So I just reblogged it but I'm still thinking about it, the idea of dark King!Ace turning countries upside down trying to find the love that was taken from him. Not wanting to accept that Sabo may be dead, and Marco lets his conquering continue because Ave does make it better, once he takes over (brutal and bloody though that takeover may be) and, as well....well, pragmatically, he doesn't want to see Ace fall any further into the same madness that consumed Ace's father, he doesn't want to let Ace lose himself, doesn't want to watch from the outside as Ace devolves into a frenzy and loses the power and security of his kingship. Marco knows exactly how many people are waiting to see Ace fail and he refuses to let that happen.

ALSO the start of Everything being an attempt to soothe, Marco trying to calm Ace down, and it works, sort of, and Marco doesn't turn away from that first kiss because at his core he knows he's a selfish man, even if this is meant to mean nothing. Doesn't realise Ace loves him just as deeply (how is he supposed to, when Ace barely realises it himself?)

But then when Sabo is brought into the throne room, Ace just freezing. Looking into his eyes, all that bitter fury and Ace is almost delighted, that there's a reason his old love never returned - that Sabo hates him, as he should have when they first met. His lifelong search has culminated in Sabo at his feet, on knees, but he's not swearing fealty as he should.

Leaning forward and taking him by the chin to look at the spiderwebbing of delicate/brutal scarring, noting casually that Sabo's in the garb of a simple solider.

"they just sent you our as cannon fodder, didn't they? Appease the mad king with some slaughter."

Sabo yanking himself from Ace's grip, glaring, and it just makes Ace grin wider. Ace clicking his tongue, all musing and mean, "When are they ever going to learn-"

"That beasts are never satisfied with blood? That they want the hunt, too?" Sabo spits, and Ace is in agony, so hot it burns, and Marco can feel the heat off him, the way everything in the room is starting to rattle as power rolls off Ace-

Marco wishing he'd been able to see Sabo first, so he could have figured out what was going on, so he could make this transition easier (maybe just pay Sabo to stay the fuck out of Ace's life-)

thinking about that post of people assuming ao3 has an algorithm and also about how bonkers persistent the view is that ao3 is social media lite. like with startling regularity I get comments saying something along the lines of "it's probably weird to comment on a fic this old--" no it isn't!!!! this is an archive I am literally just assuming you searched for a selection of specific tags or sorted by kudos or looked back on my pseud or any other number of completely normal ways to use an archive site ?? kill the tiktok ghost in your brain and comment on old stuff it's NOT weird

EVERY SINGLE DAY there are MILLIONS of characters in their late 20s who get falsely accused of being father figures to teenagers when in reality the description of "weird older cousin" or "step-sibling that moved out before you were born" is 1000000x more apt

I saw a post about an anon saying it was embarrasing to have an ao3 account in your 30s (it's absolutely not), so I want to do a poll and see what the age range actually is.

Ao3 is actually massively culturally important and very very good at being what it is. I’m so serious when I say that ao3 needs to be protected as the anti censorship, by fans for fans, nonprofit, volunteer run, expertly designed archival site that it is. You don’t have to read or like fanfiction to understand that on principle, ao3 is a site that should be defended.

What in the fanfic hell is this?? 😂😂
