6/6 posters DONE, and i'm closing the poster madness with the most important piece to me. All of the world's credit goes to @highgroundanimations not only for his uniqe 241st troopers, but also for giving me permission to include them in my project. I got a bunch of dms from people asking who the 241st are, and why are they included in this project (someone even asked if i could switch them with clone commandos instead 💀) Pretty simple answer to that. This guy's been inspiring me ever since the teaser for Tukk tales came out. He's one of the main reasons i started doing 3d, and is a person i'll forever aspire to be. So of course i'd include his characters in a project that basically wouldn't have happened without him. So if you're reading this by any chance, thank you again! I think it's safe to say all of us who know who Captain Tukk is adore everything you put out there! In other news, with the posters being done, i can finally start focusing on the menu animations only. And once they're done, i can finally move on to making a trailer for this game. Hopefully the whole project will be done by mid summer, but we'll see 🤞

The first lesson any burgeoning Level Designer learns is usually that the natural intuition most level designer has is to pace your levels to be way too small for the average user.
Your first attempt at a blockout is almost always without fail going to put everything too close together, information overload your user, and/or make you realize you generally need to break your spaces up or obscure the information within them. I'd guess that roughly 80% of the levels I see made by new designers are way too condensed because the designer hasn't been able to imagine the pacing from a player's perspective.

Signal Hill Update 1.2.0 is Live
...been a while, huh?
After a long hiatus from this project to focus on my schoolwork, I have a whole update for you lovely folks including over 27,500 words of new content.
For new players, Signal Hill is a text-based interactive fiction RPG set in the post-apocalyptic utopia of Signal Hill. After your caravan is ambushed on the way to the city, you're stranded here- penniless. As you try to recover your cargo, you'll meet a cast of morally dubious characters looking to use you for their own benefit and uncover a web of intrigue far vaster than you ever imagined.
In this update...
DRESS UP GAMES (8.5k). As you embark on your quest to become Yvette's little helper, you'll need to do some dirty work for him- but before you can do that, you've got to look the part. Meet up with him at Darling's Boutique to play dress up with a number of cheeky, route-exclusive clothing items to disguise yourself in an underground genderfuck club.
CROSSROADS (7.5k). The local cult leader wants to meet with you- how could you say no? With tensions high, learn about Levi, the beliefs of him and his followers, and the strange living god they follow.
WHISPERING STREETS (8k). You've been tasked with figuring out who stole that precious cargo from the caravan- who shot you. Ask around, push, prod, and put the pieces together to figure out what the word on the street is. Ask the right people, and you might just learn a thing or two about the twisted web of politics going on behind the scenes.
DEBRIEF (3.5k). Collect your thoughts, share your info, and make a plan for what comes next. This scene has two variations, one featuring Doc and one featuring Levi.

Fun fact: Akabaka made this trailer without actually "animating" anything
I'd love to go in-depth on the "making of" when I have some time. He used limited animation techniques to mimic the effect of motion without having to draw so many individual images. Aka is a self-taught artist and had not made any animations before the first Sucker for love trailer. Really wanted to replicate the feel of a classic anime op or trailer, so had to get creative
He used the same techniques in his other two trailers, taking cues from other openings like this Keep Your Hands Off Eiziken op and this Candyman trailer.

Here's some stuff from a "Screenshot Saturday" post I made over on twitter. A few highlights from recent development!

Isaac has a revamped battle sprite. I wanted to better emphasize that he's left-handed, so I have him positioned with his dominant hand toward the enemy.

Here's the party screen - the thing I made those fancy status portraits for. It's a pretty standard "character sheet" for whatever party members currently accompanying Ashley, with all of their mechanical information and a few personal details at the bottom. It's also where you'd change their equipment or have them cast spells.

The status portraits were also the basis for the party member's dialogue portraits. At some point I'll share the placeholder dialogue portraits used in older builds!

Oh, and when you load a file from the main menu, it drops the party at the top of the camp site like so. Things could get messy and complicated if I didn't put in a little fix like that.

I'm still touching up the aesthetics, some of these gifs are from before I added all the fancy effects.

You can fish anywhere there's a water tile! (As long as you have a fishing rod and bait.) Fishing synergized well with the planned resource management systems, and I'm always eager to give the player more "verbs" they can do within gameplay. I also learned a lot about moveroutes when I was setting up the system to find valid tiles and animate the bobber...

Im like some peasant woman who's waiting for her husband's return from the war. While waiting for the game release date, my billow and standee. Someday they will come back for me.
PRIME OPPORTUNITY FOR AN UPDATE QUICKIE
KS merch left the manufacturer at the beginning of April with an eta of 3-4 weeks to reach fulfillment centers (we got slow shipping boys, the fast stuff is crazy expensive and I didn't want to eat that or pass it on to you)
However we're reaching the butter zone of that delivery window! I expect the goods will arrive pretty much any time now.
Once the goods arrive at fulfillment, the orders will be separated and packed, bound for individual backers. I expect this turnaround time will take a couple days max.
Once orders are packed they will ship out to their expected destinations. Again, I opted for slower shipping to keep costs down so please bear with me here.
US American Backers will probably get their orders about 5-10 business days once packages ship.
International will take longer, in my experience it can take about 10-12 days (typically less) but also sometimes things get slowed down in customs and stuff so it could turn into a couple weeks.
Your husbands are coming and when tracking information becomes available I'll make an announcement and reach out via KS.
THE GAME
Amazing news: the UI is DONE
TCM will be submitted to Steam's quality and content control processes beginning Monday, 5/6.
The purpose of these two reviews is to ensure a certain level of quality/stability and to make sure none of my content is violating Steam's TOS.
I expect I will pass these reasonably quickly, I don't foresee any issues that might hinder the publication process.
Once I get those pass marks, it's bug test, bug test, bug test until May 20, RELEASE DAY
I don't have specific dates/times but there will be TWO discord events I'll be hosting to celebrate that will also involve a bunch of other fun stuff like live writing improvs from submitted prompts, Q&A, and some fun stuff from development. More information on this will be forthcoming.
