interesting how it's always "iranian regime" and never "israeli regime" and definetly never "iran, where the us and uk overthrew a democratically elected leader because the iranian parliment voted to nationalise iranian oil to stop foreign countries profiting off of their resources, with the western powers' actions ultimatly leading to the islamic republic of iran that they so fear"
It's so fucked up that digging a bunch of holes works so well at reversing desertification
I hate that so much discourse into fighting climate change is talking about bioenginerring a special kind of seaweed that removes microplastics or whatever other venture-capital-viable startup idea when we have known for forever about shit like digging crescent shaped holes to catch rainwater and turning barren land hospitable
I think we're starting to dilute the meaning of "terminally online". Like, no, it's not terminally online to have eccentric opinions about a popular TV show – people like that existed before "online" was a thing. Unless we're talking at least an "it's homophobic for gay furries to have rat fursonas because they're depicting gay people as vermin", the onlineness falls well short of terminal.
If you were honestly more concerned with advocating for Palestinians than you are hating a specific group of people, you would be disavowing these actions the loudest.
But instead all we hear is a deafening silence, and worse…
When a minority group tells you there’s a problem with your movement, listen to us, don’t “but” and “if” our concerns. Don’t bring up one Jewish person or 12 who agree with you or are too afraid to tell you what they really feel. Because tokenism is racism.
I was watching a reaction video to this speed dating show called The Button, and this one contestant had short hair and the other contestant complimented her, saying he likes long hair on himself and short hair on girls. But then he quickly asked her if she was nonbinary bc he didn’t wanna assume, like ???? Congrats to the nb movement for bringing back traditional gender norms! /s
Someone in the comments said him asking her that was “the sweetest thing.” I don’t see how suspecting that a woman isn’t really a woman for having short hair is sweet, but okay.
Yeah it’s incredibly backwards. And additionally very strange considering that women in the west have been wearing their hair short in mainstream fashion for the past hundred years. People who are younger seem to tend to assume that women with shorter hair might identify as nonbinary because that’s the trend in their age group. No one is assuming that grannies with short hair are calling themselves nonbinary.
It's really interesting the difference between how people act when you talk about racism vs antisemitism.
Like when I've talked about racism that I face as an arab as well as talk to other poc about racism and even non poc about racism, people always are ready to jump in with their thoughts and have a proper conversation.
However when I talk about antisemitism, unless it's with other jews, most people just act uncomfortable and the conversation never goes anywhere. This is both pre and post Oct 7th.
And like, antisemitism inherently isn't anymore of an uncomfortable topic than racism. It just makes me wonder why.
Is it because antisemitism is less socially acceptable to talk about? Is it because there just aren't a lot of jews where I live so often it's people's first conversation about antisemitism? Is it because the people I'm talking to are closet antisemites?
I don't even know which answer would be the "good" answer.
The inability to discuss stuff like this with people i know irl just makes me feel so lonely offline.
