You barely had time to breathe when you inevitably noticed the utter severity of your circumstances. Shiver travelled down your spine, your body tensing up in fear of what seemed like it would result in death with one trivial mistake. After all, you were unfortunately aware of the sheer overwhelming number of the agents surrounding you- ten of them as you could see.
"I must say I'm put off by the lack of honor. What could the Fatui want so desperately from a mere Liyue citizen that ten of you come ambushing a single target?" You scoffed at the lack of reply, all that they provided was condescending giggle from some. Clearly, they seem to be perceiving your abilities and words as no more than a pest.
A small voice at the back of your voice demanded- call him. Call his name, you know he'd come for you.
One moment filled with hesitation slipped past your fingertips- there was always possibility of him being preoccupied. Perhaps you could fight them off alone, then find means of escape. You couldn't always rely on him, could you?
Then another moment past, your thoughts were left unanswered as the agents came charging at once. You desperately tried to fight off the ones who came in offense. Holding your stance and defense was the best you could do against them, and even that was proving to be a threatening task. Your stamina was already running low from returning from a lengthy journey, not to mention your electro energy having difficulties breaking through the shields of some.
The voice called out again, this time with more desperation- Call him! You can't last against them, they outnumber you!
You used a significant fraction of your remaining elemental energy and released a shockwave, knocking away the ones close to you to regain gap enough to at least call for Xiao. With half the mind to finally realize your current state was incapable of holding all of them off, your grip on your weapon tightened.
As soon as you could, you opened your mouth and tried to call out for him, only for you to realize moments too late that a pyro agent in front had finished preparing his slash, and was dashing towards you with full speed. Your mouth went dry, eyes wide from fear, panic and- there won't be enough time, not even Xiao could possibly arrive faster than a blink of an eye-
Then your vision went dark.
Temporarily.
All you could remember was a wisp, and then a furious, murderous force of wind knocking away the Fatui agent in front of you. Your body was swept into someone's arms, holding your trembling body with a tight grip. Even without opening your eyes, you could feel the familiarity in his scent, his protective hold on you. You opened your eyes and whispered his name while yearning for nothing more than his blazing warmth enveloping your figure. And judging from your shivering body, the fear from a near-death experience remained very much evident.
"The information was right, we have to report it back to Lord Harbinger!" One of the cicin mages yelled out, signaling the others to escape. With one slash of his polearm, Xiao silently saw to it that the ones attempting to leave were... hindered. The mastery of battle arts he possessed was definitely a sight to behold, you had to admit.
The hand wrapped around your waist tightened, Xiao's mask glowed in an eerier dark color than you remembered. His fury, bloodlust and wrath was almost visible to bare eyes- the air growing thicker each passing minute. Xiao made the slightest of movements, and he was keeping the Fatui agents unable to escape, yet still wounding them little by little. Almost as if he was deliberately taking his time.
You flinched slightly when a cicin mage let out a bloodcurdling scream from whatever blow Xiao landed on her, you avoided looking at them when you could. Xiao surely then, noticed your uneasiness with the sight of blood.
Placing you on the ground gently, Xiao ripped out a long strip from fabric on his sleeve. With incredible amount of stone-cold calmness, he wrapped the fabric around your eyes, like a blindfold.
"Don't move and keep the fabric on your eyes." Even with your sight obscured, you felt calm since Xiao was there with you. As long as he was there, you knew no harm would come. You nodded, silently remembering once again that he could have easily ended the battle the moment he arrived. That he could have swung his spear with one precise blow and possibly ended all of their lives with no more than a lift of his finger. You gulped, since it left only one option as to why he had been taking his time with them. Perhaps he did not see the reason why as to their death should be quick and clean.
Surely enough, their voices did not quiet down as fast as you expected. Your brows furrowed in slight discomfort from how some sounded like they were pleading for mercy, and then the eerie silence following. Stopping Xiao didn't seem like an option, however. After all, you imagine you too, would finish someone off yourself if they had threatened Xiao's life.
Amidst your thoughts, you noticed that it had finally fallen silent around you. When you reached for the fabric around your eyes, Xiao's gloved hand prevented you from taking it off.
"Keep it on." I don't want you to see this brutality- this evil I'm bound to commit as long as I walk this earth. Xiao's thoughts echoed silently inside the safety of his mind, the idea of you being frightened by him leaving a bitter taste in his mouth.
To you, Xiao's voice sounded ambiguous, like he wasn't even sure on how he felt then. The both of you struggled to find words to say when he lifted your body with ease (being an adeptus, this proved itself to be an action of utmost ease to him), and teleported to where you expected to be your familiar room in Wangshu Inn.
Your vision slightly wavered from the sudden light when Xiao slowly pulled the fabric off your eyes. When your sight cleared, there stood Xiao, amber eyes fixated on scanning from your head to toe for signs of injuries. Surely enough, minor ones were bound to be left behind.
"You're hurt." You two murmured at the same time to one another. You referred to the slight cut on his forearm, a small one that you imagine is stinging like hell at that point. Xiao's brows furrowed as he kneeled down and slowly caressed your calf. You hadn't even noticed the slight scrape on your lower calf, it didn't hurt at all.
"It's fine, I can't feel anything really." You tried to comfort Xiao, but his expression visibly fell somber.
"Did you kill them?" In an attempt to divert his attention from your scrape, you managed to ask him the question in slight curiosity, slight concern on what his answer would be. After all, if he had really killed them, would that be a diplomatic problem for Liyue and Snezhnaya? They were usually regarded as diplomats, after all.
"I don't fancy murdering humans." Noticing your concerned expression, Xiao replied curtly. His sullen expression never changed.
"Why didn't you call out for me?" His voice was eerily grim, cold. The tone he used cut through your heart like a knife, and perhaps you deserved his brusque attitude after what you got yourself into.
"You didn't call my name, not once. What were you thinking?" Xiao's voice got louder as he spoke, roaring and demanding answers from you. You had never seen him like this, absolute fury burning in his eyes, his grip on your ankle grew tighter as well. You avoided looking at him, squirming in what felt like regret, the discomfort making your stomach drop.
Xiao's heart was beating too loud, too fast for his liking. Just the mere thought of your helpless expression when that lowlife attacked you, how your mouth fell open and no sound left them, all of what he had seen sent a bloodcurdling feeling of terror, horror through his veins. Heavens, he was about to lose you. On the land he was sworn to defend. The events flashed in his mind like a rewound tape, Xiao clutched his shirt in frustration and lack of awareness on how to control this swarm of unsettling emotions.
"I saw it, the hesitation in you. Do you- lack faith in me that much?" Xiao's golden eyes glistened in what looked like conflict. His mind raced with millions of thoughts, what if he had lost you there? What if he wasn't there around the area? What if he didn't make it in time? He gritted his teeth, the realization that mere swift connection of coincidence and luck were what allowed him to save you today made his blood boil. Not from you calling his name, just because coincidentally he happened to be around the area. Otherwise... he refused to think further if things were otherwise.
"...I'm sorry, Alatus. I really am." You didn't have any other words to say, fully shouldering your irresponsible, immature thoughts of solving the problem alone that had almost cost you your life. You kneeled down as well, and grabbed Xiao's hand. Slowly slipping off his gloves after seeing that he didn't seem to mind, you held his both hands in yours in an attempt to calm him down. You were holding his hands in yours, skin warm, alive and breathing in front of him. This was the least you could do.
Xiao half-hated how you managed to calm his racing thoughts and heart with a mere touch of your skin. It made him feel vulnerable sometimes, but today he didn't have the privilege to question such trivial matters. As he once again glanced at your slight scrape that looked like it may start bleeding, he suddenly remembered how you looked when he came to your rescue. Trembling like a leaf, your eyes avoiding the sight of blood- blood he unfortunately was too used to. The sight, smell, texture on his skin or clothes, everything about it was nothing unusual for the vigilant yaksha. But just then in his arms, Xiao painfully remembered how you tremble even in his hold. Blood scared you, murder, death, violence... they all scared you. Of course it would- he had half the mind to remember that you were a fragile mortal. You should be scared of them, naturally. But does that not mean that you were bound to be scared of him, too?
Once again, Xiao's rational mind failed to function for once. His golden eyes only held his instincts as far as you could see.
“I love you.”
Your eyes widened at Xiao's words. You had scarcely ever heard those words from him before. Even if he did say it, he would normally whisper in a tone quieter than the calm nocturnal breeze, as if he didn't even want you to hear him. But just now, he-
"I love you." Once again, Xiao repeated with the same voice, unwavering, almost confident tone in his confession.
The moment your eyes met, his breath is on yours in a heartbeat, lips molding against one another like second nature. You shivered slightly when he pulled you closer by cupping your face with two shivering hands, his slightly calloused bare hands always felt pleasant on your skin. Amidst your relief and blood rushing to your head from the overwhelming emotions, Xiao whispered the precious words of oath tenderly again. Once and twice more, you lost count with how intensely he embraced you in his warmth.
“I love you.” Again, he whispered against your lips. You sighed into the kiss, slightly taking notice of his vocal tone- you were certain you had never heard this hopelessness? want? from his normally monotonous voice before. He sounded so... expressive. Just as you tried to reply, your chance was stolen again with how desperately he clung onto you, his kiss mesmerizing as always.
In the heat of the moment, Xiao pushed you to the bed, not parting your connected lips and laced his fingers with yours. You barely managed to gasp into the kiss when he firmly pressed- or rather, slammed your slightly-trembling hands to the mattress. After he pulled away from the kiss reluctantly, he took a few moments gazing at you. You couldn’t help but frown at his complex expression whilst he lightly caressed your body under him. His amber eyes were as radiant as they were in your lovestruck daydreams.
Leaning in closer, Xiao took a moment to rest his head in the space between your neck and shoulder. His tense body visibly relaxed against the warmth of your body while trying to steady his shaky breath to listen to the sound of your heartbeat better. After all, you were okay. God, after all the chaos that struck, after everything that happened- you were okay, you were with him… alive underneath him. He thought he lost you. He saw you- He- He saw all too clearly how you gazed at him. He saw the look in your eyes with gaze full of fear, panic when you couldn't even manage to whisper his name for one last time and- fuck, his mind clouded over with wrath, disappointment, and concern again-
You noticed how his face almost grimaced, eyebrows furrowed in deep concern and worry. With how tightly he was holding you, pressing his lips, kissing every inch of your skin he could, it was hard not to notice. With a deep sigh, you lightly pulled your hand away. Your original intention was to caress his cheeks to calm him down as little as you could.
“Xiao- ”Well, at least attempted to before Xiao’s eyes shot open and slammed your hands back down again.
“Don’t.” You took a sharp breath and stared at him with wide eyes at his sudden actions, making his expression soften once more apologetically. Even if he didn’t verbally express it, you knew how hard he tried to treat you gently, kindly as mortals expressed.
“… Please. Let me feel you.” You relaxed and caressed his hand holding yours with your thumb, taking notice of his pleading gaze. It was ultimately your fault too, endangering your mortal self as he criticized often. You gulped and pushed away the frightening thoughts of what could’ve- what was about to happen if Xiao hadn’t sensed you- if Xiao had arrived merely a millisecond later than he did.
Xiao's entwined fingers pinned your hands down deeper as he placed chaste kisses on your neck. You couldn't help the sigh of pleasure, his lips simply scattered what seemed like innocent kisses on you. Your relaxed state changed when he started sucking, greedily inhaling your scent and nibbling on your sensitive skin. Even the smallest scrape of his sharp fangs made your back arch, whining in his ear for more.
The concept of leaving marks on your lover's body never appealed to Xiao much. When he saw you, his eyes always adored how pretty your skin looked, clean, unbruised and unhurt. The body he worshipped and loved more than anything, he frankly did not understand why leaving bruise-marks were desirable. Until now.
"X-Xiao?" You noticed how he was attempting to leave hickeys on purpose, to your surprise. This is new. He pulled his hands away from yours and instead placed one on your shoulder, other gripping your jaw to offer him space to leave his marks.
"Stay still." His authoritative tone sent a wave of arousal through your body, more so when Xiao sunk his fangs around the hickeys forming on your neck. You couldn't help but notice how restless Xiao was today, his actions and kisses all felt desperate, needy.
"You're beautiful." While you were overwhelmed with how his hands were pulling at your clothes and barely wasting any moment to dive right back into worshipping your body. Every inch of you was his to mark, kiss, and adore. Even tarnish, if he pleased. A twisted sense of pride overtook his senses.
His hands felt incredibly warm against your burning skin, every inch of you yearning to feel more of Xiao. His hands explored your body, caressing, grabbing and undressing as he saw fit. Your hands also moved on its own to undress him, revealing his toned chest, a pretty sight to behold. As soon as you were done with taking off his clothes, he pushed you down again, lips planted onto yours in a shared vigorous kiss. A fresh sense of arousal flared through your body from how different he was today, he wasn't as careful and gentle as he was. No, he was commanding, desperate, needy and... And you liked it a little bit too much perhaps.
"Xiao..." You suddenly felt unable to wait any more, you needed to feel him inside. Peppering kisses down your body, he hastily pulled at your trousers and underwear, then gazed at you from in between your legs. The sight alone had your breath hitching in excitement.
"I- I can't take it anymore, can you..." You found yourself stumbling over your words when Xiao's warm tongue licked a stripe on your inner thigh, peppering soft kisses towards your glistening cunt. He ran his fingers over your heat, faintly reminded that your wetness was a proof on how much of an effect he had on you. Xiao's sight was fixated on your expression as he left love bites on your inner thighs as he did with your neck, his amber eyes darkened in insatiable lust. The similar pride from earlier clouded his senses each time your face twisted and moans left your puffy lips.
Pride. Yes, that's what he felt. After all, only he could do this to you, make you feel this way- Make you his.
Your eyes fluttered open when you heard rustles of Xiao taking off his remaining clothes. His normally neat hair was slightly messy, radiant golden eyes much darker and clouded than your memory serves. He pressed your foreheads together, leaning in as close as he could. Your warmth calmed him down, perfect body molding so prettily in his hands.
"I love you." Your heart swelled with a swarm of emotions from how vocal he was. Finally for the first time today, you had the chance to reply.
"I love you, Alatus." You circled your arms around his shoulders, attempting to feel him closer. That was all he needed to hear.
Your mouth fell open when Xiao sunk his length into your cunt, your nails digging into his shoulders in desperation. The dull pain mixed with the pleasure of being stretched open clouded your senses, your body tightening around him in natural response. Almost immediately when he pushed all the way in, both of you let out a sigh of pleasure.
When he finally notices the relaxing in your muscles and perceives your comfort, Xiao begins moving against your heat. With every thrust, your cunt seemed to suck him in as he dragged himself out to the very tip, then slamming it back in. Your cheeks felt hot to the touch when lewd sounds of skin slapping and mattress not-so-subtly creaking filled the room. Two bodies burning with desire, love and lust, your vision went hazy form the overwhelming emotions and physical pleasure. Before you could tell, you had absolutely zero control over your voice as you let out the embarrassingly loud moans spill despite your attempt to restrict it.
Xiao's burning gaze never left your face, your eyes and how your body reacted to him. His brain short-circuited, entirety of his thoughts were screaming - (name). (name). (name). He greedily observed, drank in your body’s reaction to him. If this is how he can make you look and sound- He wanted more.
"You're so beautiful..." Xiao molded his lips against yours as soon as the words left his mouth, sucking on your tongue in a needy manner. His quiet moans escaped into the kiss, along with your gasp when his hands hold onto your waist and slams harder into you. His pace remained stable, yet his forceful, deep thrusts sent shocks of pleasure through your body. When he proceeded to grind lewdly against your core, your voice trembled as a high-pitched moan was ripped out of you. Xiao noticed how your body tensed up, amber eyes observing you in a lust-driven stare. The higher he realized he could take you, the greedier he became for your pleasure.
You were acutely aware of Alatus' gaze on you, his stare was never subtle to start with. The hungry look in his eyes, the way he had his way with your body, he didn't even look like he was fucking you into the mattress for his own pleasure. In fact, his eyes darkened, pace got faster each time your moans got louder. Your pleasure was his greatest oasis- to a man starved to quench his thirst.
"I'm all yours" You managed to form the words that's been lumped at your throat for the entirety of today. Xiao's eyes briefly glossed over in pleasant surprise.
"I'm yours, Alatus. I love you, I love you so much." You ran your fingers through his hair, gazing into his eyes. He looked the prettiest on top of you like this.
Suddenly like a switch flipped in his head, Xiao grabbed your hands and resumed his hard, deep thrusts. Only this time, the pace got faster as each moment passes by. Your mind couldn’t focus on anything else other than the sweet sensation of his thick cock filling you to the brim and forcing out sounds you didn’t know you could produce. When he dragged his veiny cock over your sensitive spot, you shuddered at the feeling.
With each moan he heard from you, the hazier Xiao's mind became. You were with him for life, you loved him as he did you. Your hearts were one and you were his- his, his, his. All his.
As the possessive thoughts flooded his senses, Xiao grabbed onto your hips harshly and started moving your body in response to meet his thrusts. The way he forced his raw cock, used your body to freely match his pace sent a flare of heat through your body, the arousal coating Xiao's cock almost starting to drip onto the sheets.
"Y-You like this." Xiao's voice trembled subtly in sight of pleasure, yet his authoritative tone withheld. You nodded vigorously, unable to form coherent sentences without stumbling over your words.
"Tell me what I can do- more to make you feel better" Your pussy clenched around his cock even more when he asked so adorably how to please you. Pulling your hips against his even harder, you noticed his set-pace faltering as his orgasm approached rapidly.
"I'm already really close-" You managed to reply and reached out to rub your clit against his movements. The moment you started flicking, circling your clitoris, an electric feeling of pleasure made you moan out loud, your vision slowly fading to white. Trails of fire was threatening to break loose in your lower stomach, your high approaching. With a violent shudder, your orgasm hit you hard, like a wave of burning flames taking over your figure.
The sight of you so desperate for him was what sent Xiao over the edge. His beautiful, beautiful lover, all his under him. His own eyes glossed over in pussy-drunken state, he couldn't stop his hips, he just couldn't go another second without the intoxicating feeling of your warmth squeeze around him. Your body twitched from the dull aftershocks of overstimulation, yet you still wanted more. So did Xiao.
You see, the more he indulged in his pleasure-driven force, the greedier Alatus felt. All he wanted was more, more of you, more of your body, pretty moans, and this overflowing emotions, warmth in his chest- (love).
I want you, I want all of you- Xiao wanted to whisper into your ear, repeat it until you finally realized how desperate he was for you. Perhaps it was beyond greedy to desire more of you while fucking you, but it was of no importance. From how tight you squeezed around him when you came so prettily, all of the memories and your beauty overwhelmed him- and just as he drank in your overstimulated sight, Xiao's movements went tense. His cock pulsated inside you, and you gripped the sheets in an attempt to keep what little shred of sanity left in you. Both of you panted, basking in each other's afterglow.
With an endearing look in his eyes, Xiao leaned in closer to claim your lips once more. You smiled into the kiss,
and the rest was history.

cold hands ft. xiao
cws: crushing! xiao, wintertime, established friendship, requited feelings, hand holding :O, girl used as a gender neutral term, ooc possibly
masterlist
winter in liyue is sure getting colder than it used to be. although, he is supposed to protect the city from any harm, he is afraid that he'd be in harm from the winter breeze. his sleeveless shirt doesn't help either. shuddering from the cold, he blew on his hands to try stay warm.
he stood tall on the boulder, laying his polearm to rest. though he was cold and tired, he had to stay alert.
the wind whispered to him. someone's calling him.
xiao!
the voice was faint but he knew exactly who was calling him.
XIAO!
he's coming! don't worry!
what he didn't expect was you were calling his name to ...
stay warm?
he leaned against your wooden walls, the small fireplace is doing its job of keeping you warm, besides from that, you're wrapped in multiple blankets. "name, please refrain from calling my name for situation like these." he said.
he said it like this had happened before. well...
it had... like once. numerous times. so many times to a point you would have to ask a dozen of people to hold up their hands and feet.
after he finished fighting off mobs near the hotel, he heard your voice and teleported to you on the spot. only to see you asking him to turn off the tv, asking for a hug or stay with you. he does do that until someone else calls for him though. so maybe... it's all his fault for answering. you wanted ot argue if he knew it was you, he shouldve ignored it and waited for someone else.
but.. you knew the outcome of asking that anyway. he wouldve scolded you because not only he would protect any citzen or visitor in liyue, you are also his friend, why wouldn't he?
"im cold and you're cold and i know people wouldnt call you during this time. kill a girl for using resources." you replied, shrugging in your blanket burrito.
he smiled but you could tell it wasn't a happy one but it wasn't a disappointment smile. so you considered it as a win. you two held a staring contest but both of you knew the outcome. (you would win). his elf ears twitched as he let out a dramatized, exasperated sigh,
"name."
"xiao." you chirped in a sing-song tone.
"please."
out of nowhere, you asked, "can you warm up my hands please? it's so cold." it stopped him in his tracks as he cocked his head,
"what?"
"please??? i promise that i wouldn't misuse your call ever again."
"you said that last time." he replied but he sat next to you anyway. you draped over a blanket over him. he looked at you, pink dusted on his ears,
"um. i triple promise." he held your hands with his.
his hands were much colder than yours but you accepted it regardless. he brushed over your knuckles as you felt goosebumps.
from the cold?
"you said that too."
right? is your face getting hotter? maybe you're getting a fever. he looks so pretty. his face looks like almond tofu. his amber eyes are reminding you of the stars in the moonlit skies.
are you hungry too?
"i swear on... our friendship!"
maybe because this is definitely not because you have a massive crush on your friend.
"you better not break that promise." he replied, looking you as if you would. you nervously laughed as he held your hand.
"mhm!" you hummed back, playing with his fingers.
after you fell asleep, by then, xiao would disappear into the night, slaughtering more hillichurls by the time the sun rises. but this time, he'd like to stay with you, watching you sleep as your hands stayed intertwined.

Dang It.
Xiao x M!Reader
Warning! Modern AU! You and Xiao live in the same house. You're some kind of a CEO of a company.
—You were sick, but didn't tell anyone. Not even you boyfriend.
NOTICE !! If you're female and feel comfortable reading for male reader then I do not mind at all.
Tumblr media
" I'm home.. " you said as you walked inside of your apartment. You could hear a pair of footsteps coming near, you hanged your jacket and opened you arms to the sides. A smaller figure hugged your body, his arms wrapping around your waist.
" Welcome back.. " his voice was muffled beacuse of the shirt you were wearing. His body felt so cold against yours and you were really happy about that. Your head was spinning, and you felt hot but cold at the same time, making you lose your balance sometimes.
" You're late. " your boyfriend, Xiao, he could get angry at you beacuse of the smallest things but you knew it was beacuse he worried about you so much.
He had already pulled away from your hug and started pouting, he noticed you were leaning on the wall for support but didn't say anything.
" I know, I'm..so...so sorry my love. I know you wanted to have dinner today but...the company is so—difficult..these days." you said while going inside, you stopped your sentences at some point beacuse you felt like there was some kind of ax was cutting your head.
" You could've call me. I was waiting for you for the past 30 minutes. If you couldn't call then you could just texted me, you're really irresponsible sometimes Y/N " Xiao then went to the kitchen to warm up your dinner, you could tell he was upset and you tasked yourself to take him to a fancy dinner next week to make it up.
As you were trying to get out of your work clothes, your head throbbed again. It was getting a little to much, you were sweating and feeling so cold at the same time. Did you overwork today? Feeling sick was not like a 'you thing'.
You leaned on the wall for support, the room was spinning. Oh god, you had a meeting to attend tommorrow. This was bad, what will you do?
You dropped a cup that was on the table near you, luckily it didn't break. You leaned down to take it.
Suddenly your eyes felt so heavy and you legs felt like they couldn't carry you anymore. You heard a cracking sound, Oh god. I think you fell on the glass. You felt a warm liquid on your right arm, then closed your eyes and decided to get some rest.
.
.
Xiao was downstairs, preparing the table. As he was pouring down some drinks, he heard a cracking sond the a thud.
'Did he break something again? This is the third time this week.' He thought as he frowned while thinking.
"Y/N did you break my favorite cup?!" he shouted to you, he waited for your respond while walking towards the stairs.
You respond never came.
He waited for your sweet voice again, waiting for you to make an excuse that you didn't do it on purpose.
It never came.
"Y/N?" He called out to you as he slowly started to climb the stairs.
"Love?" he hoped you would respond to this at least.
You didn't.
He hurried to your shared room and opened the door, his eyes searching for your figure. He stepped inside, When he took the second step, something pierced his foot. When he looked down, he saw that the handle of his favorite glass was the thing that had pierced him.
His eyes followed the broken pieces and finally stopped at your lying figure. For some reason he was in shock and couldn't move, why were you on the ground?
There was blood on the floor, your arms were bleeding beacuse of the glass pieces cutting your skin.
" Y/N!! " he fell down on his knees next to you.
"Hey, hey. Wake up! Y/N?" He lightly slapped your face a few times, you didn't wake up. He felt like crying, you were never one to faint or sleep until necessary. Xiao didn't know what to do.
He touched your forehead, 'He's burning' he said to himself as he grabbed you from your waist and leaned your body on himself. You were heavier and...taller than him so he had trouble sitting you on the bed.
Xiao quickly went to get some wet towels to put it on your head and some painkillers if you woke up.
'Oh god oh god oh god oh god—' he put the towel on your forehead his hands were shaking, making the situation even harder.
"I should bandage the scars, yeah, calm down Xiao. He just fainted beacuse he's dumb enough to not tell me he was sick." Xiao talked to himself, cussing at you time to time.
.
.
You opened you eyes, feeling arms squeezing you tightly. Something was wet on your forehead, bringing you some peace from the headaches and the fever.
"Ugh..." you grabbed your head and got into a sitting pozition. Xiao was lying next to you, you could tell he was crying. 'Ugh, so I fainted afterall...'
You kissed Xiao a few times, "I guess I need to take you on 2 fancy dinners now huh?" you smiled at his sleeping face.
"....You better.." he muttered while smiling.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
ft. Itto, Xiao, Gorou, Ayato
Content: fluff, established relationship
Tumblr media
ITTO
It was undeniable that your boyfriend gave the best hugs. With his large build, you slotted into his tight grip like a puzzle piece - feeling the warmth surrounding you on all sides. His arms radiated safety and reprieve, and when he spoke you’d feel the vibrations through his chest in a comforting lull.
Itto is definitely big on cuddling in general. He’d have you slotted in his arms whilst the two of you relaxed after a long day, or hold you close in the mornings. You were his personal stuffed toy, and he adored spending time with you in his embrace.
Of course, there’d often be times with you holding him - his head resting peacefully in your lap after he’d just been bailed out of jail by Kuki Shinobu, his weight pressing into your thighs as you stroked his thick hair. Itto would be the type to fall asleep whilst cuddling, and you would drift off with him - or at least, until his snoring broke the tranquil silence. There was rarely ever a dull moment with the oni, after all.
Tumblr media
XIAO
Xiao was hesitant at first to hold you. After all, misfortune had befallen those he’d previously treasured, and so it took some time for him to relax into your embrace.
However, once he discovered the joy of cuddling, he would never be able to live without it. You’d chuckle at how cute he was - tentatively pulling you closer. If you ever remarked on it, he’d immediately flush and pull away to vehemently refute the notion that he’d crave such a mundane thing. Secretly however, he loves it - especially when you pat his head, trailing your fingers around his features softly until he drifted off into a peaceful dream. Perhaps his karmic debt was more bearable with you around.
On rare occasions, you’d have the pleasure of waking up before Xiao to find yourself entangled in his arms - to which you’d usually kiss his closed eyelids softly, intertwining your fingers with his as he slowly opened his eyes. You liked to rest your head in the smooth slope of skin where his neck met his shoulder, breathing in his scent and gently rocking back and forth. Although he’d never admit it, Xiao enjoyed nothing more than being in your embrace.
Tumblr media
GOROU
Gorou’s canine qualities lent the general to having a penchant for physical affection. He’d usually always be touching you somehow - whether it was a brush of your hands as you attended to your duties around Watatsumi Island, or a casual hand placed tepidly at your waist. When the two of you cuddled, you couldn’t help but tease him for his furiously wagging tail - gently fondling his ears as he only huffed and pulled you closer.
Gorou would love to gently nibble at your skin - not in a sexual way, merely as a catalyst for expressing his affection. His tail would thump against the couch as he buried his face into the crook of your neck, hands cradling your form to his.
After some time, Gorou would eventually cease his incessant wriggling and settle down, relaxing. His eyes would droop as he felt safe with you, drowsily registering the feeling of your hand against his cheek. Gorou would be the type to snuggle deeper into your arms, subconsciously pressing his cheek into yours as the two of you drifted off.
Tumblr media
AYATO
Ayato was a sly man, and so a semblance of regularity in physical touch was established early in your relationship. He’d delight in teasing you endlessly - leaning closer than usual or pulling you against him in an attempt to see your blush.
In private, the man would be clingy to a ridiculous extent - who would’ve guessed that the Yashiro Commissioner would be clasping his partner’s waist tightly and pleading them to cuddle a little longer? Whether it was a back hug or a fond morning embrace, Ayato was addicted to your touch.
His skin would be cool and smooth, smelling sweetly of something crystalline you couldn’t quite place. He’d be the type to lovingly trace your features, thumbing over your lips as he merely gazed at you - spare hand drawing shapes on the small of your back. Ayato would greatly enjoy cuddling with you as a means of relieving stress after his duties as Commissioner, carding his fingers through your hair in a calming manner. Just like how the ripples in a perturbed pond eventually dissipate, so too would Ayato’s energy as he finally found peace of mind in your arms, finally closing his eyes in utter contentment at being with you.

One Wish [Xiao x reader]
Tumblr media
A/N: Yeah yeah Lantern Rite already passed but who cares. AFTER THE RECENT QUEST (2.7 chasm) I FEEL THE NEED TO WRITE FOR XIAO.
And yes, the last bit is inspired by Tangled (the boat part).
Warnings: Cringe?? Haven’t written in a while.
Genre: A bit of angst at first, fluff (dw happy ending)
--------------------------------------------------
It’s been three weeks, and you still feel awkward around Xiao.
It’s not your fault really... or maybe it kind of is. Either way, you feel like you can’t look at him the same way.
Three weeks ago, you decided to take every ounce of your bravery, and confess to Xiao. You’ve liked him ever since that day at Wangshu Inn. The way he protects you, and keeps his promise by coming just by the call of his name. He even began to walk with you if he ever saw you nearby. It was difficult to keep your feelings to yourself for so long.
However, Xiao didn’t have the positive reaction you expected.
He went on about how mortals like you shouldn’t be close to him, and how his karma is harmful and all that. You heard him say this countless times before... so why is it that this time it hurts so much more?
You cried yourself to sleep that night. You felt pathetic. It wasn’t his fault, you weren’t sure if he knew the concept of dating in the first place. But he could at least consider it right?
It didn’t matter, or so you tried to convince yourself. And you get it, you really do. You can’t force him into something like this. So today (three weeks from that day), you still try to forget it and move past it. But there’s something that seems to give you trouble with doing that... or more like someone-
“You’re going the wrong way.”
Yes. Three weeks from then, and Xiao still walks with you. Well, the first week he didn’t, but mostly because you stayed at the Inn, sniffling and eating a lot of desserts to calm yourself (Smile Yanxiao was concerned for you). But after that you started going out again and doing your regular traveller duties. And Xiao came along too... which didn’t help with your feelings towards him.Today you happened to be coming from Dihua Marsh on your way to the harbour for the Lantern Rite.
“Oh, sorry.” you say realizing you were slowly drifting from the path you were walking. Yeah, it was very awkward. And moreover, making it hard for your heart. You didn’t really know how to act around him anymore, but you tried being normal. You hope he didn’t catch on how you still felt.
“Are you going to the Lantern Rite?” you asked, trying to make small talk as Liyue Harbour came into view.
“No.” he said bluntly. You were disappointed, but gave a slight “mm” in response. Little did you know, that “mm” made Xiao suddenly confused. You always asked him if he was going to the Lantern Rite, or any other festival. You always begged him, bribing him with things like almond tofu trying to make him go with you. Whined every time he declined with his arms crossed. And you understood that he disliked crowds, though you proposed you could watch the lanterns from afar. But this time was different. You didn’t fight back.
“We’re here.” you say, interrupting his thoughts. Xiao realized both of you were at the bridge already. It was the afternoon right now, but you came at the right time. In a matter of a few minutes the sun will set, starting to create a beautiful scene for the bright lanterns.
“Well, I’m going to go to Wanmin restaurant to meet up with Xiangling.” you announce, turning to face him. Though, you still couldn’t look him in the eye. “Happy Lantern Rite.” you say softly with a little wave.
“Be safe.” he said. You paused for a moment. You found it strange that he didn’t immediately disappear after saying your farewells. Nonetheless, you turned and started walking towards the harbour.
≿————- ❈ ————-≾
“Y/N! Happy Lantern Rite!” Xiangling jumped and embraced you.
“Hi Xiangling, happy Lantern Rite.” you replied, returning her hug.
“C’mon let’s go! Xingqiu and Chongyun are already waiting for us at the stalls!” she exclaimed, taking your hand and running to where the boys were.
You and your friends enjoyed the Lantern Rite with the pink and orange sunset in the background. You took lots of pictures with your Kamera, and ate lots of food from the stalls. The four of you (and Guoba) played games, and watched Yunjin and Xinyan’s performance. It was nice to spend time with your friends.
This year, the Lantern Rite included small boats you could paddle out into the sea to make your personal wishes and release your lantern. You, Xiangling, Xingqiu and Chongyun got yourselves a lantern and got to the boats.
“Whoa! Paddling a boat is kind of hard.” said Xiangling, seemingly going in circles.
“You’ll get the hang of it.” Chongyun said, bumping her boat to help push her farther. Xingqiu giggled and beckoned you to follow.
By now, it was dark. With you guys paddling away from the harbour, there was no light other than your lanterns. Once you went far enough, you set the paddles down and let your boat drift around slowly. You looked at your friends, smiling and holding their lanterns ready to be launched.
“They’re going to release their lanterns any minute now.” Xingqiu pointed back to the city. “Let’s get ready to make our wishes.” Xiangling and Chongyun nodded in response. You began to do the same. What did you want to wish for?
I wish I could be normal around Xiao.
No that wasn’t it.
No. You knew what you really wanted. It felt absurd though. You just wanted to spend one Lantern Rite with him. He didn’t even have to reciprocate your feelings. After he does go, you think you can finally get over this.
“I wish... I wish Xia-”
“Yes?”
You yelped, making the boat flail and slosh a little in the water. You clutched your lantern, shocked at what you saw before you. Those golden eyes looking right at you, his figure crouching on the other side of the boat.
“U-um...” you mentally curse yourself for sounding so weird. You couldn’t tell what Xiao was thinking right now, but you internally panicked. Did he come because you called his name? How embarrassing, thinking about having to explain to him that you were making a wish... about him.
“I want to make a wish too.” he finally says after a long silence. He put his hand out, which you gave your lantern to him for a brief moment. He took the lantern in both hands, lightly putting his forehead on the corner. He really did seem to be making a wish, you thought.
The truth is, he noticed. He noticed the smile you try to hold, when something was wrong. He noticed the way you avoided looking at him by looking at the ground instead. He noticed that night when you cried yourself to sleep. He thought that distancing himself from you was for the better. But he realized that the worst thing wasn’t a monster hurting you. It was him hurting you.
Which is why he won’t wait another Lantern Rite. He never was one to pray to the gods, or make wishes, but just tonight he does. He wishes he could go back and rethink his words, or try and understand from a mortal’s perspective, maybe even ask Zhongli. But for now, he wishes you will forgive him.
Thus, he decides he won’t make you wait another Lantern Rite either. Before you know it, he’s leaning forward, his hand moving to cup the back of your head, just above your neck. Your lips move softly in sync with his. It was short, but sweet. When you both pulled away, you were met again with his beautiful eyes, which reflected the light of your lantern.
You instantly leaped to Xiao, almost pushing him back with a hug. You were ready to stop until you felt his hands lightly embrace you back.
“Did you make your wish?” he asked. You realized the citizens at the harbour are already beginning to release their lanterns. You couldn’t contain your smile anymore.
My wish already came true, you wanted to say.
“Yes.” you said happily after sitting back in your seat. You both took one hand to hold the lantern, then raised it high enough for it to float away with the rest.
Once you were out at sea for long enough, you told your friends you were going to go home, and you said your goodbyes and see you tomorrows. You walked back to Wangshu Inn with Xiao, choosing to share an almond tofu together on the balcony.
You were tired, Xiao could tell. He watched as your eyes were fighting to keep themselves open while spooning the tofu in your mouth. It was almost midnight, but the lanterns could still be seen as little specks floating in the far distance.
“Xiao,” you whisper just about to fall asleep. “I’m happy.”
Your head falls on his shoulder while standing. He’ll have to carry you to your room later. For now he admires you, and in awe of what you said. “I’m happy.” Yet another thing that is not often said around him, nor is it something he ever says. But this time, he thinks, he’s happy too.

"Would you do me the honor of a dance?"
The world around you fades into insignificance as you lock eyes with Xiao, standing alone in the silent room. The soft melodies of the violin and piano in the background fade into a muffled hum as you both share a moment that feels almost heavenly. He stands in front of the mirror, staring at his own reflection, but as soon as he sees you, everything else falls away.
You can see the hesitation in Xiao's expression as he turns to face you, unsure of how to proceed. But despite his reservations, he extends his hand towards you, asking you to dance. The moment his hand meets yours, a passionate melody fills the room and the two of you begin to move in sync.
As you twirl around the room, the sound of your footsteps clacking on the ground in perfect rhythm, you can feel the warmth of Xiao's hand in yours. His fingers interlock with yours like puzzle pieces, and his grip is gentle but firm.
Your fingers spread across Xiao's arm like the bloodstain of a deadly wound: Slow, gentle, and warm. Your eyes sparkle, fixating on his face, and your lips softly praise his beauty, making the man's heart pound. It was as exciting as if a painting had come to life.
Xiao's attention is solely focused on you, his gaze fixed on your face. It's as though you're the only person in the room, and the way he holds you is like you're the most precious and delicate thing in the world. Your eyes sparkle with delight, and you can't help but praise his beauty in a soft voice. He held you close, handling you with such care as if you were the most expensive thing in room.
His gaze was solely focused on you and you alone, and a thousand thoughts raced through his mind in an instant.
Yet, he couldn't help but stop so abruptly.
“You only belong to me, right?”
As soon as the question left your lips, the room seemed to fall silent. The soft music in the background only heightened the tension as Xiao suddenly freezes, and from underneath his hair, he thinks you can glimpse the red tips of his ears.
He suddenly can't bear to look at the woman he's dancing with in the eyes. It's almost painful. Shame pools at his stomach, eating through his gut. He shouldn't be flustered by you, especially not this easily.
He can't deny the euphoria coursing through his veins at this moment, however. Like the light flaps of a crystal flies wings, his heart flutters in his chest. Xiao feels almost dazed with happiness. If only you weren't in the room— he can't stand the thought of you witnessing himself in such a weak state.
And yet, despite his embarrassment, Xiao couldn't deny the euphoria coursing through his veins in that moment. His heart fluttered in his chest like the light flaps of a crystal fly's wings. He was almost dizzy with happiness. But at the same time, he couldn't help but wonder what you would think of him if you knew the dark, nasty thoughts he kept buried deep within himself. Would you still see him as deserving of your grace and beauty, or would you turn away from him in disgust?
To know how easily he caves, how quickly he crumbles in on himself— only for you, and perhaps, you would like that. And he was willing to, only for you and you alone.
He was undeserving of your grace and beauty in every way, barely able to keep himself collected in your presence, or just by the mere thought of you.
"I've always been yours," he whispers, amber eyes that were like the stars in the heaven above, full of ardor and loyalty as he finally looks at you.

Simpy Xiao One-Shot
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Semi-ooc Xiao x GN!Reader
Synopsis... Xiao confesses his love to you. A brainrot that's been rotting my brain, but it's just Xiao trying his best with you to confess, but fails and succeeds in the same time.
Author's note... Xiao has been occupying my brain since 2021. This is not okay, but I'm not complaining bc I love Xiao from the bottom of my idiot heart <3
Warnings... None, really. Just tooth-rotting fluff from stupidly cute brainrots I've had of him (mwahahahahhaa) oh, but also angst if you squint just hard enough that your eyes are quite literally closed. Oh, and a mini argument :')
Tumblr media
“Xiao,” he heard you. He heard you— your voice, it rings within his head, from side to side to kiss on both his ears. Your voice was always meaningful to him. He could almost get lost in it, the way the syllables would be spelled out so greatly from you like a—
“Xiao?” You spoke once more, louder and clearer than before. Ah. He got lost in the thought of you again. Swiftly, with a flashy smoke of teal and black, he arrived right by your side, where he wanted to stay.
“You called?” Despite his words, he already knew why you called. It's always for the same reasons. To spend time with him. To do things with him. To be with him.
“Of course I did. What days do I not?”
Xiao tried to recount the days in which you've never even uttered his name. How many years ago was that? It's almost astounding how many years you've been friends with him at this point.
But it's almost as astonishing that he hasn't even confessed his love for you yet.
But never mind that, Xiao cleared his hazy mind full of fond memories with you, who replaces every other memory of his karmic debt, the agonizing presence of death that continues to pry at his sanity each passing day.
But you replenish all of that. His lost dreams, his lost hopes, and his lost world. You returned all of that to him, replenished and renewed. You, it's always you. You, who—
“Xiao, is something the matter?” You tangled his hair around your finger. The closeness had his face flushed with the pink of a peony. “You've been quite out of it lately.”
“I– I'm..?” Fine. Fine is what he wanted to say. But the words died down in his throat. All he could focus on was your features up close. You've been his friend for so long, but it's rare for you to get close to him, let alone come into contact with him. He's nervous, not just because physical contact with him is outright dangerous, but because you're just– just to close to him, and you don't even pay an ounce of attention to that. You're toying with his hair so naturally, as if it's nothing special, like it's nothing out of the ordinary— like you two were dating.
Oh, what a fantasy that would be. Xiao's hand intertwined with yours, laying in a field of grass and blooming flowers, you blabbering on about anything and everything, just like you always do. But this time, maybe you'd hug him. Run a finger or a few through his hair. Maybe you'd even kiss him. Or even do that thing that humans would do on the occasion out in the open, that thing called “cuddling”. Xiao blushes at the thought. You're already so close to him, but if you were even closer, arms wrapped around him, snuggled oh-so close? He could hardly take the thought without feeling weak to the knees.
“You're...? Okay, so, you're clearly not fine, if you were going to say that. So, here. Sit down with me, you can tell me what's happening in that restless life you've got there.” You, with a soft and low voice, whispered into his ear.
“O– Okay.” Xiao sat himself down right next to you, albeit a little closer than he intended, but still close nonetheless. Damnit, he hopes deep down and past his adeptal bones that you don't suspect a thing about him liking you.
“Alright, so something is up. If you're comfortable, you can tell me. I'm all ears.”
“Your invitation is tempting,” Xiao weens with an internal scoff, all while slipping his gaze elsewhere. “But I can't tell you anything.”
“You shouldn't need to know that I...” Ah. He let that part slip out. Albeit in a blushful whisper, but he could only pray to Rex Lapis that you didn't actually hear that.
Oh, but of course you did.
“Well, we've been friends for, like, forever! Or, uh, my forever, but you get the gist of it. Xiao, if something's wrong, you know you could tell me, I—”
“BUT WHAT IF I JUST CAN'T TELL YOU?!”
Xiao bellowed at you, having you flinch at the sudden response. That was unintentional, as told by the way he covered his mouth with his hand and the way his golden wide eyes would stare at you, heavy with guilt.
“Oh. Well, if you can't tell me, then I shouldn't pry on it. Sorry about that.”
“I– no, I should apologize. I didn't... mean to..”
Woah, wait. What's going on?
Xiao got quiet. The words, once more, were killed down his throat. He needed to get out of there quickly. But he couldn't teleport— he couldn't think of where to go at that moment, he envisioned a scornful look on your face when you stared at him. Do you hate him now? Will you suddenly give up on him? He just can't accept that, not after he found out that he was in love. He can't go back now, he realizes. He can't be used to the cold loneliness anymore, you've become a part of his life, a major part, he can't let go now! Why, oh why?! Why did he–
“Hey. Shh. Xiao, hey. I'm not mad, I'm not upset.”
Xiao opened his eyes. Everything was glassy and blurred. He rubbed his eyes— tears stained his gloves. Was he crying? In front of you? He tried to turn away, but then he felt your arms wrap around him delicately, like he was as fragile as glass. How could he escape now? You enveloped him in your arms, and he knows it's obvious that he's calmed down after that.
“Please... Don't go. Don't leave yet, I— I love you too much to let you go.”
He didn't mean for that last part to slip out, but even so, he nearly fell unconscious under your arms, feeling them squeeze around him as he confessed. Still. Of all times, why now? Why, when he's most vulnerable in your arms?
“It's okay, it's okay. You know, I love you too. I always have, but I never guessed those feelings were returned.” You took his hand in yours and smiled, looking into his soft, loving, yet teary eyes.
“Of course they were returned. I loved you for so long, I... didn't even know it.” Xiao's eyes stared back into yours, your tender eyes full of honesty. His hand squeezing yours slightly, a gesture to show that all his words were true. He watched your other hand wipe his remaining tears away, and he smiled.
Xiao smiled for you.
“Then... May I?” Xiao's face flushed a bright rosey red, seeing you inch closer and closer to him, filling in the gap of air that lay between you two.
Xiao stuttered, his heart screamed yes, but his head was going into overdrive and he didn't know what to say. Even if he did, there's no way he could form a sentence now.
But you waited. Your lips, slightly parted, were only centimeters from his own, awaiting his consent.
“P– please. Do so.”
And you crashed your lips into his, and as if roses bloomed beneath you both in place of the Inn's roof, he was dropped into eternal bliss.

Xiao looked at you, eyes wide as you proposed an idea to admire him.
“You…you’re lying, right? You’re definitely lying to me.”
“I’m not. Lemme treat you.”
His voice faltered, hesitant as they sucked in a breath- you caught a glimpse of his fangs protruding from his plush lips. Xiao's fists were curled like they were on the defensive, and for all you knew, they were. But you waited patiently. Watched as he looked at their scarred hands, nervously examining his nails  as they didn’t meet your gaze.
“I’m not gonna force you to do anything. It’s your call,” You added, softly. Whether Xiao acknowledged this or not, you didn’t know, eyes trailing them as he took a step forward, sitting at your feet. Placing his head in your lap as they looked up at you.
You stayed there, quiet for some time before Xiao sighed heavily.
“...Alright…I... I trust you.”
Lifting his hands once again, Xiao raised them to yours,  like it was their lifeline.
And for once, Xiao could say what they wanted to say, could initiate the conversations in a way they felt comfortable.
“Are you sure you're comfortable with me?”
“Of course, my love.”
“And…you don’t mind?”
“Hm?”
“I know my…features are a bit unsettling to look at but-”
“I don’t mind." You interrupt him, quickly adding, "Not at all. In fact, it’s quite the opposite- I admire you... May I?” You gesture to their face, and Xiao nods, letting you take their face into your hands. You run your thumbs across the apples of his cheeks- their skin is sunkissed, rosy hues blooming wherever your hands neared. You look at his lips, how the ends of their fangs poke through and leaning down, you press a kiss to Xiao's lips, softly, gently, chuckling lightly as their eyes widened for a split second, the light ambers and golds of his iris’s dancing in joy a you hear his breath falter.

“Beautiful,” you murmur, only loud enough so Xiao and Xiao alone could hear.
Again, the adepti's breath hitched, getting stuck in their throat as they stared at you, your loving gaze unfamiliar to them.
“Please…please don’t lie to me.”
“How could I lie to you? You’re the most beautiful being I’ve ever seen,”
“You don’t know that.”
It almost sounded like a plea of rejection coming from him. Your smile only grew as you got onto your knees, making sure that you were at eye level, that you were equal to them.
“I do. I do know that. It is a fact that can’t leave me, even in death.”
You watch Xiao, his lips wobbled as if they were about to cry, but you placed a finger on their lips.
“Please,” you start, “Let me make you feel good- how you deserve to feel."
And what could they do, but nod?

Headcanon Death Scenarios (Modern AU)
Let me know if you want me to write more of these types of stories!
MASTERLIST
Xiao-
He tends to keep to himself most of the time, but that doesn’t stop him from watching you and making sure that you don’t hurt yourself.
You don’t often get into arguments, but when you do, they're bad. One of you ends up getting hurt emotionally or physically.
When fighting, it's normally about your safety, him saying something like “Don’t do something stupid, y/n!” shouting that this is all for you. You don’t know why simply walking outside with your friend to go get ice cream would freak him out this much, so maybe there's another reason?
But you never end up knowing the truth about why he’s like this, until you finally did get hurt.
You were walking home one night. A slight drizzle was in the air, causing your vision to become a bit blurry. You and Xiao had just finished drinking at a friend’s place.
Though he promised to never take a sip of anything saying “If you were to get hurt while I was not sober, how could I forgive myself.” you ended up convincing him. “Xiao~ when has anything ever bad happened to me that you weren’t able to save me, even in your sleep”.
As you were slumped over Xiao’s shoulder, you talked about how the both of you should watch a movie when you get home. Xiao disagreed stating, “You need sleep.” With an almost humph in his voice.
But Xiao noticed something strange as you continued to ramble on about what movie you would love to watch.
There was a dark figure that headed towards you, Xiao made sure that you weren’t in harm's way by holding you a bit closer. But it happened so suddenly. He knew he shouldn’t have drank that day… maybe just maybe... he could have saved you…

What Dreams Would Sound Like
Genshin Impact Xiao x Gender neutral! Reader
Modern AU, Bassist! Xiao, Bassist in training! Reader
2999 words of mutual pining and fluff?
Xiao’s just in the mall to pick up some new strings and possibly some boba. He bumps into you, a friend from university he’s been giving bass lessons and can’t seem to get out of his head.
This fic has been collecting dust in my drafts for waaay too long. I cleaned it up to make it more gender neutral but let me know if I miss anything. I hope you all enjoy it!
Here’s a link to a photo of the boba straw key ring that comes with a portable reusable straw for anyone curious (yes it exists):  https://www.bobatribe.com/products/the-boba-straw
The little bell above the door jingles cheerfully as Xiao enters his favorite music store. The various instruments on display line the shop’s walls along with rows and shelves of gear ranging from boxes of violin rosin to smaller instruments like tambourines and maraccas. Xiao gives a brief nod to the owner wiping down the glass counters filled with capos and drumsticks as his eyes skitter over the rack of bass guitars on display. His gait slowed down to admire the gleaming instruments and to not nudge any of the arranged amplifiers with his guitar case. His feet find their way to a particular shelf in a corner of the store, where the guitar and bass strings are kept.
Xiao reached out to grab a pack of his usual bass strings and some guitar strings for his bandmate Albedo, who had been too busy juggling two majors and a minor to visit the store himself. Xiao unlocked his phone to check with the photo Albedo sent him to make sure he had the right pack and he absentmindedly heard the store’s bell jingle again as he swipes through his photo gallery.
“Oh, hello! Are you here to see those bass guitars again?” Xiao overhears the store manager say and he’s a little tempted to see who else might be another bass player. His thumb swipes over his phone furiously, where did he put that archons damned pho-
“Yes! And can you recommend me a few amplifiers today?” Xiao’s phone swiping halts at that voice. Looking up from his phone to scan the room, Xiao’s grip on the strings tighten when he spots you.
You who was the only person brave enough to sit next to him for lectures during your first week in university, you who’s continued to save him a spot on your right for every lecture as you became immune to his glare. You, who calls Xiao over to invitie him to group projects if either of you didn’t have enough group members. You who’s made it to every concert and session he’s had with his band ever since you found out he played and sometimes you show up with bubble tea for him and his group members (they tease Xiao every time you appear) which lead to them jokingly calling you by the nickname of ‘Boba angel’. You who Xiao knows has a workshop every two weeks the same day they play live in Angel’s Share so Xiao asks his band if they can start a little later sometimes because the first time you showed up in the middle of their performance, out of breath from running to the campus cafe with their usual bubble tea, Xiao scolds you but he can’t help the redness creeping up his face when you beam at him and say, “I wanted to see you perform!”
Xiao who started giving you bass lessons when he was free and because he felt he owed you an apology but he quickly grew to love those little sessions with you. Xiao frowns, he hadn’t realised it but with all those sessions you had progressed to a level where you were more than entitled to an instrument of your own. His frown deepens as he realises you won’t be cradling his bass on your lap anymore but it softens when he realises the two of you can have more sessions now that you have your own instrument.
Unbeknownst to Xiao, you’ve been saving and working for your own bass guitar, your sessions with him had reached a point where each person needed an instrument and you felt a little guilty for hogging his bass sometimes. You had heard of this store from Albedo, Xiao’s bandmate after discussing the matter with him and you soon found yourself coming back frequently to pick a bass guitar in their vast collection and you were able to narrow your choices down to a small number of basses.
Before Xiao knows it, his feet had brought him closer to where you stand with the employee over two different bass guitars. Xiao recognises them vaguely, he knows the makers stamped on both guitars are well known and he thinks back on the past bass guitars of their brand that he had heard as he tries to pinpoint which one might suit you better. “(Name)?” He tries to hide the fact that he knew you were in the store for the past ten minutes or so. But luckily, you look up from the instruments and a smile paints your face. “Xiao, what are you doing here?” “I needed a new set of strings,” said Xiao as he held the string packet up. “You’re picking out an instrument?” “Yep!” Xiao watches your gaze drop back to the two instruments again, your hands patting down one of the basses. “I’ve been thinking about getting a bass for a while now and I have enough saved up for an amp too.”
Xiao’s not prepared when you smile up at him so sweetly. “And besides, I can’t hog your bass forever.” “I don’t mind.”
You tilt your head curiously at him and Xiao coughs, looking away from you to hide his blushing cheeks. “I don’t mind you playing my bass.”
“Oh! Well that’s sweet of you Xiao,” you say before turning your head away before frowning at the two basses.
“You can’t decide?” Xiao noticed your expression and you nod.
“Have you tried playing them yet?” Xiao asks and you shake your head this time.
“I don’t want to trouble-”
“Excuse me,” the employee piped up. “If you want, I can bring over an amplifier so you can try them out.”
“No, it’s alright-” “I’ll help you, they’ll need a new cable as well.” says Xiao as he slowly takes off his guitar case so it sits next to you before leaving with the store employee.
“I have to say, Xiao,” said the employee as they searched around for a brand new cable. “I was wondering why you needed a string change so soon. I thought you were just practicing more but I guess there’s another reason why the strings are so worn.” “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Xiao picked up the amplifier in one hand before beginning to head back to where you sat.
“I see I’m not going to get an answer from you,” the employee sighed. “But hey, maybe with both of you coming here, the store can start up a couple’s discount!”
Xiao glared at the employee before snatching away the bass cable. “The day you start a couple’s discount is the day I stop coming here.”
Xiao huffs before briskly making his way back to you, not hearing the employee say “He’s all grown up now, I wonder if Mr. Zhongli knows about his partner.”
When Xiao comes back, he sees you cradling a bass in your lap. After placing the amplifier on the floor, Xiao drops to one knee to connect the bass to the amplifier. Xiao’s head dips down so he can see the cable and you find yourself staring at the fading turquoise streaks on top of his head, wondering when was the last time he dyed his hair.
“Xiao?” You call out and he glances up at you. “When was the last time you dyed your hair?”
Xiao’s gaze is fixed on the cable. “A while, maybe a month, why?”
You hum. “Have you ever considered dying it a different color?”
“...me and Kazuha mixed up our dyes once,” Xiao mumbles, loud enough for you to hear and the grin you sport has him both slightly terrified and embarrassed.
“Wait, so you had red hair?” The excitement and amusement in your tone had his heart feeling things.
“Does Kazuha dye his hair any other color?” Xiao grumbles as he stands. “It was just my tips–and why are you staring at me like that?”
The wide smile on your face is now coupled by what Xiao can only call starry eyes, you’re obviously trying to hold in your laughter but the way your eyes scan his hair then his face, have his ears reddening.
“I’m just trying to picture you with red hair. Oh! Did anyone take a photo to commemorate the event?”
Xiao turns away from you and picks up the other bass and for a moment, you wonder if you’ve crossed a line.
But Xiao’s cheeks are red when he mumbles, “Venti has a photo, I can send it to you.”
“Really?”
“For a price.” Xiao sits next to you, careful not to bump your instruments together and his gaze turns to your face. Despite the slight redness in his cheeks, his eyes are piercing, serious. They’re the same burning gold that comes out when he’s performing with the band or dancing on stage.
His staring makes you swallow and you quickly turn your head to the bass strings and begin to fiddle with them to avoid his stare.
“Well,” you clear your throat. “What’s your price then?”
“We go get boba after this,” says Xiao and you whip your head away from the strings.
“Wait, that’s it?” you question and Xiao nods.
“That’s it,” says Xiao and a slight smirk crosses his face. “What were you hoping for?”
You jolt in your seat and quickly look away. “Boba! Boba was what I was hoping for!”
“...right,” Xiao takes your actions in stride and you feel yourself let out a breath of relief.
“So how long have you and Xiao been dating? The shopkeeper returns with a catalog in hand.
Xiao’s hands pause in tuning the bass and he can hear you stutter. “A-actually we’re-”
Xiao doesn’t know how his voice manages to come out without shaking. “I teach them music.”
“Oh really? Are you sure?” the shopkeeper presses on, a teasing smile on their face.
“And they’re a much better bassist than you,” huffs Xiao and the shopkeeper squawks.
“Hey! I’m still learning!”
“And so is (Name) and yet it’s obvious who the superior bassist is,” says Xiao as he starts to fiddle with the bass.
“Fine,” the shopkeeper deflates. “So (Name) how did you convince Xiao to teach you?”
You and Xiao pause, your expression drops and Xiao quickly replies.
“That’s for us to know and you to never learn.”
Before the shopkeeper could protest anymore, you quickly start off a few bass licks Xiao had taught you to lighten the mood. Xiao nods in approval when he notices the improvement in your fingering and the even tempo you keep. When you finish, Xiao gestures to the other bass of your choice in his arms, his gaze questioning.
“Have you chosen that one or do you want to play this one too?”
You slowly set down the bass into an instrument stand the shopkeeper brings out and hold your arms out for the other bass. “I want to try the other bass too.”
Xiao passes you the bass and plugs the cable into the new bass, nodding at you to start. You smile back before turning a serious gaze to your hand on the fretboard. When the music begins to flesh out, Xiao finds himself mesmerized by the sound for a while, gold eyes lighting up in soft adoration and slight surprise. The sound is slightly different but if Xiao had to pick, he felt the second bass suited you better.
When you finish, you glance up at Xiao and ask “Well what do you think? I want to hear your opinion.”
Xiao honestly didn’t know why you were asking, the way you looked at the second bass and lost yourself in the playing said enough to him. “The second bass, it suits you. It’s like–hm how do I describe it?”
You’re not prepared for him to say the next line.
“The way you play this bass, I think it’s what dreams would sound like.” Golden eyes scan the bass before flicking back to you and Xiao’s gaze falters at the way you’re looking at him.
It’s almost as if you return his feel–
He quickly turns away to the shopkeeper as his hand fiddles with the gift in his pocket. “We’ll take the second bass, this amplifier, a new cable and a gigbag.” The shopkeeper’s eyes light up as they head to the storage room to bring out a new gig bag before asking Xiao if he could help bring the items to the cashier.
Xiao nods and turns to you and notes the curious expression you wear before beginning to prepare the amplifier and cable. “Ready to go get boba?”
You nod. “Sure, I still need to see that photo after all!”
Xiao’s ears redden at your words. “It’s just a photo,” he mumbles.
“But it’s a photo of you with red hair!”
Were you trying to give him a heart attack from how excited and adorable you were being?
Xiao huffs, ”Let’s go before the shopkeeper bothers us again.”
You pay for your bass and set it inside the new gigbag, smiling when you slip the straps over your shoulders, giddy after purchasing your new bass. The shopkeeper hands you your change as Xiao picks up your amplifier before slowly offering his hand towards you.
You take it, and Xiao gingerly takes your hand. You both zoom around the mall, never letting go. What exactly were you both now? Acquaintances? Outside of his bandmates, some peers and certain professors, Xiao didn’t associate much with people and you both definitely spent time together. Friends? That would be the easiest answer, but you couldn’t help but wish you were more than that. Best friends? You were sure that title belonged to his bandmates who knew Xiao better than you did but Venti and Albedo had both commented on how Xiao would be easier to convince when it came to doing something that involved you.
Another option lingered on the back of your head but you weren’t even sure if it was possible.
“Do you want to order your usual or do you want to try the special edition drink?” Xiao’s voice quietly asks as you both reach the boba stand and begin to queue.
You were still pondering over what the shopkeeper had said, perhaps something familiar would help cool your head.
“I’ll order my usual,” You reply, maybe something familiar and comforting could help you make sense of this foreign feeling. Xiao nods and orders for you both. You opt to sit at one of the many tables when Xiao noticed how the furrow in your brows hadn’t gone yet. Hesitantly, Xiao brought out his hand and lightly tapped on your shoulder. The familiar gesture brought you out of your thinking.
“You’ve had that expression for a while now”, said Xiao as he brought his hand back. “So I thought I’d try what you usually do.”
When Xiao was too caught up in his music, you would carefully tap on his shoulder, it would always be the trick you used when you needed to bring him out of his head and now he was using it on you.
“Well,” you cleared your throat. “I was thinking about what that shopkeeper said and how you responded. Does my playing really sound like that?”
“Like a dream?” Xiao asks and you nod as he continues. “It does, to me, it sounds like a pleasant dream I don’t want to wake up from.”
“I think that’s because I have you as a teacher,” you say with a chuckle and Xiao shakes his head.
“I’ve taught you songs and scales but your playstyle is purely your own.” You both turn your heads when you hear the ding! Of the shop’s numbering machine and Xiao rises to fetch your drinks.
“You forgot the straws,” You mention when Xiao returns with both drinks in hand.
Xiao sets the drinks down. “No I didn’t, I have them right here.”
Xiao fishes out two adorable boba keyrings and sets them on the table. You tilt your head at him in confusion.
“This one’s yours,” Xiao hands you the keychain with the smiling boba cup and keeps the one with the frown for himself. “This is how you use them.”
Xiao pops the keychain open to reveal a poker for your drinks and a foldable straw inside. You mimic his actions and poke your own cup. “These are adorable! Where did you get them?”
“I bought them, I saw them on an online sale and thought they’d be something you’d like.” Xiao sipped his drink and watched you fawn over the keychain, a small smile tugging at his lips at your own excitement.
But Xiao’s smile tightened when he remembered why he had chosen to gift the keychain to you in the first place.
“Xiao?” a tap on his shoulder and Xiao’s eyes flick to yours. You smile at him over your drink. “Now you’re the one spacing out! What’s going on in that head of yours?”
“(Name), can I,” Xiao takes a deep breath. “Can I take you somewhere next weekend?”
“Did a new boba shop open up?” you ask and Xiao falters in his response.
“Yes but also,” Xiao feels his emotions ready to barf themselves on the table. “I was hoping I could take you out properly.”
“Like a date?” you ask with a teasing smile but it fades when you see Xiao nod.
Xiao was being serious. About taking you out on a date.
You take a nice long sip from your drink, trying to look anywhere but the boy sitting across from you. When you drain your drink of nearly all its toppings, you finally have enough courage to face Xiao, who drained his cup as well.
“I’d love to go out with you Xiao,” you finally reply with a small smile and Xiao’s eyes widen.
“You’re sure?” he asks, dumbfouded that you agreed and you laugh.
“You just asked me on a date, and I said yes. Yes Xiao, I’m very sure.”

a quiet breeze drifted through the bedroom of xiao at wangshu inn. verdet had told you to get some rest while she washed the beddings but you persisted, weak eyes looking at the small baby on her mother's chest affectionately.
your humming joined the breeze and it lulled the child to sleep. you looked towards the shadows of the balcony, where a man stood.
"she is calm now. come here and hold her, my love."
"what if i hurt her?" the yaksha whispered harshly. despite being tired from giving birth for three hours, twenty minutes and thirteen seconds, you smiled reassuringly.
"it's alright," you nodded and passed him the tiny bundle that fit so perfectly in his arms as if it were meant to be there.
"she knows her papa will never hurt her."
his teal eyes began to glitter when the same teal irises resting in the eyelids that resembled yours blinked up at him.
"you have the same eyes," you cooed. hua gurgled but stayed contentedly in his arms.
"ah..."
this is a child he isn't good enough for.
he covered his mouth and big fat tears rolled down his cheeks. xiao quickly wiped them off before they could touch the baby's pudgy face.
"hua-hua.."
he didn't do anything nice to be the father of such a lovely child.
his karmic debt waits on him, but today the voices were quiet. the aching pain that was once there was stifled by the happiness he felt.
was this alright?
hua was too much of a sweet daughter for an immature father like him.
he was living in such a sweet dream that he himself wanted to devour.
for all the things- the sins- he had done, does he deserve to be able to hold his daughter's hand that looked so small in his wide palm? is he allowed to decide? to genuflect? to hold her in the highest regard second to you who brought her out into the world?
xiao opened his mouth to continue,
"grow up healthily okay? mama and papa are always watching over you."
the moment the white bundle was in his arms covered with the evidences of karmic debt; the moment she bared her eyes so much like his to the world, he had fallen in love with her.
"i love you."
he felt your gaze pierce through his own tenderly.
ah, he thinks, i do not think i deserve you too.
but it's alright. i'll be greedy.
just this once, i'll be greedy for the things i don't deserve to have.
"i love you very much."
hua. a lovely flower; a lovely name.

: Xiao is so nervous around you, you're his "senpai" from a different class and he can't bring himself to talk with you.(without being flustered and forgetting what he's going to say) But you had enough so you decided yo will take the lead.

"Just go and talk with them" Venti said as he slurped his strawberry milk. Kazuha nodded his head, agreeing with Venti.
Heizou looked at Xiao, noticing his red cheeks. "C'mon Xiao, Y/N gets along well with everyone. It won't be long before the two of you become friends." Heizou said after laughing slightly.
"Yeah, Y/N is a chill person." Scaramouche said after Heizou, making Aether and Venti look at him in a questioning face.
"Did you talk to them before?" Xiao asked, a little too excited. All of the group turned their heads at Scara who was texting someone while eating a chocolate.
"Yeah, I talked with them when they seperated a fight between Childe and that Diluc guy from class 2-B" Scara said before looking at Xiao.
Venti let out a sigh "Yeah, Diluc was complaining to Y/N for it" Aether rolled his eyes "smh, I feel bad for Y/N"
Kazuha thinked for a while then turned to Xiao. "Why don't you go and ask them if you could walk them home?" Xiao's eyes widened as he looked at Kazuha while going red.
"Take it easy Kazuha, take it easy.." Heizou said while trying not to laugh at his now tomato-faced friend.
As Xiao was about to respond, your voice made him drop the fork down to the ground. The group looked at you, who bend down and picked up the fork Xiao dropped before putting it on the table.
"Sorry, didn't mean to startle you. I was just going to ask if you wanted to help me with the art class since we have the same teacher." You smiled at Xiao while talking to him, making him blush.
Venti looked at you and smirked "But Jean is also in your art class Y/N-senpai. Why didn't you ask her?" he asked. Making Heizou raise his brow at you while smirking as well.
You chuckled while leaning on Xiao's chair with your hand. "I don't have a specific reason but I would say Xiao is a pretty one. Not everyday you find a gorgerous person, right?"
Xiao looked at you with widened eyes, while you looked down and winked at him. Venti and Aether let out an 'ooh~~' while looking at you guys.
Someone called you from the end of the cafeteria, you turned to Xiao and say "Wait for me in the gate afterschool, I'll walk you home today." you said and disappeared in the crowd.
Xiao was in awe, Scara laughed at his red face while Heizou joining him. Venti and Kazuha patted Xiao on the back as a 'you go man'
.
.
.
Xiao was waiting like you asked him to, looking around and trying to find you in the crowd. His amber eyes landed on you as you walked along with Kaeya and Itto, Kaeya spotted Xiao and elbowed you. Making you and Itto spot Xiao too, Itto pushed you with a proud face while you laughed.
You walked towards Xiao and stooped in front of him he looked up at you (you're one year older so stfu🙄)
"I-Is there a place y-you want to go or–" Xiao tried to ask but he stopped when he felt your hand on his, he was taken aback when you kissed the back of his hand. "I wanted to buy you ice cream, if you want it too." You started walk after talking, pulling Xiao with you.
"S-sure.." he was a blushing mess. He wasn't going to wash his hand after going home, your touch makes him lose his mind slowly.
.
.
"I'll have vanilla and peach.." Xiao said. The man looked at you both and smiled "You guys look like a cute couple, want me to make a discount?" the man told you.
Xiao blushed at the fact the man thought you guys were lovers, you laughed slightly before talking. "There is no need for discount, but we'll be happy if you give my boyfriend from those heart shaped white chocolates." You said while pointing at the chocolates.
Xiao' s legs felt like they could give up at any moment. His hand still holding yours, the other one holding his ice cream.
"Can i take a bite??" You asked, Xiao looked at you and blushed. He stopped walking and holded his icecream towards you, you smiled and ACTUALLY took a bite of his ice cream.
He looked at you with a questioning look "Did you actually bite it?" xiao asked and looked at the spot where you bit.
"It's sweet, like you~" you said while laughing at his blushing face. "Shut up.. You already embarrassed me enough today..." he whined and laid his head on your chest, relaxing into you.
You played with his hair, you were in the middle of the park bit who cares. Your little Xiao decided to rest a little, you can stay with him clinging onto you for a while.

xiao had never been the best with words. despite being in a relationship with you for what he considered to be a fairly long time, he still struggled to say things a normal person could so easily speak.
he means to compliment you, to tell you how much he loves you and enumerate all the reasons why, but the affectionate words always seem to get caught up in his throat, never truly being able to get them out. he envies how other people compliment and are able to speak to you so freely and easily, even if they weren’t someone you were particularly close to.
he knows he has to be better for you. he wants to be better at verbally expressing his feelings for you, knowing just how happy it would make you.
(more utc!)
so, xiao decides to act on his desire.
he somehow musters the courage to ask you out on a date, knowing how you could use this to unwind and spend some time with him. his cheeks were flaming red. he could barely meet your eyes, and he might have stammered over his words a bit, but with the bright smile you give him, he deemed the embarrassment well worth it.
when he meets with you for the date, he vows to try and grace you with as much compliments as he can manage, no matter how flustered he gets. he swears he's asked zhongli for some basic compliments and he's already had some of them on the tip of his tongue.
but the moment he sees you, his mind goes blank. his mouth is dry and the words he had ready for you disappeared in mere seconds with how stunning you looked.
"wow…" xiao says, his mind unable to grapple and form coherent words. his warm eyes glance at you from head to toe in what you could clearly tell was adoration. "you look amazing…"
your cheeks flare at the sudden compliment. "why thank you, xiao," you reply, a wide smile making its way onto your features.
"is that new?" he asks suddenly, gesturing to your outfit. taken aback by his keen observance you can only nod.
"it is actually. i'm surprised you noticed."
"of course i noticed. i notice everything about you," the adeptus states firmly, cheeks growing as dark as yours at his bold proclamation.
"you're rather wordy today." you chuckle as you both start to walk towards liyue, the back of his hand ever so slightly brushing against your own. "what's up?"
xiao is silent for a few moments. he was never quite good with his feelings either so finding the words to describe how he felt, what his intentions were was proving to be quite the challenge for him.
"nothing." he keeps his eyes forward as you two walk, figure tense. "it's just… the world is lucky to have you. i'm lucky to have you. i don't say things to make it obvious, but i supposed i could try."
xiao didn't need to look at you to sense the beaming smile on your features in response to his words.
he feels himself relax when you intertwine your hands with his. a wave of relief crashes into him when you give his hand a reassuring and gentle squeeze as you two continue to trek along the path leading to the city.
"your effort is all i could ever ask for. it's more than enough for me."

Oneshot - Genshin Impact [Lover's Oath]
Game: Genshin Impact
Title: Lover's Oath
Pairing: Xiao X GN! Yaksha Reader
Word Count: +2.1K
Warning(s): Blood, injuries
2.7 end cutscene inspired me because I fell in even more love with Xiao :,) I didn't think it was possible but here we are.
If you enjoyed my work and want to look for more, here is my masterlist. Or you could request here from any of these shows!
Tumblr media
Your cries of pain were drowned out by the heavy rain pouring down from the dark sky, as you lay in the grass now soaked with your blood. Your lifeless eyes began to shut, at last, after what felt like aeons of suffering.
"Xiao, have you ever wondered what it would be like to finally be rid of the Karma we carry?"
"Why would you ask such a needless question?" He'd replied after a moment of thought. "We lay our lives to protect the people of Liyue, and that is where it ends. We can never feel what it is like to live without the burden of our sins." He looked up at the setting sun as he stood against the railing of the terrace at Wangshuu Inn. Your shallow, heartbreaking smile didn't go unnoticed by the other Yaksha, for he looked at you from the corner of his eyes.
"Is that so?"
The memory flashed in your mind as your eyes shut, a painless expression taking over. "I suppose, I shall find out what awaits me," You tried to speak as you coughed out the remaining blood in your mouth.
"If only... I could look at you," You tilted your head to the side as your breathing became shallow, and continued, "One last time." You let the sounds of the droplets falling against the surface lull you to an awaiting endless sleep. You knew, all it would take would be one word, just one, for him to come to your rescue. All you had to do was call out his name, but it seemed so difficult. You did not want him to see you go like this. It was too painful of a thought for you.
"...Y/N!" You heard a voice calling out to you, and you wanted to turn to see who had suddenly heard your silent prayers. No matter how curious you were, your eyes refused to open up again and your hearing was far too gone to identify the owner of the voice through the thundering rain. You let the drops wash you away as you lost your consciousness.
You would finally rid yourself of this Karma.
At least, you thought you would have, until your eyes opened once more to the dim light of the moon shining through the window. The way it lit your room was almost enough to make you think you had entered the afterlife. But the pain in your abdomen brought you back to reality and you lifted your shirt to see bandages covering your torso.
You looked where your wound had been and lifted your arm to run a gentle hand across it. A sigh left your lips as you got up from the bed and tucked your shirt back in properly. After the traveller had opened up the gateway to the underground chasm, multiple monsters had grown restless and began chasing after the entrance. To make sure no mortals were injured inside the Chasm, you had been fighting off the dangers until a bullet pierced through your stomach.
A yell caught up in your throat as you kneeled, feeling a burning sensation spreading through the wound. Too focused on the monsters, you hadn't noticed a Fatui Pyroslinger standing atop a hill nearby. You looked to see him turning away and teleported to his location, slashing him with your elemental attack before he could run away.
You kept your hand against the gaping hole in your stomach as the burn from the bullet's pyro infusion spread continuously through your body.
"Y/N," You snapped out of your memories when you heard your name and saw Verr Goldet standing at the door to your room. She entered and placed a gentle hand on your shoulder. "How are you feeling?"
"Verr, what happened? I wasn't supposed to be here." She sighed and removed her hand before staring out the window.
"Xiao would be quite angry if he heard you say that. Well, not that he's not already angry." You furrowed your eyebrows at the statement, urging her to continue explaining. "He... found you near the Chasm and took you to Liyue Harbor so Zhongli and Baizhu could help him. As far as I am aware, he went back after bringing you here to collect necessary medication."
"He did all of that?"
"Is that really surprising?" She tilted her head with a small smile as you closed your eyes.
"I need to go and meet him. He didn't deserve to see me in that state, after everything he's been through." You began walking past her when she spoke up again.
"Let him be, for now. He will want you to rest rather than go out once more. You can talk once he's back." Contemplating her reasoning, you nodded your head and continued walking.
"I'll be on the terrace, then." You walked up the staircase slowly and reached the top floor of the Inn. The breeze felt much better with the open surroundings as you walked further and leaned against the railing. The wind rustled your hair ever so slightly and you tucked a few stray strands away from your eyesight.
Your gaze fell to the ground beneath and you stared at guests at the Inn taking strolls along the river. "How am I supposed to protect these people when I can't even control myself?" You looked at your hand as you remembered how you had almost lost control due to your overwhelming karma after being attacked. To not cause casualties, you had to let yourself bleed out so you would have no power left to even move.
"I had no choice," You whispered, trying to convince yourself that it was the best possible decision. You clenched your fist and placed your knuckles against your forehead as a frown took a place on your face.
"Y/N!" The voice cut sharply through the silence, and you looked behind to see Xiao rushing over to you. Before you could say anything, he grabbed your face and pulled you closer to him. "What the hell were you thinking?! Did you lose your mind to attempt such a stunt?!" His voice was hoarse with anger and frustration as he glared at you.
"Xiao, I-" You tried to reason with him, but you had no argument against him. He was right: as an Adeptus, as a Yaksha, you should have been able to handle the situation much better. When you went silent, Xiao exhaled heavily but let go of you, stepping back to give you some space.
"Why didn't you call out for me?" He looked at the ground as he asked, not wanting to see your sorrowful expression any longer.
"I didn't want you to see me in that state." You answered truthfully and looked up to see his reaction. His head snapped to look you in the eyes.
"'To see you in that state'?! Is that what you were worried about?! What about our oath to protect one another? Or did you think it was made simply for reassurance?" His eyes raged like you had never seen before. "If I had been even a minute late, I would have lost you."
"Xiao, you have been through so much. For you to see me like that would have been too cruel." Your vision blurred as tears began welling up in your eyes. His eyes widened as he looked at you in confusion.
"And me finding you dead, when I could have done something about it wouldn't have been? All these centuries together, just for you to be ready to leave like that?" He asked, a lot calmer this time, as he stepped closer. "Y/N, we didn't take that oath so you could forget about it when you saw fit." You could hear the hurt in his voice as it strained the more he spoke.
"I know." Feeling guilty for your actions, you stared at your feet. You felt his hands cupping your cheeks and lifting your head to look back at him. Surprised at his actions, your eyes widened.
"I can't lose you too. So, please, call out my name when you find yourself in trouble- and I shall do the same." You nodded right away and placed your hands on his, feeling the warmth you never thought you would receive.
"I promise." You whispered as you stared at him.
"Good, because just thinking about what could have happened- I," He stopped himself from speaking further and looked away.
"But I'm here now because of you. I'm right in front of you." You attempted to gaze into his eyes, but he continued to stare beneath, at both of your feet. You wanted to see the beautiful shine of his golden irises again. "Xiao, look at me," you whispered in desperation, and he lifted his head up with hesitation. Your hands moved away from his and cupped his cheeks in return.
"I'm right here," You reassured him once more, your voice becoming softer by the second.
"Then, continue to stay by my side, as you always have," He pleaded, and you pressed your forehead against his.
"I will," You whispered as your thumbs caressed the sides of his face as you stared back into his hurtful eyes.
"I don't want to lose you,"
"You won't," You replied without waiting. "I was wrong to not call for you, but I know now. I will never leave you again." You cherished each other's presence as silence fell upon you, your foreheads still against the other. The gentle whistle of the wind brought forth a lovely tune, as if to serenade the two of you underneath the night sky.
"Xiao, can I kiss you?" You muttered, at last, not wanting to hold the question back anymore. You could see the shock take over his face as he stared at you as if to see if you were lying. Once he saw the look in your eyes, however, you could feel him relax in your hold. He simply nodded and closed his eyes, waiting for you to take initiative.
At that moment, it only felt right when you leaned forward and pressed your lips against his. You heard Xiao release a sharp breath through his nose before you felt his hand slide across your cheek and through your hair. His reciprocation urged you to get even closer and wrap your arms around his neck, so you did, while he wrapped his free arm around your waist.
All you needed was this moment to feel everything Xiao had to give you, and you wanted to give him your all in return. As his lips pressed further against yours, you felt him push you slightly against the railing, so you leaned back on it and let yourself be entranced by him.
"Y/N," he whispered between your kisses as his breathing grew heavy, but he'd rather continue feeling you against him than worry for air. Neither of you were ready to let go, afraid the other might disappear. So, you clung to one another in desperation, pulling at each other's clothes to get as close as possible.
Once you both opened your eyes and found yourselves looking at each other, all else faded away. There was only him, and there was only you. You felt tears prick your eyes once you saw his intense gaze on you, lost in the heat of the moment. So, you closed yours and leaned your forehead against his shoulder.
"Don't hide away from me now: I want to see all of you," he hummed and stroked your hair, his fingers as gentle as possible.
"How can you say such things without so much as a flinch?" You laughed through your tears and tightened your arms around him.
"Because I now know what I've been doing wrong. Let me correct it." He took a deep breath before continuing, "And I want you to look at me once more." Startled by his sudden directness, you looked up as he met your gaze right away. "Look only at me," He whispered before cupping your cheek and kissing you. A sigh left your lips as you closed your eyes, relishing the moment for as long as possible.
Your hands slid into his hair and softly stroked his locks as they brushed past them. The gentle and hesitant feeling of Xiao's lips melted away the longer he kissed you, instead, becoming desperate for more of your touch. "Don't leave me again," he begged, not letting you answer back as his lips were on yours again. You both knew there was nothing else to be said: the answer was obvious.
You had destroyed the walls between the both of you by kissing him first, and now none of you wanted this to end. It was clear in the way you called out each other's names, the way you conveyed your feelings without saying anything: an unspoken oath.
Your lover's oath.

— "Ah, wrong cup."
It's a warm morning, yet the shade of the light canopy of trees provides ample comfort. At your words, however, the amicable conversation halts. Gingerly, you place his cup back on its saucer, uttering a quiet apology. "Sorry, sorry..."
Ugh, a quiet moment with someone you'd been pining after for ages, and you likely just sabotaged any chance you had. Making someone uncomfortable is surely not a way to have someone fall head over heels for you. You cautiously glanced upwards, catching the sight of... something you didn't expect...!?
He hid in his hand, raised and flush against his face. It was rather insufficient in the whole "hiding" department, however, for you could still clearly see the fluster on his features and the red cast across the tips of his ears. Just above the cover of his fingers were his eyes, hurriedly averted from yours. His mouth was slightly ajar, but in the moments that passed, his lips moved to form whispers you couldn't quite catch.
You stood, frantic. Really, every one of your plans was going awry. "I'm sorry! I, I'll go get you a new cup-"
"He caught his hand in his before you could fully depart, clutching it tightly. His usually cool skin was warm. "N, No, I- It's fine..."
He watched your face brighten with relief as you sat back down, completely cheery again, and released a breath quietly.
Ah, how was he supposed to tell you that the mere sight of your lips touching where he had put his made his heart skip a beat?
— It simply wasn't fair.

— "Wait, let me try..."
Word had gotten around of a new drink, supposedly "the best in all of teyvat"... naturally, that called for a timely visit. It didn't exactly matter who you went with, though who were you fooling, it did, and he'd been the first one that came to mind when you were drafting a letter. Now, he stood by your side, leisurely swinging his arms while he walked and smiling smugly.
The reason? The moment you reached into your pocket to fish out your wallet to pay the fee for two drinks, you'd found your pockets empty, and that's where he had swooped in, graciously handing over his mora instead. The moment the two of you exited the vicinity of the drink stall, however, he somehow materialized your wallet once more and placed it in your hands with a cat-like grin. That little... you'd be sure to treat him to a meal sometime soon, a favor like that couldn't just be gone unpaid.
...That, and it was a convenient excuse to spend another outing with him.
"Hey, you got the limited edition flavor? C'mon, give me just a sip..." You beamed when he handed said drink down towards you, taking a sip from his straw — until you realized just what you'd done, of course.
It wasn't like it was something dire, not by any means. You were rather the romantic, and the fact that... well, hadn't the two of you just kissed indirectly?
You didn't voice your thoughts, only meekly retreated after handing the bottle back to him, growing even more flustered when your fingers brushed against his in the process. He seemed to hear them, however, and a smirk made its way onto his lips.
"Oh, don't tell me you were aiming for an indirect kiss all along?"
"W- No!" Ugh, that twinkle in his eyes was dangerous. It's easy to see that he doesn't believe you in the slightest. Yet, before you can dispense another rebuttal, he reaches a hand up to your hair and makes a mess of it.
— "Aha, who knew you were so sly~"

— "Is something wrong?"
Well, not exactly "wrong", per se. Instead, there was definitely something wrong with you in particular.
The situation started off like any other would. You found the man in his usual place, and greeted him with a smile, to which he nodded in response. He was a busy person, so you'd decided to take the initiative and make him a boxed lunch, only planning to give it to him and then let him carry on with whatever tasks he needed to complete — only... hey, wasn't it too out of character of him to ask you to feed him??
He glanced up at you, his head subconsciously tilting to the side. Just with that simple movement, a figurative arrow struck your heart. "If it's too much trouble, nevermind-"
You awkwardly coughed into your fist, trying to disperse any awfully hopeful thoughts of "hey, isn't this so romantic!?" in your head — yearning for him was one thing, but projecting your imagination of him would be another entirely. "No, it's fine- I was just caught off guard, is all..." At this point, you were more so convincing yourself than him. You dipped your head in a nod to yourself. Of course, he was so swamped with duties that he couldn't spare the time to feed himself, that was the case, wasn't it?
"Here, open wide..." You took a portion of the food and lifted it up to his lips, and he ate it agreeably. Hamster. He's like a hamster, a thought you really shouldn't be having considering how his disposition was, but seeing him swiftly chewing the portion in his cheeks... you cleared your throat, only to flinch with a start upon realizing he'd taken the utensils from you. Now, he held some of the lunch up to you, gesturing it to your mouth.
"Eh, but this is for you-" You declined, yet the insistence in his gaze only grew.
"You brought it for me, so you should have some as well."
"Well... alright," not willing to bother with an argument you were not likely to win, you ate what he hovered before you gratefully, trying to ignore the way he was staring at you as you ate.
W, Wait, hold on, isn't that the same cutlery he used-
"Your face is red. Did you choke? Here, let me-"
"No, it's just that- we, just now- ah, it's nothing."
— "Mhm."
