Any hot takes or opinions about Leslie, Alfred and Jim Grodon?
OH!!
Alfred listens to gangster rap in his free time, but, he listens to female artists exclusively. In all genres. “Men speak enough, don’t you think?”
He can mimic any accent under the sun. EXCEPT for the “Jersey girl buying energy drinks at a gas station” one.
He just can’t bring himself to. Tim has this theory that their beloved shotgun grandpa isn’t even British and he’s faking it. He’s willing to die on the cross for it.
Leslie used to write Jason’s gym passes when he had to skip. Either because some rogue got a little too rowdy (and by God, she feels just a minuscule bit worse for them after Bruce is done with them)
I don’t know if this is feasible at all, but she somehow convinced his gym teacher he can’t participate cause he’s on his period. “…Well, this is Gotham, I guess. “
I think Jim gets into fights with the moms from his Facebook group, — specifically, his PTA group. (It truly depends on what version of Barbara you prefer, — but I love her in The Batman 2004)
Alfred keeps Martha’s wedding ring on his left hand and Thomas’ on his right. He only takes them off when he patches Bruce up. And he has their last words tattooed on his back ^^
Jim is sick and tired of Bruce dipping in the middle of their conversations, so he handcuffs them together until they’re done.
Maybe even a bit after. They should get to spend time together. (Harley Quinn series I see you and I hear you

70% of my trigun thoughts are abt how plants (independent and dependant) work and what they symbolize and their relationships with other characters and the world and stuff and the implications of independent plants coming with the earth forces and what it says about how earth has progressed since SEEDS left the planet, 20% of my thoughts are "hope those guys (meryl milly vash livio ww knives) are having fun" and 10% is rotating trimax Rem Saverem around in my head at all times
#i think abt rem a lot for a character that is like important but also isnt materially present in the story much#like idk her relationship with grief and regret and the idea of her looking at the shambles of her life and having to say#'well at least i can start over since theres nothing left for me' multiple times (after alex dies and she joins seeds#and after failing to keep tesla alive and getting a 'second chance' with vash and knives) idk its just so fascinating to me#and her idea of a blank ticket to the future and what it means in terms of how vash shapes his worldview in trimax#where it seems to be about how. death stops all future potential of a person. if they die they can never get better they dont learn#they cant change and experience consequence#like smth i find fascinating in trimax is that vash doesnt kill people but he will let somebody that person has hurt punch them in the face#and he thanks ww for killing to save the colony that one time. hes not opposed to killing/consequence entirely#i think it comes down a lot to how rem behaved in the aftermath of him finding out about tesla. how the potential for things to get better#would have died with him or rem and it would have just stayed horrible#idk idk im Rambling im turing things around in my brain#also man my main complaint with the manga is i wish it focused on the dependant plants more. they clearly experienced a big emotional#struggle esp in the final volumes and i wish we got to see more of it#but also i just like the wacky small town hijinks esp in the 98 anime i love when the main cast is just goofin around. i think they should#get to goof more#trigun#.txt#Dont Look At This Post Man its EMBARRASSING nobody should let me talk abt anything#the secret special bonus tjoughts are about chronica bc she fascinates me but i cant draw her good the way i can draw meryl and rem :(

For anyone keeping track (no one), I have started watching the first Avengers film (MCU not the 60s TV show) but only while eating lunch so it's gonna take a while. So far Nick Fury has been assembling the Avengers (the film was initially released in the UK as Avengers Assemble - because of that 60s TV show - but it's not called that on D+ so I'm calling it what the Americans called it, just FYI) even though there's not yet anything for them to avenge as That Suit Guy (j/k I know his name too!!) isn't dead yet, and now they're on THE FUCKING VALIANT FROM DR WHO and I assume we're gonna continue assembling for a while as they're not all there yet.
MEANWHILE Loki (who is neither an alligator nor a woman in this???) is in a SECRET UNDERGROUND LAIR with a bunch of his stans who are... idk something technobabble that involves irridium and anti-protons. He is there looking for the tesseract on behalf of ???? who I know will be revealed 47 films from now as... no, wait, it wasn't, was it? That was just announced on a website or something? So it could be LITERALLY ANYONE. The Avengers (in-progress) also seem to be after that thing, but I have already forgotten why everyone is wanting it, assuming it was mentioned (it probably was).
Thor hasn't shown up yet, but Arrows Hawkeye is working as a Loki Stan and there's Steve Rogers and THE HULK and The Only Woman One, whose power is that she's a Cold War assassin (??) and I think this one is the film where she gets called a cunt (!) and honestly I am not sure which of the men she's getting officially shipped with, I think Arrows Hawkeye though? Fairly sure, as the alternative is that a man and a woman like each other as people but not in a lusty way, which would never happen obviously. (Hey I may ship mostly het* pairings but I don't always like it!)
Based on the Valiant (if u don't know who she is get da hell out of here!) I am guessing that the film ends with Loki dying in Thor's arms romantically but then I remembered that I know it can't because one of Loki got kidnapped from... either the end of this film or the start of the next one or POSSIBLY just from a later film's time-travel bit (???) but like... maybe they've edited this film secretly and I was right after all? But nobody else has watched it on Disney + recently so nobody knows yet? IT COULD HAPPEN.
Not sure what to make of this film so far, a lot's been going on yet also not much has been going on, and the one I like best so far (Suit Guy) is gonna die (NOT EVEN IN THOR'S ARMS ROMANTICALLY) and god Iron Man really hasn't aged well now that we have that one tech billionaire being a twat in public all the time to remind us what such people tend to be like. WHERE IS THOR????
*I say het but everyone in everything is bisexual, I know this because I thought of it and announced it on tumblr and will now say "I don't make the rules" to make it an objective FACT. I don't make the rules!!!
#the avengers (mcu edition not the 60s one)#(though if u close one eye and tilt ur head the black widow looks a wee bit like emma peel maybe?)#i like to think the lair of loki stans exists after this to post angrily on social media about how actually he did nothing wrong etc etc#let me know if loki's just working from a subway station that's still in use in this that'd be hilarious he'd be so annoyed by it all#torn on the tortured-by-thanos issue so far he does look messy but he might just have the flu and didn't want to back out#a lot of people are depending on him to jumpstart a movie superhero franchise he can't just take the day off can he#if loki took care of himself thor would be LITERALLY UNEMPLOYED how could he? how could YOU?#(the 'god of thunder' thing isn't a job he doesn't get paid for it so it's just a hobby)#(he doesn't even monetise that hobby! you think iron man would give you storms for free? EXACTLY. he'd have a patreon AT LEAST)#(“if you enjoyed this torrential rain pls tip me on ko-fi which is not pronounced like you think it is because it's a really BAD pun”)#mcu tag i guess#and whatever the fuck my loki character tag was#like i said i really do need to categorise my lokis more it's been bothering me for a while#reminder: i am here because they cast a woman in a previously-male role and SHE'S NOT EVEN IN THIS FILM. OR ANY OF THEM. D:#don't think the alligator's gonna turn up here either :( :( :(#otherwise it's just kind of fascinating what this film assumes i do and don't know about these characters#nick fury's a goth right?

It is difficult to argue that [Edward IV] was wrong in what he did. His advancement of [Richard of Gloucester] can be criticized only by those who believe that the only good nobleman is an impotent nobleman. Medieval kings did not think in these terms. Gloucester’s power was valuable because it ensured royal control of a significant and troublesome part of the country. Nor can Edward be blamed for not foreseeing the ends to which Gloucester might put his power. The duke had been a loyal upholder of the house of York, a central figure in Edward’s polity*; there was no obvious reason why he should not occupy the same role under Edward V. In this respect, precedent was on Edward’s side. Previous minorities had seen squabbles over the distribution of power, but no young king had ever been deposed. Even royal uncles traditionally drew a line at that, something which explains why Gloucester’s actions seemed so shocking to contemporaries and, perhaps, the reason why he got away with it so easily in the short term.
In the immediate sense, Gloucester must take final responsibility for what happened in 1483. However one explains the motives behind his actions, things happened because he chose that they should: there is nothing in the previous reign which compelled him to act as he did.
-Rosemary Horrox, "Richard III: A Study of Service"
*Richard was also, yk, Edward's own brother who had been entirely loyal during his life. The problem wasn’t that Edward trusted Richard, the problem is that Richard broke that trust in a horrible and unprecedented way to usurp a 12-year-old. Please understand the difference.
#wars of the roses#edward iv#richard iii#edward v#my post#The arguments of Ross and Pollard (et al) are so profoundly unserious and ahistorical#casting an unforeseeable turn of events as a predictable ('structural') one as David Horspool rightly puts it#Ross specifically is entirely dependent on his own horrible view of Elizabeth Woodville and her family as the basis of his analysis#but anyway. as Horrox points out later in the book:#''although earlier events [during Edward's reign] cannot be said to have caused the crisis they did have some bearing in how it developed'#namely Edward's legacy of forfeitures in the 1460s; manipulation of property descents; and fluctuating royal favour.#the most prominent and politically important of all of these were the manipulation of the Mowbray and Howard family fortunes#This is often used to enhance the unserious and ahistorical arguments of historians like Ross and Pollard that Edward doomed his son#But as Horrox points out: Edward's reign did not exist in a vacuum and needs to be analyzed by actual historical context.#from a broader perspective his actions were not especially transgressive as far as English kings were concerned#NO MONARCH (Edward III; Henry VII; etc) died with every single one of their nobles 100% content and supportive#they weren't living in Disney movies and there's no point holding Edward IV to fairytale standards that did not exist.#More importantly Horrox points out that Edward's actions (eg: the Mowbray and Howard cases) need to be put into actual perspective#They were not perceived as problems and did not cause problems during his own reign.#They did not cause problems after he died before Edward V arrived in London.#They only became problems after Richard decided to seize power and deliberately exploited them as bribes for political support#Had Richard decided to support his nephew or work with the Woodvilles - Edward's actions (@ the Mowbrays and Howards) would be irrelevant#(It's also worth pointing out that we don't know WHEN Richard decided to usurp. It if it was a more gradual desire then his depowering#of the Woodvilles by exploiting Mowbray & Howard discontent would not have not affected *Edward V's* ascension or prospects)#ie: the problem isn't that discontent existed with a few specific nobles (that was normal) the problem was how Richard took advantage of it#In theory this sort of thing would have been a potential threat for ANY heir to the throne whether they were a minor or an adult#In itself it's not really unique to Edward and it's silly when historians criticize him and him alone for it. It was more or less standard.#(if anything the fact that he was able to do them so successfully is an indication of his authority)#We come back to Horspool's point: 'Without one overriding factor' - Richard's initiative and actions - 'none of this could have happened.'#which is where this analysis of Horrox's comes in :)

at this point my life has just become a cycle of starving and binging and hating when i don’t eat yet hating it even more when i do. i think that’s why i’m so tired all the time. all of my energy is subconsciously going towards thoughts about body image and eating that regular stresses of school and theatre take more out of me than they usually do. i don’t feel like myself. my temper flares more often and i don’t like being angry with my friends. i want so badly to find some semblance of meaning or love but i can’t right now and that’s what scares me the most.

jjk spoilers for manga leaks under the cut and in the tags .....
Tumblr media
ik its too soon to speak but... im excited to see a post gojo jjk world... i think its too early to call it good or bad writing but me personally? i think gojo dying makes for more interesting possibilities for the rest of that cast and their growth and development as characters
#jjk leaks#jjk spoilers#all of this depends on how the rest of the storie goes of course#we wont rlly know how everything will end up until jjk ends#but like. i WANTED gojo to die#something something gojo being born into the world made it unbalanced and only him dying will restore balance something something#which is funny bc him dying actually shakes things up so much#pre gojo sealing he was there sort of as a safety net as the strongest#even tho his title never meant anything bc he didnt really save anybody or anything#but then post gojo sealing the cast has one goal of freeing gojo#all of these expectations on one guy who they deem the strongest even tho the strength doesnt mean anything#which cant rlly sink in unless he. yknow. dies#OR loses his infinity or six eyes but too late he died#and now that their safety net/strongest sorcerer isnt there. what'll they do?#everybody needs to take a step back and reevaluate and realize they cant keep relying on him#hell even gojo wanted everyone to get to a point where they didnt need to rely on him#to not rely on one singular person for all their troubles and their fucked up system#a system that gojo WAS a part of and didnt dismantle himself because he got benefit from that system#he killed the higher ups and now hes dead too#or well. the jurys still out on who killed the higher ups. but theyre all dead and so is gojo#what now? u dont have ur strongest anymore! r u gonna cling on to the system that created this in the first place? or will u forge something#new. somwthing better. something that doesnt beget an endless cycle of destruction and death and loss of innocent lives#also. karma for gojo thinking the solution to their problems could be another fight#oh u think the solution to this cycle of violence is another big fight where all u need to do is win?#idiot. get cut in half.#u want to make jujutsu society better but given the choice of saving the new generation (megumi) or fighting the strongest sorcer of the#heian era. u choose fighting the strongest sorcerer#like u had a month surely u couldve come up w a plan that involved putting megumi first and finding a way to save him#and (as far as i can tell) everybody went with it!!! bc theyre all in the system and cant see past it to make alternatives!!!#well now gojo is DEAD! u better start finding some alternatives

PARADE Interview with the Cast on the Finale
Link feature is being weird, but it could be Tumblr. ETA: So I just did a regular one.
Anyway, some quick highlights from the Core Four on the series' ending. It all seems very positive. *fingers crossed* Full answers at the link.
What has being on NCIS: Los Angeles meant to you?
Chris O’Donnell: It was an amazing gift. It’s a tough business that we’re in...To have a show that filmed in Los Angeles that went for 14 years is so beyond my wildest dreams because it allowed all five of my kids to be in the same school and not miss out on what their friends are doing.
LL Cool J: It’s grown me as a human being. I learned more humility. It made me appreciate people more. I understand people from all walks of life a lot better now...So, you feel that love. You learn a different type of respect for everything.
Daniela Ruah: It has made me grow into a woman and into a mother with a husband and two children. The show put me on the map in terms of this business. This is my first major job. Somehow, I was lucky enough that it lasted this long. It has really given me an opportunity to try different things and see what works and see what doesn’t work in terms of performance, in terms of exploring a character; in terms of all those things.
Eric Christian Olsen: There are so many parts of this. We’re talking about 14 years. It’s high school, college, PhD, residency in one show. I don’t even know how to fully articulate it
Will fans be happy with how NCIS: Los Angeles ends?
O’Donnell: I think they’ll be very pleased. I think that they’re in for a few surprises. I think they’ll be touched. And I think that Callen’s definitely at peace...It was satisfying for me as an actor because you want to come full circle with everything.
Cool J: I think people will enjoy it.
Ruah: Oh, yeah. I think the audience is going to be really happy. It’ll be wrapped up in a very nice little bow.
Olsen: I do, because this is not plot driven as much as it’s emotionally driven, and so that’s an easier arc...I think between Callen and Sam and Kensi and Deeks, we’re going to have an ending that keeps people excited and fulfilled.

this is a half baked thought but it compels me how the potc rpc (me included) latches onto port royal as a place for worldbuilding / domestic storytelling / etc because it exudes permanence and structure as opposed to places like tortuga and shipwreck cove which are transient by nature, and full of residents in transit, and ghosts, and stories.  ships, not homes.
#theres certainly an element of ''what does civilization / family / community look like in colonial society?'' that i am not immune to  but i#at least attempt to address in my writing#but i also think theres something interesting in writing in a place that's post earthquake - post an image of looking like tortuga#and is building an idea of what it sees itself as ( not unlike the later seasons of BS and the new nassau )#and casting off the idea of the old privateers and the old england that was more than happy to buddy up with the privateers#to ..  finding places in the New World Or Perish so to speak#✘; I HAVE SEVENTY TWO EXAMS AND I HAVE NOT STUDIED FOR ONE ( ooc )#what we dont really get a sense of in the movies (which for obv reasons cast PR as the naval & civilized foil to tortuga)#is that countless numbers of the other residents would have to adapt their ways of life as maritime communities once england decides piracy#is against her better interests#the merchants who counted on patrons with stolen spanish gold - the carpenters and suppliers who are now fitting naval ships instead of#pirate vessels.  the sex workers who – rather than depending on gold windfalls from pirates – are dependent on the unreliable pay given to#their naval clientele#there's a whole new crop of work that pops up post piracy act (namely the local justice system for hanging pirates) but it interests me to#think about how that sharpening divide between legal and illegal naval violence catches civilians in the crossfire#rather than ONLY the sailors / pirates / privateers / etc themselves

i'm sorry to say that this trend to cast poc actors for roles who were originally played by white people or are said not to be poc in the original material........ Is starting not to sit right with me. Not because poc actors take over those roles, but because it's just such a cheap way to gain "woke" points or say "here!! Look how diverse we are!!" without actually changing anything. The originals remain the same. The production team and writing team remain white. There's no real change. I just think it's so like manupulative in a way. Genuinely happy that poc actors get that paycheck tho!!

so i had a thought and. stranger things really does just have a ton of romance, doesn’t it? like .... it’s everywhere? there’s steve and nancy, nancy and jonathan, joyce and bob, joyce and hopper, there was dustin pining for max, max and lucas, mike and eleven, that will-they-won’t-they with steve and robin in season 3, billy and mrs. wheeler (don’t get me started), dustin and suzie, plus all the stuff going on in season 4. it’s just .... the duffers do know that they don’t have to pair off every character, right? a character can just not have a romantic subplot. like, that’s a thing that can happen. do they know this? because i need them to know this.

It's that time of year again where Mari Lwyd starts to be talked about and shared around and an INCREDIBLY misleading post gets shared a lot. As someone who grew up with Mari Lwyd I wanted to clear some things up.
Also hello, if you are unaware who Mari Lwyd is. This is about the Welsh tradition of the horse skull who visits houses during the Christmas to New Years period in Wales asking for alcohol.
Tumblr media
First off and probably the most important one:
Mari Lwyd is not a cryptid!
I can not emphasise this enough. She. Is. Not. A. Cryptid. There is no story or mystery about a ghost or zombie horse roaming the Welsh valleys. She's not even supposed to be a ghost or a zombie. It's just a horse skull on a stick with a guy under a sheet. She's a hobbyhorse and a folk character used to tell Welsh stories and keep songs alive. When people spread the misinformation that she's a cryptid, it's the equivalent of saying Kermit the Frog is a cryptid.
She is actually only one character in a wider cast of characters who go door to door or, in more modern times, pub to pub. The cast of characters can change town to town and village to village but there are some common ones I see time and time again. The Leader, the Merryman, The Jester and The Lady are just some I see regularly. Punch and Judy used to be more popular a few years ago but I haven't seen them in a while as their tradition has mostly fallen out of popularity. In most cases, almost the whole cast will be played by men. Even the characters are considered and referred to as female. Though this again depends and varies by which group is partaking in the Mari Lwyd tradition.
Tumblr media
This point also goes onto my second point,
Mari Lwyd does not rap.
I think this comes from a very common misunderstanding of what rap is vs spoken word. Rap is a very specific style of music originating from the African American communities of the USA and has it's own structure and motifs unique to it. It's a lot more complex than people give it credit for as a style of music and just flippantly assign anything similar to it as being rap. If someone is talking fast or reciting poetry, it is not rap. Or anything that is an exchange of words between two people is not a rap battle. Mari Lwyd does not do rap, actually something that gets left out of these posts is the fact Mari Lwyd does not even speak. It's actually the Leader, who does all the speaking and song based banter between the house/pub owner for entry. Mari Lwyd just clicks her mouth, bites people and bobs her head around.
I think Mari Lwyd is a really beautiful and unique part of Welsh culture. She's not actually as wildly celebrated as a lot of the posts make her out to be. Actually, I think most Welsh people themselves learn about Mari Lwyd through the internet as well. Her popularity is increasing thanks to the drive of local groups wanting to keep the traditions alive and a renewed desire to document Welsh traditions before they're gone. Which is why it's such a shame that she's turned into something she's not to earn horror points on the internet. I think this is why it bothers me so much to see the misunderstandings of the culture and the folk tradition. Mari Lwyd's origin is very hot debated as well as how long it's been going on for. But I think it's thanks to a lot of traditions like this that the Welsh language and our stories weren't lost forever. Welsh culture is recovering as is the language. But it's still in a very fragile place. I think it's why it's important to document and correct information when it's spread.
Anyway, if you want to see the tradition in action, here's a lovely video from the Cwmafan RFC going to one of the pubs for charity. It includes the song exchange with the pub owner for entry and the whole pub singing and joining in once Mari Lwyd and the rest are inside.
youtube
As well with another video from St Fagan's showcasing the more traditional and door to door form with the larger cast.
