the car door, their usual dynamic began to play out.
"Kisaki! I see that you're perfectly on time and busy as ever…Wonder if you ever take a break?" Breaking the ice with a bit of light-hearted teasing, to then afterwards ask.
"What would the occasion be, if I may ask?" His boss didn't even give him a glance as he started to walk towards the entrance.
Hanma couldn't do anything but follow right behind him, this was a classic behavior Kisaki had in his regards, how could he blame him though?
He knew he was annoying and used that to his advantage, but these games weren't so effective on his superior.
Walking straight ahead to the elevator, it seemed like Kisaki was cutting in half the lobby. Which was teeming with low-ranking scantily dressed prostitutes.
To which his subordinate being the gentleman he was let his eyes wander around, like he hasn't seen this already multiple times.
Shamelessly observing his surroundings, and all of them had a good package, just saying.
And when he got to the elevator there was his boss waiting for him, spitting the most vile and hurtful words to him and his dick.
But honestly he couldn't care less of what the shorter male said, if he was alright with anything that brought him to feel the thrill.
And to top that off, what would be more satisfying than seeing the one that offered him that fall apart? As his childhood dreams shatter.
Silence filled the elevator ride, until unexpectedly the shorter one broke it.
"Has Shion updated you on his progress? Because from what I've been told, he's been wasting time smoking weed and drinking,"
'Annoyed' wasn't quite the right word to describe his attitude. Instead, he was getting fed up quickly with Shion's bullshit, I mean who wouldn't?
Despite the length of time that they'd worked together, Hanma didn't grow weary of his boss' behavior, enjoying the show whenever he could; Like it was just an ordinary day in the office for him.
Prior to dismissing the subject as unimportant, "It's not my problem that you chose someone so incompetent for such an important task."
Earning a sharp glare from his superior to then backfire.
"Oh really? Wonder who advised me to send him for it, you know what? You're right; It's my fault for listening to some worthless bastard like you."
Hanma raised his hands and casually replied, "What can I say? Guilty as charged." Accepting his guilt as a sign of amusement and carelessness, dismissing his boss concerns completely.
"Wow we got a comedian over here?" His companion said with a sarcastic tone. "You certainly seem to be enjoying this, don't you?"
He surely was.
"If you're enjoying this so much, how about you go fix his mess?" Kisaki snapped back with a sarcastic tone followed by a challenging statement, saying, "Surely you won't mind, since you find this so amusing."
By sarcastically stating that Hanma wouldn't mind, he implied that fixing the situation was his responsibility in the first place.
"Oh please, who got your panties in a twist? Why the hell should I be included in this? It's his fault man."
He very well knows how much of a selfish and reluctant individual Hanma Shuji is; loves to laugh about someone else's mistakes, but dream on to actually seeing him helping them.
"It's not for you to choose to do so, Reaper. It's an order." With these words, his superior made it clear that this was not a request but a demand that as his subordinate had to follow.
And of course his tongue-in-cheek nature had to butt in along with his nonchalant attitude, nodding his head in a gesture of mock obedience saying, "Then I shall comply with your request, my sir."
But he very well knew his and Shion's life's were at risk, which honestly added more thrill to the thing.
Then a ding concluded his last thought, indicating that they reached the top floor, letting his boss exit first to then follow right behind.

Two male figures were walking into the halls of the police station, one proceeding with his fast peace while the other tailing right behind him, trying to lose the distance between them attempting to reason with his companion on a matter this last one didn't understand.
Or let's rather say he didn't want to understand...
"Kazutora, can you be reasonable for one time? You can't decide to do things on your own, especially now that you're in an organization!" There he goes being ignored by his friend, again.
Chifuyu was concerned about Kazutora's behavior, as the latter was consumed by guilt and self-blame due to Mikey's disappearance.
It turned into casual sex in a futile attempt to escape his own guilt and the memory that haunted him.
"Let me put it in a language you can comprehend. I'm exhausted at having to deal with so much paranoia every day," With a slight turn and a sharp exhalation, he faced Chifuyu, his eyes tired as he continued.
"If we continue like this, someday that picture on that board may turn out to be our single and final memory of Mikey!" For once, he truly did understand him, lacking the desire to blame him instead he wanted to free him, just like he did when he saved him from the grip of an abusive father.
It was explicit that his friend blamed himself for Mikey's crimes, and Chifuyu couldn't reason with his stubborn ass.
"Have a nice day Matsuno." With this last statement he made his way to the stairs.
He only hoped he wouldn't do anything too reckless like he did in the past...
But he clearly underestimated his companion.
In a certain way, he was able to relate to Kazutora, as the latter was similar to his younger self of thirteen years ago.
However if he in his teenage years failed to accomplish a much simpler rescue plan, statistically talking it's not like his friend had a much bigger chance of succeeding, if not lower.
Arriving at a point where he wondered if he should drag Baji's corpse out of the grave, revive him with some kind of ritual, so he could knock some sense into Kazutora's head, first with punches and then words as he usually did back in the day.
Seriously speaking though.
The concept of a gang originated from the ambitions of Mikey but especially Baji during their childhood; As the last one idolized Shinichiro, the older brother of the first one.
Also best known as the commander of the first generation of the Black Dragon, the most powerful biker gang in Tokyo back in the 90's.
The duo harbored the desire to follow the footsteps of their idol, wishing to create a gang of their own and live out their youthful fantasies.
So when the right time came, with the help of those who would eventually be known as the core members of its creation, namely Sano Maniiro, Riyuguji Ken, Baji Keisuke, Mitsuya Takashi, Hayashida Haruki and Hanemiya Kazutora, they officially gave life to Toman.
Even if the latter ended up in juvenile detention, it didn't stop the enlargement of it.
As the gang was more than just a part time thing, as it had a cherished place in the hearts of the captains and their vices.
And three years later it was living fully its era of gold, being recognized as one of the most powerful biker gangs of Tokyo.
But with the fall and loss of Baji, one of its linchpins, it became more and more fragile as time passed, somewhat still managing to have their influence over the city.
Thanks to some scum of members doing dirty work to archive it.
One thing was known for sure by the members, if Mikey was in command with Draken alongside him everything would have gone just fine.
Not knowing that the commander lost both of his parents at the age of three, being raised by his older brother Shinichiro and grandfather Mansaku who taught him the ways of karate, from which he made a name for himself in the streets.
The Sano siblings were just like a group of bowling pins, put in line one after the other connected by bad luck.
Another individual who had a lack of luck was Kurokawa Izana, their non-blood-related relative, fruit of the love of a Filipino woman and man.
Unfortunately, after her companion died, she found herself looking after the young boy on her own. Until she crossed paths with Masaru Sano, father of Shinichiro and Manjiro.
They became lovers and were together for a brief period until she passed away as well.
But he wasn't so heartless to not take the young boy with him, taking him under his wing as he went to live with his new flame, Karen.
And at that moment, they also had an infant daughter, Emma. Who he left behind as he also made his departure to the underworld.
Not even after she just turned three, her father's last paramour abandoned her in front of the Sano household, as she took her leave, and never returned back.
While she was introduced to her half brothers, her previous one wasn't doing very well.
Unlike her he was dropped at an orphanage, left to himself.
But despite the hardships, there was still hope for Izana as Shinichiro sought after him tirelessly.
After his grandfather had a talk with him, and nominated the young boy that lived together with Emma and Karen before they all parted ways. He was determined to locate him, to hopefully make him become a new member of the family.
And he does find him, instaurating an amazing sibling bond between him and the soon to be Sano.
Making him believe in that fairy tail, where everyone gets their happy endings but the villain.
Over time Shinichiro begins to talk about Emma and Manjiro too, giving him updates and telling him their adventures hoping to fuel the curiosity and excitement of the younger boy, but no success.
One thing he did fuel though, the young albino haired boy's jealousy in the regards of Mikey.
Believing the boy was trying to separate him from Shinichiro, he refused to let another loved one get snatched away from him, as he viewed the older sano sibling as a father-like figure in his life.
Taking a firm stance against the notion of letting the boy take the only thing remaining that could fill the void that the loss of his parents had created in his life.
But either way he had to be taken away from this world to early repent for his sins.
And just like this the bowling ball had hit one of the side pins that would later take two more down with it.
Starting the countdown for the lives of the other two Sano and our one and only Kurokawa.
Second to fall was Emma, Izana following right behind her leaving Mikey now all alone.
Waiting for the ball to eventually hit him.
So yeah he became a somewhat untraceable suicidal crime boss, in flip flops.
Ok he sounds too silly if we describe him that way, but he is Mikey so being silly is —Correction was his nature.
And what better way was there for the search to continue other than staging a reunion with the past division captains of Toman?
Reviving the organization, as now it slides sides and cooperates with the law to extend the reach of effectiveness in the search.
Working together while risking our lives for a better cause, which was stopping Manjiro and making him exit from that corrupted mentality so his name won't be stained by different numerous crimes.
That was our main goal, while the police wanted Bonten to fall apart, trying to capture most of its executives and associates, slamming them into jail and leaving them to rot there.

Lunch break; And those four motherfuckers were still in the office discussing business, well actually, only two of them were seriously discussing business while the other pair had discarded their jackets, loosened up their ties and opened the first buttons of their white shirts as they were busy hugging and laughing, just being the regular obnoxious drunk duo.
Remembering embarrassing past experiences, until the alcohol would no longer make them feel it's stung on their throat.
"Do you remember that intoxicated exotic dancer who wanted to provide you with a lap dance, but accidentally slapped you with her tits in your face?" The older Haitani inquired and then added, "I have never laughed so much in my entire life, I tell you!"
This was one of the many amusing escapades that they lived through together whilst being part of the Tenjiku and later the Kantou Manji Gang.
Chuckling his pal added.
"She was worse than a bitch in heat, the impact that came with it, and the weed effect nearly sent me to the depths of Hades, no cap!" This statement earning a snort from Kisaki,
while Rindou had become accustomed to dealing with drunk imbeciles.
So this was very common for him to not say usual in his daily life.
"If you ever require a prostitute's services for your trip into the so-called land of freedom, you know who to contact. I have a few fresh faces this week, and who knows maybe they can help you enjoy it to the fullest!" Ran's face broke into a smug and happy grin, as he offered his ex comrade the opportunity to indulge in some pleasure even out of the state.
However, the younger Haitani was clearly unamused by this show of generosity. He may not have shown it explicitly, but his mind was filled to the brim with irritation.
"Hold your horses, until we don't receive the order or further instructions we can't start any new negotiations with third parties, so refrain your fantasies together for another time." Collecting his papers and putting them into a folder.
Kisaki got up after he finished his paperwork, as his presence wasn't needed anymore.
"If you excuse me gentleman. I have some other important matters to attend to, so now I'll take my leave."
Matters my ass, he just wanted to leave as soon as the meeting was over, since the next few days will be brimming with work-related responsibilities and meetings; So he needed as much rest as he could get.
He might have the brain of a genius, but a brain doesn't work if it's not taken care of.
Rindou was about to tell him to get his dog with him, but it was already too late as the other business man was already out of the door.
Leaving him with not one, but two annoying drunken pricks.
He hated his job, at first it was fun until there wasn't any thrill in his life as everything was now routine.
He very well knew that once you get in Bonten, you can't leave.
Not alive at least.
Exactly, in exchange of what they always wanted as teens, they had to give their freedom and loyalty in return. But they didn't have any other choice.
Or let's say he didn't have any voice in chapter...

Two best friends, on the balcony; Violating the now deep black color of the sky with white and gray free spirited hazes.
The smoke danced along that void which gave the buildings a defined shape, floating lazily into the darkness of it, disappearing into the night sky just as soon, almost seeming like it was absorbed by it.
While I absorbed Lara's blabbering about Shion, as nicotine gave me the patience I needed for it.
"And when our eyes locked into a curious dance, I wondered; Who could he be? What has he seen in his life to make him pick my eye?" She concluded by taking another hit from the cigarette.
"It's a waste of effort, Lara. Just by viewing him one can tell he is more of a rake than a real-life criminal or thug, whatever he claimed himself to be,"
"You should really raise your standards, for your own good." I sighed out, flicking the back of my cigarette as the ash dropped down the railing into the street.
"Is that so? Funny coming from a woman who sent nudes to her lover before they even hit their third month, I doubt you're in a position to speak about such matters of morality." She retorted, rolling her eyes dismissively.
"Really? You're picking something that happened almost a decade ago so you could counter what I have just stated?" I replied, as the tone of my voice was disappointed while my face displayed an irritated grimace.
"Il lupo cambia il pelo ma non il vizio." She shrugged, looking to the side.
"Can you please listen to me, and stop behaving as if you own the world while I'm trying to advise you?" I was now furious, dropping my cigarette on the balcony tiles, firmly stomping on it and kicking the butt out of the railing.
"This individual is not good for you, I am trying to help you not get another heartbreak, like the one you had in junior year; With a guy who by the way was seven years older than you!" Rubbing my temples while I spoke in an attempt to soothe the headache that I was starting to feel, as I added.
"You want me to remember my mistakes from the past? Fine by me, have it your way, but don't think I won't reciprocate since you're no saint either." I concluded as now I was fully annoyed, while my eyes betrayed the fury I felt towards her shitty remarks.
"You always get your way! It's honestly so annoying how you establish your argument as definitive truth, and nothing can prove them wrong in any circumstance," Lara stated, unable to suppress emotions as her voice rose to match mine, expressing the pent up frustration and the feeling inferior to me even if she was older.
"I know I'm stupid and keep making the same mistake over and over again," She declared, as if she had nothing to lose by making me see her vulnerable side.
"But it's too late as now I'm addicted to that type of person, despite the fact that they will fuck me up." As she continued to vent her feelings to me, her voice became lower and lower.
There always was a sense of beauty she saw in her circumstances, no matter how bad they were. Despite the challenges, she would always point out a hint of good and cling onto it.
Nonchalant of the consequences.
"Let's join Lia on the sofa, and enjoy the match of football. We shall discuss this another time." I exhaled deeply, trying to turn her attention to some light entertainment.
"But I haven't finished my cigarette!" Protesting, as she held the carcinogen stick between the middle and index finger of her right hand.
In no time, the cigarette was swiftly thrown over the railing, by me as it flew down to the street where it crashed on the ground; Putting an arm across Lara's shoulders, guiding her inside.
Welcomed by the triumph screams of Lia, spinning around in the air her team's scarf, as apparently gli Azzurri had scored against the Brave Blossoms.
Her joy was palpable even to the neighbor next door, as he banged his fist against the wall while cursing at us to keep it down. Reminding us that it was late, and there were other people residing on the second floor.
We did nothing but laugh to our heart content at it.
"We'll surely try, cariño~!" I shouted back in a playful tone, with a hint of flirtatiousness in my voice.
I had a soft spot for our neighbor, Mr. Garcia; The handsome Spanish teacher, who recently moved into the condo weeks prior. With his suave personality and dazzling charisma, how could one not?
His anger issues were on another level though, maybe those were the reason his wife divorced him.
But one thing I know for sure, I would have chosen Spanish instead of French in middle school if he was the teacher.
As only the idea made me caliente between my legs.
Only to be dragged back to reality by Lia as she sat us down on the couch, to then accommodate herself between me and Lara, keeping us at a short leash, so to speak.
"It would be appreciated if you kept your lustful scenarios to yourself, at least until this match finishes." Lia expressed with a tired sigh.
"Oh come on what's wrong with letting your fantasy run a little wild? Plus who wouldn't fall for a dilf like him-" I answered as Lara playfully hit my shoulder chuckling, before Lia cut us off putting both of her index finger on our lips.
"Shh shut it for now..." She whispered strictly, eyes glued onto the screen of the TV.
The camera now shifted its focus to Tommaso Allan, who had the ball passed onto him by one of his teammates. In a swift and decisive move, he rushed forward, and successfully managed to overcome an opponent who had initially blocked his path. He was in the process of searching for an ally to pass the ball to, when Kanji Shimokawa suddenly tackled him to the ground, catching him by surprise and seemingly causing him to lose the ball.
"Now that's a hunk!" Lia remarked as she viewed the slow-motion replay of the action on the screen.
Only for me and Lara to shut down her affirmation.

As the game progressed, the Italian team was in advantage, netting two more touchdowns, prompting Kanji to utter a series of curses in the meantime, his anger being quite apparent.
Takeomi glanced sideways at his companion, cigarette between his lips, taking a long drag before saying. "You worry too much buddy,"
"They are playing on their home ground, with that huge advantage I'm sure they are just being a little playful with the opposing team just to put on a show and then get serious reversing the situation."
To which the fake blonde answered with a serious demeanor, "One thing I know for sure, and that is their victory over the Azzurri. I'm not taking another loss from our national team." He stated.
To which the other male answered.
"Then try not to get any white hair from the stress, it would ruin that dye job." Taking a long drag from his cigarette as he talked to his colleague.
While their two younger superiors played pool in the background, the pink-haired freak wasn't having any bullshit from his smoke addict of an older brother.
"Can you shut that trap of yours and stop smoking like you're mourning someone!? It's so fucking annoying to smell the smoke of your cheap cigarettes!" Talking, more like spitting words as if he was speaking with the lowest scum on earth.
"Suck it up Haruchiyo, your weed is no better." He firmly stated puffing out the smoke.
"It's Sanzu to you Akashi, stop acting like we're close and playing family, we both know you suck at it." Snarling while he glared at the older male.
"Fair enough, I just thought you missed my figure as an older brother." He laughed to himself.
While his little brother scoffed at his antics, dispising him from the very bottom of his heart.
Applying some chalk on the cue stick, as he got ready to make his strike.
"You talk as if you've died, which unfortunately you didn't. Anyhow, who would miss such a parasite as you?" With a swift and precise motion hitting the little white ball, as it went rolling full speed colliding with the brown one, "The world would just lighten from such burden if you did." He concluded as the ball fell into the hole.
"Oh- come on now, you talk as if I've ruined your life, or in this case as if I was the only one that did-" Being cut off by Mochi esulting as the Brave Blossoms finally scored a point after a back and forth between the two teams.
"Take that, you pasta eating bitches!" He was aware that the Azzurri were still ahead of a point but had so much faith in his team to win, as his nationalism kicked in.
When the two charismatic figures of Bonten entered the room.
Or more like one entered while having the arm of the other on his shoulders, as he helped him walk inside.
"Ahoy there, mates! Terribly sorry to keep you all waiting, I was busy chugging down copious amounts of liquor." Stumbling forward for a couple of steps as he gripped tightly the fabric of his brother's suit, the older Haitani made his entrance.
"However, I've recovered somewhat and I'm ready to enjoy some time together with you beautiful, beautiful people!" The man drunkenly declared, while his sibling dumped him on one of the minibar stools.
"Stay put, alright? Don't do anything dumb." Putting his brother in a position where he wouldn't fall off the stool from squirming around.
"I'm not a kid anymore, Rindou. I can take care of myself, even when I'm tipsy. Seriously, don't you trust me?" He proudly stated.
"There's nothing to be so proud of, Ran." Only to be cut off by the other, "I mean, I know how to handle my booze!" As the two got into a back and forth over the situation, which only got more chaotic and interrupted Kokonoi's efforts to concentrate and get some work done.
The ladder was immediately caught by their words, as he grew annoyed by all the interruptions to his work.
"Can you stop being so loud!? I'm trying to focus and you're making it almost impossible!" He snapped, his patience quickly running out with the ruckus.
The younger Haitani was already fed up after all the bullshit he had to deal with today.
As the situation wasn't helping, and his patience was quickly running out. He was ready to explode, and this slight form of provocation pushed him over the edge.
"Screw off, dick cheese! This isn't a place for work. Stop thinking about more ways to make money when we don't need it right now, you capitalist prick!" He exclaimed not able to control his temper anymore, as now he just wanted to exit the room not wanting to completely lose it.
And he did just that leaving his drunk sibling over there with the other lad, quickly making his way to the elevator.
Ran, being the drunken flirt he is, decided to break the silence between them with a bold claim, "Don't listen to him, gorgeous. You can consider this room your workplace, and if anyone else says otherwise, let me take care of it. I'm quite the big deal around here." Clearly still drunk from the alcohol, he mistakenly thought the white haired man was a woman.
Who seemingly caught his attention so he wanted to shoot his shot and earn some chuckles from, but he only received a disgusted glare from his comrade.
"For the love of all that is holy, please just trip over a knife and leave me alone." He face palmed in utter exasperation, as just the idea of having to deal with Ran's drunken antics was just too much for him to bear. He returned to typing on his laptop, trying his best to avoid Ran and hoping he wouldn't interrupt him again.
He was wrong, Ran was right behind him, his arms draped over his shoulders as he leaned over to whisper in the other man's ear, "Oh come on, don't you like attention? Especially from such a charming man like myself." Continuing to hit on the supposed woman he believed his comrade was.
"I like respect and boundaries, don't you know personal space is a thing? Stop being a creep and keep your goddamn hands to yourself, geez." Wanting the other to get the point and leave him alone, he wasn't going to sugarcoat his words to not sound offensive.
Still the rather tipsy individual took it personally.
"Me a creep? Please, I'm a gentleman." He started, quickly retracting his hands from his companion's back.
"Is there any difference? A gentleman is just a more patient and pleasing wolf in sheep's clothing" He retorted with a roll of his eyes, not impressed by the behavior of his companion.
“Don't be a killjoy, sweet cheeks! Why waste those lovely locks if you aren't gonna put them to good use? Maybe they'll look even better with my fingers through them and you on your knees." He said with a cocky demeanor, leaning on the counter holding his head and looking dreamily at his colleague back, as if imagining the various things he wanted to do with 'her'.
Ran was high on his own fantasies of romance and sex, while Rindou was high on their own professional success.
Making his way to their boss' office to report the process of their successful deal with Kisaki, hoping that their superior, Mikey, would be pleased with that accomplishment and tell him and Kokonoi to begin making the necessary investments into their new deals.
Rindou, after stepping out of the elevator to the top floor, was met with the warm glow of the sunset as the sun was slowly setting in the horizon. Within thirty minutes, night would fully sweep over Tokyo, giving the window one last glimpse before heading to the boss' office.
Firmly stepping through the double doors, closing them behind him. He glanced up at his boss, making eye contact with the man piercing black irises.
Despite his lanky and short stature. He was the epitome of 'don't judge the book by its cover.'
As his presence was intimidating, making the executive quick mental note to keep the report short; The faster, the better.
"How did it go Haitani? Hopefully you gave a good image of Bonten." He asked even though it seemed more a threat, making the thirty year old man stand straight.
Breathing out, relaxing as he recollected his thoughts, he started to give his report about today's meeting he and his brother had with the heads of the Tenjiku criminal organization, Kisaki and his left hand man Hanma.
It was hard for Mikey to remain calm and focused while listening to Rindou talk about them, considering the men were the ones who caused the death of two of his siblings. Still, managing to stay silent and not show the frustration he felt.
With a quick hand gesture shutting the other man up, before he inquired, "Was Hanma much of a hassle during it?"
Rindou quickly shook his head, "He was knocked out shortly after Ran got him to try some of the new booze we ordered from China," he explained before adding "Just as you had told to operate."
Another hand gesture telling him to continue, as he complied with his boss' order.
“He wanted to have some other drinks so we gave him a vip pass to one fo our most known nightclubs, for later we prepared a royal suite at one of our five star hotels.”
Instead of going through all this trouble he could have shot that adrenaline freak, leaving him to die alone like a bastard in the corner of a cold and lost alley, people wouldn't even notice about his disappearance. Nobody would care honestly, not even the police.
But his boss' orders weren't optional, and Rindou would much rather follow them and tolerate the other annoying asshole for that short period of time, than suffer the wrath of Mikey's so-called 'loyal mad dog.'
As being skinned alive by him doesn't sound so appealing to no one. Whatever he has to do he will do it, and get the job done.
"He will depart to San Francisco tomorrow at 7 am sharp. At least this is what I know from the information Kisaki gave me." He concluded, fixing his tie as he awaited further instruction or questions from his superior.
After a long period of them just staring at each other as silence surrounded them, the boss moved his arm over the landline, his fingers pressing a button before speaking.
"Kokonoi, come to my office and bring Ran along with you." The boss says to the other person on the line, in a firm and clear tone.
And not even five minutes after three people enter the office out of the two requested.
"I was told there was going to be some top-notch food here," The still intoxicated individual exclaimed, ready to engage in whatever entertainment that was happening currently. However, despite this, the pink haired individual accompanying this person mentally scoffed and was annoyed by his drunken behavior.
Nevertheless, the person's sotic expression remained in front of the king that he followed, regardless of the irritation caused by the inebriated idiot.
With Kokonoi right behind them, closing the doors after entering with his laptop in one hand a dossier on top of it.
"You told me you were taking me to your hot female friends, but I see no beautiful babes, no sexy girls, just a bunch of ugly dudes in an office." Rather disappointed by the lie Kokonoi told him to get his ass moving as soon Mikey required their presence there, Sanzu wasted no time in dropping Ran on the leather couch like he was a sack of potatoes.
"My hot bitches-" was as far as the drunk individual's complaining got, because he was abruptly interrupted by Sanzu placing his hand over his mouth, trying to shut him up, only to have it licked away in the process. The other man was disgusted by the behavior of the drunk individual, and his annoyance was starting to show.
"What the hell you freak!" he exclaimed, clearly surprised and not expecting this to happen. He quickly pulled his arm back, Kokonoi offering him a handkerchief as he proceeded to walk towards Mikey.
Placing his laptop and the folder on the desk of this last one, as he began to state the analysis he made about how much would their earnings rise out of assimilating Tenjiku into Bonten, with the ultimate goal of absorbing them completely after removing the top two heads.
"What about Madarame Shion?" Sanzu questioned about the third head, Kokonoi confidently responded by saying.
"He is no threat. He's easy to bribe with some money and power, maybe be generous and add a couple of women for him too..." He paused looking at Rindou before continuing.
"But if his appetite isn't satisfied by that, two bullets can shut his mouth for good, and make him grateful that we ended his life quickly." Showing no hesitation or remorse as he made his statement, clearly not bothered by the slightest to have a guilty conscience.
As long as it serves the greater interests and goals of the criminal organization he loyally serves, fill his pockets and mouth, he will do that and much worse.
"What do you think, boss?" Sanzu looked to Mikey for an answer, waiting to make sure they were all on the same page.
Ready to follow whatever came out of his mouth.
As his boss was still contemplating the situation, thinking about the best move to make. Finally deciding to go along with the plan suggested by Koko, believing that there shouldn't be any trouble with the third head of Tenjiku as long as they had a fool-proof plan to bring the man over to their side, and if not get rid of him.
Pulling out of the folder the documents before giving it one last adjustment, as he and Rindou put their signature on them, handing them to Sanzu and Mikey so they could do the same, as they both read what the contract was about before signing too.
Officially declaring their agreement, now they just had to wait for the outcome, and ensure that everything proceeded according to plan.
"Now we have time to give this to Kisaki, while I need you to give this to Hanma as he will go overseas tomorrow morning." Kokonoi directed Rindou, sticking out with his hand a piece of paper from the folder for him to take.

In the middle of the nightclub, surrounded by the loud music and boisterous atmosphere, is a man. Average height and a lean type of build, with a face that is so charming even now when it displays nothing more than indifference.
He was familiar if not used to having ladies of the night by his side as they swayed along the music, one in particular, his favorite.
The young woman was basically a walking feast for the eyes, her figure a perfect example of what the male gaze perceives as the ultimate beauty.
As she back faced him, his hands under hers as she guided him to feel every curve he already knew of her body, as they moved along the rithm of the music.
Still failing miserably when it came to Kazutora, as his mind was elsewhere, and she was nothing more than another Saturday night for him.
And while she tried to win his attention for hours, only to see her efforts fail, something much simpler had managed to get the job done. And that was a buzz from his phone, tucked away in his jeans pockets.
Quickly making his way across the nightclub towards the bar, presumably intent on finding a way to end his night on a more positive note. However, the woman was not about to give up that easily. She followed closely behind him, trying not to loose him in the sea of people.
When he reached the bar, the man paid for his drink, before giving the woman some gas money to call an Uber. This sent the signal loud and clear that he had enough partying for the evening, and the lady was forced to accept defeat.
He needed to fully focus on the task at hand he gave himself, still he wasn't no ungrateful bastard as he bid her a swift goodbye, planting a quick kiss on her cheek as a sort of consolation.
Walking out of the club leaving her behind. Reviewing the intel his most trusted subordinate had sent him.
"Roppongi huh?"
Haitani's well known turf. Still half of their subordinates liked to say they were loyal, in reality they are just a bunch of dumb assholes that with a little money and lies you could buy.
Cracking the engine to life as soon as he got on his motorcycle, a loud roar filled the mostly empty parking lot due to the late hour.
Taking a hold of the handle bar, rubbing it to gain more speed. He then performed a half circle turn to then speed off down the wet streets of Shibuya.
The streets were empty, except for the occasional low-life thugs or wannabe gangsters. He enjoyed nights like this, as it was just him, his motorcycle, and the cool wind that brushed across his now rosy cheeks. The blonde streaks in his hair blew freely, adding even more beauty to this moment.
Taking the exit onto the highway, it started to get boring.
Until he noticed a luxurious car in the distance, it seemed to be a black Mercedes-Benz.
Surely expensive to maintain, from the looks it seemed it was brand new. Although he couldn't see the owner, unfortunately as this rich bastard had black tinted car windows. But surely he seemed to be in deep thought as he moved with a slow monotone peace.
Then an idea came to his mind.
Letting the car gain a good distance, before going at maximum speed just right beside it. The roars of the motorcycle surprised the driver that much he swerved off into another lane. Luckily, the driver hit the brakes with all his might saving the car from making an accident.
Kazutora burst into laughter, not caring about the person in the car he almost killed. According to him, it was the driver's mistake to be distracted and wandering off with their thoughts while on the highway.
And since he considered himself to be a good cop, he saw it as his duty to remind him of this simple rule.
In his style and way of doing it.
The two figures that exited the car didn't catch his attention for long, as the situation had given him enough fun for today. Turning back to focus his attention on the road and on his true goal that night —visiting one of the night clubs owned by the two charismatic brothers.
Unbeknownst to him, the ones that he almost made go astray were none other than the two brothers, and the psychopath with a pink mullet of their superior.
The younger Haitani was outraged after the incident, and furiously started shouting calling the driver of the bike all sorts of names.
"That bastard!" The man yelled, his tone raging with fury.
In spite of his subordinate's outrage, Sanzu saw comedy in the situation and couldn't help but crack up.
"Calm down, bro. This is hilarious. it almost felt like we were going to die there," His coworker said with a wicked grin, as he closed and leaned into the car door.
Rindou was now fuming with outrage as the Joker wanna be continued to go at it.
"What? It's not my fault nor his that you drive like an old lady," The individual shrugged, unconcerned.
"You sick fuck! That damned bike almost caused us to crash! I might drive like a grandma, but who does he think he is acting like a maniac on the road?!" Storming back to the car, upon reaching it he opened the car door and forcefully closed it behind him.
Sanzu stayed out of it, sighing in annoyance as he left the younger Haitani some time to cool off, before they could carry on with the task given by his king.
While all this chaos happened, Ran was in the back seat, knocked out.
And not even five minutes after they were back on the road.
The speedometer showed numbers escalating rapidly, reaching higher digits after mere seconds had passed.
Street lights pass their bright ray on the car bodywork, somewhat trying to clean it from all the shady businesses that they have used it for.
Chase Atlantic blasting from the radio, as the man with the pink mullet sang along the lyrics. Only to be interrupted by the news.
"It seems that the trend of illegal car races came back, California has been full of reports. Especially in the cities of San Diego, Los Angeles and lastly but not least San Francisco."
As the news reporter continued their broadcast, Sanzu lowered the volume as he looked at Rindou before saying.
"Seems like Shion is already at work." He snickered still looking at whom he was speaking to.
While the other guy thought nothing but how idiotic people were to follow a trend, just to be known as some sort of crappy underground superstar. Not knowing how much of a hypocrite he sounded.
He and his older brother did follow the trend of being delinquents too, but they had more style and charm than those scraps.
"San Francisco huh?" He mumbled to himself.
Rindou only knew the city thanks to the books at juvie.
Remembering it's characteristic monuments such as Alcatraz, the ruthless prison known world wide, the Golden Gate Bridge; A red and white vortex that makes you enter a colorful mix of colors and cultures, where cheap and expensive coexist.
These were the words that the author of the book chose to describe the city.
Hanma tomorrow would go there to help Shion, his old gang pal, as the mission given to him by Kisaki wasn't such an easy task.
They should be there just for a few days, just to find a good location out of the public eye, and then be back in Japan without getting noticed.
The police have been on their tails in this period of time, with the help of that damned Toman.
As they reunited the gang, this time to find and bring back Mikey and his fucked up mind. With Takemichi being none other than the leader, yes that's right a weak bitch like him is the top dog.
He was good with words, Rindou admits, but words can't bring you anywhere. Violence must accompany them, at least that's his ideal.
Still he found it hilarious how they believed that with the power of friendship they could bring back his boss, who honestly just needed to be sent to a psychiatric hospital along with his loyal mad dog that was now sitting beside him looking at his phone.
But at least they had the balls to do something he would never do, and that was going against Mikey.
As if it wasn't Sanzu hunting him down for betrayal his subconscio would take his place. Guilt tripping him of leaving Ran alone, breaking the promise they had made at each other from the very start.
He couldn't handle the type of life without anyone beside him, like he had Ran for his entire life.
So running away was, and forever will be just a fantasy.
Since we were into the topic of old friendships, two other old friends were seeing each other right now after many years.
Junpeke, a once lively individual, had become much more tame over the years. His once stylish and edgy haircut was still the same, but his spark seemed to have been lost.
And now he happened to work at one of the many clubs the Haitani owned, he was just a low ranking subordinate of theirs nothing really special.
Still Kazutora found a way to use the position of his old friend in something useful to him, otherwise he wouldn't have bothered meeting him again after all these years.
Both of them not wasting much time, walking though the dark corridors headed straight for a door that was labeled 'Staff Only'.
Once through the now closed door, they entered an area that was most likely a dressing room, as Junpeke immediately got to business, pulling a waiter suit, from the nearby closet handing them to Kazutora.
As the latter changed into them pretty quickly, taking out keys and wallet from the orher pocket of his jacket along with his phone.
"Now that i have completed everything you've asked me for, it's time for you to hold up your end of the deal," Junpeke stated, a smug smile made it's way on his face as he added.
"Give me the money, and you can go and do whatever your heart pleases with Hanma." As if he wasn't in a dangerous situation at all.
"Of course, a deal is a deal after all." Kazutora seemed used to his arrogant behavior as he searched though his jacket pockets, pulling out two rolled stash of twenty five bills worth ten thoused each.
For you folks that don't want to do math, it's basically around four thousand dollars.
Not wasting anymore time the other took it and began to count them.
"What? Don't you trust me Junpeke?" The man with long hair pulled back and tied into a low ponytail asked his former friend, however the ladder didn't respond to him.
He looked around to make sure everything was left as they found it, then both took their leave walking to the door.
Not all bad things come to harm you, and Kazutora had learned one important rule during juvenile detention, and that was; Never let anyone walk behind you, especially when doing shady business.
Of course the ex-juvenile delinquent took this opportunity, knocking his childhood friend unconscious, sending his live location to one of the police officers he had under his command, and carrying the man outside the back exit and dropping him inside a dumpster.
After successfully taking Junpeke out of the picture he went back inside the building, now walking through the corridors that brimmed with sex workers that offered him lustful gazes and sweet chuckles.
He payed them no mind, as they were only doing their job.
Entering the large underground club lounge of the hotel, he was met with a scene of chaos. Music blasted in the background, ladies dressed in vibrant colours and styles moved back and forth, forming a veritable bouquet.
Just as he was taking in the sight, his eyes scanned the various tables as they came across the man he was looking for, he was surrounded by a circle of ladies, as they stuck to him like glue or looked to get closer.
Hanma Shuji, a man with many words for him, but clown was the most fitting, as his lazy smile was exactly the same of a fool.
And Kazutora couldn't wait to wipe it off his face, as it would look better when he will shove him behind the bars.
As if by fate, a tray carrying two alcoholic drinks was suddenly placed in his hands by a waitress, confusing him for a waiter, shouting at him to bring it to the table where the infamous reaper was.
And of course after knowing that how could he not spit into the drink to top it off?
Not a smart idea to do it in the middle of the dance floor, as he was grabbed by the collar from a bulkier man with an angry expression on his face.
If you were at a club and brought a drink, only to see a waiter spitting into one of the same type that you ordered, it would certainly put some doubts in your mind about your own drink.
And since alcohol can often make one's inhibition lower and impulse control harder to manage, it's now wonder that the man got so aggressive in a quick time span with Kazutora.
"Who do you think you are, spitting into drinks like that?!" In the midst of the loud music and partying, the sound of that sudden shout got the attention of those nearby.
As the partygoers turned their gaze towards the source, witnessing the man violently shaking the 'waiter'.
This situation surely ruined the cheerful mood there was in the club, as people didn't know if the accusation was true or simply a misunderstanding.
"If you don't want to give us our money's worth, then don't bother working here at all?!" Kazutora didn't even bother defending himself, he was too busy getting his face sprayed with spit from the angry shouts of the other man.
This whole situation ruined their night, as his voice surely would give the others a headache if this continued.
But one in particular.
And that was Hanma Shuji of course.
Making his way through the crowd of people as he left all the ladies behind, and when he got there he was met with the familiar face of Kazutora.
Seeing his ex comrade getting into a heated confrontation, how could he not intervene to help him? Jokes aside he quickly made his way to the two, putting his hand on the angry customer's shoulder, before saying.
"Now now, what's with all the hoopla?" he asked with a somewhat dismissive tone, taking the situation lightly.
But this seemingly innocuous gesture seemed to spark a fire in the customer, who was now fuming with anger.
"Who do you think you are, you bastard?!" he growled at Hanma, his voice practically dripping with fury. "I'm a powerful criminal, you think you can just go and mess with me like this?" he continued, his rage growing with every word.
Hanma, however, remained unfazed and replied to the customer's threats with a lazy smile, "Or what? What are you going to do? Enlighten me," he retorted, his lazy smile remaining on his face despite the customer's rage.
"Are you challenging me?! I can take you and break you like a breadstick, you lanky beanpole!" The customer shouted, angry at Hanma's continued lack of fear and respect for him.
"You don't seem to be in the right mood, mister." He said before adding "How about you go on a little timeout and drink some water, hm-?" And that was it, the final straw.
Suddenly Kazutora was free, as the man who was gripping on his collar turned to the taller male.
"I'll kill you four eyes!" He shouted, finally snapping.
"Four eyes? Make it six, because from how drunk you are." The other one had enough, and decided to resort to physical violence. As he ran at Hanma, fist ready to punch him hard on the jaw, determined to wipe that lazy smirk off his face.
Still as we all know this was a piece of cake for the reaper, as he dodged the strike with ease. Getting under people's skin was his profession rather than being a criminal, this was routine for him.
Kicking his opponent's feet, making him trip and fall on the dirty dance floor, that from the various partying of the night was all sticky, either from drink spills or obsolete substances.
As the bouncers came and took the man on the floor, as he continued to sprout profanities at the two.
Once the chaos of the situation subsided, Kazutora understood it was his cue to leave and get out of there. His plan being ruined by some drunk bastard.
Hoping to slip away unnoticed, but he was way too positive and confident in his skills not to notice Hanma's hand on his shoulder.
"Not even a 'thanks, old friend?" The familiar voice cut through the air. Even if he was facing the other way, the ex Valhalla number three could feel his ex superior lazy smile.
"Hanma, long time no see," he said, "You've changed quite a bit, and it seems like you've acquired the habit of grabbing people by their shoulders?" He said with one of his best fake smiles he could manage to hide his irritation.
"I could say the same for you," he responded humorously, "you still look as fresh as new! Mind telling me your secret?" With a light-headed tone, he joked about his friend's transformation.
"Oh, y'know. Just grew my hair out a bit," lightly tugging some rebel strands of hair framing his face, "and eleven years of prison did their work." He playfully scoffed.
"You're as sassy as ever, huh?" Hanma replied teasingly, "How about we get some drinks and catch up on the lost time?" Wrapping his slender arm around his old comrade's shoulders, who seemed to not be interested in having to chit-chat.
Ultimately, he accepted the offer, ending it with "Why not?"
Both perfectly knew who the other was, but just for tonight they'll forget it over a few glasses of Mojito.

“Her flowers! Where are her flowers!” Mor shrieked from behind you, pulling your head with her as she turned back with a deathly grip on a chunk of your hair.
“Mor, it’s okay. We still have some time,” you assured her, even though there was only an hour left until the ceremony. With an exasperated sigh, Mor pinned the final piece of hair into place and swiveled your chair around to face her.
She gasped, covering her mouth with both hands. “Y/N, you are…breathtaking.”
Not that you would know. She hadn’t let you see yourself since she started the whole ordeal of getting you dressed and ready three hours ago, promising that the final outcome would be worth the wait.
Tears lined Mor’s eyes as she stepped again to block your view of the vanity mirror. “I would give you a hug, but I don’t want to ruin my masterpiece,” she laughed, dabbing at the inner corners of her eyes.
You gave her hand a tight squeeze. “I love you,” you said, a lump forming in your throat. You cherished your friendship with Mor and couldn’t imagine the past year of your life without her. She had been your rock through everything, along with the rest of the Inner Circle, and your mate.
Your mate.
Soon-to-be husband.
“I still can’t believe you’re getting married,” Nesta said as she entered through the giant white doors leading from the garden of the River House with Feyre trailing behind her. The two sisters and Mor were dressed in matching silk gowns of midnight blue, tiny beaded stars and moons adorning the train that pooled at their feet. Simple, yet devastatingly stunning.
You had asked the three females to be your bridesmaids after the engagement to honor your half-human heritage. They were overjoyed, since mating ceremonies didn’t involve similar traditions.
“Me neither,” you responded distantly as Mor finally moved out of your view of the mirror.
Your breath hitched as you caught the first glimpse of yourself.
A long silk dress, the color of fresh cream, with small flowers and leaves and vines wrapping across your midsection in glistening jewels and sparkling thread. The soft cowl neckline was held up by two thin pearl straps that plunged down the back, allowing your tattoo to be fully displayed, as per Azriel’s request. Mor had curled your hair into loose waves, pinned back with shimmering diamond clips on both sides. The makeup was simple and elegant—your eyes shone under long lashes and gold eyeshadow, and your plump lips were accentuated with rosewood lipstick. Long dangling diamond earrings almost finished the look, but you knew it wouldn’t be complete without your ring.
As you carefully grabbed your engagement ring from the vanity, you reminisced on the most perfect and beautiful week of your life thus far: the day your mating bond was realized, and a few days later, when Azriel asked you to be his wife.
It had been six days of utter bliss—six days since Azriel revealed he was your mate, and you officiated the bond at the cabin. You hadn’t left the cabin since you arrived, and were finally feeling ready to head back home.
“My love,” Azriel muttered against the back of your head, cuddling you from behind as the morning sun crept up over the horizon. You hummed in response, relishing what you knew would be the last moments of peace and bliss you would enjoy for a long time.
“I love you,” he said between kisses, your eyes still heavy with sleep as Azriel made his way out of bed. You groaned in protest, but he assured, “I’ll be right back. Don’t go anywhere,” with another soft kiss.
You snuggled deeper under the massive pile of blankets and throws, awaiting your mate’s return. But he was taking longer than you expected, so you slowly sat up, wrapping a soft blanket around your shoulders.
“Az?” you called out.
“Close your eyes,” he said from the hallway outside your room.
“What?” You laughed, not expecting yet another surprise from your mate.
“Close them,” he said again with his night-kissed voice, so perfect, even in the early morning. You obeyed.
Azriel’s warm, calloused hand wrapped around yours as he pulled you out of bed. “Come here.” You followed as he positioned you in what felt like the living room, judging by the distance he made you walk.
“Az! It’s cold, come on let’s get back in bed.”
When he didn’t respond, you became impatient and finally opened your eyes.
To Azriel down on one knee, a small black box in his hand.
You gasped as your sleep-riddled brain rushed to make sense of the situation.
“Az…”
“Y/N, I’ve loved you from the moment I met you. I knew as soon as I saw you, you were mine. Made for me, just like I was made for you. To spend the rest of our lives together. I don’t know if it was the Cauldron or the Mother or some ancient God that willed our paths to cross. All I know is that I’m forever indebted to whoever brought you into my life. You are my sun, my moon and my stars, my heart and soul and my every breath.”
You sank to your knees, tears rolling as you cupped your mate’s face.
“We already officiated the mating bond, but I want to honor your Mother, your human side.” He opened the small box to reveal the most stunning ring you had ever laid eyes on: a bright, sparkling oval sapphire, the color identical to his siphons, positioned in the center of a thin gold band, surrounded by a halo of tiny diamonds and pearls. You covered your gaping mouth with your right hand as Azriel pulled out the ring and twisted it to reveal a small inscription inside the band. “It says forever. Because you are my forever, Y/N. You are all I need.” Tears lined his hazel eyes. “Will you marry me?”
You pressed your lips against his—your mate, Azriel, the absolute love of your life. You had never known a love so pure, so sweet, so kind. “Az,” you gasped between laughs and sobs. “I love you so much. Of course I’ll marry you.” A shuddering sob went through him as he pulled you into his embrace, wrapping his wings around you. Azriel pulled back to place the ring on your left hand and marveled at the sight.
“It’s perfect. Thank you, Az,” you whispered before kissing him again, this time more passionately. Azriel moaned into your mouth, lifting you from the ground and carrying you back into the bedroom, where he began—
“Are you ready, Y/N?” The excitement and glee in Feyre’s voice tore you from your memories and ushered you back to the present. A quick glance at the clock revealed only a few minutes left until you were to make your entrance.
“Yes.” You squeezed her hand, smiling at your bridesmaids. “You should head out. I’ll be there soon,” you promised, following them toward the doors.
“We love you, Y/N. See you outside,” Nesta said with a quick kiss on your cheek.
You were overwhelmed with gratitude, and said a quick prayer to the Mother for blessing you with the most incredible friends and mate you could’ve asked for.
You grabbed your bouquet off the table by the entrance—a marvelous array of white roses, lilies, and peonies, embellished with sprigs of night-blooming jasmine. A steadying breath helped calm your nerves, but you nearly jumped at the sound of a banging knock on the door.
You were ready to assault whoever was outside with a barrage of curses when you opened it to Cassian and Rhys, grinning from ear to ear.
“Y/N, you look exquisite,” Rhys purred as he sauntered over and kissed your hand.
“You know, I think it’s time Nesta and I have a wedding of our own, if she’s gonna look anything like you do,” Cassian said with a booming laugh, kissing you on the cheek. “You look like a Gods-damned angel ascended from the heavens.” He grabbed a hand and gave you a twirl.
“Thank you, boys,” you said, followed by a sarcastic curtsy.
Rhys offered his elbow. “Shall we?”
Cassian linked his elbow with yours, opposite of Rhys. “It’s time to make an honest man of my brother, Y/N.”
Arms locked with the males you considered your own brothers, and hands nervously gripping the lush white bouquet, the three of you paused at the door until you heard the lilting melody of harps, chimes, and bells from outside—your signal to begin the walk down the aisle.
The doors opened directly to the short path through the garden that led to the gazebo where your mate was standing.
And your heart burst out of your chest as you locked eyes with Azriel.
His black suit was cut perfectly to fit his tall, 6’4 muscled body, fashioned around his massive wings. His midnight blue tie matched the bridesmaids’ dresses, and his black stud earrings glistened in the moonlight against his glowing tan skin. Azriel slicked back his silky dark hair, perfectly showcasing those stunning hazel eyes. Shadows danced and twirled around his feet to the rhythm of the music. He stood with his hands clasped in front of him, and as your gaze met with his, your core began to warm at the waves of love and awe and affection pulsing down the bond. His eyes watered as they met with yours, setting your feet moving towards your beautiful mate.
His essence bloomed stronger in your core with every step—night and sky and shadow, the taste of a salty breeze and morning dew, raw Illyrian power that melded with your own.
It was an intimate ceremony with a few of your family and friends lining the sides of the garden, tossing white rose petals as you walked down the aisle.
And as you reached the end, you near-choked as Madja reached out for your hand, giving it a squeeze, tears lining her eyes. She nodded in approval, and you knew words could never express your gratitude for her.
You halted in front of the alter where Azriel stood to the right, and Feyre, Mor, and Nesta stood to the left. Gwyn looked like a goddess in the center, holding a scroll of ancient wedding prayers, donning an emerald-green gown and a crown of gold ribbons atop her long, silky red hair.
“And who gives this bride to her mate?” she chimed, a playful smile tugging at her lips as she raised a brow at the males on your arms.
“We do,” Cass and Rhys said in unison, beaming as they helped you up the alter steps toward Azriel, who offered his hand. The brothers took their spot behind your mate, and you turned back to hand your flowers to Feyre, finding all three bridesmaids sniffling with teary eyes.
You held Azriel’s hands as Gwyn recited old prayers of love and worship and devotion. In true Night Court fashion, you both decided to get married after sundown, under the open night sky. The stars twinkled brighter tonight, as if they, too, were showing off for the joyous occasion. The light from the crescent moon blended with that of the faelight bulbs, strung across like a canopy, to glaze the garden in an illuminating glow. Bouquets of white roses lined the aisle to the gazebo, which was adorned top-to-bottom in intricate gold lace.
It couldn’t have been more perfect.
Azriel toyed with the engagement ring on your finger while you brushed your thumb along the back of his hand. As Gwyn finished her prayers, she gave a short speech about the special bond between mates and how Cauldron-blessed this fateful wedding was.
You were barely registering her words, wondering if there was any language that had a word to describe what you felt for Azriel.
“Az, do you have any words for Y/N?”
His grip on your hands tightened as he began. “Y/N, my beautiful bride, my best friend, my mate. I thank my lucky stars day and night for you. I cannot imagine living a single second without you by my side.” You had never heard his voice quiver before, raw and tender. Tears slid down your cheeks at his love and affection. “I’ve waited my entire life to meet you, and I would wait another hundred years if I had to. I promise to protect you, cherish and honor you. I will be there for you every step of our journey together, to support you, encourage you, and love you. Every day. For the rest of my life.”
“Azriel,” you breathed. “From the second I saw you, I knew in my very being that we were made for each other. My mate, my match, my equal.” Tears escaped his hazel eyes. “Az, you are kind, considerate, intelligent, beautiful. You make me believe in love, that a story like ours isn’t just a fairy tale.” Azriel leaned down and pressed his brow against yours, his tears dropping onto your chest. “Your sorrows are my sorrows, your joy is my joy. If we fall, we fall wrapped in each other’s arms. I promise to spend the rest of eternity proving to you what a light you are in our world. Wherever we go, we’ll go together.”
You stood pressed against each other, hand in hand, when at last you heard Gwyn say, “Azriel, do you take Y/N to be your wife, to love her, to honor her, to comfort her, and to keep her in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live?”
“I do,” he whispered.
“Y/N,” Gwyn's voice trembled now as tears lined her eyes, too. “Do you take Azriel to be your husband, to love him, to honor him, to comfort him, and to keep him in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live?” choking out the last few words.
“I do,” you managed, face gleaming with happiness and joy.
Rhys stepped forward and handed Azriel two sparkling rings atop a small gilded tray. Azriel slid the solid gold band down your finger, and you did the same, his band identical to yours.
Gwyn chimed, with her voice sparkling like a thousand flutes of bubbling champagne, “I now pronounce you husband and wife.”
Cheers erupted from the garden as Azriel pulled you in, pressing his soft lips against yours for a passionate yet gentle kiss. He wiped your tear-stained cheeks, while you wiped at his.
Interlacing your fingers, you gave him a final “I love you,” before he lifted you in the comfort of his strong arms, the arms that would never let you fall, and carried you down the aisle, a shower of petals covering you both as husband and wife, as mates, two flames merged together for eternity.
You were home.

One Hell of a Love (Book 1) Chapter Twelve
Sebastian Michaelis x Demon! Reader
Chapter Twelve: One Hell of a Doll
Summary: (Y/N) and Sebastian fight a puppet and confront a mysterious puppet master.
Ciel, Sebastian, (Y/N), and Grell ran up the tower stairs after Pluto as he disappeared into the strange building. With any luck (which wasn’t much for them), Elizabeth would be found in the tower and be saved. They finally reached a door, and Sebastian opened it.
The room held dollmaking tools and several abandoned pieces. Materials stood to the sides of the room, each labeled with “iron,” “steel,” “gold,” or other such things. The only colorful thing in the room drew everyone’s eyes. It was Elizabeth in her pink dress, sitting at the side of the room.
“Lizzy,” said Ciel in worry, moving to her. No response. He took her by the shoulders. “Lizzy!”
“It seems we’re too late,” said Grell casually.
“No…” Ciel shook Elizabeth. “Lizzy! Lizzy!”
            Her eyes opened slowly. “Huh?”
            “Lizzy! Thank God!” said Ciel.
“The ring…” said Elizabeth, staring at the new ring on Ciel’s finger. She smiled. “You liked it, right, Ciel?”
The gift. (Y/N)’s eyes softened slightly. The poor girl had just been trying to make up for breaking the original. “Quite the present she had for you.”
“How foolish. Why, for me…” Ciel trailed off.
Suddenly, two forces pulled Elizabeth into the air by her arms. A moment later, a large axe was thrown into her arms.
            “Elizabeth!” cried Ciel.
“No!” cried Elizabeth as whatever was moving her forced her to attack Ciel and swing the axe down at him.
Sebastian grabbed Ciel and pulled him away, but Elizabeth kept coming for them.
            “Stop! Stop! Stop!” she cried.
“(Y/N),” said Sebastian as he held Ciel and dodged.
“Got her,” said (Y/N), moving in front and blocking the attack. Whatever force was controlling Elizabeth forced her further at (Y/N) as the demon held up the attack. “Grell, cut whatever’s controlling her movements.”
“Hm, but I could get cut with that big axe,” sighed Grell.
“Grell,” repeated (Y/N), and she glanced at the demon, sighing dramatically.
“Grell,” said Sebastian, taking the reaper’s attention. He smiled at her. “Please?”
“Are you two asking me for a favor?” cried Grell excitedly. “Well, then, perfect! When we kiss, then, it will be…with tongue!”
“When we what?” (Y/N) raised an eyebrow incredulously. They were about to continue with something alone the lines of “I’ll bit your tongue off instead,” but Sebastian spoke.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he said, “but I can tie cherry stems with my tongue.” Oh, he definitely knew what he was talking about.
“Oh, yes!” Grell nearly flew from how much the image excited her.
“Now that’s something even I didn’t know you were capable of,” said (Y/N). Inwardly, they were having a toned-down version of Grell’s reaction. Sebastian’s tongue? If (Y/N)’s thoughts had been hard to control before…
Sebastian smirked. “Perhaps a demonstration at some point. A lesson for old time’s sake.”
(Y/N)’s head snapped to him. It was rare for a demon to be caught off guard, but having Sebastian Michaelis of all demons say something that could be flirtatious? That would do it. (Y/N) furrowed their brow and looked away again. No, that was just Sebastian being himself.
“To have a bigger weapon than I do when you’re nothing but a little girl…” Grell ran towards Elizabeth holding two pairs of scissors (What happened to her Death Scythe? wondered (Y/N)) “I can’t forgive that.”
“Stop it, Grell!” cried Ciel, worried for Elizabeth.
With two neat snips, Grell finished the job. Elizabeth crumpled to the ground, and Ciel was by her side in an instant.
(Y/N) noticed what Grell had cut and picked it up. “Puppet string,” they said.
“Only a Death Scythe’s edge could be this sharp,” said Grell proudly, brandishing her scissors. “How was it, Bassy, (Nickname)? I’m great, aren’t it? Praise me, praise me!”
“You did alright,” said (Y/N), shrugging.
Sebastian was tempted to chuckle at just how nonchalant they were, just like a cat allowing just a moment of return of affection to a passerby. However, he remained silent on that account and instead looked at Grell, “Amazing, you are most skilled with a pair of scissors, aren’t you?”
“Ah!” Grell preened at the praise of the demons. “It’s a pleasure!”
“The puppet thread leads up…” (Y/N) gazed into the rafters of the tower. The same man from the mansion stood there.
“I reasoned…” said the man slowly before waving his arms. Puppet thread snapped tight around Ciel, Sebastian, (Y/N), and Grell. “…that what I should use to make the doll this time is…”
“Well, what are you made out of?” remarked Sebastian.
“Huh?” The man considered as if that had never occurred to him. “What am I made out of?”
Sebastian smirked. “Yes. From what I can see, it does not appear to be a very strong material.”
“I reasoned that I was supposed to be human. However, lately, termites seem to be falling out of my ears,” said the man blandly.
Sebastian kicked the axe to a standing position, and (Y/N) kicked it upward. It sliced into the man, and the bindings loosened. The man teetered on the rafters.
“(Y/N),” said Sebastian, catching the axe.
He extended a hand, and (Y/N) understood. They leapt up, took the axe, and Sebastian pushes them into a high jump. They swung at the butler, and he caught it between his hands. (Y/N) grinned and thrust down harder. The man fell from the rafters (coincidentally landing on Grell). The man’s head split open to reveal hay stuffing.
“So he was a doll, too,” said Ciel, supporting Elizabeth.
“Drocell Keins,” said Grell. “His soul was seized five years ago. However, for some reason, there was a reaction to his life-force.”
“A fragment of a soul must have been used by someone,” said Sebastian darkly.
“Someone who can manipulate souls?” (Y/N)’s eyes narrowed. Reapers collected souls, demons ate souls, and angels…Actually, who knows what they did with souls, but (Y/N) knew they were one of the only three beings able to use souls in that way.
            “Ciel?” came a faint voice.
“Elizabeth,” said Ciel in relief as she opened her eyes. “Let’s go back to the mansion.”
“I want to have a birthday party for you,” said Elizabeth.
Ciel furrowed his brow for a moment before his gaze softened. “Alright. Pleae celebrate for me.
Elizabeth smiled before falling asleep from exhaustion once more.
“Just relax and rest,” said Ciel. “Everything is—”
“It’s not over yet,” said Drocell’s voice. The group watched as the strawman got shakily to his feet. “I reasoned that I must report to the Master.” He took small, faltering steps towards another door, hay falling from his head with every movement.
“What’s with him?” said Grell. “He’s trying to serve his master even when he’s all messed up like that?”
“I understand him,” said Sebastian. He smirked. “After all, I am one hell of a butler.”
“Master…” Drocell pushed open the door before collapsing, likely completely dead this time.
Ciel leaned Elizabeth carefully against a wall before heading into the new room with the rest of the group. (Y/N)’s eyes narrowed as they took in the sight before them. An ornate chair sat facing a window, and the arm of a figure, the Master, could be seen resting upon it. In front of the chair, Pluto sat curled up, obedient.
“Pluto!” said Ciel sharply. Pluto ignored Ciel and licked the Master’s hand. “Why is he being so friendly?”
(Y/N)’s eyes were catlike slits. The only person Pluto had ever been friendly around like that was Angela. But it wasn’t Angela near them. There was something…different about the Master.
“I do apologize,” said the Master. “My butler was so incompetent he couldn’t even offer a proper welcome.”
“So, you’re the culprit,” said Ciel. “Why are you turning young girls into dolls?”
“Flowers, eras, and people…” began the Master. “Beauty is a fleeting thing. Dollmaking is a blessed art that leaves behind the most beautiful and perfect things in this world.”
“What bad taste,” remarked Grell, and (Y/N) was inclined to agree.
“Why were you targeting me?” demanded Ciel. He pulled the gold ring off his finger. “I have no intention of becoming one of your precious dolls.” He threw it at the back of the chair in a clear declaration.
“Please limit your insolence!” said the Master.
            “What?” questioned Ciel.
“My butler’s head was made of straw,” said the Master. “I cannot fathom why he wanted you. Ciel Phantomhive, you have carried the fate of death since your birth. That body of yours is already unclean.”
Ciel’s eyes widened, and he stepped backwards. “How do you know about that?” he demanded.
“I cannot forgive the fact that something like you exists in this world, unclean, unwanted, and impure,” said the Master. “Almost as filthy as one who would choose impurity. (Y/N) is the name now, correct? Still as unclean as ever, standing there having chosen to be of the filth. Being cleansed would give you a chance at purity.”
(Y/N) narrowed their eyes, which flashed fuchsia. “The Heavens failed to watch over me. The darkness gave me strength. I don’t regret a thing. Your purity means nothing to me.”
Sebastian would smirk proudly at their words, but the Master’s speech to them rubbed him the wrong way, so his eyes remained slits. He didn’t like the Master’s focus on Ciel and (Y/N). They were his, in one way or another.
“Get rid of the unclean,” said the Master, his chair shaking as his words rose in fervor. “Get rid of the unwanted and the impure! Get rid of it! Get rid of it!”
“Stop that this instant!” demanded Ciel, running around to the front of the chair. His eyes widened. It was just a scarecrow.
Sebastian, Grell, and (Y/N) joined him, narrowing their eyes. In the scarecrow’s lap, a tiny puppet stood. Grell jumped and hid behind (Y/N) and Sebastian. The tiny puppet’s mouth split open to reveal sharp teeth as it cackled maniacally. It jumped from the scarecrow’s lap and ran out of the room.
            “Sebastian, catch it!” said Ciel.
“The puppeteer is not in the vicinity,” said (Y/N).
“There are unseen strings attached all around here. They are far from pleasant,” said Sebastian.
Ciel glared out the door. All he wanted was to run after the doll, but for now, the puppeteer would remain a mystery.
l
(Y/N) calmly washed the dishes after Ciel’s birthday party. The ring the Master had given him had appeared in the mansion, which was concerning, but there was nothing they could do at the moment, so they just continued working.
“Hello, Sebastian,” they said, sensing him in the doorway.
“(Y/N),” said Sebastian, stepping up beside them. He took the plate from their hands and put it down.
(Y/N) raised an eyebrow as they looked at him. “What is it?”
“The…‘Master.’ He knew you,” said Sebastian.
            (Y/N) nodded. “Apparently.”
“I believe he has plans for the Young Master and you,” said Sebastian darkly.
“You worry about Ciel, and I’ll worry about myself.” (Y/N) smirked. “I’m a demon, after all. I’m quite capable.”
Sebastian stepped closer, his gaze somber. “He knew your past. That suggests he’s a threat.”
(Y/N) pursed their lips. “I’ve never hidden the fact I had a human life.”
“And yet he seemed to know details. Even I do not know about your human life,” said Sebastian.
(Y/N) scoffed. “The ‘Master’ barely knew anything.”
“He knew something,” said Sebastian. “What is it?”
“Nothing that can affect me now, that’s the whole point,” said (Y/N).
“(Y/N),” said Sebastian sharply, his hand around them on the sink. “Tell me.” I can’t defend them from the Master if I do not know what he is planning. Defend them? Sebastian started. When had he started thinking like that? Had it really gone from attraction to protection so quickly?
(Y/N) narrowed their eyes. They had kept this information private for centuries. Their human life had been left behind when they became a demon. They disliked it having anything to do with their present.
But it was Sebastian. It was Sebastian asking them. It was Sebastian that seemed concerned for them, showing it in a very Sebastian-way.
(Y/N)’s stomach twisted, and they sighed. If there was a single being in the world they could trust at all to not use anything in their past against them, it was Sebastian.
“The Master was referring to my death,” said (Y/N). Their head tilted back, and they stared at the ceiling as their memories returned to them. “When I was dying, I was on the edge of Heaven and Hell. If I had gone peacefully, I likely would have gone to heaven.” Their eyes darkened, and their head dropped to make eye contact with Sebastian. “But I didn’t. With my final breaths I cursed the people around me, wished death and destruction on them. I earned Hell.
“That’s what the Master referenced,” said (Y/N). “I chose Hell. And I have no shame or guilt over my actions.”
Sebastian had thought they couldn’t get more interesting, but he was wrong. (Y/N) had just become more attractive to him for having chosen Hell. Not many mortals had the bravery or stubborn will to do so.
“I would not have you feel any shame. Not when you are a demon of this caliber,” said Sebastian. He took a moment to observe (Y/N)’s minute twitches, the way their mouth turned slightly upwards at the satisfactory praise but their brows furrowed at his openness, and he smirked inwardly before straightened and stepping back.
“Do you think the Master can really do anything with that information?” asked (Y/N), crossing their arms and narrowing their eyes. They didn’t like the idea of anyone trying to make them feel vulnerable. They had fought for millennia to prove their strength.
“I’m not sure,” admitted Sebastian, eyes narrowed in frustration. “But he’s clearly planning something.”
“Well, Ciel is the more vulnerable, so I’d worry about him,” said (Y/N). They turned around and put away the plate they’d been washing. They stepped past Sebastian to the door. Their eyes flashed fuchsia. “I can handle whatever this Master tries. After all, you taught me.” They left the room.
He had. And that’s why Sebastian had gotten attached. That’s why he was going to keep the Master from getting closer to Ciel or (Y/N).

Coercion Chapter Three
So this is my second smut story that I have been working on. I am hoping you all enjoy!
It is a bit dark. Yes, Billy Russo is of course our main character aside from a girl named Cassidy. Who is completely made up and meant to be played by the reader. The other characters that are mentioned in this story are made up as well and not based on anyone in particular. I did this one differently than my first story, but I wanted to switch up my writing style a bit. So you may see more differences in other stories to come. Things that are bold and italicized are thoughts.
Now for some warnings for the entire story but necessarily in the current chapter you read: dark Billy for sure, non-con, dub-con, kidnapping, NSFW, 18+, smut, sex, rape, attempted rape, physical violence, abusive behavior, language. I think that covers it, but sorry if I missed something.
Read at your own risk.

The next morning, as Cassidy slowly opens her eyes, she is met with Billy’s piercing black stare. She lets out a small gasp, not expecting to wake up with him directly in her face. She instantly felt a lump form in her throat and nerves began to take over.
“Good morning.” she whispered shakily.
Billy leans up on his elbow and looks down at Cassidy, “Look, as long as you obey me and do exactly what I tell you to do, I have no intentions of hurting you. In fact, if you’re a good girl for me, I’ll treat you to rewards when you deserve them.”
He was running the back of his hand on Cassidy’s cheek this entire time, feeling almost feather-like with how gently he was touching her. She never broke eye contact and nodded in agreement after he finished speaking. Just as she began to feel the slightest bit of calmness, Billy began to speak once more and took his hand away. Only this time, his tone has become a bit harsh to get his point across to her that he isn’t fucking around here.
“However, if you disobey me in any way, you will be punished. Do you understand me?”
“Y-yes, I understand Billy.”
“Just because I said that I have no intentions of hurting you, does not mean that I won’t if I need to. Got it?”
Cassidy’s heart was pounding, “Got it.”
Billy rolled out of bed and pulled on a pair of gray sweatpants. He turned to face Cassidy and reached out a hand. She grabbed hold of his hand, and he pulled her up out of the bed. She stood still as instructed in one of Billy’s t-shirts while Billy went to get the luggage.
Moments later, he came back through the door with all three suitcases. He sat them down just inside the walk-in closet.
He stepped into the doorway, “C’mon. I’ll show you where things need to go.”
They both stood inside the closet and Billy told her where to put everything. At first, it seemed a bit overwhelming because of the huge amount of space and the amount of items in each piece of luggage. However, once Cassidy began folding clothes, putting shirts on hangers, and organizing Billy’s socks and boxers into drawers, things just began to flow easily.
About forty-five minutes had passed, and Cassidy was almost done with everything. After placing the last hanger with a jet black suit on it onto the bar, she took a step back and marveled in her accomplishment. She decided to do a walk through to make sure everything was perfect and in its place before she would go get Billy from his office to show him the good job that she had done.
Hanging up, Billy’s t-shirts were color coordinated from lights to darks. Next to them came his dress shirts that he would wear under his suit jackets. Then, finally his abundant amount of expensive suits that each had its own clear suit bag to ensure that the suits stay in tip top shape.
Looking inside the drawers that were built into the walls of the closet, were countless pairs of name brand jeans, sweatpants, and basketball type shorts. On the other side of the room in more drawers were his boxers and socks. Above these drawers was a smaller cubby space for more clothes to be hung. This is where Cassidy’s clothes are.
She didn’t have much, only a few dresses ranging from lengths and styles. Some were flowy and more of a summer dress, and others were form fitting and looked very sexy and elegant. Just below the dangling dresses was a shelf where three pairs of panties and a silky nighty lay.
Cassidy went to Billy’s office and knocked lightly on the closed door. She was on edge because she hoped that he would be pleased with the job that she had done. She stood anxiously awaiting for the door to open with her eyes focused on the floor. Moments later, the door began to open.
Billy fully opened his office door, and walked to stand in the doorway. He leaned on one shoulder on the wooden frame and crossed his arms. He gave her a very serious stare. She felt as though he was staring straight into her soul.
Finally the silence broke, “Well? You come to tell me somethin’ or are you just going to stand there?”
She slowly lifted her head and locked eyes with Billy, “I…I just wanted to tell you that I’m finished.”
“Alright, let’s go check out what you’ve done.” Billy said as he stepped out of the doorway and placed his hand on the small of Cassidy’s back.
He guided her down the hallway. She couldn’t help but to be nervous. All she wanted was to please him and not make him angry with her. Billy could feel her body vibrating from nerves, but he said nothing.
Once they reach the closet, they step inside and Billy begins his inspection. He runs his hand along the hanging clothes and opens each drawer to see that every one of them was in pristine shape and to his liking. After several minutes, he turned to look at Cassidy.
He smiled, “Looks good sweetheart.”
Cassidy’s eyes closed and she let out a long sigh of relief, “Thank you, I’m glad you like it.”
He let out a small laugh, “Did you think I wouldn’t? Did I miss something?”
“No! You didn’t miss anything! I’m just really happy that you like it. I wanted to…” she trailed off as she looked to the ground while fidgeting with her hands and biting her lower lip.
“Wanted to what?” he said as he took a step towards her.
She cleared her throat, but kept her eyes on the ground, “I - I wanted to show you that…I can be a good girl for you.”
This pleased Billy tremendously and brought a big grin to his face. He walked up to her and placed his hands gently on her shoulders. He slowly ran his hands down the length of her arms to her hands. He grabbed her hands with his and pulled them up to his lips. She followed their hands with her eyes watching his every move.
He placed a soft kiss on her hands, “How about a small reward then for my good girl?”
She felt her heart flutter and nodded her head, “Okay.”
He led her back into the bedroom where he sat down on the edge of the bed and patted the spot beside him for her to sit as well. Oh God. Breathe Cass. She sat down, and tried to relax, but her mind was racing.
“What’s your favorite kind of food? Billy asked.
Completely surprised by this question, Cassidy grinned, “Um, I like a lot of things, but I really love pizza.”
Billy couldn’t help but chuckle at the answer she gave, “Pizza?! Out of everything you can think of, pizza is your favorite?”
She giggled, “Yes! I could  never have it growing up. So once I moved to the city, that was the first thing that I wanted to try. I was hooked from there. Thin crust pepperoni and Brooklyn style with extra cheese are the best.”
“Okay, pizza it is then!”
“For what?”
“Dinner silly. What? Pizza and a movie not sound like a good reward to you?”
Her heart skipped. Shit! Don’t piss him off now!
She grabbed his hands, “No, it’s not that! I - I just wasn’t expecting it. I’m sorry Billy, I didn’t…”
He stopped her and placed a hand on her face cupping her cheek, “Relax sweetheart. I’m messing with you.”
She huffed out a sigh of relief, “Oh!”
“Alright, let’s go order some pizza and find a movie to watch.” he said as he stood and held out a hand to her.
She grabbed his hand and stood up, “Okay Billy.”
Moments later they were in the kitchen. Billy swiftly lifted Cassidy up and onto the island that was in the center of the kitchen. She gasped at the sudden feeling of the cold marble on the back of her thighs. He stood in front of her and pulled his cellphone from his pocket.
Billy called and ordered two large pizzas. One thin crust pepperoni and one Brooklyn style pizza with extra cheese. Cassidy couldn’t help the wide grin on her face as she listened to Billy order the food.
Once he hung up, he laid the phone facedown on the counter beside her. He parted her legs which made her let out another gasp. After he positioned himself to stand between her thighs, he placed a hand on each of her cheeks and stared into her eyes. He looked a bit more serious right now, and she began to get a bit anxious.
“When the pizza delivery guy comes, you better not try anything.” he said to her in a deep tone.
“I won’t, I promise.” she whimpered.
He took his hands off her cheeks and quickly placed one on her neck, gripping slightly tight, “I’m serious.”
She grabbed his arm as soon as he gripped her neck, “Please Billy, I won’t try anything.”
He loosened his grip on her and took a step back, “Let’s go find a movie to watch.”
He helped her off the kitchen island and they went into the living room. Billy sat at the end of the couch with one arm draped over Cassidy. She sat beside him, and after a few minutes of being tensed up, she finally relaxed against Billy’s side.
As Billy was scrolling through the movies on Netflix, the keypad by the door began to ring. He got up and before walking over to the door, he gave Cassidy a serious look of warning. She knew that she better behave, because she was terrified of what he might do.
Billy typed the code to the gate in and let the delivery guy drive up to the house. He grabbed some cash from his wallet and met the man just outside the door. She could hear the two have a bit of small talk during the exchange, but she didn’t dare make a sound.
He came back inside, pizzas in hand and looked at Cassidy. She was sitting like a statue in the center of the couch with her hands on her knees waiting. Billy cleared his throat causing her to jump a bit and look at him.
“Come here. Help me get some plates and napkins.” he said, motioning her over with his head.
A couple hours passed, and both Billy and Cassidy were stuffed from the pizza. The credits to the action movie were rolling on the television. Cassidy looked at Billy and gave him a big smile.
“Thank you for tonight.”
He smiled back at her, “You’re welcome sweetheart.”
Billy cupped Cassidy’s chin and leaned into her. He gently pressed his soft lips against Cassidy’s. After only a few seconds, he pulled back and opened his eyes to see a tear fall from her eye. She was petrified and had no idea how to react. She looked at him like a deer in headlights. She didn’t know what to do. She’d never been kissed before. In fact, she’s never done anything before.
“What’s wrong?” he said as he brushed the tear from her cheek.
“I’m sorry. I…That’s never happened to me before.” she sniffled.
Billy was dumbfounded, “What?”
“I’ve never kissed anyone before.” she looked down and started fidgeting with her hands again.
“Hey, look at me.” he said softly.
She looked back up to meet his dark eyes, “I’m sorry.”
“Shh, there’s nothing to apologize for. It’s okay. It’s just something that we will have to work on, okay?”
“O - okay.”
“Come on, let’s go get some sleep huh?” Billy said standing up.
She nodded and stood up from her seat, “That sounds nice.”
They left everything sitting in the living room on the coffee table to be cleaned up tomorrow. Billy turned off the T.V. and held Cassidy’s hand as they walked to the bedroom. After changing into her silk nighty, she came out from the bathroom to see Billy laying in bed waiting for her.
Cassidy climbed into bed beside Billy and snuggled under the covers. Billy rolled onto his side facing her and pulled her close to him. Her back was now pressed firmly against his bare chest.
“Listen, you are going to have to get used to me touching you and kissing you, but we’ll go slow with everything. There’s no need to worry alright? Like I said before Cass, I have no intentions in hurting you, especially that way.” he whispered into her ear.
She felt her body untense at his words, “Okay.”
He kissed her head and whispered into her ear once more, “Get some sleep sweetheart.”
