Last November, we did an informal game jam for folks who wanted to write something for Writing Month, but would prefer to write fewer than fifty thousand words of it. You can find the complete list of participants for that event in this post here. There's also an off-Tumblr archive of entries whose authors gave permission for them to be preserved here, if any of those links turn out to be broken.
Last year's collaboration went over well enough that I thought we might dust it off again this year. To be clear, this is just for fun – it's not a curated jam, and nobody's judging winners or handing out prizes..
If you'd like to throw your hat in, just follow these steps:
Step 1: If you're unfamiliar with 200-word RPGs, read a bunch of last year's entries (linked above) or browse the 200 Word RPG Challege archives at https://200wordrpg.github.io/ to get your brain-meats properly configured.
Step 2: Write your own 200-word RPG. If you're not sure whether you have 200 words or not (and with RPGs it can genuinely be difficult to tell!), you can use the word counter at https://200wordrpg.github.io/wordcount to check.
Step 3: Reblog this post and append your 200-word RPG.
Step 4 (optional): Please indicate in your post whether you're okay with having your 200-word RPG archived off-site for posterity – if you don't say anything one way or the other, I'll assume the answer is "no".
(As before, as a courtesy to anyone who's creeping the notes, please restrict non-200-word-RPG commentary to replies and tags until November 2023 is over – let's make the actual games easy to find!)
This is a month-long game jam that will run from January 10 - February 20th. The goal of this jam is to create more interactive fiction games about queer vampires, focusing both on queer relationships and queer experiences as told through a vampiric narrative.
JAM RULES:
Your project must focus on queer characters and vampires. Queer relationships, romantic or platonic, as well as other queer experiences, whether gay, lesbian, bisexual, ace, aro, trans and nonbinary - this is an inclusive jam.
You can write from a human or vampire perspective (or both!)
This jam will accept any medium, so long as the work is an Interactive Fiction.
This jam will accept adult content as well as games covering heavy & uncomfortable topics, but please be sure to properly list trigger warnings either in-game or on the game page.
Entries that promote any kind of bigotry will not be accepted.
Games should not include any AI generated content.
You can submit as many entries as you'd like.
You are allowed to start working on your project early! That's why I'm announcing it now. This jam is unranked and it's not a contest, this is just for fun.
Submissions open midnight, January 10th EST. They'll close February 20th at 11:59pm EST.

Otome Jam 2024 jam page is finally up and along with it, we are continuing last year's Josei Jam!
Join now to be notified when it starts and go ahead and prepare yourself for the start OtoMay (and June)!
As always please be sure to read the rules as we have made some updates again and this time provided more international support by adding translations (currently French, with German coming up) for Otome Jam! Even if your game is not in English, you can submit it to both jams, but as a disclaimer, the two hosts mainly speak English.
If you would to submit a translation for either jam, feel free to contact us on Discord!
Likewise, we are still updating and getting some things ready, for any more questions our Discord server is available!
NaNoRenO 2024 has come to a close, and there were a total of 152 entries submitted! Congrats everyone!
There were several otome / adjacent submissions; the ones I could find are listed below in alphabetical order. If you know of more / see your game isn’t here, please feel free to let me know.
17+ Through Death We Become — An interactive fiction story about grief. [Submission to Queer Vampire Jam — Other Entries]
Years ago, your life was taken from you, stolen by the teeth of a vampire. For a long time, anger at losing all you were had festered inside, building and boiling, threatening to pour out, but you had maintained it.
Until you heard that the vampire who turned you had shown up in some state, and it all came rushing forth.
Not wanting to lose your chance at revenge, you hunt him down, but before you get to him, you wind up in a random town with a stranger who wants to help you.
I made all the visuals for this touhou bird girl dating sim-type thing in 72 hours for the touhou game jam. If you have time, please give it a look 🙇♀️
When Colonel Campbell goes on vacation to the Bahamas for 2 Weeks, YOU [Solid Snake] has been tasked with petsitting his beloved pet Yipperz. Are you up for the mission?
Made for a week long Game Jam, feat. professional voice acting [citation needed], and crazy petsitting action
A dumb game jam idea I actually 100% intend to run someday but would require way too much prep work for me to take on right now is setting up a web page that procedurally generates a blank character sheet for a nonexistent game every time you load it up, and you create your entry by working backwards to arrive at the game whatever you got could be the character sheet for. Full chaos – click the button and get a character sheet where the middle is a big compass rose with each cardinal point bearing a pictograph of a different breed of dog and there's three separate write-in slots in different parts of the sheet all labelled "Gender:" and you have to figure out what to do with that.
“Across the Universe, a thick blanket of HATE has fallen. Who will save us? Who will bring back COLOUR to the Universe?”

What is Dice Exploder? Each week, Sam Dunnewold and a rotating cohost break down one tabletop RPG mechanic as deep as they possibly can.
For the duration of the third season, we're running a game jam inspired by the podcast's premise. You can join the DE Discord , where there's a channel for this game jam, to discuss your submission with other participants and fans of the show.
Explode a game you love (or want to love) and remix, remake, or reinterpret it in part or whole.
Dice Exploder is about zooming in on a part of a game and making it everything. This jam is about taking your favorite part of a game and dragging it to the center of the experience. Want to turn that 400 page tome you can never get anyone to play into a single-page game? Go for it! Is there a combat sim game you're pretty sure is actually about running a coffee shop? Write those rules. Taking a setting apart down to the molecules and rewriting it as barely an echo of the original? Totally fair play.
Still can't find a working link for Goncharov (1973), but...
Creating Goncharov is live on Itch.io!
Everyone knows Goncharov. Martin Scorsese's 1973 film is a cult classic, a true masterpiece of cinema. To celebrate its upcoming 50th anniversary, you, an office drone working at a major media corporation, have to create a pitch for a 2023 remake. It's an amazing opportunity that could launch your career. There's just one problem.
You haven't seen Goncharov.
Unable to turn down your corporate overlords, you and an indecisive colleague throw together a story based solely on information you can quickly find or invent.
How will you reimagine the greatest mafia movie ever made and what will you do to turn your ideas into reality?
Creating Goncharov is a surreal interactive fiction game created for Autumn Chen's Goncharov game jam. This game was written and coded by Albie. For more games by Albie, click here.

Hello, I am organizing a cozy game jam in my art server! If anyone is interested, please feel free to join. For anyone who doesn't know, a game jam is where a person or group of people work together to make a small game within a set amount of time.
I am aiming for a beginner-friendly jam with resources/help from experienced devs, if someone is new and wants to start out in the gamedev industry, they are very welcome.
No crunch ideally, the jam runs from the 17th November to the 4th of December, meaning there are two full weekends in the jam, for people who have to work fulltime through the week.
The games will be played by myself and the mod team on-stream so nobody's work goes ignored.
There will also be prizes, paid for by myself and through any donations we have received so far.
So yeah feel free to join! I would love to meet everyone and play your games!
