Prompt:
Contrary to what everyone believes, Damian does not know death.
He grew up with the League. Sheltered from the worst even though father does not seem to think so. Grievous injuries were healed with a submersion in a pool of glowing green.
Damian does not know death. For him, death his temporary. A setback. Something to be cured with magic unknown.
So when Damian stabs one of father’s false sons, he does not understand why father is so upset. Why he is now barred from the cave. Why everyone looks at him with such horror. Surely they know he had to demonstrate that he, the blood son, is superior?
He does not understand why the false son does not get back up. Why father does not take him to the pits.
Damian does not understand. He will have to investigate.
He does not understand why nobody wishes to talk to him all of a sudden.

I know it's a classic trope of danny phantom x dc crossovers that the Justice League or the Batfam finds out about Amity Park and immediately starts an investigation, but honestly, that doesn't really make sense in world.
Like, there are ghosts in Illinois. Whoopdeedoo. There are aliens in Metropolis, assassins in Star City, metas in Central, and every type of crazy imaginable and a few that no one would ever think of in Gotham. The DC world is a very weird place.
More than that, I think it kind of misunderstands what the Justice League originally was. A lot of the time fanon and canon both treat it like some kind of centralized superhero organization with the main group as the bosses. This isn't really how it started in the comics though, from what I understand. At first, the Justice League was a bunch of independent supers with their own independent territories who occasionally talked to each other. They would get together if say, there were aliens in Star City and Green Arrow needed advice on how to take care of them, or if there was a worldwide threat they needed to work together to address, but for the most part each hero had their own jurisdiction and they were not fond of people intruding in that territory. Local problems were dealt with by local heros, and if there wasn't a local hero? Just wait a couple of weeks, the police can handle it until someone pops up.
My point is that the League is really unlikely to try to swoop in and completely figure out Amity Park's situation, or even to really care about it once they realize that they already have both Phantom and Red Huntress. At most they might invite them to a few get togethers for networking.
I bet Batman wouldn't even care that much. I know he's the king of paranoia and contingencies, but he focuses almost all of that on people he knows are threats. He doesn't have time to care about a couple small town heros with small town problems, the Joker just got out of Arkham and he's going to kill hundreds of they don't catch him fast. (This isn't to say I think B would look down on small timers, but he would probably see them as little leagues, because he has no reason to suspect that it's that important. People with the power of the Justice League aren't just crawling out of the wood work, and it makes far more sense for him to assume that the problems in Amity Park aren't particularly powerful. Like how non Gothamites never believe that normal human rogues could actually be that dangerous.)
Crazy stuff is everywhere in the DC world, and unless you make it their problem, most supers assume that it's taken care of.
That said, it would totally be awesome if the Justice League was throwing a get together for lesser known less powerful heroes and just didn't realize what they had invited until it smacks them in the face.

❝ I ran into Paul McCartney here and there over the years. He’d been to my house a few times, but we never had a serious talk or a big hangout. He was incredibly polite, and his Beatle magic was powerful stuff, with an accent that could melt you at fifty feet. Lennon Remembers had hurt Paul, but his relationship with Rolling Stone was always good, producing many interviews and covers. Still, we remained the keepers of the flame for John. I thought Paul was angry about that, but perhaps I was imagining it, steeped as I was in Yoko’s partisan anti-McCartney stance and my loyalty to her.
Paul was putting out his first new album in seven years and wanted to line up support from Rolling Stone. When he came to pick me up for lunch at the office, staff were standing by their doors. The only more remarkable reception was when Jerry Lee Lewis walked down the hallway amid a standing ovation. Paul, for his part, was delighted to shake every hand and answer every question. He was enjoying himself. The fairy dust was everywhere. Our lunch was gossipy and relaxed. Paul was anxious to talk about John, and kept coming back to him. He wanted to make sure I understood the depth of his love. John was a complex, difficult character, and Paul’s feelings, however competitive and conflicted about credit, were nonetheless pretty simple. Paul didn’t want to be in a fight with the John cult; he wanted to be a part of it.
We went over to the studio and he played me his next record, New. The music struck me as more in tune with the times, while Paul’s songwriting seemed more in touch with his own history, including his early days with John. Paul was looking inward, trying to reach the level of honesty and depth that John had. His melodies and his voice were soft and pretty, lovely. I could hear him making a reach with this album, historic in his own arc.
When I told Yoko about my visit with Paul, she said something to the effect that I had fallen under his spell. She was a hard-ass about it and had her reasons, but I didn’t want to be a party to it anymore. I thought that Sean should have a solid relationship with his deceased father’s oldest friend. Paul had finally reconciled with his own feelings about John. We were all growing up.
The show Paul did that week in Brooklyn was joyous, a lot of stage business and fireworks at the end. He embraced his heritage and the achievements of the Beatles. He was celebrating the Fab Four and dedicating songs to John. All you need is love! ❞

When I talk about Paeden to my friends who I know will Not watch the podcast, or at least not season one, I mention that he died and hasn’t come back yet. And then I remember I already emphasized that he was eight and have to scramble to explain why this child’s death isn’t actually super morbid.
Not once have I told people HOW he’s died because ngl I love him and Walter but if I tried telling people it wasn’t kind of fucked up I’d let them call me a liar.

Tell me more about this book blanket? I'm Fascinated
Omg yay!! Okay so I'm knitting two rows per book that I finish in 2024, and each book rows will be a different color based on the genre it is
Tumblr media
So here are the books I've read so far. Everything that's in bold is what I've knitted, and the last book on the list is what I'm currently reading but haven't finished yet. So I've knitted everything before Fifty Feet Down, and read everything up to Annie on My Mind, but I'm currently like thirty percent through it.
I'm choosing colors as I finish genres, and I'm trying to do it only with yarn I have (cuz yarn is expensive and I have a lot of yarn. The reason I have a lot of yarn suitable for a blanket is because I took all of this yarn from a blanket I started knitting four years ago and never finished. Like I finished frogging that blanket yesterday and made it into cakes on my new yarn winder!!) I didn't really try to make the colors fit the genres. I just own a lot of navy yarn and knew I'd read a lot of LGBTQ books, and I own a lot of black and know I'll read a lot of horror books. Then for dystopian I just chose a yarn color that I had available, same with mystery.
Tumblr media
Here's how it's going so far! You can see the four navy rows for the two LGBTQ books i read, the two purple for the one dystopian book (which is also very good, I highly recommend Debate Kids at the End of the World and that author in general, Alex Nonymous) and then a chunk of black because I read four I. S. Belle books in a row (you can also see all of the ends I didn't weave in, which I'm going to hate myself for when I finish the blanket)
"But Austyn, what if the book is more than one genre?" I'm so glad you asked! Most of these books could be considered more than one genre. Fifty Feet Down is a mystery, but also a romance. So I just consider what genre I believe is more integral to the story, if that makes sense. Fifty Feet Down could be relatively the same if the main characters were just friends, but the story would be vastly different if it wasn't a mystery. Therefore, it gets the mystery color instead of romance. Same with all of the I. S. Belle books. There's romance in them, but if you took out the romance it would still be pretty similar, but if you took out the horror it would be an incredibly different story.
So that's my 2024 book blanket!
