The world went to shit long before you were born- what happened, nobody's sure. Whatever it was, it left a mess. The horrors of the blasted wasteland, the things that roam outside of city walls, the static that buzzes in your ear like an old TV... not to mention the violent fuckers out there who'd rather they have what you've got.

But a job with a caravan travelling across the wastes means you can finally start a new life in the neon-lit utopia of Signal Hill. That is, until you're ambushed outside the city, your cargo stolen and your guards dead. The bright lights and the ever-present hum of the radio are starting to feel like more of a nightmare than a dream...

Signal Hill is a post-apocalyptic narrative RPG/interactive fiction game set in the eponymous neon-lit utopia, Signal Hill. Players take on the role of a wanderer from the North, arriving in the city for the first time and become enthralled in its local intrigue. It also contains gratuitous violence and sexual themes, so the current demo is recommended for adults only.

This caravan job was meant to be your ticket to a better life in the big city- instead, you were robbed outside the gates and nearly met your end in the ensuing slaughter. After being nursed back to health, you're free to roam the streets of the big city, make your fortune, have some questionably moral fun, and maybe figure out what dark secrets are hiding in the neon-lit streets of Signal Hill.

On 12 December 1901, the first transatlantic wireless transmission was received on Signal Hill by Guglielmo Marconi in an abandoned fever and diphtheria hospital, which has since been destroyed by fire. The transmission, in Morse code, originated from his Poldhu Wireless Station, Cornwall, UK.

Signal Hill is looking for beta testers!

Signal Hill is a post apocalyptic interactive fiction RPG set in an off-kilter world brimming with personality. You play as an outsider newly arriving in the gleaming utopia of Signal Hill, stuck without funds and thrust into the mystery of your own (near) murder. Heavily inspired by Apocalypse World, Fallout: New Vegas, and Disco Elysium, it places the player into a rich text-based open world full of people to meet, things to do, and leads to follow. Authored, choice-based quests will guide you along a non-linear story as you decide what to do, who to side with, and who to be.

The demo has now been out for just about a year, and has received tens of thousands of new words in updates, both public and as yet unreleased. It's about time to get some new critical eyes on it.

I'm looking for people who are willing to...

Read through at least the full main storyline so far (~1-2 hours) within a span of two weeks

Provide detailed, critical feedback on the gameplay, story, and writing quality of the new content

Report potential bugs in new and existing content

(Optionally) report their feedback live over text, record their screen during specific sections of gameplay, and/or time how long each section of the story took to read

Both previous readers and people who are new to the game are encouraged to apply! Prior beta testers will get priority.
