"So at the BAREST roots ADHD is a severe lack of dopamine. It literally means our brains aren't making a sustainable amount of dopamine compared to neurotypical brains. THIS means our brains are CONSTANTLY seeking dopamine. Constantly. It is CRAVING the normal level of dopamine that it needs to be healthy.

ADHD brains are hungry dopamine vampires always on the hunt for dopamine hits. It's got nothing to do with priorities. We are WELL aware of the important things we're NOT doing (to our detriment) but our brain juices are out of balance.

SO when we hyperfocus it's on tasks that give the biggest or easiest dopamine hit and the things we avoid are generally tasks that do not give us the dopamine that our brains are seeking. When we're medicated our meds are providing our brains with the dopamine we're not making naturally and balancing us out so our brains can handle doing the mundane boring shit we need to do, because it's no longer seeking out dopamine like a hungry vampire on a blood binge!

It's really no different than a brain suffering clinical depression that can't make it's own serotonin and other necessary neurotransmitters."

Thinking about being a nanny for single parent Dynamight and you’re done for the day, chatting about how everything went. Conversation turns casual and as you’re turning to leave, his son runs up and shouts “LOOK AT THIS!” and then yanks his dad’s shirt up. Chiseled flesh with a perfect amount of a happy trail leading to more that you’ve thought about once or twice. Heat rises to your cheeks and you turn away, but not fast enough and Bakugou catches your lingering gaze.

“Quit it, kid,” he ruffles his son’s hair but doesn’t pull his shirt back down. You make your excuses and leave. Bakugou wishes you a good night and watches you make your way back to your car, flushed.
