I’m just picturing Theo having a normal day, hanging out in the apartment, when all of a sudden Mabel stomps into view wearing a wedding dress, grabs her coat, and stomps back out, leaving Theo sitting on the couch wondering WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON.

Happy Birthday, Zhongli!
Tumblr media
Director Hu sent me a wallet for my birthday that I could conveniently carry around while attending to matters off-site.
I reckon that paying with Mora from the wallet, as opposed to having shop owners write invoices, grants a more concrete understanding of financial management.
For instance, upon reaching the point where one must part with their last piece of Mora, it is time, then, for one to reflect on their budgetary strategy. Such is the way of finance.
Well, I have procured all items needed. Let's call it a day. Now, would you like to go for a walk with me?
Should you find anything that piques your interest, you can show them to me. It would be my pleasure to explain the stories behind them for you.

A lovely anon sent in a request for the masquerade event so ofc I went and binged the whole thing over a couple of days for it lmao
Still working on getting that written out but while the brainrot's still fresh I wanted to give my gal Mora an event design bc what's not to love about fancy hats and capes?
Also some extra sketches bc Malleus' outfit for the event was so damn pretty and Rollo's hat was fun to draw sdfg Had to draw Mal from memory so don't look too hard.

The Gold Road Reveal and my thoughts on it
I’m gonna start this off by saying I love ESO. I have been playing since 2017 and I’m pretty much doing everything the game has to offer. Quests, dungeons, trials, antiquities, sometimes PvP. That being said, this post will include lots of criticism that I feel (or know) is shared by many other fans.
But first things first, let me start off by listing some of the things on yesterday’s stream that had me bouncing in my seat:
The new zone is absolutely stunning! There’s a lot of variety to it and it does look very pretty. Exploring it will undoubtedly be fun and a feast for my eyes.
Also, Fennorian will be there, so I know there will at least be one well-written character that my Vestige has an actual bond with.
The scribing system being more of a roleplay thing – I don’t know what some people were hoping for, but I’m glad it’s not some Big Damage For Those Who Are Good At Maths kind of system. It still allows for a more unique playstyle, and I suppose it’s going to turn out like always: Do whatever you want in open world spaces, but keep your bow backflip heal out of veteran content.
And maybe the biggest “Yes!” moment of the evening: Ed Stark being the zone lead for Gold Road. While I did not like High Isle as much (too predictable for my taste, but at least it had recurring characters), he was responsible for Greymoor and Murkmire as well. I thought Greymoor was fantastic (good quests, excellent new characters alongside very familiar recurring ones), and Murkmire… well, I think Murkmire suffers greatly from being “the DLC that came after the Daedric Triad” so to speak. It kind of fell into the void created by a storyline spanning a full year (or even more, if you count the setup for the whole thing, which really began with the Varen’s ghost and Darien’s letter in Wrothgar and the Gold Coast sweetroll killer quests). I think that’s why lots of people don’t seem to like Murkmire very much despite it having great storytelling. My point is this: I do have some hope that after the fiasco some recent DLCs were story-wise, Ed Stark will at least make sure Gold Road makes sense.
And now for the criticism.
Ithelia’s design (Whenever, wherever, I want to kill Hermaeus…)
… yeah, about that. As one of my friends put it, she looks like Shakira with wings.
They really could have done so much better. The way she is now, as @akaviri-dovah said, she really just looks like a Meridia clone who somehow stole Jyggalag’s crystals, which is funny on so many levels (more on that later). Suffice it to say that I personally think the design choices are kind of lazy, given that we already have an angelic-looking Daedric lady.
Tumblr media
Also, what’s with this picture? This kinda makes it seem as if she originally looked. Um. A lil different from the way she is now. In any case, I’m just gonna call this a missed opportunity for something more unique. I do like the glass shard aesthetic, I just wish they’d taken it in a different direction.
Dragon Break Princess Ithelia, or something like that
Now I know Dragon Breaks have to work differently from what Ithelia does, but I am kind of wondering what the consequences of her fate-altering abilities are. How do you alter fate in a way that threatens reality (with reality consisting of past and present events, with all possible versions of the future being possibly-real until one actually happens) without altering the timeline? Just by removing a possible future? Then one could argue that any Daedra could do the same just by manipulating people. Granted, it’s possible that Ithelia sees all possible futures and can do whatever she likes with them, but even then, she’d only be influencing what can become reality, not what already is. So how can she be THAT dangerous?
Right now, it just seems to me that they needed an adversary for Hermaeus Mora, and since his big things are knowledge, secrets and fate, and they couldn’t very well make a Daedric Prince of Anti-Intellectualism or a Daedric Prince of Snitching, she had to be a fate-altering type of Daedra.
At this point I’m still wondering how she even works, because how does she not accidentally cause Dragon Breaks? And if she is that damn powerful, how on earth did Mora alone manage to pretty much remove any trace of her? Which kind of brings me to my next point.
Memory Issues
I know, I know, Ithelia is not the first “new” Daedric Prince. (Which makes her stolen Jyggalag crystal vibes rather funny if you ask me.) And I don’t mind her being crazy powerful either, because so was Jyggalag or else he wouldn’t have been cursed. But that, to my knowledge, required several other Princes, whereas Ithelia apparently got owned by Hermaeus Mora alone, who then erased all memory of her. Which is not only quite the feat given how powerful she has to be, but also a very weird thing for Hermaeus Mora to do. I kinda thought stealing memories was more Meridia’s style. This entire part does not quite make sense to me yet and seems a little out of character, but well. By the way, speaking of Meridia…
Meridia-baiting the players
At this point, ZOS have to know we’re getting tired of waiting for villain Meridia. Everyone I know who is even the least bit interested in ESO’s storyline wants to see it. And I’ve seen people get their hopes up in recent days (new Meridia/Dawnbreaker-themed music box, the Ayleid ruin hint on the fragments sent to streamers…). Even in the twitch chat, there were people hyped about what they thought was Meridia, and who were disappointed when they were told it was Ithelia. And yes, I am absolutely saying they did this and made her a Meridia lookalike on purpose. But I’m well aware that we haven’t gotten any new hints about either Meridia or a certain someone since Greymoor, and that chapter will be four years old soon. Even I am beginning to give up, as much as I hate to say it.
By the way, I really did NOT appreciate Matt Firor name-dropping Darien right at the beginning. If you’re not planning to do anything with him, just let it go. I know absolutely nobody who appreciates being fed very tiny hints for two years and then being left in the dark for four years straight. If you don’t want to pick that storyline up again, just stuff the man into the Old Life quest and be done with it.
Honestly, once again, I’m gonna say this is a MASSIVE missed opportunity right here. ESO’s 10 year anniversary is coming up, what could possibly be better than to go back to the roots now and reward all those loyal players with the story they are waiting for? I distinctly recall Molag Bal telling me to watch my step around Meridia, and the setup is all there. I’m honestly disappointed that there is no Meridia content at all. And this ties in with my final point, albeit vaguely.
“Recurring” characters
Ah, yes, we do love recurring characters. Sometimes. We do love it when a fan favorite comes back – a character who’s accompanied the Vestige over the course of an entire story arc or has made multiple appearances over the years and has become beloved by many players, and, most importantly, who is well-written, i.e. has a unique personality. And that’s why “recurring characters” is not always a recipe for success when it comes to getting people hooked on a story.
It is when it’s one of the five companions, or a Ravenwatch member, or your main alliance buddy (Raz, Naryu and – oh, wait, yeah, us Covenant babies don’t have one anymore). It also works when it’s a character we’ve run across several times already, like Alchemy, who I know tons of people love, or my favorite walking disaster Revus Demnevanni.
But it’s certainly not working when it’s a character we barely know anything about, and who isn’t a hit with the community. Like Eveli’s brother whom I had to google because I could not remember who he was. He’s from a prologue quest. Nothing more. That’s not a “beloved returning character”.
ZOS have several of those just lying around, and they’re just not using them. And even the base game had so many characters that were there over the course of several zones, that were well-written and at least memorable to the degree that people would recognize them with just a little reminder, like Indaenir or Holgunn and Walks-in-Ash or the Vanos siblings. Hell, we haven't seen good old Vanus Galerion in a while. They are ten years old now and deserve to be dragged to the surface again.
Okay, I’m done now!
This concludes my rant (because that’s what it is, I’m aware). I just want to say again that this is not be dragging ESO through the mud, this is just me pointing out that the devs (especially the writers) could do so much better if they listened to their lore nerds and story-interested players more.

One Wish [Xiao x reader]
Tumblr media
A/N: Yeah yeah Lantern Rite already passed but who cares. AFTER THE RECENT QUEST (2.7 chasm) I FEEL THE NEED TO WRITE FOR XIAO.
And yes, the last bit is inspired by Tangled (the boat part).
Warnings: Cringe?? Haven’t written in a while.
Genre: A bit of angst at first, fluff (dw happy ending)
--------------------------------------------------
It’s been three weeks, and you still feel awkward around Xiao.
It’s not your fault really... or maybe it kind of is. Either way, you feel like you can’t look at him the same way.
Three weeks ago, you decided to take every ounce of your bravery, and confess to Xiao. You’ve liked him ever since that day at Wangshu Inn. The way he protects you, and keeps his promise by coming just by the call of his name. He even began to walk with you if he ever saw you nearby. It was difficult to keep your feelings to yourself for so long.
However, Xiao didn’t have the positive reaction you expected.
He went on about how mortals like you shouldn’t be close to him, and how his karma is harmful and all that. You heard him say this countless times before... so why is it that this time it hurts so much more?
You cried yourself to sleep that night. You felt pathetic. It wasn’t his fault, you weren’t sure if he knew the concept of dating in the first place. But he could at least consider it right?
It didn’t matter, or so you tried to convince yourself. And you get it, you really do. You can’t force him into something like this. So today (three weeks from that day), you still try to forget it and move past it. But there’s something that seems to give you trouble with doing that... or more like someone-
“You’re going the wrong way.”
Yes. Three weeks from then, and Xiao still walks with you. Well, the first week he didn’t, but mostly because you stayed at the Inn, sniffling and eating a lot of desserts to calm yourself (Smile Yanxiao was concerned for you). But after that you started going out again and doing your regular traveller duties. And Xiao came along too... which didn’t help with your feelings towards him.Today you happened to be coming from Dihua Marsh on your way to the harbour for the Lantern Rite.
“Oh, sorry.” you say realizing you were slowly drifting from the path you were walking. Yeah, it was very awkward. And moreover, making it hard for your heart. You didn’t really know how to act around him anymore, but you tried being normal. You hope he didn’t catch on how you still felt.
“Are you going to the Lantern Rite?” you asked, trying to make small talk as Liyue Harbour came into view.
“No.” he said bluntly. You were disappointed, but gave a slight “mm” in response. Little did you know, that “mm” made Xiao suddenly confused. You always asked him if he was going to the Lantern Rite, or any other festival. You always begged him, bribing him with things like almond tofu trying to make him go with you. Whined every time he declined with his arms crossed. And you understood that he disliked crowds, though you proposed you could watch the lanterns from afar. But this time was different. You didn’t fight back.
“We’re here.” you say, interrupting his thoughts. Xiao realized both of you were at the bridge already. It was the afternoon right now, but you came at the right time. In a matter of a few minutes the sun will set, starting to create a beautiful scene for the bright lanterns.
“Well, I’m going to go to Wanmin restaurant to meet up with Xiangling.” you announce, turning to face him. Though, you still couldn’t look him in the eye. “Happy Lantern Rite.” you say softly with a little wave.
“Be safe.” he said. You paused for a moment. You found it strange that he didn’t immediately disappear after saying your farewells. Nonetheless, you turned and started walking towards the harbour.
≿————- ❈ ————-≾
“Y/N! Happy Lantern Rite!” Xiangling jumped and embraced you.
“Hi Xiangling, happy Lantern Rite.” you replied, returning her hug.
“C’mon let’s go! Xingqiu and Chongyun are already waiting for us at the stalls!” she exclaimed, taking your hand and running to where the boys were.
You and your friends enjoyed the Lantern Rite with the pink and orange sunset in the background. You took lots of pictures with your Kamera, and ate lots of food from the stalls. The four of you (and Guoba) played games, and watched Yunjin and Xinyan’s performance. It was nice to spend time with your friends.
This year, the Lantern Rite included small boats you could paddle out into the sea to make your personal wishes and release your lantern. You, Xiangling, Xingqiu and Chongyun got yourselves a lantern and got to the boats.
“Whoa! Paddling a boat is kind of hard.” said Xiangling, seemingly going in circles.
“You’ll get the hang of it.” Chongyun said, bumping her boat to help push her farther. Xingqiu giggled and beckoned you to follow.
By now, it was dark. With you guys paddling away from the harbour, there was no light other than your lanterns. Once you went far enough, you set the paddles down and let your boat drift around slowly. You looked at your friends, smiling and holding their lanterns ready to be launched.
“They’re going to release their lanterns any minute now.” Xingqiu pointed back to the city. “Let’s get ready to make our wishes.” Xiangling and Chongyun nodded in response. You began to do the same. What did you want to wish for?
I wish I could be normal around Xiao.
No that wasn’t it.
No. You knew what you really wanted. It felt absurd though. You just wanted to spend one Lantern Rite with him. He didn’t even have to reciprocate your feelings. After he does go, you think you can finally get over this.
“I wish... I wish Xia-”
“Yes?”
You yelped, making the boat flail and slosh a little in the water. You clutched your lantern, shocked at what you saw before you. Those golden eyes looking right at you, his figure crouching on the other side of the boat.
“U-um...” you mentally curse yourself for sounding so weird. You couldn’t tell what Xiao was thinking right now, but you internally panicked. Did he come because you called his name? How embarrassing, thinking about having to explain to him that you were making a wish... about him.
“I want to make a wish too.” he finally says after a long silence. He put his hand out, which you gave your lantern to him for a brief moment. He took the lantern in both hands, lightly putting his forehead on the corner. He really did seem to be making a wish, you thought.
The truth is, he noticed. He noticed the smile you try to hold, when something was wrong. He noticed the way you avoided looking at him by looking at the ground instead. He noticed that night when you cried yourself to sleep. He thought that distancing himself from you was for the better. But he realized that the worst thing wasn’t a monster hurting you. It was him hurting you.
Which is why he won’t wait another Lantern Rite. He never was one to pray to the gods, or make wishes, but just tonight he does. He wishes he could go back and rethink his words, or try and understand from a mortal’s perspective, maybe even ask Zhongli. But for now, he wishes you will forgive him.
Thus, he decides he won’t make you wait another Lantern Rite either. Before you know it, he’s leaning forward, his hand moving to cup the back of your head, just above your neck. Your lips move softly in sync with his. It was short, but sweet. When you both pulled away, you were met again with his beautiful eyes, which reflected the light of your lantern.
You instantly leaped to Xiao, almost pushing him back with a hug. You were ready to stop until you felt his hands lightly embrace you back.
“Did you make your wish?” he asked. You realized the citizens at the harbour are already beginning to release their lanterns. You couldn’t contain your smile anymore.
My wish already came true, you wanted to say.
“Yes.” you said happily after sitting back in your seat. You both took one hand to hold the lantern, then raised it high enough for it to float away with the rest.
Once you were out at sea for long enough, you told your friends you were going to go home, and you said your goodbyes and see you tomorrows. You walked back to Wangshu Inn with Xiao, choosing to share an almond tofu together on the balcony.
You were tired, Xiao could tell. He watched as your eyes were fighting to keep themselves open while spooning the tofu in your mouth. It was almost midnight, but the lanterns could still be seen as little specks floating in the far distance.
“Xiao,” you whisper just about to fall asleep. “I’m happy.”
Your head falls on his shoulder while standing. He’ll have to carry you to your room later. For now he admires you, and in awe of what you said. “I’m happy.” Yet another thing that is not often said around him, nor is it something he ever says. But this time, he thinks, he’s happy too.

This one local optometrist's office downtown has a bunch of giant inflatable tentacles and eye decals stuck all over their windows right now, and I know it's just Halloween decorations, but when I saw that all I could think about was Hermaeus Mora going in to get his eyes checked 💀
i just imagine him hovering above the chair in the exam room, going off on some long, slow, cryptic tangent about knowledge & fate, and the eye doctor's just standing there exasperated like "...sir, please, for the last time— which looks clearer, 1 or 2" and he hesitates for a sec like "...can you show me 1 again"
